The Electric State: Kid Cosmo lets you play a game within a game to prep for the upcoming Netflix film
Play mini-games and help Kid Cosmo with his ship
Uncover the story that spans five years
Launching on March 18th
Netflix is welcoming another addition to its mobile lineup with The Electric State: Kid Cosmo, a new adventure that ties in with the upcoming film on the streaming service. It’s supposed to be a game within a game in that it lets you solve puzzles across a narrative that connects with the movie, all with lovely 80s-inspired aesthetics to bring on all the nostalgia.
The Electric State: Kid Cosmo centres around the lives of Chris and Michelle, spanning five years as a prequel to the upcoming film. You’ll be collecting modules and fixing Kid Cosmo’s ship, all while unravelling the narrative that led to the creation of the titular state in the movie.
I, for one, am super curious about all this – is it the end of the world? What’s up with the giant bots? Why does Chris Pratt have a weird moustache? It’ll launch on March 18th to offer a more comprehensive experience four days after the movie comes out, so hopefully, all my questions will be answered by then.
Now, it’s becoming a bit of a trend the way Netflix is adding movie or series tie-ins into its growing library, so if you’re keen on experiencing your favourite shows in a different format, the Netflix catalogue likely won’t disappoint. Don’t forget that you can play all these with no disruptive ads or pesky in-app purchases – all you need is your Netflix subscription and you’re good to go.
In the meantime, if you’re eager to join in on all the fun of the film where Millie Bobby Brown and Chris Pratt team up with gigantic robots, you can do so by checking out The Electric State: Kid Cosmo. Have a look at these top Netflix games too if you’re curious!

Without US help, Zelenskyy has few options except to repair his relationship with the White House
Without US help, Zelenskyy has few options except to repair his relationship with the White House
KYIV, Ukraine (AP) — Ukraine’s president has few options after last week’s astonishing Oval Office row with U.S. President Donald Trump, who berated the wartime leader. Now Ukraine’s future could depend on whether Volodymyr Zelenskyy can repair his relationship with the White House.
The heated conversation that played out live on television looms over all American support for Ukraine and could shape the country’s war against the Russian invasion. The scene will almost certainly stick with Zelenskyy for the rest of his presidency, if not his life.
American officials have said that they want an apology from Zelenskyy, who has maintained his cool in public appearances since the episode and leaned into European support while also rebuffing calls from U.S. officials to resign. He has even expressed optimism about continued U.S. support.
Trusted news and daily delights, right in your inbox
See for yourself — The Yodel is the go-to source for daily news, entertainment and feel-good stories.
As European partners rally around Zelenskyy, Western officials in Kyiv acknowledge that the durability of any peace plan will depend on U.S. military backing.
Zelenskyy has said he is still ready to sign a lucrative minerals deal with Trump that could be the first step toward a ceasefire. Since Friday’s confrontation, there has been communication between Ukraine and the administration but not between the two presidents.
Meanwhile, Trump is scheduled to address Congress on Tuesday with a speech that will offer him an opportunity to outline his vision for ending the war.
“I’m sure that this situation will pass, and there are more important things ahead. And if we all continue to be constructive, then, I think, we will have a positive result,” Zelenskyy told reporters Sunday after a meeting of European leaders in London. “Positive — if my understanding here is correct — positive is when we are bringing peace for Ukraine closer, all of us.”
Signing the deal with the Trump administration for a portion of Ukraine’s natural resources would have paved the way for more agreements on the future of American military aid and the terms of an armistice with Russia. Now all of that is uncertain.
Saving the U.S.-Ukraine relationship
Oleksandr Kraiev, an analyst at the Kyiv-based Ukrainian Prism foreign policy think tank, said the first step to salvaging U.S-Ukraine relations is “to re-establish personal contacts with Trump’s people and with Trump himself,” even though ”it will be hard psychologically.”
“Yes, the situation is quite dire. We see a lot of bad prognosis,” he said. “It’s not an apocalyptic scenario for us. The relations can be reestablished, not because Ukrainian diplomacy is far superior or because Zelenskyy is a great communicator, but because there is still an economic interest for Trump here in Ukraine.”
“As for saving the relationship,” Zelenskyy told reporters over the weekend: “I think our relationship (with the U.S.) will continue because it’s more than a relationship of one moment or another. We have to be open.”
Ukraine is “ready to continue the dialogue,” he said. “We want to count on new aid.”
U.S. officials have called for Zelenskyy to express gratitude for U.S. support, something the Ukrainian president has regularly done since the full-scale invasion began early in 2022.
“America is a democracy. The president is not the only power. Congress matters. Voters matter. Mass media and public opinion. We should work with them,” Ukrainian lawmaker Oleksandr Merezhko said.
Leaning into Europe
Europe has stepped into the gap left by the deepening Ukraine-U.S. rift. But a ceasefire plan crafted by European powers will still require U.S. support to be effective.
“All is not lost. There is a chance that a deal could still be done, but it’s much less likely than it was,” said Ben Barry, a military expert at the International Institute for Strategic Studies.
A French-British plan to deploy European contingents in Ukraine “should include the presence of the United States of America in one way or another” Zelenskyy said, adding that the U.S. could contribute air, ground or intelligence support.
Boosting support to Ukraine in the event that the U.S. withdraws aid would come at a great cost to the continent, Barry said.
Europe could provide arms and ammunition directly to Ukraine and could put the European defense and industry on a war footing, he said. “That would cost Europe a lot of money. Whether it’s got the political resolution to do that, we would see.”
Calls for Zelenskyy to resign
Zelenskyy has rebuffed resignation calls from some U.S. officials, saying only the Ukrainian people can decide who leads them.
Amid the criticism, there are no signs in Ukraine of public discussion about Zelenskyy stepping down.
“If Zelensky had behaved differently or if there had been an interpreter, of course, it would have been a slightly different story,” said Oleksandr Khara, director of the Center for Defense Strategies.
But David Novak, a 23-year-old Ukrainian cook, said what most Ukrainians were thinking. He said he was “shocked” by the Oval Office exchange and said he understood that Zelenskyy “is doing his best, and that he is holding on.”
In Ukraine, the White House blowup sparked yet another surge of unity, as many in the country interpreted the remarks from Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance as a personal affront while Zelenskyy expressed an opinion widely shared among Ukrainians — that Russia cannot be trusted to keep ceasefire promises.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs posted a selection of photos on Instagram of Ukrainians wearing military fatigues, blood-soaked medical scrubs and firefighting gear — all symbols of the war — with the slogan “Ukrainians have their suits.” The campaign is in response to a question posed to Zelenskyy in the Oval Office about why he was not wearing a suit.
In response to U.S. Sen. Lindsay Graham’s call that he resign, Zelenskyy told reporters: “I can give (Lindsay Graham) citizenship in Ukraine and he will become a citizen of our country. And then his voice will start to gain weight, and I will hear him as a citizen of Ukraine on the topic of who must be the president.”

Dolly Parton’s husband, Carl Dean, dies aged 82
Dolly Parton’s husband, Carl Dean, dies aged 82
Carl Dean, the longtime husband of country music icon Dolly Parton, died Monday at the age of 82.
Dean, who was famously private throughout his nearly 60-year marriage to Parton, died in Nashville, Tennessee, according to a statement she posted on social media.
“Carl and I spent many wonderful years together. Words can’t do justice to the love we shared for over 60 years. Thank you for your prayers and sympathy,” the statement read.
The “9-5” singer met Dean outside a laundromat on the first day she arrived in Nashville as an 18-year-old aspiring singer.
Parton recalled their first meeting, saying, “I was surprised and delighted that while he talked to me, he looked at my face (a rare thing for me). He seemed to be genuinely interested in finding out who I was and what I was about.”
Two years later, on May 30, 1966, the couple exchanged vows at a private ceremony in Ringgold, Georgia.
Throughout their marriage, Dean remained out of the public eye, choosing instead to focus on his asphalt-paving business in Nashville.
Though he largely stayed out of the limelight, Dean continued to influence Parton’s work, most notably inspiring her classic hit “Jolene.”
She told US media in 2008 that the song was about a bank teller who developed a crush on Dean.
“She got this terrible crush on my husband,” Parton said. “And he just loved going to the bank because she paid him so much attention. It was kinda like a running joke between us—when I was saying, ‘Hell, you’re spending a lot of time at the bank. I don’t believe we’ve got that kind of money.’ So it’s really an innocent song all around, but sounds like a dreadful one.”
Parton and Dean’s relationship remained such a mystery that rumours started that he did not exist – but Parton joked about that.
“A lot of people say there’s no Carl Dean, that he’s just somebody I made up to keep other people off me,” she said to the Associated Press in 1984.
Parton and Dean had no children together.
He is survived by his siblings, Sandra and Donnie, Parton’s statement said.

3 Boys Never Returned from Dad’s After Thanksgiving. Then Police Found a Noose, a Note and ****** with Verse Circled in His Home
Andrew, 9, Alexander, 7, and Tanner Skelton, 5, disappeared while celebrating Thanksgiving with their father in 2010
Their father John Skelton was sentenced to prison for not returning the boys to their mother
Their mother Tanya Zuvers believes they were killed by their father. He was never charged in connection with their deaths
A Michigan court was set to decide on Monday whether to legally declare dead three siblings who disappeared 15 years ago after spending Thanksgiving vacation with their father.
The Skelton boys — Andrew, 9, Alexander, 7, and Tanner, 5, were last seen in November 2010 in their father’s Morenci, Mich., home, where they were spending Thanksgiving, the Associated Press previously reported.
The boys’ mother, Tanya Zuvers, was seeking a divorce from their father John Skelton at the time, per the outlet.
Now, with more than a decade of no answers, Zuvers is requesting a court to declare her three sons dead. She filed the paperwork for this process in December 2023, FOX 2 Detroit reported.
On Monday, March 3, a Lenawee County court heard from investigators involved that there are no signs the boys are still alive, per AP.

Age progression photos of the Skelton brothers
In November 2010, when the children did not return to her the day after Thanksgiving, police traced John’s phone to Ohio at 4 a.m. and back in Michigan after 6 a.m., the outlet reported.
Detectives made an ominous discovery at John’s home while he was in the hospital for an ankle injury the same day.
Amid the mess in his residence, per AP, police found a noose hanging from the second floor, an open ****** with a verse circled and a note, seemingly for Zuvers, which read: “You will hate me forever and I know this,” according to FBI agent Corey Burras.
On one occasion, when his church pastor confronted him about the boys, John allegedly said, “I sent them home,” Burras testified, statements he said implied John had killed the children, AP reported.
“I’m confident they’re deceased,” Larry Weeks, who was Morenci police chief in 2010, said in court on Monday.
The boys’ mother also said she believed John killed them, WTOL reported.
The investigation also revealed internet searches by John, looking up instructions on how to break a neck, Weeks said.
He further alleged that John had lied about the children’s whereabouts, making false claims that they had been handed over to people for their safety. Zuvers also alleges John “claimed that the boys would hibernate until they graduate,” FOX 2 Detroit reported, citing a statement from the bereaved mother.
Michigan Department of Corrections

Zuvers told the court on Monday that this legal declaration will allow her to pay respect to her sons and put a date on their headstone, WTOL reported.
“Because their dad showed them no respect,” she said. “Because any loving father would not have done what he did, and I owe them the respect.”
“This decision came after much thought and discussion with my family and friends. It did not come lightly and was definitely a difficult decision to make,” she previously said in a 2024 statement, FOX 2 Detroit reported. “No parent wants to lose a child, but to have to have the courts step in and declare them deceased is just unfathomable.”

John has not been charged in connection with the boys’ deaths; he was convicted and sentenced to 15 years for failure to return the boys to their mother, according to AP and FOX 2 Detroit.
On Monday, John appeared in court via video and declined to participate.
“Everyone has got lawyers. I don’t,” he said, per AP. “I’m at a disadvantage. Anything I say isn’t going to make a difference.”

Texas rapper G$ Lil Ronnie, 5-year-old daughter killed in shooting at car wash: Reports
A shooting at a northern Texas car wash Monday killed a 5-year-old girl and a 30-year-old man who was reportedly local rapper G$ Lil Ronnie.
Police said two suspects opened fire at the victims shortly before 11 a.m. local time in Forest Hill, a suburb about 30 miles west of Dallas. Officers performed life-saving measures but both victims were pronounced dead at the scene.
A preliminary investigation found that the suspects fled the scene in a white four-door Kia after approaching the victim’s vehicle, according to the Forest Hill Police Department. There is an active capital ******* warrant issued for the arrests of the suspects, whose names have not been shared yet.
A witness at the scene said they heard around 20 to 30 gunshots, local station KTVT reported.
The shooting marks the fourth and fifth homicides in Forest Hill this year compared to none in 2024, the police department said.

Send This To Your Grandma, Dad, Or MAGA-Supporting Family When They Ask You How Trump’s Economy Is Faring
Send This To Your Grandma, Dad, Or MAGA-Supporting Family When They Ask You How Trump’s Economy Is Faring
Hi there, my name is Alexa, and throughout campaign season, I felt like I was berated by the idea that Donald Trump’s economic plans would lower the price of groceries, lower unemployment, boost the stock market…
Illustration of a smiling person with books. Text: “Pocket-Watching Trump: An Ongoing Four(?)-Year Report.”
…and don’t get me started on the “Trump gave us stimulus checks” crowd.
Disney / Twitter: @jessmcmxci
The Trump Economy concept didn’t spawn from nothing. In fact, the 78-year-old repeatedly spouted claims that he’d lower the cost of food on Day One of his presidency if elected. (This has not come to pass.)
What’s more, Trump has partially attributed his win to this unseen promise. When speaking to Meet the Press, he said, “I won on groceries. It’s a very simple word, groceries. Like almost, you know, who uses the word. I started using the word, the groceries… I won an election based on that. We’re going to bring those prices way down.”
Meet the Press / Twitter: @marlene4719
So, because the economy played such a large role in the outcome of the 2024 election, I’ll be tracking the real numbers achieved by the Trump administration.
That means I’ll be tracking the unemployment rate, cost of eggs, gas prices, inflation, the Dow Jones, whether citizens received a stimulus check, and Trump’s overall approval rate every month.
And I’ll admit — yes, I’m being a hater. Pocket-watching the Trump economy is truly some hater-type *****. But at the same time, holding candidates-turned-presidents accountable for their promises is important.
And if the numbers turn in Trump’s favor, I’ll continue to report on it and cheer for a thriving economy.
Person performing on stage in casual jeans and a sports jacket, wearing a cap and gloves, with a large audience in the background
So without further ado, here’s how Trump’s first month in office played out:
Note: Data on inflation is released a few weeks after each month has ended, so our reports will look at the previous month’s numbers.
Unemployment:
Closing out Joe Biden’s presidency, the unemployment rate for December was 4.1% according to the US Department of Labor.
Trump closed out his first calendar month in office with an unemployment rate of 4% in January 2025 — which is slightly down.
Graph with unemployment rates: December 2024 at 4.1% and January 2025 at 4%. Clipboard with a pie chart on the side
Eggs:
Rounding out the end of 2024, the average price of a dozen grade-A eggs was $4.15 in December.
According to CNN, the average price of eggs in January 2025 was up to $7.24 per dozen in New York, while in the Midwest, it increased to $6.84. In California, large eggs declined to $8.35 per dozen.
Unfortunately, the US Agriculture Department predicts the price of eggs can increase by more than 40% this year.
Notepad with “Eggs” prices: December 2024: $4.15, January 2025: $8.35. Three eggs beside the notepad
Gas:
The average price of gas in December 2024 was approximately $3.139 versus January 2025’s $3.196, according to the US Energy Information Administration.
The image shows a notepad with gas prices listed: December 2024 at $3.139 and January 2025 at $3.196, with a gas can icon beside it
Inflation:
I’m sure you’re not surprised to hear that inflation is on the rise. Year over year, inflation rose 2.9% in December 2024 versus 3% in January 2025.
Note with “Inflation” title showing December 2024 at 2.9% and January 2025 at 3%. Orange icon with chart and dollar sign at the bottom right
Dow Jones:
Meanwhile, the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell by about 5.3% in December 2024 and rose by 4.42% in January 2025, according to statmuse.

Stimulus Check:
Did you get a stimmy in January? Nope. Nada. Zilch.

And finally, Trump’s Approval Rating:
In January 2025, Trump’s approval rating was 47%, making him the only elected president dating back to 1953 with an initial approval rating below 50 percent, the Guardian reports.

BARCELONA — Huawei is dipping its toes back into the international smartphone market, but analysts warn the lingering effects of U.S. sanctions is likely to hamper the ******** company’s ability to compete with leaders Apple and Samsung.
Over the past few months, Huawei has launched two key devices outside of China. The first in December was the Mate X6, a foldable smartphone, followed by the Mate XT, Huawei’s 3,499 euros ($3,660) trifold phone.
Huawei was looking to stand out from the crowd of similar-looking smartphones at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, the world’s biggest telecoms trade show. The ******** firm had a large stand showing off its wares, including the Mate XT.
These expensive devices and Huawei’s presence at a global tech show, underscore the tech giant’s targeted approach, attempting to maintain its brand image as an innovative company while selling high-end smartphones.
“Huawei is still very cautious and conservative with what it believes it can achieve outside China with its smartphone business,” Runar Bjørhovde, an analyst at Canalys told CNBC.
“Bringing Mate XT and X6 abroad is no sign that it will make an international comeback with its smartphone business in the next years. Both of these are priced exceptionally and is instead to maintain its desired brand perception of being a cutting-edge innovator with smartphones and still sell devices to its most wealthy super-fans.”

Huawei’s downfall and comeback
International challenges
MWC used to be a show dominated by Huawei, from the sponsorship of the lanyards and badges that attendees wore, to announcing the buzziest product launches at the event.
While Huawei has scaled back some of the glitzier aspects of its attendance, its stand remains very large as it shows off other parts of its business, in particular its telecommunications equipment which helped turn it into one of the world’s biggest tech companies.
In the consumer space, Huawei has maintained some presence outside of China with devices such as smartwatches but its smartphone business remains very limited. The firm is using 2025’s MWC to show off the Mate XT, the first of its kind device with a screen that folds twice.
However, its success in China is unlikely to be replicated with the biggest challenge being Huawei’s lack of access to Google’s Android software, analysts said.
“I don’t think they will be able to return to international markets without the full Google services,” Francisco Jeronimo, vice president for data and analytics at International Data Corporation, told CNBC.

“They haven’t managed to grow market share in the international markets,” he said.
Google’s Android operating system is run by 80% of the world’s smartphones, according to Counterpoint Research. Outside of China, Android device users rely on the Google Play Store, which is Google’s app store, as well as the various apps from the Chrome browser to Gmail.
While Huawei has its own operating system called HarmonyOS, it still does not have the ability to offer Google apps, which the majority of users rely on.
“Expanding the smartphone business outside China will be a huge challenge,” Canalys’ Bjørhovde said.
“Not only because Harmony barely has any active users outside China, limiting its user feedback and app availability, but also because it needs the right device portfolio, operations team, marketing resources, etc. This will take years to rebuild, even with strong success in other device categories.”

23andMe‘s special committee of independent directors on Monday rejected CEO Anne Wojcicki’s proposal to take the distressed genetic testing company private.
Wojcicki submitted a proposal to the committee on Sunday, offering to acquire all of the company’s outstanding shares for 41 cents each, according to a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.
The stock plunged 33% on Monday to close at $1.47, down more than 99% from its peak in 2021.
Wojcicki and New Mountain Capital submitted a prior bid in February to take the company private for $2.53 per share. Days later, New Mountain told Wojcicki it was no longer interested in participating in a potential acquisition and would discontinue discussions, the filing said.
23andMe’s special committee said that Wojcicki’s proposal represented an 84% decrease from the prior offer and determined not to go forward, according to a release on Monday.
“The Special Committee has reviewed Ms. Wojcicki’s acquisition proposal in consultation with its financial and legal advisors, and has unanimously determined to reject the proposal,” the directors said.
A 23andMe representative declined to comment.
Following a turbulent 2024, 23andMe announced plans in January to explore strategic alternatives, which could include a ***** of the company or its assets, a restructuring or a business combination.
Wojcicki previously submitted a proposal to take the company private for 40 cents per share in July, but it was rejected by the special committee, in part because the members said it lacked committed financing and did not provide a premium to the closing price at the time.

Stocks tank as Trump says tariffs will start Tuesday
Stocks tank as Trump says tariffs will start Tuesday

“Tariffs” may be the most beautiful word in the dictionary for U.S. President Donald Trump, but it is one that stokes fear in investors. Risk-on assets such as stocks and cryptocurrency sank Monday after Trump refused to pardon Canada and Mexico from a hefty 25% duty on all goods imported from both countries.
In the markets, the S&P 500 fell the most since Dec. 18 and is testing its 200-day moving average, generally seen as a support level — meaning that if the index dips below that line, it could fall even further. Bitcoin sank below $90,000, erasing in a flash its 10% gain from Trump’s announcement on Sunday of the creation of a U.S. strategic crypto reserve.
Across the Atlantic, however, European leaders playing defense against Trump’s overtures seem to be boosting the continent’s markets. The regional Stoxx 600 outperformed the S&P 500 for February. And with defense stocks rising, Stoxx 600 had another leg-up on Monday.
Still, as Trump’s tariff announcement came after European markets closed, they could react badly on Tuesday when the tariffs go into effect officially. Investors should brace themselves for more potential volatility.
What you need to know today
Trump: Tariffs on Canada, Mexico to proceedU.S. President Donald Trump said the 25% tariffs on Canada and Mexico will be implemented on Tuesday after a monthslong pause, appearing unsatisfied by both countries’ efforts to fortify their borders. There was “no room left for Mexico or for Canada” to negotiate, Trump said at a White House event Monday, confirming that they “go into effect tomorrow.” An additional 10% tariff on China — on top of the 10% already imposed in February — will also kick in.
S&P now in the red in 2025On Monday, the S&P 500 fell 1.76%, its worst day since December, and is now in the red in 2025. The Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 1.48% and the Nasdaq Composite tumbled 2.64%. Bitcoin slumped 12% to around $82,000 as of early Asia trading. The pan-European Stoxx 600 index climbed 1.07%, bolstered by defense stocks surging after regional leaders held security talks on Sunday. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has said she will reveal more details on the “rearm Europe plan” Tuesday.
Arrests over Nvidia chips Singapore authorities detained three people late last week on charges of deliberately misrepresenting the final destination of U.S.-manufactured servers, likely containing Nvidia’s highly sought-after chips, said the country’s Home Affairs and Law Minister K Shanmugam on Monday. The detainment suggests the operation of a sophisticated network of resellers, possibly channeling Nvidia chips to China. Shares of Nvidia sank 8.7% Monday.
TSMC’s $100 billion investment in U.S.Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing will invest $100 billion in the U.S. to build five new fabrication facilities in Arizona, Trump announced Monday, calling the investment a “tremendous move by the most powerful company in the world.” The new capital brings TSMC’s total investment in the U.S. to $165 billion. Trump has repeatedly called out and accused Taiwan of stealing the U.S. chip manufacturing business.
Euro zone inflation easesEuro zone inflation eased to 2.4% in February, according to flash data from Eurostat on Monday. While the headline figure dropped from January’s 2.5%. it’s higher than the 2.3% expected by a Reuters poll. Core inflation, which strips out energy, food, alcohol and tobacco costs, was 2.6% in February, slightly lower than the previous month. The European Central Bank is widely expected to announce another interest cut on Thursday.
[PRO] Worries over 200-day moving average Technical analysts who watch price charts worry that the S&P 500 could soon test its 200-day moving average. The broad-based index’s beating on Monday confirmed how fragile the market setup is at the start of a new month, analysts said. Here’s why that technical level matters to investors.

The rampant growth of private credit may have an unlikely beneficiary: banks
A relatively new and growing form of lending in Europe is enabling banks to reduce costs, get around provisioning requirements and potentially boost returns by classifying certain debts as lower risk than they otherwise would. The new financing structure, known as “back leverage,” involves borrowers securing a loan from a private credit fund, which in turn borrows from a bank.
The loan amount issued by the bank to the credit fund is rated as less risky than an equivalent loan issued directly to the borrower, according to nearly a dozen sources CNBC interviewed for this story. The lower-risk-rated debt means banks are required to set aside a smaller amount of regulatory capital, relative to debt that is classified at a higher risk.

Malaysia says it’ll take action if firms involved in Nvidia fraud case
Malaysia says it’ll take action if firms involved in Nvidia fraud case

Malaysia said it will take “necessary action” against Malaysian companies if they are found to be involved in a fraud case linked to the alleged movement of Nvidia chips from Singapore to China.
That comes after Singapore Law and Home Affairs Minister K Shanmugam reportedly said on Monday that the servers in the fraud case may have contained Nvidia’s artificial intelligence chips which were then sent to Malaysia.
On Feb. 27, Singapore charged three men with fraud, with local broadcaster CNA saying it understood the cases are linked to the alleged movement of Nvidia chips.
“The question is whether Malaysia was a final destination or from Malaysia, it went to somewhere else, which we do not know for certain at this point,” Shanmugam told reporters.
Speaking to CNBC’s “Squawk Box Asia” on Tuesday, Tengku Zafrul Aziz, Malaysia’s minister for investment, trade and industry said the country has no information that data center companies operating in Malaysia are “not using the chips that they are supposed to be using.”
He said such servers are imported by data center companies such as Microsoft, AWS and Google.
Singapore’s Shanmugam had said Nvidia’s chips were embedded in servers supplied by Dell and Supermicro to Singapore-based companies, before they went to Malaysia. He added that “there may have been false representation on the final destination of the servers.”
When asked if Malaysia knew where the servers were now, Zafrul replied, “we don’t know,” adding that Malaysian authorities are discussing with the data center companies and checking if they have gone to the right parties.
“Right now, there’s no such cases in Malaysia to date, and we are investigating if they are. We’ll definitely discuss this with Singapore and well, the companies would then have to be held accountable by the relevant authorities,” he added.
CNA also reported two Singaporeans were charged with criminal conspiracy to commit fraud on a supplier of servers.
Citing charge sheets, CNA said they allegedly made false representations in 2024 that the items would not be transferred to a person other than the “authorized ultimate consignee of end users.”
The charges also come after Reuters reported in late January that the U.S. Commerce Department is looking into whether ******** AI startup DeepSeek has been using U.S. chips that are not allowed to be shipped to China.
Citing a person familiar with the matter, Reuters said “organized AI chip smuggling to China has been tracked out of countries including Malaysia, Singapore and the United Arab Emirates.”
Zafrul told CNBC that Malaysia will be checking the chips’ destination, but added, “what I can say today [is] the chips are not meant to be in Malaysia in the first place. So the question is, why is it going out of Singapore?”
