Quantum experiments may soon reveal the answer Different interpretations of quantum mechanics pose philosophical problems Pobytov/Getty Images Does quantum physics place limits on the extent to which we have free will? This long-debated question stems from the way different physicists interpret the mathematics of quantum theory, but now researchers say they have come up with a way to test the idea and finally settle the matter. “Everyone has their own opinion on what is going on behind quantum theory. But it shouldn’t matter what we think; the only thing that matters is what we can prove through mathematics and through experiments. 2. Acer Predator Connect T7 Wi-Fi 7 Mesh Router: super-fast Wi-Fi 7 router for hardcore gamers Acer Predator Connect T7 Wi-Fi 7 Mesh Router: super-fast Wi-Fi 7 router for hardcore gamers Why you can trust TechRadar We spend hours testing every product or service we review, so you can be sure you’re buying the best. Find out more about how we test. Predator Connect T7 Wi-Fi 7 Mesh Router: One-Minute Review Acer is well-known for its Predator range of gaming PCs and displays, but the company also makes a number of Wi-Fi routers and mesh systems that are designed for gaming as well. There are several models in the Predator range, including some very affordable Wi-Fi 6 routers, but at the top of the range is the blazing fast Predator Connect T7 Mesh Router, which Acer claims can provide ‘wired-level latency’ for serious gamers with lightning fast reflexes, potentially making it one of the best gaming routers money can buy. Its rigidly rectangular design may not be much to look at, but the T7 provides state-of-the-art Wi-Fi performance, with tri-band Wi-Fi 7 that offers a top speed of 11Gbps. And, as the name suggests, you can buy additional T7 routers and use them together to create a far-reaching mesh wi-fi system for larger homes. Admittedly, those features will probably be overkill for many people – especially if you’re still using older computers and mobile devices that don’t have full support for Wi-Fi 7 – but the T7 is competitively priced for a high-end router, and will certainly appeal to the hard-core gaming audience. You may like Predator Connect T7 Wi-Fi 7 Mesh Router: Price And Availability How much does it cost? $329.99/£236.22/AU$699 When is it available? Now Where can you get it? Available in the US, ***, and Australia Tracking down Acer products can sometimes be a little tricky, as it often relies on third-party retailers to stock its products. Customers in the US are fortunate as they can buy the T7 direct from Acer’s own website for $329.99, which is a similar price to Netgear’s Nighthawk RS300 that runs at 9.3GBps. We were also pleased to find that the T7 doesn’t require an additional subscription for parental controls and security features, so it’s certainly competitively priced for such a high-end model. Customers in the ***, Australia and other regions will have to look around online, with the T7 selling for £236.22/AU$699 on Amazon and other sites. Predator Connect T7 Wi-Fi 7 Mesh Router: Design (Image credit: Future) Mini-tower design, available in ****** or white 2.5Gb Ethernet for broadband connection 2x Gigabit Ethernet for wired (LAN) connections The T7 has a fairly subdued design for a gaming router. You do get a choice of a ****** or white for the main casing, and there’s a stylised ‘mask’ LED on the top panel, but this is primarily used to provide status information, and the T7 doesn’t have the over-the-top RGB lighting and effects offered by some of its gaming rivals. Instead, the T7 opts for a rather staid rectangular obelisk that stands an imposing 212mm high, so you’ll need a shelf or table with quite a bit of room available when you’re setting it up. One minor oddity is that the On/Off switch is cunningly hidden on the base of the router, while the power connector is more visible on the back panel. The Quickstart guide and the longer PDF manual that we downloaded from Acer’s website both fail to mention this, simply telling you to plug in the power connector and then download the Predator app. That left me wondering why the router wasn’t working when I first plugged it in – until I turned it upside down and found the power switch lurking below. The back panel isn’t exactly overflowing with other ports and connectors, either. There’s a 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet port for a high-speed broadband connection, but it’s disappointing that such a high-end router only includes two 1Gb Ethernet ports to provide a wired connection for a PC or games console. There’s a USB-C port on the back as well, which will allow you to connect a hard drive or other storage device to you network. Again, though, this only supports the aging USB 2.0 standard, which is disappointing. Predator Connect T7 Wi-Fi 7 Mesh Router: Features It’s also slightly irritating that you’re forced to create an account with Acer before you can use the Predator Connect app to get started. However, the app does provide a number of useful features that will appeal to gamers and more experienced users. Many routers aimed at a more general audience will try to keep things simply by merging the router’s different frequency bands into a single network, but the T7 creates three separate networks using the 2.4GHz, 5.0GHz and 6.0GHz bands. This allows you to reserve the high-speed 6.0GHz band for gaming, while you connect other devices to the 2.4GHz or 5.0GHz bands. There’s a QoS option – quality of service – that allows you to prioritise high-bandwidth tasks such as gaming or streaming video for specific devices. The T7 even provides useful security features and parental controls without requiring an additional subscription as some of its rivals do. The app is a little jargon-heavy at times, and if you don’t know what ‘band steering’ or ‘NAT acceleration’ mean then you might struggle with the app at times. Acer’s manual also makes the rookie mistake of simply listing features without really explaining how they work, so you will need a bit of network know-how to make the most of the Predator app. Predator Connect T7 Wi-Fi 7 Mesh Router: Performance Image 1 of 3 (Image credit: Future) (Image credit: Future) (Image credit: Future) Tri-band Wi-Fi 7 Top speed of 11Gbps QoS to prioritise gaming Predator Connect T7 Wi-Fi 7 Mesh Router: Specifications Wi-Fi: tri-band Wi-Fi 7 (2.4GHz, 5.0GHz, 6.0GHz) Wi-Fi Speed: 11Gbps Ports: 1x 2.5Gb Ethernet (WAN), 2x Gigabit Ethernet (LAN), 1x USB-C (2.0) Processor: Quad-core ARM Cortex @ 1.5GHz Memory: 1GB RAM Storage: 512MB Flash Dimensions: 212 x 109 x 109mm, 0.9kg Predator Connect T7 Wi-Fi 7 Mesh Router: Benchmarks Ookla Speed Test – 2.4GHz (download/upload) Within 5ft, no obstructions: 125Mbps/125Mbps Within 30ft, three partition walls: 125Mbps/125Mbps 20GB Steam Download – 2.4GHz Within 5ft, no obstructions: 125Mbps Within 30ft, three partition walls: 125Mbps Ookla Speed Test – 5.0GHz (download/upload) Within 5ft, no obstructions: 150Mbps/150Mbps Within 30ft, three partition walls: 150Mbps/150Mbps 20GB Steam Download – 5.0GHz Within 5ft, no obstructions: 150Mbps Within 30ft, three partition walls: 150Mbps Ookla Speed Test – 6.0GHz (download/upload) Within 5ft, no obstructions: 150Mbps/150Mbps Within 30ft, three partition walls: 150Mbps/150Mbps 20GB Steam Download – 6.0GHz Within 5ft, no obstructions: 150Mbps Within 30ft, three partition walls: 150Mbps The T7 creates three networks on different frequency bands, but with its top speed of 11Gbps it comes as no surprise to find that it walks all over my aging office router even on the slowest 2.4GHz band. Our office Internet service provides a top speed of 150Mbps, but my normal router can only manage 80Mbps on the 2.4GHz band when running the Ookla speed test even for devices that are close by in the same room as the router. Steam downloads are even worse with a sustained speed of only 40Mbps. The 5.0GHz band is slightly better but can still only manage 120Mbps on the Ookla speed test, and 100Mbps for Steam downloads. Even worse is the fact that both frequency bands struggle to reach an office at the back of the building, forcing me to use Ethernet cables to provide a wired connection instead. Unsurprisingly, the T7 takes this in its stride. Its slower 2.4GHz band hits 125Mbps for both Ookla and Steam downloads in both locations, while the 5.0GHz and 6.0GHz bands simply shrug their shoulders and give us a pitying look as they breeze along at the maximum speed of 150Mbps even in our back office deadzone. Admittedly, the T7’s top speed of 11Gbps will be massive overkill for many homes, but if you’re a keen gamer who wants fast, lag-free Wi-Fi for competitive gaming, then the Predator T7 is hard to beat. Then again, it’s a router that’s not strictly going to be for today’s gaming (or business) market, but for the near future (or enthusiasts) instead. If you want to be on the cutting edge, you can be for a price. (Image credit: Future) Swipe to scroll horizontally Should you buy the Predator Connect T7? Category Verdict Score Value Wi-Fi 7 routers are still relatively expensive, but the T7 is competitively priced for a high-end tri-band router. 4/5 Design The design is fairly staid, but we’re more concerned about the limited selection of ports available for wired connections. 3/5 Features Acer’s app can be a bit full of jargon at times, but its tri-band networking features will appeal to serious gamers. 4/5 Performance A speed of 11Gbps is completely over-the-top for most users, but it’s ideal for the latest gaming rigs that support Wi-Fi 7. 5/5 Overall Wired connectivity could be improved, and the Acer app isn’t very user-friendly, but the T7’s Wi-Fi performance is hard to beat, and it won’t break the bank either. 4/5 Buy it if… Don’t buy it if… Predator Connect T7: Also consider Source link #Acer #Predator #Connect #WiFi #Mesh #Router #superfast #WiFi #router #hardcore #gamers Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content] For verified travel tips and real support, visit: [Hidden Content]
  3. Man wrongly identified as driver speaks out Man wrongly identified as driver speaks out Vinnie O’Dowd & Adam Hale BBC News Marianna Spring BBC Disinformation reporter BBC Peter Cunningham had his picture circulated online in the aftermath of the incident A man wrongly identified on social media as being the driver of a car which ploughed into crowds of people in Liverpool says he has moved his children out of their home because he fears for their safety. Peter Cunningham, 54, had his picture circulated online after the incident on Monday, when 79 people were injured while celebrating Liverpool’s Premier League victory. Police have been granted more time to question the suspected driver of the Ford Galaxy that hit pedestrians at the parade – a 53-year-old man from West Derby in Liverpool who has not been named. Water Street, where the incident happened, reopened on Wednesday morning. Seven people remain in a stable condition in hospital. Reuters Water Street was reopened to pedestrians and traffic on Wednesday after a police cordon was removed Peter Cunningham, from Huyton in Liverpool, told the BBC on Wednesday that he had been with his children along the parade route about four miles (6.4km) away from Water Street at the time of the incident, which he didn’t find out about until he got home. He said of the false accusations: “It’s not me. I’m in work – the police need to give the [suspect’s] name out because I’m getting accused. “Family members and friends are ringing and asking me, but it could get a whole lot worse. The police need to do something. “I was down Queens Drive with my children. I’m in a completely different car anyway, I’ve got a Hyundai. “I wouldn’t go into town because I knew it was too chocka to go up there with the girls.” When asked if he was fearful of an attack due to the viral post about him, Mr Cunningham said: “It can still put me at great harm, I’ve had to move my children to a different house today because we’re that nervous.” Reuters Police say they have now identified 79 people who were injured, seven of whom remain in hospital Research by BBC Verify found the name Peter Cunningham was mentioned by a user on X on Monday evening, in response to a post enquiring about the identity of the suspect. On Tuesday night, an Instagram post with an image of Mr Cunningham was shared by a user claiming to be based in Liverpool, along with the false claim that it was the first photo of the suspect. This same image appears on Mr Cunningham’s own Facebook profile. The Instagram post featuring Mr Cunningham’s picture – which has also been shared on Facebook – has now been deleted. The BBC’s disinformation and social media correspondent Marianna Spring said false accusations about the identities of suspects can flood social media following high-profile attacks or incidents. “The problem is exacerbated by the limitations police forces face when it comes to releasing more information about a suspect when they’re yet to be charged,” she said. “Ultimately, there are few repercussions for those sharing these defamatory posts online. The impact is principally felt by the person whose reputation is dragged through the virtual mud, as worried family and friends watch on. “And it’s yet another example where some of the social media sites take little to no action over what’s posted on their platforms – principally because they don’t know the facts either, but also because they have relaxed their policies to deal with disinformation and abuse.” Reuters Police say they are using CCTV to establish the movements of the Ford Galaxy before it ploughed into the crowds Merseyside Police said in an update on Wednesday that it had been granted more time to question the suspect following a previous extension, which will remain in place until Thursday. Police do not ordinarily name a suspect before they are charged, and Merseyside Police have urged people not to speculate on the identity of the man in custody. The arrest was made shortly after 18:00 BST on Monday, and police usually have 24 hours to question a suspect in custody before they have to either charge them or let them go. People suspected of terrorism offences can be held for up to a fortnight without a charge, but police have ruled out terrorism in this case. Det Supt Rachel Wilson said the force was making “significant progress” to establish the “full circumstances that led to what happened”, with CCTV being used to track the movements of the car before it hit the crowds. “I’m pleased to say that the number of people in hospital is reducing as they continue to recover from the awful incident,” she said. “We continue to support those still receiving treatment and, as part of our ongoing enquiries, we are identifying more people who were injured.” Additional reporting by BBC Verify Source link #Man #wrongly #identified #driver #speaks Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content] For verified travel tips and real support, visit: [Hidden Content]
  4. MindsEye Dev Claims There’s A “Concerted Effort” To Trash This GTA-Like Game MindsEye Dev Claims There’s A “Concerted Effort” To Trash This GTA-Like Game Former Grand Theft Auto lead developer Leslie Benzies had an ugly exit from Rockstar Games nearly a decade ago when he sued its parent company, Take-Two Interactive. Benzies subsequently co-founded Build a Rocket Boy and developed a GTA-like game called MindsEye, which is releasing next month. Now, Build a Rocket Boy co-CEO Mark Gerhard has suggested that the bad word of mouth about MindsEye is part of a “concerted effort” to trash the game and his studio. Gerhard recently took part in a Q&A session on Discord (via IGN), where he agreed with the potentially explosive allegation that the negative responses to the game “were financed by someone.” Gerhard’s response to that suggestion was, “100%… Doesn’t take much to guess who.” Although Gerhard didn’t back down from his initial implication, he later clarified that he isn’t accusing any specific players of being paid to bad mouth the game. “I just said that there is a concerted effort by some people that don’t want to see Leslie or Build A Rocket Boy to be successful that are making a concerted effort to trash the game and the studio. Its [sic] pretty easy to see the bots and the repeated replies to any content that we put out.” Gerhard went on to suggest that “there are bot farms posting negative comments and dislikes” for MindsEye, but didn’t elaborate beyond that. MindsEye will be released on June 10 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. The game puts players in control of Jacob Diaz, a former soldier who has a implant in his head that’s called the MindsEye. That device gives Jacob the ability to control drones and a few other tricks. It also shows him glimpses of a mission he can’t remember, which results in an unknown faction attempting to kill him before he can piece that part of his past together. 5. Call Of Duty’s Next Crossover Is One We Did Not Expect Call Of Duty’s Next Crossover Is One We Did Not Expect Call of Duty: Mobile’s latest crossover event is coming soon, and it’s not what we expected. The mobile shooter is getting a Nie: Automata crossover beginning May 30, promising a range of themed items based on the franchise for Call of Duty players. In the Nier crossover, players take control of the YorHa Unit as they fight against Machine Lifeforms, Activision said in the announcement. Players can complete objectives in the game to earn rewards, including the Kui Ji – YoRHa No. 9 Type S operator. Four new NieR-themed melee weapons are included in the crossover event, too, along with the AK-47 Final Apocalypact weapon. Check out the trailer below to get a closer look at the Nier crossover. Call of Duty: Mobile is developed by Tencent’s TiMi Studios. It currently operates alongside Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile, but that game was recently removed from mobile marketplaces as Activision winds it down. Activision had high hopes for the game, but reports suggest it’s making a fraction of the money that Call of Duty: Mobile brings in. Call of Duty: Mobile is not connected to Call of Duty: ****** Ops 6 or Warzone, so it’s not clear if the NieR crossover could come to those games. What is confirmed, however, is that the new Call of Duty Season 4 update is adding a John Wick / Ballerina crossover. The Season 4 update lands May 29. As for the Nier series, the latest entry in the series was 2017’s Nier: Automata. No new entries in the franchise have been announced. 6. Peel Thunder’s Michael Sellwood becomes the first WAFL player picked up in the mid-season rookie draft Peel Thunder’s Michael Sellwood becomes the first WAFL player picked up in the mid-season rookie draft Peel Thunder defender Michael Sellwood was one of four West ***********-based players to be taken in tonight’s mid-season draft. The football dreams of Sellwood, East Fremantle’s Lachie Blakiston and Victorian WAFL recruits Roan Steele and Archer May all came true on Wednesday. And some of them could be playing sooner rather than later. SEE EVERY PLAYER SELECTED IN THE AFL’S MID-SEASON DRAFT Sellwood is a Thunder premiership player who has developed into one of the top defenders in the State League competition. He was the first West Aussie taken in the draft and landed at the Western Bulldogs with pick five. Subiaco key forward May was then taken by Essendon with pick six and the Bombers also took East Fremantle ruckman Lachie Blakiston — a 26-year-old who was playing reserves as recently as last year — among four selections. The injury crisis that has ripped through the Bombers’ tall stocks means that both players could be in the mix to debut in coming weeks. Camera IconSubiaco forward Archer May has been picked up in the AFL mid-season rookie draft. Credit: Ross Swanborough/The West *********** Roan Steele, a former gun VFL wingman who joined West Perth this season, became a Collingwood player this evening with pick eight. Sellwood had also met with Port Adelaide as recently as their trip to Perth to play Fremantle at the weekend, but he was never getting past the Western Bulldogs’ first selection. The 21-year-old has played in a Thunder backline that has often included experienced Dockers players like Ethan Hughes, Oscar McDonald and James Aish. He said that has been the “massive” change in his career after being overlooked in a series of drafts. “Massive. I couldn’t thank Peel enough and the opportunity they’ve given me, that’s probably the reason I’m drafted, because I’m playing with people that are at the AFL level and getting tips and tricks off them,” Sellwood told The West ***********. “It’s just unbelievable.” Sellwood’s family broke down in tears and a group of mates were by his side when his name was read out. “I’m really overwhelmed, as soon as it happened I had the family and stuff around me and it was very overwhelming,” he said. “I’m so excited and ready to go, it’s bloody unbelievable, that’s for sure.” Camera IconPeel Thunder defender Michael Sellwood has been picked up in the AFL mid-season draft. Credit: Daniel Wilkins/The West *********** The 43-game Thunder player said he wasn’t expecting to play immediately in a high-functioning Bulldogs backline, but was ready if an early opportunity came his way. “I 100 per cent do. I know Bulldogs are a strong side, they’ve got some really good players, especially in the backline, so my expectations aren’t to play straight away, I’ve just got to earn my stripes and play some good footy, whether that’s in the VFL,” Sellwood said. “You’ve just got to play your stuff and it sort of goes from there.” There had been speculation Essendon’s mid-season draft recruits could even be given a special dispensation to play in their clash with Brisbane at the Gabba tonight. With first-choice ruck Sam Draper and his deputy Nick Bryan both injured, Brad Scott has called on 36-year-old servant Todd Goldstein to ruck in the club’s past five matches. It means Blakiston is well-positioned to make a debut to relieve the veteran. Blakiston was playing Perth Football League for Cockburn as recently as 2021. He tried his hand in the WAFL with South Fremantle and played 10 games in the reserves before shifting to East Fremantle. He made his league debut and played just one game in the seniors in 2023, then 13 last year. In his three games this season he has became one of the WAFL’s most impressive ruckman. Camera IconLachlan Blakiston Credit: Phil Hevron And he even admitted he thought his AFL hopes had come and gone last season. “I am a bit lost for words to be honest. I cannot believe it’s happened, I’m seriously just speechless,” Blakiston told The West. “I definitely thought my opportunity to get to the next level is not as likely as it was last year but there’s always hope when I was tracking the way I was. “At the trajectory I am on there’s no reason I couldn’t conquer AFL. The challenge and opportunity really excited me and I look forward to it.” At the Cockburn Cobras, he was mentored by West Coast 2006 premiership player Mark Seaby, who came to the bench at the end of a 2019 grand final so that Blakiston could finish the game on the ground. “I played with Mark in 2019 and in my time at the Cobras he was very supportive and always offering me tips,” Blakiston said. “One thing that stuck with me was when we played in the premiership he was on the ground and I was on the bench and he ran off to let me be on the ground for the final siren. I will never forget that.” May was swamped by Subiaco teammates when he became an Essendon player. The key forward was preparing for training with the Lions during the draft and still took to the Leederville Oval track on Wednesday night, The 20-year-old has Hawthorn legend Dermott Brereton — who is his mother’s partner — in his corner. Steele shifted from the VFL — where he was an established player for the Melbourne-affiliated Casey Demons — for a fresh footy start with West Perth. Camera IconWest Perth midfielder Roan Steele. Credit: Blake Parry/The Sports Photo Collingwood came knocking after a blistering start to the season. And the Magpies are another injury-stretched side who could call on the wingman in the back-end of a campaign where are they are likely to feature at the pointy-end. “In hindsight (the move west) is justified now, the dream has come true. I was pretty happy moving over here for the experience whether it happened or not in terms of being on an AFL list,” Steele said. “Now that the dream has come true, hindsight shows that it’s justified a little bit for sure. “It shows that it’s not as far away as you think.” The WA heartbreak story of the draft was East Fremantle star and three-time Simpson medallist Milan Murdock. The West *********** revealed on Tuesday the midfielder had an 11th-hour meeting with West Coast after they decided to place Jake Waterman on the inactive list to open up another draft selection. Camera IconEast Fremantle star Milan Murdock was the heartbreak story. Credit: Phil Hevron The Eagles overlooked him for South *********** bolter Jacob Newton. North Melbourne cashed in on their long-held interest in Zac Banch, who continued Werribee’s strong recent history of turning mature-aged players into AFL talents. The Kangaroos took the VFL gun with pick two, before South *********** local Harrison Ramm landed at Port Adelaide from Glenelg and Carlton picked another Werribbee product in Flynn Young. Former St Kilda player Oscar Adams, who shifted to Glenelg and won a SANFL premiership last season, was given a lifeline in the league by Gold Coast. The Roos also elevated Cooper Trembath from their own VFL side, while the Power stuck local with North Adelaide gun Ewan Mackinlay and Central District’s Mani Liddy, while the Western Bulldogs took Gippsland product Zac Walker. Essendon were the only side to take a player in the fourth line, drafting Oskar Smartt. 9. Persona 4 Voice Actor Says He Wasn’t Invited Back For A Still-Unannounced Remake Persona 4 Voice Actor Says He Wasn’t Invited Back For A Still-Unannounced Remake Yuri Lowenthal, a voice actor who portrayed Yosuke Hanamura in Persona 4, seemingly revealed that a Persona 4 remake was in the works in a Bluesky post about not being invited back. Atlus has still not confirmed a remake of this RPG classic is in the works. “And for those who keep asking, no, I will not be returning as Yosuke for the Persona 4 remake,” Lowenthal remarked on Bluesky. “I asked. Maybe I even begged, but they don’t want me to come back.” Rumors of a Persona 4 remake have been swirling ever since Persona 3 Reload launched last February. These rumors have gained traction in recent months, with leakers like extas1s claiming that it will be revealed during the Xbox Games Showcase. Atlus has not commented on these rumors at all, though, so Lowenthal’s comments are the first we’ve heard about a Persona 4 remake from anyone who could potentially be in the know about it. If true, it’s disappointing to hear that Lownethal won’t return to portray Yosuke in a potential remake of Persona 4. It would line up with Atlus’ approach to voice acting for Persona 3 Reload, as no voice actors from the original portrayed their characters in that remake either. Lownethal’s comments suggest that this is a deliberate choice on Atlus’ part, not related to voice actor availability, and that other Persona 4 voice actors also won’t be returning to portray their iconic characters. If the rumors are true and a Persona 4 remake is real, it seems like Atlus could reveal it during the Xbox Games Showcase on June 8. Fans of classic RPGs also have Dragon Quest 1+2 HD-2D Remake to look forward to this year. 12. Switch 2 Leakers Beware, Nintendo Knows How To Find You Switch 2 Leakers Beware, Nintendo Knows How To Find You Switch 2 stock has begun filtering into stores worldwide, and naturally, this has led to some leaks around the new Nintendo console. While there’s not much that can be done with the console right now–it reportedly requires a day-one update to function properly–it looks like some people have managed to slip some stock out of shops ahead of the official June 5 release date. Unfortunately for those people, Nintendo has a very specific set of skills acquired over a very long time in the gaming industry, and it will use them to hunt down those leakers. That’s according to former Nintendo Minute series hosts Kit Ellis and Krysta Yang, who explained in a new video how Nintendo has become adept over the years at tracking down leakers, dating all the way back to the original Switch. “It was like code red, to find out what happened,” Ellis said in reference to the original Switch console and its menu being shown off prior to its launch in 2017. “The interesting thing is, they can get pretty precise of finding where this is, who this is, like, what store. These things get scanned and identified, and there are so many little identifiers that you might not even think of. They will find out who it is. While Nintendo does convey a family-friendly image, the company is also notorious for the lengths it’ll go to when protecting its IP. Recently, the company issued a subpoena request to a California court, and if approved, it will require Discord to provide Nintendo the identity of the Pokemon Teraleaker who revealed information about Game Freak and The Pokemon Company’s upcoming projects. Other notable examples of Nintendo going over people or organizations it deems a threat to its business include Gary Bowser being arrested on federal charges for taking part in creating and selling tools to hack video game consoles like the Switch, and website operator Dstorage was found liable for failing to remove pirated Nintendo games from the website. 14. *** weather: ‘Mini heatwave’ forecast as temperatures to hit 26C *** weather: ‘Mini heatwave’ forecast as temperatures to hit 26C The forecast higher temperatures are down to a weak ridge of high pressure that will build over the south of the ***. In the warmest areas, temperatures are expected to reach 23C on Thursday, climbing to 25C on Friday and 26C on Saturday. Is this a heatwave? To officially classify as one, temperatures must exceed a specific threshold for three consecutive days. This threshold varies across the *** by region but typically ranges between 25C and 28C (77F to 82F). We probably will not see temperatures reach the heatwave threshold anywhere, and certainly not for three consecutive days – therefore it is definitely not going to be a heatwave. The highest temperature recorded this May also looks well out of reach. Well, is it a mini-heatwave then? Meteorologists do not have an official definition for a “mini-heatwave,” so it is not a term we use to describe the weather. We would be more likely to refer to it as “a few warm days”. Meanwhile low pressure will continue to bring rain and showers to northern England, Scotland and Northern Ireland over the next few days. Temperatures will remain slightly above the May average, and it will feel pleasant whenever the Sun breaks through the clouds. 15. Harvard to relinquish slave photos to resolve descendant’s lawsuit Harvard to relinquish slave photos to resolve descendant’s lawsuit By Nate Raymond BOSTON (Reuters) -Harvard University has agreed to give up ownership of photos of an enslaved father and his daughter who were forced to be photographed in 1850 for a racist study by a professor trying to prove the inferiority of ****** people to resolve a lawsuit by one of their descendants. The settlement was announced on Wednesday by the legal team representing Tamara Lanier, who had waged a six-year legal battle over what she alleged was its wrongful claim of ownership over photos that were taken without her ancestors’ consent. The two photos will not go to Lanier as part of the settlement, but instead will be turned over along with pictures of five other enslaved people to the International African American Museum in Charleston, South Carolina. The settlement was first reported by the New York Times and confirmed by a spokesperson for Lanier’s legal team. Cambridge, Massachusetts-based Harvard did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The settlement comes at a sensitive moment for Harvard, as the university fights in court against efforts by Republican President Donald Trump’s administration to terminate billions of dollars in grant funding and end its ability to enroll foreign students. The lawsuit concerned images that depict Renty Taylor and his daughter Delia, slaves on a South Carolina plantation who were forced to disrobe for photos taken for a racist study by Harvard Professor Louis Agassiz. The photos were being kept at the Peabody Museum of Archaeology and Ethnology on Harvard’s campus when Lanier, a descendant of Taylor, sued in 2019. A state court judge in Massachusetts initially dismissed the case. But the state’s highest court revived it in 2022, saying she had plausibly alleged that Harvard was negligent and had recklessly caused her to suffer emotional distress. Justice Scott Kafker, writing for the court at the time, said Harvard had “cavalierly” dismissed Lanier’s claims of an ancestral link and disregarded her requests for information about how it was using the images, including when the school used Renty Taylor’s image on a book cover. He said Harvard’s complicity in the “horrific” creation of the pictures meant it had “responsibilities to the descendants of the individuals coerced into having their half-naked images captured in the daguerreotypes.” (Reporting by Nate Raymond in Boston; Editing by Alexia Garamfalvi and Daniel Wallis) Source link #Harvard #relinquish #slave #photos #resolve #descendants #lawsuit Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content]

  18. TSMC to open up chip design center in Munich to help local chip developers TSMC to open up chip design center in Munich to help local chip developers TSMC is set to open its first chip design center in Munich, Germany, in a bid to help local and European chip developers optimize their designs to its process technology, the company announced at its European Technology Symposium in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. The facility in Munich will perform multiple functions to simplify the implementation of chips on its process technologies, as well as helping partners on system-level design. Essentially, the center’s competencies will span from basic assistance in the development of tiny microcontroller units (MCUs) made using mature process technologies for the automotive industry to design technology optimization (DTCO) of advanced processors for AI and HPC applications that rely on leading-edge production nodes. “We want to bring the best support to the European customer,” said Kevin Zhang, Deputy Co-COO and Senior Vice President of Business Development and Global Sales, at the event. “Here we want to have the design team to be able to directly work with the customer under our fab here, so we can bridge the product design and the manufacturing together. Lots of time we use the term DTCO — design technology co-optimization — [so that is what we are going to do in Munich]. You may like The development center in Munich will be the company’s 10th facility of this kind, but the first one in Europe, which highlights the revival of European chip development in particular and the semiconductor industry in general. TSMC already has nine chip design centers across the world that are located in Canada, China, Japan, Taiwan, and the U.S. In addition, the world’s largest contract maker of chips has Design Center Alliance (DCA) — a global network of companies — that provide chip implementation services as well as system-level design solutions. Ultimately, these companies can even design chips to order, something that TSMC’s own design centers are not meant to do. TSMC — along with its partners Bosch, Infineon, and NXP — is currently building its first fab in Europe. The fab, which will be capable of building chips on TSMC’s N12 and N16 (12nm and 16nm-class), is mainly aimed at MCUs, but will certainly make other types of chips. To perform and yield optimally, all chips nowadays require design optimizations that may go beyond what EDA software offers, which is why TSMC needs its design center in Europe. “It is not like you bring the technology there and you can do manufacturing for the rest of your life,” said Zhang. “That does not work that way. You need to work closely with your end customer to continue to make an improvement. So, by having a design team right here in the heart of the semiconductor land in Europe, we can bridge the customer and the technology manufacturing closer.” Get Tom’s Hardware’s best news and in-depth reviews, straight to your inbox. 19. Persona 4 actor seemingly confirms remake by saying Atlus doesn’t want to hire him for it Persona 4 actor seemingly confirms remake by saying Atlus doesn’t want to hire him for it Persona 4 actor Yuri Lowenthal has seemingly confirmed the game’s long-rumoured remake by saying Atlus isn’t casting him for it. Lowenthal, who played Yosuke Hanamura in the original game, responded to fan questions about whether or not he’d appear in a remake by saying he wouldn’t because, according to him, he’s already asked Atlus about the remake and has been told he hasn’t been cast in it. In a post on Bluesky, Lowenthal wrote: “And for those who keep asking, no, I will not be returning as Yosuke for the Persona 4 remake. I asked. Maybe I even begged, but they don’t want me to come back.” Neither ***** nor Atlus have announced a remake of Persona 4, but reports have persisted for some time that one is currently in development. The last Atlus remake, Persona 3 Reload, was released in 2024, where it was met with critical and fan acclaim. Yuri Lowenthal is a veteran voice actor, perhaps best known in video game circles as the voice of Peter Parker in Insomniac‘s Marvel’s Spider-Man series. Persona 4 was released in 2008 on the PlayStation 2, making it one of the final significant releases for the system. The game eventually came to PS3 as a PS2 classic in 2014, but a native PS3 version was never released due to Atlus focusing its resources on Persona 5. A special edition re-release of the game called Persona 4: Golden was released on PlayStation Vita in 2012. This new version, which included new content and two new social links, was very well-received when it was released and remains one of the Vita’s best-reviewed and best-selling titles. Persona 4 Golden was released on PC in 2020, and was eventually ported to Switch, PS4, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S in 2023. Kevin Dietsch | Getty Images News | Getty Images The Trump administration on Wednesday relaxed barriers in 401(k) plans to buying cryptocurrency and related digital assets like NFTs and meme coins. The Labor Department rescinded guidance put in place by the Biden-era Labor Department in 2022 that aimed to safeguard 401(k) investors from such digital assets. At the time, the Biden labor officials cautioned employers to exercise “extreme care” before making crypto and related investments available to their workers. They cited “serious concerns” about the prudence of exposing investors’ retirement savings to crypto given “significant risks of fraud, theft, and loss.” The Trump Labor Department has withdrawn that guidance in full. ‘Neither endorsing, nor disapproving of’ crypto The agency said the standard of “extreme care” cited by the Biden administration is not found in the Employee Retirement Income Security Act. “Prior to the 2022 release, the Department had usually articulated a neutral approach to particular investment types and strategies,” the Trump Labor Department said in a compliance assistance bulletin issued Wednesday. More from Personal Finance: House Republican tax bill favors the rich Some lawmakers want to defer capital gains taxes for mutual funds What the House GOP budget bill means for your money The department said that it is “neither endorsing, nor disapproving of” employers who decide that adding crypto to a 401(k) investment list is appropriate. The Labor Department’s reasoning extends to cryptocurrencies and “a wide range” of digital assets like “tokens, coins, crypto assets, and any derivatives thereof,” it said. The move comes at a time when President Trump has launched a $TRUMP meme coin that’s added billions of dollars in paper wealth to his net worth and led Democratic senators to call for an ethics probe. 21. England women: Ella Morris out of Nations League squad with knee injury England women: Ella Morris out of Nations League squad with knee injury Tottenham defender Ella Morris has pulled out of the England women squad to face Portugal in the Nations League after suffering a serious knee injury in training. The 22-year-old, who is yet to make her debut for the Lionesses, is set for a lengthy spell out after injuring her cruciate ligament. She has returned to Tottenham to begin her rehabilitation. A statement said: “England’s support team will remain in close contact with her and the club. Everyone involved with the Lionesses wishes Ella the very best with her recovery.” Fifa is funding research into whether hormonal fluctuations during menstrual cycles could be contributing to the rise in anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries in women’s football. ACL injuries are two to six times more likely to occur in women than men and about two-thirds of them happen in women’s football when there is no physical contact. Manchester City midfielder Laura Blindkilde Brown, 21, has received her third senior call-up and has joined the 26-player squad at St George’s Park as a replacement. England are already without goalkeeper Mary Earps after her surprise retirement on Tuesday. Elon Musk’s xAI partners with messaging app Telegram for Grok Elon Musk’s xAI partners with messaging app Telegram for Grok Elon Musk announced his new company xAI which he says has the goal to understand the true nature of the universe. Jaap Arriens | Nurphoto | Getty Images Elon Musk’s startup xAI is paying the Dubai-based messaging platform Telegram $300 million to roll out its Grok artificial intelligence chatbot, Telegram CEO Pavel Durov announced in a post on Wednesday. Durov said he and Musk struck a year-long partnership that “strengthens Telegram’s financial position.” In addition to the $300 million payment from xAI, Telegram will also earn 50% of the revenue from xAI subscriptions that are sold on the platform, according to Durov. “This summer, Telegram users will gain access to the best AI technology on the market,” Durov wrote. xAI and Telegram did not immediately respond to CNBC’s request for comment. Telegram passed 1 billion monthly users in 2025, and the company is set to raise at least $1.5 billion in a bond issue on Wednesday, according to a report from the Wall Street Journal. The messaging platform is popular in countries like Russia and Ukraine, where it is used by government officials and the military. Durov is facing an investigation in France, where he is a citizen, for allegedly allowing criminal activity including drug trafficking, fraud and child ************ on Telegram. Following his arrest in August, Durov has been barred from leaving France without authorization. Telegram said in a previous statement posted on Musk’s social media platform X that it abides by EU laws, and that Durov has “nothing to hide.” The Russian-born billionaire left Russia in 2014, according to Telegram’s website, and is also a citizen of the United Arab Emirates. In March, Musk announced xAI merged with X in a deal that values the AI company at $80 billion and the social media company at $33 billion. The company’s Grok chatbot was under fire earlier this month after it began responding to user queries with unrelated comments about the controversial topic of “white genocide” in South Africa. xAI said the responses were triggered by an “unauthorized modification” that “violated xAI’s internal policies and core values,” according to a post from the company on X. “We have conducted a thorough investigation and are implementing measures to enhance Grok’s transparency and reliability,” xAI said in the post.
