  2. Google Updates Messages With Scam Message Detection, Adds Live Location Sharing to Find My on Android Google Updates Messages With Scam Message Detection, Adds Live Location Sharing to Find My on Android Google is introducing four new features on Android that are designed to protect users from scam messages, help them share their location securely, track prices while browsing the web, and stay entertained while their vehicle is parked. The company says that its new scam detection feature on Google Messages uses artificial intelligence (AI) to identify messages and shows users a real-time warning, and the detection is done privately, on the user’s smartphone. These features are expected to roll out to Android handsets in the coming weeks. Google Messages Updated With Real-Time AI-Powered Scam Detection The company says that the new AI-powered Scam Detection feature on Google Messages will rely on AI to identify text patterns that are typically used by scammers to show real-time alerts on a user’s smartphone. These alerts will include a message with the text “Likely Scam” and users will be presented with two buttons — Not a scam and Report & block. According to Google, the new Scam Detection feature is designed to identify messages from scammers looking to steal money from unsuspecting users. The processing of received messages in order to identify a suspected scam message is done on-device to protect user privacy, according to the company. Find My Now Supports Live Location Sharing The Find My Device app was designed to help users keep track of their smartphones, tablets, and other accessories, but Google is now expanding its functionality to allow live location sharing with trusted contacts. This functionality is currently available on Apple’s Find My app, which also shows the users’ locations on a map. Google says that users can set a specific duration while sharing their live location with a contact — options include an hour, a day, a custom duration, or indefinitely. The Find My Devices app will also show users the battery level of friends and family members who have opted to share their live location. Chrome for Android Introduces Price Tracking Feature Users who access shopping sites using Chrome for Android will soon see a new icon in the browser’s address bar while browsing the web. While there are several price tracker extensions for Chrome on macOS, Windows, and Linux, Google’s browser for Android doesn’t support these add-ons. The search giant has now built the functionality into the mobile version of Chrome. According to the company, users will see a new icon on the Chrome address bar that reveals when the price of a particular product has dropped. The browser will show users a chart that shows the price history of the product over the past couple of months. Users can also tap on the Track button to receive a notification when the price of the product drops. Google Brings More Games to Android Auto When a vehicle with Android Auto is parked, users will be able to play games to pass the time. Google will allow users to download games like Farm Heroes Saga, Candy Crush Soda Saga, Angry Birds 2 and Beach Buggy Racing on their smartphone, which will make it available on Android Auto. The company’s post suggests that these games will only be available when a vehicle is parked, in order to prevent users from getting distracted with these games in a running vehicle. All of the features listed above are expected to roll out to users in the coming weeks. If past releases are any indication, users should see a notification informing them of new features that are available on their smartphone. 5. Police Dog Stages Epic Breakfast Heist and Devours Partner’s Meal with Brazen Bliss Police Dog Stages Epic Breakfast Heist and Devours Partner’s Meal with Brazen Bliss Dogs are pros at seizing the day or at least a snack! They know how to turn free time into a play session and any crumb into a mission. Even the best-behaved pups can’t always ignore a tempting treat, especially when they know it’s off-limits. Take this police dog chilling with her partner on the job. She looked half-asleep, totally oblivious to his breakfast, until he stepped out. And that’s when she turned into the cutest little bandit! Watch her sneaky and hilarious heist in this video from February 27: It appears Maggie’s (@maggie_andovermasspd) relaxed vibe was all part of her gameplay. This sly pup from the Andover, Massachusetts, police department was totally playing it cool when the opportunity to grab breakfast presented itself. She may have looked like she was just napping, but the second her partner, Officer Paolera, stepped out and that door clicked shut, she was on it! It only took two heartbeats to sniff out the food and scarf it down like a competitive eating pro. Perhaps if the desk hadn’t blocked her exit, she could have gotten away with the heist, convincing her partner he had already finished his breakfast. But his speedy return dashed those dreams. While she may have been busted, you’ve got to admire this sneaky girl’s hustle. Related: Tiny Terrier Mix Rescue Celebrated as LA County Sheriff’s ‘Smallest’ Therapy Dog Maggie’s fans quickly rushed to her defense. One responded, “I mean… she had a hunch and followed her instincts. I see nothing wrong with it.” Ha! It’s a defense worth trying. Another responded, “They are a team. The dog was just mirroring Dad. I’m always on the doggy side.” A jury of her peers would not likely convict her. Viewer @thimble.weed remarked, “I love it when highly trained dogs are just as naughty as mine.” It makes us all feel a little better. What Is the Role of a Police Comfort Dog? Police comfort dogs, or therapy dogs, help first responders and community members deal with challenging circumstances. According to Freedom Service Dogs, therapy dogs work alongside their handler to help build rapport within the community and help bring comfort during difficult times. Just as our dogs do for us, they can support police officers who have experienced traumatic events and help boost morale. In addition to working with police departments, these trained therapy dogs work in fire stations, hospitals, schools, and assisted living facilities. With a dog like Maggie on the roster, there’s no doubt going to work in a very stressful environment is much easier to do. Even though Maggie may have misbehaved, it’s difficult to argue that she hasn’t fulfilled her role as a comfort dog. Her adorable morning antics certainly brought smiles to us all, even if they did cause her partner to scramble for an early lunch. 7. Patients face ‘degrading’ waits at Medway Maritime Hospital Patients face ‘degrading’ waits at Medway Maritime Hospital Patrick Barlow BBC News, South East Medway Maritime Hospital Medway Maritime Hospital in Gillingham has been rated “requires improvement” by the Care Quality Commission Frail patients at a Kent hospital emergency department were “told to soil themselves” because there was no one to take them to the toilet, staff have said. Patients at the Medway Maritime Hospital in Gillingham faced waits of more than 50 hours with no access to wash facilities, with some left “sitting in their own *******”, the Care Quality Commission (CQC) was told. An inspection by the CQC in February 2024 rated the emergency department as “requires improvement” and issued a warning notice for breaches of health and social care regulations. Jayne ******, chief executive of the Medway NHS Foundation Trust which runs the hospital, apologised to patients and said improvements had since been made. ‘Staff crying for help’ A CQC report published on 5 March described patients who said they saw staff “crying on the phone for help”, but “no one seemed to turn up”. In a visit on 21 February, 2024, inspectors said they found the emergency department “was not suitable for the number of people”, with 14 patients in a resuscitation area designed for nine people and 15 people being treated in the corridor of the department. One patient said they “had been left sitting in their own ******* all day because there was no one available to help”. PA Media Patients reported seeing staff “crying for help” in the hospital emergency department Another patient told inspectors they had been sitting on a chair in the corridor for 55 hours. When they asked staff if they could shower, they were told they could only wash by splashing themselves with water from the toilet sink. Inspectors also saw a patient “passing ****** into a bottle with no privacy curtains”. Some staff also described a “poor culture” and feared reprisals for raising concerns. Five staff told inspectors they had been threatened with disciplinary action or targeted for speaking up. Patients, relatives and staff contacted the CQC before the inspection to report how patients suffered “degrading experiences”. “Examples included frail patients who could not get up and take themselves to the toilet were left to soil themselves and left in soiled clothing and bedclothes for hours,” said the CQC. Staff also reported that “frail, bed-bound patients had been told to soil themselves because there were not enough staff to take them to the toilet”, it added. The CQC report rated the hospital’s emergency department as “requires improvement”, having previously rated it “good”. The hospital was “inadequate” for safety, the report found, but was rated “good” for being well led. ‘Much more to do’ Reacting to the inspection report, Ms ****** said: “We are very sorry that despite the best efforts of our hard-working staff, at the time of the last February’s inspection the inspection team found that our care fell below the standard that everyone should expect in their time of need. “Over the last year we have made significant improvements so that patients attending our Emergency Department are treated sooner, are cared for in areas more suitable for their needs, and receive appropriate and compassionate care. “We recognise there is much more for us to do, particularly to reduce delays for patients waiting to be admitted to a ward, so that every patient receives the high standard of care that we aspire to provide. “Staff throughout the hospital continue to work tirelessly, together with our ambulance, community and social care partners, to reduce delays and improve care for all for patients attending our Emergency Department.” Improvements highlighted by the trust included better waiting times and a new ward for patients with breathing and heart conditions, which opened in April 2024. 8. Tom Barrass reveals in Channel 7 documentary Full Sweat how hard it has been moving from West Coast Tom Barrass reveals in Channel 7 documentary Full Sweat how hard it has been moving from West Coast On the eve of his debut for Hawthorn former West Coast Eagle star Tom Barrass has opened on how he has struggled to adapt to Hokball. The 2018 Eagles flag winner, who requested a trade from Perth to Melbourne after a clandestine meeting with Hawthorn coach Sam Mitchell midway through last year, is a central character in Channel Seven’s new fly-on-the-wall documentary, Full Sweat. The documentary that follows the Hawks through their summer pre-season airs tonight at 9.30pm. Despite being considered one of the best defenders in the AFL the 29-year-old found it hard to adapt to the way Hawthorn structured its defence and how they trained. The Hawks lost both their pre-season games to Geelong and the Western Bulldogs and the pressure of expectation on the players for the 2025 season is ever-present throughout Full Sweat. “It’s been real eye opener watching myself in the team reviews and clips and myself wondering why am I doing that because it’s something I have trained into myself?” he says in Full Sweat. “I have had to re-learn this faculty of football which I had forgotten and it’s hard to get it straight away. “I’ve been second guessing myself if I am bringing value to the team. “There’s a few different things around the way I play that isn’t the way Hawthorn played.” The son of legendary WA journalist Tony Barrass speaks candidly in the show about a serious injury he suffered playing for West Coast changed his outlook on his career. “About two years ago I broke my spine playing footy against Richmond. One of my vertebrae was snapped. I started having some problems with my left arm especially,” he said. “We had two kids under two, Benson must have been three months old. It was a really tough time for our family and I think it shone a light on why I play the game. “It became clear to me family was my number one priority and so decided to take the trip across the country and finish off the last bit of my career in Melbourne. “I think Nadia knew I wasn’t satisfied in my life so she has been nothing but supportive. We got married a week ago and it was the most magical day for us.” Camera IconTom and Nadia Barrass were married last month. Credit: instagram/supplied And while Mitchell and Barrass played together at West Coast in 2017 and Mitchell went on to be part of the Eagles coaching staff that did not mean the Hawks coach would be cutting any corners for his former teammate. During one training session Mitchell remarks he liked the look of how Barrass was playing as he had “remembered how to play footy”. Barrass and Josh Battle (St Kilda) were recruited to beef up the Hawks defensive 50 as the club pushes to be considered real contenders in 2025. The Scarborough boy will have a tough baptism of fire for his new club when they take on Sydney on Friday night in the AFL season opener at the SCG. 9. Mach Industries, founded by 21-year-old Ethan Thornton, lands US Army contract, builds weapons factory Mach Industries, founded by 21-year-old Ethan Thornton, lands US Army contract, builds weapons factory Sequoia-backed Mach Industries, the defense tech founded by 21-year-old Ethan Thornton, landed a contract with the U.S. Army and has plans for its first factory, Thornton told TechCrunch. The factory will be 115,000 square feet in Huntington Beach, California, where Mach’s headquarters is located, CEO Thornton said. While that sounds like an expensive zip code for a weapons factory, Southern California — in the shadow of SpaceX — has become a hotspot for America’s burgeoning defense tech industry. Mach is also announcing it was selected by the Army Applications Laboratory to develop a vertical takeoff precision cruise missile it calls “Strategic Strike.” This was a developmental contract that was awarded in the third quarter of 2024. Thornton tells TechCrunch he and the U.S. Army are announcing this contract now because the technology successfully met its initial flight tests last month. As for the factory, that’s another area where defense tech companies like Mach, as well as Anduril, are trying to innovate. Mach’s factory, which it calls Forge 1, will be one of many “decentralized” factories the company plans to build. “Instead of very centralized factories, we will build many, many smaller factories to actually have a survival defense industrial base,” he explained. The factories will be designed to take raw materials through final assembly. In addition to other as-yet-to-be-determined sites in the U.S., he hopes to have international locations. The Huntington factory is already building both of the company’s main products, a weapon called Glide and a super-light jet-powered vertical takeoff and landing unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) called Viper. Viper is known for its completely vertical takeoffs, requiring no runway, and Mach says it is up to 300 times less expensive to build than traditional UAVs. “Viper is manufacturable in that decentralized sort of web of factories, and that’s a huge deal. You don’t require specialty tooling to make it, which means that if the U.S. has to ramp up production, we won’t rely on these centralized locations,” he said. Glide is a bomb deployed from a vehicle positioned at the edge of space. This is supposed to give Glide more range (Mach claims it will have infinite range to drop on targets anywhere on Earth) and also make it more difficult to shoot down. Thornton says this first factory should one day be able to produce 1,000 Vipers and 3,000 Glides a month. Mach Industries Strategic Strike vertical takeoff missle.Image Credits:Mach Industries Mach Industries is a buzzy defense tech startup because it was Sequoia’s first defense tech investment and also because Thornton was a teen when he founded the company. Story Continues He dropped out of MIT to work on Mach when he was just 19 and soon landed Sequoia’s Stephanie Zhan and Shaun Maguire as investors. They led Mach’s $5.7 million seed round announced in June 2023. A few months later, in October 2023, Geoff Lewis, founder of Bedrock Capital, led Mach’s $79 million Series A. While many of the defense tech industry’s founders are young (Palmer Luckey was in his mid-20s when he founded Anduril), the impetus for this company came when Thornton was still in high school. “Back in high school, I ran a wood and metal workshop to actually bootstrap the company and start making initial products. And then probably the highest risk thing I did, I dropped out of MIT — before we had capital, or before I had a team,” he said. Mach has since become one of the “it” companies in defense tech. For instance, it’s one of the handful of companies that famed former Palantir recruiter Peterson Conway works with. It now employs dozens. 17. ‘Truly Cinematic’ Moment Lost Dog is Found by Veteran Drone Team in Just 41 Minutes ‘Truly Cinematic’ Moment Lost Dog is Found by Veteran Drone Team in Just 41 Minutes A dog lost in Cherry Hill, New Jersey, was located in just 41 minutes on the evening of February 21 after the USAR Drone Team, a veteran-focused non-profit, came to the rescue through their use of advanced thermal imagery. The dog, Shade, had been missing for 27 hours and “spent an entire, freezing night out on his own” after “wiggling” free of his harness and running off, according to owner Gina Manfredi. With time ticking on, Manfredi decided she needed help to search the area from the sky, and called on the Jersey Shore-based USAR Drone Team. The crew of specialist drone pilots help people search for missing pets, and are aiming to expand their services through GoFundMe donations to help cover the cost of searches. Trusted news and daily delights, right in your inbox See for yourself — The Yodel is the go-to source for daily news, entertainment and feel-good stories. USAR’s drone crew joined the search for Shade after night had fallen over Cherry Hill, but by using specialized thermal imagery that allowed them to see Shade’s body as a white glow amid all the dark, the team was able to spot the lost dog, and direct Manfredi’s brother towards Shade’s location, all in under 41 minutes – a new record for the squad. Manfredi can be heard erupting with emotion as she realizes her beloved Shade was back in safe hands, crying “thank you so much!” to the team of rescuers. “When I spoke with Michael Parziale from USAR Drone Team Group, I immediately felt a sense of relief. His warm, caring voice gave me hope, and I knew right away that we were in good hands,” Manfredi said in a post on Facebook. “The moment of reunion – captured on camera with my brother and Shade – was truly cinematic,” she said. 20. Young Republicans cheer Trump on from Texas watch party Young Republicans cheer Trump on from Texas watch party It’s the first night of the Rodeo in Houston, Texas – usually an unmissable event in the city. But gathered at an Irish pub in the suburbs of the city are a group of young Republicans who don’t want to miss President Donald Trump’s prime-time address to Congress. About a dozen members of the party have piled into the back room of the pub while Fox News blares on surrounding TV screens. People have come out wearing red, white and blue, with flag pins and scarves to accessorise. Before the speech started, members of the club told me how excited they were to hear Trump’s policy proposals. If they had to give him a grade on the first 44 days in office, it was a unanimous “A+”. “He’s already surpassed all expectations,” one person told me. As the President took to the podium, the group chatter stopped, but the cheering and laughing did not. Sporting a Trump-Vance baseball cap, Evan Howard, 26, raised his glass every time the President said something he agreed with. And that was a lot. “He’s going to crack down on crime and be tough with cartels. He’ll stop a lot of American bloodshed,” he said. But Evan conceded that 44 days in, he’s not feeling the benefit of President Trump being back in office. At least, not yet, and he’s happy to wait. “I’m not too much better off, to be honest, but I like what he’s doing,” Evan said. “I see the work that’s being done, and I understand that some of these changes that he’s putting through are not going to go through right away, and that we will see their effects in the future.” Seated across from Evan was Brittany, who was far less expressive throughout the event than the rest of the table. A 31-year-old ****** woman, she’s new to the Republican Party. “I think he did great. I thought it was a very unifying message,” she said. “He pointed out a lot of things that the Democrats, who I used to feel really connected to at one point, have failed to press on.” “[The Democrats] tend to advocate for certain things that don’t really apply to Americans as a whole. Americans are struggling. You have issues with crime, you have people losing their home, you have people becoming homeless. And the liberals want to talk about pronouns.” Mentions of pronouns, gender, and “wokeness” garnered a lot of cheers and claps from the crowd on Tuesday night. The boos came every time the cameras panned to Nancy Pelosi, or Democrats holding signs in the crowd, or any lawmaker looking sleepy in the crowd. The only feedback for President Trump tonight? Maybe talk about Joe Biden a little less. But otherwise, the parting message from this group is: promises made and promises kept. 22. NBA: LeBron James is first player to surpass 50,000 points in Los Angeles Lakers win over New Orleans Pelicans NBA: LeBron James is first player to surpass 50,000 points in Los Angeles Lakers win over New Orleans Pelicans LeBron James became the first player in NBA history to score 50,000 combined points as he helped the Los Angeles Lakers to victory over the New Orleans Pelicans. The 40-year-old American surpassed the mark early in the first quarter of his side’s 136-115 win, gathering a pass from Luka Doncic and sinking a sublime 25-foot three-pointer. James – the leading scorer in the competition’s history – finished the match on 34 points to take his career total to 60,149 which is 6,000 clear of second-placed Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. James’ total is made up of a record 41,871 regular season points, adding to his 8,162 postseason haul, where he is also the NBA’s leading scorer. “I’m not going to sugar-coat it – it’s a hell of a lot of points,” said James. “I’m super blessed to be able to put up that many points in my career in the best league in the world and against the best players in the world – it’s pretty special.” James reached the milestone deep into his 22nd season, which ties him with Vince Carter for the most played in NBA history. He was helped by Doncic’s 30 points, 15 assists and eight rebounds, as the Lakers won their seventh game in a row to climb to second in the Western Conference standings. Lakers legend Earvin Magic Johnson led the tributes to James on social media following the achievement. “Congratulations to the King LeBron James for becoming the only player in NBA history to score 50,000 regular season and playoff points!” Johnson wrote on X. Earlier on Tuesday, James was also named the NBA’s Western Conference Player of the Month after he averaged 29.3 points, 10.5 rebounds and 6.9 assists last month, becoming the oldest player to earn the award. Pokemon Go will debut Nickit the Fox Pokémon soon in the Deep Depths event Pokemon Go will debut Nickit the Fox Pokémon soon in the Deep Depths event Hatch Shiny Clauncher from March 19th to the 24th Nickit and Thievul join the fray Event-themed Field Research rewards up for grabs There seems to be no stopping Niantic from adding update after update within Pokemon Go, as we now have the Deep Depths event to look forward to as March trickles in. In particular, from March 19th to the 24th, there’s an increased chance for you to hatch Shiny Clauncher or encounter it in the wild – you’ll also only need ½ the Egg Hatch Distance when using Incubators throughout the event. That seems to be more than enough reason to dive in, especially if you’re feeling a little forgiving on your step counter. The upcoming update will also welcome Nickit the Fox Pokémon to the fray along with its Evolution, Thievul – all you need is 50 Nickit Candy to make that evolution happen. As for wild encounters, Murkrow, Sneasel, and Corphish will pop up more often, along with Clamperl, Purrloin, Female Frillish and Clauncher – plus their Shiny variants might just appear too if the RNG gods are in your favour. As always, event-themed Field Research goodies will be up for grabs as well, with a free Timed Research that will put 10 Kubfu Candy, One Mysterious Component and more up for grabs. You can read all about the nitty-gritty on the official blog post. And speaking of goodies, why not take a look at our list of Pokemon Go codes to get your fill? Seemed like this was cancelled. Would like to see them improve the map creator in this one to allow leaderboards and a timer. They only allowed free roam in Pro Skater 1+2 on the user created maps so it limited how much fun you can realistically have with it. Cross play would be good so the user created content is shared between all versions. Even the PS5 and PS4 versions were separate from each other.
