Thanks to a Bug, Fortnite Now Has Multiple Pay-to-Lose Skins, And It’s ****** Ops 6 All Over Again Thanks to a Bug, Fortnite Now Has Multiple Pay-to-Lose Skins, And It’s ****** Ops 6 All Over Again One bug in Fortnite is acting as the biggest nightmare for players who love to use snipers in the game. Due to this latest bug, comparisons are being drawn between ****** Ops 6’s pay-to-lose skins. The latter has been accused countless times of releasing cosmetics that put players in disadvantageous situations. Fortnite has been facing a bug that is causing problems while aiming down sight with sniper. Image Credit: Epic Games Pay-to-lose is the stark opposite of pay-to-win cosmetics, something Call of Duty games have also been criticized for. These cosmetics put certain players at an advantage over the ones who do not own them. Fortnite has largely stayed away from these accusations; however, due to the recent bug that resurfaced, things might change. Fortnite’s recent sniper bug is extremely annoying Some sniper skins in the game are super cool. Image Credit: Epic Games Imagine buying your favorite skin in Fortnite, the one that you had been waiting for for a very long time, like the Indiana Jones sniper skin, and once you hop on into the game with the new skin, you realize that it will not let you aim properly. This might make players feel that the money spent on the game is further causing them more hindrance. There have been a lot of such instances in Fortnite where players have reported scoping bugs after equipping various skins in the game, similar to how some of ****** Ops 6’s cosmetics were criticized for putting players at a disadvantage. Comment byu/broxhachoman from discussion inFortNiteBR Comment byu/Land_of_smiles from discussion inFortNiteBR Many players have reported the same issue with not just the Indiana Jones skin but with various other skins as well. Cosmetics should only exist to make the players feel special and help build their own unique identity and nothing more. When cosmetics start causing problems in-game, then it calls for some action. Epic Games needs to respond to these grievances and come up with a fix as soon as possible. Despite the criticism, Fortnite is still a great game. Cosmetics should not hinder the gameplay in any way Not all skins in the game are problematic. Image Credit: Epic Games The moment cosmetics start hindering the gameplay, it calls for some action. ****** Ops 6 has suffered from the same problem for a while now where some of the skins make players appear more vividly on the battlefield than others. Other cosmetics have in criticized for being too distracting, like the unicorn skin. Fans have often spoken against it since these kinds of skins also go against the general theme of the game and distract players. Similarly, Fortnite is also being accused of similar things. Epic Games needs to come up with this big fix in future updates since it would pose a lot of problems in the future if the same problems keep repeating in the future. The players might lose interest in buying skins altogether. What do you think about it? Let us know in the comments below. Samsung Display Patent Hints at Tri-Fold Phone With Two Hinges, S Pen Support Samsung Display Patent Hints at Tri-Fold Phone With Two Hinges, S Pen Support Samsung Display was recently granted a patent for a tri-fold smartphone that can be folded twice. The company currently offers single-fold flip and book-style foldables, but has yet to launch a competitor to the Huawei Mate XT Ultimate Design. According to a recent report, Samsung is developing a new tri-fold foldable phone that is expected to launch in the coming months, alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7. This handset is said to debut with a new foldable design that utilises a separate cover display. Samsung Tri-Fold Phone Patent Reveals Presence of Three External Cameras The US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) recently granted a patent to Samsung Display (via 91Mobiles) for a device with a tri-fold display. The document contains several images of a device with two hinges, and the three display panels can be unfolded to form a much larger screen. Like the Huawei Mate XT Ultimate Design that arrived last year, Samsung’s latest patent shows a smartphone that unfolds horizontally. The document indicates the presence of a horizontally-aligned external camera module (Fig. 10). The volume rocker is seen at the top of one of the folding panels (Fig. 13), and there’s a USB Type-C port on the bottom edge of the opposite panel (Fig. 14). Images of Samsung’s tri-fold phone from the patent document Photo Credit: USPTO The document also suggests that the inner display on the tri-fold smartphone will be surrounded by slightly thick bezels. It appears to feature a single camera on the left panel, while the one on the right appears to house an S Pen (Fig. 9), which means that it could offer support for features that require a stylus. Samsung has shown off several prototypes for foldable devices with two hinges since 2022, but the company has yet to launch a commercial version of these ‘Flex G’ and ‘Flex S’ foldables. According to a recent report, the company could be gearing up to launch its first tri-fold smartphone, that could arrive as soon as July. The rumoured Samsung G Fold could introduce a new design with three panels that fold in the shape of a G, instead of the Z-shaped fold on the Huawei Mate XT Ultimate Design. Samsung’s tri-fold smartphone could feature a separate cover display, as the inner screen of the Galaxy G Fold wouldn’t be exposed while the handset is folded. While Samsung’s latest patent also describes a phone that also folds in the shape of a G, it is currently unclear whether the company plans to launch a foldable phone with this design in the future. We can expect to learn more about the company’s first tri-fold smartphone in the coming months, as it is expected to launch — in select markets — alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7. Why Toyota didn’t follow VW, Hyundai with dual-clutch hot hatches Why Toyota didn’t follow VW, Hyundai with dual-clutch hot hatches Many brands have moved to dual-clutch automatic transmissions for their road-going performance cars to achieve lightning-fast shift times and a responsive driving experience. Despite that, the classic torque-converter automatic has been enjoying a resurgence in performance cars – and that’s exactly what Toyota has opted for with its new automatic GR Yaris and GR Corolla hatches. Both cars were previously manual-only and are built using technology and expertise developed through World Rally Championship (WRC) competition. Both now use eight-speed automatics that have been developed with motorsport and track use firmly in mind. Toyota Australia product planning specialist, Obi Morgan, told CarExpert the brand is most familiar with torque converters, especially in its faster cars, over other technologies. Hundreds of new car deals are available through CarExpert right now. Get the experts on your side and score a great deal. Browse now. Camera Icon2025 Toyota GR Corolla GTS Credit: CarExpert “[Naohiko Saito, GR chief engineer in charge of GR Yaris] referenced that we have a long history with torque converters and that we are comfortable in developing that technology and pushing it into the performance space,” he said. “We felt on balance with the everyday drivability benefits that the torque converter brings, if we could get that performance to the point where it’s very close to a DCT [dual-clutch auto] then that’s the best position for the customer. ‘That’s how I feel about it … there’s not a massive trade-off in terms of the speed and response, and at the same time in daily driving you’re not having that kind of low-speed shunt or the inner-city traffic problems you have with a DCT. That was the vision, and I think we’ve delivered on it.” In using a torque converter, Toyota has distanced itself from a range of its closest performance rivals. Hyundai, which fields a WRC team in competition with Toyota, employs a dual-clutch auto in its i30 N performance hatch alongside a manual option. The smaller rally-derived i20 N is manual-only. Camera Icon2025 Toyota GR Yaris GTS Credit: CarExpert European brands have also long embraced the dual-clutch auto. Volkswagen uses its own dual-clutch Direct Shift Gearbox (DSG) in automatic versions of its hotted-up Golf GTI and Golf R among many others, along with related cars like the Cupra Leon, Audi A3, and Skoda Octavia. Outside of the Volkswagen Group, BMW also employs dual-clutch autos in its 1 Series hatches. It did, however, announce its M performance division would be shifting away from dual-clutch autos in 2023 despite previously fitting them in multiple vehicles. Other obvious options for Toyota include continuously variable transmissions (CVTs), which the company has been producing for over two decades. Using a CVT in a performance lineup theoretically provides unbeaten smoothness and shift times, purely because there’s no need to shift at all. Camera Icon2025 Toyota GR86 GTS Credit: CarExpertCamera Icon2025 Toyota GR Supra GTS Credit: CarExpert It’s the option Subaru has gone with for automatic versions of its WRX – a brand in which Toyota holds a significant stake – despite using torque converters in the past. Regardless, Toyota has used torque converters for even longer. Such transmissions were used exclusively as an alternative to manuals in sporty cars like the Celica, Supra, and MR-2 among others, and the Japanese brand has never fitted a dual-clutch auto to a production car from the factory. It’s not the first time torque converters have been used for GR road cars either, as you’ll find such units in both the GR86 and BMW-derived GR Supra. Toyota’s updated GR Corolla, available as a manual or auto, is available now. The automatic GR Yaris will arrive in mid-2025. New Disease Spreading Rapidly, Killing Dozens, After Children Ate a Bat New Disease Spreading Rapidly, Killing Dozens, After Children Ate a Bat A mysterious illness is spreading in the northwest of the Democratic Republic of Congo. As the Associated Press reports, World Health Organization doctors say that the illness has already led to 419 cases, including 53 deaths, since the latest outbreak began on January 21. A particularly harrowing detail: in the majority of cases, doctors say, death occurs within just 48 hours of the onset of symptoms. While researchers are still trying to get a grasp on the situation, the WHO’s Africa office has traced back the first outbreak in the town of Boloko after three children ate a bat carcass and died within two days, according to the AP. The children died after bleeding from the nose and vomiting blood. The outbreak is frightening on its own, but also echoes the origins of the deadly COVID-19 pandemic, which is believed to have jumped from bats to humans in China before spreading worldwide and causing millions of deaths. According to the WHO, the still-unnamed illness poses a “significant public health threat” with a fatality rate of 12.3 percent. Lab tests of samples confirmed the illness was unrelated to other common hemorrhagic fever diseases such as Ebola and Marburg. It’s an unfortunate new development for the Central African nation. In December, a previous outbreak in the southwest of the DRC was later traced back to “acute respiratory infections complicated by malaria,” according to the WHO. The nation has also been battling a major outbreak of Mpox, formerly known as monkeypox. Officials are worried that current political instability in the country’s east could lead to an undercount of cases. Mpox is a virus that can cause painful blisters and prove fatal in some cases. Following a global outbreak in 2022 and 2023, much of the African continent, including the DRC, is still fighting the virus. Following the latest outbreak of the unknown illness, officials are trying to reassure the public that it’s extremely unlikely that the latest illness will trigger the next global pandemic. “A genuinely new illness, as we saw with COVID-19, of course can happen but is very rare,” University of Southampton senior research fellow Michael Head told the Washington Post. “Usually, it’s a bug… that we know about but haven’t yet diagnosed in that particular outbreak.” “Typically, such outbreaks are brought under control relatively quickly,” he added. “However, here, it is concerning that we have hundreds of cases and over 50 deaths, with hemorrhagic-fever like symptoms widely reported among those cases.” More on mysterious illnesses: Mysterious Disease Outbreak Has Already Killed Dozens Source link #Disease #Spreading #Rapidly #Killing #Dozens #Children #Ate #Bat Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content]

England v Australia in Las Vegas: Great Britain Lionesses remember 1996 tour England v Australia in Las Vegas: Great Britain Lionesses remember 1996 tour Sheldon and Thompson knew Nikki Carter, a Hull Vixens player who had management experience from working at a care home. They asked if she would step in as tour manager. “I was asked: ‘Do you think you could help them out?'” Carter says. “I was like: ‘What do you mean?’ They said: ‘Go to Australia with them.’ I was like: ‘Hmm, I’d love to. Best go and ask my boss, really.’ “But it suddenly started to unravel. Lots of things that should have been organised 12 weeks out from going to Australia weren’t actually organised.” The touring party had no flights, no accommodation, no kit. Sheldon says: “The previous manager, prior to Nikki, had been tasked with securing the flights, and he didn’t secure them and didn’t tell us, so it was only about three weeks beforehand that it all came out that we had no flights. “My manager allowed me time in work to phone all the airlines to try to get, I think, 32 flights at three weeks’ notice.” As Sheldon sorted flights, Carter sourced kit, chased hotels and helped to complete the fundraising. “Most of the money was raised in the final eight weeks,” she says. They needed to set up a bank account quickly for the tour. And in 1996, that was a problem. “There was no bank account set up in Australia,” Carter says, “and it wasn’t like now, where you could ring the bank and say: ‘I’m going to put this money in there and I’m going to spend it from my bank account.’ “One of the girls on the tour, who played for Wakefield, was a bank manager. And she said: ‘It’s not possible to set the bank account up. It took too long.’ “So I ended up going to Australia with a briefcase with £29,000 in cash and travellers’ cheques, because there just was no other way. I carried that briefcase through the whole tour – everywhere I went, that went.” Source link #England #Australia #Las #Vegas #Great #Britain #Lionesses #remember #tour Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content] For verified travel tips and real support, visit: [Hidden Content]

People Are Applauding A Wyoming Woman For Purposely Misgendering A State Senator To Prove A Point About An Anti-Trans Bill People Are Applauding A Wyoming Woman For Purposely Misgendering A State Senator To Prove A Point About An Anti-Trans Bill A slew of new anti-trans legislation is making headway across the country, including in the Wyoming State Legislature. Wyoming State Capitol building in daytime with a few people flying flags in front Wyoming legislators introduced HB0032, called the What is a Woman Act, which defines terms like “man” and “woman” as strictly cisgender. There’s also State File 007, a bill proposing that state employees not be required to use a colleague’s preferred pronouns. It asserts that “compelled speech is not free speech.” At a meeting of the Wyoming Senate Agriculture, State and Public Lands & Water Resources committee last Friday, Wyoming resident Britt Boril joined via Zoom call to express her disapproval of the legislation and casually stole the show. @wy.hippie.lpc posted it to TikTok, where it’s been viewed over 2 million times. State Senator Tim French, a Republican and cisgender man, called on Boril to speak. Harrison Crowe goes low to snatch NZ Open lead Harrison Crowe goes low to snatch NZ Open lead Former amateur star Harrison Crowe cashed in on a red-hot putter to take a one-shot first-round lead after a day of low scoring at the New Zealand Open. Sunny conditions left the Millbrook Resort layout at the mercy of the field on Thursday, and they took full advantage with more than half of the field breaking par. Nobody capitalised more than Crowe, who had one eagle and nine birdies in a nine-under round of 62 where the only blemish was a double-bogey six on the 13th after he lashed his tee shot out of bounds. Even then, the 23-year-old bounced straight back with an eagle-three on the following hole. “I definitely had a lot of things go my way today and I think to shoot these rounds you have to,” said Crowe who won the Asia-Pacific Amateur and the NSW Open in 2022 before turning professional the following year. “After that double bogey, to back it up with the eagle … it was a nice day out there.” Crowe had a hot run before Christmas with top-10 finishes at the NSW Open, *********** PGA and *********** Open, but had missed his last three cuts on the Australasian Tour before arriving in Arrowtown. “It’s felt a little bit annoying at times over the last month of golf,” he said. “But it’s got to turn around eventually because I’ve been playing solid-enough golf and the putts finally went in today so we’ve got to keep it rolling.” Fellow *********** James Marchesani was in outright second at eight under, a shot clear of Australians Lucas Herbert and Kevin Yuan, and South Korean Guntaek Koh. LIV Golf star Herbert is playing the NZ Open for the first time since 2020 and is eyeing the guaranteed British Open spots on offer to both the Australiasian Tour Order of Merit (OOM) winner and the tournament victor. He holed a clutch birdie putt from off the fringe on the 17th on Thursday to get to seven under, but was frustrated not to drain another makeable birdie attempt on the last hole. “I’ve struggled with the putter for a while,” said Herbert. “I felt like I putted OK without being amazing. “I hit a lot of good puttts but I couldn’t get as many to go in as I would have liked. “It’s probably going to be a week of low scoring so it was good to get off to a hot start and not feel like we’re chasing from a long way back.” OOM pacesetter Elvis Smylie is well placed in a big group tied for ninth at five under. Playing in the same group as Smylie, OOM contender Jack Buchanan had a dirty day. He eventually signed for an eight-over 79 to be in second-last spot. Takahiro Hataji from Japan made a middling start to his title defence in the $A1.8 million event with a two-under 69. China’s mature chips to make up 28% of world production, creating oversupply — Western companies express concern for their survival China’s mature chips to make up 28% of world production, creating oversupply — Western companies express concern for their survival When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. Credit: Shutterstock ******** legacy chipmakers and silicon producers are hitting the global market hard, and Western competitors are struggling to keep up with the intense supply and low prices. Industry speculators are predicting a “China shock” for chipmaking, and some companies already feel the squeeze. The production of mature process nodes, typically above 20nm, is the lifeblood of chip manufacturers outside the bleeding edge. Legacy nodes largely power consumer electronics and automotive use cases, and the production of these older nodes and the silicon wafers that create them provide valuable profit streams for funding R&D departments across the chip industry. In 2025, however, it will become increasingly challenging to outbid a growing wave of ******** fabs pricing their wares far cheaper than Western companies can afford to compete. Due mainly to American sanctions blocking ******** companies from access to modern process nodes and manufacturing equipment, China’s fast-growing semiconductor sector has pivoted to legacy chips to feed its needs for domestic tech. China’s fabs are expected to account for 28% of global mature chip capacity by the end of 2025. “Just two years ago, a mainstream 6-inch SiC [silicon carbide] wafer from global leader Wolfspeed was $1,500,” an anonymous sales director for a ******* chipmaker shared with Nikkei Asia. Today, the same 6-inch wafer is sold for only $500 by Guangzhou Summit Crystal Semiconductor, where dozens of other little-known ******** fabs price their wafers at similarly impossible undercuts. The sales director called China’s growth in the sector “a bloody knockout match.” He continues, “We expect many ******** players as well as foreign players will get hurt. Many of them already have, and eventually many will have to exit these bloody games.” The aforementioned Wolfspeed, once the world leader in silicon wafer production, is now recovering from laying off 20% of its staff in response to its stock value falling 96% in 3 years. Onsemi, an Arizona-based legacy semiconductor company, announced its layoffs, which affected 9% of staff today. While not all of this downsizing can be blamed on ******** dominance, the U.S. government has publicly speculated that China’s rapid rise in legacy chip manufacturing would have this effect on the U.S. industry. China’s new wave of legacy chip companies is powered by heavy government investment at the national and local levels. China’s “Big Fund” for semiconductor production has raised ¥688 billion ($95 billion) over three rounds, with local governments investing in their regional champions. Story Continues The sector’s widespread growth across China creates dozens of new players with which Western companies must compete. However, this growth also risks serious oversupply. China’s 28% mature node market share is expected to grow to 39% by 2027. “There is already oversupply in several types of mature chips, and China’s economy hasn’t fully bounced back yet,” says the IDC’s Galen Zeng. “We expect ******** players to ramp up more aggressively than their global peers over the next few years, driven by China’s localization push.” The market flooding of legacy chips coming from China is beginning in full, as predicted when China first announced its ramp-up of mature node production in 2023. The full effect of this new theater of the U.S.-China “Chip War” on both countries and chipmakers, large and small, is yet to be seen. As profit margins disappear in the name of growing market share, the profit motive will not look kindly on either aggressor in this legacy chip melee. It is a clash for the top spot! | Image Credit: Visual Concepts It was recently revealed to Reigns that he was the highest-rated currently active superstar alongside Cody Rhodes, who had the same rating. There’s no doubt that Rhodes has had a phenomenal year, but does he truly deserve to be on the same level as The Tribal Chief? So how does WWE decide these ratings, and do they always reflect reality? Roman Reigns and Cody Rhodes have the same rating in WWE 2K25 But does one deserve to be higher than the other? | Image Credit: Visual Concepts According to WWE 2K24 developers, the ratings are determined by a wrestler’s accomplishments over the past year. Factors such as championship wins, match performances, and overall dominance are all taken into account. Producer Bryan Williams previously explained in an interview with Square Circle Pit that is done to have a sort of hierarchy instead of having everyone rated at the top. In WWE 2K24, we saw Reigns hold the highest rating at 97 due to his dominant title reign. But with Cody Rhodes now holding the Undisputed WWE Championship, his rating has jumped up from 93 to match Reigns. In WWE 2K25, both wrestlers are rated at 96. The game is shaping up to be a big one. “Who’s above me?? ” – @WWERomanReigns The rating reveal you all have been waiting for! Acknowledge our cover star and Tribal Chief as he reacts to hearing his #WWE2K25 rating! @HeymanHustle pic.twitter.com/EvvAdimLnF — #WWE2K25 (@WWEgames) February 25, 2025 Roman Reigns’ reaction to his 96 rating was a mix of disbelief and humor. Upon learning that he was rated 96 and tied with Cody Rhodes, Reigns demanded to know who was rated higher than him. Learning that some of the stars in the game’s Legends roster had a higher rating, Reigns sarcastically dismissed the number as “trash,” only to later accept it due to its connection with his college football number. Cody Rhodes’ official overall rating in WWE 2K25 is 96. Tied with Roman Reigns this year. pic.twitter.com/uMr0jYXFgS — Wrestle Ops (@WrestleOps) February 25, 2025 Cody Rhodes’ rise to a 96 rating is largely due to his recent success in WWE. After winning the 2024 Royal Rumble, he went on to defeat Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 40 to claim the Undisputed WWE Championship. But we can make an argument that his short reign at the top doesn’t compare to Reigns’ historic title run of over 1,300 days. Regardless, it’s what the devs decided so. What’s done is done, we can simply enjoy the game now And it seems like a big entry to the franchise. | Image Credit: Visual Concepts From a storyline perspective, Cody Rhodes being rated 96 makes sense. He is currently the Undisputed WWE Champion and one of the most popular superstars in the company. But Reigns carried the WWE on his back for years. Some of us probably saw him first ten years ago as kids and he’s still here. He does deserve a lot of praise and respect. But this is after all, still a video game. Beyond the ratings debate, WWE 2K25 is going to feature the largest roster in the franchise’s history, with over 300 wrestlers available. Developer Bryan Williams has also teased post-launch content in other interviews including the upcoming DLC, stating that fans will be shocked by some of the additions. The question of whether Cody Rhodes deserves to share the highest rating with Roman Reigns ultimately depends on perspective. If ratings are purely based on recent accomplishments, Rhodes’ 96 rating is very fair. But if overall dominance and long-term impact are factored in, Reigns arguably deserves to be rated higher. Parallel Experiment’s Steam version faces delay, will now simultaneously release with the Android and iOS versions in June Parallel Experiment’s Steam version faces delay, will now simultaneously release with the Android and iOS versions in June Parallel Experiment’s Steam launch has been pushed back It will release on June 5th with the Android and iOS versions Go on an intriguing adventure as Ally and Old Dog Parallel Experiment, the cooperative puzzler experience from Eleven Puzzles, was all set to launch on Steam in March, but some unexpected challenges seem to have slowed down the development. Now, you’ll take on the Cryptic Killer in June, when the game releases on both PC and mobile. If you were waiting for Parallel Experiment on Android and iOS, things could’ve been worse as the developers originally considered scaling back optional puzzles, additional mechanics, and even the mobile version to meet the original deadline. Now, all versions will release simultaneously, which is great given that crossplay will be available right off the bat. In Parallel Experiment, you and your partner take on the roles of detectives Ally and Old Dog, trapped in a twisted experiment orchestrated by the Cryptic Killer. The only way forward is to solve a series of interdependent puzzles, each requiring teamwork and communication. With over 80 challenges, you’ll be deciphering ciphers, redirecting water flows, hacking computers, and even waking up a drunk. The noir-inspired setting and comic book art style bring this mystery to life, immersing you in a tense race against time. The investigation isn’t all high-stakes problem-solving, though. Between puzzles, you can challenge your partner to retro-style mini-games like darts, claw machines, and match-three puzzles, each with a cooperative twist. While you wait, you can check out this list of the best puzzlers to play on iOS right now! Interactive dialogues deepen the mystery, with NPCs responding dynamically to both detectives. And if you feel like causing a little trouble, every level includes ways to annoy your partner, whether it’s knocking on windows, shaking their screen, or just doodling something questionable in your detective notebook. With five times the content of their previous project, Parallel Experiment will push your cooperative gameplay experiences to higher levels. It will now launch on June 5th. You can visit the Steam page for more information. Henderson man kidnaps Las Vegas business owner after his wife steals $20M: police Henderson man kidnaps Las Vegas business owner after his wife steals $20M: police LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A Henderson man is accused of kidnapping the owner of a construction company after an IRS investigation revealed his wife allegedly embezzled $20 million, according to an arrest report. William Costa, 42, of Henderson, faces charges of kidnapping, coercion with the use of force, extortion, grand larceny of a motor vehicle, and dissuading someone to report a crime, records showed. In the last months of 2024, the IRS opened a case into Larry Gilmore’s company, Gilmore Construction LLC, and determined that his accountant, Cynthia Marabella, had stolen $20 million from the business over seven years, documents said. On Feb. 20, around 8:30 a.m., Gilmore was driving to his office when he saw a purple Lamborghini at the intersection of Dean Martin Drive and Starr Avenue. The IRS had previously told him that Marabella purchased a purple Lamborghini with stolen funds from his company, police said. As he was looking at the Lamborghini, a ****** Chevy Suburban rear-ended Gilmore. He got out of his vehicle to expect the damage and began talking to an unknown man. The two men took pictures of the damage and as Gilmore went to take a picture of the back license plate, he noticed there was not one, the report said. He was then immediately shown pictures of his wife and children on the man’s phone as he told him, “You know what this is Larry,” and “Get in the car.” Two more men then got out of the Suburban and pushed him into the vehicle where they checked him for weapons, took his phone and Apple Watch, placed them in a signal-blocking bag, zip-tied his wrists and placed a bag over his head, according to police. One of the men took his keys and drove Gilmore’s vehicle away, the report said. The men then drove Gilmore about 10 minutes to an unknown location and put him in a large lifted ****** truck before driving him to another unknown location in the desert. There the men placed Gilmore on his knees with a gun to the back of his head. When they took the hood off, he saw Costa — Marabella’s husband who he had known for about 12 years, and two other unknown men, police said. Costa told Gilmore to stand up and walk with him. The men walked into the desert and proceeded to have an hour-long conversation, during which Costa gave Gilmore two options. Either Gilmore helps drop the charges against Marabella by telling the IRS the money was a gift or an investment for a business or Costa would kill Gilmore’s entire family leaving him and his father alive so they can witness the murders, according to the arrest report. Gilmore told Costa that he did not know about the case until the IRS contacted him. He pleaded with Costa who agreed to let Gilmore talk to his father and business partner about “fixing” the matter. Costa told Gilmore that if he could drop the charges he would be forever indebted to him and would attempt to pay some of the stolen money back, according to police. The two men then walked back to the truck where Gilmore was told not to look at anyone and was not re-hooded. Gilmore recognized the area as south of Las Vegas near Sloan, the report said. The men drove Gilmore to the M Resort and Casino where his car was abandoned. They gave him his phone and watch back and he got in his car and drove away. Gilmore said he was scared for the safety of his family’s life and his life, so he was hesitant to report the kidnapping to police. He later decided to report the incident and showed minor injuries to his wrist and knees consistent with being zip-tied and shoved to the ground. Gilmore also had injuries to ribs that were consistent with being hit, police said. On Feb. 21 around 3:50 a.m., police went to Costa’s home and called him from outside of the residence. Costa initially refused to come out of the home but later complied and was arrested. He was scheduled to appear in court on March 12 and remained in custody Wednesday on $1.5 million bail. Kostis Palamas, One of the Greatest Greek Poets Kostis Palamas, One of the Greatest Greek Poets The Greek poet Kostis Palamas. Credit: Public Domain Kostis Palamas was not only one of the major Greek poets of modern times. He was also one of the most inspiring figures of Hellenism, as pieces of his literary work were adopted as national poems of the young modern Greek state. Born in Patras on January 13, 1859, Palamas tragically lived long enough to witness Greece being occupied by ******* forces during World War II. He died on February 27, 1943. Palamas’ enormous body of poetic work is imbued with history, Hellenism, and the formation of the “Great Idea” for his homeland, while at the same time, it dealt with everyday man and his feelings. He was named Greece’s National Poet during his lifetime. Greek poet Kostis Palamas was a significant figure for Hellenism The poet’s lyricism and word-crafting skills were remarkable, but aside from his status as a national bard, Palamas was also a literary critic, a writer of prose, and a literary philosopher. Palamas lost both of his parents at an early age. In 1864, his mother Penelope died while giving birth, and less than a year later, his father Michael passed away as well. The six-year-old Kostis was then taken care of by his uncle, Dimitrios Palamas, and he moved to his home in Messolonghi. The young boy stayed there from 1867 until 1875. He began writing poems and literature as early as high school. As soon as he completed high school, in 1876, he moved to Athens, where he enrolled in the Law School at Athens University. His studies, however, did not last long, since the heart of young Palamas longed to write poetry and focus on literature in general. He began working as a journalist to make a living, using different aliases, and he wrote feverishly. Palamas soon stood out from his colleagues. He became the founder of the “New Athenian School” in poetry, and in 1886, he published his first collection of poems, titled Songs of My Fatherland. In 1887, he married Maria Valvi, with whom he had three children, Nafsika, Leandros, and Alkis. His youngest son, Alkis, died at the age of five, and the poet was lost in grief. In memory of Alkis, he wrote “Tomb” (1898), a magnificent elegy. His many honors and awards In 1879, Palamas was appointed Secretary of the University of Athens and, until his resignation in 1928 as secretary-general, he won many honorary distinctions. In 1924, the French Government honored Palamas with the Legion of Honor, and in 1929, he was appointed President of the Academy of Sciences there. Early in 1933, the ******* ambassador to Athens honored him with the “Goethe” medal. Palamas was declared the Interim President of the newly established section of the International Writers’ Union as well. In 1934, the Spanish government honored him with the “Plaque del l’Ordre de la Republique” medal, and a year later, he was awarded the Medal of the Milanese Library of Congress. In 1936, Palamas celebrated his fifty-year contribution to Greek poetry and literature by receiving the title of Dean of the Royal Order for his contributions to Letters and Art from the Ministry of Education. In 1937, his statue was raised in Messolonghi. Palamas’ wife, Maria, passed away on February 9, 1943. A few days later, on February 27, 1943, Palamas himself died. As many as a hundred thousand Greeks paid their respects to the National Poet before the shocked eyes of the Germans, who were occupying the country in those years. Palamas’ collections of poetry Songs of my Fatherland (1886) Hymn to Athena (1889) Eyes of my Soul (1892) Iambs and Anapaests (1897) The Grave (1898) The Greetings of the Sun-born (1900) The Motionless Life (1904) Twelve Lays of the Gypsy (1907) The King’s flute (1910) Yearnings of the Lagoon (1912) Satirical Exercises (1912) The State and Solitude (1912) Altars (1915) Extempora (1919) The 14 verses (1919) The 5 verses – The passionate secret whispers – The Wolves – Two flowers from afar (1925) Cowardly and Harsh verses (1928) The 3 Verse Cycle (1929) Passages and Greetings (1931) The Nights of Phemius (1935) Evening Fire (1944, posthumous edition by his son, Leandros Palamas) Prose Death of a Youth (novel, 1901) Novels (1920) Famous verses “This I tell you, and nothing else: Get drunk on the immortal wine of 1821.” “The greatness of a people is not measured in acres.
