Five jailed over far-right plot to kidnap health minister
Pelican Press posted a topic in World News
Five jailed over far-right plot to kidnap health minister Five jailed over far-right plot to kidnap health minister Five members of a ******* far-right group have been jailed for plotting to overthrow the government and kidnap its health minister. Four of the group were described as “ringleaders” of a “terrorist organisation” which planned to use violence to trigger civil war-like conditions in Germany. The group had planned to kidnap Health Minister Karl Lauterbach – an advocate of strict Covid-19 measures during the pandemic – and to kill his bodyguards if necessary. Interior Minister Nancy Faeser said the defendants had posed “an enormous threat” to national security. The Koblenz higher regional court heard the group came together in January 2022 and devised a plan which included a sabotage attack to disable the power grid. The group – made up of four men aged between 46 and 58 and a 77-year-old woman – had hoped they would be joined by disgruntled members of the security forces. Four defendants described as ringleaders were sentenced to between five years and nine months and eight years in jail by a court in western Germany. A fifth defendant received a two year and 10 month sentence following the almost two-year trial. The identities of the five people convicted have not been publicly disclosed. The group were associated with Citizens of the Reich whose followers believe the ******* Empire, which collapsed in 1918, continues to exist. Investigators say it was led by Heinrich XIII Prince Reuss, a ******* aristocrat. They are also said to have taken inspiration from the QAnon conspiracy theory movement, which is associated with some Donald Trump’s supporters in the US. After the verdict, Lauterbach – of the centre-left Social Democratic Party (SDP) – thanked the police and said the state had shown “it can defend itself against violent conspiracy theorists”. Faeser said: “The violent plans for a coup, for attacks on the electricity infrastructure, for the kidnapping of Health Minister Karl Lauterbach and for the killing of his bodyguards have shown an enormous threat.” She added that security services “take the threats posed by the Citizens of the Reich scene seriously and “we are protecting our democracy”. The sentencing follows several trials targeting far-right groups linked to Citizens of Reich which reject the legitimacy of the modern ******* state. Trump puts new limits on Elon Musk Trump puts new limits on Elon Musk President Donald Trump convened his Cabinet in person on Thursday to deliver a message: You’re in charge of your departments, not Elon Musk. According to two administration officials, Trump told top members of his administration that Musk was empowered to make recommendations to the departments but not to issue unilateral decisions on staffing and policy. Musk was also in the room. The meeting followed a series of mass firings and threats to government workers from the billionaire Tesla founder, who helms the Department of Government Efficiency, that created broad uncertainty across the federal government and its workforce. DOGE’s actions have faced ferocious resistance in court and criticism from Democratic lawmakers and some Republicans. The president’s message represents the first significant move to narrow Musk’s mandate. According to Trump’s new guidance, DOGE and its staff should play an advisory role — but Cabinet secretaries should make final decisions on personnel, policy and the pacing of implementation. Musk joined the conversation and indicated he was on board with Trump’s directive. According to one person familiar with the meeting, Musk acknowledged that DOGE had made some missteps — a message he shared earlier this week with members of Congress. Trump stressed that he wants to keep good people in government and not to eject capable federal workers en masse. But his administration has in recent weeks fired tens of thousands of federal workers across numerous agencies in a series of blanket terminations. A federal judge and the chair of a federal civil service board have both concluded that the terminations were not tied to performance issues — and may have violated civil service laws. It is unclear whether the new guidance will result in laid off workers getting rehired. Trump posted about the meeting on Truth Social after this story posted, promising to hold similar meetings every two weeks. “As the Secretaries learn about, and understand, the people working for the various Departments, they can be very precise as to who will remain, and who will go,” he wrote. “We say the ‘scalpel’ rather than the ‘hatchet.’ The combination of them, Elon, DOGE, and other great people will be able to do things at a historic level.” Trump’s spokesperson, Harrison Fields, said Trump “sets the agenda for the entire administration, and everyone is committed to implementing that mission in a unified fashion.” The timing of the meeting was influenced by recent comments from Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.), who said on CNN Tuesday that Cabinet secretaries should retain the full power to hire and fire, according to one official. The official said Trump has been flooded with similar concerns from other lawmakers and Cabinet secretaries. The president’s admonition to agency heads could impact mounting legal scrutiny facing DOGE. Judges have increasingly expressed frustration and bewilderment at the Trump administration’s inability to explain who is in charge of the bureaucracy-culling effort and whether Musk himself is playing any role in ordering up the steep cuts to programs and jobs. Complicating the matter further, Trump declared during his address to Congress Tuesday that Musk is indeed the “head” of DOGE, a label that immediately reverberated in several of the Musk-focused court cases. Trump’s assertion conflicted with the White House’s representation in court last month that Musk had no independent authority to make policy decisions. Judges will now have to decide whether Trump’s after-the-fact characterization of Musk’s role resolves the already-existing legal challenges to DOGE’s work. It comes just as some of those lawsuits reach a new fact-finding phase that could produce more clarity on the SpaceX boss’ involvement in running the government. A federal judge last week ordered sworn testimony from some DOGE officials and affiliates to more fully understand the group’s work. And two lawsuits aimed at stopping Musk himself — one in Washington, D.C., and one in Maryland — are reaching crucial milestones as well. Those lawsuits allege that Musk has been exercising an unconstitutional degree of power for a government official who has not been confirmed by the Senate. The pivotal February jobs report is out Friday. Here’s what to expect The pivotal February jobs report is out Friday. Here’s what to expect People walk past digital billboards at the Moynihan Train Hall displaying a new initiative from New York Governor Kathy Hochul titled ‘New York Wants You’, a program designed to recruit and employ displaced federal workers across New York State, in New York, U.S., March 3, 2025. David Dee Delgado | Reuters Mixed signals lately from the labor market are adding to angst for investors already on a knife’s edge over the potential threat that tariffs pose to inflation and economic growth. Depending on the perspective, employers either are cutting workers at the highest rate in years or skating by with current staffing levels. What has become clear is that workers are increasingly uncertain of their employment status and less prone to seek other opportunities, at the same time as job hunters are reporting it harder to find new positions, according to several recent surveys. The sentiment indicators counter otherwise solid numbers showing up in more traditional data points like nonfarm payrolls growth and the jobless rate, which is still at a level historically associated with full employment and a bustling labor market. Sound fundamentals “Fundamentally speaking, things are still relatively sound in the United States. That doesn’t mean there are no cracks,” said Tom Porcelli, chief U.S. economist at PGIM Fixed Income. “You can just whistle past that and just hang your hat on the payrolls report, or recognize that the payrolls report is a lagging indicator and some of those other indicators that give you a better flavor of what’s happening under the surface are looking softer by comparison.” Markets will get another snapshot of labor market health when the Labor Department’s Bureau of Labor Statistics releases its February nonfarm payrolls report Friday at 8:30 ET. Economists surveyed by Dow Jones expect growth of 170,000 jobs, up from 143,000 in January, with the unemployment rate holding steady at 4%. While that represents a stable labor market, there are a number of caveats that point to more difficult times ahead. Outplacement firm Challenger, Gray & Christmas reported Thursday that layoff announcements from companies soared in February to their highest monthly level since July 2020. A big reason for that move was the effort by Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency to cull the federal workforce. Challenger reported more than 62,000 DOGE-related cuts. DOGE actions as well as other labor survey indicators showing worker angst likely won’t be reflected in Friday’s jobs number, primarily due to the timing of the cuts and the methodology the BLS uses in its twin counts of household employment and jobs filled at the establishment level. Consumer confidence drop But a recent Conference Board report showed an unexpectedly large drop in consumer confidence that coincided with a spike in respondents expecting fewer jobs to be available as well as harder to get. Similarly, a University of Michigan’s survey saw a slide as respondents worried about inflation. In the world of economics, such fears can quickly become self-fulfilling prophecy. “If workers don’t feel confident that they’re going to be able to find a new job … then that’s going to be reflected in the economy, and the same in terms for how willing employers are to hire,” said Allison Shrivastava, economist at the Indeed Hiring Lab. “Don’t ever discount sentiment.” In recent days, economists have been ramping up the potential impact for DOGE cuts, with some saying that multiplier effects involving government contractors could take the total labor force reduction to half a million or more. “They’re going to have some trouble being reabsorbed into the economy,” Shrivastava said. “It also does shake people’s confidence and sentiment, which can certainly impact the actual economy.” For now, Goldman Sachs said the DOGE cuts probably will lower the headline payrolls number by just 10,000 or so and exepcts weather-related impacts to be small. Overall, the bank said the current picture, according to alternative figures, is one of “a firm pace of job creation, and we expect continued, albeit moderating, contributions from catch-up hiring and the recent surge in immigration.” In addition to the employment numbers, the BLS will release figures on pay growth. Average hourly earnings are expected to show a 0.3% monthly gain, up 4.2% from a year ago and about 0.1 percentage point above the January level. Europa blow for Ange’s Tottenham, Man United draw Europa blow for Ange’s Tottenham, Man United draw A comical first-half own-goal from Lucas Bergvall has consigned a lacklustre Tottenham to a 1-0 loss away to AZ Alkmaar in the first leg of their Europa League last-16 tie. Bergvall’s sliced clearance from a Troy Parrott shot looped in after 18 minutes and it proved enough to give AZ a first victory over an English side in 12 attempts. Spurs had eight days to prepare for this fixture but produced a flat display in the Netherlands and did not register a shot on target until the 88th minute. It was a thoroughly disappointing performance from Ange Postecoglou’s team, especially given this competition remains the club’s last hope of silverware this term and their only chance to salvage a difficult campaign. Tottenham now have it all to do ahead of Thursday’s second leg in north London. Postecoglou resisted the temptation to start fit-again trio Micky van de Ven, Cristian Romero and Dominic Solanke and the injury curse actually struck the hosts as Mayckel Lahdo was forced off after eight minutes at AFAS Stadion. It contributed to a disjointed start, but AZ, with the first legitimate chance of the match, took the lead in bizarre fashion in the 18th minute. Peer Koopmeiners’ corner picked out ex-Spurs forward Parrott, who had a side-footed shot which Bergvall completely miscued and watched in horror as his attempted clearance looped over Djed Spence and into the net. It was an embarrassing own goal and, while Tottenham briefly responded, Parrott was involved again soon after as Archie Gray blocked his effort before Ernest Poku sent the follow-up well wide. An even better opportunity was created after 31 minutes when AZ broke after a Son Heung-min chance and Parrott was played through, but Guglielmo Vicario raced out to brilliantly deny the Republic of Ireland forward. A poorly-worked short free-kick by Son summed up Spurs’ half before the visitors survived a goalmouth scramble as James Maddison slid in to deny David Moller Wolfe, and Bergvall blocked from Koopmeiners. It remained 1-0 at half-time, but Postecoglou reacted by bringing on Wilson Odobert for Mathys Tel and Tottenham’s urgency improved, with Bergvall firing wide before Son blazed over. AZ remained a threat and Poku forced Vicario into another save after a dangerous cross by Moller Wolfe. Rodrigo Bentancur was booked soon after for a late challenge on the excellent Parrott, which rules the Spurs midfielder out of next week’s second leg. Chances remained at a premium for Tottenham and Postecoglou made a triple substitution with 18 minutes left, with Pedro Porro, Pape Sarr and Solanke sent on. It failed to spark a late rally and, although Odobert tested Rome-Jayden Owusu-Oduro for the first time in the 88th minute, Spurs were dealt a fresh blow late on when Solanke limped off after he was caught by AZ’s goalkeeper. Absentee-hit Manchester United were unable to turn a positive performance into victory as Mikel Oyarzabal’s penalty saw Real Sociedad head to Old Trafford with the last-16 tie poised at 1-1. Joshua Zirkzee put United into a deserved lead, only for Oyarzabal to level from the spot with Sociedad’s first shot on target after the VAR spotted a Bruno Fernandes handball. Aritz Elustondo produced blocks to deny Fernandes and Zirkzee in quick succession, with the latter making the breakthrough in the 57th minute when firing home from the edge of the box. La Real offered little by way of response, but the VAR’s intervention gave them the chance to level with 20 minutes remaining. Fernandes’ handball was punished upon review and Sociedad skipper Oyarzabal scored from the spot. The rejuvenated hosts ended on top as United’s lack of options and recent exertions took their toll, but they head back to Old Trafford for next Thursday’s second leg in a decent position. Rangers took a big step toward the quarter-finals by stunning José Mourinho’s Fenerbahce 3-1 in Istanbul, while Malick Fofana scored a brace as Lyon defeated FCSB 3-1. Everything We Know About InZoi, Krafton’s Upcoming Life Simulator Everything We Know About InZoi, Krafton’s Upcoming Life Simulator After loads of rumors, delays, and brief glimpses of the game, the Korean-made life simulator known as InZoi is almost here. This detailed (and visually stunning) life-sim has fans of the genre–especially weary players of the struggling Sims franchise–very excited for its upcoming release. But what exactly is InZoi? What does its gameplay consist of? Most importantly, when is it coming out? Curious life-sim fans need not worry–we’ve got all the answers. Keep reading for a deep dive into everything we currently know about InZOI. When does InZoi launch? InZoi is set to release in early access on March 28, 2025, a date confirmed by InZoi director Hyungjun “Kjun” Kim during a discussion on the official InZoi Discord server. This is March 27 in the US. InZoi was originally slated for release in late 2024, but developer InZoi Studio and publisher Krafton chose to delay the game in order to make sure it’s as polished as possible at launch. InZoi is currently only slated for released on PC for March 27; it’s also coming to PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, but there is no release date yet for those platforms. Yes, InZOI has cats and–from the looks of the character creator–other animals for Zois to interact with. What platforms is InZoi launching on? Initially, InZoi will be launching only on PC, but the game’s roadmap says Krafton plans to bring the game to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S at a later date. Preorder info Currently, Krafton hasn’t shared any information about preordering the game. It is, however, currently available to wishlist on Steam. What engine was InZoi built on? InZoi runs on Unreal Engine 5, resulting in stunning visuals, and characters–referred to in-game as Zois–who look realistic rather than cartoonish. Watch InZoi trailers here InZoi official gameplay overview reveal trailer InZoi official roadmap and gameplay trailer Official gameplay and Character Studio reveal trailer (Gamescom 2024) Gamescom 2024 hands-on preview How does InZoi compare to The Sims 4? While many players are naturally inclined to compare InZoi to The Sims, Kim has emphasized that InZoi isn’t out to steal The Sims’ thunder. “We see InZoi not as a competitor to The Sims, but rather as another option that fans of this genre can enjoy,” Kim said in February. “We have great respect for the legacy The Sims has built over the years, since we know that reaching that much depth in such a short ******* of time is no easy task. This is due to the nature of life-sim games which cover the vast and complex concept of ‘life,’ making it difficult to capture its every aspect.” InZOI includes a mode that allows players to easily build and edit cities–a feature The Sims 4 has struggled to implement. What gameplay features does InZoi include? Although Kim and the InZoi team say they aren’t trying to compete with The Sims 4, even a passing glance at the game reveals that features-wise, InZOI appears to be beating The Sims at its own game. InZoi will launch with many of the features The Sims 4 was missing at launch, plus some extras. Currently, we know InZoi will launch with the following features: An extremely detailed and highly customizable character creator known as the Character Studio Detailed clothing and accessory customization A portal players can use to upload their creations, and download other players’ creations Personality traits and life aspirations A mode that allows players to build and edit their Zois’ homes Cars that Zois can drive (and ******!) Cats (and several other animals, as seen in the character creator and trailers) A city-builder/city-editor with different biomes and aesthetics Color and texture customization for Zois’ clothes, homes, and possessions Careers (ranging from K-Pop idol ******** to firefighter, and everything in-between) Skills (including cooking, music, and social interaction) Weather systems Crime (Zois can chase down criminals while working as police officers–or find themselves on the other end of that chase, should they break the law.) Interesting POIs for Zois to visit, including a theme park with rideable roller coasters A freely roamable city to explore (unlike The Sims 4’s lot-locked, loading-screen-heavy exploration mechanic) The afterlife (Zois can become ghosts, go to Zoi-heaven, and even commune with other Zois who have passed away.) The game likely includes even more features–the ones listed above are just the features we know about. GameSpot took InZoi for a spin during Gamescom 2024, and found the game to be impressive both visually and technically. The game’s highly detailed character creator has life-sim fans excited. Does InZoi use generative AI? Yes. Krafton and InZoi Studio have revealed that generative AI will be used in InZoi. Specifically, players will have the option of making use of an AI system that turns text prompts into in-game items like clothing, wall, and floor patterns. The game also includes a 3D printer-like feature that will allow players to upload photos of real-life objects and turn them into 3D assets to decorate and use in-game. What are InZoi’s PC requirements? InZoi’s minimum PC specs and recommended PC specs are both listed below. Minimum requirements: OS: Windows 10/11 Processor: Intel i5 10400, AMD Ryzen 3600 Memory: 12 GB RAM Graphics: NVIDIA RTX 2060 (8G VRAM), AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT DirectX: Version 12 Network: Broadband Internet connection Storage: 60 GB available space Notes: Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system. Recommended specs: OS: Windows 10/11 Processor: Intel i7 12700, AMD Ryzen 5800 Memory: 16 GB RAM Graphics: NVIDIA RTX 3070 (8G VRAM), AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT DirectX: Version 12 Network: Broadband Internet connection Storage: 75 GB available space Notes: Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system. Stay tuned to GameSpot for InZoi-related news as its launch date approaches. Source link #InZoi #Kraftons #Upcoming #Life #Simulator Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content]

*** cyber security damaged by “clumsy Home Office political censorship” *** cyber security damaged by “clumsy Home Office political censorship” Britain’s National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) has secretly censored detailed public computer security guidance provided to barristers, solicitors and legal firms without explanation or announcement. The guidance, a web page and a seven-page PDF report called “Cyber Security Tips for barristers, solicitors, and legal professionals”, was removed from the Centre’s public website two weeks ago on 24 February. NCSC refused to respond to questions from CW asking if they knew that the deleted web page and booklet had automatically been archived by The National Archives, multiple times, and so were all still online. On the NCSC website, requests for the legal advice web page are now redirected to an incorrect page on the same site. The deleted booklet link returns a “404” http not found error page stating “sorry – the page you’re looking for isn’t here”. Embarrassingly for NCSC, the not found error page then suggests that The National Archive might have archived versions of the removed file. It does. “Cyber criminals are not fussy about who they attack”, the censored NCSC booklet had warned, “which means law practices of all sizes are at risk.” The booklet lists 37 steps lawyers and legal firms should take “to help them to reduce the likelihood of becoming victims of a cyber-attack.” The booklet was published on 11 October 2024, following a special 2023 NSCS Cyber Threat report for the *** legal sector. The Cyber Threat report, published with the assistance of the Bar Council, noted that by 2020 three quarters of *** legal firms had reported cyber-attacks. According to the Bar Council, “barristers in England and Wales face threats, harassment, and intimidation at the hands of state and non-state actors from around the world. The Bar Council is concerned by the rising reports from members who have faced different forms of attack and threats because of their international legal work.” Targeted attacks reported to the Bar Council have included physical as well as cyber surveillance, cyber harassment including threatening or impersonating emails, repeated and sustained hacking attempts, death threats and ***** threats, threats to family members via email or social media, and ‘privilege phishing’ which attempts to seek to persuade those who are targeted to divulge sensitive information. “These threats are not just an attack on the legal profession, they also have a chilling effect on access to justice and the rule of law,” it said. ‘Political Censorship’ NCSC’s advice to lawyers was removed one month after these grave warnings from the Bar Council’s and on the weekend after Apple had indicated it would refuse to comply with a *** Home Office “Technical Capability Notice” (TCN) requiring it to disable its high security end-to-end encrypted “Advance Data Protection” (ADP) system used on iCloud. The ADP system causes the encryption keys for users’ iCloud files to be stored only on devices, so improving security for legal data from outside attackers. “This looks like clumsy Home Office political censorship”, according to cybersecurity expert Dr Ian Brown. “This kind of politicisation by GCHQ [which runs NCSC] is a hazard to security, because of the risk of subordinating protective security to surveillance,” he said. Brown and other security experts warned when NCSC was set up it should be run separately from GCHQ to avoid conflict and embarrassment. Cambridge University Professor of Communications Systems John Crowcroft, commenting on the move against Apple, said “The *** now is in a weaker state of protection. The attraction to the bad guys is increased here massively above other countries…Our government has painted a target on us, and explicitly on all the “us” that are not engaged in anything other than everyday commerce and discourse.” NCSC drops references to encryption The *** weakened position now recommended by NCSC now fails to refer to the critical need for end-to-end encryption, except for one isolated and obscure document. The incorrect page that lawyers are now linked to does not refer to encryption at all. In contrast, and in the face of an onslaught of suspected ******** led attacks against multiple high-value targets, the US equivalent cyber defence agency, CISA, has recently stipulated that “highly targeted individuals [should] immediately review and apply the best practices provided … including consistent use of end-to-end encryption.” “Highly targeted individuals should assume that all communications between mobile devices—including government and personal devices—and internet services are at risk of interception or manipulation,” CISA’s advice states. NCSC refused this week to answer any questions from CW and referred enquiries to the Home Office, who also refuse to respond. The still unanswered questions included who ordered the takedown, why, and why partner legal organisations were not notified or consulted in advance of the tampering. NCSC also refused to say whether it would now seek to have government archive copies erased and consigned to a “memory hole” – a reference to technique adopted by the Ministry of Truth in Orwell’s 1984; or whether they would put the censored pages back. Until the secret takedown, the NCSC booklet included the instruction to lawyers to “turn on encryption”. It advised, “Turn on the free encryption products included with your Windows or Apple devices, so cyber attackers can’t access your sensitive data if your device is lost or stolen. Make sure encryption is enabled on your mobile device (this is done automatically on modern Android/Apple devices)”. For iOS devices, users were told to enable Advanced Data Protection for iCloud. This advice had become impossible for *** users because of Apple’s reaction to the Home Office notice. All the other cybersecurity guidance in the booklet remained valid New concerns over National Security Notices The escalating row between Apple and the Home Office has also flushed out more serious concerns about the use of far-reaching powers to impose controls on telecommunications companies, by issuing “National Security Notices”. The vague terms of National Security Notices require telecommunications operators “to take specific steps that the Secretary of State considers necessary in the interests of national security. Parliament was led to believe that this power applied only to technical facilities such as interception arrangements. Multiple industry sources say that since 2016, NSNs have been used to require telecommunications company boards, including Apple, to delegate Board authority to secret Home Office controlled and selected internal National Security Committees, all of whose members and staff, and any lawyers they hire, must be approved for Developed Vetting (DV) checks. The arrangement means that companies may be ordered to implement security breaches that directors and engineering staff do now know about. Misuse of Developed Vetting Notoriously, after the 2016 Investigatory Powers Act came into effect, the Home Office and intelligence agencies used the Developed Vetting Process to block the newly appointed Investigatory Powers Commissioner, Lord Justice Adrian Fulford, from appointing the Commissions chosen Head of Investigations, lecturer in surveillance law Eric Kind. Although initially approved by a Vetting Offices, Kind was told that DV security clearance had been rejected after the intervention of the Security Service, MI5. As reported earlier, Apple has now appealed against the ADP instruction to the Investigatory Powers Tribunal. All eleven members of the IPT are senior barristers who have serves as Judges. After checking, the Bar Council told Computer Weekly that it “was not notified of the takedown of this document by the NCSC. We will contact the NCSC and make enquiries about the status of the document and its removal.” A Bar Counsel Spokesperson added that the Council would consider linking to a National Archive copy of the removed page and document “after speaking to our IT panel and raising it with the NCSC.” Source link #cyber #security #damaged #clumsy #Home #Office #political #censorship Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content]

Medical jet’s voice recorder likely wasn’t working for years before Philadelphia ****** Medical jet’s voice recorder likely wasn’t working for years before Philadelphia ****** PHILADELPHIA (AP) — The cockpit voice recorder was not working on a medical transport plane that crashed in Philadelphia in January and likely had not been working for several years, the National Transportation Safety Board said in a preliminary report issued Thursday. The NTSB also confirmed that the crew made no distress calls to air traffic control during the one-minute flight. A ground warning system that may contain flight data memory is still being evaluated by the manufacturer, the agency said. The medical transportation plane plummeted into a residential and commercial area within a minute of taking off from Northeast Philadelphia Airport and erupted into a fireball on the evening of Jan. 31. Officials said the ****** killed all six people aboard the Learjet 55 and a seventh person who was inside a vehicle on the ground. At least two dozen others on the ground were injured, including a 10-year-old boy in a vehicle who was hit by debris while trying to protect his sister. Those on the plane included an 11-year-old girl who had been receiving medical treatment at Shriners Children’s Philadelphia hospital. Jet Rescue Air Ambulance said the plane had been taking Valentina Guzmán Murillo and her 31-year-old mother, Lizeth Murillo Osuna, home to Mexico. Trusted news and daily delights, right in your inbox See for yourself — The Yodel is the go-to source for daily news, entertainment and feel-good stories. Jet Rescue identified its team members as Dr. Raul Meza Arredondo, 41; the captain, Alan Montoya Perales, 46; the copilot, Josue de Jesus Juarez Juarez, 43; and paramedic Rodrigo Lopez Padilla, 41. All four were from Mexico. NTSB Chair Jennifer Homendy has said air traffic controllers didn’t hear anything concerning before the ******. According to the report, the recorder was recovered eight feet (2.4 meters) underground after the plane crashed and had significant damage, including exposure to liquids. After extensive cleaning and repairs, the agency discovered the 30-minute tape did not have any audio of the flight. The high-impact ****** left the plane highly fragmented, and a debris field that the NTSB on Thursday said was about 1,410 ft in length and 840 ft wide. U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy, who visited the ****** site with investigators, said that the aircraft came down at “a very steep angle” and that the impact area was notably “expansive.” City officials said the resulting fire and debris destroyed or significantly damaged more than a dozen homes and businesses. Andrew Parker Felix, an Orlando, Florida-based lawyer, represents a man who was driving home from work when his SUV became engulfed in jet fuel from the ******. He said the man spent 11 days in an intensive care burn unit, enduring skin grafts. “This is going to be a long road of recovery in front of him,” Felix said. At least three other law firms have said they represent victims of the ******. The ****** was among a series of recent aviation disasters and close calls that left some people worried about the safety of flying. ChatGPT for macOS can now directly edit Xcode projects ChatGPT for macOS can now directly edit Xcode projects ChatGPT on macOS is about to become more useful for coding. With the latest update for the app (version 1.2025.057), ChatGPT can now edit code directly within an integrated development environment — no need to copy and paste. You can find the full list of supported IDEs on OpenAI’s website, but some of the more notable inclusions are Apple’s own Xcode, Visual Code Studio and offshoots of Jetbrains like Android Studio and PyCharm. According to OpenAI, IDE integration has been one of the most-requested features from macOS users since the company released its “works with app” framework back in November. If you’re a Plus, Pro or Team subscriber, you can start using the integration today. As for Enterprise, Edu and Free users, look for the updated app to arrive next week. To view this content, you’ll need to update your privacy settings. Please click here and view the “Content and social-media partners” setting to do so. Perhaps unsurprisingly this feature arrives just as “vibecoding” enters the popular lexicon. For the uninitiated, vibecoding is a form of coding that involves using AI tools like ChatGPT (and the power of vibes, of course) to program apps and games. While it might seem like a meme, vibecoding is very much a real thing. In a video titled “Vibe Coding is the Future,” Jared Friedman, a managing partner at Y Combinator, said a quarter of the startup accelerator’s W25 cohort have a code base that was 95 percent generated by AI. “This isn’t a fad. This isn’t going away. This is the dominant way to code. And if you are not doing it, you might just be left behind,” Garry Tan, the CEO of Y Combinator, added in the same video. Is the Nasdaq 100 in a Long-Term Bear Market? Is the Nasdaq 100 in a Long-Term Bear Market? Using the Elliott Wave Principle (EWP), we have been tracking the most likely path forward for the (NDX). Although there are many ways to navigate the markets and to each their own, we find the EWP to be the most reliable and accurate. Namely, we’ve been tracking an ending diagonal (ED) advance of the August 2024 low over the last four months. EDs are tricky because all their waves comprise three waves: 3-3-3-3-3. Besides, W-iii typically targets the 123.6-138.2% extension of W-i, measured from W-ii. The W-iv then tends to correct back to the 61.8-76.4% extension, after which the last W-v targets, ideally, the 161.8-176.4% extension. (Red) W-iii topped December 16 at $22133, and (red, alt) W-iv may have bottomed out on January 13 at $20538, while (red, alt) W-v only reached $22222 on February 19. See Figure 1 below. In this case, the W-iii surpassed its ideal Fibonacci-based target zones, whereas the alt: W-iv fell short (green squares) for an ED. Also, the alt: W-v fell short of its target zone (Red square). Thus, although we were correctly looking for higher prices in our , the market did not reach the ideal targets. It shows that price is the final arbiter, and the markets do not owe us anything, i.e., they do not have to reach ideal target zones, such a big miss is uncommon and troubling for this potential wave count. Besides, back in February we were humble enough to recognize that, while “We prefer to have a Bullish perspective until proven otherwise [, … which is a] break below …. $21008 for starters, but ultimately, the January 13 low at $20538 remains the Bull-Bear line in the sand. If the market decides to move below these levels, our preferred EW count switches to our alternative, which has the more significant red W-iv become protracted and target $19930-20300 before the red W-v starts. But as stated, that’s our alternative, our insurance, in case we are wrong.” As such, the index is likely completing an irregular expanded flat in EWP terms: W>c>b>a. The ideal target is the 61.80% extension of red W-i, measured from red W-ii, at $19940, which the index is getting close to today, and coincidentally coincides with the ****** dotted parallel lower trendline. If the index can hold that level, especially the 50% Fib-extension at $19646, we can look forward to ideally the (red) 161.80% Fib-extension at $22434. Lastly, sentiment has become highly bearish even though the index reached an all-time high just two weeks ago and has, so far, only lost 10% top-to-bottom. See Figure 2 below. This week’s AAII’s bearish sentiment remains unusually and historically high, which over its entire 38-year history, only happened during significant bear markets (1990, 2008, 2022). Moreover, CNN’s Fear and Greed Index has been below 25, which is extreme fear territory, for over a week now. Meanwhile, seasonality for a post-election year in which the incumbent president lost is turning bullish. Although these conditions are not trade triggers, and seasonality is only an average, it aligns with our “irregular expanded flat” W-iv EWP count. Thus, our Elliott Wave analysis provides specific levels to watch. How the market reacts to those combined with the structure of that reaction will tell us how to adjust if needed: all we can do is anticipate, monitor, and adjust if necessary. Although previously, our preferred EW count was correctly looking for higher prices, the upside target was not reached, but as we stated last, “we’re simply monitoring its progress to see if it aligns with the market’s price action. If yes, stay long and keep monitoring. If not, adjust and take appropriate trading action.” Over the last weeks, we monitored the index, found it started to diverge from our preferred EWP count, and adjusted accordingly. As such, we must also lower the ideal upside target from $22836-$23400 to $22451, contingent on holding above key price levels. Thus, the Bulls have a last chance to reach that level. However, once reached, an even more significant correction can start, if not an outright multi-year Bear market. AWS launches Amazon GameLift Streams for cloud gaming AWS launches Amazon GameLift Streams for cloud gaming Attendees walk through an exposition hall at AWS re:Invent, a conference hosted by Amazon Web Services, in Las Vegas on Dec. 3, 2024. Noah Berger | Getty Images Amazon’s cloud unit said Thursday that it’s launching a service to allow video game publishers to stream their games online. GameLift Streams will deliver games to any device with a browser that supports the WebRTC standard, Amazon said in a blog post. That includes smart TVs, phones, tablets and PCs. One way the service can be used is to rapidly distribute titles in development to testers, and then securely remove access later. “Lots of AAA games are using the service in that regard,” Chris Lee, general manager and head of immersive technologies at Amazon Web Services, told CNBC. A handful of companies, such as Electronic Arts and Take-Two Interactive, invest heavily in top-flight games with high production quality. AWS generates a considerable amount of its revenue from core services such as renting out access to server and storage space, with data centers located around the world. But the company has hundreds of other services available to software developers. For the past decade, AWS has served as Amazon’s main profit engine. Jackbox Games, a developer of casual games such as “Quiplash” and “Fibbage,” plans to rely on GameLift Streams to release a game-streaming service that will provide access to many of its titles. Jackbox’s games are currenlty available for an upfront fee. Evan Jacover, Jackbox’s technology chief, said his company looked into building its own technology for streaming but decided to go with AWS after learning of its plans. “It’s not a core competency at Jackbox Games,” Jacover said, adding the startup had a proof of concept, or POC. “We got a POC up, but it wasn’t efficient to get it really working well.” Jackbox’s goal is to release an early ad-supported version of its service in the first half of the year, with more games and a subscription option to follow. Because the company’s games aren’t heavy on graphics, they don’t have major latency concerns and can work well on streaming. Amazon GameLift Streams supports 1080p resolution at 60 frames per second. “That’s kind of the sweet spot when we talk to customers,” Lee said. Microsoft’s Xbox Series X and Sony’s PlayStation 5 Pro can go up to 4K resolution and 120 frames per second, accommodating more advanced video. But modern game consoles cost hundreds of dollars. The cost of GameLift Streams is based on which Nvidia graphics processing units customers use, along with consumption of storage for game data. Games can run on Windows or Linux. No modifications are required to integrate the service, the blog post said. ‘We’re thinking of everyone’: Premier gives special permission for Broncos ‘We’re thinking of everyone’: Premier gives special permission for Broncos The Broncos produced one of the most emphatic 80-minute performances you’ll ever see in round one to trounce the Roosters, with Michael Maguire’s side then forced to head across Sydney to begin a hectic return trip home to be with their loved ones before Tropical Cyclone Alfred makes landfall. It had been a chaotic build-up for the Broncos who landed in Sydney on Tuesday, while fellow Queensland club the Dolphins had their game against the Rabbitohs relocated to NSW to ensure the match could go ahead. Playing a road game is hard enough without worrying about whether your family is safe, but it didn’t affect the Broncos who were simply brilliant in their 50-14 thrashing of the Roosters. Watch your team in the 2025 NRL Telstra Premiership. Stream every round LIVE in 4K, with no ad-breaks during play, on Kayo Sports. New to Kayo? Get your first month for just $1. Limited-time offer. NRL: Ben Hunt has scored on his Broncos return after spending seven seasons at the Dragons. “It says a lot about the players,” Maguire said. “One thing that I’ve seen since arriving at the club is that there’s a strong connection between the players. “They’ve experienced plenty, so for myself to come into a group that’s been together for a while and gone through challenging times together, they’ve put their heads down and worked really hard. “It says a lot about the group and what they’re willing to do for each other.” The Broncos produced some incredible tries on Thursday night, with winger Selwyn Cobbo grabbing a hat-trick as Reece Walsh, Ben Hunt and Adam Reynolds tortured the defence. There’s usually a long gap between full-time and the winning captain and coach arriving for the press conference, but Reynolds was there within minutes given the team had to travel to Bankstown to board a charter flight to Toowoomba where they’d travel two hours by bus to get back to Brisbane. The club had been given special permission by the Queensland premier’s office to make the last-minute dash home. All airlines cancelled flights into Brisbane after 4pm (AEDT) on Thursday. Virgin Australia suspended all services at Brisbane Airport on Thursday. The Broncos were also unable to fly into Gold Coast Airport or Ballina Byron Gateway Airport. Broncos captain Aam Reynolds said the team had embraced the uncertainty heading into the game. “It’s sort of the unknown,” Reynolds said. “I don’t think too many people have been through a cyclone, so for us, it’s about getting home as soon as possible and being with our loved ones and making sure that we’re all okay. “We’re thinking of everyone that’s going to be affected by the cyclone. It’s not something we want to go through, but it’s important to hunker down and make sure everyone’s okay and check in on each other. “We checked in on them (our families) early, and then we had 80 minutes to worry about out there. “Everyone is doing fine back home at the moment. We had a job to do here for 80 minutes, and now we can turn our attention to getting back home and being with our families.” Source link #thinking #Premier #special #permission #Broncos Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content] For verified travel tips and real support, visit: [Hidden Content]

Logitech G915 TKL on ***** at $119.99 — RGB mechanical keyboard at 48% off, lowest price in years Logitech G915 TKL on ***** at $119.99 — RGB mechanical keyboard at 48% off, lowest price in years The Logitech G915 TKL is a low-profile mechanical keyboard that launched back in 2020, but it’s still a good and capable option for those looking to build out a high-end gaming system. We loved the keyboard when we reviewed it back then, and many still love it today, despite the launch of newer models. One of its few downsides, though, was its $230 price tag. If you’ve been waiting since 2020 and still haven’t gotten one, it may finally be your time. The Logitech G915 TKL is currently on offer at a massive discount of 48% for the white model, bringing its price down to $119.99. If that’s not your style, the ****** model is also offered at 47% off for just $121. These massive discounts will save you over $100 on the purchase price, allowing you to finally get a beautifully crafted low-profile RGB mechanical keyboard without breaking your budget. While still not on par with the prices that you find on our best budget mechanical keyboards list, it makes it far more affordable than some of the premium models that you can find included in our best gaming keyboards. The $120 price point is an absolute steal for the Logitech G915 TKL, especially as you get high-quality low-profile switches available in tactile, clicky, or linear. It also uses a single-piece aircraft-grade brushed aluminum alloy for its top plate, giving you the rigidity and solid build that you’d expect from a premium gaming keyboard. Aside from that, you get per-key lighting, allowing you to fully customize the look of your mechanical keyboard and even highlight specific keys. You free up a lot of space on your desk since the G915 TKL drops the numpad, thus giving you ample room for moving your mouse around or placing an extra set of controllers around your workstation. Despite that, you still get media controls and a volume control wheel, making it easy to control your audio without pressing extra keys. There are three ways to connect the keyboard to your PC — via a wired USB-A to MicroUSB connection if you want the reliability of a cable (and for charging it), via Lightspeed technology with an included USB-A dongle, and Bluetooth. If you want to know more about this keyboard and see your purchase options, you should visit the Logitech G915 TKL product page on Amazon. If you’re interested, you should hurry, as we don’t until when this deal will last. For Some, The Critical Gaming Advantage NVIDIA 5070 Ti Has Over the AMD Radeon 9070 XT Is Worth the Extra $150 For Some, The Critical Gaming Advantage NVIDIA 5070 Ti Has Over the AMD Radeon 9070 XT Is Worth the Extra $150 AMD’s RX 9070 XT stands in sharp contrast to Nvidia’s RTX 5070 series of GPUs. Where AMD has managed to keep up, and at times even dominate the competition, Nvidia is too busy chasing its own tail – largely thanks to no real competition. This has resulted in Nvidia stagnating, and the RTX 5070/5070 Ti coming in at a shockingly worse value when compared to the RX 9070/9070 XT series of cards. Despite these faults. Nvidia still maintains an edge in certain edge cases, and it might make real sense for someone to pay an additional $150 for Team Green. The RTX 5070 Ti still has a few cards up its sleeve, making it sometimes more desirable than the RX 9070 XT The RTX 5000 series have some advantages over the RX 9000 from AMD | Image Credit: Nvidia While the RX 9070 XT from AMD manages to trump Nvidia’s RTX 5070 Ti in almost all aspects, it still loses out in a few key areas. Nvidia still has a lot better ray tracing performance, and while AMD has managed to improve, they are still far behind. The 5070 Ti delivers 30% faster ray traced performance on average, resulting in more dynamic, realistic looking shadows and lighting. Naturally, this level of visual fidelity depends on game to game, but Nvidia’s superior ray traced shadows and lighting really shine through in games that make good use of it – such as Alan Wake 2 and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle. Shadows and lighting also make a huge part of environmental detail, and having just the right amount of ray traced goodness can vastly improve upon a video game’s presentation. In particular, the boost to realism and depth perception can sometimes help spot enemies better, and confer a competitive advantage. It’s not all roses though, as ray tracing is still a very unnecessary addition, fulfilling the niche of ‘good to haves’ instead of ‘must haves’. As such, users who don’t particularly care about RT can safely ignore the RTX 5070 Ti. RDNA 4 has better ray tracing | Image Credit: AMD This is assuming that newer titles do not cave into the unfortunate trend of mandatory ray tracing seen in PC ports. In this case, Nvidia still maintains an advantage over Team Red, conferring more average FPS and superior 1% lows – ensuring smoother gameplay. Regardless, AMD’s loss here is very marginal, and assuming that AMD can maintain its MSRP pricing, it still remains a better deal in most scenarios. DLSS and compute are still dominated by Nvidia Quadro is unmatched | Image Credit: Nvidia We haven’t addressed the dark horse here – DLSS. While DLSS 4 makes use of frame generation trickery to boost performance, there can be no doubt that it is somewhat effective, and AMD’s solutions (FSR 3 and AFMF 2) are far inferior in comparison. DLSS approximates pixels more accurately, and gives off an overall cleaner image. While FSR 4 aims to bridge the gap quite significantly, it still isn’t anywhere close to being implemented in games, and as such remains out of scope. Other than DLSS, Nvidia still offers better compute performance, which may be useful for those using AI or LLM models. The Quadro series in particular is quite appealing for these markets. Wrestling stereotype is changing, says Norwich WAW star Annabelle Wrestling stereotype is changing, says Norwich WAW star Annabelle Martin Giles/BBC Annabelle says her wrestling style has been adapted to use her body weight against opponents during moves The teenage Bellatrix European champion might not look like a traditional professional wrestler. At 5ft (1.5m) tall and weighing 7.5 stone (nearly 50kg), Maddie Connor, who fights under the name Annabelle, has been competing for the World Association of Wrestling since starting out at the age of seven in Norwich. The 18-year-old won her title in December and is also the first competitor to hold the British and Academy titles at the same time. “Wrestlers are stereotyped to be tall with a muscular build. This stereotype is changing; my height is my advantage,” she said. “It felt surreal winning my belt to show the hard work I have been putting in over the last 10 years of my career. “My age is one of the biggest challenges I have faced – it’s hard to branch out until you’re 18 so I have done really well to get where I am”. Zoe Dennis/BBC Annabelle won the Bellatrix European Championship in December According to the British Wrestling Association, about 1,800 people wrestle in Britain. “Wrestling is a sequence of fighting that we use to entertain a crowd and tell a story,” said Annabelle. “It’s just exciting to see a performance in the style of sport.” Maddie Connor “It took me a while to persuade my parents to let me wrestle when I started, but they like to come watch,” Annabelle said ‘The bumps we take are real’ The big preconception in wrestling is that performers do not get hurt, Annabelle said, but she has the bruises to show this is not the case. “Wrestling is a very thought-out sport, and we are trained to compete safely,” she said. “We are constantly putting our bodies on the line in the form of entertainment.” European wrestling champion performs Venus Flytrap Annabelle is not the first young woman from Norwich to make waves in the wrestling scene. Saraya ***** Bevis became famous in the USA as the WWE wrestler Paige. The 31-year-old, and her wrestling family from Norwich, were the subject of the movie Fighting With My Family when she was portrayed by actress Florence Pugh. “Norwich is good for wrestling as it seems to have a lot of people who love watching the sport,” Annabelle added. ‘Wrestling is almost like pantomime’Harley Tedds/WAW She said her character gave her the confidence to face any opponent in the ring Annabelle’s passion for the sport entertainment started nearly 11 years ago when she began to watch WWE with her family. “We watched a live performance in Great Yarmouth and it made me fall in love with wrestling,” she said. “If you fall down, the crowd makes noise to ensure you’re getting back up. We have good guys and bad guys, it’s almost like pantomime.” Her character, “Annabelle – the living dead doll”, was based on her love of horror movies. In wrestling, there is a “heel” character, who portrays the villain, and a “face” who is the hero in the ring and who the crowd normally cheer on. “My character used to be a heel, but as I grew with Annabelle, she became a face,” she said. ‘My character is the opposite of me’ Harley Tedds/WAW Annabelle said her character helped her “come out of my shell and do what I do” She added that the character meant so much to her as she had had it “since the age of seven” and it had helped her confidence grow. “Annabelle is very outgoing and able to be in front of an audience and feel confident, whereas I am not and keep to myself,” she said. “When I go out there, I have the mindset I’m not Maddie, I am Annabelle, and that’s why I am able to go out there and do what I do. “It’s just nice to be able to switch into something that makes me feel so comfortable.” ‘The dream is WWE’ Annabelle’s dream is to perform for the largest wrestling promoter in the world – WWE. Despite stating she had a long way to go to get there, she added she “can’t wait to show people what she can do”. Fellow wrestler Mollz has been working with Annabelle since the start of her career and believes she could make it all the way. “When it comes to wrestling Annabelle, it’s an absolute dream – every time, she’s so agile and able, she’s one of my favourite people to wrestle with,” Mollz said.
