  1. 2025 Toyota LandCruiser Prado range growing with new version of best-seller 2025 Toyota LandCruiser Prado range growing with new version of best-seller The best-selling version of the Toyota LandCruiser Prado is getting a five-seat option. Toyota Australia has confirmed the GXL, previously offered only as a seven-seater, will be offered without its third row of seating. “We are always looking at ways to enhance our model lineup and are pleased to be able provide customers with this additional option,” said a Toyota Australia spokesperson. It’s expected in Australia during the second half of 2025. Hundreds of new car deals are available through CarExpert right now. Get the experts on your side and score a great deal. Browse now. Camera IconPrado GXL Credit: CarExpert Toyota Australia hasn’t confirmed how much the five-seat GXL will cost. The current seven-seat GXL is priced at $79,990 before on-road costs, or $7490 more than the base GX – albeit with a lot more extra kit besides just a third row of seating. The company previously said it expected the GXL, which has traditionally been the volume-selling variant in the range, to account for around 50 per cent of total Prado sales. It launched the GXL exclusively with seven seats, as with the pricier VX and Kakadu. If you want a five-seat Prado, you need to settle for the base GX or spring for the Altitude. Neither is offered with a third row of seating. Camera Icon5-seat Prado Altitude Credit: CarExpertCamera Icon7-seat Prado VX with third row folded Credit: CarExpert The new Prado’s third row has courted controversy among journalists and customers alike, as unlike the rival Ford Everest it doesn’t fold flat into the floor due to the placement of the 48V battery for the mild-hybrid system. That means the load floor is a lot higher once they’re folded, which Toyota has attempted to mitigate by installing a removable storage box to sit between the folded seats and the tailgate so there’s a consistent load floor height. The third row of seating can’t be removed without voiding part of the vehicle’s warranty. “If a customer removes the third-row seats out the seven-seat LandCruiser Prado variant, the warranty will remain valid for all components of the vehicle besides the third-row components,” said a Toyota Australia spokesperson in November 2024. Camera IconSupplied Credit: CarExpert The company says seven-seat versions of the Prado offer 182 litres of boot space with all three rows of seating upright, expanding to 906L with the third row stowed, and then 1829L with the third and second rows stowed. Five-seat Prado variants, however, offer 954 litres of boot space with all the seats upright, expanding to 1895 litres with the second row of seats folded. All Prado models in Australia are powered by a 2.8-litre turbo-diesel four-cylinder engine producing 150kW of power and 500Nm of torque, mated with an eight-speed automatic transmission. The four-cylinder turbo-petrol hybrid powertrain offered overseas has yet to be locked in for our market. 4. Spirited Away’s 856-Page Comic Book Omnibus Is Available Now For Only $30 Spirited Away’s 856-Page Comic Book Omnibus Is Available Now For Only $30 Studio Ghibli fans can now add the massive All-in-One Edition of the Spirited Away Film Comic to their bookshelf. The 856-page hardcover omnibus collects all five volumes of the previously out-of-print comic book adaptation of Spirited Away. Individual volumes in the Studio Ghibli Film Comic series are hard to find for reasonable prices, but the newly issued All-in-One Editions offer a budget-friendly solution for this issue. Spirited Away’s Film Comic omnibus was published earlier this week with a list price of $35, but fans can grab a copy for $29.75 at Amazon right now. These graphic novels are notable because they use the original film animation cells for illustrations. They’ve all been rearranged and reformatted to look like comic book and manga panels with full-color illustrations. Spirited Away clocks in at a total of 856 pages, while My Neighbor Totoro and Kiki’s Delivery Service are 584 pages each. Ponyo’s All-in-One Edition is 592 pages. For anyone who adores the art direction of Studio Ghibli movies, this is a pretty great way to “pause” a film so that you can focus on the smaller details of these beautifully animated stories. Because these comics use original cells and illustrations from the movies, they really can be viewed as reasonably priced art books, too. Hopefully Howl’s Moving Castle, which also has a Film Comics series, will receive the All-In-One treatment next. Spirited Away Film Comic: All-in-One Edition If you want to rewatch the films before reading the Film Comics, the Limited Edition Steelbook series of Ghibli movies is definitely worth checking out. We’ve put together a list of the collectible editions of Ghibli films you can get for retail price or less at Amazon, including Spirited Away, My Neighbor Totoro, Kiki’s Delivery Service, and Ponyo for $19 each. The 30th Anniversary Edition of My Neighbor Totoro, which comes with the soundtrack on CD and a 40-page book, is available for $37. Last summer, The Boy and the Heron became the first Studio Ghibli film to release on 4K Blu-ray. The steelbook version is discounted to $30 and comes with 4K and standard Blu-ray discs. 5. ‘I never thought I’d be back’: How Siosiua Taukeiaho bounced back from a failed medical and a terminated contract to revive his NRL career ‘I never thought I’d be back’: How Siosiua Taukeiaho bounced back from a failed medical and a terminated contract to revive his NRL career Veteran front-rower Siosiua Taukeiaho thought his rugby league career was over after he was sacked by Catalans last year for attending a concert, while he also battled a serious foot injury that derailed a potential move to the Bulldogs. Taukeiaho never thought he’d be back in the NRL after moving to the Super League at the end of the 2022 season, but he’s been handed a lifeline by the Sea Eagles and has been locked in to start their first game against the Cowboys. It caps an arduous journey for the two-time premiership winner at the Roosters who battled a serious foot injury before Catalans terminated his contract after he skipped training to attend a concert with a couple of teammates. Camera IconSiosiua Taukeiaho is back in the NRL following an unsuccessful stint in the Super League. NRL Imagery Credit: Supplied “I never thought I’d be back in the NRL. You can’t really predict the future, but here I am,” Taukeiaho said. “I didn’t play many games over there. I had a Lisfranc injury that I struggled a lot with while in France. “Rehab felt like it was going really well, but I don’t know if I came back early. I kept rupturing the ligaments and the joints which made it worse. “I struggled a lot over there with my injury and then I had the incident in my last year where I went to a concert (that I shouldn’t have). “Everyone found out a couple of weeks later and my contract got terminated, so I wanted to come back to Australia to sort my injury out and do my rehab here.” Camera IconTaukeiaho has won a starting spot after impressing Sea Eagles coach Anthony Seibold. Sea Eagles Credit: Supplied There was every chance that his footy career was over, but he felt like he had more to give and was rewarded with a train-and-trial deal by Manly. Sea Eagles coach Anthony Seibold had no problem offering him a lifeline given he saw Nathan Brown make the most of his opportunity at the club and became a “cult hero” on the northern beaches. “I like to give players a second chance and I am happy to give players a second chance, but they also need to take it. And Siosiua has taken that,” Seibold said. “He will start for us in the first game. He has earned that through his performances at training. He has twice won our trainer of the week. “He is a winner, and he has been great with our younger boys, particularly the Pacific Islander boys. He has been excellent there. “I saw a hunger and desire there. He wants to prove himself right in a lot of ways because it didn’t end the way he wanted it to end.” Taukeiaho is fully fit after finally overcoming a persistent foot injury that he picked up while returning a kick-off. His family was in France when it happened, but he was all alone for much of 2024 after he failed the medical with the Bulldogs who were worried about the injury that he played through in the 2023 Super League grand final. Taukeiaho said it was a “depressing time” as he battled the pain while having to learn a new culture, and it’s why he thought an NRL return was dead and buried once the Bulldogs turned him down. “I thought that footy was probably done for me because of the injury,” he said. “I struggled to even put weight on it and run when I came back, plus I was getting older, so I thought that was it. “I was just grateful that Gus (Phil Gould), Cameron Ciraldo and Travis Touma (Bulldogs trainer) accepted me at the Bulldogs to help me with my rehab because that helped me strengthen everything. “I’m grateful for the opportunity given me to come back to the NRL, especially Manly because I’m only five minutes up the road at Beacon Hill. “I’ve been in the game for eight or nine years and won two premierships at the Roosters, so the best thing I can do is come here and bring my leadership and experience to help some of the younger players.” Source link #thought #Siosiua #Taukeiaho #bounced #failed #medical #terminated #contract #revive #NRL #career Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content] For verified travel tips and real support, visit: [Hidden Content]
  6. New Clues in Mummified Gene Hackman Family Deaths Deepen Mystery New Clues in Mummified Gene Hackman Family Deaths Deepen Mystery Police have deemed the deaths of legendary actor Gene Hackman and his wife “suspicious” after searching their New Mexico mansion. Among the details that caught their eye: The front door was left ajar, the couple’s bodies lay on the floor in separate rooms, and an open pill bottle was discovered with pills scattered across the floor near Hackman’s wife. Police added there were “no obvious signs of gas leak,” discrediting a theory that has spread online. That’s not all according to a search warrant obtained by TMZ that added another level of mystery to the death of the couple, whose bodies were discovered Wednesday afternoon but were not positively identified until the following morning. Gene Hackman and wife Betsy Arakawa in Los Angeles in 1986. / Donaldson Collection / Getty Images Hackman, 95, and Betsy Arakawa, 64, were found after a neighbor requested a ******** check. Police wrote that the deaths were “suspicious enough in nature to require a thorough search and investigation.” Upon arrival, authorities found a dog “running loose on the property,” another family canine sitting near Arakawa’s body, and another found dead in a closet. Hackman’s body, which was fully clothed, was reportedly found on the ground in a room near the kitchen. His sunglasses were also on the ground nearby, leading police to speculate that he may have fallen. Police said they found a space heater near Arakawa’s head on the bathroom floor. Arakawa and Hackman were married for 34 years, having moved to Santa Fe after he retired in 2004. Law enforcement officials talk outside the home of actor Gene Hackman on Thursday. / AP Authorities have not released a cause of death, but Hackman’s daughter Elizabeth told TMZ she feared carbon monoxide poisoning was to blame for both deaths. A spokeswoman for the Santa Fe sheriff’s office earlier told ABC News foul pay is not expected, but she did not respond to a call and email from the Daily Beast. Santa Fe Sheriff Adan Mendoza told TMZ his deputies obtained a search warrant “in case” the investigation turns criminal but stopped short of saying a criminal probe had been opened. The county’s top cop added the couple could have “been victims of a double *********, suicide, accidental death,” or may have simply died of “natural causes.” Source link #Clues #Mummified #Gene #Hackman #Family #Deaths #Deepen #Mystery Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content]

  8. Auto-enrol eligible pupils for free school meals, say MPs Auto-enrol eligible pupils for free school meals, say MPs Children from poor households should be enrolled for free school meals automatically to prevent thousands going hungry, a report by MPs has found. The education select committee called for the change “without delay”, warning that pupils who should be fed free of cost are missing out because their parents have not signed up to the scheme. As of June 2024, around 2.1 million children were known to be eligible for free school meals in England – nearly a quarter of pupils. A Department for Education (DfE) spokesperson said the government “welcomed” the proposals and would carefully consider the recommendations. In England, families are eligible to apply for free school meals if they are on universal credit and have a household income below £7,400 per year, after tax, alongside other benefits. However, the committee heard evidence from an expert who estimated that one in 10 children in poverty are not receiving the meals. Earlier this month, Kate Antsey, of the Child Poverty Action Group, told MPs that it was often because of language barriers or difficulty with the administrative process experienced by their parents. Another estimate published in April 2024 by the think tank Policy in Practice put the number of children needlessly missing out on Free School Meals at 471,000. The cross-party education committee said the government should change the current rules using the Children’s Wellbeing and Schools Bill – which is currently making its way through Parliament – to remove the need for manual enrolment. Failing to address the issue would be a “missed opportunity” to feed hungry children at school, the report concluded. It added that low uptake of free school meals contributes to hunger at school for children living with deprivation. The MPs also accused the government of rushing the bill through the House of Commons “at the expense of time for proper scrutiny”. Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson has called it a “landmark” bill to “seek to keep children safe”. It includes plans for all children to have a unique identifier number, a bit like a National Insurance number, for safeguarding purposes. It also includes other wide-ranging proposals, such as universal free breakfast clubs in all primary schools, and changes to academy schools’ powers. Some of its proposals – particularly around academies – have been criticised, including by Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch, who called it educational “vandalism”. Paul Whiteman, general secretary at school leaders’ union NAHT, agreed with the committee’s calls for auto-enrolment for free school meals, adding: “Too often social stigma means parents do not register. “Crucially, enrolment for free school meals also unlocks pupil premium money for pupils, so without registration they also miss out on this vital additional support.” Campaigners say automatic enrolment would also bring in millions in extra funding for schools via pupil premium grants. The government pays schools £1,455 per primary pupil on free school meals or £1,035 per secondary pupil, per year, for at least six years. Other recommendations in the report include ensuring that children with special educational needs and disabilities can access universal free breakfast clubs, strengthening the access of children in care to mental health support, and developing a national care offer. Education committee chairwoman Helen Hayes said: “The committee has made recommendations designed to strengthen support for the most vulnerable children in society, based on compelling evidence from experts and from young people who shared with us their deeply moving experiences of life in care.” The committee called on the government to develop a consistent national offer for care leavers across the country, to support vulnerable young people with things like transport costs and access to apprenticeships. The DfE said the “landmark” schools bill would break the “unfair link between background and opportunity”. “Despite the challenging inherited fiscal context, we are introducing landmark measures to support family finances, including rolling out free breakfast clubs in every primary school and capping the number of branded uniform items parents have to pay for, as well as prioritising reform across children’s social care.” Source link #Autoenrol #eligible #pupils #free #school #meals #MPs Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content]

  13. ‘The evil deep state LIED TO YOUR FACE’ ‘The evil deep state LIED TO YOUR FACE’ Figures on the right reacted with anger on Thursday after the much-hyped release of federal files on the late Jeffrey Epstein, the deceased financier accused of running a sex trafficking ring involving minors, did not yield major new findings and featured some information that was already public. “THIS IS NOT WHAT WE OR THE AMERICAN PEOPLE ASKED FOR and a complete disappointment,” Representative Anna Paulina Luna, a Republican member of the House Oversight Committee, wrote on X after the release, adding her committee hadn’t reviewed the release. “GET US THE INFORMATION WE ASKED FOR!” Former One America News Network host Liz Wheeler, one of the right-wing figures who got access to the newly released files, was also dismayed, and claimed the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York (SDNY) was hiding unspecified information. “We’re talking recordings, evidence, etc. The juicy stuff. Names,” Wheeler wrote on X. “These swamp creatures at SDNY deceived Bondi, Kash, and YOU. Be outraged that the binder is boring. You should be. Because the evil deep state LIED TO YOUR FACE.” The Independent has contacted the U.S. Attorney’s Office for comment. Epstein, who rubbed shoulders with influential figures in business, politics, and academia, died by suicide in 2019 in a New York prison as he awaited trial. The lack of blockbuster revelations prompted some on the right to suggest a conspiracy related to the files on Epstein, who’s already at the center of numerous highly speculative accounts across the political spectrum. Bulk of ‘Epstein Files’ included information already made public in other court cases and investigations (New York State Sex Offender Registry) “The Epstein files are a total joke,” conservative personality Glenn Beck posted on X. “Who is subverting POTUS? [president of the United States]” Attorney General Pam Bondi has also suggested further materials were concealed. “Late yesterday, I learned from a source that the FBI Field Office in New York was in possession of thousands of pages of documents related to the investigation and indictment of Epstein,” she wrote in a letter to FBI Director Kash Patel. “Despite my repeated requests, the FBI never disclosed the existence of these files.” “When you and I spoke yesterday, you were just as surprised as I was to learn this new information,” she added in the message, directing the FBI to deliver “the full and complete Epstein files” to her by 8 am Friday morning and launch an investigation into “why my order to the FBI was not followed.” “If there are gaps, we will find them,” Patel said in a statement on Thursday. “If records have been hidden, we will uncover them.” The information released on Thursday includes an evidence list, flight logs, Epstein’s contact book, and a redacted masseuse list featuring over 250 entries, much of which was already public. Some notable new information did crop up, however, including that Epstein had Mick Jagger, Michael Jackson, actor Alec Baldwin, and supermodel Naomi Campbell in his list of phone contacts. 16. Ford ‘Mach 4’ Trademark Fuels Future Mustang Sedan Rumors Ford ‘Mach 4’ Trademark Fuels Future Mustang Sedan Rumors Ford filed a new trademark with the USPTO that could point to a Mustang sedan being built in the near future. The company filed to trademark the name “Mach 4,” conjuring images of Ford’s iconic pony car stretched to accommodate a set of rear doors. The idea of a four-door Mustang isn’t totally new, the company has been selling an electric SUV called the Mustang Mach-E for four years, after all. Automotive subbrands are all the rage these days. Everyone’s got one. GMC spun off the Hummer into its own thing, Jeep revived the Wagoneer as its own brand, and Chevy is reportedly preparing to spin Corvette into a standalone brand. Thanks to the introduction of the Mustang Mach-E several years ago, Ford also knows how to transform a popular nameplate into something new. Mach 4 a Mustang Sedan? Now, a new report from Ford Authority revealed that Ford has applied for a new trademark with the USPTO (United States Patent and Trademark Office) for the name “Mach 4.” The application was filed on February 25. According to the USPTO site, the trademark covers “Motor vehicles, namely gasoline and electric automobiles, pickup trucks, sport-utility vehicles, and their structural parts.” Car and Driver Rumors that Ford will build a Mustang sedan have been around for years, even going as far back as the Mustang’s first generation, according to Ford Authority. Fast forward to 2018, and Ford reportedly showed a concept model to dealers before the project was shelved. The outlet also reported that last May, Ford CEO Jim Farley said he “believes” the automaker could build a four-door Mustang as long as it has “all the performance and attitude of the original.” There’s also the possibility that this Mach 4 trademark somehow relates to the standalone Raptor supercar Ford has teased in the past. Nothing is known about that particular project, but in January, Farley told Top Gear, “We’re in the middle of creating something, so we don’t have all the answers yet, but the question is, should Ford make an off-road supercar? Not a version of a car, a standalone supercar.” Ford Given that Ford has already angered the feistiest of Mustang purists with the electric Mustang Mach-E, there’s a real possibility that the automaker could introduce a sedan. Then again, none of the previous Mustang sedan rumors have amounted to anything, so we’ll have to wait and see if this trademark also turns into a nothingburger. 19. Is the Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 Going to Return in 2026? Is the Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 Going to Return in 2026? The Nurburgring-smashing Ford Mustang GTD promises to be the most extreme version of the pony car that we’ve ever seen. That said, getting your hands on one of the limited-production, $300,000-plus machines isn’t exactly as easy as heading to the dealer. But according to a post on the r/Mustang Reddit page, that racing-inspired pony might not be Ford’s only super-potent Mustang for long; A document that appears to be a leaked memo from a branch of the United Auto Workers shared on the site appears to confirm the existence of a Shelby GT500 coming for 2026. The memo, which features the URL to the UAW Local 600 website at the bottom, details some recent adjustments within Ford’s Dearborn Engine Plant. While most of the piece focuses on Ford’s profit-driving items within the plant, it makes mention of potentially adding shifts to the plant’s Niche engine line, which produces the supercharged 5.2-liter V-8 for the F-150 Raptor R. The reason for that expansion is what really caught the eye of fans, as the memo bluntly calls out the 2026 Shelby GT500 as the culprit. “I can’t wait until we start building engines for such an iconic vehicle with an engine that will be named Legend,” the UAW 600-branded memo continues. Ford R&T has not been able to confirm the authenticity of these documents. We’ve reached out to both Ford and the UAW Local 600 for clarification, and will update this story with any additional comments or context provided. Ford has been quite cagey about the Shelby nameplates during the S650-generation Mustang era. Ford has seemingly looked to separate itself from the icons with its latest track-focused machines like the Dark Horse and GTD, which carry no mention of the previous range toppers. Shelby American themselves have even started using the GT350 name again for their own S650-based build, further hinting that Ford is done with the badge. They’ve said nothing about the GT500 thus far, however. It isn’t shocking to hear that a GT500 could be in the works. The model has served as the range topper since the S197 generation, with the outgoing S550 model representing a high point with fans. While the GTD technically sits in that slot now, it’s not even in the same pricing galaxy as the older blown ‘Stangs. Ford and the UAW also agreed to keep building that car’s 5.2-liter V-8 through at least 2028 in their last contract, which should run past the limited production run of GTD. Unless the automaker plans to sell a bunch of Raptor Rs, that production capability will be used for something else. Ford Don’t expect the same old Predator V-8, however. Given how potent Chevrolet’s LT7 V-8 has proved to be, we wouldn’t be shocked to see Ford push the 5.2-liter towards the 1000-hp mark. Such an engine would certainly be deserving of a name like Legend, though how they’d accomplish that is just speculation at this point. All I know is that I want FoMoCo to get busy prepping the debut. 23. ******* suspect claims self-defense in young mother’s death ******* suspect claims self-defense in young mother’s death ******* suspect claims self-defense in young mother’s death A ******* suspect is claiming self-defense in the shooting death of a young mother in north Charlotte. A trial for the first of three suspects started this week nearly six years after a stray bullet killed 27-year-old Kendal Crank while she was driving to nursing school. Crank’s life ended at the intersection of North Tryon Street and East 28th Street. PAST COVERAGE: Jury selection begins in trial of suspect in Charlotte mother’s death Adonis Smith was charged with first-degree *******. His defense attorney said in court on Thursday that Smith he did shoot and kill Crank, but he did so while defending himself from others who were shooting at him. However, prosecutors painted a different picture. MORE PAST COVERAGE: Smith walked into court Thursday before prosecutor Robert Brackett explained to the jury how it allegedly happened. Brackett said Crank was stopped at a stoplight at the intersection when he said a ****** SUV pulled around her to the left with bullets flying out of it. One fatally hitting Crank in her red car. “You will see a red Kia slowly proceed through the intersection, run into a fence and stop just across Tryon Street on 28th,” Brackett said. Crank was in the red car. A bullet from her left struck her in the head. The prosecutor told the jury they will see the interview where Smith eventually told detectives he was the one firing from the SUV’s passenger seat. “He will say he fired two shots,” Brackett said. However, Smith’s defense attorney, Kimberly Olsinski, said her client was simply defending himself that day, shooting at two men across the street in a parking lot who she said shot at Smith first. “Adonis Smith is scared, and he has that fight or flight moment,” Olsinski said. “And his instincts tell him to grab a gun that was in the car. And he picks that gun up and he points it out the window and he fires. And he fires at the man in the red hoodie that you will see was firing at him.” Smith’s attorney told the jury they will hear that under self-defense, even if an innocent bystander such as Crank is hit, their client should not be criminally responsible. “If a shooter shoots a bullet and his intent with that shot is to fire in self-defense, that intent travels with the bullet,” Olsinski said. The first few witnesses took the stand on Thursday as well, including some of the first officers and firefighters to arrive on scene that day. The jury was also shown gruesome pictures from the scene. Some of them even wiping away tears as they were shown. There won’t be trial here Friday, but it will restart Monday and could last two weeks.
