  2. How to Increase Your Inventory Space in Sugardew Island How to Increase Your Inventory Space in Sugardew Island One of my initial gripes with Sugardew Island—with any cozy farming sim out there—is the lack of inventory space. In the early game, you’re battling with yourself to retain some control over how much and what you carry. You have enough room for a handful of seeds, tools, and perhaps some energy bars to keep you working smoothly all day. But what then? What happens when your backpack is full? Well, you’re kind of out of luck until you learn how to upgrade your inventory in Sugardew Island! How to Upgrade Your Backpack in Sugardew Island Screenshot by Insider Gaming As always, especially in the early game, the answer is Tomte. Once you’ve accumulated enough money, which in this case means 2,500 Sugardew for the initial inventory upgrade in Sugardew Island. After that, expect to pay more. The second backpack upgrade sets you back 20,000 Sugardew—a tidy sum that’ll take you the better part of…well, a long time to accumulate. Every inventory space upgrade in the game increases your total bag space by a single row. It’s a small amount, all things considered, but that additional space does add up and leaves you with plenty of room to collect crops, resources, and whatever else you find lying around the ground! Related: How to Make Money Fast in Sugardew Island How to Afford the Inventory Space Expansion in Sugardew Island As you start with a mere six slots in your backpack, you definitely want to prioritize a bag upgrade sooner rather than later. The first upgrade increases your space up to 12 slots, and the huge bag expansion brings the total up to 18 slots. Shoot for the latter! To earn the money necessary: Sell just about everything you can get your hands on, from materials like weeds and rocks to harvestable crops such as corn and cucumbers. When investing in new crops to plant and nourish, opt for those that produce multiple harvests, such as corn, which you can gather numerous times before the plant dies. While we recommend that you eventually buy fertilizer, start by focusing on vegetable seeds. They offer more bang for your buck in the beginning! What’s your favorite upgrade in any game, *******? Scottish kebab pie crowned *** ‘pie of pies’ Scottish kebab pie crowned *** ‘pie of pies’ ****** Brown BBC Scotland, Edinburgh and East reporter MARTIN ELLIOTT Christine and Paul Boyle from Boghall Butchers with their winning pies at the 2025 British Pie Awards A Scottish butcher’s kebab pie has taken the top spot as “pie of pies” at the British Pie Awards. The fusion pie, made by Boghall Butchers of Bathgate in West Lothian, was crowned supreme champion at the event in Melton Mowbray, Leicestershire. The awards, hosted in the home of the pork pie, saw the unique pie beat 900 entries from across the ***. Among them were a chicken tikka pie, a pie flower salmon chaï-matchaï, a Caribbean-style jerk spiced turkey pie with cranberry sauce and a butternut and malabar pie. MARTIN ELLIOTT Senior judge Mike Holling with Matthew O’Callaghan – chairman of the Melton Pork Pie Association during the judging Christine and Paul Boyle’s award-winning pie has a doner kebab filling made from chicken, beef and a chilli marinade with a sweet chilli sauce. The couple, of Boghall Butchers, take the title of supreme champion from Middleton-In-Teesdale Fish and Chip Shop which won with its minted Wensleydale lamb and potato pie last year. Senior judge Mike Holling described the kebab pie as having an excellent overall bake and presentation, amazing pastry, a filling which was tasty and well-seasoned, that “definitely had the wow factor”. Following their win, the supreme champions will be invited to Japan, to showcase the winning pie as part of the British food week in October at the Hankyu Department Store in Osaka. This year, the judging panel included representatives from Selfridges, M&S and upmarket department store Fortnum and Mason, as well as food writers, a Great British Bake Off winner, chefs and pie experts. MARTIN ELLIOTT Inside the winning kebab pie Pies have been with around since the Middle Ages when they were called coffyns. At that time the poor ate pies made from the entrails of venison, which are called umbles – hence the expression ‘to eat umble pie”. Matthew O’Callaghan, chairman of the Melton Pork Pie Association and host of the British Pie Awards, said: “The pie is Britain’s most important contribution to world food heritage. “The British eat over £1bn of pies every year, hot-cold, sweet-savoury and now gluten free, vegan, fusion etc. “These awards celebrate the skills and ingenuity of all those involved in pie-making, from traditional recipes to more exotic creations, it’s been wonderful to be immersed in the collected passion for pies – traditional British fare, often showcased with a modern twist.” Source link #Scottish #kebab #pie #crowned #pie #pies Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content]
  4. One of World’s Top Game Creators Who Worked on the Original Series Was Worried Baldur’s Gate 3 Will Sink the Franchise One of World’s Top Game Creators Who Worked on the Original Series Was Worried Baldur’s Gate 3 Will Sink the Franchise Baldur’s Gate 3 is now one of the most successful RPGs in gaming history. The game has sold millions of copies and won multiple awards. But before Larian Studios came in and saved the day for the franchise and us, the fans, Baldur’s Gate faced an uncertain future. The franchise could’ve ended up very differently. | Image Credit: Larian Studios Veteran RPG designer Chris Avellone was worried about the idea of a new Baldur’s Gate game. Known for his work on Planescape: Torment and Fallout: New Vegas, Avellone was part of the development of the canceled Baldur’s Gate 3: The ****** Hound and it left him doubtful about whether the next game in the series could live up to expectations. Seven years later, we can say that it did. Larian Studios knocked it out of the park. Baldur’s Gate 3 was very different back then It’s not really a surprise that it got canceled. | Credit: Larian Studios Before Larian Studios took over the franchise, another version of Baldur’s Gate 3 was in development at ****** Isle Studios. Titled The ****** Hound, this iteration was meant to continue the legacy of BioWare’s original games but ultimately never saw completion. Chris Avellone, who was involved in the project, admitted that he struggled to get excited about it. Yes. I worked on Baldur’s Gate 3 (the one by ****** Isle Studios), but it didn’t share much in common with the original franchise, so even though I was working on it, it was difficult to get as excited about it as the Baldur’s Gate franchise itself. Back in 2018, Avellone spoke to PCGamesN and noted that the game’s story, characters, and overall direction felt disconnected from what made the Baldur’s Gate series special. He noted that he was scared it would make it difficult for both developers and potential players to embrace it as a true sequel. That version of the game never came out, so we’ll never know. For years, the idea of a true Baldur’s Gate 3 felt like a fantasy. Avellone believed fans still wanted closure in the form of a trilogy, but he also acknowledged that delivering a worthy sequel was an immense challenge. Many RPGs attempted to capture Baldur’s Gate’s magic, yet few truly succeeded. Even games Avellone worked on, like Pillars of Eternity, struggled to replicate the charm of BioWare’s classics. In 2023, Larian Studios changed the RPG genre forever And this success is going to pave the future. | Image Credit: Larian Studios Despite Avellone’s past concerns, Larian Studios defied all expectations with Baldur’s Gate 3. The game became a cultural phenomenon, bringing CRPGs back into the mainstream. The studio leveraged its experience from Divinity: Original Sin 2 and used an Early Access model to fine-tune the game over three years. Larian’s gamble on Baldur’s Gate 3 paid off massively, both critically and financially. The game won multiple Game of the Year awards in 2023. By the end of 2024, it had sold over 15 million copies and generated approximately $260 million in profit (via IGN), cementing itself as one of the most successful RPGs in history. Larian’s approach to Baldur’s Gate 3 is a masterclass in RPG development. Larian prioritized this because, without the constraints of publishers demanding microtransactions or rushed deadlines, the devs could focus on making a game that resonated with players. Swen Vincke told us all about it in his The Game Awards 2024 speech. Baldur’s Gate 3‘s success may be difficult to replicate, but it does provide valuable lessons for the industry. Looking back, it’s remarkable how close the Baldur’s Gate franchise came to fading into obscurity. Thanks to Larian Studios’ dedication and expertise, the franchise didn’t just survive, it’s back and thriving. 5. Pakistan asks ‘******** foreigners’ to leave by March 31 Pakistan asks ‘******** foreigners’ to leave by March 31 Pakistan’s interior ministry has asked all “******** foreigners” and Afghan Citizen Card holders to leave the country before March 31, warning they would otherwise be deported from April 1. Pakistan has in the past blamed militant attacks and crimes on Afghan citizens, who form the largest portion of migrants in the country. Afghanistan has rejected the accusations. “Pakistan has been a gracious host and continues to fulfil its commitments and obligations as a responsible state,” the country’s interior ministry said in a statement. “It is reiterated that individuals staying in Pakistan will have to fulfil all legal formalities.” Pakistan launched its repatriation drive of foreign citizens, most of whom are Afghan, in 2023 but had said they were first focusing on foreigners with no legal documentation. More than 800,000 Afghans hold an Afghan Citizen Card in Pakistan, according to United Nations data. Another roughly 1.3 million are formally registered with the Pakistan government and hold a separate Proof of Residence card. The statement did not specify how PoR holders would be affected. The UN says that more than 800,000 Afghans have returned to Afghanistan from Pakistan since the repatriation drive began and that in total Pakistan hosted about 2.8 million Afghan refugees who crossed the border during 40 years of conflict in their homeland. Among those are tens of thousands of Afghans in the process for resettlement to the United States and its allies following their withdrawal from Afghanistan in 2021 as the Taliban took over. 7. Kennedy and influencers bash seed oils, baffling nutrition scientists Kennedy and influencers bash seed oils, baffling nutrition scientists Until recently, most Americans had never heard the term “seed oils,” even though they’ve likely cooked with and consumed them for decades. It’s the catchy description coined by internet influencers, wellness gurus and some politicians to refer to common cooking oils — think canola, soybean and corn oil — that have long been staples in many home kitchens. Those fiery critics refer to the top refined vegetable oils as “the hateful eight” and claim that they’re fueling inflammation and high rates of chronic diseases like obesity and diabetes. Trusted news and daily delights, right in your inbox See for yourself — The Yodel is the go-to source for daily news, entertainment and feel-good stories. Robert F. Kennedy Jr., the new health secretary, has said Americans are being “unknowingly poisoned” by seed oils and has called for fast-food restaurants to return to using beef tallow, or rendered animal ****, in their fryers instead. In response, some food-makers have stripped seed oils from their products and restaurants like the salad chain Sweetgreen have removed them from their menus. Many Americans say they now avoid seed oils, according to a recent survey International Food Information Council, an industry trade group. The seed oil discussion has exasperated nutrition scientists, who say decades of research confirms the health benefits of consuming such oils, especially in place of alternatives such as butter or lard. “I don’t know where it came from that seed oils are bad,” said Martha Belury, an Ohio State University food science professor. In a Senate hearing Thursday, Dr. Marty Makary, nominated to lead the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, called for a closer review of the products. “I think seed oils are a good example of where we could benefit from a consolidation of the scientific evidence,” he said. What are seed oils? Simply put, they are oils extracted from plant seeds. They include eight commonly targeted by critics: canola, corn, cottonseed, grapeseed, soybean, sunflower, safflower and rice bran. Seed oils are typically made by pressing or crushing the seeds and then processing them further with chemicals and heat to remove elements that can leave the oil cloudy or with an unpleasant taste or odor. The result of such refining is a neutral-tasting oil that is inexpensive, shelf-stable and able to be heated at a high temperature without smoking, said Eric Decker, a food science professor at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. By contrast, olive oil and avocado oil are considered fruit oils. They’re often cold-pressed, which retains many of the plant-based compounds that benefit health — but also makes the oils more expensive and prone to smoking at high heat. Seed oils are composed mostly of unsaturated fatty acids, including monounsaturated and polyunsaturated ****. Most seed oils are high in one type of fatty acid, omega-6, and low in another type, omega-3. Those fatty acids are essential for human health, but our bodies don’t make them on their own, so we must get them from foods. What are the claims about seed oils and health? Critics of seed oils make a range of claims that many scientists say are not borne out by research. Some critics contend that the way the oils are produced leaves behind toxic byproducts of a chemical called hexane. Hexane is considered hazardous in a gas form, but Decker said the hexane used as a liquid solvent to extract the oil is evaporated off and that the residue that remains “is very low and would not present a risk.” Another common claim is that the seed oils’ high omega-6 and low omega-3 composition causes an imbalance that may increase the risk of chronic conditions by boosting inflammation in the body. Belury, who has studied fatty acids for three decades, says that claim is based on an oversimplification and misunderstanding of the science. Studies have shown that increased intake of linoleic acid, the most common omega-6, does not significantly affect concentrations of inflammatory markers in the blood, she said. “Scientists who study omega-6 and omega-3 think we need both,” Belury said. “Seed oils do not increase acute or chronic inflammation markers.” In addition, research from the American Heart Association and others has consistently shown that plant-based oils reduce so-called bad cholesterol, lowering the risk of heart disease and stroke, especially compared with sources high in saturated ****. That’s found in new research from Brigham and Women’s Hospital scientists as well. A study of more than 200,000 adults over more than 30 years released Thursday found that people who ate the highest amounts of butter had a 15% higher risk of dying than those who ate the least. People who ate the most plant-based oils — including seed oils — had a 16% lower risk than those who ate the least. Dr. Daniel Wang, who led the research, said new modeling data suggests that swapping less than a tablespoon a day of butter for equal calories of plant-based oils could lower premature deaths from ******* and overall mortality by 17%. Such a small daily change could result in “a substantial benefit,” Wang said. Seed oil consumption has risen Groups like the Seed Oil Free Alliance, which charges firms to certify their products are free of the oils, note that seed oil consumption in the U.S. has soared in recent decades and that they provide empty calories that “displace other, more nutritious foods.” Corey Nelson, co-founder of the group, said that just as consumers can buy low-sodium and low-sugar versions of foods, they should be able to choose products that contain no seed oils, if they wish. Food scientists agree that consumption of seed oils has increased, but they say that’s because they’re widely used in fried and fast foods and ultraprocessed foods, which make up nearly three-quarters of the U.S. food supply. Those foods, which have been linked to a host of health problems, also include high levels of refined grains, added sugars and sodium. There’s no evidence that the seed oils themselves are responsible for poor health outcomes, experts said. Consumers concerned about seed oils should eat fewer ultraprocessed foods. They should seek medical advice to personalize their consumption of the oils, with people using a variety of oils depending on their health status, Decker said. Research shows olive oil is the healthiest choice, so people should use it “as their cooking style and pocketbook allows,” he noted. At the same time, they can boost consumption of healthy omega-3s by eating more fish like tuna and salmon. Both proponents and detractors of seed oils agree on one thing: More nutrition research is needed to explore nuances and resolve long-simmering issues. In the meantime, scientists said a return to beef tallow, with its high levels of saturated ****, isn’t the answer. “There is no evidence to indicate that beef tallow is healthier than seed oils,” Decker wrote in an email. “Remember, tallow is also processed to purify the ****.” ___ The Associated Press Health and Science Department receives support from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute’s Science and Educational Media Group and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. 8. Marvel Rivals Players Finally Acknowledge the Single Worst Fear of Every Tank Main Marvel Rivals Players Finally Acknowledge the Single Worst Fear of Every Tank Main Sometimes playing Marvel Rivals can feel like a full-time job, especially if you are the main breadwinner in your family. Because just like your real-life dynamics, you sometimes have to carry the weight of all of your teammates inside the game, and it can take a toll on you, particularly if you are a Vanguard player. Marvel Rivals has a lot of different characters | Netease Games There are three different classes of characters in this hero-shooter game. And the one that’s supposed to be tank, called the Vanguards, are undoubtedly the most underrated of them all. To begin with, not many players out there think of playing a tank character, and it’s a nightmare come true for those who do. What it feels like to be a Vanguard main in Marvel Rivals Groot, one of the Vanguards in the game | Netease Games We get it; there are different characters in the game, and you are free to choose from any of them. But helping form a better team than just focusing on your sole gameplay might help you win a game or two here and there. Duelists and strategists are the more commonly picked classes of characters in Marvel Rivals. The problem starts when players who choose these classes end up not supporting their Vanguard teammates, who more often than not are just one in the team of five. Reacting to the struggles of these players, a user posted the following thread on the game’s official subreddit. User u/REDSP1R1T replied to the above post saying how playing Vanguard is a ‘thankless job’, and it is possibly the truest thing that has been said on Marvel Rival’s subreddit in a while. Ever since the game’s launch back in December last year, there have been many problems with how players choose to form the team, and Vanguards have been overlooked ever since. The biggest problem being a tank main in Rivals Being a Vanguard comes with a lot of problems in Marvel Rivals | Netease Games There are problems that go deeper than being the sole tank player in your team of 5. When it comes to a game like Marvel Rivals, with different game modes all requiring different strategies and a little luck in order to win, it becomes important to play together properly as a team. Unfortunately, this simple logic flies over a lot of players’ heads, mainly duelists. Being the sole Vanguard on your team, you are probably smart enough to understand that the objective should be to create and maintain space on the objective area of the round, something that unfortunately you are always left alone to do while duelists and support players are out there getting their damage and healing statistics up. It hasn’t been a long time since Marvel Rivals came out, and it will be a few months before it cements its place in the industry. Hopefully, until then, players will realize that supporting their tank players is possibly the best way to go about things if they wish to win the match. 10. ‘You can now jailbreak your AMD CPU’ — Google researchers release kit to exploit microcode vulnerability in Ryzen Zen 1 to Zen 4 chips ‘You can now jailbreak your AMD CPU’ — Google researchers release kit to exploit microcode vulnerability in Ryzen Zen 1 to Zen 4 chips A team of Google researchers working with AMD recently discovered a major CPU exploit on Zen-based processors. The exploit allows anyone with local admin privileges to write and push custom microcode updates to affected CPUs. The same Google team has released the full deep-dive on the exploit, including how to write your own microcode. Anyone can now effectively jailbreak their own AMD CPUs. The exploit affects all AMD CPUs using the Zen 1 to Zen 4 architectures. AMD released a BIOS patch plugging the exploit shortly after its discovery, but any of the above CPUs with a BIOS patch before 2024-12-17 will be vulnerable to the exploit. Though a malicious actor wishing to abuse this vulnerability needs an extremely high level of access to a system to exploit it, those concerned should update their or their organization’s systems to the most recent BIOS update. You can now jailbreak your AMD CPU! We’ve just released a full microcode toolchain, with source code and tutorials. [Hidden Content] 5, 2025 The vulnerability is based on microcode, the low-level instructions determining how a CPU performs calculations. AMD and Intel have built their own custom RISC instruction sets (similar to alternative ISAs like RISC-V and ARM), which then internally contribute to a complex instruction set; in AMD and Intel’s case, x86. Both companies create their custom microcode specifically for their CPU architectures and have built-in systems to push microcode updates at runtime if a vulnerability is found later. The alternative would be hard-locking the microcode at fabrication, redesigning chips from the ground up, and issuing recalls if severe enough vulnerabilities were discovered. The AMD vulnerability, named “EntrySign”, allows users to send custom microcode to any Zen 1 to Zen 4 CPU, changing how the processor runs and allowing users to do anything from accessing internal CPU buffers, strengthen or weaken security for VMs, and more. When the bug was first revealed, AMD’s bulletin focused on EPYC server-grade CPUs and how bad actors could make secure links to remote client PCs accessing a larger server lose their SEV-based protection. Now, it is clear that the microcode exploit spreads to many more CPUs than just EPYC and that the possibilities expand far beyond simply making a secure link unsecured. Google engineer Tavis Ormandy bullishly declares that the vulnerability allows anyone to “jailbreak your AMD CPU” in an X post sharing his technical breakdown. Microcode updates are double-checked against a series of strings and keys, signed by AMD, and confirmed against a hard-coded public key into the CPU itself. The EntrySign exploit works because AMD uses the AES-CMAC function (a message authentication code) as a cryptographic hash function. CMAC being used in this out-of-spec manner allowed Google’s researchers to reverse engineer the security keys, preventing end users from pushing their unsigned microcode updates to the CPU (helped in no small part by AMD reusing a publicly-accessible NIST example key as its security key). Google’s Bughunters security team published a full technical outline of the vulnerability and the path they took to exploit it on Google’s blog. Those with an unpatched AMD CPU from Zen 1 to Zen 4 can use Google’s toolkit to jailbreak the processor themselves and share their findings and use cases with the research team. With the full details of the EntrySign vulnerability fully public, caution should be exercised with unusual AMD CPUs. Buying any used/second-hand Ryzen chip from the Ryzen 7000 series or earlier now carries a non-zero risk of an unexpected payload of malicious microcode (h/t edzieba commenting on our previous coverage). However, this is seriously and extremely unlikely. Mysterious old Ryzen chips join mysterious flash drives in the list of things to not plug into your computer without protection. Wadokai karate enthusiast Mairi Kerin, 42, hit and kicked the man after he told a shopkeeper he was there “to take your money”. It would later emerge the man was armed with a knife and a firearm. CCTV footage showed him lift a ****** bag towards the shop worker. In a split-second manoeuvre, Ms Kerin grabbed his arm and aimed a kick at his shin. He ran for the door as Ms Kerin followed close behind. Ms Kerin has now been given a police chief superintendent commendation award by West Mercia Police. Bad back, no problem On the day of the robbery, Ms Kerin said she had a bad back and sore feet from a new pair of heeled boots. “I had a bit of a bad back so I was quite slow and as I got out of the car I noticed this person all covered up and thought: ‘You look like you’re going to rob a shop’. “I remember telling myself you can’t think that about people, can’t pigeonhole people like that. I thought that maybe he’s just got a bike somewhere, he’s been out riding or whatever.” Ms Kerin was standing at the counter when the man entered the shop and confronted the worker. She added: “I thought something was a little off. I heard the shopkeeper ask ‘why did you put something against the door?’ and I heard him reply, ‘because I’m going to take your money’. He said it really cool, really calm. “I had been getting ready to pay, so I put my phone and my keys away and then it all happened really quickly. “He stepped forward. I could see his pockets were full and I thought he had weapons, my eyes were glued to his pockets. I just thought if I was going to wait for whatever it was that was coming out, it would be too late. When I saw his left hand still in his pocket I took the chance. “I just grabbed his arm and kicked him in the shins. We would later find out a knife and a firearm were involved, but whatever was in the left pocket, for that moment it was not coming out.” The incident was part of several burglaries across Telford that week, police claimed. Jordan Hickman, 29, Jake Jones, 21, and an 18-year-old who could not be named for legal reasons were jailed for a combined total of 18 years for their involvement. Chief Superintendent Edd Williams said: “It was my pleasure to award Mairi with her bravery award. Her quick thinking meant that no one was harmed during this attempted robbery and no money or goods were stolen.” Broaden your horizons with award-winning British journalism. 12. How to Make Money Fast in Sugardew Island How to Make Money Fast in Sugardew Island · · March 7, 2025 Sugardew Island features multiple forms of currency, namely Sugardew and Harmony. However, you can’t spend the latter in the same way as the former, making it slightly more useful. Still, you require Harmony to progress through the game, unlocking additional quests, farmstead upgrades, and new islands to explore and rescue. But for now, let’s focus on earning money fast in Sugardew Island by acquiring as much Sugardew as humanly possible! How to Earn Sugardew in Sugardew Island First and foremost, know that everything you sell in Sugardew Island earns you a nice chunk of cash. It’s not always enough to survive on the remote island, like selling weeds, wood, or stone, but you can still rid your inventory of such junk and make a little Sugardew to reinvest into your farmstead. I do highly recommend selling weeds. They’re trash! Screenshot by Insider Gaming More importantly, though, here’s how to earn Sugardew quickly: As you can only open your farm store once daily, ensure every shelf is fully stocked. Yeah, I broke that rule in the screenshot up top, but I was running low on crops! You want to fill every slot with something, whether a low-tier item like weeds or a high-tier item, like garlic or cucumbers. Either way, give the people something to buy! When you start to earn a regular profit, reinvest the money you receive by speaking to Tomte up north by the magical tree, as he’ll sell you a variety of seeds, such as: Carrot Seeds Wheat Seeds Cucumber Seeds Potato Seeds Garlic Seeds Corn Seeds Turnip Seeds Related: How to Save Your Game in Sugardew Island Along with a selection of handy crop seeds, Tomte also sells fertilizer that automatically waters plants and one that is infinitely more helpful, as it accelerates plant growth. Once you have the money, invest in Quick Fertilizer to keep your store stocked with fresh produce! Occasionally, customers will bring an item to the counter but aren’t ready to pull the trigger. In such cases, you have three options: Recommend (Low Chance of Success), Advise (Medium Chance of Success), and Discount (High Chance of Success). It’s a gamble, as offering a Discount guarantees a ***** but reduces the amount you’ll earn by half. It’s usually more prudent to go with Advise in the early game, as you’ll almost always guarantee the *****, earning you both Sugardew and Harmony. Once you have enough of the former, go ahead and Recommend more frequently. Do you have any additional tips to offer? We’d love to hear them! 14. AMD’s new driver adds AFMF 2.1 support for improved frame generation – and it could be a game-changer for handheld gaming PCs AMD’s new driver adds AFMF 2.1 support for improved frame generation – and it could be a game-changer for handheld gaming PCs AMD has finally introduced AFMF 2.1 in its new FSR 4 driver update Its compatible with RDNA 4, 3, and 2 GPUs, including Ryzen AI 300 series processors Performance and image stability in games on the Asus ROG Ally are improved using AFMF 2.1 AMD’s RDNA 4 GPUs are finally here, along with a new driver that adds FSR 4 support, but that’s not all – handheld gaming PCs and RDNA 3 and 2 GPU users will have a new and improved trick up their sleeve to improve performance in games. As detailed in AMD’s Adrenalin Edition release notes, AFMF 2.1 is now available in driver 25.3.1 for Radeon RX 6000, 7000, and 9070 series GPUs including Team Red’s Ryzen AI 300 series processors. This is a driver-based frame generation feature (similar to Nvidia’s new Smooth Motion) that allows gamers to force frame-gen into games that don’t have official implementation from developers. AFMF 2.1 is built to improve upon frame generation image quality along with reducing ghosting and better temporal tracking – using AFMF 1 and 2 on handheld devices like the Asus ROG Ally wasn’t an easygoing experience since ghosting, stutters, and poor image quality were common complaints from people who used it. Based on some of my early impressions, AFMF 2.1 is a good step up from its predecessor, providing a cleaner image in motion and reducing ghosting to a significant degree – this was evident in my testing of Sifu and Resident Evil 4 (pictured below), two games that have previously struggled when using AFMF with ghosting and constant frame time stutters. Fortunately, those issues have been minimized as the non-stop action in Capcom’s title isn’t interrupted by regular frame time spikes (which used to occur even when idle in-game) allowing for a much smoother handheld experience – and it’s a great sign for other games that have previously struggled with frame generation software on handheld gaming PCs. Image 1 of 2 Where’s everyone going? Bingo?(Image credit: Future/Isaiah Williams) (Image credit: Future/Isaiah Williams) Now, we just need FSR 4 to come to RDNA 3… I know FSR 4 is currently exclusive to Team Red’s new Radeon RX 9070 series, but if the new upscaling technology can find its way onto RDNA 3 hardware, handheld gamers are in for a treat. We’ve seen how close FSR 4 is to Nvidia’s DLSS 4 and its new transformer model – while it doesn’t defeat it nor match it, it’s managed to topple its fierce rivals’ previous CNN model, with greater image stability (especially in motion). AFMF 2.1 has impressed me and given me another reason to keep my ROG Ally (at least for now), and any addition of FSR 4 will likely be a showstopper. Sign up for breaking news, reviews, opinion, top tech deals, and more. Its performance mode is a prime example of the significant enhancements, which reminded me of how great DLSS 4’s performance mode looks – imagining how this would perform on a handheld gaming PC is the stuff of dreams for me. The only strong competition AMD has for producing chips for handhelds is Intel – while the MSI Claw 8 AI +’s Ultra Core 7 258V processor is more powerful than the Z1 Extreme, the current version of XeSS (Intel’s upscaling tech) likely can’t match up to FSR 4. In my opinion, Team Red’s new upscaling method is the final piece of the puzzle needed to make handhelds like the ROG Ally complete – let’s just hope it can be done… You may also like… Source link #AMDs #driver #adds #AFMF #support #improved #frame #generation #gamechanger #handheld #gaming #PCs Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content] For verified travel tips and real support, visit: [Hidden Content]
  15. How six Bulgarians did Russia’s dirty work from the *** How six Bulgarians did Russia’s dirty work from the *** Chris Bell BBC News Investigations Tom Beal BBC News Investigations Daniel De Simone BBC News Investigations Correspondent BBC Roman Dobrokhotov is used to looking over his shoulder. The Russian journalist’s investigations into Vladimir Putin’s regime – one of which unmasked the agents responsible for the 2018 Salisbury poisonings – have made him a target of the Kremlin. But as the Insider editor waited on the tarmac to board a commercial flight from Budapest to Berlin in 2021, where he was to give evidence in a ******* trial, he didn’t notice the brunette woman stood behind him. He thought nothing of it when she took a seat close to his. Nor did he see the camera strapped to her shoulder, quietly recording. Metropolitan Police handout Grabs of Roman Dobrokhotov onboard the flight were retrieved by police from a surveillance report That morning, the woman had flown from Luton to Budapest to locate the mark. Dobrokhotov’s flight information had been obtained in advance. As the aircraft approached its destination, the woman, a Bulgarian – Katrin Ivanova – sent a message on Telegram. Her partner, Biser Dzhambazov, with whom she lived in Harrow, north London, was waiting for her and Dobrokhotov in Berlin. Another woman, an airport worker identified only as Cvetka, had already flown a ****** run of the route. Waiting in Berlin, she was another pair of eyes. They’d lost him. Operational for years, the cell tracked Russia’s enemies across Europe. Its leaders plotted honeytraps, kidnap and ******* in service of the Kremlin. Following a trial, three members were convicted on 7 March at the Old Bailey in London for their part in the conspiracy. Three more had already pleaded guilty. “We’re in a situation where only some of us will survive,” Dobrokhotov would later tell the BBC. “It will be either Russian journalists and human rights watchers, or Vladimir Putin and his killers.” Watching events in Berlin unfold from the *** was the final member of the Telegram group, another Bulgarian, Orlin Roussev, 47. Metropolitan Police handout An associate recalls Orlin Roussev as a man fascinated by espionage. An email address associated with him includes the 007 sobriquet of the world’s most famous secret agent. He moved to Britain in 2009, before he set up a company involved in signals intelligence – the interception of communications or electronic signals. When police officers searched the faded 33-room Great Yarmouth former guest house in which he lived with his wife and stepson, they discovered, in the assessment of one expert, “a vast amount of technical surveillance equipment which could be used to enable intrusive surveillance”. They might have been less dry. It was an Aladdin’s cave disguised as a cluttered seaside relic; sophisticated communications interception devices worth £175,000; radio frequency jammers; covert cameras hidden in smoke detectors, a pen, sunglasses, even men’s ties; a horde of fake identity documents and equipment to make more. An encrypted hard drive was left open. Telegram conversations were visible on Roussev’s laptop. Among the masses of equipment, police discovered the business card of a one-time finance executive, Jan Marsalek. Metropolitan Police handout When police searched Orlin Roussev’s office, a webpage entitled “hacking more secure portable storage devices” was open Roussev first met Jan Marsalek in 2015, introduced, he recalled, by a mutual acquaintance he had met at the offices of a British investor and wealth adviser. In emails from that time seen by the BBC, Marsalek enlists Roussev’s help in acquiring a secure mobile phone from a ******** company. PP Muenchen Jan Marsalek, a former finance executive linked to Russian intelligence, was directing operations using the alias ‘Rupert Ticz’, prosecutors said Then, Jan Marsalek was the respected chief operating officer of ******* payments processing company Wirecard. While reports criticising Wirecard’s business practices had started to appear in the Financial Times, the company’s reputation as a star performer in the European fintech sector, valued in excess of £20 billion at its peak, was intact. Now, he was directing operations as Roussev’s controller on the run from fraud charges – the subject of an Interpol red notice – following the company’s 2020 collapse. Together, the pair conceived operations targeting journalists, dissidents, politicians, even Ukrainian soldiers thought to be training at a US military installation in Stuttgart. They discussed selling US drones captured from Ukrainian battlefields to China. And they did it for Russia. Linked to the state’s intelligence services, Marsalek is believed to be hiding in Moscow. He faces no charges in the ***. The group Roussev employed, all Bulgarians, were not the spies of popular imagination. Alongside Dzhambazov, a medical courier, and Ivanova, a laboratory assistant, he employed a beautician with a salon in Acton, Vanya Gaberova; a painter and decorator, Tihomir Ivanchev; plus an MMA fighter nicknamed “The Destroyer” who wore his fights on his face, Ivan Stoyanov. Metropolitan Police handout and social media Clockwise from top left: Orlin Roussev, Katrin Ivanova, Ivan Stoyanov, Biser Dzhambazov, Vanya Gaberova and Tihomir Ivanchev A neighbour who knew two of the accused was sceptical they could be guilty. They were too stupid and didn’t know anything, the neighbour asserted, though they admired the fighter’s “enormous calves”. But they were not ineffective – Roman Dobrokhotov recognised none of the group’s faces when pictures were shown to him by police. The group operated a clear hierarchy. Roussev reported to Marsalek, who reported to his “friends in Russia”. Roussev managed the rest of the Bulgarians, who he referred to as his “minions”, Dzhambazov chief among them. “There are no bosses here,” Dzambhazov wrote, as he issued instructions to Ivanchev. Nonetheless, “minion” was attached to the decorator’s number in Dzhambazov’s phone. Metropolitan Police handout Katrin Ivanova told the jury she did not know Biser Dzhambazov and Vanya Gaberova were in a relationship behind her back The group dynamics were complicated. Dzhambazov and Ivanova were in a long term relationship and lived together. Gaberova and Ivanchev were in a relationship until 2022. But it was Dzhambazov and Gaberova police found in bed together when they burst into the beautician’s northwest London flat in February 2023. Between August 2020 and February 2023, Marsalek and Roussev exchanged 78,747 messages on the Telegram messaging app. They reveal at least six operations the spy cell was tasked with over a ******* of years – four of which targeted individuals who were enemies of Putin’s regime. As well as Dobrokhotov, the investigative journalist Christo Grozev was watched at home in Vienna. Cameras in the window of a rented apartment nearby were trained on his front door. Metropolitan Police handout Propped up with a stand and a water bottle, a phone camera is trained on Christo Grozev’s door in Vienna He was tailed on flights and photographed in a Valencia hotel eating breakfast with co-founder of the Bellingcat investigative collective Elliott Higgins. A thorn in the side of Russian intelligence services, he was observed in Bulgaria meeting with an arms trader who had been the victim of an assassination attempt Grozev linked to the Russian state. Gaberova was instructed to befriend him. In Montenegro, the cell searched for Kirill Kachur, who had worked for the Investigative Committee of Russia until he fell foul of the Kremlin. They were anxious to impress. A second Russian intelligence team circled, including a chain-smoking blonde woman referred to only as “Red Sparrow”. Kirill Kachur/YouTube Marsalek and Roussev discussed the kidnap and ******* of both Grozev and Kachur. It wasn’t an empty threat – a colleague of Kachur’s had separately been taken to Moscow. A former Kazakh politician living with refugee status in London, Bergey Ryskaliyev, was targeted at a luxury apartment in Hyde Park. Further reconnaissance took place at his home. Bergey Ryskaliyev/Facebook Ivan Stoyanov, who acknowledged his part in the conspiracy, was spotted parked in a Toyota Prius outside his address. Suspicious, an assistant of Mr Ryskaliyev noted the licence plate. When confronted, the MMA fighter claimed he was working for a Kensington hospital, delivering tests. The next day, an NHS logo had been placed in the windscreen. Prosecutors said providing information on a political dissident like Ryskaliyev “is predicated on Russian attempts to control diplomatic relations”. Indeed, Marsalek would further task Roussev with another project: a hare-brained scheme to initiate a staged protest at the Kazakh Embassy featuring blood dropped from drones, an astroturf human rights campaign involving Just Stop Oil, a letter addressed to the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, advertising on London buses and unrealised deepfake pornographic video of the Kazakh president’s son. Russia would then help nervous Kazakh security services “uncover” the “activists” responsible. In February 2022, Telegram exchanges between Marsalek and Roussev reveal a preoccupation with following Christo Grozev to Kyiv, where he was believed to have travelled. Their offers to help were rebuffed. Fewer than three weeks later, Russian tanks surged across Ukraine’s eastern, southern and northern borders. Later that year, Marsalek asked Roussev if one of the cell’s three IMSI grabbers – sophisticated communications interception equipment – could be deployed to spy on Ukrainian soldiers in Germany. Roussev promised to retrieve it from his “Indiana Jones garage”, where it was “gathering dust”. Metropolitan Police handout Police found a number of IMSI grabbers at Orlin Roussev’s Great Yarmouth address Marsalek returned to the idea repeatedly. By February 2023, Roussev and Marsalek were plotting to send Dzhambazov and “one more person” to Stuttgart, where they believed Ukrainian soldiers to be training on Patriot missile systems. Had they successfully deployed and captured Ukrainian troops’ mobile phone data as planned, they might have used it to pinpoint those same troops on the battlefield – leading Russian forces to Western-supplied Ukrainian air defences. “This was espionage activity of the highest level of seriousness,” prosecutor Alison Morgan KC told the jury at the Old Bailey. Before their plans could be put into action, they were arrested – Dzhambazov, Ivanova, Gaberova and Stoyanov in London, Roussev in his guest house. Orlin Roussev was arrested in Great Yarmouth on 8 February 2023 Though Ivanchev identified himself to police outside Gaberova’s flat, he would not be arrested for another year. In his first police interview, he told officers he had spoken to MI5 in the interim. The interview was paused. Police bodycam footage shows Tihomir Ivanchev outside Vanya Gaberova’s flat None of the six denied their actions. Roussev, Dzhambazov and Stoyanov pleaded guilty before trial. Ivanova, Gaberova and Ivanchev denied knowing they were working for Russia. The jury disagreed. Ivanova, Gaberova and Ivanchev were found guilty after the jury deliberated for over 32 hours. Ivanova was also found guilty of possessing multiple false identity documents. They could face up to 14 years in prison. They will be sentenced in May, But it is not the end. “If there is no regime change, there will be new and new teams of people who come to kill or kidnap you,” Roman Dobrokhotov told the BBC. “This is this actually something that motivates us to work. “From the very beginning, I was sure it was something directly controlled by Vladimir Putin. “In his dictatorship you would never take responsibility on your own to do such political stuff. “You’d always have a direct order from the president. “Putin is a psychopath who has no borders,” he said. 16. Passive investing movement gets its Hollywood moment Passive investing movement gets its Hollywood moment A new documentary titled “Tune Out The Noise” brings together some of the academic heavyweights whose work reshaped the financial industry and helped lower costs for all investors. The film, made by Academy Award-winning documentarian Errol Morris, chronicles the rise of academic finance in the middle of the twentieth century and how it led to a ***** in passive investing and to the creation of Dimensional Fund Advisors, which now has more than $700 billion in assets under management. Morris and David Booth, Dimensional chairman and the namesake of the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, spoke to CNBC’s Bob Pisani on Thursday ahead of the film’s New York premier. “It’s really about how markets work and how different that is from people’s intuition or perception,” Booth told Pisani. In addition to Booth and some Dimensional executives, the film features interviews with many of the biggest names in financial academia, including Myron Scholes, Robert Merton, Eugene Fama and Kenneth French. The work of those academics, who have all had roles at Dimensional over the years, helped push the investment world away from traditional stock picking and toward passive, low-cost strategies. That trend extends beyond Dimensional, with firms like Vanguard using those insights to build their own businesses. “People are getting a much better deal now than when I started in 1971,” Booth said. Morris’ previous work includes “The Fog of War,” which won the Academy Award for best documentary feature in 2004, as well as “The Thin Blue Line.” “One of the reasons I became a filmmaker, or a documentary filmmaker, whatever you want to call it, is I like to hear people telling stories. And this is filled with it,” Morris said of his new film. 17. Sam Mitchell shut his eyes as Sicily slayed the Swans Sam Mitchell shut his eyes as Sicily slayed the Swans Hawthorn coach Sam Mitchell admits he couldn’t bring himself to watch James Sicily put the finishing touches on a tough win over Sydney in the AFL season opener. It’s no surprise, given the Hawks’ skipper had minutes earlier given off a goal to a teammate with a risky handpass at the top of the square in driving rain, which almost came unstuck. So when Sicily received a free-kick with less than five minutes left and lined up to take a shot on his non-preferred foot, Mitchell turned away. “I wasn’t sure about the left-foot snap. I’ve never seen him do one of those, I couldn’t watch it,” Mitchell said after his side’s 14.12 (96) to 11.10 (76) win. “He put it straight through, they told me, so I was happy with that.” Hawthorn had pushed the “Sicily button” at three-quarter time, sending their most dangerous and versatile weapon forward as they clung to a five-point lead. It proved a winning gambit as Sicily provided a constant threat during a three-goals-to-none final term that gave the Hawks a perfect start to the season. James Worpel’s ankle injury just before halftime had forced a shuffling of the deck, with Josh Weddle shifted forward when substitute Sam Frost took up a spot in defence. Sicily had been brilliant in defence in the first half before Sydney gave Will Hayward a defensive role on the Hawks’ skipper during the third term. “Sicily was getting sat on by that point,” Mitchell said of the three-quarter time decision. “When he goes forward he generally has a bit of an impact and that was the call that was made by the coaches, so I thought they handled that situation. “But I wouldn’t say we have a premeditated policy on Sicily. We sort of just pick the team that will win the moment.” Mabior Chol served as the Hawks’ main tall target in attack against Sydney, with Mitch Lewis (knee) and Calsher Dear (back) both out injured. Mitchell is eager to add another tall to his forward mix and doesn’t always want to call on Sicily. But the arrival of high-profile defensive recruits Tom Barrass and Josh Battle has given him greater opportunity to do so. Both made strong starts to life at their new club against the Swans. “I thought Battle just looked comfortable … he played like he’s been playing with us for a long time,” Mitchell said. “And big TB won a lot of key contests. Even the ones he lost were really tough ones to win. “I thought he got better and better as the game went on. Late he looked a bit tired and then he just found a way to take a couple of intercept marks that were really important. “It was a pretty good first game in the brown and gold for those boys.” Source link #Sam #Mitchell #shut #eyes #Sicily #slayed #Swans Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content]
  18. Motorcycle Rider Ends Up In Truck Bed Motorcycle Rider Ends Up In Truck Bed Read the full story on The Auto Wire Shocking ******: Motorcycle Rider Ends Up In Truck Bed A ****** involving a motorcycle slamming into the back of a truck is almost unbelievable. In fact, had it not been caught on dashcam video, we’re not sure if many would believe what actually happened. Jay Leno throws his support behind a California bill that would eliminate smog checks for classic cars. Thankfully, ABC7 out of Los Angeles shared that footage and it’s shocking. The camera vehicle is in the lane over from the left lane on the Eastbound 210 Freeway in Irwindale as a flat bed truck is traveling slow in the left lane. The motorcycle rider apparently doesn’t see the truck and slams into the back of it, pulverizing the front of the bike. Instead of sliding along the pavement or even worse, getting caught in the rear wheels, the rider instead flips onto the bed of the truck. Not skipping a beat, the truck keeps rolling down the freeway as what’s left of the motorcycle tumbles and slides along the asphalt. By the time police arrived on the scene, someone had moved the wrecked motorcycle to the median, out of the travel lanes. But the rider was missing. Not too long after, someone called California Highway Patrol to report the rider was with the truck, which had exited the freeway. Miraculously, the rider only suffered minor injuries in the bizarre ******. That’s about the time you buy a lottery ticket, because you’re not getting any luckier. There are a few things to note about this video. First of all, this is the value of having a dashcam. They can prove without a doubt what happened in an incident, even if it’s the most unbelievable scenario ever. This video demonstrates the dangers of not paying attention to traffic in front of you as you’re riding or driving. We don’t know how the rider missed the rather large flatbed truck directly in front of him, but he obviously didn’t spot it, slamming into the thing at speed. What the rider did right was to wear protective clothing. That might have been in part what kept him from serious injury, especially his helmet but also the clothing he was wearing. 19. Level One is a new awareness-raising puzzler about diabetes that provides quite the challenge Level One is a new awareness-raising puzzler about diabetes that provides quite the challenge Level One is a challenging new puzzler coming to iOS and Android It was inspired by the experiences of developer Sam Glassenberg in caring for his daughter Over nine million people have type-one diabetes, and Level One is launched in partnership with an awareness charity When it comes to raising awareness, it seems that many charities still underestimate the reach of gaming. While we’ve seen scattered initiatives and collaborations between charities and top releases it’s still relatively uncommon. But when it does happen it can be extremely intriguing, as is the case with the upcoming colourful, time-crunching puzzler Level One. The inspiration behind Level One came from developer Sam Glassenberg and his wife’s experience with caring for their daughter JoJo after her diagnosis of type-one diabetes. Glassenberg recalls the extreme balancing act and constant injections of insulin needed, as well as constantly tracking what his daughter ate and drank. Fittingly then, despite the colourful graphics Level One is meant to be quite the challenging release. The gameplay is extremely demanding, and even a momentary lapse of attention can lead to a game over. It’s easy then to see what metaphor is being communicated here. Raising awareness Level One’s launch is also supported by diabetes awareness charity Breakthrough T1D Play which was founded by parents in the gaming industry who care for children with type-one diabetes. Considering over nine million people live with a diagnosis, and 500,000 new ones are made each week, it’s unsurprising that this is an important mission. I expect that Level One is sure to help with awareness, and given the hunger of mobile gamers for the hardcore difficulty it may be that this colourful puzzler manages to entertain as well as inform. It’s set to release on March 27th for iOS and Android, so keep an eye out for when the store pages go live and give it a try! 20. Formula 1: General Motors has 2026 entry formally approved Formula 1: General Motors has 2026 entry formally approved US car giant General Motors has had its Formula 1 entry for the 2026 season formally approved. It will name the new team after its luxury Cadillac brand. The decision to approve GM’s bid comes just over two months after the company reached an agreement in principle with F1 to enter the sport next year. F1 had previously rejected a bid from the US team Andretti, which was linked to Cadillac. But the greater commitment of GM in a new proposal put forward later in the year has convinced F1 to admit Cadillac. A joint statement from F1 and motorsport’s governing body the FIA said Cadillac’s bid had been approved “following the completion of their respective sporting, technical and commercial assessments”. The entry will be run by the US organisation TWG in a revisioning of the initial bid. The new team, which has a *** base at Silverstone, will be a joint effort between GM and TWG, with Dan Towriss, owner of US team Andretti Global, and TWG’s Mark Walter as the other key investors. Former Indycar and F1 driver Michael Andretti is no longer involved with the team he founded. His father Mario, the 1978 world champion, will be involved in an advisory capacity. Last year, TWG named Briton Graeme Lowdon, a senior figure at the Manor team that raced in F1 from 2010-16, as team principal. F1 president and CEO Stefano Domenicali said: “As we said in November, the commitment by General Motors to bring a Cadillac team to F1 was an important and positive demonstration of the evolution of our sport. “I want to thank GM and TWG for their constructive engagement over many months and look forward to welcoming the team on the grid from 2026 for what will be another exciting year for Formula 1.” F1 was swayed by key factors that it saw as differentiators over the initial Andretti bid. These were that there was a commitment to a full works team over the coming years, an agreement for an engine supply with Ferrari rather than relying on F1’s rules to secure a compulsory engine, and the commitment of GM to build its own engine in the future. An investigation into F1’s original decision to reject Andretti’s entry by the US department of justice also played a part. F1’s governing body the FIA had approved the Andretti entry before F1’s initial rejection. FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem described the decision as “a transformative moment”. Towriss said: “For the past years, we have worked hand-in-hand with GM to lay a robust foundation for an extraordinary F1 entry. “Now, with 2026 in our sights after today’s final approval from the FIA and F1, we’re accelerating our efforts – expanding our facilities, refining cutting-edge technologies and continuing to assemble top-tier talent.” GM was attracted into F1 by the new engine regulations that are being introduced next year along with new chassis rules. These will increase the proportion of power produced by the hybrid part of the engine to about 50% from the current 20% and mandate the use of fully sustainable fuels. The new rules were instrumental in attracting GM’s US rival Ford and Germany’s Audi, and persuading Honda to stay involved after initially deciding to quit F1. Ford is starting a partnership with Red Bull, which is producing its own engine from 2026, while Audi has bought the Sauber team and will rebrand it from next year. Honda is switching from Red Bull to become Aston Martin’s factory partner next season. Renault, which owns the Alpine team, has decided that continuing to produce its own engine for F1 is not cost-effective and has ended its long-running programme. Alpine will buy Mercedes engines instead from next year. Source link #Formula #General #Motors #entry #formally #approved Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content]
  21. How to Save Your Game in Sugardew Island How to Save Your Game in Sugardew Island It’s imperative that you know how to save your game in Sugardew Island. Not only does it ensure you retain all of your progress, especially regarding unlocking new islands, expanding your house, and planting and watering additional crops, but it’s a safeguard to protect your sanity. I can’t count the number of times I delved into a game and made significant progress, only for it not to save and for me to lose everything. It kills all joy. How to Save in Sugardew Island Screenshot by Insider Gaming By entering your house at any point during the day, you can walk up to the diary on the table in the very back of the room, near your bed, and there’s an option to ‘Save’ or ‘Load’ by interacting with the book. From here, you can save the game, overwrite a previous save, or keep a selection of different save game files to ensure you can return at an earlier day should you wish to do something a little differently on your farmstead. From what I’ve gathered during my time with Sugardew Island, you can save anytime. Unlike Stardew Valley, which only saves in the morning after you sleep, Sugardew is far more forgiving. Related: Sugardew Island Achievements Guide—How to Unlock Each One Does Sugardew Island Autosave? Yes! You’ll note the game autosave periodically as you play, especially when making progress and sleeping. It’s only a single autosave file, so do not rely on the game’s mechanic. You should always manually save your game, ensuring you don’t lose progress! When to Save the Game As someone accustomed to the often unforgiving save mechanic of Stardew Valley, I tend to save every morning after sleeping. It’s become a habit. However, since the quality of life mechanic is there and ready to use, I do recommend saving periodically throughout the day, such as after planting a large number of crops, unlocking a new quest, or before opening the store for the afternoon. 22. Atomfall, the survival game that draws from classic British sci-fi | Games Atomfall, the survival game that draws from classic British sci-fi | Games The year is 1962 and you’ve just woken up in the shadow of the Windscale (now Sellafield) nuclear power station in Cumbria, five years after its catastrophic meltdown. Trapped in the sizeable quarantine zone surrounding the accident site, you must stay alive long enough to figure out how to escape – a task made rather more challenging by the presence of aggressive cultists, irradiated monsters and highly territorial terror bees. Imagine Stalker, but set in northern England, and you’re edging towards what Oxford-based developer Rebellion has in store. Fallout may seem like another obvious inspiration for this irradiated game world, but after playing a two-hour demo, it’s clear the game draws more from classic British sci-fi. Here you are, stuck in the picturesque Lake District, with its lush woodlands, gurgling rivers and dry-stone walls. But all around you are the burned-out remains of 1960s cars and tanks, abandoned farm buildings and odd sounds and symbols that suggest something extremely sinister is happening. The development team have mentioned Dr Who, The Wicker Man the novels of John Wyndham as key inspirations, and you can see it in the grubby dislocated scene all around you. Approach a phone box and pick up the ringing handset, and you may hear a disembodied voice warning you about an apparently friendly character you met up the road. Stray into a cave and a ghost-like monster comes at you, infecting you with a paranoid mind virus. This is very much the stuff of Quatermass and Jon Pertwee-era Who. Something sinister is happening … Atomfall. Photograph: Rebellion Developments It’s not long before I bump into a gang of druids stalking the undergrowth and I’m suddenly thrust into combat. But in the spirit of Stalker, and other survival games such as Escape From Tarkov, I have to rely on improvised melee weapons such as cricket bats and scythes, or on rusty guns that may or may not fire the meagre handfuls of ammo I’ve managed to accrue. The developers have said they want this game to be about grimly hanging on to life; you’re not a super-soldier. Everywhere there are little trinkets to scavenge, from apples to machine parts. When characters aren’t trying to clobber you with bats, they may offer you information or trading opportunities. It seems you’re free to wander through overgrown farms and ruined industrial buildings looking for clues about what the hell even happened here. Just watch out for the glowing greeny-blue bees nests hanging from trees – those guys are really territorial. And poisonous. Looking for clues about what the hell even happened here … Atomfall. Photograph: Rebellion Developments Even in my short demo, there’s a nice sinister sense of tension in the air. Relying on faulty handguns and explosive devices that you’ve stuck together, Blue Peter-style, with double-sided sticky tape and things you’ve found in an abandoned military checkpoint adds a sense of desperation and disaster. I did find some of the menus and weapon selection tricky, and for a game that relies heavily on stealth, it’s very easy to accidentally mess up because you’ve not loaded your shotgun in advance. But then this is the stuff of the survival game: often it’s better to hang around in the long grass than engage with the enemy (although sometimes it’s not exactly clear where you’re in cover and where you’re not, so I was giving my location away a lot). Atomfall looks like an interesting amalgam of Stalker, , Resistance: Fall of Man and Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture, with some role-playing elements lobbed in. Skill points improve your stealth, health and combat efficiency as you progress, and there are plenty of little notes and clues scattered about the wilderness to find. I think a lot is going to depend on just what the mystery at the heart of the game turns out be. skip past newsletter promotion Sign up to Pushing Buttons Keza MacDonald’s weekly look at the world of gaming Privacy Notice: Newsletters may contain info about charities, online ads, and content funded by outside parties. We’re gonna need more than quaint cottages and enemies with regional accents to capture the horrific majesty of The Triffids, The Daemons or that 70s public information film about playing Frisbee too near an electricity substation. But just the fact that we have a survival adventure with the Lake District as its beautiful, supernaturally charged setting is something to be excited about. 24. Crypto giant Tether CEO on cooperating with Trump administration: ‘We’ve never been shady’ | Cryptocurrencies Crypto giant Tether CEO on cooperating with Trump administration: ‘We’ve never been shady’ | Cryptocurrencies Paolo Ardoino, CEO of the cryptocurrency company Tether, was flying over Switzerland last week as he contemplated the changing regulatory landscape. Tether used to be at war with the establishment. Now it is the establishment. The crypto giant – Tether is the most traded cryptocurrency in the world – has had a strange trip. Four years ago, banks were dropping Tether as a client, and regulators in New York had the company against the wall over questions about commingled client and corporate funds. Treasury officials were complaining that dollar-backed cryptocurrencies enjoyed the international privileges of the dollar without the responsibilities of preventing its misuse. Federal investigators were looking into Tether for possible violations of anti-money-laundering and sanctions rules. The cryptocurrency industry anecdotally – and conspiratorially – describes the Biden administration’s posture toward crypto as a systematic effort to debank crypto in the form of tactics such as “Operation Choke Point 2.0”. Ardoino says Tether’s leadership needed to become globetrotters in search of someone to take their business. When you’re trying to be a disruptor – in a good sense – you are going to always be attacked by the establishment Paolo Ardoino And it’s a lot of business. Tether currently is the 17th largest holder of US government debt, with nearly as much treasury bonds in its digital vaults as Saudi Arabia. Tether’s value remains stable because it is pegged one-to-one to the dollar, meaning the value of each individual Tether coin is $1. The company backs the total value of the cryptocurrency with dollar assets like treasury bonds in an American bank – in this case, $140bn deposited with Cantor Fitzgerald. Tether comes just behind Bitcoin and Ethereum as the most valuable cryptocurrency, and by most measures it is the most widely traded. Investors in countries with unstable currencies, like Turkey or Argentina’s 40%-plus inflation rates, use it to hold onto the value of their savings against the dollar. Crypto traders use Tether to park their digital assets in a safe place. The degree of cooperation between Tether and law enforcement reflects an evolving shift in the government’s posture toward the company, even as federal agencies had been cracking down on cryptocurrency more broadly under Joe Biden. “We’ve never been shady,” Ardoino said. “The company has been great. It has been attacked. Debanked. You know, when you’re trying to be a disruptor – in a good sense – you are going to always be attacked by the establishment.” Previous administrations’ hostility to crypto – and perhaps to Tether in particular – was the product of strategic mistakes the company had made, Ardoino said. “We were very naive. We thought: ‘Oh, we are going to keep our head down.’ We were not communicating. We were not telling what’s going on, and that was used against us,” he said. “And that’s fair, right? So, if someone is not communicating, or you feel is not transparent enough, then that is how people get to fear.” After settling its case with New York regulators in 2021, Tether began to come out of its shell, publishing quarterly statements and expanding its cooperation with the government. Today, things are different for Tether. Its banker – Cantor Fitzgerald CEO Howard Lutnick – has been confirmed as secretary of commerce in the Trump administration. The company says it is proud of its cooperation with US law enforcement. Though Tether’s holding company is headquartered in crypto-friendly El Salvador, the cryptocurrency is expanding in a way that Ardoino says will help the United States secure its position as the world’s reserve currency. “We have 400 million users in emerging markets,” Ardoino said. “We are basically selling the US debt outside the US … We are decentralizing the US debt as well, basically pushing for dollar hegemony. That’s how the US can maintain its dominance when it comes to its currency.” It’s a line Lutnick might have written into his confirmation hearing speech himself. The Senate confirmed Lutnick on a party-line vote 51-45 in February. Ardoino said their relationship is at arms-length now, though. “Cantor [Fitzgerald], they are our custodian. So, we will continue to have this relationship with Cantor,” he said. “They have been a great custodian for us. They are primary dealers, so we can have basically direct access to the Fed[eral Reserve] to purchase [government] debt. With Howard, when he goes into government, we cannot talk to him.” Lutnick has been a vocal backer of cryptocurrency and Tether’s position in the industry in particular. Senators had some sharp questions for him about Tether at his 29 January hearing, with Senator Maria Cantwell pressing him about audited holdings. “Do you think the market needs to comply with audits about whether one-to-one ratios really exist on stablecoins?” Cantwell asked Lutnick. “I believe stablecoins, US dollar stablecoins, should be audited, should be completely backed by US treasuries 100%,” Lutnick replied. skip past newsletter promotion A weekly dive in to how technology is shaping our lives Privacy Notice: Newsletters may contain info about charities, online ads, and content funded by outside parties. We use Google reCaptcha to protect our website and the Google Privacy Policy and Terms of Service apply. after newsletter promotion “How do we prove that?” Cantwell then asked. “An US audit and one-to-one backed by US treasuries,” Lutnick continued. “And lastly, you can’t change the rules; meaning if someone has bought the stablecoin, you can’t change the price. If someone’s made a deposit with you, you can’t say: ‘I’m going to withdraw, you’re going to change the price.’” She also asked about reports that “as much as $19bn of Tether could be illicit activity by the North Koreans, the Russians, the ********. And so, what do we do about that? What is your solution?” “It’s like blaming Apple because criminals use Apple phones,” Lutnick replied. “It’s just a product. We don’t pick on the US treasury because criminals use dollars. So, I think it’s just a product … They are signed up with all US federal law enforcement. They follow all federal law enforcement instantly.” Ardoino rejects the suggestion of Tether’s usefulness to criminals. “There is no financial institution – even the big banks, they don’t have this breadth of collaboration,” he said, citing more than 200 agencies in 50 countries that work with Tether. A Swiss bank might rebuff an American law enforcement agency coming for money in its accounts. Tether, however, touts its ability to return money stolen from others. For example, a notable “pig butchering” scam last year sent Shan Hanes, CEO of Heartland Tri-State Bank in Elkhart, Kansas, to a 293-month federal prison term for embezzling $47.1m and sending it overseas as cryptocurrency. Tether was able to recover $8.3m for the victims. The traditional banking system is more porous than a cryptocurrency wallet right now, Ardoino argued. “When [criminals are] finally trying to use blockchain and move money on the blockchain in USDT [Tether’s trading symbol], we see them and we freeze them,” he said. “And it takes 15 minutes to freeze an address from our stock. We are much more granular and faster than any bank or any other financial institution. So, I’ve been saying very loudly and publicly that any criminal using USDT is a very stupid criminal, because we can see everything and we can catch it.” Arduino does see a threat in an adversarial regulatory relationship toward crypto, both in the United States and Europe. Both Coinbase, the largest cryptocurrency exchange in the US, and EU-based exchanges removed USDT because it does not comply with the EU’s Markets in Crypto-Assets regulation, which went into effect at the end of 2024. Traders can hold Tether in non-custodial wallets but can’t trade it on an exchange that complies with European regulations. “I think that the US understands very well that they should very, very much avoid a DeepSeek moment for finance and crypto,” Ardoino said, suggesting that it is possible that some invention in a stealth-mode lab somewhere beyond the industry’s attention could radically change the competitive environment. Ardoino was referring to Hangzhou-based startup DeepSeek, a large language model AI that emerged seemingly from nowhere in January that could compete with Meta and OpenAI’s offerings at a fraction of the cost. Its emergence is disrupting AI business plans by changing the competitive environment. Ardoino hopes the new administration will have settled on its approach to regulations – likely to be much friendlier than its predecessor’s – by September, he said. “I think that they want to get regulations done by June. June would be very aggressive as a timeline, but September is realistic.” Source link #Crypto #giant #Tether #CEO #cooperating #Trump #administration #Weve #shady #Cryptocurrencies Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content] For verified travel tips and real support, visit: [Hidden Content]
  25. Man believed to be pilot arrested at Logan Airport dies in parking garage at MBTA station Man believed to be pilot arrested at Logan Airport dies in parking garage at MBTA station Man believed to be pilot arrested at Logan Airport dies in parking garage at MBTA station A wanted JetBlue pilot who was arrested last month at Boston’s Logan Airport fatally shot himself in the parking lot of an MBTA station on Friday morning, officials said. The Massachusetts State Police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section found 33-year-old Jeremy Gudorf, of Ohio, in his parked car at the Wonderland station garage in Revere, according to a state police spokesperson. When troopers approached him, state police say Gudorf pulled out a gun and “abruptly shot himself.” Troopers entered Gudorf’s vehicle and rendered aid before he was rushed to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. “Pending official identification by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, state police believe the identity of the individual to be Jeremy Gudorf,” the spokesman added. Gudorf was nabbed at Logan moments before taking off on a flight to Paris on the evening of Feb. 20, authorities said. He was later arraigned in East Boston District Court on a fugitive from justice charge. Suffolk Assistant District Attorney Kyle Neyman said during the arraignment that Gudorf was wanted in Huntersville, North Carolina, on charges related to the ******* exploitation of a minor for service. U.S. Customs and Border Protection learned of the warrant for Gudorf’s arrest while conducting a standard review of the manifest of a Boston-to-Paris flight and requested help from troopers assigned to the airport, state police said. “He is a commercial pilot, the warrant is obviously out of North Carolina and he resides in the state of Ohio. So for those reasons, we ask that he be held without bail and surrender his passport,” Neyman told the court. In a statement provided to Boston 25 News after his arrest, a JetBlue spokesperson said that Gudorf had been placed on “indefinite leave.” “We are aware of and closely reviewing the arrest of one of our pilots upon reporting for work at Boston’s Logan Airport Thursday evening due to an outstanding warrant,” the spokesperson said. “The pilot has been placed on indefinite leave as law enforcement proceeds with the matter.” The Huntersville Police Department said it launched an investigation into Gudorf in October 2024 after receiving a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. During the investigation, the police department said detectives obtained a search warrant for Google, leading to the identification of the source of the reported ******* exploitation images. “At the time the crime was committed, records indicate he resided in Huntersville, NC. However, during the investigation, and before he was identified as a suspect, he relocated out of state,” the police department said in a statement. Gudorf, who was allowed to hide his face in court during his arraignment, was ordered held on $10,000 bail under the condition he immediately report to North Carolina within a week of his court appearance.
