  3. James Carville Makes Bold Prediction About Elon Musk And Democrats James Carville Makes Bold Prediction About Elon Musk And Democrats Longtime Democratic strategist James Carville predicted Monday that Democrats will receive a boost in direct response to Elon Musk’s gutting of government through the nonofficial Department of Government Efficiency. Billionaire Musk will “be the greatest generator, let me say this very specifically, the greatest generator of Democratic turnout ever, more than Barack Obama,” Carville told NewsNation’s Chris Cuomo. “Musk will turn out more Democrats than Obama could, and I understand the gravity of that statement, but if he keeps going, that’s what’s going to happen,” he added. Cuomo asked why. Carville replied: “Well, I was privy to some data that in a very critical state, and the Musk stuff is like nothing I’ve ever seen in the history of polling. Like, nothing. And we’re a month into the game.” Carville didn’t expand on the data. But recent polls have indicated that Americans are souring on the world’s richest man over his attempts to slash government spending and jobs. Earlier, Carville doubled down on his call for Democrats to hold tight and “play possum” to allow the effect of the Trump-implemented chaos to fully take hold among the electorate. 4. Trump threatens 25% tariffs on EU, says bloc formed ‘to ******’ U.S. Trump threatens 25% tariffs on EU, says bloc formed ‘to ******’ U.S. US President Donald Trump holds a cabinet meeting at the White House in Washington, DC, on February 26, 2025. Jim Watson | Afp | Getty Images U.S. President Donald Trump threatened to impose 25% tariffs on imports from the European Union, claiming that the economic and political bloc was formed “to ******” the U.S. On Wednesday, during the first Cabinet meeting of his second term in office, Trump said that duties against Canada and Mexico would take effect on April 2 and that his trade measures will include a 25% tariff on goods from the EU. “We’ll be announcing it very soon,” he told reporters. “It’ll be [a] 25% [tariff] generally speaking, and that will be on cars and all other things.” He added, “They’ve really taken advantage of us … They don’t accept our cars, they don’t accept, essentially, our farm products. They use all sorts of reasons why not. And we accept everything of them.” The president has made it a priority to tackle what he sees as unfair trade relationships with a number of the U.S.’ closest neighbors and trading partners, citing the U.S.’ persistent trade deficits — in which it imports more goods and services than it exports — as evidence of this. Trump claimed, without citing evidence, that the EU had been formed to undermine the U.S. “I love the countries of Europe. I guess I’m from there at some point, a long time ago, right? … But [the] European Union was formed in order to ****** the United States … that’s the purpose of it, and they’ve done a good job of it. But now I’m president,” he said. The EU was established after the 1993 enforcement of the Maastricht Treaty, building on post-war sentiment of European unity and cites establishing an internal market and achieving sustainable development among its aims. European Commission data show that the EU had a trade surplus of 155.8 billion euros ($159.6 billion) with the U.S. for goods in 2023, but ran a 104-billion-euros deficit on services. Machinery and vehicles make up the largest chunk of EU exports to the U.S. by product group, followed by chemicals, other manufactured goods and medicinal and pharmaceutical products. Tariffs on EU imports would likely translate into higher prices for U.S. consumers, with economists already warning of the potentially inflationary impact of import duties. Europe rattled again European markets are heading for a sharply lower open and Trump’s tariffs threat have rattled the EU, which has previously threatened to respond to the measures in a “proportionate way.” The European Commission, the EU’s executive arm, responded to Trump’s comments by pledging to “react firmly and immediately against unjustified barriers to free and fair trade, including when tariffs are used to challenge legal and non-discriminatory policies.” Reacting to Trump’s claims about the EU’s origin, the Commission noted that the EU had benefitted the U.S. Chad Ehlers | Getty Images “The European Union is the world’s largest free market. And it has been a boon for the United States. By creating a large and integrated single market, the EU has facilitated trade, reduced costs for U.S. exporters, and harmonized standards and regulations across 27 countries. As a result, U.S. investments in Europe are highly profitable,” the Commission said. The EU urged the U.S. to work with it “to preserve these opportunities for our people and businesses. Not against each other.” The tariffs prospect is not new, with Trump having already threatened the EU and U.K. with levies. The White House leader had nevertheless previously signaled that a deal could be worked out with Britain, which has a much more balanced trading relationship with the U.S. Source link #Trump #threatens #tariffs #bloc #formed #****** #U.S Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content] For verified travel tips and real support, visit: [Hidden Content]

Mexico says U.S. has not responded to request to return accused drug lord Mexico says U.S. has not responded to request to return accused drug lord MEXICO CITY (Reuters) -******** Attorney General Alejandro Gertz said Tuesday that the U.S. government has not yet responded to Mexico’s request to extradite accused senior drug lord Ismael “El Mayo” Zambada back to Mexico, after he was flown to the U.S. and arrested there last year. Gertz noted that late last year the U.S. government confirmed it had received the ******** government’s extradition request for Zambada, the co-founder of the powerful Sinaloa Cartel along with jailed kingpin Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman. Zambada was taken into custody last July in the United States at a New Mexico airfield near El Paso, Texas, along with one of Guzman’s sons, Joaquin Guzman Lopez, in what was then hailed as a major coup for U.S. law enforcement. 8. New Spider-Man Combo Turns The Thing Into a Ballistic Missile New Spider-Man Combo Turns The Thing Into a Ballistic Missile The Thing’s introduction in Marvel Rivals has been a blessing for vanguard players due to his ability to take aggressive angles. He can jump to the frontlines and fight up close, absorbing a lot of damage for the team. The Thing is the latest addition to Marvel Rival’s roaster. Image Credit: NetEase On top of that, he is also a great ally to have on your side due to his ability to shield allies. Similarly, players have already started to come up with more creative combos including one with Spider-Man. The Thing can wreak havoc when combined with Spider-Man’s mobility Spider-Man x The Thing is a lethal combo. Image Credit: NetEase Spider-Man is a backline assassin whose main task is infiltrating the enemy’s backline and constantly annoying them with his presence at the back. His main targets are duelists and strategists since he simply does not have enough attack damage to take on a vanguard on his own. His ultimate shoots webs in an encircled area stunning and damaging nearby enemies. He is extremely mobile and can swing across the entire map in seconds. This helps him to go in and out of complex battles. On the other hand, The Thing is the stark opposite, he is a frontline soldier that can take heavy damage and also cause a lot of damage and stun his enemies. His Embattled Leap ability allows him to jump toward an ally and apply damage reduction to both. His ultimate Clobberin’ Time creates a massive shockwave stunning enemies before plunging them into the air. A mix of Spidey’s athleticism and The Thing’s endurance makes a pretty great team. A creative combo has emerged between the two that allows Spider-Man to plunge forward towards an enemy while The Thing uses his Embattled Leap ability to apply damage reduction which is then further paired with both of their ultimates. This lethal combo, if executed correctly leaves little to no chance for the enemy to survive. Marvel Rivals gives players enough freedom to explore various combos Marvel Rivals gives players space to explore unique combos. Image Credit: NetEase Marvel Rivals has established fair ground providing players with the freedom to explore unique ways to approach the game. The game does have unique team-up abilities that get activated with the right members, but there are also a lot of other combos that players have been trying in the game. Overwatch 2 has been facing a lot of pressure due to Marvel Rivals. This Spider-Man and The Thing combo is the biggest example of it. There is no team-up ability between the two but they still can work together in a great way while complementing each other’s abilities. Marvel Rivals is shaping up to be a great game with a lot of potential and lots to explore. With more new characters coming to the game in the upcoming updates, the scope of it will only increase. 9. Should ransomware payments be ********? Should ransomware payments be ********? Ransomware has been becoming an increasingly common problem in recent years for organizations, regardless of size, sector or location. Indeed, Netwrix’s 2024 Hybrid Security Trends Report revealed that malware attacks like ransomware are one the three most common types of security incidents that organizations experienced in the last year. According to the Information Commissioner’s Office report, in 2023 organizations in Britain reported more data breaches due to ransomware attacks than ever before. In response to this threat, proposals to make ransomware payments ******** have been gaining traction. For example, earlier this year, Ciaran Martin, ex-CEO of the *** National Cyber Security Centre, called for a ransomware payment ban. The reasoning is that if ransomware payments were ********, organizations would stop making them, so malicious actors would no longer have an incentive to carry out ransomware attacks. But is this approach really a viable solution to the scourge of ransomware? Ilia Sotnikov Social Links Navigation Security Strategist & VP of User Experience at Netwrix. The moral imperative in some ransomware situations Ransomware is clearly different from cases of physical extortion like kidnapping and hostage situations. But a ransomware attack can still pose a serious danger to human lives. Notably, an attack on critical national infrastructure (CNI), such as hospitals and other healthcare facilities, can put patients’ lives at risk. In June 2024, Synnovis, a blood test provider for major London hospitals, fell victim to a ransomware attack that resulted in cancellation or postponing over 1600 operations and outpatient appointments. In such cases, it’s much harder to say that paying the ransom should be prohibited by law. Moreover, cybercriminals quickly adapt to changing circumstances. If legal limitations are put into effect, threat actors will likely find ways to overcome them quite swiftly. Ultimately, banning ransom payments could push business leaders into further moral conundrums while under pressure. The possibility of reduced reporting of ransomware incidents In July the *** Government announced their intention to introduce mandatory reporting of all ransomware incidents as a part of the Cyber Security and Resilience Bill. Thus, the Government prioritized transparency of the ransomware incidents over an attempt to completely ban them. Indeed, a well-executed ransomware attack can potentially hinder the victim’s business operations to the point of near bankruptcy. Under the proposed new regulations, decision-makers would be expected to report the incident and not pay the ransom. But would they take that path, given that their livelihood, and the livelihood of many others within the organization, hang in the balance? Or might some organizations choose to pay the ransom without informing government agencies of the attack? We have to remember that the latter option is a viable choice, and it has ramifications beyond the organization that makes it. Not reporting the incident reduces visibility in cybercriminals’ activity, which in turn affects the ability of law enforcement and software vendors to take appropriate steps in response. Without all the information, addressing the challenge of ransomware will become much more difficult. The banking industry experience — a better way forward? Various risks are inherent in the nature of the banking industry, and the sector has developed ways to mitigate them. For example, years ago, the main threat was a physical bank robbery, so banks reduced cash handling and installed security cameras, alarm systems and, finally, time-lock safes. Adopting the right security measures is still essential for banks to keep their licenses today. Following this example, governments could create cybersecurity benchmarks and make risk mitigation strategies the norm for other high-risk industries like energy, manufacturing and healthcare. With standards in place, organizations would have appropriate guidance for establishing an efficient strategy against the threat of ransomware. Additionally, law enforcement worldwide has a crucial role to play when it comes to collaborating to take down ransomware networks. The recent dismantling of the ransomware gang LockBit performed by the National Crime Agency, FBI, and international partners from nine other countries proves the effectiveness of such collaboration. Government institutions from all over the world released a cybersecurity advisory that summarized LockBit’s tools and tactics. That work resulted in the group’s attack assets being seized, which has made it difficult for them to operate. Looking ahead: how to combat the threat of ransomware Ransomware continues to cause significant damage to organizations worldwide, and it is natural for governments to consider legislation that could help reduce the threat. However, denying victim companies the option of paying a ransom to restore their data and operations is not a practical solution. Instead, organizations must prioritize improving their cybersecurity measures, while government departments should increase their vigilance, assistance and investigations. 11. How India’s emerging as a formidable player in defense How India’s emerging as a formidable player in defense The U.S.’ F-16 fighter jet performs during Aero India 2025, a military aviation exhibition at the Yelahanka Air Force Station in Bengaluru on Feb. 13, 2025. Idrees Mohammed | Afp | Getty Images This report is from this week’s CNBC’s “Inside India” newsletter which brings you timely, insightful news and market commentary on the emerging powerhouse and the big businesses behind its meteoric rise. Like what you see? You can subscribe here. The big story India is already the world’s top weapons importer but that’s not stopping the country from strengthening its defense capabilities. New Delhi plans to spend about $200 billion over the next 10 years on transforming and modernizing its military. This raises an important question: Why is India in a hurry to double down on weaponry and fighter jets? You would think it’s Pakistan, the country’s neighbor and longtime rival. However, foreign policy analysts say the trigger is to the east of India — specifically, China. Heightened geopolitical tensions, skirmishes at the India-China border and Beijing’s elevated presence in the Indian Ocean have contributed to India’s quest to beef up its defense. India and China are also locked in a technology rivalry that experts say has contributed to growing tensions between the two rising Asian nations. “China’s expansionist policies and military buildup along the border remain a serious challenge,” Pravin Krishna, professor of international economics at Johns Hopkins University, told CNBC. Beijing’s elevated presence around the subcontinent’s waters is the most pressing concern. “China has made the point that the Indian Ocean is not India’s ocean,” Pramit Pal Chaudhuri, Eurasia Group’s South Asia practice head, told CNBC on the phone. Chaudhari added that according to Indian navy intelligence, China is building aircraft carriers, two of which will be deployed in the Indian Ocean. Beijing also has a full naval base in Djibouti, a country on the east of the African continent, where it conducts navy drills from. Renewed U.S.-India relations Against this backdrop, India Prime Minister Narendra Modi met U.S. President Donald Trump at the White House two weeks ago where the two leaders confirmed efforts to strengthen U.S.-India defense ties. Modi also signed India up to buy more U.S. defense equipment, including additional heavy armored vehicles, drones and fighter jets. “It is extraordinary that, less than one month into the new Trump Administration, the United States and India could announce such a broad set of actions in the defense sector,” former U.S. Ambassador to India Kenneth I. Juster told CNBC in an email. Procuring U.S. defense equipment is also one way New Delhi can lower the growing U.S.-India trade deficit, seen as key to maintaining good relations with Trump. Boeing has captured the largest portion of U.S. foreign military sales to India since 2017, according to estimates by Cowen Washington Research Group, a research arm at the investment bank TD Cowen. Trump also offered India access to Lockheed Martin’s state-of-the-art supersonic Lockheed Martin F-35 fighter jets. India is not technically eligible for the F-35s given that the country is not a formal military ally of the U.S. and is currently a buyer of Russian equipment. If Trump does make an exception, analysts say that would be a big win for India, though others are hard-pressed to see this happen. According to Reuters, India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri told reporters earlier this month that the U.S. offer to sell F-35s was at a “proposal stage”, adding that the acquisition process had not started. “We believe there will be some challenges completing the ***** given India’s use of Russian military systems,” Roman Schweizer, aerospace and defense policy analyst at Cowen Washington Research Group, told CNBC over email. Playing catch-up with China Irrespective of the outcome of the F-35 deal, India’s defense spending is expected to remain robust. Overall, JPMorgan estimates India’s capital expenditures on defense will grow by 8 percent every year from 2024 to 2026. “Growth in India’s defense capex is driven by its own geopolitical and security considerations,” Atul Tiwari, infrastructure, industrials and utilities analyst at JPMorgan, wrote to clients in a note on Monday. However, experts argue that India still has a long way to go in playing catch-up with its main rival, China. By official numbers, China’s military and defense budget is currently three times the size of India’s and growing at a fast rate, according to Eurasia. Capacity limitations in the U.S. could also complicate India’s plans to double down on U.S. defense equipment. “Limited investment in manufacturing … means the U.S. defense industrial base faces capacity constraints and extended delivery timelines. This comes at a time when India must compete with European demand for U.S. weaponry, as well as America’s own needs to counter China,” Tara Hariharan, head of macro research at NWI Management, a New York-based emerging markets-focused hedge fund, told CNBC. Drive toward self-sufficiency Hariharan added that over time, pressure will grow on India to become more self-sufficient because it’s already facing internal tensions between a desire to buy U.S. arms and the government’s “Make in India” policies that prioritize domestic production. Hindustan Aeronautics, Bharat Electronics and Zen Technologies have emerged as three of the biggest players in India’s growing defense sector, according to a JPMorgan note. India has become increasingly aware of what’s best to buy from foreign nations, and which equipment should be manufactured at home. In 2023, General Electric signed a partnership to co-manufacture jet engines with India’s Hindustan Aeronautics. The deal, which received U.S. congressional approval, involved the transfer of technology to India. Sources close to the Indian government shared that technology transfer was a topic discussed between Modi and Trump during the Indian leader’s recent trip. “If India can find other ways to obtain technology transfer and co-produce equipment inside the country … delivery times will be accelerated,” said the source who asked not to be named because they weren’t authorized to speak on the matter. Krishna at Johns Hopkins University added that over time, India’s desire is to move away from its dependence on foreign arms and invest heavily in indigenous capabilities. India’s ambition to expand its defense capabilities and protect its populous nation from new threats could make it a more attractive partner for American and Russian companies — a dance between competing world powers that India will have to balance elegantly. Need to know The European Union wants India to lower its tariffs. As part of discussions on the India-EU free trade agreement, the bloc wants Delhi to reduce its “very high tariffs” on goods such as wines, spirits and cars, a senior EU official said. However, the EU has notably said that tariffs need not be “one for one” as different countries experience gulfs in their developmental levels, and face unique challenges in their economies. Ursula von der Leyen, president of the EU, will be in India on Feb. 27 to 28 and meet the country’s prime minister Narendra Modi. Negotiations on the India-U.K. free trade agreement are progressing well. There are only a few outstanding issues remaining before the FTA could be finalized, U.K. Business and Trade Secretary Jonathan Reynolds told CNBC-TV18 exclusively. However, Reynolds stopped short of offering a concrete timeline for the deal, which he said would be a comprehensive agreement covering not just goods and services, but also lower barriers for businesses to operate in both countries. India’s courting of Tesla may not be smooth-sailing. Tesla has reportedly been scouting showroom locations in India to start selling vehicles in the country, following a meeting between India Prime Minster Narendra Modi and Tesla CEO Elon Musk earlier in February. However, the EV company has yet to announce any plans to establish factories in India despite Modi’s push, such as his introduction of a new EV tariff policy. DeepSeek is causing an outflow from Indian equities. The ******** artificial intelligence company’s cost-efficient model has lifted sentiment in the ******** market, with a gauge of the country’s onshore as well as offshore shares soaring over 26% since its January low. The money has to come from somewhere — most of the time, it’s diverted from its emerging markets competitor India. The subcontinent’s slowing economy is also contributing to the sharp correction of its stock market in recent months. What happened in the markets? Indian stocks continued to be in negative territory this week. As of 12:30 p.m. local time on Feb. 27, the benchmark Nifty 50 index edged down 0.09,% while the broader Sensex index was flat. The benchmark 10-year Indian government bond yield ticked up slightly to 6.701%. Stock Chart IconStock chart icon On CNBC TV this week, Aditya Suresh, head of India equity research at Macquarie Capital, said that India-dedicated funds are trading more defensively, focusing on the information technology sector, and select pharmaceutical companies and financials, which have “valuation support.” On the other hand, there are risks in the consumer discretionary space and the industrial segment because of elevated earnings expectations. Meanwhile, after the release of DeepSeek, the focus in the artificial intelligence space has shifted to software offerings, according to Kunal Vora, BNP Paribas’ director and head of India equity research. “Indian companies can play a very important role there,” Vora said, particularly because the Indian rupee is depreciating, which would make IT services cheaper for overseas buyers. 12. Nvidia’s ‘Better-Than-Expected’ Report Fails to Impress – A Telling Sign for Bulls Nvidia’s ‘Better-Than-Expected’ Report Fails to Impress – A Telling Sign for Bulls Nvidia (NASDAQ:) shook things up by revenue of $39.3 billion for the quarter while guiding next quarter to $43 billion. This was slightly below the pattern’s prediction for the current quarter’s revenue but slightly above for the guidance. Meanwhile, next quarter’s gross margins are expected to be 71%, falling short of estimates of 72.2%. This report had something for both bulls and bears, but I don’t think there’s enough surprise to make a real impact. Nothing here is unexpected or significantly outside the predictable range. Additionally, implied volatility, pricing at 155% heading into the results, will dramatically drop today. Investors betting on significant gains will have calls to unload as premiums decay. So it won’t be surprising at all to see the stock trade down today. This stock has been dead money since June 2023, and when stocks post “better than expected” results and can’t rally, it tells you that all the good news has been priced in. The will likely rally today as the closed around 20. This means there will be a volatility reset when the market opens today, potentially pushing the S&P 500 index higher—at least initially. In the meantime, rates continued to fall yesterday, with the dropping to around 4.25%. Rates have fallen sharply since the report mid-month. Weak and some weak consumer data are making investors feel like a significant growth slowdown is coming. It is not clear to me that is the case at this point, but I think that by the time we get to the end of next week, we could have a better view of things. The next significant level of support appears to be around 4.18%. Meanwhile, the appears to be in a falling wedge, which suggests that the next big move for the dollar could be higher. The has also been supported around 106.50, favoring the rising dollar. At this point, I do not have much to say. I think the next week or so will clarify a lot. Porsche Unveiled a Clever Piece of Engineering That Reinvents Turbocharging Porsche Unveiled a Clever Piece of Engineering That Reinvents Turbocharging “Hearst Magazines and Yahoo may earn commission or revenue on some items through these links.” The Porsche 911 has changed quite a lot over the years, yet in all its iterations, it’s always followed the same philosophy: rear-wheel drive with the engine at the back. That could be why many Porsche purists had mixed reactions when the ******* automaker announced its latest hybrid-powered 992.2 Carrera GTS. Spoiler alert: it’s not the same performance-hybrid system you’ve likely seen in other sportscars. Turbocharging has long been one of the most common power adders for performance vehicles; it’s a great way to increase power without significantly tanking fuel efficiency. Turbos have changed dramatically since their introduction to production vehicles in 1962, but Porsche’s T-Hybrid system in its latest 911 GTS really is a true game changer. Here’s why. Why Go Hybrid? Porsche purists will likely ask why the brand opted to go hybrid at all. And they’re not wrong for wondering. The previous 911 GTS was no slouch, with over 450 horsepower, motivating it to reach 60 mph in just 3.1 seconds—in the Carrera 4 GTS with PDK. Instead, Porsche went hybrid because of environmental restrictions, as the previous internal combustion engine had reached its maximum potential. Euro 7 emissions restrictions, which go into effect on July 1, require engines to run a perfectly balanced air-fuel ratio all the time—sometimes referred to as lambda 1. Running within these parameters limits the emission of hydrocarbons, as it’s the most efficient combustion process without the excess fuel from a rich mixture or excess air from a lean mixture. While this is great for efficiency, making the same amount of horsepower while maintaining lambda 1 is significantly more challenging. Porsche and many other performance automakers would normally be able to enrich the fuel mixture at full throttle to suppress detonation—sometimes called “knock” or “pre-ignition” in turbocharged engines. Detonation is bad, as it’s an uncontrolled explosion inside the engine that can cause severe damage, including melted spark plug electrodes, cracked piston rings, and even melted/cracked pistons, among other things. Without the ability to adjust the air-fuel ratio, retarding the ignition timing (making the spark happen earlier) is one of the only remaining ways to control detonation. This leads to a considerable loss in horsepower, meaning the previous engine was maxed out in its current configuration. That’s why Porsche sought to use a hybrid system to counteract the losses from the new regulations. It’s just not the hybrid system you’re probably used to seeing. What Is T-Hybrid? Courtesy Porsche As the name suggests, Porsche’s T-Hybrid system assists the turbocharger with an electric motor instead of using an electric motor to drive the wheels, as we’ve seen previously. The new single-turbo setup replaces the old twin-turbo setup, assisted by a 27-hp electric motor mounted within the turbo. The electric turbo brings plenty of advantages besides merely recouping the power lost from emissions restrictions. First and foremost, we can’t overlook the fact that T-Hybrid effectively eliminates turbo lag. Dyno charts compare the power curves of the two engines, and it’s clear that the new motor is much more muscular; it’s able to produce its quoted 450 lb-ft of torque almost instantly at 2,000 RPM, while you’d have to wait a couple seconds for the conventional 3.0-liter twin turbochargers to spool up. Courtesy Porsche T-Hybrid also brings considerable weight savings over traditional hybrid systems. It probably doesn’t come as a surprise that it takes much less power to assist a turbocharger than to motivate the wheels of a car. The entire system is powered by a 1.9-kW lithium-ion battery mounted near the front of the car, which at 60 lbs isn’t much heavier than the 12V lithium-ion battery that powers the rest of the vehicle’s electronics when the engine is off. For context, Porsche says the complete package adds only 103 lbs to the curb weight compared to its predecessor. Porsche’s T-Hybrid system is fitted to a larger 3.6-liter flat-six engine instead of the previous 3.0-liter twin-turbo flat-six. With a strong diet and clever engineering, Porsche was able to make the new engine 40 lbs lighter (not to mention smaller) than its predecessor despite having significantly ******* displacement. The new intake manifold was repackaged to carve out the roughly 4 inches of vertical space needed for the new hybrid components; along with adding power, the new electric motor is able to replace many traditionally belt-driven engine accessories like the alternator. If you’ll allow us to be amazed for a second, the electrically assisted turbocharger doesn’t need a conventional wastegate either. Traditionally, these divert excess exhaust gasses away from the turbocharger to stop it from spinning too quickly and causing damage. As the turbo nears its 125,000 rpm redline, the electric motor inside acts as a generator to limit its speed—producing up to 15 hp. Porsche says this juice is then used to assist the engine at high revs (from 5,700 to redline), where the flat-six is outside of its optimal powerband. What Does the Future Look Like? Leave it to Porsche’s army of big foreheads in engineering to completely transform what hybrids mean to car enthusiasts. They’ve reaped the benefits of traditional performance hybrids—augmenting internal combustion power by driving the wheels—without adding significantly more weight. However, that’s not without adding significant cost. It’s no surprise that the new and improved GTS would punch a ******* hole in your wallet. The mid-level 911 now starts at $166,895—$14,000 over its predecessor. That’s not an insignificant amount of money, but we have to understand that technology doesn’t come for free. We’ve yet to drive the new 911 ourselves, but our friends at Car and Driver have proved that there’s a considerable return on investment. For context, the new GTS has reportedly lapped the Nurburgring Nordschleife 8.7 seconds faster than the outgoing 992.1 GTS. Spoiler alert: that’s fast. Really fast. Separate 18-wheeler crashes cause lane closures and backups across I-10 in South MS Separate 18-wheeler crashes cause lane closures and backups across I-10 in South MS Two separate 18-wheeler crashes on Interstate 10 Tuesday afternoon closed lanes and snarled traffic during rush hour commutes, authorities said. Authorities first rushed to clear an 18-wheeler that crashed before 3 p.m. Tuesday in the eastbound lanes near mile marker 23, between Exit 20 and Exit 24 at Menge Avenue. The right lane in that area was closed at 3 p.m. Mississippi Highway Patrol Trooper Landon Orozco said authorities were still working to pull the 18-wheeler from the mud around 5 p.m. A Mississippi Department of Transportation camera shows backups at 5 p.m. Tuesday on Interstate 10 at the Pascagoula River Bridge. The truck was hauling lumber and the driver was not injured, Orozco said. Another ****** between an 18-wheeler and car on the westbound Pascagoula River Bridge injured two people later Tuesday afternoon. The injuries were not life-threatening, Orozco said. 20. Retail Sector Remains Fragile – Should You Sell Rallies? Retail Sector Remains Fragile – Should You Sell Rallies? While Tuesday I wrote about the strength of junk bonds in the face of risk-off ratios ( v. , ), today, I am still quite concerned about Granny or the consumer sector. Investors have hopes that Nvidia’s (NASDAQ:) can help the market survive. But let us look deeper into how Nvidia reflects (or not) the consumer. Are consumers upgrading computers? Are they buying AI assistance? Considering all the fears of higher food, auto and service prices, we still maintain it is not only what folks buy, but how much they buy that will impact the economy and the market most. Plus, tariffs are surely spooking consumers as well. This Friday (for 24 hours), there is a call for a nationwide economic blackout. While the nationwide economic blackout applies to all discretionary spending, the organizers are targeting specific retailers. This includes: Amazon (NASDAQ:) Walmart (NYSE:) Best Buy (NYSE:) But participants are also asked to refrain from spending money on fast food or gas. “If we disrupt the economy for just ONE day, it sends a powerful message.” One could say it is the direct opposite of ****** Friday. One day in the US concerning companies might not mean that much as global shoppers are not involved. Best Buy has stores in Mexico and Canada. Tariffs will have an impact. However, if this is the start of a trend, ******* issues will pop up. Ultimately, the chart of XRT tells the story. The daily chart confirms the Distribution phase. The bounce from the big sell-off last Friday has been unimpressive. On the weekly chart (not shown) the 200-week moving average sits at 74.00. However, the slope is negative After that, the next big support is at the 23-month moving average at 71.50. So, while there is support on the way down, the ******* picture is that momentum has continued to grow more bearish and the underperformance to the SPY is notable. Can Nvidia save the consumer? 21. Labor accuses Coalition of ‘reckless political games’ while under attack for ‘shambolic’ response to China Labor accuses Coalition of ‘reckless political games’ while under attack for ‘shambolic’ response to China Labor on Thursday accused the Coalition of “reckless political games” while coming under fire for its “shambolic” response to China’s naval taskforce patrol in a fiery spat over national security ahead of the election. Alarm over live-fire exercises by a ******** flotilla in the Tasman Sea last week and its possible ongoing circumnavigation of Australia was matched by a partisan war of words in the Senate and over the air waves as both parties cast blame about mishandling the situation. Opposition Leader Peter Dutton lashed Prime Minister Anthony Albanese for being “completely out of his depth”, charging that he was “either making up” his version of events or “shooting from the hip” after conflicting accounts about when the ******** fleet gave notice of its live-fire drill. “I’ve never seen a prime minister floundering like this . . . on the issue of national security, the first charge of the Prime Minister is to keep our country safe and to make sure that we have in place the settings which protect us against any acts of aggression,” Mr Dutton said on 2GB. Deputy Prime Minister Richard Marles denied Mr Albanese had misled the public and revealed *********** ships had been shadowing the ******** task group, even though the military drill was first detected and reported by a Virgin Australia pilot. The naval task group has now moved from its position on Thursday morning 500km west of Hobart and entered the Great *********** Bight off the southern coast of Australia. Mr Marles conceded that it could be circumnavigating Australia. In heated exchanges in Senate estimates with Liberal Senator James Paterson, Foreign Minister Penny Wong accused the Coalition of “trying to turn China into an election issue” and “beating the drums of war.” In an opening statement on the growing strategic challenges faced by Australia in an unpredictable world, she turned on the Opposition — which has accused China of “gunboat diplomacy” — for politicising the situation. “What Australians don’t want in the face of these circumstances is reckless political games from people who claim to be leaders,” she said. The “same people who left a massive vacuum in the Pacific, the same people who had no regard for the consequences for *********** exporters or for ******** *********** communities are at it again, trying to turn China into an election issue,” she said. “We have been very clear that China is going to keep being China, just as Mr Dutton is going to isn’t going to stop being Mr Dutton, the man who once said it was inconceivable we wouldn’t go to war, is going to keep beating the drums of war,” she said. Camera IconDeputy Prime Minister Richard Marles. Credit: Mick Tsikas/AAP Mr Paterson fired back, chiding the Foreign Minister for her “partisan” opening statement, and describing the Government’s actions as “shambolic”. He demanded an apology from the Prime Minister. “The Prime Minister must be honest with the *********** people,” he said. “The least he can do to them is be honest about the activities of the ******** Navy in our region — he should not mislead them.” As the political temperature rose, Mr Marles issued an appeal for calm. The Government has repeatedly stressed that the ******** navy is acting within international law, in a similar way to *********** vessels that sail in waters close to China. “It’s really important that we take a deep breath here. Our touchstone has to be international law,” said Mr Marles. ******** state media has also taken note of Australia’s political stoush. “Excessive reactions to China’s normal far-sea drills expose double standards,” said a headline this week in the Global Times, widely considered a mouthpiece of the ******** ********** Party. “China’s normal activities on the high seas seem to have triggered sensitive nerves in some, plunging them into a collective state of ‘security anxiety’,” it said. 22. Celebrate Spring With Ancient Greek Tradition of Martis Bracelets Celebrate Spring With Ancient Greek Tradition of Martis Bracelets Greeks celebrate spring with traditional Martis bracelets. Credit: Greek Reporter Spring is (almost) in the air in Greece, and Greeks will soon begin preparations to welcome the new season by celebrating an ancient annual custom. The Greek tradition of “Martis” entails that everyone, regardless of age, adorns themselves with red and white bracelets made from thread from March 1st until the last day of the month on March 31st. The ancient tradition of Martis, from which the month of March derives its name, dates back to the cults of Demeter and Persephone, which began thousands of years ago in ancient Greece. Eleusis was the ancient city where the ancients performed secret rites for the cult. Credit: Greek Reporter As a form of initiation into the cult, which was one of the Eleusinian Mysteries, the faithful wore a bracelet called a “kroki” around both their right hand and left ankle. Amazingly, the ancient tradition still lives on today in modern Greece. However, there are certain rules that one must abide by when creating and wearing the symbolic bracelet that celebrates the arrival of Spring. Most importantly, the bracelet must be woven on the last day of February and it must be made of white and red thread. The white thread of the bracelet symbolizes purity while the red represents life and passion. Greek tradition says to tie a Martis bracelet to a flowering tree In ancient times, people believed that the bracelet helped protect the person who was wearing it from diseases, as well as the strong rays of the spring sun during the month of March. Part of the ancient Greek tradition calls for the person wearing their red and white “Martis” bracelet to take it off and tie it to the first flowering tree they see in March in order to yield a healthy harvest and to keep the tree healthy. Another lovely tradition Greeks practice with Martis bracelets occurs when the first ******** of the spring is sighted. The first person who sees a ******** upon the bird’s return from its winter migration ties their bracelet around the nearest rose bush to encourage the bird to build its nest there. If you are interested in wearing a Greek Martis bracelet to welcome the spring (and who wouldn’t be), the Greek-themed stores Etsy, and EFI Store offer a wide selection of the bracelets at affordable prices. Take some time this spring and peruse the authentic, hand-crafted Greek bracelets there, as well as an array of other authentic Greek products that can be shipped worldwide. 23. ‘People in my position have an opportunity to make a change’ ‘People in my position have an opportunity to make a change’ A Rhode Island elementary school has embraced stainless steel lunch trays, eliminating lunch waste by as much as 90% and making students happier in the process. As reported by the Washington Post, Brown Avenue Elementary is a mere three miles from the state’s only landfill. Using plastic foam trays in the cafeteria only added to the nearby pile, as the material is difficult to recycle and can take 500 years to break down. Eating foods served on plastic foam can also come with an unhealthy helping of *******-linked chemicals. Unfortunately, because the material is cheap and doesn’t require significant kitchen labor, it is a popular choice in school cafeterias, according to pediatrician Manasa Mantravadi, who founded the stainless steel dinnerware brand Ahimsa. Despite the short-term inconvenience, with only one permanent kitchen staff member, Brown Avenue invested time and money into stainless steel lunch trays and utensils. A grant from the Rhode Island Education Department paid the cost of the trays for a little more than $1,000, while staff member Nancy Carlton estimates she is only on the clock an extra 15 minutes each day. All in all, the school estimates it will save $3,500 every year. Early indications are everyone is thrilled with the move and its long-term perks. “It helps the landfill and it’s better for the environment,” fifth-grader Mia Amaral told the Post. “And the old trays used to fall apart, they would bend or break.” Watch now: How bad is a gas stove for your home’s indoor air quality? Fifth-grader Lucas Halton added that the plastic foam trays “used to fly,” suggesting that the slightly heavier stainless steel trays were no trouble to handle. After students finish their meals, they return the reusable trays and utensils to cafeteria staff with the help of student volunteers, who are also tackling food waste through composting. According to Feeding America, the United States throws out the equivalent of 145 billion meals annually. When that waste rots in landfills, it produces methane, a potent gas contributing to an overheating planet — and associated intensified extreme weather threatening our food supply. However, composting can lessen these effects, as well as provide free, nutrient-rich fertilizer. Kelly DeAngelis, a facilitator with the Rhode Island School Recycling Project, told the Post other schools in the district are eyeing Brown Avenue’s successful program and are now interested in implementing similar programs. Importantly, the state’s plastic foam ban, which took effect Jan. 1, has helped with both enforcement and funding. “People in my position have an opportunity to make a change. And if somebody is willing to put their necks forward to make that change, others will follow,” Brown Avenue principal Helina Dlugon, who grew up recycling and composting, told the Post. 24. Buffett Remains on the Sidelines as Cash Piles Continue to Build Buffett Remains on the Sidelines as Cash Piles Continue to Build Warren Buffett and Berkshire Hathaway (NYSE:) always make headlines in February when the firm holds its annual meeting. Among the many takeaways is what the company has been buying and selling and how invested it is in the market. A critical detail from the 2025 meeting is that Berkshire Hathaway’s cash pile hit a record high, suggesting the Oracle of Omaha and his investment Colossus are on the sidelines. The cash pile didn’t just grow; Berkshire Hathaway’s cash pile ballooned by nearly 70%, rising by $134 billion to over $330 billion, more significant than the market cap of 94% of the SPDR S&P 500 (NYSE:). The cash build is due to massive sales in top names like Bank of America (NYSE:), Apple (NASDAQ:), American Express (NYSE:), and The Coca-Cola Company (NYSE:, suggesting they are overvalued and at risk of a significant correction. Holdings in BAC and AAPL were cut the hardest, trimmed by 25% and roughly 65%, respectively, but large portions of all positions were liquidated. Conversely, Mr. Buffet’s buying was not significant, falling short of $6 billion, suggesting there wasn’t much interesting other than Occidental Petroleum (NYSE:). Berkshire’s holdings in that stock increased by double-digits during 2024, and additional buys were made in 2025. The Risk Is the FOMC, Inflation, and Donald Trump The risk for the stock market is the impact of Donald Trump’s policies on an already-strained economic situation. His policies are expected to sustain higher-than-wanted inflation due to tariffs and increased domestic demand, likely keeping the FOMC from lowering interest rates. The question is if inflation will hold steady at its current pace or accelerate as it did in the second half of 2024. If inflation continues to accelerate, the FOMC must raise interest rates to combat inflation, which could easily tip the economy into a recession. Trump’s policies also include mass layoffs. The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) is cutting government jobs by the thousands and will impact the labor market generally. That is bad news for employment data and the consumer outlook, but it may have a silver lining. Reducing government jobs may offset Trump’s inflationary pressure enough to keep it from accelerating consumer-level inflation so that rate hikes come back onto the table. As it is, the CME FedWatch Tool indicates a 92% chance for one 25-basis point rate hike by year’s end and about 70% chance for two. Broadening Economic Activity and Earnings Growth Are the Opportunity The opportunity for investors is that the United States will avoid recession, and Trump’s policies will not significantly accelerate inflation. The U.S. economy will remain strong, and corporate earnings will grow in this scenario, a bullish environment for stocks compounded by the expectation of broadening activity. Easing regulatory and tax hurdles are expected to bolster economic activity across sectors, leading to a broader rally in stocks, another good reason for Mr. Buffett to raise cash. In that light, Berkshire’s sales in 2024 were precautionary but also preparatory, raising capital for deployment into new investments. So, the is set up to fall but is not likely to fall far because the outlook for economic and earnings growth is dimming but still positive. A price correction in early 2025 may only fall as much as 5.5% from the all-time high, finding support at the January low, but there is a risk of a deeper correction because the forecasts could continue to decline. The critical support zone is 5,725 to 5,780; if broken, this market could retreat to 5,400 or deeper before hitting solid support. Catalysts for the market include tariff relief, easing inflation, and lower interest rates, but they are not likely to emerge until later in 2025. The S&P 500 could remain in a holding pattern until then, trending sideways within the established range.
