  1. More pain for commuters as pay stoush stalls metro work More pain for commuters as pay stoush stalls metro work Passengers waiting for the extension of Australia’s only driverless train network are facing further delays because of a bitter industrial stand-off. Converting a rail line that had taken passengers since 1895 to accommodate driverless trains on the Sydney Metro was a complex task and won’t be completed on time, Transport Minister John Graham told reporters on Wednesday. The work, which has forced an estimated 60,000 commuters in southwest Sydney onto buses since September, was scheduled to take about a year. But the completion date has now been pushed back until sometime in 2026. Industrial action due to an ongoing dispute between the NSW government and rail unions over a new pay deal had been “very disruptive” to the conversion work, Mr Graham said. “We’ve seen significant impact – including from industrial action – 130 days that have been impacted in some way,” he said. The Fair Work Commission in February ordered industrial action be paused until July in the hope the dispute can be resolved. The Electrical Trades Union, one of the unions involved in the dispute, has launched legal action in the Federal Court in a bid to overturn the decision. Stations on the southwest metro conversion have been fitted with screen doors and mechanical “gap fillers” providing a bridge between platforms and the driverless trains that will eventually pull up there. Lifts have also been added at several stations to improve accessibility. But testing will take some time, as more trains are run more quickly along the line to ensure safety. Sydney Metro is the nation’s biggest public transport project, comprising four lines, 46 stations and 113km of new rail. The project also includes lines to the city’s west and the under-construction Western Sydney Airport. Services from Tallawong to Chatswood in Sydney’s northwest which opened in 2019 were extended under the harbour and through the city centre to Sydenham in August. That extension opened 15 days later than originally planned while awaiting approval from safety regulators. 2. KC steakhouse closes another location after contamination case. ‘Difficult decision’ KC steakhouse closes another location after contamination case. ‘Difficult decision’ Kansas City’s longtime steakhouse Hereford House has closed its Zona Rosa location. A spokeswoman with the Northland shopping center told The Star the restaurant did not renew its lease after 20 years of being in the space at 8661 N. Stoddard Ave. Its last day was Sunday. Hereford House confirmed in a statement to The Star that it had made the “difficult decision” to close but did not provide more details. This marks the second closure in the last year for Hereford House following a high-profile scandal. A former Leawood employee was arrested last April for allegedly contaminating food served at the Johnson County spot. The Leawood location, 5001 Town Center Drive, closed just a few months after the incident. It had been open for 28 years. Court documents accused Jace Hanson of urinating in the food and rubbing his buttocks and genitals on it. Dozens of people filed lawsuits in subsequent months against the restaurant, claiming to have fallen ill. In September, Hanson pleaded not guilty to 22 counts of criminal threat for allegedly contaminating food, one count of criminal damage and 10 counts of ******* exploitation of a child for allegedly possessing child ******* abuse materials. Hereford House still has locations at 17244 Midland Drive in Shawnee and 19721 E. Jackson Drive in Independence. The restaurant first opened in Kansas City’s Stockyards District in the greater downtown area in 1957. It sells steak, prime rib, chicken sandwiches and more. 4. Destiny 2’s Friendliest Vendor Could Be One of the Strongest Enemies Guardians Have Faced in Combat Destiny 2’s Friendliest Vendor Could Be One of the Strongest Enemies Guardians Have Faced in Combat In the vast and mysterious world of Destiny 2, Guardians come face to face with a variety of formidable foes, ranging from Hive creatures to ruthless warlords. But perhaps one of the most enigmatic and potentially dangerous figures in the game is someone we rarely know about, The Nine. There are various mysterious factions in the game. | Image Credit: Bungie Adding to this mysterious faction is the secret vendor that offers Guardians exotic weapons and gear every weekend: Xûr. To most players, he is just the friendly vendor who helps Guardians become more powerful by selling them exotic items in exchange for a special currency. Even though he’s a mysterious figure, he’s never been seen as a threat. But after his recent statement, he might just be one of the biggest ones, should he ever go head-to-head with us. An unsettling line that breaks the immersion in Destiny 2 The vendor’s line might be a subtle hint at his power. | Image Credit: Bungie As much as Xûr might seem like a friendly face at the Tower with all his exotic goodies, there’s more to him than meets the eye. He is part of The Nine faction, which is one of the most mysterious factions in Destiny 2, and little is known about them. What we do know is that they are deeply tied to the Sol system. Each member of the Nine is inherently connected to the planets they inhabit, and this cosmic link makes them, in a distant way, connected to the Guardians, who have sworn to protect the same worlds. Despite this rather deep connection, the faction rarely interacts with the Guardians directly. Instead, it just sends its agent, Xûr, to deal with us. But even though he appears to be doing us a favor by providing us with exotic weapons, the truth may be that his true intentions are still shrouded in mystery. One line that stands out from the vendor in particular: “Do not be alarmed. I know no reason to cause you harm.” This statement is strange and unsettling. Why? The Guardians are some of the most powerful warriors in the galaxy. They have fought and defeated gods, monsters, and tyrants. Comment byu/SplashDmgEnthusiast from discussion indestiny2 Comment byu/SplashDmgEnthusiast from discussion indestiny2 Why would a vendor feel the need to reassure Guardians, who have been through countless battles with unstoppable enemies, that they shouldn’t be alarmed by him? This suggests that there could be more to his role in the game than merely acting as a vendor. The hidden agenda of the Nine and Xûr Players are intrigued by the vendor’s few lines. | Image Credit: Bungie The mystery surrounding Xûr and the Nine is one of the reasons why they are so intriguing. Despite their apparent benevolence in helping us become more powerful, it’s important to remember that the Nine have never revealed their true purpose or intentions. After all, they are tied to the very fabric of the universe. They’re not bound by the same limitations as the Guardians, and their motives might not align with ours. Given the power that the faction holds, it’s not hard to imagine that their vendor could one day become one of our most formidable enemies. With Destiny 2 continuing to expand and the lore around the Nine remaining an ongoing mystery, it’s possible that Xûr could become one of the most dangerous foes the Guardians will ever face. For now, he remains a vendor, but there is always a possibility that the man behind the counter, who seems to have our best interests at heart, may one day be a significant threat that Guardians have to face head-on. In the end, only time will tell if the Nine’s true motives will be revealed and whether Xûr will be revealed as the ally he seems to be or the enemy we never saw coming. 6. U.S. will control it ‘one way or the other’ U.S. will control it ‘one way or the other’ President Donald Trump said Tuesday that the United States would take control of Greenland “one way or the other,” escalating months of increasingly aggressive rhetoric towards the self-governing Danish territory. Addressing a joint session of Congress in Washington, Trump said he had “a message tonight for the incredible people of Greenland.” “We strongly support your right to determine your own future, and if you choose, we welcome you into the United States of America,” he said about halfway through his 90-minute speech. Trump also pledged to Greenlanders that America would “keep you safe, we will make you rich, and together, we will take Greenland to heights like you have never thought possible before.” But in between the warm wishes Trump’s tone shifted, as he again made the case to Americans that U.S. control of the ice covered Arctic landmass was crucial to their national security. “We need Greenland for national security and even international security, and we’re working with everybody involved to try and get it,” Trump said “But we need it really for international, for world security, and I think we’re going to get it. One way or the other, we’re going to get it,” he said. An aircraft alledgedly carrying US businessman Donald Trump Jr. arrives in Nuuk, Greenland on January 7, 2025. Emil Stach | Afp | Getty Images “It’s a very small population, but a very, very large piece of land. And very, very important for military security,” the president concluded, before moving on to a separate topic. The slightly menacing appeal to Greenlanders was unexpected. But it was hardly without precedent. Trump has been fixated on the strategic importance of the glacier covered island for years, and he has repeatedly suggested that the United States should buy the autonomous territory. In January, his eldest son Donald Trump, Jr. made a highly publicized visit to Greenland’s capital, where he filmed video for a podcast. The trip was billed as a personal visit, but the president posted a video of his son arriving that had strong political overtones. “Don Jr. and my Reps landing in Greenland,,” Trump wrote of his son’s visit to Nuuk. “The reception has been great. They, and the Free World, need safety, security, strength, and PEACE! This is a deal that must happen. MAGA. MAKE GREENLAND GREAT AGAIN!” he added. Denmark has bitterly rejected Trump’s overtures about acquiring the island, which date back at least to 2019. Trump’s interest in the island is not merely personal: It’s also part of a broader national security strategy focused on countering Russian and ******** power in the Arctic Circle. 7. Takeaways from Trump’s address to Congress Takeaways from Trump’s address to Congress President Donald Trump’s first address to Congress since returning to power is both a victory lap following a consequential first 43 days in office and an attempt to justify what he’s done to an American public that may still be digesting his rapid-pace changes. On tariffs, government cuts and foreign affairs, Trump has taken dramatic steps that have left Democrats fuming and even some Republicans skeptical, while foreign capitals have scrambled to respond. His task Tuesday was to say why. Trump’s speeches almost always fall into two categories: the raucous rally remarks that can’t be contained on a teleprompter and more staid policy addresses that usually lack the energy of his wilder events. This time, the dramatics began in the audience, when Democratic Rep. Al Green interrupted the president repeatedly before House Speaker Mike Johnson ordered the House sergeant-at-arms to eject the Texas congressman. Trump was prepared to parry with Democratic hecklers during his speech, but the address was carefully scripted to make his case to one of his largest television audiences of the year. Even his criticism of Democrats for not applauding him was written into his speech. That made Tuesday’s address one of the most partisan in memory, with Democrats almost uniformly resistant to his agenda and Trump lashing out at his opponents with open contempt. Rapid pace of change The executive actions reshaping the federal government have come fast and furious in Trump’s first month-and-a-half; his team is far more experienced this time around, and the president himself is impatient to fulfill his campaign promises. Yet for many Americans, the flurry of changes has been confusing. Polls show skepticism seeping in about Trump’s priorities. Tuesday’s speech was an opportunity to present a cogent argument. He chose to highlight Elon Musk, the billionaire in charge of his government efficiency effort who was sitting in the galleries. “He’s working very hard. He didn’t need this. He didn’t need this,” Trump said, before goading Democrats further: “Everybody here, even this side, appreciates it. I believe they just don’t want to admit that,” he said, pointing toward Democrats. Issue number 1 The hours ahead of Trump’s speech were hardly the economic backdrop he may have hoped for. Stock markets tumbled as the broad tariffs he announced on Mexico, Canada and China reverberated among investors. Almost as soon as markets closed, his commerce secretary suggested there may be a pull-back on the new duties on Wednesday. Nonetheless, Trump — who has advocated for tariffs since the 1970s, and once called “tariff” his favorite word — was not backing away from the strategy during his biggest speech of the year. “Whatever they tariff us, we tariff them. Whatever they tax us, we tax them,” he’ll say in the speech, according to excerpts released by the White House. “We will take in trillions of dollars and create jobs like we have never seen before.” Many Republicans have deep reservations about the tariffs, and lawmakers from states that could be hard-hit spent Tuesday on the phone with Trump’s aides voicing their concerns. They had been hoping to hear from Trump a more fulsome explanation of his tariff plan, and an explanation of how average Americans might benefit. Blame it on Biden Trump has made his predecessor, former President Joe Biden a central figure of his second presidency, blaming him for everything from higher prices to foreign conflicts. Tuesday’s speech has been no exception. He accused Biden of leaving him problems ranging from the high price of eggs to authorizing too much money for Ukraine, according to excerpts of the speech. “As you know, we inherited, from the last administration, an economic catastrophe and an inflation nightmare,” Trump said in his speech. Every president inherits obstacles left to them by the previous administration. Yet how much longer Trump can blame Biden for the country’s continued challenges remains to be seen. Eventually, voters look to the office-holder to fix their problems — not blame them on someone else. 9. US Representative Al Green is removed from chamber during Trump address US Representative Al Green is removed from chamber during Trump address Representative Al Green was ejected from the House chamber for heckling President Donald Trump during his joint address to Congress on Tuesday night. Green, a Democratic lawmaker from Houston in Texas, stood up and shouted ‘Mr President, you don’t have a mandate!’ just minutes into Trump’s address, referring to Medicaid cuts. He was immediately drowned out by Republicans shouting “U-S-A!,” before House Speaker Mike Johnson ordered his removal from the chamber. Green is a fierce critic of President Trump, and called for the impeachment of the president during his first term in office. Speaking to reporters after he left the chamber, Green said he is willing to accept whatever punishment he is given for his actions. He doubled down on his message, saying Trump “has no mandate to cut Medicaid”, and that he is preparing articles to impeach the president. “This is the richest country in the world, and we have people who don’t have good health care. We’ve got to do better and now we’re about to cut Medicaid, which is for [the] poor,” he said. Green was not the only Democrat who protested in the chamber. Several Democratic women were seen wearing pink dresses in protest of President Trump’s policies, saying that rising costs are disproportionately affecting women. Others were seen wearing yellow and blue ties, to show their support for Ukraine, representing the colours of the country’s flag. Trump said Monday that he is pausing all military aid to Ukraine, a few days after his spat with Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky in the Oval Office. The Democrats largely remained seated and quiet throughout Trump’s address, but some flashed placards with the word ‘false’ on them in response to some of the president’s claims. This is in contrast to Republican lawmakers, who loudly applauded throughout Trump’s speech and occasionally burst into ‘U-S-A’ chants during his speech. 10. St George kicks off study at newly acquired Brazilian niobium project St George kicks off study at newly acquired Brazilian niobium project St George Mining has kicked off a major downstream processing study at its high-grade niobium-rare earths project Araxá in Brazil, as it looks to fast-track the project to production having last week completed the acquisition. The company will conduct metallurgical and recovery test work in collaboration with leading Brazilian scientific agencies EMBRAPII and SENAI. Its focus will be on optimising niobium and rare earth recoveries via flotation processing to ensure maximum efficiency and sustainability in future high-grade production. St George’s comprehensive metallurgical program has already been initiated and a substantial drilling campaign is also scheduled to begin this month. Management says the test work will require three large representative samples – each exceeding 60 kilograms – selected from across the project area. The samples cover a range of mineralisation types and will undergo bench-scale test work to refine the processing flowsheet. With the Araxá acquisition finalised and $20 million in recent funding, the company says it has a strong financial base to carry out all required studies and drive the project to commercialisation. We are excited to now have boots on the ground at Araxá following completion of the project acquisition last week. We have a number of important work programs scheduled to commence in the coming weeks including our maiden drill campaign, geophysical surveys, geotechnical studies and downstream processing studies – as well as the release of our maiden JORC mineral resource estimate. The company has a highly credentialled technical team in-country to fast-track the development studies, which includes former senior executives from Companhia Brasileira de Metalurgia e Mineração (CBMM). CBMM is the world’s dominant producer of niobium and has an open pit and processing operations right next to St George’s Araxá project. CBMM’s own Araxá niobium mine is a world-class deposit with some 896 million tonnes at 1.49 per cent niobium pentoxide. The Brazilian unit of the Mosaic Company has an Araxá phosphate mine with 519mt grading 13.4 per cent phosphorous pentoxide. Both projects exploit Barreiro carbonatite host rock. St George’s processing study is set to define the best methods to recover high-purity niobium and rare earths. The company expects a standard optimised flotation flowsheet of grinding, magnetic separation of iron-rich minerals, desliming and flotation for a premium concentrate product. St George is set for a busy first half of the year. It expects to deliver a JORC-compliant mineral resource and the initial metallurgical test results from its flotation studies in the next quarter. The company will then nail down follow-up drilling campaigns to expand its resource confidence to progress to pilot plant studies. Niobium is essential in high-strength steel, clean energy technologies and next-generation batteries and demand for the critical mineral is expected to surge in the coming years. St George has secured the industry’s top talent in its bid to become the next force in niobium production, forging partnerships with global leaders and is executing a disciplined development strategy. With test work and resource drilling underway, the company is making rapid progress towards transforming Araxá into what it hopes will be the next world-class mine to emerge from the fabled Barreiro carbonatite complex. 11. Warren Buffett surprisingly dumped 2 US-based investments he’s told millions of Americans to buy for years Warren Buffett surprisingly dumped 2 US-based investments he’s told millions of Americans to buy for years Warren Buffett surprisingly dumped 2 US-based investments he’s told millions of Americans to buy for years — should you get rid of them too? Warren Buffett is not only one of the savviest investors of our time, but also one of the wealthiest. The Oracle of Omaha now has an estimated net worth of over $160 billion. But he’s long been an advocate of investing in as simple a manner as possible. “There’s huge amounts of money that people pay for advice they really don’t need … In my view, for most people, the best thing to do is to own the S&P 500 index,” he said in May 2020. Buffett has also famously said that 90% of his wife’s inheritance will go into an S&P 500 index fund. So he’s clearly a big fan of this strategy. But SEC filings data recently revealed that Buffett’s company Berkshire Hathaway unloaded its entire positions in the Vanguard S&P 500 ETF and SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust — two low-cost exchange-traded funds the company had previously held for years. And that’s a move that may be spooking investors and causing them to question their own portfolios. Buffett did not explicitly say why his company chose to completely exit two established S&P 500 ETFs last quarter. But there are a number of reasons why he may have gone this route. “… this could indicate concerns about market valuations, increased volatility, or even a shift toward individual stock selection over broad index exposure,” said Daniel Milks, founder of Fiduciary Organization & Woodmark Advisors, to etf.com. Just because Buffett recommends that the typical investor put their money into the S&P 500 doesn’t mean that’s the strategy he needs to utilize. Buffett knows a lot more about investing and analyzing businesses than the typical person. So he doesn’t need to fall back on the broad market the same way an investor with minimal knowledge might. Also, the shares of S&P 500 ETFs that Buffett dumped were, collectively, a pretty small position for Berkshire. It’s possible Buffett and team have exited small positions that don’t have a major impact on performance as a means of cleaning up their company’s portfolio, something they’ve reportedly done before. Story Continues “Given Warren Buffett’s history of emphasizing long-term investing, this isn’t necessarily a warning sign for retail investors to panic,” Milks explained. “Instead, it may reflect Berkshire’s preference for direct stock holdings or a belief that certain sectors within the S&P 500 are overvalued.” Read more: Home prices in America could fly through the roof in 2025 — here’s the big reason why and how to take full advantage (with as little as $10) Buffett dumping his company’s S&P 500 ETFs and other stocks, and his growing cashpile may cause investors to worry he’s anticipating a near-term market ******. Last quarter, Berkshire sold its entire stake in Ulta Beauty, and trimmed its stakes in Bank of America, Citigroup, Nu Holdings, Charter Communoication, and Capital One, “What’s more notable is that Berkshire sold significant stakes in individual companies that make up a large portion of these ETFs and the broader indices they track. That’s where the real attention should be,” Melissa Caro, founder of My Retirement Network, told etf.com. “Selling SPY and VOO doesn’t necessarily imply a bearish market outlook, but trimming major individual holdings could signal something about Berkshire’s view on specific stocks or sectors.” In a recent BofA Global Fund Manager Survey, 89% said U.S. stocks are overvalued, representing a 24-year high. But Buffett has long acknowledged that no one can predict where the stock market is going in the near term. So rather than give into fears, his advice to investors is to hold onto investments with good fundamentals for decades, relying on the fact that the stock market, broadly speaking, has a long history of recovering from downturns and rewarding investors who stick with it. If you’re worried about a near-term stock market ******, rather than panic, remind yourself of your long-term investing goals and make sure your portfolio suits your investment horizon. If you’re investing for a retirement that’s 20 or 30 years away, there’s no sense in reacting to any sort of near-term market event – hypothetical or actual. What you should do, though, is make sure your portfolio is well-diversified and balanced. The nice thing about adding index funds is that they give you instant diversification. Just make sure you don’t have much portfolio overlap. This article provides information only and should not be construed as advice. It is provided without warranty of any kind. Trump may meet Canada and Mexico ‘in the middle’, says US commerce chief Trump may meet Canada and Mexico ‘in the middle’, says US commerce chief US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick has said President Donald Trump will “probably” announce a deal to reduce tariffs on Canada and Mexico on Wednesday. “Both the Canadians and Mexicans were on the phone with me all day today trying to show that they’ll do better” on reducing the flow of fentanyl into the US, Lutnick said in an interview with Fox Business Network. But Canada’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Mélanie Joly told the BBC’s Newsnight that her office had not been contacted about the plan. Canada and Mexico announced retaliatory import levies on the US after Washington’s 25% tariffs on its two neighbours came into effect on Tuesday. Lutnick made clear that he expected the US tariffs to be lowered rather than paused. “I think [Trump’s] going to figure out, ‘you do more, and I’ll meet you in the middle some way.’ And we’re probably going to be announcing that tomorrow.” US officials “can say many things” but “the only one that really takes a decision is President Trump,” Joly said. Lutnick did have a call with Ontario Premier Doug Ford, according to sources who told the Globe and Mail that he had delivered a warning about ********* retaliation and what was seen as personal attacks against Trump. Earlier on Tuesday, ********* Prime Minister Justin Trudeau slammed Trump’s sweeping tariffs on his country, calling it a “very dumb thing to do” and vowed to conduct a “relentless fight” to protect its economy. Trudeau announced retaliatory tariffs on US exports and warned that a trade war would be costly for both countries. But Trump pushed even further in a post on his Truth Social platform, saying: “Please explain to Governor Trudeau, of Canada, that when he puts on a Retaliatory Tariff on the U.S., our Reciprocal Tariff will immediately increase by a like amount!” Trudeau accused the US president of planning “a total collapse of the ********* economy because that will make it easier to annex us”. “That is never going to happen. We will never be the 51st state,” he told reporters. Washington also ramped up its trade war with Beijing on Tuesday as a new 10% levy on ******** imports that came into effect – which adds to existing levies from Trump’s first term and those announced last month. “China will fight to the bitter end of any trade war,” a ******** foreign ministry spokesperson said after their country announced ****-for-tat tariffs on agricultural imports from the US. 19. Assassin’s Creed Shadows is Taking the Yakuza Route With Their Minigames But Needs to Avoid a Deadly Mistake Assassin’s Creed Shadows is Taking the Yakuza Route With Their Minigames But Needs to Avoid a Deadly Mistake Ever since Ubisoft gave us our first look at Assassin’s Creed Shadows, it’s been bashed left and right. There’s a lot of criticism surrounding Yasuke’s origins and Ubisoft’s constant recycling of the same Assassin’s Creed formula. Assassin’s Creed Shadows will be a make-or-break title for the French publisher. (Image via Ubisoft) From the early looks, it’s clear that Assassin’s Creed Shadows is looking to change things. Ubisoft is bringing tons of new gameplay mechanics to the title, including minigames. While they do sound interesting, minigames shouldn’t repeat the same mistakes as they did in Yakuza. Assassin’s Creed Shadows must be careful with minigames Minigames might prove to be a fun addition in Assassin’s Creed Shadows. (Image via Ubisoft) While chatting with YouTuber Genki Gamer, Shadows‘ creative director Jonathan Dumont opened up the various details and stats about the upcoming title. He revealed a number of interesting gameplay mechanics and features that were seen in trailers, such as grappling hooks, shadow stealth, spy networks, and many other things. However, the most interesting feature mentioned by Dumont is undoubtedly minigames. According to him, these will give gamers something called “knowledge points.” However, we weren’t told how they will play into the overall narrative of Shadows, and enhance the experience. I had the opportunity to interview Assassin’s Creed Shadows Creative Director Jonathan Dumont. Here are some of the key points: – Now was the right time for Japan because the team really wanted to do it and it was a dream for them. – Japan needed movement in the natural world… pic.twitter.com/oMkOnoor7u — Genki (@Genki_JPN) March 4, 2025 Clearly, knowledge points hold some ground in the Shadows‘ gameplay; otherwise, Ubisoft wouldn’t have bothered locking them behind minigames. It’s not the first time we’ve seen games doing this either as Yakuza was one of the first to explore this feature. Some of the best bits about Yakuza games came from minigames. These included things such as karaoke, baseball, and even golf. The developers absolutely nailed these tasks and gave us some unique ways to pass the time in the game. However, the core issue with minigames in Yakuza was that it led to players deviating from the main storyline. Some of them required too much time, exhausting players. Minigames are just an add-on to the overall experience; they shouldn’t be the main focus. Assassin’s Creed Shadows must make sure that locking knowledge points behind mini-games doesn’t lead to players investing hours into side content that doesn’t affect the main storyline. Otherwise, it will be a horrible experience. Assassin’s Creed Shadows is abandoning Steam Deck Assassin’s Creed Shadows won’t be a verified title for Steam Deck. (Image via Ubisoft) From everything we’ve seen so far, Assassin’s Creed Shadows looks to be the key to Ubisoft’s revival. However, the game has found itself in yet another controversy as it’s been revealed that it won’t be focusing on Steam Deck. In a Q&A session with fans, the French publisher confirmed that Shadows wouldn’t be compatible with Steam Deck. This is all due to the fact that the platform is below the minimum specs needed for a PC. However, Ubisoft does state that the game won’t be compatible “At Launch” which could mean that it will become a verified game down the line. If you’re someone who’s itching to play the latest Assassin’s Creed game on Valve’s handheld, it’s time to look at other platforms. Something to note here is that if Ubisoft believes that Shadows won’t be able to run on Steam Deck, the game will feature some massive technical upgrades. All the footage revealed so far looks stunning, and the game brings various features and technologies that have never been seen in the franchise before. With that said, are you excited about the minigames in Assassin’s Creed Shadows? Let us know in the comments below. 21. 2025 Leapmotor C10 REEV: Hybrid SUV lands in Australia with 1150km range 2025 Leapmotor C10 REEV: Hybrid SUV lands in Australia with 1150km range The Leapmotor C10 only recently arrived in Australia as an electric-only proposition, but the Stellantis-backed ******** electrification specialist is now launching a range-extender version from $45,900 drive-away. That means the 2025 Leapmotor C10 REEV, in showrooms this month, undercuts the equivalent C10 EV by $1600. It’s powered by a 158kW electric motor driving the front wheels hooked up to a 28.4kWh battery – less than half the capacity of the C10 EV’s 69.9kWh energy storage unit. The headline act here is the 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine under the bonnet, that acts as a range extender rather than driving the vehicle. Leapmotor quotes a combined driving range of up to 1150km on the more lenient NEDC test cycle, with fuel consumption and emissions rated at 0.9L/100km and 21g/km respectively. “The Leapmotor C10 REEV operates primarily as an electric vehicle, with the electric motor driving the wheels. When the battery charge gets low, the internal combustion engine (ICE) ignites to generate electricity, recharging the battery and extending the driving range,” Leapmotor says in its media release. Hundreds of new car deals are available through CarExpert right now. Get the experts on your side and score a great deal. Browse now. Camera IconOverseas model shown Credit: CarExpert Further to the on-board range extender, the C10 REEV retains its ability to be recharged via AC and DC charging methods, with the latter allowing for a 30-80 per cent charge in “approximately 18 minutes”. While the *********** release doesn’t quote a charging capacity, the previous global announcement noted a 65kW charge rate. The REEV’s lineup will effectively mirror that of the C10 EV, meaning Style and Design grades and a solid level of standard specification. Further, the C10 REEV is covered by the Leapmotor Care package that applies from MY25 (REEV and EV) models onward. This sees the new vehicle warranty reduced to six years/150,000km (from seven years/160,000km), but capped-price servicing and roadside assistance extended to eight years of coverage (from five). Jeholia longchengi was around 4 inches (10 cm) long and was a key species within the food chain of the Cretaceous ecosystem. | Credit: NIGPAS A known treasure trove of Early Cretaceous fossils has turned up a never-before-seen species of scorpion that lived around 125 million years ago. The venomous scorpion was larger than many ancient — and modern — scorpion species. Researchers believe it would’ve been a key species in the food chain, gobbling up spiders, lizards and even small mammals that lived in its ancient ecosystem. It is just the fourth terrestrial scorpion fossil to be found in China and the first Mesozoic-era scorpion fossil found in the country, researchers reported Jan. 24 in the journal Science Bulletin. Most scorpions from the Mesozoic era (252 million to 66 million years ago) are preserved in amber. Fossilized scorpions are much rarer because these arachnids live under rocks and branches, where they’re less likely to be trapped in sediment and fossilize, said study co-author Diying Huang, a researcher at the Nanjing Institute of Geology and Palaeontology in China. The scientists found the fossil in the Yixian Formation, a hotbed of Early Cretaceous fossils in northeastern China. The team named the new species Jeholia longchengi. “Jeholia” refers to the Jehol Biota, the ecosystem of northeast China in the Early Cretaceous about 133 million to 120 million years ago, and “longchengi” refers to the Longcheng district of Chaoyang, China, where the fossil currently resides. Fossilized scorpions are extremely rare. J. longchengi is only the fourth terrestrial species found in China. | Credit: NIGPAS J. longchengi was roughly 4 inches (10 centimeters) long, making it something of a giant of its time. “Other Mesozoic scorpions are much smaller, most of them less than half [the size] of the new species,” Huang told Live Science in an email. Related: What if a giant asteroid had not wiped out the dinosaurs? J. longchengi has a pentagonal body and rounded spiracles, which are the openings in its body that allowed it to breathe. These characteristics are similar to those found in some families of modern-day scorpions that inhabit other parts of Asia. But unlike those families, J. longchengi has fairly long legs and slim pedipalps, or pincers, that lack spurs along a segment called the patella. Larger mammals and dinosaurs may have preyed upon J. longchengi, while the scorpion’s diet may have included insects, spiders, frogs and even small lizards or mammals, the researchers wrote in the study. The scorpion’s mouthparts aren’t preserved in the fossil, though, so it’s hard to know for sure what they ate. Discoveries of additional fossil specimens could clear up the species’ role in the ecosystem and its place in the food web, the researchers wrote. “If placed in today’s environment, it might become a natural predator of many small animals, and could even hunt the young of small vertebrates,” Huang told China’s state run Xinhua news agency. The fossil is being stored at the Fossil Valley Museum in Chaoyang, China.
