Engineers build 30-feet-long all-glass bridge using 6,000-year-old technique
Engineers build 30-feet-long all-glass bridge using 6,000-year-old technique
Architect and structural engineer Masoud Akbarzadeh has challenged conventional wisdom by constructing a bridge from a material deemed unsuitable: glass.
The architect has created a 30-foot-long bridge built entirely of interlocking 16-millimeter (0.63 inches) hollow glass pieces. It looks incredibly fragile and beautiful, like a shimmering, light-filled, translucent structure.
“All these pieces alone, hollow glass units, might seem quite brittle—and they are, but depending on how you design to put these glass units together, they start relying on each other, and the units’ assembly establishes a path for the load to be transferred efficiently. Thus, the bridge gains strength as a whole,” said Akbarzadeh, an associate professor of architecture at the Weitzman School of Design.
Inspired by Mesopotamians principle
Over three weeks in 2024, the team constructed this final structure, dubbed “Glass Bridge: The Penn Monument for Hope.”
The journey to create this masterpiece was anything but simple. It took six years of planning, drafting, and revising.
The bridge draws on millennia-old engineering and architectural principles, particularly those associated with funicular design. This means the bridge is built to naturally handle forces, primarily using compression (pushing forces) to stay strong and stable.
This concept, focused on balancing forces through arches and vaults, was employed as far back as 4000 BCE by the Mesopotamians and later by the Romans in their iconic structures.
The first step was a modest but crucial 10-foot prototype, a proving ground for their digital machinations. The bridge prototype used hollow glass units, which interlocked to form the bridge’s arch. A major challenge was finding a way to connect the glass pieces without causing them to crack.
Eventually, structural double-sided VHB tape and precision-cut acrylic connectors were used. Acrylic connectors joined the glass units, ensuring accurate alignment and load transfer.
In stress testing, this prototype glass unit successfully withstood a significant amount of compressive force (41.6 kilopounds).
“This approach permitted the necessary tolerance and ease of assembly without compromising the integrity of the glass,” said Yao Lu, a core member of the design team.
A wooden support was designed by research assistant Boyu Xiao to hold the hollow glass units in place during assembly. Polyhedral Structures Laboratory
Extreme precision required
Villanova University helped the team find a material to prevent glass pieces from cracking when they are touched. They discovered that polyvinyl butyral (PVB), commonly used in safety glass, worked perfectly as an interface material.
This laminate material acted as a buffer between glass modules, preventing direct contact and stress concentrations.
Building the glass bridge required far greater precision than a standard bridge.
The steel or concrete may allow for slight imperfections, but the glass units had to fit together with near-perfect accuracy — with a tolerance of only 0.1 millimeters. This incredibly tight margin of error made the construction extremely challenging.
“But with these connectors, every cut, every angle, every dimension had to be accurate within 0.1 millimeters,” Akbarzadeh said.
“When you’re dealing with 124 separate glass units, even the tiniest misalignment can multiply across the entire span. If we didn’t maintain that level of precision, the whole structure could have collapsed under its own weight,” he added in the press release.
To reach the required precision, the team partnered with firms located in Germany and China.
On November 30th, after a week of long days and late nights, the bridge stood tall.
The Glass Bridge is currently on exhibit at the Corning Museum of Glass until September 1st. Before the exhibit opened, Greenhouse Media filmed the bridge’s construction and interviewed the team, creating a documentary about the project.
The bridge construction has been reported in the journal Engineering Structures.

Captain America halts Milan slide, Inter power on
Captain America halts Milan slide, Inter power on
Christian Pulisic has proved the hero for AC Milan with his two goals helping the Rossoneri end a three-match losing streak in Serie A.
Pulisic first earned and converted a penalty to level the score at 2-2 after hosts Lecce had been leading 2-0. The United States international — who is nicknamed “Captain America” — then scored the late winner in a 3-2 victory.
The result saw Milan inch up to eighth in the Italian league, while Lecce remained 16th and three points above the relegation zone.
City rivals Inter defeated bottom club Monza later on Saturday, but did it the hard way to move four points clear of Napoli, who face Fiorentina on Sunday, at the top of the table.
The Nerazzurri had to also fight back from two goals down to win 3-2, in Milan.
Samuele Birindelli fired Monza in front on 32 minutes and the San Siro was further stunned when Keita Balde Diao doubled the visitors’ lead on the stroke of halftime – and on his 30th birthday.
However, Marko Arnautovic reduced the deficit in first-half added time and Hakan Calhanoglu equalised in the 64th.
Monza, who remain 10 points from safety, thought Stefano Turati had made a fantastic save to keep out Lautaro Martinez’s diving header and the goalkeeper was being congratulated by his teammates when goalline technology proved the ball had gone over. It went down as a Giorgos Kyriakopoulos own-goal.
Milan were behind within seven minutes thanks to a stunning Nikola Krstovic curler from 20 yards.
It was Lecce’s first goal in 367 minutes, having failed to find the back of the net in their previous four matches.
Both teams hit the woodwork before Krstovic doubled his and Lecce’s tally in the 59th.
However, Milan turned things round in the space of five minutes.
Joao Felix’s effort was probably going wide but went in off Lecce defender Antonino Gallo for an own-goal and then Pulisic levelled in the 73rd with a powerful spot kick down the middle after being tripped by Federico Baschirotto.
The turn-around was complete nine minutes from time. Rafael Leao floated in a free kick from the left for Pulisic to volley in at the back post.
Elsewhere, a last-gasp penalty saw Venezia hold Como 1-1 and Parma drew 2-2 against Torino.

Pastor conned longtime friends, nonprofit out of more than $230,000, authorities allege
Pastor conned longtime friends, nonprofit out of more than $230,000, authorities allege
A San Bernardino pastor and onetime city council candidate was arrested this week on suspicion that he swindled longtime friends and a nonprofit corporation tied to another church out of more than $230,000, according to federal authorities.
Terrance Owens Elliott, who was arrested Thursday, has been charged with 11 counts of wire fraud, according to the U.S. attorney’s office in Los Angeles. The 60-year-old Crestline resident has pleaded not guilty and is free on a $9,000 bond.
Elliott’s federal public defender did not immediately respond to a request for comment Saturday.
According to the indictment, from October 2019 to February 2023, Elliott — representing himself as working in the San Bernardino city government and being involved with the police department — defrauded several longtime friends.
Read more: San Bernardino County duo accused of stealing $2.1 million in pandemic-era unemployment benefits
Elliott allegedly convinced one friend, identified only by her initials, M.C., to place inheritance money into a trust that he would establish and administer. He claimed that she would lose her Medicare and Social Security benefits if she received the inheritance directly, according to the indictment.
The trust, for which Elliott was co-trustee, provided that the money would be used for M.C.’s financial needs during her lifetime and for her ******** expenses, according to the indictment. Any remaining property would pass to M.C.’s three children upon her death.
When Elliott opened a bank account in the trust’s name, he allegedly listed only himself as a trustee and gave the bank a fraudulently modified copy of the trust agreement that listed him as having sole power to make payments from the account, according to the indictment.
Elliott allegedly wrote checks and made online transfers to a church — identified only as “Church A” — that weren’t permitted under the trust agreement. According to the indictment, he also used trust money to purchase postal money orders to pay the church’s rent.
Some of the money also allegedly went toward Elliott’s personal expenses, including repair of a Chevrolet truck, Nike sneakers, a piano, clothing and an extended warranty for a motorcycle.

Elliott also allegedly gained access to M.C.’s account at a different bank and transferred around $27,164 worth of some of her monthly Social Security payments to the church, according to federal authorities.
When M.C.’s family asked Elliott about the trust account or for bank statements, he “lulled them into compliance by getting upset and telling them that everything was under control,” according to the indictment.
After M.C. died, Elliott allegedly tricked another individual — identified as W.H. — into paying a little more than $8,600 for ******** expenses, falsely claiming that he needed a judge’s authorization before money in the trust account could be released.
Elliott allegedly defrauded four victims, including M.C. and W.H., out of a little more than $150,200, according to the U.S. attorney’s office.
Read more: Inland Empire trio plead guilty in $1.2-million COVID-19 unemployment fraud
Another alleged scheme began in June 2021, after authorities say Elliott advised W.H. on selling a house. After the home was sold, Elliott suggested that W.H.’s corporation lend M.C.’s trust $65,000, falsely claiming this would avoid capital gains tax from the *****, according to the indictment.
The indictment alleges Elliott prepared a loan contract between the corporation and the trust and told W.H. that he would transfer $65,000 from the corporation to the trust account and that the trust would repay it with 10% annual interest. He also allegedly convinced W.H. to give him several signed blank checks from the corporation’s bank account.
Elliott allegedly used one of the blank checks to make an unauthorized transfer of $16,000 to Church A, according to the indictment. Elliott allegedly transferred $49,000 to the trust, but never repaid any part of the $65,000 loan.
In another alleged scheme, which authorities say ran from September 2018 to June 2021, Elliott used his relationships with a church, identified only as Church B, and its board of directors to help manage litigation expenses and other costs involving them and an entity identified only as Nonprofit Corporation A.
According to the indictment, Elliott allegedly lied to the nonprofit and Church B’s board of directors that the nonprofit owed money to W.H.’s corporation for services related to a lawsuit against them. As a result, the nonprofit issued approximately 32 checks to the corporation, which Elliott allegedly later deposited in a bank account that he controlled.

Elliott allegedly defrauded the nonprofit out of around $23,300.
In total, authorities say Elliott’s schemes cost victims approximately $238,563.
The San Bernardino Sun reported that Elliott ran for a city council seat in 2022 — a bid that was not only unsuccessful, but brought to light criminal convictions and civil lawsuits against him.
If convicted, Elliott could face up to 20 years in federal prison for each count.

Iran won’t negotiate under US ‘bullying’, leader says
Iran won’t negotiate under US ‘bullying’, leader says
Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei says Iran won’t be bullied into negotiations, a day after US President Donald Trump said he had sent a letter to the country’s top authority urging Tehran to negotiate a nuclear deal.
In an interview with Fox Business on Saturday, Trump spoke about the correspondence.
“There are two ways Iran can be handled: militarily, or you make a deal”, to prevent Tehran from acquiring nuclear weapons.
At a meeting with senior Iranian officials, Khamenei said Washington’s aim was to “impose their own expectations”, Iranian state media IRNA reported.
“The insistence of some bullying governments on negotiations is not to resolve issues,” he said.
“Talks for them is a pathway to have new demands, it is not only about Iran’s nuclear issue. Iran will definitely not accept their expectations,” Khamenei was quoted as saying, without directly mentioning Trump.
“Some foreign governments and boorish personalities are pushing for negotiations, but their goal is not to solve problems. Rather, they seek to use negotiations to get their own way and impose their demands,” the 85-year-old said, according to IRNA.
In response to Khamenei’s comments, White House National Security Council spokesman Brian Hughes reiterated almost word for word the choice of negotiations or military action that Trump said he had presented to Iran.
“We hope the Iran regime puts its people and best interests ahead of terror,” Hughes said in a statement.
While expressing openness to a deal with Tehran, Trump has reinstated a “maximum pressure” campaign that was applied during his first term as president to isolate Iran from the global economy and drive its oil exports to zero.
During his 2017-2021 term, Trump withdrew the United States from a landmark deal between Iran and major powers that had placed strict limits on Tehran’s nuclear activities in exchange for sanctions relief.
After Trump pulled out in 2018 and re-imposed sanctions, Iran breached and far surpassed those limits.
UN nuclear watchdog chief Rafael Grossi has said that time is running out for diplomacy to impose new restrictions on Iran’s activities, as Tehran continues to accelerate its enrichment of uranium to near weapons-grade.
The 2015 nuclear deal formally expires in October.
Tehran says its nuclear work is solely for peaceful purposes.
Khamenei, who has the last say on Iran’s key policies, said there was “no other way to stand against coercion and bullying”.
“They are bringing up new demands that certainly will not be accepted by Iran, like our defence capabilities, missile range and international influence,” he was quoted as saying.
Although Tehran says its ballistic missile program is purely defensive, it is seen in the West as a destabilising factor in a volatile, conflict-ridden Middle East.
Tehran has in recent months announced new additions to its conventional weaponry, such as its first drone carrier and an underground naval base amid rising tensions with the US and Israel.

Poor performing civil servants to be incentivised to leave jobs in new plans
Poor performing civil servants to be incentivised to leave jobs in new plans
Under-performing civil servants could be incentivised to leave their jobs under new government plans, while top staff will have their pay linked to their performance.
Cabinet Office minister Pat McFadden said they will “fundamentally reshape” the service as its state is currently not “match-fit” for what the country needs.
The plans are part of wider reforms expected to be set out next week and will go alongside what officials call the prime minister’s “intervention” on Thursday.
A union has accused the government of delivering a “soundbite, not a credible plan for change”, describing the plans as “retreading of failed narratives”.
In a system designed to give employers the tools to deal with bad performance, McFadden, who will appear on Laura Kuenssberg’s Sunday show, is expected to promise a new “mutually agreed exits” process, that will see civil servants performing below their requirements, incentivised to leave their jobs.
Meanwhile, under-performing senior civil servants will be put on development plans, with the possibility of being sacked if there is no improvement within six months.
The Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster is also expected to say that the most senior officials will have their pay linked to performance outcomes.
“The state is not match-fit to rise to the moment our country faces,” McFadden explained, adding that the government’s “plan for the civil service is one where every official is high performing and focused on delivery”.
“To do this we must ensure that we go further to ensure those brilliant people who can deliver are incentivised and rewarded, and those who can’t are able to move on.
“The changes announced today will result in a more focused and productive civil service and more efficient delivery of the change working people need.”
McFadden is also expected to pledge to make more public services digitised and employ more staff in relevant roles.
But Dave Penman, general secretary of the civil servants union FDA, said: “If the government is serious about transforming public services they must set out what the substance of reform looks like, not just the retreading of failed ideas and narratives.”
He added that meaningful reform “must put substance before headlines”, and that if McFadden wanted civil servants to focus on delivery – while government departments simultaneously cut resources – “ministers need to set realistic priorities”.
“[The] government should get on with the difficult job of setting those priorities rather than announcing a new performance management process for civil servants every other month,” Mr Penman explained.

……… I haven’t heard anything about feminism in regards to this game. People have to stop taking a few social media posts serious. Make a good game, no matter who the protaganist(s) is, and people will play. Looks like a good game, that just happens to have female leads IMHO. Nothing seems forced.
Have I gone through the story to make this assumption? NO. But I have seen games that obviously forced agendas and this does not seem like one of them.

Ireland 27-42 France: Simon Easterby questions second French try in Six Nations loss
With a mix of power and counter-attacking speed, France blew Ireland away in the second half, scoring 34 unanswered points to avenge last year’s 38-17 loss in Marseille.
And while Easterby conceded the French are a “hard team to stop when they have momentum”, he bemoaned Ireland’s inability to turn pressure into points when they had possession inside France’s 22.
“We certainly felt we didn’t take our opportunities or put them under enough pressure,” said Easterby.
“When we did it wasn’t until the last 10 minutes of the game when we could score a decent number of points. But the game was gone.”
Easterby, who suffered the first defeat of his interim spell, added: “We felt that going in at 8-6 down at half-time we were still well in the game.
“We were confident if we started well, which we did, that we could kick on and make them pay in terms of our fitness and our ability to go well in second halves, which we have done in previous games in the tournament.
“Unfortunately, we didn’t take enough of opportunities in the game in their 22 and we also conceded too easily.”

Team doctor death forces Barcelona-Osasuna postponement
Team doctor death forces Barcelona-Osasuna postponement
Barcelona’s home game against Osasuna in the Spanish league has been postponed after the death of a first-team doctor.
Fans were informed of the decision around 15 minutes before the game was scheduled to kick off at 9pm local time on Saturday in Barcelona at Lluis Companys Olympic Stadium.
Barcelona said in a statement that they were “deeply saddened to announce the passing of first-team doctor Carles Minarro Garcia this evening.”
The club said they extended their “heartfelt condolences to his family and friends during this difficult time.”
Barcelona did not immediately provide any details on the cause of death, which local media reports said was due to medical reasons.
“I can’t believe it,” Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo wrote on X.
“Rest in peace, Doc.”
The 50-year-old Minarro Garcia joined the medical staff of Barcelona’s first team last season after having previously worked with its futsal team.
Mid-table Osasuna said they agreed to the request by Barcelona to postpone the match. The Spanish soccer federation confirmed that the decision was official.
Barcelona (57) lead La Liga by one point over Atletico Madrid, with Real Madrid a further two behind.
Elsewhere, Alaves held on to upset fifth-placed Villarreal 1-0 despite having two players sent off and an injury scare to goalkeeper Antonio Sivera.
Sivera was one of the Alaves players sent off — in the 58th minute — when he fouled Ayoze Perez during a one-on-one situation that ended in a frightening collision. Sivera seemed to lose consciousness momentarily when his body went limp on the turf before he recovered and was able to walk off the field.
Alaves also lost Antonio Blanco after a second yellow card during 15 minutes of second-half added time.
Manu Sanchez scored the game’s only goal in the 11th minute for Alaves’ first home win since November 1.
Celta Vigo fought back for a 2-1 victory over Leganes to move into eighth place, while Valencia exited the relegation zone after handing last-placed Valladolid a 2-1 defeat.

Why the tech sell-off is a ‘buying opportunity’ for new investors
Why the tech sell-off is a ‘buying opportunity’ for new investors
Despite a recent tech sell-off, Broadcom’s (AVGO) strong earnings results offer a potentially upbeat forecast for the tech sector, driven by demand for artificial intelligence (AI). Wealth Enhancement Group portfolio consulting director Ayako Yoshioka joins Seana Smith and Madison Mills on Morning Brief to discuss buying into the tech sector in 2025 and why she is “absolutely” bullish on the sector.
“When you look at the long term, I think the AI spending is clearly going to continue,” Yoshioka says. “The hyperscalers aren’t going to pull back on the budgeted CapEx that they’ve already announced.”
Although current market volatility could be a “buying opportunity for those who may not have been exposed” to the tech sector, Yoshioka warns that “CapEx spend has been the biggest concern … that has eaten into that free cash flow.”
Additionally, while the “Magnificent Seven” names might intuitively feel like reliable picks to buy into, Yoshioka advises that “second- and third-tier tech companies … may have higher growth rates … [and] can benefit from AI a little bit more than the ******* hyperscalers can.”
To watch more expert insights and analysis on the latest market action, check out more Morning Brief here.

Six Nations 2025: Head coach Matt Sherratt says Wales must not be ‘chewed up’ by losing run
Six Nations 2025: Head coach Matt Sherratt says Wales must not be ‘chewed up’ by losing run
Wales had run Ireland close in Sherratt’s first game in charge, but could not replicate that intensity in the opening exchanges against Scotland.
Gregor Townsend’s side ran in four tries before the break to lead by 20 points as they outclassed Wales.
“We knew two things were going to be important,” said Sherratt.
“They edged the contestable kicking game and their defence at the contact area was so good.
“That’s what happened in the first 40 minutes as we gave their back three some run ups and they are dangerous.”
Sherratt has insisted it was those technical problems rather than any emotional issues.
“The easy thing is to say there was a drop off emotionally, but I don’t think that was the case,” said Sherratt.
“They are a good Scotland team and we’ve got to remember that. They’ve been together a long time and we ran into them on a good day.
“There was no lack of passion out there. There was a hell of a lot of effort from our boys in that last 20 minutes.
“It was nice to get that four-try bonus point, but what was more pleasing was seeing the desperation of them defending our line.
“The amount of tackles some of our forwards put into those sets was outstanding.”

The Last Of Us Season 2’s New Trailer Shows The Rift Between Joel And Ellie
The Last Of Us Season 2’s New Trailer Shows The Rift Between Joel And Ellie
It’s fitting that the new trailer for The Last of Us Season 2 begins with Joel and Ellie at a physical distance, because there’s an emotional gulf between them by the final scene shown. The upcoming season starts five years after Season 1, and Ellie doesn’t know what Joel did to save her yet. Once she finds out, things are never going to be the same between them.
The latest trailer is light on context if you’ve never played The Last of Us Part II. But Joel and Ellie found some relative peace in the intervening years. That’s coming to an end because their sanctuary isn’t as safe as they believed, as both the infected and outside forces are in play. That includes the newly introduced Abby (Kaitlyn Dever), who will play a major role this season. The trailer also features an early look at Joe Pantoliano as Eugene, a character who was only hinted at in the game.
The Last of Us Season 2 panel is currently underway at SXSW, and it’s being live-streamed on YouTube. Series stars Pedro Pascal, Bella Ramsey, and Gabriel Luna are on hand with Season 2 newcomers Young Mazino, Isabela Merced, and Kaitlyn Dever. Showrunners and series co-creators Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann also joined the panel as they unveiled the new trailer for Season 2. You can watch the panel below.
HBO drama EVP Francesa Orsi recently shared her belief that The Last of Us will only run four seasons. The storyline based on The Last of Us Part 2 is expected to take multiple seasons, but Druckmann has cast doubt on Naughty Dog and Sony making The Last of Us Part 3.
The Last of Us Season 2 will hit HBO and Max on Sunday, April 13.

‘Romeyka’ The Ancient Greek Dialect Spoken in Northern Turkey
‘Romeyka’ The Ancient Greek Dialect Spoken in Northern Turkey

Romeyka is a dialect of Greek spoken in the region of Trabzon (Trapezounta) and Pontus, around Turkey’s ****** Sea coast. Researchers say it bears striking resemblances to ancient Greek dialects.
Its speakers are Muslims but many also trace their lineage back to the Pontic Greeks, who mostly left Turkey for Greece during the population exchanges of the early 20th century.
However, this fascinating dialect is threatened and may become extinct, as only small communities in Northern Turkey still speak it. Professor Ioanna Sitaridou at Cambridge University is currently leading a team of academics researching the Romeyka dialect.
Romeyka, an endangered dialect
Romeyka is “the last surviving variety of Greek spoken in north-eastern Turkey in the area traditionally known as Pontus,” says Profesor Ioanna Sitaridou. Presently, only three Greek-speaking enclaves of the Romeyka dialect remain in the region in Çaykara, Sürmene, and Tonya.
During antiquity and the medieval *******, many inhabitants of Anatolia in what was then a part of the Byzantine Empire spoke a variety of the Greek language, which was the lingua franca of the region.
However, many of the region’s inhabitants adopted the Islamic religion as Antalolia was gradually conquered by the Ottoman Turks. Some of these converts kept their original languages, whereas others began to speak Ottoman Turkish more frequently. On the other hand, some ******* Turks and Cappadocians who migrated to north-eastern Anatolia adopted the local Greek dialects, before over time mostly adopted Turkish.
In any case, the linguistic evolution in the region was quite complex as the process of Islamization took place between the 15th and 18th centuries. In 1923 however, a population exchange occurred between Greece and Turkey, and virtually all Orthodox Christians, many of whom spoke Greek, were expelled from the region.
However, the Romeyka speakers were Muslims and therefore allowed to remain in Turkey. This explains the continued presence of a Greek dialect in the region, whereas most other Pontic Greeks were permanently expelled.
Only the very few remaining Greeks living on the islands of Imbros (Gökçeada) and Tenedos (Bozcaada), as well as those in Istanbul, and the descendants of expelled ******* Cretans, still speak Greek in Turkey.
Linguistic features and academic importance
The academics researching Romeyka have done so with urgency since this variety of the Greek language is now itself endangered. According to UNESCO, it is “definitely endangered” and the Encyclopedia of the World’s Endangered Languages lists it as “severely endangered”.
The linguistic profile of Romeyka is interesting for several reasons. The dialect has some influences from Turkish, like word orders, but several other elements are influenced by earlier features of Greek not present in modern dialects of Greek.
One of these is the preservation of the infinitive in Romeyka, whereas the infinitive is no longer used in modern Greek.
Romeyka is also different from modern Greek and neighboring languages and dialects with respect to negation, double object constructions, and multiple wh-fronting.
“Romeyka is a living language preserving structures only to be found in Classical Greek, which has been dead for more than 2,000 years,” says Professor Ioanna Sitaridou. “What these people are speaking is a variety of Greek far more archaic than other forms of Greek spoken today.”

Six Nations 2025: ‘Does it always have to be so dramatic, Scotland?’
Six Nations 2025: ‘Does it always have to be so dramatic, Scotland?’
This team has a well-developed and debilitating trend of falling asleep in games. They didn’t score in the last 33 minutes on Saturday.
A fortnight ago they went an hour without scoring against England, against Ireland they didn’t score for 41 minutes and then 26 minutes. Against Italy, they went 33 minutes without a point.
This is repeat behaviour from Scotland. Last season threw up similar numbers and so did the season before.
It didn’t cost them this time, but it remains a puzzler as to why this keeps happening. Are they always going to have the propensity for napping during games?
It’s why we can admire many of the things this team does, but it’s very hard to trust them. We can marvel at their creativity, but elan alone is not cutting it at the sharp end of the championship.
And so to Paris against the mighty French. Scotland at their very, very best are unpredictable enough, and mad enough, to make it a scary day for Fabien Galthie.
Scotland are not a conventional team. They have players that could hurt France. They have a mindset that could cut them open and give them much to think about.
They don’t have a hang-up about the French the way they do against the Irish. Psychology won’t be a problem.
France will surely win – and maybe very comfortably – because on top of the flair in the backline they have monsters up front. Many, many monsters.
They have eight starters and possibly another seven on the bench. To hell, Fabien, go 8-0 and be done with it. Bring out every brute, from Perpignan to Picardy.
France won a seismic victory in Dublin and will feel invincible now. Scotland won a shaky one in Edinburgh and Lord only knows how they’ll be feeling.
They won, though. That’s kinda the point. But does it always have to be so dramatic?
