Jump in cyber attacks should put businesses on high alert
Pelican Press posted a topic in World News
Jump in cyber attacks should put businesses on high alert Jump in cyber attacks should put businesses on high alert Cyber threats have been real and present for a long time – but the evidence suggests that there has been a renewed spike in attacks in recent times which make a robust cyber security position more critical than ever. In this year’s Nash Squared/Harvey Nash Digital Leadership Report (DLR), conducted amongst over 2,000 technology leaders around the world, 29% of respondents say their organisation has been subject to a major attack in the previous two years, a significant increase from 23% in 2023. This jump bucks a broadly downward trend seen over the last five years. Not since 2019 has the figure been this high. It’s a timely reminder that a strong, multi-layered cyber security approach is essential for all businesses. Quite simply, those organisations not investing in cyber security do so at their peril. The reality is that, both financially and reputationally, they are almost sure to pay the price one day. Proliferating threats The technology leaders we surveyed are in little doubt about the main threat – with 84% pointing to organised cyber-crime groups as public enemy number one. However, there has also been a jump in those citing foreign powers as a cyber danger, standing at 50% whereas in 2022 this was only 40%. Given the fraught and tense geopolitical climate in which we live, this is perhaps unsurprising. Meanwhile, the perceived insider threat has also grown, with 42% naming this as a concern compared to 34% in 2023. In short, there are growing cyber threats from multiple bad actors. The added challenge is that attack methods are becoming ever more sophisticated and varied, from ransomware and data theft to phishing attacks that increasingly utilise highly convincing AI-powered deepfake technology. This reinforces the need for zero trust and highlights the absolute importance that everyone in a business should exercise due caution, following clearly communicated security protocols. Strong identity and access management processes are critically important, along with 24/7 threat detection and robust – and regularly tested – incident response procedures. Cyber skills challenge Robust cyber defences depend on having a highly skilled cyber security team, but another clear concern is that finding cyber talent has become increasingly difficult. In this year’s DLR, cyber emerges as the third highest area of skills shortages. A third of technology leaders (33%) say they are struggling with a cyber skills shortage which is a significant rise from our last study when the figure was 27%. Only AI (51%) and Big Data (38%) come in higher. This challenge certainly rings true in terms of what we see in the market – businesses across sectors are struggling to find scarce cyber talent whether that’s at an operational level (cyber engineers), a more strategic level (cyber architects and analysts), or a leadership level (CISOs). Success factors – three key areas There are no quick fixes here, in what is an ongoing and ever-present battle to keep an organisation’s perimeters secure. But I believe there are three principles that can significantly aid businesses in the security endeavour. 1. Upskilling and training Firstly, while it may be hard to find external cyber talent on the open market, there is much that can be done internally to upskill and cross-skill the existing team. This could be through a programme of internal or external training, or a combination of both. Building your institutional knowledge and capabilities in-house can have a powerful effect. By investing in your team, it can also increase motivation and loyalty – no small spin-off benefit. But organisations shouldn’t confine their focus to the cyber and/or technology teams – there should be a programme of awareness and education for all staff across the enterprise, which should be regularly refreshed and repeated. Security is everyone’s responsibility. Often, it is heading off those small incidents of poor practice or carelessness that prevents a much larger incident from taking place. 2. Managed services Secondly, dependent on the size of the organisation, it may be worthwhile exploring what managed services are available. Contracting with a managed service provider (MSP) to conduct your monitoring and threat detection or your security testing, for example, may be an investment worth making. An MSP may also be able to implement new security features and defences that you lack the internal know-how or experience to do in-house. 3. Alternative resourcing models Seeking a business partner that deeply understands both the talent market and your business while also being clear about which areas you want to strengthen can open up routes to accessing a wider talent pool. Such partners can also help you find passive talent (people not actively looking but who may be interested in moving roles if the conditions are right). More broadly, they can advise you on alternative resourcing models – such as considering employing fractional, part-time or contractor talent to bolster your team. It is not uncommon now, for example, for large organisations to employ multiple CISOs, some on a fractional basis. This helps with knowledge and intelligence sharing and creates wider perspectives on both threats and solutions. Cyber security is a daily battle against an array of sophisticated threats. Leveraging every possible tool in the armoury is becoming essential to stay ahead and keep the business safe, secure and efficient in its functioning Source link #Jump #cyber #attacks #put #businesses #high #alert Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content] -
JPMorgan downgrades this streaming giant JPMorgan downgrades this streaming giant Netflix could be due for a slowdown, according to JPMorgan. The firm downgraded the streaming giant to neutral from overweight. The bank did raise its price target to $1,220 from $1,150, but that only implies upside of roughly 2% from Friday’s close. “To be clear, there’s no change to our long-term bullish view on NFLX’s streaming leadership position & the company’s potential to effectively become global TV over time,” analyst Doug Anmuth said. “However, more near-term, following significant stock price appreciation & outperformance, we believe the risk/reward in NFLX shares is becoming more balanced.” NFLX YTD mountain Netflix stock in 2025. Netflix has surged nearly 34% in 2025, compared to a 1.3% gain for the S & P 500 . With the stock hovering near its all-time high, the analyst thinks any potential upside to the company’s 2025 outlook is already priced in. Shares hit a record high last week, reaching an intraday high of $1,196.50. Those gains come as investors fret over global trade tensions after President Donald Trump unveiled a slew of broad tariffs on imported goods. Wall Street has sought protection in Netflix as worries persist, but Anmuth said they could begin moving elsewhere. “NFLX shares have been defensive, but if tariff & macro concerns continue to ease, we would expect rotation into other Internet names & parts of the market that have been more vulnerable & pressured,” the analyst said. “Summer months are seasonally slower for NFLX, & post last week’s Upfront the near-term catalyst path may be quieter, despite compelling 3Q content,” he said. Netflix shares were down more than 2% in the premarket after the downgrade. Despite the rating change, most analysts remain bullish on the stock. LSEG data shows that 38 of 51 analysts covering Netflix rate it a buy or strong buy. the remaining 13 have a hold rating on it. NJ Transit strike comes to an end with agreement between union and managers NJ Transit strike comes to an end with agreement between union and managers The New Jersey Transit rail strike will end after the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen and NJ Transit managers reached a tentative agreement Sunday. Trains will resume running on their regular schedules Tuesday, NJ Transit President and CEO Kris Kolluri said, ending the first strike at NJ Transit in over 40 years. Kolluri urged commuters to work from home Monday until full service picks up again Tuesday. NJ Transit buses will run as normal Monday. Kolluri said the company has a lot to do to ready the railway for safe passage after no use, including checking the railroads, pre-positioning equipment, conducting safety inspections and calling engineers back into work. “This is an extraordinarily complex operation,” Kolluri said. “We will never compromise the safety of our riders. For us, it is better to get it right and do it methodically than to rush and try to meet some artificial deadline.” New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy lauded transit managers’ efforts at the negotiating table, saying he thought the deal “landed in a really good place.” “They have poured hour after countless hour into reaching an agreement that is both fair to NJ Transit’s employees while also being affordable for our state’s commuters and taxpayers,” he said at a news conference Sunday evening. The locomotive union said the strike, which began at 12:01 a.m. Friday, was a result of pay disputes, as 450 of its members who work for NJ Transit walked off the job. It brought the country’s third-largest transit system, which services 350,000 riders, to a halt. It shut down NJ Transit trains, which carry around 100,000 riders each day. Talks between the union and NJ Transit officials had continued through the weekend. The terms of the deal will now be sent to the 450 union members who work for the company. A ratification vote by the union and by NJ Transit is expected to follow, the union said. Tom Haas, the union’s general chairman at NJ Transit, said the agreement would boost hourly pay higher than the April proposal by NJ Transit, which the union rejected, and higher still than where the proposal had stood Thursday night. The union has said its members were the lowest-paid locomotive engineers at any major passenger railroad in the country. It said NJ Transit engineers haven’t had raises in the last five years. “We’re just looking for some sort of equal pay for equal work,” a striking locomotive engineer, who would not give NBC News his name under the union’s rules, said Friday. The man said Amtrak and the Long Island Railroad pay around $10 an hour more. Murphy said the offer to the union before the strike was pay similar to that of engineers for the Long Island Railroad. Mark Wallace, the locomotive union’s national president, said the union had “the full support of our national union, as well as the Teamsters.” “We also appreciated the outpouring of support we received from NJ Transit passengers and the labor community who know that NJ Transit’s locomotive engineers keep the trains moving and went years without a raise,” Wallace said. He also thanked Congress for not interfering with the strike, which it is able to do under the Railway Labor Act. “This should be a lesson for other railroad disputes. Nothing would have been gained by kicking the can down the road. Allowing strikes to happen encourages settlement rather than stonewalling,” Wallace added. Late Thursday, before the strike deadline, Murphy and Kolluri said they wanted a fair agreement for the union but added that they couldn’t agree to a deal that might have been better than those of other unions in the NJ Transit system, because it would cause those unions to demand the same. “It turns from something that is maybe a single-digit million or a low double-digit million fiscal reality into a nine-digit fiscal reality — and that’s something that NJ Transit can’t bear,” Murphy said at the time. Nvidia announces new tech to keep it at the center of AI development Nvidia announces new tech to keep it at the center of AI development Jensen Huang, co-founder and chief executive officer of Nvidia Corp., speaks during the Computex conference in Taipei, Taiwan, on Monday, May 19, 2025. Bloomberg | Bloomberg | Getty Images Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang made a slew of announcements and revealed new products on Monday that are aimed at keeping the company at the center of artificial intelligence development and computing. One of the most notable announcements was its new “NVLink Fusion” program, which will allow customers and partners to use non-Nvidia central processing units and graphics processing units together with Nvidia’s products and its NVLink. Until now, NVLink was closed to chips made by Nvidia. NVLink is a technology developed by Nvidia to connect and exchange data between its GPUs and CPUs. “NV link fusion is so that you can build semi-custom AI infrastructure, not just semi-custom chips,” Huang said at the Computex 2025 in Taiwan, Asia’s biggest electronics conference. According to Huang, NVLink Fusion allows for AI infrastructures to combine Nvidia processors with different CPUs and application-specific integrated circuits (ASICs). “In any case, you have the benefit of using the NV link infrastructure and the NV link ecosystem.” Nvidia announced Monday that AI chipmaking partners for NVLink Fusion already include MediaTek, Marvell, Alchip, Astera Labs, Synopsys and Cadence. Under NVLink Fusion, Nvidia customers like Fujitsu and Qualcomm Technologies will also be able to connect their own third-party CPUs with Nvidia’s GPUs in AI data centers, it added. According to Ray Wang, a Washington-based semiconductor and technology analyst, the NVLink represents Nvidia’s plans to capture a share of data centers based on ASICs, which have traditionally been seen as Nvidia competitors. While Nvidia holds a dominant position in GPUs used for general AI training, many competitors see room for expansion in chips designed for more specific applications. Some of Nvidia’s largest competitors in AI computing — which are also some of its biggest customers — include cloud providers such as Google, Microsoft and Amazon, all of which are building their own custom processors. NVLink Fusion “consolidates NVIDIA as the center of next-generation AI factories—even when those systems aren’t built entirely with NVIDIA chips,” Wang said, noting that it opens opportunities for Nvidia to serve customers who aren’t building fully Nvidia-based systems, but are looking to integrate some of its GPUs. “If widely adopted, NVLink Fusion could broaden NVIDIA’s industry footprint by fostering deeper collaboration with custom CPU developers and ASIC designers in building the AI infrastructure of the future,” Wang said. However, NVLink Fusion does risk lowering demand for Nvidia’s CPU by allowing Nvidia customers to use alternatives, according to Rolf Bulk, an equity research analyst at New Street Research. Nevertheless, “at the system level, the added flexibility improves the competitiveness of Nvidia’s GPU-based solutions versus alternative emerging architectures, helping Nvidia to maintain its position at the center of AI computing,” he said. Nvidia’s competitors Broadcom, AMD, and Intel are so far absent from the NVLink Fusion ecosystem. Other updates Huang opened his keynote speech with an update on Nvidia’s next-generation of Grace Blackwell systems for AI workloads. The company’s “GB300,” to be released in the third quarter of this year, will offer higher overall system performance, he said. On Monday, Nvidia also announced the new NVIDIA DGX Cloud Lepton, an AI platform with a compute marketplace that Nvidia said will connect the world’s AI developers with tens of thousands of GPUs from a global network of cloud providers. “DGX Cloud Lepton helps address the critical challenge of securing reliable, high-performance GPU resources by unifying access to cloud AI services and GPU capacity across the NVIDIA compute ecosystem,” the company said in a press release. In his speech, Huang also announced plans for a new office in Taiwan, where it will also be building an AI supercomputer project with Taiwan’s Foxconn, officially known as Hon Hai Technology Group, the world’s largest electronics manufacturer. “We are delighted to partner with Foxconn and Taiwan to help build Taiwan’s AI infrastructure, and to support TSMC and other leading companies to advance innovation in the age of AI and robotics,” Huang said. September Born impresses in second trial, warming up for winter three-year-old feature raid September Born impresses in second trial, warming up for winter three-year-old feature raid Classy colt September Born continued his ascendance towards a racing preparation with a dynamic victory at Monday’s Lark Hill trials, defeating the multiply Group-placed Miss Skyhigh in a 950m heat. The imposing son of Playing God sat midfield, bang on the back of capable type Hell I Am in a three-wide position. Cornering at the 450m, Brad Parnham eased the three-year-old four wide to chase down early leader Pompey and the youngster’s big engine clicked into gear, making sustained progress down the outside. With 200m to go, he had mastered Pompey but now had Miss Skyhigh making inroads after finding a run against the rail. Despite the mare’s electric burst, September Born kept up the gallop to score by a long neck with only half a length separating three Grant and Alana Williams-trained runners behind (Miss Skyhigh, Pompey and Hell I Am). It was September Born’s second trial in as many weeks after he closed off in style behind stablemate Bustler at Belmont, showing noticeable physical progression from his previous preparation which featured a Fairetha Stakes win last November. After that trial, trainer Neville Parnham reported the entire to have come through the trial well but was ‘extremely gross’ and had a ‘high heart rate’, necessitating the need for Monday’******-out. He will now aim the untapped sort at a campaign of ‘two or three runs’, beginning in an $80,000 three-year-old set weights and penalties event over 1200m on May 31. He will then look to emulate his full-sister Kay Cee by winning the Raconteur Stakes (1400m) and Belmont Guineas (1600m) on June 14 and 28 respectively. Earlier, Quokka winning duo Bernie Miller and Pat Carbery combined to salute in the fourth heat with a clever showing from two-year-old Forever Elite. Among the last to leave the gates, the daughter of Maschino quickly recovered along the fence to be only four lengths from leader Leg Godt at the 600m. Cuddled into the straight by Carbery, he finally poked the filly’s head through a gap at the 200m and she quickened attractively, making smooth progress on Leg Godt instantaneously. Once shaken up nearing the 100m, Forever Elite steamed past the pace-maker and careered clear, scoring by a length and three quarters. It was the unraced youngster’s second trial after taking the eye in a Lark Hill trial when third to Arctic Snow two weeks previous. Her mother, Brave Queen, won just once over 900m at the Gold Coast on a Heavy 10-rated track in March 2010. Shifting to WA later that year, Brave Queen had six starts at Esperance and beat just seven runners home in all of those starts cumulatively. 101st Airborne tapped as first unit to get new ****** Hawk replacement 101st Airborne tapped as first unit to get new ****** Hawk replacement The 101st Airborne Division will be the first unit to get the Army’s new tiltrotor aircraft. This week the Army announced that the 101st will get to use Bell’s V-280 Valor, a next-generation replacement for the aging H-60 ****** Hawk helicopter. The 101st Combat Aviation Brigade, the division’s attached aviation unit, will receive the aircraft, which recently was given its official mission-design series designator of the MV-75. The choice of the 101st “was based on their mission profile and theater demands,” Gen. James Mingus, the Army’s vice chief of staff, said during his remarks at the Army Aviation Association of America conference this week. “This decision makes sense, the 101st is a formation built to deploy rapidly and operate in austere conditions,” he continued. Bell’s V-280 Valor, was selected in 2022 as the winner of the Army’s Future Long-Range Assault Aircraft competition. The vertical take off and landing craft has two engines and is designed for both assault and transport purposes. According to the manufacturer, the aircraft is capable of a top speed of 280 knots (which led to its name) and has a range of 800 nautical miles, both greater than ****** Hawk. Beyond speed, the aircraft can also carry a greater number of soldiers and cargo than the ****** Hawk. Mingus said that the initial testing by the 101st Airborne Division will be used to shape MV-75 tactics and doctrine, per Janes. The Army operates roughly 2,000 ****** Hawk helicopters, which have been in use since the 1970s. The Army previously said it expects to field the MV-75 by 2030. According to TWZ, the MV-75 designation is an homage to the year 1775, the birth year of the U.S. Army. The Army is currently carrying out several events and projects commemorating its 250th birthday. The MV-75 aircraft. Photo courtesy Bell. Earlier this month U.S. Special Operations Command said that the V-280 was changed in development to allow it to carry more weight, with the intention of making it more easily convertible for use by special operations units. The Army’s 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment currently uses MH-60M variants of ****** Hawks, which require extensive modifications to be mission ready. The assignment comes as the Army is also aiming to shift how it uses its helicopter units. In late April, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth released a memo directing a major transformation of the overall U.S. Army. That included restructuring of commands, a greater focus on integrating tactics around drones, and a reshaping of helicopter units. Hegseth’s memo directed the Secretary of the Army to “reduce and restructure manned attack helicopter formations,” as well as design them to work in coordination with drone swarms. It’s unclear how testing on the MV-75 will play into that goal. Home Projector Market to Double In Next 4 Years, South and West Key for BenQ India: Rajeev Singh Home Projector Market to Double In Next 4 Years, South and West Key for BenQ India: Rajeev Singh India’s home projector market is steadily gaining momentum, and BenQ – the leading name in the projector segment – has raised the bar once again with the launch of its two new flagship 4K models: the W5850 and W4100i. The W5850 is priced at Rs 7,00,000, and the W4100i will be available for Rs 4,00,000. Both projectors will be available through all leading Home AVSI partners across India starting May 2025 onwards. These both projectors are packed with BenQ’s CinematicColor technology (100% DCI-P3) and HDR-PRO for outstanding color accuracy. Gadgets 360 had a word with Rajeev Singh, Managing Director of BenQ India & South Asia, on the emerging trends in the Indian market and overall company strategy. Few of the responses have been edited and shortened for ease of understanding. How do you see the smart projector market growing in india over the next 5 years? And what will be your contribution to this growth in this? In the market for smart projectors, there is only the home projector segment that is currently growing. The data projector and B2B projector markets are stagnant. However, the home projector segment is growing at a rapid rate. The reason behind is that people’s pattern of consuming content has changed, and along with this, there have been major changes in projector technology as well. Earlier, there were many limitations to the use of projectors in the home, including the requirement of a dark big room, a white projection screen, short lamp life, and complicated installation. The traditional negatives of projectors that were there while using them at home are no longer there. Due to advances in technology, all these limitations have been overcome. Now the life cycle of the projector is also increasing a lot; it has become about 30 thousand hours. In such a situation, if you use the projector for even 5 hours daily, then your projector will last for 10 to 15 years. Currently, most people, particularly high-net-worth individuals (HNI), prefer watching content at home rather than going to multiplexes. These people are spending money on making their home a multiplex. We are the leading player in the projector market in India, and our overall market share is close to 50%. Our market share in the 4K projector segment stands at about 42-43%, and that in the portable projector segment at about 51%. We estimate that the home entertainment projector market will keep growing at a rate of 20-25% year-on-year. At this rate, the market could almost double in size over the next three to four years. India is a price sensitive yet aspirational market for many players. How does BenQ plan to balance affordability with premium innovations here? I believe that India is not a price-sensitive market, but a value-driven one. Indian customers prioritize value over just price. We are also a value-oriented brand, and the value we offer within our price range is the best in the market-which is why we are the market leader. Our products are not cheap, but the value we provide at our price points is unmatched by any other competing brand. When it comes to affordability, we offer a wide range of products that cater to different price points, ensuring that customers can choose according to the value they seek. With the rise of 4K and laser projection, what’s next in terms of image quality and performance? And how are you integrating AI into projectors? The new feature you’re seeing in picture quality is 100% DCI-P3, which is found in professional-grade cinema. We’ve implemented this 100% DCI-P3 in our new projectors, the W5850 and W4100i, so now you can enjoy professional-grade cinema color quality at home. A few years ago, it was impossible to experience such image quality and color at home, but we’ve made it possible. BenQ W5850 (left) and W4100i (right) The next big thing you’ll see in commercial cinema is Rec. 2020. This is the new standard upgrade for commercial theaters. We launched the Laser TV Projector some time ago, which meets 95% of the Rec. 2020 standard. As for AI in projectors, we’ve started integrating AI into our new projectors. You’ll experience this in the W5850 and W4100i. AI takes your picture performance to the next level. Through AI, the projector automatically reads the lighting conditions and adjusts the image quality in real time, enhancing brightness and color according to the environment. Additionally, you can enjoy the AI Cinema Mode in our new projectors. How is BenQ positioning itself in the Indian projector market compared to local and global competitors? There is global competition in this segment, but we are proud to be the market leader and are performing very well. At our company, we believe in setting trends rather than following them. For example, with our W5850 and W4100i projectors, we introduced AI Cinema-bringing cutting-edge technology to the forefront. We always strive to be the first to deliver advanced innovations in the projector segment for our consumers. Which region in India is the biggest market for BenQ in terms of projector, and where are you seeing the highest sales? In India, we are seeing the highest demand for projectors from the South and West regions. There is clearly stronger demand in the South and West compared to the North and East. The main reason is that people in these regions are more passionate about movies and content. They enjoy watching content on the big screen. Mumbai, being the hub of Bollywood, is an important market for us. The size of homes in Mumbai may be relatively small, but the passion for cinema keeps that demand reasonable. In Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, people are very enthusiastic about movies, and with homes getting more spacious, we’re seeing good demand from these areas as well. Billionaire Stanley Druckenmiller Dumped Nvidia Last Year. Now He Just Sold All of His Shares of a Market-Beating Monster AI Stock That’s Soared 1,500% Over the Past 3 Years. Billionaire Stanley Druckenmiller Dumped Nvidia Last Year. Now He Just Sold All of His Shares of a Market-Beating Monster AI Stock That’s Soared 1,500% Over the Past 3 Years. Druckenmiller sold Nvidia as it continued to soar and even expressed regret about the decision — but the move still represented an investing win for him. He recently exited another stock that analysts say has gotten too expensive. 10 stocks we like better than Palantir Technologies › Artificial intelligence (AI) stocks have surged in recent years as the AI ***** picked up speed — investors eagerly piled into these players with the hope that AI would become the next game-changing technology, much like the Internet, or moving much farther back in history, the steam engine. This is very possible, considering AI’s ability to help companies gain in efficiency, problem solve, and even develop better products faster. This investing theme hasn’t only appealed to small retail investors but also to billionaires. In fact, many got in on some of the top players early and have already locked in profit. A great example is Stanley Druckenmiller, who for 30 years at the helm of Duquesne Capital delivered an average annual gain of 30% and never had a money-losing year. So Druckenmiller has proved his ability to choose winning stocks over time. Last year, now at the head of the Duquesne Family office, the billionaire made a shocking move, selling all of his shares of AI chip leader Nvidia (NASDAQ: NVDA) as the stock soared. He originally bought the stock in the fourth quarter of 2022, so he scored a win on the investment, but at the time of Druckenmiller’s *****, it was clear Nvidia still had a bright earnings growth story ahead. Even Druckenmiller expressed some disappointment at his own move, saying Nvidia stock had gotten expensive, but he believes in the company’s potential and would consider buying the stock again. Now, in the first quarter of this year, Druckenmiller has made another bold move — this time concerning a market-beating AI stock that’s soared 1,500% over the past three years. Let’s take a closer look at this latest billionaire bet. Image source: Getty Images. First, a quick note about what’s happened with Nvidia stock since Druckenmiller sold it. The billionaire could have gained a bit more if he held on an extra quarter — he sold Nvidia in the third quarter, and it went on to climb another 14% in the fourth quarter. But if he’d held on to it through the first quarter of this year, he would have accompanied Nvidia through its 29% loss from the start of the year through its lowest point last month. All of this shows it’s impossible to time the market and buy at the absolute lowest and sell at the highest — but if you hold on for a matter of years, you don’t have to do that. Long-term investing offers us plenty of time to score a very satisfactory win. Story Continues Now, let’s consider Druckenmiller’s latest move. In the first quarter of this year, the billionaire sold all of his shares of Palantir Technologies (NASDAQ: PLTR), a software company that’s generated explosive revenue growth amid demand from government and commercial customers. Palantir offers them AI-driven software to aggregate their data and make better use of it — and the technology has produced game-changing results that have kept the company’s momentum going. In fact, even as analysts warn that Palantir shares have become too expensive, trading for a mind-blowing 222 times forward earnings estimates, the stock has continued to rise. Druckenmiller originally bought Palantir stock in the first quarter of last year, so he held on to it for about a year. Last year, the shares surged 340%, then continued to march higher, advancing more than 70% from the start of this year through today. Druckenmiller, after winning on his Nvidia investment, scored a win on Palantir too. In both cases, Druckenmiller accomplished this by holding on for only a year or two because leading AI stocks have delivered gains very quickly — this happens from time to time in an industry that’s particularly in favor during a given *******. Now, the question is, should you follow Druckenmiller and sell names like Nvidia and Palantir and move on? The answer depends on your investment strategy. It’s important to remember that Druckenmiller is a professional and has the time and resources to quickly enter and exit positions — and benefit from gains over a relatively short time *******. And when Druckenmiller closes a position, it doesn’t necessarily mean he no longer believes in the long-term story — as he said regarding Nvidia last year. The billionaire may simply be allocating funds into other players that he believes could gain more quickly in the months to come. But smaller non-professional investors may find that by staying invested in a particular player — such as Nvidia or Palantir — yes, they may accompany the stocks through a low ******* or two, but over the years to come they might score an additional win. So, it’s often worth holding on for a number of years, as long as the companies’ long-term growth prospects remain compelling. Today, Nvidia and Palantir both offer bright outlooks thanks to their solid technology, their strong market positions, and general forecasts for AI growth this decade — and that means holding on to these players for a number of years also could be a great move. Before you buy stock in Palantir Technologies, consider this: The Motley Fool Stock Advisor analyst team just identified what they believe are the 10 best stocks for investors to buy now… and Palantir Technologies wasn’t one of them. Why Is Northern Corfu Called Kensington-on-Sea? Why Is Northern Corfu Called Kensington-on-Sea? The northeastern coast of Corfu is often referred to as Kensington-on-Sea by the British press. Since the 1970s, it’s been a beloved destination for affluent Britons, and it gained even broader fame thanks to Gerald Durrell’s My Family and Other Animals, which inspired the popular TV series The Durrells. The lush nature, crystal-clear turquoise sea, dreamy villas with infinity pools, and modern tavernas serving perfectly cooked Greek food create a unique destination still largely unknown to the masses. It stands out for its turquoise-green waters and the unique ecosystem of Erimitis that surrounds it. © Tzoulia Klimi Akoli, perhaps the most exotic beach on the island. It stands out for its turquoise-green waters and the unique ecosystem of Erimitis that surrounds it. © Tzoulia Klimi Dense olive groves descend to pebbled beaches and old fishing harbors such as Kalami, Kouloura and Kassiopi, forming the 26-km coastline stretching from Barbati to the sandy beach of Aghios Spyridon. Wealthy Brits – like the Barkley family of The Telegraph, art dealers, designers and House of Lords members – still flock here, as do Austrians, the Dutch and, recently, Russians. These are people who also frequent the south of France, Ibiza and the Amalfi Coast. For them, northeast Corfu “remains pleasantly unpretentious,” as a Daily Telegraph journalist once wrote. They cherish the “comforting serenity of the landscape,” the seclusion of their infinity pools shaded by olive trees, the freedom of cruising around in boats, sea swims and long lunches at seaside tavernas. “Corfu doesn’t need to try to be cool – it simply is,” says British architect Dominic Skinner, whose company Ionian Estates offers villas with infinity pools, many designed by Skinner himself. One of his standout projects is the award-winning Rou Estate: a 200-year-old village on the slopes of Mt Pantokrator, transformed into 16 contemporary stone villas amid olive terraces and lush greenery – all without losing the magic that was here. The Kaminaki-Kerasia route, a 5 km trail through lush greenery, takes about an hour and a half to complete on an accessible, well-marked path that is part of the Corfu Trail. It passes by all the beaches, even those that can only be reached by sea. © Tzoulia Klimi The Kaminaki-Kerasia route, a 5 km trail through lush greenery, takes about an hour and a half to complete on an accessible, well-marked path that is part of the Corfu Trail. We ordered chilled white wine, homemade marinated anchovies, silky taramosalata with a delicate smoky flavor, and perfectly fried Symi shrimp. The kids devoured their bolognese and darted off to dive from the jetty. Meanwhile, juicy clams in lemon juice and olive oil arrived, their aroma lingering in the air. That was just the beginning. Next came tender octopus carpaccio drizzled with olive oil, fresh spring onions, oregano, and pink peppercorns. The food here is a cultural treasure! We passed castle-like villas and elegant summer homes next to emerald coves, rocky shores, and lush vegetation on our way to Nissaki, Agni with its tavernas, and tranquil Gialiskari. In Kalami, almost hidden in greenery, we glimpsed the pink Rothschild villa in the olive grove, once the summer setting for painter Nikos Hadjikyriakos-Ghikas and his wife Barbara – previously married to a Rothschild heir – along with Joan and Patrick Leigh Fermor and their friend John Craxton. The path also passed the iconic White House, where the Durrell family lived in the 1930s. Today, it’s a modern café and restaurant with excellent food. At sunset, we reached picturesque Kouloura Bay. Using the Moovit app, we found the bus stop and departure time from Kassiopi and, in no time, we were back in Kaminaki, where we’d left the car. In the picturesque fishing harbor of Kouloura, the tavern of the same name, located in the same spot since the 1970s, serves ultra-fresh fish and authentic Corfiot dishes, such as scorpionfish bourdeto and lobster spaghetti. © Tzoulia Klimi In the picturesque fishing harbor of Kouloura, the tavern of the same name, located in the same spot since the 1970s, serves ultra-fresh fish and authentic Corfiot dishes, such as scorpionfish bourdeto and lobster spaghetti. © Tzoulia Klimi The next morning, we completed the half-hour walk from Kouloura to Kerassia. A riot of colorful flowers unfurled in the morning light. The sea, crystal-clear and mirror-like, filled the coves with every shade of aquamarine. The teenagers in our group stayed at the first tiny beach, lured by the turquoise waters. Later, we enjoyed a quick picnic under eucalyptus trees on Kerassia beach, with a rustic Corfiot pie called zorka – crustless and made with wild greens – made from a recipe one of the fathers had found in Gastronomos magazine. Back in Kouloura’s taverna, a fish supplier arrived carrying a crate of red mullet, scorpionfish, groupers with firm flesh and gleaming skin, and lively lobsters twitching their antennae. “Caught this morning,” he said – not that their freshness needed confirmation! The taverna, which has been operating in the same spot since the early 20th century, started out as a café and turned into a full eatery in the 1970s under the stewardship of Matina and Elena Ginaryrou’s parents. Today, it’s a beloved Corfiot seafood spot, famous for its scorpionfish bourdetto, lobster pasta, and tsigarelli – a local dish of wild greens, delightfully bitter, spicy and perfectly oiled. Divine! Aghios Arsenios, with its namesake chapel and the Blue Cave, located between Nissaki and Agni, is the perfect spot for a swim in emerald waters. © Tzoulia Klimi Aghios Arsenios, with its namesake chapel and the Blue Cave, located between Nissaki and Agni, is the perfect spot for a swim in emerald waters. © Tzoulia Klimi We moved from ouzo meze to Mama Barbara’s pan-fried red mullet; at a nearby table, a large group of Brits enjoyed white wine with **** shrimp and grilled vegetables. By three in the afternoon, the place was buzzing joyfully, the sea breeze mixing with the scent of fish on the grill. After lunch, we set sail on a friend’s yacht, stopping first at Aghios Arsenios with its namesake chapel – a perfect spot for swimming in emerald waters. We discovered a small cave, and spotted birds of prey soaring in the cloudless sky as well as yellow crocuses blooming between jagged limestone rocks. Next stop: the untouched ecosystem of Erimitis, stretching from Aghios Stefanos to Avlaki Beach, a hiker’s paradise, with some of the clearest, most exotic waters and rich marine life – just a breath away from Albania’s Butrint National Park. At shady Limnopoula Beach, people dived off boats. Then came Akoli, with its white sand and polished pebbles. Only in August does it get crowded; the rest of the year, it’s peaceful and even nudist-friendly. You can also reach it on foot via a 20-minute shaded path from Avlaki. With an infinity pool and its own private dock, Villa Yeraki is ideal for a family holiday. © Tzoulia Klimi With an infinity pool and its own private dock, Villa Yeraki is ideal for a family holiday. © Tzoulia Klimi The only downside of the region? Narrow roads that may not have been repaved for decades. Most villa guests arrive by sea, while others must endure rough drives. “At least there’s no traffic yet,” says Nicholas Cookson, whose family was among the first to buy a villa here – the stunning Yeraki. In 1972, the Cooksons founded CV Travel (Corfu Villas), the island’s first villa rental agency, serving aristocrats, doctors and lawyers. The company was sold in 2000, but locals still praise the family’s contribution. “We owe the area’s recognition to Patricia Cookson,” says Spyros Flambouriaris, London resident and owner of Hotel Cavalieri in Corfu Town. “It’s a small world. Our clients are all somehow connected – through their children, their friends, or their wider social circles,” says Cookson, who launched Villa Collective in 2016. A seasoned expert, he speaks passionately about the September charity swim across the three-kilometer channel between Greece and Albania – with British, Corfiot, Albanian and other participants. Last year, the event raised awareness for marine conservation in the Ionian Sea; another year, it supported the Smile of the Child foundation. The tavernas along these small beaches offer a level of quality rarely found on other islands. Personally, I could live off the fresh, juicy calamari at Eucalyptus in Aghios Stefanos, although Yiannis’ taverna in Krouzeri gives them stiff competition. I’d eat the velvety taramosalata from Galini daily and walk barefoot to Kerasia’s taverna for the best briam (baked vegetables) on the island. For drinks, check out Damianos in Aghios Stefanos, and Limani, Harbour Bar and Illusions at the port of Kassiopi. Trump Demands ‘Major Investigation’ Into 4 Huge Stars In Middle-Of-The-Night Meltdown Trump Demands ‘Major Investigation’ Into 4 Huge Stars In Middle-Of-The-Night Meltdown President Donald Trump on Monday launched a new attack on rock legend Bruce Springsteen along with several other major celebrities during a middle-of-the-night rant on his Truth Social website. “HOW MUCH DID KAMALA HARRIS PAY BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN FOR HIS POOR PERFORMANCE DURING HER CAMPAIGN FOR PRESIDENT?” he wrote in all caps. “WHY DID HE ACCEPT THAT MONEY IF HE IS SUCH A FAN OF HERS? ISN’T THAT A MAJOR AND ******** CAMPAIGN CONTRIBUTION?” He also attacked Beyonce, Oprah Winfrey and Bono, claiming they were all paid to endorse Harris during last year’s presidential election. “I am going to call for a major investigation into this matter. Candidates aren’t allowed to pay for ENDORSEMENTS, which is what Kamala did, under the guise of paying for entertainment,” he wrote shortly after 1:30 am ET: Donald Trump on Truth Social Donald Trump Trump has repeatedly claimed that celebrities were paid to endorse Harris, but those figures have denied it. Winfrey, for example, said she was “not paid a dime” and that the $1 million paid to her Harpo Productions was the cost of production for the event, including equipment and workers. The Harris campaign told Variety that they are legally required to pay for all such costs and services. Beyonce’s mother, Tina Knowles, similarly said the superstar entertainer “did not receive a penny” and in fact traveled to a Harris event at her own expense. Trump’s latest attack on the celebrities is part of a multi-day meltdown triggered by Springsteen, who said during a performance in the *** last week that the United States “is currently in the hands of a corrupt, incompetent and treasonous administration.” He also posted those comments on his website. Trump fired back with a post calling the rocker “highly overrated” and “a pushy, obnoxious JERK.” He also warned Springsteen to “KEEP HIS MOUTH SHUT until he gets back into the Country.” The Boss didn’t back down: He repeated his comments during his next show. Consumer Sentiment Speaks: Are Mom and Pop All In? Consumer Sentiment Speaks: Are Mom and Pop All In? Oftentimes, people view the market as more of a mystery than it really has to be. When you break the market down into its most simplistic perspective, then you recognize that markets top when everyone is in, and markets bottom when everyone that wants to sell has sold. In other words, when markets reach an extreme in bullishness, the market tops, and when it reaches an extreme in bearishness, the market bottoms. Alan Greenspan once noted something similar when he stated: “It’s only when the markets are perceived to have exhausted themselves on the downside that they turn.” But, the more difficult part of this analysis is in determining when those extremes are reached. To this end, we utilize Elliott Wave analysis to determine when a market is reaching an extreme of bullishness. And, we are almost there. This past week, I was honored to give a keynote address at the MoneyShow in Miami. What became quite clear to me early on was that the bullishness of speakers and attendees alike was quite ubiquitous. In fact, I heard several other speakers who many would see on television use the word “certain” in their view of the market heading much higher. I may have been the only one who even discussed the potential for a major bear market on the horizon. Now, before you mistake me for a perma-bear, please keep in mind that I was called a perma-bull when I advised in public articles to go long the at 2200 in 2020, and then again at 3500 in 2022. As my clients have said, I am not a perma-bear, and I am not a perma-bull. I am simply perma-profit. As I said at the start of this missive, when the market gets too bullish, we strike a major market top. And, based upon the following chart from the Fed, it looks like everyone is piling into the stock market at historic proportions. But, as I also said earlier, while this chart is more anecdotal in nature, and cannot tell us anything other than the market is likely approaching a top of major proportions, we utilize Elliott Wave analysis to tell us if the market has indeed struck a major top already. Interestingly, the last major top which was struck in the market was the 2000 market high. That led us to a 9-year market correction, which completed at the lows of the 2008-09 market ******. Since that market correction is one degree smaller than the one I am expecting to begin on the horizon, I believe it is reasonable to expect the next correction to last longer than the 9-year correction that began in 2000. So, let’s discuss what we are looking for in our analysis to confirm when a top is struck. First, allow me to explain the basics of Elliott Wave analysis. Back in the 1930s, there was a gentleman named Ralph Nelson Elliott who identified that the stock market represented the unconscious, non-rational reactions of society, which follow a repeating fractal pattern, which means they move in variably self-similar patterns at all degrees of trend. This repeating fractal pattern represents overall societal sentiment which is governed by the natural law of the universe as represented through Fibonacci Mathematics. Now, to be clear, people often mistake what I am saying as meaning that the patterns are what drive society. But, the truth is that the patterns represent the social mood of society en masse, and it is that societal sentiment that causes these fractal patterns we see in the market. Most specifically, Elliott theorized that public sentiment and mass psychology move in 5 waves within a primary trend, and 3 waves within a counter-trend. Once a 5 wave move in public sentiment has completed, then it is time for the subconscious sentiment of the public to shift in the opposite direction, which is simply the natural cycle within the human psyche, and not the operative effect of some form of “news.” So, at this time, I am quite intent on watching the next pullback in the market. You see, if the market provides us with a 5-wave decline, then that is an initial signal that a major market top has potentially been struck. If we then set up a decline to break down below the April low of 4835SPX, then this should confirm that a long-term bear market has likely begun, and we are on our way to the 3500-3800 SPX region to complete the first leg down in this long-term bear market that I am expecting. However, if the next pullback in the market is clearly a corrective 3-wave pullback, then we will begin to prepare for a rally that will likely take us north of 6200SPX as we look out into later this year. But, even so, we may still be rangebound until the end of the summer before a major break out is seen. One way or another, whether we get that one more rally or not, in the big picture I am foreseeing a major bear market beginning on the horizon. And, the anecdotal evidence of retail piling into this market with their money is certainly supporting my proposition. Independent Nicolette Boele ahead in critical seat of Bradfield by 40 votes as electoral watchdog flags recount Independent Nicolette Boele ahead in critical seat of Bradfield by 40 votes as electoral watchdog flags recount Independent teal candidate Nicolette Boele has edged ahead in the race for the seat of Bradfield by just 40 votes – triggering a bombshell update from the electoral watchdog as the Liberals’ purported victory is put into play. Ms Boele’s opponent, Liberal Gisele Kapterian, was last week on track to win the longtime blue-ribbon seat for the party. But the latest vote count on Monday evening has now flipped the climate-backed Teal back into the lead by a razor-thin margin of 40 votes. Ms Boele has secured 56,233 votes, while Ms Kapterian sits at 56,191. I didn’t quite think I’d get such a close look at the institutions underpinning our democracy, but seeing the AEC operate over the past few weeks, I’m glad we live in Australia. That’s the power of independents and I thank our 1,450 volunteers for the years of hard work it took to get here.” Source link #Independent #Nicolette #Boele #ahead #critical #seat #Bradfield #votes #electoral #watchdog #flags #recount Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content]
