On Tuesday, South Carolina’s Nancy Mace said her resolution was “absolutely” a response to the election of Sarah McBride, who will be sworn into office in January. McBride called the move “a blatant attempt from far-right-wing extremists to distract from the fact that they have no real solutions to what Americans are facing”. Republicans campaigned heavily on opposing transgender rights during the election. At a closing rally, Donald Trump said he would keep “transgender insanity the ***** out of our schools… and men out of women’s sports”. The resolution introduced on Monday does not specifically mention McBride, but Mace told reporters on Tuesday, that “it’s 100 percent because of McBride”, according to the Washington Post. “This is about women and our right to privacy, our right to safety,” Mace said. “I’m not going to allow biological men into women’s private spaces. It is the height of hypocrisy.” On Monday, McBride responded to the measure, posting on X: “Every day Americans go to work with people who have life journeys different than their own and engage with them respectfully, I hope members of Congress can muster that same kindness.” House Democrats strongly condemned the resolution and accused Mace of bullying a fellow member of Congress. “This is your priority, that you want to bully a member of Congress, as opposed to welcoming her to join this body so all of us can work together to get things done and deliver real results for the ********* people?” Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries said. Mike Blake | Reuters Comcast is moving forward with the spinoff of its cable network channels, people familiar with the matter told CNBC on Tuesday. The separation is expected to take about a year, and an announcement from the company could come as early as Wednesday, the people said. The new entity will be led by Mark Lazarus, the current chairman of NBCUniversal’s media group, one of the people said. NBCUniversal’s Chief Financial Officer Anand Kini, will serve as the CFO and operating chief of the new entity, the person said. Comcast Chairman and CEO Brian Roberts will maintain a voting position in the company, but will not serve as an officer or on the board of directors, the person added. By separating the cable networks, it will give them the optionality to merge with other networks, or potentially be sold to private equity, one of the people said. The spinoff will be tax free and the share structure of the new entity will mirror that of Comcast’s, according to the person. At NBCUniversal, Donna Langley, the current chief content officer, will become chairman of NBCUniversal Entertainment and Studios, while Matt Strauss, the current head of the direct-to-consumer unit, will be chairman of NBCUniversal Media Group, overseeing sports, ad sales and distribution, the person said. Cesar Conde will remain as NBCUniversal News Group’s chairman, including oversight of NBC News Group, while Executive Vice President Adam Miller will become NBCUniversal’s Chief Operating Officer, they said. The company had announced during its quarterly earnings call in October it was considering a split of the cable networks. Comcast President Mike Cavanagh had said the company was exploring creating “a new, well-capitalized company owned by our shareholders and comprised of our strong portfolio of cable networks.” Comcast is moving forward with the decision as millions of customers exit the traditional pay TV bundle in favor of streaming. The company has been beefing up NBCUniversal’s streaming platform Peacock in recent years. Comcast shares were up more than 2% in after hours trading. The networks that are part of the spinoff also include E!, Syfy, Golf Channel, USA and Oxygen, a person close to the matter said. Bravo will remain part of Comcast’s NBCUniversal since its content is heavily featured on Peacock, one of the people said. Cavanagh had said in October that NBCUniversal’s broadcast network NBC and Peacock would remain with Comcast. Although cord cutting has impacted the business, traditional TV networks remain cash cows for media businesses. Comcast reported in October that third quarter revenue for its media segment, which is mainly comprised of the TV networks, was up nearly 37% to $8.23 billion, largely due to the Olympics. Without the Summer Games, revenue was up almost 5%. The spinoff will take roughly a year as the company figures out whether licensing agreements need to be put in place, and whether MSNBC and CNBC will continue to work with NBC News, two of the people said. The climb beat expectations of a 2.2% rise from economists polled by Reuters, and is a reversal from the 1.7% fall in September. Government data showed that ********* exports increased the most to the Middle East region, recording a 35.4% rise, compared to the same ******* a year ago. Imports to Asia’s second largest economy by GDP rose 0.4%, compared to expectations of a 0.3% fall from the Reuters poll. As such, Japan’s trade deficit expanded to 461.2 billion yen ($2.98 billion), wider than the Reuters poll expectations of 360.4 billion and compared to September’s revised figure of 294.1 billion yen. In a Nov. 19 note, Daniel Hurley, who is global equities portfolio specialist at T. Rowe Price, said that the key area to monitor for Japan equities would be U.S. President-elect Donald Trump’s plans for tariffs and trade relationships with partners. Tariffs are clearly the biggest risk for an open and exporting economy like Japan’s, he said, while also pointing out that the country has a very close relationship with the U.S., and Trump in particular. Jakub Porzycki | Nurphoto | Getty Images CVS Health, UnitedHealth Group and Cigna sued the Federal Trade Commission on Tuesday, claiming that the agency’s case against ***** supply chain middlemen over high insulin prices in the U.S. is unconstitutional. The complaint, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri, is the latest move in a bitter legal ****** between the three largest pharmacy benefit managers, or PBMs, in the U.S. and the FTC. The FTC in September sued CVS’s Caremark, Cigna’s Express Scripts and UnitedHealth’s Optum Rx in the agency’s administrative court, accusing those PBMs and other ***** middlemen of using a “perverse” rebate system to boost their profits while inflating insulin costs for Americans. The FTC’s in-house administrative process initiates a proceeding before an administrative judge who would hear the case. FTC commissioners then vote on that opinion. The Tuesday complaint argues that the FTC’s process violates the companies’ due process rights under the Fifth Amendment. The companies also allege that the FTC’s claims involve private rights that must be litigated in federal court rather than in the agency’s in-house administrative court. The companies called that process “fundamentally unfair,” noting that commissioners and an administrative law judge are “unconstitutionally insulated from removal by the President and thus are insulated from democratic accountability.” “This sweeping attempt to reshape an entire industry via law enforcement would never pass muster in a US district court,” the complaint said. In a statement Tuesday, FTC spokesperson Douglas Farrar said “it has become fashionable for corporate giants to argue that a 110-year-old federal agency is unconstitutional to distract from business practices that we allege, in the case of PBMS, harm ***** patients by forcing them to pay huge sums for life saving medicine. It will not work.” PBMs sit at the center of the ***** supply chain in the U.S. They negotiate rebates with ***** manufacturers on behalf of health plans, reimburse pharmacies for prescriptions and create lists of medications covered by insurance. The complaint comes a month after CVS, UnitedHealth Group and Cigna demanded FTC Chair Lina Khan and two other commissioners recuse themselves from the agency’s in-house suit. In separate motions, the companies argued that all three commissioners have an extensive track record of making public statements that indicate allegedly serious bias against the PBMs. Caremark, Express Scripts and Optum Rx are all owned by or connected to health insurers and collectively administer about 80% of the nation’s prescriptions, according to the FTC. However, if you have the counter space, it could be the best air fryer to invest in especially if you cook for a large family. While that’s still at least $30 more than our main budget pick, Ninja’s machine more than doubles the capacity and adds a handy dehydrate preset for anyone that likes to make their own fruit or veggie chips. Some will appreciate the slightly raised buttons on Ninja’s air fryer for providing a bit more tactile feedback when adjusting cooking time and temperatures, and the fact that it’s tall rather than wide, taking advantage of likely unused vertical space in between your counter and cabinets. The biggest issue for me with this Ninja air fryer was its pod shape. Convection ovens are usually ovens with air fryer functions and features. They might have higher temperature settings to ensure that food crisps and cooks more like actually fried food. Most convection ovens are larger than dedicated air fryers, defeating some of the purpose of those looking to shrink cooking appliance surface area. Still, they are often more versatile with multiple cooking functions, and most have finer controls for temperatures, timings and even fan speed. You may never need a built-in oven if you have a decent convection oven. They often have the volume to handle roasts, entire chickens or tray bakes, and simply cook more, capacity-wise, making them more versatile than the pod-shaped competition. The flip side of that is that you’ll need counter space in the kitchen to house them. It also means you can use traditional oven accessories, like baking trays or cake tins, that you might already own. Pod-shaped air fryers Pod-shaped air fryers are what you imagine when you think “air fryer.” They look like a cool, space-age kitchen gadget, ******* than a kettle but smaller than a toaster oven. Many use a drawer to hold ingredients while cooking, usually a mesh sheet or a more solid, non-stick tray with holes to allow the hot air to circulate. With a few exceptions, most require you to open the drawer while things cook and flip or shake half-cooked items to ensure the even distribution of heat and airflow to everything. That’s one of a few caveats. Most pod-shaped air fryers – there are a few exceptions – don’t have a window to see how things are cooking, so you’ll need to closely scrutinize things as they cook, opening the device to check progress. Basket-style air fryers also generally use less energy – there’s less space to heat – and many have parts that can be put directly into a dishwasher. Some of the larger pod-shaped air fryers offer two separate compartments, which is especially useful for anyone planning to cook an entire meal with the appliance. You could cook a couple of tasty chicken wings or tenders while simultaneously rustling up enough frozen fries or veggies for everyone. This is not a TARDIS – there’s simply less space than most traditional ovens and many deep **** fryers. Tongs are ideal, as is a silicon spatula to gently loosen food that might get stuck on the sides of the air fryer. These silicone mats will also help stop things from sticking to the wire racks on some air fryers. They have holes to ensure the heated air is still able to circulate around the food. Silicone trivets are also useful for resting any cooked food on while you sort out the rest of the meal. And if you find yourself needing oil spray, but don’t feel like repeatedly buying tiny bottles, you can decant your favorite vegetable oil into a permanent mister like this. How to clean an air fryer We’re keeping clean up simple here. Yes, you could use power cleaners from the grocery store, they could damage the surface of your air fryer. Likewise, metal scourers or brushes could strip away the non-stick coating. Remember to unplug the device and let it cool completely. Remove the trays, baskets and everything else from inside. If the manufacturer says the parts are dishwasher safe – and you have a dishwasher – the job is pretty much done. Otherwise, hand wash each part in a mixture of warm water, with a splash of Dawn or another strong dish soap. Use a soft-bristled brush to pull away any crumbs, greasy deposits or bits of food stuck to any surfaces. Remember to rinse everything. Otherwise, your next batch of wings could have a mild Dawn aftertaste. Trust us. Take a microfiber cloth and tackle the outer parts and handles that might also get a little messy after repeated uses. This is especially useful for oven-style air fryers – use the cloth to wipe down the inner sides. If Dawn isn’t shifting oily stains, try mixing a small amount of baking soda with enough water to make a paste, and apply that so that it doesn’t seep into any electrical parts or the heating element. Leave it to work for a few seconds before using a damp cloth to pull any greasy spots away. Rinse out the cloth and wipe everything down again, and you should be ready for the next time you need to air fry. Many of the top recipe sites and portals have no shortage of air fryer recipes, and there’s no harm in googling your favorite cuisine and adding the words “air fryer” on the end of the search string. We’ve picked up some reliable options from Delish, which also has a handy air fryer time converter for changing oven and traditional fryer recipes. As part of its rebrand, Jaguar revealed a brand new logo on Tuesday, alongside a new prancing “leaper” cat design and marketing slogans such as “delete ordinary”. Jaguar, which has sites around the country including in Warwickshire, Coventry, Solihull and Castle Bromwich, announced its transition to electric vehicles in 2021. It’s also inspired by Ghibli movies and features a former Ghibli artist on the development team. But it uses those major touchstones to present its big idea: a survival-crafting game that operates in reverse. Most games of this sort–tree-punchers, I affectionately call them–task players with tearing down a local ecosystem to convert flora and fauna into homes and meals, eventually wiping out the natural landscape in favor of something that may be beautiful in its own way, but definitely paves over the world that was once on display. Towers of Aghasba does ask you to pick apart some local resources to improve your own conditions, like making tools from trees and stones early on, but it’s all done in service of nature, as you restore a brownish, barren landscape to a lush, healthy world full of critters and immaculate natural landmarks. In that way, it’s almost like Spore, too, as you bring life to what is essentially a blank slate when you arrive. Amidst this chaos and as millions crossed borders, religious ********* spread with Hindus and Sikhs on one side, and Muslims on the other. India’s 16-member cricket squad – selected months earlier – also had to deal with both personal and national turmoil as they readied themselves for a landmark series. Anthony De Mello, the president of Board of Control for Cricket in India, announced the team with a backdrop of a map of undivided India, proclaiming that the team would represent all of India. Until then, the Indian cricket team – known as “All India” – had only toured three times for official Test matches to England between 1932 and 1946, losing the series on every occasion. But in 1946 future *********** captain Lindsay Hassett brought an *********** Services team to India to celebrate the Allies’ victory in World War Two. India won the unofficial series of three matches 1-0 and Hassett reported back to the *********** cricket authorities that the Indians were worthy of an official Test series. Getty Images The partition of India sparked one of history’s largest migrations Excitement and anticipation ran high in Indian cricket circles as the team was expected to face the mighty Australians, led by legendary batsman Donald Bradman. His team was later dubbed “Bradman’s Invincibles” after returning undefeated from England in 1948. De Mello’s India squad was led by ace opening batsman Vijay Merchant, with his reliable partner Mushtaq Ali serving as deputy. Both had been exceptional on the English tours of 1936 and 1946, cementing their leadership roles. The squad also boasted elegant batter Rusi Modi and promising debutant fast bowler Fazal Mahmood, adding a dynamic mix of experience and fresh talent. But both Merchant and Modi withdrew from the tour on medical grounds. Ali also withdrew following the ****** of his elder brother, leaving him with family responsibilities. As a result, Lala Amarnath was announced as the new captain and Vijay Hazare his deputy. However, the ********* that erupted following partition nearly prevented Amarnath from reaching Australia. According to a 2004 biography by his son Rajender Amarnath, Lala Amarnath narrowly escaped a sectarian mob in Patiala in Indian Punjab. His home in Lahore, now in Pakistan, along with its priceless artefacts, was lost forever. He also encountered danger during a train journey to Delhi. At a station in Indian Punjab, a police official recognised Amarnath and gave him a kada – a steel bangle worn by Sikhs and many Hindus as a religious symbol. Later, a mob at the station spared the cricketer because of the kada – it probably led them to believe he shared their ******. On the other side of the religious divide, pace bowler Mahmood found himself facing a deadly mob on a train. The team had scheduled two weeks of training in Pune (then Poona) from 15 August – though it was not known then, that was the day India was partitioned. Gulu Ezekiel Writer Gulu Ezekiel with Lala Amarnath, the captain of India team that toured Australia in 1947-48 Despite restrictions, Mahmood reached Poona for the training camp. Afterwards, he travelled to Bombay (now Mumbai) en route to Lahore. He writes in his 2003 autobiography that on the train, two men threatened him, but former Indian captain CK Nayudu intervened, bat in hand, and warned them off. Once he reached curfew-bound Lahore, Mahmood was horrified by the bloodshed he witnessed there and decided to stay back in Pakistan and not tour Australia. He later became part of the Pakistani cricket team and made his Test debut in 1952-53 against India. Two other members of India’s squad for the Australia tour – Gul Mohammad and Amir Elahi – also later moved to Pakistan and played against India in the 1952-53 series. Despite these setbacks, India’s tour went ahead, though a weakened India faced Australia without four of its leading players and lost the series 4-0. The two countries now play each other almost every two years. The miracle, however, is that the inaugural tour of 1947-48 happened at all, given the tumult at home. But now, with just a year until the next major installment in the Battlefield universe set to release, EA and DICE have a lot of making up to do. Officially, EA has said all of the usual buzzwords you’d come to expect in its financial calls to promote the next game from “innovation” to “groundbreaking.” An interview with IGN earlier this year with head honcho Vince Zempella confirmed Insider Gaming’s past reports that the franchise was taking a “back to its roots approach” with 64 players, all-out destruction, and a modern setting. It all looks promising on paper, yet the scars of the past still ***** today with its community, and fans of the franchise are still apprehensive about the future. Considering the franchise’s last two blunders, it’s understandable, but this time, EA and DICE seem to be all-in on ensuring it doesn’t happen a third time. HELP INSIDER GAMING: Take Our 2024 Reader Survey On a funding front, the next Battlefield has the most resources in the franchise’s history. Four studios are currently working on Battlefield: DICE, Motive, Criterion Games, and Ripple Effect. More importantly, EA and its studios seem more interested in gaining player feedback this time around. Of course, it’s not uncommon for games to have playtests during development. Almost every game has them at one point or another, but this time around, things are a lot different. Sources say that playtests with external players are happening much more frequently than in past installments, and the amount of data and feedback collected is the most the franchise has seen in its history. From small feedback sessions to large-scale player tests, Battlefield is now taking the much-needed “player first” approach. It’s an approach that we’ll see continued to be played out coming to the start of the year, too, as it’s understood that EA and its studios have been eying up the return of the Battlefield Community Test Environment, but to what scale that’s incorporated at this time is unclear. All in all, Battlefield seems to be trying to mend the mistakes it’s made, and with a return to a modern military shooter with destruction, four classes, and 64-player battles, EA could have a win on its hands. That being said, we’re still a year-ish from release and things can change, but so far at least, Battlefield could be back. Trump picks TV host Dr Oz to run Medicare and Medicaid Trump picks TV host Dr Oz to run Medicare and Medicaid Reuters Mehmet Oz at a rally with Donald Trump in 2022 Donald Trump has named Mehmet Oz, a doctor and former television host, to run the powerful agency that oversees the healthcare of millions of Americans. “There may be no Physician more qualified and capable than Dr. Oz to Make America Healthy Again, ” Trump said in a statement announcing his pick to lead the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. Oz trained as a surgeon before finding fame on The Oprah Winfrey Show in the early 2000s, later hosting his own TV programme. He has been criticised by experts for promoting what they called was bad health advice about weight loss drugs and “miracle” cures, and suggesting malaria drugs as a cure for Covid-19 in the early days of the pandemic. The Trump transition team said in a statement that Oz “will work closely with [Health Secretary nominee] Robert F Kennedy Jr to take on the illness industrial complex, and all the horrible chronic ********* left in its wake”. Oz will need to be confirmed by the Senate next year before he officially takes charge of the agency. The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services oversee the country’s largest healthcare programs, providing coverage to more than 150 million Americans. The agency regulates health insurance and sets policy that guides the prices that doctors, hospitals and ***** companies are paid for medical services. In 2023, the US government spent more than $1.4 trillion on Medicaid and Medicare combined, according to the Congressional Budget Office. Trump said in a statement that Oz would “cut waste and ****** within our Country’s most expensive Government Agency”, and the *********** Party platform pledged to increase transparency, choice and competition and expand access to healthcare and prescription drugs. Oz, 64, trained as a cardiothoracic surgeon – specialising in operations on the heart and lungs – and worked at New York City’s Presbyterian Hospital and Columbia University. After he appeared in dozens of Oprah segments, he started The Dr Oz Show, where he doled out health advice to viewers. But the line between promotion and science on the show was not always clear, and Oz has recommended homeopathy, alternative medicine and other treatments that critics have called “pseudoscience”. He was criticised during Senate hearings in 2014 for endorsing unproven pills that he said would “literally flush **** from your system” and “push **** from your belly”. During those hearings Oz said he never sold any specific dietary supplements on his show. But he has publicly endorsed products off air and his financial ties to health care companies were revealed in fillings made during his 2022 run for the US Senate in Pennsylvania. During the Covid-19 pandemic, Oz promoted the anti-malaria drugs hydroxychloroquine and chloroquine, which experts say are ineffective against the virus. Another version of the game was also made available for pre-order, the Dynasty Warriors: Origins Treasure Box. This version of the game will include the base game, a unique cloth poster, the game’s soundtrack, and a book made specifically for this edition.
