  1. Xabi Alonso: A new era at Real Madrid with Carlo Ancelotti’s successor decided Xabi Alonso: A new era at Real Madrid with Carlo Ancelotti’s successor decided On the pitch, the team lost coherence. The dressing room – once unified by Ancelotti’s steady hand – began to fragment. Key players stopped listening to him, others grew weary of his hands-off approach. Perhaps most destabilising was the rivalry between Vinicius and Mbappe. Both wanted to be the face of the team. Mbappe preferred to play centrally, but Vinicius believed he had earned top billing. There was no open conflict, but the on-pitch dynamic spoke volumes. In critical moments, they did not look for each other. The tension was visible to staff and team-mates alike. Ancelotti, usually the master of ego management, struggled and admitted privately it was one of the hardest changing rooms to manage in his career. On some occasions, pre-match media briefings became short and irritable, with Ancelotti feeling he was not getting the club support he thought he deserved. He had asked for right-back Kyle Walker in January to cover for long-term injuries to Dani Carvajal and Eder Militao, but the request was rejected. Outwardly, the 65-year-old remained respectful. He repeated the same line, “I will stay at Madrid until the club no longer wants me.” To fans, that echoed loyalty. But to Perez, it sounded like pressure. Now, as the season nears its end, the Brazil job stands as Ancelotti’s next frontier. Discussions with the CBF (Brazilian Football Confederation) have intensified, with meetings held in London and Madrid. Brazil, amid a turbulent World Cup 2026 qualification campaign, had hoped to secure his signature immediately, but Ancelotti insisted “nothing until after the season ends”. There is also a financial situation to resolve. Real might not want to pay the rest of his contract until 2026 as Ancelotti has shown, with those meetings, his desire to leave. Ancelotti wants the club to recognise they are the ones letting him go and, consequently, he should have a pay-off. The plan now is clear. Finish the La Liga season and, if the financial situation is resolved, allow someone else to coach at the Fifa Club World Cup, perhaps Santi Solari, one of the club’s decision-makers and a former player. And then the club and manager will begin new chapters. This time it can be a graceful, fitting transition – if all the pieces fall into place. One of the most interesting subplots is the future of assistant Davide Ancelotti. The younger Ancelotti has built a formidable reputation alongside his father, from PSG to Bayern Munich, Napoli, Everton, and now Real. But with his profile higher than ever, and interest from top European clubs growing, this will be the moment he sets out on his own. Davide has always dreamed of becoming a head coach. That decision, like many around the Madrid bench right now, remains pending – but imminent. 3. How consumers prepare for an economic hit How consumers prepare for an economic hit Americans have been worried about being able to maintain their standard of living since inflation first began to spike in 2021. With renewed cost concerns after President Donald Trump implemented his tariff agenda, many people are prepared to do something about it. A whopping 83% of consumers said that if their financial situation worsens in the coming months, they will strongly consider cutting back on their non-essential spending, according to a new study by Intuit Credit Karma, which polled more than 2,000 U.S. adults in April. On TikTok, money saving hacks, with hashtags such as no buy, slow buy, low buy and underconsumption, have skyrocketed in popularity, especially among young adults. All are aimed at making the most of what you already have and resisting the temptation to buy more stuff, or even anything at all. How no buy, low buy and slow buy challenges work “No buy 2025” encourages shoppers to cut out all non-essential purchases for the year, including clothing, books, electronics and entertainment. Alternatively, low buy and slow buy advocate for a more mindful approach to buying decisions, such as following “the 48-hour rule” before making any discretionary purchases and limiting purchases altogether. The goal is to break the habit of overspending — or “doom spending” — as fears of a recession rise. Recent data from H&R Block’s Spruce also found that 68% of Generation Z consumers reported being influenced by social media finance trends, with over one-third of them looking specifically to social media for financial knowledge. (America’s young adults are also increasingly turning to social media to express their financial dissatisfaction, making a joke of so-called recession indicators.) Why savings challenges are so popular To be sure, Americans are feeling the pain of higher prices, with various reports showing many have exhausted their savings and have been leaning on credit cards to make ends meet. With sweeping U.S. tariffs now going into effect, concern is heightened about the rising cost of goods and making ends meet, especially as the economy shows signs of contracting. “Consumers are going to have to pay for the increase in prices these tariffs are going to cause and there is no way around it,” said Eugenio Aleman, chief economist at Raymond James. “The alternative is to reduce consumption, especially in discretionary items.” More from Personal Finance: Is now a good time to buy gold? Why tariffs will hurt low income Americans more than rich What stagflation risks mean for your money A survey by Gallup last month found that inflation, housing costs and lack of money are the most commonly cited financial challenges by U.S. adults. According to the poll, which was conducted during a ******* of extreme market volatility after the Trump administration announced new tariffs on most U.S. trading partners, a record 53% of consumers said their financial situation was getting worse, while just 38% said it was getting better. Additionally, 57% worried about not being able to maintain their standard of living. A separate report by Bankrate found that 43% of adults said money now negatively affects their mental health, at least occasionally, causing anxiety, stress, worrisome thoughts, loss of sleep and depression. “Tariffs, inflation, higher interest rates and a recession are all forces that Americans can’t prevent, no matter how much they want to,” Sarah Foster, Bankrate’s economic analyst, said in an email. “Taking proactive steps to manage your finances can provide a sense of stability and security.” A better way to improve your finances Financial experts say TikTok’s latest microtrends can provide a short-term boost to help reach some savings goals, however, there is no substitute for practicing good long-term habits. “Ignore what others are doing with their money,” said Daniel Milan, managing partner of Cornerstone Financial Services in Southfield, Michigan. “That to me is a very foundational tenet for any household.” Milan says financial planning starts with a budget. “People don’t like that word,” he said. But rather than jumping on the latest TikTok trend, “sit down and pencil out what you actually are spending.” Milan recommends flagging excess expenses that can be cut, considering which are “wants” or “needs.” Milan says he did this himself at the start of the year after getting married, and was able to cut out some recurring bills as well as subscription services that overlapped with his wife’s — to the tune of $800 a month. “That type of exercise can be extraordinarily powerful from a cash flow perspective,” he said. Nearly all of the matte-****** 10-layer PCB is covered by shrouds and heatsinks or the EZ Bridge. On top of the VRM heatsink is one of three RGB features, this one sporting the MSI Dragon. On top of the EZ Bridge is a 3.99-inch full-color TFT offering several features, including real-time hardware monitoring, troubleshooting, BIOS update status, and clock display. You can also personalize it with your own image. The bottom is covered in plate-style heatsinks with a powder-coat finish, along with grooves for increased thermal dissipation. The top M.2 heatsink and chipset also feature RGB lighting. Overall, the board exudes a premium vibe, and the all-****** look is sure to blend in with most builds, while the Dynamic Dashboard III feature sets it apart from others. (Image credit: MSI) Focusing on the top half of the board, we gain a clearer view of the RGB feature and the VRM heatsink, which features a wavy fin design and a direct-touch cross-heatpipe. This design, in part, comprises the Frozr design, which also includes the backplate, thermal pads, and other components. There’s plenty of mass and surface area to keep the high-end power delivery components running cool, no matter which processor and what overclock you’re using. To the right of the CPU socket are four DRAM slots with a locking mechanism on the bottom side only. MSI lists support for up to 256GB of DDR5 RAM with speeds up to 9200+ MT/s. We had no issues running our DDR5-8200 kit during testing, and I’m sure the board will reach advertised speeds with the proper kit and chip. (Image credit: Tom’s Hardware) MSI’s EZ Bridge consolidates multiple headers and connectors into a single area. With all headers on one side, it creates a more organized cluster of cables, as opposed to having them scattered across the board. At the top are the two front-panel headers, the hub connection, dual 2-pin thermistor headers, tuning controller header, EZConn header, and a USB 2.0 header. At the bottom, there are a total of three fan headers, an ATX and *** Power Connector (up to 60W for the motherboard), a front-panel 20 Gbps USB Type-C header, and an additional Type-C connector for front-panel Thunderbolt 4 support. For most users, the three available 4-pin fan headers won’t be sufficient. But don’t fret, as MSI includes the EZ Control Hub with seven additional fan headers, a 3-pin water flow header, two 3-pin ARGB headers, and a single 4-pin RGB header. The Sys fan headers output 1A/12W, the CPU Fan header 2A/24W, and the two pump headers each output 3A/36W. If you find yourself short on power or headers, you may want to re-evaluate your needs. MSI’s EZ Bridge streamlines cable management by grouping numerous headers and connectors on one side of the motherboard. This creates a concentrated (albeit busy) area for connections, which can be more organized than a scattered set of headers. This consolidated section includes: two front panel headers, the hub connection, two 2-pin thermistor headers, a tuning controller header, an EZConn header, and a USB 2.0 header. Located along the bottom edge are three fan headers, an ATX and *** Power Connector (supporting up to 60W for the board), a front panel 20 Gbps USB Type-C header, and another Type-C connector enabling front panel Thunderbolt 4. (Image credit: Tom’s Hardware) Power delivery on this board is one of the ‘Godlike’ features. Totaling a whopping 30 phases, MSI splits off 26 dedicated to Vcore. Power heads from the two 8-pin EPS connectors at the top of the board onto the Renesas RAA229131 PWM controller. Power then goes to the 26 Renesas R2209004 110A SPS MOSFETs in a Deut Rail configuration. Some napkin math yields 2,860A available to Vcore, which is enough to support any overclocking adventure, even sub-ambient sessions. You’ll get everything the chip will give you with this board. Image 1 of 1 (Image credit: MSI) On the bottom half of the board, on the left and hidden under metal shrouds, is the flagship Realtek ALC4082 audio codec. Supporting the codec is the ESS9219Q DAC/HBA Combo. This is one of the best native audio solutions available; anything better will come from a discrete sound card. In the middle of the board are two full-length PCIe slots and a single x4 slot. The top two slots are reinforced and PCIe 5.0-capable. The top slot supports up to PCIe 5.0 x16, while the bottom slot supports up to x8. Anytime the bottom slot is in use, the top slot drops to x8. When using the Xpander-x Slider Gen5 card in that slot, it splits to 5.0 x4/x4. If you have an M.2 drive in M.2_6, the second slot runs at 5.0 x4. You can configure the lanes in the BIOS (Advanced> PCIe Subsystem settings). Lastly, the bottom x4 slot operates at PCIe 4.0 speeds and connects directly through the chipset. Hiding underneath plate heatsinks and one slightly larger heatsink are six M.2 sockets. M.2_1 hides under the RGB-topped heatsink and runs at PCIe 5.0 x4 (218 Gbps). M.2_2-5 are all PCIe 4.0 x4 (64 Gbps). M.2_5 also supports SATA- based M.2 modules. M.2_6 is unique, as it connects through the chipset and CPU, running up to PCIe 5.0 x4. If, somehow, these six M.2 sockets aren’ t enough, the included M.2 Xpander-z Slider Gen5 card adds two more PCIe 5. 0 x 4- capable sockets. I like how the board separates the generally hot-running PCIe 5.0 M.2s, with the second on the bottom and not tucked directly under a video card. Along the right edge are several more headers, including two 19-pin USB 3.2 Gen 1 (5Gbps) for USB, and another PCIe 6+2 pin for additional board/PCIe power. Next to that are the four SATA ports, a USB 2.0 header, and finally, the front-panel audio. If you’re wondering where some connectivity is, it’s probably along the right edge. While an overwhelming majority of headers and connectivity run down the entire right edge, there are still some other headers and switches along the bottom. You’ll find things like the TB 5 header, LED and BIOS switches, and even a couple for extreme overclocking. Below is a complete list, from left to right. Reset and Power jumpers Thunderbolt 5 header Dashboard/LED/BIOS switches TPM header Power LED 1 Slow Mode/LN2 Battery OC retry button connector Safe boot jumper (Image credit: MSI) Looking at the rear IO, the first thing that jumped out to me is the copious number of USB ports. You can connect just about anything back here, including the fast Thunderbolt 4 (40 Gbps) Type-C. In the middle are three convenience buttons (Flash BIOS, Clear CMOS, Smart Button), Marvell 10 GbE and Killer 5 GbE ports, Killer-based Wi-Fi antenna connections, and last, the 2-plug plus SPDIF audio stack. Although it’s not part of the rear IO the included Thunderbolt 5 accessory card adds even faster ports to the back of the PC. Boasting 160 Gbps transmission speeds (120/40) it’s the fastest port around. The two DisplayPorts support multiple 8K external displays and 27W charging power. What’s missing? Established earlier this year and led by France and Britain, the coalition reflects concern among Europeans that the U.S. no longer represents a bulwark of support for Ukraine’s three-year-old battle against a full-blown Russian invasion. “We need this coalition, and it should be strong enough to guarantee security in line with our common vision,” Zelenskiy said in a video address published by his office in Kyiv. Progress on what role Europe might play in providing post-war security guarantees is proving difficult with the prospect of a ceasefire distant and much dependent on how Russia responds and to what extent the U.S. would support its allies. Carlton defender Mitch McGovern taken to hospital after crunching hit from Liam O’Connell Carlton defender Mitch McGovern taken to hospital after crunching hit from Liam O’Connell Carlton defender Mitch McGovern was taken to hospital with a suspected breathing issue during his side’s Round 9 AFL clash with St Kilda after a heavy hit from Liam O’Connell. McGovern was met front-on after running back with the flight of a handball from teammate Patrick Cripps, cannoning into the brick wall that was O’Connell, who executed a crunching but fair bump. The Blues interceptor was clearly rocked by the hit, throwing his head back before he even hit the ground. When he did land on the turf, he reached straight for the upper part of his sternum. Abbey Holmes said at quarter-time that Carlton had ruled out any suggestion of a concussion. “Confirmation from the Blues that Mitch McGovern has been subbed out of this clash,” she said. “It isn’t a HIA concern, they have said it’s more of a sternum injury to McGovern.” If you’d like to view this content, please adjust your Cookie Settings. Wanganeen-Milera hobbled away from the density straight away before attempting to take the kick in. Unable to take it, he had to give the ball away to a teammate and limp off. Initial fears that the star defender had done some damage to his foot were later relieved by St Kilda medical staff, who sent him back out onto the field. Later, in what was becoming a night of injury carnage, Carlton utility Blake Acres came off with a shoulder problem and immediately went down into the rooms. “Acres is in a lot of pain, he’s coming straight from the ground now with that right shoulder,” Holmes said. Carlton defender Lachie Cowan was also taken off with a hamstring complaint. Acres later returned to finish the game. Apart from a new story, the ambitious sequel promises more innovation, player freedom, updated visuals, and package delivery through stunning landscapes across Mexico and Australia, all thanks to the Decima engine. However, with new content comes the threat of new enemy types. Death Stranding 2: On The Beach introduces dangerous new enemies that are sure to test players as they fight horrors beyond comprehension in an effort to save humanity. But worry not, as the game also provides new weapons to take down these looming threats. A new type of BT and new human enemies haunt Sam in Death Stranding 2: On the Beach A hands-on report of Death Stranding 2: On The Beach, published on the PlayStation blog, detailing new information about the highly anticipated sequel, reveals a new type of BT called the ‘watcher’, hunting Sam by detecting him and attacking through sight. Other than that, new human enemies also make their debut as a new group called ‘Armed Survivalists’, who attack Sam using lethal weapons. With all these new details emerging, it’s safe to assume that the sequel will be, in some capacity, harder than the first game. To make your life easier, Kojima is also introducing new weapon types in the game to easily combat said enemies. It seems like Kojima is doing all the right things and building on the foundation of the combat system laid in the first game. New weapons introduced in the sequel make encounters easier Death Stranding 2 adds a new arsenal of weapons | Image Credit: Kojima Productions The PlayStation blog post expands on how players can use the variety of new weapons introduced in the sequel to take on daunting threats, be it the BT or the human enemies. The MULE’s staple weapon from the first game, electrified poles, can now be used by Sam to electrify vehicles and enemies. In addition to the electrified poles, Sam can now use different types of holographic grenades to distract, scare away enemies, or escape combat entirely. One of the holographic grenades, as mentioned in the blog post, is a BT holographic grenade that creates a hologram of a BT to scare off human enemies that may be swarming an area. Remember, the holographic enemy of your enemy is your friend! From the looks of it, Hideo Kojima has listened to players who complained about the first game having not enough combat sections, as Death Stranding 2: On The Beach promises Metal Gear-esque tactical espionage action. He even admitted that the sequel’s design philosophy was similar to Metal Gear Solid. So the evolution in combat from Death Stranding to On The Beach is all thanks to Metal Gear fans. So, what do you think about the new enemy types and weapons introduced in Death Stranding 2: On the Beach? Will the new weapons be a match for the dangerous new threats in the game? Or will a stealthier approach reign supreme? Let us know your thoughts and opinions in the comment section below! Death Stranding 2: On the Beach arrives on PlayStation 5 on June 26, 2025. 9. Ransomware: What the LockBit 3.0 data leak reveals Ransomware: What the LockBit 3.0 data leak reveals On 7 May 2024, the presumed identity of the operator of the LockBit 3.0 franchise, also known as LockBitSupp, was revealed during *** National Crime Agency and its partners’ Operation Cronos: Dmitry Yuryevich Khoroshev. One year later, to the day, the entire contents of the SQL database of a web administration interface for the company’s affiliates was made public. And not just anywhere – on the ransomware franchise’s websites. The irony is – they were hacked. The data was extracted on 29 April. It concerns a system that was set up on 18 December last year. A rare light This data provides unprecedented visibility into the activities of the LockBit 3.0 ransomware. The compilation dates of the encryption malware make it possible to adjust previous estimates of attack occurrence dates. In the case of certain known victims, they have already revealed a gap of up to 10 days between the end of the exfiltration of the victim’s data and the launch of the encryption. This underlines the importance of efforts to detect such exfiltration. This data can also be used to attribute different victims to their attackers. This grouping will be useful for analysing negotiation methods and tracking any ransom payments. LeMagIT Activity of LockBit affiliates between 18 December 2024 and 29 April 2025. This administration interface for affiliates contained 75 user accounts, two of which were most likely used by LockBitSupp itself. No less than 35 accounts were “paused,” two of which had been used against victims in Russia. The company’s operator has assured that this is the reason for their suspension. But only 44 accounts were actually used to generate ransomware and possibly launch cyber attacks. Of these, 30 were active on 29 April, but only seven appear to have been engaged in conducting attacks at that time. LeMagIT Cumulative activity by month, segmented by world region. A geographical spread Research into the geographical origins of the victims mentioned reveals an unusual trend – in all likelihood, the Asia-Pacific region was the focus for 35.5% of the efforts of LockBit’s affiliates over the ******* in question, compared with 22% for Europe, and less than 11% for North America, behind Latin America at 12%. LeMagIT Global geographical distribution of the activities of LockBit 3.0 affiliates from the end of 2024 to the end of April 2025. But there are very marked disparities between affiliates. PiotrBond, for example, concentrated on the Asia-Pacific region, with 76% of its victims. The same applies to Umarbishop47 (81%). DarraghBerg bet equally (33.3%) on this region and Africa-Middle East. But JamesCraig also gave priority to Asia-Pacific (42%). This geographical review also highlights the lack of observability of the threat in this region, particularly in China, which accounted for 51 victims in the sample studied. Indonesia comes a close second with 49 victims, followed by India (35). LeMagIT Geographical breakdown of the activities of LockBit’s various affiliates between 18 December 2024 and 29 April 2025. The data also suggests that South Korea is globally under-represented in observable malicious activity. This unusual geographical distribution may reflect changes in the profiles recruited by LockBit 3.0. The most active affiliates do not seem to be those who go after the most attractive victims. The reflection of a tarnished image The available data suggests instead that those who multiply their victims try to target potentially less mature people than others, even if they have to pay modest sums, in countries with per-capita incomes around the world average. The negotiations observed support this analysis, with ransom amounts very frequently requested of less than $20,000. All in all, the LockBit 3.0 banner currently appears to have only two or three active high-flying affiliates. This is only half a surprise – the Cronos international judicial operation dented the image of the ******-like franchise. If it manages to attract anyone, its appeal is, unsurprisingly, limited. It even makes you wonder whether some victims who refuse to pay the ransom are deliberately not being claimed on LockBit’s showcase site so as not to tarnish its image even further. And this new leak is unlikely to improve matters – it has exposed the Tox encrypted email IDs of certain affiliates, their passwords (stored in clear text), and pseudonyms with which certain open source intelligence specialists will no doubt be happy to investigate – not to mention the victims’ private encryption keys. 10. Kim Jong Un supervised missile tests simulating nuclear strikes: North Korea – National Kim Jong Un supervised missile tests simulating nuclear strikes: North Korea – National North Korean leader Kim Jong Un supervised tests of short-range ballistic missile systems that simulated nuclear counterstrikes against U.S. and South Korean forces, state media said Friday, as the North continued to blame its rivals for escalating tensions through their joint military exercises. The report came a day after South Korea’s military detected multiple launches from North Korea’s eastern coast and assessed that the tests could also be related to the country’s weapons exports to Russia during its war in Ukraine. North Korea’s official Korean Central News Agency said Thursday’s tests involved a mobile ballistic missile system apparently modeled after Russia’s Iskander, as well as 600-millimeter multiple rocket launchers that South Korean officials classify as ballistic due to their self-propulsion and guided flight. Both are part of a growing lineup of weapons systems that the North says could be armed with “tactical” nuclear weapons for battlefield use. KCNA said the tests were intended to train military units operating missile and rocket systems to more effectively execute attacks under the North’s nuclear weapons control system and ensure a swift response to a nuclear crisis. Story continues below advertisement The agency criticized the United States and its “vassal states” for expanding joint military exercises on and around the Korean Peninsula, which the North claims are preparations for nuclear war, and said Thursday’s launches demonstrated the “rapid counteraction posture” of its forces. Get daily National news Get the day’s top news, political, economic, and current affairs headlines, delivered to your inbox once a day. Kim stressed the need to strengthen the role of his nuclear forces in both deterring and fighting war, and called for continued efforts to improve combat readiness and precision strike capabilities, KCNA said. More on World More videos Kim Inae, spokesperson for South Korea’s Unification Ministry, which handles inter-Korean affairs, described the latest North Korean launches as a “clear act of provocation” that violates UN Security Council resolutions and poses a serious threat to peace and stability in the region. Tensions on the Korean Peninsula have escalated in recent months as North Korean leader Kim continues to accelerate the development of his nuclear and missile program and supply weapons and troops to support Russia’s war against Ukraine. In a separate report, KCNA said Kim Jong Un visited the Russian Embassy in Pyongyang on Friday to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Soviet Union’s defeat of Nazi Germany and praised the development of “long-standing strategic relations” between the two countries.” Trending Now Canada’s housing market is ‘cracking’ under Trump’s trade war: report WestJet suspends 9 U.S. routes due to lower demand South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff said Thursday’s launches involved multiple missiles of various types that were fired from an area around the eastern port city of Wonsan from about 8:10 to 9:20 a.m., with the farthest traveling about 800 kilometers (497 miles). Story continues below advertisement Lee Sung Joon, spokesperson for the Joint Chiefs, said in a briefing the North Korean launches were possibly intended to test the performance of weapons it plans to export, as the country continues to send military equipment and troops to fuel Russia’s warfighting against Ukraine. Japanese Defense Minister Gen Nakatani told reporters that none of the North Korean missiles reached Japan’s exclusive economic zone and there was no damage to vessels or aircraft in the area. It was the North’s first known ballistic activity since March 10, when it fired several ballistic missiles hours after U.S. and South Korean troops began an annual combined military exercise, and the country’s sixth launch event of the year. Thursday’s launch came a day after North Korean state media said Kim urged munition workers to boost the production of artillery shells amid his deepening alignment with Moscow. &copy 2025 The ********* Press Source link #Kim #Jong #supervised #missile #tests #simulating #nuclear #strikes #North #Korea #National Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content] For verified travel tips and real support, visit: [Hidden Content]

  12. The best steak I’ve ever had was made by an AI robot grill – too bad it’s so expensive The best steak I’ve ever had was made by an AI robot grill – too bad it’s so expensive AI can help you summarize, rhapsodize, and conceptualize, but can it tenderize? In a way, yes. This week, I enjoyed what may have been one of the best grilled steaks of my life courtesy of an AI-powered robot grill from SeerGrills, the Perfecta. Under the shade of White Maples and London Planetrees in New York City’s Union Square sat a pair of boxy Perfecta Grills, both waiting to grill up various meats with the assistance of AI. I’d been invited to taste-test the output, and to say I was skeptical was putting it lightly. I’ve been grilling for decades and have found that barbecuing the perfect meat is never easy. Depending on thickness, you can easily over- or undercook it, even with digital thermometers to tell you if you hit that just-right medium rare steak or fully-cooked chicken temperature. You may like (Image credit: Lance Ulanoff / Future) SeerGrill’s Perfecta doesn’t look much like a grill. The boxy propane-powered system has an infrared and steel and ceramic-filled cooking chamber. Below it is a waste bin for oils, and the chamber remains open during the cook to keep air moving through and taking moisture and smoke out and away from your meat. This helps keep it crisp instead of rubbery. I watched with anticipation as an inch-thick steak was placed between a pair of spring-loaded racks. The rack slides into the chamber vertically. I asked if you have to add the meat weight or thickness into the system. SeerGrills execs told me that the system only needs to know the kind of meat or fish it’s cooking, along with how you like it cooked. The grill’s AI measures the meat’s thickness, and then robotic technology moves the burners back and forth. SeerGrills claims Perfecta can cook any steak in 90 seconds (plus 30 seconds or so of rest time), chicken in 160 seconds, and burgers in 90 seconds. That speed isn’t surprising, considering Perfecta is heating to 1,652 degrees Fahrenheit (900 degrees Celsius). Seergrills execs tell me the AI not only knows how to cook all these meats, but it can also learn your preferences for cooking over time and apply that knowledge to future grill efforts. Sign up for breaking news, reviews, opinion, top tech deals, and more. I listened to all this, but worried that an AI and robot burners wouldn’t understand how I like my steak. Getting that just-right medium rare cook is hard, and even if the meat is cooked well, what if it’s tasteless? Image 1 of 3 (Image credit: Lance Ulanoff / Future) (Image credit: Lance Ulanoff / Future) (Image credit: Lance Ulanoff / Future) They started by preheating the grill, which took less than a minute. Then, I watched as they slid the seasoned steak into the Perfecta using a pair of removable handles and pushed a digital thermometer into the center of the steak. The system does use that to double-check doneness, but SeerGrills execs told me they hope updates will eventually make that unnecessary. On the digital panel, they hit a couple of buttons (you have to plug in the grill or attach it to a battery to power this system) to set the meat type and doneness level (medium rare, of course). I peered inside, where I could see flames licking along the ceramic panels. There was some sizzling, a little bit of smoke, and the fragrant smell of grilled meat. (Image credit: Lance Ulanoff / Future) 90 seconds elapsed, and then they let the steak rest in the Perfecta for 30 seconds. They slid out the steak and opened the grill tray. It was dirty, but the cook had shown me earlier how these magnetic panels pop off and can be dropped into a dishwasher. A moment later, they were slicing through what looked like a perfectly cooked steak. I ate a few slices and was shocked. It was tender, moist, and most importantly, delicious. (Image credit: Lance Ulanoff / Future) Later, they slid a chicken breast into the second Perfecta Grill. The robotic burners slid back and forth on their own, and 152 seconds later, the breast was ready. When they sliced into the chicken, I noticed that it looked perfectly white, and when I tasted a slice, I marveled at how it was tender but with crispy bits. I was impressed. Now, this grill will, when it starts shipping next month, cost $5,999. That’s a lot for any kind of grill, even a smart one. On the other hand, can you put a price on perfection? SeerGrills is also willing to sell you the stand – they did not provide a price – and they also have grill covers if you want to keep your nearly $6000 grilling baby outdoors. Its IP22 rating means it can handle a drizzle but not much else. This is not the kind of AI that shows itself with florid prose or wild imagery. Instead, it appears to be a solid blending of AI and robotics, purpose-built to deliver one of the best steaks I’ve ever tasted. 13. Swedish security adviser quits over dating site images Swedish security adviser quits over dating site images Sweden’s new national security adviser has abruptly resigned, just a day after his appointment, amid criticism from the prime minister that he failed to disclose information regarding images published years ago on a dating website. Tobias Thyberg, a foreign service veteran who in previous roles served as ambassador to both Ukraine and Afghanistan, had omitted the information during security background checks, the government said. The resignation comes just months after Thyberg’s predecessor in the high-profile job stepped down and was charged with negligent handling of classified information. Thyberg did not immediately respond to Reuters requests for comment on Friday. But in a statement to daily Dagens Nyheter, Thyberg said that he had failed to disclose the existence of the images. “These are old pictures from an account I previously had on the dating site Grindr. I should have informed about this, but I did not,” he said, according to DN. Reuters could not independently verify information about the content of the images. Background checks for sensitive government jobs typically require the disclosure of any information that could potentially make someone vulnerable to blackmail. Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson said the information should have come to light a long time ago. “It is a systemic failure that this kind of information has not been brought forward,” Kristersson told reporters on the sidelines of a conference in Norway. Thyberg had been due to travel to Oslo on Friday with the prime minister for a meeting of northern European leaders, but the adviser’s participation was cancelled. 20. Nvidia readies cut-down HGX H20 GPU for China to comply with export control rules Nvidia readies cut-down HGX H20 GPU for China to comply with export control rules Nvidia plans to introduce a cut-down version of its HGX H20 AI processor in China by July, aiming to retain access to the market after U.S. officials effectively barred the original version through updated export regulations, Reuters reports. According to preliminary information, the revised AI GPU will feature less onboard HBM memory to comply with newly imposed technical limits and replace the previously approved model. Among the changes of the new AI GPU is reduced memory capacity, which will affect the ability of the processor to train large language models with tens and hundreds of billions of parameters, one Reuters source noted. In addition, the final performance characteristics may be adjustable depending on how end customers configure the HGX GPU modules, potentially enabling minor flexibility despite the overall downgrade. In April, U.S. authorities restricted sales of AMD’s Instinct MI308, Nvidia’s HGX 20, and some other AI processors to China (including Hong Kong and Macau) due to unpublished export regulations. As a result, AMD and Nvidia had to write down inventory worth billions of dollars ($5.5 billion for Nvidia, $800 million for AMD) as export licenses for goods bound for China are reviewed with a presumption of denial. However, to sustain access to the critical market, Nvidia is now incorporating a set of downgrades to ensure it stays within the permissible thresholds set by the U.S. government. Nvidia has already communicated these plans to major customers in China’s cloud computing sector. If the information about the downgraded HGX H20 processor is correct, it will be Nvidia’s third Hopper-based GPU designed specifically for China that relies on cut-down H100 silicon. It is noteworthy that there is no word on Blackwell-based AI products for China. After the U.S. government imposed its first set of restrictions on AI and HPC GPUs exported to China in 2022, Nvidia built its H800 processor with reduced networking capabilities. The H800 only represented a minor performance downgrade compared to the original H100. After the U.S. administration imposed new export rules that restricted the performance of processors shipped to China, Nvidia developed its HGX H20 based on the H100 for AI training as well as L20 PCIe and L2 PCIe cards based on the AD104 GPUs for AI inference. 22. Interview: Amanda Stent, head of AI strategy and research, Bloomberg Interview: Amanda Stent, head of AI strategy and research, Bloomberg Amanda Stent was researching natural language processing (NLP) at a time when there were only around 20 people in the world working on it – Stent now heads up all things AI at Bloomberg. Stent completed a PhD in NLP at the University of Rochester in 2001, focusing on natural language generation “well before natural language generation or generative AI were popular topics”, they tell Computer Weekly. “Someone quite notable once said to me, ‘You have been doing AI for a very, very, very long time’ – that’s three verys,” Stent jokes. After completing a PhD, Stent moved into research at AT&T as part of a team focused on speech and language processing, spoken conversation systems and applications of AI. Research at the time included applying AI to journalism – “computational journalism”, as Stent describes it. “This was early days before generative AI.” Stent worked on a project that set out to feed structured data into a system, such as stock price changes, to see if it was possible to automatically construct a news story that follows standard journalistic templates, with appropriate visuals such as charts and tables. After leaving AT&T, Stent took up an applied research role at Yahoo Labs, moving on in 2016, when Yahoo was sold to Verizon, to join Bloomberg as a product manager in the chief technology office, where Stent once again focused on natural language processing. The AI head then spent three years away from Bloomberg at Colby College – a liberal arts college and undergraduate-focused institution in the US – where they helped found the country’s first undergraduate institute for AI. After that, they returned to Bloomberg and took on their current role as head of AI strategy and research. Stent says part of their reason for going to Colby College and later returning to Bloomberg – and one of the lessons they learned from working in industry for several years – is that although the world needs AI engineers, it has a greater need for AI-informed product managers, journalists, salespeople and media experts. “It affects everybody today, and we should all be informed and critical users.” AI affects everybody today, and we should all be informed and critical users Amanda Stent, Bloomberg Discover, analyse, summarise Today, Stent is responsible for AI strategy at Bloomberg, which they say has been “leaning into AI for a long time” and was far from a blank canvas when they joined in 2016, having been using the technology since 2009. Back then, the data giant was providing its clients with a sentiment model and sentiment feed. “It was market sentiment, so – not that am I happy or sad about this – it does indicate that the price of something will go up.” At present, Stent is focusing heavily on generative AI (GenAI). “Our focus these days, like everybody else I think, is on GenAI and how we can make the most effective use of it to solve real client problems.” Stent says Bloomberg works with three kinds of data: structured data, which is the time series of prices; unstructured data, which includes news, company results and research; and communications data. “GenAI can really help clients derive actionable insights from those types of data.” Bloomberg is using GenAI today to help clients discover, analyse and summarise its data. One of the earliest real applications of GenAI at Bloomberg was for earnings transcript summarisation. “We summarise earnings calls – clients don’t have to ask questions, they just get a summary that is done by technology but informed by the subject matter experts that we have at Bloomberg,” says Stent. “Instead of being a generic summary, we have 13 categories of information that subject matter experts, such as analysts and portfolio managers, are interested in when they listen to an earnings call. “The client company will see the bullets under the theme, and when they click on it, it will take them to exactly where in the earnings call that information appeared. “This is called transparent attribution, and we want users to check the information from GenAI,” says Stent. Bloomberg also uses GenAI to provide bulleted summaries of news if the story is more than a certain length. Clients can also ask questions of documents and sets of documents to get information for themes they’re interested in. Every customer that uses the Bloomberg terminal has access to GenAI, says Stent, and some are building their own solutions as well. “There are clients who are very technically sophisticated and are really leaning deeply into GenAI and agentic AI, and partnering with us to develop solutions,” says Stent. “And there are clients who are less sophisticated or a little more risk averse, and are kind of waiting to see how it can be done effectively and responsibly.” Navigating the risks GenAI will have a profound impact on society, and it is for this reason that experts like Stent need to understand the risks. One such risk is AI hallucinations. “You have to make sure that your model stays up to date, because in financial services, this is important. You need to make sure that you are identifying the source or the provenance of the information the GenAI is using, because a known risk of GenAI is that it will hallucinate – it will make stuff up and lie through its teeth.” “You need to make sure you are identifying the source or the provenance of the information the GenAI Is using, because a known risk of GenAI is that it will hallucinate – it will make stuff up and lie through its teeth” Amanda Stent, Bloomberg In financial services, making sure the information used to make decisions is accurate is critical. “Anytime you are making a decision, a human or a system is making a decision, which will affect another human being, I think it’s really important to be as objective as possible,” adds Stent. “Now, computer systems are consistent, but consistent and objective are not necessarily the same thing. Humans are less consistent, but both may be subjective rather than objective.” The humans behind the machine There are 350 AI engineers at Bloomberg, but in terms of developing AI, many more people are involved, from a variety of backgrounds, says Stent. “We also have subject matter experts who provide the data input to AI, and we have AI-informed product managers. It’s a collective team across the company.” In terms of the skills the organisation is looking for in those who work with AI, it is a mix of people with strong mathematical backgrounds and those who are good at thinking about clients’ problems and identifying solutions. We can teach people how to be effective users of AI without needing to know all that maths Amanda Stent, Bloomberg “Our AI engineers might have PhD degrees in physics, computer science and maths, while subject matter experts will probably have graduate degrees in financial services, and potentially backgrounds at a number of clients,” says Stent. “Sales and product managers may also have backgrounds as Bloomberg clients, and they are really good at identifying why we’re building something and translating the client need to the people who are building it.” All of these different types of people – such as providence managers, engineers, data scientists, subject matter experts, compliance, risk and legal experts – are “really important to developing solid AI solutions”, says Stent. At Bloomberg, tech is core, and the creation of more business and jobs is an anticipated outcome of the increased use of AI, but what about wider society and industries? Stent says: “There has been no revolution in history that has not led to job transformation and more jobs, and I think that’s true here, too. AI will augment a lot of people.” While there are certain types of tasks people do currently that they won’t need to do anymore, there will be new types of tasks, such as prompt engineering, adds Stent. “We can teach people how to be effective users of AI without needing to know all that maths.” Source link #Interview #Amanda #Stent #strategy #research #Bloomberg Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content]

  24. Wall Street rises, focus shifts to US-China trade talks Wall Street rises, focus shifts to US-China trade talks Wall Street’s main indexes have risen, marking their third straight day of gains, as investors assessed fresh comments from President Donald Trump regarding tariffs on China ahead of a key weekend meeting between the two countries. Futures had moved lower briefly earlier in the day after Trump said Beijing should open its market to the United States and that 80 per cent tariffs on ******** goods “seems right”. The levies are currently at 145 per cent. Representatives from the world’s two biggest economies are scheduled to meet in Switzerland over the weekend to discuss tariffs, with investors hoping the talks will salve a bruising trade war that has raised concerns over global economic growth and left markets, companies and the US Federal Reserve in wait-and-watch mode. “Anyone who thinks the deal is getting done at 80 per cent is not seeing things clearly. You’re going to see that they’ll come to something more reasonable over time, but this was a step in the right direction,” said Thomas Hayes, chairman at Great Hill Capital. On Thursday, Wall Street’s main indexes closed higher as investors cheered a trade deal struck between Britain and the US – the first of its kind since Trump paused his initial tariffs last month. Reuters reported India had offered to slash its tariff gap with the US to less than four per cent from nearly 13 per cent now, in exchange for an exemption from Trump’s tariffs, according to sources. “We’re going to see multiple deals with major nations and that’s going to allow CEOs to get some more confidence that they can start to plan and possibly invest all that has been on hold,” said Hayes. In early trading on Friday, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 50.37 points, or 0.12 per cent, to 41,418.82, the S&P 500 gained 15.49 points, or 0.27 per cent, to 5,679.43 and the Nasdaq Composite gained 91.47 points, or 0.51 per cent, to 18,019.61. Energy, up 0.8 per cent, led gains among the 11 S&P 500 sectors. Funds tracking consumer discretionary stocks outperformed in the week ended Wednesday, while financials were hit the most, according to data compiled by LSEG. The S&P 500 and the Nasdaq are set for marginal declines this week, but are hovering near levels seen in late March, having recouped all the losses incurred in the aftermath of Trump’s “Liberation day” tariff announcement last month. Days after the Federal Reserve left interest rates unchanged, Governor Michael Barr said Trump’s trade policies will likely lift inflation, lower growth, and raise unemployment later this year. With the peak of the earnings season behind, about 76 per cent of S&P 500 companies have surpassed profit expectations. But many have withdrawn their annual forecasts citing an uncertain trade environment. Expedia slipped 8.8 per cent after the online travel platform missed quarterly revenue estimates. Trade Desk shares jumped 23.2 per cent after the ad firm posted first-quarter revenue and profit above Wall Street estimates. Insulin delivery device maker Insulet jumped 18 per cent after beating estimates for first-quarter profit on Thursday Advancing issues outnumbered decliners by a 2.68-to-1 ratio on the NYSE and by a 2.01-to-1 ratio on the Nasdaq. The S&P 500 posted three new 52-week highs and one new low while the Nasdaq Composite recorded 25 new highs and 39 new lows. 25. Breaking This New Nintendo Clause Could Make Your Switch 2 “Unusable” Breaking This New Nintendo Clause Could Make Your Switch 2 “Unusable” Nintendo updated its user agreement and privacy policy ahead of the Switch 2 launch next month, and while the company briefly listed a few of the changes in the email it sent out, one of the big changes might have escaped your notice. A new clause related specifically to “unauthorized use” and other keywords like “bypass” and “modify” in the US version of the email gives Nintendo the right to make your console “unusable” if it discovers that you’ve broken any of these rules. As spotted by Game File’s Stephen Totilo, the wording for the Licence for Digital Products section has been amended. “You acknowledge that if you fail to comply with the foregoing restrictions Nintendo may render the Nintendo Account Services and/or the applicable Nintendo device permanently unusable in whole or in part,” the text reads. You acknowledge that if you fail to comply with the foregoing restrictions Nintendo may render the Nintendo Account Services and/or the applicable Nintendo device permanently unusable in whole or in part. In comparison (via Eurogamer), the clause is different for people with a *** Nintendo account, as it specifically states that “unauthorised use of a Digital Product may result in the Digital Product becoming unusable.” This is likely a new measure by Nintendo to combat piracy and emulation of its games, and while it hasn’t explained what it means exactly with its use of the word “unusable” here, it probably won’t be good news for anyone caught pirating software or running an emulator. Nintendo is known for being very litigious when it comes to protecting its IP, as it recently launched a high-profile case against the makers of Palworld over similarities to the Pokemon franchise and gaming accessory maker Genki has also had a lawsuit filed against it for what Nintendo calls “trademark infringement, unfair competition, and false advertising.” Last year, Nintendo took action against YouTube channels that showed off its games running on emulators and it even managed to locate and identify an alleged Switch pirate.
