Meta blocks major ******* Instagram page in India amid rising conflict | India
Meta has banned a prominent ******* news page on Instagram in India at the government’s request, the account’s founder said on Wednesday, denouncing the move as “censorship” as hostilities escalate between India and Pakistan.
Instagram users in India trying to access posts from the handle @******* – a page with 6.7 million followers – were met with a message stating: “Account not available in India. This is because we complied with a legal request to restrict this content.”
There was no immediate reaction from the Indian government on the ban, which comes after access was blocked to the social media accounts of Pakistani actors and cricketers.
“I received hundreds of messages, emails and comments from our followers in India, that they cannot access our account,” Ameer Al-Khatahtbeh, the news account’s founder and editor-in-chief, said in a statement. “Meta has blocked the @******* account by legal request of the Indian government. This is censorship.”
Meta declined to comment. A spokesperson for the tech giant directed Agence France-Presse to a company webpage outlining its policy for restricting content when governments believe material on its platforms goes “against local law”.
The development, first reported by the US tech journalist Taylor Lorenz’s outlet User Magazine, comes in the wake of the worst violence between nuclear-armed India and Pakistan in two decades.
Both countries have exchanged heavy artillery fire along their contested frontier, after New Delhi launched deadly missile strikes on its arch-rival.
At least 43 deaths were reported in the fighting, which came two weeks after New Delhi blamed Islamabad for backing a deadly attack on tourists in the Indian-run side of the disputed *******-majority region of Kashmir.
Pakistan rejects the charge and has warned it will “avenge” those killed by Indian airstrikes.
The @******* account is among the most followed ******* news sources on Instagram. Khatahtbeh apologized to followers in India, adding: “When platforms and countries try to silence media, it tells us that we are doing our job in holding those in power accountable.
“We will continue to document the truth and stand out firmly for justice,” he added, while calling on Meta to reinstate the account in India.

India has also banned more than a dozen Pakistani YouTube channels for allegedly spreading “provocative” content, including Pakistani news outlets.
In recent days, access to the Instagram account of Pakistan’s former prime minister and cricket captain Imran Khan has also been blocked in India.
Pakistani Bollywood movie regulars Fawad Khan and Atif Aslam were also off limits in India, as well as a wide range of cricketers – including star batters Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan and retired players Shahid Afridi and Wasim Akram.
Rising hostilities between the south Asian neighbors have also unleashed an avalanche of online misinformation, with social media users circulating everything from deepfake videos to outdated images from unrelated conflicts, falsely linking them to the Indian strikes.
On Wednesday, Donald Trump called for India and Pakistan to immediately halt their fighting, and offered to help end the violence.

After-work drinks in decline outside London, peers told
After-work drinks in decline outside London, peers told
Paul Seddon

The committee heard Thursday is now the most popular night for pubs in central London
Home working appears to have led to a ******* decline in after-work drinking in city centres outside London, a Lords committee has heard.
Urban economist Paul Swinney told peers that pub spending data suggested that in the capital, post-work drinks have switched from Friday to Thursday.
But a similar shift could not be seen in other large British cities, he added, where spending in bars was more likely to shift into the weekend.
He also added that a decline in city-centre spending had not been matched by a similar increase for high streets outside urban centres.
Mr Swinney, director of the Centre for Cities think tank, was among various experts giving evidence to a special House of Lords committee set up earlier this year to examine the impact of remote and hybrid working in the ***.
Last month, the think tank published research on the pre and post-pandemic spending patterns of city-centre workers in pubs and bars around their places of work, by comparing credit and debit card data from 2019 and 2024.
The analysis showed that during that *******, the share of weekly spending in pubs in central London on Fridays fell, whilst on Thursdays it rose, making it the most most popular night of the week.
But a similar pattern was not seen in the data for nine other large British cities, including Glasgow, Liverpool, Bristol, Newcastle and Sheffield.
Surveys have shown Friday has become the most popular day for office workers to work from home, with attendance during the middle of the week returning to more similar levels to before the Covid pandemic.
‘Shift to weekend’
Explaining the spending data to peers on Thursday, Mr Swinney said that in London “the Friday night drink hasn’t so much gone away, it’s just shifted to a Thursday”.
“But when we looked at other large cities, that wasn’t the case,” he added.
“It appeared from the data that we have that the post-work drink has reduced in those other places.
“Actually the shift seems to go into the weekend, which seems to be workers coming in from a leisure perspective, rather than going out after work”.
The data analysed by the Centre for Cities showed that 32% of weekly pub spending in big cities outside London now takes place on a Saturday, suggesting workers are more likely to return on weekends to socialise than in the capital.
Supermarket spending
Elsewhere in the session, Mr Swinney said a decline in city-centre spending since the rise in remote and hybrid working had not been matched by an equivalent rise in spending on “local High Streets”.
“That might have happened a little bit, but certainly not to the extent that people were suggesting [during the pandemic],” he told the committee.
He added that suburban supermarkets had “probably been the biggest winner” from the shift in spending patterns since Covid.
He said more flexible working patterns had led to some immediate benefits for workers, including reduced travel cost and more flexibility.
But he added it could be “two, three, ten years down the line” before the long-term impact on economic productivity could be properly assessed.

Fijian Olympic rugby medallist Raisuqe dies in ******
Josaia Raisuqe, a Paris Olympics rugby sevens medalist for Fiji, has died in a road ****** at the age of 30.
Castres rugby club reported the news of the 30-year-old’s death on Thursday after the vehicle their player was using was reportedly hit by a train.
“Castres Olympique is in mourning,” the club said in a statement on its website. “It is with heavy hearts that we learned of the death this morning of our player Josaia Raisuqe in a road accident.
“The entire CO family is devastated by this terrible news. Josh had been a member of the club since 2021. He was a wonderful teammate, much loved by everyone, including the Castres supporters who had embraced him. We extend our sincere condolences and thoughts to his family and loved ones.”
Raisuqe had appeared on the wing for the Top 14 club less than two weeks ago.
He was in the Fiji team which won the Olympic silver medal in rugby sevens in Paris last year. He scored a try against the United States in pool play and started in the final against France.
He’s been playing club rugby in France since 2015, when he joined Top 14 champions Stade Francais.
He also played for second-division side Nevers, and got into an infamous incident in 2021 when, overjoyed by a win, he hoisted the referee over his head after the fulltime whistle. The ref gave him a red card.
The following season, Castres deployed Raisuqe as a flanker en route to the 2022 Top 14 final.
“He was a radiant boy on and off the field, a pillar of the Fijian community we have at the club and to which we are very attached,” Castres chairman Pierre-Yves Revol said.
“It is also difficult at this time not to mention the faith of all these (Fijian) players and of Josaia. My thoughts are with his fiancee and his entire family.”

U.S. and Britain Hail Trade Agreement but Leave Details to Be Settled
U.S. and Britain Hail Trade Agreement but Leave Details to Be Settled
President Trump said Britain had agreed to increase market access for billions of dollars of American exports, including beef, ethanol and other farm products under a new trade deal — but left many of the details to be worked out later.
The agreement — promoted by Mr. Trump as the first of many that will result from his efforts to blow up the global trading system — appeared to be more of a framework than a full trade deal. Both sides agreed to drop tariffs on specific products and made general agreements in other areas, but officials from both governments will still need to meet in the coming months to hammer out specific language. That can be a tricky and difficult process, leaving open the possibility the agreement could still fall apart.
Nevertheless, the leaders of both nations hailed the framework in joint announcements on Thursday that invoked the deep relationship between their countries. Speaking from the Oval Office and with Prime Minister Keir Starmer of Britain on speakerphone, Mr. Trump called it a “great deal for both countries.” Mr. Starmer called it a “really fantastic historic day” and invoked one of Mr. Trump’s favorite historical figures by noting that it was the 80th anniversary of Winston Churchill announcing victory in Europe in World War II.
The agreement will leave in place a 10 percent tariff that Mr. Trump imposed on Britain and other nations globally at the beginning of April. But it will pare back other tariffs Mr. Trump imposed on British steel, aluminum and automobiles. In return, the British will open up access to beef, poultry, ethanol, soft drinks, cereal and other products.
Britain’s government said tariffs on its auto exports to the United States would fall from 27.5 percent to 10 percent for a quota of 100,000 British vehicles. It also said U.S. tariffs on British steel would fall to zero. Mr. Trump’s commerce secretary, Howard Lutnick, said Rolls-Royce engines and plane parts will come over tariff-free, while the United Kingdom will buy $10 billion of Boeing airplanes.
Whatever deal that is finalized may ultimately be more important to Britain than the United States. Britain occupies the No. 11 spot among the United States’ biggest trading partners — it represented 2.9 percent of total U.S. trade in the first quarter of the year — while the United States is Britain’s largest single trading partner. Even so, most of that trading relationship is in services, which aren’t affected by tariffs.
Although Trump officials framed the deal as a result of the aggressive tariffs Mr. Trump imposed around the world, there has been longstanding interest in an agreement. Mr. Trump discussed the possibility of a trade deal with Britain in his first term, while British officials have eyed an agreement with the United States since Brexit as a way to offset reduced trade with Europe.
The two nations have relatively balanced trade: The United States sent $80 billion of machinery, airplanes, natural gas, crude oil and other products to Britain in 2024, while it bought $68 billion of cars, pharmaceuticals and other goods in return. A trade deal would provide Mr. Starmer a much-needed political victory, as well as vindication of his strategy of assiduously cultivating a relationship with Mr. Trump.
Stephen Castle, Maggie Haberman, Mark Landler, Tyler Pager and Jonathan Swan contributed reporting.

Quantum computers could protect our data from quantum computers
Quantum computers could protect our data from quantum computers
Could we fight quantum with quantum?
Bartlomiej Wroblewski / Alamy
A “useless” algorithm that serves as a benchmark for demonstrating the power of quantum computers over ordinary devices could potentially be repurposed as a way to keep data secure from, ironically, quantum computers.
Quantum computers have long threatened to crack existing encryption algorithms, which rely on problems that are difficult for classical computers to solve, such as finding the prime factors of a large number. A sufficiently big quantum computer could do this, but Bill Fefferman at the University of Chicago, Illinois, and his colleagues say the devices could also…

Titan Quest 2 Early Access Will Begin This Summer
Titan Quest 2 Early Access Will Begin This Summer
Titan Quest 2 will launch in early access this summer, a delay from its original release window, developer Grimoire Games has announced.
The nearly two-decade-later ARPG sequel was originally slated to release in early access months ago in late 2024 or early 2025. Titan Quest 2 missing that timeframe came from Grimoire Games wanting to avoid a “crowded ARPG release window and a desire to give the game the spotlight it deserves,” according to a press release. A specific early-access release date was not given.

Now Playing: Titan Quest 2 – Official Gameplay Features Overview Trailer
For context, Diablo 4’s Vessel of Hatred expansion launched in October 2024 and Path of Exile 2 launched in early access just a few months later in December. That would have definitely made it difficult for Titan Quest 2 to stand out among the two biggest names in the ARPG genre.
Grimoire Games, alongside the new release window, also outlined areas where players can expect changes and improvements ahead of early access based on feedback from recent playtests. That list of areas needing “refinement,” according to a press release, are combat fluidity, ability aiming, game balance, and performance optimization. The team will additionally add new customizable control schemes and better UI indicators based on player feedback.
Like its 2006 predecessor, Titan Quest 2 will drop players into ancient Greece to battle against mythological foes like Gryphons, Harpies, and Centaurs, this time on a quest to stop the goddess Nemesis from corrupting the Threads of Fate and condemning all who oppose her. Players will be able to choose from different combat masteries and combine two of them to create unique builds, with Titan Quest 2 aiming to be a challenging ARPG experience that will require players to dodge and use every skill at their disposal to overcome foes. The game will also feature crafting, allowing players to turn what normally would not be a great item into a more powerful one by adding affixes.
In other ARPG news, Diablo 4 Season 8 just began, revamping its endgame boss system and introducing a Berserk crossover, while developer Grinding Gear Games has been hard at work addressing complaints in regards to an unpopular major update to Path of Exile 2.

Former SK hynix employee transferred advanced chip packaging technologies to Huawei
Former SK hynix employee transferred advanced chip packaging technologies to Huawei
A former SK Hynix employee has been formally accused of illegally transferring technologies related to advanced chip packaging used for 3D NAND, HBM, and multi-chiplet assemblies as well as CMOS image sensors to Huawei’s HiSilicon division, reports DigiTimes citing the Seoul Central District Prosecutor’s office. There is an interesting wrinkle in this story: Huawei’s HiSilicon did not directly ask for specific technologies.
While working at Huawei, the suspect allegedly took IP related to CMOS image sensors (CIS) and hybrid bonding chip packaging technology that is used for 3D NAND, HBM3/HBM3E/HBM4 memory, as well as advanced stacked multi-chiplet packages (e.g., TSMC’s SoIC and Intel’s Foveros 3D). It is unclear whether the suspect’s targets were hybrid bonding and image sensors, or ‘just’ hybrid bonding as modern CMOS sensors also use hybrid bonding.
SK Hynix reportedly clarified that the leaked bonding-related information concerned general wafer-to-wafer processes and not the specific hybrid bonding technique currently being developed or used for commercial products.
For ******** companies like Huawei (which does not have access to advanced process technologies and packaging methods used by TSMC and SK hynix) as well as SMIC (which does not have access to the latest lithography equipment made by ASML), getting wafer bonding know-how from SK hynix, which had licensed such technologies from Xperi, may be considered as a major breakthrough as wafer bonding is becoming increasingly important for multiple semiconductor applications.
The individual in question, a South Korean citizen named only in the complaint by his surname, Kim, previously worked for the ******** unit of SK hynix. Authorities allege that in 2022 he secured a position with HiSilicon and, during the hiring process, improperly accessed and misused internal data belonging to SK hynix.
Kim reportedly printed out and captured photographs of internal files against policy. Investigators discovered that over 11,000 photographs of confidential content were taken, and steps were allegedly made to mask the origin by removing company identifiers such as brand logos and secrecy labels from the images.
Evidence indicates that Kim submitted these materials as part of job applications to two separate companies in China, using them to enhance his qualifications. Authorities now claim this was a calculated effort to secure employment using unlawfully obtained information from his former employer.
The report confirms that many technologies developed in China in general and by Huawei specifically originate from multi-national corporations. But there is an interesting twist: Huawei did not explicitly ask the suspect to bring it SK hynix’s trade secrets (even though the company is known for poaching highly-skilled employees from world-class companies by offering them huge salaries), but accepted them as part of the hiring process.
Get Tom’s Hardware’s best news and in-depth reviews, straight to your inbox.
The case has drawn attention in South Korea due to rising concerns about the outflow of specialized semiconductor knowledge, specifically as China is trying hard to achieve semiconductor self-sufficiency. It highlights the increasing risks around workforce migration and the global effort to enforce tighter control over the transmission of high-value industrial IP.
This is not the first time when an SK hynix employee left for Huawei and takes the company’s IP with them. Last year the Suwon District Court sentenced one of SK hynix’s employees who departed to Huawei with 4,000 secret documents to 18 months behind bars and a fine.

Why Nvidia and Chip Stocks Are on the Rise
Why Nvidia and Chip Stocks Are on the Rise
Semiconductor stocks got a jolt on Wednesday afternoon and the rally continued into Thursday after the Trump administration eased a regulation that impacted the industry.
Specifically, the administration announced that it was rolling back a measure that put restrictions on chip exports. The AI diffusion rule, established at the end of the Joe Biden presidency, was designed to limit how many AI chips countries could acquire from the U.S. without a special license.
The idea, in effect, was to prevent ******** companies from using shell companies to buy advanced AI chips from U.S. chip manufacturers, thus helping the U.S. maintain its lead in advanced chip innovations.
This rule was set to go into effect on May 15 and while it would protect U.S. interests, it would reduce revenue for AI chipmakers and designers, like NVIDIA (NASDAQ:) and AMD (NASDAQ:). In the first quarter earnings report, AMD CEO Lisa Su said the company was expecting a $700 million revenue hit in Q2 from the new export controls on China.
But it appears that semiconductor stocks will get some relief.
Rule Was “Overly Complex”
On Wednesday, the U.S. Commerce department said it would rescind the rule, effectively stopping it from going into effect on May 15. The plan is to replace it with a new, less complex rule.
“The Biden AI rule is overly complex, overly bureaucratic, and would stymie American innovation. We will be replacing it with a much simpler rule that unleashes American innovation and ensures American AI dominance,” a spokesperson from the Department of Commerce said, reported CNBC.
There was no timetable on when the new rule would be in place nor were there any details on what it would look like.
But the rescission was cheered by semiconductor firms, including NVIDIA.
“We welcome the Administration’s leadership and new direction on AI policy,” a Nvidia spokesperson said in a statement, reported CNBC. “With the AI Diffusion Rule revoked, America will have a once-in-a-generation opportunity to lead the next industrial revolution and create high-paying U.S. jobs, build new U.S.-supplied infrastructure, and alleviate the trade deficit.”
Semiconductor stocks on the jumped about 2.7% on Wednesday afternoon after the news was initially reported.
NVIDIA stock jumped 3% on the news Wednesday and opened on Thursday up about 1%, trading at $118 per share. Intel (NASDAQ:) stock rose 4% on Thursday after climbing almost 2% on Wednesday. AMD stock was also trending higher, rising 2% in early trading Thursday after making a similar leap Wednesday.

Older cardinals can’t vote in the conclave, but they have thoughts on the proceedings.
Older cardinals can’t vote in the conclave, but they have thoughts on the proceedings.
While younger cardinals are busy choosing the new pope in a series of votes in ******** City, older cardinals — those age 80 and over who are not allowed to vote — are mostly waiting it out like the rest of us. But many of them attended the meetings that preceded the conclave, where cardinals spent days contemplating who should be their next pope, and they have thoughts.
An Italian cardinal, Gianfranco Ravasi, who is 82 and not voting in the conclave, said that he had been impressed by a speech made by Cardinal Jean-Marc Aveline of Marseille, France, who has emerged as a papal contender. Cardinal Aveline, who is learning Italian, read his speech in “perfect Italian,” Cardinal Ravasi said, adding, “He only got two accents wrong.”
Cardinal Fridolin Ambongo, 65, the archbishop of Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo, also a potential candidate, made a “finely tuned,” speech, Cardinal Ravasi said.
During the conclave, the cardinals stay at the Casa Santa Marta, a guesthouse in the ********. Cardinal Domenico Calcagno, an Italian who was an elector for Francis but, at 82, is not voting this year, said in an interview on Thursday that lunches and dinners there can be decisive. “At the table, you exchange opinions and assessments and you talk freely,” Cardinal Calcagno said.
Except for Wednesday, when the first ballot took place, the cardinals participate in four rounds of voting every day — two in the morning and two in the afternoon — until a candidate achieves a two-thirds majority. The ballots are burned up to twice a day, once in the morning and once in the afternoon, and smoke emitted from a purpose-built chimney above the Sistine Chapel signals the result — ****** smoke for no decision, white if a pope has been chosen.
Cardinal Calcagno said that, in general, the first ballot is a “dress rehearsal” to see which names might have a shot. After that, “someone must let go of their first choice and move to someone else’s choice,” he said. “They assess the most-voted names, and based on that, they decide.”
Cardinal Calcagno said that cardinals do not get a midmorning or a midafternoon break. “It takes time to read the formula and take the oath,” he said. “The last thing we need is a coffee break.”
In the evening, while some of the cardinals decide to pray in the chapel, others walk around Casa Santa Marta and hang out with their peers. “You can meet cardinals from other nations, whom you hadn’t yet directly talked to, and get your thoughts straight,” Cardinal Calcagno said.

Stardew Valley 2 is on the table, but don’t hold your breath
Stardew Valley 2 is on the table, but don’t hold your breath
Indie game developer Eric “ConcernedApe” Barone is not opposed to developing Stardew Valley 2, but we shouldn’t get too excited. He also still doesn’t wanna be known as the Stardew Valley guy, which makes sense as he puts more effort into developing Haunted Chocolatier.
Speaking with TigerBelly, Barone said he may eventually make a sequel to the hit farming sim, but noted it’s “so much easier to just add more stuff to Stardew Valley than to make a whole new game from scratch.”
Of course, considering past comments surrounding his dedication to Stardew Valley, throwing around that he’ll be supporting the game 50 years in the future, it’s fair to say that we’ll probably be in for a long, long, long wait.

Upwork’s Earnings Beat Fuels Stock Rally—Is Freelancing Booming?
Upwork’s Earnings Beat Fuels Stock Rally—Is Freelancing Booming?
Upwork (NASDAQ:) Inc. experienced a notable stock increase after its first-quarter 2025 financial results exceeded analyst forecasts.
This positive market reaction, driven by robust earnings and an optimistic outlook, highlights the global work marketplace.
While the company’s strategies seem to be effective, its performance raises a larger question: Does Upwork’s recent success signify a long-term expansion of the freelance economy, with the platform poised to benefit from changing work models?
Upwork’s Q1: Revenue Up, Profits Soar
Upwork started 2025 on solid financial footing. First-quarter results, ending March 31, modestly topped estimates, with revenue rising 1% year-over-year (YOY) to $192.7 million.
That growth drove a sharp jump in profitability. GAAP net income surged to $37.7 million ($0.27 per diluted share), up from $18.4 million ($0.13) a year earlier. Adjusted EBITDA hit $56.0 million, a 68% YOY increase, with margin expanding from 17% to 29%. Management raised full-year adjusted EBITDA guidance to $190–$200 million, while maintaining its revenue forecast of $740–$760 million. Free cash flow more than doubled to $30.8 million.
Operational metrics also support the company’s growth trajectory. Gross Services Volume (GSV) dipped 2.1% YOY to $987.7 million, but GSV per active client rose 3% to $4,912. While the total client base declined 7% to 812,000, deeper engagement and higher spend per user suggest Upwork is moving upmarket toward more valuable client relationships.
How Upwork’s Strategies Are Delivering Results
Upwork’s first-quarter performance was driven by strategic initiatives focused on artificial intelligence (AI), enterprise solutions, and enhanced monetization. AI is central to Upwork’s platform strategy, with its AI-powered work companion, Uma, experiencing significant user engagement growth. Features like the Uma-powered Proposal Writer and its homepage presence have significantly boosted user interaction.
While direct revenue from Uma is developing, these AI features aim to improve user experience and increase spending, aligning with Upwork’s ambition to be a leading AI-native marketplace, evidenced by the substantial growth in GSV from AI-related work and the higher earnings of AI-skilled freelancers.
Upwork is also enhancing its offerings for larger organizations, as demonstrated by the significant growth in its Upwork Business Plus client base, with a substantial portion of these clients being new to the platform. Additionally, Managed Services revenue saw a steady increase in the first quarter.
The company’s diverse monetization strategies are also yielding positive results, with strong YOY revenue growth from ads and monetization features, Premium freelancer subscriptions, and the ***** of “Connects,” which is Upwork’s platform currency.
Upwork and the Expanding Freelance Ecosystem
Upwork’s financial success occurs within the context of a dynamic global labor market that continues to embrace flexible and independent work models. The company’s own “Future Workforce Index,” released in April 2025, found that 28% of U.S. skilled knowledge workers now operate independently, collectively generating an estimated $1.5 trillion in earnings.
This underscores a significant and growing segment of the workforce choosing or turning to freelance arrangements.
Hayden Brown, Upwork’s President and CEO, has consistently emphasized the company’s mission “to create economic opportunities, so people have better lives,” aligning Upwork’s trajectory with this fundamental shift in how work is done.
While Upwork’s strategic execution remains vital, its performance also serves as a broader indicator of how well both talent and businesses are embracing the freelance model.
Capitalizing on the Evolving Definition of Work
Upwork’s earnings report for the first quarter of 2025 provides a compelling narrative for the company’s current trajectory. The positive market reaction reflects a renewed confidence in its ability to execute and capitalize on key technological shifts.
The question of whether this success signals a broader, durable strengthening of the freelance economy leans towards a cautious affirmative. Trends such as increased remote work adoption, the demand for specialized skills, and the growing acceptance of flexible talent models provide a supportive macro environment.
Upwork, with its established platform and forward-looking AI initiatives, is well-positioned to benefit from these ongoing shifts.
However, the journey is unlikely to be without its challenges. Navigating a competitive market, adapting to economic fluctuations, and managing the intricacies of client acquisition will be critical.
While Upwork’s recent “magic” in its financial results is evident, the true test will be its ability to consistently convert these evolving work trends into sustained, profitable growth, solidifying its role not just as a marketplace but as a fundamental pillar in the future of work.

South African journalist’s decomposed body found, colleagues say
South African journalist’s decomposed body found, colleagues say
The bodies of a journalist and his partner have been found in South Africa in an advanced stage of decomposition, more than two months after they went missing, local media groups have said.
Police said they had found human remains, but DNA tests still needed to be conducted to confirm they were those of radio journalist Sibusiso Aserie Ndlovu and his partner Zodwa Precious Mdhluli.
In a joint statement, two media groups said that police had achieved a breakthrough after arresting five suspects.
The couple were murdered and their bodies dumped in a bush in northern Limpopo province, the media groups said, adding that the deaths had left them in shock and disbelief.
The suspects had reportedly been arrested with stolen furniture, appliances and the parts of a car belonging to the couple who had been missing since 18 February.
Ndlovu was the founder of a local radio station, Capital Live, in South Africa’s capital Pretoria.
The African Media and Communicators Forum (AMCF) and the National Press Club (NPC) said that a forensic team had already identified the remains as those of the couple.
“I am terribly sad. We held out hope that despite the number of days that the couple had gone missing, they would still be found alive. Our deepest condolences go out to the families of our brother and sister,” said AMCF chairperson Elijah Mhlanga.
South Africa has one of the highest crime rates in the world, with many people living in fear.
Official data showed that 26,232 murders took place in 2024, an average of 72 per day.

The fourth main entry in the ****** series will be released on August 8, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S and PC (via Steam and Nvidia GeForce Now).

This will also be accompanied by a $59.99 Deluxe Edition, which includes the following extra items:
Padrino Pack

Players who pre-order either edition of the game will also get the Soldato Pack, which contains the Soldato Outfit, the Scannaturi Speciale Knife, the Tesoro Horse and accessories and the Lupara Charm.
The game’s price point appears to reflect its place in 2K’s library as a title with a standalone, linear storyline, as opposed to the live service games also offered by the publisher.
“We think there’s a large audience for compelling stories that don’t require massive time commitments,” 2K president David Ismailer said in a statement. “We’re excited to offer a game like ******: The Old Country in our portfolio, and to provide a linear highly-polished narrative experience that can easily complement the other more persistent games our players also love and engage with on a more consistent basis.”
The release date and price news was assisted by a new gameplay trailer which shows the game in action, in particular its refined stealth mechanics.
“******: The Old Country is a focused, linear experience that combines quality storytelling, authentic era immersion and a refined take on the familiar ****** gameplay,” Hangar 13 president Nick Baynes said in a statement.
“That focus allows us to deliver a story that’s gritty, grounded, brutal and emotional. Embracing early 1900s era Sicily, this is a ****** origin story that follows our protagonist, Enzo Favara, as he takes the oath and works his way up Don Torrisi’s crime family.”

2,000 Young People in *** Encounter God at All-Night Prayer Gathering: ‘A Sense of Holy Awe’
2,000 Young People in *** Encounter God at All-Night Prayer Gathering: ‘A Sense of Holy Awe’
Signs of a spiritual shift are becoming more evident in the United Kingdom as young people flock to churches in search of healing, freedom, and deliverance. In the latest evidence that the tide is turning, more than 2,000 young people gathered to seek God in an all-night prayer and worship event.
As CBN News has been reporting recently, the U.K. was a difficult place to share the Gospel for decades, but that has been changing due to what some are calling a “Quiet Revival.”
“In the last 6 years, the Brits have seen identifying as a Christian and church attendance amongst 18-24 year-olds increase from 4% to 16% and amongst 25-34 year-olds from 4% to 13%!! This a part of what is being called ‘The Quiet Revival’ in the U.K,” explained Dave Ferguson, lead pastor of Community church, in a post on Instagram.
Al Gordon, pastor of Saint Church, has been a part of leading a bimonthly prayer gathering in Britain that is at the forefront of this “spiritual awakening.”
Just last weekend, more than 2,000 young adults packed out Saint Church’s Hackney location for the all-night prayer and worship event that was marked by worship, salvations, and “deep repentance.”
Gordon wrote about the remarkable night on Instagram, describing, “Extraordinary scenes: a thick and heavy sense of God’s presence, dozens giving their lives to Christ, healing, freedom. I want to encourage those of you who were there to journal, record, and continue to pray without ceasing.”
The event, which was a collaboration between Saint Church, King’s Cross Church, and Imprint Church, ran from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m., the outlet reports.
Gordon shared that there were stories of healing, deliverance, salvation, and spontaneous worship, and the presence of God was so thick that more than 500 people stayed beyond the event in a scene reminiscent of the early moments of the 2023 Asbury revival, saying “it could have gone on longer.”
“There was a thick and heavy sense of God’s presence. Dozens giving their lives to Christ, healing, freedom. Moments of extraordinary weight and glory,” Gordon told Relevant Magazine. “Singing like I’ve never heard: passion, raw, hunger.”
Gordon posted more online, highlighting that there were “many moments when the whole gathering felt compelled to get on their faces.”
“A sense of holy awe,” he described.
“Hours where the band could not lead, but the singing continues. Spontaneous power falling on people. Sometimes profound silence. Other times shouts, groans, weeping,” Gordon continued. “One thing is certain: we are witnessing a profound and sovereign spiritual moment. If you will make room for the Lord, call on him while he is near, he will come and meet you. You can’t orchestrate this, all you can do is humble your heart, go low, cry out for the heavy rain, and he will come.”
It is a powerful example of what has been taking place among young people around the globe.
CBN News has been following multiple revival moments over the past two years on U.S. college campuses.
According to Intervarsity, an evangelical Christian student movement with affiliate groups on university campuses, decisions for Christ rose by 33 percent last year. The Fellowship of Christian Athletes reports its highest number of salvations since the pandemic, and the international ministry, Cru, recently surpassed the one million mark in commitments to faith globally.
“It really has been such an incredible season to minister to college campuses since Asbury,” Thai Lam, Executive Director of the CDOP, told CBN’s Faith Nation.
Pastor Ferguson believes this move of God is crossing the Atlantic.
“There is early evidence that it is also moving across the Atlantic to the United States. I personally believe this is coming our direction,” he explained.
Gordon pointed out that, “at the end of the day, the true sign of God at work is not numbers, or experience even, it’s lives transformed, made new, sent out.”

Remedy’s next big game is being made for less money, but can still be great, CEO says
Remedy’s next big game is being made for less money, but can still be great, CEO says
toxic-inferno84d ago
I’m not sure it’s about greed. I am one of the fans who waited until the physical version was released (I’ve only just played it, as a matter of fact).
Remedy’s games are a hard sell in most regards. The nature of the story appeals to a smaller group of people than the average game with it’s level of ambition. As a result, and to ensure they can release the game they want to make, they are required to partner with companies that impose restrictions and make decisions like seen in this case.
Remedy is not complaining that it has only just become profitable. They are used to this. I think it has been said that Alan Wake II is the game of theirs that has turned a profit quickest.
Out of all the developers out there, I think they are possibly one of the least greedy. Many other developers would choose to make decisions that increase their financial takings – Remedy seems to make decisions that allow them to release the game they want to release, without sacrificing the vision that they have.

How to View Your Command History in Any Linux Operating System
How to View Your Command History in Any Linux Operating System
Remember that one command that solved your problem? Was it cat, less, more, wc or something else? When we’re at the terminal, we can issue dozens of commands to solve a problem and in the background our Linux OS is recording these commands to a history file.
In this how-to we’ll look at various ways of searching and re-using our command history. Whilst you become accustomed to these commands it’s important to double check you don’t unintentionally reissue a command that could cause problems. Take your time using these new techniques and double check the details before pressing enter!
All the commands in this how-to will work on most Linux machines. We’ve used an Ubuntu install but you could run this how-to on a Raspberry Pi. All of the how-to is performed via the Terminal. You can open a terminal window on most Linux machines by pressing ctrl, alt and t or by searching for the terminal app in your Applications menu.
The simplest way to look through your recent commands is to use the up and down arrow keys on your keyboard to scroll through the previous commands. If you want to reissue a found command simply press the enter key.
Viewing Your Command History in Linux
The history command, in its most basic use case, lists and annotates the last 1000 commands issued in the terminal emulator. Each command has a number associated with it.
1. Run the history command to see a list of the last 1000 commands. You’ll see that all the listed historical commands are given a unique reference number.
history
2. Reissue the history command but constrain the amount of results to a specific number. This is useful if you know roughly when a command you are looking for was issued. You should see only the last 20 results listed.

Reissue a Previous Command
Now we can use history to view our previous commands, we can choose and reissue a command using the number assigned to the history results.
1. Run history 20 to create a list of commands, choose a command to reissue making sure that the chosen command is safe to run. Choosing a simple command like cd Music (1660) is a good safe example. Note there is no space between the exclamation mark and the command number.
history 20
!1660
Enhanced Linux History Search using Grep
By piping the output of history into grep we can perform a search of our command history returning results for a specified term or string. This is an excellent approach for finding a partially remembered command.
1. Search for a specific term using history and grep. We used the example search term “silhouette” as we recalled we had issued some commands to rectify a problem with a silhouette vinyl cutter. Replace that search term with something suited to your machine.
history | grep silhouette
Using a Reverse Search of Linux Command History
Another handy approach to retrieve previous Linux commands is to use the reverse search function built into the terminal. To enter this mode you simply press ctrl and r. You can then enter a search term and use repeat presses of ctrl and r to step back through the list of previous commands containing that term. When you find a command you want to reissue press enter.
1. Press ctrl and r enters the reverse search mode, you should see the prompt now reads (reverse I search)`’:
2. Type a search term and you should see the last command issued that contained this term. For example we added the search term sudo to show the previous commands issued with sudo privileges.
3. Repeat pressing ctrl and r to step through other results.
4. Run a previous command by pressing enter or quit the reverse search by pressing esc .
Quickly Reissuing the Previous Linux Command
Often we will want to simply rerun the last command we issued. We can achieve this simply using the !! command.
1. Run the ls command to set this as the example to test.
ls
2. Reissue the last command using !!. Note that the previous command is listed and performed.
!!
Sometimes we may try to reuse a command that requires elevated privileges, for example editing a file outside of our home directory. To do this we can preface the previous command with sudo. In the following example we append the first ls command to be reissued with sudo.
sudo !!
Hiding Your Commands from Linux History
There may come a time where you need to keep a command out of your history, and if that scenario ever occurs, all you need to do is preface the command with a single press of the spacebar.
For example here are two ls commands, the second has a single space, hiding it from the history file.
ls
ls
With a little practice all the above approaches become quite instinctive to use and can make your terminal session more powerful and efficient. The ability to locate and reissue commands is extremely useful, especially when recovering a rarely used command or a command that was hard to create in the first instance.
