A self-appointed fossil hunter in Denmark discovered fossilized vomit from 66 million years ago.
The chalky find contains portion of sea lilies likely consumed by a fish predator from the Cretaceous era.
The fossil was discovered at Stevns Klint—a UNESCO-listed coastal cliff in Denmark known for being rich in fossils from the Cretaceous era.
On the scenic Danish seaside cliffs of Stevns Klint, a local fossil enthusiast recently discovered something not-so-picturesque: some of the world’s oldest vomit. The pile of 66-million-year-old, fossilized, regurgitated sea lilies was dated to the Cretaceous era. Indigestion, it seems, spans the furthest reaches of time.
“It really is an unusual find,” Jesper Milan, museum inspector at Geomuseum Faxe, said in a translated statement from the Østsjællands Museum.
The lump of vomit—more scientifically referred to as ‘regurgitate’—was discovered by Peter Bennicke as he walked along the Baltic Sea cliffside that is well-known for Cretaceous-era finds. In fact, it’s richness of fossils has made it so well-known that it has become a UNESCO-listed site.
After bringing the discovery to Geomuseum Faxe, expert John Jagt concluded that the vomit features at least two different species of sea lilies mixed into one lump after having been eaten by an animal that had trouble digesting the ancient meal.
“Sea lilies are not a particularly nutritious diet, as they mainly consist of calcareous plates held together by very few soft parts,” Milan said. “But here is an animal, probably some kind of fish, that 66 million years ago ate sea lilies that lived on the bottom of the Cretaceous sea and gulped the skeletal parts back up.”
The sea lily, an underwater species considered a “cousin” of the modern sea star and sea urchin, according to the Smithsonian, and the organisms’ structures included chalk-like portions that were often regurgitated by the fish that ate them.
While things like vomit and ********** are often viewed as disgusting (or at least icky) by the average individual, substances like this can be treasure troves of environmental and ecological information for scientists. “Such a find provides important new knowledge about the relationship between predators and prey and the food chains in the Cretaceous era seas,” Milan said.
If viewing fossilized vomit in person is your thing, head to Denmark’s Geomuseum Faxe for quite a sight during a special exhibition. After all, as Milan said (according to the BBC), “this is the world’s most famous piece of ***** ever.”

Damien Oliver: Reigning West *********** of the Year on honour of receiving State’s top gong
Damien Oliver: Reigning West *********** of the Year on honour of receiving State’s top gong
He may have won the Melbourne Cup three times and be one of the country’s greatest ever sportsmen but being named West *********** of the Year is an honour Damien Oliver will always cherish.
Oliver took home the State’s highest honour last year in recognition of a legendary career as a jockey, an award he admits was a “huge surprise and an honour as well”.
“I certainly wasn’t expecting it,” he told The West *********** this week.
“There were some amazingly credentialed people there on the night who have done so many wonderful things for the community so it was a big surprise and a huge honour.”
Oliver’s 35-year career included 129 Group 1 wins, 10 Victorian city premierships, three Melbourne Cups and four Caulfield Cups.
Oliver’s exploits went far past the race track with the rider establishing the Oliver Foundation to support injured jockeys.
The 52-year-old created the charity in honour of both his father Ray and brother Jason who both lost their lives in racing incidents.
Oliver said the award was a recognition of his career as a whole.

“It was a wonderful acknowledgement, I kind of felt I’d probably had better years as far as career-wise success went,” he said.
“But as I chatted with a lot of the people on the night I think it was a kind of a reward of a long career and lifetime in the sport of racing.
Oliver said despite moving to Melbourne for his career, his heart remained in WA.
“Western *********** is a big, huge, proud State and one thing that living in Victoria I acknowledge that how isolated it (WA) is,” he said.
“It’s like its own little piece of Australia but it stands alone and anyone that is successful and do really well in WA is more than capable of holding their own anywhere in Australia and in the world.”
Oliver was one of eight winners last year with Balladong and Whadjuk Elder Kim Collard, gender equality advocate Nicolette Beard and former WA Cricket chief executive officer Christina Matthews.

Oliver encouraged anyone thinking of nominating a West *********** deserving of recognition this year to do so.
“I recommend it. It’s wonderful recognition and particularly the biggest thing that I realised with all the nominees there on the night was how important it is that they put back into the community as well,” he said.
“That’s something I really recognised on the night, how much all the other nominees had really put back into the West *********** community as well.”
The 2025 Western *********** of the Year awards have seven categories, including the Wesfarmers Aboriginal Award, the Chamber of Minerals and Energy Business Award, the Channel 7 Sport Award and the BHP Youth Award.
Nominations can be made online by March at www.celebratewa.com.au/waoty-nomination-2025

Nelly to open ‘Dirty Bowling,’ reviving historic Florissant bowling alley
ST. LOUIS COUNTY, Mo. – St. Louis native and hip-hop star Nelly is expanding his business portfolio with a new venture, Dirty Bowling LLC, set to renovate the old Olympic Lanes in Florissant.
The Florissant City Council has approved Dirty Bowling LLC’s takeover and refurbishment of the Olympic Lanes bowling alley on New Halls Ferry Road. The council also approved a liquor license for the establishment, although the opening date has not yet been announced.
“There was a discussion over this request, and the petitioner was able to share with us all of the improvements and money,” said Florissant Councilman Paul Manganelli. “They are putting into that bowling alley that did pass.”
O’Fallon restaurant says ICE arrested some employees at work
Olympic Lanes, originally opened in 1973, will be utilizing the same 12 wooden lanes that were used in the 1960 Tokyo Summer Olympics. The renovation aims to breathe new life into the historic venue.
With the council’s approval, Nelly’s Dirty Bowling LLC is poised to revitalize a piece of Florissant’s history, though the community will have to wait for an official opening date.

UPS said Thursday that it would cut its business with Amazon in half by mid-2026.
CEO Carol Tomé said Amazon’s business with UPS, while big, was becoming less profitable.
Amazon has been building out its own logistics infrastructure in recent years.
UPS’s CEO said Thursday that it would reduce the number of Amazon packages it handles as profit from those shipments shrinks.
“This was not their ask,” Carol Tomé said on an investor call. “This was us. This was UPS taking control of our destiny.”
Shares plunged by as much as 18%.
The shipping giant said it would cut its business with its largest customer in half by June 2026. UPS’s chief financial officer, Brian Dykes, said on the call that Amazon shipments made up about 20% of UPS’s volume in the US. The company had reported fourth-quarter results before the stock market opened.
“Amazon is our largest customer, but it’s not our most profitable customer,” Tomé said on the call. “Its margin is very dilutive to the US domestic business.”
Tomé said UPS used recent contract negotiations with Amazon to reach an agreement on the drawdown. She added that keeping the same amount of business with the retail giant would “likely result in diminishing returns.”
“Due to their operational needs, UPS requested a reduction in volume, and we certainly respect their decision,” an Amazon spokesperson told Business Insider. “We’ll continue to partner with them and many other carriers to serve our customers.”
Analysts at Goldman Sachs said on Thursday that while the move away from Amazon would cost UPS business in the short run, the company could use it to “focus in on higher-yielding, margin-enhancing volumes.”
Tomé said that the remaining half of UPS’s business with the e-commerce giant included handling some returns for Amazon — something UPS does “very, very well” and is unlikely to go away anytime soon.
“We have 5,200 UPS store locations that make it very convenient for customers of Amazon to return their Amazon packages,” she said.
Amazon has spent years building its logistics services, including its warehouses and its aircraft fleet.
The company has used those resources to offer its own shipping options. Late last year, for instance, Amazon launched a new option for sellers on its website to deliver products from source factories to customers.
Amazon also offers shipping options to sellers who don’t even sell on its website.

Lords Mobile is celebrating its 9th anniversary with Coca-Cola
Lords Mobile is celebrating its 9th anniversary with Coca-Cola
Expect collab mini-games and cosmetics
More details to be revealed in the next few weeks
Coca-Cola-themed rewards await
IGG is celebrating a whopping nine years of service within Lords Mobile, and interestingly enough, instead of the usual gacha giveaways and rate-up summons other mobile offerings have, there’s a special collab in store for you this year – a particularly fizzy one, to be exact.
You might not expect it at all – I certainly didn’t – but Lords Mobile is teaming up with THE Cola-Cola to celebrate the ninth anniversary, so you can look forward to a variety of mini-games themed around the iconic beverage in the weeks to come. There will also be exclusive Castle Skins along with special avatars, and cosmetics galore in the form of crossover emotes.
Now, I can’t claim to understand how a strategy game set in medieval times can have its heroes popping open a cold can of Coca-Cola, but it’s called fantasy for a reason, isn’t it? The hype is very much real too, as the the recently concluded social media giveaway offered 3,000 Linked Gems and Speed Up (24h) *1 to lucky winners who shared the collab video.
So while details are a little bit hush-hush at the moment, suffice it to say I’m super curious as to how the popular drink will be integrating its way into Lords Mobile this year. The collab will supposedly end on March 1st, so it seems that there’s plenty of time for everyone to enjoy the crossover.
In the meantime, if you’re eager to join in on all the fun, you can do so by downloading it from the App Store and on Google Play. It’s free-to-play with in-app purchases.
You can also join the community of followers on the official Facebook page to stay updated on all the latest developments, visit the official website, or take a little peek at the embedded clip above to get a feel of the vibes and visuals.

Man tried to use skid-steer as a weapon on I-10 Thursday morning
Man tried to use skid-steer as a weapon on I-10 Thursday morning
Editor’s Note: News 5 has updated this article to clarify the machine used in the chase: it’s a skid steer.
UPDATE (5:47 p.m.): News 5 is learning more about an incident Thursday morning in which a man driving a stolen skid steer led police on a chase that ended in gunfire.
According to a news release from the Mobile Police Department, officers observed a previously reported stolen skid steer just after 10 a.m. Thursday at the intersection of Noble Drive and Noble Lane in Tillmans Corner.
Mobile police said the skid steer had also been used in an attempt to strike a citizen before they saw it at that intersection.
Officers attempted to stop the skid steer, and the skid steer driver then attempted to hit an officer with the skid steer. He then drove off and made his way to westbound Interstate 10 near Highway 90.
Mobile police attempted to make another traffic stop, but the driver continued to drive away and was then driving eastbound in the westbound lanes of I-10. He then turned around and exited the interstate at Exit 15B back toward Highway 90.
During the chase, an MPD vehicle was hit by the skid steer and majorly damaged.
The driver continued to try to strike police vehicles and officers, which led to the officers responding with gunfire.
The skid steer driver was injured and taken to a local hospital.
MPD officials said the investigation remains active.
UPDATE (2:09 p.m.): Mobile police said a suspect tried to use a Kubota skid steer as a guided weapon during a low-speed chase that ended in gunfire.
Mobile Police responded to a theft call Thursday morning of a man who had allegedly stolen a Kubota skid steer. When officers arrived, Deputy Chief Melvin Jones said the suspect tried to collide with officers.
“The individual in the vehicle attempted to ram a police vehicle,” Jones said.
From there, a low-speed chase began in the area of I-10 and Rangeline Road.
The suspect traveled Westbound on I-10 before investigators said he turned the skid steer into oncoming traffic, traveling east in the westbound lanes.
“The individual then attempted again to ram vehicles,” Jones said.
A portion of the westbound lanes on I-10 were temporarily shut down as officers forced the suspect onto exit 15B, where the chase came to an end with what one witness described as multiple shots fired.
“At first it went off, like two shots. Then it got silent. Then we heard like another six or seven more rounds,” the witness said. “It caught me by shock because you wouldn’t normally hear something like that coming from the interstate.”
The witness said the suspect then lodged the skid steer in a ditch.
“After a while, we just heard sirens. Then we just saw police lights through the trees,” the witness said.
The suspect was hospitalized with unknown injuries.
“As far as we know, we think he was shot,” Jones said. “We’re not sure yet.”
I-10 Westbound is back open. The 15-B exit remains closed as the investigation continues.
UPDATE (12:45 p.m.): Interstate 10 westbound has reopened, with the I-10 westbound exit, 15B, remaining closed “until further notice,” a Mobile Police Department spokesperson said.
UPDATE (12:35 p.m.): News 5’s Asher Redd has spoken with a witness of the slow skid-steer chase on Interstate 10 in Mobile.
The witness said he heard eight to nine gunshots during the event.
The skid steer driver, who led Mobile police on the I-10 westbound chase, attempted to ram into an officer and others on the road, according to investigators.
Parts of the interstate near Tillman’s Corner were blocked off after investigators say the suspect turned the tractor around and started going east in the westbound lanes.
The chase ended on the 15B exit ramp with a shooting.
The suspect is now in the hospital. We don’t know the severity of his injuries.
UPDATE (11:25 a.m.): News 5 has learned more about a low-speed chase that happened this morning on Interstate 10.
A man allegedly stole a Kubota skid steer and led local law enforcement in a chase on I-10 westbound, according to officials. The driver then allegedly turned around and headed east in westbound lanes.
The chase reportedly ended at the exit 15B exit.
(Asher Redd, News 5)
News 5 has learned that a shooting took place, and the skid steer driver was injured.
I-10 westbound at exit 15A through 15B will be closed “until further notice while investigators continue to work this scene,” a Mobile Police spokesperson said.
This story is developing. News 5 will update this article as more information becomes available.

NZ cyclist Ally Wollaston wins Cadel Evans race
New Zealand cyclist Ally Wollaston has capped a successful week by winning the Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race.
The FDJ Suez rider timed her sprint perfectly in Geelong at the end of Saturday’s 142.4km race for a convincing win.
She also took out the Surf Coast classic on Wednesday in the lead-up to the Cadel Evans race.
Saturday marks Wollaston’s first win at WorldTour level since she took out stage one of last year’s Tour Down Under in Adelaide.
Wollaston also won a silver and a bronze medal on the track last year at the Olympics.
She was in a select group of 14 riders that decided the Cadel Evans race, with Dutch rider Karlijn Swinkels (UAE) second and Swiss Noemi Ruegg (EF Education Oatly) third after winning the Tour Down Under earlier this month.
American star Chloe Dygert (Canyon Sram) was another pre-race favourite and she finished fourth.
Dutch rider Babette van der Wolf (EF Education Oatly) attacked inside the last 70km and Norway’s Stine Dale (Coop-Repsol) joined her.
After dropping back to the peloton, van der Wolf was caught in another ****** just before the riders hit the first of two climbs up the steep Challambra Rd, a key feature of the race.
Dale stayed away over the top of Challambra and was caught inside the last 20km.
A series of crashes punctuated the second half of the race, with *********** Alyssa Polites (ARA national team) and Dutch rider Daniek Hengeveld (Ceratizit) among those to abandon.
They were prominent earlier this month in Adelaide at the Tour Down Under, with Polites winning the queen of the mountain category and Hengeveld a surprise winner of stage one.
*********** Neve Bradbury (Canyon Sram), one of the top riders in the field, was a late withdrawal on Saturday morning because of illness.
Compatriot Luke Plapp (Jayco AlUla) is also out of the men’s race on Sunday.

Will Bitcoin Emerge as the New ‘Digital Gold’ for National Reserves?
Will Bitcoin Emerge as the New ‘Digital Gold’ for National Reserves?
President Donald Trump signed an executive order relating to cryptocurrencies. The US is now one step closer to the creation of a strategic reserve.
History shows that early adopters often gain a strategic advantage. Nations that first embraced coal and steel led the Industrial Revolution, and nations that were early to add to their reserves accumulated the most. Bitcoin, often referred to as “digital gold,” could be the next transformative asset.
Current Global Situation
Some countries already hold Bitcoin, mainly from seizures linked to ******** activities. It is also likely that some governments are buying bitcoin, without officially including them in their reserves or disclosing these acquisitions.
Source: Bitcoin Treasuries by BiTBO
As the first country to adopt bitcoin as legal tender, El Salvador is the most remarkable example of bitcoin’s integration into national reserves, where it now accounts for 10% of the country’s assets. In the United States, the Bitcoin debate is also taking center stage. President Donald Trump is calling for the creation of a strategic bitcoin reserve. Legislators such as Senator Cynthia Lummis have proposed acquiring 200,000 bitcoins a year for five years. She has just been appointed chair of the Senate Banking Subcommittee on Digital Assets. The senator wants to “urgently pass” legislation for a strategic bitcoin reserve.
Should this proposal come to pass, the United States would hold almost 5% of the total supply of Bitcoin, capped at 21 million. This project envisages financing these acquisitions by selling part of the gold reserves and using profits. However, the Federal Reserve remains reluctant, with Chairman Jerome Powell stating that the Fed was “not looking to change its position” on holding. Indeed, the Federal Reserve Act limits the assets held by the Fed to those offering liquidity, stability and low risk, which excludes bitcoin for the time being. Thus, any formal adoption would require a legislative amendment. It’s worth noting, however, that so far 11 states, including Florida, Wyoming and Massachusetts, have already introduced bills to include bitcoin in their national reserves.
Similarly, in Switzerland, the Swiss National Bank is considering adding bitcoin to its reserves alongside gold. The committee behind the proposal, entitled “For a financially strong, sovereign, and responsible Switzerland (Bitcoin Initiative),” has 18 months to gather the 100,000 signatures required to bring it to a public vote.
On the other hand, the European Union remains cautious about integrating bitcoin in its financial strategies. As the European Central Bank (ECB) focuses on the development of the Digital Euro, bitcoin’s potential role in European reserves remains highly contested. The ECB has criticised Bitcoin for its volatility and lack of intrinsic value. In a recent report, the ECB described it as a speculative asset that “fuels division in society,” highlighting how early adopters have profited at the expense of late adopters. Former ******* Finance Minister Christian Lindner urged the ECB and the Bundesbank to consider bitcoin as a reserve asset, warning that Europe cannot afford to stay behind in the global cryptocurrency debate.
Rumours suggest that BRICS countries (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa), are potentially accumulating bitcoin in anticipation of President Trump’s proposed bitcoin reserve. Brazilian congressman Eros Biondini introduced a bill in November, proposing the Strategic Sovereign Bitcoin Reserve (RESBit). The initiative suggests allocating up to 5% of Brazil’s $372 billion reserves to Bitcoin, translating to an $18.6 billion potential investment.
Russia, amidst sanctions and economic pressures, is considering bitcoin as an alternative reserve asset. In December 2024, President Vladimir Putin praised Bitcoin as a viable substitute for traditional reserves, stating, “Who can prohibit it? No one”. Russian lawmakers are currently evaluating the feasibility of a strategic bitcoin reserve to diversify state holdings.
China’s stance on Bitcoin remains ambivalent. While the country enforces strict controls on private cryptocurrency use, speculation surrounds its accumulation of bitcoin reserves. In Hong Kong, Wu Jiexhuang, a Legislative Council member, advocated for bitcoin integration into financial reserves, citing the potential global implications of the U.S.’s bitcoin strategy.
Reasons Why Central Banks Might Consider Bitcoin
National Debt Reduction
Bitcoin’s rising value could theoretically help reduce the country’s national debt. VanEck proposes a strategic reserve of one million bitcoins, aiming for a 35% reduction in the U.S. national debt ($36 trillion) by 2049. Their analysis estimates that Bitcoin’s price would need to grow at a compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) of 25%, reaching $42.3 million per unit by 2049.
This reserve, financed without monetary creation or public funds, would leverage the 198,100 bitcoins already seized by the government and utilise part of the $455 billion in gold reserves to acquire bitcoins. If this optimistic scenario unfolds, bitcoin could represent 18% of global financial assets by 2049, compared to its current 0.22%, offsetting approximately $42 trillion in liabilities.
Source: U.S. national debt with bitcoin reserve growth from 2025 to 2049, VanEck
Portfolio Diversification
Bitcoin serves as an effective tool for portfolio diversification due to its low correlation with traditional assets and unique risk-return dynamics. A study by Cheng (2023) shows that bitcoin’s correlation with major asset classes like the , MSCI indices, and gold is below 0.2, and often negative, making it valuable for portfolio diversification.
Hedge Against Inflation
Bitcoin’s capped supply creates scarcity, a fundamental trait for assets used to combat inflation. This was evident during hyperinflation in countries like Venezuela and Turkey, where Bitcoin offered short-term financial relief. Its ability to gain value during inflationary shocks also makes it a useful tool for central banks looking to protect against currency devaluation.
Geopolitical Flexibility
Bitcoin offers an alternative to traditional banking networks. This aspect makes it particularly attractive to the BRICS nations, who are actively seeking to reduce their dependence on the for trade. At their last summit in 2024, BRICS leaders proposed integrating Bitcoin into international payments to support their de-dollarisation strategy.
By exploiting the decentralised nature of Bitcoin, these countries aim to build an alternative financial system capable of bypassing Western sanctions and reducing their dependence on dollar-dominated infrastructures such as SWIFT. In 2023, the Russian exchange platform Garantex processed 82% of crypto transactions linked to sanctioned entities. These uses illustrate the potential interest of Bitcoin for countries seeking to evade international sanctions.
Properties Superior to Gold
Intrinsic properties such as portability and divisibility make it a potentially superior reserve asset to gold. Bitcoin enables instant transactions and 24/7 exchanges.
Challenges and Risks of Bitcoin as a Reserve Asset
Volatility
Bitcoin’s extreme volatility poses the biggest challenge for adoption as a reserve asset due to its unpredictable price swings and market sensitivity. Its volatility is 3.9 times higher than gold and 4.6 times greater than global equities. Since 2014, bitcoin has faced four major drawdowns of over 50%, with some exceeding 80% and taking years to recover.
However, the realised volatility of bitcoin has decreased over time, with one-year volatility dropping to below 50% in 2024, from over 100% in 2018 and now converges with high-risk stocks. Bitcoin’s volatility has been lower than many large-cap stocks, such as Netflix (NASDAQ:), where realised volatility averaged 53% compared to Bitcoin’s 46%. Nevertheless, bitcoin’s volatility remains substantially higher than bonds or equities, making it an unpredictable and risky choice for governments.
Source: Glassnode
Regulation
Bitcoin’s adoption as a financial asset is hindered by the lack of universal classification for Bitcoin, which varies by jurisdiction. In the U.S., Bitcoin is treated as a commodity by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), bringing it under pre-existing commodity trading regulations.
On the other hand, the European Union introduced the Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) framework, set to be fully implemented in 2025. MiCA recognises bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies as unique crypto-assets, distinct from traditional financial instruments or commodities. Each has tailored regulatory requirements based on its characteristics and uses.
The lack of investor protection mechanisms, common in traditional securities markets, compounds the problem. For instance, the Celsius Network insolvency in 2022 impacted over 40,000 users across 150 countries, leaving customers classified as unsecured creditors and resulting in $4.7 billion in losses. Without coordinated global standards and transparent legal frameworks, bitcoin’s potential to serve as a stable and trustworthy financial asset will remain constrained.
Custodial Risks
Custodial risks in cryptocurrency management center on securing private keys, as their loss or theft can result in the total loss of the associated funds, leaving owners with no way to recover their assets. A striking example is the QuadrigaCX case, where the CEO’s death rendered $190 million in cold wallet funds irretrievable. Solutions such as multi-signature wallets or secure custodial services should be considered by central banks if they aim to include bitcoin as an integral part of their reserves, to mitigate risks associated with private key management.
Barriers to Using Bitcoin as a Medium of Exchange
As things currently stand, bitcoin is not in a position to serve as a major cross-border payment currency, for a number of reasons. First of all, the Bitcoin network is unable to process enough transactions to meet the demands of the global financial system. The daily number of Bitcoin transactions varies but is currently around 700,000 per day. In comparison, Visa processes almost 660 million transactions per day, almost 1,000 times as many.
Additionally, the Bitcoin software that governs the network doesn’t support complex smart contract languages, so users can’t create sophisticated financial applications. Last but not least, since bitcoin’s rate of inflation (or marginal supply) is limited, for miners to cover their expenses, bitcoin transactions must end up constituting the overwhelming majority of fees paid to miners to compensate for the reduction in inflation. This will put the brakes on transactions for the foreseeable future. The solution could one day come from so-called Layer 2 (see article on the lightning network).
Conclusion
Despite certain limitations, bitcoin’s intrinsic properties, growing adoption, historical performance and current macroeconomic and geopolitical situation make the world’s largest digital currency an attractive alternative for national reserves. Its adoption as a reserve asset by a powerful country could trigger a domino effect, prompting other countries to follow suit.

Italy denies asylum for 43 migrants relocated to Albania, and observers say they were denied lawyers
Italy denies asylum for 43 migrants relocated to Albania, and observers say they were denied lawyers
MILAN (AP) — Italian authorities on Thursday rejected the asylum requests of 43 asylum-seekers transferred to Albania in a speedy procedure that a non-governmental delegation observing the process said illegally deprived them of legal assistance.
“The commission is clearly operating in line with the expressed desire of the government to refuse the asylum requests, in violation of international, European and constitutional law,’’ the **** Asylum and Immigration Board said in a statement.
The migrants were among 49 people who were transferred to Albania on an Italian naval ship Tuesday under a five-year agreement with Albania to process asylum cases outside EU borders in centers built and operated by Italy. Italian media reported they were from Bangladesh, Egypt, Ivory Coast and Gambia.

Five migrants were brought to Italy immediately, because they were minors or deemed vulnerable.
Of the remaining, 43 underwent a speedy asylum hearing. One additional case will be heard separately.
This was the first group of migrants to be processed, after courts in Italy refused to approve the transfer to Albania of two groups brought there last year.
The 43 asylum-seekers did not have legal counsel, nor did they have enough time to prepare themselves properly for the hearing, the delegation said. In all cases, authorities deemed the asylum request “unfounded.”
“These are decisions that involve the lives of asylum-seekers who have terrible stories of violence and torture behind them, and they cannot be taken in such a short ******* of time without the possibility of legal aid,’’ **** said.
The asylum-seekers have seven days to go to an Italian court to appeal the decision, or face deportation directly from Albania under an agreement between the two countries. Italy has not been clear on how it would repatriate people whose requests are refused.

Auckland stay top with win over Bulls, cop injury blow
Auckland stay top with win over Bulls, cop injury blow
Auckland FC have struck late to claim a 2-1 win over Macarthur FC and consolidate top spot on the A-League Men table.
But Saturday’s hard-fought victory came at a cost, with starting centre-back and Kiwi international Nando Pijnaker forced off the ground through an ankle injury in the 23rd minute.
Auckland enjoyed a dream start when Neyder Moreno scored in the ninth minute, but Macarthur levelled through Jake Hollman in the 19th minute.
Louis Verstraete nodded home a Frances de Vries corner in the 80th minute to give Steve Corica’s charges all three points at Go Media Stadium.
Auckland (33 points) are five points clear of second-placed Adelaide, who play Sydney FC on Saturday evening.
They have a two-week break before travelling to face third-placed Western United on February 15 and will hope Pijnaker’s injury isn’t too serious, given Dan Hall is already sidelined.
Verstraete will miss that match after picking up his fifth yellow card of the season late on Saturday.
Mile Sterjovski’s fourth-placed Bulls (24 points) missed a chance to go third on the table and could drop further, depending on other results.
The Bulls were playing their first game since Jed Drew departed for Austria, with Chris Ikonomidis starting, while Josh Damevski replaced the unwell Matt Jurman.
Auckland took the lead when Hiroki Sakai’s long throw-in was headed to the near post by a leaping Max Mata, with Moreno on hand to bundle home.
In the 18th minute, Auckland received a massive let-off when Moreno was ruled not to have fouled Ikonomidis inside the 18-yard box, when it appeared a stonewall penalty.
But the Bulls immediately shook it off, scoring less than a minute later.
Skipper Valere Germain made a super run to reach a wonderful dipping Marin Jakolis ball, forcing a save from Alex Pailsen, with Hollman arriving first at the scene to tap home the rebound.
Both teams defended desperately throughout the second half, but after Verstraete’s header cracked the Bulls’ defence, Auckland closed out the game in professional fashion.
Macarthur next face Western United at Campbelltown Stadium on February 9.

Do You Have Any Idea How Big This is For WWE Fans? Triple H’s $5 Billion Deal With Netflix is Worth It and WWE 2k Mobile is One of the Reasons
Do You Have Any Idea How Big This is For WWE Fans? Triple H’s $5 Billion Deal With Netflix is Worth It and WWE 2k Mobile is One of the Reasons
We knew something big was coming when fans saw the historic $5 billion deal between entertainment giants WWE and Netflix. But few expected it to go beyond streaming and into gaming. According to a new announcement, WWE 2K Mobile is set to launch exclusively on Netflix Games in the fall of 2025. So Raw moving to Netflix as an exclusive isn’t the only move.

With no ads or in-app purchases, this mobile title will be free for all Netflix subscribers. The 2K games have already been a hit on major gaming platforms and if you’re a wrestling fan, you can enjoy some action on your phone very soon. This could be the beginning of something big for WWE gaming.

This new move comes right as Raw moves to Netflix in 2025, ending its 31-year run on traditional television. The partnership between WWE and Netflix is already proving to be impactful because a franchise as big as 2K moving to Netflix’s mobile platform is huge. Netflix’s Gaming division has had some big ambitions recently with other acquisitions such as Grand Theft Auto, Squid Game: Unleashed, and several interactive fiction titles.
IT’S OFFICIAL: WWE has confirmed that WWE 2K will be coming to mobile via Netflix Games in fall 2025.
THIS IS HUGE pic.twitter.com/0uFfN3p7eV
— EliteRockerz 𝕏 (@EliteClubS0B) January 30, 2025
It will be tricky to pull off a mobile version of the 2K games given how mobile games work, but the accessibility could make up for it. But it is easy to wonder how the controls will work because it can’t be too complicated because of the restrictions of mobile gaming. It also can’t be too simple otherwise it won’t feel interactive and fun. So the balance will be interesting to see.
This is not the first time the franchise has attempted a mobile release. Back in 2015, 2K Games launched a mobile version of WWE 2K. At the time, the game was full of problems like performance issues, limited content, and complicated control. It was ultimately removed from app stores following these problems.
It’s been only like a month and the @NetflixUK and @WWE partnership has done nothing but cook
— TheYellingKitty (@TheYellingKitty) January 31, 2025
Set for release in fall 2025, the game will be available exclusively to Netflix subscribers at no additional cost. Netflix and Take Two Interactive have partnered before and have brought mobile versions of Grand Theft Auto to the platform. For WWE fans, this hopefully means they’ll be able to play a high-quality wrestling game without any of the traditional problems of mobile gaming.
The deal with Netflix is making a lot of sense now
A mobile game could be huge for younger audiences. | Image Credit: Visual Concepts/2K
Bringing 2K to mobile isn’t just a win for Netflix though, it’s a massive victory for WWE as well. In 2024, WWE struck a game-changing deal with Netflix to move Raw to the platform. This ended its 31-year run on television and it really makes sense because if you look at the younger audience these days, a lot of them are looking at their phones instead of watching TV. So this gives WWE access to Netflix’s global audience.
The timing of this is also perfect because we’re also getting WWE 2K25 in March 2025 which is already shaping up to be an anticipated release. The game will feature the biggest roster in the franchise’s history, intergender matches, and new gameplay modes. So with a mobile version coming out later in the year, fans will have access to their favorite game across multiple platforms.
We could also speculate that this mobile release could be a testing ground for WWE games on the Nintendo Switch 2 which is also coming out this year. While no official announcement has been made, it’s an interesting prospect. What do you think of this development? Do you think a mobile game will work this time?

Here’s how much rain Southern California’s 2nd winter storm may bring
Here’s how much rain Southern California’s 2nd winter storm may bring
LOS ANGELES (KTLA) – After a long-overdue winter storm finally hit Southern California last weekend, forecasters are now tracking another storm that may bring measurable rain to the region.
A powerful system currently over the Pacific tapped into an atmospheric river, bringing heavy rain to our north. Still, the storm did not dip down far enough to affect Southern California.
By next week, rain is forecast to move down the coast and possibly reach Ventura and Los Angeles counties late Tuesday into Wednesday.
(National Weather Service)
“Wednesday of next week, we may get some light rain … not that blanket rain that’s going to bring showers to everyone,” said KTLA Meteorologist Henry DiCarlo.
The National Weather Service also predicts that most of the rain will fall to our north with light to moderate showers and a low risk for debris flow along Southern California’s fire burn scars.
“Best guess rainfall amounts have increased some with two-day totals now forecast to be near a half inch and perhaps near an inch across some coastal slopes of (Santa Barbara) and western (Ventura) counties,” the National Weather Service stated in Thursday’s forecast.
Despite Southern California needing the rain, missing the heaviest showers would be a positive as our local burn zones are still recovering from recent wildfires. “We do not want the atmospheric river affecting us … It would mean serious problems,” Henry said.

Penn State’s dean of college of communications accepts president role at another university
Penn State’s dean of college of communications accepts president role at another university
After a decade leading Penn State’s college of communications, the dean is leaving to be the president of a small, private university in Connecticut.
Leaders at Quinnipiac University, in Hamden, Connecticut, announced Thursday they selected Marie Hardin as the university’s 10th president, effective July 1. She has been the dean of the Penn State Donald P. Bellisario College of Communications since 2014 and a member of the Penn State faculty since 2003.
Hardin will continue to serve as dean through the spring semester, Penn State said in a news release. Associate Dean Denise Bortree will serve as interim dean beginning June 15 and the university will conduct a national search for the next dean.
Hardin said she has been “fortunate beyond words” to serve as the Bellisario College dean.
“My role has been supporter, champion, facilitator and ambassador for the work of a standout group of faculty and staff, who have helped scores of students succeed and pursue their dreams. When I leave this summer, the memories of that generosity, collegiality and dedication will propel me forward,” Hardin said in the release.
In a release from Quinnipiac, its board of trustees Chairman Chuck Saia and chair of the search committee, said Hardin was a “perfect match.”
“Quinnipiac University has always been ambitious in its vision. We sought an innovative leader who is energized by the opportunity to continue the university’s upward momentum and impact in higher education,” Saia said. “Quinnipiac found the perfect match in Dr. Hardin, whose background positions her as an astute and forward-looking leader for Quinnipiac’s future.”
Hardin succeeds Judy Olian, who has been president of Quinnipiac since 2018.
The Bellisario College is the largest accredited mass communications program in the country, the release states, and Hardin helped strengthen its reputation for high-quality education, expand its impact in interdisciplinary research and its outreach. She has served on many university-wide committees and holds many leadership positions in the journalism and mass communications industries.
But one of the “most public moves” she made in her tenure was leading the Bellisario College’s rebranding in 2017 after securing a $30 million gift from Penn State alumnus Donald P. Bellisario, the release states. The university committed $45 million to support her vision for a new media center. It opened in 2020.
“For the first time in the history of the Bellisario College, the media center brought all departments and majors together to fulfill its mission to prepare the next generation of digital storytellers and industry leaders. The Bellisario College offers some of the largest majors at the University, and it maintains consistently robust graduation rates,” the release states. “Since Hardin became dean, revenue generated through online degree programs has more than tripled, and its annual research expenditures have increased more than four-fold, along with its external support for research.”
Tracy Langkilde, interim executive vice president and provost, spoke highly of Hardin’s leadership and dedication to Penn State.
“Dean Hardin has provided more than two decades of exemplary leadership and service to both the Bellisario College and the wider Penn State community,” Langkilde said in the release. “Her strategic leadership and dedication to the University have provided an example that permeates Penn State and has built an exceptional reputation for the college at Penn State and far beyond. She has positioned the Bellisario College for continuing success going forward.”
Hardin started as an assistant professor at Penn State in 2003 and continued to climb the ladder throughout her time at the university. Before Penn State, she taught at Florida Southern College and the State University of West Georgia. She earned her doctoral degree in 1998 from the University of Georgia.

Pilot’s door was open moments before Fullerton plane ****** that killed 2 and injured 19, investigators say
Pilot’s door was open moments before Fullerton plane ****** that killed 2 and injured 19, investigators say
The door to a pilot’s plane appeared to be ajar as it took off from Fullerton Airport, moments before it crashed into a warehouse, killing two and injuring 19 others, according to investigators.
The Jan. 2 ****** killed a Huntington Beach man, who had been piloting the plane, and his 16-year-old daughter and injured 19 workers in the facility, officials said.
The two killed were identified as Pascal and Kelly Reid.
Citing witness statements and video, investigators said the left door of the Van’s Aircraft RV-10 was left ajar after the plane had taken off, according to a preliminary report released Thursday by the National Transportation Safety Board.
A witness at the airport saw the plane go by him after takeoff, noticing that the “left door was open and up. He then saw an arm reach up and pull the door down,” according to the report. The witness assumed that the pilot had closed the door, the report says.
Modifications had been made to the door, including to the standard locking system, which affected the warning system that was designed to alert the pilot when the door isn’t closed, according to the report. The door had solid steel locking pins instead of kit-supplied aluminum pins, the report said. The plane’s UHMW polyethylene door blocks had also been replaced with chamfered aluminum blocks, according to the report.

Another witness, who knew the pilot, saw him taxi the airplane from the southeast corner of the airport’s runway, according to the report. Security video showed that the left front door was “in the down position” but was “not flush with the fuselage.”
After takeoff, the pilot transmitted a signal to the control tower for an “immediate landing” and the tower controller asked whether he could make a left turn, according to the report. The pilot reported that he would land on Runway 24, climbing to about 950 feet and completing a left turn. The plane then passed the threshold for Runway 24, and an “unintelligible transmission was heard” from the plane.
The plane crashed into the roof of a Michael Nicholas Designs furniture warehouse store, about 1,500 feet from the approach end of Runway 24, according to the report.
Other witnesses said they saw the plane flying lower than normal during its final stages of flight, the report said. The plane rolled to the left and then to the right as its nose dropped and dived toward the warehouse, “where it collided in a fireball,” according to the report. Just before the ******, the witnesses said, they saw a “white piece fall from the airplane” that appeared “panel-like” as it “floated” to the ground.
