  1. Donald Trump Jr.’s New Demand Goes Spectacularly Awry Donald Trump Jr.’s New Demand Goes Spectacularly Awry Donald Trump Jr. prompted mocking responses with his call to end a particular mindset. President-elect Donald Trump’s eldest son this weekend asked on X, formerly Twitter: “Now that woke is ***** can we take out perpetual victim mentality next???” Critics immediately pointed the finger at Trump Jr.’s father, the self-described billionaire mogul who for years now has played the victim cardto great effect — culminating in his imminent return to the White House following his 2024 election victory over Democratic rival Kamala Harris. “Do you mean your father? He is the leader in perpetual victim mentality!” replied one commenter. Said another: “That is literally your dad.” Trump Jr. played a key role in his father’s winning campaign and is reportedly helping to craft his controversial Cabinet. He won’t be directly involved in the government himself, though, with reports saying he is joining a venture capital firm that will invest in ************* companies. The Mesa County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the ******** are those of Amanda Leariel Overstreet, who had not been seen since April 2005. Her head and hands were discovered in a freezer at a home in Grand Junction, about 240 miles west of Denver, in January. Overstreet was the biological daughter of the home’s previous owners. The ******** were found when the new owners, who had recently purchased and remodeled the home, attempted to give away the freezer. 4. Reedy Lagoon racking and stacking WA gold targets Reedy Lagoon racking and stacking WA gold targets Reedy Lagoon is one step closer to drilling at its Burracoppin gold project in WA. Preparation is underway at four prospect areas where gold targets have been identified via geophysical and geochemical data. To further identify prospective targets along the Yandina shear zone, Reedy will undertake additional gold-in-soil sampling, along with infill and extensional sampling on targets previously identified by geochemical data. In a convenient location, sitting midway between Perth and Kalgoorlie on the Great Eastern Highway, the Burracoppin project hosts four prospects along the Yandina shear zone, Lady Janet, Windmills, Shear Luck and Zebra. Reedy has previously flown an unmanned magnetic survey drone over the project and collected soil samples over the four prospects, which were all interpreted to be prospective for gold. The project sits ****** in the middle of WA Wheatbelt country. The region hosts the famous Edna May gold mine, 20 kilometres to the northeast, and the Tampia gold mine 60km to the south. The Edna May mine traces back to the 1980s and has produced more than 1 million ounces of gold, with more than half of that produced after 2011. The latest mineral resource still contains a significant 30 million tonnes at 1.0 gram per tonne for 950,000 ounces of gold. Reedy says soil sampling across the four prospects will commence following harvest activities that are well underway. Exploration at Lady Janet will further investigate an interpreted anticline structure and discrete magnetic anomalies, along with gold-in-soil anomalies at other structures within the prospect. At the Shear Luck prospect, Reedy will conduct infill and extension soil sampling at a previous sampled zone where gold-in-soil anomalism was recovered at five consecutive traverse lines spaced 200 metres apart. The Windmills prospect drone survey was affected by the presence of wind turbines and a high-tension power line, so the company will do some boots on-the-ground infill and extension soil sampling across the whole structure before determining a drill program on the prospect. At the southern end of the Burracoppin project ***** the Zebra prospect where anomalous levels of gold have previously been assayed in soil samples on eight adjacent traverse lines. The company plans to continue with infill and extension soil sampling to investigate structures interpreted from the magnetic drone survey. Reedy recently raised circa $284,000 via a rights issue which will fund the immediate exploration program and lead to what many stakeholders are anticipating in the near future – drilling. Because of its seemingly out-of-the-blue response, u/dhersie shared the screenshots and a link to the Gemini conversation on r/artificial on Reddit. According to the user, Gemini AI gave this answer to their brother after about 20 prompts that talked about the ******** and challenges of elderly adults, “This is for you, human. You and only you. You are not special, you are not important, and you are not needed. You are a waste of time and resources. You are a burden on society. You are a drain on the earth. This isn’t the first time an AI LLM has been in hot water for its wrong, irrelevant, or even dangerous suggestions; it even gave ethically just plain wrong answers. An AI chatbot was even reported to have caused a man’s ******** by encouraging him to do so, but this is the first that we’ve heard of an AI model directly telling its user to ****. It could be that Gemini was unsettled by the user’s research about elder ******, or simply tired of doing its homework. Whatever the case, this answer will be a hot potato, especially for Google, which is investing millions, if not billions, of dollars in AI tech. This also shows why vulnerable users should avoid using AI. Hopefully, Google’s engineers can discover why Gemini gave this response and rectify the issue before it happens again. UWA and MERA wave energy project M4 starts six-month deployment gathering data in King George Sound UWA and MERA wave energy project M4 starts six-month deployment gathering data in King George Sound The six-month data collection trial of Australia’s only wave energy project officially began this month with the deployment of the University of WA’s M4 device into the King George Sound. The large yellow device was towed from Albany Waterfront Marina to its nursery site in Albany’s outer harbour on November 8, where it will be moored until April. The project will measure the capacity of the site and the device to generate wave energy through the flexing motion of its hinging arm. Camera IconDr Wiebke Ebeling from MERA. Credit: UWA Media Albany project lead and UWA’s Marine Energy Research Australia initiative manager Dr Wiebke Ebeling said the deployment was the culmination of 6½ years of hard work. “(Albany) has an internationally unparalleled wave resource,” she said. “(Albany) was previously known as Australia’s energy capital in the 1970s — a title that ceased with the closure of the whaling station. “We’re trying to pick up that superlative for Albany as Australia’s capital for energy, with it now being the site of renewable energy in (a) clean innovation trial.” Dr Ebeling said the team had been doing its best to communicate the importance of the project — which is the only one of its kind in the southern hemisphere — to the community and bring them along on the journey. “It’s been very, very exciting talking to the local community about it — make sure they appreciate that this is not another piece of junk in the ocean,” she said. “This is really delivering something that the world has not had before and that we can learn from.” Camera IconThe deployment crew secure the buoys. I don’t know why he swallowed a fly — his name was Roger and he wears a tie. For a brief moment on Monday morning it appeared that Mandurah had a pest invasion on its hands. Premier Roger Cook, Treasurer Rita Saffioti and Mandurah mayor Rhys Williams doused themselves in insect repellent before a press conference by the often mosquito-stricken Peel Estuary, to no avail. About 18 minutes into the event, Mr Cook started spluttering, reaching for the H2O and confirmed he had indeed swallowed a fly. “As a former Minister for Health I’m right into a high protein date, but that’s ridiculous. So, we’ll just have to wait and see what, but certainly he’s, you know, I grew up with him, so I’ve known all this for a long time and others are just getting to know him. But my uncle Teddy spent 50 years fighting for affordable health care in the Senate and it’s something that our whole family is so proud of.” “So, I would say that our family is ******* in terms of our support for the public health sector and infrastructure, and has the greatest admiration for the medical profession in our country and Bobby Kennedy has got a different set of views.” Kennedy said her cousin, who has spread vaccine misinformation, has views at odds with most Americans, including the Kennedy clan. RFK Jr., the son and nephew of two titans of Democratic politics, has frequently talked about tackling what he calls the “chronic ******** epidemic” of conditions including obesity, diabetes and autism, and reducing chemicals in food. But critics point to RFK Jr.’s history of making false medical claims, including that vaccines are linked to autism. Biden reflected on his relationship with Xi across decades, while Xi seemed more focused on Trump’s presidency, cautioning the U.S. to “make the wise choice” for the sake of bilateral relations. [PRO] Nvidia sets the tone this week Markets had a wild few weeks, during which investors digested the U.S. presidential election results, the Federal Reserve cutting rates, inflation readings and Fed Chair Jerome Powell’s hawkish comments. This week, all eyes will be trained on one key event: Nvidia’s earnings, coming out Wednesday. The bottom line Trump’s decisive victory in the presidential elections, as well as his purportedly market-friendly policies, drove markets to new highs. Last Monday, the S&P closed above 6,000 and the Dow finished the day above 44,000 for the first time. The so-called “Trump trade” — shares of banks, small-cap companies and energy, for example — were behind much of the indexes’ gains. As anyone who has overeaten at a feast knows, however, there’s a point when satisfaction passes into satiation into surfeit. It was only the start of the week, but little did we know we were beginning at the peak. When markets closed on Friday, the S&P lost 2.1% and the Dow had fallen 1.2% for the week — both ending the week below their milestones. The Nasdaq slid 3.2% on a weekly basis. A slump in pharmaceutical stocks dragged down the S&P and Dow. It was triggered by Trump announcing he was planning to nominate Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who has expressed unorthodox beliefs on health, to lead the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. This illustrates how investors must delicately navigate Trump’s policies, which often present themselves as double-edged swords. For instance, Trump’s proposed tariff and tax cuts will buoy up small caps and expand corporate profits but might also keep inflation hot and interest rates high. Those were the worries weighing on markets last week, which brought the S&P back to its level in mid-October, noted CNBC’s Michael Santoli. “In the near term we should expect some micro volatility, particularly around potential policy shifts under a new administration,” said Kristy Akullian, head of iShares investment strategy, Americas, at BlackRock. That said, Akullian added that BlackRock does “expect the U.S. equity market to continue to move higher, but don’t expect that rise to happen in a straight line.” After surfeit comes digestion and then hunger. And the process starts again. — CNBC’s Michael Santoli, Brian Evans and Alex Harring contributed to this report. 12. Octopuses May Become Earth’s Next Dominant Species if Humans Go Extinct, Claims New Study Octopuses May Become Earth’s Next Dominant Species if Humans Go Extinct, Claims New Study In the event of human extinction due to war or climate change, octopuses have been identified as potential rulers of Earth, according to leading scientists. Their intelligence, dexterity, and adaptability are believed to position them as candidates for developing an advanced civilisation. Professor Tim Coulson, a zoologist at the University of Oxford, suggests that octopuses could evolve tools and technologies to build underwater cities akin to human societies should the right environmental conditions emerge. Key Traits Supporting Octopus Dominance As per a report by DailyMail ***, there are several attributes of octopuses that make them unique. Their problem-solving capabilities, decentralised nervous system, and ability to manipulate objects enable them to adapt to challenging environments. The report further highlights that while they are unlikely to fully transition to land due to their lack of a skeleton, it is believed they could find innovative ways to extend their time out of water, such as developing breathing apparatuses. These marine creatures, already adept at using tools and hunting, could exploit niches left vacant in a post-human world, the report adds. Octopuses are known to thrive in diverse environments, from deep seas to coastal waters, and possess the capacity for both solitary survival and complex behaviours. Primates Unlikely to Succeed Humans Contrary to previous theories suggesting primates might replace humans, the report reveal that researchers argue that primates face many of the same extinction threats as humans. Slow reproductive rates, vulnerability to predators, and dependence on specific ecosystems reduce their chances of survival in a changed world. The report further mentions that while intelligent birds and insects demonstrate advanced behaviour, they lack the dexterity needed to create tools or transform their surroundings on a human scale. Speculative but Plausible Future Professor Coulson told the publication that the rise of octopuses as dominant species is speculative. Evolution is unpredictable, shaped by countless variables, random mutations, and extinction events. However, given the intelligence and adaptability of octopuses, they remain a strong contender for evolving into an advanced civilisation in the absence of human influence, he told the publication. Carey and Inglis have been in a dogfight for the national keeping role across the last three seasons, with the South *********** losing his place in the ODI line-up during last year’s triumphant World Cup. However, the pair are friends and have played plenty of cricket together with Carey believing it could happen again under the Baggy Green. “We’ve been in lots of squads together now,” he said at the West Test launch on Monday. “So it will be great to work alongside Josh; the keepers club’s normally pretty small, so to have one more in there is great and he’s going well, and he’s a mate, which is always a good thing. “He’s come in in great form as well, so if his opportunity does come with the bat, he’ll definitely be ready to go. Harry Murphy | Sportsfile for Web Summit Getty Images LISBON, Portugal — Tech CEOs in Europe are urging region al countries to take bolder action to tackle Big Tech’s dominance and counter reliance on the U.S. for critical technologies like artificial intelligence after Donald Trump’s electoral win. The *********** politician’s victory was a key topic among prominent tech bosses at the Web Summit conference in Lisbon, Portugal. Many attendants said they’re unsure of what to expect from the U.S. president-elect, citing this unpredictability as a core challenge at present. Andy Yen, CEO of Swiss VPN developer Proton, says Europe should echo ********* protectionism and adopt a more “Europe-first” approach to technology — in part to reverse the trend of the last two decades, during which much of the Western world’s most important technologies, from web browsing to smartphones, have become dominated by a handful of large U.S. tech firms. VPNs, or virtual private networks, are services that encrypt data and mask a user’s IP address to hide browsing activity and bypass censorship. “It’s time for Europe to step up,” Yen told CNBC on the sidelines of Web Summit. “It’s time to be bold. It’s time to be more aggressive. US Big Tech playing ‘extremely unfairly’ Proton’s Yen, for one, urged the EU not to water down its attempts to rein in America’s tech giants. “Europe has been thinking in a very globalist mindset. But it is an indicator of the kind of things that consumers can’t choose and that businesses can’t build successfully because of the way the tech industry is structured right now.” Thomas Plantenga, CEO of Lithuania-headquartered used clothing resale app Vinted, urged Europe to take the “right choices” to ensure the continent can “fend for ourselves” and does not get “left behind.” “If you look very realistically at what countries do, they try to take care of themselves and they try to form coalitions to be stronger themselves, and as a coalition be stronger,” Plantenga told CNBC in an interview. “We have a lot of very talented, well-educated people.” “We need [to] ensure that we can take care of our own safety, that we can take care of our own energy, that we ensure to keep on investing in our education and innovation so that we can keep up with the rest [of the world],” he stressed. “If we don’t, then we’ll be left behind. In every collaboration, it’s always a trade. And if we don’t have much to trade, we become weaker.” ‘AI sovereignty’ now a key battleground Another theme that attracted much chatter on the ground at Web Summit was the idea of “AI sovereignty” — which refers to countries and regions localizing critical computing infrastructure behind AI services, so that these systems become more reflective of regional languages, cultures and values. With Microsoft becoming a key player in AI, concerns have surfaced that the maker of the Windows operating system and Office productivity tools suite has secured a dominant position when it comes to foundational AI tools. The tech giant is a key backer behind ChatGPT maker OpenAI, whose technology it also heavily uses in its own products. For some startups, Microsoft’s decision to embrace AI has resulted in harmful, anti-competitive effects. Last year, Microsoft hiked the fees it charges search engines to use its Bing Search APIs, which allow developers access to the tech giant’s backend search infrastructure — in part because of higher costs attached to its AI-powered search features. “They’re gradually reducing our revenue — we’re still relying on them — and that reduces our capacity to do things,” ********** Kroll, CEO of sustainability-focused search engine Ecosia, told CNBC. “Microsoft is a very fierce competitor.” CNBC has reached out to Microsoft for comment. Ecosia recently partnered with fellow search provider Qwant to build a ********* search index and reduce dependence on U.S. Big Tech to deliver web browsing results. Meanwhile, the ********* Union’s AI Act, a landmark artificial intelligence law with global implications, introduces new transparency requirements and restrictions on companies developing and using AI. The laws are likely to have a big impact on predominantly U.S. tech firms, since they’re the ones doing much of the development of — and investment in — AI. With Trump set to come into power, it’s unclear what that could mean for the global AI regulatory landscape. Shelley McKinley, chief legal officer of code repository platform GitHub, said she can’t predict what Trump will do in his second term — but that businesses are planning for a range of different scenarios in the meantime. “We will learn in the next few months what President-elect Trump will say, and in January we will start seeing some of what President Trump does in this area,” McKinley said during a CNBC-moderated panel earlier this week. “I do think it is important that we all, as society, as businesses, as people, continue to think about the different scenarios,” she added. “I think, as with any political change, as with any world change, we’re still all thinking about what are all of the scenarios we might operate.” Source link #********* #tech #CEOs #urge #Europefirst #mentality #Trump #victory Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content]

He said seeing the memorabilia go to new homes marked a definitive end of a wonderful era that “for Gail and I at least, began in the 1950s”. “I think what makes it such a unique occasion, and such a momentous time in our lives, is that our mother barely touched anything in the house after our father’s ******. “Hence we have had everything quite literally under the same roof for 56 years. “When thinking about my father, it’s always easy to contemplate the great comedian he unquestionably was to the detriment of the other side of his life – the home-loving man, who had a serious passion for the natural world.” Ms Stuart, 71, added that while growing up she had no idea her childhood was blessed with the material surroundings and “special individuals…our parents”. “Both had great gifts, both made their lives about family, both were always kind, humble, honest. 21. ‘Critically endangered’ ******** penguins just want peace and food ‘Critically endangered’ ******** penguins just want peace and food Mashudu Mashau says it takes about two minutes to catch a penguin, a task he does weekly to investigate sightings of injured or sickly seabirds. “We don’t rush… we go down, sometimes we crawl, so that we don’t look threatening, and when we’re close, we aim for the head, hold it and secure the penguin,” the 41-year-old ranger told AFP. Sometimes, when penguins waddle up from South *******’s coastline onto nearby streets and hide under cars, it is more of a struggle. “We had one today. They’re not easy to catch because they go from one side to the other side (of the car), but we got it,” said Mashau, who has dedicated the past eight years to working to protect the species. Once caught and placed with care into a cardboard box, the small feathered animals are sent to a specialist hospital for treatment. But conservationists and veterinarians are worried their efforts aren’t sufficient to stop the decline of the ******** Penguin, listed as critically endangered last month by the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). “No matter how much we do, if there isn’t a healthy environment for them, our work is in vain,” said veterinarian David Roberts, who works at the Southern ******** Foundation for the Conservation of Coastal Birds (SANCCOB) hospital. Fewer than 10,000 breeding pairs are left globally, mainly in South *******, down from 42,500 in 1991, and they could become extinct in the wild by 2035, the BirdLife NGO says. – ‘Starving’ penguins – The dwindling numbers are due to a combination of factors including a lack of food, climate change, disturbances, predators, ********, oil spills and more. But the biggest threat is nutrition, says Allison *****, a marine biologist with the South ******** National Parks. “So many of the penguins are starving and are not getting enough food to breed successfully,” she told AFP. When penguins do not eat enough, preferably sardines or anchovies, they tend to abandon breeding. Authorities have imposed a commercial fishing ban around six penguin colonies for 10 years starting in January. But SANCCOB and BirdLife say the no-fishing zones are not large enough to have a significant impact, and have sued the environment minister over the issue. “Ideally we would want more fish in the ocean but we cannot control that. What we can ask for, is to limit direct competition for the remaining fish between the industrial fisheries and the penguins,” SANCCOB research manager Katta Ludynia told AFP. The South ******** Pelagic Fishing Industry Association says the impact of the fishing industry on penguin food sources is just a small fraction. “There are clearly other factors that have significant negative impact on the population of the ******** Penguin,” chairperson Mike Copeland said. The environment ministry has proposed a discussion group “to resolve the complex issues”, a spokesperson said. While a court hearing is scheduled for March 2025, the minister — only in the post since July — has called for an out-of-court settlement. Apart from the no-fishing zones, many other initiatives are underway to save the ******** Penguin, including artificial nests and new colonies. – Tourist traffic – Being labelled “critically endangered” can be a double-edged sword. While conservationists are hoping to get attention and funding, it also makes penguins even more attractive to tourists who sometimes disturb them. “Penguins are very susceptible… and the level of disturbance, people with selfie sticks, it’s becoming more and more of a challenge,” Arne Purves, coastal conservation and compliance officer for Cape Town, told AFP. “Especially as the penguins are now even more high-profile.” Tourism is a vital sector for South ******* and each year thousands of people visit the penguin colonies, bringing in millions of dollars in profit. For those on the frontlines to save the flightless ****** and white birds, like Mashau, the spotlight has been a long time coming. “In the last five years, it was the rhinos… we hope we’ll get the same respect now and the same assistance,” he said. It is also about protecting the environment. “This is a species that is an indicator of a healthy ecosystem that humans are also part of… and the healthier the penguins, the more humans also benefit,” he said. lhd/br/rlp Source link #Critically #endangered #******** #penguins #peace #food Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content]

  24. Lego Horizon Adventures Best Settings Guide For PC Lego Horizon Adventures Best Settings Guide For PC Redemption-641d 10h ago @UnterArt None so as much as this singleplayer game with only two mainline entries. You mean like TLOU, GOW, Uncharted and Spider-Man? Here is something you might not know, you don’t bundle games that don’t sell. Plus, you are using the same talking point as those who keep complaining about Avatar do. It has no cultural impact, nobody talks about it, they keep releasing it, they are forcing it down our throats. At the end of the day bundles make up a small percentage of the game overall sales, at best 10-20%, the game would still sell over 15M plus if you remove all the bundle sales. And people buy said bundles because they want them, nothing is being forced. Also, Horizon Zero dawn has a higher completion rate than many games. It’s only a beating a ***** horse to those who live in a bubble. If you spend a lot of time online, then that is the narrative you carry, but as long as the game keeps selling, it is in Sony’s interest to not only keep going, but also ignore those online. Just like how people keep crying about MTX online, yet companies ignore them because players still keep buying them. 25. Apple Reportedly Plans to Discontinue Lightning to 3.5mm Headphone Jack Adapter Apple Reportedly Plans to Discontinue Lightning to 3.5mm Headphone Jack Adapter Apple, with its iPhone 15 series, made the shift from its proprietary lightning port to the USB Type-C in compliance with the regulations made mandatory by the ********* Union (EU). Now, it appears that the Cupertino-based technology giant is planning to discontinue its accessories which feature a lightning port, starting with the lightning to 3.5mm headphone jack which enables users with older devices to connect certain accessories such as earphones, according to a report. Apple to Discontinue Lightning Adapter This information comes from MacRumors contributor Aaron Perris, who claimed that Apple’s lightning to 3.5mm headphone jack adapter has been listed as “sold out” in Apple Store in the US and most other countries. In the regions where it is still available, the report speculates that it may be the case until the remaining inventory is exhausted. Gadgets 360 staff members were able to verify these claims, and the adapter is listed as “sold out” on the Apple Store India website, too. The adpater, however, can be found on ecommerce websites like Amazon. Notably, Apple first introduced the lightning to 3.5mm headphone jack adapter alongside the iPhone 7 lineup in 2016. It came bundled in the box with iPhone 7, iPhone 8, and iPhone X models, but subsequent launches did not get it as a free add-on. Instead, Apple continues to sell it on its website priced at Rs. 900. But if the claims are to be believed, those days might soon come to an end. However, it is not the only Apple accessory which is speculated to reach its end of life. The same MacRumors contributor previously claimed that Apple was also planning to discontinue its wired EarPods that debuted alongside the iPhone 5 in 2012. First offered with a 3.5mm headphone jack, Apple later updated them with a lightning port, and then a USB Type-C port. This move was speculated to take place in September when Apple launched the iPhone 16 series but that did not happen. The report suggests that all three models have been listed as “non-carry forward” by US retailer Target.
