The smartphone launched with a 6.82-inch 2K BOE Q10 8T LTPO 2.0 OLED display with a 144Hz refresh rate. Recent leaks and reports have highlighted key expected features of its successor. While it would logically be named the iQOO 14, some rumours suggest that the company might skip “14” and launch it as the iQOO 15 instead. A new leak has now surfaced suggesting key display specifications of the anticipated phone. Alleged iQOO 15 Pro Features (Expected) An upcoming iQOO flagship handset will likely sport a flat 6.85-inch 2K LTPO OLED display, according to a now edited Weibo post (via) by tipster Digital Chat Station. The display panel is tipped to be sourced from Samsung Display Company (SDC). It is expected to come with LIPO (Low-Temperature Polycrystalline Oxide) technology that is said to improve the display performance, including its power efficiency. The purported iQOO flagship handset is speculated to be the iQOO 15 Pro, based on the size of the screen. The iQOO 15 series (previously reported as the iQOO 14 lineup) had been tipped to include a base and a Pro variant. An earlier Weibo post by tipster Smart Pikachu suggested that the iQOO 15 Pro may launch by the end of the year, likely in December 2025, and may sport a 2K display with eye protection features. The handset is expected to have a “re-enhanced periscope telephoto” camera and an in-display ultrasonic fingerprint sensor. The phone could also pack a 7,000mAh battery. The iQOO 13 is powered by a Snapdragon 8 Elite SoC and has a 6,150mAh battery with 120W wired fast charging support. It is equipped with an in-display ultrasonic fingerprint sensor and a 6.82-inch 2K BOE Q10 8T LTPO 2.0 OLED display with a 144Hz refresh rate and HDR support. For optics, it has a 50-megapixel main sensor with optical image stabilisation (OIS), a 50-megapixel sensor telephoto shooter, and a 50-megapixel ultra-wide camera with OIS support at the back and a 32-megapixel sensor at the front. 2. Stocks tank globally as ****-for-tat tariffs begin Stocks tank globally as ****-for-tat tariffs begin U.S. President Donald Trump gestures as he walks to board Air Force One to depart Washington from Joint Base Andrews in Maryland, Feb. 28, 2025. Kevin Lamarque | Reuters “Tariffs” may be the most beautiful word in the dictionary for U.S. President Donald Trump, but it is one that stokes fear in investors. Risk-on assets such as stocks and cryptocurrency sank Monday after Trump refused to pardon Canada and Mexico from a hefty 25% duty on all goods imported from both countries. In the markets, the S&P 500 fell the most since Dec. 18 and is testing its 200-day moving average, generally seen as a support level — meaning that if the index dips below that line, it could fall even further. Bitcoin sank below $90,000, erasing in a flash its 10% gain from Trump’s announcement on Sunday of the creation of a U.S. strategic crypto reserve. Across the Atlantic, however, European leaders playing defense against Trump’s overtures seem to be boosting the continent’s markets. The regional Stoxx 600 outperformed the S&P 500 for February. And with defense stocks rising, the Stoxx 600 had another leg-up on Monday. Still, as Trump’s tariff announcement came after European markets closed, they could react badly on Tuesday when the tariffs go into effect officially. Investors should brace themselves for more potential volatility. What you need to know today ****-for-tat tariffsU.S. President Donald Trump said the 25% tariffs on Canada and Mexico will be implemented on Tuesday after a monthslong pause. In retaliation, Canada will impose on Tuesday a 25% tariff on 155 billion ********* dollars ($107 billion) worth of U.S. goods, the country’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said Monday. China also announced Tuesday an additional 15% tariff on U.S. goods, such as agricultural products, and will restrict exports to 15 U.S. companies. S&P now in the red in 2025On Monday, the S&P 500 fell 1.76%, its worst day since December, and is now in the red in 2025. The Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 1.48% and the Nasdaq Composite tumbled 2.64%. Bitcoin slumped 12% to around $82,000 as of early Asia trading. Asia-Pacific stocks dropped Tuesday. Japan’s Nikkei 225 retreated around 1.2% and South Korea’s Kospi index index slipped 0.15%. Both benchmarks were weighed down by falls in tech- and chip-related stocks, such as Japan’s Advantest and South Korea’s SK Hynix. Arrests over Nvidia chips Singapore authorities detained three people late last week on charges of deliberately misrepresenting the final destination of U.S.-manufactured servers, likely containing Nvidia’s highly sought-after chips, said the country’s Home Affairs and Law Minister K Shanmugam on Monday, adding that servers were shipped to Malaysia. On Tuesday, Tengku Zafrul Aziz, Malaysia’s minister for investment, trade and industry, told CNBC that authorities have no information that data center companies operating in Malaysia are “not using the chips that they are supposed to be using.” Shares of Nvidia sank 8.7% Monday. TSMC’s $100 billion investment in U.S.Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing will invest $100 billion in the U.S. to build five new fabrication facilities in Arizona, Trump announced Monday, calling the investment a “tremendous move by the most powerful company in the world.” The new capital brings TSMC’s total investment in the U.S. to $165 billion. Trump has repeatedly called out and accused Taiwan of stealing the U.S. chip manufacturing business. Trump stops flow of military aid to UkraineTrump is halting U.S. military aid to Ukraine, a White House official said Monday. The official, who requested to be unnamed, added that the president is “focused on peace” and the Trump administration is assessing U.S. assistance “to ensure that it is contributing to a solution.” On Friday, Trump’s meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy degenerated into a shouting match, and the latter left without a deal toward peace. [PRO] Worries over 200-day moving average Technical analysts who watch price charts worry that the S&P 500 could soon test its 200-day moving average. The broad-based index’s beating on Monday confirmed how fragile the market setup is at the start of a new month, analysts said. Here’s why that technical level matters to investors. And finally… A packet of antibiotics and various other medicines on a table in a pharmacy. Picture Alliance | Picture Alliance | Getty Images ‘Tariff taskforce’: Pharma firms scramble to prepare even as Trump levies risk flouting WTO rules U.S. President Donald Trump on Wednesday signaled that the European Union may be next to face sweeping 25% tariffs. It came a week after Trump said he was considering a flat charge of around 25% on all pharmaceutical, auto and chip imports. However, according to the WTO’s 1994 Pharma Agreement, most pharmaceutical products and the substances used to produce them are exempt from tariffs, binding them at duty-free levels. Nonetheless, ******* healthcare company Fresenius Medical Care says that it has installed its first-ever “tariff taskforce” to manage uncertainty surrounding U.S. President Donald Trump’s proposed trade charges, with some production likely to be directly impacted Meanwhile, Swiss-American pharmaceutical company Alcon was “paying very close attention” to levies, CEO David Endicott said. 3. Hideki Kamiya Still Wants To Develop Scalebound with Xbox Hideki Kamiya Still Wants To Develop Scalebound with Xbox In a recent post on social media, Hideki Kamiya, who founded CLOVERS Inc. after leaving PlatinumGames in 2023, revealed that he’d still love to make Scalebound. The ill-fated RPG was cancelled in 2017 after years of discussions and rumours, but it seems that the Japanese gaming legend hasn’t forgotten about it – to the point that he still wants to make it. Scalebound was in development at PlatinumGames for around four years before it was ultimately cancelled, and Kamiya was the game’s director. This isn’t the first time that the industry icon has pleaded for Xbox to pick the project up again, though. Shot Down PlatinumGames is famous for the creation of titles like Niear and Bayonetta, but Scalebound would have been a more ambitious game on a different level entirely. In Scalebound, players would have explored a world populated by dragons – and dragonriders. It was announced in 2014 with a trailer dropping at E3 (which has since died a death), and prospective fans were excited. The year before Scalebound was revealed, Microsoft penned a deal with Platinum, assuming control of Scalebound in exchange for pumping cash into the coffers to build it. It was shaped around a third-person action-RPG model, and it looked good enough on the surface, but it was ultimately cancelled by Microsoft in 2017. It was cited that the game’s stoppage was caused by issues with the Unreal Engine, ‘an inability to live up to player expectations’, and a lack of experience at the studio creating some of the game’s core elements. But along came Hideki Kamiya, almost a decade after that cancellation, saying he still wants to make Scalebound: Let’s do it, Phil ! His cry of ‘Let’s do it, Phil!’ came following a post from CLOVERS Inc. on Twitter. This post revealed that the team at CLOVERS was banded around Kamiya’s desk, reminiscing about Scalebound while watching videos of the game on YouTube. In the snippet, he said, ‘I’d love to make it again someday.’ In 2023, it was suggested in a discussion on a podcast that a revival of Scalebound could be on the way, but we’ve heard nothing since. Based on everything we know about Scalebound, would you like to see it made and finally released? Let us know in the comments what you think. 5. Clean Monday: Flying Kites and Welcoming Lent in Greece Clean Monday: Flying Kites and Welcoming Lent in Greece As winter fades and the first signs of spring begin to appear, Greece celebrates Clean Monday (Kathara Deftera), a day that marks the beginning of Lent and is deeply rooted in tradition. It is a day of renewal, cleansing, and joyful outdoor gatherings, setting the tone for the 40-day fasting ******* leading up to Easter. Clean Monday falls on the first day of Great Lent in the Orthodox Christian calendar, typically seven weeks before Easter Sunday. It is called “clean” because it symbolizes spiritual and physical purification, a fresh start after the indulgences of Carnival (Apokries). Families refrain from consuming meat and dairy products, following the traditional Lenten diet of seafood, vegetables, legumes, and unleavened bread. One of the most picturesque customs associated with Clean Monday is kite flying. On this day, the sky over Greece fills with colorful kites as families head to parks, hills, and beaches to take part in this joyful activity. The tradition is believed to represent the soul’s journey towards purification and closeness to the divine. The higher the kite soars, the better the wishes for the coming ******* of spiritual reflection and renewal. The special foods enjoyed on Clean Monday are a highlight of the celebration. The menu includes lagana, a flat, unleavened bread baked only for this day, as well as taramosalata (a ******* fish roe dip), dolmadakia (stuffed vine leaves), and an array of fresh vegetables and olives. Seafood like octopus, shrimp, and calamari is also common, as it is permitted during Lent. For dessert, halva, a sweet semolina or tahini-based treat, is a must. While Clean Monday is celebrated across Greece, experiencing it in Santorini adds a unique charm. Locals gather in scenic spots such as Profitis Ilias Hill, Vlychada Beach, or Oia’s open fields, launching their kites against the backdrop of the endless caldera blue. Whether in a family gathering or a quiet seaside picnic, the essence of Clean Monday in Santorini is one of freedom and a deep connection to both nature and tradition. Clean Monday is more than just a fun-filled day outdoors; it carries the deeper meaning of renewal and preparation for the spiritual journey ahead. Whether you’re flying a kite, savoring Lenten delicacies, or simply embracing the calm of nature, the essence of the day remains the same—a moment to cleanse, reflect, and welcome the season of Lent with open hearts. If you find yourself in Greece, or even better, in Santorini, during this time, don’t miss the chance to take part in these beautiful traditions! Historic ship completes first leg of journey to become world’s largest artificial reef Historic ship completes first leg of journey to become world’s largest artificial reef The historic, aging ocean liner that a Florida county plans to turn into the world’s largest artificial reef has completed the first leg of its final voyage. The SS United States, a 1,000-foot (305-meter) vessel that shattered the trans-Atlantic speed record on its maiden voyage in 1952, arrived early Monday in Mobile, Alabama, nearly two weeks after departing from south Philadelphia’s Delaware River. The ship was due to arrive at a repair facility in Mobile later Monday. Crews will spend about six months cleaning and preparing the ship before it is eventually sunk off Florida’s Gulf Coast. Trusted news and daily delights, right in your inbox See for yourself — The Yodel is the go-to source for daily news, entertainment and feel-good stories. The 1,800-mile (2,897-kilometer) move south started on Feb. 19, about four months after a years-old rent dispute was resolved between the conservancy that oversees the ship and its landlord. Plans to move the vessel last November were delayed over U.S. Coast Guard concerns about whether the ship was stable enough to make the trip. Officials in Okaloosa County on Florida’s coastal Panhandle hope the ship will become a barnacle-encrusted standout among the county’s more than 500 artificial reefs and a signature diving attraction that could generate millions of dollars annually in local tourism spending for scuba shops, charter fishing boats and hotels. Officials have said the deal to buy the ship could eventually cost more than $10 million. The SS United States was once considered a beacon of American engineering, doubling as a military vessel that could carry thousands of troops. Its maiden voyage broke the trans-Atlantic speed record in both directions when it reached an average speed of 36 knots, or just over 41 mph (66 kph), The Associated Press reported from aboard the ship. The ship crossed the Atlantic Ocean in three days, 10 hours and 40 minutes, besting the RMS Queen Mary’s time by 10 hours. To this day, the SS United States holds the trans-Atlantic speed record for an ocean liner. The SS United States became a reserve ship in 1969 and later bounced between various private owners who hoped to redevelop it. They eventually found their plans too expensive or poorly timed, leaving the vessel looming for years on south Philadelphia’s Delaware River waterfront. 21. ‘Wherever we look, we find it’ ‘Wherever we look, we find it’ Water experts and providers are pushing for a broad ban on PFAS, or “forever chemicals,” which stay in our environment for years, The Guardian reported. These substances can be found in thousands of everyday products and are increasingly showing up in our water. The Water Services Association of Australia wants PFAS banned from non-essential consumer items. “We need to reduce now, as much as possible, how much PFAS is in the environment,” said Adam Lovell, the association’s executive director. He added that water providers are “deeply concerned about the levels of PFAS that are being allowed to enter the country through thousands of everyday household and industrial chemicals and products.” A ban would help protect both people and wildlife from these dangerous substances. Ian Wright of Western Sydney University has found PFAS in platypuses, noting that “wherever we look, we find it.” His research shows these chemicals move up through the food chain, reaching humans. Meanwhile, New South Wales has identified 51 sites with major PFAS contamination that require ongoing cleanup. Watch now: Giant snails invading New York City? For families, this ban would mean safer drinking water and lower future costs. Removing PFAS from water supplies is extremely expensive. Treating just 1 kilogram of PFAS that has entered a wastewater system costs between $4 million and $25 million. These costs eventually hit consumers through higher water bills. Some industries may worry about finding safe alternatives for their products. However, supporters point to European countries that have already successfully implemented broad PFAS bans. They also note that the targeted approach of banning specific PFAS has backfired, with companies switching to similar but less-researched replacements. “We need to ban them as a class,” Nicholas Chartres of The University of Sydney said. How often do you worry about the quality of your drinking water? Never Sometimes Often Always Click your choice to see results and speak your mind. Starting July 1, Australia will ban three PFAS, showing progress toward cleaner water for all. New drinking water guidelines with updated limits for these substances will be finalized later in 2025. “Ultimately it comes down to the health evidence, and what our local advisory committee advises us is the most certain evidence to base the guideline values on,” Kristal Jackson of the National Health and Medical Research Council said. 22. Trump tariffs could break WTO rules but pharma scrambles to prepare Trump tariffs could break WTO rules but pharma scrambles to prepare A packet of antibiotics and various other medicines lie on a table in a pharmacy. Picture Alliance | Picture Alliance | Getty Images Europe’s pharmaceutical firms are rushing to prepare for the potential fallout of U.S. import duties, with some forming “tariff taskforces,” even as analysts warn that levies on the sector could break global trade rules. Fresenius Medical Care says that it has installed its first-ever “tariff taskforce” to manage uncertainty surrounding U.S. President Donald Trump’s proposed trade charges, with some production likely to be directly impacted. “Clearly we’re looking at what happens to the tariffs in Europe and what also happens to tariffs [on] medical equipment,” CEO Helen Giza told CNBC’s “Squawk Box Europe” last week. “The escalation and speed of this, with the executive orders, is something we assembled pretty quickly,” Giza said of the taskforce. President Trump on Wednesday signaled that the European Union may be next to face sweeping 25% tariffs on its exports to the U.S., mirroring similar threats toward Canada and Mexico. It came a week after Trump said he was considering a flat charge of around 25% on all pharmaceutical, auto and chip imports. The suggestion has prompted concern from some analysts, who say that such duties on the pharma industry would mark an infringement of rules set by the World Trade Organization — which counts the U.S. as a member. According to the WTO’s 1994 Pharma Agreement, the majority of pharmaceutical products and the substances used to produce them are exempt from tariffs, binding them at duty-free levels. However, Diederik Stadig, sector economist at ING, said that provision might not be enough to prevent the White House leader’s plans. “I do not think the WTO infringement would be enough to prompt an exemption from reciprocal tariffs,” Stadig told CNBC by email on Monday, dubbing the launch of tariff taskforces a “prudent business move.” “It seems like the Trump administration doesn’t really care [if it breaks WTO rules],” Soren Lontoft, pharma equity analyst at Sydbank, told CNBC by phone on Friday. A spokesperson for the White House did not immediately respond to CNBC’s request for comment on the possibility of a trade infringement. A spokesperson for the WTO Secretariat said that it “does not comment on the specific actions of our members, whether proposed or actual,” but added that participants could raise concerns about other member’s actions or initiate dispute settlement proceedings. Tariff taskforces The uncertainty around Trump’s proposals — and their feasibility — serves as a major headache for European firms. European pharmaceutical companies would be among the hardest hit by sweeping tariffs on the sector. The U.S. consumed around $560 billion worth of pharmaceutical products in 2024, more than one third of which were imported, primarily from Ireland, Germany and Switzerland, according to ING calculations. “These are the countries that are going to be hit particularly hard should the threat become a reality,” Stadig wrote in a note last month. Germany’s Fresenius Medical Care said that tariffs would likely hit the group’s supply of dialysis machines and consumable products to the U.S., even as some of the company’s U.S.-based manufacturing remains insulated. Alcon CEO David Endicott said the Swiss-American pharmaceutical and medical device company was “paying very close attention” to levies. Despite seeing limited exposure on a direct, import-export level, Endicott pointed to potential concerns around the firm’s supply chains, including raw material imports. “We don’t see a big exposure here, but it’s a dynamic time,” he told CNBC on Wednesday. Brian McNamara, CEO of British multinational consumer healthcare company Haleon, meanwhile said Thursday that though much of the firm’s U.S. sales derive from domestic production, the business was “working through what the impact might be” of tariffs on one of its plants in Canada and several more in Europe. One of the stated aims of Trump’s tariffs is to boost domestic U.S. manufacturing, by encouraging firms to locate their production. On Monday, Pfizer’s CEO suggested that the U.S. drug maker could move some of its overseas manufacturing to its U.S. plants to mitigate higher costs. “If something happens, we will try to mitigate it by transferring from manufacturing sites outside to the manufacturing sites here,” Albert Bourla told TD Cowen’s annual healthcare conference. Still, economists have questioned the logic of such a strategy and the ability of firms to ramp up capacity in the president’s desired timeframe. “It will take time to build manufacturing plants and use idle manufacturing capacity,” Stadig said. “Second, the economies of scale for generic API [active pharmaceutical ingredients] production in India and China are so significant that even with a 25% tariff the production of generic APIs is not necessarily cheaper in the U.S. Third, it will prove difficult to quickly source raw materials.” Meantime, others have warned that additional levies will only serve to push up prices in the already costly U.S. healthcare sector. “Many companies have a global supply chain, so in one way or another it will hurt either the companies or the patients, or other members of the quite complex U.S. health care system,” Sydbank’s Lontoft said.
