Russia’s Medvedev says nobody can guarantee Kyiv’s safety if Ukraine attacks Moscow on May 9
MOSCOW (Reuters) – Dmitry Medvedev, deputy chairman of Russia’s Security Council, said on Saturday that nobody could guarantee that the Ukrainian capital of Kyiv would survive to see May 10 if Ukraine attacked Moscow during World War Two victory celebrations on May 9.
Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday declared a three-day ceasefire in May in the war with Ukraine to mark the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Soviet Union and its allies in World War Two.
The Kremlin said the 72-hour ceasefire would run on May 8, May 9 – when Putin will host international leaders including ******** President Xi Jinping for celebrations to commemorate victory over Nazi Germany – and May 10.
Responding to Moscow’s offer of the three-day ceasefire, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said he was ready as long as the ceasefire would be 30 days in length, something Putin had already ruled out in the near term, saying he wants a long-term settlement not a brief pause.
Zelenskiy said Ukraine, given the continued war with Russia, could not guarantee the safety of any foreign dignitaries who came to Moscow for the traditional May 9 victory parade.
“We cannot be responsible for what happens on the territory of the Russian Federation. They are responsible for your security, and therefore we will not give you any guarantees,” he said.
Medvedev, a former Russian president who has emerged as one of Moscow’s most outspoken anti-Western hawks since the start of Russia’s war in Ukraine, called Zelenskiy’s statement a “verbal provocation” and said nobody had asked for Kyiv’s security guarantees for the May 9 events.
“(Zelenskiy) understands that in the event of a real provocation on Victory Day, nobody will be able to guarantee that Kyiv will live to see May 10,” Medvedev said on his official Telegram channel.

De’Longhi Magnifica Evo Next espresso machine review: a competent performer that requires a little learning to master
De’Longhi Magnifica Evo Next espresso machine review: a competent performer that requires a little learning to master
Why you can trust TechRadar
We spend hours testing every product or service we review, so you can be sure you’re buying the best. Find out more about how we test.
De’Longhi Magnifica Evo Next: Two-minute review
The De’Longhi Magnifica Evo Next is an upgraded version of the Magnifica Evo we reviewed back in 2021, further expanding the Italian brand’s range of Magnifica automatic bean-to-cup coffee machines. As a brewer of coffee, it’s excellent, delivering a delicious espresso with a lovely crema.
It can make a comprehensive selection of coffee-based drinks, each of which can be personalized and saved to profiles to ensure you get your perfect cuppa each and every time. It also uses De’Longhi’s LatteCrema milk frothing technology for making cappuccinos, macchiatos and other milk-based coffee drinks. But, despite an increasing percentage of the world’s population turning to plant-based milks, there aren’t any separate profiles for these dairy alternatives.
Day-to-day use of the Evo Next should be simple for most people, particularly those who are familiar with how fully automatic coffee machines work, although anyone new to coffee making might have to overcome a steep learning curve to get to grips with it. I was coming to the Evo Next as a user of either Nespresso pod machines or manual espresso machines, so it took me a few uses to figure out exactly how to extract the best from the Evo Next. If you’re in a similar position or have never used an automatic bean-to-cup machine before, let it be known you’re likely going to pour a few bitter espressos before you find your ideal cuppa.
You may like
The combination of the machine’s clearly laid-out buttons and bright, colorful display, however, made navigating through menus and settings a piece of cake. The only setting that did cause me some initial trouble was adjusting the grinder. I assumed I could adjust it whenever I wanted, but De’Longhi says it should only be moved when it’s in motion, which is counter to previous machines I’ve tested. I would have liked this instruction to have been a bit clearer. I also think the user manual could be a little clearer with regard to the effect changing the grind setting even just one increment can make on the resulting espresso. Those well-versed in coffee machines will likely already know this, but newcomers may struggle.
It’s not the smallest nor the quietest automatic coffee machine ever, nor is it even the quickest to pour an espresso shot, but once you’ve learned your way around it, the results and generous selection of available drink choices go some way to making up for these foibles, putting in contention with the best bean-to-cup coffee machines currently available.
Also helping its cause to be your next coffee machine is its low cost in comparison to similar models from other brands – although, perhaps not in the US at the time of writing.
De’Longhi Magnifica Evo Next review: Price & availability
List price $999.95 / £499.99 / AU$1,149
Cheaper than comparable competitor models
Can already be found with discounts
The price of the De’Longhi Magnifica Evo Next varies across the globe. In the ***, its list price is £499.99, in Australia it costs AU$1,149, but in the US it’s more expensive than a currency conversion or tariffs would suggest at $999.95.
It’s not the first time we’ve seen an inflated price for US customers, with the De’Longhi Eletta Explore – also an automatic coffee machine – priced higher in the US than its *** and *********** equivalents would suggest, and that’s from long before any tariff announcements were made.
When compared to the similarly specced KitchenAid KF6 ($1,199 / £1,299 / AU$1,799) though, the Magnifica Evo Next still represents remarkable value. The KF6 is much quieter in use and offers some extra maintenance features akin to professional espresso machines, but doesn’t include a milk carafe as standard, instead leaving you to place a tube into a jug or cup (or pony up for the official optional one).

De’Longhi Magnifica Evo Next review: Design
Side water tank for easier refilling
Color display helps with navigation and setting changes
Space needed above for pouring coffee beans
The De’Longhi Magnifica Evo Next is a smart-looking coffee machine in a matte silver-and-****** colourway. It’s the same size as other models in the Magnifica Evo range, including the Magnifica Evo, at 44 x 36 x 24cm (W x D x H), making it pretty big by espresso machine standards. I had it set up next to my trusted Nespresso Vertuo Pop pod coffee machine throughout the testing process and the difference in size was, well, sizeable, even on my relatively large kitchen counter. You will, therefore, need to make sure you have the space on your countertop to accommodate it.
The De’Longhi Magnifica Evo Next is significantly larger than the Nespresso Vertuo Pop. (Image credit: Future / Max Langridge)
As with other models in the series, the beans container is on the top, so you’ll need to allow for a bit of extra space above to comfortably pour in coffee beans. With wall-mounted cabinets sitting directly above the machine in my setup, there was just enough clearance to pour a 1kg bag into the hopper. Ultimately though, as the machine’s hopper isn’t airtight, I settled on storing my coffee beans in a separate container and scooping them in as needed. If you’re only making a few (or less) coffees a day, I’d recommend putting in just enough for each use to preserve freshness.
There is also a small chute that accepts ground coffee, if you don’t have access to whole beans – although freshly ground beans make such a huge difference that using pre-ground with a machine of this caliber is, frankly, a huge waste.
A manual control wheel for the 13 grinder settings is nestled within the beans container. It’s labelled 1 to 7 – 1 being the finest and 7 the coarsest – with increments going up by 0.5 in between. De’Longhi says the default setting of 5 should be fine for most users, but if you want to adjust the grind setting, you should only do so when the machine is grinding to avoid damage to the burrs. De’Longhi adds that you should pour at least two coffees after you’ve made any changes to make sure that they’ve taken effect.
This, coupled with the five intensity settings available for each drink (which I’ll talk about more in the performance section), can make finding the perfect combination for your own tastes quite tricky and will likely require some experimentation during your first few days of use.

If you want a home espresso machine that reduces the grinding guesswork, the De’Longhi La Specialista Touch’s Bean Adapt Technology system recommends ideal settings based on your chosen drink, although the machine on the whole requires more manual input than the Evo Next.
I experimented a fair amount with grind settings and found that when I had it set to the finest setting of 1, the machine wasn’t able to pour coffee. Instead it displayed an error message and then dumped out the ground coffee into the internal waste container. Returning the dial to its default setting of 5 gave me much better results.
Coffee is poured from two nozzles that can be physically raised or lowered to accommodate a variety of cup or mug heights, and it can be used to pour two espresso shots at once. The drip tray that sits underneath your cup(s) slides out smoothly, and also pulls out the separate internal waste bin where used coffee pucks are collected.

The Magnifica Evo Next comes with a large 60.9 fl oz / 1.8L water tank on its right-hand side, and slides in and out of the front of the machine like a book from a bookcase. This makes refilling the tank incredibly easy when compared to models from other brands that put the tank on the rear of the machine.
However, I have also used manual coffee machines such as the Sage/Breville Oracle Jet which has an integrated water tank that you simply fill up using a jug of water via a hole in the top at the front, a method I ultimately prefer.
De’Longhi also supplies a water hardness testing strip so you can determine which water hardness setting to choose during the initial setup, as well as a water filter that screws into the bottom of the tank.
The Magnifica Evo Next comes with both a hot water spout and a 9.4 fl oz / 280ml milk carafe to froth milk using the company’s LatteCrema system. Both of these attach to a small connection slot on the front left of the machine, and you can only use one at a time. If you want to make a milk-based drink or a tea, for example, you’ll need to factor in time to swap the attachments around.
The milk carafe and its various parts are easy to remove and clean. They’re dishwasher safe, too, to make things even easier.

You control the machine via an array of soft-touch buttons along the top, each of which has a symbol for a specific drink. There are also a couple of arrows that are used to adjust the size and intensity of your drink and an OK button to confirm your selections.
If you want to customize a drink, your options are extensive. Not only can you set a preferred intensity, but you can override the standard volumes poured for each style and size of coffee, including milk. This feature is accessed by pressing the ‘my’ button on the touch panel, and allows for three user profiles per drink.
When creating a custom profile, the machine will begin and continue pouring coffee until you tell it to stop when it reaches the desired level. The same goes for milk. With your settings saved, the next time you come to make the same drink, you’ll see ‘my’ listed next to the size. Press OK and the Evo Next will pour to your exact specifications.

Your selections are displayed on a clear, central 2.4-inch TFT screen that provides a good range of information, including color images of what your coffee can expect to look like once it’s finished pouring. It also gives you remarkably polite written feedback, including telling you you’re becoming a pro after you’ve poured a large number of drinks.
As I’m based in Australia, I found some of the De’Longhi Magnifica Evo Next’s drink names slightly unfamiliar, as they reflect the brand’s Italian heritage. For instance, my usual choice of a flat white isn’t a standard Italian coffee and so isn’t an option. The closest alternative available is the Cappuccino Mix, which provides frothed milk, though it’s less foamy than a traditional cappuccino.
De’Longhi Magnifica Evo Next review: Performance
Extensive selection of customization options
Delicious espresso with good crema
Noisy in use
As I’ve already mentioned, the De’Longhi Magnifica Evo Next will consistently produce great-tasting coffee, but only after you’ve figured out which settings are best for you. I experimented a fair amount with grind and intensity settings – initially with poor, unusable results – but once I found the best settings for my taste, there was no stopping me from making excellent coffee after coffee.
(Image credit: Future / Max Langridge)
I was happy with the thickness of the crema produced, and I think it will suit most coffee drinkers. If, however, you like a particularly thick crema on your espresso or coffee, then you may want to check out the KitchenAid KF6 instead.
The Magnifica Evo Next can make 11 different coffee-based drinks, each with its own options for customization, such as the strength, temperature and volume. The options offered are:
• Espresso • Cappuccino/Cappucino+ • Coffee • Long • Americano • Doppio/Doppio+ • Latte Macchiato • Cappuccino Mix • Espresso Macchiato
You can also dispense hot water and hot milk from the machine; however, unlike some other newer espresso machines we’ve tested, there’s no option for cold brewing.
During my testing, I found the default settings for my preferred cappuccino mix drink weren’t as strong as I would have liked – the intensity was set to 3, on a scale of 1 to 5. I had to increase it to the maximum 5 and this returned a much more flavorful brew.
The higher intensity setting refers to the fact that more beans are ground and packed into the internal puck, resulting in a stronger, more potent espresso.
There aren’t any settings to adjust the foam level or milk temperature, although the type of milk you use will dictate the level of foam returned. For example, I drink oat milk in my coffees and found that attempting to use standard (i.e. non-barista) oat milk produced disappointing results.
That’s not to say the results weren’t foamy – in fact I was impressed with what the Evo Next could muster – but it produced a thicker foam when I switched to a barista brand with higher **** content.
While I’m quite easygoing when it comes to milk, users who are particular will likely need to experiment with different milk types and brands yo achieve the desired results.
I was less enthused with the way the milk comes out the spout, though. It’s more a ‘***** out’ than a ‘flow out’ – not something I’d expect from a more premium machine like this.
(Image credit: Future / Max Langridge)
For time-conscious coffee drinkers, you’ll want to know that pouring an espresso at intensity level 5 – which grinds the largest amount of beans – took around 40 seconds. Larger drinks, such as my cappuccino mix, took longer at nearly 1 min 30 seconds, including dispensing milk. This time is on par with the Magnifica Evo automatic coffee machine, but there are faster machines that are cheaper, so it’s a slight shame that De’Longhi hasn’t been able to speed up the brew time with this model. If you want your coffee fast, a Nespresso machine can cut those times down considerably – my Vertuo Pop, for example, takes around 30 seconds to pour a 150ml pod.
I also found the Magnifica Evo Next quite noisy in use. It bothered me so much that I took a reading with the Decibel X app on my phone and, when placed next to the machine, it reached 82dB when grinding beans (nearly 20dB louder than the Quiet Mark-certified KitchenAid KF6), 72dB when tamping and emptying the coffee puck, and 66dB when pouring a coffee.
(Image credit: Future / Max Langridge)
Where the Magnifica Evo Next makes less of a fuss is maintenance. After each milk-based drink, the machine asks you to run a quick-rinse cycle, which uses water from the tank to flush any buildup from the carafe’s spout. You’ll also be notified on the display when it’s time to empty the drip tray and grounds container.
For more thorough cleaning, a dedicated Maintenance menu can be found in the settings, with options to run water through the machine to rinse it and run a descaling cycle (the machine will let you know if a descaling is necessary). You can also check the status of the water filter, run a more thorough cycle for the milk carafe when it’s connected, and drain any water from the system if you’re planning to transport it.
Finally, a panel on the right-hand side of the machine, accessible when you remove the water container, houses the brewing unit. This detaches easily with a pinch of the two red-colored clips and can be run under a tap to remove any buildup of coffee.

De’Longhi Magnifica Evo Next: How I tested
I used the De’Longhi Magnifica Evo Next at home with the same supermarket-brand coffee beans that we use in the TechRadar Australia office (in a Breville Oracle Jet), so I’m already familiar with the flavor. I followed the setup instructions by first testing the water hardness (hard) and configured the machine accordingly, which included needing to insert the supplied water filter.
I used the machine to pour a variety of the available drinks to assess the crema, flavor and time required. I also used the LatteCrema carafe to froth fridge-cold oat milk, of both the barista and non-barista varieties.

Google May Introduce New Samsung DeX-Style Desktop Experience for Phones with Android 16
Google May Introduce New Samsung DeX-Style Desktop Experience for Phones with Android 16
Google is said to be developing a new desktop experience for its Android phones. As per a new report, the latest Android 16 beta update adds a new developer option, dubbed “Enable desktop experience features”, that brings the familiar Android taskbar, the three-button navigation access, and other options when a Pixel running the aforementioned beta is connected to a laptop. The company is speculated to be working on a more desktop-oriented experience for its phones and tablets in a bid to keep up with competitors such as Samsung, which offers DeX — short for “Desktop eXperience”.
Desktop Experience with Android 16
According to an Android Authority report, the new addition was discovered in the developer options of the latest Android 16 Beta 4 update running on the Google Pixel 8 Pro. It is stated to “enable desktop windowing on secondary displays”. Although the functionality isn’t officially available, the publication managed to activate it. Once the Pixel device is connected to an external display such as a laptop, the Android taskbar, status bar, and the three-button navigation menu appears.
Photo Credit: Mishaal Rahman/ Android Authority
The taskbar carries pinned apps, such as Phone, Messages, Camera, Google Chrome, along with the app drawer. When in desktop mode, it can also display recent apps, potentially delivering improved multitasking capabilities.
The new functionality makes it possible to launch several apps in floating windows at once, as per the report. And similar to the Windows experience, users may also be able to move them around, resize them, or align them to the side. Further, it also allows for easy transfer of content using drag and drop.
As per the report, the new desktop experience in Android 16 could be a modified version of the desktop windowing feature which was introduced for the Pixel tablet with the release of Android 15 QPR1 Beta 2 in September last year. While this specific feature only supported built-in displays, Google may have tweaked it to support phones connected to external screens too, the report speculates.

Apple Said to Switch to Staggered Release Schedule for iPhone 18 Series, Foldable iPhone
Apple Said to Switch to Staggered Release Schedule for iPhone 18 Series, Foldable iPhone
Apple’s iPhone 17 series, expected to arrive in September as the successors to the iPhone 16 lineup, and details of next year’s purported iPhone 18 lineup has already leaked online. The iPhone 18 series of smartphones have been tipped to debut with more RAM and advanced chips. Now, a new report suggests that the Cupertino tech giant could switch up its plans for the release of its upcoming iPhone models, starting in 2026. A few handsets in the iPhone 18 lineup may launch as usual around September 2026, while others may get pushed to the following year.
iPhone 18 Lineup Release Strategy
The Information reports that Apple is considering a staggered release for the iPhone 18 series of smartphones. Citing unnamed sources, the publication claims that the company is expected to launch the premium iPhone 18 models, including the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max and iPhone 18 Air variants in fall 2026.
Apple typically introduces new iPhone models around the same time over the past few years. From 2026, however, the company may not unveil all the handsets in the series in one go. The standard iPhone 18 model and an iPhone 18e variant are expected to arrive in markets by spring 2027 (around March or April 2027).
The base iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e will reportedly undergo manufacturing trials in India. This is said to be due to Apple’s efforts to lessen its manufacturing dependency on China.
This shift in strategy could be attributed to a number of reasons. As per the report, Apple is expected to introduce a foldable smartphone, alongside the Pro and Air versions, in 2026. The staggered release plans may help boost the sales of the upcoming iPhones as well. It will likely help the company better allocate resources, as the number of manufacturing workers Apple would need at one time will decrease.
Previous leaks suggested that Apple may use 2nm TSMC chipsets in the iPhone 18 phones. All handsets in the lineup are expected to arrive with 12GB of RAM. The iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max could also come with a hole-punch style camera cutout instead of the Dynamic Island, as Apple reportedly prepares to launch an iPhone with an all-screen display.

Letitia James is hunting for insider trading in Trump’s inner circle. Ex-prosecutors call her tariff inquiry unprecedented.
Letitia James is hunting for insider trading in Trump’s inner circle. Ex-prosecutors call her tariff inquiry unprecedented.
Letitia James is continuing to look for possible insider trading in Trump’s inner circle.
The NY attorney general’s inquiry centers on Trump’s markets-roiling flip-flops on tariffs.
Former AG prosecutors say James’ inquiry is an unprecedented use of NY’s century-old Martin Act.
New York’s Letitia James is easily the most aggressive state attorney general in the country when it comes to suing President Donald Trump.
She’s on the front lines of 15 legal actions brought by coalitions of Democratic AGs, all seeking to block executive orders and DOGE cuts, Her $454 million fraud verdict against Trump and his real estate company remains on appeal in Manhattan.
But James’ most daring excursion into Trumpworld may be one she has yet to formally announce.
It’s an ongoing inquiry into potential insider trading by the president’s inner circle, centered on last month’s markets-roiling tariff policies.
James’ so-called inquiry — the formal name for a kind of probe that falls short of a full-blown investigation — has rounded its second month, an AG spokesman confirmed to Business Insider, declining to divulge details beyond saying the office is “looking at” possible insider trading.
What would an inquiry involve? And, more importantly, what are its odds?
Business Insider asked a half-dozen legal experts, including three former high-level financial-fraud prosecutors from the New York AG’s office.
Opinions range wildly.
Some pointed to the perennial concerns over insider trading by members of Congress. They called James’ inquiry a proper, even necessary, exercise of the power vested in an attorney general whose Manhattan office sits three blocks north of the Stock Exchange.
Others called her inquiry a politically motivated boondoggle that’s doomed to fail. “This is a story of politics, not a story of law,” said Richard Epstein, a law professor at New York University.
But there was unanimity on two points. Proving insider trading is notoriously difficult. And whatever is happening behind the scenes is unprecedented.
“There’s been nothing like this,” said Manhattan attorney Armen Morian, a former financial crimes prosecutor for the New York AG’s office who helped defend Trump during James’ fraud case.
An 800-pound gorilla of a statute
The inquiry is empowered by New York’s Martin Act, a 104-year-old statute that gives state attorneys general extraordinary powers to police Wall Street.
Legal experts call the Martin Act the most powerful state securities-fraud law in the country. It allows the AG to issue subpoenas, grill suspects under oath, and file civil lawsuits or criminal charges.
In a 2018 essay, Epstein called the Martin Act “an 800-pound gorilla,” a term he said he still stands by.
It prosecutes securities and real estate frauds and is used only rarely for insider trading, which is the ******** profiting off of stock tips not available to the public.
Legal experts and three veterans of the AG’s office who have brought prosecutions under the Martin Act say they’ve never heard of it being used to investigate insider tips involving government policy, in this case, Trump’s on-and-off tariffs.
The novelty of James’ inquiry does not, in itself, doom her effort, said a former financial crimes prosecutor who asked not to be named, citing work constraints against speaking to the press.
“There is a body of Martin Act insider trading law — just not on these exact facts — that has been developed over decades,” the former prosecutor said. “And remember, the facts of every case are always novel.”
What is an AG inquiry, and how does it work?
An “inquiry” is what the New York AG’s office calls the earliest stage of a probe — before subpoenas go out, explained former Executive Attorney General Manisha M. Sheth. Now a partner at Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan, Sheth oversaw the AG’s Division of Economic Justice.
Securities inquiries can be sparked by whistleblower tips or by allegations that surface publicly in the press or a lawsuit, she told ***.
They are handled by the state investor protection bureau, one of the six divisions Sheth once supervised, she said. There, prosecutors working with the AGs’ research analysts and data scientists would begin by reviewing raw trading data, she said. They’ll look for suspicious patterns.
Were there spikes in trading, for instance, on April 9, in the hours before Trump posted on Truth Social, “THIS IS A GREAT TIME TO BUY!!!” triggering a market upswing?
At some point, the bureau would send out a flutter of “inquiry letters,” authorized by the bureau’s chief or deputy chief and signed by the assistant attorney general handling the matter, Sheth said.
“Such letters can ask for documents, data, or information,” she said. “Sometimes the recipient of an inquiry letter may volunteer to meet with the office to provide the requested information.”
Cooperating at this early stage is completely voluntary. If a case advances to the point that subpoenas are issued, an inquiry will have graduated to an investigation, Sheth said.
“I do think it’s going to start with using trading data to show that no reasonable person would have engaged in these trades without that non-public information,” said Anthony Capozzolo, a former federal and state prosecutor.
“You’re going to want to, at the least, build an initial case that shows it’s very likely that the only motivating factor for these trades was this allegedly inside information.”

More roadblocks, these days, for gathering trading data
Compiling trading data will be tougher these days, predicted Capozzolo, a partner at Lewis Baach Kaufmann Middlemiss in Manhattan and a former federal and state-level prosecutor.
Pre-Trump, the AG would routinely and easily ask the Securities and Exchange Commission for trading data that’s not already publicly available.
“Now, the SEC is controlled by the Trump administration, and he could potentially instruct the SEC not to cooperate,” leading to a subpoena battle, Capozzolo predicted.
Identifying suspicious-seeming trading patterns is only the beginning, legal experts said.
Say, solely as a hypothetical, that a Trump insider reaped a small fortune by buying the dip in Apple stock right before Trump announced the tariff carve-out for electronics from China that sent the stock soaring.
That’s not enough to prove insider trading, legal experts said. For that, James would need witnesses willing to testify that specific investments were prompted by improper insider tips.
“They try to force people to tell them who was present in rooms,” Capozzolo said of prosecutors. “But the difficulty is a lot of these things may have happened in the presence of very upper-level Trump and MAGA acolytes.”
And anyone in Trump’s circle would certainly fight an inquiry letter or subpoena — and do so loudly.
“You’ll see an immediate challenge,” said Morian, who helped prosecute AIG CEO Hank Greenberg in the longest Martin Act case in the AG’s history.
“It’ll be lock and load. The minute any subpoena goes out, I would immediately intervene if I were in the Justice Department, and say ‘Nope. Can’t do it. Sorry.'”
Suing, charging, or subpoenaing Trump is a non-starter, given executive privilege and presidential immunity, which bars prosecution for official acts, Morian said. (He predicts presidential immunity would extend to civil cases as well someday, “If that ever gets to the Supreme Court.”)
State AG subpoenas issued to members of the executive branch — cabinet members and the like — could also be challenged on executive privilege grounds. And investigating the stock trades of members of Congress would result in challenges as well, Morian predicted.
“If you overreach too far, you could easily see a private litigant taking this up to the Supreme Court, and the Supreme Court limiting the jurisdiction of state attorneys general in ways we’ve never seen before,” he said.
James is being probed by the DOJ for alleged mortgage fraud, an allegation she has called baseless and which her attorney, Abbe Lowell, has called “improper political retribution,” according to CBS.
Should her insider-trading inquiry advance, James, a Democrat who campaigned for AG on a promise of investigating Trump, would herself would face accusations of political retribution and bias.
Over the years, Trump has decried James’ investigations into his finances and business as baseless, “racist,” and part of a “political witch hunt.” A Trump spokesperson did not immediately respond to a request for comment on James’ tariff-trade inquiry on Friday.
Then there is the inherent difficulty of proving insider trading — of teasing out any illegality from the chaos of sudden, trillion-dollar market swings.
“There’s a huge amount of market turmoil whenever there’s a major tariff initiative,” said Epstein.
How can anyone call it insider trading if thousands of investors are making similar trades for benign reasons, based on hunches, past experience, or dumb luck, he asked.
“When the markets are this volatile, people make and lose money second to second, for any number of reasons,” agreed Morian.
“There are so many contingent variables,” he added. “How do you discern the signal from the noise, to prove your case?”

Police continue to question Iranian men over alleged terror plot
Video shows counter-terrorism officers making an arrest
Five men are continuing to be questioned by police over an alleged terror plot in the ***.
The men, including four Iranian nationals, are being held over an alleged plan to “target a specific premises”, the Metropolitan Police said.
They were arrested in Swindon, west London, Stockport, Rochdale and Manchester.
Three other Iranian men were arrested in London on Saturday as part of a separate counter terrorism investigation.
As part of an investigation into an alleged terror plot police arrested the men – two aged 29, a 40-year-old and another aged 46 – in the early hours of Saturday morning. The fifth person’s nationality and age has not been confirmed.
Footage showed armed officers taking a man from a house in Rochdale, while another man was dragged through the street in Swindon with plastic bags over his arms.

Separately, the Met said three Iranian men – aged 39, 44 and 55 – were arrested under section 27 the National Security Act at addresses in north-west and west London, while searches continued.
The act covers offences deemed a threat to national security. Section 27 grants police the power to arrest someone without a warrant if they are reasonably suspected of being involved in “foreign power threat activity”.
Cdr Dominic Murphy, head of the Met’s Counter Terrorism Command, stressed that they were not linking the two investigations.
He said the operations were “certainly significant and it is unusual for us to conduct this scale of activity”.
Last year MI5 said it had responded to 20 Iran-backed plots since January 2022.
Director general Sir Ken McCallum, said these presented “potentially lethal threats to British citizens and *** residents”.

Apple Said to Be Working With Anthropic on AI-Powered Version of Xcode
Apple Said to Be Working With Anthropic on AI-Powered Version of Xcode
Apple is reportedly working with Anthropic to develop an artificial intelligence (AI) supported version of Xcode. The Cupertino-based tech giant’s integrated development environment (IDE) for developing software across all its platforms was upgraded with an AI coding companion dubbed Swift Assist last year. The company is now planning to integrate AI capabilities much more comprehensively, according to a Bloomberg report. The upgraded version of Xcode will be able to write, edit, and test code using AI, without requiring intervention from developers.
Apple Is Reportedly Planning an AI Upgrade for Xcode
Bloomberg reports that Apple is planning to release the AI-powered version of Xcode internally. Apple is reportedly yet to make a decision on whether to release the platform publicly. Citing unnamed people with knowledge of the matter, the report says that the new programming platform will integrate Anthropic’s Claude Sonnet model (the model version was not specified).
The new Xcode will be focused on “vibe coding”. The phrase was coined and popularised by Andrej Karpathy, Co-founder of OpenAI and former AI director at Tesla, in February. Vibe coding is essentially a new programming paradigm where developers describe what they want to build or code, and an AI model with a chat interface writes, edits, tests, and even deploys the code. With vibe coding, the role of a coder is essentially to focus on the vision for the final product.
According to the publication, Apple was apprehensive about using AI to make consumer-focused software. However, the company is reportedly considering the transition to improve internal workflow and speed up software development cycles.
Apple’s new programming platform reportedly comes with a chat interface where developers can type prompts about the code they want to write or any alterations they want to make. The platform is said to also feature a testing environment that can test user interfaces (UI), a process which the sources called “cumbersome when done manually.” The upgraded version of Xcode can reportedly also find and fix bugs in existing code.
The iPhone maker has teamed up with other firms over the past couple of years, in order to introduce new AI features on its products. It partnered with OpenAI to bring ChatGPT’s capabilities to Apple Intelligence, and is reportedly working on a deal to add support for Gemini to its devices. In China, the company is partnering with Baidu to power its suite of AI features.

I Wish Hidetaka Miyazaki Could Add 1 More Feature in Elden Ring Nightreign to Make It Game of the Year
I Wish Hidetaka Miyazaki Could Add 1 More Feature in Elden Ring Nightreign to Make It Game of the Year
The countdown to Elden Ring Nightreign has me checking my calendar daily—just 25 days until I can dive into Limveld with my fellow Nightfarers.
FromSoftware’s cooperative spinoff promises to deliver that signature punishing combat we all masochistically adore, but with a fresh roguelike twist that has fans genuinely excited.
Yet as I pore over every trailer and preview, something keeps nagging at me. For a game built around “cooperation,” there’s a glaring omission that feels like finding out your shiny new Greatsword has a hidden durability stat. It’s really the kind of thing that could be the difference between “great game” and “Game of the Year material.”
The Lands Between platforms
Here’s my situation: I’ve spent the last year upgrading my PC piece by piece (still waiting on that 9070 XT price drop), while my Discord folks have all pre-ordered Nightreign for their PS5s. Their aging rigs couldn’t handle the game in its full visual glory, and I haven’t owned a PlayStation since the PS2 era. See the problem?
Elden Ring Nightreign lacks crossplay functionality. This wall between platforms feels particularly cruel for a game designed specifically around co-op play. While PS5 players can team up with PS4 friends, and Xbox Series X/S users can join Xbox One players, each platform ecosystem remains isolated in its own digital realm—PC players can’t join console users, and PlayStation fans can’t adventure with their Xbox friends.
Director Junya Ishizaki confirmed this limitation in an interview with IGN, stating: “Similar to the original Elden Ring, there will be cross-generational play but not cross-platform play.” This decision is particularly puzzling given that the game emphasizes teamwork with its relic system and encroaching circle of fire mechanics.
I understand the technical challenges involved, but when games like Fortnite and Call of Duty have normalized crossplay, it feels like FromSoftware is leaving a critical feature on the cutting room floor. The game’s dynamic environments and roguelike progression would be perfect for bringing friends together, regardless of platform preference.
The 2025 GOTY battlefield just got wilder
The GOTY crown awaits its rightful owner. | Image Credit: FromSoftware
With Rockstar’s bombshell announcement that GTA 6 is delayed until May 2026, the Game of the Year race for 2025 has been blown wide open. What was once considered a near-certain lock for the crown is now completely out of the picture.
This leaves Elden Ring Nightreign in a fascinating position. Despite my grievances, FromSoftware‘s pedigree means it automatically enters the conversation. But the competition is absolutely fierce this year.
Indiana Jones and the Great Circle kicked off 2025’s GOTY contenders, with MachineGames proving they could do more than just Nazi-shooting simulators. Then February brought us a double-whammy of heavyweights: Kingdom Come: Deliverance II delivered on its medieval promise on the 4th, while Monster Hunter Wilds had fans all grinding for that perfect gear set when it dropped on the 28th.
March belonged to Hazelight Studios’ Split Fiction, which has maintained its 90+ Metacritic score since launching on the 6th. Josef Fares and team somehow managed to outdo their previous GOTY winner with a co-op experience that seamlessly (and oh so magically) blends sci-fi and fantasy worlds.
Parry this, GOTY contenders. | Image Credit: Sandfall Interactive
And now, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has taken the gaming world by storm since its late April release. This Belle Époque-inspired JRPG from Sandfall Interactive has already sold over a million copies in just three days, moving twice as fast as comparable titles on Steam. It’s the game everyone’s talking about right now, and for good reason.
Let’s not forget that Sucker Punch’s Ghost of Yōtei is still looming on the horizon for later this year. Following up the beloved Ghost of Tsushima with a new female protagonist in 1600s Northern Japan, it’s poised to be another PlayStation powerhouse.
With Doom: The Dark Ages dropping next week and more titles surely to come, Nightreign needs every advantage it can get. That’s why the lack of crossplay stings so much—it could be the one missing piece keeping an otherwise brilliant game from claiming the ultimate prize.
What do you think? Is crossplay a deal-breaker for you, or are you happy to play with whoever’s on your platform of choice? Let me know in the comments!

Is the Market Trusting the Fed or Hedging Against It?
Is the Market Trusting the Fed or Hedging Against It?
Is the market trusting the or fading it?
Last week offered a revealing look at how different sectors are interpreting the Federal Reserve’s tone.
With data showing a labor market cooling and still hovering above comfort levels, the Economic Modern Family serves as a lens to evaluate whether investors believe in the Fed’s soft-landing narrative—or are quietly hedging against it.
Transportation and Small Caps: Caught in the Crossfire
Transportation (): Price action improved, clearing the 200-week moving average. While concern over global demand and rising shipping/fuel costs remain, this week’s action was a lot better considering the worry that transport volume slows before summer.
Small Caps (): Clearing key support over the 200-WMA, IWM hasn’t confirmed a breakout—we need 2 weekly closes over that key MA. Should IWM falter from here, we will see that market caution toward economic growth and borrowing conditions for smaller businesses prevail.
On the Daily charts, IYT did not clear the 50-DMA while IWM did.
That proves that stress in transportation on a shorter timeframe still exists.
We are looking for 2 days’ confirmation. There is no divergence in momentum and price.
Interest-Rate Sensitive Sectors: Feeling the Heat
Regional (): Still trading below key moving averages, KRE reflects persistent concerns over tightening credit and a cautious lending environment. The lack of follow-through in this space underscores skepticism about financial stability amid elevated rates.
Retail (): Consumer strength, long a pillar of economic resilience, is beginning to show cracks. XRT’s rally this week suggests that the consumer is not as bad as one would think though households may be tightening wallets—a potential signal that rate hikes are indeed cooling demand.
On the Daily chart, we can see shorter-term enthusiasm.
KRE did get its first close over the 50-DMA. (Remember we need 2 closes). However, the momentum did not clear the 50-DMA.
Retail also cleared over the 50-DMA. While momentum is better, XRT continues to underperform the benchmark.
SMH and IBB: Divergence or Denial?
Semiconductors (): Still riding AI tailwinds, SMH remains a market leader, suggesting risk appetite is alive—at least in tech. But is this strength masking underlying fragility in other parts of the market?
The weekly chart, while in a better than phase than the other members of the Family, has yet to really impress. Close, but needs more.
Biotech (): IBB saw modest gains as investors began to sniff out value. With less direct correlation to interest rates, biotech may be quietly attracting capital as growth investors rotate out of rate-sensitive plays. However, IBB still lags as it has yet to take out the April highs.
On the Daily chart, SMH looks just like XRT, IWM, and IYT-not stronger or weaker in that it just cleared the 50-DMA and needs to confirm.
Momentum and leadership look good.
IBB though, like KRE, has yet to clear the 50-DMA. And it is underperforming the benchmark.
In the Economic Modern Family, we always look to see who is leading and lagging.
That IWM and IYT are now over their 200-WMAs means we have a guide. They must hold up.
Likewise, that KRE and XRT are lagging means we have a guide. They must hang in there and not roll over.
Is the Market Trusting the Fed… or Fading It?
Despite the Fed’s measured optimism, the Family could be on its way to a V recovery, but we need to see what happens this coming week.
Sectors exposed to credit and the consumer are still flashing yellow, while speculative growth remains the refuge of hope. This divergence poses a critical question for investors:
“Are we heading into a soft landing… or is this a setup for turbulence ahead?”
This week’s and continued earnings reports may provide more clarity—but until then, the Family is telling us not to get too comfortable.
