Monkey addicted to marshmallows saved from exotic **** trade Monkey addicted to marshmallows saved from exotic **** trade Scottish SPCA Steve, a four-year-old marmoset monkey, was addicted to marshmallows after being fed them constantly Charities have warned of a growing trade in wild animals across Scotland after a monkey was discovered in a bird cage in East Lothian with a marshmallow addiction. They are calling on the Scottish government to introduce a permitted list of animals that can be legally kept as pets. OneKind, the Scottish SPCA and Born Free say there are currently very few restrictions, which has led to many creatures suffering in unsuitable conditions. The young marmoset monkey – called Steve – was taken in by the Scottish SPCA after neighbours spotted him in a living room window in March. The charity said the four-year-old monkey was underweight and “stressed out” from constant handling. He had developed an addiction to sugary marshmallows after being repeatedly fed them as a treat. After six weeks in the charity’s care, Steve made a full recovery and was moved to a permanent home in a monkey sanctuary in England. ‘Growing trend’ Gilly Mendes Ferreira, the Scottish SPCA’s strategic communications director, said people were unaware of the scale of wild animal keeping in Scotland. “It’s a growing and worrying trend,” she said. “Animals like Steve being bought and sold as novelty pets, often on impulse, with little understanding of the complex care they require.” She added: “Marmosets are highly intelligent, social primates that need space, stimulation, and the companionship of their own kind. “No domestic setting – no matter how well-meaning – can truly meet those needs. “ The Scottish government said it was committed to the highest standards of animal ******** and understood public health and conservation concerns around the keeping of exotic pets. Research by the animal charities for their new Don’t **** Me campaign suggested requests from children may persuade people to acquire novelty pets. Getty Images Popular computer games such as Minecraft were cited by researchers as influencing people to buy exotic pets External influences like social media, films and games such as Pokémon and Minecraft have also been linked to the trade of wild animals. Researchers from the charities found that over a 16-week *******, creatures from more than 300 species were advertised for ***** in Scotland. They said the trade was an international business with some animals transported by couriers in inappropriate containers – sometimes without any indication a live animal is inside. A Scottish government spokesperson said: “We welcome the work of groups in dealing with the ******** problems caused by irresponsible owners and the campaign for raising awareness of this important issue. “The Scottish Animal ******** Commission has explored the issues surrounding the keeping of exotic pets and we will continue to consider the steps that could be taken in this area.” Source link #Monkey #addicted #marshmallows #saved #exotic #**** #trade Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content] For verified travel tips and real support, visit: [Hidden Content]

Montech Century II Gold 1050W ATX 3.1 power supply review Montech Century II Gold 1050W ATX 3.1 power supply review Why you can trust Tom’s Hardware Our expert reviewers spend hours testing and comparing products and services so you can choose the best for you. Find out more about how we test. Founded in 2016, Montech is a relatively new player in the PC components market, striving to establish itself with a portfolio that includes cases, coolers, power supplies, and peripherals. The company aims to deliver products offering competitive performance at accessible price points, making premium features available to budget-conscious users. The Montech Century II Gold 1050W is a modern ATX 3.1 power supply unit that targets mainstream PC builders seeking solid performance without extravagant pricing. We examine the Century II Gold to determine whether it’s worth taking a spot amongst the best power supplies on our list. Developed in collaboration with XWY (Shenzhen Xin Weiye Technology Co.), a newer OEM founded by former HKC employees, the Century II combines practical design elements with modern power delivery technologies, a modular interface, and compliance with the latest ATX specifications. Upon opening, the PSU is contained within a nylon pouch, with foam inserts protecting it during shipping. (Image credit: Tom’s Hardware) The bundle includes the necessary mounting screws, an AC power cable, a few cable ties, and several cable straps – a purely practical accessory set. (Image credit: Tom’s Hardware) The Century II’s cables feature ****** connectors with ribbon-like, unsleeved wires. The unit includes one 12V-2×6 connector and six 6+2 pin PCIe connectors, though it is worth noting that the six PCIe connectors share three cables in pairs. While the total number of connectors is adequate for a 1050W unit, we would have preferred to see two 12V-2×6 connectors for a power supply with this output capacity. Montech made some effort to make the unit visually appealing without going overboard. (Image credit: Tom’s Hardware) It features a two-tone color scheme, with half ****** and half silver, finished in matte paint. The sides contain decorative embossments and etchings. The fan finger guard is integrated into the chassis with a triangle-centered pattern that gives the unit a unique appearance, though we have concerns about its aerodynamics potentially increasing noise when the fan spins at high speeds. Image 1 of 2 (Image credit: Tom’s Hardware) (Image credit: Tom’s Hardware) The front features the standard AC cable receptacle and power switch, plus a button to toggle the hybrid fan mode. The top houses a sticker displaying electrical specifications and certifications, while the rear contains the modular cable connectors with a simple surrounding legend. Image 1 of 2 (Image credit: Tom’s Hardware) (Image credit: Tom’s Hardware) Internal Design The Century II employs a Hong Hua HA13525H12F-Z 135mm fan – a surprising find in a 140mm-long PSU. This fan uses a fluid dynamic bearing (FDB) engine, which typically offers quieter operation than ball-bearing fans while maintaining good reliability, though FDB bearings can degrade quickly at high temperatures. Fortunately, the fan is not expected to work overtime since the PSU features a zero-RPM mode. The fan’s top speed of about 2300 RPM is very high for its size. (Image credit: Tom’s Hardware) The OEM behind the Century II is XWY (Shenzhen Xin Weiye Technology Co.), a brand-new company founded by former HKC employees. This marks our first encounter with this OEM, though close inspection reveals that the platform is very similar to recent XPG and ThermalTake products previously manufactured by HKC. Image 1 of 2 (Image credit: Tom’s Hardware) (Image credit: Tom’s Hardware) The input filtering stage consists of two Y capacitors, two X capacitors, and two filtering inductors, which is a baseline configuration for a 1050W unit. Two rectifying bridges share a heatsink with the Active Power Factor Correction (APFC) components. The APFC stage uses two WAYON WMJ36N65F2 MOSFETs and one diode on the same heatsink as the rectifiers. A large plain inductor and two Nippon Chemi-**** capacitors (470 μF and 570 μF) complete the APFC circuitry. Image 1 of 2 (Image credit: Tom’s Hardware) (Image credit: Tom’s Hardware) The primary inversion stage employs another two WAYON WMJ36N65F2 MOSFETs on the same heatsink, using a typical half-bridge LLC topology. On the secondary side, six Infineon ISC012N04LM6 MOSFETs at the underside of the PSU generate the primary 12V line, while DC-to-DC circuits on a large vertical daughterboard generate the 3.3V and 5V lines. Image 1 of 2 (Image credit: Tom’s Hardware) (Image credit: Tom’s Hardware) The secondary side capacitors are a mix of Nippon Chemi-****, Rubycon, and Toshin Kogyo products. While Toshin Kogyo is not commonly found in PC PSUs, it is a reputable Japanese manufacturer. (Image credit: Tom’s Hardware) Cold Test Results Cold Test Results (25°C Ambient) For the testing of PSUs, we are using high precision electronic loads with a maximum power draw of 2700 Watts, a Rigol DS5042M 40 MHz oscilloscope, an Extech 380803 power analyzer, two high precision UNI-T UT-325 digital thermometers, an Extech HD600 SPL meter, a self-designed hotbox and various other bits and parts. Image 1 of 5 (Image credit: Tom’s Hardware) (Image credit: Tom’s Hardware) (Image credit: Tom’s Hardware) (Image credit: Tom’s Hardware) (Image credit: Tom’s Hardware) Under standard conditions, the Century II Gold achieved 90.3% average efficiency at 115 VAC and 91.1% at 230 VAC across the 10% to 100% load range. The unit meets and greatly exceeds the 80Plus Gold certification requirements at low-to-medium loads, but misses the Platinum certification because its efficiency drops significantly at maximum load. This explains why Cybenetics awards it a Platinum certification while CLEAResult gives it Gold, Cybenetics largely bases their rating on average efficiency rather than peak load performance. We should note that the Cybenetics certification is published by Montech’s marketing and is printed on the box of the unit itself but Cybenetics have not published their certification results at the time of this review. The efficiency curve shows optimal performance between 40% and 50% load, where it reaches its peak values. At very low loads, the unit demonstrates passable but not exceptional efficiency. The fan remains inactive until the load approaches 400 watts, contributing to the unit’s silent operation during typical desktop usage. Beyond this threshold, fan speed increases linearly with load while maintaining relatively low noise levels throughout most of the operating range. The unit’s thermal performance is good under standard conditions, with internal components remaining well within safe temperature limits even at higher loads, indicating effective thermal design despite the compact 140mm length. Hot Test Results Hot Test Results (~45°C Ambient) In elevated ambient temperatures, the Century II’s average efficiency decreased to 89.1% at 115 VAC and 89.8% at 230 VAC. The efficiency decline is measurable but not critical, with slightly more pronounced degradation at heavy loads, suggesting minor thermal stress. Image 1 of 5 (Image credit: Tom’s Hardware) (Image credit: Tom’s Hardware) (Image credit: Tom’s Hardware) (Image credit: Tom’s Hardware) (Image credit: Tom’s Hardware) The fan activates much sooner in hot conditions, engaging at just below 200 watts. It maintains a low speed up to 600 watts, after which it increases significantly, raising noise levels potentially due to both fan speed and aerodynamic turbulence from the fan grill design. The fan approaches maximum speed only at full load under high temperature conditions. PSU Quality and Bottom Line Power Supply Quality The Montech Century II Gold demonstrated very good electrical performance overall. Ripple measurements revealed maximum deviations of 30 mV on the 12V rail, 16 mV on the 5V rail, and 18 mV on the 3.3V rail—all well below the ATX specification limits. The voltage ripple filtering is fantastic across all voltage lines. Voltage regulation is slightly above 1% for all rails (12V: 1.1%, 5V: 1.4%, 3.3V: 1.2%), which while not exceptional, is very good for a unit in this class. During our thorough assessment, we evaluate the essential protection features of every power supply unit we review, including Over Current Protection (OCP), Over Voltage Protection (OVP), Over Power Protection (OPP), and Short Circuit Protection (SCP). The protection features function properly, with OCP limits set at 140% for the 3.3V rail, 146% for the 5V rail, and 126% for the 12V rail. OPP triggered at 128% under hot conditions. While these protection triggers seem high, they are not excessively so, and the higher values for the 3.3V and 5V lines likely result from the manufacturer underrating the DC-to-DC circuitry, which benefits long-term reliability. With its balanced aesthetic featuring a two-tone color scheme (half ******, half silver) and modest decorative elements, the unit offers a distinctive appearance without sacrificing functionality. At exactly 140mm in length, it adheres perfectly to ATX specifications, ensuring compatibility with virtually any modern case. It features a fully modular design with practical cabling, though the decision to share three cables for six PCIe connectors and include only one 12V-2×6 connector is somewhat limiting for a 1050W unit that might otherwise power multiple high-end components. (Image credit: Tom’s Hardware) Electrically, the Century II Gold performs very well for its class. Voltage regulation hovers slightly above 1% for all rails and ripple suppression is excellent, with values well below industry limits. Protection circuits function properly, with OCP limits set at 140% for the 3.3V rail, 146% for the 5V rail, and 126% for the 12V rail, while OPP triggers at 128% under hot conditions. These figures demonstrate solid power delivery stability suitable for high-performance gaming systems and workstations with demanding components. The PSU’s protection circuits also function properly, with OCP trigger points set a bit high but not excessively so, providing adequate protection while allowing for power headroom during transient loads. The seemingly high triggers for the 3.3V and 5V rails likely reflect conservative ratings for the DC-to-DC circuitry, potentially benefiting long-term reliability. (Image credit: Tom’s Hardware) The Century II maintains good internal temperatures under standard conditions, though performance declines somewhat under heavy load in high ambient temperatures. The 135mm FDB fan is an impressive inclusion in such a compact unit, and the zero-RPM mode keeps the unit silent up to moderate loads (approximately 400W in standard conditions, 200W in elevated temperatures). However, when heavily loaded in hot environments, the fan speed increases substantially, approaching its high maximum of 2300 RPM, and the triangle-centered pattern fan grid may contribute to increased noise through aerodynamic turbulence. Component selection shows thoughtful engineering, with great quality parts and craftsmanship, enhancing reliability. (Image credit: Tom’s Hardware) In conclusion, while the OEM behind this unit (XWY) is new to the market, their engineering team’s heritage from HKC is evident in the solid platform design. The Montech Century II Gold 1050W represents an impressive value proposition, offering balanced all-around performance without critical weaknesses. Currently retailing for just $110 and backed by a 10-year warranty, it represents exceptional value for an ATX 3.1 compliant PSU with its combination of good electrical performance, adequate thermal management, and quality component selection. For builders seeking reliable power for high-performance systems without breaking the bank, the Century II Gold 1050W makes a compelling case as the practical choice in the mainstream enthusiast power supply market. 6 things that kids worry about the most 6 things that kids worry about the most Being a parent has become an increasingly harder job, especially as anxiety levels keep rising, even among the youngest kids. As child and family therapists, over the years, we’ve worked with thousands of parents and children struggling with anxiety and stress. We get emails and calls from parents looking for guidance nearly every day. When a child experiences worry that won’t go away, parents feel overwhelmed and lost. They desperately want to make it better but don’t know how. The first step is to understand what those worries are. Here are the top six things kids worry about the most that many parents don’t even realize: 1. Social dynamics As kids grow up and begin figuring out who they are, they start to care about what their friends think. They want to fit in and feel liked. When children are different from their peers, whether due to their appearance, interests, cultural background, race or any other aspect of their identity, they may worry or become the target of bullying or teasing. 2. Social media Adding social media to the mix amplifies kids’ worries about social dynamics and negatively impacts their self-worth. Children will compare their lives to highlight reels of friends and complete strangers. When kids use social media without any supervision, it ramps up their anxiety. They see other people’s lives online and might start feeling bad about their own, which makes them worry a lot more. 3. Big life changes or disruptions Moving to a new house or a new school can be both exciting and scary for kids. Even if the change is supposed to be a good thing, they might feel like they’re losing something before they can see the benefits. For example, before they can enjoy having a new sibling, they might feel sad about no longer being the only child. And some changes are just plain tough, with little upside — like a parent moving out or a friend changing schools. 4. A packed schedule In families where academics and extracurriculars take priority from morning to night, there’s little room for relaxation. And when children don’t have unstructured time to recharge, they are at risk of developing chronic stress. DON’T MISS: How to successfully change careers and be happier at work Be sure to give your kids plenty of free playtime. It’s how they learn, process emotions and make sense of what’s happening around them. 5. Inconsistency Things don’t need to be the same all the time, but last-minute changes in their daily schedule will make kids nervous. Having a caregiver who is often late or says they will be there and then doesn’t show up may cause anxiety in a child, too. In the same way, when a child receives conflicting signals from each of their grown-ups, or when rules and expectations change from day to day, children experience a sense of discomfort. 6. Trauma Trauma can leave a child feeling devastated, scared or hurt, and it’s tough for them to calm down because it triggers their body’s stress response. This makes them super alert and unable to relax, constantly worried about their safety. Even small incidents can shake a child’s sense of safety. A dog bite, a car accident or seeing someone get hurt can deeply affect them. Later, they might see something that reminds them of the event and feel scared all over again. How to help your kid with their worries There are many practical coping strategies for your child to manage intense emotions. The key is to teach ahead by introducing these skills during calm moments — well before stressful situations arise. 1. Naming emotions Teach your kids to manage emotions by naming what they feel. Explain that worry likes to hide in the dark and fester, and that sharing it out loud with you or a trusted friend or sibling will help them feel better. It even works when they say it in their heads: “I am so anxious about what my teacher thinks of me.” 2. Take a breath Get into the habit of taking three deep breaths with your child before bed. Have them put a hand on their tummy and feel the breath fill it up “like a belly balloon.” Trace their hand with each breath: up a finger, breathe in, and down a finger, breathe out, and repeat. 3. Teach affirming phrases Lend your pearls of wisdom for tough moments. Encourage your child to say it to themselves: “Things are easier the second time around,” or “I can do it,” during moments of worry or before a big event. Teach them to recite: “It only feels this way for now, but I know even the worst feelings will pass,” or “Just because I’m imagining something bad, it doesn’t mean it’s going to happen.” 4. Schedule a ‘worry window’ If your kid has free-floating anxiety or feels overpowered by emotions that pop up only to derail them, try scheduling a 15-minute window later in the day for them to worry. You can say, “I know you’re feeling worried. I have an idea that might help. When you get home, I’ll set a timer and you can think all about it, scream into your pillow, or talk it out with me until the timer goes off.” Ashley Graber and Maria Evans are globally recognized parenting coaches, and child and family psychotherapists. NASA’s TRACERS Mission Rescheduled for 2025 to Explore Solar Wind and Earth’s Magnetic Field NASA’s TRACERS Mission Rescheduled for 2025 to Explore Solar Wind and Earth’s Magnetic Field NASA has refocused its Tandem Reconnection and Cusp Electrodynamics Reconnaissance Satellites (TRACERS) launch date to no earlier than 2025 to provide more time for the mission crew to prepare. This mission is about a pair of satellite studying about how the solar wind, interacts with and enters Earth’s magnetosphere, the region around Earth dominated by our planet’s magnetic field. Understanding and eventually forecasting how energy from our Sun enters our planet and may affect assets depending on space and the earth depends on research into this interaction. Mission Objectives According to NASA, the TRACERS spacecraft will launch on a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket from Space Launch Complex 4 East at Vandenberg Space Force Base in California. The twin spacecraft will travel around 341 miles above the planet through polar cusps, a short area of the earth’s magnetic field where solar wind is concentrated and funneled into our atmosphere. In order to investigate the location and frequency of a phenomena known as magnetic reconnection near the outer borders of Earth’s magnetic field, the TRACERS mission will fly across the northern polar cusp many times each day. The explosive energy transfer where two magnetic fields meet, particularly in the magnetopause region where the solar wind meets Earth’s magnetosphere is termed as magnetic reconnection . This event can cause solar wind particles to enter the atmosphere at high speeds, igniting the northern and southern lights but also creating hazardous conditions for astronauts and satellites, damaging ground infrastructure, communication signals, and aviation. Mission oversight David Miles is leading this TRACERS mission at the University of Iowa and it is managed by the Southwest Research Institute in San Antonio. The Heliophysics Division at NASA Headquarters in Washington oversees the project through the Heliophysics Explorers Program Office at the agency’s Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland. As part of the agency’s VADR (Venture-class Acquisition of Dedicated and Rideshare) contract, the launch service is being provided by NASA’s Launch Services Program, which is headquartered at the agency’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida, in collaboration with NASA’s Science Mission Directorate. Lorraine Kelly reassures fans ahead of keyhole surgery Lorraine Kelly reassures fans ahead of keyhole surgery TV presenter Lorraine Kelly has revealed that she needs to undergo surgery to remove her ovaries and fallopian tubes. The 65-year-old shared a video on social media from her hospital bed on Saturday, saying she had not been “feeling all that well for a little while”. The ITV host said that the “wee procedure” was “purely preventative” and had been recommended after some scans and tests. Kelly added that she was “going to be totally fine” and praised hospital staff, saying she felt “very lucky to be treated so well” in the video’s caption. Kelly also thanked gynaecologist Dr Ahmed Raafat and hospital staff. The Scottish presenter was sent well-wishes by fellow ITV colleagues Katie Piper, Charlotte Hawkins and Susanna Reid on Instagram, who wished her “a speedy recovery”. The procedure, known as an laparoscopic bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy, takes one to two hours and requires several more hours of recovery in hospital. According to the NHS, you must stay off work for two to four weeks after having the procedure, which could mean Kelly could take a short break from presenting her show, Lorraine. Kelly has been a presenter and journalist for more than 37 years, starting her career on Good Morning Britain in 1988. She has been presenting her eponymous morning news programme Lorraine since 2010. KATINA CURTIS: Graft and luck bring Labor Party back from brink KATINA CURTIS: Graft and luck bring Labor Party back from brink Labor made its way back from the doldrums of last year to convince Australians it should retain government for another term through a combination of good planning and a hefty dollop of good luck. Anthony Albanese has been rehearsing his campaign for six months, using his regular travel around the country to find what worked and what was possible. Take his swing through North Queensland, Darwin, Kununurra, Karratha and Perth in January. He replicated this in the third week of his campaign, minus the Kimberley stop, and wrangling with Rio Tinto to get his preferred photo op atop a shiploader in Dampier Port instead of the suggested train. Importantly, he also got his head back in the game after being stuck in a funk for too long after the referendum loss. Feel like giving the politicians a rating this Federal election? Our Pollie Rater lets you do just that. Rate the politicians Treasurer Jim Chalmers gave the credit to his boss as early counting began, saying that “at the end of last year we were in all kinds of trouble” but he hadn’t seen a Prime Minister campaign as well as Albanese had over the past four months. But circumstances have also handed Albanese multiple chances to remind Australians he offers a steady hand in uncertain times. Cyclone Alfred forced him to delay the election date and bought Labor more time. It used is wisely and offered days of press opportunities in emergency-management leadership mode. The same happened with the floods in Queensland during the campaign *******. And Albanese was quicker off the mark to respond to Donald Trump’s tariffs and Pope Francis’s death, again gifting him the opportunity to demonstrate his leadership while Peter Dutton appeared to always be playing catch-up. The Trump effect has also had a serious impact on voters and turned what had seemed a positive for the Coalition into a negative — practically overnight. By Saturday afternoon, Albanese was relaxed, knowing he had done everything he could to maximise Labor’s chances. As the party’s leader, he’s had to forgo his usual election ritual of visiting every booth in his seat on polling day to thank volunteers and branch members. Instead, he headed to two final key seats — Menzies in Melbourne and Reid, which neighbours his own in Sydney — bringing his total for the campaign proper to 52 electorates visited. As he told interviewers at the MCG just after dawn on Saturday, he left nothing on the field — and it paid off. Omega Block Pattern A Flood Threat In Soaked Plains, Drought-Stricken Northeast Omega Block Pattern A Flood Threat In Soaked Plains, Drought-Stricken Northeast An omega block pattern will bring threats of flooding rain to the Plains and Northeast, and some weird temperature maps across the country during the first full week of May. What Is An Omega Block? If you trace the path of the jet stream across the U.S. beginning Sunday from the West to the East, you will trace out the Greek letter omega (Ω). This configuration blocks the typical west-to-east flow of the jet stream, much like a large rock in a small stream forces the flow of water around it. That’s why meteorologists call it a blocking pattern. Omega block pattern How Does It Influence The Weather? Since it’s a blocking pattern, it means weather systems will slow down for a few days. To the west and east of the omega block, we usually see slow-moving areas of low pressure, leading to several days of unsettled weather near and just to the east of them. In roughly the northern half of the omega block, however, the weather is usually dry and sunny with warmer-than-average temperatures. What Impacts Will We See? Two Heavy Rain Threats Several days of locally heavy rain are likely Sunday through at least Wednesday in the Southern Plains, High Plains and lower Mississippi Valley. While parts of the Plains in varying degrees of drought will welcome this rainfall, it will likely worsen both existing river flooding and quickly trigger flash flooding in parts of Oklahoma and northern Texas that just experienced a record wet April. In the East, multiple days of locally heavy rain are also expected in parts of the Northeast and mid-Atlantic, including the I-95 urban corridor from Washington D.C. to southern New England. While parts of the East are in drought, any persistent bands of heavier rain could also trigger flash flooding, particularly in hilly or urban areas. Some strong to severe storms are also possible just inland of the I-95 corridor. (MORE MAPS: Daily U.S. Forecast Precipitation) Rainfall Outlook Upside-Down Temperatures For most of the Northwest to the Northern Plains and upper Midwest, you can expect warm weather for several days, from the weekend into at least the first half of the week ahead. This means highs in the 70s or 80s from Montana to Minnesota. Those areas may be warmer than parts of the Desert Southwest and South. Las Vegas may struggle to reach 70 degrees for a couple of days early in the week. And with the exception of Florida and South Texas, the rest of the South probably won’t warm beyond the 70s or low 80s. Federal election 2025: Joe Spagnol: Peter Dutton’s rehabilitation tour of WA was tarnished by the past Federal election 2025: Joe Spagnol: Peter Dutton’s rehabilitation tour of WA was tarnished by the past Peter Dutton’s rehabilitation tours of WA didn’t work. West Ozzies didn’t much like Dutton at the start of this election because he was an integral part of that much-disliked Scott Morrison government and Cabinet. And that didn’t change. As Andre Agassi so beautifully put it: Image is everything – even in politics. Dutton tried to soften his image and win the WA love by visiting the west as much as he could. But that didn’t work. Feel like giving the politicians a rating this Federal election? Our Pollie Rater lets you do just that. Rate the politicians It wasn’t so much that WA loved Albo. It was a case, they liked him more than Dutton. And Labor knew that. Labor’s election strategy in WA was pretty clear. Labor’s strategy was about pitting incumbents not against Liberal candidates – but against Dutton. It was Labor MPs versus Dutton here in the wild, wild west. Dutton also seemed to be a lone voice here in WA. Apart from Michaelia Cash, it would appear the Liberals did not want the likes of Andrew Hastie to pop up their heads in WA this election. Dutton’s plan to win over WA appeared to be more about the Liberal leader blaming Albanese about the woes besieging Australia – and the west – rather than winning over voters with his own policies. For mine, once he announced a nuclear power plant for Collie – as part of a national plan for seven nuclear reactors – he should have stuck with that and made it a central part of his WA-sell. No matter that nuclear power is a controversial topic. I believe Dutton barely mentioning his nuclear plan for WA last year, and then staying away from Collie – apart from one quick visit last year – made him look second rate and not believable. He looked like a leader with fart-bubble policies. Source link #Federal #election #Joe #Spagnol #Peter #Duttons #rehabilitation #tour #tarnished Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content]

Almost 35% PC Gamers Still Surviving on 8 GB Graphics Card Shows How Unreal Engine 5 Destroyed Budget Gaming With Exorbitant System Requirements Almost 35% PC Gamers Still Surviving on 8 GB Graphics Card Shows How Unreal Engine 5 Destroyed Budget Gaming With Exorbitant System Requirements PC gaming has grown leaps and bounds in the past couple of years, especially with regard to hardware capabilities. Gone are the days of janky 3D animations; we now have proper motion capture, cinematic storytelling, and breathtaking visuals that are often shockingly close to real life. However, next-gen games require next-gen hardware, and in particular, copious amounts of video memory. Current-gen games are notorious for demanding absurd amounts of VRAM, which leaves multiple (still perfectly capable) GPUs in the dust. Nearly 35% of PC gamers still use an 8 GB graphics card As per a recent Steam hardware survey (April 2025), nearly 35% of PC gamers are still using a graphics card with 8 GB of VRAM. That is quite a significant number, even if it has seen a rather minuscule decline from the previous month. The user base of 16 GB VRAM GPUs is steadily increasing | Image Credits: Nvidia 8 GB VRAM GPUs have lost their market share by around 1.27% from last month. On the other hand, there has been a steady increase in the adoption of cards with 12 GB of VRAM or higher in the past few months alone. In particular, 16 GB VRAM is appearing to be the next sweet spot, showing a healthy 0.81% increase from March 2025. Additionally, it would appear that 12 GB cards are the next most popular alternative, holding exactly 18.58% share of the Steam user base. This, however, does not discount the fact that there still is an overwhelmingly large number of users who possess cards with 8 gigabytes (or lower) of VRAM. 35% is not a small number, and largely consists of users who have yet to upgrade their GPUs from perfectly capable last-gen versions, or those who were unfortunate enough to buy a newer model with 8 GB VRAM in 2025 (which is still a thing unfortunately!). 8 GB GPUs are still very popular | Image Credits: AMD Much of this decline can be attributed to the fact that modern game engines (in particular, Unreal Engine 5) have often absurd PC system requirements, forcing players to use stronger cards with unnecessary features such as ray-tracing, and the like. Players are as such, forced to purchase newer GPUs to play these games – even if it has been proven time and time again, that last-gen cards can most certainly handle AAA gaming with some workarounds in place. Modern video game development is an unoptimized mess It is no secret that video game system requirements have been scaling up at absurd rates for the past few years. As games get more graphically demanding, the need for more expensive, next-gen hardware increases. It can also be argued that these visual ‘upgrades’ do feel a bit pointless – after all, the average gamer is very unlikely to notice these additions when locked into a heated battle. Additionally, games also appear to run worse at launch on PCs, thanks to terrible ports. Most players are better off waiting for the game to get patched a few months down the line – in addition to being discounted at the same time. To make up for this terrible native performance, games employ methods such as upscaling (DLSS/FSR) and frame generation, which are more akin to a band-aid fix. It should be emphasized here that DLSS and frame generation should not be used as a crutch for boosting performance, and developers should optimize their game engines first. PM Albanese wins in landslide PM Albanese wins in landslide Labor’s Anthony Albanese has defied the so-called “incumbency curse” to be re-elected Australia’s prime minister in a landslide. Official vote counting won’t conclude for days, but Albanese’s centre-left government is set to dramatically increase its majority after the Liberal-National coalition suffered a thumping defeat nationwide. “Today, the *********** people have voted for *********** values: for fairness, aspiration and opportunity for all; for the strength to show courage in adversity and kindness to those in need,” Albanese said. Coalition leader Peter Dutton – who lost his own seat of 24 years – said he accepted “full responsibility” for his party’s loss and apologised to his MPs. Labor has seen swings towards them in almost every area across the country – a rare feat for a second-term government in Australia – and Albanese becomes the first prime minister to win back-to-back elections in over 20 years. The party’s success has also tempered a trend of voters abandoning the two major parties, which was the big story of the last election in 2022. Labor is on track to finish with 86 seats, the Coalition with 39, and the Greens Party with one or two, according to projections by the *********** Broadcasting Corporation (ABC). Other minor parties and independent are ahead in 10 seats. It’s a remarkable turnaround from the start of the year, when polling put Albanese’s popularity at record lows after three years of global economic pain, tense national debate, and growing government dissatisfaction. Warren Buffett’s Favorite ‘Single Best Measure’ For Equities Flashes Buying Signal As US Stocks Rebound Warren Buffett’s Favorite ‘Single Best Measure’ For Equities Flashes Buying Signal As US Stocks Rebound A valuation metric, which Berkshire Hathaway chair Warren Buffett once called the “single best measure of where valuations stand,” is now signaling that U.S. equities could be trading at relatively attractive levels. What Happened: Known as the “Buffett Indicator,” the ratio compares the total value of publicly traded U.S. companies, tracked by the Wilshire 5000 Index, to the country’s gross domestic product. The measure currently sits at around 180%, reported Bloomberg, roughly the same level seen after last year’s rapid unwinding of the Japanese yen carry trade, which triggered a sharp selloff. That downturn ultimately set the stage for a strong S&P 500 rally in late 2024. The indicator soared to record highs last year, echoing past market bubbles, including the dot-com era in 2000. Its recent dip comes as the S&P 500 has rebounded 12% from April lows, though it remains down nearly 9% from February’s record. Also Read: Berkshire Hathaway Q4 Profits Soar 71%, Buffett Says Firm Pays More Taxes Than ‘Tech Titans’ With Market Value in ‘Trillions’ “This is a crucial indicator because it helps traders know when to deploy capital and buy stocks,” said Adam Sarhan, CEO of 50 Park Investments. “There are reasons to still be concerned about the global trade war, but if [Donald] Trump isn’t playing hardball with tariffs, people are going to buy, buy, buy with valuations much more reasonably priced now.” Why It’s Important: In a Fortune article from 2001, Buffett characterized this level as “playing with fire,” alluding to the dotcom bubble. “Nearly two years ago the ratio rose to an unprecedented level,” Buffett wrote. “That should have been a very strong warning signal.” Some critics of the Buffett Indicator argue that it overlooks certain important factors like elevated interest rates. Others caution that valuation metrics alone are unreliable for market timing, as assets can remain overvalued or undervalued for extended periods before adjusting, the report said. Many traders are closely watching Berkshire Hathaway’s annual meeting on Saturday for any hints that Buffett has begun tapping into the firm’s record $321 billion cash reserve to scoop up discounted stocks, the report added. Wall Street continued its rally this week, completely recovering the losses triggered by the Trump administration’s April 2 tariff announcement. Mega-cap tech giants — including Microsoft Corp. (NYSE:MSFT), Meta Platforms Inc. (NASDAQ:META), Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL), and Amazon.com Inc. (NASDAQ:AMZN) — all beat Wall Street estimates, with Microsoft posting its strongest weekly performance in years. Oblivion Remaster’s New Record Proves Todd Howards Needs The Elder Scrolls 6 on Game Pass Oblivion Remaster’s New Record Proves Todd Howards Needs The Elder Scrolls 6 on Game Pass Xbox is securing victories like no other, especially setting a player count record for both Oblivion Remaster and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33. This success should make Todd Howard realise that The Elder Scrolls 6 should get added to Xbox Game Pass. Bethesda was doing fine before the Microsoft acquisition. But truth be told, it is doing better than before under the new management. Many players opt to play Bethesda-published games through the Game Pass. This doesn’t only include The Elder Scrolls franchise, but Fallout as well. Not forgetting to mention, Hi-Fi Rush, Deathloop, and more games published through Bethesda Softworks, and all of these titles have done well via the Xbox Game Pass. Just like one plus one makes two, Bethesda should rely on Microsoft to release its anticipated RPG on Game Pass. Oblivion Remaster breaks record for total players on Xbox Game Pass Hold your horses before you say that nostalgia played a huge factor in Oblivion Remaster’s success. However, this isn’t the only reason, as the revival of the old title was possible for passionate developers who took the task seriously. The total amount of effort that went into it is enough to call it a remake. Even though the original title was released almost 19 years ago, the craze for it remains the same. Rockstar has the same opportunity with their older GTA titles, but they botched it in the greatest way possible. So no, nostalgia isn’t the only thing that’s required for a remaster’s success. Posts from the xboxgamepass community on Reddit The hard work was surely admired by the fans, as it managed to have 3.2 million players on Game Pass. The data arrives from Alinea Analytics, which released a data sheet on Clair Obscur and The Elder Scrolls 4 remaster. Not only that, PlayStation fans dropped their ego to get their hands on Oblivion Remaster. Data suggests that the game sold 590k copies on PlayStation, while Clair Obscur sold 344k copies in Team Blue’s territory. This is not surprising to see at all, as many are considering COE 33 to receive GOTY in 2025. The Elder Scrolls franchise has considerably more people interested across all platforms, enough to rival GTA 6’s popularity. With that later game being delayed to 2026, it would be a power move for Bethesda to release The Elder Scrolls 6 on Xbox Game Pass to get the upper hand. With game prices set to go up, it’s best to take the Game Pass route The only thing that can save Bethesda’s TES 6. | Image Credit: Bethesda Following the game price hikes, Game Pass would be the only way, The Elder Scrolls 6 will have success. The gaming community is already skeptical about games being priced at $80, and that will be the reality for all. Just as Xbox was making a name for itself, it chose to throw it all away by following Nintendo’s footsteps. However, they still have a good chance of being in the game due to Xbox Game Pass. Since it allows players to enjoy multiple games at a cheaper rate. Maybe the price hikes are way to give consumers a bargain, but it doesn’t seem as viable. If Bethesda wants the success of The Elder Scrolls 6, being on Game Pass will be a huge bonus. Moreover, the success of Oblivion Remaster proves that this can work out. However, if Xbox decides to increase the subscription prices exceptionally high, it would be a bummer. Year 2026 is still far, so nothing can be said now. However, it’s for sure, it is just the beginning of the biggest price increase of games. What do you think? Should Xbox make The Elder Scrolls 6 available on Game Pass? Do you think the franchise will be okay without it? Let us know in the comments below. How students choose a college How students choose a college Ethan Bianco, 17, waited right up until the May 1 deadline before deciding which college he would attend in the fall. The senior at Kinder High School for the Performing and Visual Arts in Houston was accepted to several schools, and had whittled down his choices to Vanderbilt University and University of Texas at Austin. Ultimately, the cost was a significant factor in his final decision. “UT is a much better award package,” he said. In-state tuition for the current academic year is $10,858 to $13,576 a year, which would be largely covered by Bianco’s financial aid offer. More from Personal Finance: Is college still worth it? It is for most, but not all How to maximize your college financial aid offer What student loan forgiveness opportunities remain under Trump Vanderbilt, on the other hand, consistently ranks among the best private colleges for financial aid and promises to meet 100% of a family’s demonstrated need. The school initially offered Bianco $35,000 in aid, he said. With that package, “it would be about $40,000 more for my family to attend Vanderbilt per year.” However, he successfully appealed his award package and leveraged private scholarships to bring the price down further — and committed to Vanderbilt on National College Decision Day. How cost plays into college choices For most graduating high school seniors, the math works out differently. The rising cost of college has resulted in a higher percentage of students enrolling in public schools over private ones, according to Robert Franek, editor-in-chief of The Princeton Review. “Currently, it is about 73% of the undergraduate population — but this year, with increasing uncertainties about financial aid and changing policies about student loans, it is very likely that number will go up,” Franek said. Soaring college costs and looming student debt balances have pushed this trend, and this year, there are added concerns about the economy and dwindling federal loan forgiveness options. As a result, this year’s crop of high school seniors is more likely to choose local and less-expensive public schools rather than private universities far from home, Franek said. Price is now a ******* consideration among students and parents when choosing a college, other reports also show. Financial concerns govern decision-making for 8 in 10 families, according to one report by education lender Sallie Mae, outweighing even academics when choosing a school “Choosing a school is a personal and individual decision,” said Chris Ebeling, head of student lending at Citizens Financial Group. Along with academics and extracurriculars, “equally important is the cost,” he said. “That needs to be weighed and considered carefully.” Carlos Marin, 17, on National College Decision Day. Courtesy of AT&T On National College Decision Day, Carlos Marin, a senior at Milby High School, also in Houston, enrolled at the University of Houston-Downtown. Marin, 17, who could be the first person in his family to graduate from college, said he plans to live at home and commute to classes. “The other schools I got into were farther away but the cost of room and board was really expensive,” Marin said. College costs keep rising College costs have risen significantly in recent decades, with tuition increasing 5.6% a year, on average, since 1983 — outpacing inflation and other household expenses, according to a recent report by J.P. Morgan Asset Management. Deep cuts in state funding for higher education have also contributed to the soaring price tag and pushed more of the costs onto students. Families now shoulder 48% of college expenses, up from 38% a decade ago, J.P. Morgan Asset Management found, with scholarships, grants and loans helping to bridge the gap. Nearly every year, students and their families have been borrowing more, which boosted total outstanding student debt to where it stands today, at more than $1.6 trillion. A separate survey by The Princeton Review found that taking on too much debt is the No. 1 worry among all college-bound students. Incoming Vanderbilt freshman Bianco qualified for a number of additional private scholarships and even received a free laptop from AT&T so that he could submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid and fill out college applications. He said he is wary of taking out loans to make up for the difference. “I believe that student loans can be beneficial but there’s also the assumption that you’ll be in debt for a very long time,” Bianco said. “It almost becomes a burden that is too much to bear.” Don’t miss these insights from CNBC PRO Source link #students #choose #college Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content]

BEN HARVEY: It’s time for Anthony Albanese to finally earn his stripes BEN HARVEY: It’s time for Anthony Albanese to finally earn his stripes Peter Dutton needed the last-minute divine intervention that saved Scott “I believe in miracles” Morrison in 2019. God was an early postal voter at this election and he/she/they ticked the red box. The country is in for three more years of Anthony Albanese. Here’s hoping that first term was a dress rehearsal and the cobwebs have been shaken out because the next three years is when the financial rubber hits the road. Labor has pledged tax cuts of $5 a week, starting next year. All 14 million *********** taxpayers will get back an average of $260 a year. Feel like giving the politicians a rating this Federal election? Our Pollie Rater lets you do just that. Rate the politicians Great. But it won’t touch the sides for the people who need it and won’t be noticed by those who don’t. Albanese has proved he doesn’t mind breaking a tax pledge (remember stage three?) so he should walk this one back and means-test the policy to target those experiencing a true cost of living crisis (they can’t afford food) rather than a cost of living within their means inconvenience (they can’t afford Bali). Does anyone believe people Gina Rinehart, Clive Palmer and Mike Cannon-Brookes are going to be eating home-brand polony if they don’t get some financial help? I know the divorce means Twiggy’s down to his last $17 billion but he’ll probably be ok. Camera IconLabor has pledged to spend $10 billion constructing 100,000 homes. Credit: Jason Edwards / NewsWire/NCA NewsWire If Albanese handles his personal finances like he does the national accounts he won’t keep that $4 million beach house for long. Which takes us to the issue of housing. Labor has pledged to spend $10 billion constructing 100,000 homes. I will eat the laptop I am typing this on if someone can tell me who is going to build them. Labor is slashing immigration, which means the supply of Irish tradies will dry up (ditto the ******** students who are quietly and illegally working as ceiling fixers) so we are relying on the promise “with Labor, free TAFE will be permanent so you can get the skills you need” doing the job. Great, but . . . Those locally trained tradies are going to be useless for at least two years, probably three, and when they work out which end of the hammer to use they’ll ******* off to the mines and treble their salaries by standing behind a wheelbarrow on a Rio Tinto project feeding China’s demand for steel. About that . . . At some point in the next term of government the PM is going to have to make sense of a foreign policy based on selling iron ore overseas and hoping it doesn’t come floating back in the form of a ******** troop ship. He was timid, unsure of himself and seemed perennially caught in a policy fog. We had a national security scare mid-campaign when that ******** naval patrol rounded the south-west corner of Australia and headed north, sparking fears of a blockade at Port Hedland. Seriously, do people think those boats are made of plasticine? They may as well have had “Made in ***********” stamped on their hulls. The *********** Government makes billions in royalties and taxes from Beijing’s arms program and politicians seem determined to spend the windfall, and then some. Albanese is staring at $100 billion worth of deficits over the next three years, in part because of the reckless promise to give a tax break to everyone who can’t afford a trip to Kuta. We are shackling the next five generations of Australians to a mountain of debt that will be a crushing yoke on every budget for decades to come. My kids annoy the hell out of me but fining them $1.2 trillion dollars tomorrow for my irresponsibly spendthrift behaviour today? That’s not going to win anyone a Barnados parent-of-the- year award. On top of $28 billion a year in interest payments, we’re slugging them with untold billions more to rebuild the nation’s electricity system. Dutton’s hare-brained idea for nuclear energy is off the table so all bets are on Chris Bowen building enough wind turbines and solar panels, and rewiring the national grid, to keep the lights on. He doesn’t know how much that will cost but it will be more than we expect. When was the last time the Federal Government built anything on time and on budget? We can’t finish a train line on time and on budget and we’ve been building them for 200 years. What chance have we got of replacing the entire national electricity system with technology we’ve never used at scale before without blowing the budget? The Anthony Albanese we saw in the last term is not up to these challenges. He was timid, unsure of himself and seemed perennially caught in a policy fog. A second election win should be the antidote to any imposter syndrome the kid from a council flat felt in his first term. In his second stint, Albanese needs to become the Prime Minister we hoped he would be when we voted him in three years ago. Small-town mayors ‘excited’ Pierre Poilievre targeting seat in rural Alberta – National Small-town mayors ‘excited’ Pierre Poilievre targeting seat in rural Alberta – National The prospective new riding for federal Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre is home to wheat fields, dinosaur bones and Nickelback. It’s also Tory country through and through. Battle River—Crowfoot in central Alberta is a long way from the Ottawa riding that was Poilievre’s home base for more than 20 years, as he seeks to regain a seat in the House of Commons. Damien Kurek, a three-time elected member of Parliament, is relinquishing his seat in Battle River—Crowfoot to allow Poilievre to run in a byelection there later this year, the Conservative Party of Canada announced Friday. Kurek walked to victory in Monday’s election with 82 per cent of the vote, one of the most lopsided races in the country. Poilievre lost his seat in the Ottawa-area riding of Carleton to Liberal candidate Bruce Fanjoy. Prime Minister Mark Carney said a byelection would be held as soon as possible. Story continues below advertisement Mayors across the Alberta region said they’re delighted. “I’m kind of excited,” said Danny Povaschuk, mayor of Hanna, the town northeast of Calgary that produced Flames legend Lanny McDonald and rock band Nickelback. “We’re in Alberta. We’re blue, right? I’ll call it a privilege, actually, to have him in our riding here, and I’m relatively confident he should be able to win again.” Poilievre’s decision to run in the riding will be viewed by some as a homecoming for the born-and-raised Calgarian. Before moving to Ottawa in his early 20s to start his political career, he attended high school in the city’s southwest and graduated from the University of Calgary. 2:15 Premiers Houston, Ford blast Conservatives as Poilievre faces uncertain future For riding locals, he’s familiar only by name. Wainwright Mayor Bruce Pugh said he has mixed feelings. Story continues below advertisement “Is it going to be high-profile, low representation? Is it going to be that kind of situation? Right off the bat, I don’t think so,” Pugh said. Kurek’s departure will be a loss, Pugh added, as they worked closely together. “We recognize scope is a little ******* as the leader of His Majesty’s Opposition, but I don’t think we should expect or accept any lower level of representation,” Pugh said of Poilievre. More on Politics More videos Battle River — Crowfoot is a vast and sparsely populated riding that, according to Elections Canada, is almost 53,000 square kilometres in size — larger than countries like Switzerland or the Netherlands. The population is about 110,000, putting population density at about two people per square kilometre. Heather Colberg, the mayor of Drumheller, home to the Badlands and dinosaur fossils, said she’s proud of Kurek for stepping down to allow Poilievre to seek a seat in Parliament. She also expects he’ll be back representing the riding in four years. Trending Now Conservative MP will resign Alberta riding so Pierre Poilievre can run again 2 people plunge to their deaths from scenic point at Utah national park “Isn’t that wild? I think Damien is just an incredible, incredible person. He’s been a great MP for us, but to actually give up his seat for the betterment of the party is wow … just admirable,” Colberg said. “Obviously I’m pretty honoured Pierre’s hopefully going to represent us. And he’s an Alberta boy originally, so I think he completely understands the overall Alberta thing. I’m excited for him. I’m excited for all of us.” Story continues below advertisement She said the riding is perfect for Poilievre to land in. 4:11 Canada Election 2025: Conservatives react to ‘surprising’ outcome after Liberals projected to win “I think we’re the most Conservative seat in Canada for sure … obviously one of the top. Definitely it’s a mindset in rural Alberta.” Camrose, a city of about 20,000, is the riding’s largest community. Its mayor, PJ Stasko, praised Kurek’s efforts in Parliament to add a pedestrian underpass to a railway crossing in the area. If Poilievre wins, Stasko said he hopes the leader will offer the same representation residents have come to expect. “Being visible at many community events and special events that we host around town is key.” Povaschuk added that Poilievre could get off to a good start by following in Kurek’s footsteps and coming to Hanna’s Canada Day parade. There are other options this summer too: the Hand Hills Lake Stampede and the one-day Hardgrass Bronc Match in Pollockville, Alta. Story continues below advertisement “Obviously being leader, there’s a lot more commitment other than your riding. I think that may have been what cost him in his riding in Ontario,” said Povaschuk. Elon Musk’s European crisis deepens—initial April sales numbers prove devastating for Tesla Elon Musk’s European crisis deepens—initial April sales numbers prove devastating for Tesla Four key EV friendly European markets reported high double-digit drops in Tesla volumes in April with only Norway showing some improvement. So far there has been little sign that the newer Model Y is rekindling interest in Elon Musk’s brand on the continent. Europe, the world’s second largest market for electric vehicles after China, appears to be closed for business to Elon Musk’s Tesla. The beleaguered CEO may regret returning to the automaker’s headquarters in Austin this month, as the first batch of national markets published car sales figures that show the brand remains in freefall on the continent. Whether it’s France or Sweden, the Netherlands or Switzerland, registrations of new Tesla vehicles—which lag retail sales slightly—continued to plummet at high double-digit rates. Now their sales numbers are dwindling so much they risk becoming meaningless compared to the United States or China. Tesla investors have been hoping its historically weak first quarter was an anomaly due to a changeover from the older version of the Model Y on ***** in Europe since late 2021 to the newer one complete with some fresher styling to the front and rear. In advance of the “Juniper” derivative’s March launch, all four of Tesla’s factories shut down their Model Y assembly line for retooling in February, greatly reducing availability and contributing to last week’s historically weak Q1 results. The midsize crossover has been the best-selling car of any kind worldwide for two years straight and accounts for about two-thirds of the brand’s volume, so any changeover was bound to distort monthly sales figures. But Tesla’s European business appears to be in full-blown meltdown. In France, its volume sank 59% to 863 cars for the month. Sweden, where there is a labor dispute between Tesla and the local IF Metall trade union, saw its sales plummet 81% to just 203 vehicles in an otherwise growing market. In the Netherlands, Tesla sold just 382 cars in April, a 74% dropoff. Switzerland was also a disaster—down 50% to 227 cars. All these markets are relatively wealthy, have a sizeable EV public charging network and enjoy a penetration rate for EVs far higher than Spain, Italy or most of Eastern Europe. In other words, they tend to be where conditions for Tesla are most favorable. Instead the lone bright spot was Norway, where volumes grew 12% to 976 cars. To put that into perspective, the grand total 19,771 new Tesla vehicles registered across all five markets for the first four months of this year is roughly the equivalent of two weeks of sales in China. Story Continues It’s important to note these figures could still be affected by a slow production ramp and limited availability of the Model Y Juniper. Moreover, a number of car markets have yet to publish their figures. Chief among them are Germany and the ***, respectively the largest and second-largest in Europe. But for a CEO who has been in the news constantly for all the wrong reasons—whether cheating at video games and lying about it, allegedly failing to pay child support for some of his 14 children, or attacking the judiciary branch for attempts to limit President Donald Trump’s power—the risk remains that he’s inflicted permanent damage on Tesla. Musk’s political activism in Europe has gone down poorly with local customers. The Tesla CEO has intervened primarily on behalf of white nationalists like English Defense League founder Tommy Robinson in the ***—someone so far to the right even Trump ally Nigel Farage wants nothing to do with him. In Germany, the picture is little different. Elon Musk vociferously backed the Alternative für Deutschland (AfD) in the recent election, a party that on Friday was ruled a right-wing extremist movement in its entirety and no longer just its fringe elements.
