MSI mistakenly fires up a ‘countdown’ to Nvidia RTX 5070 Ti GPU release that suggests February 20 launch rumors are spot on
MSI mistakenly fires up a ‘countdown’ to Nvidia RTX 5070 Ti GPU release that suggests February 20 launch rumors are spot on
Nvidia’s RTX 5070 Ti has been strongly rumored for a February 20 release
MSI sent a countdown timer live by accident, seemingly confirming that date
What we aren’t hearing, worryingly, is any word on the RTX 5070 and its launch date
Nvidia’s RTX 5070 Ti graphics card is increasingly looking set for a rumored February 20 launch date, just over a week from now – but we still haven’t heard anything on the grapevine about the vanilla RTX 5070’s release timeframe.
The latest piece of spillage regarding the on-***** date of the RTX 5070 Ti doesn’t come from a retailer – which have been the source of multiple leaks pointing to February 20 – but from one of Nvidia’s board-making partners.
It’s MSI to be precise, the French division of which sent a web page live (as Wccftech noticed) featuring its GeForce RTX 5070 Ti models along with a countdown that started with 10 days on the clock.
That happened yesterday, February 10, meaning the release date is February 20, in theory – although even with this leak, we can’t get carried away with it being conclusive, of course. Nothing’s ever fully set in stone until Nvidia actually announces the launch.
The web page was pretty vague – it didn’t show any of MSI’s models of the RTX 5070 Ti, or offer any info at all, apart from the assertion that the launch is nearing – and it’s now been taken down. That’s standard practice, of course, once a mistake like this has been made.
Analysis: What kind of mistake, though?
Well, we say it’s a mistake, but in this case, a 10-day countdown to the purported February 20 launch wouldn’t be an error as such – that was the design and intent of the web page, presumably. Unless the launch is, in actual fact, happening later than February 20, and MSI sent this countdown live early, by accident, but that seems unlikely.
What appears to be the case is that the French arm of MSI thought this countdown might be a good idea, fired up the web page, and quickly got told off, then took it down, but obviously I’m just guessing.
Sign up for breaking news, reviews, opinion, top tech deals, and more.
Whatever the case, with a French retailer also revealing the date of February 20 for the RTX 5070 Ti very recently, all signs are very much pointing to this as the day for the inevitable scramble to begin. Yes, stock levels of the RTX 5070 Ti will be watched like a hawk, given that this more affordable Blackwell GPU will surely be in greater demand than the RTX 5080 (and the RTX 5090 has always been a niche proposition).
As for the RTX 5070, the worry here, which I’ve expressed before, is that we aren’t hearing anything on the rumor mill about the launch of what should be a strong contender for our list of the best graphics cards.
There’s been a theory floating around for a while that the RTX 5070 Ti was coming first, but surely the RTX 5070 must be fairly close behind – Nvidia said both models would launch in February, after all.
So, not hearing a peep about the RTX 5070 is a little disconcerting, especially given the odd wisp of a rumor about a delay to March. Let’s hope that isn’t true, but AMD will doubtless be hoping the opposite, and that it’ll give Team Red’s new RX 9070 models arriving in March a better chance.

Stellar Blade’s developer expects the PC version to sell better than the PS5 one
Stellar Blade’s developer expects the PC version to sell better than the PS5 one
The studio behind Stellar Blade says it expects the game’s upcoming PC version to sell more than it did on PS5.
During a Q&A following its earnings report for its fiscal year 2024, developer Shift Up was asked what its expected results were for the PC version of Stellar Blade.
The company replied that given the popularity of the genre in Asia and the larger number of PC players, it hoped to see the PC version outselling the PS5 one.
“In the AAA game market, PC devices have a higher market share than consoles, so we expect the performance of the PC version to exceed that of the console version,” the company said. “We are particularly observing trends such as the significant expansion of the single-player action game market in the Asian gaming industry.
“We have identified and analyzed both successful and underperforming cases of console exclusives released on PC, and we are preparing to release the game in a way that ensures continued success in the PC market.”
Shift Up says steps taken to ensure the PC version’s success include “optimisation, enhancing user convenience, adding supplementary content, and tailored marketing strategies unique to Shift Up”.
It also plans to make sure the game runs smoothly in ultra-mobile PC environments, such as the Steam Deck or the Asus ROG Ally.
Shift Up has previously stated that the PS5 version of Stellar Blade sold more than 1 million copies worldwide. In its Q&A it said the fact the game has “been continuously updated like a live service game” means it has “steadily build a strong global fandom for the Stellar Blade IP”.

Too early to see impact of US tariffs on world economy, IMF head says
Too early to see impact of US tariffs on world economy, IMF head says
DUBAI (Reuters) – U.S. tariffs are an “evolving story” and it is too early to assess their impact on the world economy, International Monetary Fund Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva said on Tuesday.
“It is an evolving story… What we have are elements of trade policy that we expected would come, that was announced in the election campaign, but there are many, many unknowns”, she told the World Government Summit in Dubai.
“So when I think of the impact on the world economy, my answer to you would be today, it’s too early to say.”
Georgieva said the world economy appeared remarkably resilient, despite a series of unprecedented shocks.
The outlook for inflation was hard to predict, she suggested.
“Even on that, we just need to see how things evolve. Because if we are in the situation in which, in some parts of the world, there is a slowdown that may push central banks to bring interest rates down, that may actually not be inflationary.”
U.S. President Donald Trump substantially raised tariffs on steel and aluminum imports on Monday to a flat 25%, a move he hopes will aid the struggling industries in the United States but which also risks sparking a multi-front trade war.

Assassin’s Creed Shadows director: players ‘aren’t missing out’ if they mainly play as one character
Assassin’s Creed Shadows director: players ‘aren’t missing out’ if they mainly play as one character
The creative director of Assassin’s Creed Shadows says he doesn’t think players are “missing out” if they favour one of the game’s two protagonists.
Shadows allows players to control either the ninja Yaoe or the samurai Yasuke, with the former offering stealth and speed, and the latter being focused more on brute strength attacks.
While players can switch between Yaoe and Yasuke throughout the course of the game, creative director Jonathan Dumont says they shouldn’t have to worry on missing large swathes of content if they’d rather play mainly as a single character.
“I don’t think you’re missing out on things too much,” Dumont told Screen Rant. “I think it’s more on your preference to [say] ‘okay, I’ll see how the game will adapt a little bit to the character if you choose one over the other’.
“They get individual introductions, and then they get their own questline also. So that one is, let’s say Naoe, a personal questline cannot be played by Yasuke and those are two distinct things. But the core of the game can be pick your character and the game adapts.
“So I guess you can switch for gameplay reasons, you can switch if you think that you like one of the other [protagonists] better, but I don’t think you’re missing out. That’s more, all right, have fun with the game, just play it as you want.
“And there’s going to be a couple of choices here and there that I wonder what happened, what would happen with this character, but I don’t think you’re missing out.”
Choosing not to commit to a specific percentage, Dumont said players can play “quite a bit of the game” using just one character, because Ubisoft is “not imposing players [to] try to split their time” between both. However, he also adds that he personally prefers to switch every few hours.
“I play quite a bit balanced out and what happens is, I play with one for three, four, five hours, and then I switch, and then I just play two, three hours,” he said. “Usually I play stealth and then I say, all right, let me destroy some camps and stuff all right for a while. And then I just change like that.”
Originally planned for release last November, Assassin’s Creed Shadows was delayed until February 14, then delayed again to March 20.
Despite previously saying it was confident a second delay wouldn’t be necessary, Ubisoft said the additional development time would allow it to “better incorporate the player feedback gathered over the past three months and help create the best conditions for launch by continuing to engage closely with the increasingly positive Assassin’s Creed community”.

Intel’s head of datacenter and AI unit leaves to lead Nokia
Intel’s head of datacenter and AI unit leaves to lead Nokia
In an unexpected turn of events Justin Hotard, the executive vice president and general manager of the Data Center and AI Group (DCAI) at Intel, left the company to become chief executive of Nokia. Intel has appointed an internal head for its datacenter and AI unit and will start searching for a new permanent general manager immediately.
“We have a strong DCAI team that will continue to advance our priorities in service to our customers,” a statement by Intel reads. “Karin Eibschitz Segal has been appointed interim head of the DCAI business and is an accomplished executive with nearly two decades of Intel leadership experience spanning products, systems and infrastructure roles. We are grateful for Justin Hotard’s contributions and wish him the best in his new role.”
Justin Hotard joined Intel from HPE in early 2024. His tenure was arguably a mixed bag, though much of what he oversaw was more or less in place before he arrived. Intel successfully launched its Xeon 6 ‘Granite Rapids’ and ‘Sierra Forest’ CPUs for servers, but sales of its Gaudi 3 processors for AI missed the company’s own rather modest expectations. In addition, the company had to cancel its Falcon Shores as a product and delay its Clearwater Forest datacenter CPU by at least a quarter.
Justin Hotard has over 25 years of experience working at major technology companies. Before joining Intel, he held leadership positions at Hewlett Packard Enterprise and NCR Corporation. His background includes expertise in AI and datacenter markets, which are said to be critical areas for Nokia’s future.
“I am delighted to welcome Justin to Nokia,” said Sari Baldauf, Chair of Nokia’s Board of Directors. “He has a strong track record of accelerating growth in technology companies along with vast expertise in AI and datacenter markets, which are critical areas for Nokia’s future growth. In his previous positions, and throughout the selection process, he has demonstrated the strategic insight, vision, leadership and value creation mindset required for a CEO of Nokia.”
Nokia’s current CEO Pekka Lundmark will step down on March 31, 2025, and Justin Hotard will take over the role starting April 1, 2025. Lundmark will stay on as an advisor until the end of the year. Hotard will be based in Espoo, Finland, where Nokia’s headquarters are located.
Lundmark has led Nokia since 2020, a ******* marked by significant challenges. Under his leadership, the company strengthened its position in 5G technology, cloud-based network infrastructure, and patent licensing. With this leadership change, Nokia aims to continue its transformation, focusing on AI, datacenters, and next-generation connectivity.
Get Tom’s Hardware’s best news and in-depth reviews, straight to your inbox.
“I am honored by the opportunity to lead Nokia, a global leader in connectivity with a unique heritage in technology,” said Justin Hotard. “Networks are the backbone that power society and businesses, and enable generational technology shifts like the one we are currently experiencing in AI. I am excited to get started and look forward to continuing Nokia’s transformation journey to maximize its potential for growth and value creation.”
Justin Hotard leaves a couple of months after Pat Gelsinger, chief executive of Intel, was ousted by the board of directors. As a result, Intel now does not have a permanent CEO or a permanent head of its key DCAI unit.

KeyBanc upgrades Steel Dynamics, citing Trump’s steel tariffs as a catalyst
KeyBanc upgrades Steel Dynamics, citing Trump’s steel tariffs as a catalyst
President Donald Trump’s steel and aluminum duties could boost shares of Steel Dynamics , according to KeyBanc. Analyst Philip Gibbs upgraded shares of the steel producer to overweight from sector weight. His price target of $155 represents 17% upside from Monday’s close. The rating change comes after Trump signed an executive order to impose a 25% levy on steel and aluminum imports to the U.S. Shares of Steel Dynamics popped nearly 5% on Monday in anticipation of the signing. Still, Gibbs thinks the stock trades at a reasonable valuation relative to peer and that the company is at an inflection point. STLD 1Y mountain STLD 1Y chart “We believe STLD’s Sinton operations are finally turning the corner operationally after losing nearly $200M in 2024 given improving upstream yields, lower major maintenance costs, higher production, and improving mix,” he said. “STLD is also uniquely suited to be the primary sheet volume market share beneficiary of declining prospective import activity, notably in galvanized sheet.” These catalysts are likely to support positive earnings revisions for Steel Dynamics, Gibbs added. Future steel tariffs from the Trump administration should also support prospective spot sheet pricing in the near term, further benefiting the stock. Steel Dynamics shares are higher by 16% this year already and have gained 6% over the past 12 months. They also added 2% in the premarket following the upgrade. Analysts are split on the stock. LSEG data shows that just five who cover it rate it a buy or strong buy, while eight have a hold rating on the stock.

Altcoins: A Break of These Ethereum Levels Could Spark Next Move in Broader Market
Altcoins: A Break of These Ethereum Levels Could Spark Next Move in Broader Market
Despite a quick rebound from last week’s sharp downturn, the altcoin market remains in a correction phase. Overall, it needs to assertively rise by around 10% and stabilize above the $1.35 trillion market cap from its current $1.24 trillion to sustain recovery and avoid further selling pressure.
‘s recent divergence from the altcoin market further cements the trend as the pair retraces to 2021 levels, with Bitcoin’s dominance at 64%.
The silver lining for bulls is the fact that a reversal in ‘s trajectory would likely spark a broader altcoin market revival. Last week’s buying interest at $2,100 ETH shows potential, yet current levels remain vulnerable.
Let’s take a deeper looks at three non-Bitcoin cryptocurrencies poised for significant moves in the near term, starting with ETH.
Ethereum: Decline Increases risk of Bear Traps
Forecasts of further depreciation have fueled further selling in ETH, with short positions jumping by 500% since November 2024 and 40% in the last week. Yet, institutional demand for Ethereum remains strong, raising concerns over a possible short squeeze.
Last week’s ETF data revealed $420 million in ETH inflows, surpassing Bitcoin’s. However, the rebound hasn’t been enough to stabilize the cryptocurrency.
ETH Technical View
Ethereum’s downward trend accelerated after it lost support at $3,300 early in the year. The Fib 0.786 support at $2,735 became significant once the $3,000 support was breached.
Last week, the decline slowed around $2,600, making the $2,735 level crucial again. For recovery, Ethereum needs to close daily above $2,735, potentially targeting the Fib 0.618 value near $3,000, a key level for reversing the trend. Failing to regain $3,000 during a bullish phase could further accelerate the downtrend.
Achieving a weekly close above $2,735 marks the first step in recovery. If selling pressure persists and ETH closes daily below this level, the downtrend may extend towards $2,300, filling the gap from last week’s rapid decline.
Cardano’s Price Boosted by ETF Developments
Grayscale has filed for a spot ETF in the US, marking its first standalone investment product centered on the ADA asset.
This news positively influenced Cardano’s market value. However, ADA’s past classification as a security by the SEC might complicate the approval process.
Despite this, Grayscale’s inclusion of ADA in other major ETF applications is seen as a positive step. Approval of one of these altcoin ETF applications could set a favorable precedent, boosting ADA’s chances for ETF approval and increasing institutional demand.
ADA Technical View
ADA saw a significant surge in the November uptrend and, during the subsequent correction phase, maintained strength mostly between $0.88 and $1.13. However, a broad market sell-off at the start of the month pushed ADA to find support around $0.67 at Fib 0.618 after losing the $0.88 support.
With recent ETF developments, ADA might enter a more mature recovery if it regains the $0.88 level. Rising above this point would bring ADA into positive territory, exceeding short- and medium-term EMA values. In a bullish scenario, ADA could aim for $1.2 and possibly continue the trend towards $1.4-$1.6.
On the downside, $0.77 serves as the first support level. Losing this support in profit-taking could lead to a retest of the $0.67 mark, which, if lost, would invalidate the bullish outlook.
Litecoin Likewise Making Moves on ETF Woes
After the recent ******, quickly rebounded, fueled by momentum from LTC-based ETF applications and Nasdaq’s application to list LTC ETFs. Technically, Litecoin maintained its key psychological support at $100 during last week’s decline, consolidating between $100 and $135.
As Litecoin edges back towards the $135-$140 resistance area, a potential breakout could target the $145-$155 range in the short term. If Litecoin fails to break above $135, it may continue fluctuating within its consolidation zone. On the downside, $120 serves as initial support, with potential declines towards $110 and $100 if breached.

Warren Gatland: Wales head coach to leave role
Gatland, 61, has presided over statistically the worst Wales side in their 144-year international rugby history, slumping to a record 14 successive Test match defeats, with a 22-15 defeat against Italy in Rome last weekend.
The New Zealander previously enjoyed a successful 12-year spell as Wales coach which included three Grand Slams, two World Cup semi-finals and a record run of 14 victories that led to Wales briefly topping the world rankings.
Gatland left after the 2019 Rugby World Cup before returning for a second stint in charge when he replaced Wayne Pivac in December 2022.
Since then Gatland has overseen six victories and 20 losses in 26 Tests, with a win ratio of just 23%. Wales have also slumped to a lowest position of 12th in the world rankings.
Over both spells Gatland has been in charge for 151 games with his overall record standing at 76 wins, 73 defeats and two draws.

Tigers coach bullish star ****** will start AFL season
Tom ****** has been declared “a lock” for Richmond’s AFL season opener next month as he recovers from his latest injury setback.
Tigers coach Adem Yze expects ****** to play in their pre-season match against Collingwood later this month, ahead of the traditional round-one clash on March 13 against Carlton.
Richmond’s No.1 draft pick Sam Lalor will have a run on Monday, during the informal hitout against West Coast in Perth.
****** has only managed eight games over the last two seasons because of foot and hamstring injuries.
The key forward sent a scare through Richmond late last month when he was in a collision at training and had to go into the 12-day concussion protocol.
But Yze told the AFL website on Tuesday one of Richmond’s most important players is progressing well.
“He is a lock for round one,” the second-year Richmond coach said.
“He got pushed into someone’s knee and got a bit angry.
“The minute he went down, you just went ‘please don’t be any arm, limb, finger, knee’. It was almost a relief – he walked off the ground.
“With the stuff he has been through, the fact that he went into the protocols, he will be all sweet for round one.
Yze is also upbeat about Lalor, who had a serious hamstring injury last September ahead of joining the Tigers with their No.1 pick.
He led six picks in the first round of the draft for the rebuilding Tigers.
“There was no way known we would risk him if he didn’t have the right training load under his belt,” Yze said of Lalor.
“He has done everything asked of him after Christmas since we upped the ante.
“You look at him and he is a man. He is ready to go.”

Valve Shatters EA’s Hopes of Using Advertisements in Games with New Ruling That Prevents Locking Gameplay behind Advertisements
Valve Shatters EA’s Hopes of Using Advertisements in Games with New Ruling That Prevents Locking Gameplay behind Advertisements
Valve is making a bold move to prevent the integration of intrusive ads in games on Steam, setting a clear boundary for developers. In recent years, Electronic Arts (EA) has shown an increasing desire to extract as much money as possible from gamers, using microtransactions and in-game purchases.
The new policy set clear rules for the advertisements in-game. | Image Credit: Valve
Last year, EA took this one step further, discussing the possibility of integrating advertisements directly into its games. However, with Valve’s new policy in place, these ad-driven business models now face major obstacles. EA and other developers will need to rethink their approach if they want to keep their games on Steam.
Valve’s new advertising policy disrupts EA’s plans
EA’s plans to integrate dynamics ads in-game have been disrupted. | Image Credit: BioWare
Valve’s newly introduced policy on advertisements is a bold move aimed at safeguarding the player experience. As per the policy, Steam only allows product placement in games, such as real-world brands, logos, or products as long as they are appropriate within the context of the game.
However, Valve has set clear boundaries: these brand placements cannot disrupt the gameplay experience in any way and developers must obtain proper licenses for any copyrighted content.
More importantly, Valve explicitly forbids advertising as a business model within games. This means that developers cannot require players to watch ads in exchange for gameplay progression or gate content behind advertisements.
If a game relies on ads from other platforms, such as pop-up ads or videos to unlock features, these must be removed before the game can be launched on Steam.
This ruling directly disrupts EA’s plans (as reported by TheVerge) to introduce ‘dynamic ads’ in its titles, where players would likely be exposed to real-time advertisements that could interrupt or lock content. The company’s dreams of using ads as a core part of its revenue model are now ruined, at least on Steam.
The new policy protects the player experience

EA, like many other large corporations, has long been focused on maximizing its profits, which comes often at the expense of the player experience. While making money is a necessary part of any business, it shouldn’t come at the cost of ruining the gaming experience for paying customers.
By integrating advertisements into gameplay, companies like EA risk creating a disruptive environment where players are constantly bombarded with ads, diminishing their immersion and enjoyment.
Valve’s new policy is a clear statement that the player experience comes first. This move ensures that Steam will remain a platform where players can enjoy uninterrupted gaming experiences, without having to worry about watching ads to access core content.
By allowing only non-disruptive product placement and preventing ads from becoming a core business model, the policy is making a statement in favor of consumer-friendly practices, prioritizing gameplay over profit-driven ad schemes.
In the end, Valve has done the right thing by protecting its users and ensuring that games maintain the quality and immersion that players expect. As for EA’s aspirations to flood their games with dynamic, intrusive ads may now have to be abandoned.

(Reuters) -************ President Mahmoud Abbas has issued a decree overturning a system of payments to the families of Palestinians imprisoned or killed by Israeli forces that has been a longstanding source of friction with the United States.
The current system has been dubbed “pay for slay” by critics who say it rewards the families of militants who carry out attacks on Israel, although that label is rejected by Palestinians.
Payments will be transferred to a government body affiliated with the president’s office, according to the text of the decree, with a new disbursement mechanism, details of which have so far not been announced.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen on Tuesday said the EU would mobilize a total of 200 billion euros ($206.5 billion) for artificial intelligence investments in Europe, stressing that the race for AI leadership had not yet been won by China or the U.S.
The sum includes previously-announced 150-billion-euro funding from investors and industry, which Von der Leyen announced the bloc will top up by another 50 billion euros.
Speaking at the AI Action Summit in Paris, Von der Leyen said it would be the “largest public-private partnership in the world for the development of trustworthy AI,” focused on industrial and mission-critical applications and powering European “gigafactories.”
This is a breaking news story and will be updated shortly.

Ossoff calls on Trump admin to ‘publicly refuse’ El Salvador’s offer to jail Americans
Ossoff calls on Trump admin to ‘publicly refuse’ El Salvador’s offer to jail Americans
Georgia Sen. Jon Ossoff is urging the Trump administration to unequivocally reject El Salvador’s offer to hold American citizens in its prison system, condemning President Donald Trump’s initial response to the proposal.
The Democrat’s letter, sent Monday and first obtained by POLITICO, comes days after Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s trip to El Salvador, one stop on his tour of Central American countries intended to advance the president’s immigration agenda. After the meeting, Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele proposed allowing the U.S. to place convicted criminals, including American citizens, in the country’s Terrorism Confinement Center for a fee. The mega-prison was built to house over 40,000 people and has been at the center of concerns from human rights groups over violence and overcrowding.
The proposal immediately spurred concerns from lawyers and advocates but was praised by top Trump administration officials, including Elon Musk and Rubio, who called it a “very generous offer” — while acknowledging the legal questions at play. And Trump said he would jail Americans in El Salvador “in a heartbeat” if he had the legal right to do it.
“Federal law does not allow the deportation of U.S. citizens, and El Salvador’s prisons are internationally notorious for life-threatening and abusive conditions,” Ossoff wrote in a letter to Rubio and Attorney General Pam Bondi. “I urge you to promptly and publicly refuse President Bukele’s reported offer.”
Any moves by the Trump administration to deport U.S. nationals to another country would face significant legal challenges, but last week’s discussions underscore the major role Trump officials see El Salvador playing in their efforts to secure regional collaboration on the president’s aggressive immigration policies. And Trump’s engagement with the idea also underscored his willingness to embrace extreme and unprecedented ideas to show toughness on crime and ******** immigration — hallmark issues of his presidential campaign.
Buekele’s harsh prisons have been a focal point of his aggressive campaign against crime. Since March 2022, more than 84,000 have been arrested — many with little to no due process — as Burkele has used the military and a state-of-emergency to crack down on criminals. The State Department’s travel advisory for the country warns that those imprisoned could face “harsh” conditions.
“It would be a moral and legal travesty for the U.S. government to subject anyone to such conditions,” Ossoff said.
Ossoff’s response also offers clues about how and when Democrats will choose to fight Trump. Lawmakers, especially when it comes to immigration, have been strategic in responding to the president’s moves. The party’s loudest criticism so far has been directed at Trump’s overhaul of the federal government and his efforts to push legal boundaries.

Background
On 6 February 2025, US President Donald Trump issued an executive order imposing sanctions on the International Criminal Court, including suspending the entry of ICC officials, employees, and agents, as well as their immediate family members into the United States.
A delegation of MEPs of the Subcommittee on Human rights travelled to The Hague on 29-30 October 2024 to meet with members of the International Court of Justice, the International Criminal Court (ICC), EUROJUST and other key partners. After the mission, DROI Chair said he was concerned about the serious threats these institutions face, underlining the crucial role of the ICC to support the victims and declared that International Criminal Court decisions were binding on all EU member states.
In their annual report 2023 on Human rights and democracy in the world and the EU’s policy on the matter, MEPs condemned attempts to undermine the work of the ICC and its legitimacy, and called for the EU and its member states to encourage their partners to ratify the Rome Statute and its amendments, expanding the Court’s jurisdiction.

Federal Election 2025: Labor Werribee disaster spells trouble for Albanese’s re-election hopes
Federal Election 2025: Labor Werribee disaster spells trouble for Albanese’s re-election hopes
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese would be swept from power at the upcoming federal election if Labor’s disastrous Werribee by-election results in Victoria were mirrored nationwide.
The Victorian Labor Party suffered a mammoth 17 per cent primary vote swing against in it across the suburban electorate in Melbourne’s outer west and a two-party preferred swing of negative 10 per cent.
There are multiple federal Labor seats across Melbourne, specifically McEwen, Chisholm, Aston, Bruce, Dunkley, Corangamite and Hawke, on margins of less than 10 per cent, meaning they would likely fall if the swing in Werribee were replicated at the federal poll.
Labor MP Sam Rae holds Hawke with a margin of 7.6 per cent, while Carina Garland holds Chisholm with a slim 3.3 per cent margin.
Werribee is still on a knife’s edge, with the seat expected to be called on Friday.
Victorian Health Minister Mary-Anne Thomas, speaking after the breakdown, labelled the result “very humbling”
Victorian Deputy Premier Ben Carroll labelled the result “unacceptable”.

“It was a sizeable swing,” Mr Carroll told 3AW this week.
“Unacceptable that result.
“We need to work hard, redouble our efforts.”
Pollster Kos Samaras warned Werribee showed Labor’s “red wall” had collapsed into a “barbed-wire fence”.
“Labor has just recorded its lowest primary vote in a seat they have held at any by-election in Victoria’s history,” he posted to X.
“If I were a Labor MP sitting in what was once a safe seat, I’d be doing one of two things: planning my retirement or treating my electorate as a critical marginal.
“The only silver lining for Labor? Many voters in Melbourne’s growth corridors still dislike the Liberal Party even more.”
There are also reasons to be cautious, however, about grafting Werribee’s results onto a national election.
Voters may be punishing the Victorian state government, rather than federal Labor, and it is not clear if the swings recorded in Werribee will be uniform across other federal electorates.
On February 10, Mr Samaras announced his firm’s latest Nationwide poll put the Coalition at 51.5 per cent on a two-party preferred basis and Labor at 48.5 per cent.
“Labor’s primary vote in the outer suburbs has collapsed to just 27 per cent,” Mr Samaras said.
“Labor’s vote remains most stable in higher-income, inner-urban electorates, mirroring the trend seen in Victoria (Werribee).
“There, we got an early preview of the growing schism between the well-off, whose support Labor increasingly depends on, and the so-called ‘invisible Australians’ who are fed up with being ignored and are actively looking for another political home.”
Victorian Premier Jacinta Allan, reflecting on Werribee, said voters were “sending a message”.
“We have to do more to support, particularly working people and their families, at this tough time,” she told ABC Radio.
“But we also have to look at what we can change, what we can improve, what we can build on.”
The federal election is yet to be called, but must be held before May 17.

The Legend of Heroes: Trails Through Daybreak II (PS5) Review | VGChartz
Travis Bruno of Capsule Computers writes:
“While far from a mainstream JRPG franchise, one that has always been an easy recommendation for those looking to delve into a storied franchise has been The Legend of Heroes games. Spanning across nearly two decades of releases on numerous platforms, there have always been consistent story arcs seeing longtime characters often returning in later entries. What finally made the franchise a bit more approachable was the fact that, while still set in the same world and featuring the same lore, The Legend of Heroes: Trails Through Daybreak a bit over six months ago placed the franchise in a nearly completely fresh starting point.
This allowed newcomers a chance to enter this storied franchise without too much concern for the lore, and even then an extensive glossary was provided in-game. So now that The Legend of Heroes: Trails Through Daybreak II has arrived to continue the journey of Arkride Solutions’ members as well as implement elements from Reverie, is this a worthwhile continuation to Van an company’s story?”

Study Uncovers Evidence of Cannibalism in Ancient Europe 18,000 Years Ago
Study Uncovers Evidence of Cannibalism in Ancient Europe 18,000 Years Ago
Human remains discovered in a cave in Poland have provided evidence of cannibalism among ancient European groups, with bones showing distinct cut marks and fractures. The findings suggest that the bodies of the deceased were systematically butchered, with brains and other soft tissues extracted shortly after death. The remains, dating back 18,000 years, belong to at least ten individuals, including children, and indicate a practice linked to warfare rather than survival. Researchers have ruled out natural causes such as animal activity or accidental damage, highlighting that the modifications were intentional and systematic.
Evidence of Butchering Found on Bones
According to the study published in Scientific Reports, an analysis was conducted on 53 bones found at Maszycka Cave near Krakow, Poland. Using 3D microscopy, researchers identified cut marks on 68 percent of the remains, indicating scalping, defleshing, and the removal of ears and jaws.
The skulls showed fractures consistent with attempts to extract the brain, while additional marks on shoulder, arm, and leg bones suggested butchering for consumption. Study lead author Francesc Marginedas, a doctoral student at the Catalan Institute of Human Paleoecology and Social Evolution (IPHES), told Live Science that the location and frequency of the cut marks and the intentional fracturing of the skeleton clearly show nutritional exploitation of the bodies.
Cannibalism Linked to Warfare, Not Famine
As per the findings, the Magdalenian *******, which spanned from 23,000 to 11,000 years ago, saw an increase in human populations, making famine an unlikely reason for cannibalism. Palmira Saladié, a researcher at IPHES, told Live Science that in prehistoric contexts, it could be in response to survival needs or to ritual practices, or even to the dynamics of intergroup violence. However, no evidence of respectful burial was found, and the human remains were mixed with butchered animal bones, supporting the hypothesis of “warfare cannibalism.”
A Widespread Practice in the Magdalenian *******
The study suggests that the victims may have been part of a single family unit that was attacked, killed, and subsequently consumed. The pattern aligns with discoveries from other European sites of the same *******, indicating that cannibalism was a significant cultural practice. Researchers believe territorial conflicts and competition for resources may have contributed to these acts, shaping interactions between different groups in prehistoric Europe.

New Battlefield Game: DICE “Cherry Picking” Best Parts of Other BF Games
New Battlefield Game: DICE “Cherry Picking” Best Parts of Other BF Games
JEECE4d ago
Sounds great. Unfortunately, that would be a niche game. Except for smaller audiences on PC, gamers now won’t play games because they are fun. If they aren’t “earning” something (guns, character skins, hats, gun skins, emotes, dances, perks, boosts, streaks, etc.), they’ll say the have no reason to play anymore.
The RPG-ification of shooters in the late 2000s/early 2010s, coupled with kids growing up with grindy mobile games, rewired gamers’ brains. Now the meta game (the progression system) is more important than the game itself. The live service focus is just a natural outgrowth of that development. After all, if people really only care about earning new things, even if you build a ton of things to grind for into the game, once they burn through that, they’ll stop playing. So of course you have keep giving them new stuff to “earn.”
I wish the world where your proposed game would be a hit still existed. But unfortunately it doesn’t.
