  1. Path Of Exile 2 Cross-Play And Cross-Save Explained Path Of Exile 2 Cross-Play And Cross-Save Explained Path of Exile 2 is the follow-up to the highly successful RPG of the same name that was released in 2013. With the original being released over a decade ago, it’s no surprise that it’s still missing some modern features that we expect in games today. One of those features is cross-play, which has never been brought to the original Path of Exile. Fortunately, the developers at Grinding Gear Games have confirmed that Path of Exile 2 will feature cross-play support. You can learn all about how the feature works and what you need to do to access it in the guide below. How cross-play support works in Path of Exile 2 Grinding Gear Games is going in the opposite direction in Path of Exile 2 compared to the original. The upcoming sequel will feature total cross-play support. This means you’ll be able to play with any other player, regardless of the platforms you’ll be playing on. For example, if you’re on PC and you want to play with someone on Xbox One, you can easily party up with them. The same works for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S users and any other platform combination. Path of Exile 2 is being initially released on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Xbox One. However, if future platforms are added to the mix, cross-platform support will likely include those platforms, as well. Path of Exile 2 launches in early access on December 6. When you find a friend you want to play with, all you have to do is add them in Path of Exile 2 through their username. If the friend is on the same platform as you, they can join you through your system’s friends list, in addition to the game’s friends list. Once your friend is added, you can invite them to your party, or you can join theirs. Path of Exile 2 supports up to six players per party. Cross-play support in Path of Exile 2 also means trading can be done across different platforms. So you don’t have to worry about another player being on a different platform if you want to trade an item with them. Is there cross-save progression in Path of Exile 2? While cross-play support is terrific, what about cross-save support, also known as cross-progression? This is another feature that Grinding Gear Games has confirmed will be included in Path of Exile 2 during its early access launch. Cross-progression support means players can log into their Path of Exile 2 account on any platform and keep all of their saved data. For example, if you mainly play on PlayStation 5 but need to swap over to PC, you can do so without having to worry about losing your account’s progress. Path of Exile 2 is set to hit early access on December 6, but if you’re looking for something to play sooner, check out our gallery of November’s biggest games. 2. Marcos says Indonesia has agreed to send ********* ******-row ***** convict back to the Philippines Marcos says Indonesia has agreed to send ********* ******-row ***** convict back to the Philippines MANILA, Philippines (AP) — Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. said Wednesday that a deal has been reached for Indonesia to send back a ********* ******-row ***** convict, who was nearly ********* by ******* squad but got a reprieve due to years of pleadings from Manila. Marcos thanked Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and his government for granting a longstanding Philippine request for Mary Jane Veloso to be brought back home to serve her sentence in her country. “Mary Jane Veloso is coming home,” Marcos said in a statement. “Arrested in 2010 on ***** trafficking charges and sentenced to ******, Mary Jane’s case has been a long and difficult journey.” It was not immediately clear when Veloso would be transported to the Philippines, but Marcos said he looked forward to welcoming her home. In Jakarta, Indonesia, Evi Loliancy, the chief of Yogyakarta’s female prison, told The Associated Press that there was still no request or order for Veloso’s release. “She will still be under our supervision at the Yogyakarta Correctional Institution until there is a specific order regarding her transfer from the High Prosecutors’ Office,” she said. The decision, Marcos said, “is a reflection of the depth our nation’s partnership with Indonesia — ******* in a shared commitment to justice and compassion.” Details of the agreement were not immediately disclosed but if Veloso’s transfer proceeds, it would remove the possibility of her facing an ********** because the Philippines, Asia’s largest Roman ********* nation, has long abolished the ****** penalty. In 2015, Indonesian authorities moved Veloso to an island prison where she and eight other ***** convicts were scheduled to be ********* by ******* squad despite objections from the convicts’ home countries, including Australia, Brazil, France, Ghana and Nigeria. Indonesia ********* the eight other ***** convicts. Veloso’s case has caused a public outcry in the Philippines, where her family and supporters contend she is innocent and was unaware that somebody had concealed the pack of ******* in her suitcase that was found when she entered Indonesia. A poor housewife, she traveled to Indonesia in 2010 where her godsister reportedly told her a job as a domestic worker awaited her. Her godsister also allegedly provided the suitcase where the prohibited drugs were found. Marcos said Veloso’s story resonated with many in the Philippines, as “a mother trapped by the grip of ********, who made one desperate choice that altered the course of her life.” “While she was held accountable under Indonesian law, she ******** a victim of her circumstances,” Marcos said. The Philippines has been a global source of manual labor, including many impoverished women who abandon their families for higher-paying jobs and better opportunities abroad. Alarming ******, especially of ********* house helpers, has prompted Philippine authorities to impose restrictions and safeguards but the exploitations have continued. 3. PS Plus Extra and Premium Is Removing More Than 10 Games In December PS Plus Extra and Premium Is Removing More Than 10 Games In December IamTylerDurden1564d ago I’m sure many would agree. I continue to reiterate the oversaturation of the Soulslike genre and imo it would be a ****** miscalculation of public ******* to transition mainline FF as the forementioned. Likely, it would be an attempt to mimic the success of From Software and ER rather than maintaining the identity of FF proper. I have no problem with a competent AAA spinoff of which Origins is not. In fact, a quality AAA Soulslike would be welcomed seeing as how virtually every game in the genre consistutes an indie to high AA standard with AAA quality and polish entirely absent outside DeS Remake. However, due to the recent success of FVII, the impending “sequel(s)” and the impressive footage of XVI i would be baffled as to why SE would decide to sabotage the wave in favor of chasing a trend. 4. Three global stocks stocks to own in 2025, according to Barclays Three global stocks stocks to own in 2025, according to Barclays The outlook for equity markets looks “decent” going into 2025, according to Barclays, as central banks cut interest rates and the global economy ******** resilient. “Given limited valuation uplift for frothy parts of the market, global equities may struggle to deliver outsized risk-adjusted returns again in 2025. But they still screen favorably vs. bonds, cash and credit,” the investment bank’s analysts wrote in a Nov. 18 research note. The bank named “overweight-rated stocks in which our analysts have high conviction in 2025 and see value in owning on an individual basis.” Here are three of Barclays’ top picks, which it gives over 35% upside potential: Shell Barclays is bullish on Shell and has a target price of £36 ($45.60) on the stock, giving it around 40% upside potential. The investment bank describes the oil and gas giant as a “compelling stock to consider for 2025 due to its strong operational momentum, robust cash flow generation, and attractive shareholder returns.” “Shell offers both value and momentum into 2025,” the analysts wrote, adding that its shares look undervalued. Going forward, they expect the company’s free cash flows to come in at $23 billion, “leaving plenty of room to pay dividends and buyback.” Shares in Shell are listed on the London Stock Exchange and trade as an ********* Depositary Receipt (ADR) in the U.S. under the ticker SHEL . AstraZeneca In the pharmaceuticals space, Barclays is ******** on AstraZeneca . “We think now is a compelling entry point in AstraZeneca, as 2025 looks set to be a year of ground- breaking catalysts,” the analysts explained. These catalysts include an $80-billion revenue target for 2030 which the company announced in May — around $10 billion higher than expected at the time. Shares in AstraZeneca are listed on the London and Stockholm Stock Exchanges and trade as an ADR in the U.S. under the ticker AZN . They are currently trading around a three-times discount to their five-year average, Barclays’ analysts said. “We see this as a very attractive valuation given that we expect Core EPS to grow.” The investment bank has a target price of £14 on AstraZeneca, implying around 41.6% upside potential. BE Semiconductor Industries Also on Barclays’ list is semiconductor equipment supplier BE Semiconductor Industries , which it says will benefit from an “industry-wide expansion into advanced packaging.” Besi is a market leader in advanced packaging, which can improve the efficiency and performance of chips. The analysts expect BeSi to have “strong growth in 2025 and a bright medium-term growth outlook” thanks to its ” dominant market position in hybrid bonding and potential to expand into thermal compression bonding.” The analysts noted that the Dutch stock is trading at a premium compared to its peers, but said this valuation was justified. Shares in BE Semiconductor Industries are listed on the Euronext Amsterdam and trade as an ADR in the U.S. under the ticker BESIY . Barclays has a target price of 160 euros ($169.50) on the Amsterdam-listed stock, giving it 44% potential upside. — CNBC’s Michael Bloom contributed to this report. 6. Hong Kong mogul Jimmy Lai testifies for first time Hong Kong mogul Jimmy Lai testifies for first time Jimmy Lai, the 76-year-old founder of the now-defunct Hong Kong tabloid Apple Daily, is taking the stand on Wednesday in a national security trial that may see him sentenced to life imprisonment. He is accused of colluding with foreign forces by using his media platform to oppose the government. This is his first time testifying in court, even though he has undergone multiple trials since 2020 – all widely seen as politically motivated. Lai is one of the most influential pro-democracy figures in the city, which has come under an increasingly severe crackdown from Beijing. His hearing on Wednesday comes one day after the sentencing of 45 pro-democracy campaigners – part of a group known as the Hong Kong 47 – in the city’s largest trial under the national security law. Lai’s ongoing trial concerns allegations that Apple Daily published articles supporting the pro-democracy protests that rocked the city in 2019, which were seen by Beijing as a threat to national stability. Lai argued on Wednesday that he opposed ********* and that advocating for Hong Kong independence was “too crazy to think about”. He said that “the core values of Apple Daily are actually the core values of the people of Hong Kong”. These values, he said, include the “rule of law, freedom, pursuit of democracy, freedom of speech, freedom of religion, freedom of assembly.” He said that he joined the media industry to “participate in delivering freedom”. He faces a sentence up to life imprisonment if convicted of collusion. Source link #Hong #Kong #mogul #Jimmy #Lai #testifies #time Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content]

Control Ultimate Edition comes to Mac computers on February 12 Control Ultimate Edition comes to Mac computers on February 12 Remedy just announced that Control Ultimate Edition on February 12, 2025. Control Ultimate Edition contains the original game, post-launch patches and season pass expansions. It hasn’t been revealed if this version will include the like the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. This information comes from the , a meeting of investors. Remedy made some other announcements during the gathering, including that it’s still working on Control 2. The game was and we haven’t heard much since that original announcement. The developer did note that the sequel would be an action RPG. This is interesting because the first Control had some RPG elements, with various ******* and ability upgrades, but I wouldn’t call it a full-fledged action RPG. Remedy owns the Control IP now, so it can do whatever it wants with the franchise. The developer made an announcement that the original Control would be receiving a free update early next year. This update will unlock “some previously released content.” It also crowed that the has sold more than 1.8 million units since launch. The sequel was Remedy’s . Finally, the developer offered some extremely vague plans to transform both Alan Wake and Control from “great games” to “world-class franchises” by 2030. 8. Comcast to spin off NBCUniversal TV networks Comcast to spin off NBCUniversal TV networks US media giant Comcast is set to spin off its NBCUniversal cable television arm, as the industry continues to struggle with the emergence of streaming giants like Netflix and Amazon Prime. The BBC understands that the plan – set to be announced on Wednesday – is to create a new company that will include channels such as MSNBC, CNBC, USA, E!, Syfy and the Golf Channel. The networks are still profitable and generated a combined revenue of $7bn (£5.5bn) in the year to the end of September. Comcast will keep NBC broadcast television network, its film and television studios and its theme parks, as well as its Peacock streaming service. Executives at Comcast believe the plan will be completed in about a year. Their expectation is that Comcast will be better placed for growth after the spinoff. The new company will have the chairman of NBCUniversal’s media group, Mark Lazarus, as its chief executive. Comcast took control of NBCUniversal in 2011 before the rise of streaming. At the time, its cable networks were seen as some of its most attractive businesses. But a growing number of cable TV viewers have been cancelling their subscriptions and moving on to streaming platforms. Comcast is the first major media company to make such a move. Earlier this year, Warner Bros and Paramount Global cut billions of dollars from the valuation of their cable TV networks earlier this year. Walt Disney has also considered spinning off its cable networks but ended up scrapping the plan. Hazard, nicknamed Haz by the video captions, fuses himself with a strange substance to gain supernatural strength, with visible spikes around his body. In addition, he has a minigun for a right arm, and a Scottish accent. Developer Activision Blizzard said there’ll be new details on Hazard and his abilities later this week. Elsewhere, Overwatch: Classic is still available in Overwatch 2 until December 2. In this mode, you can only access the original roster of 21 heroes, as well as their original abilities. 12. Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE Tipped to Launch in 2025 Alongside Flagship Foldable Model Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE Tipped to Launch in 2025 Alongside Flagship Foldable Model Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 is expected to launch next year as the successor to the Galaxy Z Flip 6, which debuted in July. However, a supply chain analyst now suggests that it will not be the only clamshell-style foldable smartphone to see the light of day and will be joined by a new model next year which could be easier on the pockets. This purported device is said to join the South Korean technology conglomerate’s flagship foldable smartphone lineup as an affordable alternative to the Galaxy Z Flip series. Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE Launch In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Ross Young, Analyst and CEO of Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC), claimed that Samsung’s new affordable foldable smartphone may be known as Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE. This device is speculated to launch in 2025 as part of the next-generation Galaxy foldables. Those hoping for a Z Flip 7 FE should be excited. It looks like a Samsung FE clamshell is finally coming in 2025. — Ross Young (@DSCCRoss) November 19, 2024 The analyst further claims that the purported clamshell-style foldable handset is likely to sport a similar display as its flagship counterpart but could differ in terms of the camera system and the processor. A previous report indicated that Samsung’s rumoured affordable foldable smartphone could feature toned-down internals to keep the costs as low as possible. During its Earnings Call for Q3 2024, the company highlighted that it was exploring “ways to lower entry barriers so that more customers can actually experience foldable products.” While specifications of the purported handset are yet to be revealed, another report suggested that the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE may be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset which also powers the Galaxy Z Flip 6 and Galaxy Z Fold 6. Other New Launches In addition to the Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE, Samsung is also speculated to be developing two entirely new models to join its existing lineups. This includes a Samsung Galaxy S25 Slim which may launch and become part of the flagship Galaxy S25 series “before and after” April 2025. Meanwhile, the company is also working on an additional Galaxy Z Fold 7 model which is rumoured to be a special edition variant, similar to the Galaxy Z Fold 6 SE which recently made its debut exclusively in South Korea. This handset is speculated to be a simultaneous release, meaning it could be yet another smartphone making its debut alongside Samsung’s seventh-generation foldables. 13. Earth’s magnetic North Pole is shifting toward Russia. What does that mean? Earth’s magnetic North Pole is shifting toward Russia. What does that mean? The Earth’s magnetic North Pole is currently moving toward Russia in a way that British scientists have not seen before. Scientists have been tracking the magnetic North Pole for centuries, telling the British newspaper The Times that it had moved closer to the northern coast of Canada. In the 1990s, it drifted into the Atlantic before moving in a faster manner toward Siberia in Russia. Compass needles in the Northern Hemisphere point toward the magnetic North Pole, although the exact location of it changes from time to time as the contours of Earth’s magnetic field also change. The magnetic North Pole is sometimes confused with the geographic North Pole, but this spot stays at the same place as it is where all lines of longitude converge. In the 300 years between 1600 and 1900, scientists estimate that the magnetic North Pole moved about six miles per year. At the beginning of this century, it picked up to about 34 miles per year, before slowing in the last five years to about 22 miles per year. Why does the North Pole’s movement matter? The moves are tracked as the data allows the compasses in our smartphones and other navigation devices to navigate. Scientists told The Times these movements are tracked by the British Geological Survey and the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. In conjunction, they make the World Magnetic Model, that predicts where the pole should be at any time. The model plays a role in the GPS systems we use on a day-to-day basis. “Planes, boats, submarines, you name it, it’s in there,” William Brown, the global geomagnetic field modeler at the British Geological Survey, said in an interview with The Times. What causes the movements? Earth’s outer core is made up of mostly molten iron, a liquid metal. Unpredictable changes in the way it flows cause the magnetic field around the Earth to shift, which then causes the magnetic core to also move. “It’s like a giant cup of tea,” Brown said to The Times. “It’s a hot liquid with the viscosity of water.” Fernando Cervantes Jr. is a trending news reporter for USA TODAY. 14. Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3: everything we know so far Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3: everything we know so far After the dramatic climax in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, fans of the Final Fantasy series have been theory-crafting and speculating on how the eventual third game would conclude this epic story. Square Enix hasn’t given us a date or title for Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 yet to give it a proper entry on our list of all upcoming video games, but that hasn’t stopped it from already becoming one of our most anticipated upcoming PlayStation 5 games along with Monster Hunter: Wilds and Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii. More and more information is starting to appear about what the last leg in Cloud’s adventure will look like, so let’s equip our best Materia and scan the internet for everything there is to know about Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3. Odds are this game won’t be on Xbox (at least at launch), but there are still plenty of great upcoming Xbox Series X games to look forward to. Release date speculation Square-Enix Square Enix hasn’t pulled the trigger on giving us a release date, or even a release window, for Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3. However, we can speculate a bit based on what the team has said about development thus far. Recently, game director Naoki Hamaguchi spoke at a G-Star panel that was reported on by 4Gamer. The key takeaway was that the game’s plot and concept are all finalized and now the team is hard at work at actually building the game. Final Fantasy 7 Remake came out in 2020 and Rebirth four years later in 2024. Without having to learn new console hardware, it is possible Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 might end up coming as early as 2027, but that would be our most optimistic guess. Platforms Square Enix Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 hasn’t been confirmed for any platforms as of now, but it is highly likely that it will follow the same pattern as the previous entries. We predict it will launch as a PlayStation exclusive before coming to PC six months to a year later. However, there is always the chance that deals will change for this game. Trailers Square Enix No footage, screenshots, or even concept art for Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 are available yet. Gameplay Square Enix Much like the refinement we saw going from Final Fantasy 7 Remake to Rebirth, we expect Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3 to evolve upon the satisfying combat the series has built thus far. There will likely be some new features, but the big addition will be our final party members of Vincent and Cid being playable. The only other concrete information we know, again from that G-Star panel, was the fact that the team intends to give us the entire world to explore with our airship with no restrictions. “We will not cheat with the airship system (in Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3), but take the challenge head-on so that it can freely fly all over the game map,” Hamaguchi stated. The only other mode of traversal not yet mentioned that was included in the original game is the submarine that let us explore below the oceans. Preorder Without a release date or window, we have no preorder information for Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3. As soon as we do, we will update this article. 15. Trump tariffs to push down U.S. growth going into 2026: Morgan Stanley Trump tariffs to push down U.S. growth going into 2026: Morgan Stanley Prices on displayed in a New York grocery store on Feb. 1, 2023. Leonardo Munoz | Corbis News | Getty Images Donald Trump’s proposed tariffs will dent U.S. economic growth going into 2026, said Morgan Stanley’s chief global economist Seth Carpenter. President-elect Trump has stated that he intends to impose a blanket tariff of 10% to 20% on all imports, along with extra tariffs ranging from 60% to 100% on goods imported from China. During the September Presidential debate, he described this approach as a means to extract funds from competing countries. There is also a question of when and how swiftly these tariffs get implemented. In the event that they are enacted all at once, they could result in a “big negative shock” to the economy, Carpenter told CNBC’s Sri Jegarajah on the sidelines of Morgan Stanley’s annual Asia Pacific Summit in Singapore. Carpenter, who maintained Morgan Stanley’s base case of these tariffs being spread over 2025, said they would lead to higher inflation. “Then into 2026, we think growth starts to come down a great deal in the U.S. because of those tariffs and some of the other policies,” he cautioned. “Very clear, tariffs push up inflation. Very clear, tariffs are a drag on growth for the U.S., not just for the countries that the tariffs are put on,” Carpenter added. Mark Malek, CIO at brokerage firm Siebert noted that if the proposed tariffs are levied, especially on top of those already imposed by the Joe Biden administration, a slew of sectors including the automobile, consumer electronics, machinery, construction and retail space would see higher inflation. Trump’s proposed 60% tariff on ******** goods, along with Biden’s existing 100% tariff on ********-made EVs, will “significantly impact” the auto industry, while a universal 10% tariff on consumer electronics’ imports would increase costs for companies such as Tesla, Microsoft and Apple, Malek said. These higher costs will will likely be passed along to consumers, he added. Though the U.S. consumer price index climbed 2.6% in October compared to a year ago, slightly more than September’s 2.4%, inflation has ebbed in the U.S. after years, and has prompted the U.S. Federal Reserve to cut rates. Should sweeping tariffs be enacted, markets could price out interest rate cuts entirely for 2025, said Ben Emons, chief investment officer and founder of FedWatch Advisors, adding that tariffs could also “restrain” growth. Before she joined the first Trump administration, McMahon served on the Connecticut State Board of Education in 2009, before she resigned to make unsuccessful bids in 2010 and 2012 for U.S. Senate seats in the state. CNN first reported on McMahon as Trump’s pick for education secretary. McMahon was one of Trump’s top donors during the 2024 campaign — contributing more than $20 million to the Make America Great Again Inc. super PAC, as well as $937,800 to his campaign and affiliated ****** fundraising committees. McMahon, 76, is married to former World Wrestling Entertainment CEO Vince McMahon. The Education Department has a budget of $241.6 billion and consists of roughly 13,000 workers, according to data from the Office of Personnel Management. Trump has said he plans to sign an executive order that would strip federal funding “from any school pushing critical race theory, transgender insanity, and other inappropriate *******, ******* or political content onto the shoulders of our children.” McMahon has criticized diversity, equity and inclusion programs, writing in an op-ed published by Fox News this year that DEI provisions were “irrelevant to training skilled workers” and that such policies “add costs and administrative burdens to all apprenticeship programs.” On Tuesday, McMahon joined Trump and Elon Musk, who was named as a co-chair of a new “Department of Government Efficiency,” at the SpaceX Starship launch in Texas. McMahon is chair of the board at the America First Policy Institute, a ************* think tank she launched with other former Trump administration officials in 2021. Trump has said he plans to nominate others affiliated with the organization, including former Rep. Doug Collins of Georgia for veteran affairs secretary and former Rep. Lee Zeldin of New York to lead the Environmental Protection Agency. McMahon is also the latest Cabinet pick from Trump’s transition team. Earlier Tuesday he named Cantor Fitzgerald CEO Howard Lutnick, who is co-chairing his transition alongside McMahon, as his choice for commerce secretary. 20. The Game Awards 2024: Here’s the complete list of nominees The Game Awards 2024: Here’s the complete list of nominees Team Asobi The Game Awards announced its nominees for its 2024 show on Monday, capping off a varied year for video games. The games highlighted skew toward the typical batch of action and role-playing titles, like Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree bringing the FromSoftware juggernaut back to The Game Awards and ****** Myth Wukong getting into Game of the Year, although indies like Balatro and the family game Astro **** collected a big batch of nominations. Leading the pack this year are Astro **** and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth with seven nominations each, while Metaphor: ReFantazio received six nominations. Sony Interactive Entertainment wins in terms of companies represented with 16 nominations, with Square Enix and Xbox receiving 12 each, and ***** rounding out the top with 11. The Game of the Year category (and by extension Best Game Direction since the nominees are identical) is a odd batch. While top nominees Astro ****, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, and Metaphor: ReFantazio are represented, the other three are a surprise indie hit (Balatro), a DLC expansion to a previous Game of the Year winner (Shadow of the Erdtree), and a popular but critically-mixed action game (****** Myth: Wukong). Balatro got five nominees total, while the other two got four each. Most of the other nominees were expected, although Silent Hill 2 getting a nomination for best narrative (the story was written over 20 years ago), Dragon Age: The Veilguard only getting one mention, and Star Wars Outlaws, a game that underperformed for Ubisoft, getting three nominations, are some of the stranger appearances on the list this year. ? 22. ****** Friday Samsung deals include the Music Frame Speaker for $150 off ****** Friday Samsung deals include the Music Frame Speaker for $150 off ****** Friday may still be a week and a half away, but if you were hoping to score a deal on Samsung’s Music Frame, there’s no need to wait until Thanksgiving. Ahead of next week, both Amazon and Samsung are selling the speaker for under $250. At $150 off its regular price, that’s an all-time low for the Music Frame, which will usually set you back $400. Considering Samsung only released the device earlier this year, this is a great opportunity to pick up one (or even two) for your home theater. For the uninitiated, think of the Music Frame as the speaker equivalent to Samsung’s popular Frame TV. Like its television counterpart, the Music Frame doubles as a piece of home decor. While it doesn’t have a display that will automatically cycle through digital artwork, you can manually insert prints and photos. Moreover, while pairing two Music Frames with a Frame TV is possible, it’s not limited to home theater use. The Music Frame works just fine as a standalone Wi-Fi and Bluetooth speaker. You can even use it as a smart home hub. It’s possible to mount the Music Frame on a wall or on a table, thanks to the included stand. Samsung After a $150 discount, you can get Samsung’s Music Frame for under $250. $248 at Amazon As for sound quality, Engadget senior reporter and resident audio geek Billy Steele was surprised by how good the Music Frame sounded when he got to demo it at CES earlier this year. “I was shocked by how robust and clear the overall sound quality is coming from the speaker,” he wrote at the time. “Highs and mids are adequately represented with great detail, while the bass is more restrained.“ If you’re curious, the Music Frame features two rear-facing woofers complemented by a set of two tweeters and two mid-range drivers, all four of which ***** from the front of the speaker. It also offers Dolby Atmos support, and Samsung has included its SpaceFit tech, which assists with room calibration. All told, the Music Frame is a great option for those looking for a speaker that will disappear into their home decor, but its high price can make it unappealing. At $150 off, however, it’s much easier to recommend, even if you’re on a budget. Check out all of the latest ****** Friday and Cyber Monday deals here. 23. Einstein’s theories tested on the largest scale ever – he was right Einstein’s theories tested on the largest scale ever – he was right The DESI instrument observing the sky from the Nicholas U. Mayall Telescope during a meteor shower KPNO/NOIRLab/NSF/AURA/R. Sparks Albert Einstein’s theory of general relativity has been proven right on the largest scale yet. An analysis of millions of galaxies shows that the way they have evolved and clustered over billions of years is consistent with his predictions. Ever since Einstein put forward his theory of gravity more than a century ago, researchers have been trying to find scenarios where it doesn’t hold up. But there had not been such a test at the level of the largest distances in the universe until now, says Mustapha Ishak-Boushaki at the University of Texas at Dallas. He and his colleagues used data from the Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument (DESI) in Arizona to conduct one. Details of cosmic structure and how it has changed over time are a potent test of how well we understand gravity because it was this force that shaped galaxies as they evolved out of the small variations in the distribution of matter in the early universe. DESI has so far collected data on how nearly 6 million galaxies clustered over the course of the past 11 billion years. Ishak-Boushaki and his colleagues combined this with results from several other large surveys, such as those mapping the cosmic microwave background radiation and supernovae. Then, they compared this with predictions from a theory of gravity that encompassed both Einstein’s ideas and more contemporary competing theories of modified gravity. They found no deviation from Einstein’s gravity. Ishak-Boushaki says that even though there are some uncertainties in the measurements, there is still no strong evidence that any theory that deviates from Einstein’s would capture the state of the universe more accurately. Itamar Allali at Brown University in Rhode Island says that while general relativity has been shown to hold in extremely precise tests conducted in laboratories, it is important to be able to test it at all scales, including across the entire cosmos. This helps eliminate the possibility that Einstein made correct predictions for objects of one size but not another, he says. The new analysis also offers hints for how dark energy, a mysterious force thought to be responsible for the accelerating expansion of the universe, fits within our theories of gravity, says Nathalie Palanque-Delabrouille at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory in California. Einstein’s earliest formulations of general relativity included a cosmological constant – a kind of anti-gravitational force that played the same role as dark energy – but previous DESI results have suggested that dark energy isn’t constant. It may have changed as the universe aged, says Palanque-Delabrouille. “The fact that we see agreement with [general relativity] and still see this departure from the cosmological constant really open the Pandora’s box of what the data could actually be telling us,” says Ishak-Boushaki. DESI will keep collecting data for several more years and ultimately record the positions and properties of 40 million galaxies, which the three scientists all say will bring clarity on how to correctly marry general relativity and theories of dark energy. This new analysis only used one year of DESI’s data, but in March 2025 the team will share takeaways from the instrument’s first three years of observations. Allali says he is anticipating these results to be consequential in several important ways, such as pinpointing shifts in the Hubble constant, which is a measure of the rate of the universe’s expansion, narrowing down the mass of elusive particles called neutrinos and even searching for new cosmic ingredients like “dark radiation”. “This analysis will weigh in on a lot more than gravity, it will weigh in on all of cosmology,” he says. 24. 2024 Election Voter Turnout Map: See Where Trump Gained and Harris Lost 2024 Election Voter Turnout Map: See Where Trump Gained and Harris Lost Change in votes compared with 2020 It may seem like a clear story: Donald Trump won the election by winning the most votes. He improved on his totals, adding about 2.5 million more votes than four years ago. But just as consequential to the outcome were Kamala Harris’s losses: She earned about 7 million fewer votes compared with Joseph R. Biden Jr.’s performance in 2020. Ms. Harris ******* to find new voters in three of the seven swing states and in 80 percent of counties across the country, a New York Times analysis shows. In the places where she matched or exceeded Mr. Biden’s vote totals, she ******* to match Mr. Trump’s gains. Where each candidate got more votes or fewer votes in 2024, compared with 2020 Ala. Harris + – × We can’t yet know how many Biden voters backed Mr. Trump or did not vote at all this cycle. But the decline in support for Ms. Harris in some of the country’s most ******** areas is particularly notable. Compared with Mr. Biden, she lost hundreds of thousands of votes in major cities including Chicago, Los Angeles and New York, and overall earned about 10 percent fewer votes in counties Mr. Biden won four years ago. Mr. Trump, by contrast, found new voters in most counties, with significant gains in red states like Texas and Florida and also in blue states like New Jersey and New York. Change in votes by county partisanship, compared with 2020 Heavily Democratic –12% +3% Moderately Democratic –10% +3% Lean Democratic –6% +3% Lean *********** –6% +4% Moderately *********** –5% +3% Heavily *********** –2% +4% Larry Sabato, the director of the Center for Politics at the University of Virginia, acknowledged that Biden voters who swung toward Mr. Trump played a part in Ms. Harris’s loss, but pointed to low Democratic turnout as the larger factor. “They just weren’t excited,” Mr. Sabato said of Democratic voters. “They were probably disillusioned by inflation, maybe the border. And they didn’t have the motivation to get up and go out to vote.” The national rightward shift is a continuation of voting patterns seen in the last two elections. Even in his 2020 defeat, Mr. Trump found new voters across the country. (Both parties earned more votes in 2020 than in 2016.) And although Democrats outperformed expectations in 2022, when some had predicted a “red wave,” they lost many voters who were dissatisfied with rising prices, pandemic-era restrictions and immigration policy. At the local level, three distinct patterns help illustrate the overall outcome in 2024: 1. Where both candidates gained votes, but Trump gained more. In hard-fought Georgia, both parties found new voters, but Mr. Trump outperformed Ms. Harris. For example, in Fulton County, which contains most of Atlanta, Ms. Harris gained about 4,500 votes, but Mr. Trump gained more than 7,400. By Eli Murray, Elena Shao, Charlie Smart and Christine Zhang In addition to his gains in the Atlanta area, Mr. Trump won new voters in every other part of Georgia. He flipped the state back to Republicans after Mr. Biden’s win there in 2020. He similarly outran Ms. Harris where she made gains in Wake County, N.C., Lancaster County, Pa., and Montgomery County, Texas. 2. Where Trump gained a little and Harris lost a little. In Milwaukee County in swing-state Wisconsin, Ms. Harris lost 1,200 voters compared with Mr. Biden’s total in 2020, while Mr. Trump gained more than 3,500. By Eli Murray, Elena Shao, Charlie Smart and Christine Zhang Ms. Harris still won the county at large, but her margins there and in other ******** enclaves of Wisconsin were not enough to hold off Mr. Trump’s victories in rural, blue-collar counties that voted *********** in 2016 and 2020. Democrats’ inability to maintain their vote totals in battleground states was also apparent in the crucial areas around Charlotte, N.C., Flint, Mich., and Scranton, Pa. 3. Where Trump gained a little and Harris lost a lot. Mr. Trump won Florida’s Miami-Dade County, becoming the first *********** to do so since 1988. But again, Ms. Harris’s loss was just as much of the story as his gain: Mr. Trump won about 70,000 new votes in the county, while she lost nearly 140,000. By Eli Murray, Elena Shao, Charlie Smart and Christine Zhang Other counties that Mr. Trump flipped had similar vote disparities. In 21 of these 77 counties, Mr. Trump received fewer votes in this election than in 2020, but the Democratic vote drop-off was much steeper. This happened from coast to coast, from Fresno County, Calif., to Pinellas County, Fla. Joel Benenson, the chief pollster for Barack Obama’s presidential campaigns, said he thought Democratic turnout was hurt by the party’s lack of a presidential primary. (Mr. Biden dropped out of the race in July.) That process, he said, helps energize core voters who get involved with volunteering, making phone calls and knocking on doors early in the year. “That was a real challenge for Vice President Harris, who had a short runway and would have benefited from a real primary season,” Mr. Benenson said. “Republicans had a contested primary — even with a former president, they didn’t just hand it to him.” Mr. Trump was clearly able to harness enthusiasm beyond his base. He made gains across almost all groups ranging in demographics, education and income, including those that traditionally made up the Democratic coalition. Ms. Harris ******* to match Mr. Biden among the same groups. He picked up votes in majority-Hispanic counties and in ****** neighborhoods of major cities, a preliminary analysis of precinct data shows. But he lost votes, as did Ms. Harris, in majority-****** counties, especially those in the South where turnout dropped overall. Mr. Trump found new voters in more than 30 states, including in the battleground states that were the sites of robust campaigning. His gains were modest in most other places. Ms. Harris was able to improve on Mr. Biden’s performance in only four of the seven battlegrounds and just five states overall. Change in votes by state, compared with 2020 Tap columns to sort. He said that internal polling showed that voters who cast a ballot in 2024 after not voting in 2022 or 2020 supported Mr. Trump, 52 percent to 46 percent. “The strategy was very much like 2016, to bring out casual voters who thought the country was on the wrong track,” Mr. McLaughlin said. “These voters blamed Biden and Harris and generally had positive approval for Trump.” Notes County election results are from the Associated Press. The county analysis is based on data for counties where counting was at least 94 percent complete as of Nov. 19. Results for Alaska are statewide. The 2024 precinct results are from the Georgia Secretary of State, the Miami-Dade County Supervisor of Elections and the Milwaukee County Clerk. The 2024 precinct boundary files are from state and local officials. The 2020 precinct results for Atlanta and Miami-Dade are from the Voting and Election Science Team. For Milwaukee’s 2020 precincts, The Times used a data set by John D. Johnson of Marquette Law School based on the county clerk and the Wisconsin Legislative Technology Services Bureau. In Atlanta and Miami, The Times used data from the 2020 decennial census to create a population-weighted estimate of the 2020 vote within 2024 precinct boundaries. 25. Italian village offers $1 homes to Americans upset by the US election result Italian village offers $1 homes to Americans upset by the US election result For travel tips, recipes and more insight on Italian culture, sign up for CNN’s Unlocking Italy newsletter. This eight-part guide will have you packing your bags in no time. While many communities around the world have been wondering what to make of Donald Trump’s presidential re-election, a village on the Italian island of Sardinia has sniffed a potential opportunity. Like many other places in rural Italy, Ollolai has long been trying to persuade outsiders to move in to revive its fortunes after decades of depopulation. It’s been selling dilapidated houses for as little as one euro — just over a dollar — to sweeten the deal. Now, following the November 5 vote outcome, it’s launched a website aimed at would-be ********* expats, offering up more cheap homes in the hope that those upset by the result will rush to snap up one of its empty properties. “Are you worned (sic) out by global politics? Looking to embrace a more balanced lifestyle while securing new opportunities?” the website asks. “It’s time to start building your ********* escape in the stunning paradise of Sardinia.” Mayor Francesco Columbu tells CNN that the website was specifically created to attract ********* voters in the wake of the presidential elections. He says he loves the ******* States and is convinced Americans are the best people to help revive his community. “We just really want, and will focus on, Americans above all,” he says. “We can’t of course ban people from other countries to apply, but Americans will have a fast-track procedure. We are ******** on them to help us revive the village, they are our winning card.” ‘Preferential treatment’ Properties on offer include dilapidated homes at giveaway prices to ready-to-occupy buildings for up to $105,000. – Roberto Tangianu/Sardegna Live Columbu says the village is now offering three tiers of accommodation: Free temporary homes to certain digital nomads, one-euro homes in need of renovations, and ready-to-occupy houses for prices up to 100,000 euros ($105,000). The mayor says he’s set up a special team to guide interested buyers through every step of the purchase, from organizing tailored private tours of the available dwellings to finding contractors, builders and navigating required paperwork. He says photos and plans of available empty properties will be soon be uploaded to the website. In the past century, Ollolai’s population has shrunk from 2,250 to 1,300 with only a handful of ******* born each year. Many families left the village during tough economic times, in search of work and better lives. Over the last few years, the poulation has further dropped to barely 1,150 residents. While the village may be desperate to lure newcomers in an attempt to stop depopulation, the offer of “preferential treatment” to Americans, as Columbu describes it, may seem a bit controversial. The website does not mentioned having a US passport as a prerequisite, but the mayor says US citizens will be favored above potential applicants of other nationalities. “Of course, we can’t specifically mention the name of one US president who just got elected, but we all know that he’s the one from whom many Americans want to get away from now and leave the country,” Columbo adds. “We have specifically created this website now to meet US post-elections relocation needs. The first edition of our digital nomad scheme which launched last year was already solely for Americans.” The mayor says the town hall’s website has been flooded recently with 38,000 requests of information on houses, mostly coming from the ******* States. “So we were really looking to create a platform that caters to US citizens, and to group together our various projects,” says Columbu. A remote paradise The town is also trying attract digital nomads. – Roberto Tangianu/Sardegna Live Ollolai has previously tried to lure new residents with appealing housing schemes. In 2018, as first reported by CNN, the town hall started selling dilapidated empty homes for one euro. Then it went on to rent empty working spaces for a symbolic one euro. Lastly, starting last year, it launched a “work from Ollolai” program for digital nomads. So far four Americans have been hosted in fully equipped dwellings for a symbolic one euro. In return, they had to create something for the community, like an artwork or book. The town hall pays to rent the homes from local families for the remote workers, paying roughly 350 euros per month for multi-floor, two-bedroom dwellings. Utilities, bills and council taxes are also covered. But revival plans have not been going as well as local authorities had hoped. Since 2018, only 10 homes have been sold for one euro and renovated, says Columbu. “The village ******** half empty, we still have about 100 unoccupied cheap homes potentially on *****, ready to move in. We have mapped and listed them all, and soon photos will be online for buyers to take a look at.” Most buildings are located in the historical center and come in varying sizes.
