See Trump stumble with ‘nepo baby’ hires as facts shred his diversity attacks: Melber breakdown
In this special report, MSNBC anchor and attorney Ari Melber reports on the data on gender and racial diversity across U.S. institutions, providing a factual and historical lens for recent attacks on diversity programs and recruitment — which are often heated and sometimes misleading. The report rigorously compares asserted claims about qualifications and merit by some critics of “DEI” programs with Trump’s hiring approach in his second term. Melber also discusses legitimate, long running debates about affirmative action policy to misleading claims about the facts on diverse representation in Congress and top corporations, and efforts to misuse the policy debate for political ends or to stoke racial division. Despite All Its Positives, Poor Masterworking RNG Continues to Plague Diablo 4 in Season 7
Despite All Its Positives, Poor Masterworking RNG Continues to Plague Diablo 4 in Season 7
Diablo 4 has been out for almost two years and even with multiple updates and new content, some issues have persisted in the game. And today we complain about the horrendous RNG for Masterworking. The system meant to improve our late-game progression has proven to be more punishing than rewarding.
Almost two years in and still so many issues. | Image Credit: Blizzard Entertainment
And we can really just blame the bad RNG for this. Players have reported burning through massive amounts of Obducite to get nothing. Okay, so the RNG is bad, at least we can reroll the stats right? Well, for an unreasonable price, so even there you’re a bit screwed.
Diablo 4‘s Masterworking system has more than one problem
It’s just not worth the grind. | Image Credit: RageGamingVideos/YouTube
Masterworking was introduced as a high-level upgrade system in Diablo 4 for players to make their Ancestral Legendary, Unique, and Mythic Unique items better. The currency used for these upgrades is Obducite, which we can get by farming Nightmare Dungeons, the Undercity, and Infernal Hordes.
Masterworking is a new crafting system in #DiabloIV.

— Diablo (@Diablo) May 15, 2024
Each upgrade boosts all affixes by 5%, but critical breakpoints at Rank 4, 8, and 12 apply a 25% bonus to a random affix. The problem with it is that when these larger bonuses land on less useful affixes, it forces us into a frustrating cycle of resetting gear to farm materials all over again. It kinda makes the entire process feel like an expensive gamble rather than a rewarding system.
To reset Masterworking, you need 30 Iron Chunks, 20 Veiled Crystals, 5 Forgotten Souls, and 5 million gold. An absolutely large amount of resources makes it impractical to chase good rolls, much less perfect ones. That is unless you want to farm unreasonable amounts of resources.
Garbage game as always, rng in masterworking it’s worst thing you ever made and made players gone away from Diablo 4. It’s impossible that I’d lost 4 rings cause bad rng that never give one, ONE, correct affix in 20 rolls! Maybe you must leave the game and close with this circus!
— Davide (@davidenovelli) January 29, 2025
It’s a bad RNG system and players aren’t hesitating to call it out. There have been multiple posts on the game’s subreddit where players have called out the system. Some have reported spending tens of thousands of Obducite without getting a double or triple MW Crit on their desired affix. A Reddit user shared that they spent 32,000 Obducite without getting two critical upgrades on the same affix.
There’s no time for the game to have problems like these
The ARPG genre is too competitive for that. | Image Credit: Blizzard Entertainment
While Masterworking gets much of the criticism, some players argue that Tempering is even worse. Tempering is the system that lets players add more fixes to their gear. And if you’ve played the game, you know that it’s even worse because not rolling the right affix can completely brick an item. And unlike Masterwork, there is no reset or reroll option. We hope Blizzard addresses this in the next big update.
Many players believe that Diablo 4’s Masterworking system would be significantly improved with minor tweaks. One of the theories that fans have is to let players reset only the last Masterworking upgrade for a smaller cost instead of rolling back the entire item. Or some sort of that combo. Cheaper cost for one reset at a time.
Diablo 4 is facing competition in 2025 from the newly released Path of Exile 2 and the already existing Last Epoch. If Blizzard wants to retain its player base and keep Diablo 4 competitive, the developers have to listen to the players.

E.T. drone home?
An airport in Turkey was forced to suspend operations after a mysterious unidentified flying object was spotted in the sky.
The incident occurred on Tuesday, Feb. 18, at 10 p.m. after pilots spotted the UFO traveling near Gaziantep Airport in Gaziantep at an altitude of approximately 10,000 feet, the Mirror reported.
Alarmed, they radioed the control tower, prompting the air hub to ground all flights for an hour while they tried to identify the mystery craft — which apparently did not appear on the radar, according to local outlets.
“Open contact is definitely happening before 2027,” declared one conspiracy theorist on Reddit in response to the event. phonlamaiphoto – stock.adobe.com
Following their investigation, airport security concluded that the UFO was likely a drone being piloted without permission. The airport subsequently resumed operations at around 11 p.m.
Conspiracists on Reddit were skeptical of the drone explanation for the UFO, which they believed was clear evidence of extraterrestrial activity.
“Open contact is definitely happening before 2027,” declared one tinfoil hatter.

Other commenters shared their own alleged close encounters of the first kind.
“I swear I saw this at San Francisco Airport (SFO) a few weeks ago,” insisted one. “I saw an oddly bright object pass over the hills (from the direction of the ocean) going East, towards the North side of the airport and just hover there.”
They added, “I was on the highway so I couldn’t get a good look at it, but I wonder what the hell that was. I also saw an object fly from Oakland to San Francisco in about 5-10 seconds (that’s about 5-10 miles in f that ******* of time) with no red or green lights, just a blue-colored sphere.”

This wouldn’t be the first time some unusual sky activity has found people’s tinfoil hats at full mast.
In 2024, Enigma Labs — an NYC-based app that uses crowdsourcing tech to identify “unidentified aerial phenomena” (UAPs) — received a total of 22,000 sightings of unmanned aircraft with most concentrated in the Northeast.
A staggering 154 were reported last month alone — including sightings in Hoboken and Stockton, New Jersey.
Over half of reports to Enigma described the objects “hovering” for extended periods, while 25% claimed that the objects were traveling in swarms of five or more.
Federal officials dismissed the Garden State sightings as misidentified planes approaching the area’s airports, but civilian drone experts believed there was more at play.
“It’s gotta be military or some sort of government entity,” declared Hayley Connelly, who runs North Jersey Drone Shots with her husband and is an authority on the civilian market.
The pair told The Post the drones appeared to be outfitted with cutting-edge technology that is not available to civilians, including extremely long battery life, weather resistance and immense size for the altitudes they were flying.

Germany’s election will usher in new leadership — but might not change its economy
Germany’s election will usher in new leadership — but might not change its economy

The struggling ******* economy has been a major talking point among critics of Chancellor Olaf Scholz’ government during the latest election campaign — but analysts warn a new leadership might not turn these tides.
As voters prepare to head to the polls, it is now all but certain that Germany will soon have a new chancellor. The Christian Democratic Union’s Friedrich Merz is the firm favorite.
Merz has not shied away from blasting Scholz’s economic policies and from linking them to the lackluster state of Europe’s largest economy. He argues that a government under his leadership would give the economy the boost it needs.
Experts speaking to CNBC were less sure.
“There is a high risk that Germany will get a refurbished economic model after the elections, but not a brand new model that makes the competition jealous,” Carsten Brzeski, global head of macro at ING, told CNBC.
The CDU/CSU economic agenda
The CDU, which on a federal level ties up with regional sister party the Christian Social Union, is running on a “typical economic conservative program,” Brzeski said.
It includes income and corporate tax cuts, fewer subsidies and less bureaucracy, changes to social benefits, deregulation, support for innovation, start-ups and artificial intelligence and boosting investment among other policies, according to CDU/CSU campaigners.
“The weak parts of the positions are that the CDU/CSU is not very precise on how it wants to increase investments in infrastructure, digitalization and education. The intention is there, but the details are not,” Brzeski said, noting that the union appears to be aiming to revive Germany’s economic model without fully overhauling it.
“It is still a reform program which pretends that change can happen without pain,” he said.
Geraldine Dany-Knedlik, head of forecasting at research institute DIW Berlin, noted that the CDU is also looking to reach gross domestic product growth of around 2% again through its fiscal and economic program called “Agenda 2030.”
But reaching such levels of economic expansion in Germany “seems unrealistic,” not just temporarily, but also in the long run, she told CNBC.
Germany’s GDP declined in both 2023 and 2024. Recent quarterly growth readings have also been teetering on the verge of a technical recession, which has so far been narrowly avoided. The ******* economy shrank by 0.2% in the fourth quarter, compared with the previous three-month stretch, according to the latest reading.
Europe’s largest economy faces pressure in key industries like the auto sector, issues with infrastructure like the country’s rail network and a housebuilding crisis.
Dany-Knedlik also flagged the so-called debt brake, a long-standing fiscal rule that is enshrined in Germany’s constitution, which limits the size of the structural budget deficit and how much debt the government can take on.
Whether or not the clause should be overhauled has been a big part of the fiscal debate ahead of the election. While the CDU ideally does not want to change the debt brake, Merz has said that he may be open to some reform.
“To increase growth prospects substantially without increasing debt also seems rather unlikely,” DIW’s Dany-Knedlik said, adding that, if public investments were to rise within the limits of the debt brake, significant tax increases would be unavoidable.
“Taking into account that a 2 Percent growth target is to be reached within a 4 year legislation *******, the Agenda 2030 in combination with conservatives attitude towards the debt break to me reads more of a wish list than a straight forward economic growth program,” she said.
Franziska Palmas, senior Europe economist at Capital Economics, sees some benefits to the plans of the CDU-CSU union, saying they would likely “be positive” for the economy, but warning that the resulting boost would be small.
“Tax cuts would support consumer spending and private investment, but weak sentiment means consumers may save a significant share of their additional after-tax income and firms may be reluctant to invest,” she told CNBC.
Palmas nevertheless pointed out that not everyone would come away a winner from the new policies. Income tax cuts would benefit middle- and higher-income households more than those with a lower income, who would also be affected by potential reductions of social benefits.
Coalition talks ahead
Following the Sunday election, the CDU/CSU will almost certainly be left to find a coalition partner to form a majority government, with the Social Democratic Party or the Green party emerging as the likeliest candidates.
The parties will need to broker a coalition agreement outlining their joint goals, including on the economy — which could prove to be a difficult undertaking, Capital Economics’ Palmas said.
“The CDU and the SPD and Greens have significantly different economic policy positions,” she said, pointing to discrepancies over taxes and regulation. While the CDU/CSU want to reduce both items, the SPD and Greens seek to raise taxes and oppose deregulation in at least some areas, Palmas explained.
The group is nevertheless likely to hold the power in any potential negotiations as it will likely have their choice between partnering with the SPD or Greens.
“Accordingly, we suspect that the coalition agreement will include most of the CDU’s main economic proposals,” she said.

World War II aviation history for ***** — tucked away in central California farmland
World War II aviation history for ***** — tucked away in central California farmland
Uniquely is a Fresno Bee series that covers the moments, landmarks and personalities that define what makes living in the Fresno area so special.
A central San Joaquin Valley airport with historic ties to World War II is for *****.
Located amid acres and acres of farmland in the small Tulare County town of Strathmore, the Eckert Field Airport is for ***** with an asking price of $1.275 million.
Roughly 80 years ago, the airport facility located about 65 miles southeast of Fresno was originally the Trauger Auxiliary Field and used by the United States military for training during World War II.
These days, smaller aircraft occasionally fly in and out of Eckert Field, and some of its hangars (there are 20 on site) are still used to store planes.
“It’s not a commercial airport, but it’s still an active airport,” said listing real estate agent Sandy Jamison, whose work includes a side niche in aviation real estate.
Eckert Field, a small airport facility in the small South Valley town of Strathmore, is for ***** $1.275 million. The runway is about 2,000 feet long and 50 feet wide. The airport has ties to World War II.
Eckert Field has been on the market since October.
“A lot of World War II buffs have been interested in the property,” Jamison said. “It’s hard to find an airport for *****.”
While many of the potential buyers who’ve looked at the airport property have had little problems with the price tag, there have been some concerns of the runway’s limitations and the condition of other structures.
With Eckert Field’s landing strip considered to be on the smaller side for an airport with a runway 2,000 feet long and 50 feet wide, only smaller planes like the popular Cessna 172 can utilize the airstrip.
Eckert Field, a small airport facility in the small South Valley town of Strathmore, is for ***** for $1.275 million. The airport has ties to World War II.
By comparison, the Porterville Municipal Airport, which is the next closest airport in the Strathmore area, provides a runway that’s 6,000 feet long and 150 field wide.
The Fresno Yosemite International Airport, the most popular commercial airport in the Central Valley, has a runway that’s 9,539 feet long and 150 feet wide.
“Eckert Field is a pretty cool, old airport,” pilot Robert Byker told FlyingMag.com. “But it’s scary to fly into for many pilots.
“I trained out there, so the short runway doesn’t scare me. But for many pilots that are training, they look at it and say ‘That’s awfully short.’“
Historic ties at rural California airport
Despite Eckert Field’s limitations, the public airport has been used plenty over the years.
Even by celebrities.
According to the article by Flying Magazine, popular actor Steve McQueen, who starred in box-office films in the late 1950s through the mid-1970s, would visit Eckert Field en route to aviation gatherings in Porterville.
Years earlier, //when it was Trauger Auxiliary Field, it was used as part of the “Rankin Aeronautical Academy, Inc.,” a flying school at nearby Rankin Field in Tulare.
The academy trained pilots and ground mechanics to help provide personnel for the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II.
Ownership of the airport has changed only a few times, with Wendell Eckert becoming the first civilian owner in the 1950s.
Eric Schutze, who co-owns Eckert Field along with his brother Curtis, said their father bought the airport in 1988 and ran a flight school during the 1990s.
Eckert Field, a small airport facility in the small South Valley town of Strathmore, is for ***** for $1.275 million. The airport is still active and can be used by the public. Six of the 20 hangars are currently leased.
The pilot training program eventually shut down some time after the Sept. 11 attacks in 2001 with more restrictions placed on flight schools to guard against a repeat attack.
“You could still use the airport as a flight school if someone was inclined,” Eric Schutze said.
The property once came with a house, but that was sold off separately in 2019.
As is, Eckert Field comes with a runway that is considered to be in good condition (repaved about six years ago), 20 hangars (six of which are currently leased) and a fuel tank/pump (currently empty), along with 25 acres of land (there is no room to expand the runway, though, since that adjacent land is owned by someone else).
More to Eckert Field listing
The real estate listing also states the ***** may include three tractors, a brush hog, a discer, golf carts, a forklift, a sweeper, roller, sprayers, trailers and a courtesy van that has a combined book value of $30,000.
Jamison admitted some of the structures would need improvement.
Eckert Field, a small airport facility in the small South Valley town of Strathmore, is for ***** for $1.275 million. The airport has ties to World War II.
But she envisions the right buyer either being an airplane hobbyist who’d view the property as a project to renovate as they see fit, someone who’d fix up the hangars and get into the hangar-leasing business, or a business owner who’d like to take advantage of the massive storage space on the property.
“I think it’s a good business opportunity for that right someone,” said Jamison, who is a pilot herself and is originally from Hanford, about 40 miles northwest of Strathmore.
The Schutze brothers, who are both pilots and aircraft owners, expressed a desire for Eckert Field to continue to operate as an airport rather than be bought to transform into farmland.
“The views there are just amazing,” Eric Schutze said. “Got orange trees on the sides. It’s just really nice, having this airport basically with ag land all around.
“There’s history and it’s unique.”

Trump ‘doesn’t care’ what happens to Ukraine, ex-foreign minister says
Trump ‘doesn’t care’ what happens to Ukraine, ex-foreign minister says
Dmytro Kuleba, former Foreign Minister of Ukraine, presents his new book “Ukraine 2030 – Vision of a Nation” in an interview with the ******* Press Agency.
Picture Alliance | Picture Alliance | Getty Images
U.S. President Donald Trump doesn’t appear to be concerned about Ukraine’s post-war future, the country’s former Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba told CNBC amid a rapid escalation of tensions between Kyiv and Washington this week.
“I don’t think he cares. Okay, let me put it even simpler. I believe he doesn’t care. I believe he does not care about any single country in the world except the United States,” he told CNBC’s Steve Sedgwick Thursday.
Kuleba, who led Ukraine’s foreign ministry from 2020 until his resignation in the fall of 2024, said Trump’s only concern was that Ukraine did not turn into a failed state like Afghanistan, and that his Ukraine plan “does not collapse in a way that will expose his weakness to the whole world … because he has zero tolerance to failures.”
“We know him, and this is the issue. So it’s not about telling him how good Ukraine is and how it deserves his support. It doesn’t make sense, because that’s not how he thinks,” Kuleba said. CNBC has contacted the White House for a response to Kuleba’s comments and is awaiting a response.
Kuleba left office in Sept. 2024 amid a major cabinet reshuffle designed to refresh the Ukrainian government and bring new ideas to the *****, at a time when Russian forces started making concerted gains in the east of country.
The former wartime minister’s comments to CNBC come as those territorial advances continue, while Kyiv’s relationship with the U.S., its biggest military backer since the start of the war in 2022, appears to be deteriorating by the day.
Ties have been strained since President Donald Trump’s inauguration in January. The White House leader and senior Republican officials have expressed skepticism that Ukraine can win the conflict, holding it has become a war of attrition.
Tensions between Ukraine and the U.S. came to a head this week, as senior White House officials met their Russian counterparts in Saudi Arabia with the aim of laying the groundwork for peace talks on Ukraine, all the while excluding Kyiv’s officials from participating in discussions.
Relations between Trump and Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy then went from bad to worse on Wednesday as the latter described the U.S. president as “living in a Russian disinformation bubble.”
Trump hit back, describing Ukraine’s wartime leader was a “dictator without elections,” referring to the lack of a national ballot in the embattled country since 2019. Ukraine has suspended elections amid martial law.
Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy gives a press conference in Kyiv on February 19, 2025, in which stated that Russia’s leadership are “liars” after a Russian drone attack that followed talks in Saudi Arabia between Russian and US officials.

Trump astounded Ukraine and its European allies last week when he announced he had spoken to Russian President Vladimir Putin, and that the leaders had agreed to hold peace talks to end the war. Trump said he had then informed Zelenskyy of the situation, making the gesture appear as an afterthought.
Kuleba was cynical about the prospect of peace talks, saying Putin was not interested in a deal.
“[Putin] wants to avoid upsetting Donald Trump. That’s his strategy. He does not want a deal. He does not want a strip of Ukrainian land. He does not want Ukrainian NATO. He wants no Ukraine. He wants Ukraine not to exist. And there should be no illusions about that,” Kuleba said.
“You can already see very different tones and approaches on both sides. And the fact that the United States delegation seems so excited is a bit weird. I think they need to slow down, because they have to understand the side they’re working with,” he said.
Kuleba said the Trump administration had overestimated its ability to influence Putin, claiming that the Russian president had an innate distrust of the West.
“Putin does not trust Trump for [a] very simple reason, because he does not know whether Trump’s promises will hold … and he does not need a temporary solution. He knows that the best guarantee for him [is] that Ukraine will not become a member of NATO, and the non-existence of Ukraine. He is in his conviction that the West [has] always betrayed him … So there are some very, very big hurdles ahead of Trump.”
CNBC has contacted the Kremlin for a response to Kuleba’s comments and is awaiting a response.
U.S. Special Envoy for Ukraine and Russia Keith Kellogg was in Kyiv on Thursday to liaise with Zelenskyy, but doubts linger over the value the meeting. Kellogg was absent from U.S. delegation that went to Riyadh earlier his week.
The Ukrainian president and Kellogg were meant to hold a joint press conference following their meeting but this was cancelled at the U.S.’ request, Ukraine’s presidential office said, according to a Reuters report.
U.S. Special Envoy to Ukraine and Russia Keith Kellogg meets with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, amid Russia’s attack on Ukraine, in Kyiv, Ukraine, February 20, 2025.

Ukraine’s current Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said he had discussed ways to achieve a just and lasting peace with the U.S. envoy.
“I affirmed Ukraine’s willingness to achieve peace through strength and our vision for the necessary steps,” Sybiha said on social media platform X, adding that he had “reiterated that the security of Ukraine and the transatlantic is indivisible.”
Elsewhere on Thursday, White House National Security Adviser Mike Waltz told Ukraine it needed to dial down criticism of the U.S., saying U.S. officials were trying to secure a peace deal acceptable to all sides.
“They need to tone it down and take a hard look and sign that deal,” Waltz told Fox News, referring to a critical minerals deal in which Trump proposed to Ukraine that Kyiv should grant the U.S. 50% ownership of its rare earth minerals as recompense for military aid it has given Ukraine.
Zelenskyy has reportedly ordered his ministers not to sign off on any deal, which Trump had previously claimed would give the U.S. access to $500 billion worth of rare earth minerals, saying the proposal was too focused on U.S. interests and offered Ukraine very little in return.

Neighbours cancelled – again – two years after Amazon lifeline
Neighbours cancelled – again – two years after Amazon lifeline

Jackie Woodburne and Ian Smith have been stalwarts of Ramsay St for decades
Beloved *********** soap drama Neighbours has been cancelled again, two years after it was saved by Amazon MGM Studios.
Without specifying a reason, Amazon confirmed the series will finish at the end of 2025 – 40 years and more than 9,000 episodes after its television debut.
It was first cancelled by Channel 5 in 2022, but revived by Amazon for its streaming platforms just four months after a star-studded farewell episode watched by millions.
The soap – which helped launched the careers of Kylie Minogue, Guy Pearce and Margot Robbie – has long been a huge hit with *********** and *** audiences, and last year received its first Emmy nomination.
A statement on the show’s social media said the soap would be “resting” from December.
“Audiences all around the world have loved and embraced Neighbours for four decades and we are very proud of the huge success over the last two years,” executive producer Jason Herbison wrote.
“We value how much the fans love Neighbours and we believe there are more stories of the residents of Ramsay Street to tell in the future,” Mr Hebrison added, hinting that the producers will again hunt for a new backer.
New episodes will continue to air on Amazon Prime Video and Australia’s Channel Ten four times a week until the end of 2025.
In a statement, Amazon MGM Studios said it was “proud” to have played “a small part” in Neighbours history.
“Forty years is an incredible milestone,” a spokesperson said.
Set and filmed in Melbourne, Neighbours was first broadcast in Australia in 1985 and launched on BBC One a year later.
The show has lately featured more diverse characters and storylines, amid questions over how well it reflected modern Australia. It featured the first same-sex marriage on *********** TV.
It also had its controversies, however. A number of actors recently came forward with racism allegations, prompting production company Fremantle Media to promise a review.
News of the show’s cancellation comes after actor Ian Smith – who plays Ramsay Street stalwart Harold Bishop – last year announced he would leave the show, revealing he has terminal *******.

China unveils underwater computing center that matches 30,000 gaming computers’ power
China unveils underwater computing center that matches 30,000 gaming computers’ power
China has developed a new underwater, cutting-edge intelligent computing center in Hainan Province’s Lingshui. The data capsule with more than 400 high-performance servers was placed on the sea floor.
According to a report, the computing center has enough power to support 7,000 conversations per second with AI assistants powered by DeepSeek.
The center’s computing power is equivalent to 30,000 high-end gaming computers computing simultaneously, and one second can complete the computation volume of ordinary computers for one year.
Capsule connects to client data terminals
Measuring 18 meters long and 3.6 meters in diameter, the capsule connects to client data terminals via a nearby coastal station. It uses seawater as a natural coolant to optimize energy efficiency, saving land, fresh water, and electricity.
Reports also revealed that the stable environment in the deep sea provides enhanced security and stability to the facility.
The center’s computing power of one second can complete the computation volume of ordinary computers for one year.
Intelligent computing centers are critical assets for AI research, training, and applications, offering powerful computational resources that are expected to accelerate AI innovation, Wang Peng, an associate research fellow at the Beijing Academy of Social Sciences, told the Global Times on Tuesday, adding that the new center in Hainan will significantly enhance China’s competitive edge in the global AI landscape.
Data capsule can withstand high pressure
On Tuesday (February 18), the data capsule was connected to an energy-efficient data processing cluster near China’s southernmost Hainan island.
China’s new submarine data capsule can withstand pressure under the sea, and it connects to data terminals via a shore station on nearby land while keeping the hardware away from human activity and providing a stable working environment for electronic devices free of dust and oxygen, reported SCMP.
The installation of the new unit comes as tech rivalry between China and the United States heats up, particularly with DeepSeek grabbing global attention last month with a powerful AI model it says was created at a significantly lower cost than other models, according to the ******** publication.
Multiple ******** cities developing their intelligent computing centers
Reports have revealed that multiple ******** cities are developing their intelligent computing centers to meet the increasing demand for industry automation amid ongoing digital transformations. International Data Corp revealed 219 projects for such centers between 2022 and 2024.
By 2027, China’s intelligent computing capacity will grow at a stunning annual compound rate of 33.9 percent, according to the organization’s forecast. Such centers will likely support AI applications by providing computing, data, and algorithm services based on AI-driven architectures.

Like XDefiant and Hyperscape, Rainbow Six Siege X Ditching the Price Tag Could be a Disastrous Move
Like XDefiant and Hyperscape, Rainbow Six Siege X Ditching the Price Tag Could be a Disastrous Move
In the last couple of weeks, we’ve seen tons of discussions about the recently announced Rainbow Six Siege X, with Ubisoft finally shedding light on some rumors and theories behind the massive overhaul of its most popular tactical shooter to date.
Rainbow Six Siege X isn’t supposed to be a full-fledged sequel but an overhaul. (Image via Ubisoft)
Reports have suggested that Rainbow Six Siege X is likely to change the feel, mechanics, and graphics, and more of Siege, which has excited fans. However, some are already doubtful because there’s a chance that the game could go free-to-play, and Ubisoft doesn’t have a great history when it comes to such titles.
Rainbow Six Siege X doesn’t need to go the F2P route
The French publisher has a dodgy history when it comes to free-to-play games. (Image via Ubisoft)
Let’s be honest here, the last couple of years have been quite rough for Ubisoft, all thanks to a number of high-profile failures like Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora and Star Wars: Outlaws. So, the studio is betting on its most reliable franchise, Rainbow Six Siege, and planning to give a fresh coat of paint to win back the trust of gamers.
Since Ubisoft’s first reveal of Rainbow Six Siege X, we’ve seen a number of reports surfacing online revealing to us what the French publisher is aiming for this update. One of these reports suggests that Rainbow Six Siege X plans to make the game free-to-play with aggressive monetization tactics, new skins, and much more.
One might think that going free-to-play can be a great thing for Rainbow Six Siege X. It’s a proven model that can boost player base, engagement, and revenue through in-game purchases. We’ve already seen a number of franchises, such as Call of Duty and Overwatch, adopt it and achieve success.
Comment byu/NaviGray from discussion inRainbow6
However, this is Ubisoft we’re talking about; the publisher has an absolutely horrible history when it comes to making free-to-play games. Hyperscape was supposed to be Ubisoft’s revolutionary battle royale game but ended up closing its doors in less than two years, while XDefiant was plagued with delays and couldn’t maintain its player base thanks to the aggressive monetization model, cheaters, and whatnot.
Removing the price tag for Rainbow Six Siege X could bring the same issues that are found in all of Ubisoft’s free-to-play games. Seriously, Rainbow Six Siege is already suffering from cheaters, and with more players, it could lead to a greater influx. Not to mention that Ubisoft will monetize everything in the game, even things such as operators.
Free-to-play games are known for their poor matchmaking, pay-to-play aspects, and bombardment of battle passes. If these end up making their way into Siege, it could harm the franchise’s reputation.
Ubisoft must consider these changes for Rainbow Six Siege X
Rainbow Six Siege X can elevate the experience with new features. (Image via Ubisoft)
If Ubisoft really wants Rainbow Six Siege to push the franchise to greater heights, there are a few areas that the French publisher needs to focus on.
One of the biggest issues in Siege right now is the Operator designs. They’re not bad in any sense, but the actual visuals can end up looking plain and blurry. This makes sense as the game was released in 2015, but now that the visual fidelity within video games has stepped up thanks to new consoles, it’s time for Ubisoft to make a move as well.
Although Siege‘s audio design has improved over the years, it’s still not precise and responsive. We’ve seen modern games such as Dead Space and ****** Ops 6 taking audio design to the next level, and considering how important it can be to Siege‘s gameplay, it needs a major overhaul with the Siege X.
Another thing Ubisoft can focus on is environmental destructibility. It’s a highlight feature for Siege, but why not take it even further? Recently, gamers have felt like Ubisoft has been struggling when it comes to operators who can use walls and windows during the match, so adding new options can help the company develop creative character ideas.
With that said, do you think Rainbow Six Siege X should go free-to-play? Let us know in the comments below.

Who are the Zizians? What we know about vegan ‘cult’ linked to six killings
Who are the Zizians? What we know about vegan ‘cult’ linked to six killings
Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office
Jack Lasota pictured in a California mugshot dating from 2019
A cult-like US group known as Zizians has been linked to a string of murders, sparking several arrests – who are the people behind this group and what do they believe?
Jack Lasota, 34, who allegedly leads a group of a few dozen followers known as Zizians, was arrested on Sunday alongside Michelle Zajko, 32, and Daniel Blank, 26, on charges including trespassing and obstruction.
Authorities say they are investigating at least six killings across the US that are allegedly connected to members of the group, including a double ********* in Pennsylvania, a knife attack in California, and the shooting of a US border guard in January.
Four other alleged members of the group have already been charged with *******.
The origins of the group
Lasota, a transgender woman, is allegedly the leader of the group.
She earned a degree in computer science from the University of Alaska-Fairbanks in 2013 and, according to her blog, moved to the San Francisco area three years later.
There, she wrote that she applied for a series of jobs at tech companies and startups – including a brief internship with Nasa – and began to associate with people involved in the rationalist movement, an intellectual trend popular in Silicon Valley that emphasises the power of the human mind to see clear truth, eliminate bias and bad thinking, and improve individuals and society.
Lasota began blogging using the alias “Ziz”, but soon fell out with mainstream rationalists as her writings spun off in bizarre directions.
The blog included posts of thousands of words, blending Lasota’s personal experiences, theories about technology and philosophy, and esoteric comments about pop culture, computer coding and dozens of other subjects.
At one point, during a long diatribe about the TV series The Office, artificial intelligence and other subjects, she wrote: “I realized that I was no longer able to stand people. Not even rationalists anymore. And I would live the rest of my life completely alone, hiding my reaction to anyone it was useful to interact with. I had given up my ability to see beauty so I could see evil.”
Other themes included veganism – total avoidance of any animal food or products – and anarchism.
In 2019 Lasota and three others were arrested while holding a protest outside an event held by a rationalist organisation. The last posts on her blog date from around this time.
False obituary
Over the next few years, Lasota and others would move around the US, according to reports, at one point living on a boat, and later staying on property owned by others in California and North Carolina.
In 2022, a warrant was issued when Lasota failed to show up for a court hearing, related to the protest outside the rationalist organisation meeting. But her lawyer at the time stated she was “now deceased after a boating accident in the San Francisco Bay area”.
An obituary – noting that Lasota loved “adventure, friends and family, music, blueberries, biking, computer games and animals” – even appeared in an Alaska newspaper.
But the story was wrong: Lasota was still alive.
Jessica Taylor, an artificial intelligence researcher who says she knew several of the group members, told the Associated Press that Lasota and the Zizians stretched their rationalist beliefs to justify breaking laws.
“Stuff like thinking it’s reasonable to avoid paying rent and defend oneself from being evicted,” Taylor said.
Poulomi Saha, an associate professor at the University of California, Berkeley, who studies cults, says that while there is no strict legal definition of such a group, several of the Zizians’ attributes align with the popular cultural conception of the term.
“This is a group of individuals that seem to share some unorthodox viewpoints,” she said. “That in and of itself wouldn’t open up them up to the cult label… but then there is this leadership figure ‘Ziz.'”
Saha noted, however, that there is still significant uncertainty about the relationships between group members and about what may have motivated alleged acts of violence in recent years.
Escalating violence
Not long after the obituary was published, Lasota resurfaced along with other members of the group in Vallejo, California, which is north of San Francisco. Several members were living in vans and trucks on land owned by a man named Curtis Lind.
At some point the Zizians allegedly stopped paying rent, and Lind sued to evict them.
But the dispute escalated and in November 2022, Lind was attacked, stabbed 50 times and blinded in one eye. In an act of what police would later say is self-defence, he fired a gun, which killed Emma Borhanian, a former Google employee who was one of the Zizians and who had previously been arrested at the rationalist protest.
Two other members, Suri Dao and Somni Logencia, were arrested and charged with attempting to ******* Lind. They remain in prison awaiting trial. Lasota was also at the scene of the attack, but was not charged with a crime.
Lind Family/GoFundMe
Curtis Lind pictured after he was allegedly attacked by Zizians
The following month, two parents of a Zizian member were killed in a small Pennsylvania town.
Richard Zajko, 71, and his wife, Rita, 69, were found shot in the head in their home.
The Zajkos were the parents of Zizian member Michelle Zajko, who was briefly held by police but not charged with a crime.
Lasota was arrested and charged with obstructing law enforcement and disorderly conduct in connection with the incident.
The hunt continues
Despite the links to those two attacks, the group mostly flew under the radar without receiving much wider public attention until earlier this year.
On 17 January, Lind, the California landlord who had allegedly been attacked by members of the group, was killed.
Vallejo Police Department say he was stabbed to death by an assailant wearing a mask and ****** beanie.
Police later charged Maximilian Snyder with *******, and alleged that Snyder killed Lind in order to stop him from testifying during the attempted ******* trial.
That was followed just a few days later by the killing of a US border patrol agent on the other side of the country.
Two Zizians, Teresa Youngblut and Felix Bauckholt, were pulled over by US Border Patrol Agent David Maland near the ********* border in Vermont.
A firefight ensured. Bauckholt, a ******* citizen who also went by the name Ophelia, was killed in the shootout along with Maland.
Youngblut – who was previously known as Milo – was wounded and later arrested on firearms charges.
The shooting led to a wider hunt for members of the group after police said the gun used to kill Maland was bought by Michelle Zajko.

Fugitives captured
After the Vermont shootout, police in Pennsylvania said they had uncovered new evidence about the shooting of Zajko’s parents, and Lasota was wanted for failing to appear at several court hearings.
The whereabouts of the pair were unknown until Sunday, when they were arrested with fellow group member Daniel Blank in Maryland.
A police report said a resident of Frostburg, about 160 miles (260km) north-west of Washington DC, had called police saying he wanted three “suspicious” people off his property after they asked to camp on his land for a month.
Maryland State Police said that the trio were charged with trespassing and obstruction, and that Lasota and Zajko were additionally charged with weapons violations. All three were denied bail.
A lawyer for Lasota, Daniel McGarrigle, declined to comment on the arrest but instead sent the BBC a statement he had previously issued about his client, saying: “I urge members of the press and the public to refrain from speculation and premature conclusions.”
