Consumer credit rose to $5 trillion in January, Fed reports Consumer credit rose to $5 trillion in January, Fed reports Total outstanding consumer debt stood at $5 trillion as of January, according to the Federal Reserve’s G.19 consumer credit report released on Friday. That is up slightly from a month earlier but down 0.6% compared to a year ago. Revolving debt, which mostly includes credit card balances, jumped 8.2% year over year, while nonrevolving debt, such as auto loans and student loans, rose 3%. “Some small cracks are starting to emerge,” said Ted Rossman, senior industry analyst at Bankrate. Overall, “consumers are still spending, of course,” Rossman said. However, “sentiment has been depressed — and has taken another few steps down in recent weeks due to tariff worries,” he added. More from Personal Finance: Americans are suffering from ‘sticker shock’ Canada, Mexico tariffs create ‘ripple effects’ on consumer prices As tariffs ramp up, this investment can protect against inflation The G.19 report shows “significant-but-not-crazy growth in revolving credit, and moderate growth in nonrevolving and overall credit,” according to Matt Schulz, chief credit analyst at LendingTree. But economists say Trump’s tariffs on imports from China, Mexico and Canada are bound to raise prices for consumers, which is fueling concern among households. One recent consumer survey found that 86% of Americans said trade tensions are likely to hit their wallets and another 22% have also started stockpiling certain items, regardless of whether they can afford it. In the last year, credit card debt rose to a record $1.21 trillion, with 34% of credit card borrowers saying they expect to take on more debt this year, according to a separate poll of 2,000 adults in February by CreditCards.com. How to get a handle on credit card debt Credit cards are also one of the most expensive ways to borrow money. The average credit card currently charges more than 20%, near an all-time high. “If you have credit card debt — and about half of cardholders do — my best advice is to sign up for a balance transfer card with a lengthy 0% promotion,” Rossman said. Cards offering 12, 15 or even 21 months with no interest on transferred balances are one of the best weapons Americans have in the battle against credit card debt, experts often say. Working with a reputable nonprofit credit counseling agency is another solid option, Rossman added. Subscribe to CNBC on YouTube. Match of the Day: BBC chairman says show should include fewer highlights Match of the Day: BBC chairman says show should include fewer highlights Match of the Day should show fewer Premier League highlights and more analysis, says BBC chairman Samir Shah. The BBC has a deal to show highlights of top-flight matches until the end of the 2028-29 season, with Match of the Day broadcast on Saturday evenings and MOTD2 on Sunday evenings. Shah told the Sunday Times, external that many fans had watched Premier League goals and action before Match of the Day is broadcast. Shah said the show “should not be built around highlights”. He added: “It should be built around analysis and examination of the match to give viewers a deeper insight.” Although the BBC is politically independent, its chairperson is appointed by the government. In his role as chair of the BBC’s board Shah is charge of upholding and protecting the BBC’s independence and ensuring the BBC fulfils its mission to inform, educate and entertain. 2025 NFL Mock Draft: Jets land Shedeur Sanders, shake up first three rounds 2025 NFL Mock Draft: Jets land Shedeur Sanders, shake up first three rounds We’re only now heading into NFL free agency, but it’s already been a wild offseason — trades, coaching changes and big-money contract extensions have been happening at every turn. How will all of the movement affect the 2025 NFL Draft? As the legal tampering window opens, here’s a look at how the first three rounds could unfold: 1. Tennessee Titans: Abdul Carter, Edge, Penn State Cam Ward is the best QB prospect in this draft. That doesn’t mean he’s a no-doubter, though, and if you’re going to make this pick — when you’re as bad as the Titans were last season — you need bust-proof. The only thing teams have to monitor with Carter is the Penn State star’s injury situation, but nothing there appears to be a long-term concern. If the Titans can swing a trade, great. There’s no guarantee another team will want to come up in this draft, though. GO DEEPER Giants NFL mock draft mailbag: Trade up for Cam Ward? If the price is right … 2. Cleveland Browns: Cam Ward, QB, Miami We’ve heard enough smoke out of Cleveland to know the Browns are interested in taking a quarterback early this year, whether they should be or not. I wouldn’t do this, as Cleveland has an opportunity to improve the rest of its team before appointing a new savior (not to mention the Deshaun Watson situation is still unresolved). But I’m not Jimmy Haslam. 3. New York Giants: Travis Hunter, CB/WR, Colorado If cooler heads prevail and the Giants do something reasonable like sign a bridge backup while drafting a QB later, that’d feel like a win for both New York’s present and future — no matter who’s running the show long-term. Hunter immediately would improve whichever room he touches. 4. New England Patriots: Will Campbell, OT, LSU As was the case with Rashawn Slater a few years ago, the conversation surrounding Campbell’s short arm length is notable. It also might not be that big a deal, because the more you speak to Campbell and watch him play or work out, the more you see a long-term NFL starter — be it at tackle, guard or some combination of both. 5. Jacksonville Jaguars: Armand Membou, OT, Missouri One of the biggest risers in the country, regardless of position, Membou has had his arrow pointed firmly upward since fall. There is rawness to his game compared to a player like Campbell, but he’s hardly a project. The 20-year-old Membou has the combination of size, power and athleticism to be an impact player immediately. 6. Las Vegas Raiders: Mason Graham, DT, Michigan The best defensive lineman in this class by a bit, Graham also feels like one of the draft’s safest prospects. He’d fill a massive need for the Raiders, while giving them a potential new star in the process. If you read between the lines, the Raiders’ trade for Geno Smith says everything you’d ever want to know about Shedeur Sanders’ draft stock. 7. New York Jets: Tetairoa McMillan, WR, Arizona Maybe it’s East Coast bias or that he didn’t do anything at the combine, but it feels like nobody’s really talking about McMillan — and that’s a mistake. There are stretches on his Arizona tape when he almost looks bored, and he still made nearly 200 combined catches over the last two seasons. He is a gigantic athlete with hops for days. 8. Carolina Panthers: Shemar Stewart, Edge, Texas A&M One of the top performers at the combine, nearly everything about Stewart’s athletic profile is elite — length, speed, burst and enough bend to deal with just about anything a pass rusher can encounter. The traits are more impressive than his production, but he also played in a crowded room. GO DEEPER Which 2025 NFL Draft prospects made (or lost) money at the combine? 9. New Orleans Saints: Tyler Warren, TE, Penn State One of the top physical specimens in this class, Warren has the ability to power through a linebacker as a run blocker or a ball carrier. His hand strength is off the charts, as is his ability to win in the air and adjust his 6-foot-5, 256-pound frame. To quote Boobie Miles’ uncle, L.V.: “And he can pass.” 10. Chicago Bears: Ashton Jeanty, RB, Boise State Ben Johnson was pretty clear that the offense he’ll run in Chicago won’t be the same as what he ran in Detroit. However, he’s still a member of the Dan Campbell coaching tree, and the Bears already added pieces at guard on Johnson’s watch. The first-time head coach knows Chicago’s offense won’t go anywhere until he builds Caleb Williams a real run game. This is step one — and Jeanty’s worth it. 11. San Francisco 49ers: Jalon Walker, LB/Edge, Georgia Offensive line is a possibility for the 49ers, as is a more traditional edge. But this defense needs playmakers, and Walker is a unique weapon — he can do the job in the box or on the line of scrimmage. As San Francisco attempts to reshape itself on the fly, a dynamic talent like Walker could be a future star. 12. Dallas Cowboys: Mykel Williams, Edge, Georgia Don’t rule out a trade-up by Dallas, and there could be a few players in play, including Jeanty or even Mason Graham. Same time, the Cowboys are in good position to stand pat and find quality help on either front. On traits alone, Williams is a top-five player in this class. 13. Miami Dolphins: Tyler Booker, G, Alabama If Miami can’t figure out how to keep its quarterback on his feet and run the football without a gimmick, then the Mike McDaniel experiment is going to go the way of the Chargers-Brandon Staley split. There’s brilliance in the way Miami runs its offense, but the Dolphins have to get tougher if McDaniel is going to take the next step. Booker is a potential culture changer in the run game. Did Alabama lineman Tyler Booker deliver the quote of the combine? [image or embed] — The Athletic (@theathletic.bsky.social) March 1, 2025 at 2:47 PM 14. Indianapolis Colts: Colston Loveland, TE, Michigan Loveland’s shoulder injury is not expected to be a long-term issue. If he’s healthy, Loveland is the best route-running TE in this draft class. And though he provides a bit less pop than Warren as a blocker, he learned how to play that role effectively in a Jim Harbaugh offense. Loveland is a tough, productive, high-floor football player. 15. Atlanta Falcons: Will Johnson, CB, Michigan We’ll see how big a slide Johnson takes. He’s pretty clearly the best cornerback in this class not named Travis Hunter, but he didn’t do much of anything as a junior in 2024. He flashed moments of greatness on his sophomore tape, though, and still finished his college career as the best Michigan cornerback since Charles Woodson. 16. Arizona Cardinals: Kelvin Banks Jr., OT, Texas The Cardinals have done an outstanding job maximizing their draft capital over Monti Ossenfort’s first two drafts. Now, it’s time for the next step. Edge could be a priority at 16, along with offensive tackle or guard — Banks can play either of those O-line spots. 17. Cincinnati Bengals: Jihaad Campbell, LB, Alabama Defensive coordinators who aren’t thinking outside the box with players such as Walker and Campbell do so at their own peril. Campbell is still a bit raw, but at 6-3 and nearly 240, he’s the type of defender that’s the future of pass rushers — and that future is now. Having a Micah Parsons-like wild card in your front seven can open up so much. 18. Seattle Seahawks: Nick Emmanwori, S, South Carolina Despite his position, this might be Emmanwori’s floor. His athleticism, at 6-3, 220, is actually off the charts (he currently has the highest Relative Athletic Score score ever for a safety), and he just turned 21 a month ago. Emmanwori is a true hybrid defender with limitless potential — the exact type of prospect about which Mike Macdonald dreams. Let Nick Emmanwori cook. 11’6” broad jump in addition to his 43” vert! : #NFLCombine on @NFLNetwork : Stream on @NFLPlus pic.twitter.com/w8ff6cmx0p — NFL (@NFL) February 28, 2025 19. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Donovan Ezeiruaku, Edge, Boston College Ezeiruaku is the type of player who climbs your draft board every single time you watch one of his games. He plays with great effort and a deep, polished set of pass-rush moves. Ezeiruaku lives for the little details that turn pressures into sacks, and he had a terrific combine as the only defensive lineman to run a three-cone of under seven seconds (6.94). 20. Denver Broncos: Omarion Hampton, RB, North Carolina Alvin Kamara was easily one of my favorite players (and probably yours, too) during Sean Payton’s run in New Orleans. Payton’s ability to make things happen for a quick, tough runner with IQ and feel in space is art. A complete three-down back like Hampton could unlock everything the Broncos and Bo Nix are trying to accomplish. 21. Pittsburgh Steelers: Jahdae Barron, CB, Texas Yes, the Steelers need to draft a quarterback. But the Steelers need help in the secondary, and Barron, who surprised many with his speed and burst numbers at the combine, was an absolute ballhawk at Texas. He’s one of the smartest defenders in this class. 22. Los Angeles Chargers: Grey Zabel, G/C, North Dakota State If Jim Harbaugh has said it once, he’s said it a hundred times: Offensive linemen are offensive weapons. The decision to select Joe Alt early last year paid immediate dividends, and though the Chargers could justify a few other spots here, “Harbaugh ball” goes nowhere without a great front. Zabel is a true five-position prospect along the line. Zero surprise teams voted NDSU OL Grey Zabel as the top practice player at the Senior Bowl Was outstanding all week long in every situation. College tackle with guard/center capability. Stock firmly up. Getting a two-for-one here [image or embed] — Nick Baumgardner (@nickbaumgardner.bsky.social) February 1, 2025 at 9:36 AM 23. Green Bay Packers: Matthew Golden, WR, Texas Golden didn’t come out of nowhere this year — it only felt like it. Texas’ skill-position core under Steve Sarkisian has been absurdly loaded the last few seasons, and it was Golden’s turn to break out in 2024. His 4.29 40 at the combine backed up what his tape shows, in terms of speed and explosion. 24. Minnesota Vikings: Josh Simmons, OT, Ohio State Had Simmons (and, for that matter, center Seth McLaughlin) been healthy all year, Ohio State wouldn’t have lost a game. Simmons also would be all but locked in as a top-10 pick. A lot now depends on his medicals, but this would be an absolute steal. Don’t be surprised to see someone trade up for him. 25. Houston Texans: Donovan Jackson, G/OT, Ohio State One man’s loss is another’s gain. When Simmons went down, Ohio State turned to Jackson — a multiyear starter at guard — to kick out to tackle, and the results were very good. Jackson, like Banks, could line up inside or outside, depending on what the team drafting him needs. 26. Los Angeles Rams: Mason Taylor, TE, LSU Taylor, the son of Dolphins legend Jason Taylor and nephew of Zach Thomas, is extremely fluid in space with a good frame and consistent hands. His spatial awareness and dependability are outstanding. If the Rams keep adding pieces like this — not to mention newly signed Davante Adams — Matthew Stafford may never retire. Mason Taylor, son of HOFer @JasonTaylor, ran a picturesque gauntlet drill : #NFLCombine on @NFLNetwork : Stream on @NFLPlus pic.twitter.com/U7wrIBpMFH — NFL (@NFL) March 1, 2025 27. Baltimore Ravens: Josh Conerly Jr., OT, Oregon On potential alone, Conerly is a top-20 prospect (maybe higher) in this class. He’s big, long, explosive, quick and has powerful hands with an ability to recover. His game can still look sloppy at times, but his flashes in both the run and pass game are outstanding. 28. New York Jets (projected trade with DET): Shedeur Sanders, QB, Colorado (Jets trade Nos. 42 and 73 plus a 2026 mid-rounder to Detroit for No. 28) It’s absolutely possible Sanders falls into the second round — his situation feels incredibly similar to what we saw with Will Levis back in 2023. Teams did not see Levis as a top-15 player, and most didn’t see him as a first-rounder. It only takes one team, of course. Sanders is likely this draft’s best QB after Cam Ward, although the gap between the two is wider than many thought it’d be when the season ended. This scenario, with a team jumping back into the end of Round 1, could be how it plays out. 29. Washington Commanders: Mike Green, Edge, Marshall Every team will have to do serious homework on Green’s past, as he’s been accused of ******* assault twice (once in high school, once at Virginia) — he denied and addressed those allegations during the combine. If a front office is comfortable with him, he’s a top-15 talent. 30. Buffalo Bills: Malaki Starks, S, Georgia Teams can be afraid of Starks’ 4.5 40, the fact he’s more of a safety than a corner or his disappointing agility times. But this was the exact conversation many GMs overthought with Brian Branch, whose athletic profile is insanely similar to that of Starks. The 2024 season wasn’t Starks’ best, but his blend of ball skills and IQ could turn him into one of this draft’s steals. 31. Kansas City Chiefs: Emeka Egbuka, WR, Ohio State The most QB-friendly receiver in this draft, Egbuka is this year’s version of Ladd McConkey or Amon-Ra St. Brown — super dependable with elite spatial awareness and a consistent habit of getting open in critical situations. The Chiefs could go a few ways here, but giving Patrick Mahomes a guy like Egbuka on the outside could be a cheat code. 32. Philadelphia Eagles: Derrick Harmon, DT, Oregon The only question surrounding Harmon’s game is whether one year as a full-time contributor is enough to project his future. That year, 2024, was pretty impressive — Harmon flashed the ability to play at least three spots along the defensive front, then put together one of the best combines for an interior defender. Round 2 33. Cleveland Browns: TreVeyon Henderson, RB, Ohio State 34. New York Giants: Jaxson Dart, QB, Ole Miss This feels like a much smarter use of resources for the Giants. Even if they have to jump back into the bottom of Round 1 for a QB, it’d be less of a risk than taking a shot at No. 2. 35. Tennessee Titans: Tyler Shough, QB, Louisville The Titans also do not have to do anything rash at quarterback, because they still could be in position to grab one of the top mid-round options in this draft. Dart and Shough have big arms and have seen a lot of football. 36. Jacksonville Jaguars: Shavon Revel Jr., CB, East Carolina GO DEEPER Why one of the NFL Draft’s top prospects is also its most resilient 37. Las Vegas Raiders: Maxwell Hairston, CB, Kentucky 38. New England Patriots: Luther Burden III, WR, Missouri 39. Chicago Bears (from CAR): Kenneth Grant, DT, Michigan Grant is no longer a guaranteed first-rounder, but he’s still pretty close. Despite Grant skipping the Shrine Bowl and combine testing, his athletic flashes on tape (at 330-plus pounds) are ridiculous. 40. New Orleans Saints: Nic Scourton, Edge, Texas A&M 41. Chicago Bears: Aireontae Ersery, OT, Minnesota 42. Detroit Lions (projected trade with NYJ): Tyleik Williams, DT, Ohio State Detroit is in a pretty great situation, no matter what happens this draft. The Lions could wait for premium talent to fall to them at No. 28 or take advantage of any lingering QB desperation by moving back and allowing Brad Holmes to do his thing. 43. San Francisco 49ers: Cameron Williams, OT, Texas 44. Dallas Cowboys: Quinshon Judkins, RB, Ohio State 45. Indianapolis Colts: Jonah Savaiinaea, G, Arizona 46. Atlanta Falcons: Walter Nolen, DT, Ole Miss GO DEEPER NFL free-agency rankings: Which teams and players deliver the best value? 47. Arizona Cardinals: Benjamin Morrison, CB, Notre Dame 48. Miami Dolphins: Kevin Winston Jr., S, Penn State 49. Cincinnati Bengals: Darius Alexander, DT, Toledo 50. Seattle Seahawks: Marcus Mbow, OT, Purdue 51. Denver Broncos: Terrance Ferguson, TE, Oregon 52. Seattle Seahawks (from PIT): Jalen Milroe, QB, Alabama Milroe is going to need time, perhaps at least a full season of learning how to be an NFL quarterback. Though his athleticism alone could make him QB3 in this draft, Dart and Shough are firmly in front of him as far as being ready to contribute. The Seahawks are starting over at QB and could use a young, developmental backup. GO DEEPER Steelers acquire DK Metcalf from Seahawks, plan to sign him to $150M deal 53. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Jayden Higgins, WR, Iowa State 54. Green Bay Packers: James Pearce Jr., Edge, Tennessee We’ll see what happens, but there has been a lot of scouting buzz about Pearce’s lack of coachability during his time at Tennessee, to a point where some aren’t sure he’ll go in the first or second round. Could that be bluster, to a degree? Sure. Pearce’s talent is immense, but evaluators have concerns. 55. Los Angeles Chargers: Elijah Arroyo, TE, Miami 56. Buffalo Bills (from MIN): Jaylin Noel, WR, Iowa State 57. Carolina Panthers (from LAR): Xavier Watts, S, Notre Dame 58. Houston Texans: Elic Ayomanor, WR, Stanford 59. Philadelphia Eagles: Harold Fannin Jr., TE, Bowling Green Round 3 (Note: An asterisk designates a projected compensatory pick.) 65. New York Giants: Jared Ivey, Edge, Ole Miss 66. San Francisco 49ers: Darien Porter, CB, Iowa State This might be too low for Porter, the 6-3, 195-pound former receiver who made the switch to cornerback just two years ago. Considering that he has a wingspan (80 inches) to make some offensive linemen jealous and ran a blazing 4.3 40, the Tariq Woolen comparisons will be flying off the shelf. Fake Ryzen 7 9800X3D bought from Amazon was actually an old AMD FX chip disguised by IHS sticker Fake Ryzen 7 9800X3D bought from Amazon was actually an old AMD FX chip disguised by IHS sticker Well-known hardware reviewers aren’t immune to tech retail fakers, and to demonstrate this, Hardware Busters has shared images of a counterfeit AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D and its packaging. Dealing with fakes seems to be part and parcel of being a tech enthusiast nowadays, but luckily Aris from Hardware Busters will very likely get his money back, via the returns process he has now begun on Amazon.de. The retail box that the fake Ryzen 7 9800X3D was shipped in was a decent enough copy to pass inspection (the packaging might even have been genuine). Aris Mpitziopoulos, the head honcho at Hardware Busters (and who you may also know for his in-depth power supply reviews here on Tom’s Hardware), says that he received the CPU on March 4, but only got around to ripping away the shrink wrap on March 9, due to a hectic schedule. Once the box was opened, fakery was immediately apparent. See the side-by-side genuine Ryzen 9000 chip (left) and faked 9800X3D (right) in our gallery, and the coveted X3D chip is obviously a fraud. AMD transitioned to the now-familiar octopus shaped IHS with the advent of the Ryzen 7000 series of desktop processors. So, perhaps Aris got an AMD CPU that was a couple of generations old? No. As you can see from the amazing IHS sticker peel image (top) under the sticker was an AMD FX-4100, a 32nm quad-core Bulldozer architecture chip that launched in 2011. Even in its prime, this AMD CPU lagged behind the Intel’s Core i3-2100 in gaming comparison tests we conducted in early 2012. The faked 9800X3D also features a completely different package with pins rather than pads, so an unobservant amateur PC DIYer could accidentally kill an expensive motherboard trying to crush this processor in an AM5 socket. That would be a terrible loss, and Aris was thankfully awake when he unboxed the counterfeit processor. Amazon Sold me a FAKE AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D!! – YouTube Watch On There are a few more details about this Amazon.de purchase that are interesting to repeat. Aris says that this 9800X3D was bought new, not used or returned, from Amazon direct, rather than a third-party seller. The sealed packaging seemed genuine to him. Now Hardware Busters has to deal with the waste of time and inconvenience of receiving this fake 9800X3D. Aris reckons it will take three weeks to be refunded the significant chunk of cash spent on this fake CPU. Get Tom’s Hardware’s best news and in-depth reviews, straight to your inbox. If you are in the market for the Ryzen 7 9800X3D, which sits confidently among the best CPUs, please be scam-aware. We have previously reported on Amazon US being flooded with fake $199 9800X3D listings – targeting the ****** Friday sales events last year. More recently, we noticed fake Ryzen 9000 series chips in China upcycling Ryzen 7000 parts, giving the fake CPU substrates a characteristic green tinge (they should be a shade of blue). *** PM to host virtual meeting on Ukraine on weekend *** PM to host virtual meeting on Ukraine on weekend *** Prime Minister Keir Starmer will host a virtual meeting of world leaders to discuss Ukraine on Saturday, building on a summit in London this month when he announced the formation of a “coalition of the willing” to support the invaded country. The United Kingdom and France are working on a plan to provide a peacekeeping force in Ukraine, if an agreement to pause the war with Russia can be reached. “You can expect the prime minister to host a second leaders’ meeting of the coalition of the willing, building on his Lancaster House summit,” Starmer’s spokesman told reporters, referring to the London meeting on March 2. So far only the *** and France have publicly committed to providing troops but other countries are either expected to or to offer other forms of support. Russia has shown no sign of agreeing to such a force while US President Donald Trump has far offered few assurances of providing a US security guarantee. The *** and France are involved in diplomatic and military talks to discuss what that force would look like and what its responsibilities could be. *** defence minister John Healey and the ***’s Chief of the Defence Staff Tony Radakin are both expected in France this week for separate talks on Ukraine while the foreign minister David Lammy will hold discussions with G7 colleagues in Canada. A French army official said on Monday that military officials from more than 30 countries will take part in Paris talks on the creation of an international security force for Ukraine. The long list of participants in Tuesday’s discussions will also include Asian and Oceania countries that will join remotely, the French official said. The French military official spoke to the Associated Press on condition of anonymity to discuss the blueprint for the force that is shrouded in secrecy and the Paris talks that will consider it. The force being envisaged by France and the *** could include heavy weaponry and weapons stockpiles that could be rushed within hours or days to aid in Ukraine’s defence in the event of a Russian attack that shatters any truce, the official said. The French-*** blueprint will be presented to military officials from more than 30 countries in the first part of Tuesday’s talks, the official said. The talks’ second part will include “more precise and concrete” discussions where the participants will be invited to say whether and how their militaries might be able to contribute, the official said. “It’s not ‘This is what we need’,” the official said. “It’s more, ‘What are you bringing to the pot?'”. The official stressed however that the ultimate decision on whether countries take part in the force would be taken at a political level by government leaders. Chiefs of staff – or, in Canada’s case, their representative – from nearly all of 32 countries of the NATO military alliance will attend the Paris discussions. Three NATO members will be absent but were invited: the United States, Croatia and Montenegro, the official said. Also attending will be the chiefs of staff of Ireland and Cyprus and a representative from Austria – all countries that are not NATO members but are in the European Union. Australia and New Zealand as well as Japan and South Korea will listen into the talks remotely, the official said. Ukraine will be represented by a military official who is also a member of the country’s security and defence council. Separately, US Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff said on Monday the US expects substantial progress in talks with Ukraine this week and hopes that a deal on critical minerals can be signed. US negotiators were set to meet with a Ukrainian delegation this week in Saudi Arabia. “I think that we’re going over there with an expectation that we’re going to make substantial progress,” Witkoff told Fox News. Asked if he thought Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy would return to the US to sign a minerals deal this week, Witkoff said, “I am really hopeful. All the signs are very, very positive”. Witkoff said among important items on the table will be security protocols for the Ukrainian side and territorial issues. Intelligence sharing also will be discussed at this week’s meetings, Witkoff said just before leaving for the Middle East for talks on the Gaza Strip. However, he said, the US never shut off intelligence for anything defensive that Ukrainian forces needed. with AP Source link #host #virtual #meeting #Ukraine #weekend Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content] For verified travel tips and real support, visit: [Hidden Content]

One Must-Buy Stock and One to Avoid as Tariffs Shake the Market One Must-Buy Stock and One to Avoid as Tariffs Shake the Market Professional traders get paid because of one skill and one skill only: the ability to foresee what the world (or the economy, at least) might look like in six to nine months. President Trump recently announced trade tariffs on trading partners like Canada and Mexico, which has sparked reactions in the business world. That’s exactly where a massive opportunity lies for investors today. Out of all the industries that can be the focus for a potential buy opportunity, the lumber industry is going to be the focus simply because it offers an opportunity for investors to hedge their views on upcoming tariffs. First, consumer discretionary names will have to adjust to rising costs and tariff uncertainty, a theme that has already started considering the decline in consumer spending in February 2025. The first step is to avoid the consumer branch of the lumber industry, which includes furniture products and others offered by Williams-Sonoma (NYSE:). The second step is for investors to figure out an offsetting bet to hedge their views in case they are wrong, and that is where shares of Weyerhaeuser (NYSE:) come into play for some massive upside potential. A Big Shift in The Market The United States imports roughly 30% of its total lumber consumption from Canada annually. However, a few things could happen to each country now that trade tariffs are in place. For starters, supply chains in the United States might have to ramp up their production in order to mitigate cost increases. This is going to create a potential bottleneck in the entire market, and that is something investors can see at play through the underperformance of the SDPR S&P Homebuilders ETF (NYSE:), which has declined by as much as 15.5% over the past quarter alone. One reason the market has turned bearish on housing and homebuilders is indirectly due to these tariffs, as rising lumber prices due to supply and cost disruption might stall construction activity. From here, two things will happen: either homebuilders pass down their costs by making homes more expensive, or margins simply will tighten up (explaining the decline in the index). The same dynamic is present for Williams-Sonoma stock, and here’s why investors should avoid buying that dip. Williams-Sonoma: Cheap For a Reason Over the past month alone, shares of Williams-Sonoma have declined by as much as 10.6%, delivering one big blow to investors’ morale and potentially bullish theses around this company. More than just avoiding this name until the lumber market is cleared, investors can take the reason behind the decline to help them make better decisions. Looking into the company’s latest quarterly financials, investors can note that Williams-Sonoma invested up to $203.9 million in new inventory. Now, considering rising lumber costs and lower consumer spending, investors might safely assume that this new inventory will see an increased portion of write-offs (losses). If new inventory will cost more during the coming quarter, and the inventory that’s on hand cannot be moved quick enough due to sluggish consumer activity, that’s a clear path to lower earnings per share (EPS) and, therefore, a much lower stock price. This is the bearish side of the lumber bet, but there is also an offsetting bullish one to consider. Smart Money Chooses Weyerhaeuser Over the past quarter alone, institutional players have bought up to $1.6 billion worth of Weyerhaeuser stock, a clear sign of confidence in this lumber producer and trader in the United States amid ongoing trade tariffs. If Canada trades less lumber, then domestic production will have to ramp up as the answer. Which is exactly why Wall Street analysts now forecast up to $0.25 in EPS for Weyerhaeuser stock in the third quarter of 2025, a significant boost from today’s $0.11 in EPS. Considering that it is EPS that drive stock prices and valuations, this forecast sets the foundation for investors to benefit the most from the current trade tariff situation. This might also explain why the broader market is willing to pay a price-to-earnings (P/E) ratio of 56.3x today, a steep premium to the rest of the construction sector’s 16.2x average valuation. Some investors might call this an expensive setup. Still, seasoned professionals will remind them that the market always overpays for companies expected to grow above the industry and the broader market. EU trade chief says U.S. not seeking deal to avert tariffs EU trade chief says U.S. not seeking deal to avert tariffs By Philip Blenkinsop BRUSSELS (Reuters) – The Trump administration does not seem to be engaging in talks to avert trade conflict with the European Union, the EU’s trade chief said on Monday, two days before the United States is set to impose tariffs on all steel and aluminium imports. European Trade Commissioner Maros Sefcovic told reporters in Brussels that he had travelled to Washington last month with the aim of starting a dialogue to avoid “the unnecessary pain of measures and countermeasures”. The two sides identified a few areas of mutual benefit to pursue, Sefcovic said. “But in the end, one hand cannot clap. The U.S. administration does not seem to be engaging to make a deal,” he continued. Sefcovic said that the European Union was ready for constructive engagement, that no one wins from tariffs and that partners with 1.6 trillion euros ($1.7 trillion) of mutual trade should be “extremely careful”. “So our doors are open. But of course, if this would not bring the positive result, in that case we will always protect European businesses, workers and consumers from unjustified tariffs,” he said. “I think we’ve been very clear about it and I know they expect no less from us.” ($1 = 0.9223 euros) (Reporting by Philip Blenkinsop and Bart Meijer, Editing by Charlotte Van Campenhout and Toby Chopra) Source link #trade #chief #U.S #seeking #deal #avert #tariffs Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content] For verified travel tips and real support, visit: [Hidden Content]

Long live Joyce Carol Oates’ Twitter account: the only pure space left on this hell site | Culture Long live Joyce Carol Oates’ Twitter account: the only pure space left on this hell site | Culture At the centre of most things is a skeleton. So it is for the online infamy of Joyce Carol Oates. In 2021, the award-winning novelist delivered her most significant contribution to literature: a diabolical tweet ruminating on the existentialism of Halloween. (you can always recognize a place in which no one is feeling much or any grief for a lost loved one & death, dying, & everyone you love decomposing to bones is just a joke.) [Hidden Content] — Joyce Carol Oates (@JoyceCarolOates) October 1, 2021 For the uninitiated, the 86-year-old, five-time Pulitzer finalist used her platform on X (formerly Twitter) to share a photo of an impressive, American-style Halloween decoration, which featured dozens of plastic skeletons clambering up the facade of a house. “You can always recognise a place in which no one is experiencing much or any grief for a lost loved one,” she wrote. “Everyone you love decomposing to bones is just a joke.” This unique take on Halloween traditions was met with a kind of confused online glee. In an increasingly polarised political world, it’s rare to encounter such a rogue and bafflingly strong opinion like this out of nowhere. No culture wars, no popular discourse, just a thought sprung into being like Athena from Zeus’s brow. Or a spooky ghost jumping out at you in a haunted house – although we shouldn’t joke about that. But this is more than just a one-off phenomenon. In fact, it’s just a single example of a bewildering array of classic Joyce Carol Oates tweets – a decade-long oeuvre which makes a compelling case for another addition to her trophy shelf: Twitter’s greatest poster. The poet laureate of social media. I’m not being snarky here; I genuinely love her tweets, and they are one of the only things that bring me joy in a rapidly Nazi-infested platform. As Twitter user Kaitlin Ruiz puts it: “She doesn’t need to answer to any specialization; an oracle is not beholden to coherence.” you have to understand that joyce carol oates is going to have decided views on trans rights (good!) and dinosaur poaching (bad!), also skeletons (frightening!). she doesn’t need to answer to any specialization; an oracle is not beholden to coherence. — Kaitlin Ruiz (@Kaitlin_M_Ruiz) February 21, 2023 Oates is a prolific writer in every aspect of her life. She has published 58 novels – but more importantly, she has written 170k tweets. Her targets are broad and plentiful. There are political takes: dozens of tweets a day about Harris v Trump, and Israel’s war on Gaza. She’ll be outspoken on trans rights one day, and writing about JD Vance’s tiny eyes on another – but she also isn’t afraid to venture into worlds of whimsy, such as her cat pondering the trolley problem. The point is that she posts frequently, without the agenda to sell something, and seemingly with unabashed sincerity. In interviews, she’s dismissed the medium as “ephemeral and quickly forgotten”. But her relationship to the platform feels pure. It’s the way Twitter should be used. the unexamined premise of the “trolley problem” is that individuals are free of subjective inclinations of all kinds including catnip inebriation when, as we know, not one philosopher who ever lived was/is free of subjective predilections/ unconscious motives. you kill the poor… [Hidden Content] — Joyce Carol Oates (@JoyceCarolOates) May 27, 2024 Every thought comes directly from her huge creative brain directly to the internet, the online farm-to-table. “All we hear of ISIS is puritanical & punitive; is there nothing celebratory & joyous?” she questioned back in 2015. “Are there instances of women becoming obsessed with historic events?” she mused in 2023. Then there’s the time she posted a truly confronting picture of her infected foot online. are there instances of women becoming obsessed with historic events? definitely a male preoccupation with certain phases of history (Civil War, Nazis, Hitler) & reenactments of battles. women may obsess over reading, music & dance, kitties, doggies, clothes, gardening, men. [Hidden Content] — Joyce Carol Oates (@JoyceCarolOates) June 24, 2023 Twitter’s owner, Elon Musk, constantly refers to Twitter as a “town square”, but following Joyce Carol Oates is more like being in a never-ending dinner party with the author, where she is sitting a couple of seats down from you. Every so often, while you’re eating your delicious fish meal and chatting to your neighbour, you’ll hear a snippet from Joyce Carol Oates waft up the table. You’ll usually miss the context about why she is currently waxing lyrical on this subject, or its relevance to anyone else, or even any greater nuance to the discussion – but that shouldn’t matter. We should all be grateful that we get to be permanently at a dinner party with Joyce Carol Oates. Skirmish in Syrian Capital Raises Fears of Expanding Violence Skirmish in Syrian Capital Raises Fears of Expanding Violence Gunmen attacked a position held by Syrian security forces in Damascus overnight, a war monitor said Monday, raising fears that the deadly violence sweeping Syria’s coastal region could spread to other parts of the country. The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, which has monitored the Syrian conflict since 2011, said that unidentified gunmen threw grenades and opened fire overnight on a building housing government security forces in the highly fortified Mezzeh district of the capital, Damascus. Clashes with government security forces ensued, and it was unclear if anyone was injured, the observatory said. It added that an unspecified number of arrests had been made. There was no immediate comment from Syria’s new government or on state news media, and the information could not be independently verified. The attack came as the country was reeling from a spate of violence that erupted last week between fighters affiliated with Syria’s new government, headed by Ahmed al-Shara, and those loyal to the ousted dictator Bashar al-Assad. More than 1,300 people have been killed since the fighting began, largely in the coastal Latakia and Tartus Provinces, the heartland of Syria’s Alawite *********, according to the observatory. It said on Monday that about 1000 civilians were included in that figure, most of whom were killed by armed forces affiliated with or loyal to the new government. The information could not be independently verified. The violence has stoked fears of a renewed sectarian conflict and presented what appeared to be the most serious challenge yet to Syria’s new leaders as they attempt to unite the country after more than a decade of war. The Assad family is Alawite and the sect dominated the country’s upper class and highest ranks of the former regime’s military. While state news media quoted a spokesman for the defense ministry, Col. Hassan Abdul Ghani, as saying on Monday that the “military operation” was over, the violence reportedly continued, as fighters affiliated with the government stormed a town near the coastal port city of Baniyas and set fire to homes, according to the observatory. . Syria’s interim president, Mr. al-Shara, said on Sunday that the government was forming a fact-finding committee to investigate the violence in the coastal regions and to bring the perpetrators to justice. But it wasn’t clear if he was acknowledging possible killings at the hands of his forces or laying the blame on former regime elements. In an apparent bid to reassure the nation, he appealed for calm on Sunday and repeated calls for Assad loyalists to lay down their arms. “We must preserve national unity and civil peace,” Mr. al-Shara said at a mosque in Damascus, according to video that circulated online. The Blood of Dawnwalker Will Feature a Superhero Duality That Hasn’t Been Explored in Games Yet The Blood of Dawnwalker Will Feature a Superhero Duality That Hasn’t Been Explored in Games Yet The master director behind The Witcher 3, Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, has slightly different plans for his upcoming The Blood of Dawnwalker. In this game, Rebel Wolves, the developer behind the game is experimenting with a different approach to character design. The Blood of Dawnwalker offers a complex duality in the nature of its protagonist. Image Credit: Rebel Wolves Tomaszkiewicz wants to present the world with a protagonist that has some sort of duality in nature, where he is often conflicted between good and evil. The way he does this is by turning him into a bloodthirsty vampire by night and a mere powerless, empathetic human by day. The Blood of Dawnwalker does not aim to be a superhero game As a vampire, the protagonist will thirst for blood. Image Credit: Rebel Wolves Tomaszkiewicz has raised concerns about creating a game revolving around a superhero. He wants to take on a different approach this time around, and the way he chooses to do so is by putting it into the hands of players and testing their morality. In The Blood of Dawnwalker, it will completely be in the hands of the player whether they want to choose a path of a villain or a hero. One can also be both. This director wants to present the players with this morality test. During an interview with PC Gamer, Tomaszkiewicz talked about this unique approach towards character development that has not yet been explored in video games. He said: It’s somehow interesting, this duality of the hero, which we know from Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, for example. It’s something in pop culture that is well-known and wasn’t yet explored in games. It gives you a different layer to those no-realities, and I think it would be quite interesting because nobody yet has done that. And we will see how people will like it. By taking a Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde approach for his protagonist in The Blood of Dawnwalker, the director aims at creating a complex character and wants to give full control over its actions in the hands of the player. It is rare to see such duality in the nature of a character in games In The Blood of Dawalker players could be killers by night and saviors by day. Image Credit: Rebel Wolves Video games often tend to portray white and ****** characters; there are very few who flourish in the gray areas. However, there are still a few games that have tried to mend the good and bad elements into a single character, but The Blood of Dawnwalker takes a different approach to it. In The Blood of Dawnwalker, it will completely be in the hands of the player to give into the impulse of causing mayhem or take a more saintly-like approach. This game offers a great adventure. As a vampire in the night, the character will thirst for blood and kill. It will completely be in the hands of the player to go the dark route or embrace the light and approach the game with less violence. It will be interesting to see how this unique gameplay experiment plays out once the game releases. Do you like this dual nature of the game’s protagonist? Let us know in the comments below. Why European Starlink rival Eutelsat shares are rocketing

Why European Starlink rival Eutelsat shares are rocketing Why European Starlink rival Eutelsat shares are rocketing A satellite dish in a ground network of satellites at Eutelsat’s Madeira office. Photographer: /Bloomberg via Getty Images Zed Jameson | Bloomberg via Getty Images Shares of French satellite operator Eutelsat skyrocketed almost 390% last week — and a potential change of tack in European defense has been helping the rally. The firm’s stock price saw wildly volatile moves last week, up by as much as 77% on Tuesday and by another 120% on Wednesday. From its closing price on Feb. 28 to last Friday’s close, shares have risen an eyewatering 387%. Eutelsat’s shares continued to climb on Monday, jumping more than 22% as of 1:00 p.m. local time in Paris. What’s behind Eutelsat’s huge share price gains? CNBC runs through all you need to know. What is Eutelsat? Eutelsat is a French company that produces satellites for data connectivity. The business sends its satellites to space using rockets from the likes of Elon Musk’s SpaceX, deploying them into both low earth orbit (LEO) and into geostationary orbit (GEO). Following a deal to combine its operations with British satellite firm OneWeb in 2023, Eutelsat became the world’s third largest satellite operator in terms of revenues. It competes with Musk’s Starlink satellite internet venture, a subsidiary of SpaceX. Why are shares skyrocketing? Last week, reports surfaced suggesting that Eutelsat was in the running to potentially replace Musk’s Starlink in the embattled Ukraine. For years, Starlink has offered Ukraine’s military satellite its internet services to assist with the war effort amid Russia’s ongoing invasion. However, relations between the U.S. and Ukraine have soured recently following the election of President Donald Trump. Musk serves as head of the newly instated Department of Government Efficiency, an advisory body assisting the administration. Last week, Trump paused all military aid to Ukraine following a clash with the country’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The confrontation happened after Trump shifted U.S. policy on Ukraine and Russia by reopening talks with Moscow. In February, reports said that U.S. negotiators had raised the possibility of cutting Ukraine’s access to Starlink if the two countries aren’t able to successfully negotiate a deal for the U.S. to secure access to Ukraine’s rare earth minerals. On March 4, Eutelsat said that it was in talks with the European Union to supply additional internet access to Ukraine. The French company’s shares had already begun surging the day prior, on the back of speculation that Eutelsat could serve as a replacement for Starlink in Ukraine if negotiations with the U.S. fracture further. Will Eutelsat replace Starlink? For now, it’s not entirely clear. The company is discussing an expansion of its services in Ukraine with the EU. Eutselsat arguably has the scale to offer additional support for Ukraine in terms of satellite-based connectivity. The firm says it currently has a fleet of 35 GEO satellites, in addition to an LEO constellation of more than 600 satellites. Over the weekend, Musk and U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio had a spat with Poland’s foreign minister on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, which Musk owns. The tech billionaire said that Ukraine’s “entire front line” would collapse if he were to switch off Starlink. In response, Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski said his country pays Starlink for services to Ukraine, which Warsaw has supported in its battle against Moscow’s invasion since 2022. Sikorski added Poland may have to seek alternative suppliers if Starlink proves to be an “unreliable provider.” Rubio disputed Sikorski’s claims, saying “no one has made any threats about cutting Ukraine off from Starlink” and urging gratitude — while Musk dubbed the Polish politician a “small man.” On Monday, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk defended his foreign minister, saying Sikorski “calmly” explained the “Polish raison d’état to officials from another country.” Source link #European #Starlink #rival #Eutelsat #shares #rocketing Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content] For verified travel tips and real support, visit: [Hidden Content] -
Supreme Court turns away red states’ bid to block blue states’ climate change lawsuits Supreme Court turns away red states’ bid to block blue states’ climate change lawsuits Washington — The Supreme Court on Monday turned away a bid by Republican-led states to block lawsuits brought by a group of Democratic-led states that seek to hold oil and gas companies accountable for their fossil fuel products’ contributions to climate change. The court’s decision to stay out of the dispute allows the five blue states to pursue lawsuits filed against the energy industry in their own courts. Justices Clarence Thomas and Samuel Alito dissented from the court’s decision not to allow the red states to seek its intervention. “Our exclusive original jurisdiction over suits between states reflects a determination by the framers and by Congress about the need ‘to open and keep open the highest court of the nation’ for such suits, in recognition of the ‘rank and dignity of the states,” Thomas wrote in a dissent joined by Alito. “Yet, this court has — essentially for policy reasons — assumed a power to summarily turn away suits between states. The court today exercises that power to reject a suit involving nearly half the states in the nation, which alleges serious constitutional violations.” The lawsuits The novel suits were brought by California, Connecticut, Minnesota, New Jersey and Rhode Island and seek to hold energy companies liable for allegedly deceiving the public about the dangers of their fossil-fuel products. Filed between 2018 and 2023, the suits allege claims arising under state laws but broadly accuse the energy industry of knowing for decades that greenhouse gas emissions would contribute to climate change. The states claim that oil and gas companies engaged in deceptive marketing by misrepresenting the dangers of their fossil fuel products, which caused consumers to use more of them. The oil and gas companies sought to move nearly all the cases to federal court, arguing that federal law governs interstate emissions, but the efforts were rejected by U.S. courts of appeals. The cases are now proceeding in state courts and are in the early stages of litigation. Oil and gas companies separately asked the Supreme Court to shut down a lawsuit brought by the city of Honolulu that is seeking to hold the industry liable for harms caused by the effects of climate change. But the high court in January said it would not consider the appeal from the 15 companies, including Sunono and Shell, which cleared the way for the cases to move forward in Hawaii state court. Alabama and 18 other Republican-led states separately went to the Supreme Court and urged it to exercise its original jurisdiction over disputes between the states. They asked the high court to block the civil suits filed by the Democratic-led states and prevent other litigation seeking similar relief in the future. The red states allege that the claims pending in state court seek to regulate activity outside of the blue states’ borders and involve an area governed by federal law. They argued in a Supreme Court filing that the blue states are seeking “massive” penalties and relief against energy producers that are not based in their states. If the Democratic-led states succeed, they warned it would have sweeping impacts on the national energy system. “If defendant states are right about the substance and reach of state law, their actions imperil access to affordable energy everywhere and inculpate every state and indeed every person on the planet,” the red states wrote. “Consequently, defendant states threaten not only our system of federalism and equal sovereignty among States, but our basic way of life.” But the attorneys general for the blue states told the court that their state-court actions seek to address local harms resulting from allegedly unlawful deceptive conduct by the oil and gas companies. Elon Musk’s Tesla facilities in the US face ‘Takedown’ protests Elon Musk’s Tesla facilities in the US face ‘Takedown’ protests Regan Morris BBC News Reporting fromBurbank, CaliforniaBBC Tesla facilities across the US are facing protests and vandalism in response to the political role Elon Musk, who owns the car manufacturer, has played in the Trump administration. Most “Tesla Takedown” protests have been peaceful, but a few have been destructive with fires intentionally set at Tesla showrooms and charging stations in Colorado and Massachusetts last week. That was followed by six arrests in New York over the weekend when hundreds of protesters occupied a Tesla showroom. There has also been a spike in Cybertruck vandalism across the US, and some car owners are defacing their own Teslas in protest of Musk. One woman showed up to a protest outside a Burbank Tesla on Sunday with an expletive and Musk’s name scrawled in chalk across her white Model X sedan. Another car carried an “Anti Elon Tesla Club” sticker. The protests illustrate a growing unease over Musk’s influence on the US government since President Donald Trump allowed him to create the cost-cutting task force Department of Government Efficiency (Doge). So far, Doge has fired or offered buyouts to about 100,000 federal employees and gained access to the sensitive personal and financial information of millions of Americans. Critics have resorted to calling the tech billionaire “President Musk”, arguing that he has too much power in the White House. Some at the protest in Burbank held signs that said “Deport Elon” and “Boycott Swasticar” – with protesters attempting to connect the car to fascism. Reuters Tesla produced the must-have electric cars for many Americans with progressive views, but several protesters said they regretted their purchase after Musk involved himself with Trump and US politics. Karen Rabwin, a protester at the Burbank Tesla on Sunday, attended just two days after trading in her Tesla for a Cadillac. She had slapped a bumper sticker on her old vehicle that read “Bought This Car Before We Knew” in a veiled reference to Musk, but she felt that wasn’t enough. “It was embarrassing,” she said of driving the Tesla. “It wasn’t what I stood for. How could I drive that car? I have principles.” Singer Sheryl Crow donated her Tesla to National Public Radio last month. She posted a video to Instagram waving goodbye to the car as it was towed away. “There comes a time when you have to decide who you are willing to align with. So long Tesla,” Ms Crow wrote. Musk has responded to the protests by sharing a video on X – the social media platform he owns – of a Cybertruck customer in Texas marvelling at the vehicle’s full self-driving mode. “Heartfelt thanks to everyone supporting Tesla, despite many attacks against our stores and offices,” Musk wrote. The social media platform has many posts of Tesla owners showcasing their electric cars. But there are also now videos showing a growing trend of Cybertrucks vandalized with swastikas, used as skate ramps or covered in garbage. During Mardi Gras in New Orleans, spectators booed an orange Cybertruck and pelted it with beads, calling the futuristic looking vehicle a “Deplorean” or other unfriendly monikers. Reuters Protesters on Sunday said they want to take down Telsa’s value because they are concerned that Mr Musk is damaging the economy and the the country – and their efforts may be having an effect. While Tesla’s share price surged after Trump was elected – with Musk by his side on election night in Florida – they have tumbled back to pre-election levels following the backlash to Musk’s political involvement. Some on Sunday also raised concerns that Musk’s government involvement is benefiting his businesses. Critics note that the tech entrepeneur’s companies have billions of dollar of contracts with the US government, primarily with Nasa and the Defense Department, which are increasingly reliant on Musk’s SpaceX for satellite launches and space exploration. Last week, reports claimed the Musk had attempted to get the Federal Aviation Administration to cancel a $2.4 billion contract with Verizon to revamp the agency’s telecommunications system and awarding it to Starlink, a company owned by SpaceX, instead. SpaceX denied that report, posting on X that “Starlink is a possible partial fix to an aging system. There is no effort or intent for Starlink to ‘take over’ any existing contract”. Some constituents are furious at Musk’s involvement and the White House’s effort to cut certain jobs and programmes. Many have show up at Republican town halls to protest the cuts and the tech billionaire’s growing influence. House Speaker Mike Johnson and other Republican leaders urged members of their party to stop hosting events in response, claiming without evidence that they were being disrupted by “professional protesters”. Assassin’s Creed Shadows Length Explained Assassin’s Creed Shadows Length Explained Ubisoft is known for making long Assassin’s Creed games, and Shadows looks like another sizable proposition. There’s a gulf in content between AC Mirage and Valhalla—the last two Assassin’s Creed games—so let’s see where Shadows falls. Assassin’s Creed has become the most iconic example of Ubisoft’s open-world formula. Large-scale collect-a-thons teeming with main missions, side quests, secrets, and more. The recent AC trilogy of Origins, Odyssey, and Valhalla were some of the biggest AC titles ever, and they gradually increased in size. Valhalla was monstrously big, and became even more bloated with its DLC. 2023’s AC Mirage stripped the experience back to fall in line with old-school entries. With all this said, let’s see what approach Assassin’s Creed Shadows takes. How Long is Assassin’s Creed Shadows to Complete? Expect a long and deep journey. Credit to Ubisoft A normal playthrough of Assassin’s Creed Shadows is expected to take anywhere between 40-80 hours. The information comes from an interview between popular social media user @Genki_JPN and Assassin’s Creed Shadows creative director Jonathan Dumont. Genki broke down the interview into bullet points and said: “Main story is 30-40 hours long.” This is a pretty high figure for a campaign length. But I’m trying to break down a typical Assassin’s Creed Shadows playthrough. So, if you complete campaign, tick off a bunch of side content, and hunt down extras to pad out your runtime, I think 40-80 hours is spot on. How Long to Complete Everything in Assassin’s Creed Shadows? A completionist run of Assassin’s Creed Shadows likely requires over 100 hours of your free time. Again, using Genki’s interview as a basis, they say Shadows has: “Above 80 hours or much more with side content.” From the sounds of it, Shadows is somewhere between Odyssey and Valhalla for total completion. The statement above to me screams a hundred hours of content if your goal is to see and do everything. I had the opportunity to interview Assassin’s Creed Shadows Creative Director Jonathan Dumont. Here are some of the key points: – Now was the right time for Japan because the team really wanted to do it and it was a dream for them. – Japan needed movement in the natural world… This is also on the basis you don’t die, and don’t get stuck, and let’s face it, we’re all human. You’re likely to get a lot of value for money. Plus, if you claim Assassin’s Creed Shadows pre-order bonuses ahead of the full release date, you can score a ton of new story content with pre-order goodies. Ubisoft is presumably crossing all of its fingers and toes hoping Assassin’s Creed Shadows does well. The company needs a big win, and current pre-orders are looking good. If you’re interested, check out Shadows’ Xbox Game Pass and Early Access possibilities ahead of launch. Is this the beginning of a new chapter for Assassin’s Creed Shadows? March Came in Like a Lion—Key Sectors Now Look to Hold Above Support Levels March Came in Like a Lion—Key Sectors Now Look to Hold Above Support Levels Let’s get right to it. First a quick comment on the weekly charts. The () (Gramps) is at a key life support level on the 200-week moving average. Grandma Retail is intubated right now. is still ok. In fact, I am keen on this sector. Sister Semiconductors might take a while to get her groove back. Transportation , a move up this coming week will help. , like Gramps, is on key life support. Secondly, we will examine the 3 members of the Family and look at their Daily/Monthly timeframes for price consensus. I choose the 3 areas that Stanley Druckenmiller called the “inside sectors” of the US economy. Then, we will hopefully ascertain who is more accurate. Treasury Secretary Bessent telling us to prepare for detox. Or Jerome Powell telling us that the economy is solid. Remember, price rules the narrative. We see that on the weekly chart, IWM must hold the 200 level. On the daily chart, it is possible that Friday was the flush, but we won’t know that until this week. Plus, the momentum indicator is oversold, but no mean reversion yet. One other potentially good sign is that the monthly moving average, the 2-year business cycle indicator, continues to hold economic expansion. One thing is for sure: 200 is the level to hold. Here is where it gets even more interesting. XRT on the daily, after a huge breakdown on the weekly chart, could be showing support at 70.00. Tuesday, Thursday and Friday last week, that level was tested and held. But is that enough? Looking at the monthly chart, XRT now sits back in economic contraction or below the 23-month moving average. The month is not over, though. Unless we see a close over that critical blue monthly moving average, we will continue to think this is a sell-rallies market. What about Transportation? After all, the theory is old but still applicable. Notice that IYT is stuck between the January 6-month calendar range low (red horizontal line) and the 200-daily moving average. Plus, IYT is outperforming the benchmark. On the momentum indicator, IYT shows that perhaps the momentum of selling is slowing. I would like to see IYT get back over 69. On the monthly chart, IYT is in much better shape than IWM and XRT. If you put this all together, it seems that transportation can drag us out of detox. Granny can nail the coffin shut. And Granddad can go either way. Now you have the 3 key sectors and key numbers to watch this mid-week of March. ETF Summary (Pivotal means short-term bullish above that level and bearish below.) S&P 500 (SPY): Held the 200-DMA-key Russell 2000 (IWM): Maybe a reversal-211 resistance Dow (DIA): 432 pivotal Nasdaq (QQQ): A move over 493 would look better Regional banks (KRE): 57-58 support Semiconductors (SMH): 220 support. 230 resistance Transportation (IYT): 67-68 support Biotechnology (IBB): Big one to watch as it cleared a calendar range and moving average Retail (XRT): A move over 72 better iShares 20+ Treasury Bonds (TLT): 90 support to hold Source link #March #LionKey #Sectors #Hold #Support #Levels Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content]

Migrants Face Perilous Journey After Aid Groups Who Helped Them Go North Aren’t Helping Them Return Migrants Face Perilous Journey After Aid Groups Who Helped Them Go North Aren’t Helping Them Return PANAMA – Migrants who once journeyed to the U.S. southern border are now turning back due to the shift in U.S. immigration policies. Over the past four years, the number of irregular migrants passing through the lawless Darién Gap grew exponentially. Today, that flow has dwindled to almost nothing. However, there’s a twist—tightened U.S. border policies have forced many migrants to seek work elsewhere or return to their home countries. Panamanian Carlos Lorenzo described the movement of returning migrants. “More than a thousand people have already passed through here in less than a month. About 100 per day. Sometimes 50. It depends on the flow of people.” CBN News visited the Port of Cartí on Panama’s northern Caribbean coast. Typically, this area sees only tourists headed for the San Blas Islands, home to the indigenous Guna people. Now, the boats that once carried tourists are being used for something far more dangerous—and much more profitable. Venezuelan migrant Ludi Maday recounted her experience. “When we walked through the jungle, they robbed us—in the Darién. From there, we made our way to Mexico.” Having endured the deadly trek north, few migrants are willing to risk returning the same way. This has left hundreds stranded in Panama with no safe or affordable way home. Migrants who spent everything to reach the U.S. are now struggling to afford passage back by boat. Months ago, as they moved north, they were met with aid groups offering food, water, shelter, and financial assistance—much of it funded by U.S. taxpayers. Now, as they head back, those organizations are nowhere to be found. Many migrants have nothing left. Venezuelan migrant Joember explained his decision to return. “When Trump came in, CBP One was gone, and the chances of getting in became almost impossible. So we decided to turn back.” Carlos Lorenzo added, “Of course, there are migrants who clearly don’t have enough money to travel to Colombia or Necoclí, but they get outside help—family members in the United States, Colombia, Venezuela…” While some rely on friends and family to fund their return, the same cartels that profited from smuggling them north are now making money off their retreat. Another growing problem is friction with local indigenous tribes. A Panamanian immigration official explained the situation. “They have already decided, through a meeting, that they will not allow entry. In reality, they are the ones who make the rules on their land. Their response is that, for security reasons, it is not viable or safe for migrants to take that route.” Meanwhile, Panamanian immigration officials, along with border police, have arrived to brief the migrants. Officials announced plans to transport them to Colón, where they will face an even longer and more perilous boat journey. Even for those who can afford the passage, the risks are high. Recently, an overloaded boat capsized off Panama’s coast, killing an eight-year-old Venezuelan child. Yet, despite the dangers, many feel they have no choice but to attempt the journey. Venezuelan migrant Ludi Maday shared her difficult decision. “In November, we started returning… When we saw that we were not going to be able to cross into the U.S., we decided it was better to just go back. And so here we are.” These migrants still hope for a better life, but they now search for it elsewhere. Their journey home is filled with hardship and regret as they face the cost of their failed attempt. And as long as there is money to be made, there will always be those who exploit their desperation—on both sides of the border. ***Please sign up for CBN Newsletters and download the CBN News app to ensure you receive the latest news from a distinctly Christian perspective.*** Source link #Migrants #Face #Perilous #Journey #Aid #Groups #Helped #North #Arent #Helping #Return Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content] For verified travel tips and real support, visit: [Hidden Content]
