Actor Michael Pitt accused of sex abuse, assault of ex Actor Michael Pitt accused of sex abuse, assault of ex Actor Michael Pitt, known for his TV roles on Boardwalk Empire and Dawson’s Creek, is accused of ********* assaulting his ex-girlfriend, choking her, and attacking her with a cinder block and a piece of lumber at his New York City home, according to a grand jury indictment. Pitt, 44, whose lawyers denied the allegations, was arrested Friday on nine counts, including first-degree ******* abuse, criminal ******* acts, assault, attempted assault and strangulation. The indictment cites four incidents between April 2020 and August 2021 at Pitt’s home in the Bushwick section of Brooklyn. Brooklyn District Attorney Eric Gonzalez’s office declined to comment Wednesday beyond the allegations listed in the indictment. Pitt’s lawyer, Jason Goldman, said he already had exonerating evidence and expected the case to be dismissed. “Unfortunately, we live in a world where somebody like Mr Pitt — an accomplished professional who would never so much as contemplate these crimes — can be arrested on the uncorroborated word of an unreliable individual,” Goldman said in a text message to The Associated Press. He added, “In reality, this baseless claim is suspiciously raised some four or five years after the alleged incident, from a time when the two parties were in a completely consensual relationship.” Pitt pleaded not guilty to the charges on Friday and posted $100,000 bail, Goldman said. He is due back in court in Brooklyn on June 17. The Associated Press does not typically name people who say they have been ********* abused unless they come forward publicly, which the woman in Pitt’s case has not done. The indictment alleges Pitt forcibly touched his ex-girlfriend ********* in April 2020. In August 2020, the grand jury alleges Pitt forced ********* on the woman and assaulted her with a 10cm-by10cm piece of lumber. The indictment also says Pitt attacked her with a cinder block twice in June 2021 and choked her in August 2021. TMZ reported in 2022 that Pitt was arrested in Brooklyn for allegedly punching a man after taking his phone and, two months later, was brought to a hospital under police ******* after a public outburst in New York. Pitt, who grew up in West Orange, New Jersey, played the character Jimmy Darmody for two seasons on HBO’s Boardwalk Empire, with the cast led by Steve Buscemi winning Screen Actors Guild Awards in 2011 and 2012 for outstanding performance by an ensemble in a drama series. The show also won a Golden Globe for best drama series in 2011. His first major role came in the 2001 film Hedwig and the Angry Inch. In 2005, he starred in Last Days, director Gus Van Sant’s film about a fictional rock star inspired by Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain. He also played Henry Parker in one season of Dawson’s Creek in 1999-2000. Source link #Actor #Michael #Pitt #accused #sex #abuse #assault Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content]

Apple might kick Google Search off of Safari: report Apple might kick Google Search off of Safari: report Apple is reportedly looking to make AI tools the default search option for Safari Google is the current default search engine for Safari in a $20B-a-year deal Apple sees the AI as possibly more appealing to users for search purposes Apple is flirting with the idea of making AI tools the default search option for Safari instead of Google. As first reported by Bloomberg, Apple’s services chief Eddy Cue revealed during testimony this week in the U.S. Department of Justice’s antitrust trial against Google that Apple is “actively looking at” bringing AI-powered search engines as a Google replacement. Apple and Google currently have a mutually beneficial and lucrative deal where Google pays Apple around $20 billion a year to remain the default search engine across all Apple devices. That deal was part of the antitrust scrutiny, which led to the revelation of Apple’s interest in alternatives. Eddy Cue mentioned several major AI chatbot developers as potential new search partners for Apple, including OpenAI, Perplexity, Anthropic, and xAI. Cue told the court that searches on Safari actually declined last month for the first time in recent memory, and his theory is that people are starting to swap out standard search engines for AI tools. Instead of typing in “how does Wi-Fi work?” into a search bar, users are asking ChatGPT to explain it like they’re five. You may like Cue wasn’t exactly subtle in hinting that Apple thinks traditional search might be on the way out. “The only way you truly have true competition is when you have technology shifts,” he said. “AI is a new technology shift, and it’s creating new opportunities for new entrants.” Apple AI search Apple’s already dipped its toes into AI search, linking Siri to ChatGPT and supposedly planning to do the same with Google Gemini. Cue also noted that Apple’s open to adding multiple AI search options directly into Safari, though no decision about a new default was mentioned. AI search tools have some good points, but they come with glaring weaknesses. In particular, they can respond with incomplete, inaccurate, or downright hallucinatory information. Whether those issues are worth the advantages of AI search tools is debatable, but Apple clearly thinks it might be a worthwhile change to make. After all, if people are okay switching from Google to AI tools because they’re easier, and despite their errors, that’s the direction any company would want to follow. And there’s a reason Google has been willing to pay so much for its status on Apple devices. That user base is crucial to its search dominance. Just hinting that it might not be the case forever sent Google’s stock dropping nearly 9% after Cue’s testimony. Apple shares slipped too, but much more modestly. Sign up for breaking news, reviews, opinion, top tech deals, and more. None of this may matter if Apple decides it has a good thing with Google as a company and makes Gemini its default search tool with a similar deal. And while AI still can’t quite be trusted to write a college essay or navigate the DMV website, it’s already reshaping how we expect to interact with information. That means the tools we use to access that information are going to evolve in a way they haven’t since perhaps the widespread adoption of mobile versions of websites. Surprising Fed decision sends markets surging Surprising Fed decision sends markets surging Bitcoin is gaining ground as the U.S. Federal Reserve is anticipated to keep the interest rates unchanged. As per on-chain analytical firm Nansen, the Fed might leave its benchmark interest rate unchanged, and data from the CME shows markets have priced in a 99% probability of a pause. This probability comes amid ongoing concerns about high inflation and rising costs due to trade tariffs. US Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell is set to announce the outcome of the highly anticipated two-day policy meeting on Wednesday, May 7, 2:30 PM ET. During its last meeting in March 2025, the Fed kept the key benchmark lending rate unchanged at 4.25% to 4.50%, while signaling the possibility of two 25-basis-point cuts before the end of the year. Global investors are closely watching Powell’s remarks tonight. Most expect the Fed to hold rates steady once again — even as President Donald Trump has publicly urged Powell to lower rates in an effort to prevent a potential economic slowdown. Markets fully price in a Fed pause — CME data shows 99% probability of no rate change at the May 7, 2025 FOMC meeting. The world’s largest crypto has been trading at $97,022, 3.90% higher over the past 24 hours as markets bet on a “hold” decision by the Federal Reserve. Lower interest rates generally benefit riskier assets like cryptocurrencies, since they make borrowing cheaper and encourage more investment. As recession fears cool and risk appetite returns, Bitcoin is showing signs of breaking away from traditional markets — at least for now. According to Nansen, there is no net downside effect for cryptocurrencies as a result of today’s announcement, but rather the opposite, which strengthens Bitcoin’s recent momentum. While stocks remain mixed — with the S&P 500 slipping below its 200-day moving average, often seen as a bearish signal — Bitcoin’s technical indicators are turning bullish. Short-term moving averages are rising above long-term ones, which many traders see as a positive trend. Meanwhile, altcoins are lagging. They’ve yet to pick a clear direction and are waiting on stronger macro signals, such as the outcome of U.S. trade negotiations or potential new tax breaks for businesses. If measles keeps spreading, Canada may lose 30-year elimination status: PHAC – National If measles keeps spreading, Canada may lose 30-year elimination status: PHAC – National Canada has held measles elimination status for nearly 30 years — but that could be gone by the fall. If the current outbreaks keep growing the way they have been, Canada could lose that status by October 2025, according to a recent risk update from the Public Health Agency of Canada (PHAC). “It is a very substantial public health issue right now. Canada achieved measles elimination in 1998. We’ve not had outbreaks of this size in more than 30 years,” said Dr. Sarah Wilson, a public health physician from Public Health Ontario. “I can only use the word startling to describe what it has been like as a public physician. And measles transmission will end once the measles virus stops finding people to infect.” 1:39 Nova Scotia resident becomes province’s 1st measles case in 2 years after U.S. visit That means measles vaccination rates have to go up, she said. Story continues below advertisement And cases are not just exploding in Canada, but across the globe, in Europe and the United States, which is also at risk of losing its measles elimination status. Measles is one of the most contagious infectious diseases — more contagious than diseases like COVID-19, influenza and chickenpox. This high level of contagiousness is one reason why measles outbreaks can spread rapidly, particularly in areas with low vaccination rates. As of April 19, Canada has reported 1,177 measles cases this year across seven provinces, with Ontario seeing the highest numbers. More on Health More videos At the same time last year, there were just 65 reported cases. Get weekly health news Receive the latest medical news and health information delivered to you every Sunday. This surge, driven largely by pockets of unvaccinated people, marks the largest measles outbreak since the virus was declared eliminated in 1998, PHAC’s latest risk assessment said. “If the current chain of transmission continues beyond October 2025, Canada could lose its elimination status,” PHAC stated. “Prolonged transmission reflects gaps in population immunity, often due to limited access to or uptake of vaccines, and can lead to preventable illness, long-term complications, and death, especially in vulnerable groups.” The report also said the likelihood of prolonged transmission in the next six months is moderate to high, “driven by an outbreak involving communities with low immunity to measles.” Story continues below advertisement What is elimination status Elimination status doesn’t mean measles is completely gone (that would be eradication), but it does mean the disease is no longer spreading continuously within the country. Canada achieved measles elimination in 1998, after years of strong vaccination efforts. That meant measles was no longer really spreading via community transmission, and most cases were linked to travel. And Canada was able to reach elimination status as a “direct result” of successful vaccination programs, PHAC said. But, in recent years, measles has resurfaced due to a decline in vaccination rates. 1:59 Ontario’s measles outbreak sees biggest spike in cases yet Trending Now RCMP have ‘scaled back’ search for missing N.S. children, say little chance they are alive ********* government ‘fact check’ dismisses Trump administration claims about border Because the measles virus can spread before symptoms appear and remain contagious for an extended *******, outbreaks are difficult to contain once they begin. Story continues below advertisement “Unfortunately, we know that measles has been introduced into parts of the province where we have pockets of unvaccinated and under-vaccinated individuals,” Wilson said. To effectively prevent measles outbreaks and maintain herd immunity, at least 95 per cent of the population must be vaccinated. A study published in October 2024 in the ********* Journal of Public Health found that vaccination rates for the measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccine declined in 2023 compared with 2019, before the pandemic. Specifically, coverage for one dose of MMR dropped from 89.5 per cent to 82.5 per cent. “If people are fully vaccinated, they are not at risk of this outbreak,” Wilson said. “And for individuals who are not, I would really encourage people to speak to a trusted health care provider in terms of ensuring that their questions are answered .” 1:58 Unvaccinated Ontario child dies of measles, sparks concern among health community This is because complications from measles can be serious, including pneumonia, brain swelling, permanent hearing loss and even death, especially in young children or those with weakened immune systems. Story continues below advertisement The measles vaccine is available in Canada as measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) or measles-mumps-rubella-varicella (MMRV) vaccine. The first dose of a measles-containing vaccine is usually given to children at 12 months of age. The second dose is usually given at 18 months of age or between four and six years of age. Since its approval in Canada in 1963, the vaccine has led to a decrease of more than 99 per cent in measles cases, according to the federal government. © 2025 Global News, a division of Corus Entertainment Inc. Republican concedes after judge’s ruling in NC court race

Republican concedes after judge’s ruling in NC court race Republican concedes after judge’s ruling in NC court race Judge Jefferson Griffin, the Republican candidate for the N.C. Supreme Court listens to testimony in Wake County Superior Court on Friday, Feb. 7, 2025, in Raleigh, North Carolina. Griffin trails North Carolina Supreme Court Justice Allison Riggs by 734 votes following two recounts of the November 2024 election results. Robert Willett | Raleigh News & Observer | Tribune News Service | Getty Images The Republican candidate for North Carolina’s state Supreme Court conceded on Wednesday, ending his six-month long crusade to overturn the election results in the perennial battleground state. “While I do not fully agree with the District Court’s analysis, I respect the court’s holding—just as I have respected every judicial tribunal that has heard this case,” Judge Jefferson Griffin said in a statement. “I will not appeal the court’s decision,” he added. His concession to Democratic Justice Allison Riggs came two days after a judge appointed by Republican President Donald Trump rejected Griffin’s legal challenges to the election. The ruling by Richard E. Myers II, chief judge for the Eastern District of North Carolina, was a major win for Democrats in the key swing state. Riggs will serve an eight-year term on the GOP-majority court. It also boosts Democrats’ chances of winning back the majority of the seven-justice court in 2028. Read more CNBC politics coverage In his 68-page order, Myers wrote that “retroactive changes to election procedures raise serious due process concerns, particularly where those changes result in invalidating the votes of individuals who cast ballots in reliance on previously established rules.” The order was a firm rejection of Griffin’s post-election legal challenges. Critics of Griffin’s arguments had warned that if he won, it could open the door to other candidates who lose races to challenge the results. “You establish the rules before the game. You don’t change them after the game is done,” Myers wrote in his order. The Democratic National Committee hailed Riggs’ win as “a righteous victory for democracy and a clear defeat of political gamesmanship.” “For 200 days, Republicans in North Carolina sought to overturn the will of the people, ******* a state Supreme Court seat, and systematically undermine basic faith in our elections,” DNC chair Ken Martin said in a statement. “May this saga be a lesson to Republicans everywhere: If you try to undermine the will of the voters, you will lose,” Martin added. Riggs narrowly won the statewide contest in November’s election, a victory that was later affirmed by two recounts. The months of legal challenges make the North Carolina Supreme Court race the last uncalled contest of the 2024 election cycle. It also forced Riggs’ campaign to spend thousands of dollars to fight the lawsuits. Riggs’ campaign and a dedicated legal fund spent nearly $100,000 on lawyers to help her fight the prolonged court battle, according to independent North Carolina journalist Bryan Anderson, citing campaign finance data. Nintendo Switch 2 May Record Your Audio And Video Chats Nintendo Switch 2 May Record Your Audio And Video Chats One of the big changes coming to the Switch 2 is the integration of audio and video chats throughout the console experience with a feature called GameChat. However, this new feature has required Nintendo to change its privacy policy: The company has disclosed that it may record Switch 2 audio and video chat sessions held between players. In a recent update to its privacy policy, Nintendo explained, “We may collect, monitor and record audio and video of your chat sessions with other users to provide a safe and secure environment for certain of our services.” This data collection is done with the player’s consent–which, if other consoles are anything to go by, could take the form of a clause in the terms of use for the chat functionality or an opt-in screen. Further, Nintendo specifically states that this recording process is done to “enforce our terms,” which could include both safety policies and legal requirements. Microsoft, for instance, states that it collects data from Xbox chat sessions, at least in part to power Xbox’s voice chat reporting functionality for safety enforcement. PlayStation party sessions and voice chat are also recorded to some extent for safety and security. As voice and video chat functions have become more widespread and integral parts of gaming ecosystems, companies have rolled out increasingly sophisticated capabilities for recording, analyzing, and acting on the data that these produce. While it is often difficult to know the full extent of what companies are using this data for, much of it has to do with ensuring compliance with privacy and safety laws and enforcing community standards. Because of the legal ramifications of violations of some of these laws, some specialist companies have emerged to provide services in the voice and video chat safety space. Right now, it is unclear exactly how Nintendo intends on using recordings for safety enforcement, and the company has not detailed what types of systems it will employ. We have reached out to Nintendo for comment and will update this story with any additional detail if we hear back. In the meantime, be sure to read all about Switch 2’s GameChat and keep an eye on our Switch 2 preorder guide if you’re still trying to secure a console ahead of its June 5 release date. Elden Ring Nightreign Will Have ‘Gradually Evolving’ Bosses That Are Immune To Your Initial Strategy Elden Ring Nightreign Will Have ‘Gradually Evolving’ Bosses That Are Immune To Your Initial Strategy Everyone’s excited for Elden Ring Nightreign, which brings an unexpected multiplayer spin to our beloved The Lands Between, a beautiful open-world map crafted meticulously by Hidetaka Miyazaki. With the game’s release date inching closer, players are now gearing themselves up with different strategies they might have to use against the different bosses in the game, which will all seemingly fail, thanks to a new particular mechanic. Nightreign is supposed to be out May 30th. This multiplayer game aims to redefine the boss battle experience with its innovative design of “gradually evolving” bosses that adapt to players’ strategies, rendering most of them useless as the player progresses further in the story. Elden Ring Nightreign is not as easy as you think As the headline says, in Elden Ring Nightreign, according to the game’s director, Junya Ishizaki, bosses aren’t going to be as easy as they might seem. Though you have 8 different characters to choose from with your group of 2 other friends, it seems strategies that might work during the start of the game will slowly be rendered useless as you progress. In a conversation with PlayStation Blog, the director of the game stated how the bosses will keep evolving over time in the game, making it so that the players will have to keep coming up with something new in order to finish the 3 nights of survival. The revelation has also made its way onto the game’s official subreddit, where the users reacted like the following: Comment byu/Shoddy_Detective_825 from discussion inNightreign Comment byu/Shoddy_Detective_825 from discussion inNightreign Comment byu/Shoddy_Detective_825 from discussion inNightreign Comment byu/Shoddy_Detective_825 from discussion inNightreign The game’s structure revolves around a three-day cycle. During this *******, players face a variety of bosses, culminating in a final confrontation with a powerful Nightlord. The director’s comments have me sure that FromSoftware might have stepped up their boss AI game, making fights even harder than before and putting new life into the old Dark Souls bosses, making a comeback. What having harder enemies means for Elden Ring Nightreign Elden Ring Nightreign might have the hardest FromSoftware enemies ever Just having a large moveset that deals a lot of damage is not enough to make a boss feel threatening anymore. After all, we have iconic players like Let Me Solo Her who take no time in adapting to these attacks and making bosses like Malenia look like the Soldier of Godrick. To combat this, Junya Ishizaki has now implemented ‘gradually evolving’ bosses, as mentioned above. It could very well mean that no two encounters might feel the same, something we will only get to know once Elden Ring Nightreign is fully out soon. The game’s introduction of gradually evolving bosses will mark a significant evolution in action RPG design. Bearing in mind it’s one of FromSoftware’s first proper ventures into multiplayer, a mechanic like this might just be the USP it needs to stand out from the rest of the competition. Ford will raise the sticker price on cars imported from Mexico. It just said it didn’t expect significant US price hikes Ford will raise the sticker price on cars imported from Mexico. It just said it didn’t expect significant US price hikes A Ford Mach-E at a Ford dealership in Colma, California. – David Paul Morris/Bloomberg/Getty Images Ford is hiking the sticker prices for the three US models it imports from Mexico by up to $2,000 each, just days after executives said they didn’t expect significant increases in industrywide car prices this year. The price increase was disclosed in a memo sent to Ford dealerships, first reported by Reuters but confirmed by Ford. Ford said the manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP), also known as the “sticker price,” would increase between $600 to $2,000 per vehicle, depending on the features. Ford said the price hike doesn’t apply to vehicles currently on the lot, but will apply to those built after May 2, which start arriving at dealerships in several weeks. “This is our usual mid-year pricing actions combined with some tariffs we are facing,” Ford spokesman Said Deep told CNN. “We have not passed on the full cost of tariffs to our customers. Our approach throughout this evolving situation continues to be doing what’s right for our customers – and our business.” Since April 3, imported vehicles have faced a tariff of up to 25%. Most of the major automakers import some of their US vehicles from foreign plants, including those in Mexico. Ford assembles three US models in Mexico: the Ford Mustang Mach-E electric vehicle, the Maverick midsize pickup and the Bronco Sport, an entry-level SUV. Those models accounted for about 17% of Ford’s first quarter US sales. Despite the tariff on car imports, and an additional tariff on imported parts raising the cost of production, most automakers have been slow to announce price increases pegged to import taxes. Ford said last week it would continue to offer customers the promotional “employee pricing” through July 4. Ford says it has a sufficient inventory of vehicles built and imported before tariffs took effect to handle purchases through that date. The price hike does not mean customers will necessarily pay $2,000 more per vehicle. Retail prices are set across millions of individual negotiations between buyers and dealers, although the MSRP is typically a starting point. During a media briefing Monday, Ford CFO Sherry House would not comment on Ford’s own pricing plans, but said she didn’t expect new car pricing in the United States to increase significantly. Ford itself said it expects the tariffs will cost it about $1.5 billion through the rest of this year. “We now expect industry pricing related to tariffs (to increase) about 1% to 1.5% in the second half,” she said. Why wasn’t it an issue before and is it an issue now? What’s the difference? Last year fifth [in the Premier League] didn’t get you into the Champions League, this year it does. What does that mean?” Uefa amended its rules in 2014 to allow the Europa League winners to qualify for the following season’s Champions League tournament, but Wenger disagreed with the policy. Asked if this was “right”, he told BeIN Sports: “No, they should qualify automatically for the Europa League again but not necessarily for the Champions League – especially when you’re in the Premier League where already five teams qualify. I think it’s something [for Uefa] to think about and to review. “On the other hand, people will tell you that to keep the Europa League focused, interesting and motivated you need to give them that prize [of qualifying for the Champions League].” Tottenham face ***** in Norway without James Maddison, with Postecoglou confirming the England midfielder is out for the season with the knee injury he suffered in the first leg. Israeli strikes on Gaza school, market, kill 48 Israeli strikes on Gaza school, market, kill 48 At least 48 people were killed in Israeli air strikes on a school that housed families displaced by the conflict and which was located close to a crowded market and restaurant in Gaza City, local health authorities said. Medics said two strikes targeted the Karama School in Tuffah, a suburb of Gaza City, killing 15 on Wednesday. Later in the day, an Israeli strike near a restaurant and market in the city killed at least 33 people, including women and children, medics said. There was no immediate Israeli comment. Reuters footage of the scene near the market showed wounded men being rushed away on the back of pickups and carts. Ambulances sped down shattered streets and a woman in tears carried a baby away from the scene, with two young children beside her. “The blood was like a lake, oh my baby, pools of blood,” she screamed. An image posted on social media showed what appeared to be a family of three – mother, father and son – lying dead on the street in pools of blood. The young boy was carrying a pink backpack. Reuters could not immediately verify the image that was purportedly from the scene near the restaurant. Two Israeli air strikes on another school, housing displaced people in Bureij camp in central Gaza, killed at least 33 people, including women and children, on Tuesday, local health authorities said. The Israeli military said it struck “terrorists” operating from a command centre in the compound. The strike smashed classrooms, destroyed furniture and left a large crater in the school campus. On Wednesday, survivors sifted through rubble to look for some of their belongings. In Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip, near the border with Egypt, residents and ****** sources said Israeli forces, who have taken control of the city, continued to blow up and demolish houses and buildings. Al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of the ************ militant group ******, said on Wednesday their fighters had detonated a pre-planted minefield targeting an Israeli armoured force east of Khan Younis in the south. They said they inflicted casualties, followed by mortar shelling of the area. Israel resumed its offensive in March after the collapse of a US-backed ceasefire that had halted fighting for two months. It has since imposed an aid blockade, drawing warnings from the UN that the 2.3 million population faces imminent famine. Israeli troops have already taken over an area amounting to around a third of Gaza, displacing the population and building watchtowers and surveillance posts on cleared ground the military has described as security zones. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said he will expand the offensive against ****** after his security cabinet approved plans that may include seizing the entire Gaza Strip and controlling aid. But an Israeli defence official said on Monday the operation would not be launched before US President Donald Trump concludes his visit next week to the Middle East, and there was a “window of opportunity” for a ceasefire and hostage release deal during Trump’s visit. A senior ****** official, Bassem Naim, said on Wednesday the group would not agree to any interim truce in return for a resumption of aid for a few days, and insisted on a full ceasefire deal to end the war. Naim said ****** would not accept “desperate attempts before Trump’s visit, through the crime of starvation, the continuation of genocide, and the threat of expanding military action to achieve a partial agreement that returns some (Israeli) prisoners in exchange for a few days of food and drink”. The war began on October 7, 2023, when ****** killed 1200 people and took 251 hostage, according to Israeli tallies. Israel’s campaign has killed more than 52,000 Palestinians, mostly civilians, according to ******-run health authorities, and reduced much of Gaza to ruins. The ******-run Gaza government’s media office said two local journalists, Nour Abdu and Yehya Sbeih, were killed in Wednesday’s attacks, raising the number of ************ journalists killed by Israeli fire since the war began to 214. Let’s All Speculate Wildly About What Outer Wilds Dev’s New Game Is Let’s All Speculate Wildly About What Outer Wilds Dev’s New Game Is Outer Wilds developer Mobius Digital is hard at work on a new game. In patch notes posted to Steam alongside a minor update for Outer Wilds, the studio mentioned that it is transitioning development resources to focus more on its next title. First spotted by Rock Paper Shotgun, the studio mentioned–almost offhandedly–that it is increasingly turning toward its future title. It explains, for instance, that the reason behind Mobius’s implementation of a staggered release of minor patches across platforms is because of the resources its next project requires. As the patch notes state, “This is no shade to our QA testers, we’re just trying to be extra risk averse and conservative with the resources we put toward Outer Wilds since our new game is our priority!” You need a javascript enabled browser to watch videos. Outer Wilds was critically acclaimed when it came out back in 2019–and its mix of cartoony space-western aesthetics, complex puzzles, and catchy space banjo were particularly notable. Will we see the return of an interplanetary bluegrass band? Will Mobius stick with the space theme or use a different setting? Mobius Digital is most well-known for Outer Wilds, but it actually worked on a couple of other projects in the past. As it lists on its website, Mobius created two smaller-scale mobile titles, Terra Chroma and Beacon 38. If you squint hard enough at screenshots and descriptions of Beacon 38, you might be able to see some common aesthetic or thematic threads that ended up in Outer Wilds. Mobius worked on these titles long enough ago that it’s not trivial to play them now; for example, fans have had to collaborate on finding a playable version of Beacon 38. What do you hope to see from a follow-up to Outer Wilds? Let us know in the comments below! Windows 10 support is ending — but End of 10 wants you to switch to Linux Windows 10 support is ending — but End of 10 wants you to switch to Linux Microsoft is ending support for Windows 10 on Oct. 14, 2025. After that, there won’t be any feature updates or security patches for your machine. The company has been pushing users to switch to devices that are ready for Windows 11, including its new Copilot+ PCs. But a small group calling itself “End of 10” has a different idea — instead of switching to a new PC, switch away from Windows altogether. The team, which includes some people involved in the Linux community and KDE project, is pushing for people to install Linux on their Windows 10 PCs, or to find someone with technical expertise to help. End of Ten is pushing some standard arguments against Windows, including that Linux doesn’t have ads or telemetry, but is also pointing out that throwing away all of these Windows 10 laptops will create e-waste, and that “keeping a functioning device longer is a hugely effective way to reduce emissions.” By at least one estimate by Canalys, 240 million PCs aren’t ready to upgrade to Windows 11 based on their hardware requirements. There’s also a compelling fiscal argument: installing a free, open-source operating system on your old PC is definitely cheaper than buying a new machine. End of 10 suggests that most people should be able to install Linux on their own (though it doesn’t make distribution recommendations, instead suggesting that you “Search for Linux distributions for beginners” to find one). If you don’t have that knowledge or confidence, the group is promising that the Linux community is there to support you. The site features a list of shops and tech collectives that say they’re willing to help with Linux support. But as of this writing, the vast majority of the 43 listed places are in Germany, with most others sprinkled elsewhere throughout Europe. There’s a similar case in a section filled with events dedicated to helping to install and teach Linux. End of 10 isn’t the only organization switching to Linux. Some computer charities are also giving it a shot to give people in need laptops that might otherwise end up in landfills. Windows 11 has some strict system requirements, including 8th Gen Core or more recent Intel processors, AMD Ryzen 2000 or higher processors, and a selection of Qualcomm chips. Newer AI-focused Copilot+ laptops using chips with NPUs, including the Intel Core Ultra 200V series, AMD Ryzen AI 300 chips, and Qualcomm Snapdragon X, X Plus, or X Elite. They also require at least 16GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, though Windows 11 only requires 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage. And while End of 10 is pointing at Linux, there have been myriad ways to install Windows 11 on old Windows 10 PCs that are technically unsupported. But if you’re staring down an aging laptop and you aren’t ready to replace it yet, now may be Linux’s time to shine. It’s not a new argument, but since the Linux community is opening its arms, perhaps it will earn a few new fans. Get Tom’s Hardware’s best news and in-depth reviews, straight to your inbox. Trump digs in on high China tariffs ahead of trade talks Trump digs in on high China tariffs ahead of trade talks U.S. President Donald Trump speaks during a swearing-in ceremony for the new U.S. ambassador to China, former U.S. Senator David Perdue, at the White House in Washington, D.C., U.S., May 7, 2025. Leah Millis | Reuters President Donald Trump said Wednesday he would not consider lowering the United States’ 145% tariffs on China in order to spur trade-war negotiations with Beijing. Trump flatly answered “no” when asked at the White House if he was open to pulling back on the steep import duties to get China to the negotiating table. Trump’s commitment to his tariffs came three days before U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent was scheduled to meet with his ******** counterpart in Switzerland to discuss trade and economic issues. China said earlier Wednesday that the U.S. requested that meeting, and that Beijing remained “firmly” opposed to Trump’s tariff hikes heading into the talks. Asked what he expected to come out of the meeting in Europe, Trump said, “We’ll see … we were losing a trillion dollars a year, now we’re not losing anything, you know? It’s the way I look at it.” This is breaking news. Please check back for updates.
