A Southern California teacher was arrested for the alleged ******* abuse of a young student.
Riverside Police identified the suspect as Hector Edward Zaldivar, 53, of Ontario.
On Feb. 11, police began investigating after the victim, a female juvenile, told police about the alleged sex abuse.
The crimes reportedly occurred in June 2022 during summer school at Terrace Elementary School in Riverside. The suspect was a 4th-grade teacher at the time, authorities said.
On Feb. 12, Zalvidar was arrested in connection with the alleged crimes. He is currently employed with the Alvord Unified School District and detectives believe there may be additional victims who have yet to come forward.
District officials confirmed that Zalvidar was placed on administrative leave as the investigation continued.
Hector Edward Zaldivar, 53, of Ontario, is seen in a booking photo from the Riverside Police Department.

MAGA farmers and teachers are the latest groups to regret voting for Trump
MAGA farmers and teachers are the latest groups to regret voting for Trump
While diehard MAGA supporters seem to praise every decision President Donald Trump makes, there are more and more Republicans who are regretting their votes.
First, people found out they might not be invited home for the holidays after voting for Trump, then MAGA supporters discovered that Trump’s mass deportation plans could separate them from their families or hurt their business’ bottom line, next they learned that a vote for Trump in November might mean losing your food stamps today.
Now it’s MAGA farmers and teachers who are regretting casting their ballot for Trump as he strips federal funding and shuts down aid programs.
x.com
Farmers are already dealing with the effects of climate change and avian flu outbreaks, but the Trump administration’s recent efforts to dismantle the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) — spearheaded by Elon Musk — means that people who owned farms are already losing money.
While Trump and Musk claim they ordered a 90-day freeze on USAID’s foreign aid spending to rein in wasteful spending, in actuality they’re hurting American farmers and other business owners who sell goods and services to USAID.
x.com
American Farmers supply around 41% of the food aid that USAID and the U.S. Department of Agriculture send around the world, which amounted to $2.1 billion in food aid from American farms in 2020, the Washington Post reports.
But with Trump shutting down the program $340 million in purchases and shipments of U.S. food aid has been paused, leaving farmers unsure of what the future holds.
Other farmers who voted for Trump are angry about the president’s tariff plans that could lead to retaliation from China that could impact soybean and corn farmers’ ability to sell their crops — something that happened during the first Trump administration.

Skylar Holden, a self-proclaimed Trump supporter and a cattle rancher in Missouri, was depending on a $240,000 cost-sharing contract with the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) that he signed so he could add fencing and improve his ranch’s water system. But Skylar recently took to TikTok to report that he was set to lose tens of thousands of dollars when the Trump administration froze federal funding.
“I’ve already done a bunch of the work, already paid for the material and the labor, so I’m out all that cost. We are possibly going to lose our farm if NRCS doesn’t hold up their contract with us,” Holden said in one video.

One of the myriad executive orders Trump has signed since taking office targeted the Inflation Reduction Act, a Biden-era law that included money for farmers to aid in conservation efforts and relief for distressed borrowers.
Trump has also been targeting schools, announcing that he has plans to dismantle the Department of Education. Teachers across the country are terrified about his plans and what federal budget cuts and spending freezes could mean for the future of their schools.

Even Trump-supporting educators are starting to feel regret about supporting the politician making their jobs harder. Jennifer Blankenship, Trump voter and principal of Bell Central School Center in Kentucky, admitted that Trump’s plan will hurt her school.a

“I voted for President Trump to make America first again and to improve our lives,” she told a reporter for CNN, but when asked about Trump’s policies, she laid bare the ways it would impact kids.
“I don’t that’s what the voters want,” she said. “If we have federal cuts, then that’s going to mean ******* classroom sizes. I would lose teachers, first and foremost. It’s devastating.”

Deputy archivist of the U.S. to retire following Trump firing of National Archives chief
Deputy archivist of the U.S. to retire following Trump firing of National Archives chief
One week after President Trump fired the head of the National Archives and Records Administration, the second-in-command, the deputy archivist, has informed colleagues of his intent to retire, a source familiar with the situation confirmed to CBS News Friday.
William “Jay” Bosanko served as chief operating officer for the National Archives when the FBI served a search warrant on Mar-a-Lago in August 2022 in order to seize boxes of Trump records, including classified material, that the agency said had not been properly transferred to the Archives at the conclusion of Mr. Trump’s first term.
Mr. Trump was federally indicted in the case in June 2023, but following a long legal saga, the charges were formally dismissed earlier this week. Mr. Trump has been publicly critical of the National Archives since the case was brought.
Bosanko also held the same position when it was revealed in January 2023 that classified documents were found at the Delaware home of then-President Joe Biden, along with at the Penn Biden Center. No criminal charges were brought in that case.
Bosanko has worked for the National Archives since 1993, and has served as deputy archivist since December 2023. In that role, he runs the day-to-day operations of the agency.
“When an individual controls the records, they control the story,” Bosanko said in an interview with “60 Minutes” last September. “They control what the American people can know or not know about their presidency.”
He also reflected on what he believes is lost when presidential records are not transferred at the end of an administration.
“That strikes at the very heart of the historical record, the completeness of it, the ability to understand decisions,” Bosanko said. “And so it’s important for historians, and ultimately the American people to understand all of the pieces that came in and made up that decision making.”
On Feb. 7, the White House announced that it had dismissed National Archivist Collen Shogan, the nation’s top record keeper, and installed Secretary of State Marco Rubio as her acting replacement.
Bosanko, as deputy archivist, would have been in line to serve as acting head of the agency.

Bitcoin Retail Outflows Reach $494M, Whale Accumulation Signals Potential Market Bottom
Bitcoin Retail Outflows Reach $494M, Whale Accumulation Signals Potential Market Bottom
Bitcoin Retail Outflows Reach $494M, Whale Accumulation Signals Potential Market Bottom
Bitcoin’s retail market is experiencing a downturn, with the number of wallets holding non-zero balances falling to a five-month low of 52.45 million, as reported by Glassnode. This is a significant drop from over 52.56 million on Jan. 20, the day Bitcoin reached its all-time high of $109,000. Additionally, U.S. Bitcoin ETFs have seen substantial outflows, with a total of $494 million leaving over three consecutive days, culminating in a $251 million outflow on Feb. 12. These outflows reflect growing concerns in the market as institutional interest wanes.
Trading volumes in U.S.-listed Bitcoin ETFs have also dwindled, with just $2.58 billion in total volume on Feb. 12. Among these, BlackRock’s iShares Trust (IBIT) saw just under $2 billion in volume, putting it among the least traded ETFs. Fidelity’s Bitcoin fund (FBTC) recorded the largest individual outflow, with $102 million leaving the market. This suggests that Bitcoin ETFs, which are mainly used as trading vehicles, are not attracting the same level of interest as they once did.
However, while the retail sector and ETFs face challenges, Bitcoin’s large holders, also known as whales, are accumulating the digital asset. On Feb. 5, whales added 39,620 BTC, worth about $3.79 billion, when Bitcoin’s price dipped below $97,600. This accumulation is viewed as a positive sign by some analysts, such as Juan Pellicer from IntoTheBlock, who believes that the market may be nearing its bottom. This pattern mirrors past price corrections, suggesting that whales see value at current levels.
Despite the positive signs from whales, Bitcoin’s price has been relatively stagnant, hovering around $96,000 and trapped in a trading range between $90,000 and its all-time high. Analysts, including Iliya Kalchev from Nexo, indicate that Bitcoin’s potential for growth is limited unless it breaks decisively above the $100,000 threshold.
The broader economic context adds further complexity to Bitcoin’s outlook. Ongoing trade tensions between the U.S. and China, particularly the imposition of new tariffs, have left investors cautious. Upcoming talks between U.S. President Donald Trump and ******** President Xi Jinping will likely influence market sentiment. These discussions could affect global trade and economic stability, indirectly influencing Bitcoin’s market movements.
While Bitcoin is currently facing challenges in both the retail and ETF sectors, whale accumulation suggests that the market may be stabilizing. However, the lack of significant upward movement in Bitcoin’s price, combined with geopolitical concerns, means that the digital asset’s future remains uncertain.

Why is Sequoia Brewing closing Fresno-area restaurants? Eviction notice filed at one spot
Why is Sequoia Brewing closing Fresno-area restaurants? Eviction notice filed at one spot
Sequoia Brewing Company, a longtime classic hangout and craft beer microbrewery in Fresno’s Tower District, is closing — along with its two other Valley locations.
The location at Champlain Drive and Perrin Avenue in north Fresno, and on Main Street in Visalia will also close, several managers confirmed.
The two Fresno locations will close at 9 p.m. Sunday.
But Sequoia Brewing’s former owners are vowing to find new owners to reopen the business that was instrumental in building the early craft beer scene in Fresno in the 1990s.
“It’s not over til it’s over,” said Michele Kendall, who, along with husband Scott, sold the business in 2020 to current owners Jeremy Smith and Allison Richtel-Smith.
The Smiths were not immediately available for comment as to why the locations were closing.
But the businesses were behind on rent at two locations.
An eviction notice was filed for the Champlain Drive location in Fresno County Superior Court in August. The business owed $59,227 in unpaid rent, court documents show. Sequoia Brewing had a $16,470 monthly rent bill, plus $9,360 for maintaining common areas of the shopping center.
The City of Fresno is the landlord for the Tower Sequoia Brewing building since it purchased the Tower Theatre block in 2022 as part of an effort to preserve the theater as a “public historic asset.”
Sequoia Brewing is $12,797.76 behind on its rent, city spokesperson Sontaya Rose said Thursday.
The Kendalls moved out of town after selling Sequoia Brewing, but were often in touch with employees and available for questions.
When asked why she thought the locations were closing, Michele Kendall said they were “not run properly.”
“For Scott and I, we lived there,” she said. “We were there day and night. … That just wasn’t the case with the Smiths.”
She said she is already talking to potential new owners to take over and reopen all three locations.
“We’re diligently working on this,” she said. “I just don’t want people to think this is the end.”
The Tower location brewed beer for all three sites, in addition to serving food and hosting live music. Together, they had about 80 employees.
“Its just sickening; it just is heartbreaking,” she said.
News of the looming closure was a shock to workers and customers alike. An employee at the north Fresno location said they learned Wednesday they’d be losing their jobs.
One manager who had worked at the Tower location for nearly a decade said she heard the news through a text message at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday. She said it was a bitter situation, and hard on the community that the employees and former owners had built.
A bartender posted cryptically on the Tower District location’s Facebook page that after 27 years his time at the brewery was coming to an end.
“The amount of caring love, outrageous times, and legendary times could not be comprehended. Because it is immeasurable. Thank you all for letting me ride the best wave ever for all these decades,” his post said.
The outpouring of grief and well wishes was immediate.
Said one commenter: “So this is heartbreaking that a staple of the Tower is closing? And not just this location. All the best to you and the rest of the staff!”
Sequoia Brewing and its history
Sequoia Brewing has played a fundamental role in the Tower District and Fresno’s craft beer scene for decades.
It used to be Butterfield’s, a restaurant and microbrewery that the Kendalls bought when it was about 10 years old in 1999.
The founder of Butterfields once also operated Butterfield Brewing Co., a $4 million downtown brewery and beer garden at Inyo and L streets that opened in 1999 but didn’t survive.
But the Kendalls succeeded with Butterfield’s on Olive Avenue, eventually renaming it Sequoia Brewing Co.
This was years before breweries such as Tioga-Sequoia Brewing Co. opened and the formation of downtown’s Brewery District.
Sequoia Brewing opened the Champlain location in 2005 and later a location on Visalia’s Main Street.
Fresno Bee reporter Robert Rodriguez contributed to this story.

Webb Telescope Unveils Hidden Process Behind Star Formation in Phoenix Cluster
Webb Telescope Unveils Hidden Process Behind Star Formation in Phoenix Cluster
Researchers using NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope have provided insights into the rapid star formation within the Phoenix galaxy cluster, a phenomenon that has puzzled scientists for years. The cluster, located 5.8 billion light-years from Earth, contains a supermassive ****** hole of roughly 10 billion solar masses, which typically suppresses star formation by heating surrounding gas. However, data from Webb, combined with observations from the Hubble Space Telescope, Chandra X-ray Observatory, and ground-based telescopes, have revealed cooling gas flows that fuel star birth, challenging long-held theories about galaxy cluster evolution.
Cooling Gas Mapped in Phoenix Cluster
According to findings published in Nature, spectroscopic data from Webb has provided a detailed map of cooling gas within the cluster. This cluster, located 5.8 billion light-years away, contains a supermassive ****** hole of approximately 10 billion solar masses at its core. In most clusters, such ****** holes release high-energy radiation that prevents gas from cooling enough to form stars. However, in the Phoenix cluster, an exceptionally high star formation rate has been observed, raising questions about the underlying process.
As reported by NASA, Michael McDonald, principal investigator of the study and an astrophysicist at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, stated that previous observations had shown inconsistent cooling rates at different temperatures. He compared the process to a ski slope where more people arrive at the top via a lift than reach the bottom, implying that a key element of the process was missing.
Webb’s Observations Reveal Missing Gas
As per the study, Webb has identified the intermediate-temperature gas that bridges the gap between the hottest and coldest phases of star formation. Observations using Webb’s Mid-Infrared Instrument (MIRI) confirmed that this gas, which measures around 540,000 degrees Fahrenheit, is distributed in cavities within the cluster. The presence of this cooling gas resolves inconsistencies in previous studies and provides a more complete picture of the cluster’s star formation cycle. Michael Reefe, lead author of the study and a researcher at MIT, explained that Webb’s sensitivity allowed the detection of neon VI emissions, which are typically faint but clearly visible in the mid-infrared spectrum. He stated that this discovery provides a crucial tool for studying similar clusters and understanding star formation on a broader scale.
New Insights into Galaxy Cluster Evolution
Researchers now plan to apply these findings to other galaxy clusters to determine whether similar processes occur elsewhere. While the Phoenix cluster exhibits extreme characteristics, the methodology established through Webb’s observations could offer insights into more common galaxy clusters. The ability to track gas cooling and star formation at intermediate temperatures represents a significant step forward in astrophysics.
The James Webb Space Telescope continues to play a critical role in uncovering new aspects of the universe, with these latest observations contributing to a more comprehensive understanding of galaxy cluster evolution and the mechanisms that drive star formation.

Over 40M gallons wastewater discharged into Chattahoochee River, officials say
AUSTELL, Ga. – The Cobb County Water System (CCWS) has reported a spill at its South Cobb Water Reclamation Facility following routine compliance testing.
The tests revealed that treated wastewater released on Wednesday did not fully meet the facility’s standards.
The backstory
The facility, which is authorized by the Georgia Environmental Protection Division (EPD) to treat up to 40 million gallons of wastewater daily, discharged 40.08 million gallons into the Chattahoochee River on Feb. 12. CCWS officials determined that the incident qualified as a “spill” under EPD guidelines after receiving sampling results on Thursday.
What they’re saying
Despite the spill, officials assured that the discharged water was disinfected and will not affect drinking water supplies. “Daily water quality testing upstream and downstream of the release site has shown no impact on the river, and no cleanup or remediation is required,” they stated.

Oscar Pistorius’s new life in a millionaire’s mansion with a lookalike girlfriend
Oscar Pistorius’s new life in a millionaire’s mansion with a lookalike girlfriend
In his low-key new world, Oscar Pistorius is trying to live up to the message on his back tattoo: “I do not run like a man running aimlessly”.
There have been caretaking shifts volunteering at a local church and the launch of a new charity as he seeks a sense of purpose on parole. But Pistorius feels most like his old self when the blades are up and running again, pounding the track at his uncle’s multi-million pound South African mansion.
“He’s working hard physically at the moment – running, in the gym and trying to get his body back into shape,” explains Mark Williams-Thomas, a detective-turned-broadcaster who remains in regular contact with Pistorius. “Exercise has always been so important to Oscar. He knows how important it is to keep fit and stay healthy. When he came out [of prison], he was a shadow of himself. In the first early days, I would speak to him and he was just profoundly exhausted, mentally and physically. He is much better now.”
Pistorius following his release from prison – Getty Images/Deaan Vivier
It is 13 months since Pistorius’s release on parole from Atteridgeville Correctional Centre and now exactly 12 years since he killed Reeva Steenkamp, who was his girlfriend of three months, at his house in Pretoria.
To this day, Pistorius claims the four hollow-point bullets he shot through a bathroom door in the early hours were aimed at a possible intruder. Nevertheless, an initial conviction of culpable ********* was overturned in favour of a verdict of ******* by the Supreme Court in 2015.
Now there is plenty of time to reflect for Pistorius. There is volunteering work to be done sweeping floors at a nearby church but a vast amount of time is spent behind the 15ft walls of the luxurious home in Wakkerstroom owned by his uncle Albert. Pistorius Snr, a Donald Trump-supporting businessman, is fiercely protective, claiming before Pistorius’s release that his nephew had “matured”.
This Valentine’s Day, there is said to be a new blonde girlfriend – Rita Greyling, a business management consultant from a millionaire family who lives near Pistorius’s base.
The relationship has been met with shock by the Steenkamp family. Older sister Simone Cowburn reportedly said: “Is she nuts?” Steenkamp’s mother, June, has consistently said she would be “concerned for the safety of any woman” who comes into contact with him.
But Williams-Thomas, a former Surrey police detective who remains the only broadcaster to interrogate Pistorius on camera, refuses to condemn his 2016 interviewee. As the family attempt to map out his next move, Williams-Thomas offers the ********* view that he deserves a chance at a “second life”.
“He will forever live with what happened to him, and he’s never shied away from that,” says Williams-Thomas. “He’s always accepted the responsibility for what he did. He took someone’s life, and he’ll live with that for the whole of his life. He remains at his uncle’s house and he’s trying to work and provide for society.
“I have got to know Oscar and his family and friends and he is kind and genuine. He is not this dangerous, arrogant man as painted by so many and I think we, as a society, have a duty to allow him to move on and try and live his second life as it were.”
‘No South African prisons are easy – he had a tough life’
Williams-Thomas had visited Pistorius multiple times at both Kgosi Mampuru II jail and Atteridgeville, where he spent the majority of his prison term.
“There were floods in one of the prisons he was at,” he adds. “They weren’t clean. You had to watch your back the whole time and look out for other people. There was a hierarchy system within jails and he was a part of all of that.
“He ended his sentence in a prison which was gentler than his original prison. The original one was really ******. But no South African prisons are easy. People say, ‘Oh, he had a cushy life because of who he was’. I saw first-hand he had a tough life in prison. There was no benefit for him because of who he was at all. He literally was a prisoner like everybody else.”
Others close to the case will argue this was the least Pistorius deserved. Steenkamp, a 29-year-old model and face of an anti-bullying campaign, was about to return to her old school to talk to girls about gender-based violence when she was killed. Pistorius, meanwhile, stood accused of having a history of controlling and abusing women. Text messages between the couple were particularly damning. One former girlfriend, Samantha Taylor, also said she feared he would kill her, saying in one interview that she once hid his gun after he flew into a rage at her.
Those who had previously cheered the sporting feats of disability sport’s first millionaire celebrity felt betrayed. Six gold medals over three Paralympic Games, and his history-making appearance at the Olympics in London 2012 made him the second-most talked about athlete that year behind Usain Bolt.
Pistorius wins Paralympics gold at London 2012 – Ian Kington/Getty Images
A picture painted in his trial of a volatile, hot-tempered and aggressive enigma with an appetite for fast cars, beautiful women and guns left only his inner circle still convinced Reeva’s death was a mistake.
‘I can still smell the blood’
In 2016, between jail stints and house arrest while awaiting a new sentence, he agreed to give Williams-Thomas his only television interview.
“I did take Reeva’s life and I have to live with that,” Pistorius told Williams-Thomas as they sat down at the same property he now lives in under his five-year parole terms. “I can smell the blood. I can feel the warmness of it on my hands. And to know that that’s your fault, that that’s what you’ve done.”
Williams-Thomas, who also fronted the ITV Exposure series that first named Jimmy Savile as a prolific paedophile, now says of his time with Pistorius: “It was a mad time. We did it all covertly. I spent a lot of time with him and spent hours and hours sitting talking to him. He was really worried about the film going out and how it would come across, and how he would be portrayed. We just said, ‘Look, just be yourself’.”
Pistorius pledged at the time: “If I was afforded the opportunity of redemption I would like to help the less fortunate”. Over the past year, he has been given a chance to live up to that pledge. His parole terms have banned him from speaking to the press. Instead, his activities on LinkedIn offer the only available direct clues around his next moves. He appears to have attempted to launch a charity called ReAble, although it is unclear what has happened to the organisation after he stood down as chief executive in November.
He remains active on LinkedIn, however, and three weeks ago “liked” a post from Greyling stating she was starting a new position as head of business development for the region at Dutch consultancy firm Inlumi.
Williams-Thomas, who maintains he still believes Pistorius’s version of events, suggests the “redemption” that Pistorius craved in his conversation with him eight years ago is now within sight. “I would like to believe that if Reeva could look down on me then she would want me to live that life,” Pistorius had told him. There is much work to be done, however, before the Steenkamp family start believing him.

Perth traffic alert for Optus Stadium’s Indigenous All Stars AFL game, Kylie Minogue concert at RAC Arena
Perth motorists are being told to expect heavy traffic on Saturday, with two major events happening around the city.
Main Roads WA has urged people attending the Indigenous All Stars football game at Optus Stadium and the Kylie Minogue concert at RAC Arena to consider taking public transport to the events.
Gates at Optus will open at 3pm, with the game set to kick off at 4.30pm, while doors to Kylie’s first concert of her world tour will open at 6.45pm.
The Western Force will also attract big crowds to the CBD, with the rugby team set to open their Super Rugby Pacific campaign against Moana Pasifika at HBF Park at 4.35pm
Extra foot traffic is expected in the CBD and around Burswood, with people told to be aware of frequently stopping vehicles and ride share drop-offs.

Integrated graphics cards have been fighting an uphill battle for many years, often failing to achieve anything near what discrete GPUs are capable of in raw power, but a new AMD Strix Halo leak could suggest some massive changes are coming.
X user HXL posted an image on Wednesday showcasing their results testing the AMD Ryzen AI Max 390 chip with Radeon 8050S graphics and achieved a score of 10,106 on the 3DMark Time Spy benchmark.
There’s not much to take away from this number on its own, but comparing it to the Time Spy performances we’ve seen for other integrated graphics and even discrete GPUs makes it clearer than ever how staggering of a score this is.
And that’s the exact issue here: 10,106 is far too high of a number and seems too good to be true for integrated graphics.
There’s no way integrated graphics are already this good, right?
AMD Ryzen AI Max 390’s integrated GPU (Radeon 8050S) achieving a score of 10,106 is absolutely ridiculous when comparing it to the performance of similar chips.
We just recently tested Arrow Lake’s integrated graphics performance with the Asus Zenbook Duo, built with an Intel Core Ultra 9 285H processor and Intel Arc 140T iGPU with 16GB of vRAM. I was seriously impressed as I smoothly played through Elden Ring at high graphics, hovering around 35 to 45 frames per second as the game maintained its gorgeousness.
It’s a pretty solid metric of what modern integrated graphics are capable of, and yet, on the 3DMark Time Spy benchmark, the Intel Arc 140T managed a score of 4,023. Yes, if these leaked benchmarks are to be believed, the upcoming AMD Ryzen AI Max 390 is around 2.5x better at gaming than Intel’s recently launched Arrow Lake chips.

This isn’t a case of AMD vs Intel, either. We recently reviewed the MSI Prestige A16 AI+, which is built with an AMD Ryzen AI 9 365 processor and Radeon 880M integrated graphics, and it achieved a score of 3,663 on the Time Spy benchmark. Even a handheld gaming console like Lenovo Legion Go, built with an AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme, only got an 2,464 on the Time Spy benchmark.
These leaked benchmarks would mean AMD’s new integrated graphics found the secret recipe to making an iGPU that seems like it’s from a decade in the future. In other words, I don’t believe it for a second.
Things get even harder to believe when comparing this number to discrete graphics. The Acer Predator Triton Neo 16, which is built with a Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060 laptop GPU, earned a Time Spy score of 9,230. The notion that an integrated GPU could perform better than an RTX 4060, even if it’s technically on the lower-end of performance in the 40-series, is absolutely ridiculous.
Of course, even if these Time Spy scores are accurate, it’s not necessarily a true reflection of gaming performance overall. But to be perfectly honest, when we finally get our hands on a laptop with the AMD Ryzen AI Max 390, I’m pretty certain we’re not going to see a Time Spy score anywhere near 10,106.
