  1. Missouri Republican Lawmakers Try New Strategy to Overturn ‘Extreme’ Abortion Amendment Missouri Republican Lawmakers Try New Strategy to Overturn ‘Extreme’ Abortion Amendment The fight to save the pre-born is being revived in Missouri. In the newest development, Republican state lawmakers have approved a new referendum to ban most abortions by repealing the abortion amendment passed by voters six months ago. Last year, pro-life advocates had argued that proponents of the Missouri abortion amendment had used deceptive practices and confusing language to get voters to approve the measure. So the newly proposed constitutional amendment would return the issue to voters in November 2026, or sooner, if Republican Gov. Mike Kehoe calls a special election before then. Missouri’s abortion policies have swung dramatically in recent years. In 2022, after the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade, Missouri was the first state to ban abortion due to its trigger law. However, last November, Missouri voters narrowly approved a ballot measure to overturn abortion restrictions and enshrine abortion rights in the state constitution. The constitutional amendment guarantees a right to abortion until fetal viability, around 24 weeks. Then in March, Missouri’s Attorney General issued a cease-and-desist order against Planned Parenthood facilities in the state to keep them from offering chemical abortions there. In the latest effort to protect the unborn, the GOP Senate majority used a series of rare procedural moves to cut off a Democrat filibuster against the new pro-life amendment before passing a proposed revision in a 21-11 vote. The new measure would seek to repeal the abortion-rights amendment and instead allow abortions only for a medical emergency or fetal anomaly, or in cases of ***** or ******* up to 12 weeks of pregnancy. It also would prohibit gender transition surgeries, hormone treatments, and puberty blockers for minors. If it goes to the voters, it would make Missouri the first state to offer a pro-life amendment after passing a pro-abortion ballot measure. Missouri Rep. Brian Seitz led the effort in the House and told the Washington Post that Missourians deserve better options “that are more in line with their values.” “Voters in the past few years were given the choice between two extremes, choices with no middle ground,” the ******** pastor said. “Zero abortions, or what we have now, a landscape that allows for unfettered access.” Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America, celebrated the opportunity Missourians will have to rid their state of Amendment 3. She said in a statement, “We applaud the Missouri legislature for passing this pro-life amendment to save lives, protect parents’ rights, and safeguard women and girls.” “Despite what voters were sold before Election Day, as soon as Amendment 3 passed, the abortion lobby brought litigation to perform late-term abortions, end parental consent, and remove every safety regulation on their industry,” Dannenfelser added. “Amendment 3 is far too extreme and dangerous in a state where Planned Parenthood was caught using moldy abortion equipment on women and offering to transport a 13-year-old girl out of state without her parents knowing.” **Please sign up for CBN Newsletters and download the CBN News app to receive the latest alerts and updates from a distinctly Christian perspective.*** Source link #Missouri #Republican #Lawmakers #Strategy #Overturn #Extreme #Abortion #Amendment Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content]
  2. Proton Drive review: Secure your files and photos with end-to-end encryption Proton Drive review: Secure your files and photos with end-to-end encryption Proton Drive Plus MSRP $119.88 “Proton Drive Plus maximizes cloud security at an affordable price, particularly if you subscribe to other Proton services.” Pros Strong end-to-end encryption and privacy Good cross-platform support Convenient web app for file access Easy file and folder sharing by users or a link Built-in document editor with collaboration Cons Photo gallery isn’t searchable Windows app lacks photo access If you’ve been questioning whether Google Drive, iCloud, and OneDrive are secure enough for your personal data, Proton Drive could be the answer you’re looking for. It’s great that computers and phones come with easy backup and syncing options, but eventually, you could need more. The best cloud storage services ensure privacy, enhance security, and more at competitive prices. I researched the security of Proton Drive’s free and paid plans, then went hands-on to review the features and ease of use to confirm its quality and long-term value. Tiers and pricing Proton Drive has free and paid plans, with the most savings on bundles. Proton Proton Drive subscriptions start at $5 monthly, but it’s unlikely you’ll want to stop accessing the files and photos you’ve uploaded after only a month. The best cloud storage deals require a commitment of at least a year. An annual subscription to Proton Drive Plus costs $48 for 200 GB of cloud storage with end-to-end encryption for maximum security. That’s 24 cents per GB, a bit higher than most cloud storage. However, it includes an online document editor that stores previous versions of files so you can revert to an earlier draft of a document. It’s similar to how you can revert files in Google Docs. If you need more space, the Proton Unlimited suite increases storage to 500 GB for $120 annually, matching the price per GB of Proton Drive Plus. It also adds several popular security services like Proton Mail, Proton VPN, and Proton Pass. Proton Duo is a two-person version of Proton Unlimited that doubles secure storage to 1 TB for 50% more, $180 per year. Proton Family is a 6-user account with 3 TB of encrypted cloud data for $288 annually. As usual, the cost per GB decreases as your storage needs rise. If you’re unsure about subscribing, you don’t have to pay to enjoy the protection of Proton’s end-to-end encryption cloud storage. Proton Free includes the same apps as Proton Unlimited, with some restrictions. It’s limited to 5 GB of storage and lacks document version history, but uses the same end-to-end encryption as Proton Drive Plus. Proton offers a 30-day money-back guarantee, which could ease your mind if you’re considering one of the more expensive Proton Drive plans. Design Proton Drive suggests folders for backup up but lets me add or remove as I like. Digital Trends I tested Proton Drive as part of a Proton Unlimited subscription, starting with my Windows PC, then syncing files and photos with my iPhone. The Windows app guided me to select the folders I wanted to back up, and gave me an option to choose a location on my local drive for synced files. The default choices were good, but I added my DJI Neo drone footage to the list so I could easily access and share those videos on other devices. The backup started immediately and ran in the background as I continued using my computer. I synced several GB of photos, videos, files, and folders in my testing, and it quickly started appearing in the Proton Drive app on my iPhone. Proton Drive starts syncing files to other devices immediately. Digital Trends A new option lets me minimize local storage use by selecting folders that only sync files when I request them, instead of maintaining multiple copies on various devices. It’s also possible to sync cloud changes as they happen for quicker access. I chose optimized storage for most folders to keep my local drive space free. Proton also develops apps for Windows, macOS, iOS, and Android that let me backup and sync data across devices. Chromebooks can use the Android app, but Linux computers can only access Proton Drive via the web app, which is quite useful but lacks a backup option. The desktop apps manage backup and sync settings, but to see items synced from mobile, I need to use the web app by going to my Proton account. From Proton Drive’s web app, I can browse, search, upload, and download files and folders from almost any device. Proton Drive’s web app provides desktop access to encrypted iPhone photos. Digital Trends It’s somewhat like using Microsoft OneDrive with media and files accessible in one place, with a large file list on the right and an expandable folder tree to narrow in on the files I want in a left sidebar. On mobile devices, the Proton Drive app fills both purposes. I can control backup options for my iPhone and open and edit files and folders from any of my devices that sync to Proton Drive. Features Proton Drive uses end-to-end encryption for all files and media. Digital Trends For truly secure storage, I need data encryption to start on the device I’m using and remain until I’m ready to use that file again. That’s called end-to-end encryption, a feature Proton Drive includes in every plan, even Proton Free. On my computer, that happens quickly, but there is a noticeable delay for encryption during the first sync of photos and videos from my iPhone 13 Pro Max. An iPhone 16 would be significantly faster. After the initial setup, Proton Drive works in the background, quickly syncing media and backups as changes happen. While it’s important to securely back up data, I also want easy access to my files and convenient browsing from all my devices. While Google divides cloud storage into media on Google Photos and files on Google Drive, Proton Drive combines backups, documents, files, and media into a single web app. I can create and collaborate on documents in Proton Drive. Digital Trends Proton Drive works well, syncing data quickly and reliably. I can search or browse computer backups, files, and documents. The document editor is similar to Microsoft Word online or Google Docs with version history, collaboration, comments, and the option to download in Word, PDF, and other formats. I have no complaints with the file system, but the photo gallery won’t pose any threat to Google Photos, iCloud Photos, or any cloud service dedicated to media. Most notably, I can’t search for a photo with keywords, dates, or even metadata. Browsing is the only option. Proton Drive includes advanced file and folder sharing features. Digital Trends Secure file sharing works very well. I can share media, files, and folders with specific contacts or create a link that anyone can access without needing a Proton account. Support Proton Drive offers support via email after filling out a form. Digital Trends Proton Drive has a nice support center with plenty of articles to search or browse for quick assistance. If I need more personal help, I can contact Proton with a web form that takes my name, email, and details about my question or problem. I tested Proton Drive support by asking about viewing photos in the Windows app. The reply took about three hours, which is fast for email support. I already knew the web app was the only solution for computers, but I learned others had asked about photos in the desktop app, and that feature might come in a future update. Overall, I found Proton Drive’s support was quick, friendly, and helpful, despite the limitations of email. Privacy and security Proton was founded by CERN scientists to answer a need for private messaging. The company’s first product was Proton Mail, one of the most secure email solutions available. Proton Drive follows in those footsteps with a clean privacy policy that keeps your data safe. Beyond privacy claims, Proton Drive’s end-to-end encryption ensures all data is secure. Proton staff can’t read the files or view the photos you’ve uploaded. Your devices hold the decryption key. If you use biometric authentication like Face ID or fingerprint scans to unlock your phone and computer, everything in Proton Drive should remain secure. Even if you lose your phone or a hacker gains access to your computer, it would take thousands of years to decrypt files without the key. Is Proton Drive right for you? Proton Drive is a great option for secure cloud backups. It’s also a convenient way to sync files across devices without any risk of data leaking to hackers, government agencies, internet providers, and cloud storage providers. The default cloud services on your computer and phone lack end-to-end encryption, potentially exposing your photos and other personal information. You might pay a little more, but Proton Drive or other secure cloud services are worth consideration. If you already subscribe to Proton Mail, Proton VPN, or Proton Pass, a bundle that includes 500 GB or more of Proton Drive storage doesn’t cost much more. Proton Free is a great way to get started since it includes all these apps at no cost. I like Proton Unlimited and recommend it if you need more privacy and safety online. That said, the photo gallery could be better, so you might want to keep your Google Photos or iCloud Photos subscription if you store photos in the cloud. There are other privacy-focused solutions like NordLocker, Dropbox Advanced, Sync, and pCloud, so stay tuned for more secure cloud storage reviews and comparisons. 3. NYT Strands today: hints, spangram and answers for Thursday, May 15 NYT Strands today: hints, spangram and answers for Thursday, May 15 Strands is a brand new daily puzzle from the New York Times. A trickier take on the classic word search, you’ll need a keen eye to solve this puzzle. Like Wordle, Connections, and the Mini Crossword, Strands can be a bit difficult to solve some days. There’s no shame in needing a little help from time to time. If you’re stuck and need to know the answers to today’s Strands puzzle, check out the solved puzzle below. How to play Strands You start every Strands puzzle with the goal of finding the “theme words” hidden in the grid of letters. Manipulate letters by dragging or tapping to craft words; double-tap the final letter to confirm. If you find the correct word, the letters will be highlighted blue and will no longer be selectable. If you find a word that isn’t a theme word, it still helps! For every three non-theme words you find that are at least four letters long, you’ll get a hint — the letters of one of the theme words will be revealed and you’ll just have to unscramble it. Every single letter on the grid is used to spell out the theme words and there is no overlap. Every letter will be used once, and only once. Each puzzle contains one “spangram,” a special theme word (or words) that describe the puzzle’s theme and touches two opposite sides of the board. When you find the spangram, it will be highlighted yellow. The goal should be to complete the puzzle quickly without using too many hints. Hint for today’s Strands puzzle Today’s theme is “Animal drives.” Here’s a hint that might help you: things you ride, but not with a saddle. Today’s Strand answers NYT Today’s spanagram We’ll start by giving you the spangram, which might help you figure out the theme and solve the rest of the puzzle on your own: Today’s Strands answers BEETLE MUSTANG IMPALA JAGUAR BRONCO RABBIT Source link #NYT #Strands #today #hints #spangram #answers #Thursday Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content]
  4. Israel hits Gaza Strip, Trump touts ‘freedom zone’ plan Israel hits Gaza Strip, Trump touts ‘freedom zone’ plan Israeli military strikes have killed at least 85 people in the Gaza Strip, ************ medics say, as the United States and Arab mediators pushed for a ceasefire deal and US President Donald Trump said the territory could be a “freedom zone”. Most of the victims, including women and children, were killed in Khan Younis in the Gaza Strip’s south in air strikes that hit homes and tents, they said. The dead included local journalist Hassan Samour, who worked for the ******-run al-Aqsa radio station and was killed along with 11 family members when their home was struck, the medics said. There was no immediate comment from the Israeli military, which has intensified its offensive in the Gaza Strip as it tries to eradicate ****** in retaliation for the deadly attacks the ************ militant group carried out on Israel in 2023. In Jabalia in the northern Gaza Strip, the health ministry said an Israeli strike on al-Tawba medical clinic killed at least 15 people and wounded several others. It took Thursday’s death toll to 85, medics said. ****** said in a statement that Israel was making a “desperate attempt to negotiate under cover of fire” as indirect ceasefire talks take place between Israel and ******, involving Trump envoys and Qatar and Egyptian mediators in Doha. Israel carried out the latest strikes on the day Palestinians commemorate the “Nakba” or catastrophe, when hundreds of thousands of people fled or were forced to flee their hometowns and villages during the 1948 Middle East war that gave birth to the state of Israel. Trump on Thursday reiterated his desire to take over the Gaza Strip, telling a business roundtable in Qatar that the United States would “make it a freedom zone”. Trump first pitched his idea in February, suggesting the US would redevelop it and relocate Palestinians. The plan drew global condemnation, with Palestinians, Arab countries and the United Nations saying it would amount to ethnic cleansing. Most of the Gaza Strip’s 2.3 million population is internally displaced as Israel presses a military assault that has killed nearly 53,000 Palestinians and ravaged much of the enclave, according to ****** authorities. Israel began its assault after the October 2023 ****** attack. Speaking to a group of officials and business leaders in Qatar, which has hosted ******’ political office in Doha for years, Trump said he has “concepts for Gaza that I think are very good: make it a freedom zone, let the United States get involved”. Trump said he had seen “aerial shots where, I mean, there’s practically no building standing. It’s not like you’re trying to save something. There’s no buildings. People are living under the rubble of buildings that collapsed, which is not acceptable.” “I want to see that (Gaza Strip) be a freedom zone. And if it’s necessary, I think I’d be proud to have the United States have it, take it, make it a freedom zone. Let some good things happen.” Trump has previously said he wants to turn the Gaza Strip into the “Riviera of the Middle East”. Many Palestinians vehemently reject any plan involving them leaving the Gaza Strip, comparing such ideas to the 1948 “Nakba” when hundreds of thousands were dispossessed of their homes. Some say they would rather live in the ruins of their homes. Commenting on Trump’s remarks in Qatar, ****** official Basem Naim said the president “possesses the necessary influence” to end the Gaza Strip war and help establish a ************ state. But Naim added: “Gaza is an integral part of ************ land – it is not real estate for ***** on the open market.” Israel invaded the enclave in retaliation for the ******-led attack on southern Israeli communities on October 7, 2023, in which about 1200 people were killed and 251 were taken as hostages to the Gaza Strip, according to Israeli tallies. Earlier this month, Israel approved expanded offensive plans against ****** that might include seizing the strip and controlling aid. 6. Waymo recalled 1,200 robotaxis following collisions with road barriers Waymo recalled 1,200 robotaxis following collisions with road barriers Waymo’s autonomous-car technology has made great advances over the years to the point where it’s now allowed to offer paid robotaxi rides in select locations in the U.S. But the development of the technology is ongoing, and the robotaxi rides continue to gather valuable data for Waymo engineers to pore over as they further refine the driverless system to make it as reliable and efficient as possible. Which is why glitches will sometimes occur. On Wednesday, for example, it emerged that Waymo had to issue a software recall last year for 1,200 of its autonomous vehicles over a risk of crashes with chains, gates, and other roadway barriers, Reuters reported. The recall, which followed the launch of an ongoing probe into the issue by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) last year, involved 1,212 Waymo vehicles powered by the company’s fifth-generation automated driving system software. The issue was resolved by updating the vehicles to the latest version of the software. According to Reuters, Waymo has knowledge of 16 low-speed collisions with chains, gates, and other barriers between 2022 and late 2024, with no injuries reported. “We hold ourselves to a high safety standard, and our record of reducing injuries over tens of millions of fully autonomous miles driven shows our technology is making roads safer,” Waymo told Digital Trends in an emailed statement. “NHTSA plays a vital role in road safety, and we will continue to work collaboratively with the agency as part of our mission to be the world’s most trusted driver.” Waymo’s robotaxis currently serve around 250,000 fully autonomous paid rides a week in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Phoenix and Austin, Texas. It also has plans to launch in Washington D.C., Atlanta, and Miami, and is even embarking on its first overseas operation, in Japan. Companies operating self-driving cars on public roads in the U.S. came under greater scrutiny in 2023 after a troubling incident in San Francisco when a pedestrian, who had just been knocked over by a human-driven car, was then driven over by an empty autonomous vehicle operated by Cruise, a startup backed by General Motors. The pedestrian survived, but the incident caused huge turmoil at Cruise that culminated in General Motors announcing last year that it was pulling funding for the project following billions of dollars of investment. While autonomous vehicles like Waymo’s offer significant potential benefits, the recall highlights the ongoing challenges faced in trying to achieve fully reliable self-driving technology. 7. Kulebra and the Souls of Limbo Review (PC) Kulebra and the Souls of Limbo Review (PC) Have you ever dreamed of living as a boney snake exploring the afterlife? Then this game might be right up your alley. Kulebra and the Souls of Limbo’s release is just around the corner, and the million-dollar question is whether it is worth playing. In this review, we’ll do our best to answer that very question and give you our thoughts and opinions and this brand new release. The good There are a lot of things that I really liked about Souls of Limbo. For starters, the story was compelling and really kept me hooked throughout the whole game. The game follows the Bright Soul, Kulebra, who is new to the world of Limbo. Though he doesn’t remember anything about his past, he begins to travel all across Limbo, helping any souls that he can. While the plot is simple, it does a great job of connecting the different areas of Limbo and making your choices feel like they matter. I was always wondering what was going to happen to the various characters and was always left guessing where Kulebra’s journey would take him next. The characters really help make this game so much more memorable. Each chapter of the game has, for the most part, a brand new cast of characters. Learning each character’s story, their wants and fears, and ultimately seeing them find closure is very satisfying and really left a lasting impression on me. The characters greatly enhance the story and are definitely one of my favorite parts of the game. The gameplay, while simple, is intuitive with a plethora of mechanics that come back around time and time again. From mixing herbicides to examining different items, these different mechanics not only form the game’s core gameplay, but many also tie into the story, giving it an extra level of depth. The game also doesn’t bombard the player with tons of new mechanics at once; it teaches new mechanics bit by bit, allowing the player to get a grasp on mechanics before being taught new ones. Then, many of the mechanics are brought back later, forcing the player to test their knowledge not only of in-game events, but of the various skills that they’ve learned along the way. Kulebra and the Souls of Limbo’s best attribute, in my opinion, is it’s art style. It is phenomenal. You can clearly see the inspiration taken from games like Paper Mario, mixed with elements reminiscent of Day of the Dead culture. The result is an extremely unique game that stands out from other indie games. The hand-drawn designs of the different characters, combined with the cardboard panorama design of the world of Limbo, were such a treat to see. It’s easy to see the passion and creativity that was put into this game, and I hope to see more creative and unique styles in more games to come. The bad There’s not much that Souls of Limbo gets wrong, but it does have its faults. This game’s main flaw is its linearity. For most of the game, the story, and the world by extension, feel quite narrow. Most of the obstacles that players run into can only be solved one way, and a lot of times, that solution is quite obvious. This hinders the gameplay a lot of the time and kills the game’s challenge for the most part. This also means that the player lacks any real agency, which is a shame. If certain puzzles had more than one solution and if the game had more diverging storylines, it would really help flesh out the world and allow players to use their creativity, giving the gameplay more of an edge. This does sort of happen starting from Chapter 4, but I wish we could see more diverging plotlines in the earlier chapters Because of this linearity, this game isn’t that replayable. For the most part, players will know what happens in the story and how to solve all the puzzles in the game, which doesn’t really give them any reason to go back and replay the game. There are some exceptions, and the different collectables and side quests do help remedy this problem, but overall, it still doesn’t give the game the replay value for players to keep coming back. Final thoughts Kulebra and the Souls of Limbo is an extremely unique game that has an interesting premise, memorable characters, and a wonderfully expressive art style. While the game might be a little more linear in nature, the story and the characters found throughout Limbo really helps this game stand out amidst a sea of up and coming indie titles. If you’re looking for a short and sweet indie to play, you can’t go wrong with Kulebra and the Souls of Limbo. Explore the world of the dead in Kulebra and the Souls of Limbo when it releases on May 16 for Steam, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch. 8. Madeleine McCann suspect release date pushed back Madeleine McCann suspect release date pushed back Jessica Parker and Kristina Völk BBC News Reporting fromLehrte, Lower Saxony Watch: Christian Brückner was asked about the McCann case as he left court in Germany The chief suspect in Madeleine McCann’s disappearance, who is currently serving a sentence for a ***** conviction, will be released from prison in Germany later than originally scheduled, his lawyer has said. Christian Brückner, 48, was convicted of raping a 72-year-old American tourist in Portugal in 2005 and had been scheduled for release in September, but this has now been pushed back to early next year. He has never been charged in the McCann case and denies any involvement in her disappearance in 2007. As he left court in Lower Saxony, Germany, he was asked by BBC News if he kidnapped and killed the three-year-old. He declined to comment. Madeleine’s disappearance during a family holiday in Praia da Luz, Portugal, is one of the most widely-reported missing child cases and remains unsolved. Brückner’s lawyer told the BBC the delayed release date was due to an unpaid fine of €1446 – which he does not believe Brückner will be able to pay. “He will probably be released round about February,” said Philipp Marquort. A prosecutor involved in the McCann case against Brückner told the BBC that a “substitute custodial sentence” due to the unpaid fine would result in imprisonment until early January. A prison official also understood Brückner’s release to be at a later date. It is understood Brückner will be released in September if the fine is paid. Brückner was at court in Lehrte to face an accusation of insulting a female prison staff member at Sehnde jail during a meeting in March 2024. For that, a judge sentenced him to one month’s probation – meaning if he breaches probation conditions upon any future release he could be made to serve another month in jail. Reuters Any further time in prison potentially gives ******* prosecutors more time to pursue an appeal in a separate case that saw Brückner cleared of three counts of ***** and two counts of child sex abuse – charges dating back to between 2000 and 2017 in Portugal. BBC News has been told that there are still no current plans to charge Brückner over Madeleine’s disappearance – in which he has denied any involvement. A convicted child sex offender, Brückner is a ******* national who has a history of sex, forgery, drug, and theft offences. A drifter, he lived in Portugal’s Algarve region, on and off, for years. ‘Laughing stock’ The meeting at Sehnde prison last March was about re-socialising Brückner, who was in solitary confinement at the time but no longer is. He was accused of calling a female officer a “Witzfigur”, or laughing stock. Witnesses who were at the meeting say Brückner was “hostile” and “aggressive.” The court heard that Brückner claimed, at the time, that he was being “tortured” and treated in an “inhumane” way. On Thursday, his lawyer also argued it was matter of freedom of speech and that the phrase “Witzfigur” could also be “positive” – if you address it to a comedian. Brückner did later pen a letter of apology, saying he must have got up on the wrong side of the bed, the court heard. However, the officer involved said she did not believe the apology was sincere. 9. Google’s iconic ‘feeling lucky’ button under threat from you-know-what Google’s iconic ‘feeling lucky’ button under threat from you-know-what Google’s “I’m Feeling Lucky” button has been a familiar part of its homepage since the launch of the search engine 27 years ago, but the company could be about to ditch it. The web giant is currently testing with select users how to integrate its AI chatbot into its homepage. One option is to replace the “lucky” button with one that reads “AI Mode.” Selecting AI Mode leads to a more conversational interaction regarding your search, eliminating the need to sift through a long list of search results. Google announced the feature earlier this month. Let’s just remind ourselves about what the I’m Feeling Lucky button does, as there’s a chance that you rarely, if ever, use it. In a nutshell, it bypasses the results on desktop search, taking you directly to the webpage that most closely matches your query. There’s not much data on how many people ever hit the “lucky” button, though back in 2007, former Google executive Marissa Mayer estimated that 1% of all Google searches went through it. But with more people searching on mobile (where the button is absent) or performing searches via the address box on desktop, it’s likely that even fewer people select the button these days. Google is also considering putting the AI Mode tab at the right end of the search box, which, if fully implemented, would allow the lucky button to live another day. It’s not the first time that the lucky button has come under threat. In 2010, the company launched Google Instant, a feature that displayed search results in real time as users typed their queries, with the aim of making searches faster and more intuitive. While the button remained in place, it was covered by the results that cascaded over it as the user typed. Google ditched Instant in 2017, with the ‘lucky’ button once again clearly visible for everyone. This time, however, the threat seems more serious. Can Google’s I’m Feeling Lucky button survive the ever-expanding tentacles of AI? Watch this space. Unlike previous entries, it embraces a semi-open-world design. Players will race across vast regions that span a variety of environments, from urban cityscapes to desert highways. Each environment has dynamic weather and time-of-day changes that add fresh challenges and visual flair to every race. Beyond the standard competitive modes, players can freely roam tracks in a new Free Roam mode, allowing casual cruising with friends or solo exploration to discover hidden shortcuts, secrets, and collectibles. Despite the various innovations, item usage and combat remain a key part of the experience, preserving the chaotic fun that fans expect. Who’s developing the game? Finally, an entry in the series where getting lost is part of the fun. | Image Credit: Nintendo As usual, Nintendo Entertainment Planning & Development Division (Nintendo EPD) is behind Mario Kart World, specifically its Production Group No. 9, the team responsible for the entire series. This group has honed the formula over decades, combining fun, accessibility, and competitive depth into every installment. Looking ahead, Nintendo’s Racing Team is expected to focus on post-launch content, likely developing various DLC packs. These expansions will probably introduce new tracks, maps, areas, and even additional characters, continuing the tradition set by Mario Kart 8. This approach has helped keep the community engaged long after launch and is almost certainly part of Nintendo’s plan to support the game with fresh content over time. Pre-order information: How much does the game cost? Mario Kart World will launch at $79.99, making it the most expensive mainline entry in the series so far. The price hike most likely reflects its scale, next-gen features, and being one of the poster titles for Switch 2. Pre-orders are live now through Nintendo and major retailers. A Switch 2 + Mario Kart World bundle is also available for $499.99. No special editions or bonus content have been announced yet, but more details are expected as the June 5 release approaches. Available platforms Unlike previous entries in the series that spanned multiple Nintendo consoles, Mario Kart World is exclusively available on the Nintendo Switch 2. This means fans will need to upgrade to the new system to experience the full open-world gameplay, improved visuals, and new features. Additionally, it is confirmed that the game will not run on the original Switch or be available on other platforms like Steam Deck or PlayStation. As with all Mario games, expect the franchise to remain a Nintendo staple for years to come. What Tracks and Modes can we expect? From red shells to road trips, the game goes open world. | Image Credit: Nintendo Mario Kart World is taking a bold leap by introducing open-world racing, in which players can drive freely across expansive, interconnected courses rather than traditional closed loops. The game features diverse tracks ranging from desert highways and urban metropolises to spooky cinemas and classic retro tracks from past Mario Kart titles. Some new courses include (shown during Direct): Mario Bros Circuit (desert highway) Crown City (urban metropolis) Salty Salty Speedway (city) Starview Peak (snow-themed) Boo Cinema (spooky-themed) Retro fan favorites like Toad’s Factory, Peach Beach, and Wario’s Galleon are also making a comeback, beautifully remastered for the Switch 2. As for the modes: Grand Prix with 24 racers per race Free Roam mode allows casual exploration off the beaten path with friends Knockout Tour, a thrilling transcontinental rally-style competition Classic Battle Mode, Time Trials, and VS Races supporting up to four teams. Players can also expect new gameplay mechanics, plus outfit unlocks tied to in-game exploration. Who are the racers? Moo Moo cows on bikes… Watch out! | Image Credit: Nintendo The roster expands to 24 characters, doubling the usual lineup and including fan favorites as well as some surprising new additions. You can race as: Mario, Luigi, Peach, Daisy, Yoshi, Bowser, Donkey Kong, and more Baby versions of classic characters like Baby Mario and Baby Peach Unique racers like Piranha Plant, Pauline, Boo, and even a Moo Moo Meadows cow Each character can be customized with different outfits, allowing players to race in style. What about Online and additional features? Mario Kart World is built with online play in mind. You can race in ranked modes, team up in dynamic cross-map challenges, or hop into casual sessions with friends. One standout addition is GameChat, the new voice chat tool that lets you talk with others, whether they’re across the room or across the globe. Additionally, new vehicle mechanics expand how you race: players can use gliders and drive on water by transforming into ski-like wheelsets. You’ll also be able to ride along walls, balance on rails for extra boosts, and charge up powerful jumps that reward timing and precision. Solo players can take advantage of a rewind option, letting them undo mistakes without altering the race for others. And instead of isolated tracks, courses are now part of a larger, interconnected world. In the end, Mario Kart World isn’t just the next entry; it’s a bold reinvention, aiming to redefine what the series can be. Whether you’re a longtime fan or a newcomer, this is the ride Nintendo wants you to buckle in for. And from the looks of it, it’s going to be one unforgettable race. 11. The Snitch: Where there’s smoke there is often fire and the case is no different with Luke Jackson The Snitch: Where there’s smoke there is often fire and the case is no different with Luke Jackson Sir Walter Scott and the Snitch have a lot in common. We both operate under a pseudonym – in the early 19th century Sir Walter was published under the interesting moniker of Jebediah Cleisbotham. Just like my old mate Wally, I have a habit of parading around my South Perth “castle” in a kilt. Mrs Snitch says I have great legs and should show them off more often. And the answer is no, in case you were wondering. But back to SWS and an often quoted line from his historical romance Marmion: A Tale of Flodden Field is: “Oh, what a tangled web we weave, when first we practice to deceive.” It’s a line that seems apt today as the “will he or won’t he” debate rages over Luke Jackson’s future at Fremantle. “Nah,” was Jackson’s response when asked by a reporter at Perth airport about whether he would leave at the end of the season. And was he happy in Perth? “Love it.” It should be pointed out he was standing next to his coach, Justin Longmuir, at the time. Not sure what else he could say. My Snitch senses tell me Dogga, the purple unicorn, wants out. Back in March, when the story first broke that Jackson was a “watch” and that Melbourne believed he could be lured back to the fold of his 2021 premiership buddies, Jackson fronted the media and said: “It’s all rubbish, to be honest”. Fast forward to The West’s exclusive this week and the predictable suite of denials followed. This from club legend Shaun McManus: “Where there’s smoke, there’s fire .. but a lot of this stuff’s made up by the way.” Shaun is right. There is smoke, and it’s not that kind. It’s red and blue. Camera IconLuke Jackson of the Dockers walks out onto the field. Credit: Quinn Rooney/Getty Images Current Docker Jordan Clark in the same radio conversation: “Yeah I’m pretty close with Luke and he’s out. Haha, just kidding. I’m good mates with Luke and as Shaun touched on a lot of it is made up. Someone makes a rumour up here, or someone throws a story out there like this and people get a hold of it and all of a sudden it’s beat up.” May I remind them all of a Tom Barrass press conference last year at Mineral Resources Park. “I don’t read the media, or the social media – I normally find out when I’m sitting in front of you guys,” Barrass responded to questions about rumours of him leaving West Coast. “It happens every year, and it’s hardly a story; AFL clubs chasing established key position players, it’s just the currency of football, so I wouldn’t be reading into it too much. “I’m a West Coast Eagles player, and unless the rug gets pulled out from under my feet, I’ll stay that way; I am really excited about what we are doing here, (and) I am really excited about some of the talent.” Whether it was a pulled rug or a magic carpet ride, time will tell. But the fact is he’s now Tom-a-Hawk. And this from Port Adelaide defender Dan Houston last year: “I am contracted and I absolutely love the footy club, I love being in Adelaide,” Houston told Adelaide radio station 5AA. “I am not leaving next year. “I am contracted, I wouldn’t have signed the contract if I wasn’t keen on Adelaide and keen on Port Adelaide and I love the place, I love the footy club and the footy club have been good to me.” Yes, you guessed right, Houston is now a Magpie. And so, what are we to believe? The truth is anything is possible. It seems apt, to bow out, with my favourite unicorn poem. In honour of Luke of course and the truth. In sacred forest’s fields afar Where law forbids the hunting of The unicorn, who’s fleet-of-hoof With power to divine the truth Can pierce the heart of liar’s proof With ***** that spirals from his head That’s borne of sage and snowy crest And bows to those who honour him. 12. Roblox creators can now sell physical merch in-game Roblox creators can now sell physical merch in-game Purchasing in-game items is nothing new to Roblox, but now users can shop for actual physical merch and receive an avatar item on top of it. Eligible creators can bundle digital items with physical purchases, according to Roblox’s announcement, and it opens up more avenues for creators to generate revenue in-game. “Our vision for the future of shopping is an experience that’s more exciting and social than the traditional online shopping experience. On Roblox, you can explore virtual stores, try on clothes, and share the experience with others,” the post reads. “This naturally builds interest and purchase intent. Now we’re taking it one step further, bridging the gap between virtual and real-world shopping by enabling Roblox users to purchase physical items.” Roblox is a powerhouse of popular titles, many of which eclipse the top-played games on Steam. For example, Brookhaven RP has been favorited more than 23 million times, with more than 477,000 active players at the time of writing. Roblox reports that one of its creator studios, Twin Atlas, made more than six figures in the first few weeks of using the commerce platform. The potential for large earnings is there, especially with the more popular games on the platform. Roblox Players can browse real-world items, trying them on virtually to check how they look before deciding whether to purchase them or not. According to a 2023 survey, many shoppers — Gen Z in particular — are more likely to purchase an item after trying it on virtually. Roblox has partnered with Shopify, but it calls the platform its “first” integration partner, suggesting more are in the pipeline. Even larger, well-known brands are leaping aboard, with companies like Fenty Beauty utilizing the Roblox commerce platform. The Weeknd is also offering a ticket for his upcoming film, paired with a digital in-game item. Anyone interested in utilizing this platform must meet the requirements to become an eligible creator, which include verifying your ID, having a Roblox Premium subscription, and following Roblox’s Community Standards. It joins several other programs that creators can use to generate real-world revenue from Roblox users, including the Creator Affiliate Pilot Program and selling avatar items and games. 13. A foldable screen laptop to rival the ThinkPad X1 Fold is set to launch soon A foldable screen laptop to rival the ThinkPad X1 Fold is set to launch soon Huawei’s upcoming event is set to debut its Nova 14 series of smartphones, but it’s also unveiling the Huawei MateBook Fold Ultimate Design, a laptop with a foldable screen similar to the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Fold or the Asus Zenbook 17 Fold. The news comes from the Huawei Terminal account on Weibo, and the event will be held on May 19 at 2:30 PM CST. The machine is being made in collaboration with Hongmeng Computers. Unfortunately, Huawei remained tight-lipped about further details, but given that the event is in four days, it makes sense. The MateBook Fold Ultimate Design isn’t the first laptop to hit the market with a foldable screen, and we can glean some idea of how it will likely operate based on existing models. The teaser image doesn’t reveal much detail, showing only a side profile and the front of the device in what looks like a screen cover. The fold seems to be around the center point of the device. If it’s anything like the ThinkPad X1 Fold, the MateBook Fold won’t have a keyboard built-in and will instead be more akin to a large tablet. Huawei Most likely, the MateBook Fold will use a Bluetooth keyboard, although it might also have an on-screen keyboard. There is also a possibility that the laptop can be folded, with the Bluetooth keyboard placed atop the lower section, sacrificing screen space for a more compact size. This is just an educated guess based on similar devices on the market, so exercising a certain amount of skepticism is recommended. We’ll find out more on May 19, when the laptop will be shown alongside the next wave of smartphones and the recently-revealed HarmonyOS. Until then, other aspects of the machine, including its specs, are anyone’s guess — but we hope it folds into a more compact shape for easy transport, taking cues from the Asus Zenbook Fold 17. 14. Portugal far-right leader suffers second collapse days before election Portugal far-right leader suffers second collapse days before election LISBON (Reuters) -The leader of Portugal’s far-right party Chega collapsed on Thursday during an open-air campaign rally ahead of Sunday’s general election and was rushed to hospital, two days after suffering a similar incident at another party event. In videos from the rally in Odemira in southern Portugal that circulated online, Andre Ventura, 42, could be seen grabbing his chest and trying to undo his tie before collapsing into the arms of his aides who carried him away. Hospital clinical director Jose Sousa e Costa said Ventura was in a stable condition and although there was currently no indication he was suffering from a heart problem, further medical exams were required. Ventura will be transferred to another hospital in Setubal, near Lisbon, to undergo a medical procedure. Ventura was discharged from hospital in Faro only on Wednesday after his previous collapse. The hospital said he had an esophageal spasm caused by gastric reflux and high blood pressure. Chega lawmaker Marta Silva told CNN Portugal the electrocardiogram in an ambulance immediately after the second collapse showed that “everything is well with his heart” and it was likely another spasm. Ventura founded the anti-establishment Chega in 2019, advocating tougher sentences for criminals, calling for an end to Portugal’s “open doors” immigration policy and accusing the mainstream political parties of perpetuating corruption. Chega became the third-largest parliamentary force in 2022 and quadrupled its parliamentary seats last year to 50 after running on a platform of fighting corruption and immigration. Most analysts say the party is a one-man show, owing its success to Ventura’s fiery eloquence, charisma and good looks. Ahead of Sunday’s election, opinion polls show Chega in third place, little changed from its 2024 result of 18%, its meteoric rise apparently stalled by recent scandals involving several senior party members. 20. Marcus Rashford: Forward believes Manchester United would be prepared to sell him for £40m Marcus Rashford: Forward believes Manchester United would be prepared to sell him for £40m The simple truth is if Rashford sticks to his guns over his wages – and his United contract does not run out until 2028, very few clubs in the world could afford him. It means United have to offer an incentive to negotiate a *****, through a reduced fee or offering to pay a portion of his wages or both. United sources previously said Villa would end up covering between 75% and 90% of Rashford’s salary depending on performances. Villa reportedly turned down a £60m bid for their England forward Ollie Watkins from Arsenal in January and Emery subsequently picked Rashford ahead of Watkins for the club’s biggest games. Rashford had harboured hopes of a move to Barcelona in January but no deal materialised. Ideally, he would prefer to play for a club who are in the Champions League next season. It is not clear whether Liverpool or Manchester City would be interested, or whether the player would be prepared to join United’s fiercest rivals. In addition, it is not certain whether Rashford would be inclined to stay at United should they lose next week’s Europa League final, and with Amorim’s future coming under more severe scrutiny than is currently the case. Either way, another loan deal rather than a straight transfer cannot be ruled out. An obvious comparison is Joao Felix, who became the fifth most expensive player in history when he joined Atletico Madrid from Benfica for 126m euros (£113m) in 2019, but then fell out with coach Diego Simeone and spent 18 months on loan, first at Chelsea, then Barcelona. Portugal forward Felix joined Chelsea permanently for £45m last summer as England midfielder Conor Gallagher went the other way. Despite signing a seven-year contract with the Blues, the 25-year-old started just three Premier League games before joining AC Milan on loan in February. 21. Interview: EVE Online Veterans Give Advice to New Players Interview: EVE Online Veterans Give Advice to New Players marywilliam354430m ago HIRE CRYPTO RECOVERY EXPERT FROM PRO WIZARD GILBERT RECOVERY A few months ago, I became a victim of a crypto scam that cost me more than $42,000. It started with what looked like a legitimate investment opportunity on social media. The platform was well-designed, the “advisors” sounded experienced, and the returns they promised seemed realistic at the time. I did some quick research, saw fake positive reviews, and decided to give it a try.At first, everything seemed to go smoothly. I deposited small amounts and saw returns in my account almost immediately. Encouraged, I added more—until I realized I could no longer withdraw anything. The site shut down, the contact numbers went dead, and the people I had spoken to disappeared. That’s when it hit me—I had been scammed.I was embarrassed, angry, and honestly, heartbroken. I didn’t think there was any way to get the money back. My bank couldn’t help, the police didn’t have any tools for crypto tracing, and I felt completely stuck. Then, a friend referred me to PRO WIZARD GILBERT RECOVERY. I was hesitant at first, but after speaking with one of their recovery specialists, I felt a sense of hope I hadn’t felt in weeks. They were incredibly professional, didn’t make any exaggerated claims, and explained their process clearly. The team began working right away using advanced blockchain forensics to trace the stolen funds. Within a few days, they located the wallets that received my funds and started the legal steps necessary to flag and recover the crypto. I was blown away by how thorough and efficient they were After several weeks of careful investigation and coordination, PRO WIZARD GILBERT RECOVERY successfully recovered nearly 75% of my lost funds. I couldn’t believe it. I went from thinking that money was gone forever to having it returned to me—and all thanks to their dedication and expertise. If you’ve lost money to a crypto scam, I can’t recommend PRO WIZARD GILBERT RECOVERY enough. They’re the real deal. Professional, honest, and relentless in fighting for their clients. Thanks to them, I’ve not only recovered most of what I lost, but I’ve also regained peace of mind. Man Arrested After Being Found With A Stolen Pokemon Card Haul Worth Over $300,000 Man Arrested After Being Found With A Stolen Pokemon Card Haul Worth Over $300,000 In the past few years, the demand for Pokemon cards–like most collectible cards–has skyrocketed, as has the rise of scalpers and theft. In most instances with these massive stolen hauls, they’re recovered and the suspect arrested, much like a recent story of a man in the *** getting caught with a stolen cache of cards worth £250,000 (approx. $332,500). The stolen haul was discovered after Greater Manchester Police raided a home in Hyde, Tameside, which is on the outskirts of Greater Manchester.
