Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge launch: Specs, price, availability
Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge launch: Specs, price, availability
Samsung launched the Galaxy S25 Edge, a thinner version of its flagship smartphone.
Arjun Kharpal | CNBC
Samsung on Tuesday unveiled a thin version of its flagship smartphone in an unusually timed launch as it looks to maintain momentum in its mobile divison against an uncertain consumer backdrop and U.S. tariff policy.
The Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge is just 5.8 millimeters thin and weighs 163 grams, making it one of the thinnest smartphones on the market.
Samsung said the device starts at $1,099 and goes on ***** on May 30.
The launch comes just under four months after Samsung staged its annual flagship phone launch for the S25 series. It is unusual for Samsung to launch a new high-end device this soon after the January event with the normal timeline generally being the middle of the year for the unveiling of its latest foldable phones.
The move highlights the South Korean tech giant’s desire to capitalize on the success of the S25 range as it faces rising competition from ******** players and an uncertain macroeconomic environment.
Samsung reported last month that it saw a jump in revenue and profit in the first quarter of the year at its mobile division thanks to strong sales of its S25 series.
However, Daniel Araujo, vice president at Samsung’s mobile division, warned on an earnings call last month that smartphone demand is expected to decrease in the second quarter due to “seasonality trends” and forecasts could be “adjusted” further due to global tariff policy.
U.S. President Donald Trump’s “reciprocal” tariffs took effect in April though they were paused shortly after. The White House exempted certain tech products such as smartphones and chips, providing some reprieve for companies like Samsung and Apple. The U.S. and China meanwhile agreed on Monday to pause most of their tariffs on each party.
Araujo said that the S25 Edge could help “sustain flagship-centric sales,” underscoring why Samsung has decided to launch the phone now.
Apple reportedly working on thin iPhone
Thinner phones have become an obsession with smartphone makers who are hoping these devices will appeal to people who want the flagship experience without the size of a traditional device. Samsung’s S25 Edge has a 6.7-inch display, the same as the Galaxy S25+, but it is thinner and lighter.

The phone also packs a dual camera system and Samsung’s latest AI features.
“For the second half of 2025 ‘thin is most definitely in’,” Ben Wood, chief analyst at CCS Insight, told CNBC.
“Samsung is first out the gate with a slim design, but Apple is expected to follow in September, and the burgeoning ******** brands such as Honor and Xiaomi probably won’t be far behind.”
Samsung may be trying to get ahead of its closest rival Apple, which is gearing up to launch a thin version of its flagship device dubbed the iPhone 17 Air, according to a Bloomberg report this year.
“It is hard to believe this is not a pre-emptive strike following the widespread speculation that Apple will have a thin iPhone in its next line-up,” Wood added.

GOP leaders snubbed the hard right on Medicaid. They’re vowing to fight back.
GOP leaders snubbed the hard right on Medicaid. They’re vowing to fight back.
House Republican leaders appear to have won support from key moderates by backing off the most controversial proposals to overhaul Medicaid — but it has created new risks for the GOP’s domestic policy megabill.
Fierce pressure is now building from hospitals and clinics to the Medicaid cuts that have survived while conservative hard-liners are threatening to withhold their votes if they don’t get deeper trims to the safety-net program.
It adds up to a bumpy road ahead for the House Energy and Commerce Committee as it prepares for a marathon meeting to advance the legislation Tuesday afternoon.
The proposal unveiled by Chair Brett Guthrie (R-Ky.) would not slash federal reimbursement rates in most cases or impose per-capita caps on payments to states, but it would likely force states to revamp how they finance their programs or cut benefits. A preliminary Congressional Budget Office estimate requested by Democrats found that more than 8.6 million people would go uninsured if the health portions of the GOP’s party-line package become law.
While such significant changes to Medicaid could face significant resistance in the Senate — Sen. Josh Hawley (R-Mo.), for example, wrote in a New York Times op-ed Monday that big Medicaid cuts are “morally wrong and politically suicidal” — Guthrie appears to have the votes he needs to make progress this week.
Rep. Nick Langworthy (R-N.Y.), an Energy and Commerce member who had been wary of deep cuts to Medicaid, praised the “bold” proposal in a social media post Monday, saying it “achieves our top priorities: protecting Medicaid for those who genuinely need it.”
“From day one, I made it clear that I would fight relentlessly to protect rural hospitals and safeguard access to care,” he said.
Once past the committee, however, the legislation faces a whirlwind of threats on the House floor, where opposition from any three Republican members could sink the entire sweeping package of tax cuts, border security enhancements, defense plus-ups and more.
A key leader of the hard-right bloc, Rep. Chip Roy (R-Texas), said in social media posts Monday that Guthrie’s proposal doesn’t offer “ANY transformative changes” to Medicaid, “among MANY [other] problems.“
“We will need SIGNIFICANT additional changes to garner my support,” Roy added.
And it remains to be seen if a broader group of swing-district Republicans would be swayed by the proposal. Guthrie has made the case that the legislation would preserve Medicaid for the most vulnerable instead of “capable adults who choose not to work,” but Democrats are prepared to weaponize coverage-loss predictions and potentially major impacts on state budgets to pressure potential GOP holdouts.
“The Republicans are trying to say this is a moderate bill,” ranking member Frank Pallone (D-N.J.) told reporters Monday, referring to the proposals GOP leaders opted not to include. “Nothing could be further from the truth.”
A mounting pressure campaign from health care facilities could be especially influential; many Republicans have cited the potential for hospital and clinic closures in expressing wariness about deeper cuts. While worst-case scenarios did not come to fruition, providers are arguing the proposed policies would still have devastating impacts.
The National Association of Community Health Centers is blanketing Capitol Hill for a fly-in Tuesday, and hospital groups are issuing blistering statements. Hospitals are major employers in many members’ districts and can have significant sway over members’ votes.
“Congressional Republicans and President Trump rightly pledged to protect Medicaid benefits and coverage — this bill fails that test,” said Chip Kahn, president of the Federation for American Hospitals, in a statement. “It is imperative Republicans go back to the drawing board; too many lives depend on it.”
“Congress has a moral obligation to consider the harm that such disastrous cuts would have on America’s health safety net,” added Sister Mary Haddad, the Catholic Health Association CEO.
Some blue state governments also warned about coverage losses and crushing fiscal impacts. Sarah Adelman, commissioner of New Jersey’s Medicaid agency, said the proposal “would cut people off from coverage and take vital funding away from New Jersey” by curtailing provider taxes, a common practice states use to finance their Medicaid programs.
She also said that punishing states for using their own funding to offer coverage regardless of immigration status is “cruel and short-sighted.”
The Greater New York Hospital Association also slammed the bill, arguing in a statement that work requirements could lead to 1.6 million people to lose coverage in the state. The group also projected New York would lose $1.6 billion in federal funds from the cut to expansion funding for coverage of undocumented immigrants. New York is one of 14 states that use state funds to cover undocumented children.
Republicans, meanwhile, are accusing Democrats and their allies of fear-mongering about the impacts. They are feuding, for instance, over one CBO estimate Democrats used to claim the legislation would lead to 13.7 million more people going uninsured — an estimate that included coverage losses attributable to the potential expiration of enhanced subsidies for Affordable Care Act, something Republicans never meant to address in the party-line megabill, even if they are skeptical about extending them.
“Democrats are pedaling incorrect reports that include policies that aren’t even in the bill,” Guthrie said in a statement. “It is reckless that my colleagues on the other side of the aisle claimed an artificially high number in alleged coverage loss just so they can fear monger and score political points.”

Kim Kardashian to appear in court as witness in Paris burglary case
Kim Kardashian to appear in court as witness in Paris burglary case
Kim Kardashian is due to appear in court in Paris later today as a witness in a burglary case dating back to 2016, when she was held up at gunpoint and had millions of dollars’ worth of jewellery taken from her.
The reality TV star and business woman, 44, is expected to take the stand in the afternoon to give her version of events of the burglary, which saw her tied up and held at gunpoint in a luxury suite where she was staying during Paris Fashion Week.
Jewels worth millions of dollars were taken from her, including a $4m (£2.9m) diamond engagement from then-husband Kanye West.
Ten people are on trial, which began last month.
On Monday, witness Abderrahmane Ouatiki, the night receptionist who says he was marched up to Kardashian’s hotel suite and made to translate the burglars’ demands, said the American star was “completely hysterical” and “in a state of complete terror” as a “very nervous” man pointed a gun at her.
“He was very aggressive and she was utterly terrified,” said Ouatiki.
He added he too had feared for his life as the burglar was acting erratic and was clearly irritated by Kardashian’s screaming.
Three people reportedly kept watch in the reception of the exclusive Hotel de Pourtalès in central Paris while two other men forced Ouatiki to take them to Kardashian’s suite, where they demanded she give him the ring and also stole other jewels for a total of $9m.
The men were arrested three months later alongside several other people thought to be accessories to the crime.
Twelve were eventually due to appear in court, although one died in March and another has been excused due to health reasons. Of the remaining 10, all but two deny any involvement in the burglary. The jewels were never found but police think they were broken up and sold on.
French media have dubbed the defendants the “grandpa robbers” as several are in their 70s. Many also have serious health problems. One is undergoing chemotherapy, while another had visible tremors.
The alleged ringleader, Aomar Ait Khedache, 68, was questioned last week but is deaf and mute and had to write his answers down with a pen and paper which were projected on to a screen.
Since the trial opened on 28 April, prosecutors have sought to dispel the image of hapless elderly burglars – who reportedly did not know their victims was a hugely famous celebrity.
“They may have made mistakes but they were still a decent team,” said the lead investigator of the Brigade de Répression du Banditisme (Banditry Repression Brigade) special unit last week.
He noted that the burglars tied up Kardashian’s feet and ankles with cable ties and stuck tape on her mouth, and they took a car to park near the scene of the crime and used burner phones.
“That was well done,” he said. “They pulled it off, because they managed to flog the goods and palm off a $4m ring in Antwerp, which isn’t that easy,” he added.
In his testimony, Ouatiki also painted a frightening picture of one of the burglars who he said was wielding a gun and was “stressed and shouting… You feel that’s someone that can be very dangerous.”
Ouatiki acted as an interpreter between the man and Kardashian and said he did his best to “calm things down as I didn’t know what he was capable of”.
When the burglars tied up Kardashian and took her to the bathroom, she was only wearing a bathrobe and the belt came undone, the court heard. Asked by Kardashian’s lawyer Léonore Hennerick to describe the moment, Ouatiki declined to go into detail. “You have to respect the victim, I think,” he said.
Referencing that moment in an emotional interview in 2020, Kardashian told American journalist David Letterman that she thought she was going to be ********* assaulted.
“I was like, ‘Okay, this is the time I’m going to get ******’,” she said.
She added that she feared for her life and that she was worried for her sister Khloe, who was out at a club: “I’m gonna be dead in the room and she’s gonna be traumatised for the rest of her life.”
Instead, the burglars grabbed her ring as well as various other jewels, phone and €1,000 in cash and ran off. Kardashian was quickly able to untie herself and her bodyguard arrived shortly after. She gave a statement to police in the early hours of 3 October and immediately flew back to the US.
For his part, Ouatiki – an Algerian national who at the time was a PhD student in semiotics – said he suffered greatly from speculation in the media that he may have been in on the heist.
“The suspicion was very heavy to bear,” he told the court.
Ouatiki told French media he lost his student status shortly after the heist and had to go back to Algeria, where he was diagnosed with PTSD.
“It was a catastrophe, my life fell apart,” he told Le Point.
On Tuesday morning, Simone Bretter, Kardashian’s friend and stylist, will take the stand. She was staying in the same suite during the heist but was on a different floor and hid when she realised burglars had broken in.
Almost 500 journalists are accredited and Kardashian’s testimony is set to attract huge media attention.
“Testifying will allow her to reclaim agency in this situation and rewrite the ending,” said Jeetendr Sehdev, celebrity expert and the author of The Kim Kardashian Principle.
“In 2016 she was the punchline. But in 2025 testifying is going to turn her into the narrator,” he told the BBC.

Doctors Say This ‘Relatively Simple’ Diet Can Lead to Major Weight Loss in Just 3 Months
Doctors Say This ‘Relatively Simple’ Diet Can Lead to Major Weight Loss in Just 3 Months
While there are countless ways to shed pounds, most personal trainers and nutritionists agree that a balanced mix of healthy eating and regular exercise is the foundation for maintaining a healthy body. Recent research is now highlighting one simple diet that stands out as particularly effective for weight loss compared to other options.
The study followed 99 overweight or obese adults for 12 months as they participated in Time-Restricted Eating (TRE), a form of intermittent fasting. The individuals were broken up into four groups: one was instructed to follow habitual eating (meaning they had a 12+ hour eating window), one followed early TRE (an 8-hour eating window before 10 a.m.), one followed late TRE (an 8-hour eating window after 1 p.m.), and the last followed self-selected TRE (participants chose their 8-hour window). All groups followed a Mediterranean diet program.
At the beginning and end of the 12 weeks, researchers measured body weight and waist and hip circumferences. They also followed up a year after the study had ended.
Related: Born to Sleep Less? Doctors Say This Rare Gene Mutation Might Be Why
They found that after 12 weeks, all of the groups lost weight. The habitual eating group cut their weight by roughly three pounds, the early TRE group dropped just over 9 pounds, the late TRE group lost nearly 7 pounds, and the self-selected TRE group a little more than 8 pounds.
“Our study found that restricting the eating window to 8 hours at any time of the day for 3 months can result in significant weight loss for at least a year,” said lead author Dr. Alba Camacho-Cardenosa, from the Biosanitary Research Institute of Granada. “These benefits can be attributed to the 16-hour fasting window rather than the time of eating.”
It’s important to note that there were no substantial differences between the TRE groups. This may indicate that regardless of the type of time-restricted eating you participate in, it can be seen as an effective long-term approach for sustaining weight loss, even beyond the three months you practice it.
“This kind of intermittent fasting appears feasible for adults with overweight or obesity who wish to have a relatively simple way of losing and maintaining weight loss that is less tedious and more time efficient compared with daily calorie counting, but it warrants further investigations in larger and longer-term studies,” said Dr. Jonatan R. Ruiz, study coordinator from the University of Granada.

Satellite Service For Consumers Slated For Early 2026
Satellite Service For Consumers Slated For Early 2026
PCMag editors select and review products independently. If you buy through affiliate links, we may earn commissions, which help support our testing.
AST SpaceMobile is still playing catch up to SpaceX’s cellular Starlink system. But despite the gap, the company is racing to kick off its own initial service starting about six months from now.
AST’s CEO Abel Avellan mentioned the aggressive timeline in an earnings call on Monday. “The idea is to have a beta service sometime by the end of this year. A commercial service fully open for consumers sometime during early 2026,” he said. “Our plan is for this service to be text, internet, data and access to applications like video conferencing.”
Avellan mentioned the timeline as SpaceX’s cellular Starlink system is already available to T-Mobile customers through a free beta program. In July, the carrier then plans on officially launching the service as “T-Satellite,” which will cost $10 per month for most consumers, including those on rival carriers.
In contrast, AST has only launched five “BlueBird” satellites for its own system when it needs at least 45 to 60 satellites to begin offering continuous service across the US and other markets. In addition, the company still has to secure regulatory approval from the Federal Communications Commission before it can commercially offer the service to customers through key partners including AT&T and Verizon.
But in Monday’s earnings call, AST provided some details on how it plans to close the gap with SpaceX as both companies vie to provide satellite connectivity to cellular dead zones. In Monday’s earnings presentation, the company said it plans on holding five satellite launches over the next six to nine months. (The first launch, carrying a prototype next-generation BlueBird satellite, is scheduled for July though India’s space agency.)
In addition, AST anticipates “orbital launches every one to two months on average during 2025 and 2026,” it said. The company is also on track to manufacture 40 second-generation BlueBird satellites for this year, “for over 50 satellites in total.”
However, AST executives declined to say how many satellites will be flown during each upcoming rocket launch. So the size of the initial constellation remains unclear. That said, during the call, the company noted it only needs 25 satellites to start offering “non-continuous” service to users, meaning it can start generating revenue, but at the expense of coverage gaps.
In other words, it looks like the company is betting it can operate around 25 satellites by the end of this year or early 2026. During the call, AST executives also said the company was paying more for its BlueBird satellites, partly because it’s trying to move quickly to build the constellation.
“The demand signals we are receiving is to get the service to market as fast as possible,” said AST President Scott Wisniewski. “So what you’re seeing is essentially a little bit of pull forward on launch, in a time when launch is harder to get, so we spent a little bit more than anticipated to get the timeline moving fast.”
The other issue is that Trump’s tariffs have been raising the costs for the raw materials to build the satellites. Each BlueBird satellite now costs between $21 to 23 million to manufacture and launch, up from $19 to $22 million. In an FCC filing, AST also notes its longer-term goal is operate 243 satellites by 2028.

Tony Hawk says that more Pro Skater remasters are on the table
Tony Hawk says that more Pro Skater remasters are on the table
If the impending remaster of Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3 + 4 has you itching to see other classic skateboard games, you aren’t alone: the legend himself says he has “aspirations” to see more games, like Tony Hawk’s Underground, remastered for modern consoles, but the final decision isn’t up to him.
Hawk spoke with Screen Rant at THPS Fest, and when asked if he wanted to see more games, Hawk replied in his usual, humble way: “I always have aspirations. It’s not up to me generally. I’ll campaign all I can, but I’m working with a much ******* company that’s a lot smarter than me.” He did clarify that there were not any discussions about a remaster of Tony Hawk’s Underground, but that the success of THPS 3 + 4 would influence the release of future titles.
The remake of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 launched in 2020, and THPS 3 + 4 was reported to have been cancelled in 2022 after Vicarious Vision’s merger with Blizzard. It has since been revived (with a release date of July 11), but it shows the franchise is not set in stone. According to Screen Rant’s interview, the THPS remasters are determined on a case-by-case basis. While there’s no guarantee, a successful launch of THPS 3 + 4 could make a remaster of Underground much more likely.
Activision
While the two existing remasters are essentially straightforward skating games, Underground took a different approach and presented a career mode that let players step into the shoes of a customer skater and build their fame up through competitions. In that way, the game is more of an adventure title than a skating sim, but it’s still a Tony Hawk game at its core.
The gaming landscape is somewhat devoid of skating games at the moment. The Tony Hawk series is by far the most popular option, although EA’s Skate franchise is expected to receive a new entry sometime in 2025. Outside of these, however, choices are limited to smaller-scale titles like OlliOlli World or the quirky Skatebird.

Did Jags’ Travis Hunter graduate from Colorado? It’s complicated.
Numerous news media outlets reported that Heisman Trophy winner Travis Hunter had graduated from the University of Colorado on May 8, citing social media posts from CU that showed him attending the graduation ceremony and saying he “GOT THAT DEGREE!”
Another CU football post showed Hunter in a video saying he “graduated in three years.”

What actually happened is a little more complicated. He is not scheduled to graduate until December after applying to graduate in fall 2025, according to an athletics department spokesman.
He attended the May 8 graduation ceremony in Boulder anyway to be able to experience it now, before he begins his pro football career as the No. 2 overall draft pick for the Jacksonville Jaguars, according to the school.
Travis Hunter runs a route during a Jaguars rookie minicamp in Jacksonville.
“Travis walked in (the May 8) commencement ceremony and will graduate with a degree in anthropology in December 2025,” said Steve Hurlbert, the athletics department spokesman. “He’s likely to be a little busy that time of year and he really wanted to experience all the pomp and circumstance.”

Hurlbert also noted Hunter has a 3.9 grade-point average.
How common is ‘walking early’ before graduation?
It is not that unusual. It’s allowed at other schools, too, for different reasons, such as wanting to participate in the graduation ceremony with your friends even if you need to complete a few more classes to get your degree.
Actually graduating is still different than attending the commencement ceremony because it requires students to meet all their degree requirements. At CU, students are required to apply to graduate for the semester in which they’ll “officially and successfully” complete all requirements for the degrees and majors they’re pursuing, according to the university website.

In Hunter’s case, Hurlbert said he applied to graduate in the fall of 2025, which ends in December. It’s not clear what requirements Hunter has left to complete. Hurlbert declined to say, citing privacy law covering academic records. A message seeking comment from Hunter through his agent was not returned.
This explains why Hunter was not listed among the thousands of degree candidates in the CU commencement program for May 8 even though he attended the ceremony.
“CU had 67 student-athletes graduate last week and 103 student-athletes walked in the ceremony, so it’s not unusual at all for student-athletes who have graduated last winter or will graduate in August or next December to participate in spring commencement because it’s such a great experience,” Hurlbert said.
Why did CU’s social media indicate he got his degree?
The posts from CU football’s social accounts led to widespread reports that Hunter had in fact graduated, including the post that said he “GOT THAT DEGREE!” It showed Hunter in graduation attire with friends saying, “Boys out here graduating man.”

“It was just a social media staffer who didn’t know that (Hunter) was just walking” in the ceremony, Hurlbert said.
Hunter himself seemed to confirm it in another CU post when he said he had “graduated in three years.”
That would be approximate if he only has a small amount of degree requirements to complete. He enrolled at Jackson State in January 2022 after graduating high school, according to The Clarion Ledger in Jackson, Mississippi. He transferred to Colorado in January 2023 after head coach Deion Sanders made the same move.
After previously being listed as a psychology major at CU, he chose to major in anthropology, the study of humanity. In January, he was named the Division I Academic All-American Team Member of the Year.

“I’m an anthropology major, and I really enjoy learning about different cultures and how they interact with one another,” Hunter said in an email interview with USA TODAY Sports last year. “Being able to learn about these cultures and skills is incredibly beneficial to me even when playing football. I have the opportunity to learn the importance of accepting and interacting with other people and playing with other people despite their cultural or ethnic makeup.”
Shilo Sanders earns master’s degree from Colorado
Among the 67 student-athletes who graduated in May, the university said Deion Sanders’ safety son, Shilo Sanders, earned a master’s degree in organizational leadership after previously earning an undergraduate degree at Jackson State. He is now with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as an undrafted free agent.
Sanders’ youngest son, Shedeur Sanders, the former Colorado quarterback, said on his YouTube show in January that he hoped to graduate at the end of the past semester in May. He was selected in the fifth round by the Cleveland Browns in the NFL draft in April. The university said he is on track to graduate later this year but has not applied for graduation yet.

Review – Grandma, No! (PC) | WayTooManyGames
WTMG’s Leo Faria: “Yep, I just wasnt amused. Grandma No! goes for cheap humor, almost expecting further comment and dialogue from a Twitch streamer showcasing it to their followers. Its short, uninteresting, and somewhat devoid of replayability. Im not saying you cant laugh a bit with some of its sections (I certainly did, like twice), but there are better comedic and slapstick-focused titles out there. Its just a forgettable novelty. If youre really starving for some comedic slapstick, just grab Octodad instead.”

Touhou Luna Nights 5-Year Anniversary Edition – Limited Edtiion
Touhou Luna Nights is a fan game based on the long-running Touhou Project, which originated with a 2D bullet hell series back in 1997. Luna Nights is quite different from traditional games in the franchise, however, as it’s a metroidvania. You’ll play as Sakuya Izayoi, who must work her way through a dangerous mansion, recovering lost powers as she attempts to escape and return home. The original release of Touhou Luna Nights is sitting with “Overwhelming Positive” reviews on Steam. Fans of metroidvanias will probably find it to be an excellent addition to their catalog. Part of what makes it so compelling is its time-warping mechanic, which can be used to solve challenging puzzles.
Combat is quite exciting too, as you’ll use a “graze” system that gives your character additional benefits by narrowly escaping damage. And like any good metroidvania, you’ll unlock a litany of useful skills as you work through its story. Give the game a look if you’re seeking a unique adventure to get you through the warm summer months.

Missouri’s attorney general has sued a utility over an explosion of a home that killed a 5-year-old
Missouri’s attorney general has sued a utility over an explosion of a home that killed a 5-year-old
LEXINGTON, Mo. (AP) — Missouri’s attorney general sued a natural gas company Monday over the explosion of a home in a small town that killed a 5-year-old boy, accusing the utility of violating a state safety law.
Attorney General Andrew Bailey’s lawsuit came less than a week after federal investigators said in a preliminary report that a Liberty Utilities employee failed to mark a section of a gas line before another company drilled into it while installing a fiber optic cable. The April 9 explosion destroyed a home in Lexington, a town of about 4,500 people about 55 miles (89 kilometers) east of Kansas City.
The blast killed Alistair Lamb and injured his 10-year-old sister, Cami, and their father, Jacob Cunningham. Bailey’s lawsuit, filed in Lafayette County Circuit Court, alleges that a Liberty employee “falsely” told the company installing the fiber optic cable that all gas lines had been marked. The lawsuit called the explosion a “preventable tragedy.”
Bailey said Liberty violated a state law designed to ensure that digging for underground water, sewer and telecommunications lines is safe. Bailey is seeking a $10,000 fine for each day the section of gas line wasn’t marked and wants a special monitor appointed to ensure that the company complies with the law.
The company said in a statement that as a party to the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board’s ongoing investigation, it cannot comment much about the explosion or the lawsuit. Liberty said it will continue to help families affected by the explosion and “support broader recovery efforts.”
“Nothing is more important to us than the safety of our customers, employees, and communities,” the statement said. “We remain fully committed to working with authorities and regulatory agencies to support the ongoing investigation into the cause of the incident.”
