Digital physical therapy startup Hinge Health debuted on the New York Stock Exchange earlier this month. Omada, based in San Francisco, describes its approach as a “between-visit care model” that is complementary to the broader health-care ecosystem, according to its prospectus. Sean Duffy, Omada’s CEO, co-founded the company in 2012 with Andrew DiMichele and Adrian James, who have both moved on to other ventures. Omada’s revenue increased 57% in its first quarter to $55 million from $35.1 million a year earlier, the filing said. For 2024, revenue rose 38% to $169.8 million from $122.8 million the previous year. If you don’t know why that’s a big deal, then all you need to know is that Cache is one of the most iconic maps in the franchise, and we’re hyped to see it come back. On May 23, 2025, Shawn “FMPONE” Snelling, the map’s co-creator, confirmed the acquisition after weeks of speculation following Cache’s addition to Counter-Strike 2 (CS2) via the Steam Workshop back in March 2025. Will we see it in the upcoming Major? Probably not, but we can’t wait to see the pros on it. Valve just bought Cache, and it might be one of the best moves ever The map’s co-creator, Shawn “FMPONE” Snelling, shared the news after weeks of speculation on X (formerly Twitter). Responding to a fan who pointed out his silence since March, Snelling confirmed Valve’s acquisition. He also expressed gratitude to both Valve and Salvatore “Volcano” Garozzo, the original creator of Cache. Thank you for playing Cache. The map was rebalanced and overhauled by Snelling for Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS: GO). It officially entered CS: GO’s competitive pool in 2014. It eventually became a fan favorite map because fans enjoyed the angles and sightlines of the map. It also has balanced gameplay between Terrorists and Counter-Terrorists and has iconic locations like the forklift at Bombsite A. However, it was removed from the competitive lineup in 2019 and largely maintained by Snelling himself until its CS2 debut. Valve previously offered to buy the map one other time, around 2013-2015 (can’t remember). They gave the option to keep it in our own hands and ride out the Operations, or let them buy it. Players, esports teams, and content creators have replied to the post on X (formerly Twitter). Players are already speculating about seeing Cache featured in upcoming Counter-Strike 2 Majors. The Austin Major stars in just a few days on June 3, so we can’t expect it there, but let’s hope to see it in the Budapest Major in December. For many Counter-Strike fans, Cache has a unique place in the history of the franchise. From its early days as a custom map plagued by balance issues favoring the Terrorist side, to how much work that’s been put into balancing it, Cache has had a journey that is worthy of the franchise. Today, it’s as iconic as Dust2, Inferno, and Mirage. A new app update is rolling out now that automatically suggests adding accessories to a zone when you connect them for the first time, so you don’t miss out on any features later on. A zone is a set of lights and other accessories that you want to control together as a group. They don’t necessarily have to be in the same place or include all the lights within a room. For example, you might want to create a zone specifically for your home entertainment lighting, or one that includes all the lights on a particular floor. Previously, assigning new devices to a room or zone was an optional step within the Philips Hue app, which you might miss if you were in a hurry. If you did, you wouldn’t be able to use all of the switch or sensor’s functions afterwards. For example, you may be unable to view all the available scenes (ready-made lighting profiles). While Lotto winners rarely speak to the media, a WA division-one winner has broken their silence on what it’s like to score the jackpot. Th 59-year-old woman, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, became a millionaire in January 2024, after ignoring calls from Lotterywest, mistaking them for callers from a charity. “I go in (a syndicate) every week with my cousin, we have a small system, so it costs us $5 a week… We’ve been doing it for 20 years; we definitely haven’t broken even,” the woman said. “I saw that there was a $30 million super draw, so I thought I’ll get a Slikpik (by myself) and then we went away for Christmas. “We went up to Lancelin with a whole lot of family and I kept getting these missed calls, and I thought bloody Greenpeace, because I signed a petition and they ring you up and follow up.” We toasted with this bottle of $7 champagne. It wasn’t until she returned home and checked her emails that she realised the reason for the calls. “I saw something from Lotterywest and it said you need to contact us about a prize,” said. Believing it was a scam, she checked her app which confirmed the ticket was a winner, which she soon realised was to the value of $2.3m. The news made it through the home, with everyone erupting in celebration. “We toasted with this bottle of $7 champagne. “(My daughter’s) jumping around the house, one of my other kids was home jumping around, they ran and told my husband and he’s jumping around,” the woman said. “I wasn’t really over the top excited, the others were going crazy, my husband couldn’t sleep all night.” The woman said the group celebrated in style. “I hadn’t had the chance to go out and buy any decent champagne because I had been so busy,” she said. “It was the worst kept secret in the history of the world, everyone knew about it.” Despite being offered financial advice by Lotterywest, the woman had already mapped out a plan for the cash. The couple bought their sister out of their shared investment property and loaded up their superannuation before turning their attention to their four children. The woman generously gifted her children a wad of cash, with some conditions attached. “They got $100,000 for a mortgage, and they got $20,000 fun money,” she said. The couple have been enjoying the money after the win, remodelling the kitchen on their home, splashing on a “dream car” 300 series LandCruiser and going away on surfing trips to Bali. “It hasn’t changed my life hugely, it’s just made a better balance of everything,” the woman said. “We’ve still got the same friends, we still do the same stuff, it’s not like we’re all driving flash cars or fine dining. You can’t play lotto to bank on it changing your life, you’ve got to change your life yourself to make sure you’re enjoying it, then if you get lotto it’s a bonus.     Why this dining stock is hitting highs, even though Josh Brown never eats at Olive Garden Why this dining stock is hitting highs, even though Josh Brown never eats at Olive Garden (This is The Best Stocks in the Market , brought to you by Josh Brown and Sean Russo of Ritholtz Wealth Management.) Josh here — One of the things I’ve learned to do over the years is to stop thinking about investment opportunities purely through the lens of my own taste or experiences. I may not always be representative of the attitudes and desires of the bulk of the population. Nowhere is this more true than when it comes to consumer discretionary stocks and especially within the restaurant group. Darden Restaurants (DRI) owns eleven major dining brands, including the Capital Grille, Ruth’s Chris, Yard House, Eddie V’s, Longhorn Steakhouse and Seasons 52. Most people know Darden as the former owner of the Red Lobster chain (no longer part of the company) and the current owner of their flagship chain, The Olive Garden. I live in Nassau County, Long Island, home to the highest concentration of incredible Italian restaurants anywhere in America outside of Brooklyn and Manhattan. I’m a fifteen minute drive away from Cippolini in Manhasset, Il Mulino and 388 in Roslyn, Chris and Tony’s in Syosset or, if I want to play a home game, Matteo’s or Bella Notte in Bellmore. Suffice it to say, I’m not ever eating at an Olive Garden. But most people don’t live where I live or have the same choices that I have. Most people don’t even know the difference or what they’re missing. For most people, The Olive Garden is a good night out, close enough to home, and at a reasonable price. That’s probably why the stock price looks like this with the company hitting our Best Stocks in the Market list this week: They do a great job serving their customers and maintaining the chain’s brand equity in a race-to-the-bottom sector where most of their competitors are relying on gimmicks and discounts. Last year, Olive Garden did $3.83 billion in sales earning over $800 million in profit for the company. Darden’s systemwide sales are projected to top $12.1 billion this year, with a juicy 2.6% dividend, an authorized stock buyback and a healthy earnings per share number of around $9.50. I also want to say that if you find yourself near a shopping mall or a strange downtown area and you’re not 100% sure where to go for lunch or dinner, Capital Grille will never let you down. Get the NY Strip with the au poivre sauce or the ribeye with the cajun rub and it’ll be a “lights out” experience for you. You can’t go wrong. Fortunately, for the shareholders of Darden, my opinions about their other chains don’t mean anything. Their audience of diners are voting with their wallets and the share price is reflecting this. Sean’s going to go a little deeper into the technicals and fundamentals while I figure out what’s for lunch. Best Stock Spotlight: Darden (DRI) On the list since: 5/27/2025 Sean: Darden is the largest restaurant operator in the U.S., representing 3% to 4% market share — this comes out to about 2,000 company-operated restaurants in the U.S., according to YCharts. Olive Garden represents 44% of the company’s revenue, Longhorn Steakhouse is 25% of revenue, fine dining is 11% of revenue, and the rest of the brands make up the last 20%. This is a geographically and economically diversified restaurant chain. It caters to most people along the income spectrum, which is a key diversifier for a restaurant business. Darden has improved segment profit margins across its major brands. Olive Garden’s segment profit margin increased from 22.5% to 23.0% YoY in the latest quarter, driven from lower costs of goods sold. A number of brands are seeing positive sales and cost efficiency savings. Leaning into the company’s growth capabilities, DRI rolled out its first-party delivery service through various partnerships which has expanded sales channels and improved guest experience, and these improvements are showing up on the top and bottom lines. Over the past 5 years, DRI has compounded revenue at a 6% annual clip. More impressively, they have grown EPS at a 12% clip annually during that same *******, and the growth doesn’t stop there. EPS is expected to grow 9% annually over the next two years. Darden’s long-term chart is up and to the right. This stock has bounced off its 200-day moving average only twice on a weekly basis, going back 5 years: And this year, it’s stuck especially close to its 50 day moving average (see one year chart in Josh’s commentary). DRI has a 63 Relative Strength Index— not too hot, not too cold. It’s about 6% above its 50-day moving average and 19% above its 200-day moving average, solidly in an uptrend which is what we like to see. It’s hitting new 52 week highs and all-time highs in what has been a challenging macro environment. Risk Management Josh: Traders want to eyeball the level just below $200 for a change in the short-term trend. That neatly coincides with where the 50-day moving average is keying off of. Investors can use $180 as their line in the sand. Darden reports before the open on Friday, June 20. On each of the last four earnings reports, investors bought the news that day. As a personal trainer myself, my evaluation takes a deep dive into Amp’s performance, features and overall usability. I’ll take you through my experience with it, including how the equipment affected my recovery with a bad leg. Whether you’re considering this for fitness or rehabilitation (like I did), you can use the review to help determine whether Amp is right for your workout goals. Amp unboxing: It’s hard to hate free white-glove delivery For anyone who looks forward to working out but dreads trying to piece together fitness equipment (you can count me in your numbers!), you’ll be as excited as I was to learn that Amp includes free white-glove delivery and installation with every purchase. The brand took care of everything — I just had to show the installer where I wanted it to live. As someone who has put together more than my fair share of home fitness equipment with long and confusing instructions, this was by far the easiest installation I’ve ever enjoyed. Before installation day, I sent a few photos of the rooms where I was thinking of installing the Amp to the installer to make sure I had the best spot picked out. I originally wanted to put it in my garage, but as someone who lives in a hot climate, the installer suggested I find a location with better climate control. This was helpful feedback to receive before the equipment even arrived to help make the installation process quicker and smoother. For those considering Amp, walls that work for installation include: Drywall or Sheetrock with proper stud support Solid, poured concrete with no added material Solid cinder blocks without added materials Amp space requirement: It may be sleek, but it still takes up room Even though the Amp is modern and sleek, it does require room. When not in use, the device itself is 6 feet tall, 2 feet wide and 1 foot in depth, which is pretty minimal, but to actually use it, you need to have more unobstructed space — about 7 square feet. If you’re in a small apartment or are installing the Amp in a smaller room, you just need to make sure you’ll have sufficient space to move around and exercise when the Amp is in use. Could it look any better? One of the standout features of the Amp device is its design. The sleek, minimalist aesthetic makes it look more like a piece of modern art than a bulky eyesore like a lot of home gym equipment. The chic design only adds to my home’s décor, and I can even dress up the shelf that’s included in the installation. It’s perfect for setting up a small plant or a picture frame when not in use. For me, the product’s appearance was my second favorite element of the device, following closely behind its AI technology. I’ve always wanted to be able to keep my fitness machines inside my home instead of out in my garage, but I don’t like the way that gym equipment tends to take over a space’s aesthetic. Luckily, Amp makes it possible to keep the machine inside without feeling like I’m turning my guest room into a fitness center. The Amp accessories are great, too Amp comes with five different accessories that make it possible to perform hundreds of different exercises. (Jennifer Purdie) Amp comes with a sweet box of gorgeous workout accessories that work with the machine to offer exercise versatility. With a variety of handles, ropes and ankle straps, you’re able to target every major muscle group by simply switching the accessories in and out. They also have a handy click-in and release button that works much like a belt buckle. Amp’s top features: Intuitive design and isotonic resistance The features that stuck out to me right away about Amp are the equipment’s intuitive design and its adjustable resistance and smart technology. If you’re recovering from an injury (like me) or you’re new to strength training, you’re unlikely to feel overwhelmed or uncertain about how much weight to use. It’s easy to simply turn the dial (it’s the big, ******, obvious dial right at the front of the device) to personalize the level of resistance. One of my favorite differentiators from traditional gym equipment like dumbbells or barbells is Amp’s ability to provide isotonic resistance — resistance applied during the concentric and eccentric phases of an exercise. The concentric phase of an exercise is the “lift” phase. For example, as you pull a dumbbell to your shoulder during a biceps curl, or as you rise to standing during a squat — it’s when you’re pushing or pulling against resistance. The eccentric phase is the “release” phase, like as you lower a dumbbell back toward your sides during a dumbbell curl or as you lower your glutes toward the ground during a squat. Isotonic exercises allow you to work against resistance during both phases, targeting multiple and opposing muscle groups at the same time. Incorporating isotonic training is a great way to make your workouts more efficient and effective. Amp makes this easy to do. The machine is easy to adjust for a range of exercises or user heights It’s easy to adjust the Amp’s arm to personalize exercises for your height. (Jennifer Purdie) To do different exercises like shoulder press or chest press, you have to move the Amp’s arm up and down to make sure it’s positioned appropriately. To move the arm, you simply press a button and make the adjustment. It took a few tries to get used to this, and I did need to press the silver button harder than I thought I would, but once I figured it out, it felt easy to move around. It’s worth noting that I’m 6’0″ and I didn’t have any issues related to my height — even with standing exercises, I always felt I could adjust the arm so that I could perform each exercise with a full range of motion. Setting up and using the app I’m not the best with technology, often taking the path of least resistance when it comes to high-tech gear. I never use all the features (or even try), as tech is often too daunting to me. However, I found Amp’s app intuitive, and the real-time and long-term exercise tracking is pretty motivating. I can track my progress, see how far I’ve come and set goals that push me to work harder. The app also feels a bit like a fitness playground. Thanks to integrated AI, it continuously learns from my workout history (such as noticing my affinity for rope-based exercises) and my fitness goal of running a marathon, and is always curating new training plans as I gain strength. It automatically adjusts the resistance for each exercise based on my effort (I don’t have to do anything, thanks to AI), and it includes 400 movements and endless ideas for future workouts. The app comes with a free month-long trial, but after that, it costs $23 per month, including user profiles for up to five people on the same membership. Even as tech-resistant as I am, I’ve really enjoyed the app and will likely pony up the cash to keep using it after my trial ends. One big drawback? The app is only available for iPhone users. But oof, the device is spendy I can’t gloss over the fact that the Amp costs nearly $2,000, a steep price for almost anyone. If you’re a gym rat who prefers the camaraderie of others when you work out, this might not be a good option for you. Also, if you prefer traditional weights like dumbbells and barbells, or if you’re a heavy-duty lifter who needs resistance levels above 100 pounds, this isn’t the best choice. To spend this amount on a single piece of fitness equipment, it must fit your preferred fitness lifestyle. However, if you’re someone serious about fitness goals and you’re motivated to work out at home, this equipment offers much more than your average gym machine. For me, this tool transformed my rehabilitation workouts, and now I’m adding weightlifting to my marathon training. I can confidently say that this is worth the money for me. Amp is improving my workouts and my recovery Thanks to isotonic resistance, the Amp provides a workout that my dumbbells and standard gym machines can’t provide. It also uses AI to remember my workouts, making planning and implementing workouts seamless — I don’t need to look up old fitness notes in my phone to remember the sets, reps and weights I used in previous workouts. I’m a big fan, and I believe the future of fitness is now installed in my living room. I also appreciate Amp’s physical therapy capabilities. After battling chronic hamstring pain for a number of years, I’ve been looking for a solution, and Amp appears to have filled the role. By using Amp to perform my physical therapy exercises, my strength training is more balanced and personalized, and my hamstring pain has reduced significantly since incorporating the device into my regimen. Plus, as my endurance training for my marathon ramps up, so does my use of Amp. It creates workouts that are complementary to my running routine, targeting muscles I don’t hit when I’m hitting the pavement. This helps keep my training well-balanced. Tesla has been targeted globally by protesters furious at Musk’s work with the Trump administration, and at his ideology which the billionaire often espouses through his social media platform, X. This week that anger boiled over in the South *********** capital, half a world away from Washington DC. About 95% of the nearly 1,000 submissions were opposed to a proposal to build a Tesla showroom and battery recycling and repurposing factory. Many expressed “anti-Tesla and anti-Elon Musk sentiment”. For decency, the local council redacted the language in some submissions to describe Musk and Tesla. “We should not support and put money in the pockets of a [redacted] who openly [redacted] salutes, is [redacted] human,” said one. The world’s richest man has announced he will leave his role in the department of government efficiency, which has slashed jobs and funding for US government agencies with often chaotic and devastating effects. He is pivoting back to his businesses, including Tesla, amid slumping sales. Meanwhile in Adelaide, the Marion city council overrode community objections and approved the factory project to proceed to the next stage, which will need state government approval. The council said the project would bring in 100 jobs and millions of dollars to the community. But the protest movement “Trees not Teslas” is determined to fight on. While conservation groups and others were protesting against the Tesla project because of the need to remove trees on the land where the plant would be built, Trees not Teslas also fired people up over Musk himself. “Neon” from Trees not Teslas did not want to use his real name, in part for fear of reprisals and in part because the group considers itself a collective. He said the traction the group got was “wild”, with their website getting thousands of views, but he acknowledged it was impossible to work out how much influence they ultimately had. Neon said the fight will continue, as the state government considers whether to approve the council’s proposal to revoke the site’s status as community land. “We just move that further up. We have to. We move that into actions for the state government,” Neon said. “We spread more awareness. We try to get more people involved. It now becomes not just a council issue but a fundamental state issue.” He said they started the campaign primarily to protect the trees on the site. “… our main focus was the trees … we’re looking to preserve green spaces,” he said. “We’re very pro-electric vehicle and pro-green energy. “But the industry that destroys green spaces is … green in name only.” The council argued that the space had not been publicly accessible since 2016 because of contamination. Neon said trees can help remediate the land. He also echoed comments made by the councillor Sarah Lascombe, who voted against the proposal, that the factory would only recycle or repurpose Tesla batteries, when most people use other brands. While the discussion has centred around electric vehicle batteries, it is possible the site could also recycle and repurpose Powerwall batteries. Guardian Australia has contacted Tesla for comment. Neon said the council voting eight to three to seek state government approval despite the community objections made the public consultation process seem like a box-ticking exercise. The mayor, Kris Hanna, said the project would bring jobs and an income stream into the community, and that Tesla would just set up elsewhere, if not in Marion. Tesla, Hanna said, had pledged to retain most significant trees and replace more trees than it was required to. Neon said the established trees would be replaced with saplings, removing many of their benefits. The state premier, Peter Malinauskas, said earlier this week that major industrial developments were welcome in the state and that while he “violently” disagreed with Musk’s politics, they were “his prerogative”. First quarter GDP revisions showing the economy contracting at a slightly less severe rate, shrinking by two-tenths of a percent compared to the three-tenths we saw last month. For more on that, I want to bring in my co-host for the hour. We’ve got Paul Gruenwald, S&P Global Ratings global chief economist. And also joining us to discuss, we’ve got Julie Beal, chief market strategist and portfolio manager at Kane Anderson Rudnick. I want to start with my co-host for the hour, Paul, great to have you. Talk to me about how you are viewing the totality of the economic data we got this morning. 00:49 Paul Gruenwald Yeah, well, let’s start with the GDP. The big number, as you said, was unchanged. It’s still slightly negative. There’s two big pieces that kind of moved in opposite directions. The first one has to do with the front-running of the tariffs, because remember that story, we pulled in a lot of imports and they were stocked. So we got a little bit of inventory, you know, uplift, which was good. Um, but then we had a more serious, I would say, downward revision to consumption growth. So, 1.8 to 1.2 is a big move. 1.8’s kind of soft landing territory, 1.2’s a little bit harder. So that’s negative. We’ll have to wait for the future revisions, but I think the takeaway is Q1 looked a little bit softer than we thought originally. 02:00 Speaker A And Julie, to bring you into the conversation, to Paul’s point, it seems like that softness and consumption data might have been on the bond market investors’ minds this morning. What does that signal to you about risks to stocks if we do start to see a softening in consumers consuming? 02:25 Julie Beal Yeah, I mean, I think so much of what we can really attribute to the growth that we’ve enjoyed for the last few years has been on the backs of the strength of the consumer, and that’s really been tied to the health of, you know, economic gains that we’ve seen in jobs. What makes me a little bit nervous is when I look at some of the economic data, you’re seeing more and more people choosing to do gig economy work. And I worry that that’s actually the work that’s the weakest in an economic situation, right? Suddenly, Uber rides are not as important. Suddenly, you’re not DoorDashing quite as much. And so, if we hit a patch where there’s a weakness in consumer spending, I worry it has a duplicative effect on, you know, the ability for people to kind of continue to find income as they, as prices continue to go up. 03:30 Speaker A And of course, the impact that that can have on earnings growth going forward. Paul, bringing you back into the conversation here, where do you see the American consumer today? 03:43 Paul Gruenwald Yeah, well, she made a very good point. It’s really the consumer and the labor market that are put together. Since the Fed and other central banks started to raise rates, we’ve had this really resilient nexus of labor demand and consumption. If that cracks, and we, it hasn’t cracked yet, but we’ve got some weakness. If that starts to crack, I think we go into a down leg with weaker growth. Labor market was okay today. We had a little bit of an uptick in claims, you know, ongoing claims a little bit higher, but we’re nowhere near the panic zone. So if this is a soft landing, which was the original call this year, we’re okay. But, you know, we’re going to have to watch the data for the next couple of months, consumer spending and the labor market. 04:39 Speaker A Let’s talk about the labor market a bit because it also seems that it’s taking longer for people to get jobs and that entry-level work is getting increasingly challenging to get. How concerned are you about that? 04:56 Paul Gruenwald Well, we saw two things. We don’t see a lot of layoffs, but we also don’t see a lot of hiring. So that kind of, you know, quits and new hires, things kind of softened up a bit. It looks like firms are on hold. We’ve got all this policy uncertainty, you know, the ruling last night by the court on the AIIPA might be a little bit of a boost, but we still have this overhang on everything. So that’s actually what we’re watching, right? If people start to move away from the discretionary spending, which is the first crack you would see, then, you know, what’s in that bucket? Is it eating out? Is it travel? Is it, you know, DoorDash and things like that? So we’ll watch that kind of consumer discretionary bucket first. The essentials are probably going to go through any kind of slowdown, but the discretionary stuff is really where we start to see the delta. I owned my first smartphone when I was aged 15, so prior to that point in time, I just relied on my parent’s paper map-reading abilities. I don’t ever remember that being a problem, although I’m sure there will have been a disagreement or two. Despite not knowing we needed them, when navigation apps appeared, I think we suddenly realized how limited atlas maps really were. Being able to receive turn-by-turn instructions was an absolute game changer, which meant the driver or passenger no longer needed their hard-honed map reading skills. It was in 2005 that Google launched its desktop maps tool, with the mobile version coming the year after. With Google becoming ubiquitous with almost every type of search enquiry, many of us became dependent upon them for the simple task of getting from A to B. You may like Like a lot of tech tools we take for granted, it’s likely a lot of people have never questioned whether Google Maps is the best app for the job. This is especially true for Android phone owners who have the app forced upon them by way of an automatic pre-install. This article is for those who, like me, have got a little bit tired of Google Maps. Maybe it’s the interface, or the lack of innovative tools, or simply the fact that it’s owned by a mega corporation. Whatever the reason, we have collated five of the best alternatives that are well worth a try. 1. Obviously these must be entered by a passenger, but once they’re in the system, other Waze users can take advantage of rerouting to avoid similar problems. You can be informed of upcoming speed bumps so you can manage your speed ahead of time. It’ll even let you know if there are sharp bends ahead, just in case you missed any road signs. HERE WeGo (Image credit: Future) It’s been five years since we wrote about HERE WeGo, the map app that will navigate you from your office chair to your airport gate and more. Despite all the time that has passed, we would still highly recommend this app for those who want a break from Google Maps. The app is 100% free and provides a range of navigation features, including offline maps, public transport guidance, and more. All of this is packaged up in a beautifully designed interface that’s easy to find your way around. I can often find Google Maps a little clunky, which makes an app like HERE WeGo so much more satisfying. The app collects 500 million kilometers of probe and sensor data every hour. By blending this and other data into one unified live map, HERE WeGo is able to deliver the highest map quality and coverage. HERE WeGo also specializes in location intelligence, which makes people’s journeys more enjoyable. This is ideal for travelers who are moving around and exploring new places, as well as anyone who wants to discover new places near to where they live. The app lets you search and explore nearby points of interest, including restaurants, bars, gas stations and hotels. These, and more, are located in the app’s layers bar, which is ideal for turning each feature on and off. Integrated into the app is also the ability to find hotel deals and book them directly through the app. This might not be the type of feature that you want from your navigation tool, but it’s there should you need it. Any journey inevitably requires a quick check of the predicted weather. I’ll often do this in a separate weather app, but with MapQuest it’s possible to do it inside the app itself. Anything that helps me find the information I want more quickly and easily is a win as far as I’m concerned. MapQuest is a well-designed app that contains all the navigation features you’d expect as well as a range of exploration tools for discovering new places. 4. Maps.Me (Image credit: Future) The best feature of the Maps.Me app is, hands down, the offline maps. By using OpenStreetMap data, users can navigate their way to a chosen destination even if they’ve lost their data connection. This is particularly useful for travelers, hikers, or anyone in areas with limited data access. No more panic stations when your connection drops out. By using OpenStreetMap data, the app relies on community-contributed map data. You might think this would be its downfall, but in reality it’s surprisingly detailed, especially in areas where Google Maps may have less detailed information. Google Maps does provide offline maps, but I’ve always found the process of downloading them annoyingly clunky and difficult. They also seem to take up an unnecessarily large amount of storage space. Many of these problems are overcome by the dedicated tools offered by Maps.Me. And for those who don’t get along with the Google Maps interface, you’ll find Maps.Me to be a lot less cluttered and streamlined. All of this makes for a very enjoyable navigation experience. 5. Sygic (Image credit: Future) As one of the very first GPS navigation app creators, the team at Sygic have all the experience that comes from 25 years of app development. Not only does Sygic provide voice-guided navigation and real-time traffic updates, but it also delivers an excellent offline maps experience. Maps can be downloaded when you have an internet connection to cover you for the times when you don’t. I find this feature particularly helpful for when I go on holiday and can’t guarantee I’ll have a data connection. Sygic also provides helpful information along journeys with camera alerts, fuel price information, and parking assistance. I particularly love being able to quickly see fuel prices in an area so I can get the best deal without traveling too far. We also love the app’s augmented reality feature that overlays navigation instructions onto the phone’s camera view. This really helps to integrate the navigation experience into the real world by blurring the distinctions between phone and reality. There’s a new venue in town. Five has opened in the former Sun-Ray Cinema space in Five Points, with room for 1,200 standing fans. Another is coming. The Ponte Vedra Concert Hall has been closed for more than a year and will reopen in August as an expanded venue with some permanent seating. When completed, it will be about the same size as Five, and it will be interesting to see how the venues compete for acts and for fans. A new nightclub, Decca Live, opened on Bay Street in downtown Jacksonville earlier this year and is regularly booking acts. Just down the street, the former Underbelly club has rebranded as The Albatross and has its own slate of shows. Daily’s Place has a lighter-than-usual schedule this summer as construction begins on the adjacent EverBank Stadium. There’s still no word on whether Daily’s will operate at all next year, when crews remove the upper decks of the stadium, or the following year, when the stadium will be closed entirely while new decks are built. Even with all the changes, you shouldn’t have to look too hard to find a show that suits your tastes. Ringo Starr comes to St. Augustine this summer.
