  1. Armed men are guarding the streets of Lincoln Heights, stopping cars and vetting passersby Armed men are guarding the streets of Lincoln Heights, stopping cars and vetting passersby LINCOLN HEIGHTS, Ohio – In the days since a neo-Nazi demonstration rattled residents here, a group of men began guarding its streets, many donning all ****** and wearing masks, with rifles in hand. But they are doing more than your typical neighborhood watch: They’ve stopped people from passing through, approached cars in a fast food drive-thru and even threatened to shoot a property owner. The Enquirer reviewed more than three dozen 911 calls from the Lincoln Heights area since a Feb. 7 white supremacist demonstration on the I-75 overpass at Vision Way left residents on edge. Several callers expressed concerns with seeing the men with guns, but three callers recounted confrontations with the armed men that step beyond what many would consider within the limits of Ohio’s open carry laws. Jim Meister, who owns a business in Lincoln Heights, told The Enquirer one of the armed men pointed his rifle at him and threatened to shoot. Meister called police Feb. 11 after seeing a car parked in a fenced off, vacant lot he owns adjacent to his business. When Meister arrived there with a 911 dispatcher on the phone, three men got out of the car and approached him. “I’m calling the police,” Meister is heard saying to the men in a recording of the 911 call. “We are the police. What’s wrong?” one man appears to reply. “We’re protecting Lincoln Heights.” Following a rolling protest, Monday from Lincoln Heights through Evendale, people gather back in Lincoln Heights. Several men with firearms said they were there to protect the residents. Some residents say police assisted neo-Nazis during a demonstration on Feb. 7 on the Interstate 75 overpass between the two communities. Meister said one of the men, carrying what looked like an assault rifle, then pointed his gun at Meister and his friend. They argued about who owned the lot and when police arrived, the men admitted they didn’t know Meister was the owner. A deputy asked Meister if he’d like them off his property. He said he let them stay the night, but that has since turned into a week – and a tent is now in the center of the lot. Another man, Daniel Jacobs, called 911 and said he was forced to leave the neighborhood after armed men would not let him pass through Feb. 10. Jacobs told The Enquirer he’s tried to file a police report twice but doesn’t feel like the sheriff’s office is taking the issue seriously. One 911 caller who was dropping kids off at a nearby school told a dispatcher Friday he saw five armed men standing at the corner of Mangham Drive and Shepherd Lane. The caller said some of the men were stopping people in the Wendy’s drive-thru and talking to them, prompting him to leave the area. Lincoln Heights rally calls for Evendale boycott to protest neo-Nazi display response A Wendy’s manager confirmed the armed men have been approaching customers in the drive-thru but declined to comment further. During a rolling car protest Monday, an Enquirer reporter was approached in his vehicle by one of the armed men, asking him what his purpose was in the neighborhood. He was allowed to proceed after showing his media credentials. “I think the police are afraid to do something because they don’t want to cause any problems,” Meister said. “But what they’re doing down there is a (criminal) offense. You can’t threaten someone and say ‘I’m going to shoot you.'” Sheriff unaware of confrontations, doesn’t want ‘neighborhood militias’ In each of the 911 calls where someone reported seeing the armed men or witnessing a confrontation, the dispatcher told them an officer would be sent to the area. In one call Monday, a 911 dispatcher told a caller that police speak with the armed men several times throughout the day and “check on them” to make sure they’re not impeding traffic or threatening people with their weapons. More: White supremacist demonstration near Cincinnati part of a larger national trend Hamilton County Sheriff Charmaine McGuffey, whose deputies are assigned to patrol the historically ****** community, said during a news conference Tuesday she had “no idea” about passersby being confronted but if it is happening, she does not condone the behavior. “Nobody has addressed that with the sheriff’s office. If they do, we will certainly articulate what can and can’t be done in that arena. We do not want to create neighborhood militias,” McGuffey said. “We won’t want to do that because we understand that it leads back to the tactics of these neo-Nazis. They want people to do that.” A sheriff’s vehicle drives slowly through Lincoln Heights following a rolling protest through Evendale on Monday. Protesters were demanding answers from Evendale Police after some residents said the police assisted neo-Nazis during a demonstration on Feb. 7 on the Interstate 75 overpass between the two communities. Several men with firearms said they were there to protect the residents. The sheriff and her spokeswoman Kyla Woods did not respond to emails or a call from The Enquirer Tuesday afternoon asking for more information about the confrontations and whether they are taking any action. “I feel as though the police are hoping this will go away by not doing anything with it,” Jacobs said. Community members taking safety into their own hands McGuffey said she has added extra resources to watch over Lincoln Heights after the white supremacist demonstration almost two weeks ago. The community of roughly 3,100 people has contracted with the sheriff’s office to patrol the village since it disbanded its police department in 2014 as a cost-cutting measure. During a town hall following the demonstration, several residents said they were unsatisfied with the level of protection they feel they’ve been getting from the sheriff’s office, with the demonstration being the latest example. Residents, saying they fear retribution from the demontrators, decided to take their safety into their own hands. At a Sunday prayer vigil following the demonstration, men armed with guns stood watching, waiting in case the demonstrators made an appearance. Sheriff says ‘no law being violated’ by swastika flyers in Evendale, residents furious and on edge When a U-Haul drove past the protest Monday from the same overpass where one filled with swastika-wearing demonstrators left days earlier, three men grabbed their guns and walked toward the truck. The U-Haul came to a stop. One man, rifle in hand, glanced toward the driver’s seat. He raised a fist in the air, letting the driver through. 7. Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra Reportedly Gets Log Video Recording Feature With One UI 7 Beta Update Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra Reportedly Gets Log Video Recording Feature With One UI 7 Beta Update Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra is reportedly getting a new camera feature that will make video recordings more suitable for professional projects. As per the report, the smartphone is getting the capability to record videos in log format. This was first introduced in the Galaxy S25 series, but is now reportedly being expanded to the previous year’s device with the fourth beta update of One UI 7 that was released on Wednesday. However, it is said that the feature is not available in the Galaxy S24 or the Galaxy S24+ models. Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra Gets Log Video Recording According to a SamMobile report, the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra is getting the capability to record videos in log format. The new feature is said to be part of the fourth beta update of the One UI 7 OS update. Since the update is currently only available in beta, only testers will be able to try out the feature. The feature is reportedly not available to the other models in the Galaxy S24 series. The reason for this is unclear. Notably, Log videos, also known as log footage, are video recordings captured in a logarithmic colour profile. These are flat, desaturated videos that retain a high dynamic range and preserve more details in highlights and shadows. Log videos are typically used in professional video productions as they offer greater flexibility in colour grading during the post-production process. Typically films and advertisements are shot in log format. To record log videos on the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra, users will need to enable the feature in the settings of the camera app. There, users will need to go to the Advanced video menu option and turn on the Log toggle. This will enable log mode for both standard and Pro video modes. After that, navigating back to the camera viewfinder will now show a LOG button that can be switched on to record videos in the log format. 8. U.S. envoy visits Ukraine after Trump blames Zelenskyy for Russia’s invasion U.S. envoy visits Ukraine after Trump blames Zelenskyy for Russia’s invasion President Trump, speaking Tuesday afternoon from his home in Florida, appeared to shift three years — if not many decades — of U.S. foreign policy almost 180 degrees, issuing remarks that made his administration sound aligned more with Russian President Vladimir Putin than America’s European allies of the last eight decades. In rhetoric similar to claims Putin has used himself to justify his three-year war on Ukraine, Mr. Trump seemed to blame President Volodymyr Zelenskyy for Russia’s full-scale invasion after the Ukrainian leader took issue with being left out of initial conversations between the White House and Moscow, which began Tuesday in Saudi Arabia. “I think I have the power to end this war, and I think it’s going very well. Today I heard, ‘Oh, well, we weren’t invited.’ Well, you’ve been there for three years. You should have ended it three years — you should have never started it,” Mr. Trump chided Zelenskyy. “You could have made a deal. I could have made a deal for Ukraine that would have given them almost all of the land. Everything, almost all of the land. And no people would have been killed and no city would have been demolished, and not one dome would have been knocked down. But they chose not to do it that way.” President Trump delivers remarks at his Mar-a-Lago resort, Feb. 18, 2025, in Palm Beach, Florida. Joe Raedle/Getty “This is, frankly, what Vladimir Putin would have said — that none of this needed to happen, when in fact, it happened because he wanted it to happen,” Ravi Agrawal, the editor in chief of Foreign Policy magazine, told CBS News’ Major Garrett after hearing Mr. Trump’s remarks. Zelenskyy reacted Wednesday, saying Mr. Trump appeared to be operating in a “disinformation space” fostered by Russia. Putin, who first sent forces into Ukraine in 2014 and seized control of its Crimean Peninsula in a unilateral annexation never recognized by the U.S. or most of the world, has claimed he was forced to launch his full-scale attack on the neighboring nation due to a threat posed by the U.S.-led NATO alliance spreading its influence eastward toward Russia’s border. The U.S. and its European NATO allies have always dismissed that excuse, insisting that Putin’s real intention ahead of the February 2022 full-scale invasion was always to seize more of Ukraine’s sovereign territory and delegitimize Zelenskyy’s pro-Western government. “NATO consists of 32 countries and it’s NATO’s position that it [war in Ukraine] was unprovoked,” Adm. Stuart B. Munsch, the commander of U.S. Naval Forces for Europe and Africa, said Wednesday in Romania when asked about Mr. Trump’s remarks. The American commander — one of the U.S. Navy’s longest-serving active duty officers — is in Romania for a NATO military exercise aimed at preparing the alliance for any further Russian aggression on Europe’s far eastern flank. Mr. Trump has made fiery rhetoric, and sometimes a loose adherence to fact, a hallmark of his negotiating tactics with foreign powers — including a baseless claim from his Mar-a-Lago mansion on Tuesday that Zelenskyy’s approval rating had dipped to 4%, when domestic polling in Ukraine shows it over 50%. That lines up with Kremlin propaganda, along with a call for Ukraine to hold new elections and a suggestion it should have done so already, despite the country’s constitution making a vote impossible under the current state of emergency sparked by Russia’s invasion. Can Trump broker peace between Russia’s Putin and Ukraine without Zelenskyy? 07:58 Mr. Trump’s remarkable espousal of Russian rhetoric has fueled rising concern in Europe that the U.S. could be shifting the enormous weight of its geopolitical and security influence away from the deep-rooted democracies of the West, toward the autocratic rulers of the ideologically conservative east, and especially Putin. The Russian leader’s longtime confidant, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, acknowledged the shift Wednesday, lauding Mr. Trump and saying his “remarks on NATO being the main reason for the conflict in Ukraine are a signal that he understands our position.” “I assume the United States, as discussed yesterday, intends to remove obstacles that are in the path of promising projects. We have begun to move away from the edge of the abyss where Biden’s administration led our relationship,” the veteran Russian diplomat said. Zelenskyy has softened his stance in recent months, seemingly accepting that he may have to cede some of his country’s Russian-occupied territory in an eventual peace deal, but he’s made it clear that Ukraine must be involved in the negotiations for a ceasefire agreement, and that his country will need security guarantees from the U.S. and the West to protect it from any future Russian attack. “We are seeing a lot of disinformation and that is coming from Russia,” Zelenskyy said Wednesday. “Unfortunately, President Trump, with all due respect… is living in this disinformation space.” Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy speaks with a Turkish media outlet during a visit to Turkey, Feb. 19, 2025, in Ankara. Mert Gokhankoc/dia images/Getty The Ukrainian leader said he wanted to end the war “this year,” but he admonished the Trump administration for helping Russia’s autocratic regime to “break out” of the isolation it brought upon itself — in the form of sanctions and cut-off diplomacy — by launching the unprovoked attack on his country. It was unclear how hard Mr. Trump’s special envoy Keith Kellogg, who arrived in Kyiv Wednesday to “sit and listen” to Zelenskyy’s administration after the Ukrainians were left out of the initial dialogue with the Kremlin, would push the American president’s viewpoint that Ukraine could or should have prevented or stopped the war foisted upon it by its far larger, far better armed, autocratically-ruled neighbor. Upon arriving, Kellogg, a retired three-star general, said it was nice to be visiting Kyiv “just a few days before the third anniversary of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine,” seemingly acknowledging which side had initiated the war. Kellogg called his visit “a chance to have some good, substantial talks,” but what Ukraine will want is a clear indication that the world’s biggest military power will somehow protect it from future Russian aggression. Zelenskyy has long said that could come in the form of either NATO membership for his country or NATO forces deployed to enforce a ceasefire. After U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio led the White House delegation’s bilateral talks with Lavrov in Saudia Arabia on Tuesday, the Russian foreign minister said point-blank that the Kremlin wouldn’t accept either of those things. Russia has already ruled out any exchange of occupied territory with Ukraine, and it’s unclear what concessions the Trump administration could try to win from Russia for a peace deal. “We understand the need for security guarantees,” Kellogg told Ukrainian public broadcaster Suspilne Novyny after arriving in Kyiv on Wednesday. “It’s very clear to us the importance of the sovereignty of this nation and the independence of this nation as well… Part of my mission is to sit and listen.” He said he would share what he learned on his trip to Kyiv with Mr. Trump and Rubio to “ensure that we get this one right.” A Kremlin spokesperson has said Putin and President Trump could meet in-person as early as this month, even as the war in Ukraine rages on. 10. Mass Effect Veteran Who Didn’t Come Back For Mass Effect 3 Says Director Was “Not Particularly Happy With Me” Mass Effect Veteran Who Didn’t Come Back For Mass Effect 3 Says Director Was “Not Particularly Happy With Me” Composer Jack Wall wrote the music for Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2, but he did not return for Mass Effect 3 and has not worked with developer BioWare since. What gives? We don’t know the whole story, but Wall said in an interview that Mass Effect director Casey Hudson “was not particularly happy with me at the end.” Despite that, Wall told The Guardian he was “so proud” of the score for that game, going on to note that it received a BAFTA nomination, even if the game overall “didn’t go as well as [Hudson] wanted.” The music for Mass Effect 3 was written by a team including Sascha Dikiciyan, Sam Hulick, Christopher Lennertz, Cris Velasco, and Clint Mansell. Discussing what sounded like a strained relationship with Hudson, Wall admitted, “Fallouts like that happen; it’s just part of the deal.” This type of working experience was a rarity for Wall, though. “It’s one of the few times in my career that’s happened, and it was a tough time, but it is what it is,” he said. As for Hudson, he left BioWare after the disappointing launch of Anthem. He started a studio that was making a new IP before the game was canceled and the studio shut down. Also in the interview, Wall discussed Mass Effect 2’s much-heralded Suicide Mission, saying helping put it together was the “biggest mind-f**king thing I’ve ever done in my entire life.” He said the developers were “freaking out trying to finish the game,” so he didn’t have much help on the music side. But he praised the developers at BioWare for turning in something special in the end. “They had to do a lot of massaging on their end in order to get it to work, but they did it … and the result is still one of the best ending sequences to a game that I’ve ever played. It was worth all that effort,” he said. After Mass Effect 2, Wall began his work on the Call of Duty series, starting with 2015’s ****** Ops 3. He also wrote music for ****** Ops 4, ****** Ops Cold War, Call of Duty: Vanguard, 2023’s Modern Warfare 3, and ****** Ops 6 most recently. As for the Mass Effect series, BioWare is now working on the next entry in the franchise. The studio’s last game, Dragon Age: The Veilguard, failed to meet EA’s expectations, leading to layoffs. 11. Austrian police arrest teen who plotted railway attack Austrian police arrest teen who plotted railway attack Austrian investigators have arrested a 14-year-old who was allegedly planning an attack at a Vienna railway station and found material that suggested he supported the Islamic State group. The Interior Ministry said that the boy, an Austrian with Turkish roots, was arrested in the capital on February 10, the Austria Press Agency reported. The arrest was triggered by tips to Austrian intelligence that a supporter of IS had posted stories and videos with Islamic extremist content on several TikTok profiles. The suspect had a knife in his pocket at the time of his arrest, the ministry said. During a search of his home, investigators found numerous Islamic extremist books as well as sketches of attacks with knives and machetes at a station and against police officers. They also found handwritten instructions for making explosive material to serve as a detonator for a bomb. Further material that apparently was meant to be used in making a bomb was found in the building’s basement, along with other knives. The suspect refused to testify in initial questioning. APA reported that he apparently had planned an attack at the Westbahnhof, a major railway station in Vienna. On Sunday, a teenager was killed and five other people were wounded in a stabbing in Villach, in southern Austria, by a man with possible connections with IS. The suspect, a 23-year-old Syrian, was arrested after the attack on Saturday afternoon. 13. Nvidia GeForce RTX 5070 Ti review: A proper high-end GPU Nvidia GeForce RTX 5070 Ti review: A proper high-end GPU Introducing the Nvidia GeForce RTX 5070 Ti The Nvidia GeForce RTX 5070 Ti marks the third entry for the Blackwell RTX 50-series GPUs, which Nvidia officially unveiled at CES 2025 in early January. It takes over from both the original RTX 4070 Ti as well as the newer RTX 4070 Ti Super, with the latter having replaced the 4070 Ti last January. The 5070 Ti looks better against the 4070 Ti, while it’s more of an incremental upgrade from the 4070 Ti Super. The good news is that it’s also $50 cheaper than the launch prices on the 4070 Ti / Super cards, coming in at $749. Faster, cheaper, and new features is a great way to make it onto our list of the best graphics cards — assuming there’s sufficient supply, which remains to be seen. Nvidia is allowing reviews of the base-MSRP 5070 Ti models today, with higher priced variants tomorrow (and after). The official launch date for all RTX 5070 Ti cards is February 20, 2025 as well, so you can’t buy one until tomorrow. We were told that there should be quite a lot more RTX 5070 Ti cards at launch than either the RTX 5090 or RTX 5080, but even so we anticipate the first batch at least will sell out quickly, and prices will likely head north in the short term before coming back down (we hope). You might think that a month after the RTX 5090 launch, things would have quieted down, but that’s not really true. In addition to trying to test some third-party AIB (add-in board) cards, we’ve had several new drivers, the 5080 launch, and unfortunately one of our sample AIB cards has been finnicky (to say the least). We’re still looking for a solution, which may involve sending the card back for a different sample. The 50-series launch hasn’t gone smoothly, in other words. We did a lengthier deep-dive into DLSS 4 and MFG, using the 5080 and 5090, to get a better understanding of what the tech does and doesn’t offer. The short summary is that MFG is a lot like framegen, with even more marketing hype. When it gives a straight doubling in performance, from 60 to 120, or from 120 to 240 in the case of MFG, you can make a good argument that it looks and feels “better.” But typically it’s more like a 50~80 percent improvement, making comparisons more difficult, and if it’s less than a 50% increase it can end up feeling worse. We haven’t had sufficient time to do additional MFG testing on the 5070 Ti (yet), but we’ll flesh out that section of this review in the coming days. While the official Nvidia party line is that MFG makes the 5070 Ti “twice as fast” as the previous generation, that’s a gross exaggeration. It might be able to ***** out twice as many frames — 1x rendered and 3x generated — compared to the 4070 Ti, but the actual feel of games with MFG doesn’t improve nearly as much as those inflated numbers would suggest. For additional information about Nvidia’s latest Blackwell GPUs, check the links in the boxout. The RTX 5070 Ti continues the same pattern, just with fewer GPU cores and less performance than the 5080 and 5090. It offers the same feature set as the other Blackwell GPUs, like FP4 number format support (for AI) and MFG (Multi Frame Generation) for gaming. It also has the same 16GB of GDDR7 memory as the 5080, though the memory is clocked slightly lower. Let’s start with the specs table and discuss how it stacks up. There are other architectural differences that we’ve discussed elsewhere, like how the CUDA cores are now all “full citizens” and support both FP32 and INT32 (only half the cores in Ada and Ampere supported INT32), and there are other changes to support new neural rendering techniques. But forget all that for a moment and just look at the die sizes and transistor counts. RTX 5070 Ti offers a decent step up from the original 4070 Ti, but compared to the 4070 Ti Super it looks extremely similar. They both have the same number of transistors and the same die size, using the same TSMC 4N process node. The transistor counts aren’t necessarily 100% accurate, as they’re more a rough estimate, but it does suggest that the architectural changes may not be that significant. It’s also possible some things were dropped or simplified in order to make room for new features. What those things might be is more difficult to pin down. Getting back to the specs, total compute performance looks basically the same as the 4070 Ti Super: 44 TFLOPS FP32, and 352–353 TFLOPS FP16 on the tensor cores. Clock speeds are also lower, on paper, with the 5070 Ti. As usual, however, Nvidia’s stated boost clocks are quite conservative estimates and most of the games we tested ran at much higher speeds. Memory speed and bandwidth are both quite a bit higher with the 5070 Ti. It’s 33% faster than the 4070 Ti Super on speed and bandwidth, and 78% higher on bandwidth compared to the 4070 Ti, thanks to having a 33% wider interface. And of course, it also offers 33% more VRAM capacity than the 4070 Ti. We tossed a few earlier GPUs from the 30- and 20-series into the table for reference. If you’re still using something like a 3070 Ti or 2070 Super, the 5070 Ti should offer a pretty massive improvement in performance. Is it enough to get people to upgrade? For some, we’re sure the answer will be yes, but if you’re already sporting something like an RTX 4070 Ti Super, or even an RTX 4070, this will likely be an easy generation to sit out. The Asus Prime has a vertically oriented 16-pin power connector, with a relatively inflexible 3x 8-pin adapter included, if you need it.5323439 (Image credit: Tom’s Hardware) Basically, you get improved AI features, including MFG support. You also get upgraded display outputs (DisplayPort 2.1 UHBR20) and a PCIe 5.0 x16 interface, though neither of those are likely to matter much for most consumer workloads. Power requirements are a bit higher than the 4070 Ti Super as well, with a TGP of 300W compared to 285W on the prior generation. (TGP stands for “Total Graphics Power”, and it’s what Nvidia calls the power of the entire graphics card including all components. AMD uses the term TBP for Total Board Power, which ends up being mostly the same thing with a few minor nuances.) You also get the much disparaged 16-pin power connector, with a 3x 8-pin adapter should you need it. This is the newer 12V-2×6 standard, but even that hasn’t proven 100% reliable with the 50-series cards. The 5070 Ti shouldn’t will have any meltdown issues, considering it’s only rated for 300W. That’s better than the 5090 that seems to be following at least partially in the footsteps of the 4090. Pulling 600W through such a design just seems ill advised, and the lack of more advanced monitoring functions hasn’t helped matters. Nvidia takes a staggered approach to GPU launches every generation, typically starting at the top and working its way down. The 5070 Ti is the third card from the Blackwell series, using the same GB203 GPU as the 5080 but with only 83% of the GPU cores enabled. Building redundancy and the ability to down-bin chips into a GPU design is common practice, so while the 5080 requires a basically perfect chip that’s fully enabled, anything that can’t meet the criteria can potentially be used in a 5070 Ti — and in the future we’ll undoubtedly see some 5070 or even 5060 Ti variants that use “leftover” GB203 chips. Performance on paper may be up to 17% slower than the 5080, give or take, for 25% less money. And for games and tasks that are more memory dependent, the gap may only be 5~10 percent. At lower resolutions and settings, everything starts to become CPU and platform limited, but we don’t think most people buying a $750 to $1,000 GPU are going to want to run such low settings. Let’s check out the Asus RTX 5070 Ti Prime in more detail, before hitting the benchmarks. 14. Turkey to export 15,000 tonnes of eggs to US amid bird flu disruptions Turkey to export 15,000 tonnes of eggs to US amid bird flu disruptions By Ceyda Caglayan ISTANBUL (Reuters) – Turkey has begun exporting around 15,000 tonnes of eggs to the United States, where an ongoing outbreak of bird flu disrupted supply, sent prices soaring and led to talks with other producers, a leading sector official said on Wednesday. Ibrahim Afyon, chairman of the Egg Producers Central Union (YUM-BIR) in Turkey, told Reuters that shipments began this month and will continue until July. Trusted news and daily delights, right in your inbox See for yourself — The Yodel is the go-to source for daily news, entertainment and feel-good stories. “The export will take place through our member companies with the required authorizations, while two firms will coordinate the process,” Afyon said. “A total of 15,000 tonnes of eggs — equivalent to 700 containers — will be shipped.” The U.S. has been working to contain the spread of bird flu, which was first detected in dairy cattle in Texas last March and has since spread to multiple states. The virus has infected nearly 70 people since April, including one fatal case, primarily among farm workers exposed to infected poultry or cattle. An outbreak in poultry that began in 2022 has wiped out about 160 million chickens, turkeys and other birds, contributing to egg shortages. In response, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has granted conditional approval to animal health company Zoetis for the use of a bird flu vaccine in poultry. The agency is also rebuilding a stockpile of vaccines tailored to the current strain affecting commercial flocks and wild birds. Faced with supply constraints, U.S. firms have sought alternative import markets, leading to negotiations with Turkish producers, Afyon said. He said the deal is expected to generate around $26 million in export revenue. Turkey ranks among the world’s top 10 egg exporters, Afyon added. 15. HP buys Humane AI start-up for US$116 Million — halts sales, discontinues Ai Pin support, offers refunds HP buys Humane AI start-up for US$116 Million — halts sales, discontinues Ai Pin support, offers refunds HP announced that it has acquired an AI assist wearable device startup company Humane which developed the now infamous Ai pin device. HP is getting 300 patents and patent applications, some of its employees and other Intellectual property from the deal. HP plans to integrate Humane’s IP and expertise with its existing portfolio of consumer products. However, the Ai Pin devices are not a part of this deal, and from February 28, AI Pin’s cloud software will no longer be available. Humane assured it will be processing refunds for recent purchases, including for its subscription plans. Humane’s founders Imran Chaudri and Bethany Bongiorno who were design and software engineers for Apple Inc. will be forming a new division called ‘HP IQ’ in the company and be responsible for integrating AI in HP printers, PC and other devices. The company mentions its wearable devices will function until 12 PM PST on February 28, 2025, after which its Ai Pin’s cloud-based features will no longer be available. Functions like calling, messaging, cloud access and other AI-enabled assist features will no longer work after the deadline, essentially becoming a bricked device. The company does make an assurance that it will delete the remaining consumer data permanently and hence requests its customers to download any vital data before the deadline. Those who purchased Ai Pin for US$ 700 in the last 90 days are eligible for a refund once a request is made, including those who have purchased subscription plans that amount to US$ 24 a month. The company however has not addressed refunds for those who have purchased at an earlier date- including the early adopters. The acquisition is expected to be completed by the end of this month. Humane Ai was hyped as a wearable Ai-enabled assist device projecting its interface on the user’s hand and any surface to interact. Despite potential applications, a plethora of features and promising ideas, the company alienated many of its consumers with overpriced subscriptions, quality control, glitches and service issues for a device with features that eventually began to appear in smartphones. The company was founded in 2023 and started looking for a buyer in May 2024 with an asking price of up to US$ 1 billion. HP however acquired the company for US$ 116 million. HP does have AI-powered printers and hence it would make sense to acquire Humane for its expertise and patents rather than for its device. Even though the Ai Pin is a flop, absorbing patents, intellectual property and expertise should help catapult HP to achieve its goals. The company doesn’t seem to be having any plans to have a dedicated AI device for the foreseeable future. In a statement to Bloomberg, Tuan Tran, President of Technology and Innovation at HP said, “There will be a time and place for pure AI devices But there is going to be AI in all our devices — that’s how we can help our business customers be more productive.” It will be interesting to see how HP intends to integrate AI with PC and printers with Humane’s IP and personnel. Acquiring a subscription AI wearable device seems fitting for the company as it is known to explore subscriptions but it remains to be seen if it will have any success. 16. The end of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac’s government conservatorship The end of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac’s government conservatorship Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, two pillars of the U.S. mortgage market, are currently controlled by the federal government. Some in Washington, D.C. expect President Trump to push for the end of their conservatorship. “We have a mortgage finance system that works really well on the upside, but is it prepared for a downturn?” said Mark Calabria, former director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency from 2019 to 2021. “While I am optimistic about the overall state of the economy, are we putting the taxpayer at risk?” Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac create financial products that support the mortgage market and reduce risks for investors. These products can influence mortgage rates in the U.S. The two firms were placed into government conservatorship in September 2008 as the global financial crisis mounted. In the aftermath, many borrowers defaulted on their mortgages and risked losing their homes. Between 2007 and 2010, approximately 3.8 million homes were lost to foreclosure according to an estimate from the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago. At the time, the Treasury Department extended $100 billion lines of credit to Fannie and Freddie each in an effort to keep them afloat. The Treasury also initiated sweeps of their profits in an effort to get taxpayers’ bail out money back. “In my mind that was a good decision,” said Moody’s economist Mark Zandi. In the intervening years, Fannie and Freddie paid $301 billion to the Treasury. As the process unfolded, the value of Fannie and Freddie’s stocks plunged to basically nothing. Stock Chart IconStock chart icon Stock performance of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac against the S&P 500 Index from 1980 to 2025. Share prices for the two mortgage market firms plunged dramatically when they entered government conservatorship in 2008. In 2019, the government ended the sweep of Fannie’s and Freddie’s profits, laying the groundwork for the two mortgage giants’ return to private markets. “The number one constraint on us was lack of capital. Fannie and Freddie were leveraged about 1,000-1, which meant they had almost no capital,” said Calabria. Both firms are today known as government-sponsored enterprises, or GSEs. Fannie Mae was chartered as a government agency in 1938 and became a private entity in 1968. Freddie Mac was created as a private company by an act of Congress in 1970. Mark Zandi estimates that without an explicit or implicit government backstop of the mortgage giants, mortgage rates could rise by by 60 to 90 basis points. Proponents of privatization like Calabria say it wouldn’t raise rates, and could even make them go down. 18. A ‘sensible’ 4K powerhouse for $749 A ‘sensible’ 4K powerhouse for $749 It’s honestly difficult to remember the simpler days of video card shopping, before crypto fanatics, supply chain issues and pandemic demand pushed GPUs far beyond rising manufacturer prices. Ideally, I’d like to tell you that NVIDIA’s $549 RTX 5070 and $749 RTX 5070 Ti are more reasonable alternatives to the $2,000 RTX 5090 and $1,000 5080. But card makers and retailers have already pushed RTX 5070 prices far beyond those MSRPs. Our review unit, the ASUS 5070 Ti Prime, is currently selling for $900 at Best Buy and $750 at Newegg (we’ll see how long that lasts). And of course, it’s out of stock at both stores. While I can’t guarantee the actual cost for any RTX 5070 Ti card, I can say this: they’ll definitely be solid 4K performers for far less than the RTX 5080 and 5090. But if you’re not desperate for an upgrade, it’s worth waiting a few months for inventory and prices to stabilize. ASUS NVIDIA’s RTX 5070 Ti is a capable GPU for 4K gaming, mostly thanks to DLSS 4. It’s a solid upgrade for gamers looking for a bit more power and memory than the 5070. Pros Solid 4K performance DLSS 4 multi-frame gen makes a huge difference Cool under load Cons Prices fluctuate wildly Stock is a major problem $750 is still a lot for a mid-range GPU $900 at Best Buy Hardware Based on its specs and (hopeful) pricing, the RTX 5070 Ti currently offers the best balance between performance and value in NVIDIA’s lineup. It features 8,960 CUDA cores and 16GB of GDDR7 VRAM, well below the 5080’s 10,752 CUDA cores, but at least those cards have the same amount of memory. The cheaper 5070 comes with just 12GB of VRAM, which could be a problem when gaming in 4K. Our ASUS 5070 Ti card is fairly nondescript, with three fans, a plastic frame and a standard heatsink design. You can choose between performance and quiet BIOS modes, which only changes how aggressive the fans are. Its 2.5-slot design makes it tiny enough for small form-factor cases, though I noticed it was actually slightly larger than the RTX 5090 Founders card. RTX 5090 RTX 5080 RTX 5070 Ti RTX 5070 RTX 4090 Architecture Blackwell Blackwell Blackwell Blackwell Lovelace CUDA cores 21,760 10,752 8,960 6,144 16,384 AI TOPS 3,352 1,801 1,406 988 1,321 Tensor cores 5th Gen 5th Gen 5th Gen 5th Gen 4th Gen RT cores 4th Gen 4th Gen 4th Gen 4th Gen 3rd Gen VRAM 32 GB GDDR7 16 GB GDDR7 16 GB GDDR7 12 GB GDDR7 24 GB GDDR6X Memory bandwidth 1,792 GB/sec 960 GB/sec 896 GB/sec 672 GB/sec 1,008 GB/sec TGP 575W 360W 300W 250W 450W The 5070 Ti could also easily fit into more gaming rigs without requiring a power supply upgrade. It has a peak power draw of 300 watts, compared to the 5080’s 360W and the 5090’s whopping 575W. That means the 5070 Ti should be able to run comfortably with an 850W PSU, without needing to make the leap to a massive 1,000W unit. Devindra Hardawar for Engadget What really makes this GPU special, though, is that it fully supports multi-frame generation in DLSS 4, NVIDIA’s AI upscaling technology. That allows the GPU to generate up to 3 frames with AI for every frame rendered in real-time. It also lets NVIDIA claim that the 5070 can match the speeds of the $1,599 RTX 4090. While you could argue those frames are just “fake” to make benchmarks look better, my time with the RTX 5070 Ti and 5090 has shown that they do lead to a smoother gameplay experience. On top of multi-frame generation, other DLSS 4 features are also trickling down to earlier NVIDIA cards. As I noted in my 5090 review, “RTX 40 cards will be more efficient with their single-frame generation, while RTX 30 and 20 cards will also see an upgrade from AI transformer models used for ray reconstruction (leading to more stable ray tracing), Super Resolution (higher quality textures) and Deep Learning Anti-Aliasing (DLAA).” Devindra Hardawar for Engadget In use: A capable 4K gaming GPU First things first: The RTX 5070 Ti is only slightly faster than the 4070 and 4070 Ti in most benchmarks. The new card is 17 percent ahead of the 4070 Ti in the 3DMark Timespy Extreme test, and 21 percent faster than the 4070 Ti Super in Speedway bench. The difference is even smaller in raw computing and rendering tasks: The 5070 Ti scored a mere 8 percent more than the 4070 Ti in the Geekbench 6 GPU benchmark. None 3DMark TimeSpy Extreme Geekbench 6 GPU Cyberpunk (4K RT Overdrive DLSS) Blender NVIDIA RTX 5070 Ti 12,675 238,417 153fps (4X frame gen) 7,365 NVIDIA RTX 5090 19,525 358,253 246fps (4X frame gen) 14,903 NVIDIA RTX 4070 Ti Super 11,366 220,722 75fps (1x frame gen) 7,342 NVIDIA RTX 4070 8,610 N/A 45fps (1x frame gen) 6,020 But, of course, actual gaming performance matters more than benchmarks. And if you’re playing something with support for DLSS 4, you’ll certainly notice some improvements. Dragon Age: The Veilguard held a steady 200fps in 4K with 4X multi-frame generation, ray tracing and graphics settings maxed out, On the 4070 Ti, I typically saw between 90fps and 100fps with those same graphics settings and DLSS 3.5’s single frame generation. Now, I can’t actually say the game looked twice as smooth on my Alienware 32-inch QD-OLED monitor, but it definitely looked silky over the hours I’ve tested. There weren’t any weird upscaling artifacts, those frames felt real. It’s also worth noting the RTX 5090 clocked 240fps in Dragon Age with the same graphics settings. Perhaps my CPU held it back a bit (I’m running a Ryzen 9 7900X), but the 5070 Ti’s performance was still remarkably close while being a much cheaper GPU. Cyberpunk 2077 also played like a dream in 4K in ray tracing overdrive mode with multi-frame gen, reaching 150fps on average. That’s well below the 5090’s stunning 250fps figure, but it’s still impressive for a game that used to bring powerful rigs to their knees. Cyberpunk also hit 230fps in 1,440p with those same settings, which also upscales beautifully to 4K screens. For games without DLSS 4, like Halo Infinite, the 5070 Ti was still a solid performer, reaching an average of 140fps with maxed-out graphics and ray tracing. In comparison, the 5090 hit 180fps on average. Even if you’re lucky enough to have a 240Hz 4K monitor, I’d bet even demanding gamers would be just fine with the 5070 Ti’s speeds. But if you care more about framerates than resolution, it’ll still have you covered. I saw 220fps in Halo Infinite in 1,440p, and 320fps in 1080p. The ASUS 5070 Ti typically idled between 30C and 35C, and it quickly reached up to 65C under load. Its fan array isn’t as sophisticated as the 5090 Founder’s card, but it still managed to cool down the card below 40C in around 15 seconds. Devindra Hardawar for Engadget Should you buy the RTX 5070 Ti? Simply put, the RTX 5070 Ti handled just about everything I threw at it, and I didn’t find myself missing the 5090 too much (aside from bragging rights). Unfortunately, I haven’t had a chance to test the RTX 5080, but given its high cost, it’s still something I’d have trouble recommending to anyone. The real question for gamers right now is: Do you need the RTX 5070 Ti’s 16GB of VRAM and higher CUDA count? If you’re aiming to play in 4K most of the time, it’ll be worth having more than just the 5070’s 12GB of RAM. Games are becoming more complex every year, so it likely won’t be long before you’ll actually need 16GB of VRAM to play 4K games comfortably. But if you’re living the 1,440p life, then 12GB will likely be enough for years to come. DLSS 4’s multi-frame gen is the biggest draw for NVIDIA’s 50-series cards, and it’s mostly useful for 4K gaming. So if you’re happy with your 40-series GPU and don’t need to push a 4K 240Hz monitor to its limit, there’s not much reason to upgrade. For 30- and 20-series owners though, your patience will be rewarded. As I mentioned before, it’s still worth waiting a few months to see how prices settle. If you’re lucky enough to score the RTX 5070 Ti for $750, go for it. But it’s far less compelling at $900 or above. At that point, you’re just way too close to the 5090’s $1,000 MSRP. We’re still waiting to see how AMD’s upcoming RDNA 4 Radeon 9070 and 9070 XT GPUs will perform, but they’re being positioned as direct competitors to the 5070 and 5070 Ti. AMD finally has DLSS-like AI-powered upscaling coming this year, so the difference between its cards and NVIDIA’s may be slimmer than usual. But NVIDIA also has a dramatic head start, and it’ll likely take a while for AMD’s Fluid Motion Frames technology to catch up on multi-frame generation. Devindra Hardawar for Engadget Wrap-up: A great 4K card… if you can get it close to $750 The RTX 5070 Ti won me over in ways I didn’t expect. I knew it would be a tad faster than the 4070 Ti Super, but with the addition of multi-frame generation, it’s also a far more capable 4K card. And it’s definitely more future-proof than the 5070, since it has 16GB of VRAM like the 5090. While I think the $549 5070 remains the most intriguing entry of NVIDIA’s new family, it’s nice to see that there’s something for sensible enthusiasts between that and the $1,000 5090. And yes, it’s still strange to call a $750 video card “sensible.” Source link #powerhouse Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content] For verified travel tips and real support, visit: [Hidden Content]
  19. Michael Saylor’s Big Bet on Bitcoin Is Inspiring Copycat CEOs Michael Saylor’s Big Bet on Bitcoin Is Inspiring Copycat CEOs (Bloomberg) — Investors had pretty much written off Jonathan Ferrari’s fledging meal-delivery company. Most Read from Bloomberg His startup, Goodfood Market Corp., had lost 98% of of its value from a Covid-era high, and was a mere penny stock in the cut-throat business of food delivery. So this year, Ferrari hatched a new plan that he is convinced will turn Goodfood’s stock around: Buy Bitcoin. “We have a nice core business but it’s too small to be relevant to the capital markets,” Ferrari, 36, said. “I think as we start investing more into our Bitcoin treasury strategy we’ll be able to create more liquidity in our stock and attract investors.” Goodfood is one of the dozens of public companies — including a social-media company, a video game developer and a coal mining firm — that have been following in the footsteps of Michael Saylor’s Strategy by using corporate cash, and in some cases borrowed money, to buy Bitcoin. Even the board of Trump Media & Technology Group Corp. decided last month to allocate some of its cash to cryptocurrency investments. While there’s nothing ******** about the practice, the purchases do raise questions about whether public companies should be in the business of speculative investing, given that the tokens generally become a part of their treasury holdings, which are usually reserved for cash and ultra-safe equivalents. There is also the matter of what happens to the underlying businesses, which often have nothing to do with Bitcoin, if the value of the token crashes yet again. “If you buy things with debt and the price of those things go down and your debt comes due, you have a problem,” said Austin Campbell, a cryptocurrency consultant and former Wall Street trader who is an adjunct professor at NYU Stern School of Business. Yet those sorts of concerns get pushed aside in the fads that periodically sweep the corporate world during moments of tech euphoria. There were the companies that added dot.com to their name in the late 90s, and the more recent trend of executives rushing to talk about artificial intelligence during earnings calls. In this case, though, the Bitcoin buyers are putting corporate funds on the line. Ferrari started with $1 million of Bitcoin last month and he is planning to spend a “significant” amount of Goodfood’s remaining cash — and any future cash flows — on additional purchases. Story Continues The Bitcoin-buying tactic has caught fire as the price of the original cryptocurrency has taken off over the past year, leading Donald Trump to talk about even the US government creating its own strategic Bitcoin reserve. The new additions to the crypto landscape are generally taking inspiration from Saylor, the chairman of Strategy — or MicroStrategy Inc. as it used to be known. While the company’s old software business has been limping along, the stock has become a darling of retail and institutional investors due to Saylor’s decision to plow the company’s cash — and more recently the proceeds from stock and bond sales — into Bitcoin. Strategy said on Tuesday it plans to offer another $2 billion of convertible debt in a private offering, extending the self-styled Bitcoin treasury company’s unconventional fundraising strategy. Strategy’s stock has gone up even faster than the price of Bitcoin over the past year and the company is now worth almost twice as much as its roughly $45 billion in cryptocurrency holdings. Some of Saylor’s proteges have done even better. Metaplanet, which has styled itself as a Japanese version of Strategy, has been one of the best performing stocks in the world since it sold most of its hotel holdings and plunged all the money into Bitcoin last year, and then borrowed money to buy more. (Its lone hotel in Tokyo is being rebranded as “The Bitcoin Hotel.”) The most recent sign of Saylor’s success came when the CEO of GameStop Corp, Ryan Cohen, posted a picture of himself with Saylor on social media. The post led GameStop’s stock to shoot up as Cohen’s followers speculated that the retailer would become the latest public company to buy Bitcoin. Some of the current Strategy imitators have followed Saylor’s risky tactic of borrowing money to buy Bitcoin. Semler Scientific, Inc., a medical testing company, borrowed $85 million last month to fund its own purchases and add to the tens of millions of dollars it bought with cash last year. The move has worked for Semler so far, as its stock has more than doubled since it began buying. Yet some analysts worry about how sustainable the strategy will prove to be. First, there are questions about what happens to a company’s ability to pay back the money it borrowed if the price of Bitcoin goes down. And even for smaller companies that aren’t taking on debt, there is the worry that the attention boost from buying Bitcoin will diminish as more companies do the same. For Goodfood, the company’s stock initially rose slightly before slumping after it made its first purchases. “With the Bitcoin ETF and MicroStrategy already existing, the actual long-term utility of other people doing this is very low,” said Campbell, the adjunct NYU Stern professor. For now, with the original digital token holding near its all-time high, the tactic that Saylor initiated in 2020 has continued to remain attractive. While there is no official way of tracking the practice, one public list counts 66 publicly-listed companies — and another 12 private ones — around the world that have bought Bitcoin, many of which had nothing to do with Bitcoin, or investing of any sort, previously. The manager of a $25 million hedge fund, TMR Capital, is about to embark on a letter-writing campaign to encourage dozens of micro-cap companies to follow the MicroStrategy playbook. Ted Rosenthal, the founder of TMR, said he thinks the tactic can give small stocks a huge boost of attention, and he is offering to pool capital to inject more money into the shares of companies that give it a try. “Bitcoin is a way to get attention very quickly,” Rosenthal said. “There’s probably no other way to get your stock up 20-times in a year.” This is not the conventional corporate strategy of yore that focused on building sustainable long-term businesses. To Eric Semler, the CEO of Semler Scientific, the risks are worth it because the new holdings give the company access to a wider pool of potential investors. The convertible bonds issued by Semler and Strategy — along with a handful of Bitcoin mining companies — have made them attractive to hedge funds looking to employ a form of arbitrage that allows them to capitalize on the volatility of Bitcoin. Other large investors that are restricted from purchasing Bitcoin directly — even through ETFs — are using stocks like Semler and Goodfood as an indirect way to get exposure to the asset class. Meanwhile, message boards are filled with day-trading crypto aficionados advertising their desire to invest in and support companies with Bitcoin holdings. Then there is the sheer persuasive power — and attractive returns — of Strategy’s Saylor, who has become a promoter of the practice, and a mentor to many of the executives jumping on board. “Our board didn’t have a lot of experience of or understanding of Bitcoin,” said Eric Semler. Saylor, who got on the phone with Semler, won him and the board over. “He is such a strong believer in the merit of what he is doing,” he said. “And he wanted others to follow him and help Bitcoin.” Most Read from Bloomberg Businessweek ©2025 Bloomberg L.P. 21. ARM and Meta: Plotting a path to dilute GPU capacity ARM and Meta: Plotting a path to dilute GPU capacity News that ARM is embarking on developing its own datacentre processors for Meta, as reported in the Financial Times, is indicative of the chip designer’s move to capitalise on the tech industry’s appetite for affordable, energy-efficient artificial intelligence (AI). Hyperscalers and social media giants such as Meta use vast arrays of expensive graphics processing units (GPUs) to run workloads that require AI acceleration. But along with the cost, GPUs tend to use a lot of energy and require investment in liquid cooling infrastructure. Meta sees AI as a strategic technology initiative that spans its platforms, including Facebook, Instagram and WhatApp. CEO Mark Zuckerberg is positioning Meta AI as the artificial intelligence everyone will use. In the company’s latest earnings call, he said: “In AI, I expect this is going to be the year when a highly intelligent and personalised AI assistant reaches more than one billion people, and I expect Meta AI to be that leading AI assistant.” To reach this volume of people, the company has been working to scale its AI infrastructure and plans to migrate from GPU-based AI acceleration to custom silicon chips, optimised for its workloads and datacentres. During the earnings call, Meta chief financial officer Susan Li said the company was “very invested in developing our own custom silicon for unique workloads, where off-the-shelf silicon isn’t necessarily optimal”. In 2023, the company began a long-term venture called Meta Training and Inference Accelerator (MTIA) to provide the most efficient architecture for its unique workloads. Li said Meta began adopting MTIA in the first half of 2024 for core ranking and recommendations inference. “We’ll continue ramping adoption for those workloads over the course of 2025 as we use it for both incremental capacity and to replace some GPU-based servers when they reach the end of their useful lives,” she added. “Next year, we’re hoping to expand MTIA to support some of our core AI training workloads, and over time some of our GenAI [generative AI] use cases.” Driving efficiency and total cost of ownership Meta has previously said efficiency is one of the most important factors for deploying MTIA in its datacentres. This is measured in performance-per-watt metric (TFLOPS/W), which it said is a key component of the total cost of ownership. The MTIA chip is fitted to an Open Compute Platform (OCP) plug-in module, which consumes about 35W. But the MTIA architecture requires a central processing unit (CPU) together with memory and chips for connectivity. The reported work it is doing with ARM could help the company move from the highly customised application-specific integrated circuits (ASICs) it developed for its first generation chip, MTIA 1, to a next-generation architecture based on general-purpose ARM processor cores. Looking at ARM’s latest earnings, the company is positioning itself to offer AI that can scale power efficiently. ARM has previously partnered with Nvidia to deliver power-efficient AI in the Nvidia Blackwell Grace architecture. At the Consumer Electronics Show in January, Nvidia unveiled the ARM-based GB10 Grace Blackwell Superchip, which it claimed offers a petaflop of AI computing performance for prototyping, fine-tuning and running large AI models. The chip uses an ARM processor with Nvidia’s Blackwell accelerator to improve the performance of AI workloads. The semiconductor industry offers system on a chip (SoC) devices, where various computer building blocks are integrated into a single chip. Grace Blackwell is an example of an SoC. Given the work Meta has been doing to develop its MTIA chip, the company may well be exploring how it can work with ARM to integrate its own technology with the ARM CPU on a single device. Although an SoC is more complex from a chip fabrication perspective, the economies of scale when production is ramped up, and the fact that the device can integrate several external components into one package, make it considerably more cost-effective for system builders. Li’s remarks on replacing GPU servers and the goal of MTIA to reduce Meta’s total cost of ownership for AI correlate with the reported deal with ARM, which would potentially enable it to scale up AI cost effectively and reduce its reliance on GPU-based AI acceleration. Boosting ARM’s AI credentials ARM, which is a SoftBank company, recently found itself at the core of the Trump administration’s Stargate Project, a SoftBank-backed initiative to deploy sovereign AI capabilities in the US. During the earnings call for ARM’s latest quarterly results, CEO Rene Haas described Stargate as “an extremely significant infrastructure project”, adding: “We are extremely excited to be the CPU of choice for such a platform combined with the Blackwell CPU with [ARM-based] Grace. Going forward, there’ll be huge potential for technology innovation around that space.” Haas also spoke about the Cristal intelligence collaboration with OpenAI, which he said enables AI agents to move across every node of the hardware ecosystem. “If you think about the smallest devices, such as earbuds, all the way to the datacentre, this is really about agents increasingly being the interface and/or the driver of everything that drives AI inside the device,” he added. 22. Palo Alto Networks Uptrend Will Continue: AI Is Good for Business Palo Alto Networks Uptrend Will Continue: AI Is Good for Business Palo Alto Networks (NASDAQ:) FQ2 results weren’t the inflection point the analysts had hoped for, but the uptrend will continue because AI is good for business. To paraphrase CEO Nikesh Arora, AI and advancing digital technologies are good for cybersecurity businesses because with each advancement comes the need for increased and advancing security. The takeaway from the report isn’t that results weren’t dazzling but that the platformization continues to drive growth, margins are improving, and outperformance was posted. Likewise, the guidance wasn’t mind-blowing but included increased expectations for revenue and earnings that have analysts raising their stock price targets. The analysts’ response is slightly tepid due to a few reiterated ratings and price targets, but it aligns with the bullish trend. Over half of the half-dozen revisions tracked by MarketBeat within the first few days of the release include increased price targets leading to the high-end range. That puts the stock up another 20% in 2025, and the positive revision cycle will likely continue. Palo Alto is sustaining its business momentum; there is no reason to think it will cease. Management’s proactive lean into AI has it on target to meet long-term goals and gain share, and there are opportunities for diversification into new security areas. Palo Alto Delivers Beat and Raise Quarter Palo Alto’s weren’t a blowout, but the $2.26 billion is up 14.1%, sustaining a solid double-digit CAGR, and outperformed consensus with the bar set high. The fact the company outperformed at all is a sign of strength. Strength was driven by Next Gen security features, which grew by 37,% and future quarters will likely be as strong in this segment. RPO, an indicator of future revenue, is up more than 20% systemwide. Margin news is another area of strength. The company managed to control its costs and spending and widened its operating margin significantly. Net operating income is up a leveraged 20% for the quarter and is also expected to remain strong in 2025. Regarding the guidance, the company increased its forecasts for Q3 and the year, raising the full-year EPS target to a range above the consensus forecast. The only bad news is that some estimates had expected more. Regardless, the growth outlook is sufficient to sustain the cash flow and capital return outlook, which is improving. Palo Alto Networks buys back shares but not in sufficient quantity to provide a strong tailwind for the stock price. However, the balance sheet highlights suggest that the dynamic could change with assets rising, liabilities falling, and equity increasing by 20%. Leverage is also very low, with a total liability of about 2.3X equity and less than 0.75X assets, leaving it in a healthy financial position to invest in growth or acquisitions. Institutions Bought the January Dip in Palo Alto Networks The institutions are buying sufficient quantities of PANW stock to create a market tailwind. The activity is mixed for the 12 months leading up to the Q2 release, but a notable spike in Q1 2025 aligns with the January post-stock-split price dip. The institutions bought $28 billion of shares, about 20% of the market cap, and lifted their ownership to nearly 80%. With this in play, PANW shares may not move higher in 2025 but are highly unlikely to move lower. The price action in PANW is bullish following the release. The market slipped on the initial announcement but quickly regained traction, lifting the market to a two-month high by the end of the session. The signal confirms support at the 30-day moving average and the uptrend. The critical resistance is at the current all-time high and may be broken soon because the indicators are set up for a bullish market swing. 23. Trump suggests 25% tariffs on autos, pharma and semiconductors that could go even higher Trump suggests 25% tariffs on autos, pharma and semiconductors that could go even higher U.S. President Donald Trump speaks at Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, Florida, U.S., Feb. 18, 2025. Kevin Lamarque | Reuters President Donald Trump said he may broaden the scope of U.S. tariffs on imports to include automobiles, pharmaceuticals and semiconductors. In remarks to reporters Tuesday, Trump said the duties would be around 25% and “go very substantially higher over a course of a year.” The president did not indicate whether the new tariffs would apply to all vehicles coming into the U.S. or be targeted toward certain countries but said they could start as early as April 2. However, the threat represents a broadening in the administration’s aggressive trade policy that already has included 25% tariffs on steel and aluminum imports set to take effect in March. The nations with the biggest auto exports to the U.S. are Mexico, Japan and Canada. Trump said the tariffs already are having the desired effect, with companies domiciled overseas wanting to come back to the U.S. “I’ve been contacted by some of the biggest companies in the world, and because of what we’re doing economically and through tariffs and incentives, they want to come back into the United States,” he said. “When they come back into the United States and they have their plant or factory here, there is no tariff,” Trump added. So we want to give them a little bit of a chance.” On pharmaceuticals, the nation feeling the biggest impact likely would be Japan and India. The economic impact would be unclear, though the tariffs might aggravate costs and cause shortages initially. “The tariffs could drive up drug prices for US patients, exacerbate drug supply shortages, and push manufacturers to seek alternative markets,” said Ophelia Chan, senior business fundamentals analyst at GlobalData. Chan also noted that companies in the industry “may respond by relocating manufacturing and trials to the US or other tariff-free countries, though the full effects are still uncertain.” On semiconductors, Trump did not indicate when they would happen. Those levies would impact Taiwan Semiconductor, which provides chips to companies including Nvidia and Apple. Dutch Bros CEO Christine Barone commented, “Our efforts to develop our foundational transaction drivers – innovation, paid media, and our Dutch Rewards loyalty program – are working. We believe these efforts are contributing to the current momentum and that there is a considerable runway for further growth. Additionally, we see a clear path forward with multi-year transaction driving initiatives that layer on top of this foundation with the opportunity to unlock throughput and ramp mobile order in 2025.” BROS Stock Forms a Daily Bull Flag Breakout A bull flag pattern is comprised of two parts. First, the underlying stock forms the flagpole, which is a steep run-up in the stock price, usually at a 45-degree or higher angle. The flagpole completes when the stock forms its peak. The flag is formed on the parallel descending trendlines comprised of lower highs and lower lows. The bull flag triggers when the stock surges through its upper descending trendline and past the peak of the flagpole. The solid Q4 earnings caused BROS stock to surge 29% the following morning as it peaked at an all-time high of $86.42 before pulling back. The daily bull flag triggered the gap surging through the upper trendline resistance at $64.98, which is also a lower gap fill level. The anchored VWAP support is slowly rising at $63.23. The daily RSI is in overbought territory above the 70-band at 79.91. Fibonacci (Fib) pullback support levels are at $73.87, $68.92, $61.96, and $57.01. BROS stock’s average consensus price target is 8.91% lower at $74.83, and its highest analyst price target sits at $100.00. It has 13 analysts’ Buy ratings and one Hold rating. The stock has a 6.47% short interest. BROS stock is trading above its consensus price target, so it’s prudent not to chase the stock but patiently await pullbacks. Bullish investors can consider using cash-secured puts at the Fib pullback support levels to buy the dip. If assigned the shares, writing covered calls at upside Fib levels executes a wheel strategy for income.
