Is Killing Floor 3 Coming To Xbox Game Pass?
Is Killing Floor 3 Coming To Xbox Game Pass?
Tripwire Interactive’s Killing Floor 3 is another bout of beautiful violence. Eviscerating Zeds and leaving them for dead is the name of the game—well, Killing Floor 3 is. If it’s your first time or you’re a returning fan, here’s the Xbox Game Pass status for the FPS title.
Killing Floor 3 is already testing the waters well ahead of time. The closed beta lets players see what’s new, what works, and what needs fine-tuning. The second installment was fun but had a penchant for repetition, and the third mainline release is looking to be the best yet.
Eventually, Killing Floor 3 will launch, and if it’s on Xbox Game Pass, this is a victory before we even play the game.
Can You Play Killing Floor 3 on Xbox Game Pass?
Sir, this is a Wendy’s. Credit to Tripwire Interactive
Xbox Game Pass is not adding Killing Floor 3 to its collection of easily accessible games.
You get access to hundreds of games if you’re a Microsoft Xbox Game Pass subscriber. Many of these arrive as day-one debuts on the Game Pass scheme. However, Killing Floor 3 is not a day-one addition as Tripwire Interactive and Microsoft don’t have an agreement for it to happen.
There’s no mention of Killing Floor 3 coming to Game Pass on its official store page. Nor has the opportunity been mentioned in any trailers, prerelease material, or press releases.
Titles associated with Xbox Game Studios are pretty much day-one Game Pass releases. Any other third-party titles are not guaranteed and it’s up to the two companies to come to an understanding. If not, the game launches of its own accord and it’s up to the publisher to drive sales. In this case, Tripwire Interactive is handling both development and publishing duties, so it’s up to them to generate interest and revenue for KF3.
Will Killing Floor 3 Come to Xbox Game Pass?
It’s uncertain if Killing Floor 3 is coming to Xbox Game Pass at any point.
The closest KF has come to Xbox’s Game Pass subscription service was in 2024 when Killing Floor 2 was offered as a “Free Play Days” promotion. Game Pass users were allowed to sample Killing Floor 2 for a few days. After this, the title went back to being another purchasable option on the Xbox store.
We’ll update this guide if Killing Floor 3 does come to Xbox Game Pass.
Killing Floor 3 looks to be as brutal and painful as its predecessors. Can you envisage yourself losing hundreds of hours lopping off limbs and severing skulls? Or is Killing Floor 3 not your stop?
We have the latest details on several other AAA games and their potential Xbox Game Pass status for you to check out: Atomfall, WWE 2K25, Assassin’s Creed Shadows, Balatro, PGA Tour 2K25, Monster Hunter Wilds, and Split Fiction.

Thailand deports dozens of Uyghurs to China
Thailand deports dozens of Uyghurs to China
At least 40 Uyghurs have been deported to China, the Thai authorities have confirmed, despite warnings from rights groups that they face possible torture and even death.
The group is thought to have been flown back to China’s Xinjiang region on Thursday, after being held for 10 years in a Bangkok detention centre.
China has been accused of committing crimes against humanity and possibly genocide against the Uyghur population and other mostly ******* ethnic groups in the north-western region of Xinjiang. Beijing denies all of the allegations.
It is the first time Thailand has deported Uyghurs since 2015.
The deportation has been shrouded in secrecy after serious concerns were raised by the United States and United Nations.
Thai media reported that several trucks, some with windows blocked with sheets of ****** plastic, left Bangkok’s main immigration detention centre in the early hours of Thursday morning.
Hours later, tracker Flightrader24 showed an unscheduled China Southern Airlines flight leaving Bangkok, eventually arriving in Xinjiang. It was not immediately clear how many people had been deported.
The Thai defence minister told Reuters news agency that Beijing had given assurances the deportees would be looked after.
Beijing said that 40 ******** ******** immigrants were repatriated from Thailand, but refused to confirm that the group were Uyghurs.
“The repatriation was carried out in accordance with the laws of China and Thailand, international law and international practice,” the foreign ministry said.
******** state media said the group had been “bewitched” by criminal organisations and were stranded in Thailand after illegally leaving the country.
Thailand’s Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra did not initially confirm any deportations had taken place when asked by reporters.
“In any country in the world actions must adhere to the principles of law, international processes, and human rights,” she said.
The group is thought to be the last of more than 300 Uyghurs who were detained at the Thai border in 2014 after fleeing repression in Xinjiang.
Many were sent to Turkey, which usually offers Uyghurs asylum, while others were deported back to China in 2015 – prompting a storm of protest from governments and human rights groups.
“What is the Thai government doing?” asked opposition lawmaker Kannavee Suebsang on social media on Thursday.
“There must not be Uyghur deportation to face persecution. They were jailed for 11 years. We violated their human rights for too long.”
The detention centre where the Uyghurs – who had been charged with no crime, apart from entering Thailand without a visa – were kept was known to be unsanitary and overcrowded. Five Uyghurs died in custody.
In a statement on Thursday, Human Rights Watch said the group now face a high risk of torture, enforced disappearance and long-term imprisonment.
“Thailand’s transfer of Uyghur detainees to China constitutes a blatant violation of Thailand’s obligations under domestic and international laws,” said the organisation’s Asia director, Elaine Pearson.
“Until yesterday [Wednesday], senior Thai officials had made multiple public assurances that these men would not be transferred, including to allies and UN officials.”
Phil Robertson, director of the Asia Human Rights and Labour Advocates (AHRLA) group, said that the deportations “totally destroyed” the “charade” that the current Thai government was different to the previous one “when it comes to transnational repression and cooperating with authoritarian neighbours”.
Amnesty International described the deportations as “unimaginably cruel”.
Bipartisan members of the US House China Committee on Wednesday issued a statement warning that the deportations “would constitute a clear violation of international human rights norms to which the Kingdom of Thailand is obligated under international law”.
The UN said that it “deeply regrets” the deportations.
There are about 12 million Uyghurs, mostly *******, living in Xinjiang, which is officially known as the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region (XUAR).
The Uyghurs speak their own language, which is similar to Turkish, and see themselves as culturally and ethnically close to Central Asian nations. They make up less than half of the Xinjiang population.
Recent decades have seen a mass migration of Han ******** (China’s ethnic majority) into Xinjiang, allegedly orchestrated by the state to dilute the ********* population there.
China has also been accused of targeting ******* religious figures and banning religious practices in the region, as well as destroying mosques and tombs.

Nasdaq Bulls Stand Firm – But a Slip Below This Level May Spark Selling Pressure
Nasdaq Bulls Stand Firm – But a Slip Below This Level May Spark Selling Pressure
US equity futures edged higher, tracking a firmer tone in Asia Pacific markets overnight, with Europe trading mixed shortly after the open. The tech sector, and consequently, will remain in focus following Nvidia’s (NASDAQ:) , with its share up around 1% in pre-market after delivering results on Wednesday that were solid but not spectacular.
Investors, accustomed to blockbuster results, have so far responded with a rather muted reaction. Nvidia’s performance today will be key and could set the tone for the next few sessions in the sector. The technology sector and specifically chipmakers will remain at the center of market volatility, with recent losses keeping investors on edge amid concerns about valuations and the latest US crackdown on China’s technological progress.
The focus is now turning to the US release later today and data on Friday. Before we discuss those macro events and more, let’s have a quick look at the Nasdaq’s chart first.
Nasdaq Technical Analysis and Key Levels to Watch
Following the recent drop, the Nasdaq has worked off its short-term overbought conditions further, as it continues to trade inside a range it has been stuck inside since December.
The loss of bullish momentum has so far not caused any major breakdowns of key support levels to scare away the bulls just yet. They continue to buy the dips, but their inability to create a new all-time high so far this year may be a sign of concern, requiring a correction of some sort to make the tech sector appealing again.
One key support area to watch on the is around 20980-21000, which roughly corresponds with a major high from July 2024. This area has been tested on several occasions in recent weeks and so far, the bulls have prevailed. In light of the recent struggles in the tech sector, though, you would feel that a potential breach of this 20980-21000 area on a closing basis could see the onset of a potentially sharp correction, which could send the index tumbling to around its long-term 200-day moving average.
However, if the abovementioned support continues to hold – as it may have been the case following this week’s retreat – then the bulls wouldn’t be too worried. A couple of short-term broken support levels need to be reclaimed though before the index starts looking bullish again, starting with 21400/20 area, which is now the bears’ first line of defence. Above this, the 21-day exponential average comes into focus at around 21650, then the next target is at 21950, the low from last Thursday and base of the recent breakdown.
Nvidia’s Earnings Fail to Excite
The lukewarm reception to Nvidia’s outlook comes at a precarious moment for the AI industry. Recent developments, such as ******** startup DeepSeek’s demonstration that chatbots can be developed at a fraction of the expected cost, have sparked concerns that the demand for Nvidia’s high-powered chips could diminish.
Whether Nvidia’s results will be enough to assuage fears about the shifting dynamics in the AI sector remains to be seen. However, judging by the tepid response in its share price, one might be forgiven for harboring doubts.
Watch NVDA closely if you trade the Nasdaq. Today’s performance for this hugely important stock could have major implications for the main US indices.
Tariffs: A Tale of Confusion
Donald Trump’s contradictory statements on Wednesday regarding the implementation of tariffs left investors scratching their heads. One area of confusion is about European levies, which could either target all exports from the bloc or focus on specific sectors. Another one is regarding the USA’s closest neighbors. The Trump administration appears poised to impose tariffs on Mexico and Canada, though it’s unclear whether these will come into effect as early as March.
So, the tariff situation is, frankly, a bit of a muddle. On one hand, we have bold statements from Trump; on the other, ongoing negotiations leave room for delays or extensions. Investors are still trying to decipher what’s actually at play. So far, it’s been more noise than substance. For that reason, investors have largely shrugged off trade war concerns and have bought stocks on the dips.
Key Macro Data This Week: GDP and Core PCE
With Nvidia’s earnings now out of the way, attention shifts back to tariffs and the ongoing Ukraine peace talks. On the macroeconomic front, today brings US GDP data and , alongside further speeches from Federal Reserve officials. Come Friday, the focus will turn to the Fed’s preferred inflation measure—the core PCE price index—alongside a smattering of second-tier data releases.

England cricket: ‘Brendon McCullum’s problems go far beyond Jos Buttler’s future’
England cricket: ‘Brendon McCullum’s problems go far beyond Jos Buttler’s future’
England’s focus now switches to the challenge McCullum faces.
When taking on the white-ball role, he said his coaches would step up to lead when he needed time away, but evidence suggests this team cannot afford a half-in leader.
England’s next one-day internationals are against West Indies in May – sandwiched between a Test against Zimbabwe and the India series – before they play South Africa in September, by which time the Ashes will loom large.
The idea of England failing to qualify for the 2027 World Cup may seem extreme but only the top eight in the rankings – nine if South Africa are one of those – are guaranteed their spots. England are currently seventh with Afghanistan having closed in and Bangladesh and West Indies lurking below.
Continuing to take their white-ball side for granted could mean a qualification tournament alongside the likes of Nepal and Oman.
Buttler, Root, Wood and co are also the last generation of England cricketers who grew up on 50 (or 40)-over cricket. Given the lack of it played in England, the search for the next generation will continue to be educated guesswork.
And if Buttler is replaced, any supporter hoping it will bring in a change of approach is likely to be disappointed.
Three men have captained this side in the past year when Buttler has been injured – Harry Brook, Liam Livingstone and Phil Salt, who are all disciples of the attacking approach.
Having ascended to be Buttler’s vice-captain in January after leading in his absence in five matches against Australia, Brook is the obvious next move.
During that 3-2 defeat by Australia, Brook said he wanted the team to play like McCullum’s Bazballing Test side and was also criticised for his “who cares” if you are caught on the boundary or in the in-field comment at Trent Bridge.
That was a misstep but he did well to recover in a promising first stint as captain, which included his only one-day international century to date.
Responsibility may be what Brook, a former England Under-19 captain, needs to turn his undeniable white-ball talents into match-winning performances because the current status quo is helping neither him nor the team.
Ten innings, 169 runs and an average of 16.90 in matches this year may not feel like the form of a captain-elect, but he remains the best option.
Brook’s ascension would bring issues in that he would not always be available because of his key role in the Test team. But it would also give England another option if Stokes’ body was to fail him down under, in addition to Ollie Pope who could be out of the XI by the time they reach Perth.
And there I go, relegating the white-ball team to a second-tier status. England got to the top of the white-ball world by prioritising it under Eoin Morgan, only to collapse when the Test side retook the focus when McCullum was first appointed.
It will take longer than one flight for Key to find a way to navigate English cricket’s longstanding problem.

While Every Major Developer Aims to Avoid GTA 6, Valve Might Just Shadow Drop Half-Life 3 Close to It Out of Spite
While Every Major Developer Aims to Avoid GTA 6, Valve Might Just Shadow Drop Half-Life 3 Close to It Out of Spite
In the high-stakes poker game that is the gaming industry, Rockstar Games has just pushed all their chips to the center of the table with GTA 6. The move is so intimidating that other publishers are scrambling to fold their hands, desperately trying to avoid a Fall 2025 release window that could see their titles crushed under the weight of gaming’s biggest juggernaut.
When everyone folds, Gordon Freeman raises the stakes. | Image Credit: Valve
But there’s one player at the table who’s never followed the rules. Valve, the powerhouse that revolutionized gaming itself twice over, has been quietly assembling what might be the only hand capable of calling Rockstar’s bluff: Half-Life 3.
After nearly two decades of silence, whispers, and false starts, the evidence is mounting that Gordon Freeman’s return isn’t just possible—it might be imminent. And in a move that would perfectly encapsulate Valve’s chaotic energy, they might just be crazy enough to launch it alongside the very game everyone else is running from.
Why Valve might drop Half-Life 3 when everyone else fears GTA 6
While most developers are treating Rockstar’s Fall 2025 window like a contagious disease, Valve appears to be in the final stages of preparing gaming’s white whale for release. Recent discoveries in Deadlock‘s code have set the internet ablaze with speculation that would have seemed like pure fantasy just months ago:
This seemingly innocuous code snippet represents something monumental. “HLX” is widely believed to be Half-Life 3‘s internal codename, and the FSR3 reference is particularly telling.
AMD’s upscaling technology is typically implemented during a game’s final optimization phase—not something you’d see in early development.
Comment byu/Stannis_Loyalist from discussion inHalfLife
What makes this discovery even more credible is the detailed explanation from the Redditor who found it:
Comment byu/Stannis_Loyalist from discussion inHalfLife
The timing couldn’t be more perfect—or more chaotic. While publishers are reportedly “determined to keep their own games far, far away” from GTA 6 according to Bloomberg, Valve might be preparing to do the exact opposite.
Comment byu/Stannis_Loyalist from discussion inHalfLife
After all, this wouldn’t be out of character for a company that has always marched to the beat of its own drum. While Take-Two and Rockstar meticulously plan their marketing cycles, Valve has a history of surprise announcements and releases. Remember when they dropped Half-Life: Alyx with minimal warning? This is a company that thrives on defying expectations.
The long road to gaming’s most anticipated sequel
The right G-Man in the wrong place makes all the difference. | Image Credit: Valve
The journey to Half-Life 3 has been longer than some of its potential players have been alive. Since Half-Life 2: Episode Two left us on that devastating cliffhanger in 2007, fans have endured a rollercoaster of emotions, clinging to every hint and rumor like lifelines.
Comment byu/Stannis_Loyalist from discussion inHalfLife
This year started with a particularly tantalizing breadcrumb. On January 2nd, Mike Shapiro, the voice of the mysterious G-Man, posted a cryptic tweet in character, complete with the hashtags #Valve, #Halflife, and most tellingly, #2025. He mentioned “unexpected surprises” for the coming year—a tease that immediately sent the community into overdrive.
The evidence has only mounted since then. Tyler McVicker, a credible and respected Valve dataminer, recently uncovered code in a Dota 2 update suggesting Half-Life 3 survived Valve’s notoriously brutal post-holiday project culling. Not only that, but the code revealed advanced AI systems, upgraded physics, and significant improvements to NPC behavior.
What’s particularly fascinating is how Valve has managed to keep this project under wraps while apparently making substantial progress. While Rockstar has been relatively open about GTA 6‘s development (by their standards), Valve has maintained radio silence—letting the occasional datamine do the talking instead.
The question isn’t just whether Half-Life 3 will finally emerge from the shadows this year, but whether Valve would be bold enough—or perhaps spiteful enough—to position it near GTA 6. In a year that’s already shaping up to be historic for gaming, such a move would be the ultimate power play.
What do you think? Would Valve really be crazy enough to release Half-Life 3 in the same window as GTA 6? Or is this all just another false alarm in the long history of Half-Life 3 speculation? Share your thoughts in the comments below!

Tony Burke hosts Labor MP’s at Perth Convention Centre citizenship ceremony
Tony Burke hosts Labor MP’s at Perth Convention Centre citizenship ceremony
Home Affairs Minister Tony Burke has invited WA Labor MPs fighting to win key battleground seats to a citizenship ceremony at the Perth Convention Centre.
Mr Burke has been under fire this week over claims he has hijacked the events to gain Labor votes, as polls point to a hung parliament at the upcoming Federal election.
*********** Electoral Commission officials were waiting outside the auditorium at the Convention Centre on Thursday as Mr Burke led the official ceremony for crowds of new West Australians on Thursday.
Another ceremony in Perth is set to take place on Friday, The *********** reports.
Labor’s MP for Hasluck Tania Lawrence and Labor MP Sam Lim — who is fighting for the seat of Tangey — were in attendance and spoke to the crowd.
Ms Lawrence reportedly told the crowd of new citizens about the boundaries of her electorate while Mr Lim spoke of his journey from Malaysia to Australia.
Liberal MP Ian Goodenough was also reportedly a guest of honour on Thursday.
Another citizenship ceremony will be held in Melbourne on Saturday before moving to Queensland, Brisbane and Toowomba.
A crowd of about 4500 people were made new citizens at Sydney’s Olympic park last Friday. A total of 6000 Sydneysiders were made new citizens over the weekend.
Mr Burke previously rebuked Coalition suggestions he had “rushed through” 12,500 citizenship applications ahead of the election for political gains.
Opposition Leader Peter Dutton last week said Mr Burke had “departed from what would be a normal practice”.
“He’s just pushing thousands of people through citizenship ceremonies without any explanation that mayors are obviously up in arms about it,” he said on morning TV.
“And it’s right on the eve of the election.
“So obviously trying to put people into marginal seats.”
Mr Burke rejected the assertion and denied he was “fast-tracking” citizenship ceremonies for political gain.
“I (have) no idea which way these individuals are going to vote,” he said.
He said there had been a “huge backlog”, and different councils were “not having enough ceremonies”.
Mr Burke also said he thought the Australia Day ceremonies “might do a lot to clear the backlog, (but) turns out they didn’t”.
“I can’t hold ceremonies while Parliament is on. So Parliament is now finished so I’m holding ceremonies.”

New Buc-ee’s locations coming to Florida: Here’s what we know
New Buc-ee’s locations coming to Florida: Here’s what we know
The Brief
The first Buc-ee’s in Florida opened in February 2021.
There are currently two Buc-ee’s locations in Florida: one in St. Augustine and the second in Daytona Beach.
Several more Buc-ee’s locations are already in the works for the Sunshine State, including spots in St. Lucie County, Ocala and Leon County.
FLORIDA – One of the most beloved gas station convenience store chains has plans to expand its reach across Florida.
As the love for Buc-ee’s continues to grow in the Sunshine State, several more locations are already in the works, including spots in St. Lucie County, Ocala and Leon County.
Here’s everything we know about the new Bucee’s locations planned for Florida.
Where will the new Buc-ee’s locations be?
What we know
There are three planned Buc-ee’s locations in the pipeline for Florida.
Ocala
The first new Buc-ee’s location planned to open is in Ocala.
For more than a year, Floridians were made to think that the Sunshine State would be home to the world’s largest Buc-ee’s.
Unfortunately, that isn’t the case anymore, according to a statement from a Buc-ee’s executive who clarified the size of the planned store.
The planned store will be 74,000 square feet — the largest is in Luling, Texas, and is 75,593 square feet — and will feature 120 fueling stations and 750 parking spots.
The new Buc-ee’s will be located at the soon-to-be-constructed Interstate 75 and NW 49th Street Interchange.
LULING, TEXAS – JUNE 12: The Buc-ee’s convenience store is seen on June 12, 2024 in Luling, Texas. The Texas-based convenience store and gas stop, Buc-ee’s has become the world’s largest convenience store with over 100 gas pumps and a 75,000 square feet store. The newly opened location in Luling is nearly 30 times larger than average convenience stores, and hosts thousands of food and beverage options. (Photo by Brandon Bell/Getty Images)
St. Lucie County
Buc-ee’s officially submitted a site plan to St. Lucie County in February 2024. The official filing calls for a proposed location at the southeast corner of Indrio Road and Interstate 95 in Fort Pierce.
The Texas-based gas station chain then submitted a final site plan application in January 2025.
This location’s plans feature 120 gas pumps, 76,000 square feet of retail space, more than 700 parking spaces and18 electric vehicle charging spaces.
The final site plan is scheduled for review in February before construction can begin.
Leon County
The Leon County Buc-ee’s is being planned near the state’s capital city.
A permit was filed to build the new location on Feb. 5. The location is proposed for the west side of Capital Circle NW, near Interstate 10.
The permit claims the location will be 75,000 square feet and will boast 120 fueling positions.
When will the new Buc-ee’s locations open?
What we don’t know
It remains unclear at this time when the Ocala Buc-ee’s will open.
However, Gov. Ron DeSantis and local officials held a groundbreaking ceremony on Tuesday for the new auxiliary lanes along I-75 and the 49th Street Interchange, which is where the home of the first Buc-ee’s in Marion County will be.
There has been no announced groundbreaking or opening date for the St. Lucie County Buc-ee’s.
The Leon County Buc-ee’s is still in the early stages, with permits for the location filed only earlier this month.
How many Buc-ee’s locations does Florida currently have?
The backstory
The first Buc-ee’s in Florida opened in February 2021.
The St. Augustine location at 200 World Commerce Parkway was the first.
The Daytona Beach location at 2330 Gateway North Drive opened only a month later.
Both locations feature 104 fueling stations and more than 50,000 square feet of shopping space.
Why is Buc-ee’s such a big deal?
Why you should care
The first Bucee’s location opened in 1982 in Lake Jackson, Texas. It was located at 899 Oyster Creek Drive, on the border of Clute and Lake Jackson.
The store was opened by Arch “Beaver” Aplin III, who inherited his family’s entrepreneurial spirit.
The first Buc-ee’s travel center opened in 2003 in Luling, Texas.
Today, there are 50 Buc-ee’s locations in the world.
Although the majority of them are housed in Texas, the organization has expanded to maintain stores in multiple states, including Alabama, Colorado, Georgia, Kentucky, Missouri, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee.
The gas station is known for its thousands of snacks, meal and drink options for travelers, including Texas barbecue, homemade fudge, kolaches and its famous Beaver nuggets.
It’s also known to have some of the cleanest restrooms in America – and being a gas station with thousands of people passing through each day – that’s no easy feat to accomplish.

Hackman and Arakawa, 64, were found at their home in Santa Fe on Wednesday, alongside their dog.
“An active and ongoing investigation” into their deaths, the sheriff’s office said.
Deputies were called at about 1:45 p.m. Wednesday to an address on Old Sunset Trail in Hyde Park, “where Gene Hackman, 95, and his wife Betsy Arakawa, 64 and a dog were found deceased,” the county sheriff’s public information officer, Denise Womack Avila, said in a statement.
“Foul play is not suspected as a factor in those deaths at this time however exact cause of death has not been determined,” the statement added.
The sheriff’s office told a reporter from NBC affiliate KOB of Albuquerque that the alarm was raised after a neighbor called police to carry out a ******** check.
The bodies of Hackman and Arakawa were not formally identified until 12:30 a.m. Thursday (2:30 a.m. ET).
Hackman had been airlifted to hospital after he was hit by a car while riding a bike in the Florida Keys in 2012, but escaped with minor injuries.
He won his first Oscar for his portrayal of detective Jimmy “Popeye” Doyle in William Friedkin’s “The French Connection,” and later riveted audiences in Francis Ford Coppola’s paranoid thriller “The Conversation.” Later, he would play the villainous Lex Luther in “Superman.”
He won two Academy Awards, four Golden Globes, one Screen Actors Guild Award and two British Academy Film Awards (BAFTAs).
He also landed Oscar nominations for his roles in “Bonnie & Clyde,” the character study “I Never Sang for My Father” and the divisive thriller “Mississippi Burning.”
He left Hollywood in 2004, making his final film appearance in the largely forgotten Ray Romano vehicle “Welcome to Mooseport.”

Evidence mounts that RX 9070 XT GPU could equal Nvidia RTX 4080’s performance – I just hope AMD doesn’t mess up pricing
Evidence mounts that RX 9070 XT GPU could equal Nvidia RTX 4080’s performance – I just hope AMD doesn’t mess up pricing
A purported benchmark has emerged for AMD’s RX 9070 XT
It suggests that the incoming RDNA 4 GPU could match the RTX 4080
This is another in a line of leaks indicating that this is the case
Another hint has been dropped that AMD’s Radeon RX 9070 XT graphics card is going to be more powerful than rumors previously indicated, and that it could be the equal of the RTX 4080.
Wccftech reports that a Gigabyte (Gaming OC) RX 9070 XT was highlighted in a benchmark by a user on the Anandtech forums (Gaav87). This was a FurMark score of 20,732 points (345 frames per second) in the OpenGL graphics stress test at 1080p resolution.
Now, take that with more than the usual skepticism reserved for any such purported leaks, but if correct, this score would mean that, as mentioned, the 9070 XT could offer a performance level similar to the RTX 4080 (actually, it’ll edge out the Nvidia GPU a smidge).
However, extra care is needed here because the benchmark was run on Linux, and those comparisons are drawn with the RTX 4080 on Windows, so that’s not an apples-to-apples affair.
That said, there’s another recent leak of the 9070 XT courtesy of FurMark which showed the GPU reaching roughly the same kind of performance (equivalent to the RX 7900 XTX, very much in the RTX 4080 ballpark, in other words). In that case, the graphics card wasn’t named, but it was easy enough to piece together the clues of what GPU it was.
On top of this, another piece of spillage – this time purportedly direct from AMD – also suggests that the 9070 XT is going to pitch in at around this same level, allowing it to be competitive against the RTX 5070 Ti, in theory.
This fresh leak brings with it some extra info, too, pertaining to thermals, with the 9070 XT seemingly coping very well considering that FurMark is a stress test, meaning it challenges the GPU with a very demanding workload that pushes the chip hard.
Sign up for breaking news, reviews, opinion, top tech deals, and more.
The 9070 XT apparently contains its heat levels to 55 degrees Celsius during this tough workout, which is commendably cool.
(Image credit: Shutterstock / DC Studio)
Analysis: Looking strong, albeit with hints of ‘hopium’ on the pricing front
The upshot is that the RX 9070 XT is looking very promising here, both in terms of raw performance and its ability to stay cool under pressure. It’s worth noting that the Gaming OC graphics card featured in this latest leak is a mid-tier model from Gigabyte, so this isn’t its best cooling solution in action (though it’s not an entry-level one either, that’s WindForce).
These are exciting revelations, albeit coming with caveats, and the fact that FurMark is definitely not 3DMark (and moreover, synthetic benchmarks only go so far in estimating the performance of a GPU). Still, it’s a more telling metric than Geekbench graphics tests, and speaking of those, it handily dispels notions recently presented via Geekbench that RDNA 4 won’t be all that much to shout about, frame rate-wise.
Finally, it’s worth bearing in mind that last month, a rumor was aired by YouTuber Moore’s Law is Dead that during development, AMD was targeting the RX 9070 XT to be just a touch faster than Nvidia’s RTX 4080 Founders Edition – which is the assertion we see in all these leaks.
It feels to me that there’s more than a grain of truth here, with all these rumors aligning, but as ever, let’s not get carried away with speculation, even if it does all seem to be lining up in a reasonably compelling manner.
Besides, as I keep ******** on about, whatever the performance level of the 9070 models, AMD’s pricing of these new GPUs will be essential – and we’ll see the full picture tomorrow, with pricing going to be revealed at AMD’s press event for RDNA 4.
I can’t wait, and remain hopeful that Team Red will do the right thing, and not just deliver a minor price cut relative to Nvidia’s pricing and overall value proposition, but a major blow (an uppercut, so to speak, from the desktop GPU underdog).
However, I’ve got to acknowledge that there are rumors emerging which are suggesting that AMD might push MSRPs disappointingly towards making profits rather than taking on Nvidia at the mid-range. Hopefully, those are wrong, and yes, there’s a lot of hoping going on, I fully admit.

Son loses High Court case against parents over move to Africa
Son loses High Court case against parents over move to Africa
A 14-year-old boy has lost a court case he brought against his own parents after they moved him from London to Ghana to go to boarding school.
The boy, described in court as shy, articulate, a keen cook and footballer, said his parents had tricked him into going to Africa, saying it was to visit a sick relative.
He said had he known he was being sent to boarding school “there would have been no way I would have agreed to it”.
But the High Court in London also heard his parents were worried he was being “groomed” into criminal activity.
In a written statement to the court, he said: “I feel like I am living in hell. I really do not think I deserve this and I want to come home, back to England, as soon as possible.”
But High Court judge Mr Justice Hayden said the boy was at risk of suffering greater harm returning to the ***.
He said he recognised that “this is, in many ways, both a sobering and rather depressing conclusion.”
The boy, who had lived in the *** since birth, said he was “mocked” and “never settled in” at the school in Ghana.
He said he “could also barely understand what was going on and I would get into fights”.
The boy said: “I was so scared and desperate that I emailed the British High Commission.”
“I am from London, England, and I want to go back home,” he wrote.
He said he had been “mistreated” at the school, adding: “I’m begging to go back to my old school.”
However the High Court heard that the boy’s parents had sent him because they feared for his safety in London.
In a statement, his mother said sending him to Africa was “not a punishment but a measure to protect him”.
She referred to the ******* of Kelyan Bokassa, the 14-year-old boy who was stabbed to death on a bus in Woolwich in January. That was “every parent’s worst nightmare”, she said.
She said she did not believe her son would survive in the *** and did not want to be part of her son’s “destruction”.
Rebecca Foulkes, representing the boy’s father, said the boy met 11 of the points on a checklist produced by the children’s charity NSPCC to indicate whether a child might have joined a gang or was being criminally exploited.
That included being absent from school, having unexplained money, buying new things, and carrying weapons.
She said it was not only the parents who were worried.
His school claimed it had “suspicions about him engaging in criminal activities” and had observed him in expensive clothes and with mobile phones.
The boy said he had never been part of a gang, nor “involved in gangs in any way”. He said he “does not know anyone involved in a gang” and he does not carry a knife.
He acknowledged in his statements that “my behaviour wasn’t the best” and said he thought that was the reason his parents sent him to Africa.
The case centred on the question of parental responsibility, and whether the parents acted unlawfully by sending their son to boarding school without his consent.
The boy’s barrister, Deirdre Fottrell KC, pointed out the school was not simply far from home – but a completely different jurisdiction.
The boy wrote that his education was suffering. He felt the Ghanaian classes were not as challenging as those in his English school, and he had been out of formal education entirely since last summer, studying online.
He wrote: “I want to have an education again and grow up like a normal person. I feel like my brain is hurt here. I feel like now I am dumber than people I used to be smarter than.”
The boy’s father has recently visited him in Africa, and he told the court that he and his son had got on well.
He said he would like his son to remain in Ghana, and said they visited a different boarding school where the boy could be considered for a place.
The father said they were both very impressed.
However, questioned by Ms Fottrell, he acknowledged there was no place in that school until September, and that his son had not said he wanted to go there.
James Netto, from the International Family Law Group, who represents the boy, said he had recently seen a rise in similar cases where teenagers were trying to return to the ***.
“Teenagers are often placed in exceptionally challenging or vulnerable situations, and are now beginning to turn to the court for protection,” he said.
Mr Netto said he had seen cases where “in their parents’ eyes” young people were “falling in with the wrong crowd or are adopting what their parents see as unorthodox or challenging behaviours”.

Nvidia delivered earnings that beat expectations. Here’s what analysts had to say
Nvidia delivered earnings that beat expectations. Here’s what analysts had to say
The bar for Nvidia earnings was set high, and analysts feel like the chipmaker cleared it. In fiscal fourth quarter, the graphic processing unit designer earned an adjusted 89 cents per share on $39.33 billion in revenue. That exceeds the 84 cents per shares and revenue of $38.05 billion that analysts polled by LSEG had penciled in. But the company’s April gross margin guidance for 71% came slightly below Wall Street consensus. That may be the cause for the stock’s subdued post-earnings reaction. Shares were up 1% in the premarket. Here’s what analysts at some of the biggest shops on Wall Street had to say on the report. Morgan Stanley, overweight rating, $162 per share price target Analyst Joseph Moore’s target, which was raised from $152, implies about 23% upside from Wednesday’s close. “Put in perspective, this has been a remarkable growth phase for NVIDIA. In a transitional quarter, where Hopper was ⅔ of data center revenue and they were wrestling with ‘unprecedented complexity’ of new Blackwell form factors, the company still grew 18% q/q, beat guidance by almost $2bn – which has become routine, but worth repeating that no semiconductor company ever did that before NVIDIA started doing it – guided for strong growth again, and returned to very positive language around ‘amazing’ levels of Blackwell demand.” Citi, buy rating, $163 per share price target Citi’s forecast corresponds to upside of around 24%. “Blackwell sales of $11B exceeded expectations (Citi $10B) as ramp seems to be on track now after hiccups last year and Nvidia expects strong growth in 2025. Inference demand is accelerating post reasoning models like DeepSeek as long reasoning requires 100x more compute per task vs one shot inference. Gross margin outlook was 170/80 bps below Citi/Street on initial Blackwell mix but expected to exit mid 70’s late FY,” wrote analyst Atif Malik. “For long-term investors willing to look through these concerns, valuation looks attractive at 23x CY26 EPS and stock offers an attractive entry point.” JPMorgan, overweight rating, $170 per share price target JPMorgan’s target calls for 29% upside going forward. “Demand for Blackwell is very strong and will continue to outstrip supply for several quarters. We believe the team did a good job on addressing AI model innovations like DeepSeek and they continue to believe that there are multiple phases/ and innovations in models that will drive overall compute complexity higher and sustain the demand for more and higher performance compute infrastructure,” said analyst Harlan Sur. “Bottom line, the team continues to maintain a 1- 2 step lead ahead of competitors with its silicon/ hardware/software platforms, and a strong ecosystem and the team is further distancing itself with its aggressive cadence of new product launches and more product segmentation over time.” Barclays, overweight rating, $175 per share price target Analyst Tom O’Malley’s forecast is 33% above Nvidia’s Wednesday closing price. “From a top line perspective numbers came in a bit lighter than what we thought for April, but this was always the biggest quarter of risk in our eyes,” analyst Tom O’Malley wrote. “In all, NVDA has earned a very high bar and wasn’t able to deliver on its usual beat/raise cadence, but we think the company is executing smoothly through the product transition and now trades in the low 20x fwd P/E with the biggest risk to this year accounted for.” Evercore ISI, outperform rating, $190 per share price target Analyst Mark Lipacis’ price target was approximately 45% higher than Nvidia’s closing price on Wednesday. “We continue to view NVDA as a top pick post a JanQ 5% EPS beat and AprQ 1% outlook raise with bullish comments on Blackwell ramp and demand outlook. Importantly, Blackwell revs of $11bn in the JanQ were well above expectations, and mgmt. made the case for excellent visibility in CY25. Lower GMs were the fly in the ointment, but the company expects them to bounce back to mid-70% range by EoY,” analyst Mark Lipacis wrote. Bank of America, buy rating, $200 per share price target Bank of America upped its price target to $200 per share from $190, equating to 52% upside. “We reiterate our Buy rating on NVDA as the company remains in a dominant position of leading the AI market towards compute-intensive inference, agentic applications, and physical AI/robotics,” said analyst Vivek Arya. “We understand the desire to diversify portfolios away from AI/cloud, but we believe this underappreciates the solid pace of AI investments and NVDA’s compelling valuation. Visibility in non-AI markets remains muted, and many of those stocks trade at higher valuation than NVDA which does not seem reasonable to us. We expect NVDA to re-energize as excitement builds for its flagship GTC tradeshow in mid-March.”

Trump and Elon Musk will go to Fort Knox to make sure no one ‘stole’ U.S. gold. How that conspiracy theory got started.
Trump and Elon Musk will go to Fort Knox to make sure no one ‘stole’ U.S. gold. How that conspiracy theory got started.
Despite assurances made last week by Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent that all of the U.S. gold reserves kept at the Fort Knox military installation are “present and accounted for,” President Trump continues to insist that he and Elon Musk will soon travel to Kentucky to make sure the gold bars haven’t been stolen.
“We’re going to open up the doors. I’m going to see we have gold there. We want to find out, did anybody steal the gold in Fort Knox?” Trump said in a speech last week to the Republican Governors Association.
During his remarks at Conservative Political Action Committee on Saturday, Trump said that he and his senior adviser Elon Musk would pay a visit to the heavily guarded military installation about 40 miles south of Louisville and went so far as to speculate about what might happen when the door to the vault is opened.

See for yourself — The Yodel is the go-to source for daily news, entertainment and feel-good stories.
“Wouldn’t that be terrible? We open [it] up, and this Fort Knox has got nothing. It’s just solid granite that’s 5 feet thick. The front door, you need six musclemen to open it up. I don’t even think they have windows. Wouldn’t that be terrible if we opened it up and there was no gold there? So, we’re going to open those doors, we’re going to take a look. And if there’s 27 tons of gold, we’ll be very happy,” Trump said.
Days before Trump’s remarks, Musk had already given Fort Knox conspiracy theorists more fodder.
“Who is confirming that gold wasn’t stolen from Fort Knox?” he wrote in a Feb. 17 post on X. “Maybe it’s there, maybe it’s not. That gold is owned by the American public! We want to know if it’s still there.”
The latest fascination with Fort Knox
Fort Knox and the safety of just over half of the nation’s gold reserves has long been a subject that has captured the American imagination, inspiring novels and numerous conspiracy theories alleging that the gold may have been relocated or stolen. In the 1964 James Bond film Goldfinger, the eponymous villain seeks to detonate a dirty atomic bomb inside Fort Knox so as to contaminate the gold and destroy the U.S. economy.
The current dust-up over the United States Bullion Depository, aka Fort Knox, seems to have started with a tweet by the far-right Libertarian financial website Zero Hedge.
“It would be great if @elonmusk could take a look inside Fort Knox just to make sure the 4,580 tons of US gold is there. Last time anyone looked was 50 years ago in 1974,” the Zero Hedge X account wrote on Feb. 15.
Musk responded, writing, “Surely it’s reviewed at least every year?”
Chiming into the exchange, Sen. Rand Paul wrote, “Nope, Let’s do it.” In 2010, Paul, a frequent critic of the Federal Exchange, questioned whether there was still gold in Fort Knox.
Just checking vs. an official audit
Part of the confusion surrounding the 147.4 million ounces of gold kept at Fort Knox involves distinguishing between a visual inspection of the reserves versus an actual weighing of it. The vaults holding the gold at Fort Knox are not often opened to nonauthorized personnel. In fact, the last time that happened was in 2017, during Trump’s first term, when then-Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin and a Congressional delegation that included Sen. Majority Leader Mitch McConnell toured the facility.
“The gold was there when I visited it,” Mnuchin told CNBC last week. “I hope nobody’s moved it. I’m sure they haven’t. I was the first treasury secretary to go there in I think over 50 years. There’s very serious security protocols in place, obviously, to protect the gold that I can’t talk about.”
In 1975, Iowa Sen. Charles Grassley, a Republican, paid his own visit to look in on the gold at Fort Knox.
“When I went into Fort Knox, you could view the piles of gold,” Grassley told Radio Iowa. “There were separate sections of the vault, and each separate section had a door that was locked, but it had a peephole, maybe six inches square, maybe a foot square, I don’t remember anymore, and you saw the stacks of gold brick there.”
Mnuchin also added that if Trump wants Fort Knox to be audited, “That’s something that can easily be done.” Last week, Paul wrote to Trump’s treasury secretary and asked for just that, requesting in a letter for “an audit of the Mint’s holdings, including testing of the gold.”
In 1974, the last official audit of the gold was conducted by the U.S. General Accounting Office and the Department of the Treasury. But due to security measures that keep the public from obtaining too much information about the storage of the gold, audits do little to satisfy conspiracy theorists.
The 1974 audit, for instance, “was intended to quash rumors but provided only temporary relief from public skepticism,” CMI Gold & Silver, one of the oldest gold and silver dealers in the United States, states on its website. “Conspiracy theorists have two basic tenets: one, the gold in Fort Knox is enormously depleted or completely gone; two, some of the gold bars are fake — made out of tungsten with a coating of gold.”
If and when Trump and Musk do travel to Fort Knox, it seems unlikely that the treasury secretary won’t be joining them.
“I don’t have any plans to go to Kentucky,” Bessent told Bloomberg TV last week. “I can tell the American people on camera right now, there was a report, September 30th, 2024, all the the gold is there. Any U.S. senator who wants to come and visit it can arrange a visit through our office.”

Amazon touts its first quantum-computing chip a week after Microsoft’s unveiling
Amazon touts its first quantum-computing chip a week after Microsoft’s unveiling
Amazon on Thursday revealed its first chip for quantum computing, and said its design will help the company build highly efficient hardware systems.
The processor is called Ocelot, and the announcement comes as more tech companies tout their advancements in quantum. Last week, Amazon cloud rival Microsoft showed off its inaugural quantum chip. Microsoft had a paper in the journal Nature documenting its quantum work, and this week Amazon followed suit.
Some technologists hope quantum computers will be capable of solving problems that stump classical computers. PCs and phones run calculations and store data with bits that are either on or off, while quantum computers work with quantum bits, or qubits, that can operate in both states simultaneously.
“We believe that scaling Ocelot to a full-fledged quantum computer capable of transformative societal impact would require as little as one-tenth as many resources as common approaches, helping bring closer the age of practical quantum computing,” Fernando Brandão, Amazon Web Services’ director of applied science, and Oskar Painter, the cloud group’s quantum hardware chief, wrote in a blog post.
The U.S. Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) has funded quantum computing research for two decades, but the technology has been slow to make its way to consumers and businesses.
“That’s because they’re not big enough yet,” said Peter Barrett, founder and general partner at Playground Global, which has backed quantum startups Phasecraft and PsiQuantum.
At a million qubits, there are enough bits that the technology will work even if there are some problems, Barrett said. Google’s Willow, the world’s top quantum chip, features just 105, while Amazon’s Ocelot has only nine, Painter told CNBC.
Amazon CEO Andy Jassy said in 2020, when he was head of AWS, that the company was “optimistic in the future that quantum computing will play a role” as cloud gets ******* in large companies and the public sector.
Six months after Jassy made those comments, AWS released the Amazon Braket service, allowing developers to experiment with quantum computers from other companies, including IonQ and Rigetti Computing. Microsoft’s Azure cloud has a similar offering. Amazon is planning for its in-house quantum chip to become available through Braket, Painter said.
In 2023, AWS senior vice president Peter DeSantis talked about building a quantum processor at the cloud group’s Reinvent conference in Las Vegas, promising more details in the future.
Like Microsoft, Amazon fabricated its chip internally. Building a system boasting a million qubits will take collaborations with world-leading semiconductor manufacturers, according to Barrett. Outsourcing to a partner is an option as Amazon progresses with quantum hardware, Painter said.
Public interest in the space has risen lately, Painter said, as companies have discussed new ways of assembling qubits that are resistant to errors. Amazon designed Ocelot to tackle the problem of error correction, and Google’s Willow also demonstrated improvements in that area, Painter said.
Painter estimated that commercial workloads won’t be running on quantum computers for 10 years or more.
At a meeting with analysts in January, Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said useful quantum computers could be 15 to 30 years away. Days later, Meta chief Mark Zuckerberg told Joe Rogan that he isn’t a quantum computing expert but said most people believe it’s at least a decade from being viable.
Pat Gelsinger, Intel’s former CEO, is more optimistic.
“I stand by my prediction years ago — by 2030, useful quantum computing,” Gelsinger wrote in a LinkedIn comment on Wednesday.

Popular Nemesis System ‘wasn’t coming together’ cancelled Wonder Woman game
Popular Nemesis System ‘wasn’t coming together’ cancelled Wonder Woman game
Monolith was struggling to implement the fan-favorite and patented Nemesis System in the now-canceled Wonder Woman game, it’s claimed.
According to Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier, speaking on Kinda Funny Games Daily, the game, which was canceled alongside the closure of its developer Monolith, faced multiple setbacks during development.
It’s also claimed that the most recent version of the game being worked on before the studio was closed would have eliminated the Nemesis System and instead been more of a traditional action-adventure game, akin to God of War.
Following the success of its two Lord of the Rings games, the studio was working on a new IP that would have expanded on the Nemesis system’s procedural narrative. “During this time, it’s kind of clear to people at Warner Bros that this game is not going to happen, because people at Warner Bros are not interested in new IP,” said Schreier.
In 2021, the original IP was canceled by Warner Bros, which caused the entire leadership team at the studio to quit. That summer, the studio began working on Wonder Woman. The game would be announced later that year at The Game Awards with a short trailer showing off the character model.
“Warner Bros decides it’s not interested in new IP and decides they (Monolith) are going to make a Wonder Woman game,” Schreier said.
The game was rebooted around the beginning of 2024, switching directors and completely changing the direction of the game.
“The main thing that was rebooted, they were playing around with the idea this idea that Wonder Woman would befriend people, it was the Nemesis System in reverse where they would become your allies, and it wasn’t coming together,” the journalist added.
“They rebooted it to be more of a God of War style more traditional action game, by then it was kind of too late.”
A consultant on the game recently shared some details about what the title might have offered had it seen the light of day.
Reacting to the news in a thread on X, veteran comic book writer Gail Simone, who has penned many issues of Wonder Woman and served as a “long-term” consultant on the canceled title, said, “The game was gorgeous and expansive.”
She wrote: “It was beautiful to look at. I am not going to give details for a number of reasons, but every effort was made to make this not just a great game, but a great WONDER WOMAN game. A showpiece epic.
“And all of that was because of the team. Everyone who worked on it brought their a-game. Programmers, artists, designers, everyone. I don’t know that I have ever worked with a team that cared more about making sure the end product was perfect.”
Warner labeled the game’s cancelation a “tough decision” in a statement released on Tuesday.

Lori Chavez-DeRemer, Trump’s pick for labor secretary, on track to clear Senate committee with Democratic help
Lori Chavez-DeRemer, Trump’s pick for labor secretary, on track to clear Senate committee with Democratic help
Washington — Former GOP Rep. Lori Chavez-DeRemer’s nomination to lead the Labor Department under President Trump is all but certain to be advanced Thursday with the help of Democrats.
The Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions is set to vote Thursday morning to consider moving her nomination forward.
Facing opposition from Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky, a Republican member of the committee, Chavez-DeRemer’s path to confirmation once appeared in doubt. Paul had said he would oppose her because of her previous support for pro-labor policies.
Chavez-DeRemer was one of only three Republicans who supported the Protecting the Right to Organize Act, or PRO Act, in the last Congress, which did not advance past introduction. The bill would have made it easier for workers to unionize. During her confirmation hearing last week, the former lawmaker addressed her prior support for the bill, saying it was “imperfect” and she backs right-to-work laws, which allow workers to choose whether or not to join a union.
Without Paul, Chavez-DeRemer needs at least one Democrat on the Senate HELP Committee to vote to advance her nomination. Republicans have a 12-11 vote majority on the panel.
Democratic Sen. Maggie Hassan of New Hampshire said in a statement this week she will support Mr. Trump’s nominee, all but ensuring that Chavez-DeRemer has the votes needed to advance barring any surprise opposition from other Republican committee members.
“Though we may not agree on everything, after meeting with Representative Chavez-DeRemer and listening to her testimony during her confirmation hearing, I believe that she is qualified to serve as the next Secretary of Labor and I look forward to working with her to support New Hampshire’s workers and small businesses,” Hassan said in a statement.
Democratic Sen. John Hickenlooper told CBS News on Tuesday that he’s also considering supporting Chavez-DeRemer’s nomination. The Colorado Democrat cited Chavez-DeRemer’s support for youth apprenticeships, an issue he has worked on for nearly a decade, as a positive. And though he called her shifting stance on the PRO Act “a little disconcerting,” he acknowledged that she is “serving at the will of the president.”

UWA sets up Elizabeth Pearce Marine Sciences Fund in honour of former student who ‘loved the ocean’
UWA sets up Elizabeth Pearce Marine Sciences Fund in honour of former student who ‘loved the ocean’
Master’s students studying marine science will be supported by a fund set-up by the family of Dalkeith ****** victim Elizabeth Pearce in honour of her love of the ocean.
Elizabeth Pearce, 24, was killed after Rhys Bellinge’s Jaguar allegedly travelled onto the wrong side of the road at speed and crashed into her Uber on February 15.
Ms Pearce was studying a master’s degree in marine biology at the University of WA and was set to graduate later this year.
A university spokeswoman said Ms Pearce’s family had requested UWA’s Ocean’s Institute set up the Elizabeth Pearce Marine Science Fund in honour of her memory.
“Elizabeth loved the ocean and was about to start her research project as part of her Master of Marine Science at UWA,” the spokeswoman told The West ***********.
“The fund will be used to support master’s students based in UWA’s Oceans Institute and their affiliated schools and will honour Elizabeth’s passion for marine sciences.”
UWA Oceans Institute deputy director professor Nicki Mitchell said the fund would offer financial support to students studying their master’s in fields like marine biology and oceanography.
“Unlike PhD students, master’s students have limited access to research support, so the Elizabeth Pearce Marine Science Fund stands to benefit those working across disciplines such as marine biology, conservation, restoration, oceanography, ocean energy and social sciences,” she said.
Courtney Gray, who studied marine biology alongside Ms Pearce at UWA, said her friend had been keen to pursue a career in mining.
“She was so switched on, motivated and funny,” she said.
Ms Pearce had just finished a summer internship with Woodside, where her father worked for decades.
Dr Bellinge — an obstetrician at Concept Obstetrics and Gynaecology — was allegedly speeding at 130km/h and was almost four times the legal blood alcohol limit when he crashed into the Uber.

Ms Pearce — the passenger in the rideshare — was critically injured and died in Royal Perth Hospital.
The Uber driver, Muhammad Usman, sustained two broken legs and a fractured arm and was placed in an induced coma before being moved out of intensive care last Wednesday.
Mr Usman created a fundraiser on Tuesday evening asking the public for financial support and prayers after his life took a “devastating turn”.
His GoFundMe raised $114,200 in less than 24 hours from more than 2200 donors.
People can donate to the Elizabeth Pearce Marine Science Fund here.
