Download the free KHON2 app for iOS or Android to stay informed on the latest news Crews from Hilo’s Plant Quarantine Branch were notified of the snake on Feb. 4 after a resident found it pinned under a log. Lifeguards headed to the beach to collect the three-foot-long snake, which was contained in a five-gallon bucket. Tackling Oahu’s invasive coqui frog population No injuries were reported from the incident, but the Hawaii PQB reminds beach and ocean goers that these snakes are extremely dangerous and should not be touched. We want to take this opportunity to inform the public to be wary of any snake-like reptile in or near the ocean. This type of sea snake can be more venomous than a cobra and potentially lethal to humans. Powerfully, this support has transcended political, racial, and even class divisions, as mail has flooded MDC from across the country, and around the globe. While it is impossible for me to reply to most letters, please know that I read every one that I receive. Thank you again to everyone who took the time to write. I look forward to hearing more in the future.” The website, established by his New York defense team in a bid to “provide answers to frequently asked questions, accurate information about his cases, and dispel misinformation‚” went live on Friday. The site features case updates, information on his legal team, an FAQ section, a contact form, and a link to a fundraiser for Mangione’s legal fund, which has already raised more than $400,000. His legal team confirmed to Rolling Stone that both the website and Mangione’s statement are legitimate. Mangione has experienced an outpouring of support since his arrest, becoming something of a folk hero for many Americans frustrated by the inaccessibility and inequity baked into the U.S. healthcare system. A poll published two weeks after Thompson’s ******* found that 41 percent of voters under the age of 30 considered the assassination to be acceptable, compared to just 17 percent of overall voters. Comments made in conjunction with the more than 10,000 donations on Mangione’s fundraiser provide some insight into the minds of his supporters; many condemn the healthcare system, while others voice concerns about the risk of Mangione facing the death penalty. One group, which has created a crypto coin in Mangione’s honor, donated the single largest amount at $6,286, writing, “$LUIGI on Solana is committed to taking action and fixing our healthcare system. In a recent earnings release for investors, Denny’s revealed that it is closing about 30 more stores in 2025. This follows Denny’s previous announcement of 150 store closures, which is now underway. Denny’s previous downsizing plans have already shuttered many locations, with at least 88 restaurants ceasing operations by the end of 2024. With these new closures expected, Denny’s target for 2025 is to close another 70 to 90 stores, meaning approximately 180 fewer Denny’s locations when all is said and done. Currently, there are approximately 1,300 Denny’s restaurants in the United States. Denny’s says it was able to rescue some underperforming restaurants with successful remodels, which generated a 6.5% year-over-year increase in customers for these restaurants. However, remodels are expensive and difficult: The restaurant chain was only able to complete a total of 24 of them last year. In addition to mundane reasons like expiring leases or prohibitively expensive building renovations, a major motivation for these impending closures is an ever-evolving market. And some are simply not as lucrative as they used to be. This partially echoes the plight of Domino’s, which announced the coming closure of over 200 locations, mostly in Japan. However, unlike Denny’s, Domino’s business in the U.S. is strong, but its Japanese locations have suffered from changes in consumer habits that have rendered dozens of once-profitable stores economic dead weight. Unfortunately, the chain restaurant business is no stranger to dire economic straits. Last year, TGI Fridays suddenly closed 49 U.S. locations amid sagging business and is now facing bankruptcy. On Thursday, after rumors about an upcoming product launch bubbled up all week, Apple finally dropped a hint about when to expect its latest device: February 19. While the teaser didn’t reveal much about what product is launching next week, one in particular seems highly, highly likely: The iPhone SE 4. Apple eyes February 19 for “#AppleLaunch” Credit: Apple On Thursday, Apple CEO Tim Cook shared a post on X pointing to February 19 for the launch of a new Apple product. The post doesn’t give away much about what exactly is launching, simply reading, “Get ready to meet the newest member of the family. Wednesday, February 19. #AppleLaunch.” Cook might be doing his best to keep this new device under wraps, but it’s no secret Apple is gearing up for an iPhone SE 4 launch. Rumors about the new phone have been bubbling up for weeks, with numerous photos of the design leaking on social media. The current iPhone SE is long overdue for an update, too. It was released in March 2022 and still sports the antiquated design from the iPhone 8. So, it seems highly likely that the “newest member of the family” is an overhauled iPhone SE with a modern design, this time borrowed from the iPhone 14. What we know about the iPhone SE 4 so far Credit: Laptop Mag / Rael Hornby I can’t wait to see what Apple has in store for its February 19 product announcement, but if it is the iPhone SE as we’re predicting, we already have a good idea of what to expect. Current rumors indicate that the iPhone SE 4 will feature a completely overhauled design that finally — finally! — ditches the home button. Leaked images show the new SE sporting a design mostly recycled from the iPhone 14, with a few minor changes (specifically, a different camera arrangement). That alone is a major upgrade over the current SE, but of course, we’re also expecting Apple to refresh the new SE’s specs. At the very least, it will have a new processor, which could be the A16, A17, or possibly even the A17 Pro. Apple will also probably bump the iPhone SE 4 up to 8GB of RAM (double what the current model has) to allow it to run Apple Intelligence. We could also see improvements in battery life and display quality, but we’ll have to wait until Apple’s official announcement to find out. Luckily, it looks like the wait is almost over! In the Warriors’ last hit out before their NRL round-one match in Las Vegas and playing on a field modified in size accordingly, Metcalf starred in the No.7 jersey with a hand in four tries on Saturday. Rising centre Ali Leiataua also showed his strike at centre, bagging a double as part of a 36-0 first-half rout, while Roger Tuivasa-Sheck’s sidestep was on show as he scored twice. Melbourne’s side looked nothing like the one that will face Parramatta in round one, with star recruit Stefano Utoikamanu the only guaranteed starter in their team. Such was the Storm’s inexperience, they completed only five sets in the first 30 minutes as the Warriors had 75 per cent of possession. That meant Utoikamanu had little impact in his first game for the Storm. But while Melbourne will likely roll out a stronger side against North Queensland next Sunday, this was an important afternoon for the Warriors. The retirements of halfback Johnson and captain Tohu Harris have landed them in wooden-spoon conversations in the pre-season, with particular concerns over their attack. But Metcalf has the potential to be the club’s attacking future. After being ravaged by injuries and limited to 26 games since his 2021 debut, he has the chance to make the No.7 jersey his own this year. The 25-year-old set up the Warriors’ first try when he went to the line and created the numbers for Leiataua to bat on a ball for Taine Tuaupiki to score. Another came in similar fashion when the half went to the right again and straightened up, creating the space for Tuaupiki to cross for his second. Taking charge of the attack, Metcalf put up another bomb that led to a try when Storm winger Setu Tu spilled the ball and Tuivasa-Sheck crossed. He also created the space for Leiataua to score before the break, with the centre dummying, pushing and forcing his way over from 20 metres out. It was one of two tries for the 22-year-old, who barged over from close distance from a Te Maire Martin pass. Chanel Harris-Tavita also impressed at five-eighth, changing the point of direction in the lead up to another Tuivasa-Sheck try. Playing back on the wing this season, Tuivasa-Sheck showed all his old silky skills by stepping Sualauvi Faalogo from close distance. Harris-Tavita then had a try of his own when he stepped and jinked through the Storm’s right-edge defence. Metcalf and the vast majority of the Warriors’ top team did not return after halftime, before the Storm scored twice through Kane Bradley and Ben Talty. The Warriors will face a far tougher challenge against Canberra in Vegas, but they have shown their potential to prosper post-Johnson. Not only is this a source of food for many, but it also helps control the deer population and maintain balance in the environment. But the 2024-25 deer hunting season was disrupted by clear-cutting within mere weeks of the season’s opening date, ExploreClarion.com reported. What’s happening? State Game Lands Number 72 in Clarion County was subjected to a clear-cut logging operation in late 2024, during which valuable ****** birch timber was removed. But the way the operation was conducted left less valuable trees and debris behind — many of those pieces hanging precariously from other trees, where they could fall at any time, which is why they’re known as “widowmakers.” Other logs and branches blocked paths through the woods. Hunters protested, and some even had tree stands in the woods that were now inaccessible. Facing fines for leaving the equipment after the end of hunting season but danger if they tried to retrieve it from the mess left behind, the hunters were presented with a dilemma. “They could have called people to let us know,” said Scott Anthony, a local hunter, per Explore Clarion. “Instead, they just went in, cut everything, and buried our stuff.” Why is this use of public lands important? There are ecological arguments in favor of controlled logging. Removing mature trees can open the tree canopy and let sunlight down to the forest floor, allowing younger trees and shorter bushes to grow. However, an operation of this type should have happened in spring to allow time for the area to recover and the wildlife to adjust before winter. There should also have been cleanup efforts to keep the area safe and accessible. According to Explore Clarion, this clear-cut was so poorly planned that some hunters questioned whether it was even authorized by the Pennsylvania Game Commission. What’s being done about timbering on public land? Bill Snyder, a local retired biologist and long-time hunter, contacted the Game Commission in Harrisburg to ask about the clear-cut and was shocked to find that the officials he talked with were unaware of the activity. “The guy I spoke to said, ‘I don’t know anything about it,'” Snyder said, per Explore Clarion.
