  1. This web hosting platform elevates your online presence This web hosting platform elevates your online presence Today’s digital media landscape is shifting. In the early days of the internet, it was the wild west, with everybody heading out to establish their own piece of the web with personalized websites. Those fell to the wayside when social media took over, giving everybody generic profiles but bolstering connectivity and reach. However, as social media becomes less reliable for sharing your thoughts, building your brand, or growing your online business, having your own website is more important than ever. That’s where WordPress.com comes in. (Image credit: WordPress.com) WordPress.com is a platform specifically designed to host websites built on WordPress, an open-source content management system that has revolutionized how personal and professional websites are built. Supported by thousands of independent contributors and further bolstered by plugins and third-party themes, WordPress is easily configurable to work for a multitude of website purposes. WordPress.com’s fast and secure managed hosting is designed to give your site the best performance and reliability. Website hosting can be a surprisingly individualized need. Whether you’re looking to highlight a personal portfolio and get more eyes on your work or launching an online store to sell your crafted wares, WordPress.com easily handles whatever kind of website you throw at it. (Image credit: WordPress.com) So you build a site, you’re gaining traffic, and – uh oh! You’ve gone viral. There’s a significant uptick in new visitors to your site. Other website hosts can crumble under the weight of a successful, high-traffic website. They may jack up your hosting rates or temporarily disable your site to compensate for the higher bandwidth demand. Rest easy knowing your site is backed by WordPress.com’s 99.999% uptime, plus unlimited bandwidth and traffic. No surprise fees—just smooth sailing, no matter how big you grow. (Image credit: WordPress.com) Building a website is easy, but maintaining one can seem incredibly daunting. What if there is a DDoS attack? Who do you call if there is malware, or if you accidentally delete your entire site? Good news: WordPress.com has an expert support team who are ready to help when you need it most. There’s no need to stress about middle-of-the-night backups or WAF protection when WordPress.com’s Happiness Engineers are on standby 24/7 to protect your website and keep things running smoothly. WordPress.com’s hosting plans are unlimited, unmetered, and include everything you need – a 28+ location custom-built CDN, burst scaling, free SSL, edge caching, scalable PHP workers, and automated data center failover – to stay reliably online and lightning fast. Say goodbye to fickle social media platforms that can throttle your visibility or go offline unexpectedly, and stay connected by hosting your website on WordPress.com. 2. God Was Exalted’: 4,500 Students Seek Jesus at Purdue University, Thousands Saved God Was Exalted’: 4,500 Students Seek Jesus at Purdue University, Thousands Saved Thousands of college students are giving Jesus their “Yes” once again after making decisions to accept Christ as their Savior, a college campus ministry reports. The third UniteUS event of 2025 took place at Purdue University Wednesday night and more than 4,500 students gathered to hear the gospel and be transformed. The founder and visionary behind UniteUS, Tonya Prewett, summed up what took place saying, “God was exalted at Purdue University!!” By the end of the night, nearly half of those who attended confessed Jesus as the Savior and some took part in water baptisms afterward. “From the moment we stepped on campus we knew God was going to move in a special way tonight,” the group wrote on Instagram. “4,500 students gathered in Elliott Hall of Music and we were blown away seeing how the students leaned in during worship. We still can’t get over seeing nearly half the students in attendance flood the altar to give Jesus their ‘yes,'” the post continued. UniteUS is a ministry that’s been making waves on college campuses across the country for several years now. At the start of the year, 8,000 students gathered at the University of Kentucky’s Rupp Arena to worship Jesus and hear a powerful message on the Gospel. Then, an Ohio State revival event saw 6,500 students gather in The Schott where almost 2,000 attendees responded to the altar call. During the outreaches, Prewett is often joined by Pastor Jonathan Pokluda and founder of the IF:Gathering, Jennie Allen. Pokluda previously told CBN News many students are coming to these gatherings ready to shed their past mistakes. “They’re coming in with guilt and shame. STDs, unwanted pregnancies, abortions,” Pokluda said. “And they come here and we’re showing them the one—the only one—who can really deal with their sin, is Jesus Christ.” UniteUS was birthed out of a desire to “lift the name of Jesus,” and it gained rapid momentum after its initial outreach at Auburn University’s Neville Arena in September 2023 where 5,000 students showed up to worship Jesus and 200 were spontaneously baptized in a nearby lake. The evangelistic college campus movement is marked by salvations, water baptisms, and worship, and it’s beginning to garner national attention, but Prewett says it is all about sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ. She told CBN News last year that it is truly “a move of God.” “I’m not capable of doing this, we’re not capable of doing this, it’s the hand of God. It’s way ******* than us,” Prewett explained. After their first outreach this year, Allen commented, “It’s hard to believe. This keeps happening. It is insane.” And the same rang true last night after another massive response. Students joined Allen as she baptized dozens in tubs. “Thousands came forward to receive Christ,” she said in a social media post Thursday morning. “They want God everywhere we go.” Purdue sophomore, Anna Suppes, is a part of the planning team and told Fox59 that the movement on campus began with prayer. “It started with five people praying and it grew to 200,” she shared. Tre Henson told the outlet he hopes this movement sparks a lasting change on Purdue’s campus. “Purdue is a very academic campus and it is very easy for people to feel lonely or anxious. So we are trying to plug people into the community and let them know that they are seen and loved. And also spread the gospel and the truth,” he explained. The next UniteUS outreach will be held at West Virginia University on March 11. Since September of 2023, the ministry’s events have reached more than 100,000 college students across multiple campuses. ***Please sign up for CBN Newsletters and download the CBN News app to ensure you keep receiving the latest news from a distinctly Christian perspective.***   Source link #God #Exalted #Students #Seek #Jesus #Purdue #University #Thousands #Saved Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content] For verified travel tips and real support, visit: [Hidden Content]
  3. All Split Fiction Side Stories And Locations All Split Fiction Side Stories And Locations Split Fiction has 12 side stories to discover. These are anomalies that occur in the world as a result of Mio and Zoe entering the same simulation. Razer tries to steal unfinished stories and ideas from the girls, and as such, there are some very weird occurrences going on. Finding and experiencing side stories is a vital part of your Split Fiction experience, and you’ll even get an achievement if you manage to find them all. They’re split up by level, so we’ve detailed where they are and what happens during them. Almost all of them are easy to find, so we won’t focus too much on location beyond which level they’re in. If they’re trickier to find, we’ll provide more information on where they are. Mountain Hike side story location Neon Revenge The Legend of the Sandfish The Legend of the Sandfish sees Mio and Zoe enter a sand-filled world where they have to dodge, dash, and work together to escape the sandfish. You’ll need to think about timing and plan your routes, and at one point, you’ll even find yourself on the back of a sandfish. Farmlife One of the funniest side stories in the game, Farmlife sees Mio and Zoe transform into pigs. Cute, right? Wrong! Eventually, Mio and Zoe will become sausages. No happy ending for pigs in this story. Mountain Hike This is one of the trickier side stories to locate. When you find an area that you’ll need to interact with some portable toilets, pause. Mio will need to enter the toilet, and Zoe needs to use her grab skill to pick it up and throw it at the ladder hanging from the roof to the left. This will drop the ladder down, revealing the path to the side story. It can also be easy to miss as it doesn’t have the audio cue that other side stories have. When you do find it, it’s totally worth it. Mio and Zoe will spend some time traversing a mountain, trying to dodge the footsteps and wrath of giants. Exploding Star side story Hopes of Spring Train Heist Train Heist is less of a heist and more of a chase, with Mio and Zoe returning to some side-scrolling action, fighting The Conductor, a large orb-like boss who isn’t super happy about them being there. Gameshow This was one of the tricker side stories we experienced, as you’re at the mercy of a deranged robot gameshow host who insists on creating entertainment out of forcing Mio and Zoe to handle ticking bombs. Each bomb can only remain in your hands for a few seconds before you need to pass it to your partner. The arena gets more complex each time, with fire, electricity, and disappearing platforms adding additional danger. Collapsing Star During this side story, Mio and Zoe find themselves staring into the sun, quite literally. The sun is dying, and as it does it sends lethal waves of light through the world. You’ll need to find areas to hide behind. A huge tip for the end of the story is Mio and Zoe should use one shield to cover them both, and alternate between whose shield to use. If you try to complete this side story just using your own shield to protect yourself, you’ll never escape the collapse of the sun. Kites Side Story Final Dawn Kites This side story is a race between Mio and Zoe as they traverse the skies via tunnels, kites, and wind sockets. Who will win? It can be tricky to aim for the circles that give you a boost through the air, and if you miss one you’ll fall to your death. Our tip is to not move the camera angle as it quickly becomes disorienting. Moon Market It’s time to rescue some cats! Mio and Zoe have a total of four cats to rescue in order to open some gates that reveal the path forward. When you get the Moon Market itself, make sure to interact with the many elements around the town square, especially the potions. Notebook This beautiful sketched art level sees Mio and Zoe on a quest to rescue a prince. It’s easily located within the Factory level, as Zoe will point it out with an audio cue. As you traverse the level, Zoe will rewrite the story, and areas of the level will appear, disappear, and be modified. Birthday Cake Rise of the Dragon Realm Slopes of War This is one of the most fun side stories in Split Fiction. Remember the SSX games? This is Split Fiction’s version of those. Mio and Zoe take to futuristic snowboards, with the goal of racking up the best score possible. Space Escape Mio and Zoe face the challenge of running out of oxygen in space. The grappling hook mechanic from earlier in the game returns with a twist as the two wrestle with zero gravity. There isn’t a time limit, despite the fact Mio encourages Zoe to work as quickly as she can, but if you take too long the gravity meter will deplete so it’s best to hurry along anyway. Make sure you work with your co-op partner to find oxygen tanks before it’s too late. Birthday Cake One of Mio’s rare ‘fun’ side stories, she wrote this when she was younger. You’ll control teeth that need to find their way through the level via bright cartoon platforming sections. Eventually, after lighting the candles on the birthday cake, you’ll end up in a dentist’s office trying to survive. Now that you’ve ticked off all of the side stories, why not check out how to hatch the Underlands bird egg, or how to get through the piranha-infested waters, in case you’re having trouble. 4. Fiji-born legend Tuqiri slams Super Rugby’s Drua fiasco Fiji-born legend Tuqiri slams Super Rugby’s Drua fiasco Lote Tuqiri has slammed Super Rugby Pacific’s “unacceptable” mistreatment of the travelling Fijian Drua and hopes such a “ridiculous” turn of events never happens again. The Fiji-born legend and dual *********** international also took aim at New Zealand’s “lack of hospitality” after learning the Drua were forced out of their hotel room in Napier, with nowhere to go and rest, several hours before playing the well-accommodated Hurricanes in round two a fortnight ago. But Tuqiri’s biggest beef is how officials, in this day and age, could have not organised better transport for a professional rugby team than on the Friday night horror show on February 21. Having landed in New Zealand just before midnight, 16 hours before kick-off against the Hurricanes in a location several hours’ drive away, the Drua squad could not locate the bus booked by Super Rugby organisers to transport them to their hotel. After discovering the bus company’s apparent mistake, the Fijian outfit reportedly piled into the back of a truck booked to transport the team’s luggage and equipment. “It’s ridiculous,” Tuqiri told AAP. “You’d think the organisers would have it sorted, given how old the competition is. It’s not like a new competition. “It was probably not meant but, I mean, it’s actually unacceptable.” Even after finally arriving at a hotel they had to share with the Hurricanes, the Drua players and staff were told they could not get a late check-out like their hosts enjoyed, before the 4pm kick-off on Saturday. “You can’t expect a team to be treated that way,” Tuqiri said. “They’re not an under-11s or under-12s team who have put funds together (for a junior road-trip). “They’re a professional outfit and they should be treated accordingly.” Compounding the Drua’s frustration, they lost on the buzzer 38-34, having also let a late lead slip in round one at home against the ACT Brumbies. “I don’t think we got all the favours landing in Wellington. We didn’t have a bus ready, unfortunately, and then even when we got to the hotel in Napier, we didn’t have a room ready,” Drua coach Glen Jackson lamented. “So there were plenty of things that went against us.” Then, after a six-day turnaround, the travel-weary Drua also blew a late lead against the NSW Waratahs in Sydney last Friday night. Tuqiri, a 2003 Wallabies World Cup finalist and dual NRL premiership winner with Brisbane and South Sydney, said losing three straight tight contests against Super Rugby heavyweights was tough. But the proud Fijian *********** considers the treatment in New Zealand even tougher to ********. “To be fair, I’m actually a little bit surprised at the New Zealanders’ lack of hospitality,” Tuqiri said. “In the sense that they (Fiji and NZ) are close neighbours. “Obviously the hotel was booked out and there were things going on that you can’t control, but I think those sort of things you can (find a solution to). “You can’t have blokes walking around on game day, sitting in parks, lying down in the lobby and this, that and the other. “It’s an unfair playing field. Getting in at 12 at night, the bus not being there … it’s just ridiculous. It surely can’t happen again. “I’m sure it’s probably happened before but things have probably been put into place since. “I don’t know the ins and outs of it but this shouldn’t be happening from a professional standpoint. “The competition has been running now for 30-odd years.” Source link #Fijiborn #legend #Tuqiri #slams #Super #Rugbys #Drua #fiasco Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content] For verified travel tips and real support, visit: [Hidden Content]

  6. Russia files lawsuit against US-based owner of seized canned food maker Russia files lawsuit against US-based owner of seized canned food maker (Reuters) -Russian prosecutors have filed a lawsuit against the U.S. owner of canned food maker Glavprodukt, which was seized by Moscow in October, accusing him of illegally withdrawing around $15.5 million from Russia over the last two years, the RBC news outlet reported. Russian President Vladimir Putin decreed in October 2024 that Glavprodukt and other assets ultimately owned by U.S. company Universal Beverage and Leonid Smirnov be placed under the “temporary management” of the Russian state, giving Moscow control over the running of the business. The General Prosecutor’s lawsuit, filed on March 5, contained no details, beyond naming the defendants as Smirnov, who is a U.S. citizen, Universal Beverages and other companies. Trusted news and daily delights, right in your inbox See for yourself — The Yodel is the go-to source for daily news, entertainment and feel-good stories. Glavprodukt is a subsidiary of Universal Beverages, which is owned by Smirnov. The RBC business daily, citing unnamed sources, said the lawsuit was based on the allegation that Smirnov and the foreign companies controlled by him had moved around 1.38 billion roubles ($15.46 million) out of Russia from 2022 to 2024. Smirnov said in a statement to Reuters via a representative that he saw the lawsuit as part of a “Russian-style corporate raid” to steal his company and that prosecutors have sought to pressure him and his employees on multiple occasions to stop fighting against the state’s takeover of Glavprodukt’s management. He wants the U.S. government to ensure that American-owned businesses in Russia are protected, he said. Smirnov previously told Reuters that he had completely lost control of Glavprodukt, the largest maker of canned food in Russia, since the seizure, and accused the new bosses of presiding over a drop in sales. RBC cited a source as saying that Smirnov had sought to block the Russian state’s takeover of the management of his company and had issued written instructions to employees not to cooperate with Rosimushchestvo, the federal property management agency. 10. Trump Suspends Tariffs on Mexico for a Month Trump Suspends Tariffs on Mexico for a Month President Trump said Thursday that he would offer a one-month exemption from tariffs for imports from Mexico that trade under the rules of U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement, the trade pact Mr. Trump signed in his first term. The president wrote on Truth Social that he would give ******** products an exemption until April 2 from the 25 percent tariffs that he levied on all products from Mexico and most goods from Canada earlier this week. The exemption would cover the vast majority of North American trade and follows days of turmoil in the stock markets. “After speaking with President Claudia Sheinbaum of Mexico, I have agreed that Mexico will not be required to pay Tariffs on anything that falls under the USMCA Agreement,” he wrote. “Our relationship has been a very good one, and we are working hard, together, on the Border, both in terms of stopping ******** Aliens from entering the United States and, likewise, stopping Fentanyl,” he added. Howard Lutnick, the commerce secretary, made similar comments on Thursday morning, saying that the president would most likely exempt all products that trade under U.S.M.C.A. Mr. Trump’s announcement did not describe any exemption for ********* goods. Stocks nudged higher after Mr. Lutnick spoke but remained lower for the day, with the S&P 500 down roughly 1 percent. The change would significantly expand a one-month exception Mr. Trump offered yesterday to automakers who import goods under the rules of the pact, which fell short of investors hopes for reprieve. Both Mr. Trump and Mr. Lutnick have implied that any relief from tariffs could be short-lived, since the administration is considering another raft of levies next month. The president has said he will announce “reciprocal” tariffs on April 2, which will raise U.S. tariffs to match the levels set by other countries, while also taking into consideration other practices that affect trade, like taxes and currency. “My expectation is the president will come to the agreement today, and hopefully we will announce this today, that U.S.M.C.A.-compliant goods will not have a tariff for the next month, until April 2,” Mr. Lutnick said. Mr. Trump signed U.S.M.C.A. in 2020 to replace and revise the North American Free Trade Agreement. 11. Oops, I fell in love with an archdemon Oops, I fell in love with an archdemon To view this content, you’ll need to update your privacy settings. Please click here and view the “Content and social-media partners” setting to do so. Everything about Sorry We’re Closed sets my little punk heart ablaze, from its low-poly 3D graphics and , to its casually epic storyline starring heartbroken club kids and horny demons. Sorry We’re Closed takes place around a bustling city of neon-splattered nightmares, and if I could, I’d move there immediately. Michelle, an existentially lost and effortlessly cool twenty-something, is introduced to the spiritual world by The Duchess, an archdemon with thigh-high boots and a threatening allure. Michelle is marked as The Duchess’ love interest and cursed with a powerful Third Eye. The Duchess is cruel and desperate for love, and Michelle — still reeling from a breakup that rocked her world three years ago — has a limited amount of time to discover why she’s been chosen and how to escape the curse with her life intact. The characters in Sorry We’re Closed are raw, funny and authentic, and their relationships are relatably messy. There’s Oakley, the diner owner; Marty, the record shop manager; Clarissa, the dancer; Robyn, the local adventurer; Darrel, Oakley’s boyfriend and resident douchebag; and of course a cast of otherworldly beings. I feel like I know some of these people in my real life, and as for the rest, I’d love to meet them and help them chase their weird fantasies. Everything in this game is super stylish, from the blocky 3D avatars to the detailed, painterly icons that accompany their dialogue boxes. The city is populated by a diverse blend of genders and sexualities, and it feels both perfectly natural and deeply welcoming, like a stunning fever dream of what could be if The Gay Agenda finally got its way. Again, it’s a world I’d love to live in. Akupara Games Michelle spends her time exploring the underworld and chasing the ghosts of The Duchess’ former victims — er, lovers — while gathering the strength to fight the archdemon head-on. There are four different endings in Sorry We’re Closed, and your decisions to help or hinder your friends will determine how things shake out in a tangible way. Many of the demons and angels in this world have sadistic streaks, and there are multiple scenes of bloody dismemberment and extreme body horror along Michelle’s journey. Choose your path forward wisely. The game plays out in a fixed-camera perspective for exploration scenes, and switches to a dual-stick, first-person view for combat. Using a DualSense controller, you enter first-person view by holding down LT, and then shoot or swing with RT, using the right stick to aim. Michelle ends up with three weapons: a wolf-faced axe, a pistol and a shotgun. She also gets a powerful Heartbreaker attack, which builds up as she does damage and eventually allows her to unleash a devastating shot directly at an enemy’s heart. Collecting ammo and health is a constant task in Sorry We’re Closed, and first-person view is useful here, allowing Michelle to break and loot vases. Akupara Games Transitioning between third and first person feels nice and smooth, and the game does a great job of infusing classic Resident Evil-style gameplay with modern sensibilities. When it’s engaged, Michelle’s Third Eye lets her see and interact with an alternate reality, which appears in a circular pool around her. Demons that get caught in the Third Eye are briefly stunned, and their weak points become visible as stained-glass hearts. You’re only able to shoot weak points when Third Eye is engaged, but you can drop it at any time to attack with impunity. The length of the Third Eye stun can be extended by spending yowzas, the game’s currency, at the shop, which is run by a floating goat head. There are other basic upgrades for ammo and health capacities, which Michelle carries in the form of water bottles. As Michelle travels deeper into The Duchess’ dimension, the environments become more M.C. Escher-like, and there are a series of puzzles to solve when you’re not actively battling demons. There’s nothing too tricky here, but there are little fetch quests and physical riddles to solve, and the reality-shifting mechanic of Michelle’s Third Eye keeps things interesting. There’s a perfect amount of variety in this game, with plenty of space to mess around with each new idea. Akupara Games I adore the way Sorry We’re Closed plays with perspective. It has standard top-down scenes, sure, but there are also cinematic shots peeking through the gaps in a chandelier, wide angles that show off the scale of some environments, head-on running scenes, and instances of beautiful but impossible physics, especially when The Duchess is involved. In case you couldn’t tell, I kind of fell in love with The Duchess, even though I know they would destroy me. Maybe because of that, even. Sorry We’re Closed is campy, relatable, gruesome and gorgeous. You could say the same about The Duchess. With today’s console launch, all versions of the game are getting rebalanced combat areas, improved controller sensitivity, aim assist options, fresh difficulties, a Time Attack mode and New Game+. Sorry We’re Closed is now available on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S, and there’s a premium physical edition for Switch and PS5 due out later this year, available to . Sorry We’re Closed is the debut title from à la mode games, a two-person team based in Bournemouth, ***, and it’s published by Akupara Games. 14. Trump announces month-long suspension of Mexico tariffs Trump announces month-long suspension of Mexico tariffs Getty Images US President Donald Trump has said Mexico will not be required to pay tariffs on goods that come under the trade pact between the two countries and Canada until 2 April. Trump has not confirmed if the suspension also applies to Canada, but Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick said earlier on Thursday he was hopeful the reprieve would apply to both of America’s neighbours. The latest move is the second climbdown in two days from Trump on his tariffs. On Wednesday he said he would temporarily spare carmakers from 25% import taxes just a day after they came into effect. Lutnick told CNBC the temporary exemption of tariffs for car part imports from Canada and Mexico could be extended to all products that are part of the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA). The USMCA was established during Trump’s first term of office. Its 34 chapters covered cars, dairy and lumber amongst other things, and the agreement included a review every six years. On Thursday, Trump wrote on Truth Social that Mexico would be exempt until 2 April. “After speaking with President Claudia Sheinbaum of Mexico, I have agreed that Mexico will not be required to pay Tariffs on anything that falls under the USMCA Agreement,” he said. 16. Shabana Mahmood threatens law change after ‘two-tier’ row Shabana Mahmood threatens law change after ‘two-tier’ row Kate Whannel Political reporter PA Media Justice Secretary Shabana Mahmood has told the Sentencing Council she will review its powers and “legislate, if necessary”, following a row over its new guidance on sending people to jail. The changes, which are due to come into force in England and Wales next month, would make the ethnicity or faith of an offender a ******* factor when deciding whether to jail them. Ministers do not have the power to overturn the guidance, but in a letter Mahmood urged the council’s chairman to reconsider “as soon as possible”. Conservative shadow justice secretary Robert Jenrick said the new rules were “anti-white” and “anti-Christian” and amounted to “two-tier justice”. In a post on social media, he said that if the government did not act he would challenge the rules in court. The Sentencing Council said the guidance would ensure courts had the “most comprehensive information available” to hand out an appropriate sentence and could address disadvantages faced within the criminal justice system. Official figures show that offenders from ethnic minorities consistently get longer sentences than white offenders for indictable offences. Writing to Lord Justice William Davis, chairman of the Sentencing Council, Mahmood said she wanted to “make clear my displeasure” at the changes. “As someone who is from an ethnic ********* background myself, I do not stand for any differential treatment before the law,” she wrote. She said she would be “considering whether policy decisions of such import should be made by the Sentencing Council”. A review of the council’s role and powers will now take place alongside the existing review into sentencing being led by former Tory minister David Gauke. Mahmood concluded her letter by warning the council that following the review she would “legislate if necessary”. Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer – who previously sat on the Sentencing Council when he was director of public prosecutions – said he was “concerned” by the guidance. The new sentencing guidance puts a greater emphasis on the need for pre-sentence reports for judges. Pre-sentence reports give judges details on the offender’s background, motives and personal life before sentencing – then recommend a punishment and what would work best for rehabilitation. But over recent years their use has decreased. Magistrates and judges will be advised to get a pre-sentence report before handing out punishment for someone of an ethnic or faith ********* – alongside other groups such as young adults, abuse survivors and pregnant women. These factors are not an exhaustive list, the council said. A pre-sentence report can still be necessary if an individual does not fall into one of these cohorts. The previous Conservative government was consulted on the changes when the council was considering reforms between November 2023 and February 2024. Asked why the government had not objected to the changes then, Jenrick said “there was no direction or requirement by government” for the council to investigate the issue. He added that the justice secretary at the time, Alex Chalk, had labelled the idea “ridiculous and patronising”. Mark Daly from the Prison Reform Trust said there were “very good reasons” for the changes. Speaking to Radio 4’s The World Tonight, he said it was “simply reflecting the fact that if we look at outcomes from sentencing, there is disproportionality”. “So we know already that if you are from a ********* ethnic background you are more likely to receive a custodial sentence for an equivalent offence, particularly for certain types of offences such as drug offences, than you would if you were white.” Source link #Shabana #Mahmood #threatens #law #change #twotier #row Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content]

  18. Unlike Google Search, privacy-focused DuckDuckGo takes it slow with AI Unlike Google Search, privacy-focused DuckDuckGo takes it slow with AI Undoubtedly, AI will significantly impact areas like search in the coming years. However, the speed at which this integration should occur is debatable. Industry leader Google is fully committed to incorporating AI into all its search tools, while privacy-focused DuckDuckGo allows users to decide how far into AI they want to go. This flexibility could score DuckDuckGO major points in a world where not everyone is prepared to embrace AI — at least not yet fully. According to a recent report by The Verge, DuckDuckGo has ambitious plans to incorporate AI into its popular search engine. As a result, users will soon see AI-generated answers for specific queries on the DuckDuckGo website and the app. Additionally, the company is integrating web search capabilities within its AI chatbot. Both of these tools are now exiting their beta phase. DuckDuckGo introduced its AI-assisted answers, known as DuckAssist, in 2023. The company initially emphasized that this tool aims to be a “less obnoxious” alternative to features like Google’s AI Overviews. The result is a service that provides more concise responses while allowing users to control how often they see AI-generated results. Even more impressively, DuckDuckGo offers the option to disable these responses altogether. In the current version of the DuckDuckGo app, you can choose to use Assist, Sometimes, On-demand, Often, or Never. Sometimes only shows AI-assisted answers when highly relevant, while On-demand only shows AI-assisted answers if you click the Assist button. When set to the Often setting, AI-assisted answers frequently appear on a broader range of searches. Just how frequently? Gabriel Weinberg, the CEO and founder of DuckDuckGo, says only 20% of searches are currently AI-generated, although that is expected to rise over time. They explain: “We’d like to raise that over time … That’s another major area that we’re working on … We want to kind of stay conservative with it. We don’t want to put it in front of people if we don’t think it’s right.” Even while implementing AI, DuckDuckGo hasn’t forgotten its privacy roots. Interactions with AI models are done anonymously every time by hiding your IP address, regardless of the model you choose. DuckDuckGo’s agreements with the AI company behind each available model also guarantee that your data isn’t used for training. Currently, you can toggle between GPT-4o mini, o3-mini, Llama 3.3, Mistral Small 3, and Claude 3 Haiku. DuckDuckGo’s AI tools can be explored via its chatbot on the Duck.ai website or through the DuckDuckGo browser. Additionally, AI-assisted answers will appear in the DuckDuckGo search engine. DuckDuckGo AI settings DuckDuckGo What about Google? If you’re using Google Search, the most popular search tool in the world, it’s essential to understand that entirely opting out of all of Google’s AI search features isn’t straightforward. However, there are ways to minimize or bypass the AI Overviews feature. For instance, many of these features are still considered experimental, making it somewhat easier to disable them. Additionally, third parties have discovered workarounds, although many of these are hit-or-miss. Ultimately, it’s important to recognize that Google’s AI Overviews are becoming integral to the overall Google Search experience, for better or worse. Many people will be pleased to know that DuckDuckGo is taking AI seriously and integrating it into its various search products. However, the company recognizes that not everyone wants to use AI. Opting out of AI features is a simple process for those users. That option is also available for those who wish to experience AI search in small doses. The announcement did not mention Canada, which is also facing sweeping tariffs on all goods entering the U.S. It came shortly after Trump levelled new attacks against Prime Minister Justin Trudeau following a heated exchange Wednesday. “After speaking with President Claudia Sheinbaum of Mexico, I have agreed that Mexico will not be required to pay Tariffs on anything that falls under the USMCA Agreement,” Trump wrote on Truth Social following a scheduled call between the two leaders. “This Agreement is until April 2nd. I did this as an accommodation, and out of respect for, President Sheinbaum.” The post cited the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) that Trump negotiated with the two countries during his first term in 2018, which is referred to as CUSMA in Canada. Trump’s announcement comes after his Commerce Secretary, Howard Lutnick, told CNBC that tariffs on both Canada and Mexico would “likely” be delayed. But Trump did not mention Canada in his announcement. Hours earlier, he accused Trudeau of “using the Tariff problem, which he has largely caused, in order to run again for Prime Minister.” Trudeau is set to resign after a new Liberal leader is voted on by the party on Sunday. Thursday marked the second time this week that Trump has announced an exemption to the Canada and Mexico tariffs. On Wednesday, the White House said tariffs would be paused on the Big Three automakers Stellantis, General Motors and Ford — which operate North American production lines — until April 2. 20. Reddit’s rule check feature will help users avoid breaking subreddit rules Reddit’s rule check feature will help users avoid breaking subreddit rules Reddit has announced several new tools that seem like they were designed to encourage more lurkers to participate in discussions on the website. One of the new tools called Rules Check will make it easy to see if what you’re posting potentially goes against a subreddit’s rules. Before submitting your post, you can click the wand icon in the lower right-hand corner of the post composer, which you can see in the photo above. Doing that will highlight anything in your post that may be breaking a subreddit’s rules. Reddit will start testing the feature on iOS and Android before giving it a wider release. Another new tool called Post Recovery will show you a prompt if your post has been removed due to community rules. The prompt will contain a notice of removal, along with a link that will enable you to quickly share your deleted post to a more appropriate subreddit. To make sure you’re posting in the right community in the first place, Reddit will now suggest relevant communities based on what you write through a drop-down menu on the upper left corner of the composer screen. It will now also show you if a community has requirements, such as account age or minimum karma points, before you can post. The last tool is perhaps most useful if you promote products and services on Reddit. Post Insights will show you how many views, upvotes, shares and crossposts your posts have gotten, giving you an idea on what works when it comes to post engagement. All these tools other than Rules Check are now available on Reddit’s website and mobile app. Source link #Reddits #rule #check #feature #users #avoid #breaking #subreddit #rules Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content]
  21. Want Apple’s best Mac Studio? Prepare to pay over $14,000 Want Apple’s best Mac Studio? Prepare to pay over $14,000 Apple just launched its new Mac Studio alongside the latest MacBook Air. The new Studio comes equipped with either an M4 Max or an M3 Ultra chip, and while it sounds mighty powerful and fully capable of rivaling some of the best Macs, it’s also crazy expensive. If you want to configure it with all the bells and whistles Apple offers, you’ll have to pay over $14,500 — a huge increase over the previous generation. The new Mac Studio is certainly nothing to turn your nose up at. The M4 Max configuration starts with a 14-core CPU, 32-core GPU, and a 16-core neural engine. You’re also getting 36GB of unified memory and 512GB of SSD storage. This will set you back $1,999, which is the same as the last-gen Mac Studio that came equipped with the M2 Max and the M2 Ultra chips, so we’re all good. The M3 Ultra version — which, although the naming might be confusing, is indeed more powerful — starts at $3,999. Again, this is the same as the previous generation, although the specs go up significantly. Buying the M3 Ultra Mac Studio gives you a 28-core CPU, a 32-core neural engine, and a 60-core GPU. The base version sports 96GB of unified memory and 1TB of SSD storage, so it’s a solid upgrade compared to the M2 Ultra equivalent. Price-wise, it’s all downhill from here — or should I say, uphill. Apple Let’s say you’re after the best of the best. In the case of this particular workstation, that means upgrading to the M3 Ultra chip (with a 32-core CPU, an 80-core GPU, and a 32-core neural engine). Next, you’d pick the 512GB unified memory upgrade, which is only available with the top M3 Ultra and costs $4,000 all on its own. Lastly, 16TB storage, which is also an expensive upgrade — switching from 1TB to 16TB adds $4,600. These hardware upgrades alone add up to an eye-watering $14,099. That’s Mac Pro levels of pricing, and is a lot more than the previous generation, which maxed out at $8,799. You can make this slightly more expensive (because why not, at this point) by adding pre-installed software — Final Cut Pro and Logic Pro — adding up to a total of $14,598. While $14,600 is a lot to spend on anything, especially a PC, it’s worth noting that the Mac Studio is aimed at professionals who really need that kind of power for their day-to-day workloads. Still, Apple went all-out on the pricing, and the increase from $8,799 to over $14,000 is definitely significant. 24. NASA Tests Advanced Infrared Technology to Improve Wildfire Monitoring NASA Tests Advanced Infrared Technology to Improve Wildfire Monitoring Wildfires in California during January caused widespread destruction, affecting communities and ecosystems. To improve wildfire monitoring and response, NASA deployed a new scientific instrument capable of capturing high-resolution thermal infrared images. The Compact Fire Infrared Radiance Spectral Tracker (c-FIRST) was tested aboard NASA’s B200 King Air aircraft over fire-hit areas in Pacific Palisades and Altadena. The instrument, developed for satellite-based missions, was assessed for its ability to provide real-time data on active and smoldering fires. Scientists aim to use this technology to enhance understanding of wildfire behavior and improve mitigation strategies. Enhanced Fire Detection and Data Collection According to reports, the c-FIRST instrument was developed and is managed by NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), with support from NASA’s Earth Science Technology Office. The compact design allows it to be deployed on airborne platforms, simulating satellite missions while providing near-instantaneous observations. The system captures a wide range of fire characteristics, including temperature variations across large areas. Unlike previous infrared imaging systems, c-FIRST can detect extremely high temperatures exceeding 1,000 degrees Fahrenheit (550 degrees Celsius) with improved clarity. In a statement, Sarath Gunapala, principal investigator for c-FIRST at NASA JPL, noted that current fire observation instruments do not fully capture fire attributes across the Earth system. He explained that limitations in past imaging technologies have resulted in gaps in data concerning wildfire frequency, size, and intensity. Potential Benefits for Fire Management As per sources, c-FIRST is expected to provide critical insights for firefighting agencies by identifying smoldering fires that could reignite under changing wind conditions. In a report, Gunapala stated that the instrument’s ability to distinguish such fires in near real-time could support more effective wildfire management efforts. KC Sujan, operations engineer for the B200 King Air, told that the aircraft’s flight characteristics made it ideal for testing the instrument. With further evaluation, c-FIRST is expected to be integrated into future satellite missions, potentially improving global wildfire monitoring capabilities. 25. Nvidia’s 572.70 Game Ready Driver promises a ****** screen fix – but unless you have an RTX 5070 it’s probably best to avoid updating for now Nvidia’s 572.70 Game Ready Driver promises a ****** screen fix – but unless you have an RTX 5070 it’s probably best to avoid updating for now Nvidia released a new Game Ready Driver for RTX 5070 support and DLSS 4 updates for some new and current games Users continue to voice frustrations regarding ****** screen issues after new driver update It may be ideal to hold off on updates until Team Green releases more stable builds The tables are gradually turning in the battle between Nvidia and AMD in the GPU market, with the former’s RTX 5000 series launch coming with a litany of problems, which AMD is taking full advantage of with its Radeon RX 9000 series launch. While Team Green’s new Game Ready Driver promises a fix for some previous issues, it may be a good idea to stay away from it for the time being. In a blog released by Nvidia, a new Game Ready Driver (572.70) is available which provides support for its new RTX 5070 GPU, along with DLSS 4 Multi-Frame Generation support for some games. It also suggests a fix for a previous ****** screen issue when attempting to boot into systems while using DisplayPort. This issue seemed to be widespread after people installed driver 572.60 – I can corroborate this as booting into Windows 11 resulted in the login screen disappearing, leaving only the mouse cursor. The solution was uninstalling the ‘latest quality update’ in Windows 11’s recovery mode, and rolling the driver back to 572.47 for stability. It’s not the first time this has occurred – the driver that introduced DLSS 4 override for RTX GPUs (572.16), reportedly caused Blue Screen of Death errors when gaming, notably in Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 when activating or adjusting Frame Generation settings. A hotfix (572.65) was released to address 572.60’s major bug, but the issue remained (according to some Reddit users). Meanwhile, whilst the release notes for the new 572.70 update suggest the ****** screen issues have been resolved, users are still reporting the same problems, alongside stuttering in games and a ****** screen bug during the driver’s installation. This isn’t ideal, particularly for those using Team Green’s new RTX 5070 (the driver has been specifically released to support the GPU), and adds to the list of controversies surrounding the new Blackwell GPUs. Comment from r/nvidia Comment from r/nvidia Comment from r/nvidia (Image credit: Future) Roll back your drivers, and stay away for now Unless you’re using an RTX 5070, I would suggest you roll back your Nvidia graphics driver as soon as possible – I’ve been using driver 572.47 ever since encountering the ****** screen booting issue, and haven’t looked back. Team Green is under fire for several problems regarding its Blackwell GPUs, and I worry that it won’t end anytime soon. The last thing you want to happen is for a future unstable driver to drastically affect your system, and recurring BSoDs, in-game crashes, installation issues and unresponsive ****** screens are not a great sign in my book. Sign up for breaking news, reviews, opinion, top tech deals, and more.
