Trump expects visit from ******** President Xi without giving timeline Trump expects visit from ******** President Xi without giving timeline ******** President Xi Jinping and U.S. President Donald Trump. Dan Kitwoodnicholas Kamm | Afp | Getty Images U.S. President Donald Trump said on Wednesday he expected ******** President Xi Jinping to visit the United States without giving a timeline for his trip. Trump made the remarks to reporters on Air Force One and said “it’s possible” for the U.S. and China to have a new trade deal. A conversation or interaction between Xi and Trump is seen as crucial to a potential easing or delay of trade tariffs. “We’ll have, ultimately, President Xi, we will have everybody coming (to the U.S.),” Trump said while also speaking about others leaders visiting the United States. Xi last travelled to the U.S. in November 2023, in his fifth visit to the country as ******** president, for a summit with then U.S. President Joe Biden, resulting in agreements to resume military-to-military communications and curb fentanyl production. Trump and Xi had spoken just before Trump took office on January 20 and discussed issues including TikTok, trade and Taiwan. Trump told reporters on Wednesday that he was talking to China about TikTok as the United States seeks to broker a ***** of the popular app owned by ******** parent firm ByteDance. Trump said last week he had spoken to Xi since taking office as well, but did not offer details on the topics of that conversation. China’s foreign ministry did not directly comment on Trump’s remarks that day and instead referred reporters to their “scheduled” call before Trump took office. Washington and Beijing have had tense relations for years over differences ranging from trade tariffs and cybersecurity to TikTok, Taiwan, Hong Kong, human rights and the origins of COVID-19. Trump also told reporters he could make a deal with Russia over the war in Ukraine. “We can make a deal with Russia to stop the killing,” Trump said, adding he thought the Russians wanted to see the war end. “I think they have the cards a little bit because they’ve taken a lot of territory so they have the cards,” Trump said. iPhone 16e Introduces Apple’s Proprietary C1 5G Cellular Modem With Improved Efficiency iPhone 16e Introduces Apple’s Proprietary C1 5G Cellular Modem With Improved Efficiency After months of anticipation, Apple debuted the successor to the iPhone SE (2022) dubbed the iPhone 16e on Wednesday. The phone comes with several firsts in the company’s affordable iPhone lineup, including an OLED display, a notch design with Face ID, and support for Apple Intelligence. However, a key addition which surprisingly only got a few lines of mention in the official press release and thus, might have been overlooked by many, is Apple’s new proprietary C1 modem which powers the cellular connectivity on the iPhone 16e. Apple C1 Chip The C1 chip is the culmination of Apple spending billions of dollars over many years in a bid to reduce its reliance on Qualcomm for sourcing 5G modems. While it was expected to be launched a few years ago following the company’s acquisition of Intel’s modem business in 2019, the development has time and again been delayed due to various factors. This resulted in the iPhone maker extending its deal with Qualcomm last year to outsource the 5G modems for the iPhone till 2026. Apple claims the new C1 modem is the first in its category to be designed by the company in-house and is the “most power-efficient modem ever” on an iPhone whilst maintaining fast and reliable 5G cellular connectivity. The improved efficiency of the modem, coupled with the iPhone 16e’s internal design and iOS 18’s advanced power management, is said to result in “extraordinary” battery life on the new iPhone; up to 26 hours of video playback, according to Apple. In comparison, the base iPhone 16 is claimed to deliver up to 22 hours of video playback on a single charge. However, the iPhone 16e is not without its caveats. A look at the technical specifications of the phone reveals that it lacks support for mmWave — the extremely high frequency (EHF) band. This claim was first made by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman a few days ago and Apple’s launch confirms it. Thus, its absence may result in slower download and upload speeds, at least on paper. I Went to the ER with an Anxiety Attack Before College Finals. The Same Day, Doctors Found Pancreatic ******* (Exclusive) I Went to the ER with an Anxiety Attack Before College Finals. The Same Day, Doctors Found Pancreatic ******* (Exclusive) Toni Bravo, 21, thought she was having an anxiety attack a couple of weeks before finals at The University of Notre Dame in December 2023. She went to the emergency room and was diagnosed with pancreatic ******* that same day. Last summer, she had surgery to remove the tumor and is now *******-free and finishing her senior year. Below, she shares her story with PEOPLE to encourage others to go to the doctor immediately if something feels wrong. In the fall 2023, I started developing anxiety. I was a junior at the University of Notre Dame and had never had anxiety before. For several months, I’d had a high heart rate and tight chest. My heart rate would be really fast and I’d have trouble breathing regularly. When I talked to my mother about it, she said there was a time when she was younger that she had dealt with anxiety too, and then after a year or two it went away. So I just thought it was normal. But one day in December 2023, about two weeks before finals, I was having a really bad anxiety attack. It started the night prior and went through to the next day, which had never happened. Normally, if I had anxiety at nighttime, once I went to sleep and woke up in the morning, it would be gone. But this time when I woke up, my anxiety was still heightened. Just walking 10 steps to the bathroom would increase my heart rate to the point where I was really uncomfortable. I called my mom and I was like, “I can’t get rid of my anxiety today. I don’t know what’s going on.” She said, “Well, if it makes you feel better, and it probably will, you should just go to the emergency room. They’ll help you calm down, tell you that you’re okay, give you some scans, and then hopefully you’ll be fine.” So I listened to her, and I took myself to the emergency room at a hospital near campus that day. They got me in really quickly, and they’re like, “Okay, your heart rate is obviously elevated, but we’ll do CT scans of your chest just to make sure that there’s nothing blocking the heart, there’s no clots, whatever.” After they ran the initial CT scans, they came back and said that one of the radiologists had seen something on the very bottom of the scan. They ordered a CT scan of my abdomen. I was alone at the hospital when the doctor came in to tell me the results. He was like, “I don’t really know a lot about this, because it looks rare from what I’ve looked up about it, but you have *******.” I was 20 years old. [Her birthday is March 27, 2003.] His exact words were, “It’s a really rare tumor on your pancreas.” He said he hadn’t seen it in his career before personally, but that I was going to have to get surgery to remove it. He let me know, like a heads-up: “We don’t do that surgery here, so you would have to go back home in California to get it done.” Related: Golden Bachelorette Joan Vassos Is Fundraising for Pancreatic ******* in Honor of Late Husband (Exclusive) I took my finals, I went home to Los Angeles for winter break. Over break, I had my first appointment at City of Hope. I got my CT scans, and I met with my surgeon Dr. Laleh Melstrom who confirmed the diagnosis. She told me, “It is a rare tumor on the pancreas. It is treated with surgery, there is no other way to treat it. It’s very well behaving — once you get it out, it pretty much stays gone.” It relieved much of my stress to know that once I had the surgery, statistically, I should be done. That helped me calm down about the whole diagnosis. Dr. Melstrom was very, very flexible with the timing of my surgery. She said, “Do you want to finish college before we do the surgery, or would you like to get it done this summer?” I was so focused on getting it out of my body. I was just like, “No, the soonest that I can get surgery, I want to get surgery.” Because that was weird — knowing and being aware of it in my body. I ended up going through the spring semester of my junior year with the tumor. I got out of school in May, and spent a month preparing for my surgery. I hung out with friends, I went swimming, I went to the beach, I went to Disneyland, I did all the things that I loved to do that I knew wasn’t going to be as easy to do after the surgery. I went on a road trip for a weekend with my friends up to Big Sur. I went to Vegas. I knew that after surgery I was going to be in bed for a lot of the time. I had robotic Whipple surgery on June 4th, 2024. The Robotic Whipple procedure involves removing the head of the pancreas, part of the small intestine, gall bladder and bile duct. The robotic surgery allows a smaller incision and quicker recovery. Related: FDA Approves New Treatment for Metastatic Pancreatic ******* The 24 hours before the surgery were probably the most nerve-wracking for me. The night before, I was full of a lot of emotions. I didn’t show it to anyone, but at night before I went to sleep, I started crying because I was getting scared. I knew I was in very trusted and good hands, but anything can happen at any moment. And my surgery was a big surgery and a long surgery. I remember praying that if I did not make it through surgery, then that was meant to be. And if I did make it through the surgery, then I knew I was meant for something better and something great in my life. I feel like hard times bring you closer to your faith. So I was praying a lot, and I told God I was okay either way, whatever happened. After the surgery, I was in the hospital for about a week. I underestimated how hardcore the recovery process was going to be. Physical therapy was a big thing for me. After surgery, I had a lot of pain in my lower abdomen and where the surgery was done. So I made sure that I was getting out of bed and walking and building up my stamina. Never miss a story — sign up for PEOPLE’s free daily newsletter to stay up-to-date on the best of what PEOPLE has to offer, from celebrity news to compelling human interest stories. A big part of the Whipple procedure is diet. My gallbladder was also taken out, so that changes your diet a lot. I try to eat really clean, high protein and low-**** foods. I cant eat fried foods, either. The dieticians helped me understand the new way I had to learn to eat. I was in the hospital for seven days, and then I went home for about four days. And I was trying to increase my food intake probably faster than I should have, and my stomach wasn’t ready for that. So I ended up having to go back to City of Hope, and I stayed for another four days. They just wanted to make sure I was digesting food correctly. Then I was able to go home for good. I only had to have surgery, I didn’t have to have chemo — which I’m forever grateful for. I don’t know why I got this *******. No one has ever had pancreatic ******* in my family. Really, ******* isn’t even a thing in my family. Only one person besides me has had *******, and it was breast *******. It’s just a really rare thing. When I looked it up, I learned my diagnosis is more common in ********* communities. So maybe that’s why — I’m ********, I’m Latino on both sides. As new ******* data has come out, younger people are getting diagnosed. The age range that people are getting ******* is getting younger, and we need to have a way for people to find out. That’s why it’s super important for early detection tests for pancreatic *******. Recently City of Hope received a gift from Emmett and Tessa Stephenson for $150 million to further pancreatic research, I was thrilled when I heard about that, it was shortly after my surgery. So I feel like it will go towards just helping more people, and hopefully get early detection tests created. Another really big thing for me since I’ve had ******* is telling my close friends, “Please, please, please, if you ever feel like something is wrong, go to the doctor.” I don’t want them to put off if they’re ever feeling like something’s wrong, because I care about my friends. I feel like it’s made me more of an advocate for being proactive. I got lucky that I decided to take myself to the emergency room that day because of my anxiety. Otherwise, I don’t know when the doctors would’ve found it. And potentially, I would’ve had the same luck that a lot of pancreatic ******* patients have: They catch it late and it’s harder to deal with it. As far as the anxiety, that was something that I truly believe was my body trying to tell me something is wrong and I needed to go get it checked. It’s why I always say, you should listen to your body, your body knows when something isn’t right. Because after I got diagnosed, my anxiety went away, it just vanished, I haven’t had episodes of anxiety since then. After the surgery was done, they did a biopsy of the tumor, and I caught it so early that there had been no active ******* cells in it, which was great. I’m *******-free, which is amazing. I’m getting CT scans every six months for the next couple of years, just making sure that nothing changes and I stay the same, the way I am right now: Healthy. A$AP Rocky’s trial: Five things we learned A$AP Rocky’s trial: Five things we learned Samantha Granville BBC News, Los Angeles Watch: A$AP Rocky found not guilty in assault trial It was a trial that could have dismantled the future for one of hip-hop’s hottest stars. The felony assault trial of A$AP Rocky in Los Angeles captured global headlines, with outbursts during the proceedings and surprise visits in court by his longtime partner, singer Rihanna. Jurors heard three weeks of testimony chronicling the bitter falling out of childhood friends and the fight that led to the rapper, whose real name is Rakim Mayers, being charged on accusations he opened fire in the middle of a Hollywood street. A 12-member jury acquitted him, allowing the rapper to leave freely with singer Rihanna, who was seated behind him as the verdict was read. Here are five big things we learned while inside the courtroom. 1- Unwavering support from RihannaGetty Images The couple locked arms outside the courthouse after the rapper’s acquittal As the not guilty verdict was read in court, the rapper immediately jumped from the defence table and leapt over a wooden barrier to hug Rihanna, who was seated behind him in between his mother and sister. The couple embraced tightly, both breaking into tears as the courtroom erupted in cheers. Rihanna, a Grammy award-winning artist, was in court multiple days during the trial, including on Valentine’s Day. On one of the days in court, she brought the couple’s two young children, who were both dressed in suits with pacifiers in their mouths. You could hear them cooing inside the courtroom as they flipped through children’s books. Joe Tacopina, the rapper’s defence attorney, said Mr Mayers tried to shield Rihanna and their family from the criminal proceedings, but said that “wild horses couldn’t keep her away” from the trial. Though she was often stoic and staring straight ahead while in court, she never flinched or showed emotion when prosecutors made negative comments about her partner. Following his acquittal, Rihanna expressed her gratitude on social media, stating, “The glory belongs to God and God alone! Thankful, humbled by his mercy!” 2- A$AP Mob falling apart?Getty Images Terell Ephron, aka A$AP Relli, testifies during A$AP Rocky’s felony assault trial The A$AP Mob is a hip-hop collective founded in 2006 in Harlem by a group of high school friends in New York. They adopted the “A$AP” title, which means “Always Strive and Prosper”. The group, which has had more than 20 members over the years, have presented themselves as a family, but they’ve been plagued by jealousy, rivalries and disagreements since the death of its founder, A$AP Yams. Though there have been fallouts and issues between some members, this trial is the most notable instance of a complete dismantling of a relationship between members. A$AP Relli, whose legal name is Terell Ephron, was once a close friend and member of the Mob, accused Mr Mayers, known as A$AP Rocky, of shooting him during an altercation in 2021. During the trial, his defence team argued that Mr Ephron harboured resentment toward his former friend, feeling sidelined as A$AP Rocky’s fame grew and saw mainstream musical success. They argued Mr Ephron was after money. Several members of the A$AP Mob testified during the trial in favour of Mr Mayers. A$AP Twelvyy challenged Mr Ephron’s account of the events and suggested that he was the aggressor during the altercation, not Mr Mayers. A$AP Lou also took the stand, telling jurors that a Glock 43 magazine found during a search of Mr Mayers’s home belonged to him, not the rapper. None of the A$AP members publicly testified for Relli. 3- “AWGE” still a mystery? Do you know what AWGE stands for? If you know, I think both me and the jury would love to still know. During the trial, AWGE came up when A$AP Twelvyy was on the stand. He was asked by prosecutors about its meaning. But before he could answer, A$AP Rocky – who was seated with his attorneys – cut in and shouted, “Don’t say!” Twelvvy abided and responded, “I just know it’s AWGE”. It was an astonishing moment. Criminal defendants don’t typically say much during trials – let alone halt a witness from answering a question during their criminal trial. When asked about this exchange after the trial, A$AP Rocky’s attorney Joe Tacopina explained what happened. He said it was an “acronym for his company that had to do with his family. I’m gonna leave it at that.” Mr Tacopina went on to explain it was a private thing that the rapper didn’t want revealed publicly to millions, especially in a criminal court case. But the answer really led to more questions. What does it mean and why is it so secretive? Here’s what we do know: AWGE is name A$AP Rocky’s mysterious creative collective and record label, and it’s long been the subject of intrigue. Founded in 2014, the group operates across music, fashion and art, collaborating with brands like Mercedes-Benz and PacSun. Members include artists, designers and directors, and everyone remains loyal to one rule: no one publicly reveals what “AWGE” actually stands for. On the company’s website there are two rules listed: “#1 Never reveal what AWGE means. #2 When in doubt always refer to rule #1.” A$AP Rocky’s fans do have some guesses though: “A$AP Worldwide Global Enterprises” – A possible nod to the A$AP Mob’s broader brand and business ambitions.”Ain’t Wanna Go Explicit” – This suggests that AWGE represents an inside joke or personal mantra within Rocky’s circle.”All We Got is Everything” – A phrase that aligns with Rocky’s philosophy of creativity and collaboration.”A$AP Worldwide Genius Elite” – Another theory that frames AWGE as a highly curated group of artists and visionaries. Despite the guesses, the rapper and his team have never officially confirmed any meaning. Instead, they’ve leaned into the secrecy, with members often responding to questions about AWGE with the phrase, “If you know, you know.” 4- The height of A$AP Rocky’s fameGetty Images A$AP Rocky’s trial unfolded at a pivotal moment in his career, with the rapper riding a wave of creative and commercial success. The rapper is set to release his first solo album in nearly a decade and is scheduled to co-headline Los Angeles’ Rolling Loud festival in March 2025. Additionally, he is starring in a summer blockbuster alongside Denzel Washington. Director Spike Lee’s upcoming film “Highest 2 Lowest” is slated for a summer release. But his influence extends beyond music—his AWGE collective has been collaborating with brands like Mercedes-Benz and Puma. He’s been celebrated for his fashion sense, too, and is known as being one of music’s best-dressed men. In May, he is set to co-chair the 2025 Met Gala – one of fashion’s biggest nights – alongside big names like Anna Wintour, British race car driver Lewis Hamilton, singer Pharrell Williams and basketball superstar LeBron James. His relationship with Rihanna, one of the most famous singers, has further cemented his cultural relevance. The couple welcomed their second child, Riot Rose, in August 2023, and their growing family had become a symbol of hip-hop royalty. 5- Beef between the lawyers Watch: Moment closing arguments become shouting match in A$AP Rocky trial The trial wasn’t just a battleground for the rapper’s freedom—it also saw intense clashes between legal teams. Celebrity defence attorney Joe Tacopina, known for his aggressive courtroom style, relentlessly challenged the credibility of the prosecution’s key witness, A$AP Relli, whose legal name is Terell Ephron. He painted Mr Ephron as an opportunist seeking financial gain and called the prosecution’s case flimsy due to a lack of physical evidence. Mr Ephron got so fed up with the rapper’s attorney during questioning that he called Mr Tacopina “annoying”. Meanwhile, prosecutors pushed back, accusing Mr Tacopina of attempting to intimidate witnesses and dismiss key testimonies. Both sides were very liberal with their use of objections in court, and it sometimes felt as though both sides were trying to throw the other off their game, rather than being based on legal guidelines. It also got personal between the two sides. At one point during closing arguments, Mr Tacopina and prosecutor John Lewin traded misconduct allegations, with Mr Lewin accusing Mr Tacopina of using steroids and Mr Tacopina firing back by calling Lewin a “hunchback”. After a short break, the judge attempted to lighten the mood by theatrically introducing the attorneys like boxers before resuming the trial. Peter Dutton, former PM Tony Abbott slam Donald Trump over Volodymyr Zelensky ‘dictator’ comments Peter Dutton, former PM Tony Abbott slam Donald Trump over Volodymyr Zelensky ‘dictator’ comments Australia’s politicians have lashed Donald Trump over his inflammatory “dictator” comment about Volodymyr Zelensky and the claim that it was Ukraine, not Russia, that started the war. The US President took to social media overnight to accuse Ukraine of talking the US into spending $350 billion dollars “to go into a war that couldn’t be won” and claiming half of that amount was now missing. And, in a pointed threat to the Ukrainian president, Mr Trump warned he had “better move fast” to reach a peace deal with Russia “or he is not going to have a country left”. Already stung after being sidelined from peace talks, Mr Zelensky returned fire, saying Mr Trump was being influenced by Russian disinformation. Weighing in on the ****** stoush, Opposition Leader Peter Dutton said Mr Trump had got it wrong. He said he was proud Australia had sent support to Ukraine to help it repel the unprovoked and aggressive invasion by Russian troops, which started while he was defence minister in the Morrison Government. “The thought that President Zelensky or the Ukrainian people started this battle, or somehow they were responsible for the war, is just wrong,” he said on 2GB. Mr Dutton said the US was an “incredibly important ally” of Australia’s but that “Australia should stand strong and proud with the people of Ukraine”. “It’s a democracy, and this is a fight for civilization,” he said. “Vladimir Putin is a murderous dictator, and we shouldn’t be giving him an inch. I think President Trump has got it wrong in relation to some of the public commentary that I’ve seen him make in relation to President Zelensky and the situation in Ukraine. “Very, very careful thought needs to be given about the next steps, because if we make Europe less safe, or we provide some sort of support to Putin, deliberately or inadvertently, that is, that is a terrible, terrible outcome.” Australia has committed more than $1.5 billion in aid to Ukraine since Russia’s invasion almost three years ago on February 24, 2022. Former Prime Minister Tony Abbott ridiculed Mr Trump over the comments, saying he was living in “fantasy land”. “Putin started this war. Russia started this war, and anyone who thinks otherwise is living in fantasy land,” Mr Abbott was reported as saying on Times Radio. “Obviously, we want peace, but it can’t just be a surrender to vicious, naked aggression, it can’t be. “The basis for peace has got to be that Ukraine can live in independence and security going forward.” Defence Minister Richard Marles denied Mr Zelensky is a dictator and said he would not be giving a “running commentary on what President Trump is saying”. “The *********** position is that we see that the global rules-based order is under threat by what Russia did in respect of Ukraine,” he said on Sky News. “We will continue to support Ukraine so that they are able to resolve this conflict on their terms.” Source link #Peter #Dutton #Tony #Abbott #slam #Donald #Trump #Volodymyr #Zelensky #dictator #comments Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content] For verified travel tips and real support, visit: [Hidden Content]

Why one Nvidia bull thinks things look ‘spectacular’ heading into the AI chipmaker’s earnings Why one Nvidia bull thinks things look ‘spectacular’ heading into the AI chipmaker’s earnings The Nvidia (NVDA) bulls continue to defend their favorite stock in the world heading into the chipmaker’s earnings report next week. Despite DeepSeek’s challenge to thinking about AI costs, some analysts are staying upbeat on Nvidia. However, that comes with a few notes of caution — in particular, about a first quarter outlook that may not satisfy elevated market expectations. “Near-term dynamics are fluid (January quarter to July quarter) … while long-term (October quarter and onward) our work suggests looks frankly spectacular,” Loop Capital analyst Ananda Baruah wrote in a client note on Wednesday. Baruah reiterated a $175 price target on Nvidia, which assumes 25% upside from current levels. Added Baruah, “Big picture we believe that two to three year Street numbers remain low as our work with both customers and the Nvidia build ecosystem points [to] … Nvidia GPU reaching 10 million to 12 million as hyperscalers look to increase their percentage on non-CPU compute to 50% plus in coming years (from ~10% currently). Remember … for Nvidia the story is accelerated compute + Gen AI, which means it is facing two $1.0 trillion compute market opportunities ahead of it in coming years, each of which is just at the very start.” Nvidia stock was up less than 1% in premarket trading at $140 each. NasdaqGS – Delayed Quote • USD At close: February 19 at 4:00:00 PM EST While Nvidia shares have rallied back about 23% from the early February lows, sentiment on the company’s fundamentals has become more mixed. Podcast: How Bill Gates views Nvidia Evercore analyst Mark Lipacis wrote in a recent note that there are three reasons for the more cautious tone: 1) DeepSeek lowering AI demand in aggregate, 2) DeepSeek shifting AI compute cycles away from Nvidia GPUs and to ASICs [custom chips], and 3) Blackwell chip delays. China-based DeepSeek surprised markets in late January after unveiling RI, its AI model that gives a ChatGPT-esque performance at a cheaper price tag. RI cost a reported $5.6 million to build a base model, compared with the hundreds of millions of dollars incurred at US-based companies such as OpenAI and Anthropic. Fears mounted instantly that US companies are overspending on AI infrastructure, which includes Nvidia chips. “Conventional wisdom all of last year was that training amazing models was going to be possible for only a handful of companies,” Snowflake (SNOW) CEO Sridhar Ramaswamy told me on Yahoo Finance’s Opening Bid podcast. “What DeepSeek has done over the past few weeks is shatter that belief by saying they can train a model for $6 million.” Story Continues The Street has nonetheless stuck with backing Nvidia in the run-up to its earnings report on Feb. 26 but with some caution about the near term. “We expect a modest fourth quarter beat but the first quarter outlook could face headwinds from Blackwell transition, Hopper declines and China restrictions,” BofA analyst Vivek Arya wrote in a note on Tuesday. “The stock could be volatile post results, but we expect positive momentum to resume as investors look forward to Nvidia’s leading new product pipeline (GB300, Rubin) and total addressable market expansion into robotics and quantum technologies at upcoming GTC conference (March 17).” Arya has one of the more aggressive price targets on Nvidia on the Street at $190. To that end, Yahoo Finance data shows Nvidia’s first quarter earnings per share trend has drifted modestly lower over the past 30 days. The Street has also not pushed up its 2025 EPS estimates on Nvidia for more than 60 days. Brian Sozzi is Yahoo Finance’s Executive Editor. Follow Sozzi on X @BrianSozzi, Instagram, and LinkedIn. With the Humane AI Pin now dead, what does the Rabbit R1 need to do to survive? With the Humane AI Pin now dead, what does the Rabbit R1 need to do to survive? The excitement around the Humane AI Pin has faded. The company behind the $700 AI device has sold its assets to HP for $116 million, and some of the employees have joined the company. It’s a lot of money, but not exactly a coup for Humane, considering the startup had raised over $230 million. HP discontinuing the AI Pin is just the capper. The withering of Humane’s fortunes has more significant implications for another AI device, the Rabbit’s R1. The chirpy little AI gadget and the startup behind it may end up in a similar place as Humane if it’s not careful. There are plenty of reasons why Humane may have failed, though I have a few theories. The biggest reason may have been a lack of features people wanted. There were some intriguing ideas, like the screenless interaction with the AI, the laser projector that looked great in demo videos, and the continual link to the AI assistant. However, the reviews all highlighted slow AI processing, unreliable hardware, and feeling like the $24 monthly subscription fee was too much, especially on top of the $700 purchase price. As AI apps like ChatGPT improved, many may have decided they could get all the features they liked from their smartphone and returned the Humane AI Pin. Rabbit should be taking notes. Right now, the R1 is struggling with some of the exact same issues: a lack of must-have features, performance hiccups, and a growing sense that it’s an inessential accessory. Rushing out a prototype too quickly when the hardware is still unstable is a problem, especially when the hardware is the main selling point. A lack of certain features, like messaging and social media support, raises the same questions about its value as Humane faced. Rabbit hole I think the R1 can survive if Rabbit makes the right moves. That includes upgrading the R1’s Large Action Model (LAM) AI engine. The LAM is supposed to be the magic sauce that makes the R1 superior to Siri or Alexa, but even being just as good won’t help it stand out. It needs to be instant and accurate when booking a ride, answering a question, or summarizing emails. Rabbit should throw everything they have into improving LAM, even if that means bringing in outside help and partnering with OpenAI or Anthropic. Rabbit also needs to get deals in place to work with WhatsApp, Slack, and the Android and iOS messaging services at the very least. Even better, they should lean into voice-based messaging and AI-powered summaries, though they’d need to make sure they work at least as well as Apple Intelligence. Ultimately, Rabbit needs to work out its positioning. Right now, it’s unclear who the R1 is for. Is it a productivity tool? A digital assistant for busy professionals? A toy for tech enthusiasts? Instead of trying to be everything to everyone, they should focus on a specific audience and go all in. If they position the R1 as an ultra-efficient personal AI secretary, something that can handle voice-to-text notes, summarize meetings, and manage calendars in a smoother way than any smartphone assistant, they might find a real niche. And let’s not forget developers. Rabbit should aggressively court third-party developers, giving them the tools to build new integrations and apps for the R1. A strong developer ecosystem could turn the R1 from a novelty into a platform. The Rabbit R1 isn’t doomed yet, but it is at a crossroads. It risks becoming another Humane AI Pin, an ambitious but ultimately forgettable attempt at AI hardware. But if Rabbit takes decisive action, it might just pull a, well, rabbit out of its AI hat. British tourist dies while trekking with friend in Himalayas British tourist dies while trekking with friend in Himalayas @HP_SDRF/X The local rescue team said the terrain was “challenging” as they stretchered the man down the mountain A British tourist has died while trekking with a friend in the Himalaya mountains in northern India. The two British men were hiking in “extremely difficult terrain” near the village of Thathri in Dharamshala when one of them was critically injured, local emergency services said. The man was rescued and taken down the mountain on a stretcher, but by the time he reached hospital nearly 24 hours later he was declared dead, rescuers said. The Foreign Office said it was “supporting the family of a British man who has died in India and are in contact with the local authorities”. According to the Times of India, the pair were hiking the Triund trek, a popular route of about 7km (4.3 miles) in the foothills of the Dhauladhar mountain range. They were on their descent when one of the men fell and his friend sought help from the nearby village, the newspaper reports. Local rescuers, the Himachal Pradesh State Disaster Response Force, said on X that the call for their help had come in at 18:00 on Sunday, and a team of 10 people had been sent up the mountain to search for the men. “After four hours of trekking, the team located the victims at 10:30pm with one trekker in a critical condition. They secured the critical trekker onto a stretcher and began the challenging descent along with his co trekker. “The rough terrain and repeated crossings of a rivulet made progress extremely slow, requiring nearly two hours to cover just 100 meters.” Getty Images The two men had reportedly trekked to Triund – a small hill station, pictured – and were on their descent when the injury happened Overnight the team requested backup, and more rescuers arrived in the morning. “They continued transporting the victims but faced extreme difficulty due to the steep landscape, requiring multiple anchorings of the stretcher.” The man was finally taken to hospital at 17:08 on Monday but was declared dead on arrival, rescuers added. His friend was unharmed. The local authorities in Kangra district had brought in a temporary ban on trekking in high-altitude areas, but the Times of India says the two tourists were unaware of it. It said they had reached the snowline – the part of the mountain where snow is on the ground all year round. The victim has yet to be formally identified. Multiple major automakers just reported their electric vehicle sales for January — here’s who surprisingly topped the list Multiple major automakers just reported their electric vehicle sales for January — here’s who surprisingly topped the list A surprise player in the electric vehicle market topped January’s leaderboard for sales in the United States. According to Electrek, the Honda Prologue led the pack with 3,744 cars sold, continuing its unexpected upward trend. It was released in March 2024 and became the seventh-highest-selling EV in the country last year at just over 33,000. The Ford Mustang Mach-E finished second behind the Prologue last month, posting its best-ever January with 3,529 units sold — a 173% spike from January 2024. That surge propelled the automaker to a January record of 5,666 total EVs sold and made up for the decrease in sales of both the F-150 Lightning and the E-Transit van. Despite the former’s 15% drop from December into January, the electric truck still finished fourth overall, with 1,907 models sold. Hyundai’s Ioniq 5 slotted in at third, increasing its sales by 54% for a total of 2,250 models sold. Its Ioniq 6 also recorded an increase in sales but finished eighth at 871 units sold. Meanwhile, Kia sold 1,542 EV6s and 1,232 EV9s in January, finishing fifth and sixth in the nation, respectively. The Subaru Solterra was close behind at seventh, with 1,052 models sold. Watch now: Giant snails invading New York City? Though the list is not exhaustive — neither Tesla nor GM announces its monthly sales — Honda, Hyundai, Ford, and Kia all reported higher EV sales to start 2025 following a strong end to 2024. Electrek wrote that U.S. consumers bought nearly 133,000 EVs last December, accounting for a record-breaking 8.8% of all new cars sold. It also cited data from Cox Automotive’s Kelley Blue Book, which relayed that this flourish capped off a year-over-year improvement of 7.3% for the industry, with 1.3 million EVs purchased in 2024. The Trump administration’s plan to reverse EV tax credits as part of the Inflation Reduction Act has likely fueled demand from those looking to take advantage of the benefits while they’re still around. Story continues While savings from the federal government may soon cease to exist, the price of EVs is still becoming more reasonable as manufacturers continue to develop cost-efficient batteries. It’s yet another reason for prospective buyers to transition from an internal combustion engine car to an EV, as the latter requires less maintenance and doesn’t produce any tailpipe emissions that contribute to the planet’s overheating. “I am starting to see a lot of Equinox EV and Lyriq as well as Prologue around SF Bay Area. That means those vehicles are starting to move/sell well,” one Electrek reader commented. Hawks expect Days and Kell back, Harry Froling pops in Hawks expect Days and Kell back, Harry Froling pops in Illawarra expect to have imports Trey Kell III and Darius Days back from injury for their NBL playoff series against South East Melbourne. It comes as the Hawks welcome Harry Froling to practice as the big man continues his inspirational journey back to basketball. Kell (groin/hip) and Days (hamstring) respectively missed the final two and four regular-season games as Illawarra finished atop the ladder for the first time since their inception in 1979. Days’ injury was the more serious; the forward was substituted out of a win over Brisbane on January 20 and subsequently ruled out for the remainder of the regular season. The hamstring issue loomed as a possible blow to the Hawks’ hopes of a fairytale second NBL title. Days sat out of practice on Thursday but has resumed running. He is expected to join the team for full training next week and be available for the first match of Illawarra’s best-of-three series against the Phoenix, to be played in Wollongong next Friday. “We’re just taking precautionary reasons so he’ll be back in full practice on Monday. Then we’ll have our full team,” coach Justin Tatum told AAP. “It’s something that Darius will learn and help his years as a professional be extended, with the way you have to treat your body. “Not saying he wasn’t in the beginning (of the season), but since he did get hurt, you’ve got to find a way to get back and caught up.” Recently selected in the All-NBL First Team, Kell completed a full training session on Thursday and said his recent absence had largely been precautionary. “Once we got to a point where we clinched a top-two (finish), I kind of sat down with our medical team and JT,” he told AAP. “That’s the great thing of having a great year and the great start that we had, being able to have the luxury of not having to play through (injury).” Froling has joined the Hawks at training in recent weeks as he targets a return to basketball. The Former Hawks and Bullets big man has not played since January 2023, when a one-punch attack on the streets of Wollongong left him fighting for life in hospital. He has since signed with the NBL1’s Southern Districts Spartans for the semi-professional competition’s season that begins in May. In late December, brother and Hawks centre Sam asked Tatum whether Froling could join the side for some light training in the new year. The former NBL rookie of the year is participating in fitness drills, not scrimmages yet, and the Hawks have stressed the arrangement is an informal one. But Tatum wouldn’t rule out approaching the 26-year-old with a contract offer at some stage. “Time will tell, but seeing him a month or two early in advance definitely helps his chances,” he said. “I opened up with open arms when I found out he wanted to come back and start gradually working out. “It’s good to see him back after the situation he’s been through.” Source link #Hawks #expect #Days #Kell #Harry #Froling #pops Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content]

I Have $2.5 Million Invested With My Financial Advisor and Pay a 1% Fee. Am I Paying Too Much? I Have $2.5 Million Invested With My Financial Advisor and Pay a 1% Fee. Am I Paying Too Much? SmartAsset and Yahoo Finance LLC may earn commission or revenue through links in the content below. The answer is, there are a lot of answers to this question. The simple one is: around 1%. That’s the average rate that a professional financial advisor charges to manage your money. The better one is: it depends entirely on what services you need and how much money you have. A financial advisor should charge you more for a more comprehensive service plan, and they will typically charge less to manage greater wealth. For example, say that you have $2.5 million invested with your financial advisor (known as “Assets Under Management” or AUM). A 1% fee would be around average, although you can probably get a better price for this kind of money. The more important question, though, is whether you’re getting the right services for your money. The first thing to remember is that financial advisors can charge a variety of fee structures based on their underlying services. The most common options are: It’s not uncommon for advisors to have a varied fee schedule based on the services that you select at any given time. For example, an advisor might charge a percentage to manage your investment portfolio while also charging a fixed-fee to file your taxes and an hourly rate for financial advice. This is known as fee-based services. Many other advisors will package all services into a single overall percentage fee. In this case, you receive a range of services included in your AUM percentage fee. This is known as fee-only services. It is very important to understand whether your advisor charges on a fee-based or fee-only model, otherwise you can wind up with surprise charges. In all cases, be cautious of advisors that charge commissions or that charge little (if any) costs to you. These are not necessarily indicia that the advisor is untrustworthy, but both can be a sign that your advisor receives payments from a third party. For example, an advisor might receive commissions from a mutual fund for each client placed in that fund. This is not ******** or suspicious per se, but does create a conflict of interest worth addressing. Make sure to discuss whether your advisor receives payments from any third parties, and be very careful about investing with an advisor that does not have a fiduciary duty to you. Consider matching with a vetted fiduciary financial advisor if you’re interested in professional guidance or a change of advisors. For an investor with $2.5 million under management, this is the first step: What services are you getting? Given the amount of wealth here, it would be fairly common for your advisor to provide whole-picture (fee-only) financial services. If you are paying 1% on that kind of portfolio, you should probably be getting financial planning, tax advice, estate advice and other services beyond just portfolio management. So, when it comes to portfolio management, what’s the average fee? Information on this subject is relatively limited, in large part because professionals in this field tend to guard their and their clients’ privacy. However, a handful of firms such as Advisory HQ, Comply, and Harness have looked at the issue. These studies consistently report two findings: First, the standard range for advisory fees is between 0.5% and 2.0% Second, the average advisory fee is approximately 1.0% (specifically ranging from 0.95% to 1.02%) When it comes to flat rates and hourly fees, the range is similarly broad. A typical hourly fee ranges from around $120 to $300 per hour depending on the nature of the services performed. Clients should expect to pay higher prices for more complicated work and more experienced advisors. A standard flat fee will range from around $1,000 to $3,000 for most standard services. For example, this is around what the ordinary household should expect to pay for tax preparation or making an overall financial plan. For more comprehensive services or high-net-worth households, standard fees will range from around $7,500 to $55,000. For example, a household with around $5 million to invest, looking for an overall financial and investment plan should expect to pay around $40,000 for a flat-fee financial planner. It’s important to remember that these are only the fees charged by your financial advisor. This does not necessarily reflect your total costs of investment, because you might also pay fees charged by third parties. This is most common if you invest in funds or other portfolio-based assets. For example, here your financial advisor charges 1% per year to manage your portfolio. Say that you also hold a mutual fund that charges a 0.8% annual management fee. That segment of your portfolio would cost 1.8% per year in combined fees. The same is true, as noted above, when you work with a fee-based financial advisor. In this case, your advisor might include transaction fees or other costs on top of the annual management fee. Make sure to understand the true total cost of your investments, not just the face-value annual charges, and discuss this with your advisor. Here, you have $2.5 million under management. At time of writing, this means that you’ll pay about $25,000 in management fees just this year alone. What should you expect for that money? For starters, you should expect a modest discount. On average, clients with that kind of portfolio tend to pay closer to 0.9% in annual fees. This isn’t a big difference, but it could save you $2,500 per year which isn’t nothing. Beyond that, look at two issues: services and returns. You have a lot of money here, so you really will want a decent range of financial services to make the most of your wealth. A good financial advisor can help you across many domains, including tax planning and preparation, long-term wealth management, retirement planning, and an overall financial strategy to help you grow and preserve this wealth. You also want someone who can help grow your portfolio and invest your money. Basically, what kind of returns are they helping you get? And how do those returns meet your current financial needs? Investment growth is not the only financial issue for most people. You might have other goals, such as security or long-term targets, in which case your financial advisor might provide benefits beyond the volatility of a market-exposed portfolio. SmartAsset’s proprietary valuation model suggests that there are a plethora of ways advisors add value to their client’s bottom line, and that the benefit may average 2.39% to 2.78% annually for people with advisors — even after accounting for fees. You’re currently paying 1% per year to manage a $2.5 million portfolio. That’s slightly high, but around average. You may be able to negotiate a lower fee with your advisor. However, the real question here is what you’re getting for your money. When it comes to financial services, you can spend much less than this and get the kind of planning and preparation that you need. If you’re happy with your investment and portfolio plan, then this looks about right. If not, then consider shopping around with SmartAsset’s free tool that matches people to vetted fiduciary financial advisors. If you have a financial advisor, around 1% per year is around the average fee for assets under management. However, make sure that you’re actually getting value for your money. Look at the plan, returns, security and services that your financial advisor provides because 1% is average, but the important question is whether it’s right for you. You can also negotiate your rate or search for a different advisor. Picking the right financial advisor is like picking a doctor. This isn’t just about whether someone is open and accepting new clients, you need to connect, like and trust each other. So here are 7 tips for making sure you build a relationship with the right person. Finding a financial advisor doesn’t have to be hard. SmartAsset’s free tool matches you with vetted financial advisors who serve your area, and you can have a free introductory call with your advisor matches to decide which one you feel is right for you. If you’re ready to find an advisor who can help you achieve your financial goals, get started now. Keep an emergency fund on hand in case you run into unexpected expenses. An emergency fund should be liquid — in an account that isn’t at risk of significant fluctuation like the stock market. The tradeoff is that the value of liquid cash can be eroded by inflation. But a high-interest account allows you to earn compound interest. Compare savings accounts from these banks. Are you a financial advisor looking to grow your business? Switch to green iron could strengthen emission cuts Switch to green iron could strengthen emission cuts Australia could become a major global supplier of green metals after the announcement of a $1 billion fund to support production of green iron and steel. Announced as part of the Whyalla steelworks transformation package on Thursday, the Green Iron Investment Fund will be split between transforming the existing South *********** steelworks plant and investing in green iron ore and steel projects. Environmental and energy groups welcomed the move, saying it had the potential to establish Australia as a large renewable energy supplier and to cut global greenhouse gas emissions. Green iron is produced using environmentally friendly energy sources such as renewable electricity and green hydrogen rather than coal or gas, and can cut carbon emissions from production by up to 90 per cent. The $1 billion fund, designed in consultation with the Green Metals Expert Panel established last year, will make $500 million available to applicants with green iron and steel projects in existing and new facilities. The fund was designed to take advantage of Australia’s existing strengths in iron and steel production, Federal Industry and Science Minister Ed Husic said, as well as the nation’s renewable energy resources. “Green iron (is) in demand and will be in greater demand in the years to come,” he said. “If we get this right (it’s) great for the country, great for Whyalla, and great for also regional communities and blue-collar communities that depend on the product.” Australia is the world’s largest producer of iron ore, exporting more than 892 million tonnes of the mineral to be smelted overseas during 2023, according to the Department of Industry, Science and Resources. But iron and steel production account for eight per cent of global carbon emissions and *********** Conservation Foundation climate policy adviser Annika Reynolds said investments in cutting that pollution could have a global benefit. “If Australia decarbonised our iron and steel production and retained more of our iron ore onshore to smelt it here before exporting it as green steel, it could cut global emissions by as much as four per cent,” they said. “Green iron and steel are critical parts of Australia’s future economy, while our country’s polluting coal and gas exports should be consigned to the past.” A move from coal-fired plants to green iron and steel production could also help secure a future for Australia’s minerals industry, Smart Energy Council chief executive John Grimes said, amid increasing interest worldwide in cutting emissions. “Global markets are demanding green iron and green metals but that’s not what we’re producing,” he said. “Not only are our trading partners telling us that they want decarbonised product, they’re looking elsewhere to source it.” Existing green metals projects in Australia include Fortescue’s Christmas Creek mine that is using renewable hydrogen and a green iron facility being investigated by Quinbrook Infrastructure Partners in Gladstone. The green iron and steel fund also comes weeks after the federal government announced a $2 billion investment into green aluminium, offering a production credit to encourage producers to move to renewable energy sources by 2036. Jim Keller says a ‘great Intel’ is worth $1 trillion, company would be sold at fire ***** pricing if sold now Jim Keller says a ‘great Intel’ is worth $1 trillion, company would be sold at fire ***** pricing if sold now When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. Credit: Tenstorrent Ex-Intel lead silicon engineer Jim Keller says Intel may not make as much money as it used to earn historically, but selling the company or some of its businesses is not a way to unlock shareholder value, but rather a fire ***** of a company that has high chances to prosper. Jim Keller, a legendary chip designer and now the chief executive officer of Tenstorrent, a promising AI processor developer, took to Twitter to express his views on the latest news of a potential split or ***** of Intel. “You build value by having a great goal and a team that loves working to the goal,” Keller wrote in an X post. “Intel built the fastest CPUs on the best process [technologies]. This [Handling Intel’s businesses to third parties] is not unlocking shareholder value, it is a fire *****. It makes me sad.” “[…] I think a great Intel is worth $1 trillion. Seems a little careless to throw it away,” he added later. The latest rumors indicate that Broadcom could be interested in taking over Intel’s products business, whereas the Intel Foundry unit could form a joint venture with TSMC or even with a conglomerate involving TSMC, Broadcom, Qualcomm, and other companies that would inject money into a new independent chipmaker. One commenter in the thread suggested that a better outcome for Intel would be to become a private company with the help of American investors, fire the current board of directors, and then take the time to reinvent Intel. “It would be hard but doable,” Keller wrote in another post. “Humans are amazing when they have a great goal and a team they believe in.” The current U.S. government will unlikely support Intel’s fabs being run by TSMC or other foreign entities, even though the Trump administration encourages domestic manufacturing. However, if Intel gives up its own manufacturing, it will not only cease to be an integrated device manufacturer (IDM) but also lose one of its strong points: complete control over products and their manufacturing. Also, it’s unlikely that TSMC and other potential investors will be tremendously interested in investing in Intel Foundry, which bleeds money as it has yet to land orders from major companies. However, companies with deep pockets, such as Broadcom, could take over Intel’s products division to gain CPU capability and world-class product design teams. However, a change of Intel ownership automatically terminates the company’s broad cross-licensing agreement with AMD. This means the new entity could lose access to innovations developed by AMD and shared between companies as part of their broad cross-license agreement unless a new agreement is inked.
