ChatGPT for macOS Gets Upgraded With Code Editing Capability Directly in IDEs
ChatGPT for macOS Gets Upgraded With Code Editing Capability Directly in IDEs
ChatGPT for macOS is getting a new feature that will make it easier for software developers to get coding assistance. Announced last week, the new artificial intelligence (AI) feature allows the OpenAI chatbot to work with integrated development environments (IDEs) and edit code in the user’s preferred coding tool. This will enable them to not spend time manually transferring code and make the process more seamless. The new feature comes just a couple of months after OpenAI expanded the Canvas feature to the Mac version of ChatGPT.
ChatGPT for macOS Gets Code Editing Capability
In a post on X (formerly known as Twitter) the official handle of OpenAI Developers announced the new feature. So far, getting coding assistance from ChatGPT’s macOS desktop app was tricky. While the AI could take context from the user’s existing codebase with the screenshot feature and generate changes to the code based on text prompts provided by the user, transferring the edited code was a cumbersome process.
This was because there was no automated workflow to transfer the code to the IDEs. As a result, users would have to manually copy and paste the code while ensuring only the changed portions get carried over, and no repeated lines are accidentally pasted. The manual nature of the task also made it prone to errors, fixing which would take additional time.
However, with the last week’s update, macOS users can now edit code and directly apply the changes to the user’s codebase. The functionality works with XCode, VS Code, and JetBrain, but it is unclear whether other development environments are supported.
Currently, this feature is being rolled out to ChatGPT Pro, Plus, and Team subscribers. The company stated that the Enterprise and Edu users will get it next week alongside those on the free tier of the chatbot.
Notably, this capability is being extended via OpenAI’s “work with apps” capability which was first released in November 2024 in beta. It is an agentic function that lets ChatGPT access certain apps on the device and perform tasks on behalf of the user. This functionality was already offered by existing AI platforms such as Cursor and GitHub Copilot.
In January, the AI firm expanded Canvas to ChatGPT for macOS. The sandbox-styled pop-up window allows users to work alongside the chatbot to make inline edits in projects involving coding or creative writing. OpenAI has also upgraded the feature with the support of the o1 AI model.

Greater tariff and trade clarity is what all CEOs always want
Greater tariff and trade clarity is what all CEOs always want
U.S. President Donald Trump speaks to reporters as White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt stands by him aboard Air Force One on his return to Washington, D.C., U.S., March 9, 2025.
Kevin Lamarque | Reuters
President Donald Trump has dismissed the growing chorus of CEOs, investors and policymakers who are pleading with the White House for greater clarity about his sweeping tariff agenda.
“They always say that. ‘We want clarity,'” Trump said in a Fox News interview that aired Sunday.
“They have plenty of clarity,” the president told “Sunday Morning Futures” host Maria Bartiromo.
Appeals to the White House from the business community to provide more concrete guidance, Trump said, are little more than talking points. “They just use that — like almost a sound bite.”
Pressed by Bartiromo on whether there would be “clarity for the business community,” Trump’s reply was telling.
“I think so, but you know, the tariffs could go up as time goes by, and they may go up, and you know, I don’t know if it’s predictability —”
Bartiromo interjected: “That’s not clarity.”
Hours after the full interview aired, the start of a new week of tariff-fueled fears and heightened economic uncertainty sent futures lower Sunday evening.
Stocks were set to tumble further when markets opened Monday. Futures tied to the Dow Jones Industrial Average were down nearly 500 points, or 1.2%, on Monday morning, while S&P 500 futures fell 1.4% and Nasdaq 100 futures dropped 1.6%.
The comments capped off a week marked by unpredictability about both Trump’s tariffs and the broader strength of the U.S. economy.
The S&P 500 fell 3.10%, for its worst weekly mark since September. The Dow fell 2.37%, while the Nasdaq Composite shed 3.45%.
At the center of the storm were Trump’s stiff 25% tariffs on imports from Canada and Mexico, which were initially paused for a month, then restarted Tuesday, only to be reined in Wednesday and then partially paused for another month on Thursday.
Meanwhile, Trump and multiple officials in his administration warned that Americans could be in store for some economic strain — including higher prices. But they insisted any adverse impacts would be temporary.
Confusion surrounding Trump’s constantly shifting trade plans has left investors uncertain about what’s coming next.
While Trump has downplayed the impact of his unpredictable trade policies on domestic markets, Wall Street analysts have not.
“We still have no clarity on the economy moving forward with the Trump turmoil,” wrote Byron Anderson, head of fixed income at Laffer Tengler Investments.
“The longer we have chaos and turmoil from Trump, the higher the probability that we will eventually have data trend negative,” he wrote in a Friday note.
The White House did not respond to a request for comment on Trump’s latest remarks about his tariffs, or about the widespread confusion surrounding his agenda.
The coming week promises plenty of new economic data to test the competing theories.
Due out Monday is the New York Fed survey of consumer expectations, followed by the Wednesday release of February’s consumer price index.
Thursday will see a fresh set of producer price data, before finishing the week with a University of Michigan consumer sentiment reading on Friday.
Now, as the Trump administration embarks on a monthlong reassessment of America’s trade relationships around the world, the negative impacts of uncertainty, felt over the past few weeks, could be magnified.
“Markets fear uncertainty more than they fear bad news,” wrote Mark Malek, chief investment officer at Siebert Financial. “25% tariffs are easier to price in than ‘maybe 10%, maybe more, maybe less.'”
It’s not just companies and investors who need greater clarity before they make major decisions.
The Federal Reserve does, too.
Chairman Jerome Powell on Friday said the central bank is “well positioned to wait for greater clarity” while the Trump administration implements “significant policy changes in four distinct areas: trade, immigration, fiscal policy, and regulation.”
Speaking at the U.S. Monetary Policy Forum, Powell said it would be “the net effect of these policy changes that will matter for the economy and for the path of monetary policy.”
For now, he said, “uncertainty around the changes and their likely effects remains high.”
The Fed, like so many others, is “focused on separating the signal from the noise as the outlook evolves,” he added.

Apple’s 10th-gen iPad drops to a near record-low price
Apple’s 10th-gen iPad drops to a near record-low price
Last week was a busy one filled with Apple announced news, with the company refreshing its Mac and iPad lineups. Now, we’re starting to see deals on some of the older models that will soon be discontinued. One of the best sales is on the 10th-gen iPad, which is down to $269 at Amazon for the blue and silver colorways. It briefly dropped to a record low of $260 at the end of last week, but now you’ll find the $269 price more readily.
The 10th-gen iPad arrived in late 2022. At least until we put the new model through its paces, this is our current pick for the best budget iPad — a recommendation that automatically becomes a little stronger whenever it gets this kind of discount.
Apple
With the 11th-gen iPad fast approaching, you can pick up the previous model for only $269.
$269 at Amazon
We gave this model a score of 85 in our review. We felt that the screen was somewhat lacking compared with those found in the likes of the iPad Air. However, we appreciated several updates such as the switch to a USB-C charging port and improved performance compared with the previous base iPad. Apple also moved the front-facing camera to the landscape edge, making video calls much more palatable when you’re using the tablet in that orientation.
If you just want an iPad to help you catch up on reading and email, control your smart home devices, watch videos and stream music, this is probably the one to go for. More resource-intensive tasks will require a more powerful tablet, but this one will handle the basics.
Meanwhile, if you’re interested in picking up the latest base iPad, you can pre-order one now. Amazon even has a small discount on the latest iPad, dropping it from $349 to $329. Apple has upgraded the chipset to an A16 and doubled the base storage to 128GB, but there’s no support for Apple Intelligence in the 11th-gen iPad.
Check out our coverage of the best Apple deals for more discounts, and follow @EngadgetDeals on X for the latest tech deals and buying advice.

What is Telnet? | Definition from TechTarget
What is Telnet? | Definition from TechTarget
Telnet is a network protocol used to remotely access a computer for a text-based communication channel between two machines.
Modern Telnet uses the TCP/IP networking protocol. Telnet can be used with File Transfer Protocol (FTP) to enable users to request specific files from remote computers. Users can log on as regular users with privileges, enabling them to access the specific applications and data on that computer.
The following is an abstract example of the syntax for a Telnet command request:
telnet the.libraryat.whatis.edu
This request would result in an invitation to log on with a user ID, and the program would prompt the user for a password. If the computer accepts the user, it grants them access to the remote host.
Telnet has largely been replaced by the more modern Secure Socket Shell (SSH) for accessing servers and computers. It can still be used for embedded or internet of things devices that run simple operating systems.
How Telnet works
Telnet is a client-server protocol that opens a command line or terminal on a remote computer, typically a server. Telnet works with a virtual terminal connection emulator, which is an abstract instance of a connection to a computer. It uses standard protocols to act like a physical terminal connected to a machine.
Telnet also sometimes uses FTP to help users send data files. Users connect remotely to a machine with Telnet, which is sometimes referred to as “Telnetting into the system.”
Telnet essentially sends plain text back and forth between the client and server. It uses American Standard Code for Information Interchange (ASCII) and other formatting commands like line return or clear screen.
Telnet enables text-based communication between computers.
Uses of Telnet
Telnet enables users to do anything on the remote computer that they can do with the command-line terminal. Historically, users could employ Telnet for various activities, such as editing files, running various programs and checking email. Some used Telnet to access public data, play games or look up weather reports. These features still exist for nostalgic fun or because they are compatible with older systems that need access to specific data.
In modern use, Telnet is primarily employed to connect to legacy devices or for a low-level connection to a text resource. Many low-power or simple devices employ Telnet because it is easy to implement. For example, a network-connected uninterruptible power supply or security camera might have a Telnet connection so that the administrator can configure it.
Another use of Telnet is to test other text-based network protocols. For example, Telnet can be used to send and receive text from a web server to troubleshoot issues at a low level. This use has been largely replaced by other tools such as cURL or network inspection.
Telnet security
Telnet is neither encrypted nor secure. Because Telnet is a plain text protocol, anyone on the network can access usernames, passwords and other private information typed during Telnet sessions. A threat actor could use this information to access a user’s device.
Telnet does not have any built-in authentication. Any person can connect to an open Telnet port and begin sending data to the system. It is imperative that the system has an additional user login function and is hardened against attacks.
SSH and related protocols
Some modern systems only enable command-line connections using SSH, which is an encrypted tool similar to Telnet, or through a virtual private network. Because of security concerns, many professional organizations require the use of secure options like SSH or PuTTY instead of Telnet. SSH is the most commonly used alternative, mainly because it encrypts all the traffic that passes over the communication channel.
Also, unlike newer protocols, Telnet doesn’t support graphical user interfaces (GUIs). This means Telnet isn’t compatible with many modern programs, such as spreadsheets, web browsers and word processors. Most users are far more comfortable using a GUI, so Remote Desktop Protocol is now the preferred method for remote working.
History of Telnet
Telnet is one of the oldest network protocols still in use today. The first version was developed in the late 1960s for the Advanced Research Projects Agency Network, or ARPANET, which preceded the modern internet.
Network professionals informally used Telnet for some time before researchers and IT professionals established the Telnet protocol, which was documented in published papers in 1973. The Telnet protocol was standardized as RFC 854 in 1983.
One of the first tools created to link computers remotely over long distances, Telnet was originally designed to connect a remote teletype in one office to a mainframe server in another location. A teletype is an automatic typewriter capable of sending and receiving text over a network, and its use predates modern monitors and GUIs.
Telnet originally operated over the Network Control Protocol, later known as Teletype Over Network Protocol. In its early forms, Telnet used ASCII, transmitted over an 8-bit channel, to enable basic text communication between remote computers. Over time, several extensions to the Telnet protocol were developed.
Networking enables the internet to function, relying on several key protocols. These common network protocols facilitate communication and connection across the internet. Learn about 15 common network protocols and their functions.

How to play Strands
Hint for today’s Strands puzzle
Today’s Strand answers
Strands is a brand new daily puzzle from the New York Times. A trickier take on the classic word search, you’ll need a keen eye to solve this puzzle.
Like Wordle, Connections, and the Mini Crossword, Strands can be a bit difficult to solve some days. There’s no shame in needing a little help from time to time. If you’re stuck and need to know the answers to today’s Strands puzzle, check out the solved puzzle below.
How to play Strands
You start every Strands puzzle with the goal of finding the “theme words” hidden in the grid of letters. Manipulate letters by dragging or tapping to craft words; double-tap the final letter to confirm. If you find the correct word, the letters will be highlighted blue and will no longer be selectable.
If you find a word that isn’t a theme word, it still helps! For every three non-theme words you find that are at least four letters long, you’ll get a hint — the letters of one of the theme words will be revealed and you’ll just have to unscramble it.
Every single letter on the grid is used to spell out the theme words and there is no overlap. Every letter will be used once, and only once.
Each puzzle contains one “spangram,” a special theme word (or words) that describe the puzzle’s theme and touches two opposite sides of the board. When you find the spangram, it will be highlighted yellow.
The goal should be to complete the puzzle quickly without using too many hints.
Hint for today’s Strands puzzle

Matt Dawson column: ‘England had Italy on the ropes but didn’t recreate French demolition job’
Matt Dawson column: ‘England had Italy on the ropes but didn’t recreate French demolition job’
In his BBC Sport column, World Cup winner Matt Dawson reflects on England’s thumping Six Nations victory over Italy, and assesses the final day title race.
This England team haven’t had much practice of being in the position of dominance they had over Italy.
They scored 47 points with seven very good tries and showed some great attacking ‘intent’, a word they used a lot in the post-match interviews.
The victory will be a good experience for the players, and for 60 minutes they can be very pleased with themselves.
But some of them may be reflecting on the last 20 and know they could have done a bit more.
I found myself getting frustrated when I was commentating. I don’t know whether that is because my expectations of this England side are so high because of the talent in the squad, but we didn’t do it for longer periods of time.
We scored a brilliant first try and then had a lapse of concentration and Italy score back. We score another try and then they hit back again.
It felt like England always had Italy at arms length and it wasn’t ‘are England going to win this?’ It was by how many?
But then my expectation was of more accuracy and discipline in how England were going to play. Dotted in amongst all of that there were some brilliant moments.
I think there was more cohesion in a backline, which included five Northampton Saints players. I loved the first five minutes where Ollie Lawrence and Elliot Daly synced into the Saints way really well.
Daly set the tone at full-back and you could feel the way they were trying to play and Italy were not going to survive.
The changes they had to make because of Lawrence’s injury took the wind our their sails a bit. They regrouped at half time and had a good 10 minutes to put the game away, but then they just sort of, shut up shop.
Twickenham felt a bit flat and I think that was reflected in how England played in the last 20 minutes. I remember Ollie Chessum making a break from a line-out and then we slow it down and go to the box kick.
Four phases of that intensity and England stroll in somewhere for another try, like they did in the first half and like the top teams do. It was a feeling of, we have done enough to win the game, lets lock it up and not give anything away.
They had an Italy side on the ropes, lacking in motivation after their pumping by France, before giving the likes of Juan Ignacio Brex, Tommaso Menoncello and some proud Italian players a bit of life to not make it difficult, but a bit awkward.
England had an opportunity to grab them by the scruff of the neck and make it all about them.
You can see what that type of total dominance against Italy did for France in their build-up to facing Ireland. What it fixed for France by having on an absolute demolition mode in Rome was going to a tough away game in Dublin full of confidence.
If England had absolutely demolished Italy, you are then potentially going to Wales with a slightly different mindset.
It was a good win, but you could dissect what England were trying to do into 20-25 minutes of the second-half at Allianz Stadium. It is just a very subtle difference, but I still truly believe this England squad have the personnel to win trophies and to be able to do that they have tor recognise scenarios of dominance.
The likes of Ellis Genge might whinge and moan about former pros not understanding what it takes, but unfortunately they do because they have been successful in the past and won trophies.
They haven’t always been successful, they have had tough times as well but they learnt from them and found ways of winning games in different ways, so when it comes to a scenario, they have got that recall to a previous experience and can get themselves out if it.

Pokémon TCG Pocket’s latest Wonder Pick event features Manaphy and Snorlax
Pokémon TCG Pocket’s latest Wonder Pick event features Manaphy and Snorlax
Pokémon TCG Pocket’s latest Wonder Pick event is here, with Snorlax and Manaphy being featured
Make use of the Chansey pick feature and keep an eye out for two special promo cards with these ‘mon
Keep an eye out for promo picks and other special rewards!
Well, it’s Monday, but if you’re feeling a bit low maybe you can pick up Pokémon TCG Pocket and get a little boost to your deck if nothing else? Yes, a new Wonder Pick event is underway, and this time the fan-favourite Pokémon making an appearance is Manaphy and the sleep-loving Snorlax.
Wonder Pick, which nets you a chance of nabbing a card from packs your friends have opened, also features Bonus Picks that won’t cost you any of the Wonder Stamina resources. So keep an eye out for those, all marked by the icon of the Pokémon Chansey.
Meanwhile, if you’re looking for even more rewards in this event keep an eye out for event missions (including doing Wonder Picks) where you can earn event shop tickets. These can be traded for nifty new stuff, with this latest event including Manaphy & Piplup-themed backdrops and covers, while a new Futuristic Device backdrop is also available.
Wondrous
I always find the Wonder Pick mechanic a little difficult to wrap my head around. But I think the lack of complaints compared to the hotly-anticipated but lukewarm-on-reception trading mechanic says a lot about it. At the end of the day, it’s a neat if not exactly reliable way to get new cards, and it seems as if the folks at TCG Pocket are trying to further incentivise it by adding event shop tickets as a reward.
Keep an eye out too, because there’s reportedly a second part of this event coming soon where event tickets can be used. So save them up if you’re able to!
In the meantime, if you’re finding getting far in Pokémon TCG Pocket to be a hassle, why not have a go with some of our suggested starter decks? Learn the ropes and get a decent comp before you head into your matches!

First Modular Quantum Computer Works at Room Temperature Without Cooling
First Modular Quantum Computer Works at Room Temperature Without Cooling
Scientists have successfully developed a quantum computer capable of operating at room temperature, marking a significant step towards scalable and networked quantum computing. The system, named Aurora, is designed to function using interconnected modules, eliminating the need for extreme cooling, which has been a major hurdle in quantum computing. The technology leverages photonic qubits, which use light instead of traditional superconducting qubits that require near absolute zero temperatures. This advancement could pave the way for large-scale quantum data centers and more reliable error correction mechanisms, as reported by various sources.
Findings of the Study
According to the study published in Nature, Aurora, created by Xanadu, is the first photonic quantum computer built to operate at scale using multiple processors linked through fiber optic cables. This structure enables enhanced fault tolerance and error correction, key challenges in quantum computing.
As reported by Live Science, Christian Weedbrook, founder and CEO of Xanadu, the focus is on improving error correction and scalability. He stated in a press release that overcoming these obstacles is essential for practical quantum computing.
Traditional quantum computers rely on superconducting qubits, which generate heat when processing data. This requires complex cooling systems, increasing operational costs and limiting accessibility. The study highlights that by using photonic qubits instead, Aurora can be integrated with existing fiber optic networks, offering a more scalable and energy-efficient alternative.
Industry Experts Weigh In
Darran Milne, a quantum information theory expert and CEO of VividQ, commented on the development, stating that breaking quantum computers into smaller, interconnected units may improve error correction. He noted that while this modular approach could simplify computing, it has been seen whether it will effectively reduce errors or introduce new challenges.
The system utilises 35 photonic chips connected through 13 kilometers of fiber optic cables, leveraging Xanadu’s existing technologies such as the X8 quantum processor and Borealis quantum computer.
Future Prospects and Challenges
Potential applications for Aurora include simulating molecular structures for drug development and enhancing secure communication through quantum cryptography. Scientists at Xanadu are now focusing on minimizing optical signal loss in fiber optic connections to further refine the technology.

Broadband Forum launches three open broadband projects
Broadband Forum launches three open broadband projects
As it continues its stated mission of bringing the full promise of broadband to fruition, the Broadband Forum has unveiled three projects to deliver an improved user experience, including reduced latency, and a wider choice of in-home applications to broadband consumers.
The Broadband Forum’s Open Broadband initiative is designed to bring open source and open standards together, and the three projects will endeavour to provide open source software blueprints for application providers and broadband service providers (BSPs) to follow, delivering a foundation for artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML) for network automation, additional tools for network latency and performance measurements, and on-demand connectivity for different applications.
The projects will deliver open-source reference implementations acting act as a starting point for application developers to base their designs on. In turn, those applications are available on platforms for BSPs to select and offer to their customers, overall, shortening the path between the development of the specification to the first deployment of the technologies into the network.
Specifically, the new Open Broadband-CloudCO-Application Software Development Kit (OB-CAS), Open Broadband – Simple Two-Way Active Measurement Protocol (OB-Stamp), and Open Broadband – Subscriber Session Steering (OB-Steer) projects are looking to bring together software developers and standards experts from the forum.
OB-CAS aims to simplify network monitoring and maintenance for BSPs, while also offering a wider selection of applications from various software suppliers. Alongside this, network operations will be simplified and automated through existing Broadband Forum cloud standards that use AI and ML to improve the end-user experience.
OB-Stampwill look to build an “easy-to-deploy” component that simplifies network performance measurement between customer premises equipment and IP edge. The project will allow BSPs to proactively monitor their subscribers’ home networks to measure latency and ultimately avoid network failures. Four vendors have already signed up to join the efforts to reduce the cost and time associated with deploying infrastructure for measuring network latency.
Building on Broadband Forum’s upcoming technical report WT-474, OB-Steer will create a reference implementation of the Subscriber Session Steering architecture to deliver on-demand connectivity and simplify network management. Interoperability of Subscriber Session Steering is regarded as being of high importance as it will be implemented in the access network equipment and edge equipment from various vendors.
Commenting on the developments, Broadband Forum technical chair Lincoln Lavoie said: “These new projects will play a key role in improving network performance measurement and monitoring and the end-user experience. Open source software is a crucial component in providing the blueprint for BSPs to follow and we invite interested companies to get involved.”
Broadband Forum CEO Craig Thomas added: “The development of open source software and open broadband standards are invaluable to the industry, laying the foundations for faster innovation through global collaboration. The Broadband Forum places the end-user experience at the forefront of all of our projects and is playing a crucial role in overcoming network issues.”
The new projects come on the heels of the Broadband Forum embarking in late 2024 on a project to support fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) service providers in their pursuit of more energy-efficient networks that can unlock significant power savings as providers look to meet rising demand for high-speed connectivity.

How to grab these stylish glasses?
What are they good for?
Meta delivered an unexpected runaway success with its Ray-Ban Stories smart glasses, and now, it is headed to the runaway for the latest take. At the Paris Fashion week, the company lifted the covers from the Ray-Ban Meta x Coperni Limited Edition Glasses.
Revealed as part of Coperni’s Fall Winter 25 collection, these are the company’s “first-ever fashion-branded collaboration.” The collaboration product borrows Ray-Ban’s iconic Wayfarer look and gives it a translucent twist atop a ******-grey framework.
Taking inspiration from its limited-run transparent editions that were introduced last year, the Coperni version also goes for a translucent look with the frame, marrying them with grey mirrored lenses. And for that final branded touch, there’s a prominent Coperni logo on the arm.
How to grab these stylish glasses?
Meta
If you like the look on these new smart glasses, you’ll need some luck and a deeper pocket. Only 3,600 units of the Ray-Ban Meta x Coperni Limited Edition smart glasses will be put on the shelves, starting Monday.
Moreover, they cost more than the regular Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses, which start at $299 in the US. For the Coperni edition, you’ll have to part ways with $549 for each pair. Sales kick off at 1AM (PDT) / 9AM (CET) on Monday via Meta, Ray-Ban, and Coperni’s online stores.
What are they good for?
Aside from their stylish looks, the biggest draw of these glasses is an upgraded 12-megapixel sensor that can capture pictures at 3024 x 4032 pixels resolution, while videos are recorded at 1440 x 1920 pixels resolution with 30fps frame rate.
The onboard 32GB storage can save over 500 photos and roughly a hundred 30-second clips, while the battery is touted to last roughly four hours per charge. These glasses can also be used for video calling as well as live-streaming.
Meta
The most underrated aspect of these smart glasses, however, is the onboard Meta AI. Users can ask it to scan QR codes in the camera’s field of view, translate text, recognize objects and music (via Shazam), offer historical details about monuments, note down information for a future recall, and more.
With a natural language voice command, these glasses can also find and play content from Spotify and Amazon Music via the onboard speakers. There’s also a live translation feature, alongside a real-time translation system for four languages viz. English, French, Italian, and Spanish.
The Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses are targeted at social media posting and getting the best out of Meta AI on a less compute-intensive platform. The company is also working on the Orion smart glasses with a holographic display and the Aria Gen 2 glasses with capabilities like heart rate sensing for research-related work.

Battlefield 6 Factions—Everything we Know About Battlefield 2025 Factions
Battlefield 6 Factions—Everything we Know About Battlefield 2025 Factions
Battlefield’s Factions determine which regions fight each other in matches. The concept has been around for decades, and Battlefield 6, which may release in 2025, will again feature waging Factions.
Battlefield 6 could be pivotal for both EA and the storied shooter franchise. Recent Battlefield games haven’t fared too well. Battlefield 1 was solid, whereas Battlefield 5 focused too much on what fans didn’t ask for. On the other hand, Battlefield 2042 was the series’ comparison to jumping the shark.
2025 aims to bring Battlefield 6 and make it one of the best. The Battlefield Labs Factions have been the topic of conversation, so let’s dig into the latest details.
Battlefield 6 Factions Confirmed so far
Who will you fight? Credit to EA
Battlefield 6’s 2025 pre-Alpha footage has shown NATO and what looks to be a PMC outfit called Pax Armata as the main opposing Factions.
There are a few things to consider with Battlefield 6’s Factions so far. Firstly, this is a pre-Alpha, and it’s likely EA is using a ton of placeholders and unofficial names for now. The focus is on the gameplay, network connectivity, and overall game stability.
Given recent criticism of the franchise, it’s understandable if the multiple developers aren’t as bothered about the names of the game’s Factions for now. Secondly, don’t be surprised if EA does end up sticking with more generic Factions such as NATO and either an unnamed PMC (Private Military Company), or the generic use of “PMC” instead.
Real-life global tensions mean these decisions can’t be taken lightly. Battlefield 2042 did use “Russian Army,” “United States Marine Corps,” and “British Army,” but times change. So don’t be surprised to see Battlefield 6 adopt safe Faction names.
Even if Battlefield runs with NATO, you likely won’t be stuck with the same few default selections. A Reddit post has identified a Union Flag on a soldier’s uniform using the Battlefield 6 leaks. This means there’s potential wiggle room for customization options. The OP for the post said: “I’m hoping Dice is brave and gives us some clear depictions of Russian, ******** & Iranian uniforms for the opfor Faction.”
Again, real-world scenarios and events have a bearing on how Battlefield 6’s final content looks. We’ll have to see how close EA and DICE push the boundaries.
We’re still not 100% sure when Battlefield 6 is set to launch, but EA has claimed it will be before April 2026. We’re still not ruling out a 2025 launch either.
What do you think of Battlefield Labs so far? Does the game look promising? Are we finally due a brilliant Battlefield game?

Nvidia’s upcoming budget GPUs could be underwhelming for gamers
Nvidia’s upcoming budget GPUs could be underwhelming for gamers
Nvidia has yet to confirm the existence of entry-level GPUs in its latest RTX 50 series. However, recent leaks have revealed the anticipated specifications of the upcoming RTX 5050, 5060, and 5060 Ti. These GPUs are expected to be officially announced soon, as reports from last week indicated that Nvidia plans to unveil additional RTX 50 series models within the next 10 days.
As for the leaked specifications, @kopite7kimi, a fairly accurate leaker, has shared important information about the upcoming GPUs. As per his posts on X, Nvidia’s RTX 5060 and RTX 5060 Ti will utilize the GB206-300 GPU die, while the RTX 5050 will be built around the GB207-300 chip. The RTX 5060 Ti, positioned as the more powerful of the two 60-class cards, is expected to feature 4,608 CUDA cores—just a modest 5.7% increase over its predecessor, the RTX 4060 Ti.

— kopite7kimi (@kopite7kimi) March 10, 2025
The RTX 5060 itself will be available in a single 8GB GDDR7 variant, maintaining the same 128-bit memory bus. It will feature 3,840 CUDA cores—a notable 22.22% increase over the RTX 4060. With a 150W TDP, this GPU is expected to be a solid choice for small form factor PC builds.
GeForce RTX 5050 PG152-SKU50 GB207-300-A1 2560FP32 128-bit GDDR6 8G 130W
— kopite7kimi (@kopite7kimi) March 9, 2025
As for the RTX 5050, this marks the return of Nvidia’s 50-class GPU lineup, last seen with the RTX 3050. While the RTX 5060 and 5060 Ti will benefit from a 128-bit memory interface with a bandwidth of 448 GB/s—roughly 55% higher than the RTX 4060 Ti—the RTX 5050 will remain on GDDR6 memory. It is expected to use the PG152-SKU10/15 board with a GB206-300-A1 GPU die, offering 2,560 CUDA cores and a TDP of 130W.
The RTX 50 series, including the RTX 5090, 5080, 5070 Ti, and 5070, is off to a sluggish start, primarily due to limited availability and inflated pricing. Concerns have also arisen regarding the flagship RTX 5090’s incompatibility with older 12VHPWR power connectors, which has led to reports of cable and adapter melting under high power loads. Additionally, Nvidia is facing issues with certain RTX 50 graphics cards having missing ROPs (Render Output Units), resulting in a reduction in overall performance.

If you’re considering a Sky Blue MacBook Air, you might want to act quickly
If you’re considering a Sky Blue MacBook Air, you might want to act quickly
Apple has announced two iPad models, the Mac Studio, and the MacBook Air so far this year, and out of all of these products, the Sky Blue MacBook Air is expected to sell the most. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman says Apple is expecting high demand for all the latest devices but the new color option for the budget MacBook is expected to be particularly hot.
Thoughts on Apple’s new iPads, MacBook Air, Mac Studio and M3 Ultra. Retail sources say Apple is expecting significant demand based on strong unit numbers being delivered ahead of launch. The Sky Blue MacBook Air, in particularly is expected to be hot.
— Mark Gurman (@markgurman) March 9, 2025
It’s often the case that some colors are more popular than others when it comes to MacBooks. If you’re buying from a retailer, this means they could sell out much faster, and if you’re buying directly from Apple, it can increase the wait time significantly. When I bought my Starlight M2 MacBook Air in 2022, it had an extra three weeks tacked onto its delivery time compared to the other colors.
So, if you’re thinking about going for the Sky Blue, it could be a good idea to get in there quickly. With the new lower price and the minimum 16GB of RAM, the M4 MacBook Air is looking to be great value for money. Benchmarks are starting to pop up on Geekbench too, and the numbers are just as good as you’d expect. With a single-core score of 3680, a multi-core score of 14924, and a Metal GPU score of 54,864, it’s only slightly behind its actively-cooled sibling, the M4 MacBook Pro.
The biggest drawback is that if you’re aiming for the $999 price tag, you’ll only get 256GB of storage, which can disappear very fast nowadays. If you’re into photography or filming videos, for example, 256GB will not be enough and you’ll have to decide between upgrading or using external storage. If you get used to keeping your external storage with you and plugging it in when you need it, this option can be much more affordable — Apple really puts a premium on storage.
It could take some time to decide the best configuration for you, so make sure to keep an eye on the stock and the delivery estimates so you can stay ahead of any shortages.
