  2. The interesting world of rotoscope animation The interesting world of rotoscope animation Have you ever wondered why a piece of animation looks so good? How a body moves under the limitations of its weight and musculature? There’s two reasons for that. The first reason is the animation team is not only skilled, but also has a veritable budget. Or perhaps they mixed that skill and budget with a little magical thing called “rotoscoping.” You might ask, “What’s this rotoscoping you’re talking about?” Well, that’s what I’m here to answer. Original rotoscope equipment. Taken from Adobe. Short and sweet Rotoscoping is an animation technique where animators draw over existing footage. This technique offers much more realistic animation by capturing the subtle details in body and facial movement. The name “rotoscoping” comes from the device used for this technique, the rotoscope projector developed by Max Fleischer. Live action frames would be projected onto a panel and the artist would trace over them. Rotoscoping has also been used by background artists, such as when Ira Turek used actual shots of New York to create the environments of ****** the Cat. Special effects artists would use rotoscoping for the matte process and light effects. The most famous examples of rotoscope special effects are the original Star Wars movies, where the technique was used to create the lightsabers. Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs behind the scenes footage. Taken from imgur. How it begin The first rotoscope animations were done exclusively by Max Fleischer’s studio, as he patented the method in 1915. His first rotoscope equipment was made in 1914 and it was used extensively for the Out of the Inkwell series. This was during the ****** and white age of animation. Fleischer’s patent expired in 1934 and the technique was free for other studios, such as Walt Disney Productions. Disney would use the technique for some of its most famous works, such as Snow White, Fantasia, Bambi, Peter Pan, Sleeping Beauty, and The Jungle Book. Disney directors weren’t the only people who adopted rotoscope technology. Don Bluth used rotoscoping for his family-friendly flicks, while the ****** animation scene was dominated by Ralph Bakshi. Many people cite Bakshi’s rotoscoped movies ********* Pop, The Lord of the Rings and ***** and Ice, as key factors in pushing animation to a more mature audience. ***** and Ice production photo. Taken from IMDb Why was it so popular? Storytelling… and marketing. People connect with things like hobbies, beliefs, and definitely appearances. Animation that blurred the line between real life and fiction helped audiences connect more easily with the characters. This, in return, created the potential for deeper storytelling and helped push the notion that animation is more than just drawings on a piece of paper. The combination between realistic and fictional allowed for animators to flex their muscles, if they could handle the workload of course. Marketing is all about the Ps — Product, Price, Place, Promotion. A visually unique style not only opens doors to storytelling, but makes your product stand out from the competition and gives the marketing team something strong to work with. Apollo 10 1⁄2: A Space Age Childhood, done using a technique very similar to rotoscope. Taken from IMDb. Why did rotoscoping decline? Just like regular animation, the fluidity of rotoscope animation depends on the amount of frames. More frames means better animation, but it also means more work on the animator and higher costs. Making a normal piece of animation can be arduous, but having to precisely copy a piece of pre-existing footage can be a long, tedious process. The other major reason is money. As I just stated, its a very time intensive process, and that time costs money. Some productions like Bakshi’s Lord of the Rings were handled like Hollywood level movies, with full costumes and sets. And if you’re going to make a full movie production just to make a animation, why bother in the first place? All that live footage will never be used. Deadlines approaching and studios needing to make their money back. Studios can speed the process up by hiring more animators but that inflates the budget. Due to the sheer complexity of it, Disney would often recycle its own animations to save time and budget. Creating animation from scratch was ultimately more cost effective, so rotoscoping was slowly steering towards the realm of high budget special effects. Coupled with the rise of CGI animation, traditional rotoscope has lost much of its edge. Nowadays rotoscoping has mostly been used for short movies and indie projects, such as the works of Morgan King. Very few studios and directors have employed this technique, save for Richard Linklater who used it for his movies Waking Life, A Scanner Darkly and Apollo 10 1⁄2: A Space Age Childhood. Another World has its animations done via rotoscoping. Taken from Steam. A few extra rotoscope facts The award winning sci-fi platformer Another World had its animations done using the rotoscope technique. The rotoscope technique has been used in the production of some anime such as Kowabon, The Case of Hana and Alice, Flowers of Evil and some segments of the recently released Uzumaki anime. Rotoscope has also been used for music videos. The most famous example is A-ha’s Take On Me. Other examples include Breaking the Habit by Linkin Park, Freak of the Week by Freak Kitchen and Ye’s Heartless. Ralph Bakshi’s Lord of the Rings movie was nearly scrapped completely. The movie’s live action parts were shot in the Spanish countryside. Elements on set that didn’t make sense for the *******, like cars and utility poles, would be removed in the drawing process. The Spanish development lab didn’t know the footage would be used to create animation, and upon seeing these inconsistencies, nearly destroyed all the footage. Director Richard Linklater commissioned a special type of software to create rotoscope animation. Called Rotoshop, the software would create blends between layers. 3. Transcript: Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear on “Face the Nation with Margaret Brennan,” Nov. 17, 2024 Transcript: Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear on “Face the Nation with Margaret Brennan,” Nov. 17, 2024 The following is a transcript of an interview with Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear, a Democrat, on “Face the Nation with Margaret Brennan” that aired on Nov. 17, 2024. MARGARET BRENNAN: We’re joined now by Kentucky governor Andy Beshear who joins us from Lexington. Good morning to you, governor. You’re a blue governor in a very red state. How do you even begin to try uniting a country as *******- as divided as this? Are there lessons we can learn from Kentucky? GOV. ANDY BESHEAR: I think there’s absolute lessons that- that we can learn from Kentucky, a state where, last year, I won as a Democrat by five points and Donald Trump just won by 30. And I think it basically boils down to both running and governing, where people wake up in the morning and what they worry about when they go to bed at night. And that’s not the next election. It’s their job, and whether they make enough to support their family. It’s the next doctor’s appointment for themselves, their parents, or their kids. It’s the roads and bridges they drive every day. It’s that public school they drop their kids off at, and it’s public safety in their community. The goal here is to focus on all of those things, where, if people don’t feel secure in those areas, they don’t get to anything else. They don’t get to the crazy thing that some politicians said last night or this morning, they don’t get to that next piece of policy that’s out there. So it’s a- it’s about a relentless focus on people’s everyday needs and their everyday life. MARGARET BRENNAN: Yeah. We’re going to take a break, come back and have the rest of the conversation on the other side of it. All of you, please stay with us. More from Andy Beshear in a moment. (ANNOUNCEMENTS) MARGARET BRENNAN: Welcome back to “Face The Nation.” We return to our conversation with Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear. Governor, Kentucky has a lot of coal. It’s got natural gas. Mr. Trump has selected Chris Wright, the CEO of Liberty Energy, to be the next Energy Secretary, if confirmed. He’s also selected Doug Burgum, the governor of North Dakota, to run the Interior Department, and he’s promised to open up more federal lands to drilling. Do you have any idea what the impact would be on your state from the signals being sent with these selections? GOV. ANDY BESHEAR: Well, we’ll see. I mean, I saw the comments recently from the CEO of Exxon, which was a little different than what we might expect, talking about needing to move to greener forms of- of energy, regardless of what the policy of the day is. And I certainly see from companies that are coming into Kentucky each and every day, we just announced a new industrial battery facility that’s going to create 1600 new jobs. They demand a certain portfolio of energy. Yes, the lights have to come on, but especially over time for their customers, they want a certain amount of renewables. So what I’ve seen as governor is a private sector push that I do not think is going to change demands placed on states, demands placed on utilities, and the private sector ultimately moving us to a more diverse and cleaner portfolio. So here in Kentucky, yes, we have many traditional forms of energy, and they have really good jobs, and we want to make sure that we never look down on and- and we support each of those jobs. But my goal is to diversify our production as much as we can so that we have the jobs of the present and those jobs of the future. MARGARET BRENNAN: You said Kentucky has something like 10,000 jobs related to electric vehicles. You really made a big push on that during the campaign. Mr. Trump vowed to undo the “electric vehicle mandate,” that’s what he called it, and he’s going to, he says, repeal the law that includes credits for green projects. Do you know at this point if *********** leaders intend to keep parts of that? And are there projections on what repealing that law entirely would do to the job creation in your state? GOV. ANDY BESHEAR: Well, it’s really concerning. You look at a state like Kentucky that voted for President-Elect Trump by 30 points, and it’s 10,000 EV related jobs on the line, and those are only growing. Go up to Ohio and look at that $20 billion chips factory, which I’m a little bit jealous of, but happy for the people of Ohio and- and what that would mean in another state that voted for the president-elect. So you look at all of these jobs and jobs of the future that have come to what- what the administration will probably view as red states. It’s important that these projects continue. Remember, a lot of the people taking these jobs, jobs that support their families, voted for President-Elect Trump because they thought that would improve their job, that he was focused on their job. So I hope that he will get good advice, and I’ll do everything I can to get my message out through our federal delegation of how important these jobs are. And they’re not in urban Kentucky. They’re in rural Kentucky. They are game changing investments that- that have created a bright future here, and I’m certainly going to do everything I can as governor of Kentucky to protect them, and not because I’m a Democrat, but because I’ve shown my people that every single day I’m going to try to create a better life for them, and that’s what those jobs do. MARGARET BRENNAN: Yeah, 14 billion between now and 2030 was what was promised to your state. I wonder if you just think Democrats didn’t do a good job of explaining that? GOV. ANDY BESHEAR: Well, I certainly don’t want to do any finger pointing, because the- the Vice President had 107 days, and she did her very best, and I proudly crisscrossed the country in support of her. But what I know is, going forward, over the next couple years, we have a chance every day, every moment, to show the ********* people that we are laser focused on jobs, on their health care, on their infrastructure, on their kids’ education, just- just those everyday worries, and with this administration, at least right now selecting some very extreme appointees, it’s a chance to make a real difference, to really show people that- that we’re where their basic needs are. MARGARET BRENNAN: Well, but there was, as you know, some analysis after the fact among Democrats about the focus on some culture war issues, or so to speak. Congressman Seth Moulton said, of transgender issues, “I have two little ******. I don’t want them getting run over on a playing field by a male or formerly male athlete. But as a Democrat, I’m supposed to be afraid to say that.” He says he’s “speaking authentically,” and said Democrats should do more of it. Do you think Democrats have been out of touch on some of these things that obviously resonate in states like yours? GOV. ANDY BESHEAR: Well, I think that- that all candidates should stand up for- for their beliefs and that- and that we don’t have to abandon those beliefs. You know, I vetoed one of the nastiest anti-LGBTQ bills that my state had ever seen in my election year, but- but I did two things. Number one, I talked about my why, for me, that’s my ******, where I’m taught that all children are children of ****. And I wanted to stick up for some children that were being picked on in a pretty rough bill. But the second thing is, the- the voters in my state knew the very next day, I was going to be working on jobs. I was going to be opening a new health clinic, first hospital in our largest ******** ********* neighborhood in 150 years, we just cut the ribbon on. We’ve created two pediatric autism centers in- in Appalachia, so that people don’t have to drive two hours. So it’s- it’s both sharing your why and your authentic why for- for your views, but- but the other piece is about that focus. Because remember, if we’re talking about this issue of the day, and then we’re talking about what Donald Trump said last night, and then we’re talking about jobs. We’re only spending a third of the time talking about what people are worried about and what impacts their life the most. MARGARET BRENNAN: Governor, thank you for joining us today. We’ll be right back. Source link #Transcript #Kentucky #Gov #Andy #Beshear #Face #Nation #Margaret #Brennan #Nov Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content]

  5. Apple’s next AirTag is coming in 2025 with privacy improvements Apple’s next AirTag is coming in 2025 with privacy improvements It’s been a few years since Apple first introduced the AirTag, and while the tracker has undoubtedly become a useful everyday tool for a lot of buyers, there have also been concerns — and — over misuses of the device as reports of AirTag stalking have come to light. With all of this in mind, Apple is reportedly building some privacy improvements into its next AirTag. Namely, it’ll be more tamper-proof, Mark Gurman reports in this week’s newsletter. The second-generation AirTag, which Gurman reports is expected to be released mid-next year, will be made so it’s more difficult to remove the speaker, he writes. Apple has implemented features to curb unwanted tracking, including sound alerts that will let a person know there’s an unknown AirTag in their vicinity, but it’s still relatively easy to remove the speaker, which would make it less noticeable. On top of the privacy tweaks, the new AirTag will also bring upgrades to range and the onboard wireless chip, according to Gurman. But looks-wise, it shouldn’t be much different from the AirTag we’re used to. Source link #Apples #AirTag #coming #privacy #improvements Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content]
  6. Gemini is coming to supercharge Google Assistant on smart displays and speakers – and here’s how it will work Gemini is coming to supercharge Google Assistant on smart displays and speakers – and here’s how it will work Gemini is being added to older devices with Google Assistant Hidden code reveals the upgrade is coming soon The “improved Assistant” will offer more comprehensive answers Rather confusingly, Google has two smart assistants in play at the moment: Gemini and Google Assistant. For now at least, Google Assistant is sticking around on smart displays and speakers, but we’ve now got some clues as to how Gemini will be helping out. The team at 9to5Google spotted code hidden in the latest Google app for Android that referenced “an improved Assistant” with richer responses, a better understanding of your instructions, and a new set of voices to pick from. At the same time as the launches for the Google TV Streamer and the 4th-gen Google Nest Thermostat, we heard that Gemini would be front and center on new products – but that Google Assistant would still be doing a job on older hardware. Based on the code found by 9to5Google – which isn’t yet enabled, and may be changed before its released to the wider world – it would appear that the extra smarts available in Gemini will soon be added to Google Assistant on Nest speakers and displays. Switching over Gemini is now available for both Android and iOS (Image credit: Google) Google clearly sees Gemini as the future when it comes to smart AI-powered assistants. It’s preloaded on the new Pixel 9 phones – see our Google Pixel 9 Pro review for details, for example – and is being pushed into multiple Google apps. There are an awful lot of devices out in the wild with Google Assistant on them though – including third-party hardware that’s not made by Google – which means support for the older AI **** is going to have to continue for the foreseeable future. Hopefully, as far as the user experience goes, this continuing transition will be pretty smooth: you’ll just speak out or type your requests, and the AI will respond accordingly, no matter which assistant you’re actually using behind the scenes. Sign up to be the first to know about unmissable ****** Friday deals on top tech, plus get all your favorite TechRadar content. Gemini is slowly but surely adding support for all the tasks that Google Assistant is capable of, while also providing a more intelligent and deeper set of responses when needed, thanks to generative AI – and it seems it’s about to arrive on more smart devices soon. 11. ****** Prophecy Playing Out in *******: New ‘Patterns of Evidence’ Film Seeks to Unpack the Truth ****** Prophecy Playing Out in *******: New ‘Patterns of Evidence’ Film Seeks to Unpack the Truth A documentary filmmaker is on a mission to explore the authenticity of ancient ****** prophecies. Tim Mahoney, whose new film, “Patterns Of Evidence: The ******* Dilemma – Ancient Prophecies,” hits theaters Nov. 13, 14, and 17, told CBN News the events unfolding in the Middle East today are intricately tied to what we see happening in the Old and New Testaments. Mahoney said the roots of his new movie were set in 2007 when he was working on another project surrounding the Israelites’ fleeing Egypt to head for the Promised Land. As he navigated that story, he realized a great deal about ****’s promises to Abraham had been misunderstood or had gone unknown to some. Watch Mahoney discuss the film: “When we look at what happened last October with the ******* in *******, and then, shockingly, what happened with the campuses around the ******* States with the anti-Semitism, I realized that a lot of people don’t have any understanding of biblical prophecy,” Mahoney said. “The land of ******* was promised to Abraham’s descendants, and, so, that’s what this film is about — what are these ancient prophecies and how should we understand them?” He said “Patterns Of Evidence: The ******* Dilemma – Ancient Prophecies” explores ****’s covenant with Abraham and its establishment at Mount Sinai. Mahoney said he looks in the film for evidence of what’s discussed throughout the Old Testament. “[Moses] wrote that in the future, these people would have a kingdom,” he said. “So, I’m looking for the kingdom. And secondly, he says that, if you have this kingdom … you need to obey ****. And that’s part of the prerequisite — you’ve got to obey ****. He says, if you obey ****, there’s blessings, and, if you disobey ****, there’s curses.” Mahoney said the ****** also discusses what happens if **** is disobeyed — that the people will be scattered and persecuted. And that’s not all. “Then it says, ‘But **** will be merciful to a small group of you, and you will return to the land,’” he said. “So, we’re looking for those five events.” Ultimately, Mahoney said he wants people to understand the impact and importance of prophecy. “What I want people to realize is that there are words that have been written down in the past, and, as time has gone on, these events that were foretold are happening,” he said. “And what I want people to see is that **** is true to His word, and these prophecies that were given.” Listen to the latest episode of “Quick Start” Mahoney believes “Patterns Of Evidence: The ******* Dilemma – Ancient Prophecies” is a “big undertaking” and a film that attempts to do something that hasn’t been done before on the big screen, taking people throughout the biblical narrative to explore the prophetic “patterns of evidence.” The movie, he believes, offers a basis of understanding surrounding where it all started — and how **** fits into the equation. “And the question is, is this a supernatural battle that is actually going on?” Mahoney said, noting the first film, which will eventually have a sequel, focuses on the establishment of ****’s legal agreement with *******. 12. Matt Dawson column: I am reluctant to criticise England but change is needed Matt Dawson column: I am reluctant to criticise England but change is needed South ******* are maybe not head and shoulders above England, but they are still better by a head. Even though England started so well again in Saturday’s 29-20 defeat, the Boks dialled it up when they needed to and their bench was far superior, not just in the pack but in the backline as well. England’s bench didn’t bring much control, added tempo or the ability to finish the game. It felt like England were always chasing and they lacked a bit of direction in that last 20 minutes. I would be lying if I thought there was a moment in the game when England could win, but they certainly put themselves in good positions and had opportunities to be within range, and then you never know what is going to happen. Someone could go to the sin-bin, or a kick could be charged down – England just needed the bounce of the ball to go their way. I am, therefore, reluctant to question this England side and the coaching staff because they are playing some really good stuff. Sometimes, when I was watching England under Eddie Jones, I was lost – it was awful to watch and I just didn’t enjoy going to Twickenham. Head coach Steve Borthwick has tapped into something in this England side. Having played and been in squads with Steve, he is not a maverick and he is not the charismatic leader, but that doesn’t mean he can’t be a really good coach. He has to understand who he is and what he brings to this side. Can he bring in a coach who has more charisma? You look at France and their head coach Fabien Galthie, who is a bit more stern and aloof, but then you bring in characters like Raphael Ibanez and Shaun Edwards in the backroom staff as the ying and the yang. Andy Farrell was that guy with Ireland under Joe Schmidt and with the British and Irish Lions under Warren Gatland before becoming the main man with Ireland, as another example. If England lose to Japan, Borthwick is going to be under enormous pressure. I don’t believe he is now though, because the fans are looking at the rugby and can follow this team. With a few tweaks, the bounce of the ball and a bit of momentum from some wins, Allianz Stadium will be a tough place to go. Of course former England boss Jones will feel he can come and upset England with his Japan team, but as much as there will be motivation for him, you can multiply that by 10 for England. They enjoy the way they are playing now compared to the tedious strategy and regime Jones applied. I would expect England want to send him away with his tail between his legs. How to Unlock the Crown Clan Tag in ****** Ops 6 How to Unlock the Crown Clan Tag in ****** Ops 6 The Crown Clan Tag is one of the most unique and cool-looking Clan Tag icons in all of ****** Ops 6. Its unlock requirements come with a price though, so you have been warned. Read on for full details on how to unlock the Crown Clan Tag, why it’s so sought-after, and how to equip it. Modern Call of Duty games allow you to customize nearly every aspect of your player profile: Loadouts, ******* Skins, Calling Cards, Emblems, Charms, and your Clan Tag. Even in 2024, I see the most ridiculous Clan Tags ranging from outright offensive to ingenious. In ****** Ops 6, you can go one step further, and change your clan tag to a different icon altogether—separate from your Prestige icon. These special Clan Tags started appearing once Call of Duty: ****** Ops 6 Season One dropped. There’s a special reason why, so let’s check out everything we know about the Crown Clan Tag. How to Get Crown Clan Tag in ****** Ops 6 Nothing good in life is free. Credit to Activision You need to own the Blackcell Season One content upgrade in ****** Ops 6 to automatically unlock the Crown Clan Tag option. This means either purchasing Call of Duty: ****** Ops 6 Vault Edition (which comes with Blackcell access) or paying extra to upgrade your current version of BLOPS 6 in online multiplayer. If you meet the criteria above, the Crown Clan Tag is part of an immediate set of rewards given to you when you start your season one adventure. The first Blackcell version of the Season Pass comes with the following: 1,100 CoD Points. “Boiling Point” Goblin MM2 Blackcell Blueprint. “Who’s Laughing Now?” Finishing Move. Crown Clan Tag. Goliath Operator Skin. How to Equip Crown Clan Tag in ****** Ops 6 You need to go to the “Clan Tag” settings in ****** Ops 6 and press on “Edit Clan Tag,” and if you have the Crown Clan Tag, you receive an exclusive option to equip the Crown as your Clan Tag. Do this to equip the cosmetic: Obtain the Blackcell Season One Battle Pass upgrade. Go to the ****** Ops 6 main multiplayer menu. Press Options on PlayStation—or the applicable input on your platform. Shuffle across to the player profile sub-menu. Scroll down to Edit Clan Tag. Press on it, and if you own the Blackcell upgrade, you see two options: Equip Blackcell Clan Tag and Edit Clan Tag. Choose the first option, and equip the Crown. Where you would normally have a Clan Tag, you now sport the most glorious of gold crowns instead. It does mean paying extra (upgrading to Blackcell) but you can’t argue with the outcome, and it’s why everyone is so desperate to have it. 17. Scientists transform blood into regenerative materials, paving the way for personalized, 3D-printed implants Scientists transform blood into regenerative materials, paving the way for personalized, 3D-printed implants Researchers holding 3D printed PA-blood constructs. Credit: University of Nottingham Scientists have created a new ‘biocooperative’ material based on blood, which has been shown to successfully repair bones, paving the way for personalized regenerative blood products that could be used as effective therapies to treat injury and ********. Researchers from the Schools of Pharmacy and Chemical Engineering at the University of Nottingham have used peptide molecules that can guide key processes taking place during the natural healing of tissues to create living materials that enhance tissue regeneration. The research is published in Advanced Materials. Most of our body tissues have evolved to regenerate ruptures or fractures with remarkable efficacy, as long as these are small in size. This healing process is highly complex. The initial stages rely on liquid blood forming the solid regenerative hematoma (RH), a rich and living microenvironment comprising key cells, macromolecules, and factors that orchestrate regeneration. The team developed a self-assembling methodology where synthetic peptides are mixed with whole blood taken from the patient to create a material that harnesses key molecules, cells, and mechanisms of the natural healing process. In this way, it was possible to engineer regenerative materials capable of not only mimicking the natural RH, but also enhancing its structural and functional properties. These materials can be easily assembled, manipulated, and even 3D printed while maintaining normal functions of the natural RH, such as normal platelet behavior, generation of growth factors, and recruitment of relevant cells important for healing. With this method, the team has shown the capacity to successfully repair bone in animal models using the animal’s own blood. Alvaro Mata, who is Professor of Biomedical Engineering and Biomaterials in the School of Pharmacy and the Department of Chemical and Environmental Engineering at the University of Nottingham and led the study, said, “For years, scientists have been looking at synthetic approaches to recreate the natural regenerative environment, which has proven difficult given its inherent complexity. Here, we have taken an approach to try to work with biology instead of recreating it. “This ‘biocooperative’ approach opens opportunities to develop regenerative materials by harnessing and enhancing mechanisms of the natural healing process. In other words, our approach aims to use regenerative mechanisms that we have evolved with as fabrication steps to engineer regenerative materials.” Dr. Cosimo Ligorio from the Faculty of Engineering at the University of Nottingham is co-author on the study. He says, “The possibility to easily and safely turn people’s blood into highly regenerative implants is really exciting. Blood is practically free and can be easily obtained from patients in relatively high volumes. “Our aim is to establish a toolkit that could be easily accessed and used within a clinical setting to rapidly and safely transform patients’ blood into rich, accessible, and tunable regenerative implants.” More information: Soraya Padilla‐Lopategui et al, Biocooperative Regenerative Materials by Harnessing Blood‐Clotting and Peptide Self‐Assembly, Advanced Materials (2024). 18. Italy find way back to avoid upset against Georgia Italy find way back to avoid upset against Georgia Italy have recovered from a poor start to earn a hard-fought 20-17 win over Georgia in Genoa after the visitors let slip an 11-point half-time lead. After last weekend’s 50-18 loss to Argentina, the Italians were desperate to impress, and they have had Georgia on their minds since losing the last meeting between the sides in 2022. Italy lost captain Michele Lamaro through injury after two minutes and Sunday’s game remained scoreless until Paolo Garbisi’s penalty in the 22nd minute but Georgia responded immediately with a try from Akaki Tabutsaze, converted by Luka Matkava. The sides traded penalties before Georgian Davit Niniashvili collected a kick inside his own half and set off on a mazy run, beating three Italian defenders before releasing captain Vasil Lobzhanidze to score under the posts. Matkava converted again but Italy’s recovery began in the 53rd minute with a penalty try for an intentional knock-on by Tabutsaze who was also sent to the sin bin. Italy hit the front 10 minutes later when they crossed the try line for the first time after Alessandro Fusco squeezed through a gap and Garbisi went over to put the home side three points ahead. Matt Gallagher missed his second penalty of the match to leave the game on a ****** edge heading into the final minutes, but Italy emerged with some confidence restored before they take on New Zealand next Saturday in their final November Test. 19. Bus fares to rise above £3 when cap expires, Transport Secretary suggests Bus fares to rise above £3 when cap expires, Transport Secretary suggests The £3 cap on bus fares is set to be scrapped at the end of next year, the Transport Secretary has signalled. A universal cap on fares was first introduced by the Conservatives at £2 to encourage the use of public transport after the pandemic. Labour announced in the Budget that the cap would be raised to £3 next year, sparking concern that the ceiling may be removed altogether. It has emerged that more targeted relief schemes are being considered from 2026 onwards. Louise Haigh, the Transport Secretary, said that her department had found that the “best approach” was to provide targeted support for young people. Asked whether the £3 cap would be kept beyond next year, she told Sunday Morning with Trevor Phillips on Sky News: “The plans that we inherited would have ended the cap completely on Dec 31. “We’ve stepped in with funding to protect it at £3 until Dec 31 next year. And in that *******, we’ll look to establish more targeted approaches. We’ve, through evaluation of the £2 cap, found that the best approach is to target it at young people.” She added: “Just like we do with the concessionary fare for older people, we think we can develop more targeted ways that will better encourage people on to buses.” Pressed on whether this meant that passengers should expect targeted subsidies on bus fares rather than a single cap, she said: “That’s what we’re considering at the moment.” Ms Haigh added that the previous cap introduced by the Tories “had not represented good value for money” and that her department’s priority was to improve the “reliability of buses”. Labour will provide more than £1bn in funding for the bus network in an attempt to calm concerns about a hike in fares and the future of vital routes. The Government will hand £712m to councils for investment in local services in an extension of the bus service improvement plan (BSIP), which was due to expire in April. Ms Haigh said bus operators would receive £243m in subsidies to keep fares down and boost frequency. While every part of England would benefit, the funds would be focused on historically underserved communities, such as small towns and villages, the Department for Transport (DfT) said. Retaining the BSIP grant, which was introduced under Boris Johnson to encourage people back onto public transport after Covid, will soften the ***** of fare hikes. The BSIP, which to date has provided £1.08bn of funding, has become integral to the survival of many services, according to the Urban Transport Group, which previously warned that without it one in four services could be at risk in areas such as South Yorkshire. The BSIP is integral to the survival of many services, especially early morning, late night and Sunday buses – Lee Thomas Early morning, late night and Sunday buses are highly dependent on the grants, while two thirds of “socially necessary” routes are fully funded through them. Campaigners ***** that without a cap, local people and tourists will be priced off longer, rural routes, leading services to be axed altogether. Ms Haigh said the new investment would protect rural buses and increase their use for shopping and commuting, while preventing service reductions on at-risk routes. She said urban areas would be able to maintain high service levels outside the busiest hours. Areas receiving record bus funding include the Isle of Wight, Torbay in Devon, Leicester in the East Midlands and Peterborough in Cambridgeshire. In addition to the £955m in new funding, the Government has committed £150m to support the £3 cap. Fare increases would be limited to the level of inflation to ensure that not all of them immediately climb to the maximum, the DfT said. Ms Haigh on Sunday also told the BBC she regretted an outburst last month in which she labelled P&O Ferries a “rogue” operator and called for a boycott of its vessels over the sacking of workers in 2022. Her remarks led DP World, P&O’s parent company, to threaten to halt a £1bn investment and quit a landmark investment summit, before Sir Keir Starmer distanced himself from them. She said: “I accept that my language was an unhelpful distraction, particularly at that moment.” Ms Haigh said that if the firm went ahead with the introduction of a new seafarers’ charter and minimum wage for maritime workers she would be “very happy to get on a P&O ferry”. Yulia Navalnaya and Russian opposition take to streets of Berlin Yulia Navalnaya and Russian opposition take to streets of Berlin Russia’s exiled opposition has marched through central Berlin in protest against President Vladimir ****** and the war in Ukraine. Several thousand supporters joined the march led by Yulia Navalnaya, widow of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny, who ***** in February in a Russian jail. Navalny’s supporters say ****** was behind his ****** but the Kremlin denies this. People carried the blue and white Russian opposition flag as well as Ukrainian flags, while chanting “no to war” and “****** is a *******” in Russian. Members of Russia’s opposition have been exiled since the Kremlin escalated its crackdown on dissent, jailing hundreds – perhaps thousands – of people for their political views. The opposition says it has three main demands – the “immediate withdrawal” of troops from Ukraine, the trial of ****** as a “war *********” and the liberation of all political prisoners in Russia. Ukraine was a major focus of the protest, which finished at the Russian embassy in Berlin. The Russian opposition has often been accused of failing to appreciate Ukrainian suffering, and failing to do enough to stop the war being waged by their country. Oleg Orlov, co-chair of the Nobel Peace Prize-winning organisation Memorial, who was sentenced to jail in Russia for his anti-war and anti-government statements, held a banner that read: “Victory for Ukraine, Defeat for ******, Freedom for Russia.” Orlov now lives in Germany in enforced exile after he was released in a prisoner swap in August. He called for Ukraine’s allies to continue supplying weapons. “Victory for ****** in Ukraine will conserve his fascist regime in Russia for many years,” he told the BBC. “More weapons for Ukraine is important, including for the future of Russia – because if ****** wins, then Russia is defeated – that is, the Russia that all of us here dream of and that we want to build. “Those in Europe who talk about peace at all cost in Ukraine, those prepared to appease the aggressor, do not understand the mine they are laying for the future of Europe itself.” Speaking outside the Russian embassy, Vladimir Kara-Murza, who was also freed in August after spending over two years – 11 months of them in solitary confinement – jailed in Russia, called the embassy “a spy nest of Russia”. “It will be an embassy again,” he added. One young IT worker, Anastasia – originally from Kazan in Russia – said she left in March 2022 because she could not stay in a country waging a war that she opposed. She said it was “impossible to protest in an authoritarian state”, adding that this is why the rally was so crucial. Now that the event is coming to a close, they are expecting to see more fun and engaging events like this. The Asobi Team has done exceptional work since the launch of the game, with various fixes and new features added over time. Players are enjoying all the new levels and events in the game, and due to all this effort by the developers, players have set very high expectations for what’s to come in future updates. While the latest event showcased the potential of the developer and its commitment to enhancing the player experience, this has also placed a heavy burden on its shoulders to one-up its previous efforts. However, due to the team’s great track record, players believe that the developers will live up to their expectations and are looking forward to similar events in the future. In the end, the Building Speed event has been a great success, and players are enjoying the appearance of all special bots. Retro beige PC case goes from April Fools’ joke to retail — SilverStone’s sleeper PC with modern internals ships in Q1 2025 Retro beige PC case goes from April Fools’ joke to retail — SilverStone’s sleeper PC with modern internals ships in Q1 2025 Cases, cooling, and power specialist SilverStone has announced that a desktop PC case that it previously showed off as an April Fools’ joke is heading to retail. An unashamedly beige SilverStone FLP01 pre-built system was on display earlier in the week at the firm’s Japan Expo. ********* tech media reports that FLP01 cases will be released sometime in Q1 2025 priced at JPY 19,800 (~$130). 明日の準備中…いつもの場所でお待ちしております。#SILVERSTONEEXPO2024~LEGACY~ pic.twitter.com/S5E9ONrUmGNovember 15, 2024 Some of us tech old-timers started on systems that look a lot like SilverStone’s new FLP01. This particular design is said to have been strongly influenced by the NEC PC-9800 series, which was popular in Japan. The desktop form factor doubles as a monitor stand and puts the swapping of essential floppy and CD media within easy reach. Image 1 of 2 (Image credit: SilverStone) (Image credit: SilverStone) Looking more closely at the not-shiny new FLP01, the front has a couple of faux 5.25-inch floppy drives to the right. Sadly, they look fake, even from a distance, with the filled-in slots and single-****** plastics. However, these two artifices flip open to reveal an optical drive (upper slot) and front I/O array including headphones, USB-A, and USB-C ports (lower slot). A power button, plus disk activity and power LEDs appear to be present on the left front side of the desktop case. You can see these details in a series of images shared by ascii.jp. At the expo, SilverStone had an FLP01 system configured with some powerful modern components, presumably to show its flexibility and capacity. It packed in a full-sized ATX motherboard, full-size PSU, water cooling, Intel Core Ultra 7 265K CPU, and Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060 Ti GPU, as well as buckets of storage. Plenty of room seemed to be left for ******* GPUs than the Asus Dual model featured, up to a maximum of 300mm in length. CPU coolers up to 138mm tall can fit in. The demo system was configured with three intake fans (two on the left, one on the right) venting from the back and top. Other details we gleaned about this case were that it measures 440mm x 362mm, and is 170mm tall. Apparently, some slight cosmetic changes will be made to this prototype, to make it a closer tribute to the aforementioned NEC PC-9800. Hopefully, this, or a similar beige retro tribute case from SilverStone, will be made available outside of the ********* market. 23. Jeremy Allen White lookalike crowned in Chicago Jeremy Allen White lookalike crowned in Chicago AP Dozens of people descended on a Chicago park on Saturday, vying to be crowned best Jeremy Allen White lookalike. Contestants – including a toddler – donned chef’s aprons and white t-shirts in the style of White’s character Carmen Berzatto from the hit TV series The Bear. Others dressed as his character Phillip in Shameless, another TV show set in Chicago. Hundreds of spectators cheered as each contender stepped forward to show their resemblance. Based on levels of applause, the accolade went to a 37-year-old mental health therapist, Ben Shabad. AP “I didn’t really plan on winning – especially when I saw all these guys that looked like Jeremy Allen White – but the energy here is so exciting,” Mr Shabad told the Chicago Tribune. As a prize, Mr Shabad received $50 and a pack of cigarettes – a nod to Berzatto’s heavy smoking in the series. The show, now in its third season, follows a young chef from the fine dining world, Carmy, as he returns to the family-run sandwich shop in Chicago after his brother’s ********. The show won six prizes, including three for acting, at the 2024 Emmy Awards, drawing with Succession for the most accolades. The lookalike competition was organised by Chicago roommates Kelsey Cassaro and Taylor Vaske. The pair were inspired by the success of similar events in recent weeks for other celebrities including Dev Patel and Paul Mescal. In October, Timothée Chalamet stunned fans after turning up to a lookalike competition for the actor in New York. It appears the celebrity doppelganger craze is not yet over, with Saturday’s event just the latest in a string of competitions across the country. AP “People were online saying, ‘Why doesn’t Chicago have one?’ said Ms Cassaro, speaking with the Chicago Sun-Times. “I was like, ‘I think it should be Jeremy Allen White if we do it.’ And I also think a lot of Chicago dudes look like him,” she added. Cassaro and Vaske originally planned the event as a joke, posting details on social media and flyers in areas of Chicago. Once buzz picked up online about it, they decided to organise it officially. Unlike Chalamet, White did not show up to the competition. But that didn’t dampen his doppelgangers’ spirits. “I’m just impressed by [White’s] acting ability, and the shows that he’s been in have been really good, so I take it as a compliment that people think I look like him,” said Mr Shabad. The Champagne Supernova group were heavily criticised for using dynamic pricing – where ticket costs escalate in response to demand – when their *** reunion tour dates went on *****, and the DJ has branded the policy “*****” because it is a legal way of “scalping” audiences. The Praise You hitmaker – whose real name is Norman Cook – told The Sun on Sunday newspaper’s Bizarre column: “The only problem I have got is with scalping the fans. “That dynamic pricing, that is ripping off the fans. It is like auctioning tickets because you know they are doing well. “It is bad enough with the touts doing it, but the actual promoter and band doing it, it is *****.” And the 61-year-old star insisted he always wants to keep his own tickets as “cheap” as possible. He added: “As far as I know, it has never happened on my watch. I get a say on making tickets, on the whole, cheap. I always say, ‘Let’s have a fair price’. “Ticket prices are so exorbitant. It is just profit for people who are very, very rich already — and that is for the bands and the promoters. “I can’t see how you can justify making it even more expensive, just because you know you have got a gig that everybody wants to go to.” But Cook praised Coldplay for using their ticket prices to give back to struggling venues in order to boost live music around the country. He said: “I really f****** hate Coldplay. At least, I did until they announced their new arena tour and they announced they are giving ten per cent of the whole ticket prices for the whole tour, which will help keep smaller venues going. “That is the dynamic pricing you should be having. They are not making lots of money, they just want to survive. They just love to see rock ‘n’ roll. “New bands have to have somewhere to come.” Source link #Fatboy #Slim #blasts #Oasis #ripping #fans Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content]
