Celtic’s Jota ruled out for up to nine months
Celtic’s Jota ruled out for up to nine months
Celtic winger Jota will be sidelined for between six to nine months with a cruciate ligament injury, manager Brendan Rodgers has confirmed.
The 26-year-old, who returned to the Scottish champions from Rennes in January, picked up a knee injury during Saturday’s 5-0 win over Dundee United.
Jota was taken off in the first-half at Tannadice as Celtic sealed a fourth consecutive Scottish Premiership title, the Portuguese wide man leaving the stadium on crutches.
“Sadly, it’s not good news for him or for us really,” Rodgers said. “It didn’t look as bad, but when he had the scan, it looks like he’ll probably be out for six to nine months.
“So he’s done his cruciate and a little bit of other damage in there. He’s quite upbeat and philosophical about it.”
Jota impressed in his first spell with Celtic, initially on loan from Benfica, but after being sold to Al-Ittihad in 2023, he fell out of favour with the Saudi club and at Rennes.
He has made 16 appearances, nine of them starts, after returning to Glasgow, scoring five goals.
“He’s had a challenging couple of years really after his move away from here to Saudi, but this will give him a chance to come back even stronger and grow.”
Celtic visit city rivals Rangers on Sunday as they look to avoid losing a third consecutive Old Firm league meeting.
More to follow.

Block plunges 20% as Cash App miss triggers downgrades
Block plunges 20% as Cash App miss triggers downgrades
Block shares were on track for their second-worst day Friday, plunging more than 20% as investors digested a brutal quarterly report and a wave of analyst downgrades centered on one issue: Cash App.
The first-quarter earnings miss rattled Wall Street, prompting multiple firms — including Wells Fargo, Seaport, BMO, and Benchmark — to downgrade the stock overnight. Many flagged fresh concerns around stagnant Cash App user growth, muted consumer demand, and a soft macro environment that may weigh on monetization.
“Stagnation in the number of active users of the app is even more concerning than users’ reduced spending,” Benchmark wrote in its note, downgrading Block to Hold.
The financial services company missed across the board — on revenue, gross profit, and payment volume — and slashed its full-year guidance, citing macro uncertainty, weaker consumer spending, and lower-than-expected inflows during what’s typically a strong tax refund season.
“I just don’t think we were focused enough and had enough attention on the network and the network density, and that is our foundation,” CEO Jack Dorsey said on the earnings call. “We of course want to deepen engagement with our customers through banking services and Borrow, and I have no doubt we will … but at the same time, we need to make sure that we continuously grow our network, and that starts with peer to peer.”
Cash App generated $1.38 billion in gross profit in the first quarter, up 10% from a year earlier, but shy of the $1.42 billion StreetAccount consensus. Monthly actives remained flat at 57 million — and inflows rose just 8%, despite new features like Afterpay on the Cash Card and broader efforts to position Cash App as a full-fledged banking alternative.
Stock Chart IconStock chart icon
Block 5 day stock chart
Wells Fargo called out “numerous Cash App monetization red flags,” while Seaport pointed to several consecutive quarters of negative GPV growth. Even Morgan Stanley, which reiterated its Overweight rating, called the Cash App miss “surprising” — though it highlighted better-than-expected momentum in the Square seller business, particularly in international markets.
BMO downgraded the stock to Market Perform. Wells Fargo said it’s unwilling to “lay out for the second half Hail Mary,” moving to Equal Weight. Seaport downgraded to Neutral, writing: “Will the real Jack Dorsey please stand up?”
Still, some maintained optimism, with Bank of America reiterating its Buy rating, calling the stock undervalued, and Morgan Stanley saying it was an attractive near-term entry point.
Block’s turnaround plan hinges on lending. The company says Cash App Borrow — now approved by the FDIC to originate loans through its bank subsidiary — will double the number of eligible users and improve margins by bringing servicing in-house.
Marketing spend is also expected to jump 50% in Q2 as Block looks to reaccelerate growth in the back half of the year.
“We are not sufficiently confident in the likelihood of such a rebound to recommend buying the stock on weakness,” Benchmark wrote.
Meanwhile, rival Venmo is showing signs of momentum.
Parent company PayPal reported a 20% revenue jump for the app in Q1, driven by increased adoption of Venmo’s debit card, instant transfers, and growing volume at checkout. While PayPal didn’t disclose an exact revenue figure for Venmo, it said monetization per user is improving — the result of a clear push to embed Venmo deeper into e-commerce flows.
Two very different strategies are now unfolding: Cash App is leaning deeper into lending and banking, while Venmo is chasing spend at checkout. But the goal, however, is the same: Owning the consumer’s wallet.
Right now, Venmo appears to be gaining ground, while Cash App is regrouping.

PAUL MURRAY: Anthony Albanese and Federal Labor have lied their way into poll position this election
PAUL MURRAY: Anthony Albanese and Federal Labor have lied their way into poll position this election
After going through the Budget process four times in three years, Treasurer Jim Chalmers finally told voters this week, right on the eve of the election, that the Federal Government is spending too much on consultants.
Such epiphanies happen rarely in modern politics, so I suppose we should be grateful.
He’d had four opportunities — the most recent just over a month ago — to perform the pre-Budget cabinet expenditure review committee process and apply a scalpel to any wasteful expenditure.
But now, with the need for some “savings” to cover an extra $6 billion in election handouts, Chalmers wants people to believe he has magically found $7b down the back of the sofa being wasted on outside advice.
That’s treating the public like chumps. It makes a mockery of the election promises costing process by blatantly inventing previously non-existent “savings.” Anyone could balance such a ********* ledger.
And there in a nutshell is the election campaign, in which Labor ramped up spending of borrowed money to buy votes and lied about debt as a matter of course.
Feel like giving the politicians a rating this Federal election?
Our Pollie Rater lets you do just that.
Rate the politiciansCamera IconLiberal volunteers got their signs behind Anthony Albanese while he was campaigning in Braddon with deputy Richard Marles and candidate Anne Urquhart. Credit: Jason Edwards / NewsWire/News Corp Australia
A Government that tried to legislate against “misinformation and disinformation” is likely to be returned to power after five weeks of concentrated lying to the nation about its future. Orwellian.
Anthony Albanese’s dishonesty got more brazen as the campaign extended, constantly repeating mistruths on which he had been publicly exposed, as if it just doesn’t matter to him.
And it clearly doesn’t. Whatever it takes, as his great Labor mate Graham Richardson famously said.
As for the voters, we make our choices. And we will have to live with them.
Maybe there should be term limits on all politicians, turfing them out after several elections before cynicism becomes ingrained in their behaviour. And before they become addicted to the perks of office.
Albanese was shown up by the *********** Financial Review’s Phil Coorey in the third TV debate when the Prime Minister claimed Labor inherited a $78b deficit and had turned it into a surplus.
Coorey confronted him with evidence that the $78b figure was only a projection in the Coalition’s 2021-22 Budget which had dropped to an actual $31b deficit by the time Labor won office.
So, in reality, Albanese had inherited an improved Budget position. But this week he continued to promote the $78b lie, even when the truth was again repeatedly pointed out to him.
Surely that says something about the bloke’s character? If it does, it’s not bothering the bulk of Australians.
Do voters tolerate their political leaders lying to them these days as long as the handouts keep coming? Or are they so disconnected they don’t notice?
Camera IconDebate final showdown. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Opposition leader Peter Dutton Credit: Unknown/7Plus
Chalmers was as bad this week, trying to cover the reckless election spending with that invention of $7b in savings he couldn’t find for the Budget a month ago, while desperately downplaying warnings by credit agency S&P that his profligacy was risking Australia’s AAA rating.
“The AAA rating on Australia may be at risk if election promises result in larger, structural deficits, and debt and interest expenses rising more than we expect,” the S&P report says. “The Budget is already regressing to moderate deficits as public spending hits post-war highs, global trade tensions intensify, and growth slows.
“How the elected government funds its campaign pledges and rising spending will be crucial for maintaining the rating.”
What was Albanese’s response? He went on the ABC’s 7.30 Report that night and lied when asked if the credit rating was under threat.
“Well, there is no suggestion frankly; the AAA credit rating is there,” he said, denying what had specifically been stated by S&P.
“They must have been besides themselves, whoever wrote that particular report, when the coalition left us with a $78b deficit. We turned that into a $22b surplus.”
No, you didn’t. But being the ABC, Albanese was not corrected, as he had been just the day before by a Sky News reporter when he rolled out the $78b lie again.
People have probably forgotten, but when Albanese fluffed a series of questions in the first week of the 2022 election campaign, he said this: “When I make a mistake, I’ll fess up to it and I’ll set about correcting that mistake.”
That seems a very long time ago now. I’d trade an honest mistake for a blatant lie any day.
And then on Wednesday, Chalmers actually said that the Government had “got the debt down” when the pre-election Budget update figures he released that day confirmed it will hit $1.2 trillion by 2029 after busting through the one trillion barrier next year, earlier than expected. Incorrigible.
So there’s two certainties about Labor and our debt-laden economy: It will get worse — the Budget figures confirm that — and they now instinctively lie about it to try to cover their ineptitude.
Labor’s obsessive demonisation of the simplest attempt at fiscal restraint — like limiting the spending on the public service that the Albanese Government has blown out — has made sound economic management a political no-go zone.
There is certainly no way Labor will prune back any significant spending programs in the next three years after what they have said about cuts.
And too few Australians can see that the tough measures being taken by the bogeyman who turned this election on its head, Donald Trump, is what happens when governments let a nation’s economy descend into a debt crisis like America’s.
Which is exactly where we are headed with no solutions in sight.
Camera IconNSW Premier Chris Minns threw his support behind Anthony Albanese at the final Labor rally of the election campaign. Credit: Jason Edwards / NewsWire/News Corp Australia
It was ironic that Monday’s paper featured a picture of Albanese at a Sydney Labor event, holding aloft popular Premier Chris Minns’ hand.
Albanese has been boosted by a dishonest twisting of the Liberals’ work-from-home policy, which was contained to the Canberra-based workforce, and nothing more than a reflection of what Minns is pursuing in NSW.
The media generally has chosen to ignore the obvious contradiction between a Labor State Government demanding public servants turn up for work in the office and a Federal Labor Government saying a similar Liberal policy would spread to the private workforce. Is the NSW Labor approach having that effect?
Albanese was never forced to explain this blatant hole in his disinformation strategy. The media has been complicit in one of the biggest lies of the campaign.
Sadly, even sensible members of the Labor cabinet, like Resources Minister Madeleine King, have been dragged into the vortex of election dishonesty.
King’s claim that the Liberal plan for a small nuclear reactor at Collie would threaten the Margaret River wine industry 150km away was one of the lowest points of a grubby campaign.
I lived in France for a while in the 1980s near a nuclear reactor on the Rhone River, sited just 40km from the much more famous Chateauneuf du Pape wineries.
Camera IconEven when the Nationals do well, the Liberal primary vote now has to be substantially higher than Labor’s to win. Credit: LUKAS COCH/AAPIMAGE
King should be more concerned with the realities of the blackouts this week caused in Spain and Portugal by a misguided rush into an unstable renewables-dominated electricity system than in fabricating scare campaigns over nuclear power.
The reality of this election is that whether Labor is returned in a ********* or majority, it will be by Greens voters, most of whom despise the Albanese Government but want to use its weakness to deliver their extremist agenda, which is not shared by 90 per cent of Australians.
At the 2022 election, of the 77 seats Labor won, seven were decided on Greens preferences in counts where the Liberals had been leading on the last distribution. Labor could not have formed government without those seats.
The Liberals were similarly beaten in seven other seats where they were ahead in the final round, which fell to Greens-preferenced independents, such as Kate Chaney in Curtin. The Coalition consequently ended with 58 seats instead of 65, which would have got it over the line.
As ABC election analyst Antony Green noted “the 2022 result is the latest to highlight that since 1990 preferential voting has worked overwhelmingly in favour of Labor”. And no other comparable country combines non-optional preferential voting with compulsory voting.
The bottom line is that even when the Nationals do well enough to contribute their share of seats for a Coalition government, the Liberal primary vote now has to be substantially higher than Labor’s to win.
That was Peter Dutton’s challenge.
Until Trump entered the election fight, Dutton had succeeded in pushing it up as an effective Opposition Leader, but appears to have failed to translate it into votes during a disastrous campaign.
If only Labor could govern as well as it plays politics or creates social media memes.

Are Trump’s tariffs just punishing China for being good at what it does?
Are Trump’s tariffs just punishing China for being good at what it does?
Guangzhou, China — The annual Canton Fair in Guangzhou is China‘s largest import-export trade show. It covers a space equal to about 200 football fields and has been running since 1957 — when China’s economy was isolated from the rest of the world. The country’s leaders decided the expo, since formally named the China Import and Export Fair, was the best way to overcome trade obstacles imposed by the West and to drum up business investment and interest from overseas markets.
In the almost seven decades since, China has transformed into the world’s manufacturing powerhouse. But President Xi Jinping’s government believes the U.S. is once again working to isolate China, through President Trump’s tariff trade war, and that Washington will try to force other countries — and their consumers — to pick a side.
Richard Qiu told CBS News it’s simply unfair. Wearing a pale blue Ralph Lauren shirt, the businessman invited CBS News to sit down in his display booth at the Canton Fair for a chat. Surrounded by thousands of small fabric gift bags designed for everything from Christmas to Easter to birthdays, the fact that Qiu even quickly agreed to an interview was disarming; Every other ******** businessperson we approached turned our camera away, wary of speaking with foreign media.
His openness and warmth indicated a sense of ease with Westerners, and more importantly, his desire to tell his story about how external forces, completely out of his control, were affecting him and his livelihood.
Qiu’s Liaoning Perfect Import/Export Co. Ltd has been making gift bags for 20 years, and he has fostered strong relationships with his U.S. customers, who, in recent years, have made up 30-40% of his exports. He’s traveled to the U.S. at least six times and says he loves the country: “It’s about freedom, democracy, it’s open and fair.”
“But this isn’t fair,” he said of the trade war sparked by President Trump’s steep tariffs. “It makes me feel sick about the U.S. now.”
An overseas buyer visits the gifts and premium area of the second phase of the 137th Canton Fair, April 27, 2025, in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province, China.

Mr. Trump insists his tariffs will, despite current economic pain in the U.S., bring manufacturing back to America and buoy the economy, reshaping the global trade system. But Qiu said it’s about something else. He believes President Trump is punishing China for being the best at producing everyday products at affordable prices, and using that prowess to dominate the global market.
“Our people are industrious, diligent, working hard to make the products good price, good quality, to sell all over the world. It’s not our problem,” he said. “I think it’s your problem.”
Since Mr. Trump imposed 145% tariffs on all ******** imports — though the White House later exempted smartphones and some other electronics from the levies — Qiu says his U.S. sales have ground to a halt.
“U.S. buyers said, ‘Richard you have to stop production; we have to cancel it.’ I think 90% of my U.S. orders will be canceled.”
For years, the Canton Fair has been packed with American buyers looking to bring their customers back at home the best possible deals on offer. But this year, officials admitted to CBS News that the numbers are way down — another sign of President Trump’s trade war taking hold.
One American we did come across perusing the stalls in Guangzhou wasn’t there to buy, but rather to research new products.
“Tariffs are going to come down at some point and we need to be ready for it,” Jonathan Scheerz who lives in Michigan, where he runs a homewares business, told CBS News. He said he got a lot of orders in for products from China before Mr. Trump’s inauguration, because he was anticipating a trade war — but not like this.
“I don’t want to bring them in at the current tariff rate,” he lamented. “It just doesn’t work. It’s too high, but I also don’t believe it’s going to last months and months.”
The optimism is based on his belief that no one does it better than China when it comes to offering so many different products at such low prices.
“In my eyes, China produces what you want,” Scheerz said. “Simple as that.”
But if the trade war does drag on, many business owners who spoke with CBS News off camera said they were prepared to take the pain.
Qiu knows tough days are ahead. He’s looking to diversify his export portfolio in Europe, but there’s only so much the market can absorb, so it’s uncertain times.
“It’s like a war, I think. Under a war, the most suffering is the people, no matter if it’s the U.S. or China,” he told CBS News.
Qiu added, however, that over the course of China’s history, the country has endured real hardship and pain, and he believes the ******** people have the strength and fortitude to do it again.
“If we do something unfair, I will not support the government, but it’s your government — the U.S. government that’s put unfair things on us, so we say, ‘okay, we fight.'”

Trump turns civil rights upside down in ‘biggest rollback’ since Reconstruction
Trump turns civil rights upside down in ‘biggest rollback’ since Reconstruction
A version of this story appeared in CNN’s What Matters newsletter. To get it in your inbox, sign up for free here.
The government under President Donald Trump is bending the arc of US history in a new direction, away from the civil rights focus of the past 60 plus years.
Addressing or even acknowledging racial injustice toward people of color is out.
Separating church and state is out, according to Trump.
Exposing anti-Christian bias and being ‘anti-woke’ is in.
The Department of Justice division created by the landmark 1957 Civil Rights Act to defend American’s rights has a new mission: rooting out anti-Christian bias, antisemitism and “woke ideology,” the head of the division, Harmeet Dhillon, recently told conservative commentator Glenn Beck.
A majority of the lawyers at the Civil Rights division – people who got jobs there to ensure equal access to the ballot box, perhaps – are expected to resign with pay until September.
At a White House Cabinet meeting Wednesday, secretaries repeatedly sought praise from Trump for purging diversity efforts from the government.
“We’re not organizing money based on the color of skin,” said Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins, referring to contracts cancelled at USDA.
“If you’re having DEI policies, we’re not going to fund your projects,” said Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy, bragging about how the administration will use taxpayer dollars to kill diversity efforts in states.
Office of Management and Budget Director Russell Vought told Trump the administration had forgiven money a Chicago lender paid as part of a discrimination settlement.
“We’ve ripped wokeness out of the military, sir, DEI, trans. And it’s Fort Benning and Fort Bragg again at the DOD,” said Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, referring to bases that again share names with Confederate generals.
The administration is also working to strong-arm elite universities into dropping DEI programs by threatening billions in funding, including for scientific research. Harvard, so far, has decided to fight back.
But there are other examples, such as the fact that while the US has stopped accepting refugees for the most part, it is accepting White South Africans who claim they are the victims of racism in their country.
Not since Reconstruction
It’s a much larger pivot than simply changing hiring practices and stopping so-called DEI efforts.
“This is certainly the biggest rollback of civil rights since Reconstruction,” according to Mark Updegrove, a presidential historian and CEO of the LBJ Foundation.
Trump’s policies and the way he’s orienting his government combine as an assault on the Great Society legislation Johnson pushed through in the 1960s, including the Voting Rights Act, the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965.
President Lyndon B. Johnson shakes the hand of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. at the signing of the Civil Rights Act. – Getty Images
Comparing Trump’s effort to purge the country of diversity efforts and deconstruct the Great Society legislation, Updegrove drew a parallel between now and the ******* beginning during Reconstruction when post-Civil War advances like the 13th Amendment were hurt by the rise of White Supremacy and Jim Crow.
“We’re seeing something very similar now, rolling back the advances of the 1960s,” he said. While those Great Society laws were meant to be temporary measures to create a more equal society, Updegrove said the US is not yet there. “So called anti-wokeism,” he argued, is “essentially permission to accept racism.”
Cuts to Medicaid spending, higher education programs like Pell Grants, or Head Start programs would also hurt efforts at making the US a more equitable society.
“If you ultimately look at what Trump is doing, it is aimed at taking down the laws of the Great Society, which are effectively, in my view, the foundation of modern America and the path to a plural democracy for the first time in our history.”
Retreat from civil rights and a push into religious freedom
While Trump’s government is retreating from any effort by the federal government to pursue racial justice, it is leaning hard into ending what it sees as anti-Christian bias.
A task force helmed by Attorney General Pam Bondi and focused on “eradicating” anti-Christian bias in the government held its first meeting this week.
At the majority-Catholic Supreme Court, justices were re-evaluating the separation of church and state this week. Conservative justices seemed open during oral arguments to the idea of taxpayer dollars going to fund a Catholic charter school in Oklahoma. The conservative Justice Amy Coney Barrett recused herself from the arguments, leaving the outcome likely up to Chief Justice John Roberts.
A cross sits atop the Archdiocese of Oklahoma City on April 17 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. – Nick Oxford/AP
The Solicitor General of the United States, D. John Sauer, who previously represented Trump before the court, argued on behalf of the Catholic charter school.
“We’re bringing religion back to our country,” Trump promised at a prayer breakfast in Washington on Thursday, where he said he will also sign a new executive order to create another commission, this one focused on religious liberty.
Trump seemed to acknowledge that some people might be surprised to hear that there is bias against Christians in a country that is majority Christian.
“You haven’t heard that, but there’s anti-Christian bias, also,” he said.
Even many Christians say it does not exist in the widespread way it is being portrayed by Trump’s administration.
“When he discusses anti-Christian bias, he isn’t referring to Christianity at large or mainstream Christianity, which includes Episcopalians, Catholics, Lutherans, Quakers, and even the LDS Church,” said Rev. Paul Brandeis Raushenbush of the Interfaith Alliance during an appearance on CNN after the announcement of the commission to eradicate anti-Christian bias.
Brandeis is among those who worry of a slide away from the freedom of religion envisioned at the nation’s founding and toward a Christian nationalism.
“This White House exploits faith for power, following a Christian nationalist playbook,” he said.

Edge’s doomed challenge to Chrome is embarrassing for Microsoft – is it time to stop forcing the browser on us in Windows 11?
Edge’s doomed challenge to Chrome is embarrassing for Microsoft – is it time to stop forcing the browser on us in Windows 11?
Microsoft Edge slipped slightly to 13.29% according to Statcounter’s latest figures for the browser market in April 2025
Edge has been stuck around the 13% mark for over a year now
To make progress, Microsoft needs to rethink its strategy, and stop overzealously promoting Edge in Windows 11
Microsoft’s Edge browser appears to be facing a distinctly uphill battle in the browser wars, with its market share having clearly stalled over the past year.
Granted, that percentage share of the browser market has been bobbling up and down a bit as time has passed, going by analytics firm Statcounter’s global figures. But the upshot is Edge doesn’t seem to be making any real headway against Google’s Chrome browser.
As Neowin noticed, with April’s browser stats, Edge is on 13.29% which is a slight loss of 0.08% on March 2025. If we rewind a year, it’s actually up a little bit, but the increase is marginal with a 0.32% gain.
You may like
Essentially, Edge has been stuck around the 13% mark for over a year now, and has been unable to break free of the shackles of that particular number.
At the start of 2024, it crept over 13%, then hit 13.8% in August 2024, seeming to make some decent progress – except it dropped back down under 13% towards the end of last year.
Then it rose like a phoenix (ahem) to reach 13.9% in February 2025, again a solid uptick, before dropping back down (like a phoenix somebody turned a fire hose on) to 13.29% this past month.
In short, whenever there’s an increase that makes it look like Edge could get over 14%, the browser appears to shed users again. And given how far away Microsoft’s app is from Chrome – which is way in the lead on 65% – it’s not looking good for the overall campaign to dethrone Google here.

Actually, looking at the entire browser market in recent history, nothing is really doing much – it’s a very static overall picture. All the major browsers have pretty much flatlined, and are maintaining a strict balance of power, with only minor fluctuations from month-to-month.
Chrome holds most of that power, as noted, and Edge is a very distant second, ahead of Safari and Firefox which are a good way behind it (relatively speaking at the low-end). Opera is the other minor player bringing up the rear, but whichever graph you look at, it’s pretty much a straight line through the months for all these browsers, with very slight bobbles.
What is Microsoft getting wrong? Well, I know it’s a well-beaten drum, but I’m convinced part of the problem is the overzealous promotion of Edge in Windows 11 (and 10). These kind of exercises – which have been numerous in recent history – only smack of desperation, and will likely turn off people, rather than persuade them to give Edge a chance.
I know that repeated prompts to make Edge my default browser have annoyed me quite a number of times, cropping up here and there, and I’m sure I am not alone (a quick rifle through some online posts on typical forums like Reddit underlines this).
The crying shame is that Edge is actually a good product. Indeed, it’s rated as the top pick in our roundup of the best web browsers, so it deserves to be a meaningful rival to Chrome, even if it’s not perfect. And Microsoft is working to iron out some of those imperfections, like bloat, slowly but surely.
What does Microsoft need to do to stand a chance of breaking through the 15% barrier, then? Well, keep on the path of streamlining by all means, but just shut up about Edge in Windows 11 (or elsewhere), and try to get a turnaround in the public perception of the browser being overly promoted. Because that only leads to suspicion that Edge needs to be promoted because it’s not all that great – which isn’t true.
Microsoft positioning itself to gain favor and more goodwill from the computing public in this way could stand Edge in good stead, given that the top dog browser is currently navigating some unsteady waters, with Google currently under fire regarding selling off Chrome.
Or there’s an idea: just buy Chrome, Microsoft. Of course, that remote prospect would be highly unlikely to fly with regulators as it’s rather an ‘out of the fire and into the frying pan’ solution.

Tether eyes U.S. expansion with new stablecoin as CEO courts Washington
Tether eyes U.S. expansion with new stablecoin as CEO courts Washington
DUBAI, United Arab Emirates — Tether, the world’s largest stablecoin issuer, is preparing to launch a U.S.-based stablecoin as soon as this year, as its CEO ramps up his presence in Washington to shape crypto regulation.
In an interview with CNBC this week, Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino revealed that the company is working on plans to issue a new dollar-pegged stablecoin in the U.S. as soon as this year. The move comes as Tether, once accused of being a criminal’s ‘go-to cryptocurrency’ – rebrands itself as a partner to American lawmakers and law enforcement.
“A domestic stablecoin would be different from the international stable coin,” Ardoino told CNBC’s Dan Murphy at the Token2049 conference in Dubai on Wednesday. “It depends on the timeline of the final legislation… but we are looking at that by the end of the year, or early next year at the fastest,” he said.
But the timing and tactics of that next step are raising eyebrows on Capitol Hill.
Ardoino’s recent charm offensive in Washington, which included private meetings with lawmakers, a Capitol Hill lunch with Senator Bill Hagerty and parties with crypto insiders, according to a New York Times report, has put a spotlight on Tether amid the pro-crypto shift under President Trump.
That influence may now be helping shape key legislation, including the GOP-backed GENIUS Act, which critics say includes loopholes that benefit Tether and other foreign issuers – such as provisions allowing operations in the U.S. if they agree to work with law enforcement.
The logos of the cryptocurrencies Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), the stablecoin Tether (USDT) and Binance Coin (BNB) can be seen on the trading platform CoinMarketCap.

Tether, headquartered in El Salvador, has made legal cooperation key to its lobbying narrative despite a history of regulatory penalties.
“There is no company… even in the traditional financial system, that has such a breadth of collaboration with law enforcement,” Ardoino said. “We are always trying to do better and more to block criminal activity…. we have much better tools than the traditional financial system and we’re proving that everyday.”
Ardoino also addressed concerns about the firm’s ability to back its digital assets. In 2021, Tether settled with the New York attorney general for $18.5 million over allegations it lied about its reserves. It now publishes attestation reports and holds billions in U.S. Treasuries – managed by Wall Street heavyweight Cantor Fitzgerald – and Ardoino insists the business is well capitalised in the event of a market shock.
“We are very close to having $120 billion in U.S. Treasuries in our reserves,” he said. “We have $7 billion in excess equity within the company capital. That is really unprecedented and I wish financial institutions in the traditional financial system would at least try to copy us to provide better products for their consumers.”
Tether’s latest attestation report confirmed the firm holds about $120 billion in U.S. Treasuries. Its first quarter independent auditors’ report confirmed assets and reserves exceed liabilities by almost $5.6 billion, a decrease from more than $7 billion in its December audit.
Tether’s partnership with Cantor, now run by the sons of U.S. Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, has also raised questions. Ardoino told CNBC he doesn’t speak with Secretary Lutnick “because there are proper walls given the potential conflict of interest,” but added “we have great relationships with many people in the U.S. and also now in Washington.”
Eric Trump and his older brother Donald Trump Jr. recently announced plans to launch a U.S. dollar-backed stablecoin through World Liberty Financial, the finance venture backed by President Donald Trump.

Xbox Game Pass Titles Are Doing So Well on Playstation That I’m Not Even Worried About Doom: The Dark Ages
Xbox Game Pass Titles Are Doing So Well on Playstation That I’m Not Even Worried About Doom: The Dark Ages
When Microsoft first announced that it would be releasing first-party Xbox titles on PlayStation, we called them crazy. But the decision is no longer controversial now because it has proven to be wildly successful. During the company’s Q3 FY25 earnings call, CEO Satya Nadella confirmed that Microsoft had become the top publisher on the PlayStation Store.
This is based on pre-orders and pre-installs from January through March 2025. I don’t know how they did it, but this is an incredible way to come back into the market. And with Doom: The Dark Ages confirmed for a PS5 release, it’s clear Microsoft’s pivot from hardware to content-first strategy is paying off handsomely.
Microsoft has found the path to success with Xbox
From January through March 2025, Microsoft topped its own charts, but it was also the number one publisher on PlayStation in terms of pre-orders and pre-installs. CEO Satya Nadella noted this during the company’s Q3 FY25 earnings call.
Satya: We ended the quarter as the top publisher on both Xbox and PlayStations store for pre-orders and pre-install
PCGame Pass increased over 45% yoy
— Brad Sams (@bdsams) April 30, 2025
We can attribute this success to the success of key games like Indiana Jones and the Great Circle and Forza Horizon 5 that recently arrived on PS5. Aside from this, the company’s gaming division is also on a positive momentum. Gaming revenue was up 5% year-over-year in Q3, largely due to a big 8% rise in Xbox content and services.
We already knew Microsoft was shifting its focus to accessibility instead of exclusivity, and now, the ecosystem extends far beyond Xbox hardware. Much of this momentum can be attributed to the success of Game Pass, a subscription service that now defines Microsoft’s gaming business. Simply put, players are subscribing and staying, and Microsoft is reaping the benefits.
– Gaming Revenue was up 5%
– Hardware revenue declined 6%
- Content and services revenue up 8% driven by growth in Xbox Game Pass, Call of Duty, and Minecraft
— Brad Sams (@bdsams) April 30, 2025
If there were any doubts about this approach, Q3 FY25 shut them down. Xbox Cloud Gaming surpassed 150 million hours of playtime for the quarter, setting a new record. Xbox has gone from a box under your TV to a platform across console, PC, and cloud. And this new data tells us that even Sony fans are buying in. It’s no longer a battle of consoles; it’s a battle of services, and Microsoft is winning.
There’s no stopping this train with the new Doom game releasing in May
Microsoft is running this train track by track. | Image Credit: id Software
Looking to May 2025, the stage is set for Doom: The Dark Ages to perform just as well, if not better. And there’s no reason to believe it won’t. Set to release on May 15, the game is available day one on Xbox Game Pass and is also launching on PlayStation at the same time. We’re seeing Microsoft further commit to accessibility, and it looks like it’ll work big time.
Interestingly, all of this success was followed by the news that the Xbox brand is going to see price increases across the board. As of May 1, Microsoft raised prices on Xbox Series consoles, controllers, and accessories globally. The company also announced that select first-party games would cost $80 starting this holiday season.
Microsoft has framed these changes to be necessary due to rising development costs and market conditions. We’ll have to wait and see how this affects the company. People were buying Xbox consoles even less, and with increased prices, it might go down even lower. But why would Microsoft intentionally do that? What do you think is going on?

Rockstar’s hotly anticipated GTA VI delayed — dev confirms release now set for May 2026
Rockstar’s hotly anticipated GTA VI delayed — dev confirms release now set for May 2026
Rockstar Games finally released a definite release date for the much-awaited Grand Theft Auto 6, and it will leave many fans disappointed. That’s because the publisher announced on the Rockstar page that it will release the title on May 26, 2026, which is five to six months longer than the anticipated Fall 2025 launch date. If GTA VI stays on schedule, it will be released some 13 years after GTA V, which launched on September 17, 2013.
The gap between GTA V and GTA VI is the longest time between sequels for the much anticipated series. GTA V came out five years after GTA IV, while the latter arrived some four years after GTA: San Andreas. One possible reason it took so long for a full-fledged sequel is the success of GTA Online, which has been raking in the dollars for Rockstar. A former developer even said that GTA’s online service is so much of a cash cow that it allegedly tanked a standalone DLC for the original game.
GTA Online receives new events, discounts, and bonuses every week, helping keep things fresh for players. It also received major content updates twice a year — usually in June (Summer Update) and December (Winter Update), which gives players new vehicles, missions, gameplay features, and more. GTA Online even released a new map once, allowing players to explore a map outside of the already expansive San Andreas.
Still, 13 years is an eternity for gamers, and the game is getting long in the tooth despite the continuous updates. GTA V was also built in mind for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, and two console generations have already passed since its launch. That means the game isn’t taking full advantage of the technology we have today, even though Rockstar released a PC update to take advantage of ray tracing and other graphics features.
GTA VI seems to be taking advantage of the more powerful hardware we have available today, with the game trailer showing more people, animals, and vehicles on the screen and a further drawing distance. Aside from that, the game is seemingly set in the early 2020s, with our current technology and society reflected in the in-game world, and it looks like we’re finally getting a female protagonist in the main storyline.

3 PlayStation Plus games to play this weekend (May 2-4)
3 PlayStation Plus games to play this weekend (May 2-4)
Table of Contents
Table of Contents
Doom
Star Wars Episode 1 – The Phantom Menace
Wild Arms
After a huge month for PlayStation fans in April, there’s almost no time to breathe heading into May for upcoming PS5 games. The first major game on the horizon is Doom: The Dark Ages for the hardcore FPS fans out there, with the long-awaited Lost Soul Aside ready to finish off the month with a huge exclusive. Throw in a smattering of other interesting games and you may not have time for it all. We’re in the calm before the storm this weekend, which is also something of an honorary holiday among us nerds. We know exactly which games from the massive PS Plus library you should be playing this weekend.
Doom
One of the oldest FPS franchises is back and going medieval halfway into May, so now is the time to hone your ******-killing skills before we get a chance to rip and tear into The Dark Ages. Don’t let it sink in, but the first of the new trilogy came out 9 years ago now. That’s a long time, and we imagine a lot of you out there haven’t touched it in years. Yes, the next game is a prequel and you won’t have any less fun ripping the eyeballs out of demons if you skipped right to the new game, but we enjoy at least sampling the older games before the new installment, sort of like an appetizer. A very bloody appetizer.
Doom is available now on PS4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC.
Star Wars Episode 1 – The Phantom Menace
This Sunday is none other than May 4; the day one day a year we all get a free pass to annoy the general public by wishing them “May the fourth be with you.” If you want to fully celebrate the franchise set in a galaxy far, far away, PS Plus has a ton of nostalgic Star Wars games to pick from. We chose Star Wars Episode 1 – The Phantom Menace, but Clone Wars, Bounty Hunter, and Rebel Assault are all equally great options. If you don’t have nostalgia for this title, it might be better to go for one of the PS2 titles, or even Survivor from 2023. Whichever way you go, show Star Wars some love this weekend.
Star Wars Episode 1 – The Phantom Menace is available now on PS4, PS5, and PC.
Wild Arms
If the hype around Clair Obscure: Expedition 33 has sparked an interest in JRPGs that don’t use the typical anime-inspired style and storytelling, let us introduce you to Wild Arms. This classic PS1 game is a very traditional turn-based RPG without the action-command system of dodging and parrying but isn’t any less fun. For one, the melding of Western influences with traditional JRPG fantasy is a fresh feel that isn’t often seen. Combat also has a lot of depth and is completely focused on one core party for the entire game that you will grow quite attached to. It is also not a gruelingly long game, nor does it require a ton of grinding, and there are several sequels if you fall in love with this world.
Wild Arms is available now on PS4 and PS5.

Prince Harry loses legal challenge over security
Prince Harry loses legal challenge over security
The Duke of Sussex has lost a legal challenge over the levels of security he and his family are entitled to while in the ***.
Prince Harry had been seeking to overturn a decision that had downgraded his security after he stopped being a working royal and moved to the US with the Duchess of Sussex.
His lawyers had argued that he had been “singled out” for “inferior treatment”, but the court ruling upheld that there had been nothing unlawful about how the decision had been reached.
Prince Harry has previously said that worries about safety have prevented him from coming to the *** and bringing his wife Meghan and their children.
The dispute between Prince Harry and the government arose after he and Meghan stepped back from frontline royal duties in January 2020 and moved overseas.
Friday’s ruling comes after Prince Harry appealed against a judicial review of a High Court decision regarding his protection in the ***.
That judicial review was asked to decide whether the High Court had acted lawfully when it upheld the government’s position that Prince Harry and his family should not be automatically entitled to the same level of security as other senior royals.
The current arrangement does not prohibit the prince from getting police protection, but it is not automatic and he has to give plenty of notice of visits.
While Prince Harry does still get police protection in the ***, he has argued that the levels he is entitled to could expose him and his family to danger.
Decisions overs the security of senior royals are taken on behalf of the Home Office by a committee called the Protection of Royalty and Public Figures (Ravec).
Prince Harry’s legal team have argued that Ravec did not properly re-assess the threats he faced when considering his situation in 2020, shortly after he and the Duchess of Sussex stepped back from frontline royal duties.
Ravec had concluded that because Prince Harry was going to be an infrequent visitor to the ***, his security needs would be assessed on a case by case basis.

DJI’s Osmo Pocket 3 camera now starts at $799 following Trump’s tariffs
DJI’s Osmo Pocket 3 camera now starts at $799 following Trump’s tariffs
If you’re concerned about how new US tariffs might affect future electronics purchases, look no further than DJI. The company has raised the price of its popular Osmo Pocket 3 camera to $799, or $280 (54 percent) more than it cost at launch. The Pocket 3 Creator Combo that includes a wireless Mic 2 and other accessories also went up from $700 to $950. Recent tariffs levied by President Trump on ******** products were “certainly among the key considerations” for the hefty price bumps, the company told The Verge.
The Osmo Pocket 3 was a success from the get go, thanks to the built-in gimbal, motorized subject tracking and large 1-inch sensor that delivers excellent video quality, even in low light. It’s widely beloved by content creators for those reasons and is a recommended option in several of Engadget’s camera buying guides — in fact we bought some for our own reporters.
It’s fair to say that the new tariffs are 100 percent behind the price increase, despite DJI’s diplomatic wording. The price is the same as at launch in Europe and in Canada, suggesting that there are no other technical reasons to raise it. DJI quietly boosted the US price from $520 to $620 a couple of months ago, around the time that Trump first announced potential tariffs on ******** products. Other DJI products like drones have yet to rise in price, however.
DJI said that the Osmo Pocket 3 is one of the best selling products in the history of the company and that it’s popularity “continues to exceed expectations.” However, much of that popular was likely due to the original $520 price (on top of the camera’s strong feature set), that was a bargain next to standard compact cameras like Canon’s new $899 PowerShot V1. At $799, the Pocket 3 loses some of its competitive advantage.
It’s difficult to find the Pocket 3 in the US (and elsewhere) at any price at the moment, though DJI says it’s striving to keep up with demand. On top of all that, the company is facing a full ban of its drone products in the US in 2026 unless it obtains an exemption from regulators. That will affect the company as well as consumers, as its drones are widely used in production, emergency services and elsewhere — and it’s far ahead of rivals in terms of technology. DJI sent a formal letter to five national security agencies (DHS, DoD, FBI, NSA, and ODNI) in March requesting that any or all of the agencies begin evaluating its products “right away.”

Fans, analysts savage coach Longmuir as Fremantle’s Melbourne struggles continue
Fans, analysts savage coach Longmuir as Fremantle’s Melbourne struggles continue
Fremantle have once again been humiliated in Melbourne, and fans are sharpening their knives for Justin Longmuir, with patience wearing thin.
Any goodwill the Dockers and Longmuir built in their win over Adelaide on Anzac Day quickly dissipated at Marvel as Fremantle kicked just one goal in a half of football on their way to a 61-point hammering.
Even before the final siren had sounded, the reaction from fans was savage.
“I’ve been a longtime Longmuir defender but this low-key should be a career destroyer for him,” one X user said.
“If we lose tonight, Longmuir needs to fall on his sword and walk away. No more, ‘we didn’t play our brand of football’, or ‘I’ll put my hand up, I clearly didn’t prepare them the right way’… this is just not acceptable,” another wrote.
“I’m not one for sacking coaches. But with this list, how does Longmuir still have a job. It’s just not the results, it’s the putrid game plan,” another said.
“At what point do Fremantle concede that Justin Longmuir is a failed experiment and move forward. 1 finals series from this selectively competitive group is not sufficient.
“If Freo don’t win this, Longmuir should resign. 7 points at half-time, what a joke. So Dockery.”

It comes as Fremantle CEO Simon Garlick said pre-game he had no doubt Longmuir would be their coach next year.
“Yeah, absolutely! JL’s doing a phenomenal job,” he said on ABC. “Like any senior coach, they tend to get all the blame when the result doesn’t go our way, and when you win games of footy, the credit tends to get spread around a whole bunch of people.
“He’s still learning, growing and has a great team around him. We’re incredibly pleased with him.”
Critics are not just coming from behind the keyboard, with AFL analysts also at a loss to explain the Dockers’ Marvel horror show.
“They just might be broken,” said Jason Dunstall of Fremantle’s effort.
“They are getting nothing from their midfield, their midfield unit as a whole is just not functioning.”
“It’s been an embarrassing outing for Freo,” Garry Lyon said.
“That’s where this footy club are at right now, they think they’re trying and they’re not,” he said during the match.
“The reason they’re not is the other side in red white and ****** have taken away their will and want.”
With Longmuir once again facing the music many fans have already made their mind up on who they want to lead them, with former Sydney coach John Longmire the popular pick.
“Could sack him tomorrow and hire Longmire,” one user said.
“Longmuir out, Longmire in,” another said.
“Longmire for Longmuir by the end of the year.”

Nvidia RTX 50 GPUs make a small splash in the Steam Survey — AMD RX 9000 GPUs remain absent from the list
Nvidia RTX 50 GPUs make a small splash in the Steam Survey — AMD RX 9000 GPUs remain absent from the list
The latest Steam Hardware survey from April shows Nvidia’s RTX 50 series GPUs making their first appearance almost four months after launch. Conversely, despite their apparent retail popularity, AMD’s RX 9000 GPUs are nowhere to be found on the list. While the absence of RDNA 4 is confusing, it might all boil down to a lack of adequate supply at MSRP.
The April Steam Hardware survey reflects a return to normality after the previous survey was skewed by an unexplained surge of ******** users, knocking several statistics off the charts. Typical figures for operating systems, system specifications, and CPU/GPU vendor, among others, remained unchanged. Nvidia still reigns supreme in the GPU market with a 74.39% share, while Intel leads the CPU arena at 60.35%, closely followed by AMD.
Several new GPUs have gained traction among gamers, per the Steam Hardware survey, including Nvidia’s RTX 5080 (0.38%), RTX 5070 Ti (0.28%), and RTX 5070 (0.38%). The RTX 5090 being excluded from this list is self-explanatory, as that GPU is far out of the reach of the average user. After exhaustively searching the list, we found no GPU from AMD’s RX 9070 family. That’s quite telling since this has recently been one of AMD’s most successful GPU launches, coupled with Nvidia’s many shortfalls this generation.
While the Steam Hardware survey does not encompass every user, it still gives us a general idea about consumer mindshare and sentiment. Remember that Nvidia’s GPUs have been out longer than AMD’s, so we might see the RX 9070 XT spring up a month or two later. The obvious elephant in the room is price, as most GPUs are unavailable at MSRP (Except for some European regions). This also extends to AMD’s RDNA 4, with pre-builts carrying the best value proposition, explaining why gamers might be willing to spend a bit extra and go Team Green.
The survey shows more Steam users have an RTX 5080 than an RX 6600 XT. This shows how gamers are still inclined towards Nvidia despite the evident hardware defects, initial instability problems, fake MSRPs, and melting power connectors—you know the deal. AMD’s motive with RDNA 4 was to penetrate the mainstream market with powerful yet cost-effective GPU solutions, and the RX 9070 series seems to have achieved that goal, assuming you can buy one at MSRP.
The most common GPUs in the Steam Hardware survey are budget-oriented 50-series and 60-series, as that price point hits the sweet spot for most gamers. With prices falling slowly but steadily, AMD will need to go one step ahead with its RX 9060 XT GPUs, as that’s where the bulk of the market lies. Rumors still suggest that AMD will segment its 9060 XT family with 8GB and 16GB offerings, where the former will undoubtedly struggle in many memory-bound scenarios. In any case, all eyes are at Computex where AMD is expected to reveal these GPUs, with retail availability anticipated by early June.

Grand Theft Auto VI Delayed to 2026
Grand Theft Auto VI Delayed to 2026
Rockstar Games revealed today on their website that the highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto VI has been delayed to 2026. Whilst Rockstar didn’t explain exactly what the main reason for the delay was it most likely is for further refinement to the game. This easily explains why we haven’t heard anything from the developers in over a year since the first trailer dropped.
However, the announcement did come with some good news as we finally have a release date: May 26th, 2026. How long Rockstar sticks to this release date is anyone guess, but it gives fans a little ray of hope that one day they’ll have GTA 6 in their hands. Valve, take notes.

Grand Theft Auto VI delayed until May 2026 | Games
Rockstar Games has delayed the launch of Grand Theft Auto VI until 26 May, 2026. The game had been scheduled for release this autumn, but the lack of a definite date was beginning to raise concerns within the industry.
Announcing the decision via a brief post on its website, the company said: “We are very sorry that this is later than you expected. The interest and excitement surrounding a new Grand Theft Auto has been truly humbling for our entire team. We want to thank you for your support and your patience as we work to finish the game.
“With every game we have released, the goal has always been to try and exceed your expectations, and Grand Theft Auto VI is no exception. We hope you understand that we need this extra time to deliver at the level of quality you expect and deserve.”
It has been more than a decade since the release of Grand Theft Auto V, which has now sold 210m copies, making it the one of the most successful video games of all time alongside Minecraft and Tetris. GTA V was itself delayed several times before its eventual arrival in September 2013.
Little has been revealed about GTA VI since the release of a teaser video in December 2023. The open-world crime thriller is set to take place in the fictional Vice City, GTA’s version of Miami, and its home state of Leonida. The story is expected to follow veteran criminal Lucia as she embarks on an ambitious heist with her male partner.
No other information on the GTA VI delay has been given. However, Rockstar’s parent company Take-Two is due to report its financial results on 15 May, when questions from journalists and shareholders will no doubt dominate the session.

South African court convicts mother of trafficking her 6-year-old daughter
South African court convicts mother of trafficking her 6-year-old daughter
By Siyanda Mthethwa
JOHANNESBURG (Reuters) – A South African court found a mother and two accomplices guilty on Friday of kidnapping and trafficking her 6-year-old daughter, in a case that gained nationwide attention since the child went missing last year.
Joshlin Smith, then 6, disappeared from her home in the small town of Middelpos, Saldanha Bay, in Western Cape province on February 19, 2024 and a nationwide search began. She has not been found.
Joshlin’s mother, Kelly Smith, her boyfriend Jacquen Apollis and their friend Steveno Van Rhyn were accused of selling the child for a fee. A judge at the Western Cape High Court found all three guilty of kidnapping and trafficking on Friday.
“The conduct of … Ms Smith is not that of a concerned parent. And why not? In my mind the only inference is that you knew (what happened),” said Judge Nathan Erasmus on Friday, addressing Smith, who sat in the courtroom but did not speak.
In a case that shocked South Africa, one of the witnesses had said in court that Smith told her she had sold her daughter to a sangoma, or traditional healer, for 20,000 rand ($1,100) and that the girl was desired for her “eyes and skin”.
The judge did not say in his ruling who the girl was sold to or why.
The three convicted will be remanded in custody ahead of sentencing.

French President Emmanuel Macron has praised Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 for its success.
The game’s official Instagram page posted a bilingual message on Thursday thanking players and referring to the game’s French heritage.
“Quelle semaine de folie – merci à toutes et à tous”, it wrote (“What a crazy week – thank you to everyone”.)
“It’s been seven days since we launched Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. What a pleasure it’s been to see players from all over the world experiencing the game. We hope you’ve enjoyed spotting the nods to our home country throughout.
“Fiers de partager cette aventure avec vous.” (We are proud to share this adventure with you.)
Macron replied to the post from his own official Instagram account, praising the studio for hitting the 1 million sales milestone so quickly.
“One million copies sold and currently one of the highest-rated games in history, and yes, it’s French,” Macron wrote (via machine translation).
“Congratulations to Sandfall Interactive and all the creators of Expedition 33. You are a shining example of French audacity and creativity.”
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 was released on April 24, and has enjoyed widespread critical acclaim with a Metacritic score currently standing at 93 on Xbox Series X/S, 92 on PS5 and 90 on PC.
The game sold more than 500,000 copies in its first 24 hours, and two days later passed the 1 million units shipped milestone. This number doesn’t take into account the number of players on Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass.
It’s described by the studio as a “reactive turn-based RPG that will transport you to a beautiful, surrealist new world inspired by France’s La Belle Epoque – a ******* famous for its stunning and lavish contributions to the country’s world-renowned culture of art.
“As a member of the Expeditioners, who are embarking on an impossible quest to end the Paintress’ cycle of death, you’ll journey through a vast and beautiful fantasy world where you’ll battle deadly adversaries, befriend fabled creatures, and discover traces of those who came before.”

Real Reason Fans Are Begging GTA 6 to Be ‘Woke’ After Rockstar Confirms May 2026 Release Date
Real Reason Fans Are Begging GTA 6 to Be ‘Woke’ After Rockstar Confirms May 2026 Release Date
The wait for Grand Theft Auto 6 just got even longer, and the internet is losing its collective mind. After months of Rockstar and Take-Two promising a “Fall 2025” launch, the rug’s been yanked: GTA 6 is now officially set for May 26, 2026.
If you’d already started planning your next-gen console upgrade or were sketching out a new PC build, join the club—everyone’s salty, and rightfully so. But while the news itself is enough to send shockwaves through the industry as a whole, it’s the bizarre twist in the fan discourse that’s truly stealing the show this week.
If you thought the biggest drama would be over the delay, think again. The real spectacle is unfolding in the replies beneath Rockstar’s announcement, where the tired old “woke” debate has mutated into something almost unrecognizable.
Why the “woke” debate around GTA 6 just got flipped on its head
Let’s be real: every time Rockstar so much as sneezes, someone in the replies is already chanting “please don’t be woke.”
This time, @EricYeah612 made sure to get in early with the now-iconic plea. But here’s where things get spicy—fans are sick of the word itself, not just the culture war it represents. The community’s patience for “woke” panic has officially run out, and the replies are a masterclass in trolling the trolls.
@amexo__txr fired back with, “I hope it’s gonna be woke so you can cry all the time,” perfectly capturing the new mood. Instead of hand-wringing over Rockstar’s creative direction, fans are practically daring the studio to lean in and make GTA 6 as “woke” as possible—just to watch the outrage brigade lose it.
@nearlyfleek chimed in with a deadpan, “It’s gonna be very awake,” because if you can’t beat the discourse, you might as well meme it into oblivion (remastered).
The best part? Even the self-awareness is on point. @pikisgaming quipped, “Funny because knowing GTA ‘please don’t be woke’ will definitely be a line in the game.”
And honestly, would anyone put it past Rockstar to turn this whole circus into an in-game punchline? If there’s one thing the series has always excelled at, it’s skewering every side of every debate—no sacred cows, no safe spaces, just pure, equal-opportunity satire.
Rockstar’s delay, fan skepticism, and why everyone’s in on the joke

Of course, none of this would be half as funny if the delay itself didn’t sting so much. For months, both Rockstar and Take-Two were adamant about hitting that “Fall 2025” window. Investors were reassured, competitors cleared out their release schedules, and fans clung to hope.
But with no second trailer and barely a screenshot to show for it, skepticism was always simmering beneath the surface. Now, with the date set for May 26, 2026, the only thing more certain than the wait is the collective eye-roll from the community.
Rockstar’s statement is as polished as ever:
We are very sorry that this is later than you expected. The interest and excitement surrounding a new Grand Theft Auto has been truly humbling for our entire team… we need this extra time to deliver at the level of quality you expect and deserve.
It’s a familiar tune—one that’s played before every major Rockstar release. But this time, the fanbase isn’t just disappointed; they’re in on the joke. The “woke” panic has become a parody of itself, and the idea of GTA 6 being “woke” is now less a fear and more a running gag.
So, as the world waits (again) for Jason and Lucia to hit Vice City, the only thing more unpredictable than the game’s story is the fan response. Will Rockstar actually poke fun at the “woke” debate in-game? Only time will tell. Until then, the internet’s ready for whatever chaos comes next.
What’s your take—should Rockstar go all-in on the satire, or is the “woke” debate just noise at this point? Drop your thoughts below and let the games begin.
