  2. Spirit Airlines files for bankruptcy protection after mounting losses Spirit Airlines files for bankruptcy protection after mounting losses Passengers check in at the Spirit Airlines counter at the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport on February 07, 2022 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Joe Raedle | Getty Images Spirit Airlines, an icon of budget air travel that reshaped the industry, has filed for bankruptcy protection after years of mounting losses, a ******* merger and more demanding consumer tastes. The carrier early Monday said it reached a prearranged deal with its bondholders including $300 million in debtor-in-possession financing. It said that vendors, aircraft lessors will not be impaired. The airline said it expects to continue operating normally and said customers can continue to book. It said it expects to exit bankruptcy protection in the first quarter of next year. “The most important thing to know is that you can continue to book and fly now and in the future,” Spirit CEO Ted Christie said in a letter to customers on Monday. He said customers can use tickets, credits and loyalty points “as normal.” The Dania Beach, Florida-based airline had struggled with an engine recall that grounded dozens of its jets, a surge in costs after the pandemic, and the ******** of its planned acquisition by JetBlue Airways, which was blocked by a federal judge earlier this year on antitrust grounds. Its shares are down more than 90% so far this year. Spirit is the first major U.S. airline to file for Chapter 11 since ********* Airlines 13 years ago. The airline had repeatedly pushed back a deadline with its credit card processor to renegotiate a $1.1 billion debt due next year or risk losing the ability to process those transactions. Last week, Spirit said it had to delay its quarterly filing and said it was in discussions for a deal with a majority of creditors that would not affect customers, vendors, suppliers and others, but that it would “lead to the cancellation of the Company’s existing equity.” Spirit said in the filing that it expects its third-quarter margins to be 12 percentage points lower than during the same ******* a year ago and that sales were $61 million lower than last year, while costs surged and fares slipped. The airline hasn’t had a profit since 2019 and lost more than $335 million in the first half of the year. To try to make up the difference, it has sold dozens of jets to shore up cash, which has worked in its favor since planes are in short supply this year. Most recently, it sold 23 Airbus aircraft to GA Telesis to generate $519 million. Spirit has said it expects to end the year with approximately $1 billion in liquidity. The company also plans to furlough another 330 pilots in January on top of about 200 in September as it slashed routes. But analysts expect the carrier will have to shrink further in bankruptcy to get a handle on costs. The Spirit way Spirit’s business model of offering rock-bottom fares and fees for everything from seat assignments to cabin baggage was a success with bargain-hunting customers, allowing it to expand over more than a decade. Its bare-bones service became a favorite punchline for stand-up comics. A greeting card featuring one of the carrier’s yellow planes even states: “I would fly Spirit Airlines for you.” The low-fare and add-on-fee model sparked similar offerings from larger carriers like Delta, ********* and *******, which rolled out basic economy fares. Spirit struggled after the pandemic, however, when costs rose throughout the industry and lifted travel restrictions sparked a surge in bookings for international trips outside of Spirit’s network. Fares fell in the oversupplied U.S. market. Spirit this summer started offering bundled fares with seat assignments and other perks, as well as a sort of “first-class” that included larger seats at the front of the plane as many travelers have opted to pay more for more spacious seats on board. In January, a federal judge blocked JetBlue’s $3.8 billion planned acquisition of Spirit. Spirit had previously had a deal to merge with fellow budget airline Frontier before JetBlue swooped in with a bid in April 2022. Spirit shareholders backed the JetBlue all-cash offer. Judge William Young, who was appointed by former President Ronald Reagan, said the JetBlue deal would drive up fares and reduce competition. The airlines had argued it would help them better compete, especially in the U.S. where four airlines control about three-quarters of the market. “Spirit is a small airline. But there are those who love it,” Young wrote in his ruling. “To those dedicated customers of Spirit, this one’s for you.” This is breaking news. Please refresh for updates. 3. Fremantle Dockers key forward Jye Amiss hasn’t lost belief in goalkicking but will look at changes to routine Fremantle Dockers key forward Jye Amiss hasn’t lost belief in goalkicking but will look at changes to routine Fremantle forward Jye Amiss will consider making minor changes to his goal-kicking routine over the summer after losing his famed accuracy last season. However, he believes he still took steps forward during 2024 to become a better player. Amiss wowed the AFL during 2023 when he kicked 41.17 and was a constant threat whenever he won the ball. But the 21-year-old was often taking longer shots last season and kicked 36.28. He said having more shots at goal meant he was doing a lot right during games, so he would look at whether changes to his set shot routine would make him more potent. Camera IconJye Amiss is in Karratha. Credit: Craig O’Donoghue “My routine now is one I am still confident in. Whether it’s getting more momentum, this time of the year is the best if I’m going to tinker with anything or change little things because then you can work over the pre-season. I’ll have a look and talk to the coaches,” Amiss said at the club’s Community Camp in Karratha. “I felt I had games here and there where I was kicking straight, but then I wasn’t kicking straight. But I had in my mind and with the coaches as well that it was me getting shots on goal. “I kicked 36.28, but if you look at the shots I took during the year, that’s what I came back to the coaches within my reviews during the week. It was what I did to get in the position to allow myself to kick a goal. I’ll leave my goalkicking up to my routine.” Amiss has already increased his weight from 94kg in November last year to 96.5kg and is keen to make that his playing weight this season. He said extra weight would be valuable when playing against the game’s best defenders. “It was a focus. I came back on day one and felt really good,” he said. “I think it’s just going to help me. Being a little bit heavier now and coming into pre-season will allow me to condition myself to my body and my weight right now. Come round one, I will be ready to go.” Camera IconJye Amiss chats to kids in Karratha. Credit: Craig O’Donoghue On Monday, Amiss joined his teammates in Karratha, conducting footy clinics for local youngsters. Having grown up in Busselton, Amiss said it was important for players to be role models for children in remote areas. ‘These are really important,” he said. “I love it up here. Getting up here to see the people and mix with the community is good. “I think it’s really good for the kids to really experience this. If I had that when I was younger, I’d also have loved that. Under the deal announced internally last week, ***** will hold 60 percent and run daily operations under the ****** venture, while Pegatron will hold the rest and provide technical support, said the two sources, who declined to be named as the details are not yet public. The sources did not elaborate on the financials of the deal. ***** declined to comment, while Apple and Pegatron did not respond to Reuters queries on Sunday. Reuters was first to report in April that Pegatron had the backing of Apple and was holding advanced talks to sell its only iPhone plant in India to *****, marking the Taiwanese firm’s latest scale back of its Apple partnership. Apple is increasingly looking to diversify its supply chain beyond China amid geopolitical tensions between Beijing and Washington. For India’s *****, the Chennai Pegatron plant will bolster its iPhone manufacturing plans. ***** is one of the largest conglomerates in India and has been fast expanding into iPhone manufacturing, rivaling the only other iPhone contract manufacturer operating in India, Foxconn. The announcement for the deal’s closure was made internally at the iPhone plant on Friday, said the first source. The second source said the two companies plan to file for an approval of the Competition Commission of India (CCI) in the coming days. ***** already operates an iPhone assembly plant in the southern state of Karnataka, which it took over from Taiwan’s Wistron last year. 7. Foxconn Tells India Recruiters: Nix Marital Status in iPhone Job Ads Foxconn Tells India Recruiters: Nix Marital Status in iPhone Job Ads Apple supplier Foxconn has ordered the hiring agents that help recruit iPhone assembly workers in India to remove age, gender and marital criteria as well as the manufacturer’s name in job advertisements, according to three people familiar with the matter and almost a dozen ads reviewed by Reuters. The moves follow a Reuters investigation published June 25, which found that Foxconn excluded married women from jobs at its main India iPhone assembly plant, though it relaxed the practice during high-production periods. Foxconn, which employs thousands of women at the iPhone factory at Sriperumbudur, near Chennai, outsources recruitment of assembly-line workers to third-party vendors. These agents scout for and screen candidates, who ultimately are interviewed and selected by Foxconn. For the June story, Reuters reviewed job ads posted by Foxconn’s Indian hiring vendors between January 2023 and May 2024 which stated that only unmarried women of specified ages were eligible for smartphone assembly roles, contravening Apple and Foxconn anti-discrimination policies. Days after the story’s publication, Foxconn HR executives instructed many of the Indian vendors to standardise recruitment materials in accordance with templates provided by the company, two of the three hiring agency sources told Reuters. They also told the vendors not to speak to the media, these people said. At a meeting in late June, Foxconn HR executives cited media coverage of the company’s hiring practices and “warned us not to use Foxconn’s name in any ads going forward, and told us our contracts would be terminated if we did,” one agent said. “The instructions for ads were: Don’t mention the unmarried requirement, don’t mention age, nor male or female either,” said the person, who like the other sources spoke on the condition of anonymity for ***** of backlash from Foxconn. Foxconn did not respond to Reuters questions about its directives to recruiters, nor whether it had ended restrictions on the employment of married women for iPhone assembly roles. Apple declined to comment on similar questions. Both companies have previously said that Foxconn hires married women in India. Reuters could not independently determine whether Foxconn had begun to hire greater numbers of married women for the roles in question. But recent changes to advertising content aligned with the recruiters’ accounts. One new Foxconn template ad reviewed by Reuters described smartphone assembly positions but made no mention of Foxconn, nor age, gender or marital criteria. It listed benefits: “Air conditioned workplace, free transport, canteen facility, free hostel” and a monthly salary of 14,974 rupees, or about $177. In October, Reuters visited Sriperumbudur and reviewed nine Foxconn vendor ads, some in the Tamil language, that were posted on walls and circulated on WhatsApp. The text matched the template provided to the vendors. While the ads didn’t identify the employer, two of the three vendor sources said they were for Foxconn smartphone assembly positions. “Foxconn gives us the ads to run for hiring. We only use those,” a manager at hiring agency Proodle told Reuters. Reuters visited the offices of 12 Foxconn hiring vendors, eight of which declined to discuss its practices. One vendor, Groveman Global, had advertised in 2023 for unmarried women aged 18 to 32 for mobile manufacturing jobs. This language was absent in three new Groveman ads that Reuters reviewed last month. A representative at Groveman’s office declined to comment on the changes. Apple has been positioning India as an alternative manufacturing base to China amid tensions between Beijing and Washington. Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government views Foxconn’s iPhone factory and Apple’s broader supply chain in India as helping the country move up the economic value chain. Following Reuters’ earlier story, Modi’s government ordered federal and state investigations into hiring practices at the Foxconn plant. Labor officials visited the facility in July and interviewed company executives, but neither Modi’s government nor state officials in Tamil Nadu made the findings public. The state government rejected a Reuters request for a copy of the investigation report made under India’s Right to Information Act, citing confidentiality. Federal and state officials did not respond to Reuters questions about the outcome of their probes of Foxconn. Dilip Cherian, a communications consultant and co-founder of Indian public relations firm Perfect Relations, said media scrutiny of Foxconn’s employment practices had necessitated changes to job advertising because of the reputational impact on the company and its client, Apple. Still, it remained to be seen “whether this move represents a real change of heart or just a cosmetic and appropriately legal response to the fact that they have been called out,” added Cherian, who told Reuters he does not work with Apple or Foxconn. During a visit to India in August, Foxconn Chairman Young Liu said married women “greatly contribute to the efforts of what we’re doing here.” He also met with Modi, who said on X at the time that the pair discussed the Taiwan-headquartered company’s investment plans in India. © Thomson Reuters 2024 (This story has not been edited by NDTV staff and is auto-generated from a syndicated feed.) 8. Visitor warns others of Hawaii ocean dangers after terrifying incident Visitor warns others of Hawaii ocean dangers after terrifying incident POIPU, Hawaii (KHON2) — Wisconsin visitor Matt Jacobus was visiting Kauai for his brother’s wedding. The triathlete said he had been swimming around Poipu for a few days and decided to go for another swim at Kiahuna Beach on Nov. 7. Get Hawaii’s latest morning news delivered to your inbox, sign up for News 2 You “The water seemed to be relatively calm, there weren’t really big waves or anything it seemed like a calm day,” Jacobus said. He said he was snorkeling for less than 10 minutes when he noticed the ocean floor was seemingly dropping. ‘Out of control,’ diver says after others lost at sea for hours “The depth seemed to have dropped to around 20 to 25 feet which I thought was odd because I thought I was still close to the beach,” he recalled. “I poked my head up and looked towards the shore and I saw I was over 100 yards away.” He said he did everything wrong at first. He said he gasped, which caused him to inhale water which made him panic even more, and then he started trying to ****** the rip. “I was looking down at the ocean bottom, and realized I was moving further away,” he said. He said he considered waving his hands but realized there were no lifeguard stands at the beach, and the people on the beach looked so small in the far distance. The nearest lifeguard tower is at neighboring Poipu Beach. “Luckily, I’m a triathlete and I’m in good shape,” Jacobus said. “And so I picked a line parallel to the east with a slight angle to the beach and swam as hard as I could.” He said it took one minute to get out of the rip and another minute to get to shore. He wanted to share his experience to help raise awareness to others who can be deceived by Hawaii’s clear waters. “I didn’t think there was any risk involved until I was in an absolute emergency situation,” he continued. “If you’re not a strong swimmer or you don’t have good cardio, I wouldn’t even recommend taking the chance unless you’re with a tour group, lifeguards or have guides,” he said. “Just don’t take the chance, even if you’re a strong swimmer it’s too big of a risk. The water was calm, and I didn’t realize I was that far out until I was.” “Even with swimming and cardio it almost wasn’t enough for me, that’s the level of caution that needs to be exercised going out in the water,” he added. He said Hawaii lawmakers should consider requiring all visitors to wear fins when going out snorkeling and to ban full-face masks. He also said all airlines should have safety videos warning people of ocean dangers. “And don’t go to a beach without a lifeguard,” Jacobus said. “I’m never doing that again.” The day before Jacobus’ incident, Kauai County called off its search for an Arizona man who went missing off ‘Anini Beach on Kauai’s North Shore. The county said the 59-year-old was snorkeling with others but never returned to shore. ‘Anini is also a non-guarded beach. Since Jan. 1, there have been nine visitor drownings on Kauai, compared to eight in 2023. “I think if just one person sees this and it saves their life it’s worth it,” Jacobus said. 10. Who’s At Fault In This Interstate Accident? Who’s At Fault In This Interstate Accident? Read the full story on The Auto Wire Who’s At Fault In This Interstate Accident? People do weird things on public roads, including interstates, like in this traffic cam footage with an unbelievable outcome. This is why we contend that one of the worst things you can do while behind the wheel is be distracted or zone out, because you always have to be ready for just about anything. Watch a fleeing Lexus GX roll a trooper’s cruiser. The footage comes out of Missouri on I-70 and about Van Brunt Blvd in the Kansas City metro area. It was the night of September 3 just before 9:30 when we see someone driving nice and slow up the on-ramp with their turn signal active. Then the person just stops at the end of the ramp, apparently waiting for a gap so they can merge into the right lane on the interstate. We’ve seen people do this sort of thing before and it’s maddening since we were taught that the on-ramp is where you’re supposed to achieve highway speeds so you can just merge right in without problems. But this person doesn’t do that. They go slow, stop, then wait. And the driver behind them doesn’t. Instead, that driver is going at a good clip, like what you’re supposed to do on an on-ramp. But that driver doesn’t see the stopped car and slams right into it, resulting in quite the ****** that slows traffic as the two smashed vehicles veer across the three lanes of travel. Tell us the second driver was paying attention, we dare you. It’s blatantly obvious they weren’t, otherwise they would’ve seen the stopped car and hit their brakes in time to avoid the collision, or at least make it not nearly as bad. So who’s at fault here: the person who just stopped cold on the on-ramp or the driver who slammed into them because they weren’t paying attention? The game has an apocalyptic setting based on the nuclear wasteland of Chernobyl. The game was earlier anticipated to be released in February 2022, but the production got delayed after Russia invaded Ukraine in the same year. The reason for Russia putting a strong foot forward might also be due to the origin of its studio, which is based in Ukraine. Through a state-owned news agency, RIA Novosty State Duma Deputy, Anton Gorelki, shared insight on the matter. He was clear that strict action would be taken against the game if it is found justifying terrorism or features extremist and anti-Russian themes. Mikhail Mushailev, a legal advisor, issued a warning to all Russians that if anyone was found acquiring the game through VPN or other means, they would be considered supporting a hostile force and would meet the requirements of being called a **********, according to the Russian government. The game has managed to generate a lot of hype in the months following its release and continues to do so just a few days before its release as well. The only major drawback the game is facing is the geopolitical tension between the two nations—Ukraine and Russia. The game has already once suffered due to war between the two nations and is now being put on trial again for hurting the country’s sentiments. Although Stalker 2 might face a total ban in Russia, it is highly unlikely that the game will suffer in sales since a lot of people all over the world are eagerly waiting for its release. Radiopharm pancreatic ******* diagnostic test outperforms Radiopharm pancreatic ******* diagnostic test outperforms Following publication of its findings in “Frontiers in Nuclear Medicine”, Radiopharm Theranostics revealed a clinical study of its cutting-edge imaging agent, 68Ga-RAD 301 on 44 pancreatic ******* patients – the biggest cohort yet – has delivered strong results. The trial, conducted by Dr. Rehm and colleagues from the Technische Universität Dresden was able to not only identify the primary tumour but also pick up secondary and tertiary metastases in the liver, lymph nodes, peritoneum, lung, bone, spleen, pleural cavity and soft tissues. Importantly, the visual response was excellent with a high tumour-to-background ratio and no adverse events were recorded, which, according to the company, suggests RAD301 is a suitable and safe diagnostic agent for imaging αvβ6-protein expression in pancreatic *******. 68Ga-RAD 301, otherwise known as 68Ga-Trivehexin, is a peptide-based molecule which targets αvβ6, a specific protein which tends to be over-expressed on pancreatic ******* cells and other cancers with decreased survival rates, making it a useful diagnostic and therapeutic target. By delivering precise imaging, RAD-301 holds the potential to revolutionise the detection and management of pancreatic *******. The development appears to be a significant leap in addressing pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC), one of the deadliest forms of *******. The trial results have come at the same time as Radiopharm continues its phase one imaging study at Montefiore Medical Centre in New York, evaluating the safety, dosage level and imaging characteristics of RAD-301 in patients with advanced PDAC. The RAD-301 agent had previously received Orphan ***** Designation (ODD) from the U.S. Food and ***** Administration (FDA), giving it a running start with addressing an urgent unmet medical need. Current imaging standards of care for the detection of PDAC have significant limitations, making this one of the highest areas of unmet medical need and posing a major challenge for healthcare providers in imaging PDAC patients. These findings reinforce the clinical potential of RAD 301 as an imaging agent for the more sensitive and selective detection of pancreatic ******* and its metastases, ultimately advancing PDAC patient management. As well as developing diagnostic products to identify carcinomas, Radiopharm’s is also progressing specific therapies to irradiate individual ******* cells. By combining a monoclonal antibody and a radioisotope together, the “radiotracer” is then able to target and deliver a specific dose of radiation to each ******* cell without affecting the surrounding healthy tissue. The global radiopharmaceuticals market size is estimated to be USD 6.74 billion (AUD$10.2 billion) in 2024 and is expected to grow to USD 13.67 billion (AUD$20.7 billion) by 2033, representing a healthy compound annual growth rate of 8.2 per cent in the next nine years. Radiopharm currently has an ambitious pipeline in the burgeoning sector including six platform technologies spanning peptides, small molecules and monoclonal antibodies to targeting a range of cancers. However, the Coalition has argued the measures don’t go far enough in holding companies to account, and called for a continued probe into social media, as well as dating apps, gaming platforms and live streaming programs. In the 204-page report released on Monday evening, it said social media platforms posed a threat to “democracy, our social cohesion, and indeed our national security”. It also said apps were designed to be highly addictive, and centred around business models which served to “amplify these risks and increase the likelihood of harm”. NewsWire/ Gaye Gerard Credit: News Corp Australia Among the report’s 11 final recommendations, it called on the government to “consider options for greater enforceability of *********** laws” for companies, in order to bring them under Australia jurisdiction. The government should also ensure that platforms introduce measures which gives users greater control into what user-generated and paid content they are served, while also giving users the ability to “alter, reset, or turn off their personal algorithms and recommender systems”. Some recommendations were also already underway, including a “overarching statutory duty of care,” which was announced by Communications Minister Michelle Rowland last week. The report also said any regulatory changes should be “co-designed” with young people, and said recommended the creation of a Digital Affairs Ministry to boost funding for digital competency education and online safety skills. Following the tabling of the report, ******** MP Andrew Wallace said the probe was a “missed opportunity” to enforce further reform, and said there wasn’t enough attention paid to “child safety, foreign interference, and mental health, particularly in relation to eating disorders and addiction”. 18. Warren Gatland: What next for Wales head coach after record defeat Warren Gatland: What next for Wales head coach after record defeat Whether Gatland will be in charge for the opening Six Nations match against France in Paris on 31 January, or even for the Springboks next weekend, ******** to be seen. Even he admitted he was unsure and there was an air of resignation, mixed with occasional bouts of defiance, about Gatland in his interviews after the Australia defeat. The New Zealander said he would accept his departure if it was for the benefit of Welsh rugby and he revealed he had spoken with Welsh Rugby Union (WRU) chair Richard Collier-Keywood and executive director of rugby Nigel Walker in the Principality Stadium changing rooms following this latest humiliation. Gatland’s statistics for his second stint as Wales head coach are shocking. He has overseen six wins and 17 losses from 23 Tests since replacing Wayne Pivac in December 2022. Four of those victories came in last year’s World Cup when Gatland led Wales to the quarter-finals before defeat against Argentina. His side have not won a Test match since. They finished bottom of the Six Nations for the first time in 21 years, lost at home to Italy and Fiji and slipped to a World Rugby ranking low of 11th. Gatland was always in danger of damaging his legacy when returning to a job for which he was generally revered after his first stint in charge, one that yielded Grand Slams and World Cup semi-finals. Now pondering whether he should stay or go, Gatland posed the question who could come in and replace him, as he highlighted Welsh rugby’s flaws. There is no evidence public opinion is completely against Gatland, with the counter-argument asking what more could he do with the youthful players at his disposal following the retirement of so many of Wales’ experienced “golden generation”. This squad, led by an impressive captain in Dewi Lake, is full of young men proud to play for their country – but they are currently lightweight and novices on the international stage. So what would replacing Gatland achieve and would a new face improve things? Gatland’s critics will immediately put forward a long list of candidates, naming Michael Cheika, Shaun Edwards, Brad Mooar, Tony Brown, Franco Smith and Pat Lam as alternative options and there will be others. Whether any of those individuals would improve the flagging fortunes of Welsh rugby is up for debate. The ********* Parliament adopted its demands ahead of this year’s global climate talks on 14 November 2024. At COP29, MEPs will meet with ministers, parliamentarians, civil society representatives, leaders of international climate organisations and other delegates. A ****** press conference with delegation Chair Lídia Pereira and Climate Action Commissioner Wopke Hoekstra is scheduled for Wednesday 20 November at 14.00 AZT (11.00 CET), in Press Conference Room 1 (Karabakh), Area D. It can be followed live here. Quotes “To make tangible progress on global climate action, we need a true collective effort and more action from all countries. The situation has changed since the 1990s – while the EU has more than halved its share of global emissions to 6% in 2023, emissions from major emerging economies continue to rise and a country like China now has historical emissions on par with the EU. If we want an ambitious climate finance goal, then all high-GDP, high-emission major and emerging economies, like China and Saudi Arabia, should contribute financially to the post-2025 goal, which we hope to agree on in Baku. We also want the EU to step up its green diplomacy. We should encourage and support other countries to introduce or improve carbon pricing mechanisms similar to the EU Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS), and also expand the scope of the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), in a constructive dialogue with third countries. The EU can help create an international level playing field, avoid carbon leakage and increase public support for climate action,” Lídia Pereira, Chair of the delegation, said. “As many world leaders decide not to participate in COP29, it is vital to remember that climate change does not wait for the perfect setting or audience. This makes the presence of the ********* Parliament’s delegation here all the more significant. The EU must demonstrate leadership in driving global climate solutions. Establishing a new international goal on climate financing is essential – one that matches the urgency of the crisis while ensuring fairness in sharing its burdens. Only through collective action and equitable burden-sharing can we fulfil the ambitions of the Paris Agreement,” Mohammed Chahim, Vice-Chair of the delegation, said. Background COP29 takes place from 11-22 November 2024 in Baku (Azerbaijan). 20. Lycaon prepares Arunta ground for Stansmore target drilling Lycaon prepares Arunta ground for Stansmore target drilling Lycaon Resources has begun access-track and drill-pad earthworks for its maiden ******** on the company’s Stansmore niobium-rare earths and iron-oxide copper-gold target in WA’s West Arunta region. The proposed drilling is supported by a Western *********** Government Exploration Incentive Scheme co-funding grant of $180,000 and is expected to kick off about a week after completion of about five to seven days of earthmoving. The Stansmore target sits within a pair of relatively small exploration licences which form part of Lycaon’s greater Stansmore project where a total of six small ovoid magnetic anomalies have been defined, up to a maximum diameter of about 1km. The company’s three higher-priority targets sit in the northern part of the project area, including Stansmore, spanning two small separate exploration licenses which sit about 2km outside the main tenement body – while the Volt and Ion targets are located in the north-west corner of the main body of the ******* licence area. A separate cluster of small ovoid magnetic targets – Edi, Earl and Menlo – also ***** in the south-eastern corner of the main licence area and appears parallel to the dominant regional north-west/south-east strike or “grain” of the country rocks in the immediate area. This grain is emphasised by the local presence of a small handful of linear structures highlighted by slightly-elevated magnetic signatures of almost the same amplitude as the three targets. The linear elements could reflect distinct, *****-like bodies of another rock-type or they could be feeder structures to the three targets, all of which sit on the ends of each of the separate linear trends. The northern Stansmore and Volt targets represent the biggest targets identified to date and appear to be of similar size. Taken together, Lycaon views any one of or all targets as potential niobium-rare-earths hosts – possibly alkaline intrusives such as carbonatites – or as iron-oxide copper-gold (IOCG) targets. It is pleasing that the earthworks are now underway to construct access tracks and drill pads at our West Arunta project. We are eager to get drilling underway in the coming week, as we become the first ever explorer to drill the Stansmore magnetic anomaly below the thin cover of sand. We aim to emulate the success of WA1 in making a major discovery in the West Arunta region and are encouraged by the recent further geophysical modelling completed by industry expert Terry Hoschke which shows the Stansmore magnetic anomaly as a pipelike body 500m in diameter. The company’s maiden drilling is designed to hit the discrete Stansmore target as a priority in a bid to grasp what sort of rocks lurk below the desert sands and its intriguing magnetic signature. Stansmore is by no means a trivial target with magnetics data highlighting a 500m wide anomaly, while depth slices of the magnetic anomalism show it to persist to at least 525m depth. The nearby Volt and Ion target duo could also represent a combination made up of a 1km-scale target with a smaller apophysis on its margin which together might comprise a 3km-wide target. Magnetic slices between 225m and 525m depth depict the duo as a fragmented ring-structure at depth with possibly two feeder pipes, but whatever any of these bodies are, the only resolution will be found by drilling. The Stansmore project has only been subject to limited previous exploration, although the broader area has received limited attention directed towards gold, copper and diamonds. BHP Minerals Limited completed six shallow rotary air-blast (RAB) drillholes over the Stansmore magnetic anomaly in 1983 when it was exploring for diamonds. Its drilling of the Stansmore anomaly involved five drillholes to a maximum depth of 12m, intersecting rocks described as “ultrabasic – possibly pyroxenite” and “sericitic- altered claystone”. Plainly, with the magnetic anomaly being estimated to lie at a depth of about 150m, the open-***** RAB method favoured at the time lacked the depth capability – and the desirable sample integrity – and could only serve as a basic geochemical near-surface stab in the dark. But encouragingly, while BHP’s drilling did not come up with any indications of potential diamond host rocks such as kimberlites or lamproites, it was able to show that surface cover is relatively thin over the target area. Lycaon draws strength from the knowledge that both WA1 Resources and Encounter Resources were both big first-order geophysical anomalies identified which had never been drilled and yet both have since come up with niobium and rare-earths mineralised carbonatites in their first rounds of drilling. Additionally, Lycaon cite the examples of other significant discoveries such as the eight-million ounce Havieron gold-copper ******** in the Paterson province in the East Pilbara and Australia’s major Ernst Henry copper gold mine, both of which were discovered in terrain of Proterozoic age. If Lycaon can pull a similar result from drilling at Stansmore out of the hat, the result will further reinforce the still mostly-untested prospectivity of the Arunta. 21. Scientists Confirm Volcanic Eruptions on Moon’s Far Side in New Study Scientists Confirm Volcanic Eruptions on Moon’s Far Side in New Study New research has revealed that volcanic eruptions occurred on the Moon’s far side billions of years ago, comparable to those observed on its visible side. This discovery was made through an analysis of lunar soil samples brought back by China’s Chang’e-6 spacecraft, the first mission to collect and return materials from this largely unexplored lunar region. According to papers published November 15 in Science and Nature, scientists from two independent research teams identified volcanic rock fragments in the samples. One of the pieces was determined to be approximately 2.8 billion years old, while another, even older fragment, was dated to 4.2 billion years. These findings provide evidence of prolonged volcanic activity on the far side of the Moon, an area previously lacking direct geological data. Distinct Characteristics of the Moon’s Far Side The Moon’s far side differs significantly from its near side, which faces Earth and has been better explored. While the near side features flat, dark plains formed by ancient lava flows, the far side is marked by craters and lacks similar volcanic formations. According to Qiu-Li Li, a co-author of the study from the ******** Academy of Sciences, the stark geological contrasts between the two sides remain a subject of ongoing investigation. Earlier research, including data from NASA’s Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter, hinted at a volcanic history for the far side. However, the recent findings, published in the journals Science and Nature, offer the first physical evidence confirming such activity. China’s Lunar Missions in Focus China has been instrumental in advancing lunar exploration. In 2019, the Chang’e-4 mission became the first to land on the Moon’s far side. The Chang’e-5 mission later returned samples from the near side in 2020. The current study builds on these achievements, shedding light on over a billion years of volcanic eruptions on the Moon’s hidden hemisphere. Further research is expected to clarify how and why volcanic activity persisted for such an extended *******. 22. Nvidia Stock Will Soar After Nov. 20 for These 3 Simple Reasons Nvidia Stock Will Soar After Nov. 20 for These 3 Simple Reasons Semiconductor company Nvidia (NASDAQ: NVDA) has become the quintessential artificial intelligence (AI) stock for many investors. Since ChatGPT launched in late 2022, Nvidia shares have surged about 950%, making it the best performing stock in the S&P 500 (SNPINDEX: ^GSPC). On Wednesday, Nov. 20, Nvidia will announce earnings for the third quarter of fiscal 2025, which ended in October 2024. I expect the stock to soar in the days and weeks following the report for three simple reasons. Read on to learn more. Start Your Mornings Smarter! Wake up with Breakfast news in your inbox every market day. Sign Up For Free » Nvidia builds the most coveted graphics processing units (GPUs) in the computing industry, as they have become the gold standard in accelerating artificial intelligence (AI) workloads. Indeed, Nvidia holds over 80% market share in AI accelerators, and Forrester Research recently wrote, “Without Nvidia GPUs, modern AI wouldn’t be possible.” Nvidia told investors last quarter that the production ramp for its next-generation Blackwell GPU would begin in the fourth fiscal quarter (i.e., the current one) of 2025, which ends in January 2025. Management will likely provide an update during the third-quarter earnings call, and shareholders have reason to anticipate good news. Earlier this year, CEO Jensen Huang said Blackwell would be the most successful product launch in company history. Additionally, Nvidia executives recently told analysts that Blackwell GPUs are already “booked out 12 months.” That means demand for the new processors is so strong that it will take the company an entire year to work through its existing order backlog. Consequently, Nvidia will like give encouraging guidance on Nov. 20, which sould drive the stock higher. Nvidia has provided encouraging third-quarter guidance. Management said revenue would increase 80% to $32.5 billion (plus or ****** 2%) due to continued demand for the current generation of GPUs, called Hopper. Management also said non-GAAP earnings would increase 80% to $0.72 per diluted share (plus or ****** 2%). However, Wall Street analysts have steadily raised their third-quarter earnings estimates since Nvidia gave its initial guidance. The consensus now calls for earnings to increase 85% to $0.74 per diluted share, according to LSEG. Analysts have also raised their price targets, such that the consensus of $156 per share implies 10% upside from the current share price of $142. Story Continues Wall Street analysts are not omniscient, but their insight is valuable because they have more resources than retail investors. The fact that analysts have become more optimistic ahead of Nvidia’s third-quarter report is a good sign. It suggests very thorough research has uncovered signs of strong demand. That could drive the stock higher after Nov. 20. Image source: Getty Images. Nvidia counts all of the largest hyperscale cloud computing companies among its customers. That includes Alphabet, Amazon, Meta Platforms, and Microsoft. Those companies have not only invested aggressively in AI infrastructure throughout 2024, but also expect capital expenditures to increase next year. Alphabet’s capital expenditures totaled $13 billion in the third quarter, most of which went to infrastructure, and management expects a similar level of spending in the fourth quarter. But CFO Anat Ashkenazi told analysts, “We do see an increase coming in 2025.” Amazon expects capital expenditures to total about $75 billion in 2024. But CEO Andy Jassy recently told analysts, “I suspect we’ll spend more on that in 2025.” He said most of that capital was earmarked for its cloud computing business, and he specifically mentioned generative AI as the impetus. Meta Platforms’ capital expenditures will total about $40 billion in 2024, most of which has been allocated to AI servers. However, CFO Susan Li told recently told analysts, “We expect a significant acceleration in infrastructure expense growth next year.” Microsoft’s capital expenditures totaled $20 billion in the first quarter of fiscal 2025, which ended in October 2024. CFO Amy Hood told analysts, “We expect capital expenditures to increase on a sequential basis given our cloud and AI demand signals.” Some spending discussed above reflects strong demand for Blackwell. However, Nvidia also builds central processing units (CPUs) and networking equipment. In fact, the company has secured a leadership position in AI networking gear, according to Bloomberg. So, the uptick in capital expenditures further supports the idea that Nvidia will give encouraging guidance when it announces results for the third quarter. That could drive the stock higher after Nov. 20. However, the more important takeaway is that Nvidia has a key competitive advantage in vertical integration. Because the company effectively designs entire data centers, Nvidia can build systems with a superior total cost of ownership, according to Jensen Huang. That should keep the company ahead of its competitors in the coming quarters and years. Indeed, Morgan Stanley analyst Joseph Moore recently wrote, “The market tends to underestimate the difficulty of competing with Nvidia.” Ever feel like you missed the boat in buying the most successful stocks? Dad ***** days after getting delayed scan results Dad ***** days after getting delayed scan results A Shropshire family has called for faster NHS test results, after a father waited three months for the outcome of a ******* scan which finally arrived five days before he *****. Pete Vagg was receiving chemotherapy at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital, unaware his treatment wasn’t working and that palliative care might have been an option. His son Neil said his father “should have had a more dignified end of life, visiting his grandchildren abroad”. The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust (SaTH) said: “Waiting times remain longer than we would want for our patients in some specialties”. Mr Vagg, 79, from Shrewsbury, had been living with ******* for a number of years, but it had spread to his bowel and liver. He started chemotherapy and in July 2024 had a monitoring scan to check if the treatment was working. His son, who works at the Royal Marsden Hospital in London, said: “It was odd that every time his dad met the medical team there was still no scan result”. This meant no decisions could be made about his father’s care, because nobody knew what was going on inside him, he added. Common situation Julian Povey, who chairs the Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin GP Board, said it was a common situation with around a third of GP work now related to hospital outpatient appointments. Dr Povey said people could wait eight weeks for an scan, and then another 12 weeks for the report. Private companies are often tasked with interpreting scan results to take the pressure off hospitals, but Dr Povey said the trust “needs to look for alternatives to reduce waiting times”. Ned Hobbs from SaTH said the trust was working with neighbouring hospitals to speed up results [SaTH] ******* diagnostics data from the NHS suggested that in September about two-thirds (68%) of SaTH patients received results within four weeks, but more than one in ten had to wait more than two months. Across England, three-quarters (75%) were within the target. The Royal College of Radiologists said there was a shortage of staff in the field nationally. The college said that in Shropshire the reporting times for more complex diagnostics, like CT and MRI scans, was of particular concern. Between January and June 2024, 8.3% of CT and MRI scans (4269 scans) took longer than 28 days to be reported. SaTH’s chief operating officer Ned Hobbs said: “We are making progress in reducing waiting times for ******* treatment. “We have invested in additional capacity and clinics, including at our Community Diagnostic Centre, and expect in the coming months to reduce the waiting times further.” He added the trust was working with neighbouring hospitals to offer faster access to scans, tests and treatment. Neil Vagg said seeing his father suffer unnecessarily had prompted him to speak out: “We need to be asking questions about why it’s been allowed to happen… because what’s to say there isn’t something more serious out there lurking that could be averted.” More on this storyRelated internet links Shrewsbury & Telford Hospital NHS Trust The Royal College of Radiologists Source link #Dad #***** #days #delayed #scan #results Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content]
