Elon Musk on Tuesday defended his “Department of Government Efficiency” against critics, saying the unaccountable cost-slashing task force represents the will of American voters who elected President Donald Trump.
“That’s what democracy is all about,” said Musk, who contributed more than $250 million to getting Trump elected. Musk, with one of his young sons in tow, stood alongside Trump in the Oval Office during the press event.
Musk, the world’s richest man and the leader of Tesla, SpaceX and X, also pushed back on concerns about whether his work in government creates conflicts of interest, saying he is trying to be as transparent as possible.

Chalmers rebuffs US claim Australia broke ‘verbal’ exports agreement
Chalmers rebuffs US claim Australia broke ‘verbal’ exports agreement
Jim Chalmers has rebuffed the Trump administration’s claim that Australia violated a “verbal commitment” to voluntarily limit aluminium exports.
The White House made the claim after US President Donald Trump signed an executive order slapping brutal 25 per cent tariffs on all steel and aluminium imports “without exemptions or exceptions”.
Asked on Wednesday if Australia had broken any agreement, the Treasurer said: “Not that I’m aware of.”
“I’ve obviously seen the reports out of DC,” Mr Chalmers told Seven’s Sunrise.
“This happened under a previous Coalition government.
“They may be able to provide a bit more colour and context around some of these sorts of claims.
“No doubt we’ll be able to find a way … to get to the bottom of what’s happened there.”
Mr Chalmers pointed out the negotiations Mr Trump mentioned took place “almost a decade ago”, when Malcolm Turnbull was Australia’s prime minister during Mr Trump’s first administration.
According to a White House proclamation, the “volume of US imports of primary aluminum from Australia has also surged and in 2024 was approximately 103 per cent higher than the average volume for 2015 through 2017”.
“Australia has disregarded its verbal commitment to voluntarily restrain its aluminum exports to a reasonable level,” it said.
But Mr Turnbull has rejected the claim, saying steel was the focus of negotiations at the time.

Despite the uncertainty sparked by Mr Trump’s order, Mr Chalmers said the conversation between Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and the US President on Tuesday was “very, very positive”.
“The conversation that happened yesterday was very productive, very positive,” Mr Chalmers said.
“Prime Minister Albanese made the case for our steel and aluminium exporters standing up for our national economic interest, and for *********** jobs.
“I think it’s a good thing that President Trump said he would be willing to consider that exemption.
“We obviously don’t take any outcome for granted, but I think yesterday’s conversation between the two leaders was a positive step.”

Stunning 5th-Century BC Gold Bracelet Among 1,000 Treasures Found in Kazakhstan
Stunning 5th-Century BC Gold Bracelet Among 1,000 Treasures Found in Kazakhstan

Archaeologists in Kazakhstan have unearthed a stunning 370-gram gold bracelet from the 5th century B.C., adorned with intricate depictions of mountain leopards. The discovery, made at the Karabau-2 burial mound in the Atyrau region, is among a trove of Sarmatian artifacts that shed new light on this ancient nomadic civilization.
The bracelet, a masterpiece of ancient craftsmanship, was found alongside gold jewelry, weapons, ceramic vessels, and human remains.
Archaeologists believe the burial mound, measuring 70 meters in diameter and three meters in height, belonged to high-ranking Sarmatians, with some tombs identified as “royal tombs” due to the presence of multiple individuals and richly decorated grave goods.
Remarkable discoveries
In addition to the gold bracelet, researchers uncovered silver pictograms depicting saiga antelopes and wolves, iron and bronze weapons, and gold appliqués for clothing.
A particularly rare find included two touchstones with golden handles, believed to have been used by Sarmatian gold traders to verify the purity of gold, a technique still in use today. Another exceptional discovery was a set of two well-preserved wooden bowls, now undergoing restoration.

In total, around 1,000 artifacts were unearthed, including 100 gold ornaments, many featuring animal motifs such as wild boars, tigers, and antelopes. These findings provide a deeper understanding of Sarmatian artistic traditions and burial practices.
Reevaluating the Sarmatian Empire
For years, scholars considered the Atyrau region to be on the periphery of the Sarmatian Empire. However, the latest discoveries suggest that the Caspian Lowland, the Zhaiyk River, and areas near the Zhem River may have been central to this ancient civilization.
Marat Kasenov, head of the archaeological team said that the number and quality of artifacts suggest that this region was not just a remote outpost but a key center of Sarmatian culture. These burial sites provide a deeper understanding of their social structure, traditions, and daily life.
Future research and expanding excavations
The excavation, conducted between 2023 and 2024, involved 20 workers, five museum staff members, and anthropologists from Astana and Almaty. Researchers plan to expand their studies with experts in anthropology, geography, and art restoration.
Nearby burial mounds, including Karakuduk-1 and Karakuduk-2, have also yielded significant finds, including silver pictograms, weapons, and jewelry.
Experts estimate that around 500 Sarmatian burial mounds exist in the Atyrau region, many of which remain unexplored.

Some artifacts, including the gold bracelet and other treasures, were displayed at “The Gold of the Sarmatians” exhibition, attracting regional officials, historians, and cultural experts. The event highlighted the importance of these discoveries and reinforced Kazakhstan’s rich archaeological heritage.
As research continues, archaeologists hope to uncover more about the Sarmatians’ influence on the broader Eurasian steppe. The Karabau-2 site remains a vital link to the past, offering an extraordinary glimpse into the craftsmanship and traditions of an ancient civilization.

Major airlines urge Trump administration to abandon passenger compensation review
Major airlines urge Trump administration to abandon passenger compensation review
By David Shepardson
WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Major U.S. airlines on Tuesday asked the U.S. Transportation Department to abandon a review launched by the Biden administration over whether carriers should be required to pay passengers compensation over flight disruptions.
Airlines for America, a trade group representing American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, United Airlines, and others, urged the Trump administration to end the review launched in December to take comments on whether airlines in the United States should provide cash to compensate for carrier-caused disruptions like they are required to do in the European Union and Canada.
“Airlines do not need further incentive to provide quality service,” the group wrote, arguing that USDOT lacks legal authority and that the requirement would drastically boost airlines’ costs and hike ticket prices.
The International Air Transport Association representing airlines worldwide separately criticized the idea saying required compensation programs “have become wealth transfer tools that have cost airlines billions of dollars without any meaningful reduction in flight disruptions.”
Spirit Airlines said the idea is so extreme “it might encourage carriers to re-evaluate when they proceed with flights that should have been further delayed or canceled when potential safety related concerns exist.”
USDOT in December sought comment on whether airlines should be required to pay $200-$300 for domestic delays of at least three hours, $375-$525 for six-hour delays, and $750-$775 for nine-hour delays.
Then-Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg said in December that compensation rules for delays “would change the economic incentive in a way that motivates airlines to do more.”
In May 2023, President Joe Biden said his administration would within months write rules requiring airlines to compensate passengers for disrupted flights.
Airlines must refund passengers for canceled flights, but are not required to compensate customers for delays.
Major carriers have committed to paying for meals, hotel stays and other expenses when they cause significant flight disruptions.
Last month, a U.S. court blocked the Biden administration’s 2024 rule requiring upfront disclosure of airline service fees, saying USDOT had not complied with procedural rules.

Google I/O 2025 kicks off on May 20
Google I/O 2025 kicks off on May 20
Google has set the date for its next I/O developer conference. This year, the annual event will take place over two days starting on May 20, the company announced on Tuesday. As in previous years, the conference will feature an in-person component at the Shoreline Amphitheatre right on the company’s doorstep in Mountain View, California.
“We’ll start day one with keynotes, followed by breakout sessions, workshops, demos, networking opportunities and more continuing on day two,” Google said. In a separate email the company sent to Engadget, it promised to share updates on Gemini and Android, alongside new innovations related to web and cloud development. Last year’s conference saw Google spend a lot of time talking about AI, including initiatives like Project Astra, and it’s probably a safe bet to say I/O 2025 will be similar in that regard.
Notably, this year I/O will overlap with Microsoft Build, which is set to run from May 19 to 22. Like I/O, Build is expected to include a major focus on AI.

3 new reasons to be concerned about Magnificent 7 stocks
3 new reasons to be concerned about Magnificent 7 stocks
With the often-hot Magnificent Seven trade on the skids less than two months into the year, it may be time to exit stage left before the selling picks up.
“Over the last several years we have maintained the view, that it was prudent for long-only US equity managers to be at least market-weight the Mag 7. Today, our views have evolved to the point where we are changing our mind and believe lowering exposure is prudent,” Trivariate Research founder and CEO Adam Parker said in a new note Tuesday.
The Magnificent Seven trade of Meta (META), Amazon (AMZN), Google (GOOG), Apple (AAPL), Nvidia (NVDA), Microsoft (MSFT), and Tesla (TSLA) has underwhelmed of late. Only one of the big-cap tech components — Meta — has posted double-digit gains out of the box, more in line with the sector’s usual strong performance.
Amazon is the only other Magnificent Seven component to be up on the year to the tune of 5.2%, slightly ahead of the 3.5% increase for the S&P 500 (^GSPC). Alphabet, Apple, Nvidia, Microsoft, and Tesla are all down year to date, with an average drop of 3% based on Yahoo Finance’s calculations. Tesla is the worst performer, off by 17% this year.
Reasons for the sell-off range from weakening sales (Tesla) to rising fears tech companies are spending too much to build AI infrastructure (the rest of the Magnificent Seven).
Veteran markets expert Parker thinks now is a good time for investors to reduce exposure for three reasons.
For one, the Street is unlikely to stop scrutinizing how much is being spent on capex for AI in 2025 and 2026.
Meta, Microsoft, Amazon, and Alphabet are slated to spend a cumulative $325 billion in capital expenditures and investments this year, Yahoo Finance’s Laura Bratton reports. This would mark a 46% increase year over year for the four tech stalwarts.
Amazon alone sees $104 billion in capital expenditures this year, well above prior analyst forecasts of $80 billion to $85 billion.
The stocks have tended to react negatively to these bold spending commitments, points out Parker.
“There is no question either way that the high capital spending will continue to come under increasing scrutiny until investors can better understand the return on today’s massive investments,” says Parker.
Valuation on Magnificent Seven stocks — despite their sell-off — also remains a concern for Parker.
Parker’s research shows the relative price to forward earnings multiple of the Magnificent Seven versus the rest of the S&P 500 is at a 42% premium. That’s toward the upper range of its 25-year average.
Story Continues
Warns Parker, “The high beta and increasingly high capital intensity combined with the elevated valuation of the Magnificent 7 is, in our judgment, an increasing cause for concern.”
Podcast: Buy, sell, or hold Mag 7 darling Nvidia?
And lastly, the stocks just look too over-owned by investors.
“We are apprehensive of the elevated beta-adjusted exposure of the Mag 7 vs. the top 500 US equities excluding the Mag-7. Today, the aggregate exposure of the Mag 7 is 31.3%, or almost a third of the market cap opportunity is Mag-7. However, on a beta-adjusted basis the current exposure of the Mag-7 is 44.7%. This means that a portfolio manager who owns in market-weight all the Magnificent 7 stocks has nearly half their fund’s beta-adjusted exposure in these stocks! This remains near highs of the last 25 years,” Parker said.
One bonus reason Yahoo Finance found when studying Parker’s research: The stocks have an outsized exposure to all-out Wall Street bullishness.
Only 4.8% of the 504 analyst recommendations on the Magnificent Seven are a Sell, Parker’s team found.
With the investment thesis on the Magnificent Seven changing, the uber-bullishness could prove to be misaligned with reality.

Where JPMorgan sees the market going under different CPI scenarios
Where JPMorgan sees the market going under different CPI scenarios
Wall Street is looking toward Wednesday’s consumer price index report for insights on the economy. With inflation concerns at top of mind for investors, the CPI report could jolt the market either higher or lower. The data is scheduled for release at 8:30 a.m. Dow Jones economists expect the headline inflation rate to have risen 0.3% month over month in January and 2.9% from the prior year. Core inflation, which excludes the more volatile food and energy prices, is forecast to have increased 0.3% from the previous month and 3.1% year over year. If the core CPI print comes in line with estimates, that would mark the lowest levels since April 2021. The report comes amid trader fears that President Donald Trump’s escalation of tariffs on major trading partners including Mexico, Canada and China, will put upward pressure on inflation. With this in mind, JPMorgan traders outlined where they see the S & P 500 moving after the release. Here are the scenarios based on various month-over-month core CPI readings: Up 0.4% or more (5% chance): The S & P 500 would fall between 1.5% and 2% in this case, according to JPMorgan. A jump in inflation this large would likely be powered by a surge in shelter prices, as well as certain deflationary core goods such as medical costs and alcohol becoming inflationary. Treasury yields would also “react violently” as this inflationary scenario would be perceived to lead to a rate hike at the Federal Reserve’s next meeting, per JPMorgan. Between a 0.33% and 0.39% increase (25% chance): JPMorgan sees the broad market index shedding 0.75% to 1.5%. This outcome wouldn’t have as big of an effect on the bond market, but would likely jolt equities to the downside, said JPMorgan. “This print is unlikely to fully eliminate all cut expectations for FY25, but likely pushed implied probabilities to be a coin flip as to whether we get one cut in FY25,” the bank added. A gain between 0.27% and 0.33% (40% chance): This baseline scenario would keep Treasury yields range-bound, according to the traders. They also see the S & P 500 ranging from a 0.25% loss to a 1% gain under this outcome. “The upper range is not quite Goldilocks but given the resilience of the market YTD stocks likely push higher led by [small-cap stocks].” An increase between 0.21% and 0.27% (25% chance): JPMorgan traders believe this CPI reading would be “Goldilocks” for the market. The S & P 500 would rise between 1% and 1.5%, according to their estimates. A gain of 0.2% or less (5% chance): A lower-than-expected core CPI reading would boost the S & P 500 between 1.25% and 1.75%, per JPMorgan. The dollar would also weaken on this report, likely boosting emerging markets, the traders said.

By defeating enemies, Temporal Unlimiter means Vex Mythoclast will generate stacks of Overcharge. Swap your firing mode when this is full to deliver powerful single-fire shots similar to linear fusion rifles.
If you’re struggling to get Vex Mythoclast to drop from the Atheon encounter, completing Vault of Glass raid challenges and Triumphs will increase its drop rate. The Triumphs and challenges along with their completion criteria are:
Wait For It…: During the confluxes encounter, only defeat Wyverns while they’re sacrificing.
The Only Oracle For You: Complete the Oracle encounter without destroying the same Oracle more than once.
Out Of Its Way: Defeat the Templar without allowing it to teleport.
Strangers In Time: During the Gatekeeper encounter, defeat the Wyvern and Praetorian Minotaur enemies within 3 seconds of each other.
Ensemble’s Refrain: During the Atheon encounter, destroy no more than one Oracle per Oracle wave.
Break No Plates: Complete the Waking Ruins encounter while not losing a single sync plate to the Vex.
Dragon’s Den: Complete the confluxes encounter while defeating Wyverns with only Super damage.
Take Cover: Don’t defeat any Hobgoblins during the Oracles encounter.
Tempered Teleport: Complete the Templar encounter while never blocking the Templar’s teleport.
Too Fast, Two Gorgons: Complete the Gorgons’ Labyrinth encounter while defeating two or more Gorgons within three seconds of each other.
Rabid Relic: Complete the Gatekeepers encounter while only using Relic Super damage to defeat Praetorians.
Eyes On Atheon: Defeat Atheon without destroying any Supplicants.
Vex Mythoclast Catalyst
To get the Vex Mythoclast Catalyst you’ll need to complete a series of five puzzles that span the entirety of the Vault of Glass raid. You’ll find five plates within the raid. Someone with Vex Mythoclast equipped needs to stand on the plate to spawn Oracles around it. Shoot them in the order they appear. They are too far away for this to be easily done solo, and you’ll want the help of fellow Guardians for efficiency. The first plate is in the opening arena, on the right inside a cave. The second plate is before the secret chest area ahead of the Templar encounter. The third plate is after the Templar but before the Gorgons. The fourth plate is between the Gorgons and the Gatekeeper: jump to the right and follow the wall line. The fifth plate is in the same area, but located on a platform across from the entrance to the Gatekeeper.
The Vex Mythoclast catalyst means that when it’s in full auto mode, final blows grant bonus damage, accuracy, and stability for a short duration.
Now that you’re up to speed with the loot table and Vault of Glass craftable weapons, why not check out all of the new Destiny 2 Heresy weapons that have been added to the game?

Warren Gatland: From world’s best to Wales’ worst
Warren Gatland: From world’s best to Wales’ worst
Gatland has always believed he can bring success when he spends time with players, which World Cup preparation allows.
After naming a 54-man training squad, he had to cope with the international retirements of legends Alun Wyn Jones and Justin Tipuric, while Owens was unavailable because of injury.
Gatland’s man-management skills were under scrutiny as prop Rhys Carre was brutally released from the squad for “failing to meet individual performance targets”.
Intense training camps in Switzerland and Turkey appeared to have worked as Wales stormed to World Cup pool success, with victories against Fiji, Portugal, Australia and Georgia.
The 40-6 hammering of Eddie Jones’ Wallabies side in Lyon proved the undoubted highlight of Gatland’s second spell in charge.
Wales suffered quarter-final defeat against Argentina in Marseille. It was a match Gatland felt they should have won, but pride had been restored to Welsh rugby.
Here is when history could have been different. With a new four-year World Cup cycle starting, Gatland and the WRU could have said their farewells after he had completed a short-term job.
WRU executive director of rugby Nigel Walker stated before the tournament in France he was backing Gatland to lead Wales to the 2027 World Cup, labelling him “one of the best coaches in the world”.
So Gatland stayed on, but some of his finest players did not. Biggar and Leigh Halfpenny retired from international rugby, Tomas Francis left Wales for a new life in France, Owens hung up his boots and George North quit the Test arena after the 2024 Six Nations.
Gatland was left with an inexperienced squad and had to use young players, a situation that saw Wales slump to a first Six Nations wooden spoon in 21 years.
Gatland says he offered to resign in the changing room following the defeat by Italy in March 2024 which condemned Wales to a clean sweep of Six Nations losses, but the offer was turned down by WRU chief executive Abi Tierney.
He also made headlines again when he stated Welsh rugby sometimes felt like a “sinking ship”.

EA Previously Had The “Worst CEO” In Gaming, Ex-Activision Boss Says
EA Previously Had The “Worst CEO” In Gaming, Ex-Activision Boss Says
In 2013, John Riccitiello stepped down as EA’s CEO following a tumultuous six-year run on top of the company. During Riccitiello’s reign, Activision’s Call of Duty franchise overtook Battlefield in terms of popularity, and it didn’t help when Riccitiello joked that Battlefield players should be charged to reload. Now, ex-Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick has shared his belief that Riccitiello was the worst CEO in the video game industry.
During a joint appearance on Grit with former EA Chief Creative Officer Bing Gordon, Kotick revealed that Activision was afraid that Gordon would assume control of EA and prove to be a good leader for the company.
“I’m not saying this because [Gordon is] sitting here,” said Kotick. “Our fear was always that Bing was going to run [EA]. And we would have paid for Riccitiello to stay a CEO forever… like we thought he was the worst CEO in video games.” Gordon also noted that Riccitiello may have hastened his departure from EA as well.
Regardless of his feelings about Riccitiello, Kotick said that there were multiple attempts in the past to bring EA and Activision together as a single company.
“[EA] tried to buy us a bunch of times. We had merger conversations,” recalled Kotick. Later in the podcast, Kotick admitted that Activision thought that EA’s “business [was] in a lot of ways was better than ours,” before Gordon pointed out that Blizzard’s business is even better than EA’s.
During that same interview, Gordon recalled that EA passed on the chance to buy Guitar Hero, Call of Duty, and Blizzard before Activision ultimately swept up all three. Kotick also called the Warcraft film one of the worst movies he’s ever seen and explained why it was a mistake for Blizzard to focus so much attention on that project.

Russia offers India its most advanced Su-57 stealth fighter jet
Russia offers India its most advanced Su-57 stealth fighter jet
By Shivam Patel and Abhijith Ganapavaram
BENGALURU, India (Reuters) – Russia has offered to make its fifth-generation stealth fighter jet Sukhoi Su-57 in India for the Indian Air Force, a Russian and an Indian official said on Tuesday, as Moscow looks to boost defence ties with New Delhi.
Russia has for decades been the main weapons supplier to India, the world’s biggest arms importer, and its fighter jets are part of India’s military fleet. But Moscow’s ability in recent years to export has been hobbled by the war in Ukraine, making New Delhi look westward.

See for yourself — The Yodel is the go-to source for daily news, entertainment and feel-good stories.
A spokesperson for Russian state arms exporter Rosoboronexport told reporters the fighter jet could go into production as early as this year if the Indian government accepts its offer.
India’s defence ministry did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
A Russian industry source and an Indian official said an informal offer had been made by Russia in talks with officials of the Indian government and state-owned planemaker Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd.
The move comes as the Indian Air Force is keen to shore up its fighter squadrons, which have fallen to 31 from a target of 42, at a time when rival China is expanding its own air force.
Making the aircraft in India, with a full transfer of technology, will ensure that production and maintenance will not be affected by Western sanctions on Russia, the Rosoboronexport spokesperson told reporters on the sidelines of the Aero India aerospace exhibition in the southern city of Bengaluru. He declined to share his name.
He said the jet could be produced with enhancements to the Indian production line of the Sukhoi Su-30 aircraft, 260 of which are in the Indian Air Force’s fleet.
Both the Su-57 and rival Lockheed Martin’s F-35 Lightning II, a fifth generation stealth fighter jet of the U.S., were on display at the Aero India exhibition.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government has been stressing the need to make India a global manufacturing hub and boost domestic defence production in order to achieve self reliance.
Despite being touted as a Russian fifth-generation fighter aircraft to rival its U.S. equivalent, the Su-57 was plagued by development delays and a ****** in 2019. According to its manufacturer, serial production of the aircraft began in 2022.
Last year, Russia flew the SU-57, to Zhuhai in China for its first air show abroad, in an apparent message to the West about China-Russia cooperation.

Asus Charger Dock For ROG Ally, Steam Deck, And More Handhelds Is Only $30 This Week
Asus Charger Dock For ROG Ally, Steam Deck, And More Handhelds Is Only $30 This Week
Best Buy has brought back one of the most popular gaming accessory deals we saw last summer. The Asus ROG 65W Charger Dock is on ***** for only $30. Normally $65, the official Asus Charger Dock was designed with the ROG Ally family of PC handhelds in mind. That said, you can use this portable docking station with other handhelds, including Steam Deck and Nintendo Switch–just make sure you update the accessory to its latest firmware.
$30 (was $65)
It doubles as both a power brick and a docking station thanks to its built-in HDMI 2.0 port and USB 2.0 port. It connects to your handheld via USB-C to deliver power. As long as the device you want to use supports external displays and doesn’t draw more than 65W of power, you should be able to use it with the ROG Charger Dock.
It supports fast-charging via USB-C and is capable of displaying in 1080p with a 120Hz refresh rate or 4K at 60Hz. You can also use the USB-A port to charge a separate device, which could save you a spot in your power brick. Or you can use the USB-A port for accessories, such as dongles for keyboards, mice, or controllers.
The compact design makes it ideal for travel, so if you bring your ROG Ally or Steam Deck with you on trips, this can substitute for a traditional dock–though you may want to pair it with a budget-friendly portable stand, like this great one from JSAUX.
Keep in mind that the ROG 65W Charger Dock deal has sold out quickly in the past, and it’s very possible the same will happen with this deal before the end of the week.
If you’re looking for a more traditional docking station with additional ports, Amazon has this highly rated JSAUX 5-in-1 Docking Station on ***** for only $24 (was $30). Alternatively, you can get an extra USB port with the JSAUX 6-in-1 Docking Station for $30 (was $40). If you regularly use your Steam Deck or ROG Ally in docked mode, you may want to consider a docking station with a built-in M.2 SSD slot to increase your storage space when docked. You can save $10 on JSAUX’s $90 M.2 Docking Station by clicking the coupon box.
It’s also worth noting that Razer recently released a handheld docking station with Chroma RGB for $80. While you’re paying more for the name brand, Razer’s new docking station does look quite nice and performs well.

Gaza Truce Imperiled as Netanyahu and ****** Send Dueling Warnings
Gaza Truce Imperiled as Netanyahu and ****** Send Dueling Warnings
The future of the cease-fire in Gaza and the territory’s long-term fate hung in the balance on Tuesday as Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of Israel warned ****** that if the scheduled release of hostages did not take place on Saturday, the truce would end and Israeli troops would resume “intense fighting.”
Mr. Netanyahu’s warning came after ****** said on Monday it would indefinitely postpone the next round of hostage releases, which he said amounted to a “decision to violate the agreement.”
His statement echoed President Trump’s demand a day earlier that all remaining hostages must be freed by 12 o’clock on Saturday or “all hell is going to break out.” But the prime minister did not say that all captives still in Gaza had to be freed; under the terms of the cease-fire, only three were supposed to be let go on Saturday.
Mr. Netanyahu also reiterated an order he issued on Monday night to reinforce troops in and around Gaza, but he did not say they were planning to recapture territory from which Israel had recently withdrawn.
“This operation is currently underway,” he said. “It will be completed as soon as possible.”
Analysts said it was possible that Israel and ****** would reach a compromise before Saturday on this weekend’s scheduled round of hostage releases. Another hurdle looms in March, when the cease-fire is set to elapse unless ****** and Israel negotiate an extension.
“The crisis is a prelude for a much ******* crisis that is coming in early March,” said Ibrahim Dalalsha, the director of the Horizon Center, a political research group in the West Bank of Ramallah.
Mr. Trump repeated his ultimatum on freeing the remaining hostages while meeting on Tuesday with King Abdullah II of Jordan at the White House. “They either have them out by Saturday at 12 p.m. or all bets are off,” the president said.
Mr. Trump’s pronouncements this week — including his statements that the United States will take over the devastated territory and that its ************ residents have no rights to return — have infuriated ******, flummoxed world leaders and amplified the sense of chaos surrounding the cease-fire negotiations.
Mr. Trump has said the United States will rebuild Gaza into the “Riviera of the Middle East,” and on Monday he threatened to withdraw financial support for Egypt and Jordan unless they take in all the Palestinians who would be displaced by that effort.
The president has said he would “make a deal” with Jordan and Egypt to take in the Palestinians — a move that would destabilize both countries and that has been flatly rejected by their leaders. During his meeting with King Abdullah on Tuesday, Mr. Trump insisted that the United States had the authority to “take” Gaza and that other countries in the region would absorb the Palestinians who live there.
“We will have Gaza,” he said. “It’s a war-torn area. We’re going to take it.”
Jordan’s Parliament last week introduced a bill that would ban the resettlement of Palestinians in the country. But King Abdullah is trying to protect the more than $1.5 billion in foreign aid his country receives from the United States. He said in the meeting that Jordan was willing to take in 2,000 ************ children with ******* or otherwise very ill “right away.” Mr. Trump called the offer “a beautiful gesture.”
******, in a statement on Tuesday, called Mr. Trump’s broader proposal of removing Gazans “ethnic cleansing.” The group added, “The plan to deport our people from Gaza will not succeed, and they will be faced with a unified ************, Arab and Islamic position that rejects all displacement plans.”
The first phase of the cease-fire deal was struck last month between Israel and ******, and it was set to expire on March 2. Originally, three Israelis were to be freed this week in the latest hostage-for-prisoner exchange as required under the agreement. Most of the exchanges have taken place on Saturdays.
So far, 16 of 33 Israeli hostages who were set to be released in the first phase of this cease-fire have been freed. About 60 other hostages, some of whom are believed to be dead, were to be released later this spring under a second phase of the deal.
In a video posted after a four-hour meeting with his security cabinet, Mr. Netanyahu said on Tuesday that he and his top advisers had been shocked by the emaciated appearances of three Israeli men who were freed last Saturday.
“The decision I passed in the cabinet, unanimously, is this: If ****** does not return our hostages by Saturday noon, the cease-fire will end, and the I.D.F. will resume intense fighting until ****** is decisively defeated,” Mr. Netanyahu said in the video, referring to the Israel Defense Forces.
In its threat on Monday to delay the next round of hostages to be released, ****** accused Israel of violating parts of the cease-fire agreement, including by slowing sufficient humanitarian aid in and around Gaza. Israel has denied the claim.
****** led the attack on Israel on Oct. 7, 2023, that started the war, killed about 1,200 people and led to the abduction of 250 others to Gaza. Israel retaliated by bombarding the territory and displacing millions of Palestinians. At least 48,000 Gazans have been killed during the fighting, according to local health officials, who do not distinguish between combatants and civilians. Millions of Palestinians are returning to neighborhoods in ruins.
The current standoff stems in part from ******’s accusation that Israel has not upheld its promises for the first phase of the cease-fire. Israel was required to send hundreds of thousands of tents into Gaza, a promise that ****** says Israel has not kept.
Three Israeli officials and two mediators, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss a sensitive matter, said that ******’s claims were accurate. But COGAT, the Israeli military unit that oversees aid deliveries, said in a written response that ******’s accusations were “completely false.”
It added, “Hundreds of thousands of tents have entered Gaza since the beginning of the agreement, as well as fuel, generators and everything Israel pledged.”
Regardless, officials and commentators say the dispute can be resolved relatively easily if Israel allows more aid to Gaza. More serious, they say, is the widespread perception that Mr. Netanyahu is undermining the negotiations over an extended truce. Those talks were to begin early last week. Instead, Mr. Netanyahu delayed sending a team to Qatar, which is mediating talks, until early this week.
That delegation consisted of three officials who have not previously led Israel’s negotiating effort, according to five Israeli officials and an official from one of the mediating countries. And their mandate was only to listen, not to negotiate.
That created the perception that Mr. Netanyahu was playing for time rather than trying to extend the truce. All the officials spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss the private talks more freely.
Omer Dostri, a spokesman for the Israeli prime minister, said that Mr. Netanyahu was “working tirelessly to return all hostages held by the ****** terrorist organization.” Mr. Dostri added that Israel would send negotiators to discuss the deal’s extension after Israel’s position had been set by the cabinet.
Mr. Netanyahu has often said that ****** will not remain in power after the war. Key members of his governing coalition have expressed a wish to resume the war to oust ******, despite calls from much of the Israeli public and relatives of the captives for an extension of the truce to free the remaining hostages, even if it leaves the militant group in power.
A ****** official, Mahmoud Mardawi, said that the group’s warning on Monday had been in response only to the disagreements over humanitarian aid. But analysts said that it was also an attempt to force Mr. Netanyahu to negotiate earnestly and was probably a reaction to Mr. Trump’s statements about depopulating Gaza.
“There’s an anger among ****** about the demands of both Netanyahu and Trump that ****** will be kicked out of Gaza,” said Michael Milshtein, an Israeli analyst of ************ affairs.
“The announcement yesterday was a kind of a signal that, if you continue demanding this, there will be several dramatic crises,” he added.
Reporting was contributed by Gabby Sobelman, Natan Odenheimer, Ephrat Livni, Aaron Boxerman and Zolan Kanno-Youngs.

Buy these three stocks in the face of earnings growth, F.L.Putnam strategist says
Buy these three stocks in the face of earnings growth, F.L.Putnam strategist says
Aecom is one of a few names that could see gains as a result of earnings, and that could provide an opportunity for investors as the market possibly broadens out, according to Ellen Hazen, chief market strategist at F.L.Putnam Investment Management. Hazen appeared on CNBC’s ” Power Lunch ” Tuesday to offer her take on where some of the biggest trending stocks could be going from here. Below are her thoughts on the three names she thinks traders should keep an eye on. Aecom While the future of the Inflation Reduction Act and the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act is uncertain under President Donald Trump, Hazen still believes the country’s infrastructure needs investment, which could benefit infrastructure consulting firm Aecom. The strategist said earnings will serve as a tailwind for the stock, which has been rather flat year to date. Over the past 12 months, the stock rose nearly 19%. ACM 1Y mountain Aecom stock over the past year. “You’re going to see 15% to 20% earnings growth [and] 15% to 20% revenue growth, so very, very strong growth,” she said. “Estimates keep going up.” Not only that, Hazen believes the market hasn’t taken into account the significance of the company’s business model becoming “less capital intensive than it used to be.” And its multiple is same as its been for the last five years, despite this shift, she said. The stock currently trades at around 20 times forward earnings, which is a slight discount relative to the S & P 500 . It’s also fallen nearly 1% in 2025. Stryker Unlike Aecom, shares of Stryker have outperformed the broader market this year, rising more than 8% year to date. The medical technology company also gained more than 14% over the past 12 months. Notably, its forward price-to-earnings ratio stands at about 29. Though “not cheap,” the strategist believes it is still “high quality.” “Look, you’re paying for quality,” the strategist saidd. “They’re gaining market share, and you have this demographic tailwind that’s going to continue to benefit the company in terms of top line growth as we go forward.” On top of the demographic tailwind, Hazen anticipates there being an earnings tailwind for the name, as she thinks gross margins can return to pre-Covid levels. Evercore Evercore is another example where earnings estimates are being revised upward, Hazen noted. But the investment bank could see more upside from an increase in mergers and acquisitions activity. “If you look at mergers and acquisitions volumes, they’re healthy, they’re okay, but they’re down something like 30% from 2001 levels,” the strategist also said. “So, we think there’s a long way to go up.” “We think there’s scope for rebound as companies face the threats of tariffs, of trying to find enough labor, of immigration and of artificial intelligence and a lot of other things,” Hazen continued. “They are going to continue to do more mergers and acquisitions.” Evercore shares have fallen more than 4% this year but have risen nearly 49% over the past 12 months. The stock also has a forward P/E ratio of about 19. EVR 1Y mountain Evercore stock over the past year.

Team Secret Siege Player Dropped and Mocked by Team CEO
Team Secret Siege Player Dropped and Mocked by Team CEO
The competitive Rainbow Six Siege community has come to the support of a Team Secret player after the CEO of his team released him and criticized him for showing emotion after a loss. Numerous players and personalities are now calling out the CEO for their behavior.
Team Secret CEO’s Actions Uncover the Need to Talk About Mental Health
After being released by Team Secret following a group stage elimination at The Six Invitational, *********** player Jake “Virtue” Grannan posted on X that the move caught him by surprise. “Didn’t see this coming at all, after all the energy and work that I’ve been putting in,” he wrote. “One bad tournament has now lead me to be LFT [looking for team].”
However, a day later, Virtue and almost the entire Siege community were stunned by a reply to this post made by Secret CEO John Yao. Yao shared a screenshot of the team after they were eliminated, showing Virtue facing away from the group. The caption reads: “I am also very surprised.”
This reply, which appears to disparage Virtue, has drawn the ire of several members of the Siege community. Virtue confirmed that he was very emotional, that he was “almost crying,” and that he “couldn’t look at anyone” after a bad series. Some of the game’s biggest stars came to Virtue’s defense, including M80’s Leonardo “Kyno” Figueiredo and DarkZero’s Jason “Beaulo” Doty. The replies and quote reposts are littered with players, casters, coaches, and others criticizing Yao and defending Virtue.
While many are clearly upset about Yao’s comments, they have at least opened the door for a greater conversation about men’s mental health. It’s okay to cry, and it’s okay to cry in front of others.
Did the Team Secret CEO cross the line? Should mental health become a ******* talking point in esports? Let us know down below and on the Insider Gaming forum.
