The Latest iPhone Update Includes 1 Feature You Might Want To Turn Off ASAP
The Latest iPhone Update Includes 1 Feature You Might Want To Turn Off ASAP
“Apple Intelligence” tools are a growing part of the iPhone experience. But you can choose to opt out of them if needed. Illustration:Jianan Liu/HuffPost; Photo:Getty Images
If you are an iPhone user, you have been hearing a lot about the AI-powered “Apple Intelligence” tools.
Available on iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1, macOS Sequoia 15.1 or later versions, including the recently-released iOS 18.3, the latest updates include ChatGPT integration, the “Image Playground” that creates images from your text descriptions, notification summaries of messages, and “Visual Intelligence” that lets you learn about objects and places by pointing your iPhone’s camera at them.
But if you’re not a fan of Apple Intelligence features, you may be in the majority. In a recent survey of 1,000 people by tech trade-in site SellCell, 73% of Apple Intelligence users said they found the features to be either “not very valuable” or “add little to no value” to their smartphone experience. (Ouch.)
Unfortunately for the haters, Apple Intelligence is a growing part of the iPhone experience ― and quite literally in the case of storage.
In December, Apple updated its website to note that Apple Intelligence now requires at least 7 gigabytes of storage to maintain the features, as opposed to the 4 gigabytes of storage the tools originally required to work.
And soon, Apple Intelligence will be a default setting. Right now, Apple Intelligence is not turned on automatically. But 9to5Mac reported that starting with iOS 18.3, which is set to be released in the coming days, Apple will automatically enable Apple Intelligence in iPhones, according to Apple’s beta release notes.
In other words, you will have to actively choose to opt out once you do this new update.
For many, that storage is valuable. Most of us don’t want to delete photos or take the time to go through the thousands of screenshots we’ve taken over the years. Or perhaps we don’t want to off-load some of our favorite apps in favor of making room for new images or texts.
If you have already been using Apple Intelligence, you can see for yourself how much storage it takes up on your iPhone. Go to “settings,” then “general.” Select “iPhone storage,” and then select “iOS.” From there, you can see how many gigabytes Apple Intelligence is eating up on your device.
If you are dismayed by the number you see, you still have a way to opt out and free up your storage if you have an older iPhone where every gigabyte counts.
To turn off Apple Intelligence on your iOS devices:1. Go to “settings” on your iPhone or iPad, or “system settings” on your Mac. 2. Go to “general” and select “storage.” 3. Toggle off Apple Intelligence.
You can toggle out of all Apple Intelligence features in “settings.” iPhone / HuffPost
How To Free Up Storage Without Disabling Apple Intelligence
Maybe you do love those notification summaries and the “Clean Up” tool and want to keep using them. There are other ways to get back storage on your iPhone without turning off Apple Intelligence. Here are two ways:
Buy More Storage
This is not the free option, but buying an iPhone with more standard storage capabilities is one way to escape the headache of every iOS update taking up more valuable real estate on your device. The iPhone Pro models, for example, have the most storage space with 1 terabyte, which is helpful if you are a gamer or creator with video needs.
Also, if you already have an iPhone and want to keep more photos and files on your device, buying the iCloud+ premium subscription will expand your iCloud service and storage capabilities.
Delete Large Attachments
This is the free option if you want to clear up storage fast. Go to “settings,” then “general,” then “iPhone storage.” There you will see exactly the percentage of storage that your applications, photos, music, messages and iOS take up.
Scroll down and see what your iPhone advises you do under “recommendations.” My own iPhone, for example, suggested that I review large attachments from videos so that I could save up to 45 gigabytes. Once I selected to view the attachments, I could quickly select “edit” to click which old videos I wanted to delete.
Ultimately, freeing up space on your device can be tedious, but the storage capabilities on your iPhone can be the difference between a phone that functions well and one that feels slower than ever.

Federal judge temporarily blocks DOGE from accessing sensitive Treasury Department payment systems
Federal judge temporarily blocks DOGE from accessing sensitive Treasury Department payment systems
U.S. President-elect Donald Trump walks with Elon Musk before attending a viewing of the launch of the sixth test flight of the SpaceX Starship rocket, in Brownsville, Texas, U.S., November 19, 2024.

On Saturday, a federal judge temporarily blocked political appointees and special government employees, including those who work for the Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE, from accessing sensitive and confidential information stored within the Treasury Department.
The decision comes after 19 state attorneys general sued the federal government on Friday, alleging that tech mogul Elon Musk and his DOGE staffers had no authority to access Treasury Department data that includes Americans’ social security numbers and other confidential financial information.
U.S. District Judge Judge Paul A. Engelmayer issued the temporary restraining order, which blocks the government from “granting access to all political appointees, special government employees, and government employees detailed from an agency outside the Treasury Department, to any Treasury Department payment record, payment systems, or any other data systems maintained by the Treasury Department containing personally identifiable information and/or confidential financial information of payees.”
Engelmayer’s order also requires anyone in those groups who may have had previous access to this sensitive data since Trump took office to “to immediately destroy any and all copies of material downloaded from the Treasury Department’s records and systems.”
A hearing has been set for February 14 for arguments on the attorneys general’s request for a preliminary injunction in the case.
The White House and the Department of Justice did not immediately respond to requests for comment on this story.
In a similar case in Washington earlier this week, a group of union members and retirees also sued the government, alleging that the ability of DOGE staffers to access this Treasury Department data violated federal privacy laws.
The Trump administration on Wednesday agreed to block all but two DOGE staffers — Tom Krause and Marko Elez — from accessing the data and said that Krause and Elez would only access sensitive data “as needed … provided that such access to payment records will be ‘read only.'”
Elez was caught in a separate controversy on Friday, when he resigned from DOGE after the Wall Street Journal linked him to a now-defunct social media account that espoused racist and eugenic views.
After Vice President JD Vance defended Elez online, writing in a post on X that, “I don’t think stupid social media activity should ruin a kid’s life,” Musk promised to reinstate him in his role at DOGE.

2025 is going to be another big year for commercial moon missions
2025 is going to be another big year for commercial moon missions
As soon as late February, a lunar lander will depart from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center on its way to the moon carrying instruments that could investigate what’s just beneath the surface. Barely two months into the year, it’ll be the third mission to have set out on a journey toward the moon so far in 2025. If 2024 was all about , 2025 is the year of doubling down. Well, unless Trump and shift the focus to Mars under Elon Musk’s direction, throwing off the whole timeline. But as it stands, it should be a busy year for the moon.
Last year kicked off with the launch of Astrobotics’ Peregrine lander, marking the first of several missions led by companies working under multimillion-dollar contracts as part of NASA’s Commercial Lunar Payload Services (CLPS) program. Peregrine ultimately after suffering a propellant leak post-launch, but only a few weeks later, Intuitive Machines launched and on the moon — a first for a private spacecraft. (Odysseus , but its payloads were still able to collect and transmit some data).
Now, fast-forward to this year, and NASA has half a dozen CLPS missions on its schedule. The first of these, Firefly Aerospace’s Blue Ghost Mission 1, launched on January 15 on a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket. That same rocket also carried a lunar lander made by the Japanese company ispace, which is making endeavor, Hakuto-R.
To view this content, you’ll need to update your privacy settings. Please click here and view the “Content and social-media partners” setting to do so.
Firefly’s lander, Blue Ghost, is expected to arrive at the moon first, with a target landing date of March 2 in an area called Mare Crisium. The 6.6-foot-tall solar-powered spacecraft is carrying 10 science payloads for NASA and other partners. That includes a new dust shield system to demonstrate how future missions might prevent particulates from accumulating on spacecraft, instruments for testing sample collection and Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS)-based navigation and a radiation tolerant computer. “The objectives of the mission are to investigate heat flow from the lunar interior, plume-surface interactions, [and] crustal electric and magnetic fields,” according to NASA. “It will also take X-ray images of the Earth’s magnetosphere.”
Resilience, the ispace lander, is taking a different, low-energy and won’t reach its site, Mare Frigoris, until late May or June. That craft has a micro rover called Tenacious on board that is designed to explore, collect surface material and relay data. In addition to a camera and shovel, Tenacious has a tiny model house mounted on it — specifically the “,” by Swedish artist Mikael Genberg. The lander is carrying water electrolyzer equipment, a deep space radiation probe and a food production experiment module. (And how could we forget, it also contains a commemorative alloy plate from Bandai Namco Research Institute made in the style of the Gundam franchise’s “Charter of the Universal Century”).
ispace
Intuitive Machines, the company that pulled off the first-ever commercial moon landing with its Odysseus craft last year, is slated to launch its second CLPS mission in the next month or so, around the end of February. The IM-2 Nova-C lander dubbed Athena is headed to the lunar south pole with a meter-long drill and a mass spectrometer for NASA’s Polar Resources Ice Mining Experiment-1 (PRIME-1). Its goal is to demonstrate the feasibility of drilling for samples and analyzing those samples on-site for things like water. will also serve as a rideshare for NASA’s Lunar Trailblazer, a small orbiter that will “study the form, abundance and distribution of lunar water and its relation to geology.”
Besides the PRIME-1 instruments, Athena will transport a laser retroreflector array, an Intuitive Machines Micro-Nova Hopper — described as “a propulsive drone that deploys off of a Nova-C lander and hops across the lunar surface” — and a Lunar Surface Communication System “network in a box” made by Nokia. The two companies plan to set up the moon’s first cellular network, which is “engineered to handle surface connectivity between the lander and vehicles, carrying high-definition video streaming, command-and-control communications and telemetry data.”
Intuitive Machines
There’s a chance Blue Origin’s Blue Moon Mark 1 lunar lander will take its first trip to the moon as soon as this spring or summer. John Couluris, a senior VP at Blue Origin, said in an interview with last March that “we’re expecting to land on the moon between 12 and 16 months from today.” At the time, the company hadn’t yet launched its New Glenn rocket — which would be the vehicle for this mission — even once, so that claim didn’t hold much weight. But after many, many delays, in mid-January.
NASA revealed, in an FCC filing spotted by back in August, that it had selected Blue Origin’s lander to bring a camera system, the Stereo Cameras for Lunar Plume Surface Studies (SCALPSS), to the moon’s south pole this year under the CLPS program. In the filing, NASA notes that this needs to be done before 2025 is over, as the data collected by the instrument at landing will help inform plans for the first crewed Artemis moon landing. SCALPSS payloads have flown on other CLPS missions, but the thrust level of Blue Origin’s Mark 1 lander is closer to the scale of the Human Landing System will use for astronauts.
Blue Origin said in another the same month that its demonstration lunar mission, Pathfinder, could launch as early as March 2025, SpaceNews reported. Don’t be surprised if it actually happens much later.
The next CLPS mission after that isn’t expected to take off until the fall, when Astrobotic will get another shot at landing on the moon. This time, it’ll be sending its larger Griffin lander to a region near the south pole. Griffin Mission 1 was initially supposed to carry NASA’s Volatiles Investigating Polar Exploration Rover (VIPER), but of that project late last year due to delays and rising costs. Astrobotic’s lander won’t show up to the moon empty-handed, though. It’ll have a tiny solar-powered CubeRover in tow, as well as a laser retroreflector array to pinpoint the lander’s location.
Astrobotic
We may see a third Intuitive Machines mission before the end of this year. The company and NASA are eyeing late 2025 or early 2026 for the launch of IM-3, which will deliver a suite of instruments focused on studying the magnetic and plasma properties of the Reiner Gamma lunar swirl, an area with its own “mini-magnetosphere.” A rover called the Mobile Autonomous Prospecting Platform (MAPP) will also be on board, plus a trio of small rovers from the Cooperative Autonomous Distributed Robotic Exploration (CADRE) project that will demonstrate mostly autonomous robots working together. The European Space Agency’s MoonLIGHT laser retroreflector will fly with IM-3 too, along with and the Lunar Space Environment Monitor, from South Korea’s Korea Astronomy and Space Science Institute (KASI).
While this year is certain to bring a lot of activity on and around the moon, there’s one thing we won’t see there just yet — humans. NASA has adjusted the timeline of the Artemis missions a few times since the program’s announcement, and in December that it’s pushing the first crewed flight, Artemis II, to April 2026. The agency previously said it was shooting for September 2025. Artemis III, the mission in which two astronauts will go to the lunar surface, now isn’t expected to launch until mid-2027.

Meet the Supercharged Growth Stock That Could Make You a Millionaire
Meet the Supercharged Growth Stock That Could Make You a Millionaire
What’s your ultimate investing goal? For most people, it’s complete financial independence. Although it’s not a massive amount of money anymore, a million bucks is still something of a mental milestone that says you’ve reached an important goal. The key to getting there, of course, is just buying and holding the right stocks.
With that as the backdrop, millionaire-minded investors might want to put an up-and-coming company called AppLovin (NASDAQ: APP) on their radars, if not in their portfolios. It’s got the potential to turn a modest amount of money now into a sizable sum in the future.
There’s a good chance you’ve never heard of it. There’s an even better chance, you’ve already seen its work firsthand. AppLovin helps companies advertise their products or services on mobile devices (including within apps) as well as through ad-supported streaming television. Companies ranging from Experian to DealDash to SmartNews have all benefited greatly by tapping AppLovin for assistance navigating this tricky market.
But first things first.
Advertising isn’t what it used to be. There was once a time when companies simply took a leap of faith on the purchase of TV commercial time, a billboard, and maybe some print-based promotion targeting what was more or less the right audience. The approach basically worked well enough. Smaller companies that didn’t have a ton of money to work with were forced to be more creative but were often left struggling to connect with consumers due to the lack of an advertising budget.
Not anymore. As it has so many other industries, the advent of the internet has disrupted the advertising business. Smaller players now enjoy more flexibility in terms of how much ad inventory they can buy. And ads are highly targeted thanks to the digital footprints all of us leave behind when we go online. This is why spending on digital video advertising in the U.S. (the biggest connected-TV market) surpassed cable/linear TV advertising spending last year, according to Interactive Advertising Bureau, while mobile advertising itself has been ******* than the traditional web advertising market for some time now.
The flipside? This newfound flexibility and tighter targeting has also drawn out a huge number of players all vying for consumers’ attention. Advertisers need a technical edge in this digital age — and that’s what AppLovin provides.
There’s more than one service on AppLovin’s menu. It offers several ways of helping a company grow by cost-effectively expanding its advertising’s reach. Take its flagship AppDiscovery service as an example. Just as the name suggests, this solution drives installations of a company’s app by leveraging the power of artificial intelligence to determine which consumers are likely to download an app and not wasting resources on anyone less likely to do so. The end result is a stronger return on dollars invested in advertising.
Story Continues
Then there’s AppLovin’s MAX aimed at companies that have already developed an app they would like to monetize — or better monetize — by injecting the occasional well-targeted ad into its users’ experience. MAX essentially allows app owners to sell their own ad inventory to the highest bidder, in real time.
SparkLabs serves advertisers again, allowing them to construct animated or even video advertisements with the strongest install-per-impressions rate.
While mobile apps are hardly new at this point, the need for such logistical improvements translates into an enormous growth opportunity. Technology market research outfit Technavio predicts the mobile advertising industry is set to grow at an annualized pace of more than 14% through 2028. Separately but simultaneously, Omdia believes the connected-television ad market alone is likely to double in size between now and 2029.
This tailwind doesn’t necessarily make AppLovin the easiest name to step into right now. Anyone keeping tabs on this ticker of late likely knows it has soared more than 300% just since September when investors first began connecting the dots between what the digital advertising market needs and what this company offers.
This big move has shares valued richly at more than 60 times last year’s projected per-share earnings and roughly 50 times this year’s expected bottom line. The stock’s also within sight of analysts’ consensus price target of nearly $383. That’s a tough valuation to get behind.
Just take a step back and look at the ******* picture. The stock may be expensive, but this profitable company is growing like crazy, already outpacing the aforementioned outlooks from Omdia and Technavio.
Data source: StockAnalysis.com. Chart by author.
The market has certainly supported crazier valuations before, with stories that were less compelling than this one. Just don’t lose perspective. While AppLovin is one of the names that could lead your portfolio’s charge to the seven-figure mark, this higher potential is also paired with higher risk, not to mention higher volatility that’s sure to linger for a while longer. It fits the bill for the aggressive growth portion of your portfolio, but it’s far from being a foundational holding that can go for years on end without regular monitoring.
Before you buy stock in AppLovin, consider this:
The Motley Fool Stock Advisor analyst team just identified what they believe are the 10 best stocks for investors to buy now… and AppLovin wasn’t one of them. The 10 stocks that made the cut could produce monster returns in the coming years.
Consider when Nvidia made this list on April 15, 2005… if you invested $1,000 at the time of our recommendation, you’d have $795,728!*
Now, it’s worth noting Stock Advisor’s total average return is 926% — a market-crushing outperformance compared to 177% for the S&P 500. Don’t miss out on the latest top 10 list.

‘It is much more of a shock to the system’
‘It is much more of a shock to the system’
The world may be warming, but deaths related to cold weather are on the rise across the U.S., new research reveals.
What’s happening?
The New York Times reported on a study that found that the number of deaths where cold was an underlying or contributing factor more than doubled from 1999 to 2022.
This may come as a shock to some — temperatures in the U.S. are, on average, 4 degrees Fahrenheit warmer than they were 50 years ago, the publication reported, citing info from Climate Central. However, it explained that our overheating planet is also leading to more frequent bursts of extremely frigid winter weather.
“We are less accustomed to experiencing those cold temperatures, so that when they do occur, it is much more of a shock to the system,” Victor Gensini, a professor of meteorology at Northern Illinois University, explained to the Times.
Why is the study concerning?
Frigid weather can cause serious conditions like frostbite and hypothermia, the National Weather Service warns. Frostbite can lead to the loss of extremities like fingers and toes, while hypothermia can kill. And hypothermia survivors often endure lasting kidney, liver, and pancreas problems.
In addition to health impacts in humans, extremely cold weather can also cause severe damage to certain crops and can lead to pipes freezing or bursting inside homes, the NWS adds.
Watch now: CEO reveals form of energy that has ‘polled across political lines’ for over a decade
Meanwhile, heat deaths are also on the rise in the United States, thanks to rising global temperatures. In fact, one recent study discovered a 117% increase in heat-related deaths between 1999 and 2023, and researchers expect the trend to continue. For instance, heat waves in the Pacific Northwest in 2024 were the suspected cause of at least 16 deaths in Oregon.
Who’s most at risk?
The study found that people 75 and older are especially vulnerable since our ability to regulate our body temperature declines with age. The Times also explained that older people often suffer from other chronic conditions, such as diabetes or thyroid problems, which can affect the body’s ability to stay warm if not treated properly.
The study also found that cold-related death rates were highest among American Indians, Alaska Natives, and ****** people, groups that have traditionally been marginalized and often have unequal access to income, education, housing, and health services.
What can people do to protect themselves from the cold?
It’s important to recognize the signs of hypothermia. In adults, these include uncontrollable shivering, memory loss, disorientation, incoherence, slurred speech, drowsiness, and apparent exhaustion, per the NWS. However, as the hypothermia becomes more severe, the person may stop shivering, Mass General Brigham asserts.
According to the NWS, if you see these signs in someone, you should take their temperature. If it’s below 95 degrees Fahrenheit, seek medical care immediately.
If medical care is not available, warm the person slowly, starting with their body core. Use your own body heat if necessary. Make sure the person is in warm, dry clothing, and wrap them in a warm blanket, covering their head and neck.

Is Marvel Rivals Down on PlayStation? Marvel Rivals PSN Servers Explained
Is Marvel Rivals Down on PlayStation? Marvel Rivals PSN Servers Explained
Marvel’s hero shooter has been hotter than the Human Torch since launch. There have been few (if any) bumps in the road. However, one Galactus-sized obstacle is the PlayStation Servers not cooperating with Marvel Rivals, and this would be detrimental to the game’s status.
Marvel Rivals Season One is going smoother than the Silver Surfer across big waves in the tropics. Season Two is already being eyed up by impatient onlookers. We’re always hungry for more and to see which heroes are making a dramatic landing in the online multiplayer title. NetEase hasn’t got much wrong with Marvel Rivals, but sometimes, things fall out of their control.
This transitions us nicely to Marvel Rivals and the state of the PlayStation Servers.
Are Marvel Rivals Servers Down Right Now on PlayStation?
Do something magical to fix everything. Credit to NetEase
As of writing, Marvel Rivals is unplayable on PlayStation right now because the PlayStation Network is down, meaning all forms of online connectivity are down.
There is nothing NetEase can do right now for PlayStation users. The PSN Servers went down on February 8, causing the PlayStation Network to go down worldwide—sending everyone and everything into a frenzy. This means all PSN services are out of commission until further notice: Online multiplayer, downloads, the Store, and much more.
The only form of communication between PlayStation and its millions-strong player base is one X update. The Ask PlayStation X page tweeted on February 8: “We are aware some users might be currently experiencing issues with PSN.”
PlayStation’s main X handle reposted this message, but that’s about it in terms of feedback and announcements!
We are aware some users might be currently experiencing issues with PSN.
For more details: status.playstation.com
We’re all still trying to figure out what’s going on and why PSN is down. If you’re a Marvel Rivals player on Xbox or PC, you should be having no such issues. NetEase’s servers are operational, meaning Rivals itself, is fine, but this is of no consolation to PlayStation players.
It’s not just Marvel Rivals being battered by the maintenance issues either. Other popular online shooters are also suffering including Fortnite, GTA, and multiple Call of Duty games.
Try and forget about the PlayStation Network woes for the time being. Kill some time and mentally fight some crime by reading Ninja’s eye-raising comments about how he thinks Overwatch is dead, thanks to Marvel Rivals. We also have a handy guide on how to get Assists in Rivals.
Have the PlayStation servers impacted your weekend? Is this a case of PlayStation needing to show accountability and even compensate all PSN users for this fracas?

Endangered Florida Panther Mom Gives Cubs Cutest Growls to Follow Her Across Flooded Creek
Endangered Florida Panther Mom Gives Cubs Cutest Growls to Follow Her Across Flooded Creek
I grew up in Florida, and we heard a lot about the severely endangered Florida Panther back then. The number of cats left in the wild during the 1970s may have been as low as twenty, but thanks to concerted conservation efforts, the population has rebounded slightly—to about two hundred individuals. However, they are still at extremely low numbers and their survival is not guaranteed.
One place you can still find a population of wild Florida Panthers is in the Big Cypress Basin east of Naples, Florida. One area has been designated the Florida Panther National Wildlife Refuge, and it is here there you can sometimes catch a glimpse of this rare and elusive animal, such as in this video of a Florida Panther and her two cubs crossing a flooded stream.
In the video, a Florida Panther named Broketail is navigating the flooded waterways of her swampy home with her latest litter of cubs. Broketail was born in 2012 and is named that for her notably crooked tail. She has successfully raised many litters in the refuge and is often seen on wildlife cameras successfully navigating the wilderness underpasses and overpasses that have been installed to help these creatures avoid the perils of Florida roads and highways. Vehicle collision is one of the major dangers for the few Florida panthers left in the wild, and refuges and safe passage systems have been instrumental in stopping their utter annihilation.

A Family Journey for Florida Panthers
In the clip, Broketail is seen approaching a deep stream, then making a huge leap across it, while her two cubs wander around, looking for an alternative route. Eventually, their mother calls to them, with allow, rumbling growl. (Make sure to turn your sound up to catch it!)
Life in the Big Cypress Swamp is filled with these kinds of explorations, as the water level, and thus the best ways through the swamp, change significantly throughout the season. Like Broketail, her cubs will need to learn the best ways to navigate not only the basin and the changing river courses in their refuge home, but also how to choose the wilderness crossing that help them avoid dangerous traffic.
The Future of the Florida Panther
The subspecies of the Florida Panther remains every bit as endangered as it ever was, but the classification system around North American Cougars has changed significantly since I was younger. What were once considered regional subspecies of cougar all over the country, from the Florida Panther in Florida to the now extinct mountain lions of Pennsylvania, now all North American Cougar species are considered variations on the same animal, like regional variations on a brown bear (Grizzly, Kodiak, etc.)
The Florida Panther has survived where so many of its sister cougars have not given a massive conservation effort. We should keep up the good work.

Is GTA 5 Down on PlayStation? GTA Online PSN Servers Explained
Is GTA 5 Down on PlayStation? GTA Online PSN Servers Explained
Grand Theft Auto 5 started as a single-player exclusive game, and then along came GTA Online. This live-service, open-world epic has been the backbone of the GTA franchise for more than a decade, and it’s where friends and foes alike congregate to share their crime-fuelled adventures.
Sadly, GTA Online is inherently tied to the wonders of the internet on PlayStation. That means if PSN goes offline, GTA 5 will be down – and that means that GTA Online will be offline too. In this guide, we’re taking a look at what to do if GTA Online stops working and answering a key question: ‘Is GTA 5 down on PlayStation?’
Let’s find out how you can check the GTA Online PSN server status.
Is GTA Down on PS5?
GTA Online is down at the time of publishing due to an ongoing global issue with the PlayStation Network (last checked 08/02/25).
On February 8, the PlayStation Network buckled, crashing worldwide and plunging tens of millions of gamers into darkness. The major outage was a show-stopping event, taking all PSN services offline in the blink of an eye.
For future reference, there are things you can do to check the PSN server status, but in most cases, it’s a matter of just waiting until the network comes back up again.
If GTA Online is down on PS5, you can bet your last dollar it’s offline on PS4, too.
Read on to check how you can figure out whether it’s a global outage or a more localised issue that’s taking GTA down on PlayStation.
How to Check Rockstar Server Status for GTA Online
Check the GTA Online servers with this status page
The best way to check the GTA server status is via the Rockstar Support service status page. This one-stop-shop will tell you if GTA is down on PlayStation – or any other platform, for that matter. It’ll let you know about Red Dead Online too, if that’s more your speed.
Otherwise, you can stay connected to Rockstar’s support function on social media.
Other platforms, like Down Detector, offer an opportunity for a quick glimpse at how many users are having issues. If you’re running to search ‘is GTA down on PlayStation’, you’ll almost certainly be met with a link to the platform.

With Barely Any Players after Two Years of Release, EA Removing Controversial Immortals of Aveum Feature Is Pointless
With Barely Any Players after Two Years of Release, EA Removing Controversial Immortals of Aveum Feature Is Pointless
Immortals of Aveum is a first-person shooter game developed by Ascendant Studios. The game was released back in August of 2023 for Windows, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. Although the title was made using the newest features of Unreal Engine 5, the game sold poorly with less than 100 players, playing the game right now.
Immortals of Aveum failed horribly when it was launched | Image Credits: Electronic Arts
Immortals of Aveum was published by Electronic Arts, the same publisher that is notorious for their use of Denuvo across several major titles. But what is Denuvo and why did they remove it? Let’s find out.
Why did Immortals of Aveum fail?
EA spent $40 million on marketing the game | Image Credits: Electronic Arts
Immortals of Aveum was a massive failure from the beginning. The magic first-person shooter was the debut game of Ascendant Studios and had failed to gain any lasting impressions on players. In a recent interview between an anonymous former employee of Ascendent Studios and IGN, he revealed how the developer studio had spent around $125 million for the whole game.
At a high level, Immortals was massively overscoped for a studio’s debut project. The development cost was around $85 million, and I think EA kicked in $40 million for marketing and distribution.
The former developer also mentioned how the game was a bad idea in the current game market and had resulted in layoffs affecting more than 50% of the company’s employees. After the game’s massive failure, EA has taken several steps to keep it relevant.
Four months after the game’s release, it received a significant price cut on Microsoft’s online store, where players could purchase the deluxe edition for just $7.99 instead of the usual $79.99 if they have an Xbox game pass. Although the $7.99 ***** is no longer available, the game remains discounted with the deluxe edition selling for $31.99.
Immortals of Aveum has continued to receive new updates, including bug fixes and new features such as HDR. Another step that EA took to sustain the interest of the players towards the game was the removal of Denuvo anti-tamper from it.
It’s too late to remove Denuvo at this point
Removal of Denuvo barely made any difference | Image Credits: Electronic Arts
Denuvo anti-tamper DRM (Digital Rights Management) is a feature in modern video games that is designed to prevent piracy of games. It makes the titles significantly harder for hackers to crack and distribute illegally. The feature is generally considered controversial because of its high system resource demands often causing performance issues, increased CPU usage, and excessive background processes that negatively impact gameplay.
EA has finally removed the Denuvo anti-tamper feature from Immortals of Aveum and it took them more than a year and a half to do it. Many players had hoped that the removal of Denuvo would give the game a performance boost. However, despite the anti-tamper feature being removed, the game had barely any effect on its performance, sales, or player count.
While the removal of Denuvo by EA is sort of a positive step for gamers, it’s like watering a dead tree. It does very little to revive the game’s relevance. Taking any step to revitalize a title nearly two years of being dead after its release is just bad judgment on EA’s part.

Egypt condemns Israeli suggestion of ************ state in Saudi Arabia
Egypt condemns Israeli suggestion of ************ state in Saudi Arabia
CAIRO (Reuters) – Egypt condemned statements by Israeli officials suggesting the establishment of a ************ state on Saudi territory as “irresponsible” on Saturday.
Egypt’s foreign ministry said in a statement the idea was a “direct infringement of Saudi sovereignty” and that the kingdom’s security was a “red line for Egypt”.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu appeared to be joking this week when he responded to an interviewer on pro-Netanyahu Channel 14 who misspoke by saying “Saudi state” instead of “************ state” before correcting himself.

“A ************ state,” Netanyahu said, correcting the interviewer.
“Unless you want the ************ state to be in Saudi Arabia, they have a lot of territory,” Netanyahu added, smiling during the interview, conducted in Washington.
The Egyptian statement did not directly refer to Netanyahu but said such remarks were “reprehensible aggression and an infringement of diplomatic norms”.
President Donald Trump suggested this week that the United States take control of Gaza from Israel and create a “Riviera of the Middle East” after resettling Palestinians elsewhere, including in Egypt and Jordan. Arab nations want to see a two-state solution with a separate ************ homeland alongside Israel.
Trump later said Riyadh was not demanding a ************ state as a condition for normalising ties with Israel. But Saudi Arabia rebuffed his statements, and said it would not establish ties with Israel without the creation of a ************ state.
Any suggestion that Palestinians leave Gaza, territory they want to form part of an independent state, has been anathema to the ************ leadership for generations and neighbouring Arab states have rejected it since the Gaza war began.
Trump’s plan has received global condemnation, with regional and global leaders saying such a move would threaten regional stability. Trump said on Friday he was in no rush to implement his plan to take over and redevelop Gaza.

8th-grader makes concerning discovery about tumor formation during school science project — here’s why experts should be paying attention
8th-grader makes concerning discovery about tumor formation during school science project — here’s why experts should be paying attention
The school science fair isn’t just about vinegar and baking soda eruptions from papier-mâché volcanoes. One 14-year-old made a remarkable — and concerning — discovery.
What’s happening?
Forbes detailed how eighth grader Anushka Sable tested her hypothesis about the impact of microplastics on the human body.
Sable thought that plastic particles in human white blood cells would alter their properties and lead to tumor-like formations. With the help of her mentor at Emory University, she began exposing microplastics to human immune cells. Sable discovered that monocytes — which help in the body’s inflammatory response — began to take up some of those plastics.
Further research involving a 3D cell culture found more tumor-like structures, suggesting microplastics in the body have the potential to cause *******.
Why is the research concerning?
According to the Association of American Medical Colleges, microplastics have been found throughout the human body, with studies detecting them in breast milk, placentas, testicles, hearts, livers, and kidneys.
This suggests that a range of organs could be at risk of ******* through the presence of microplastics.
Watch now: CEO reveals form of energy that has ‘polled across political lines’ for over a decade
Forbes noted that polystyrene, polyethylene, and polypropylene are most commonly found in human blood samples. These plastic particles could enter our bodies through the water we drink and the foods we eat. Seafood is a notable microplastic risk because of the 50 to 75 trillion pieces of plastic and microplastic found in the ocean, as the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization observed.
But it’s not all bad news. Forbes said that Sable’s efforts could prompt further study and possible treatments for the harmful chemicals found in our bodies from microplastic exposure.
What can we do about microplastic exposure?
Investing in an air purifier or water filter can help reduce microplastic exposure. Scientists are also finding ways to better remove this pollutant from drinking supplies.
Growing your own food can also make a difference, as you’ll have greater control over whether plastics come into contact with the soil.
In the ******* picture, though, we need to change our relationship with plastic. That means avoiding single-use plastic when possible, recycling any of the material we do use, and preventing trash from entering vital water sources.

Zelenskyy confirms a new Ukrainian offensive in Russia’s Kursk region
KYIV, Ukraine (AP) — Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed a new Ukrainian offensive in Russia’s Kursk region and said that North Korean troops were fighting alongside Russian forces there.
“In the areas of the Kursk operation, new assaults have taken place,” Zelenskyy said during his Friday address, adding, “Russia has once again deployed North Korean soldiers alongside its troops.”
According to Zelenskyy, a “significant number” of enemy troops were destroyed. He gave no details but said the losses were in the hundreds.

Russia’s Ministry of Defense said Saturday that it had repelled a Ukrainian counterattack in the Kursk region.
Russia said Friday its forces had captured the mining town of Toretsk in their latest breakthrough in eastern Ukraine’s Donetsk region, where Ukrainian defenses are creaking. Ukrainian officials did not confirm the report.
South Korea’s military said last month that it suspected North Korea was preparing to send additional troops to Russia after its soldiers suffered heavy casualties. North Korea has been supplying a vast amount of artillery and other conventional weapons to Russia, and last October it sent about 10,000-12,000 troops as well, according to U.S., South Korean and Ukrainian intelligence.
Meanwhile, one person was killed and 10 wounded Saturday in a Ukrainian strike on the city of Makiivka, a town in Ukraine’s partially occupied eastern Donetsk region, Moscow-installed officials said.
Russia’s Defense Ministry also said that 36 Ukrainian drones were shot down overnight into Saturday in four regions of western and southwestern Russia. No casualties were reported but Rostov regional Gov. Yuri Slyusar said 14 apartment buildings were damaged in the southwestern city of Rostov-on-Don.
Moscow sent 139 drones into Ukraine overnight into Saturday, Ukrainian officials said. According to Ukraine’s air force, 67 drones were destroyed and 71 electronically jammed.
