  3. Nweke scores 54 as Swifts beat Thunderbirds Nweke scores 54 as Swifts beat Thunderbirds Star New Zealand goalshooter Grace Nweke has produced yet another dazzling display to help lead the NSW Swifts to a 71-63 win over the Queensland Thunderbirds at Ken Rosewall Arena. Scores were level at half-time of Sunday’s Super Netball match, but the Swifts broke the contest open with a 23-13 third quarter to improve their season record to a perfect 4-0. Nweke was the star of the show, nailing 54 goals from 56 attempts The 23-year-old shot 148 goals across her first three games for the Swifts, and she was unstoppable yet again. “I’m learning on the job and really enjoying it,” Nweke told Fox Sports “I’m happy with how I played. I think it’s a pretty standard game for me. “I’m working on keeping my losses down. Just wanting to be a bit better in that regard. “I feel like I was available to the ball and pretty accurate with my shots, so can’t complain too much. Nweke has been working on her movement in order to become a more complete player. “I’m not wanting to be a one-trick pony,” she said. “I want to be able to diversify my skill sets, and know that in moments where I need to change up what I’m doing, I can do that.” Swifts wing attack Paige Hadley was also a powerhouse, earning player of the match honours for her 32 feeds and just one turnover. “I was just so in the moment,” Hadley said. “We knew it was going to be a grind. I’m really proud of the girls in that third quarter. We stuck to our game plan beautifully.” Firebirds goalshooter Mary Cholhok led the way for the visitors with 42 goals from 50 attempts. Peter Dutton quiet in defeat after becoming first Opposition Leader in *********** history to lose seat Peter Dutton quiet in defeat after becoming first Opposition Leader in *********** history to lose seat Peter Dutton has gone quiet in the wake of the defeat, remaining in hibernation on Sunday after becoming the first Opposition Leader in *********** history to lose his seat at an election. After previously holding 56 seats, the Coalition is now on track to slump into the low 40s, with only 37 confirmed as of Sunday afternoon. Mr Dutton had gone to ground as the magnitude of the loss sent shockwaves through the party. Acting Liberal leader Sussan Ley was left to speak up for the party, and paid tribute to Mr Dutton. She thanked him for 25 years of service and describing him as an “outstanding” parliamentarian, cabinet minister, and party leader. Feel like giving the politicians a rating this Federal election? Our Pollie Rater lets you do just that. Rate the politicians Beyond a formal statement from Ms Ley, there was little to no public thanks or farewell for the outgoing Liberal leader. Ms Ley, who served as deputy for the past three years, acknowledged it was a tough time for the party and offered a respectful nod to Mr Dutton’s lengthy political career. “Last night was a very difficult night for the Liberal Party and today we reflect on these results with humility,” she said. “I want to pay particular tribute to Peter Dutton and thank him for his 25 years of deeply valued service to our country,” she added. Beyond Tony Abbott and Christian Porter on Saturday night, current and former party members were few and far between. Even former prime minister John Howard — whom Mr Dutton referenced at almost every opportunity — was not seen at his Brisbane function. And aside from a single rally appearance and photo opportunity in Adelaide with Anne Ruston, Mr Dutton was largely deserted by his team in the final week of his campaign. Where his earlier press conferences had been backed by multiple faces, in the final week he stood alone, taking responsibility on his own shoulders. Mr Dutton’s silence echoes that of his predecessor Scott Morrison after the 2022 election loss. 6. Hybrid SUV with 840-mile range launched in China, features twin electric motors Hybrid SUV with 840-mile range launched in China, features twin electric motors China’s Geely and Zeekr-owned Swedish automaker Lynk & Co has unveiled its flagship plug-in hybrid SUV, dubbed Lynk & Co 900, featuring a massive 30-inch 6K screen and second row seats that can rotate 180 degrees. The launch of the SUV marks a departure from Lynk & Co’s established custom of naming models 01, 02 and so on, with the last vehicle in the lineup christened Lynk & Co 09. The newest SUV is available for purchase in China and comes with a starting price tag of $42,520 or 309,900 yuan. Originally founded as a joint brand between Geely and Volvo, Lynk & Co came under the majority ownership of Geely’s Zeekr Intelligent Technology Holding in February 2025 and now offers a wide range of models in the ******** market. Launched to compete with Aito M9, the Li Auto L9, and the Denza N9 in China’s domestic market, the 900 has six seats placed to mimic a living room set up where passengers can face each other. While the middle row seats can turn around completely, the third row can be moved forward or backward by 125 mm. Balancing size and aerodynamics The Lynk & Co 900 is a large SUV measuring 5240 mm in length, 1999 mm in width, and 1800 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 3160 mm. Despite its size, it maintains a relatively low drag coefficient of 0.291 Cd, better than the Li Auto L9’s 0.300 Cd. It has a ground clearance of 194 mm and offers R20 or R21 wheels. The mid-trim version features 4-piston brake calipers, and a dual-chamber air suspension adds to its driving comfort. The base model of the Lynk & Co 900 uses the G-Pilot H5 system, powered by two Nvidia Drive Orin-X chips. Higher trims upgrade to the G-Pilot H7 system, which runs on a single Nvidia Drive Thor chip. The vehicle supports Navigate on Autopilot (NOA) for both highway and city driving, CarNewsChina reports. The model’s crossover features a 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine producing 188 horsepower, paired with two electric motors—one on the front axle with 215 hp and another on the rear with 308 hp. Together, they deliver a combined output of 711 horsepower. The vehicle uses a 44.85 kWh ternary NMC battery, offering up to 137 miles of electric range (CLTC) and a total mixed range of around 841 miles. The Lynk & Co 900’s second trim is powered by a 2.0-liter engine generating 251 horsepower, along with two electric motors—165 hp at the front and 308 hp at the rear. The total combined power output is 724 horsepower. Equipped with a 52.38 kWh ternary NMC battery, it offers up to 174 miles of electric range (CLTC) and a total mixed range of about 839 miles. Top trim hits 62 mph in 4.3 seconds The top variant of the Lynk & Co 900 features the same 2.0-liter internal combustion engine paired with three electric motors. The front e-motor delivers 165 hp, while the two rear electric motors provide a combined 456 hp. The system produces a total output of 872 hp, allowing the SUV to accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in just 4.3 seconds. It offers 167 miles of electric range (CLTC) and a total mixed range of approximately 896 miles. Lynk & Co states that the roof rack can support 220 lbs while driving and 661 lbs when stationary. The vehicle comes with roughly 21-inch alloys and large front brake calipers, possibly Akebono, like other Lynk & Co and Zeekr models. For safety, the 900 features the world’s first one-piece thermoformed side panel for added strength and a W-shaped crumple zone at the front for better frontal impact protection. It is also the only car tested to a rear-end collision standard of 62 mph. Federal election 2025: Bullwinkel down to the wire, race to be decided by postal votes Federal election 2025: Bullwinkel down to the wire, race to be decided by postal votes Western Australia’s newest seat is also the State’s closest, with only 108 votes separating Labor candidate Trish Cook and Liberal rival Matt Moran in Bullwinkel. A three-way contest complicated the count, with star Nationals recruit Mia Davies dragging attention away from the Liberal campaign. But the former State Opposition Leader appeared stranded in third place on a primary vote of 16.4 per cent, with her preferences flowing Mr Moran’s way. He was optimistic, but cautious, when he thanked supporters, desperate for some good news, in Kalamunda on Saturday night. “What a ride, we’re not there yet,” Mr Moran said. Feel like giving the politicians a rating this Federal election? Our Pollie Rater lets you do just that. It’s about service and that means a lot. “We ran a disciplined campaign, a strong campaign and a local campaign . . . I am committed to this community, let’s bring it home.” Mr Moran said cost-of-living was his focus, but his bid for office was also boosted by the Keep The Sheep campaign against a looming ban on live exports. On Sunday, Labor vowed to push ahead with the controversial policy as Ms Cook clung to hopes she could hold on to a 50.1 to 49.9 two-party preferred lead. “I’m feeling great, I’m delighted with the Labor win, I’m so pleased for my teammates,” she said. “Obviously we’re counting in Bullwinkel. 10. Two Russian Su-30 Flankers Downed By AIM-9s Fired From Drone Boats: Ukrainian Intel Boss Two Russian Su-30 Flankers Downed By AIM-9s Fired From Drone Boats: Ukrainian Intel Boss Ukraine’s Defense Intelligence Directorate (GUR) shot down two Su-30 Flanker multirole fighters with AIM-9 Sidewinder infrared-guided air-to-air missiles fired by Magura-7 drone boats, the head of the agency told The War Zone exclusively. This marks the first time fighter airecraft have been downed by drone boats and the first use of the AIM-9 from a drone boat for a kill. “It’s a historical moment,” Lt. Gen. Kyrylo Budanov told us. The War Zone cannot independently verify this claim. The incident took place in the ****** Sea on Friday, said Budanov, who offered new details about what happened. Previous reporting from GUR, the Ukrainian Defense Ministry and Russian Telegram channels stated that one Flanker was shot down by an adapted infrared-guided R-73 (AA-11 Archer) short-range air-to-air missile. Video emerged on social media showing the first Flanker downing. Budanov said there were no videos or images of the second engagement. GUR used three Magura-7 drone boats in the attack, with two of them firing on the jets, according to Budanov. The Magura-7 is an air defense variant of the Magura-5, he explained, declining to elaborate on the difference between the two Russia has captured an intact Ukrainian MAGURA V drone boat, Russian sources claimed. Via Twitter An intact Ukrainian MAGURA V5 drone boat that Russian forces recovered in November 2023. Via Twitter Budanov said that the crew of the first Su-30 survived and was picked up in the ****** Sea by a civilian ship. Preliminary reports say the crew of the second jet was killed, he added. This is not the first time Ukraine has said it shot down an aircraft with a missile fired by a drone boat. In December, Ukraine claimed it used an R-73 fired from an uncrewed surface vessel (USV), better known as a drone boat, to down a Russian Mi-8 Hip helicopter over the ****** Sea. You can see that encounter in the video below. GUR began installing AIM-9s on drone boats in January, Budanov said. He would not comment on whether this was the first time they had been fired at a target from a USV. In the past, we have only seen Soviet-designed air-to-air missiles used as SAMs mounted on Ukrainian drone boats. “We use a couple of models [of missiles] on our Magura-7, but the best results [come from] the AIM-9,” he noted. As we have previously noted, the AIM-9M is broadly similar to the R-73 in terms of capabilities and rough dimensions, but with one major difference. Video capture of a Ukrainian drone boat backing an R-73 air-to-air missile. (Via X) From our earlier reporting: “More specifically, the AIM-9M has the all-aspect capability introduced on the AIM-9L model but provides all-around better performance. It has improved defense against infrared countermeasures, enhanced background discrimination capability, and a reduced-smoke rocket motor. The U.S. Air Force first received deliveries of the AIM-9M model in 1983.” One thing the AIM-9M does not have, unlike the R-73, is high-off-boresight (HOBS) capabilities, where its seeker can be slaved far off its centerline axis to lock on and engage targets at extreme angles. This would make locking onto aircraft harder when mounted on a drone boat. Unless the launcher is articulated, and we have not seen that with prior Ukrainian SAM-configured drone boats, the vessel would have to point the missile at the target to get it into its seeker’s view, which is somewhat narrow. It’s also worth noting that the Sidewinder has been adopted for surface-based naval air defense before in the Sea Chaparral configuration. Ukraine has received an unspecified number AIM-9Ms from the United States and possibly its coalition of backers. The Pentagon has sent Ukraine an unspecified number of AIM-9M Sidewinder missiles. USN We have previously suggested that Ukraine could use its donated AIM-9M missiles on its fighter aircraft, although we have not seen proof of this at this time. AIM-9s could also be used on Ukraine’s so-called FrankenSAMs. Russian Telegram channels acknowledged that one Flanker was downed by a drone-boat-launched missile and said the attack raised troubling issues. “Three sad moments can be noted, which indicate, to put it mildly, problems in our military organization in the fourth year of the Special Military Operation,” the popular War Correspondent Kitten Telegram channel complained. “1. The enemy seized the initiative in the ****** Sea. 2. The ****** Sea Fleet, after the loss of the flagship [ Project 1164 Slava class cruiser Moskva] and a number of ships, has still not been restored in terms of combat capability. The fleet (what remains) is huddled in harbors and bays. 3. The enemy has an overwhelming advantage in the use of unmanned boats (USVs) with the ability to attack in any part of the water area and keep the coast of the Russian Federation and the adjacent airspace under control.” Ukraine shot the Su-30 down about 50 km (about 31 miles) west of Novorossiysk, “using the same tactics: lured it out and caught it,” Russian military expert Vladislav Shurygin explained on Telegram. “The pilots ejected and were picked up by civilian sailors. Both are alive, and the plane – to hell with it. The main thing is that people are alive.” Ukraine says it used drone-boat-launched AIM-9 missiles to shoot down two Su-30 Flanker multirole fighters, like this one depicted. (Photo by Igor Russak/NurPhoto via Getty Images) NurPhoto Shurygin chided the Russian military for allowing Ukrainian drone boats to be so effective. “The very fact of a strike with a SAM is not new, as the Ukrainian Armed Forces already attacked in a similar way in December last year. But for some reason, many people are still surprised by this,” he wrote. “And the most important thing is that there are means to combat this threat. As practice has shown tonight, even ordinary [first-person view] FPV drones with competent operators effectively destroy [USVs].” Russia first began using FPV drones to attack Ukrainian USVs in May of 2024. “Against the backdrop of yesterday’s attack on Novorossiysk and the loss of the Su-30SM, questions are being asked about how to solve the problem of coastal defense without having to send planes to fire cannons at the [USVs] like in World War II,” the Russian Two Majors Telegram channel posited. “The answer is simple: look at the land theater of operations and the revolution in UAVs, which we wrote about back in early January. Unmanned aircraft are capable of solving the same problems at sea, and in conditions of lesser opposition.” In addition to using FPV drones to target the USVs, Two Majors suggested using “the long-established combination of the ZALA reconnaissance UAV and the Lancet loitering munition…Unlike the front lines, where they are hunted by interceptors and RADA radars, there is nothing like that over the ****** Sea.” The ability to shoot down fast-moving jets with AIM-9 missiles is another step forward for Ukraine’s highly innovative applications for its drone boats and one more threat for Russian aviation to be wary of. 11. “Patient Gamers” Won’t Let $80 Games Become the New Norm “Patient Gamers” Won’t Let $80 Games Become the New Norm It’s fair to say that price is the current hot topic in the gaming industry. Once, we all thought that $60 was the standard, but then developers pushed it towards $70, and now we’re reaching the $80 tag. It all started when Nintendo revealed Switch 2 and its launch title, Mario Kart World, which is set to cost $79.99. Gamers flooded every post related to Switch 2 and rallied for a price drop. However, the Japanese gaming giant opened a can of worms. Even Microsoft stepped in, raising the prices not only on Xbox consoles and accessories but also on first-party games, establishing that $80 is the new standard. Developers and publishers want gamers to get used to paying more for everything in the current landscape. However, few in the community aren’t willing to give up that easily and are planning to hold on against this price hike wave. Gamers fight back against Xbox and Nintendo price hikes Well, you might be wondering, what exactly is the reason behind these gaming giants ramping up prices out of nowhere? Well, it’s apparently due to the current state of the global economy. Due to the tariffs imposed on China by the United States, there is increasing instability in the world economy. With such conditions, gaming companies state that there’s bound to be a rise in development and manufacturing costs. Obviously, companies such as Microsoft and Nintendo wouldn’t give up on their profit margins. So, they’re pushing the increased costs upon gamers and making $80 triple-A releases a reality. As time goes on, we’re likely to see other major companies, such as EA and Ubisoft, explore the idea of $80 games as well. It’s something completely inevitable now, but over on r/Games, the community isn’t willing to pay full prices for games that are half-baked and filled with endless microtransactions. As user roth_dog says, more and more people will become “patient gamers” and wait for prices to drop rather than buy at full launch prices. It’s a practical thing, as there’s no need to rush in and get games for $80. Eventually, big gaming companies are forced to discount their titles in seasonal sales. The waiting game always pays off. Others, such as user SnowCowboy216, have also chimed in, revealing that they always “wait to buy” games. Almost all titles get discounted within time, dropping from their steep price tags to the $10-$20 range. The only downside to waiting for discounts is for multiplayer games that are best enjoyed right after their release. Clearly, developers have forgotten about the existence of free-to-play games. As user Cynical_onlooker says, these sorts of games are “prominent and high quality,” which allows millions of players to access them. If paid games continue to jack up prices without justifying their costs, players will ignore them in favor of free alternatives. GTA 6 might be one of the only few games that justify its high price tag. (Image via Rockstar Games) Forget the $80 price tag. Some in the community stopped purchasing triple-A titles when they reached the $70 price tag. User TyLion8 states that unless “it’s GTA 6”, which is literally a once-in-a-decade franchise at this point, they aren’t planning to purchase such expensive games ever. However, even GTA 6 might surpass the standards set by Xbox and Nintendo, as it’s rumored that it could cost up to $100. Gamers have more choices than ever. There are tons of indie titles and subscription services, making high-quality gaming more accessible. There’s no urgency to throw away $80 on new releases that don’t offer good value and are packed with frustrating issues. Xbox and Nintendo can raise their game prices. However, as long as gamers are willing to play the long game and are patient, these companies will be forced to look at their pricing strategies. Will PlayStation also follow the new $80 price trend? Sony is likely to follow the price hike trend. (Image via Sony) Nintendo’s decision to increase prices for games started a chain reaction in the industry, and Microsoft followed as well. As we’ve said before, it won’t be long before other publishers and companies jump aboard this ship and make gaming expensive. Since the announcement of price hikes, fans have been waiting to see if Sony will follow the trend. Many have been hopeful that Sony will take advantage of this moment and establish the PlayStation brand as one that’s friendly for gamers and doesn’t succumb to corporate greed. However, that’s unlikely to be the case, as PlayStation will undoubtedly announce price hikes as well in the upcoming weeks. The higher costs of manufacturing and tariff wars unleashed by Donald Trump will be enough for Sony to step in and state that it’s going to have to meet the current economic realities as well. Sony has always held up the premium value of its first-party games, which the company believes is the benchmark for quality and innovation. We’ve seen first-party PlayStation games such as The Last of Us and Marvel’s Spider-Man enjoying immense critical success, and that gives Sony enough ammunition to justify higher prices. Let’s not forget what happened with Returnal. The PlayStation title decided to launch at a $70 price tag despite not feeling like a triple-A game and having more indie roots. Sony’s decision to stick with that pricing proves that it’s overconfident about its intellectual properties. In Sony’s view, reducing the price of its first-party games would slash the value of its brand in comparison to Xbox. That’s a hit it certainly can’t afford, as Team Green has been on a roll in recent months and outclassing PlayStation in almost every aspect. It’s sad that even Sony is going to chase the industry trends. However, the only way to fight back is by voting with our wallets. There’s no need to purchase these $80 games, as waiting out for discounts and opting for other quality low-cost games is the right choice. With that said, what do you think about the gaming industry establishing $80 games as a new norm? Let us know in the comments below. 13. Glory apologise to fans after season-ending win Glory apologise to fans after season-ending win Perth Glory’s season from hell has at least ended on a high, with a classy Adam Taggart double catapulting them to an upset 2-0 win over Wellington Phoenix in New Zealand. Glory entered Sunday’s A-League Men match already knowing they had collected the wooden spoon for a second consecutive season. Taggart ensured Glory fans had a little something to smile about by scoring his ninth and 10th goals of the season to lift Perth to their first win over Wellington since 2020. Glory finished the season with four wins, five draws and a whopping 17 losses to their name. Their for-and-against goals tally made for ugly reading: 22-56, and Taggart spoke some hard truths after the match. “We apologise for this season and wish we could have given more performances like tonight, because I thought tonight everyone was fantastic, from start to finish,” Taggart told Sky Sport. “They’re the sort of things we needed throughout the year. “We’re looking forward to being better. No excuses, full accountability. Putting in a performance like tonight is our base, and kicking off from that. “It was clear this year we weren’t great going forward. We leaked a lot of goals. “From top to bottom we haven’t been good enough. “I think everyone’s sick of hearing all the words. They want action, and so do I. “(It’s about) more actions, less words, and keep trying to push and move forward.” Taggart showed all of his class in scoring the game’s opener in the 34th minute. The 31-year-old captain trapped a cross, shaped to shoot off his left, then cut back inside before curling in a right foot shot over the keeper. Taggart was left cursing his luck in the 56th minute when he lost sight of a bobbling ball that made its way through a host of bodies to find him at the back post. The ball hit Taggart and bounced just wide of the goal. But he scored his 10th of the season in the 92nd minute with a right-foot ***** over the keeper. Wellington ended the season in 11th spot with six wins, six draws and 14 losses. Source link #Glory #apologise #fans #seasonending #win Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content]
  14. Investors Are Piling Into This Hot New SPAC Stock Taking on MicroStrategy. Should You Follow Their Lead? Investors Are Piling Into This Hot New SPAC Stock Taking on MicroStrategy. Should You Follow Their Lead? This company wants to help investors earn a yield on their Bitcoin. After announcing a merger with a SPAC, the valuation is even higher than Strategy. Whether it’s worth that price depends on your expectations for Bitcoin and the company. Strategy (NASDAQ: MSTR), formerly known as MicroStrategy, has transformed itself from an enterprise software provider to a Bitcoin (CRYPTO: BTC) treasury over the last few years. The company’s software business has taken a back seat to CEO Michael Saylor’s efforts to accumulate more and more Bitcoin every week. He’s even compared his company’s stock to a leveraged Bitcoin ETF back in 2022. The stock has attracted quite a following, especially as Bitcoin has soared in value over the last five years. Now, another company wants to copy Saylor’s playbook and build a business focused exclusively on accumulating Bitcoin for shareholders. It will go public via SPAC, and investors are already piling into it in anticipation. Where to invest $1,000 right now? Our analyst team just revealed what they believe are the 10 best stocks to buy right now. Continue » Image source: Getty Images. One group of crypto enthusiasts believe the biggest thing holding back Strategy is its actual business. Twenty One, a new Bitcoin treasury backed by Tether, the company behind the stablecoin, crypto exchange Bitfinex, and SoftBank, aims to do away with unrelated businesses so it can concentrate solely on accumulating Bitcoin. It announced plans to merge with Cantor Equity Partners, a SPAC that’s been trading on the public market since last August, as it looks for an investment partner. Following the announcement, shares promptly tripled in value as investors piled into the stock amid excitement for Twenty One. The spike in value for the Cantor shares gives the fund a market value around $400 million, as of this writing. To be clear, the stock currently represents a $100 million pile of cash to be exchanged for a 2.7% stake in Twenty One post-merger. The company expects to establish a treasury of 42,000 Bitcoins, building on the $3 billion worth of the currency supplied by Tether, Bitfinex, and Softbank. The additional Bitcoin will come from purchases using funds raised from the merger and debt. Based on some back-of-the-envelope math, that means investors are valuing Twenty One’s planned Bitcoin holdings at nearly four times their value. As of this writing, Bitcoin trades for just over $95,000. So 2.7% of 42,000 Bitcoin is worth about $108 million. That doesn’t include the shareholders’ portion of the proposed debt financing. Story Continues Some premium for future shares of Twenty One is due. After all, the goal of Twenty One is to increase Bitcoin per share. In other words, investors will get a yield on their Bitcoin holdings through Twenty One. It’s currently impractical for most Bitcoin investors to earn any return beyond price appreciation from Bitcoin ownership, so there is some value there. Strategy stock notably trades around twice the value of its Bitcoin treasury. That’s instrumental to its strategy. It can sell shares of the company on the market at twice the value of its existing holdings. Then it can use that capital to buy Bitcoin, further increasing the value of its stock by about twice the value of the Bitcoin it just bought. Rinse and repeat. The company’s board recently authorized management to increase share count from 330 million to 10.3 billion, and its preferred shares from 5 million to 1 billion. This strategy is what makes buying MicroStrategy risky. As long as Bitcoin continues to increase in value, there’s no issue. However, a significant drop in the cryptocurrency’s value could threaten the entire system because of MicroStrategy’s leveraged exposure. In effect, MicroStrategy investors are betting the company can more than double their exposure to Bitcoin over time without facing a catastrophic event. Potential investors in Twenty One are expecting even better increases in Bitcoin per share, as CEO Jack Mallers put it. While the potential returns are great if Bitcoin’s price appreciation remains stable, the risks from volatility are very high. And if there’s one thing investors should know about Bitcoin, it’s that it has a tendency to provide highly volatile returns. As such, paying such a high premium above the net asset value of its treasury holdings seems like a poor use of funds. While I’m bullish on Bitcoin, there are better options to invest in the already risky asset without taking on undue risk created by leverage. 15. Visby Corvettes and Gotland Submarines Visby Corvettes and Gotland Submarines Sweden favors stealth over brute force—and nowhere is that more apparent than in its two naval marvels: the Visby-class corvette and the Gotland-class submarine. Engineered for one of the most complex maritime environments in the world, these platforms embody the Swedish Navy’s philosophy of striking silently, surviving unpredictably, and defending decisively. The Visby-class corvette is one of the most radar-evading warships ever built. Its angular, carbon-fiber hull dramatically reduces its radar cross-section, while integrated weapons and sensors help it operate undetected in littoral zones. Despite its sleek profile, the Visby is packed with anti-submarine, anti-ship, and mine warfare capabilities—tailored for the Baltic’s tight, shallow waters. Beneath the surface, the Gotland-class submarine is a master of silent operations. It was the first operational sub to feature air-independent propulsion (AIP), allowing it to remain submerged for weeks without surfacing. Its quiet diesel-electric engines and stealthy profile once allowed it to “sink” a U.S. aircraft carrier during a training exercise—without ever being detected. Together, the Visby and Gotland represent a highly strategic blend of innovation and geography. They’re not built to dominate oceans—they’re built to disappear in narrow seas and reappear with deadly precision. Quiet, agile, and nearly invisible—this is Sweden’s naval edge. 17. Alvarez is undisputed super middleweight champion again Alvarez is undisputed super middleweight champion again Canelo Alvarez has beaten William Scull in a unanimous points decision to become boxing’s undisputed super middleweight champion again. Alvarez is a four-weight world champion and entered Sunday’s fight in Riyadh with the WBA, WBC and WBO titles at 168 pounds. He was stripped of the IBF belt last July when he declined to make a mandatory defence against Scull. He’d owned that title since November 2021 when he defeated Caleb Plant. Alvarez became an undisputed titlist in the division for the second time when the judges scored their fight 115-113, 116-112, 119-109. The 34-year-old ******** champion improved to 63-2-2, with 39 knockouts, and is unbeaten in 10 fights in the super middleweight category. The fight against IBF champion Scull didn’t live up to the hype. The Cuba-born Scull entered unbeaten in 23 professional fights. He constantly moved around, dodging, shuffling and frustrating Alvarez, who later said he hated fighting that style of boxer. Moments after the decision was declared, the promotion for a proposed September 12 fight between Alvarez and Terence Crawford began, with both men facing each other in the ring. Alvarez was fighting outside the US or Mexico for the first time and had to make plenty of adjustments, including to the time zone. The fighters walked into the ring and the anthems started around 6.20am local time for the main bout in Riyadh, timed so it was in prime time on the US West Coast. The opening rounds were slow with both boxers feeling for range and the intensity gradually lifted with Scull throwing many more punches but not landing enough. Alvarez, by contrast, stayed patient and was landing body shots. In the end, Alvarez threw almost half as many punches as Scull (152-293) but landed one more (56-55), predominantly power shots to the body. “It’s OK, we won. We’re here with the title as the champion,” Alvarez said, adding that neither the timing of the bout nor the quality of the contest was a problem because he’d plenty of time to prepare. “I’m a champion. I’m a professional, so that’s all, no excuse or anything.” As for the September showdown against Crawford, who will be stepping up a weight to take on Alvarez? “I feel great. Crawford is one of the best out there and, you know, I like to share the ring with that kind of fighter,” he said. “It’s my pleasure.” Crawford was in the crowd watching in the Saudi capital. “I’m feeling great. I’m feeling blessed. Things happen for a reason, and there’s a reason why I’m here,” he said. “In September I’m showing the world what greatness look like.” Source link #Alvarez #undisputed #super #middleweight #champion Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content]

  22. Cory Sandhagen stops Deiveson Figueiredo in 2nd round Cory Sandhagen stops Deiveson Figueiredo in 2nd round Bantamweight Cory Sandhagen has beaten Deiveson Figueiredo in unexpected fashion in their MMA bout, forcing the former two-time flyweight champion to submit due to injury to his left knee after a leg lock gone wrong. Round 1 of the top-five main event at Saturday’s UFC Fight Night was all Sandhagen. He took Figueiredo to the ground and overwhelmed him with strikes while not allowing Figueiredo to get comfortable. The fight was over at 4:08 of round 2. Sandhagen (18-5 MMA) called for a title shot later this year, noting beating someone of Figueiredo’s calibre greatly increased his credibility. Figueiredo (24-5-1) goes back to the drawing board. “I want the winner,” Sandhagen said, as he plans to keep tabs on the UFC 316 main event between bantamweights Merab Dvalishvilli and Sean O’Malley on June 7 in Newark. In the co-main event, former ONE Championship star Reinier de Ridder handed former Penn State wrestling standout Bo Nickal his first loss in MMA, earning a second-round TKO. Middleweight de Ridder (20-2) used a wide-ranging combination and a plethora of knees to finish Nickal (7-1) at 1:53. Welterweight Daniel Rodriguez got the last laugh over Santiago Ponzinibbio, earning a third-round KO in a back-and-forth affair that had spectators on their feet. Rodriguez (19-5) gave respect to Ponzinibbio (31-9) and is seeking to remain active for the rest of the year. Bantamweight Montel Jackson had little issue defeating Daniel Marcos, securing a unanimous decision by 30-27 on all three judges’ scorecards. Jackson (15-2) handed Marcos his first loss in 18 fights, while Jackson has won six in a row and showcased a well-rounded skillset with constant pressure in Rounds 2 and 3. 24. 3 No-Brainer Gold Stocks to Buy Right Now 3 No-Brainer Gold Stocks to Buy Right Now Gold is trading near all-time highs, resulting in it receiving much attention from investors. Newmont and AngloGold Ashanti are leading gold mining companies. The VanEck Gold Miners ETF is a great option for cautious investors who are uninterested in assuming the risks of a single gold mining company. While rare earth minerals and other critical minerals have recently become flashpoints in the escalating trade war between the United States and China, gold has also remained at the top of investors’ minds. But for those interested in becoming gold bugs themselves, where is there to turn? Instead of bulking up on bullion, investors would be wise to consider clicking the buy button on Newmont Mining (NYSE: NEM), AngloGold Ashanti (NYSE: AU), and the VanEck Gold Miners ETF (NYSEMKT: GDX). Where to invest $1,000 right now? Our analyst team just revealed what they believe are the 10 best stocks to buy right now. Continue » Newmont Mining is the only gold mining stock included in the S&P 500. It’s the largest gold stock by market cap available on major U.S. exchanges, helping to make it a glittering choice for those interested in a more conservative gold investment. In addition to North and South America, Newmont operates assets in Australia, Africa, and Papua New Guinea. While some gold companies rely heavily on leverage to fund their various mining operations, Newmont has an investment-grade balance sheet thanks, in part, to its retiring of $1.4 billion in debt in 2024. Moreover, as of the end of first-quarter 2025, Newmont had a net debt-to-earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) ratio of 0.3. Newmont has numerous growth projects in its pipeline to ensure it continues producing plenty of the yellow metal in years to come. NEM Free Cash Flow (Quarterly) data by YCharts. With the company generating strong free cash flow during this ******* of high gold prices, it seems likely that the company will be able to fund these projects with organic cash instead of relying on debt or issuing equity to raise capital in the near future. For the most part, those looking to supplement their passive income streams are rushing to gold stocks. Because gold producing operations and activities to identify new resources are incredibly capital-intensive, businesses will often retain the cash they generate to fund future growth. But not AngloGold Ashanti. Instead, the company — whose stock offers an alluring 3.5% forward yield — is dedicated to returning capital to shareholders in addition to maintaining its financial health. Story Continues The company’s recently revised dividend policy targets a base quarterly dividend of $0.125 per share. Additional dividend payments will also be made so that the company is returning about 50% of free cash flow to shareholders in total. All this comes under the condition that the company maintains a net debt-to-adjusted EBITDA ratio under 1.0. AngloGold Ashanti reported $942 million in free cash flow for 2024 — a year-over-year improvement of 764%. With the company projecting gold production of 2.9 million to 3.225 million ounces for 2025 and 2026 and gold prices remaining high, the future looks bright for AngloGold Ashanti. Risk-averse investors may find an exchange-traded fund (ETF) a more appealing way to gain gold exposure. For these individuals, the VanEck Gold Miners ETF presents a great opportunity. Unlike the risks that investors assume with buying shares of a single mining company, the VanEck Gold Miners ETF mitigates the potential downside of a single company, thanks to the 63 holdings in the fund. As of the end of March, Agnico Eagle Mines and Newmont represented the two largest positions, each with weightings of about 11.6%. Royalty and streaming companies — businesses that act as specialized financiers providing upfront financing to mining companies in exchange for things like a portion of the mined metal — also figure prominently in the fund. Leading royalty and streaming companies Wheaton Precious Metals and Franco-Nevada Corporation are the third and fifth largest holdings in the ETF. The VanEck Gold Miners ETF has a 0.51% net expense ratio, but it’s important to note that the distributions, made annually, help to defray the management costs. As of this writing, the ETF had a 12-month yield of 0.82%. While investors eager to boost their passive income streams with the help of the yellow metal will find AngloGold Ashanti to be a lustrous opportunity, those looking for a bargain will be more drawn to Newmont, which is trading at a discount to its historical valuation. It has a five-year average operating cash flow multiple of 9.7, but it’s now changing hands at 7.6 times operating cash flow. On the other hand, those who are more circumspect in their approach to a gold investment will want to dig deeper into the VanEck Gold Miners ETF, which brands itself as the “nation’s first gold miners ETF.” Before you buy stock in Newmont, consider this: The Motley Fool Stock Advisor analyst team just identified what they believe are the 10 best stocks for investors to buy now… and Newmont wasn’t one of them.
