Federal investigators say a utility wasn’t marked before a deadly natural gas explosion in Missouri
LEXINGTON, Mo. (AP) — A deadly explosion that leveled one Missouri home and damaged two others happened after a subcontractor drilled into an unmarked underground gas main while installing fiber optic cable, the National Transportation Safety Board announced Monday.
One person was killed and two others were injured in the April 9 explosion in the 4,500-person town of Lexington, Missouri, which is about 55 miles (88.51 kilometers) west of downtown Kansas City.
Liberty Utilities, a subsidiary of Algonquin Power and Utilities Corporation, sent someone out to mark its lines before the subcontractor began digging, but the uncapped gas main section involved in the accident wasn’t identified, the NTSB said in its preliminary report.
A few hours before the explosion, the subcontractor felt their drill strike something and smelled odorized natural gas. The crew supervisor then called 911.
Firefighters and a crew with Liberty Utilities arrived and worked to stop the flow of gas. One business about 15 feet (4.57 meters) from the leak was evacuated. But several other nearby buildings were not evacuated, including the destroyed and damaged homes, which ranged from 80 feet to 160 feet (18.29 meters to 24.38 meters) from the leak, the NTSB said.
The NTSB said it continues to investigate the evacuation procedures and Liberty Utilities’ repair history, record keeping and emergency response. Algonquin Power & Utilities Corp. didn’t immediately respond to an email from The Associated Press seeking information.

Trump’s deportation promise hinges on GOP delivering megabill
Trump’s deportation promise hinges on GOP delivering megabill
President Donald Trump’s ability to accelerate his lagging deportations agenda hinges on congressional Republicans figuring out what they’re going to cut to pay for it.
White House border czar Tom Homan has pleaded with GOP lawmakers for more money for months as the White House has struggled to launch the mass deportation campaign the president promised. Top administration officials have been in close touch with the Hill about the figures they need to ramp up removals.
Republicans appear ready to give the White House more than officials have asked for. The House and Senate proposals would allow the committees that oversee immigration to spend between $200 billion and $350 billion — as Homan has projected the deportation effort would cost $86 billion to execute.
Republicans agree with the idea of plowing billions into the president’s No. 1 campaign pledge. But that money is out of reach, as lawmakers struggle to agree on cuts to pay for the huge increase in spending plus the extension of the tax breaks Trump signed into law during his last term.
A Department of Homeland Security memo last month warned House and Senate Republicans that failure to pass the legislation would “undo all the Trump Administration’s Massive Successes.” And the president’s budget outline released Friday further underscored where the White House is pressuring lawmakers to land: Trump called for a 65 percent increase in funding for border security and Immigration and Customs Enforcement, even as he’s seeking major cuts across the federal government.
“It’s No. 1 for those guys … what we want is what they want,” said House Homeland Security Chair Mark Green (R-Tenn.). “We all want to get this done … we’re going full speed.”
The funding would turbocharge ICE with an unprecedented influx of cash, allowing the Trump administration to hire thousands of more agents and expand detention capacity across the country. It would also flow to private contractors as the Trump administration looks to outsource some of the deportation process by helping track down migrants and detaining them in for-profit detention facilities.
Trump’s vow to quickly remove millions of undocumented immigrants from the country has faced a number of roadblocks. The administration has run up against a bogged-down immigration court system as well as challenges with detention space and staffing, spreading ICE agents thin as they work to deport 1 million undocumented immigrants this year — four times as many as last year.
“We should understand that until they have that money and can start to spend that money, no one should really think that they can start raising the deportation numbers that much,” said Michael Kagan, director of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas Immigration Clinic. “They need that money, and that is the first step for expanding detention space.”
The House GOP proposal recommends tens of billions of dollars for detention facilities and the hiring and retention of immigration enforcement personnel — paving the way for the kind of historic crackdown immigration hardliners have long pushed for.
“You’re going to be able to build a wall. You’re going to have detention facilities, deportation, all of that stuff,” said Michael Hough, director of federal relations at NumbersUSA, a group that works to reduce both legal and ******** immigration. “This would be huge, historic.”
ICE says it has deported roughly 65,700 immigrants since Trump took office, though the deportation numbers have been questioned by experts. The agency has reported 66,500 arrests since January, claiming that three of four were undocumented immigrants with criminal records.
So far this year, the Trump administration’s monthly deportation pace has been lower than that of the Biden administration at the same time last year. That’s in part because it’s easier to deport people arrested at the border than those apprehended inside the country, and the number of people crossing the border has continued to plummet since Trump took office.
“They’ve had tremendous success in securing the border. We just want to make sure they can continue to do that,” said House Judiciary Chair Jim Jordan (R-Ohio).
But more money won’t resolve all of Trump’s challenges — and “arresting and detaining more people” does not automatically result in more removals, said Deborah Fleischaker, former acting chief of staff for ICE during the Biden administration. Home countries of many migrants — especially those who committed crimes — don’t always want to take them back. That’s part of the reason the Trump administration has entered a deal with El Salvador to accept deportees from the U.S. and is now in talks with other countries in addition.
It also takes time and resources to hire, vet and train more agents, and new detention facilities won’t be up and running overnight. The president’s rhetoric has spurred fear across communities, with many immigrants seeking legal aid and going into hiding.
“We’re a long ways away from 100,000 beds and a million removals. A million removals, that’s like 30,000 removals a week,” said an ICE official, granted anonymity to speak candidly. During “the previous three administrations, the removal stats were juiced because of all the people crossing the border. A million removals from the interior requires a million arrests. And now everyone is actively hiding and thwarting us.”
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has set an ambitious July 4 deadline for the passage of the GOP megabill, which they hope to enact via fast-track budget procedures that will allow them to sidestep a Democratic filibuster. A number of committees are still hammering out their plans, including politically complicated cuts to Medicaid, and the House and Senate will need to reach a consensus on their proposals.
The House Judiciary Committee proposed raising revenue via a host of new fees on those who apply through the legal immigration system, including a first-of-its-kind minimum $1,000 fee for asylum seekers and $3,500 fee for sponsors of unaccompanied children.
Democrats, for their part, have virtually no means to block the bill’s passage, assuming the GOP can stay aligned.
But unlike Trump’s first term, during which a border wall funding fight prompted the longest-ever government shutdown, Democrats have so far not focused on the immigration and border provisions in their attacks on the bill. Instead they are spotlighting the potential cuts to government programs. During a committee markup, Democrats on the House Homeland Security Committee were largely silent about the tens of billions of dollars the committee’s bill allocates for the border wall system.

Israel hits Houthi targets in Yemen in response to airport attack
Israel hits Houthi targets in Yemen in response to airport attack
Israel’s military says it has hit Houthi targets in Yemen in response to the group’s missile launch at Israel’s Ben Gurion airport the previous day.
The IDF said it attacked sites that it claimed served as a “central supply source for the Houthis” in the Hudaydah Port, as well as the Bajil cement factory east of the city of Hudaydah.
Following Sunday’s airport strike, the Houthis said they would impose “a comprehensive aerial blockade” on Israel by targeting airports in response to Israel’s plans to expand operations in Gaza.
The Iran-backed group said 21 people were injured in Monday’s attack, and described it as a joint raid of “US-Israeli aggression”. The US denied involvement.
The IDF said its Monday strikes were “conducted precisely, with measures taken to mitigate harm to vessels docked at the port”.
It claimed the Bajil factory functioned as a “significant economic resource”, and was used by the group to construct tunnels and infrastructure, while the port sites were used “for the transfer of Iranian weapons”.
The port is the second-largest in the Red Sea after Aden, and is the entry point for about 80% of Yemen’s food imports.
Multiple residents told Reuters news agency that more than 10 strikes targeted Hudaydah Port and the al-Salakhanah and al-Hawak areas in the city, while four more targeted the cement factory.
A spokesman for the Houthi-run health ministry, Anees al-Asbahi, said at least 21 people were injured in the attack.
The Houthis blamed the US and Israel jointly for the attack. A US defence official told the AFP news agency that their forces “did not participate in the Israeli strikes on Yemen today”.
Former US president Joe Biden’s administration approved US strikes on the Houthis, which has continued under Donald Trump, the current president.
Last month, the Houthis said at least 68 African migrants were killed in a US air strike on a detention centre in north-western Yemen.
The attack on Ben Gurion airport on Sunday morning landed near the main terminal. Four people were injured by the blast, with another two injured on their way to a shelter, Israeli emergency services said.
Benjamin Netanyahu, Israel’s prime minister, threatened retaliation, saying: “We attacked in the past, we will attack in the future.”
On social media, he also warned that Israel would respond to Iran at “a time and place of our choosing”.
Iran said the airport attack was an “independent decision” by the Yemeni group.

Vidosic’s Albion stun Arsenal to achieve highest finish
Vidosic’s Albion stun Arsenal to achieve highest finish
Dario Vidosic is set to take Brighton and Hove Albion to their highest finish in the Women’s Super League after ending the home campaign with a 4-2 win over a shell-shocked Arsenal side featuring Matildas Steph Catley and Caitlin Foord.
Vidosic is in his debut season in England after leaving Melbourne City last July, and barring highly improbable last-day results will lead Albion to fifth place.
The Gunners reached the Champions League final, where they will face holders Barcelona, nine days ago but have since conceded nine goals in two matches following a 5-2 midweek defeat by Aston Villa.
While Renee Slegars tries to work out what is going on with her side, Vidosic is able to savour a fine campaign.
Brighton will achieve a top-five finish unless they lose at Villa on Saturday, Liverpool win at champions Chelsea, and there is a 10-goal swing in goal difference.
Albion gave their fans a memorable send-off at Broadfield Stadium, Crawley, with Fran Kirby firing in the opening goal after 16 minutes.
Although Foord soon equalised, Jelena Cankovic struck either side of the break – her second after Arsenal were caught playing out from the back – to put the hosts firmly in control after 52 minutes.
Kiko Seike added a fourth just two minutes later after a swift counter to keep Brighton fifth and on course for a best-ever season.
Arsenal, who had created a stack of chances but finished poorly, finally scored a late consolation through Mariona Caldentey in stoppage time.

Top LAFD union officers suspended after audit flags $800,000 in credit card spending
Top LAFD union officers suspended after audit flags $800,000 in credit card spending
The president and two other top officers of the Los Angeles Fire Department’s labor union were suspended from their posts Monday after an investigation by the union’s parent organization found $800,000 in credit card purchases that were not properly accounted for.
The International Assn. of Fire Fighters, which oversees the United Firefighters of Los Angeles City and other local firefighter unions across the country, suspended President Freddy Escobar and the two others over diverse financial improprieties, including “serious problems” with missing receipts, according to a letter by IAFF General President Edward Kelly to UFLAC members.
The IAFF appointed a conservator to take over the labor union to “restore responsible financial stewardship and guarantee the fulfillment of UFLAC’s legitimate objectives,” Kelly wrote.
“The leadership of UFLAC has abdicated its fiduciary responsibilities and placed Local 112 in ill repute. The financial malpractice by the leadership of UFLAC has dealt serious harm to the membership,” Kelly added.
The dramatic move came after a wide-ranging audit of UFLAC’s finances revealed different kinds of financial improprieties.
The audit found that from July 2018 through November 2024, Escobar initiated 1,957 transactions on his UFLAC credit card, totaling $311,497.58, the letter said. More than 70% of those transactions — amounting to $230,466 — have no supporting documentation.
“The auditors could not ascertain the purpose of these transactions,” Kelly wrote in the letter. He added that an additional 157 transactions — amounting to $35,397 — were only partially supported with required documentation.
“This means there is no way to determine whether $265,862.34 in dues money spent by President Escobar without documentation was for legitimate union expenditures,” the letter said.
Escobar did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The audit found that two others — former Secretary Adam Walker and former treasurer Domingo Albarran Jr. — together had more than $530,000 in credit card transactions with either no receipts or that were only partially documented. Walker did not immediately respond to a request for comment, and Albarran declined to comment.
Vice Presidents Chuong Ho and Doug Coates were also suspended and accused of breaching their fiduciary duties in “failing to enforce UFLAC policy.” Neither immediately responded to a request for comment.
“Protecting the dues money that members contribute to their Local union is one of the highest priorities for all Local union officers,” Kelly wrote. “In fact, Local union officers have a legal responsibility, called a fiduciary duty, to ensure that your dues are spent in your best interests and in a manner you can track. This is so you know exactly how your dues money is being spent.”
The investigation began last October when the new treasurer of the union, Jason Powell, raised concerns to the IAFF about alleged improper record-keeping and use of union funds.
The Times first reported on the audit, along with the suspension of Walker, who had been accused of improperly depositing more than $75,000 of funds from the union’s charity for injured firefighters into his personal accounts from December 2022 to January 2024.
Walker previously told The Times that the allegations are false. He said the account he drew from was not for the charity, the UFLAC Fire Foundation, but was set up for two golf tournaments to raise money for a disabled former firefighter. All of the deposits were reimbursements for his legitimate out-of-pocket expenses for the tournaments, Walker said.
The IAFF investigation, however, found that immediately after moving large sums of money out of the charity’s account into his personal accounts, Walker paid his mortgage and RV loan payments, and made cash ATM withdrawals at casinos, the letter said.
The announcement also comes on the heels of a Times investigation that found Escobar and other top union officers for years have been padding their paychecks with overtime while also collecting five- to six-figure union stipends.
Escobar made about $540,000 in 2022, the most recent year for which records of both his city and union earnings are available. He more than doubled his base salary of $184,034 with overtime payouts that year, earning a total of more than $424,500 from the city in pay and benefits, payroll data show.
He collected an additional $115,962 stipend from the union, according to its most recent federal tax filing. He reported working 48 hours a week on union and related duties, while records provided by the city for that year show he picked up an average of roughly 30 hours of overtime a week — a total of about 78 hours of work each week.

Credit Suisse Services AG will pay about $511 million to settle a criminal case for having conspired with American taxpayers to hide more than $4 billion in at least 475 offshore accounts, the Department of Justice said Monday.
The conspiracy allowed “ultra-high-net-worth and high-net-worth individual clients” of the Swiss financial services corporation to evade their U.S. tax obligations from 2010 through 2021, the DOJ said.
“In doing so, Credit Suisse AG committed new crimes and breached its May 2014 plea agreement with the United States,” the department said.
The company pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to aid and assist in the preparation of false income tax returns in U.S. District Court in the Eastern District of Virginia.
In addition to that plea, Credit Suisse entered into a non-prosecution agreement with prosecutors in connection with U.S. accounts that were booked at Credit Suisse AG Singapore.
“Between 2014 and June 2023, Credit Suisse AG Singapore held undeclared accounts for U.S. persons, which Credit Suisse AG Singapore knew or should have known were U.S., with total assets valued at over $2 billion,” the DOJ said.
Read more CNBC politics coverage
“Credit Suisse AG Singapore failed to adequately identify the true beneficial owners of accounts and failed to conduct adequate inquiry about U.S. indicia in the accounts,” the department said.
“In 2023, during the post-merger of UBS AG Singapore and Credit Suisse AG Singapore, UBS became aware of accounts held at Credit Suisse AG Singapore that appeared to be undeclared U.S. accounts. UBS froze some of the accounts, voluntarily disclosed information about those identified accounts to the Justice Department and cooperated by undertaking an investigation into the identified accounts.”
Credit Suisse’s parent company, the Swiss bank UBS, in a statement, said it was “not involved in the underlying conduct and has zero tolerance for tax evasion.” UBS acquired Credit Suisse in 2023.
“With this resolution, UBS is pleased to have resolved another of Credit Suisse’s legacy issues, in line with UBS’s intention to resolve legacy matters at pace in a fair and balanced way and in the best interest of all its stakeholders,” the bank said.
“In the second quarter of 2025, UBS Group AG expects to recognize a credit from the partial release of the contingent liability established with the acquisition of Credit Suisse as part of the purchase price allocation process,” the statement said. “UBS AG expects to record a charge in the second quarter in relation to this resolution.”

A new Ecco the Dolphin is coming, as well as remasters of the first two games
A new Ecco the Dolphin is coming, as well as remasters of the first two games
A new Ecco the Dolphin game and two remasters are in development, according to the series’ creator.
Ecco creator Ed Annunziata was interviewed on the official Xbox Wire website, as part of an article celebrating Asian and Pacific Islander Heritage Month.
Annunziata – who created and designed the first two Ecco the Dolphin games on Mega Drive / Genesis and produced its spin-off aimed at younger players, Ecco Jr – was asked what the future holds for the Ecco series.
“Me and the entire original team are going to remaster the original Ecco the Dolphin and Tides of Time games,” he replied. “Then we will make a new, third game with contemporary play and GPU sensibilities.”
Annunziata also directed players to “stay tuned” to an Ecco the Dolphin website, which currently shows a countdown clock. The clock is currently counting down to April 25, 2026.
The original Ecco the Dolphin was released in December 1992 and was praised for its detailed graphics and atmospheric soundtrack. It also gained notoriety for its difficulty.
It was followed by a sequel, Ecco: The Tides of Time, which was released on the Mega Drive / Genesis in 1994 with a Mega CD / ***** CD release a few months later.
After the release of spin-off game Ecco Jr the series remained dormant for a while, until ***** and developer Appaloosa Interactive released Ecco the Dolphin: Defender of the Future on Dreamcast (and later PS2). Annunziata had no involvement in this new game, which was a 3D adventure rather than his 2D side-scrolling games.
The original Ecco the Dolphin was released in late 1992.
Back in 2013, Annunziata – who didn’t have the rights to the Ecco the Dolphin IP – attempted to crowdfund a spiritual successor called The Big Blue, but this was ultimately unsuccessful.
Undeterred, he settled a lawsuit with ***** in 2016 which appeared to potentially open the door again for a new Ecco title.
Following the release of his Switch game Space War Arena in 2019, Annunziata said in an interview that he wasn’t giving up, saying: “When I was trying to convince ***** about Ecco the Dolphin it took me years to get them to bite. There are some challenges I need to overcome but eventually, there will be a new Ecco.”

CBN News Visits Southern Border Where the Change Is Staggering
CBN News Visits Southern Border Where the Change Is Staggering
EL PASO, Texas – Border apprehensions in the El Paso sector have seen a sharp decline in recent months, as U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents report increased morale and operational support, including military presence and the return of aggressive enforcement tactics.
On a recent patrol, Border Patrol Agent Claudio Herrera responded to reports of an ******** crossing. By the time he arrived, a K-9 unit had already tracked down a Honduran couple. “This is the reality they are going to face. Being apprehended and, at the end of the day, being removed out of the country because they are violating Title 8,” Herrera said.
El Paso agents now report around 40 apprehensions per day, down sharply from 2,700 daily just two years ago. Rep. Don McLaughlin (R-TX) credits a shift in federal policy. “The last administration didn’t care. They didn’t enforce anything,” McLaughlin said. “This administration said we’re not going to allow that anymore. We’re going to pick you up and send you back. And it’s worked.”
U.S. military support, including helicopters and armored vehicles, has helped eliminate “gotaways”—migrants who cross without being caught. According to Border Patrol Chaplain Daniel Ortega, this has had a major impact on agent morale.
“Morale was at an all-time low. Suicide, domestic violence, and alcoholism were high,” Ortega said. “Now that we’re getting back to work, doing what we came to do—apprehending and tracking people—it’s changed dramatically.”
Agents also point to Trump-era policies like lifted vehicle pursuit restrictions. “This time, Border Patrol is engaging. Before, they were told to back off,” McLaughlin said.
In March, ******** crossings dropped to just over 7,000, down from 137,000 a year earlier, CBP data shows.
***Please sign up for CBN Newsletters and download the CBN News app to ensure you receive the latest news from a distinctly Christian perspective.***
“This is what we signed up for—to protect our borders and our country,” Herrera said.
Still, dangers remain. In some border areas, agents have installed fencing to block rocks thrown from across the wall. Herrera said spiritual warfare is also part of the battle, referencing a shrine to the so-called Lady of Holy Death, which cartels believe protects them from a violence. “This is the reality of the evil we are facing,” he said. “It is demonic, just pure evil.”
Cartels continue to dominate northern Mexico, particularly Juarez, where agents discovered 281 stash houses last year. “They control that 100%,” McLaughlin said. “If you’re not with the cartels, and you get caught trying to go through, you may pay a very dear price—with your life.”
With smuggling fees as high as $20,000 per person, the crackdown has also triggered more kidnappings and threats against agents.
Ortega, whose role as chaplain includes praying with agents in the field, said faith is a vital source of strength. “Just know that God is with you,” he said. “Even in the valley of the shadow of death, He will always be with you.”
Though challenges remain, Border Patrol agents say they’re seeing results. Once-crowded migrant trails now sit empty.
“It is very gratifying to see results and consequences and having a government that is for the safety and the well-being of our communities,” Herrera said.

Ford pulls guidance, warns it will take $1.5 billion hit from Trump’s tariffs
Ford pulls guidance, warns it will take $1.5 billion hit from Trump’s tariffs
By Nora Eckert and Nathan Gomes
DETROIT (Reuters) -Ford Motor suspended its annual guidance on Monday because of uncertainty around U.S. President Donald Trump’s tariffs, saying the levies would cost the company about $1.5 billion in adjusted earnings before interest and taxes.
In February, the Dearborn, Michigan automaker projected earnings before interest and taxes of $7.0 billion to $8.5 billion for 2025. That forecast did not take tariffs into account.
Ford Chief Financial Officer Sherry House said the company was on track to meet that guidance, excluding the fallout from tariffs.
“We are focused on managing what we control,” House said.
While rivals such as General Motors recently provided updated guidance, Ford executives said they suspended the company’s outlook until they have more clarity about the effect of retaliatory tariffs, as well as how consumers may react to price increases.
Ford’s earnings per share fell to 14 cents in the first quarter, far surpassing LSEG analysts’ estimate of 2 cents per share but down from 49 cents a year earlier. Cost and quality improvements helped Ford beat expectations, executives said.
Earlier this year, the automaker had warned that first-quarter results would be affected by production disruptions related to product launches at several plants. Net income fell sharply to $471 million from $1.3 billion a year earlier.
Ford’s revenue fell 5% to $40.7 billion in the quarter but beat expectations of about $36 billion. Earnings got a boost as consumers rushed to snatch up vehicles, concerned tariffs would lead to price hikes. Ford was one of a few automakers that ran incentives to grab market share during this buying frenzy.
Ford said tariffs would add $2.5 billion in costs overall for the year, mainly related to expenses from importing vehicles from Mexico and China. The automaker suspended automotive exports to China, but still imports vehicles like its Lincoln Nautilus from the country.
Ford said it has been able to reduce about $1 billion of that cost through various actions, including transporting vehicles from Mexico to Canada using bond carriers, so they are not subject to U.S. tariffs, House said.
Trump’s 25% tariffs on automotive imports were expected to add more than $100 billion in costs for automakers in the U.S. this year, according to some estimates.
The president approved a reprieve last month around levies placed on automotive parts, providing auto companies with credits for up to 15% of the value of vehicles assembled domestically, as well as relief from other duties.
Story Continues
This month, GM cut its profit forecast and said tariffs were expected to cost it up to $5 billion.
“Investors have preferred Ford over GM given Ford has a much higher mix of U.S. sales that are assembled in the U.S.,” Barclays analysts said in a note, citing Ford’s 79% of U.S. sales assembled in the country versus GM’s 53%.
Jeep-maker Stellantis also suspended its guidance due to tariff uncertainty.
On top of headwinds from Trump’s trade policy, Ford faces significant losses on its electric vehicles.
The automaker this year projected losses of up to $5.5 billion on its EV and software operations. It has already sustained more than $10 billion in losses since 2023.
Reuters exclusively reported that Ford ended an expensive effort to build a next-generation electrical architecture for its vehicles called FNV4, after delays and mounting expenses stymied its development.
Ford Pro, the company’s profitable commercial vehicle segment, posted first-quarter revenue of $15.2 billion, down 16% from a year ago. Ford’s gasoline-engine division posted quarterly revenue of $21 billion. Its Model e division, which includes software and EV efforts, recorded revenue of $1.2 billion for the three months.

Forget Oblivion, Fallout 3 Unreal Engine 5 Remake Reveals Megaton in All It’s Atomic Glory
Forget Oblivion, Fallout 3 Unreal Engine 5 Remake Reveals Megaton in All It’s Atomic Glory
It’s been a few weeks since the release of the Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered, and the hype train hasn’t really slowed down. Millions of players continue to jump into the Remaster. It’s an incredible Remaster that also fills the void of the decade-plus wait for the Elder Scrolls 6.
Currently, it’s still unknown if Bethesda will release more remasters. Rumors suggest that a Fallout 3 remake could be on the cards as well. As it’s one of the most beloved entries in the post-apocalyptic franchise, fans can’t wait to see where the remaster could go.
However, one dedicated fan has already one-upped Howard and his team by reimaging an iconic Fallout 3 settlement with the capabilities of Unreal Engine 5.
Megaton in Fallout 3 has never looked so good
Megaton is one of the first settlements that players come across in Fallout 3. Its bulky designs and loud games make it impossible to overlook, especially when you add the welcoming Protectron positioned outside to greet passersby into the equation.
What’s really special, or some might say twisted, about Megaton is that it’s built around an atomic bomb. The location presents Fallout 3 players with moral choices and unique characters. So, it’s not a surprise that it’s one of the most memorable locations in the post-apocalyptic franchise.
Considering that it’s been more than a decade since the release of Fallout 3, Megatown and other settlements in the title have started to show their age in terms of visuals and fidelity. Fortunately, the Fallout 3 community is here to save the day.
Thanks to the Unreal Engine 5’s cutting-edge features, the fan-made recreation of Megatown in Fallout 3 feels simply unreal. The project captures every rusted sheet of metal and irradiated atmosphere of the settlement in breathtaking detail.

The video showcasing Megatown in its full glory has managed to gain a lot of momentum in the Fallout community, with fans wanting to see further remakes of Capital Wasteland settlements.
As we’ve already said, Bethesda is riding high on the remaster wave right now. A perfect way to take things further would be by dropping a high-quality remake of Fallout 3. Considering the studio’s work on Oblivion Remastered, Unreal Engine 5 can breathe new life into the post-apocalyptic game.
Fallout 3 remaster must overhaul one gameplay mechanic
Shooting wasn’t Fallout 3‘s strongest suit. (Image via Bethesda Game Studios)
Let’s be honest, Fallout 3 wasn’t a game known for its shooting mechanics. One of the biggest issues with the title to this date is its shooting gameplay. It’s horrendous when you compare it to modern titles, and if a remake is truly coming, the mechanic needs a major overhaul.
Bringing new features such as aim-down sights, mantling, and sprinting can go a long way toward improving shooting in a potential remaster. Even Bruce Nesmith, one of the former developers of Fallout 3, states that any potential remaster should learn from the improved shooting mechanics seen in Fallout 4.
However, a full-fledged remaster must challenge player expectations and even surpass the gunplay seen in Starfield. If Bethesda commits to such a degree of overhaul, the remaster could prove to be a standout experience, capable of competing with today’s best RPGs.
With that said, what would you like to see in a Fallout 3 remaster? Let us know in the comments below.
