KalGold to test for strike extensions at Laverton gold discovery
KalGold to test for strike extensions at Laverton gold discovery
Kalgoorlie Gold Mining is gearing up for an expanded air core drilling campaign to test for extensions to its recent Lighthorse gold discovery at the company’s Pinjin project in Western Australia’s renowned Laverton gold region.
The Lighthorse find sent the company’s shares on a blistering run over two trading days, which saw its share price surge from 2.3 cents to a peak of 9.9c each. The feat earned KalGold a coveted Bulls N’ Bears Runners of the Week nod in early February.
The upcoming drill program will aim to stretch the impressive discovery’s footprint by nearly 2.5 kilometres, with drilling planned for up to 1.4km to the north and 1km to the south of the mineralised zone.
Management plans to begin the air core program in late April, subject to rig availability. It plans to drill 100 holes for 4500 metres to 5500m depending on the depth of cover and weathering.
The drilling is expected to follow a nominal 160m to 200m-by-80m pattern and final drill collar locations will be determined based on any constraints to local access. The program is expected to take about three weeks.
The drill program will test several prospective target areas including mineralisation and anomalism immediately to the north of the footprint to stretch its northern extension.
Lighthorse is a compelling gold discovery with a defined 600m footprint, open for several kilometres to the north and south within the Laverton Tectonic Zone. The upcoming air core program will extend effective drill coverage approximately 1400m north along strike and selectively infill historically ineffective drilling over a 1000m strike length to the south.
KalGold’s nearby Convergence target area is 1km north of Lighthorse and sits where the Lighthorse corridor narrows from 1000m to about 400m east to west and deviates towards a north-westerly strike.
A southern extension will be tested for gold mineralisation and anomalism immediately south of the main discovery area. Historic drilling has been sparse, shallow and mostly ineffective.
KalGold’s initial interpretations of the controls on gold mineralisation at Lighthorse are based on existing data suggesting a brittle, intermediate to mafic, volcanic or subvolcanic unit is the main host to the mineralisation.
According to its working model, warping and deformation in the Laverton Tectonic Zone has caused the unit to crack, providing permeability for gold-mineralising fluids.
Management believes the Convergence area to the north is a significant exploration target as the strike direction changes dramatically.
An ongoing reverse circulation drill program is in progress at Lighthorse, centred around the air core discovery zone, consisting of up to 2500m across 16 drill holes on a 100m-by-80m pattern.
The drilling is designed to penetrate underneath the laterally extensive supergene blanket comprising the discovery and test for primary gold mineralisation in fresh rock at depth below it. The program is expected to take two weeks and gold assays will be fast-tracked. Results are due in mid to late-April.
The distribution of gold observed within the newly discovered zone appears typical of a weathered gold deposit. A horizontal supergene mineralised blanket extends east-west for about 500m at depths below 30m to 40m of transported cover.
The new Lighthorse gold discovery returned several stellar assays including 17m grading 4.81 grams per tonne (g/t) from a depth of 48m and 4m at 4.72g/t from 52m.
Management says the two intervals form a high-grade centre to results announced in December last year, including 8m at 2.29g/t from 60m and 4m going 1.05g/t from 52m. It believes extensive wide-spaced intercepts at the greenfields gold discovery suggest the company may have encountered a large primary gold system.
The discovery zone has a 600m strike running parallel to the Laverton Tectonic zone and remains open to the northwest and southeast. The deposit contains a 200m-wide gold target that remains open down dip with cross-cutting mineralised structures that extend for more than 800m and remain open to the northeast.
KalGold says Lighthorse, 140km northeast of the famous gold mining town of Kalgoorlie, has a larger footprint than either of its nearby Kirgella Gift or Providence deposits.
Recent finds by companies on nearby ground confirm the southeastern section of the Eastern Goldfields as a hot spot for exploration and KalGold holds an extensive footprint in the area.
Several of KalGold’s deposits have defined resources. It recently revealed a 2.34-million-tonne resource grading 1g/t gold for 76,400 ounces, with mineralisation starting from a depth of 3m at the Kirgella Gift-Providence deposits.
The company also has the Bulong Taurus project, about 35km east of Kalgoorlie-Boulder. The project contains the outcropping La Mascotte gold deposit, which has a 2012 JORC-compliant inferred resource of 3.61mt at 1.19g/t gold for 138,000 ounces.
WA’s renowned 30m-ounce Laverton Tectonic zone is one of the State’s most well-endowed gold regions and hosts several producing gold mines, including AngloGold Ashanti’s 10.3m-ounce Sunrise Dam, Gold Fields Limited’s 5.8m-ounce Granny Smith operation and Ramelius Resources’ nearby Rebecca project containing a 1.1m-ounce gold resource.
Today, fellow ASX-listed goldie Latitude 66 Limited announced it was preparing to this month launch a major 9000m air core drilling campaign at its fully owned Edjudina gold project, which is also near KalGold’s high-grade discovery.
KalGold’s existing reverse circulation drill program testing for depth extensions into fresh rock, coupled with the planned April air core program to extend the strike zone, may potentially transform the Lighthorse project into one of WA’s better recent discoveries. With the gold price up nearly 11 per cent this year, the company will gather many more admirers if the drilling programs achieve their objectives.

Philippine ex-President Duterte brushes off possible arrest by ICC on a trip to Hong Kong
Philippine ex-President Duterte brushes off possible arrest by ICC on a trip to Hong Kong
HONG KONG (AP) — An unannounced trip by former Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte to Hong Kong set off speculations on Sunday that he may be trying to evade a possible arrest warrant by the International Criminal Court over his bloody crackdown on drugs while in power.
Duterte and his daughter — the incumbent Philippine vice president — were the main speakers in a campaign rally at the Southorn Stadium in the busy Wan Chai commercial district for the senatorial candidates of his political party ahead of the May 12 midterm elections in the Philippines. Thousands of cheering and flag-waving ********* expatriates packed the stadium to watch Duterte speak.
In his expletives-laden speech, Duterte touched on news reports about the ICC possibly issuing a warrant for his arrest and repeated that he was ready to be jailed.

See for yourself — The Yodel is the go-to source for daily news, entertainment and feel-good stories.
The ICC has been investigating the large number of killings by police and gunmen under the former president’s crackdown against ******** drugs, which left thousands of mostly poor suspects dead.
Duterte has denied he authorized extrajudicial killings but he openly and repeatedly threatened to kill suspected drug dealers while in office 2016-2022.
“What was my sin?” Duterte asked in his speech in Hong Kong. “I did everything in my time so Filipinos can have a little peace and tranquility.”
“If this is my fate in life, it’s OK, I’ll accept it. I can’t do anything if I get arrested and jailed,” said the former populist president, now 79 and in poor health.
He told the crowd in jest to make small contributions for the construction of his monument, which he said should show him holding a gun.
Associated Press journalists were initially allowed to go into the stadium to cover Duterte, but they were later forced out by unidentified organizers of the event.
A senior Philippine official said the former president was scheduled to fly back to Manila on Tuesday but another senior Philippine official said Duterte has the option of extending his stay in Hong Kong. Both officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to publicly discuss the sensitive issue.
In the Philippine capital, Manila, Communications Secretary Jay Ruiz said President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s administration was ready to handle any situation arising from the issuance of an ICC arrest warrant.
“We’ve heard that an arrest warrant has been issued by the International Criminal Court against former President Rodrigo Duterte for crimes against humanity,” Ruiz said in a statement to reporters. “The government is prepared for any eventuality.
In the southern Philippine city of Davao, Duterte’s home region, additional police forces were deployed to beef up the security at the international airport and man new checkpoints. Philippine police told reporters the move was part of an exercise to ensure law enforcers would be able to handle any contingency.
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has said that Philippine law enforcement agencies would be bound to fully cooperate if the ICC seeks the custody of his predecessor.
The Hague-based ICC was created in 2002 to serve as a court of last resort for the most serious international crimes: genocide, war crimes, crimes against humanity and aggression. The ICC becomes involved when nations are unable or unwilling to prosecute crimes on their territory.
About 125 countries have signed the court’s foundational treaty, the Rome Statute, but China, which has control over Hong Kong, has not.
Duterte withdrew the Philippines from the ICC in 2019 in a move activists said was an attempt to evade accountability and prevent an international probe into the drug killings. However, the ICC still has jurisdiction over alleged crimes committed when the Philippines was a member.

Motive’s Iron Man Game Might Be Demo Ready at GDC
Motive’s Iron Man Game Might Be Demo Ready at GDC
In just a few days, GDC will take place in San Francisco (and Insider Gaming will be in attendance!). It’s a proving ground for countless developers and publishers to show off what they’re working on, as well as for manufacturers to reveal the latest and greatest in gaming technology.
One topic that has surfaced recently concerns EA Motive’s Iron Man game, which has been kept mostly under wraps since it was revealed more than two years ago. In a recent schedule post, it was revealed that Motive will be presenting something to do with Iron Man at GDC.
Becoming Stark
Almost nothing is known about the Iron Man game being pieced together by Motive, but there are high hopes that it’ll deliver nicely on expectations. Fans are wishing for an open-ended game with full suit customisation that allows them to immerse themselves in the role of Tony Stark.
In September 2022, it was revealed that Motive is working on the game, as well as contributing to the ongoing development of the next Battlefield title. Historically, Motive has contributed to the Dead Space Remake, Star Wars Squadrons, and Battlefront II.
On the Iron Man front, all we know right now is that it’s a single-player, third-person action title. Shortly after the game was announced, we covered the playtests that were going on behind closed doors, and since then, production has kicked off in earnest, so it must be in a much better state by now.
Recently, eagle-eyed Reddit users discovered an Advanced Graphics Summit segment taking place at GDC on March 17. The session is being led by a technical artist from Electronic Arts, and the content is set to be focused on the development of texture sets for Dead Space and Iron Man at Motive.
The belief is that Motive will be showing off at least something from Iron Man during this segment, which would represent our first look at the game since it was announced in 2022. Even if the technical demo provides little more than a look at Iron Man’s suit, fans will be satisfied.
As you need certain credentials to access the tech summit hosted by EA at GDC, it’s highly unlikely that anything will be released publicly around this time, but you never know. It’s also entirely possible that we’ll see some kind of demo or trailer revealed during the Epic Unreal showcase at GDC, given that Iron Man is being built in UE5.
What hopes do you have for Motive’s Iron Man? Let me know in the comments or on the Insider Gaming forum.

The Grim Reality of President Donald Trump’s Social Security Plan
The Grim Reality of President Donald Trump’s Social Security Plan
For most current and future retirees, Social Security income isn’t a luxury or optional. It’s a source of income that most will rely on to cover their expenses as they age.
In each of the previous 23 years, national pollster Gallup has conducted surveys to gauge how reliant retirees are on the Social Security income they receive. Between 80% and 90% of respondents, including 88% last year, noted it was needed, in some capacity, to make ends meet.
Despite Social Security being foundational to the financial well-being of our nation’s aging workforce, the program’s own foundation is anything but sound. The financial outlook for this program is deteriorating, and the American public is counting on its elected officials, which includes President Donald Trump, to strengthen Social Security.
Unfortunately, not all solutions — even those made with good intentions by President Trump — improve Social Security’s outlook.

Before digging into the specifics of President Trump’s Social Security plan, it’s important to understand how America’s leading social program got to where it is now.
Since 1940, the Social Security Board of Trustees has released an annual report that intricately details how the program generates income and where every dollar of its outlays (i.e., benefits and, to a lesser extent, administrative expenses) is directed.
Often the more valuable aspect of these annual Trustees Reports is their forward modeling. The Trustees account for changes in fiscal and monetary policy, along with ongoing demographic shifts, to assess the financial stability of Social Security payouts 75 years into the future. This long-term forecast has been estimating a funding obligation shortfall for 40 consecutive years. In the 2024 Trustees Report, this 75-year cash shortfall clocked in at $23.2 trillion.
Although this is a big number, the scarier statistic is the expected depletion of the Old-Age and Survivor’s Insurance Trust Fund’s (OASI’s) asset reserves by 2033. If the OASI’s asset reserves run dry, retired workers and survivor beneficiaries could see their Social Security checks slashed by up to 21% in eight years.
To be as clear as possible, the OASI wouldn’t be bankrupt or insolvent if its asset reserves were depleted. Rather, it would mean the existing payout schedule, including annual cost-of-living adjustments (COLAs), isn’t sustainable.
The culprit for Social Security’s woes has nothing to do with social media message board myths of congressional theft or undocumented workers receiving traditional Social Security checks. Rather, it’s the result of sustained demographic shifts, which includes rising income inequality, a historically low U.S. birth rate, and a 58% decline in legal net migration into the U.S. over 25 years.
Story Continues
The OASI’s asset reserves are forecast to be gone by 2033. US Old-Age and Survivors Insurance Trust Fund Assets at End of Year data by YCharts.
With a clearer understanding of the challenges facing America’s leading retirement program, let’s turn to President Donald Trump’s three separate Social Security proposals.
While on the campaign trail, prior to his November election, Trump repeatedly promised not to touch Social Security. In other words, he pledged not to propose/enact major reforms that would potentially alter the benefits current and future retirees receive.
Though it’s been documented for decades that Social Security’s financial outlook is weakening, lawmakers tend to avoid this dubbed “third rail of politics.” Any significant changes to Social Security would make at least some people worse off than they were before. This could cost a president and/or his party votes in an upcoming election. Doing nothing and maintaining a hands-off approach is the easiest way to avoid angering voters.
President Trump’s second Social Security proposal is to make the program more efficient. In a December 2024 interview with Kristen Welker at Meet the Press, then-president-elect Trump responded to a question regarding the possibility of Social Security cuts by stating:
I said to people we’re not touching Social Security, other than we make it more efficient. But the people are going to get what they’re getting.
During Donald Trump’s first term in the White House, all four of his annual presidential budgets called for efficiency-based cuts to Social Security. One example would have reduced retroactive benefits to workers with disabilities to six months from 12 months. These efficiency-based cuts, which would have been recognized over 10 fiscal years (the federal government’s fiscal year ends on Sept. 30), totaled between $24 billion and $72 billion in reduced outlays, based on presidential budget projections.
The third aspect of President Trump’s Social Security plan involves the removal of the taxation of benefits. In a July post on social media platform Truth Social, Trump wrote, “Seniors should not pay tax on Social Security.” Getting rid of this tax on benefits would be extremely popular with seniors and would increase Social Security checks for around half of all retirees.
Following the passage of the Social Security Amendments of 1983, up to 50% of benefits could be exposed to the federal tax rate if provisional income (adjusted gross income + tax-free interest + one-half benefits) surpassed $25,000 for single filers and $32,000 for couples filing jointly. In 1993, a second tax tier was added that made up to 85% of Social Security benefits applicable to federal taxation if provisional income crested $34,000 for single filers and $44,000 for jointly filing couples.
Last month, a White House correspondent confirmed with CNBC that the president is planning to fulfill his campaign promise to do away with the taxation of benefits.
While there’s little doubt the president’s three-pronged approach to Social Security would likely keep voters happy, what’s popular and well-intentioned isn’t always what’s financially best for Social Security. The grim reality is that none of these three proposals would meaningfully improve the program. In fact, two of the three would make things decisively worse.
For instance, doing nothing is the safe approach that most presidents and members of Congress choose. However, doing nothing fails to address the $23.2 trillion (and growing) long-term funding shortfall, and it doesn’t alter the projection of the OASI exhausting its asset reserves in eight years. By kicking the can, President Trump and Congress are only making an eventual solution even costlier.
The one aspect of President Trump’s Social Security plan that wouldn’t make things worse is proposed efficiency-based cuts. But the caveat to efficiency-based cost-cutting is that it hardly moves the needle.
Estimates from the 2024 Trustees Report pegged the combined outlays for the OASI and Disability Insurance Trust Fund at $19.09 trillion from 2024 through 2033. Meanwhile, Trump’s budget proposals during his first term would have reduced outlays by, at most, $72 billion over a decade (fiscal 2018 through fiscal 2027). Efficiency-based reductions simply don’t do enough to make a dent into Social Security’s short- or long-term funding issues.
But the biggest reality-check of all would be if Donald Trump eliminated the tax on benefits.
Social Security only has three sources of funding:
The 12.4% payroll tax on wages and salary between $0.01 and $176,100, as of 2025.
The interest income earned on its asset reserves, which are invested in special-issue government bonds, as required by law.
The tax on benefits.
Ending the tax on benefits would remove one of the program’s three sources of income. Interest income isn’t guaranteed, either, with the OASI’s asset reserves being whittled away.
Removing the taxation of benefits would lower estimated income by $950 billion to $1.45 trillion over a decade, based on various estimates. In other words, it would speed up the timeline to the OASI’s asset reserve depletion date and potentially increase the amount benefits need to be cut for retired workers and survivor beneficiaries.
Strengthening Social Security will require some tough decisions. President Trump’s Social Security plan simply doesn’t cut it.

Policeman convicted for viral torture video found dead in jail
Policeman convicted for viral torture video found dead in jail
A former Thai police chief who was jailed for life three years ago for torturing a drug suspect to death has been found dead in his Bangkok jail cell, authorities said.
Thitisan Utthanaphon, who was nicknamed Joe Ferrari for his many luxury cars, died by suicide, according to a preliminary autopsy.
In 2021, a leaked video showed Thitisan and his colleagues wrapping plastic bags around the head of a 24-year-old drug suspect during an interrogation, leading to the suspect’s death.
The video sparked national outrage at that time over police brutality in Thailand. It has made fresh rounds on social media in the wake of Thitisant’s death.
Thailand’s justice ministry called for an investigation into his death after his family expressed doubts that he killed himself. Further tests will be done to confirm that he had indeed died in a suicide.
The family said Thitisant was previously assaulted by a prison staffer. They said officials did not allow them to see his body, which was found in his cell on Friday.
But on Sunday authorities said “no prison officer or inmate has harmed or caused [his] death”.
A previous raid on Thitisant’s house revealed that he owned a dozen luxury sportscars. Authorities believe he owned at least 42, one of them a rare Lamborghini Aventador Anniversario, of which only 100 were made, priced in Thailand at 47 million baht ($1.45m; £1.05m).
As a police colonel, Thitisant was paid about $1,000 a month.
There were allegations that he demanded bribes from the suspect in the viral video, Jirapong Thanapat, while suffocating him. Thitisant denied this.
Besides Thitisant, five other police officers were convicted of murdering Jirapong and were also sentenced to life in prison in 2022.
The Department of Corrections said they had been investigating a previous complaint filed by Thitisant’s family alleging that he had been bullied and assaulted by prison officers earlier this year.
Thitisant had consulted doctors over anxiety issues and trouble sleeping, the department said.
His family visited him on the day that he died and prison staff did not notice any “abnormalities”, it said.

Flies on fish. Bad empanadas. Piles of food at a Miami chain supermarket got trashed
Flies on fish. Bad empanadas. Piles of food at a Miami chain supermarket got trashed
From fish heads to pigs feet, all kinds of flesh and fruit at a Miami Gardens supermarket got sent to the garbage when state inspectors unleashed a monsoon of Stop ***** Orders during a visit this week.
Inspectors also found inadequate hand-washing, equipment maintenance and cleanliness at the Price Choice Foodmarket at 18351 NW 27th Ave. when they dropped by Wednesday.
This Price Choice, owned by J&J Family Food Corp. (president, secretary, treasurer, director Davie’s Juan Diaz), also failed an inspection in 2022 when mold grew on food and equipment. A year ago, the Hialeah Price Choice, owned by J Mary J Food Corp. (Juan Diaz, secretary, Plantation’s Osiris Diaz, president), got caught leaving food on pallets out near the sidewalk, leaving doors open for pests and leaving general cleanliness behind.
Here’s some of what filled a 12-page inspection report by Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services inspectors Pedro Llanos and Kaitlyn Ford.
“Numerous small, flying insects observed around the kitchen, produce, meat, seafood, retail, receiving and dumpster areas.” So, pretty much the whole store.
Someone working in the food service area “didn’t wash hands before putting on gloves.”
A kitchen area food employee didn’t wash hands when coming back into the kitchen from who knows where.
The meat area’s handwash sink next to the three-compartment sink apparently isn’t in what the MTV generation called “heavy rotation,” seeing as how it was “found with old food debris on the fixture.”
“Single use gloves” were used to cut raw meat, handle equipment and handle salted fish filet (bacalao). That’s three uses. Stop ***** on the 50-pound box of bacalao, and the equipment got cleaned.
(This will not be the last of the Stop Sales).
A case of fish sat inside walk-in cooler, uncovered, though the store does actually sell things like Saran Wrap.
In the food service area, the meat grinder, on the job since 8 a.m., hadn’t been washed, rinsed and sanitized as of 1:30 a.m. That’s supposed to happen after every four hours of use.
The kitchen three-compartment sink’s sanitizer wasn’t just below the required 200 parts per million, it was non-existent: zero parts per million.
Near that triple sink, there were “buckets of food items stored directly on the floor.”
“Carbon buildup” marred kitchen pots and pans. “Soil and old food debris” did the same to the bottom shelves of a walk-in freezer.
In the meat and seafood areas, the walk-in cooler’s air conditioning was “leaking above the table saw.” Apparently, this A/C version of a runny nose spread to the backroom area’s walk-in cooler’s A/C condenser.
The kitchen’s hot water heater was broken, but repaired during the inspection.
In the food service area, the inspectors saw a “knock board used to discard espresso grinds stored inside a receptacle used for general trash.” Yes, this is standard procedure for Miami-Dade places serving cafecito, and, yes, it’s still a violation.
Succession of Stop ***** Orders
Despite being a supermarket, which one could expect sells a functional food thermometer, inspectors found this Price Choice had “no probe thermometer available for assessing, receiving and holding” of foods.
So, once inspectors started poking the food with their thermometers, the parade of food to the garbage began.
What should’ve been for packaged, sliced watermelon that had been on the produce shelves and raw pork ribs cut the previous night: measuring at or below 41 degrees.
What actually was for the three trays of watermelon slices and six styrofoam trays of pork ribs: 54 degrees and 44 to 46 degrees, respectively. Stop ***** and Stop *****.
On the produce shelves where that watermelon had previously lived, another 52 packages of sliced and chunked watermelon, honeydew and canteloupe sat at 44 degrees to a balmy, mushy 66 degrees. *******.
In the meat department, the peddled flesh kept at bacteria boat temperatures of 44 to 50 degrees included salami (Strike 1), bacon (Strike 2) and beef bologna (Strike 3). Three up, three down, 26 packages smashed with a Stop *****.
The inspectors wound up clearing out the hot counter storage unit, which contained chicken empanadas, beef pastelitos, potatoes stuffed with beef, yuca stuffed with beef, beef patties, packaged pork roast and a tray of chicharrones.
All should’ve been kept at or over 135 degrees. The chicharrones came in at 81 degrees. The packaged pork roast at 103 degrees and everything else at 116 to 117 degrees. Inspectors allowed the chicharrones to be reheated and showered Stop Sales on the rest.
The seafood display counter showed cod, conch, corvina, grouper and shrimp on ice. There needed to be more ice or colder ice. Temperatures of 46 to 55 degrees said the seafood sat on insufficient ice. Thus did the garbage gain a fishy odor from the Stop Sales on four trays of seafood.
A 2.5-pound bucket of marinated chicken leg quarters in the kitchen area came in at 53 degrees. But, far more disturbing in the kitchen area was a “container storing tripe and pigs feet.”
Whether or not the tripe and pigs feet sat in green juice, they were being thawed at room temperature, measured 73 degrees, a temperature that can turn pork into food-borne illness Death Stars able to blow up your insides.
The dry breading used for frying the raw fish hadn’t been used since the previous day and wasn’t sifted every four hours nor had it been refrigerated. These shortcomings led to a Stop ***** on a 4-inch deep, 12-inch by 10-inch pan of breading.
“Flying insect observed on grouper fish heads at the display counter.” Stop ***** on two fish heads.

Mithril drills 4.95m at 20.5g/t gold, 1833g/t silver in Mexico
Mithril drills 4.95m at 20.5g/t gold, 1833g/t silver in Mexico
Bulls N’ Bears Big Hits this week examines some notable drill intercepts revealed on the ASX, including Mithril Silver and Gold Limited’s 4.95-metre intercept in Mexico that assayed 20.5 grams per tonne (g/t) gold and 1833g/t silver.
Variscan Mines’ San Jose Mine in Spain and Redcastle Resources’ Queen Alexandra project in Western Australia’s Eastern Goldfields also reported interesting drill hits.
Let’s dive in.
———-
Mithril Silver and Gold (ASX: MTH)
La Soledad, Copalquin Au-Ag district, Durango State, Mexico.
Hit: 20.5g/t gold, 1833g/t silver over 4.95m
Mithril’s latest diamond core drilling results from its La Soledad Target 1 resource expansion program in Mexico has reported some significant drill intercepts. One hole produced an impressive run of precious metal grades, comprising an overall run of 4.95m at 20.5g/t gold and 1833g/t silver from 107m.
The stand-out intercept includes 0.55m at 110g/t gold and 7530g/t silver from 110m, 0.56m going 22.8g/t gold and 1425g/t silver from 130.49m, and 3.77m running 1.42g/t gold and 100.8g/t silver from 136.78m.
The last run also contained a 0.92m long section assaying 4.97g/t gold and 296.4g/t silver from 136.78m.
Four other drill holes reported significant gold and silver grades up to 15g/t gold and 1130g/t silver.
The company expects a second drill rig to start onsite shortly. This will enable it to drill up to 35,000m this year to advance the two main target areas and contribute to the overall geological understanding of a 10-kilometre-wide epithermal gold-silver system within its 70 square kilometre project area.
The project is within the Copalquin mining district, which has 100 historic underground gold-silver mines and workings and almost 200 open surface workings and pits – many identified by LiDAR scanning. The company has identified several target areas in the district.
One target in the centre of the concession area encloses the El Refugio deposit which, combined with La Soledad, already hosts a maiden high-grade gold-silver JORC-compliant resource totalling 2.4 million tonnes (mt) at an average gold grade of 4.8g/t and silver averaging 141g/t, for a total of 529,000 gold equivalent ounces at an average gold equivalent grade of 6.81g/t.
Mineralisation in the indicated category comprises 28.6 per cent of the resource.
The El Refugio resource is further supported by a conceptual underground mining study completed on the maiden resource in early 2022. Metallurgical testwork was also undertaken in 2022.
Six holes were completed and reported in February at La Soledad, further expanding the footprint and structural knowledge of the north-west trending silver and gold-rich structure. Mithril notes the area exhibits “considerable strike and depth potential”.
Drilling at La Soledad, on the northeastern side of the Target 1 resource area, has returned excellent intercepts ahead of the planned resource update and is ongoing. A further seven holes have been completed and samples from four of the holes have been sent for assays.
Target 1 also contains the La Cometa mineralised zone, where initial drilling identified multiple shallow intercepts. The El Cometa area features broad mineralisation with cross-cutting structures that host high-grade gold and silver, including a 2024 drill hole that intercepted 33m going 31.8g/t gold and 274g/t silver from surface.
The district lies within the renowned Sierra Madre gold-silver trend that extends north-south along the western side of Mexico and hosts many world-class gold and silver deposits.
Multiple mineralising events, young intrusives thought to be heat sources driving mineralisation, widespread alteration, extensive surface vein exposures and dozens of historic mine workings all serve to characterise the Copalquin district as a major epithermal gold-silver centre.
Mithril has successfully delivered a maiden JORC mineral resource estimate within 15 months of kicking off drilling in the Copalquin district and has resoundingly proven its high-grade gold-silver resource potential.

Variscan Mines Ltd (ASX: VAR)
La Caseta (Central) zone, San Jose mine, Novales-Udias project, Spain.
Hit: 15.3m at 17.42 per cent zinc and 4.4 per cent lead
Perth-based Variscan Mines released an impressive base-metal headline result from underground infill drilling at its San Jose mine in Spain, with its best-ever intercept from one hole at the mine.
The headline drill hole is part of a focussed diamond coring program to identify possible feeder zones adjacent to existing measured and indicated resources in the La Caseta (Central) area of the San Jose mine at its more northerly Novales project area.
The program returned exceptional results from all three drill holes put into La Caseta, including the headline intercept that features massive sphalerite in dolostone from 0m to 16.95m.
The result is supported by other excellent responses. A second hole intercepted 14.30m going 8.09 per cent zinc and 1.28 per cent lead, while a third hole jagged 15.25m running 6.10 per cent zinc and 0.46 per cent lead.
The underground infill drilling is believed to have successfully identified one of the mine’s key mineralising feeder systems.
Dolostone or dolomite rock is a magnesium calcium carbonate rock type, while dolomite is the dominant mineral making up the rock. The carbonate rock forms when magnesium and calcium carbonates precipitate from water.
Carbonate-hosted lead-zinc ore deposits are important and highly valuable concentrations of lead and zinc ores hosted within carbonate formations that may contain limestone, marl or dolomite or a combination of the mineral types.
These ore bodies may range from 0.5mt of contained ore to more than 20mt of ore and may grade from 4 per cent combined lead and zinc to more than 14 per cent. The ore bodies tend to be compact, fairly uniform plug-like or pipe-like replacements of their host carbonate sequences and can sustain extremely profitable mines.
San Jose’s mineralisation style is classified as Mississippi Valley-type (MVT) hosted within a stratiform dolomitic unit.
The company’s nearby Novales and Udias projects are separated by about 5.2km along a 12km long north-east/south-west striking prospective trend within the company’s tenure, with the San Jose mine at Novales being the northernmost of the two locations, about 3km south of Spain’s northern coastline.
The projects lie within the Basque-Cantabrian basin, which is one of Europe’s premier zinc-lead regions. The San Jose mine is only 9.5km northwest of the world-class Reocin zinc deposit endowed with 62mt at a grade of 9.7 per cent zinc and 1 per cent lead.
An additional important strategic consideration is that the San Jose mine is 145km east-southeast of Glencore’s Asturias de Zinc smelter, which is one of the biggest such smelters globally.
The combined 2012 JORC-compliant mineral resource estimate for the formerly-producing San Jose mine at Novales and the company’s more southerly Udias deposit is classified within the measured, indicated and inferred categories.
In December last year, Variscan announced an update to its combined mineral resource estimate for both operations, totalling 3.4mt at 7.61 per cent zinc and 0.88 per cent lead, making it the highest-grade zinc development project currently on the ASX. It offers the company strong basis upon which to launch any mine re-start studies.
Measured and indicated resources represent 67 per cent of the San Jose mine resource. The company says its measured grades are higher than any other category or deposit at 9.18 per cent zinc and 1.8 per cent lead.
The core for the headline drill hole was cut mostly on 1m intervals, yielding a best single 1m interval of 34.1 per cent zinc and 12.45 per cent lead. The interval is no orphan, for across the 15.3m intercept, there are six 1m intervals grading above 20 per cent zinc.
At this stage, the Udias deposit carries mineralisation only in the inferred resource category, with exploration work ongoing. Maiden underground drilling at Udias only kicked off in mid-November, following the completion of the underground infill drilling at San Jose.
The style of zinc mineralisation at Udias is identical to that found at the San Jose mine and consists of multiple stacked lenses of high-grade zinc sulphide mineralisation occurring at the same elevations as at San Jose, suggesting there is no vertical offset.
The 12km-long zone features numerous scattered historic workings that appear to be most prolific in the San Jose Central zone.
Variscan is exploring within only about 4.5km of a 12km strike trend featuring abundant historic evidence of extensive, metallurgically simple, MVT-style zinc-lead sulphide mineralisation at shallow depths ranging from 170m to 240m.
The company says the results reported from both Udias and San Jose are significant, producing five of its best-ever 20 drill holes and confirming the quality of the Novales-Udias project and the effectiveness of its drilling program.
Variscan is the only active explorer-developer in Cantabria and with little more than a passing assessment, the company can be seen to command considerable potential for a resource expansion within its extensive tenure.

Redcastle Resources (ASX: RC1)
Queen Alexandra project, Eastern Goldfields, Western Australia
Hit: 4m at 10.94g/t gold from 6m
Redcastle Resources has jagged some strong hits from its recent 6500m reverse circulation drilling program at its Queen Alexandra gold show, about 58km east/southeast of the Gwalia Gold mine at Leonora in Western Australia’s Eastern Goldfields.
The shallow, high-grade results nicely spiced up the program, which Redcastle also managed to knock off under budget, giving it a further 3200m of drilling to play with for a total of 99 holes over 9700m.
The drilling highlights include high-grade intercepts at shallow depths in an undrilled northern area, with a best intercept of 4m at 10.94g/t gold from just 6m depth in one hole and a second hole nailing 4m at 4.79 g/t gold from 8m.
The company kicked off the program in early December last year to expand its existing resources and identify new targets within or near known gold mineralised zones.
The plan also included drilling at nearby Redcastle Reef and was later extended to include the Morgan’s Castle East prospect further east. All three prospects are disposed along an 860m north-west/south-east trend.
The infill pattern at Queen Alexandra was planned to comprise 34 holes each about 80m deep for a total of 2720m on a nominal 25m by 25m grid spacing to follow up on successful drilling program completed in July last year,
Other drilling results from the company’s newly named Kestrel Lode at the Queen Alexandra project include the next three top gold intercepts, with 7m going 10.16g/t from 42m, 3m assaying 6.43g/t from 15m and 2m running 7.78 g/t from 77m.
Three more holes from Kestrel produced intercepts between 2m and 3m long carrying gold grades ranging from 4.09g/t to 5.26g/t. The string of six holes – in concert with previous drilling results – defines locally continuous mineralisation in multiple directions.
Drilling at Queen Alexandra has revealed a new zone of high-grade gold which may represent a near-surface, free-dig, free-milling, high-grade secondary gold resource amenable to carbon-in-leach processing.
Redcastle says the zone justifies further follow-up drilling with a further 17 holes as part of the original program metreage and that it is planning bulk sampling of the shallow high-grade mineralisation.
Bulk sampling will further inform a scoping study towards possible toll treatment of the resource, which will follow updating of last year’s maiden mineral resource for the north-dipping stacked shoots at Queen Alexandra, where mineralisation is open in both directions.
Improving the grades with increasing depth represents significant upside potential for Queen Alexandra.
The prospect’s current mineral resource comprises 107,800t at an average grade of 3.06g/t gold for a total of 10,600 ounces of gold. It predominantly comprises material within the oxide and transitional profiles, with minimal fresh material included, to a depth of 50m below surface. That is nominally the maximum depth of drilling.
Redcastle says it now envisages an extensive east-west gold corridor, with the Queen Alexandra project at its core, stretching eastwards to Coronation and possibly further to its Redcastle Reef and Morgan’s Castle East prospects.
With continued exploration, it figures the corridor could extend even further, possibly up to 2.5 km.
Management says the recent results have helped develop a good understanding of the mineralisation, its extent and potential, prompting it to believe that 2025 will be a breakout year for the company.
Confirmation of the extent of shallow, high-grade mineralisation at Queen Alexandra now warrants initiation of the bulk sampling exercise to support a scoping study for an open pit development, which could extend to potential underground development.
Additionally, drilling results from the company’s nearby Redcastle Reef and Morgan’s Castle deposits point to the possibility of satellite open pit developments that could further drive commercial expansion, underpinned by favourable gold prices and available third-party toll treatment.

Experts raise “serious doubt” about COVID vaccine study claiming mRNA harms
Experts raise “serious doubt” about COVID vaccine study claiming mRNA harms
The COVID-19 pandemic is in the rearview mirror for many people, despite the fact that the virus still kills hundreds every week and could surge again if another mutated strain comes along, as witnessed multiple times in the last five years. Still, infections are at relative lows lately thanks in part to acquired immunity from infections and vaccines. Indeed, record-breaking vaccine development played a big role in keeping the SARS-CoV-2 virus at bay.
Vaccine skeptics have long-since leveraged the rapid roll out of mRNA vaccines to add fuel to heated arguments surrounding vaccine safety. As a result, a growing share of the public is wary of getting vaccinated with both mRNA and other kinds of vaccines. Yet, despite the fact that their developmental process has been unfolding over decades and these vaccines were subject to the same safety standards as others, political figures continue to push forward unvalidated research to take aim at mRNA vaccines, with serious health consequences.
Those sentiments are being reflected at the state level, too. Earlier this week, Iowa lawmakers advanced a bill that would prohibit the administration of mRNA vaccines, and Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis also called for a permanent ban on mRNA vaccine mandates. Last month, Kentucky lawmakers introduced a bill that would make it ******** to give mRNA vaccines to children and would remove vaccine mandates by schools, hospitals and employers while an Idaho regional health department banned COVID vaccines in October.
Last month, researchers from Yale University published a study, which has yet to be peer-reviewed, on the preprint server medRx, which rapidly circulated online among vaccine skeptics. The study said a small group of patients reported lingering symptoms similar to long COVID — including brain fog, fatigue, tinnitus and sleep issues — after receiving the Pfizer or Moderna mRNA COVID vaccine. (Four patients also received the Johnson & Johnson COVID vaccine which does not use mRNA.) It was quickly circulated online and used to support anti-vaccine conspiracies and misinformation.
But experts urged caution when interpreting these results before the study can be verified and peer-reviewed. For one, the study used a small sample size, with only 42 people (and 22 healthy control subjects) self-identifying their symptoms, explained Dr. E. John Wherry, the director of the Institute for Immunology and Immune Health at the University of Pennsylvania, who was not involved in the research.
“When you do studies where you are comparing one cohort to another, there needs to be some rigorous criteria for who is included in a cohort,” Wherry told Salon in a phone interview. “From what I can tell, this is self-identified and it is unclear what exactly that means.”
Because it is a preprint study that has not been peer-reviewed, the authors acknowledged in a press release that their findings needed to be validated. One author told STAT News that the data is not “ready to be used in clinical decision-making.” The corresponding authors of the paper did not respond to Salon’s requests for comment.
“This study is early-stage and requires replication and validation,” they wrote in the paper. “We emphasize the critical task of discerning between meaningful results and random fluctuations in the data.”
Sometimes, reported side effects from medical interventions do turn out to be statistical noise. During the 2009 H1N1 pandemic, for example, early research showed the risk of miscarriage seemed to be elevated among pregnant women who got the vaccine two consecutive years in a row. This was captured in safety surveillance data and further examined by other research from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), which found the signal in the earlier studies to be a false alarm.
On the other hand, other safety signals that appear have led to the removal of certain vaccines from markets. For example, the first rotavirus vaccine was withdrawn in 1999 when researchers detected an increased risk of intussusception, a rare type of bowel obstruction, for children who received the vaccine.

Any medical intervention carries the risk of side effects and vaccines, just like common medications like acetaminophen or aspirin, can sometimes harm people, said Dr. John Moore, a microbiology and immunology professor at Cornell University, who was not involved in the study. Some side effects from the COVID vaccine, like menstrual cycle changes and cardiac issues like myocarditis, have been reported in a small proportion of the population receiving shots. But it is important to weigh these risks with the protective benefits the vaccine provides as well — after all, viruses cause harm too.
“There is a generally acknowledged myocarditis side effect to the mRNA vaccines, predominantly in young men, and it’s invariably in the States been non-fatal,” Moore told Salon in a phone interview. “No one disputes that, but COVID-19 infections cause far more significant and far more prevalent cases of myocarditis and pericarditis.”
Sources emphasized how important it is for doctors and researchers to be guided by patient experience and to explore any potential symptoms that patients report after a COVID-19 vaccine. After all, many patients with long COVID, Lyme disease, and myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS), among other chronic disease conditions, have fought for recognition within a medical system notorious for dismissing or ignoring their experience.
Yet as it stands, “post-vaccination syndrome” — which the authors use to describe the symptoms reported by patients in this preprint study — is not an official diagnosis that has been recognized by medical authorities. Overall, COVID vaccines, including those that employ mRNA, are considered extremely safe.
“When you start analyzing tens of millions of vaccinations for COVID-19, you start to see side effects that pop up at the level of one in a million,” Moore said. “You have to balance that against, per some estimates, between hundreds of thousands and millions of people whose lives were saved in the United States alone by COVID-19 vaccination.”
Still, studies like this fall into precarious circumstances, where researchers often find themselves stuck between a rock and a hard place of trying to follow the data and not fuel a growing mistrust in the medical system. It is a task increasingly difficult to accomplish with political leaders like the secretary of the Department of Health & Human Services Robert F. Kennedy Jr., a known vaccine critic, encouraging vaccine skepticism.
This preprint study recently exploded on social media, where it was shared by Joe Rogan, Alex Berenson and Elon Musk. Two of the authors, described as independent researchers in this paper, are involved with a vaccine injury advocacy nonprofit called React19. One co-author is also suing AstraZeneca over symptoms she experienced after being vaccinated.
As Dr. Adam Gaffney, an assistant professor at Harvard Medical School and a pulmonary and critical care physician at the Cambridge Health Alliance wrote in a STAT News editorial, some of the co-authors seem to be motivated by a genuine desire to “give a voice to a community of patients who are experiencing real suffering.” Yet there are still too many unanswered questions to draw any conclusions about the study.
“[A] closer look at the basic approach and assumptions undergirding this research, the inclusion of vaccine critics among the co-authors, and the ‘patient-led’ paradigm from which it emerged all shed serious doubt on the study’s conclusions,” Gaffney wrote. “In this age of surging anti-vaccine and anti-science sentiment, harm will likely follow.”

Next Xbox Might Not Be a Traditional Console, Insider Claims
Next Xbox Might Not Be a Traditional Console, Insider Claims
Recently, rumours started circulating that developers are starting to prepare games for the ‘next Xbox’. The focus title of these rumours was Call of Duty 2026 – it was claimed that it’d be released on whatever hardware the tech titan produces next, but a recent insider has suggested that might not be the case and that the next Xbox device will likely arrive in 2027 and not 2026.
It was also suggested that the next Xbox won’t be a console at all, but more of a gaming PC with defined hardware that developers can better work with.
The End of Consoles for Xbox
For a while, Xbox has been teetering on a precipice. The brand has well and truly lost this generation of home consoles to the PlayStation 5, and the Xbox One generation should be forgotten about entirely at this point. Recently, a marketing campaign from Xbox proved that ‘everything is an Xbox’ and that you don’t even need a console anymore to be an Xbox-based gamer.
A former Xbox executive even went on record suggesting that Microsoft would stop making hardware right now if it had the choice.
In a segment on the most recent episode of The Xbox Two podcast, Jez Corden, an insider with a solid track record, mentioned that something drastic might be on the horizon.
Instead of creating a full-fledged Xbox console for a 2027 release, he said that Microsoft will instead produce ‘a PC in essence but with a TV-friendly shell that also has a specific set of specs in mind.’
Developers will be building for a Windows PC in a way but in such a way that they know exactly what the specs will be, so they can optimise exactly for it.
Corden also leaned towards writing off the Call of Duty 2026 rumours, explaining, ‘the devkit talk is more about what kind of specs they’ve been told to target for the next Xbox. I’m pretty sure the new hardware is not 2026; it’s 2027.’
The general assumption now is that the next Xbox will be a micro-form Windows-powered PC in a ‘console-like’ shell and chassis that can sit nicely under a television.
It’ll be compatible with all manner of peripherals and inputs, and it’ll likely have a ‘switchable mode’ that ports between a gaming interface and a general Windows layout, so you can treat it like a desktop PC as much as you would a home gaming console.
What do you think about these predictions? Let me know in the comments or on the Insider Gaming forum.

SA working to host Shield final at Adelaide Oval
SA working to host Shield final at Adelaide Oval
South Australia are pushing to host a rare Sheffield Shield final at the Adelaide Oval as the state aims to end the longest current drought in *********** first-class cricket.
After completing a superb win against Victoria on Sunday, SA locked in a home Shield final for the first time in nine years.
The 2015-16 decider, won by Victoria, was held at Glenelg as it coincided with the start of the AFL season and Port Adelaide were already locked in to play St Kilda at the Adelaide Oval.
But there is hope this time around the traditional venue of cricket in SA could be available to stage the Shield final.
The decider is currently scheduled for March 26 to 30, but those dates could be shifted to work around the AFL.
Port will face Richmond at the Adelaide Oval on March 22, while the Adelaide Crows have a match against North Melbourne at the same ground on March 30.
But a drop-in pitch could be installed at the ground for the final to begin on March 24.
After the win against Victoria at the Junction Oval, SA coach Ryan Harris declared his team wanted to play the decider at the Adelaide Oval.
The South *********** Cricket Association said a location for the decider would be confirmed in “coming days”.
AFL CEO Andrew Dillon told reporters last week he was not against the idea of the final being played at the Adelaide Oval.
“If it can be accommodated within our schedule, we absolutely would look at that,” he told reporters.
The AFL was contacted for comment again on Monday.
SA last won a Shield title in 1996 when they hung on for a thrilling draw against Western Australia, in what was also the last time the Adelaide Oval hosted the decider.
All five other states have won at least one Shield since 2013.
It has been a dramatic turnaround for the one-time domestic easybeats this season, having already won the newly-named Dean Jones Trophy as one-day cup winners.
Queensland, NSW, Victoria, and WA, all remain in contention to meet SA in the final ahead of the last round of the home-and-away season.
Test wicketkeeper Alex Carey should be available for the Shield final after recently returning home to Adelaide following Australia’s semi-final exit from the Champions Trophy.
*********** white-ball quick Spencer Johnson could also be selected, having last played a Shield game for SA in November.
However, three-format star Travis Head will be required in the Indian Premier League as Sunrisers Hyderabad open their campaign on March 23.

Dealership Gifts Electric Car to Woman Who Found Racial Slur on an Oil Change Sticker from a Different Dealership (Exclusive)
Dealership Gifts Electric Car to Woman Who Found Racial Slur on an Oil Change Sticker from a Different Dealership (Exclusive)
A New York car dealership has given a new vehicle to a Wisconsin woman after learning that she was discriminated against by another dealership.
Makayla Starks found a racial slur typed on an oil change sticker after she got her car serviced in January at Kunes Buick GMC in Oak Creek.
“While they were supposed to be servicing my car, apparently, an employee typed up a racial slur [the n-word] and put it in the comment section of my oil change sticker. They adhered that to my windshield,” Starks, 33, tells PEOPLE, adding that she didn’t discover the slur until later in the day.
“I sat in my car and cried for 20 minutes,” the Milwaukee resident adds of her reaction after seeing the slur.
Kunes Buick GMC later apologized to her in person, fired the employee who typed the slur and issued a lengthy apology on Instagram after she told her story to the media and the story spread online.

“My fiancé [Joey Koepp] and his friends, who are all members of The People’s Revolution Milwaukee, which is an activist group for ****** Lives Matter and ****** rights, they all encouraged me to go to the media and just to make the community aware that, ‘Hey, this is the type of people who are being employed here,’ ” Starks explains.
The activists and local residents then protested in front of the dealership. Weeks later, on March 1, Starks received a new car from another dealership — Family Nissan in Inwood, N.Y. — after owner Ramzey Rizk heard the couple’s story broadcasted on the news in mid-February.
“We watched people chanting in front of a place … and we were very taken aback by that,” Rizk, 46, tells PEOPLE of watching the news with his colleagues. “And then the meeting kind of erupted into how can we help this person? How can we add more voices to her voice?”
“And then you hear somebody say, ‘Let’s give her a free car.’ And then you hear somebody say, ‘Not just any car, an electric car.’ And then I ask, ‘Why an electric car?’ And they said, ‘Well, because she never has to get an oil change again,’ ” he continues.

On March 1, Rizk and Family Nissan gifted Starks a new Nissan Leaf in person after the dealership contacted her attorney to arrange it all.
“It’s funny,” Starks, a poet, tells PEOPLE about learning she was receiving a new car. “My attorney’s words were, ‘Hey, I have an opportunity for you, or I guess someone who’s interested in doing something for you.’ And I was thinking, ‘Oh, great, more media interviews.’ ”
“And then he’s like, ‘No, someone heard your story. They want to give you a car.’ And I was like, ‘Oh my God. Seriously?‘ I was in disbelief. I was like, ‘Seriously? For real?’ And he’s like, ‘Yes, very real.’ ”

In the Kunes dealership’s apology, they said they were “deeply disturbed and saddened by the incident that has come to light involving one of our employees and a customer, her sense of safety and dignity.”
“We want to be unequivocal: this behavior and the hateful sentiment it implies are absolutely against our values as a company. There is no place for racism or discrimination within our dealership or community,” the apology shared on Feb. 9 continued. “This incident stands in stark contrast to who we are as a company. We recognize the seriousness of this matter and accept our responsibility to ensure a safe, welcoming environment for every person who walks through our doors.”
The dealership added that they were “addressing this with our entire staff,” “reinforcing our corporate values” and “conducting a thorough internal investigation to determine if anyone else played a role in this incident.”
Now, for Starks, she wants to focus on all of the people who have supported her.
“After this incident with the Kunes dealership, I could absolutely walk around with the attitude that people are terrible and nobody likes me,” Starks tells PEOPLE. “[But instead], I’m just trying to focus on people who are supportive and any good that has come out of this.”

7-Eleven takeover moves closer amid talks over fate of stores
7-Eleven takeover moves closer amid talks over fate of stores
STORY: 7-Eleven could be getting closer to a takeover.
Japanese owner Seven & i said Monday it has begun talks with Canada’s Alimentation Couche-Tard over a store ***** plan.
That may set the stage for a $47 billion takeover by the Circle-K operator.
Seven & i has previously said that U.S. antitrust law would be a barrier to any agreement, as the two companies combined would dominate the convenience store market there.
They would have about 20,000 outlets in the United States.
In a letter to shareholders, Seven & i proposed examining how divesting stores could address that, and what buyers might be interested.
Last week, Couche-Tard said it had already begun talks with third parties about such a *****.
It says it has identified a portfolio of U.S. stores that could be offloaded.
Last week also saw Seven & I name outside director Stephen Dacus as its new CEO – the first foreigner to hold that post at the Japanese firm.
He’s been tasked with leading its recovery and responding to the takeover offer.
At a news conference on Friday, he said investors needed a quick decision:
“What I do not think our shareholders would want is for us to spend two-plus years in limbo just for that to be rejected by the U.S. courts. That would not help shareholder value. That would not help shareholder value. It would not help our business. It absolutely would not add to our company’s value.”
U.S. investor Artisan Partners – which holds a big stake in the Japanese firm – on Sunday urged Seven & I to look again at the Couche-Tard offer.
This week, executives from the ********* firm are expected to visit Tokyo to talk to the media about their bid.

I visited the quaint town Disney developed in the 90s. Some homes now sell for 7 figures, but it’s still got a small town charm.
The Walt Disney Company developed Celebration, a residential community in Florida, during the 90s.
Celebration’s first residents arrived in 1996 after winning a housing lottery.
Now, about 11,000 Central Florida residents call Celebration home.
The Walt Disney Company had an ambitious plan in the 1990s: build a picture-perfect community brimming with the charm and feel of America’s small towns.
Until then, the company had primarily focused on attractions and entertainment projects when it developed Celebration, which is a residential community just 15 minutes from Walt Disney World.
While visiting family in Orlando, I decided to drive to Celebration to explore the community 29 years after the first families arrived.
Ahead of my trip, I also spoke with Joe Davison, one of the first postmen in Celebration. He began working at its post office in 1996 and retired in 2009.
“I wouldn’t trade it,” Davison said. “That was by far the best 13 years of work for me.”
I also spoke with Celebration HOA President Don McDonald, who has lived there with his family since the mid-1990s.
“The first few years it was very tight knit,” McDonald said. “There were only a hundred and some odd houses. We knew everybody and the kids knew everybody, and we felt relatively safe letting the kids run free and free range.”
Disney broke ground in 1994.

The Celebration Company — a subsidiary of The Walt Disney Company — developed the community with the help of several architects, including Robert A.M. Stern. Stern’s firm helped create the master plan, which sought to build a picturesque landscape endowed with small-town charm and Southern flair.
“An emphasis on tree-lined streets, parks, and civic buildings will create a strong public realm, an essential ingredient to any real town,” the company website says.
Community is the main focus in Celebration, so the architects created their designs to encourage that.
“Garages are located on alleys, opening the streets to views of houses rather than garage doors, and at the same time allowing for narrower lots which decrease walking distances and enhance the sense of community,” the website says.
When I arrived on a balmy Saturday, the community appeared especially lively. A group of children performed a choreographed dance in a nearby park, where a cultural festival with booths representing different countries and a bouncy house was in full swing. Nearby, families strolled leisurely through the town center.
Disney hosted a lottery to choose Celebration’s first residents.

Celebration’s first residents scored their homes and apartments through a lottery hosted by The Walt Disney Company.
A 1995 article from The Orlando Sentinel reported that once potential homeowners were chosen, they made a refundable $1,000 deposit and an appointment with a sales consultant. The paper reported at the time that homes were worth between $127,000 to over $500,000.
McDonald and his family were among those who entered Disney’s lottery. He and his wife wanted to live in Celebration for education options for their children.
“Disney was going to build a state-of-the-art school, so we wanted to get the kids in,” McDonald said.
The first residents began moving moved into Celebration in 1996, but it wasn’t a bustling town just yet.
“A lot of people moved there from all over the country, but we weren’t really that busy then,” Davison said.
Working in the post office during Celebration’s early years allowed Davison to meet many of the new faces.
“At that point in time, the post office was pretty slow, so a lot of people coming in were residents,” Davison said.
The atmosphere among residents in Celebration was welcoming, which he said was different from his previous post office job in South Miami.
“A lot of them would let you know you didn’t live there,” Davison said about Miami. “In Celebration, nobody ever treated me like an outsider, which is nice in that respect. You felt like part of the community.”
Around 2,700 people called Celebration home by 2000, according to the census data.
Some modern Celebration homes cost millions.

Celebration has grown quite a bit since the first residents arrived in 1996.
Three neighborhood — or village — expansions were completed from 2000 to 2003. The most recent expansion happened in 2021 with Island Village, which is nestled into the west side of Celebration.
On my way to the town center, I noticed the idyllic, charming homes dotting the neighborhood.
Home prices in Celebration vary, but active property listings shared by local real estate agencies show a mix of six- and seven-figure residences. One six-bedroom, six-bathroom home in Celebration Village is selling for $2.5 million, and a four-bedroom, three-bathroom home in Island Village is on the market for $929,000.
Condos, townhomes, and rentals are cheaper. A two-bedroom, three-bathroom townhome in the South Village is priced at $440,000, while a one-bedroom, one-bath condo in Celebration Village rents for $1,550 a month.
The median household income was $97,654 in 2023, according to the US Census Bureau. The town’s population has also grown since the first few residents arrived. About 7,400 residents called Celebration home in 2010, and the population rose to 11,100 by 2020.
The population is around 13,000 as of 2023, according to Census Reporter.
The town center attracts residents and visitors alike.

The town center opened in the fall of 1996.
McDonald said one of the perks of moving to Celebration was how accessible shops and restaurants were to residents.
“Everything was right here in town, so we rarely had to leave,” McDonald said. “To this day, we call it staying in the bubble.”
He recalled being able to travel to Celebration’s downtown, where he could grab a bite, get a haircut, and pick up groceries with ease.
“It was like living in a small town, but we certainly had the amenities of a ******* city. We kind of got the best of both worlds.”
Now, after a private equity firm purchased Celebration’s downtown in 2004, the town center has nearly 60 businesses, shops, and restaurants. Among them is the Downtown Diner, where Max’s Cafe & Coffee Shop used to be. Other businesses in Celebration include a ******** grill restaurant, a martial arts academy, a hotel, and a Starbucks.
While walking through the town center, all I could think about was how it perfectly encapsulated the nostalgia of small American towns. Couples enjoyed fudge treats — courtesy of Kilwins Chocolate and Ice Cream Shop — while friends darted in and out of boutique shops. The streets were lined with pastel-colored buildings, including restaurants that overlooked Lake Rianhard and Lakeside Park.
Although Celebration seems almost artificially perfect, McDonald said his community is very real.
“This is not ‘The Stepford Wives’ or ‘The Truman Show,'” McDonald said. “We don’t have artificial birds in the tree. Every one of those birds is a real bird. They wake me up in the morning.”
Some shops are still in Celebration decades later.

Photographs from the 1990s offer a glimpse into Celebration’s early years, when shops and stores lined Market Street, including Market Street Gallery.
I ventured inside, where they sold everything from sparkling Christmas ornaments to home decor. Items based on Disney characters were displayed around the shop. A website for Celebration’s Town Center said the shop acquired new owners in 2019. It’s family-owned and operated by Celebration residents.
Davison said retailers settled into Celebration, but some struggled to remain in business due to rent prices and what he considered a lack of publicity from Disney.
Celebration is only a 15-minute drive from Magic Kingdom, meaning it’s part of a competitive tourism market where retailers are trying to attract tourists and locals alike.
“Businesses didn’t stay very long because they weren’t making it, to say the least,” Davison said.
McDonald, who used to own antique map store in Celebration, said it was “hard to compete.”
If Celebration ever got a makeover, McDonald said building the downtown closer to U.S. Highway 192 could benefit the retailers because they’d be closer to the broader community.
Celebration’s iconic movie theatre is now defunct.

Davison said the AMC Theatre in Celebration opened its doors in 1996. He said the community gathered at the movie theater one evening to watch a showing of “The Preacher’s Wife,” starring Denzel Washington and Whitney Houston.
“That’s where a lot of people that were living there met each other for the first time,” Davison said.
The movie theater became integral to the Celebration community. It doubled as a church and held Sunday services before a permanent place of worship settled in Celebration. The theater was also the site of Celebration’s first high school graduation.
However, the two-screen, 527-seat theater closed in 2010. A resident told *** in 2018 that the theater’s final showings were “Megamind” and “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1.”
Unfortunately, Celebration’s AMC theatre is still shuttered 15 years later.
The theatre’s doors were locked and the lights were off when I found it during my trip in February. Posters advertising Celebration — not films — were stuck on the darkened windows.
Although the theater stands empty, the building feels like a landmark highlighting Celebration’s early days.
The fountain has kept residents cool for decades.

Most Americans are still bundling up in winter coats and scarves in February, but not Florida. The temperature was about 70 degrees Fahrenheit when I was in Celebration, where most folks wore warm-weather clothes.
The fountain proved to be a popular spot for families and children passing through Celebration’s downtown. Many of them stopped to take in the scenic landscape or splash in the water.
The Inn at Celebration opened at the turn of the century.

A stroll down Bloom Street will lead to The Inn at Celebration, a 115-room hotel built along Lake Rianhard.
The hotel, built in 1999, was previously called the Bohemian Hotel Celebration and the Celebration Hotel. Renovations were completed in late 2024.
Davison said the hotel was a pillar in the community, and at one point, residents used it to host charity bingo games.
It also became valued by the larger Central Florida community, including the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, in the 2000s. The NFL team hosted its camp at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex and housed players at The Inn at Celebration for seven years.
Now, there are several schools in Celebration.
Celebration School in Celebration, Florida in February 2025.Lauren Edmonds/Business Insider
Celebration School welcomed its first students in 1996. A website for the school said students previously attended school in the Town Hall building before the current campus opened in 1997.
“At the time, there was only one school and it was K through 12,” Davison said. “In fact, the first graduating class it was only four kids.”
Davison said the locals threw a small parade on Market Street to celebrate the graduating class, which is just one example of how residents tried to foster a tight-knit community.
As Celebration’s residents grew, so did schooling options for families.
Celebration School pivoted to K-8 education after Celebration High School opened nearby in 2003. Additionally, local children can also attend the Montessori Academy of Celebration, Creation Village World School, and Island Village Elementary School.
