Israel mourns Bibas family as ****** signals breakthrough on hostages
Israel mourns Bibas family as ****** signals breakthrough on hostages
By Rami Amichay and Nafisa Eltahir
RISHON LEZION, Israel/CAIRO (Reuters) -Israelis mourned the family that symbolised the trauma their country suffered in the ******-led attack of October 7, 2023, as the ************ militant group agreed to free the last hostage bodies included in the first phase of the Gaza ceasefire.
****** said the bodies of Tsachi Idan, Itzhak Elgarat, Ohad Yahalomi and Shlomo Mantzur would be released on Wednesday night and added that a hospital in Gaza was preparing to receive ************ prisoners who would be released in exchange.

See for yourself — The Yodel is the go-to source for daily news, entertainment and feel-good stories.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s office said an agreement was reached for the handover of bodies of four deceased hostages but it did not name them.
The resolution came on the same day as the ******** of the Bibas family following the handover of the bodies of nine-month-old Kfir Bibas, his four-year-old brother Ariel and their mother Shiri last week.
The youngest hostages seized during the attack on Israel by ****** on October 7, 2023 were killed weeks after they were abducted into the Gaza Strip.
Israel says it has intelligence and forensic evidence that shows the boys and their mother were killed by their captors using their bare hands. ****** said they were killed in an Israeli airstrike.
Thousands of people, some in tears, carrying blue and white Israeli flags or photographs of the family, walked in procession or waited as a convoy bearing the coffins drove past. Many were carrying orange balloons, a symbol of mourning for the hostages, matching the red hair of the two Bibas boys.
“It’s still not really registering,” said Tal Ben-Shimon, a who joined mourners at what has come to be known as Hostages Square in Tel Aviv. “They kind of represent all the families, the very young families, who were slaughtered on that day.”
Yarden Bibas, the father of the boys, who was captured separately from his family and released earlier this month, paid tribute in an emotional eulogy at their ********.
“I hope you know I thought about you every day, every minute,” he said in an address carried live on Israeli television.
For Israelis, the Bibas family has become an emblem of the trauma that has haunted their country since the ******-led attack on communities in southern Israel in which 1,200 people were killed and 251 were taken back to Gaza as hostages.
Israel’s air and ground war in Gaza in response has killed more than 48,000 Palestinians and destroyed most of the coastal enclave, but fighting has stopped since the fragile ceasefire agreement brokered by Egyptian and Qatari mediators last month.
Under the deal, ****** agreed to hand over 33 Israeli hostages in exchange for some 2,000 ************ prisoners and detainees and the withdrawal of Israeli troops from some of their positions in Gaza as well as an influx of aid.
BREAKTHROUGH SECURED
On Wednesday, Egyptian mediators confirmed they had secured a breakthrough that should allow the handover of the final four hostage bodies due in the first phase of the deal this week after a days-long impasse.
****** confirmed that an agreement had been reached for the exchange of hostages for prisoners, that would be conducted under a new mechanism.
It said the European Hospital in Gaza’s Khan Younis was preparing to receive released prisoners as early as Wednesday night. The Israeli Prison Service said it had received the list of prisoners and detainees and that preparations were under way for their release.
An Israeli official said the bodies of the hostages were expected to be handed over around 2300 (2100GMT). Netanyahu’s office said their release would not include a ****** ceremony.
The ******-staged ceremonies in which living hostages and coffins carrying hostage remains have been displayed on stage before a crowd in Gaza have drawn increasing criticism, including from the United Nations.
Israel had refused to release more than 600 ************ prisoners and detainees on Saturday after ****** handed over six living hostages in such a ceremony.
Days earlier, the agreement was held up when ****** handed over the remains of an unidentified woman instead of Shiri Bibas before delivering the correct body the next day.
With the 42-day truce due to expire on Saturday, it remains unclear whether an extension will be agreed or whether negotiations can begin on a second stage of the deal, which would see the release of the remaining 59 hostages in Gaza.
Despite numerous hiccups, the ceasefire deal has held. But moving to a second phase would require agreements on issues that have proved impossible to bridge so far, including the postwar future of Gaza and ******, which Israel has vowed to eliminate as a governing force.
****** said that it has not received any proposals so far.

Ukraine needs US security guarantee to deter Putin
Ukraine needs US security guarantee to deter Putin
Chris MasonReporting fromTravelling with the prime ministerAlice Thompson
Senior political producer
EPA
Sir Keir Starmer has reiterated his call for a US security guarantee in Ukraine to deter Vladimir Putin from invading again, as he prepares to meet Donald Trump.
Speaking on the plane to Washington DC, Sir Keir said he hopes the ***-US relationship could go from “strength to strength”
But the two leaders appear to be at odds over the importance of US security guarantees for Ukraine as part of any peace deal there.
Sir Keir said discussions about potentially sending British troops to Ukraine were ongoing but he re-emphasised his belief in the importance of a so-called US “backstop”.
Asked what form he believed this backstop should take, he said: “Exactly what the configuration of that is, exactly what the backstop is, is obviously the subject of intense discussion but I’m not going to get ahead of myself on it, other than to say I’m very clear about what the principles are.”
In contrast, Trump has said: “I’m not going to make security guarantees beyond very much.
“We’re going to have Europe do that, because we’re talking about Europe as the next door neighbour.”
The president did add that the expected deal between Washington and Kyiv over access to Ukrainian minerals was “great” for Ukraine “because they get us over there.”
“We will be on the land and that way there is going to be automatic security because nobody is going to be messing around with our people.”
It is not yet known how much security support European leaders are asking for from America, nor is the scale of any American manpower on the ground in Ukraine associated with a minerals deal.
The prime minister said: “I’m considering how we preserve peace in Europe and how we get a lasting peace in Ukraine.
“And I’m absolutely convinced that we need a lasting peace, not a ceasefire, and for that to happen we need security guarantees.
“Precisely what that layers up to, what that looks like, is obviously a subject of intense discussion. We will play our part and I’ve been clear that we will need a US backstop of some sort.
“My concern is if there is a ceasefire without a backstop, it will simply give him [Putin] the opportunity to wait and to come again because his ambition in relation to Ukraine is pretty obvious, I think, for all to see.”
After the visit from Sir Keir, Trump will host Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
Zelensky has said the deal on minerals is preliminary and that he still wants further agreements, arguing that without security guarantees from the US “we won’t have a ceasefire, nothing will work.”
Foreign Secretary David Lammy, speaking to ITV’s Peston programme, sounded hopeful about America’s proposed deal.
“If US interests are on the ground in Ukraine, then that is the best security guarantee that the Ukrainians can have. So, I do hope they get that deal over the line in the next few days,” he said.
Sir Keir was notably guarded in his remarks in advance of Thursday’s meetings in the White House, such are the stakes and sensitivities around Ukraine, the Middle East and trade with America since Trump’s inauguration.
Strengthening and deepening the US-*** relationship might be his ambition, but it is far from guaranteed with such an unpredictable president.
But asked if he could trust Trump, given what he had said in recent weeks, the prime minister replied: “Yes, I’ve got a good relationship with him.
“As you know, I’ve met him, I’ve spoken to him on the phone, and this relationship between our two countries is a special relationship with a long history, forged as we fought wars together, as we traded together.
“And as I say, I want it to go from strength to strength.”
Does he think President Trump sees Russia as the aggressor in Ukraine?
“Of course, the president has been very clear about the peace that he wants – he’s right about that.
“We all want peace – the question is, how do we make sure it’s a lasting peace.”
“There’s no issue between us on this,” Sir Keir insisted.
Earlier this week, the prime minister announced the *** would boost military spending to 2.5% of national income by 2027, a move seen as an attempt to curry favour with the US president who has frequently attack European countries for failing to spend more on defence.
The increase is being funded by a cut to the foreign aid budget which has angered international development charities and some of the prime minister’s own MPs.
In addition to the Ukraine war, talks are also expected to take in a discussion about artificial intelligence.
Downing Street wants what it calls “further integration” between the two countries’ technology sectors.
The potential flashpoints for Sir Keir are numerous and considerable – it is a landmark moment in his first year as prime minister.

Batting great David Boon to join Cricket Australia board
Test and one-day international batting great David Boon has been appointed to the Cricket Australia board.
Tasmanian Boon, whose 7422 runs in 107 Tests included 21 centuries, will join the CA board on March 28 to fill the vacancy left by Paul Green.
After a six-year stint as Cricket Tasmania’s representative on the CA board, Green has stepped down.
CA chairman Mike Baird said Boon, who also scored 5964 runs in 181 one-day internationals, would bring “vast experience as a player and cricket administrator” to the board.

“David is an iconic figure in *********** cricket universally respected for his accomplishments on the field and, more recently, through his impressive contribution to Tasmanian, *********** and international cricket,” Baird said of Boon, who has been a Cricket Tasmania director since 2014 and chairman since 2022.
Boon was also a national selector from 2000 and 2011, and an ICC match referee – a role he will relinquish – for the past 14 years.
“David has continued to gain first-hand insights into international cricket in his role as an ICC match referee and this will be invaluable as we negotiate the game’s rapidly changing landscape,” Baird said.
Baird also thanked Green for his work as a CA director, which included a “vital contribution” as the board’s audit and risk committee chairman.

Nvidia sells $11 billion of next-gen Blackwell AI chips in ‘fastest product ramp in our company’s history’
Nvidia sells $11 billion of next-gen Blackwell AI chips in ‘fastest product ramp in our company’s history’
Nvidia (NVDA) said Wednesday that its latest Blackwell AI chips have reached full-scale production, generating $11 billion in revenue during its fourth quarter.
“We delivered $11.0 billion of Blackwell architecture revenue in the fourth quarter of fiscal 2025, the fastest product ramp in our company’s history,” said Nvidia CFO Colette Kress in comments released with the chipmaker’s earnings results Wednesday after the bell.
“Blackwell sales were led by large cloud service providers which represented approximately 50% of our Data Center revenue.”
Nvidia’s fourth quarter earnings surpassed Wall Street’s high expectations.
The chipmaker reported revenue of $39.3 billion, beating Wall Street’s estimate of $38.2 billion, with data center revenue reaching $35.6 billion, ahead of the $34.1 billion expected, according to Bloomberg consensus estimates. The AI chipmaker reported adjusted earnings per share of $0.89, more than the $0.84 expected.

CEO Jensen Huang said in a separate statement: “We’ve successfully ramped up the massive-scale production of Blackwell AI supercomputers, achieving billions of dollars in sales in its first quarter.”
The commentary dispelled fears of further Blackwell delays. Production of massive server racks using the latest AI chips had been pushed back amid reports of overheating issues and glitches, which reportedly prompted Nvidia’s top customers — Microsoft (MSFT), Amazon (AMZN), Google (GOOG), and Meta (META) — to cut orders of Blackwell products. Those four customers alone purchased an estimated $44 billion worth of Nvidia GPUs in the 2024 calendar year, according to a DA Davidson analysis.
Evercore ISI analyst Mark Lipacis had suggested in a note earlier this week that Blackwell production could be pushed back to the middle of 2025. Nvidia’s commentary Wednesday addressed such concerns.
“Based on the Q4 numbers and the guidance, it seems like demand for Blackwell…is very, very strong, and one can assume is coming from the hyperscalers,” Ali Mogharabi, senior equity analyst at WestEnd Capital Management, told Yahoo Finance in an interview after the earnings report.
On the company’s earnings call, Kress added that sales to hyperscalers doubled year-over-year, adding: “Large CSPs [cloud service providers] were among the first to stand up Blackwell, with Azure, GCP [Google Cloud Products], AWS, and OCI [Oracle Cloud Infrastructure] bringing 200 [Blackwell] systems to cloud regions around the world to meet surging customer demand for AI.”

Teladoc Health shares fell in extended trading on Wednesday after the company reported a wider loss than analysts expected and issued disappointing quarterly guidance.
Here’s how the company did, compared to analysts’ consensus estimates from LSEG:
Loss per share: 28 cents vs. 24 cents expected
Revenue: $640.5 million vs. $639.6 million expected
Revenue at the telehealth company decreased 3% in the fourth quarter from $660.5 million during the same ******* last year, according to a release. Teladoc’s net loss widened to $48.4 million, or 28 cents per share, from a loss of $28.9 million, or 17 cents per share, a year ago.
Teladoc is in the midst of a deep slump, with its stock price dropping in each of the past four years due to hefty competition in remote health, challenges at mental health division BetterHelp and high operating costs.
When Teladoc acquired digital health company Livongo in 2020, the companies had a combined enterprise value of $37 billion. Teladoc’s market cap was around $1.9 billion as of market close on Wednesday.
“As we look forward in 2025, execution will continue to be a top priority as we advance efforts to unlock growth opportunities and position the company for long term success,” Teladoc CEO Chuck Divita said in the statement. “We will also remain focused on our cost structure, building on the significant improvements achieved in 2024 over the prior year.”
Teladoc reported adjusted earnings of $74.8 million in its fourth quarter, a 35% decrease from a year ago. Adjusted earnings for the company’s Integrated Care segment declined 5% to $53.2 million, and BetterHelp saw adjusted earnings drop 63% to $21.7 million.
For the first quarter, Teladoc said it expects revenue of between $608 million and $629 million, while analysts were expecting $632.9 million. The company said adjusted earnings will be between $47 million and $59 million for the *******.
Earlier this month, Teladoc announced that it will acquire preventative care company Catapult Health in an all-cash deal for $65 million. Teladoc said its outlook includes the anticipated contribution from the deal but not the impact of potential impairments or purchase accounting. Teladoc said the acquisition should close at the end of the month.
Teladoc will host its quarterly call with investors at 4:30 p.m. ET.

Trump hints at deep cuts at the EPA, alarming workers and environmental groups
Trump hints at deep cuts at the EPA, alarming workers and environmental groups
President Trump said the head of the Environmental Protection Agency is prepared to implement deep staffing and spending cuts as part of the administration’s efforts to downsize the executive branch, raising fears among employees and environmental groups about the impacts of the reductions.
“He thinks he’s going to be cutting 65 or so percent of people from Environmental,” Mr. Trump said at his first Cabinet meeting on Wednesday, referring to EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin. “You had a lot of people who weren’t doing their job. They were just obstructionists.”
A White House official later clarified that the president was referring to cutting 65% of spending at EPA, not necessarily a 65% cut in staff. Nonetheless, the remarks stoked concern among the EPA’s workforce.
The EPA currently employs more than 15,000 people across the country who are dedicated to its core mission of protecting clean air, land and water. A main part of that mission is to enforce federal laws, like the Clean Air and Clean Water Acts, that protect the environment and human health. The agency is also instrumental in cleaning up contaminated lands and toxic sites. It recently wrapped up phase one of the hazardous debris clean-up in California following January’s devastating wildfires.

“Trump said out loud what we have suspected all along: His agenda is to demolish the EPA,” said Jeremy Symons, a senior adviser with the Environmental Protection Network, a group of more than 650 former EPA employees that was formed in 2017 to protect the integrity of the agency. “This is a wrecking ball approach that will throw the doors open to corporate polluters.”
The Office of Personnel Management and Office of Management and Budget issued guidance to the heads of all agencies across the federal government on Wednesday instructing them to submit plans to reduce the size of their workforces and streamline their operations. The memo directed agencies to submit their plans to the offices for approval by March 13. Mr. Trump’s comments about the EPA sparked confusion, given the agency has yet to submit a proposal for downsizing.
“Since this plan hasn’t even been submitted to the OPM or OMB for review [and] approval, it is unclear how President Trump could state that there would be a 65% reduction at the EPA,” said Marie Owens Powell, an EPA union president of Council 238, which represents thousands of employees across the country.
“President Trump, DOGE, and Administrator Zeldin are committed to cutting waste, fraud, and abuse across all agencies,” said White House spokesperson Taylor Rogers, referring to the Elon Musk-led Department of Government Efficiency. “After recently identifying $20 billion in fraudulent spending, Administrator Zeldin is committed to eliminating 65% of the EPA’s wasteful spending.”
Rogers did not detail the $20 billion in allegedly fraudulent spending.
Whether it’s a 65% cut in staffing or a 65% budget cut, the impacts to the agency would be immense and hurt its ability to do its job, according to environmental organizations.
“Slashing the staff of the EPA will open the floodgates to more air pollution, contaminated water and toxic chemicals,” said Alexandra Adams, chief policy advocacy officer at the Natural Resources Defense Council, in a statement. “Pulling the nation’s environmental stewards off the beat is great for polluters, but it’s dangerous for the health of our families. Hobbling the EPA is not about saving money, it’s about protecting President Trump’s friends in the oil industry. Congress needs to step in to help put a stop to this.”

Penalty shoots Leipzig into ******* Cup semi-finals
Penalty shoots Leipzig into ******* Cup semi-finals
RB Leipzig needed a well-taken second-half penalty from forward Benjamin Sesko to edge out VfL Wolfsburg 1-0 and reach the ******* Cup last four.
Leipzig, back-to-back ******* Cup winners in 2022 and 2023, soaked up early Wolfsburg pressure in both halves on Wednesday (Thursday AEDT) before gradually improving.
They bagged the winner in the 69th minute when keeper Marius Mueller went the wrong way as Slovenia forward Sesko took his penalty, which had been awarded for hand ball.
Both teams almost scored late in the game, with Sesko’s close-range effort saved, before Wolfsburg, who had hit the woodwork with Mohamed Amoura’s header three minutes after the restart, missed a chance from Kevin Behrens.
Leipzig join holders Bayer Leverkusen and VfB Stuttgart in the last four, as well as third-tier Arminia Bielefeld, who stunned Werder Bremen 2-1 on Tuesday.

Trump calls America ‘**** and disgusting.’ What leadership!
Trump calls America ‘**** and disgusting.’ What leadership!
President Elon Musk, during the first Cabinet meeting of his new administration, allowed also-President Donald Trump a few moments to speak Wednesday. And when Trump spoke, he uttered a phrase that will no doubt stand tall among quotes from great American leaders past.
“This country has gotten bloated and **** and disgusting,” Trump said.
Inspiring rhetoric that will surely uplift the masses off their bloated, **** and disgusting keisters. I guess.
President Trump, with a historically low approval rating, slams America
President Donald Trump speaks during a cabinet meeting at the White House in Washington, DC, on February 26, 2025.
Adding to the unifying, patriotic message, Trump criticized former President Joe Biden, calling him “the worst president in the history of our country” and “a disgrace.”
Trump, America’s first-ever convicted-felon president, showed great courage in not mentioning that his approval rating, according to Gallup, is “15 points below the historical average for all other elected presidents in mid-February since 1953.”
I assume Trump thinks Gallup is bloated and **** and disgusting as well.
Opinion: Trump no longer needs MAGA voters, so he’s gutting Medicaid and laying off veterans
Who can forget Reagan’s classic ‘America sucks’ speech
I’m sure some naysayers out there will criticize the president for speaking so disparagingly of America, just as I’m sure Republicans would have been totally chill if a Democratic president had called America “disgusting.”
But here’s the truth: No president has honored his country with such soaring rhetoric since Ronald Reagan uttered the oft-quoted line, “America, you absolutely *****. I mean, how do you even look at yourself in the mirror in the morning, you dumpy, ********** wretch.”
President Ronald Reagan and first lady Nancy Reagan at the White House in the fall of 1987.
What’s remarkable here, really, is the speed in which America apparently let itself go.
Four years ago, as Trump was wrapping up his first term and trying to overturn the results of a free-and-fair election, he reflected on America, he said: “Incomes soared, wages boomed, the American dream was restored, and millions were lifted from poverty in just a few short years. It was a miracle.”
Your Turn: Trump’s first month has been devastating. And people voted for all of this.
He added: “But the greatest danger we face is a loss of confidence in ourselves, a loss of confidence in our national greatness. A nation is only as strong as its spirit. We are only as dynamic as our pride. We are only as vibrant as the faith that beats in the hearts of our people.”
We’ve really let Trump down by becoming ‘disgusting’
Well, it appears “our people” really whizzed the bed in a very short ******* of time, because America is now “bloated and **** and disgusting,” according to the same guy who previously said all that nice stuff.
Like most Americans, I’m going to need a little time to reflect on my disgusting self. I’m just grateful we finally have a leader who is unafraid to tell us he can’t stand the sight of us and, by the way, those jeans do make us look ****.

New Game In RPG Series That Inspired Puyo Puyo Is Getting An English Localization
New Game In RPG Series That Inspired Puyo Puyo Is Getting An English Localization
Did you know the popular Puyo Puyo puzzle games are actually spin-offs of a dungeon crawling RPG series called Mado Monogataru? It’s true–and the latest entry, Mado Monogatari: Fia And The Wondrous Academy, is getting an official English release on Nintendo Switch, PS5, PS4, and Steam later this year. While we’re still waiting for a final release date, preorders are available for $50 at Amazon.
$50 | TBA 2025
Mado Monogatari: Fia and the Wondrous Academy is a top-down dungeon crawling RPG where players explore randomly generated dungeons as Fia, and battle monsters–including the iconic Puyo blobs–collect treasure, and level up Fia’s skills. The other half of the game is set in a magic academy that acts as a town hub where players will chat with NPCs, play minigames, craft weapons, and more. The game will include English and French text options with Japanese voice acting.
The Mado Monogatari: Fia and the Wondrous Academy standard edition is the only version of the game announced so far, and the physical edition will be available on Nintendo Switch, PS5, and PS4. Digital preorders are also available on the PlayStation Store, Switch eShop, and Steam.
Mado Monogatari is a long-running dungeon crawling RPG series that started back on 1990 on the MSX and PC-98. The series started as a first-person dungeon crawler akin to other classic RPGs like Wizardry and Shin Megami Tensei, but other entries have experimented with other styles of dungeon crawling, including Fia and the Wondrous Academy’s top-down Mystery Dungeon-style gameplay. Despite running for over thirty years, Fia and the Wondrous Academy is only the second Mado Monogatari game to get an English localization. The previous game in the series, Sorcery Saga: Curse of the Great Curry God, was also launched in North America on Vita in 2014 and then ported to PC in 2018. Like Fia and the Wondrous Academy, Sorcery Saga: Curse of the Great Curry God is also a top-down roguelike mystery dungeon with randomized dungeons. If you want to check it out, you can grab it for $20 on Steam.
