Plans for memorial statue of Hugo the celebrity West End cat Plans for memorial statue of Hugo the celebrity West End cat ****** Brown BBC Scotland, Edinburgh and East reporter Edinburgh’s West End Hugo was well known among local people in the west end of Edinburgh, where he was a common sight on its cobbled streets A cat that was knocked down by a car in Edinburgh two years ago could be immortalised in bronze, under new plans submitted to the council. Hugo was well known among local people in the west end of Edinburgh, where he was a familiar sight on its cobbled streets. Now locals have commissioned a life-sized statue of the much-missed **** in the hope of bringing the community together and increasing visitor numbers. If it gets planning permission it would be the 16th sculpture of an animal in Edinburgh. There are 79 statues of men and eight of women. Alan Beattie Herriot The cat would be secured to a wall in William Street in Edinburgh Sculptor Alan Beattie Herriot, who created the statues of Wojtek the Bear in Edinburgh’s Princes Street Gardens, has been lined up to take on the commission. It is understood that thousands of pounds have been raised by the community for the sculpture, which they hope to place on a wall in William Street with a plaque. The model would be cast in hot bronze at the capital’s Powderhall Bronze Foundry. Hugo, an Arabian Mau, was owned by local woman Jane Rutherford who rescued him from Doha when he was six months old. But during his life in Edinburgh he became well known in the West End of the city, where many people looked after him. He was seven years old when he died in May 2023 after being hit by a car that failed to stop. His death led to calls for a change in the law, requiring drivers to report when they collide with a cat. Ms Rutherford, 55, said: “I miss him dreadfully and still look for him on William Street when I’m on autopilot. “So when I see the statue it will make me feel really happy because he was one in a million, he was a proper little character.” Edinburgh’s West End Hugo used to be seen at different shops in Edinburgh’s West End Paul Hancock, West End community council engagement officer, told BBC Scotland News he failed to see any reason why the statue would not get planning permission. “It’s been done in good taste and in keeping with the historic nature of the city centre and world heritage site, so I think it can only be considered an asset. “He is fondly remembered by a lot of people in the West End and our local Facebook page would always have pictures of Hugo in all sorts of random locations – he was a genuine interest in the West End. “We are hoping people will remember him and come through the West End. “We are short of footfall for some of our traders, so it will bring some valued trade to the West End and he will be fondly remembered.” Alan Beattie Herriot Alan Beattie Herriot is considered one of Scotland’s finest figurative sculptors Sculptor Alan Beattie Herriot, who also created the statue of footballer Denis Law in Aberdeen, said he was excited about this latest commission. “He was a well known beastie in the streets of the West End of Edinburgh,” he added. “It’s really nice for me to be asked and it’s nice to do a piece of sculpture. “It’s always going to be an added point of interest for visitors to the city and I will make the nicest piece of sculpture that I can. “It’s going to be there for a long time, hopefully.” Alan Beattie Herriot Alan Beattie Herriot would make the model out of clay before turning it into a mould for the bronze foundry Source link #Plans #memorial #statue #Hugo #celebrity #West #cat Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content]

Breaksea puts out call for youth writers to contribute to 2026 bicentenary production the Albany Project Breaksea puts out call for youth writers to contribute to 2026 bicentenary production the Albany Project Breaksea is looking for talented young storytellers for a groundbreaking stage show that will notch a starring role in Albany’s bicentenary celebrations. The arts organisation has put out a call for people aged 12 to 18 to join its Youth Writer Group workshops, kicking off the first stages of planning for the Albany 2026 music production, the Albany Project. In collaboration with the West *********** Opera, the project will explore the theme of “a future where anything is possible” while looking back on noteworthy characters, the stories of colonisation and the Menang Noongar culture that flourished for thousands of years before. Camera IconBreaksea cultural consultant Rachael Colmer and Breaksea youth ambassador Cass Swarbrick. Credit: Laurie Benson The youth development and consultation for the production, which is one of seven flagship events, will run across 14 sessions in March and April, starting on Saturday. Attendees will be guided by local industry experts including writers Jon Doust and Rachael Colmer, who will offer advice and provide a “structure to organise the chaos”. “It’s about what the participants think is a crucial piece of the Albany story,” Doust said. Trump declines to answer question about China and Taiwan Trump declines to answer question about China and Taiwan By Trevor Hunnicutt WASHINGTON (Reuters) -U.S. President Donald Trump on Wednesday declined to comment in response to a question about whether the United States would ever allow China to take control of Taiwan by force. “I never comment on that,” Trump said at the White House. “I don’t want to ever put myself in that position.” Trump spoke during a Cabinet meeting in response to a reporter’s question about whether it was his policy that China would never take Taiwan by force while he is president. Trusted news and daily delights, right in your inbox See for yourself — The Yodel is the go-to source for daily news, entertainment and feel-good stories. He said he intended to have good relations with China, including cross-border investment, despite his imposition of tariffs on goods from the country. Beijing has never renounced the use of force to bring democratically governed Taiwan under its control. Taiwan strongly objects to China’s sovereignty claims. In a separate interview with Fox News, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the government had a long standing position on Taiwan it was not going to abandon, namely being against any forced or coercive change in Taiwan’s status. “America has existing commitments that it has made to prevent that from happening and to react to it, and that would be executed on….the ******** are aware of this as well,” he said, when asked what would the U.S. do if China attacked. The United States switched diplomatic recognition from Taipei to Beijing in 1979 and has long said it does not support a formal declaration of independence by Taiwan. It does, however, maintain unofficial relations with Taiwan and remains its most important backer and arms supplier under a law that requires Washington to provide Taiwan with a means to defend itself. The United States has long stuck to a policy of “strategic ambiguity,” not making clear whether it would respond militarily to an attack on Taiwan. Trump’s predecessor, Joe Biden, took a different approach during his time in office, saying that U.S. forces would defend Taiwan if China were to attack. Meta’s end to third-party fact-checking ‘pragmatic’ Meta’s end to third-party fact-checking ‘pragmatic’ Reddit‘s co-founder says Meta‘s decision to end third-party fact-checking on its platforms was a “pragmatic” one, characterizing the move as a reversal of an unviable program. In January, just days before Donald Trump was sworn in as U.S. president for the second time, Meta announced it would end third-party fact-checking on its platforms, a program often criticized by Trump and conservatives for what they say unfairly targeted right-wing content. In a series of sweeping policy changes at the media giant, CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced he would install a community-based system instead. “It was a very pragmatic change,” Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian told CNBC at the Web Summit in Qatar on Sunday, adding “it is impossible to do fact-checking at scale, let alone in real time, as Facebook was trying to do.” “In many ways, I think they were just winding back something that was a bad idea from the start because it was untenable,” Ohanian added. Meta launched its global fact-checking program in 2016 in a bid to tackle misinformation, and has since partnered with fact-checking organizations in more than 100 countries. The rollback will begin in the U.S., according to the company, and will not affect other countries yet. The Reddit co-founder, who created the “front page of the internet” in 2005, also weighed in on the future of social media. “I think we’ll get to a place where we as users get to choose our algorithms, and because, without a doubt, these platforms, we’re all incentivized to have the best possible algorithm, not because of anything sinister, but because we want to keep people engaged,” he said. Reddit, which went public in March last year and was valued at $6.4 billion, was one of the first social networking platforms, and began when MySpace still dominated user’s screens. Reddit has struggled with moderation in its own history, eventually banning revenge porn, and cracking down on racism and misogyny in its communities. Today, the platform has over 70 million daily active users, and boasts “community-specific rules” across individual communities, or subreddits. ‘More personalized approach’ In a post about Meta’s new content moderation policies, Joel Kaplan, Meta’s chief global affairs officer, wrote, “Starting in the US, we are ending our third party fact-checking program and moving to a Community Notes model.” Kaplan added that Meta would “take a more personalized approach to political content, so that people who want to see more of it in their feeds can.” Meta did not immediately reply to CNBC’s request for comment. The community notes model is also favored by Elon Musk-owned X, which says it aims to “create a better informed world by empowering people on X to collaboratively add context to potentially misleading posts.” Kaplan praised X’s success with the model, saying “We’ve seen this approach work on X – where they empower their community to decide when posts are potentially misleading and need more context, and people across a diverse range of perspectives decide what sort of context is helpful for other users to see.” Kaplan, a prominent Republican who replaced Nick Clegg at Meta, added that “Meta’s platforms are built to be places where people can express themselves freely. That can be messy. On platforms where billions of people can have a voice, all the good, bad and ugly is on display. But that’s free expression.” After Trump’s inauguration, Zuckerberg joined a number of major American firms in ending programs designed for diversity, equity and inclusion. The Meta boss recently expressed regret over some of the company’s decisions in a letter to Congress, in which he said the Biden Administration had pressured Meta into censoring certain content around Covid-19. Apokries: Greek Carnival Season Reaches Peak this Weekend

Apokries: Greek Carnival Season Reaches Peak this Weekend Apokries: Greek Carnival Season Reaches Peak this Weekend Greek Carnival floats for Apokries in Patras. Credit: Tony Esopi/Wikimedia Commons/CC BY-SA 3.0 Carnival celebrations in Greece, or “Apokries,” are some of the most beloved traditions in the country, and are reaching their climax this weekend. Celebrated before the ******* of Great Lent, or “Sarakosti,” begins, Apokries allow revelers to partake in all the food, dance, and celebration they can before the 40 days of spiritual reflection begin. During Lent, believers are supposed to reflect on the coming celebration of Easter, as well as the days before it that mark the suffering and death of Jesus. Therefore, the faithful abstain from eating a variety of foods during Lent, most notably meat — the word “Apokries,” which roughly translates to “abstaining from meat,” comes from this practice. While Apokries festivities are celebrated in the weeks before Clean Monday, “Kathara Deftera,” the first day of Lent, they culminate in the weekend just before it. Kathara Deftera falls on Monday, March 3 this year, and on that day families traditionally spend the day outdoors, flying kites and eating traditional foods. On the weekend before, however, Greeks usually celebrate by dressing up in costumes, partying, and having a parade throughout the streets of their cities. These festivities are accompanied by live music, creative floats, and lots of confetti. Patras, Naoussa famous for Apokries festivities The city most famous for its Apokries celebrations is Patras, in the Peloponnese, which has the oldest and one of the largest carnival celebrations in the country. It started in 1870, the annual Patras events include everything from gala ****** and parades to children’s events such as treasure hunts and a children’s carnival. Thousands of locals and visitors gather in Patras each year for the spectacular chariot parade that takes place on Sunday morning and the burning of the Carnival king in the evening before Clean Monday. The ritual burning of the carnival king. Credit: Undead_warrior, CC BY-SA 3.0/Wikipedia Other traditional events for carnivals take place every year in cities and towns like Xanthi, Rethymno, Kastoria, Tyrnavos, Volos, and others across Greece. Dozens of beloved local festivities take place for Apokries across the entire country. However, very few have as deep links with the nation’s ancient and more recent past as the custom of the ”Genitsari and Boules,” or simply ”Boules,” of Naoussa, in northern Greece. This custom is likely among the oldest Greek traditions which has managed to survive to this very day. For this reason, the Carnival of Naoussa is completely different from all other Greek Carnival festivities. There, along with the contemporary, popular street parties that take place throughout the two weeks of the Carnival season, the city revives this ancient tradition. In one of Naoussa’s most visually striking customs, young unmarried men dress in a traditional costume which includes the Greek fustanella and other clothing bedecked with silver and jewels, while wearing a unique, handmade mask known as a ”Prosopos.” This incredibly colorful and unforgettable event, which takes place on the first Sunday of the ”Apokria,” is repeated on the second Sunday, as well as on Ash or Clean Monday. Centuries-old tradition dictates that only young, unmarried men can become ”Genitsari,” the male players who take part in the dance. Among Stocks That Could Skyrocket After Jensen Huang’s Earnings Call Among Stocks That Could Skyrocket After Jensen Huang’s Earnings Call We recently published a list of 10 Stocks That Could Skyrocket After Jensen Huang’s Earnings Call. In this article, we are going to take a look at where Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company Limited (NYSE:TSM) stands against other stocks that could skyrocket after Jensen Huang’s earnings call. DeepSeek AI revelations were the biggest concern for investors when the month started. Many had started questioning if investing so much in AI infrastructure was worth it. Since then, the market sentiment has turned positive again and many of the stocks have recovered. We are now closing in on the most anticipated earnings call of the year so far: Jensen Huang telling us on 26th February how his company performed in the previous quarter. Investing in the supply chain of big companies has proven beneficial over the years. As the stronger and the ******* company grows, it helps the smaller companies which are an important part of the supply chain also grow. The Santa Clara-based chipmaker’s earnings will affect the whole market, not just its suppliers. Analysts expect an earnings beat on both the EPS and revenue. This is what the KeyBanc analysts had to say about the earnings: “Despite prior concerns regarding constraints associated with the ramp of GB200 NVL servers, we expect NVDA to report strong F4Q results, which we anticipate will solidly beat, and to guide F1Q conservatively and moderately higher than consensus.” We decided to take a look at companies that will benefit from the above-mentioned earnings beat. To come up with our list of 10 stocks that could skyrocket after Jensen Huang’s earnings call, we looked at stocks that are major suppliers of the company. Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSM): Among Stocks That Could Skyrocket After Jensen Huang’s Earnings Call A close-up of a complex network of integrated circuits used in logic semiconductors. Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company Limited is a manufacturer, tester, packager, and seller of integrated circuits and other semiconductor devices. It also provides customer and engineering support services and investment services and manufactures masks. Apple Inc. is the biggest customer of the chipmaker, with Jensen Huang’s firm coming in second. With such a big reliance on the number one GPUs in the world, TSM is likely to be the most affected stock from Jensen Huang’s earnings call this week. The Blackwell GPUs are being manufactured at the company’s Taiwan facilities. The earnings call will be dissected for evidence of Blackwell GPU revenues and if they start showing up, TSM stock will respond. However, if the Blackwell GPU execution issues continue, it will bring the uncertainty back. Story Continues The execution issues are arising due to the simple fact that not all the data centers are capable of installing these GPUs without the associated equipment also being of similar high standards. Investors must note, however, that any such impact will be short-term, as there is no other company in the world that can manufacture these high-end products. The revenue may be delayed, but it will come. Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company Limited is 6th on our latest list of the 30 Most Popular Stocks Among Hedge Funds. As per our database, 186 hedge fund portfolios held TSM at the end of the fourth quarter which was 158 in the previous quarter. Overall, TSM ranks 1st on our list of stocks that could skyrocket after Jensen Huang’s earnings call. While we acknowledge the potential of TSM as a leading AI investment, our conviction lies in the belief that some AI stocks hold greater promise for delivering higher returns and doing so within a shorter time frame. MITCHELL JOHNSON: Virat Kohli’s India playing Champions Trophy games in Dubai not Pakistan is not a good look MITCHELL JOHNSON: Virat Kohli’s India playing Champions Trophy games in Dubai not Pakistan is not a good look The 2025 Champions Trophy has generated quite a bit of discussion, particularly about India’s arrangement to play in Abu Dhabi not Pakistan which allows them to play on the same pitch for the entire tournament. Many respected voices have pointed out that this seems unfair to the other teams and it’s an argument that has legitimate weight despite the obvious security concerns India has about playing in Pakistan. This isn’t the first time the governing body has come under fire for how it handles matters related to India and it raises questions about the overall integrity of the tournament. As for the current players, it’s likely they feel a mix of annoyance and frustration about the situation. However, they’ll have to compartmentalise their feelings to maintain focus on their objective: winning games and, ultimately, the tournament. The politics of sport can be distracting and players who allow themselves to be drawn into it risk losing sight of their primary goals. This situation also brings up several questions regarding the tournament’s fairness, especially as the finals approach. Currently, the fixture lists the venue of the finals as “TBA,” which leaves the ICC time to see which teams advance and where they will come from. Historical context is important too, for instance, during the 2015 World Cup New Zealand played all their group matches at home but encountered challenges when they reached the finals in Melbourne, where they hadn’t played prior and faced different conditions. The dynamics of tournament locations and preparations can greatly impact team performance. It makes sense for international teams to adapt to varying conditions, as this is part of the game. However, having tournaments in the same country can help ensure fairness and consistency in playing conditions, which is crucial for a level playing field. If the finals end up in Dubai, teams will definitely need to be prepared to travel quickly and adjust to the local conditions, which can be a significant challenge. The ability to adapt is important but it is equally critical to maintain some uniformity in tournament logistics to uphold the integrity of the competition. Many expected a strong turnout in Pakistan, given the passion for cricket there, but perhaps external factors played a role in the attendance. While stadiums may not be packed, there’s likely still a significant viewership at home, especially with so many platforms available for fans to catch the action. I’ve found it tough to watch with the late afternoon start times in Perth and with commitments of my kids’ sports, it can be tough to find the perfect moment to settle down and watch a match. It’ll definitely be fascinating to see the overall viewing figures once the tournament is concluded, particularly as thrilling matches like the Australia and England game, which could boost interest in one-day international cricket longer term. As for the comments from the England camp, it’s always intriguing how psychological games play out in cricket, especially leading up to a big series like the Ashes later this year. *********** players would have seen England’s reaction and feeling they “deserved” to win, it will fuel their motivation for the Ashes. It seems like England is grappling with some doubts, especially after Afghanistan bundled them out of the Champions Trophy overnight. The recent loss to Australia might hint at an underlying pressure within their ranks, and it’ll be interesting to see how they respond moving forward. Although it was just one of those games in ODIs where Australia won the big moments and backed there batting line-up with the impressive century form Josh Inglis, who has really found his groove. England’s dynamics of their playing style and mindset will be crucial as they prepare for tougher competitions ahead, especially against teams that have figured out ways to counter their strategies in the longer form more so. After the washout with South Africa, Australia finds itself in a strong position. However, they can’t take Afghanistan lightly, they have a talented squad and will be confident against Australia after beating them in the T20 World Cup last year. Australia usually thrives in pressure situations and big tournaments, but Afghanistan will be coming in without the weight of expectation, which can make them a dangerous opponent. In Australia’s only game so far, they showed that chasing can be a favourable tactic, especially with dew making the ball harder to grip for bowlers later in the match. Winning the toss will be crucial, but the pitches generally favour batting with consistent bounce and little seam movement, which usually leads to higher scores. Overall, it’s shaping up to be an interesting matchup, and both teams will need to bring their A-game. HUD secretary announcing elimination of rule Trump warned would ‘destroy the value of houses’ HUD secretary announcing elimination of rule Trump warned would ‘destroy the value of houses’ Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Secretary Scott Turner said he would terminate the Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing (AFFH) rule on Wednesday, repealing the law which was enacted to “overcome historic patterns of segregation.” President Trump originally terminated the rule created during the Obama administration in 2020 after he said it would “destroy the value of houses” but it was restored by former President Biden in 2021. “By terminating the AFFH rule, localities will no longer be required to complete onerous paperwork and drain their budgets to comply with the extreme and restrictive demands made up by the federal government,” Turner said in a Wednesday statement obtained by The Hill. “This action also returns decisions on zoning, home building, transportation, and more to local leaders,” he added. The HUD secretary outlined a new process that no longer requires local zoning decisions to be informed by a 92-question grading tool as well as an analysis of impediments. It repeals former President Barack Obama’s expansion of the Fair Housing Act (FHA) which was passed as part of the Civil Rights Act of 1968. The law prohibits housing discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, disability, familial status or national origin. It also requires federal agencies and recipients of federal housing funds to affirmatively further fair housing. Turner said the Trump administration’s changes provide an “opportunity” to “make homes more affordable, spur business creation, and create economic opportunity for every American.” The move comes a week after he announced that there will be a task force within the agency dedicated to eliminating department spending. My Hero Academia: The Strongest Hero will shut down its servers next month My Hero Academia: The Strongest Hero will shut down its servers next month My Hero Academia: The Strongest Hero will shut down on March 31st SSS+ copies of heroes and 100,000 coins will be given to everyone You can get a refund if you made any purchases in the last week My Hero Academia: The Strongest Hero is coming to an end. The developers have just announced that the service will officially shut down on March 31st, 2025. While this isn’t the news anyone wanted, there is still time to make the most of what’s left. As of now, The Strongest Hero will no longer be available for download from the App Store or Play Store. In-game purchases have also been disabled. If you made any purchases between January 25th and February 24th, you may be eligible for a refund, as long as you submit your request before the servers go offline. The customer support team will remain available for 30 days after the shutdown. To help you enjoy the final weeks, all players will receive SSS+ copies of limited-time heroes and 100,000 Hero Coins. This reward mail will be available until the shutdown date, giving you access to some of the strongest characters before the service officially ends. You can continue using your existing Hero Coins as usual until the servers go offline. Like many gacha RPGs, The Strongest Hero has reached the end of its run after four years. The market has become increasingly saturated, and keeping a live-service RPG sustainable for the long term is more difficult than ever. Just last month, I covered the shutdowns of Atelier Resleriana and Soul Tide, two more gacha RPGs that couldn’t hold their audience. While The Strongest Hero had a solid run, it eventually fizzled out like so many others before it. Once March 31st arrives, the servers will shut down permanently, and all official social media accounts will close. If My Hero Academia: The Strongest Hero has been part of your routine, now is the time to revisit your favourite moments, use any remaining resources, and enjoy the last few months of content. Check out this list of the best games of the year (so far) to find yourself a worthy replacement! Metal Detectorists Pulled Up a 15th-Century Sword—and Couldn’t Believe Its Condition Metal Detectorists Pulled Up a 15th-Century Sword—and Couldn’t Believe Its Condition A detectorist from Poland’s Bishop’s Detectory Association located a two-handed medieval sword near a riverbank. The 3.2-foot-long sword was fully intact and complete with a hilt, pommel, and guard. Experts have dated the discovery to sometime in the 14th or 15th centuries. One can imagine that a sword large enough that it required two hands to swing about in battle could get rather tedious to lug around medieval-era Poland. As such, one could also understand some poor soldier’s decision to dump his 3.2-foot-long, two-handed sword known as a “Zweihänder” in a weapons deposit around the 14th or 15th century (probably in favor of something lighter). But, as the saying goes, one man’s trash is another man’s treasure. Metal detectorists in Poland from the Bishop’s Detectory Association now consider the sword—along with other weapons and tools they found alongside it in the deposit—to be a significant discovery. They handed the weapons, which also included two axe heads, over to the Voivodic Monument Protection Office and then the Ostroda Museum. Experts were impressed at how well preserved the sword—with its hilt, pommel, and guard—remained while buried near a riverbed, according to a report from Heritage Daily. The museum wrote in a translated Facebook post that preservation of the pieces will begin with a series of X-rays to better understand the find. The museum, which is housed in a former Teutonic castle, said this will be the first two-handed sword in its collection—a fitting location for such a discovery. According to The Association for Renaissance Martial Arts, the popularity of the two-handed sword grew across the 15th century, stemming from the popularity of the longsword during the Late Middle Ages. The Zweihänder—literally meaning “two-hander”—looks like, essentially, a ******* longsword. Zweihänders were considered specialized weapons, were common throughout Europe (especially with Swiss and *******), and continued to grow in popularity through the 16th century. A two-handed sword was considered effective in close quarters, did require extra skill to wield, and was most widely used during the Renaissance. The good condition of this particular sword may be thanks to it having been underwater for years. The origin of the Zweihänder remains a mystery, but Lukasz Szczpanski—an archaeologist at the Ostroda Museum—has a theory, according to Heritage Daily. “Undoubtedly,” he said, “this deposit is related to the Osa backwaters. Today, this river is regulated, but in the past, it had the wild character of a meandering riverbed. Perhaps there was a bridge crossing there, where these objects were lost by the owners.” The bridge theory may not be the only plausible explanation for how the weaponry ended up scattered. The potential site of an early medieval settlement is located near to where the detectorists made their find, meaning that there could be even more axe heads and unique swords sitting entrenched in the surrounding earth, waiting to be found. Marvel Rivals’ Leaked Season 2 Theme Suggests X-Men Will Finally Get the Attention They Deserve Marvel Rivals’ Leaked Season 2 Theme Suggests X-Men Will Finally Get the Attention They Deserve If you’re an X-Men fan, then these recent Marvel Rivals leaks and hints are right up your alley. As the first season starts progressing into its second half, fans are eagerly speculating about what’s next. A recent in-game message from Doctor Doom has gotten players speculating on what it may mean. We’re already thinking about Season 2! | Image Credit: NetEase The current speculation seems to be that the second season of NetEase Games’ hit game will be focused on the iconic Hellfire Gala storyline from the comics. With leaks suggesting the arrival of characters like Emma Frost and Blade, we can expect to see fancy skins, mutant politics, and much more when Season 2 rolls around. Marvel Rivals could go full mutant in Season 2 And it’s time for all the X-Men fans. | Image Credit: NetEase We recently got the biggest hint yet for the Season 2 theme for Marvel Rivals in the latest Gallery Card titled Plans Within Plans. This piece of in-game lore ends with Doctor Doom stating, “Now, if you’ll excuse me, Doom has a gala to attend.” It may just seem like a normal statement at first, but there’s already speculation about whether it has any connection to the Hellfire Gala, a major event in Marvel’s X-Men comics. First introduced in 2021, it showed us a mix of mutant power, diplomacy, and, of course, comic book fashion. The event featured the election of a new X-Men team, the public unveiling of mutant nation Krakoa, and appearances from major Marvel icons like Magneto, Doctor Doom, and the Fantastic Four. The potential Hellfire Gala really gives us hope that X-Men characters will finally get the attention they deserve in Marvel Rivals. So far, the majority of the game’s roster has focused on characters outside the X-Men universe, but this season could change that. Recent leaks suggest that Emma Frost, a major player in the Hellfire Gala storyline, could be one of the next playable heroes. Current Characters in the Marvel Rivals game files Blade – Season 2 Launch Ultron – Season 2 Mid-Season Emma Frost – Season 3 Launch Jean Grey (Phoenix) – Season 3 Mid-Season Follow @MarvelRivalLeak for more pic.twitter.com/EKTieswQj9 — Marvel Rival Leaks (@MarvelRivalLeak) January 9, 2025 While Emma Frost appears to be the frontrunner for Season 2, she may not be the only X-Men character joining Marvel Rivals. The Hellfire Gala often includes a major roster shake-up in the comics, meaning the game could take inspiration and introduce additional mutants. Cyclops, Jean Grey, and Rogue are all part of the X-Men team revealed during the Gala in Marvel Comics. We can’t forget our favorite vampire slayer Blade is also in the leaked roster. | Image Credit: NetEase But wait, what does this mean for Blade? Wasn’t he also set to be one of the next characters coming out? Don’t worry, we are asking the same question. The vampire hunter was expected to arrive soon after his involvement in the Eternal Night Falls storyline, but what does this potential focus on the Hellfire Gala mean? Well, there are a lot of possibilities. Blade and Emma Frost could be released separately, one at the start of Season 2 and the other in a mid-season update. It’d be similar to how the cast of the Fantastic Four has come out. There are a lot of leaked characters on the horizon, and we can rest assured that NetEase will get to them all. Of course, all of this is based on leaks and speculation. NetEase Games has yet to officially confirm the full scope of Season 2. But with Season 1 slowly winding down, we can expect the developers to make an official announcement soon. With an expected launch in April, Marvel Rivals is only getting better. Trump threatens 25% tariffs on EU, says bloc formed ‘to ******’ U.S. Trump threatens 25% tariffs on EU, says bloc formed ‘to ******’ U.S. US President Donald Trump holds a cabinet meeting at the White House in Washington, DC, on February 26, 2025. Jim Watson | Afp | Getty Images U.S. President Donald Trump threatened to impose 25% tariffs on imports from the European Union, claiming that the economic and political bloc was formed “to ******” the U.S. On Wednesday, during the first Cabinet meeting of his second term in office, Trump said that duties against Canada and Mexico would take effect on April 2 and that his trade measures will include a 25% tariff on goods from the EU. “We’ll be announcing it very soon,” he told reporters. “It’ll be [a] 25% [tariff] generally speaking, and that will be on cars and all other things.” He added, “They’ve really taken advantage of us … They don’t accept our cars, they don’t accept, essentially, our farm products. They use all sorts of reasons why not. And we accept everything of them.” The president has made it a priority to tackle what he sees as unfair trade relationships with a number of the U.S.’ closest neighbors and trading partners, citing the U.S.’ persistent trade deficits — in which it imports more goods and services than it exports — as evidence of this. Trump claimed, without citing evidence, that the EU had been formed to undermine the U.S. “I love the countries of Europe. I guess I’m from there at some point, a long time ago, right? … But [the] European Union was formed in order to ****** the United States … that’s the purpose of it, and they’ve done a good job of it. But now I’m president,” he said. The EU was established after the 1993 enforcement of the Maastricht Treaty, building on post-war sentiment of European unity and cites establishing an internal market and achieving sustainable development among its aims. European Commission data show that the EU had a trade surplus of 155.8 billion euros ($159.6 billion) with the U.S. for goods in 2023, but ran a 104-billion-euros deficit on services. Machinery and vehicles make up the largest chunk of EU exports to the U.S. by product group, followed by chemicals, other manufactured goods and medicinal and pharmaceutical products. Tariffs on EU imports would likely translate into higher prices for U.S. consumers, with economists already warning of the potentially inflationary impact of import duties. Europe rattled again European markets are heading for a sharply lower open and Trump’s tariffs threat have rattled the EU, which has previously threatened to respond to the measures in a “proportionate way.” The European Commission, the EU’s executive arm, responded to Trump’s comments by pledging to “react firmly and immediately against unjustified barriers to free and fair trade, including when tariffs are used to challenge legal and non-discriminatory policies.” Reacting to Trump’s claims about the EU’s origin, the Commission noted that the EU had benefitted the U.S. Chad Ehlers | Getty Images “The European Union is the world’s largest free market. And it has been a boon for the United States. By creating a large and integrated single market, the EU has facilitated trade, reduced costs for U.S. exporters, and harmonized standards and regulations across 27 countries. As a result, U.S. investments in Europe are highly profitable,” the Commission said. The EU urged the U.S. to work with it “to preserve these opportunities for our people and businesses. Not against each other.” The tariffs prospect is not new, with Trump having already threatened the EU and U.K. with levies. The White House leader had nevertheless previously signaled that a deal could be worked out with Britain, which has a much more balanced trading relationship with the U.S. Source link #Trump #threatens #tariffs #bloc #formed #****** #U.S Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content] For verified travel tips and real support, visit: [Hidden Content]

Nvidia’s fourth-quarter earnings beat expectations Nvidia’s fourth-quarter earnings beat expectations Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang delivers a keynote address at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) 2025, showcasing the company’s latest innovations in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA, on January 6, 2025. Artur Widak | Anadolu | Getty Images Nvidia’s revenue in 2024 more than doubled compared with a year earlier, beating analysts’ expectations. Moreover, the company expects sales in the current quarter will continue to grow at a faster rate than Wall Street’s estimates. Much of that falls upon Nvidia’s new Blackwell artificial intelligence chip, which Big Tech companies are pouring billions into. The chipmaker also downplayed concerns over DeepSeek, saying that more efficient AI models still require plenty of processing power in the long run. Meanwhile, consumer surveys from the Consumer Board and the University of Michigan show intensifying concerns over the economy and inflation. That’s culminated in the 10-year Treasury yield passing below that of the 3-month note, causing an “inverted yield curve” — an accepted, and largely accurate, sign of an impending recession within 18 months. Even as Nvidia is raking in revenue and Big Tech is powering ahead with capex, confidence in the U.S. economy seems to be wobbling slightly. It remains to be seen if tech can stabilize that. What you need to know today Nvidia beats expectations, provides rosy guidanceNvidia reported fourth-quarter earnings after the bell on Wednesday that beat Wall Street expectations. Net income during the quarter rose to $22.09 billion, an 80% jump from the $12.29 billion in same ******* a year earlier, while quarterly revenue rose 78%. Nvidia also offered guidance for the current quarter that is higher than LSEG estimates. But its rate of growth is slowing — shares fell 1.5% in extended trading. Still, CEO Jensen Huang is confident next-generation AI will need 100 times more compute than older models. S&P and Nasdaq break losing streakOn Wednesday, both the S&P 500 and Nasdaq Composite broke their four-day losing streaks. The broad-based index ticked up 0.01% and the Nasdaq advanced 0.26%. The Dow Jones Industrial Average, however, fell 0.43%. Asia-Pacific markets were mixed Thursday. Japan’s Nikkei 225 rose around 0.3% even as Seven & i shares plunged as much as 12% after the company said the founding family had failed to secure the financing needed to buy out the convenience store operator. Economic announcements at China’s meetingChina will hold its annual parliamentary gathering, known as the “Two Sessions,” starting Tuesday. At the opening meeting, Beijing is expected lower its annual consumer price inflation target to around 2% from 3% or higher in prior years, according to the Asia Society Policy Institute. Analysts also think China will increase its budget deficit, which would allow for more meaningful stimulus measures. U.S. yield curve invertedThe 10-year Treasury yield passed below that of the 3-month note in Wednesday trading, giving rise to an “inverted yield curve.” It’s seen as a predictor for recessions. In fact, the New York Fed considers it such a reliable indicator that it offers monthly updates on the relationship along with percentage odds on a recession occurring over the next 12 months. [PRO] Nvidia shares to shake markets Nvidia’s earnings, which came out after the bell, will have a larger-than-usual effect on the stock market over the next two days, according to data from Goldman Sachs. Two reasons are behind Nvidia’s outsized influence this time. And finally… Tesla CEO Elon Musk postponed a scheduled trip to India this week where he was to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi, citing “heavy Tesla obligations.” Anadolu | Anadolu | Getty Images Modi wants Tesla to build cars in India. Making the plan work may not be easy India has been hoping that Tesla will set up a manufacturing base in the country. And the carmaker that has appeared reluctant for long is now signaling interest in the market, just as the Indian government attempts to welcome it by implementing a new electric vehicle tariff policy. India introduced an EV policy last year that proposes to lower the import duties on EVs to 15% from about 70%, with the government set to start accepting applications under this policy before end-March, according to domestic news agency IANS. The EV policy represents a targeted move to appeal to Tesla’s business interests, signaling India’s readiness to support EV manufacturing, Ammar Master, a South Asia director of automotive at GlobalData, told CNBC.
