  1. NASA Reschedules SPHEREx and PUNCH Missions, Now Set for March 7 Launch NASA Reschedules SPHEREx and PUNCH Missions, Now Set for March 7 Launch NASA has once again delayed the launch of its SPHEREx and PUNCH missions, now scheduled for March 7. Originally planned for February 27, the launch has faced multiple postponements. The two missions, set to travel aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket, were initially rescheduled for March 4. However, the latest delay has been attributed to the availability of a launch window at Vandenberg Space Force Base in California. Liftoff is now expected at 10:09 p.m. EST from Launch Complex 4E. Reason for Delay and Mission Overview According to NASA, the initial postponements were due to extended checks and processing of the Falcon 9 rocket. The latest delay, as per sources, is due to scheduling constraints on the Western Range. The SPHEREx mission, formally known as the Spectro-Photometer for the History of the Universe, Epoch of Reionissation and Ices Explorer, is an infrared telescope designed to survey the sky and gather data on the early universe. Unlike the James Webb Space Telescope, which focuses on deep-space observations, SPHEREx will provide a broad-field view in infrared wavelengths. As per reports, the PUNCH mission, or the Polarimeter to Unify the Corona and Heliosphere, consists of four small satellites that will study solar activity, including coronal mass ejections (CMEs). These events can cause disruptions on Earth, such as radio blackouts. Scientists aim to improve predictions of space weather through this mission. Launch Coordination and Streaming Details As part of NASA’s Launch Services Program, SPHEREx and PUNCH are sharing a launch to optimise costs and logistics. This approach allows multiple missions to utilise the same rocket, reducing the need for separate launches. The event will be streamed live on NASA+ and the agency’s official YouTube channel. 2. What to watch: The Electric State, Formula 1: Drive To Survive, The Newsreader finale and Dope Thief What to watch: The Electric State, Formula 1: Drive To Survive, The Newsreader finale and Dope Thief The Electric StateFriday, streaming on Netflix It feels weird to see child actor Millie Bobby Brown popping up on red carpets gussied up to the nines and looking far older than she is — surely it was only yesterday she was making her screen debut as an elfin-esque 12-year-old in Stranger Things? No, in fact, almost a decade has passed since then — she’s now 21, though you’d not know it to look at her. And plenty have been — there have been countless articles written about the young star’s older appearance in recent weeks, a fact Brown herself addressed on Tuesday with a blistering take-down posted to her social media. “The fact that adult writers are spending their time dissecting my face, my body, my choices, it’s disturbing,” she said. And fair enough: how she looks in real life should be immaterial to her on-screen roles, and in her two most recent projects, Brown is very much playing her age. She’s popping up one last time as her teen self in the final season of Stranger Things (set to hit screens this year), and she’s also appearing alongside Chris Pratt in this new movie (again playing a teen). The film hails from the Russo brothers (not to be confused with the Duffer brothers, who are behind the creation of The Upside Down). They’re responsible for several big-budget Marvel movies, including Avengers: Endgame, and this is a bells-and-whistles production, too. In it Brown plays Michelle, “an orphaned teenager navigating life in a society where sentient robots resembling cartoons and mascots, who once served peacefully among humans, now live in exile following a failed uprising”. Based on the graphic novel by Simon Stalenhag, it’s getting lots of buzz, and is sure to be a hit with younger audiences who can more easily separate Brown’s on-screen and off-screen personas. Formula 1: Drive To SurviveStreaming now on NetflixCamera IconFormula 1: Drive to Survive returns for another season. Credit: Netflix/ It’s hard to overstate just how massively popular this series is — it’s credited with opening up the sport to a whole new audience, predominantly women, who can’t get enough of this high-octane car fest. Season seven hit screens this week, and once again offers unprecedented access to the teams and drivers, this time as they prepare to take on the 2023 FIA Formula 1 World Championship. It finishes up for good this weekend, and if you’ve been glued to it up to this point (good on you for resisting the urge to binge it all in one go), you won’t want to miss the finale. Real talk: Dale’s not in a good place, and with the Berlin Wall about to fall, cracks are appearing all over the shop. A satisfying conclusion to an excellent series. Five stars. Ten Pound PomsMonday, streaming on StanCamera IconTen Pound Poms returns for season two. Credit: Stan This show is fast cementing a place for itself as one of my favourite locally produced series. It’s got its fans overseas as well — it’s super popular with British audiences. Season two sees Michelle Keegan return as nurse Kate Thorne, as well as Faye Marsay and Warren Brown as Annie and Terry Roberts. They’re all navigating their second year in Aus after a bumpy ride in the first season. Also popping up are Marcus Graham, Perth-raised Clare Hughes, and Tina Bursill. Worth a look. Dope ThiefFriday, streaming on Apple TV PlusCamera IconDope Thief is streaming on Apple TV Plus. 5. 2,400-Year-Old Puppets with Expressive Faces Discovered in El Salvador 2,400-Year-Old Puppets with Expressive Faces Discovered in El Salvador Archaeologists in El Salvador have uncovered a set of 2,400-year-old ceramic puppets on top of a large pyramid, suggesting that the region’s ancient inhabitants participated in elaborate public rituals. The discovery includes five figurines—four female and one male—crafted with movable heads and open mouths, possibly used to depict well-known events. The finding indicates that early societies in what is now El Salvador were more connected to Central American cultural traditions than previously believed. Ancient Ritual Objects Discovered According to a study published in Antiquity, the puppets were found in 2022 at the San Isidro archaeological site. Initially thought to be part of burial offerings, the absence of human remains led researchers to propose that they played a role in public ceremonies instead. As per Live Science, study’s lead author Jan Szymański, an archaeologist at the University of Warsaw, stated that the figurines were designed to shift expressions based on the angle they were viewed from, potentially enhancing their theatrical use in rituals. Three of the figurines measure approximately 30 centimetres, while the other two are 18 and 10 centimetres tall. The larger ones are depicted unclothed without adornments, whereas the smaller ones feature hair locks and earspools. The researchers noted that their construction, particularly the movable heads, resembled modern dolls, suggesting they may have been used in performances reenacting significant myths or historical events. Cultural Links Across Central America Findings from the excavation indicate that similar figurines have only been discovered once before—in 2012 in Guatemala—pointing to shared cultural and ritualistic traditions between ancient communities. Comparisons in style and material suggest a connection between elite groups across the region. Evidence from the site, including ***** pendants resembling those found in Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and Panama, further supports theories of trade and cultural exchange. Szymański said that this discovery challenges previous notions that El Salvador was isolated in ancient times, revealing deeper links between its early civilizations and neighbouring regions. 7. Reform *** refers MP Rupert Lowe to police Reform *** refers MP Rupert Lowe to police Reform *** says it has reported its MP Rupert Lowe to police, alleging he has made “threats of physical violence” against party chairman Zia Yusuf. In a statement with chief whip Lee Anderson, Yusuf also said the party had received allegations of bullying in Lowe’s parliamentary and constituency offices. He added the party had appointed a lawyer to conduct an investigation into allegations of “workplace bullying” made by two female employees. Writing on social media, Lowe said the party’s allegations were “untrue and false” and he was “disappointed, but not surprised” to read them. Lowe said it was “no surprise” that the party’s “vexatious statement” had been released the day after he had criticised party leader Nigel Farage. In an interview with the Daily Mail, Lowe said the party remained a “protest party led by the Messiah” under Farage’s leadership. Lowe also suggested he could leave Reform *** if the party did not change before the next general election. The MP said: “We have to change from being a protest party led by the Messiah into being a properly structured party with a frontbench, which we don’t have. We have to start behaving as if we are leading and not merely protesting.” Farage then hit back in a later interview, saying Lowe was “completely wrong” and Reform *** was “absolutely not a protest party”. 8. AirPods Pro 2 are back on ***** for $170 AirPods Pro 2 are back on ***** for $170 Apple’s AirPods Pro 2 earbuds are on ***** for just $170 via Amazon. This essentially ties a previous record-low price for 2025, which was $169. This purchase comes with the earbuds, four pairs of silicone tips in different sizes, a charging case, a lanyard loop and a USB-C cable. We heaped a fair amount of praise on these earbuds in our official review, calling them “a worthwhile update.” The sound is better-than-ever, thanks to new drivers, amplifiers, transducers and audio algorithms. The transparency mode is absolutely stellar, largely helped by the company’s proprietary H2 chip. Apple The ANC is solid, particularly for earbuds. This is also thanks to that H2 chip, which allows the AirPods Pro to cancel twice as much noise as the first-gen model. These earbuds are made for Apple devices, so there’s seamless switching between, say, iPhones, iPads and Macs. The touch gesture controls are neat, but there’s a learning curve. Give it a few days before throwing in the towel. The battery life is just average, but the charging case helps keep the music going. The primary downside here is age. The AirPods 2 Pro earbuds came out in 2022, so a refresh is likely on the horizon. 9. Athena Lunar Lander Successfully Lands Near Moon’s South Pole on IM-2 Mission Athena Lunar Lander Successfully Lands Near Moon’s South Pole on IM-2 Mission The private lunar lander Athena, developed by Intuitive Machines, has touched down near the Moon’s south pole, though the exact condition of the spacecraft remains unclear. The Houston-based company has confirmed that the lander is on the surface, but mission controllers are working to determine its orientation. The landing, which took place on March 6 at 12:32 p.m. EST, was part of NASA’s Commercial Lunar Payload Services (CLPS) initiative. The mission, known as IM-2, aims to deliver scientific instruments to the lunar surface to investigate resources and conduct technology demonstrations. A post-landing press conference has been scheduled to provide further details on the lander’s status. Mission and Landing Details According to reports, the IM-2 mission was launched on February 26 aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida. Athena entered lunar orbit on March 3, with no additional course corrections required due to the precision of its approach. The descent sequence included multiple automated maneuvers, such as Terrain Relative Navigation and Hazard Detection and Avoidance, to ensure a safe landing at Mons Mouton. The lander’s final descent saw it slow to a rate of 3 feet per second before making contact with the surface. Confirmation signals were expected within 15 seconds of landing. Scientific Goals and Onboard Technology As reported by Space.com, Athena carries NASA’s Polar Resources Ice Mining Experiment-1 (PRIME-1), which consists of a drill known as TRIDENT and a mass spectrometer (MSolo) to search for water ice beneath the lunar surface. A secondary spacecraft, Grace, has also been deployed to explore a permanently shadowed crater. Additionally, the lander features the first-ever 4G/LTE network on the Moon, provided by Nokia Bell Labs, and a Laser Retro-Reflector Array (LRA) for future navigation experiments. Operations are planned to continue for approximately ten days before lunar nightfall. 12. NASA’s Lunar Trailblazer Moon Probe Struggles with Power and Signal Loss NASA’s Lunar Trailblazer Moon Probe Struggles with Power and Signal Loss NASA’s Lunar Trailblazer, a small satellite designed to map water ice on the moon, has been experiencing severe technical difficulties since its launch on February 26. The spacecraft, developed under a NASA and Caltech-led mission, has lost communication with ground control and is reportedly running low on power. Engineering data received before signal loss indicated that the probe is spinning slowly in space, affecting its ability to generate sufficient power from its solar panels. Efforts have been ongoing to restore contact, but no signal has been received in the past week. Mission Status and Recovery Efforts According to NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), data collected via ground-based radar on March 2, suggested that Lunar Trailblazer remains in a low-power state. The Deep Space Network and additional observatories are being used to assess the spacecraft’s position. It has been unable to conduct post-launch trajectory correction manoeuvres, which are critical for adjusting its course towards lunar orbit. Alternative strategies are being explored to salvage the mission, should communication be re-established. Technical Challenges and Mission Risks Lunar Trailblazer was selected as part of NASA’s SIMPLEx (Small Innovative Missions for Planetary Exploration) programme, which accepts a higher level of risk in exchange for lower costs. Built by Lockheed Martin, the 200-kilogram spacecraft was designed to detect water ice through reflected light. Mission operations are being led from Caltech, with Lockheed Martin providing technical support. The spacecraft’s power issues were detected shortly after deployment, with an initial loss of communication occurring on February 27. Although a brief transmission was received later, contact has not been restored since, as per reports. Potential Future Course Recovery options remain uncertain. If power levels increase due to a change in orientation, further attempts to regain control will be made. Meanwhile, NASA and its partners continue monitoring for signals in the hope of executing alternative trajectory adjustments. The total mission budget is estimated at $94.1 million, and the success of the mission now depends on overcoming its current technical setbacks. 13. Jim Cramer Warns – ‘Liberals Aren’t Buying Their Cars!’ Jim Cramer Warns – ‘Liberals Aren’t Buying Their Cars!’ We recently published a list of Jim Cramer Discusses These 13 Stocks & Criticizes Billionaires. In this article, we are going to take a look at where Tesla, Inc. (NASDAQ:TSLA) stands against other stocks that Jim Cramer discusses. In a recent appearance on CNBC’s Squawk on the Street, Jim Cramer continued to warn users to not trust billionaires. His remarks built on an earlier show, where he had shared that “you can’t make money listening to a billionaire because they already have made money.” This time around, Cramer outlined that billionaires often share the sentiment that it’s hard for others to become as rich as they are. “They close the door,” he commented and added: “Well they’re always negative.” Cramer also believes that luck might play a large role in making someone a billionaire. According to him: “We never, we never grade them because if they’re billionaires we think that they have to be genius. We never think about luck. We just think, well they might have had really great trade.” In response, co-host David Faber pointed out that the one key trait that he has observed in most billionaires is their relentless drive. Cramer responded by sharing that billionaires are “tiresome.” He also felt that President Biden’s goodbye speech about oligarchs was “completely ignored.” During the show, Cramer also commented on how using ChatGPT was proving troublesome. He outlined: “I use ChatGPT like, probably maybe fifty times a day. I do it text and I’m continually let down by the lack of rigor of what I get. I mean I’ll say tell me everything I need to know about [a pharma company – BMY]. And it won’t even have the patent cliff. Doesn’t mention the patent. . . I mean it just doesn’t get the story at all.” To make our list of the stocks that Jim Cramer talked about, we listed down all the stocks he mentioned during CNBC’s Squawk on the Street aired on February 26th. For these stocks, we also mentioned the number of hedge fund investors. Why are we interested in the stocks that hedge funds pile into? The reason is simple: our research has shown that we can outperform the market by imitating the top stock picks of the best hedge funds. Our quarterly newsletter’s strategy selects 14 small-cap and large-cap stocks every quarter and has returned 373.4% since May 2014, beating its benchmark by 218 percentage points (see more details here). Story Continues Tesla, Inc. (TSLA): Jim Cramer Warns – ‘Liberals Aren’t Buying Their Cars!’ Number of Hedge Fund Holders In Q4 2024: 126 While most of Cramer’s attention during his morning show is focused on Elon Musk, more recently, he has also started sharing his thoughts about Musk’s car company Tesla, Inc. (NASDAQ:TSLA). The firm has bled nearly all of its gains since President Trump’s November election win as investors become increasingly worried about a global EV sales slowdown due to Musk’s political activities and statements. The CNBC TV show host commented in great detail about the current narrative for Tesla, Inc. (NASDAQ:TSLA): “[On Wells Fargo calling mega cap stock reversal the ‘mocapocalypse’]”I think that’s a great call actually. There’s a terrific piece out, about Tesla. Today, and about, and again, this is about the idea that it’s all peaked. Tesla related, point blank, to, Bitcoin. Was that terrific? And it talks about the OG and stonk.” Overall, TSLA ranks 8th on our list of stocks that Jim Cramer discusses. While we acknowledge the potential of TSLA as an investment, our conviction lies in the belief that some AI stocks hold greater promise for delivering higher returns and doing so within a shorter time frame. If you are looking for an AI stock that is more promising than TSLA but that trades at less than 5 times its earnings, check out our report about the cheapest AI stock. 15. ****** Hole Singularities May Not Exist, Say Scientists ****** Hole Singularities May Not Exist, Say Scientists The existence of singularities at the heart of ****** holes has been challenged by physicists, with new modifications to Einstein’s general relativity equations suggesting that these infinite density points may not be physically real. Singularities, which imply a breakdown of space, time, and matter, create a fundamental issue in physics. If they were to exist, the predictive nature of scientific laws would be compromised. Addressing this, researchers have proposed adjustments to relativity, introducing a new perspective on ****** hole interiors. Refinements to General Relativity Proposed According to the study published in Physics Letters B, the researchers incorporated an approach rooted in quantum gravity to modify general relativity’s core equations. The standard model of general relativity, while successfully explaining ****** holes, neutron stars, and cosmic evolution, encounters issues when applied at extreme conditions. Quantum mechanics, which governs subatomic particles, contradicts the existence of singularities, making their resolution crucial. Speaking to Live Science, Robie Hennigar, a postdoctoral researcher at Durham University, stated that the singularities are regions of the universe where space, time, and matter are crushed and stretched into nonexistence which is a very serious problem. He added that most scientists view singularities as signs that a more complete theory is needed. Mathematical Modifications and Potential Observations As per the research, refining Einstein’s equations with an infinite series of additional terms eliminates singularities, replacing them with highly curved but finite regions of space-time. While this revision resolves the issue theoretically, observational verification remains a challenge. In an email to Live Science, Pablo Cano, a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Barcelona, noted that direct testing would be difficult, as these changes occur within ****** holes. However, gravitational waves from ****** hole collisions could provide indirect evidence. Observations of the early universe may also offer insights, as traces of modified gravity might be detected in primordial gravitational waves. Next Steps in Research Further work is required to determine whether these singularity-free ****** holes can naturally form during gravitational collapse. Pablo Bueno, a research fellow at the University of Barcelona, mentioned that ongoing studies are exploring whether these models can also explain the origins of the universe without invoking singularities. Future findings could reshape the understanding of ****** holes and the fundamental laws governing space-time. 16. Powell says Fed is awaiting ‘greater clarity’ on Trump policies before making next move on rates Powell says Fed is awaiting ‘greater clarity’ on Trump policies before making next move on rates U.S. Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell testifies before a Senate Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee hearing on “The Semiannual Monetary Policy Report to the Congress,” at Capitol Hill in Washington, U.S., Feb. 11, 2025. Craig Hudson | Reuters NEW YORK — Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell said Friday that the central bank can wait to see how President Donald Trump’s aggressive policy actions play out before it moves again on interest rates. With markets nervous over Trump’s proposals for tariffs and other issues, Powell reiterated statements he and his colleagues have made recently counseling patience on monetary policy amid the high level of uncertainty. The White House “is in the process of implementing significant policy changes in four distinct areas: trade, immigration, fiscal policy, and regulation,” he said in a speech for the U.S. Monetary Policy Forum. “It is the net effect of these policy changes that will matter for the economy and for the path of monetary policy.” Noting that “uncertainty around the changes and their likely effects remains high” Powell said the Fed is “focused on separating the signal from the noise as the outlook evolves. We do not need to be in a hurry, and are well positioned to wait for greater clarity.” The comments seem at least somewhat at odds with growing market expectations for interest rate cuts this year. As markets have been roiled by Trump’s shifting positions on his agenda — specifically his tariff plans — traders have priced in the equivalent of three quarter percentage point reductions by the end of the year, starting in June, according to the CME Group’s FedWatch gauge. However, Powell’s comments indicate that the Fed will be in a wait-and-see mode before mapping out further policy easing. “Policy is not on a preset course,” he said. “Our current policy stance is well positioned to deal with the risks and uncertainties that we face in pursuing both sides of our dual mandate.” The policy forum is sponsored by the University of Chicago’s Booth School’s Clark Center for Global Markets and included multiple Fed officials in the audience. Most central bank policymakers lately have said they expect the economy to hold up and inflation to fall back to the Fed’s 2% goal, with the rate climate still unclear as Trump’s policy comes more clearly into view. In his assessment, Powell also spoke in mostly positive terms about the macro environment, saying the U.S. is in “a good place” with a “solid labor market” and inflation moving back to target. However, he did note that recent sentiment surveys showed misgivings about the path of inflation, largely a product of the Trump tariff talk. The Fed’s preferred gauge showed 12-month inflation running at a 2.5% rate, or 2.6% when excluding food and energy. “The path to sustainably returning inflation to our target has been bumpy, and we expect that to continue,” Powell said. The remarks also came the same day that the Labor Department reported a gain of 151,000 in nonfarm payrolls for February. Though the total was slightly below market expectations, Powell said the report is more evidence that “the labor market is solid and broadly in balance.” “Wages are growing faster than inflation, and at a more sustainable pace than earlier in the pandemic recovery,” he said. Average hourly earnings rose 0.3% in February and were up 4% on an annual basis. The jobs report also indicated that the unemployment rate edged higher to 4.1% as household employment dipped. 17. Life-sized motorbike based on Koraidon produced Life-sized motorbike based on Koraidon produced The Pokemon Company has produced life-sized Koraidon motorbike in collaboration with Honda. Starting today at the Honda Welcome Plaza Aoyama in Tokyo, fans can see a look at the concept until March 9. Reported by VGC, the bike is the second time Pokemon has joined forces with a car maker to make a bike based on a Pokemon. Just last year, Toyota produced a bike based off of Violet’s cover star, Miraidon. Now, similarly to last year, this bike is not functional, but rather serves to emulate the “size and weight” of ridable Pokemon. At this point, it’s not clear what will happen after the display ends, but odds are it will just be shipped off to one of the Pokemon Center stores, which often include large statues. Regardless of practicality, it’s kind of cool to see, especially if you’re a Pokemon fan. 18. Aditya-L1’s SUIT Telescope Captures First-Ever Solar Flare Kernel, Revealing Unseen Solar Activity Aditya-L1’s SUIT Telescope Captures First-Ever Solar Flare Kernel, Revealing Unseen Solar Activity India’s space-based solar observatory, Aditya-L1, has recorded a never-before-seen solar flare phenomenon, marking a major step in solar research. The Solar Ultra-violet Imaging Telescope (SUIT) onboard the spacecraft captured an image of a solar flare ‘kernel’ in the lower solar atmosphere. The observation was made in the Near Ultra-violet (NUV) spectrum, revealing crucial insights into solar activity and its potential effects on Earth. The mission, launched by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) on September 2, 2023, continues to provide significant scientific data. Findings from the Study According to research published in The Astrophysical Journal Letters, the SUIT instrument observed an X6.3-class solar flare on February 22, 2024. The flare’s intensity, classified among the most powerful solar eruptions, was studied in the NUV wavelength range (200-400 nm) for the first time in such detail. The recorded data suggests that energy from the flare spreads through different atmospheric layers, reinforcing theories about solar dynamics while offering new insights into plasma behaviour. How Aditya-L1 Observes Solar Flares Aditya-L1’s position at the first Earth-Sun Lagrange Point (L1), located 1.5 million kilometres from Earth, allows uninterrupted solar observation. The SUIT payload, developed by the Inter-University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics (IUCAA) in collaboration with ISRO, can capture high-resolution images in 11 different NUV bands. Other onboard instruments, including the Solar Low Energy X-ray Spectrometer (SoLEXS) and High Energy L1 Orbiting X-ray Spectrometer (HEL1OS), monitor solar X-ray emissions, enabling comprehensive analysis of flare activity. Key Scientific Implications The observations confirmed that brightening detected in the lower solar atmosphere during the flare correlated with increased plasma temperature in the solar corona. The findings validate existing solar flare theories while presenting new data that could refine the understanding of solar physics. Scientists believe this could enhance predictions of space weather, which affects satellite communications and Earth’s magnetic field. Future Prospects of Aditya-L1 With its advanced instrumentation fully operational, Aditya-L1 is expected to reshape solar physics research. The data from the mission is anticipated to contribute significantly to global studies on solar behaviour, aiding in a deeper understanding of the Sun’s impact on space and Earth’s environment. 20. Assassin’s Creed Shadows Official Specs Released by Ubisoft Confirm the Real Loser is Xbox Series S Assassin’s Creed Shadows Official Specs Released by Ubisoft Confirm the Real Loser is Xbox Series S Believe it or not, the hype for Assassin’s Creed Shadows is real. Despite initial skepticism about the gameplay and characters, many players are eager to try out Ubisoft’s latest entry in the beloved franchise. Fans want to see the return of stealth-focused mechanics and an open-world feudal Japan setting. Players are highly anticipating the release on March 20th. | Image Credit: Ubisoft Recently, Ubisoft released its specs for the various consoles, leaving fans excited. However, while anticipation is high, one section of console gamers is once again getting the short end of the stick: Xbox Series S players. While it’s great that it is releasing on the budget-friendly console (day 1), the official specs reveal some serious compromises. Assassin’s Creed Shadows proves that Series S still gets the worst deal The specs are looking bad for Series S players. | Image Credit: Ubisoft The Xbox Series S is the most affordable console of the current generation, offering a low-cost entry into next-gen console gaming. While it isn’t as popular or powerful as the Series X or PS5, it remains a viable option for those who want to experience modern games without breaking the bank. The problem? Many AAA developers either ignore it entirely or provide heavily downgraded versions of their games. To Ubisoft’s credit, they are releasing Shadows on Series S on day one, which is more than some studios are willing to do or try. However, after seeing the official specs, it’s clear that this version of the game is far from ideal. Unlike the Xbox Series X and PS5, which get multiple modes, including 60FPS and 4K options. The Series S is stuck with a single 30FPS Fidelity mode, which is upscaled to 1620p only. For a next-gen console in 2025, this is simply unacceptable. Even though Microsoft encourages developers to optimize for the Series S, it seems that the console is constantly getting the worst version of games. The obsession with High Fidelity is ruining performance Developers need to focus on optimization more. | Image Credit: Ubisoft There’s no denying that high-fidelity graphics are great, who wouldn’t want their games to look as realistic as possible? However, achieving such high levels of detail requires powerful hardware, something that not every player has. While developers constantly push for more detailed worlds, better lighting, and advanced effects to showcase their prowess, they most often forget that the majority of players aren’t running high-end gaming PCs or top-tier consoles to actually see that. Instead of focusing on optimization, many developers choose to push the graphical limits. This issue becomes apparent when games are (forced by Microsoft) released on the Xbox Series S. Rather than working on optimizing the game to make it run smoothly, developers either skip the console altogether or release inferior versions with disappointing specs, just like what’s happening with AC Shadows. A 1620p resolution at 30FPS in 2025 as the only option is sad, at best. In the end, if developers want their games to reach as many players as possible, they must focus on optimization, not just visual spectacle. Because at the end of the day, a beautiful game that runs poorly is a game that players won’t enjoy. 21. Granny gets X-rated message after Apple AI fail Granny gets X-rated message after Apple AI fail Graham Fraser Technology Reporter Supplied Louise Littlejohn saw the funny side after realising the technology had got it wrong A woman from Dunfermline has spoken of her shock after an Apple voice-to-text service mistakenly inserted a reference to sex – and an apparent insult – into a message left by a garage. Louise Littlejohn, 66, received a voicemail message on Wednesday from a Lookers Land Rover garage in Motherwell inviting her to an event. An artificial intelligence (AI) powered service offered by Apple turned it into a text message which – to her surprise – asked if she been “able to have sex” before calling her a “piece of ****”. Mrs Littlejohn told BBC News: “Initially I was shocked – astonished – but then I thought that is so funny. The text was obviously quite inappropriate. “The garage is trying to sell cars, and instead of that they are leaving insulting messages without even being aware of it. It is not their fault at all.” Apple and the garage both declined to comment. An expert has told the BBC the AI system may have struggled in part because of the caller’s Scottish accent, but far more likely factors were the background noise at the garage and the fact he was reading off a script. Supplied The is what Mrs Littlejohn saw on the voicemail screen in the Phone app on her iPhone after receiving a voicemail from the garage. Mrs Littlejohn said she initially thought the call was a scam, but then recognised that the associated number was from the Motherwell area. She had bought a car from the same garage a few years ago. The BBC has listened to the audio left by the garage worker and confirmed it was a conventional business call. The transcription is so jumbled it’s hard to decipher where it went wrong, but the reference to “sex” may have in fact been when the caller mentioned the “sixth” of March. The BBC has removed the name of the garage employee: “Hi Mrs Littlejohn, it is ____ here from Lookers Land Rover in Lanarkshire. I hope you are well. Just a wee call to see if you have received your invite to our new car INAUDIBLE event that we do have on between the sixth and tenth of March. “Just a wee call to see if it is something you were looking to come along to, and to see if we can confirm an appointment slot that would be suitable for yourself. If it is something you would be interested in, feel free to give me a call on ____, ask for myself ____ INAUDIBLE. Thank you.” What went wrong? On Apple’s website, it details how their voicemail transcription is limited to voicemails in English received on an iPhone with iOS 10 operating system or later, and the transcription “depends on the quality of the recording”. Peter Bell, a professor of speech technology at the University of Edinburgh, listened to the message left for Mrs Littlejohn. He suggested it was at the “challenging end for speech-to-text engines to deal with”. He believes there are a number of factors which could have resulted in rogue transcription: The fact it is over the telephone and, therefore, harder to hearThere is some background noise in the callThe way the garage worker speaks is like he is reading a prepared script rather than speaking in a natural way “All of those factors contribute to the system doing badly, ” he added. “The ******* question is why it outputs that kind of content. “If you are producing a speech-to-text system that is being used by the public, you would think you would have safeguards for that kind of thing.” Did a Scottish accent make a difference?Burnistoun/BBC Could the Scottish accent have played a part in Apple’s transcription troubles? This duo from Burnistoun certainly struggled with the voice-activated lift. Many people in Scotland will remember a sketch from the BBC comedy show Burnistoun, when two Scottish men get trapped after the voice-activated lift can’t understand their accents. It has hundreds of millions of views online, and tapped into a feeling some Scots have about voice technology. In 2016, Scots were asked to work with voice recognition technology in a bid to help mobile phones decipher the accent better. For Prof Bell, the Scottish accent may have had an impact here along with all other factors, but – with ideal audio conditions – problems that technology will have with the Scottish accent are “a thing of the past”. However, this not the first time that Apple’s speech tools have recently hit the headlines for the wrong reasons. A few weeks ago, the tech giant said it was working to fix its speech-to-text tool after some social media users found that when they spoke the word “racist” into their iPhones it typed it out as “Trump”. Apple also suspended its AI summaries of news headlines after it displayed false notifications on stories. 23. Maro Itoje: England captain rejects Will Carling’s criticism of coaching set-up Maro Itoje: England captain rejects Will Carling’s criticism of coaching set-up England captain Maro Itoje has rejected Will Carling’s suggestion that Steve Borthwick’s inexperienced coaching set-up is preventing the side from reaching its potential. Speaking to BBC Radio 4 on Tuesday, former skipper Carling questioned the “calibre” of the coaching team and whether it was the “best we can put out there”. England have been criticised for their style of play during the Six Nations despite recovering from an opening round defeat by Ireland with consecutive one-point victories over France and Scotland at home. Lock Itoje, who was appointed captain by head coach Borthwick before this year’s tournament, said he disagreed with Carling’s sentiment. “With all due respect to Will, I don’t necessarily agree or accept that characterisation of our coaching staff,” the 30-year-old told BBC Sport. “I have been unbelievably impressed with how they have gone about their business and coached us. “The players work really hard but the coaches, trust me, they work extremely hard. “My experience of them has been nothing but positive. I think most people can see an improvement in the team and a large part of that is down to the work the coaches have done and the positions they are putting us in. I think we are tracking in the right direction.” Borthwick is leading an international team for the first time, having previously held coaching roles with England and Japan before guiding Leicester Tigers to the Premiership title in 2022. Attack coach Richard Wigglesworth and Kevin Sinfield, who began as defensive lead before moving into a skills role, joined Borthwick from the Tigers backroom. Defence coach Joe El-Abd is also working in his first international job, combining the role alongside his responsibilities with second-tier French side Oyonnax until the end of the season, while 33-year-old scrum coach Tom Harrison is younger than hooker Jamie George, who will win his 100th cap against Italy on Sunday. Asked whether it was easy to ignore noise from outside England’s camp, Itoje said: “It’s a requirement. “We play a public sport, in front of 80,000 at Allianz Stadium and millions at home every time we pull on an England jersey. “We want people to be engaged with rugby and have an opinion because if they don’t, it probably means they don’t care but as players, what we need to do is focus on what we deem important. That is the skill of anybody who lives a relatively public life. “People will have an opinion on what you do but what really matters is the opinion you have and the opinion of those in your circles.” Itoje’s backing of the coaching staff was echoed by utility back Elliot Daly, who has been rewarded for his impressive form off the bench with a starting berth at full-back against the Azzurri. Responding to Carling’s comments, Daly told BBC Sport: “I don’t think that is true. “The coaches have been around this environment for a while, especially Wiggy, Steve and Kev. As a group, they work really well together. “The relationship the players have with the coaching staff is a really good one.” Source link #Maro #Itoje #England #captain #rejects #Carlings #criticism #coaching #setup Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content]
  24. Trump Asked For Cherished Piece Of History To Be Moved To Oval Office: Report Trump Asked For Cherished Piece Of History To Be Moved To Oval Office: Report President Donald Trump, who was accused of hoarding classified documents after his first term, has apparently moved on to coveting perhaps America’s most historic document in his second. Trump asked his team recently about moving the Declaration of Independence into the Oval Office, The Atlantic reported Thursday, citing “people familiar with the conversation.” His aides responded with “alarm,” the magazine wrote, because of the cost and logistics that would be involved. The delicate animal-parchment artifact, adopted on July 4, 1776, to announce the original colonies’ separation from Great Britain, is exhibited in the National Archives Building behind sealed, heavy glass in casing that can retract into the wall for safekeeping, The Atlantic noted. Common sense prevailed to the “relief” of advisers and Trump eventually backed down, still leaving open the possibility that a valuable copy could be relocated to the White House, according to the report. “President Trump strongly believes that significant and historic documents that celebrate American history should be shared and put on display,” White House spokesperson Steven Cheung wrote in an email to The Atlantic. Many observers can perhaps hold theses truths to be self-evident that Trump has an inflated sense of historical worth. He has oftencomparedhimself to Abraham Lincoln, but lately says he’s kidding.
