  1. ‘The View’: Former Federal Prosecutor Sunny Hostin Says Case Against Diddy Is the ‘Most Disturbing’ She’s Ever Heard ‘The View’: Former Federal Prosecutor Sunny Hostin Says Case Against Diddy Is the ‘Most Disturbing’ She’s Ever Heard The federal sex trafficking trial for Sean “Diddy” Combs kicked off Monday morning in New York, and “The View” host Sunny Hostin was in the courtroom for it. And, according to the former federal prosecutor, this particular case is the “most disturbing” she’s seen in her career. To kick off Tuesday’s Hot Topics on the ABC talk show, Hostin reminded the audience that her area of expertise as a prosecutor was specifically sex crimes and human trafficking, so this trial is right in her wheelhouse. As such, it made things harder to watch. “I will tell you that it is probably the most disturbing case I’ve ever heard in my career,” she admitted. That said, Hostin also credited Combs’ defense team with offering “probably one of the best opening statements I’ve heard,” by flat out acknowledging Combs’ violent tendencies. “The defense’s theory of the case is that Sean Combs is violent, he is a complicated man, he has committed domestic violence, but this is a case about jealousy and infidelity and a money grab,” Hostin recalled. “And it’s also a case about consensual threesomes. They said that there was no human trafficking, this is all consensual. And it was very interesting.” Hostin also noted that Combs himself appeared feeble in court, but was intensely engaged in the proceedings and passing notes to his lawyers. She did question the charges in the case, arguing that racketeering in particular will be hard to prove. But, she noted from experience that charges are always brought very specifically. “Federal prosecutors win 97% of their trials, and so there must be evidence to support these charges,” she said. “But it’s — from what I can see at this point, it’s going to be a difficult case.” You can watch the full discussion from “The View” in the video above. 4. Daulton Varsho has never hit the ball harder Daulton Varsho has never hit the ball harder TORONTO – Daulton Varsho has never swung the bat harder and it’s all thanks to a small adjustment at the plate. Varsho had a three-run blast in the eighth inning for a short-lived Blue Jays lead and a solo home run earlier in the game as Toronto fell to the Tampa Bay Rays 11-9 on Tuesday. Varsho’s first home run of the night had an exit velocity of 113.9 m.p.h. and the three-run bomb was 113.6 m.p.h., for the two hardest hits of his career. “It’s just trying to be short and quick to the baseball,” said Varsho on how he has found more power this season. “The big extra moves, that’s when it comes off softer and not as on a line for me. “The more I can continue to do that, the better opportunity I have to get hits.” Story continues below advertisement Related Videos 2:22 Blue Jays fans skip out on Seattle series over U.S. trade war Previous Video Next Video Varsho’s three-run homer gave Toronto (20-21) a 7-6 lead in the eighth before Tampa scored five runs in the ninth to re-take the lead. Although he’s hitting just .222 in his 10 games this season, he has five home runs and has driven in 11 runs. “I think that as he goes along in his career, he’s understanding who he is and what he can handle, and he’s just kind of leaning into it.” said Blue Jays manager John Schneider. “You know, confidence is a real thing. Story continues below advertisement “When you’re at this stage in his career, you make some adjustments and you have some confidence.” DON’T HASSLE THE HOFF — Closer Jeff Hoffman still has Schneider’s full support, despite giving up five runs in the ninth inning, including a towering grand slam to Junior Caminero. “His stuff has been consistent all year, you know?” said Schneider, noting that Caminero’s homer came on a slider high and inside that was out of the strike zone. “He’s done more than his fair share of helping us win games so far. I’ve got nothing but trust in him going forward.” Although Hoffman earned his eighth and ninth saves of the season over the weekend in Seattle, he had two bad outings last week in Anaheim, Calif. He gave up three runs on consecutive nights as the Los Angeles Angels beat Toronto 8-3 on May 6 and 6-4 on May 7. 5. F-47 Now Has An Officially Stated Combat Radius Of 1,000+ Nautical Miles F-47 Now Has An Officially Stated Combat Radius Of 1,000+ Nautical Miles U.S. Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. David Allvin has posted an infographic on his X account that compares his service’s 4th, 5th, and future 6th generation fighters, as well as the USAF’s forthcoming Collaborative Combat Aircraft (CCA) ‘fighter drones.’ Albeit very generalized in nature, the graphic provides us with our first official metrics for some of these aircraft, including stating Boeing’s F-47 Next Generation Air Dominance fighter will possess a combat radius of “1,000+” nautical miles. Our @usairforce will continue to be the world’s best example of speed, agility, and lethality. Modernization means fielding a collection of assets that provide unique dilemmas for adversaries—matching capabilities to threats—while keeping us on the right side of the cost curve. pic.twitter.com/vqjxCdBYid — General David Allvin (@OfficialCSAF) May 13, 2025 What should be the required range and general performance of the Next Generation Air Dominance manned tactical jet (now officially the F-47) is a very important and hot-button topic. Being able to pierce deeply into an enemy’s anti-access/area denial (A2/AD) bubble is an absolutely essential feature of the upcoming 6th generation fighter from Boeing. There are strong arguments for putting an absolute premium on range and overall endurance over other performance goals, while a more balanced approach, more akin to a traditional fighter, is also another position being taken by some. We won’t dive back into all this in this piece, but while a combat radius of 1,000+ nautical miles is a significant improvement over other fighters currently in the inventory, it isn’t as drastic as some may think is necessary for confronting advanced enemy air defenses for many decades to come. Still, at least we are getting clearer indications as to what to expect from the F-47. The 1,000+ nautical mile figure lines up loosely with the Navy’s own NGAD fighter initiative, or F/A-XX, which was recently stated as having roughly 25% more range than the service’s current fighters. Of the Navy’s current tactical jet fleets, the F-35C offers better range than the F/A-18E/F Super Hornet. A 25% increase over F-35C would put F/A-XX’s combat radius at roughly 850 nautical miles or so. The closer to 50% additional range over existing fighters for the F-47 would make some sense if the basic performance goals were broadly similar to the Navy’s, but one had to operate from a carrier and the other had the advantage of flying from fixed airfields. We also don’t know what exactly the “+” represents in the F-47 range figure. Is this 50 extra nautical miles or 250 extra nautical miles? It’s also important to remember that with all public releases surrounding the F-47, from its core configuration to metrics like these, we have to assume they have been carefully tailored as to not give too much away to adversary intelligence. Regardless, these are the official figures we now have in writing. The graphic also puts the F-47’s speed at over Mach 2, which aligns with President Donald Trump’s comments during the F-47 contract award announcement and naming presser. Exactly how fast it will be able to cruise without afterburner (supercruise) and at what level of efficiency is far more important than its top speed, regardless. F-47 official renderings from the USAF Allvin’s posting also states the F-47 program of record will include 185 aircraft, at least as it’s planned at this time. This fits with years of statements from former Air Force Secretary Frank Kendall as to how many NGAD manned jets the USAF would likely acquire. With what he laid out as an extreme price tag of upwards of three times more expensive than current fighters in production, around 200 would likely be built. It was also originally envisioned that the NGAD manned tactical jet would replace the F-22 directly. How accurate that remains today isn’t clear as the F-22’s out-of-service date has become more murky, as has its relation to being replaced with the F-47. But based on the 185 number, which matches the inventory of the F-22 in the same graphic, a direct replacement strategy seems to remain in play at least as a possibility. Still, based on recent USAF officials’ statements, the F-47’s final force structure design seems to remain a work in progress. F-22As fly off the wing of a KC-135R (USAF) The F-47 will feature “Stealth ++” as opposed to the F-22’s “Stealth +” and the F-35’s “Stealth,” according to the graphic. This really isn’t a new revelation, as the NGAD manned tactical jet was always envisioned as being a very low-observable aircraft, likely featuring all-aspect ‘broadband,’ all-aspect stealth against radar, and significantly reduced infrared signature. The inclusion of canards in the design, at least in the concept art we have been shown, seems somewhat antithetical to this goal. You can read more about this puzzling addition here. But, as we have said repeatedly since the first renderings of the F-47 were released, we don’t know what has been included for counter-intelligence purposes, and we should always keep in mind that the actual aircraft may end up looking notably different — maybe even ending up without the canards. Finally, the USAF graphic states the F-47 would become operational between 2025 and 2029. This is very unlikely and this date range is probably meant to indicate the first flight of the F-47 and some of its developmental testing. We see the same date range for YQF-42A and/or YQF-44A CCAs. “The F-47 will fly during this Administration,” a USAF official told TWZ when asked for further clarification. General Atomics YFQ-42 CCA. (General Atomics) Move on to the aforementioned CCAs, the graphic shows CCA procurement as over 1,000 units. As we understand it, that would not necessarily be QF-42As or QF-44As, but across multiple CCA increments with one or both of those aircraft being procured in numbers between 100 and 150 units for the first CCA increment. Increment 2, which will likely be a very different airframe, is spinning up to be competed next. Still, the USAF could end up buying many more Increment 1 CCAs, beyond the 100-150 number, as the overall program evolves. The 700-mile combat radius for CCA is very important to note. We have not seen a range figure like this assigned to CCA before. Like the F-47’s stated range, this is on the lower side of what some may think is necessary. This would be especially so as it does not align directly with what we now know about the F-47’s own range. The F-47 will be one of the primary control platforms for CCAs. Keeping the crewed jets on station longer to control multiple waves of CCAs is always a possibility. And, once again, they are probably referring just to the two CCA designs currently being developed for testing. Follow-on CCA increments could have less or far more range. The range figure also fits with the indications we were seeing emerge in the program as it matured, with higher-performance and other attributes being emphasized over long-range. You can read our report on this here. As for speed, both the YQF-42A and YQF-44A are widely believed to be generally subsonic by design. Anduril’s YQF-44A was adapted from Blue Force Technologies’ Fury aggressor drone. That design was claimed to be capable of supersonic flight for limited maneuvers, but it is possible that more sustained supersonic operation could be acquired with propulsion changes. It isn’t clear if such an enhancement was pursued in the final CCA design. Once again, follow-on CCAs could have less or more kinematic performance based on evolving requirements. Finally, the graphic notes stealth as an attribute for both types. Both aircraft have some low-observable (stealthy) features, to varying degrees, especially optimized from the critical forward aspects, but they are not very low-observable platforms. Still, some degree of stealth technology balanced against cost and performance will provide a degree of enhanced survivability. CCA stealth requirements could and probably will change drastically in future iterations. So there you have it, our first official specifications on these platforms from the U.S. Air Force. Although the metrics are very limited and generalized, and we should not read too much definitively into them, they give us a bit clearer idea of the design objectives of both the F-47 and Increment 1 CCAs. So he is organising a Clean-up Country event and he wants other Kununurra residents to get involved. Mr Griffiths-Sebastian has conducted to a few clean up country events over recent years and he thinks it is time for another one. “It’s something that I’m very committed to doing. I run cultural tours and last thing I want is to take my guests out to Ivanhoe Crossing or somewhere and see rubbish everywhere,” he said. Camera IconPete’s Cultural Adventures Facebook Page Credit: Pete’s Cultural Adventure’s Facebook Page Besides Ivanhoe Crossing, another area he thought needed to be cleaned up was Mirima Trail. “People are just leaving rubbish everywhere and what-not. Also Kelly’s Knob, Speargrass Road, around town, the oval, pretty much everywhere that people see fit to throw rubbish,” he said. “You see a lot of alcohol, beer cans, even dead fish left on the site when people fillet or scale they tend to just leave it there and not worry about cleaning it up. It doesn’t take much to put it in a plastic bag and put it in a bin,” he said. “It is really important to do, especially at the beginning of the dry because of the reflection of some metal from the sun will go straight into the dry grass, and that’s the last thing I want is for a major bushfire to impact Kununurra.” People interested in getting involved are invited to the Kimberley Cafe at 9am on Thursday where they can discuss when to hold the clean up country event. “I just want to bring people together and find out when is the best time to do it,” he said. 18. Veteran’s return in doubt amid fresh Port injury blow Veteran’s return in doubt amid fresh Port injury blow Port Adelaide will take the long view on the club’s longest playing career, with veteran Travis Boak doubtful to return to AFL ranks this weekend. The 36-year-old hasn’t played in the AFL since round seven when he injured his back. Port’s games record-holder returned in state league competition last weekend, collecting 35 disposals and breaking an SANFL record in the process. Boak’s previous SANFL game was in 2007 – the 18-year ******* is the longest gap between games in the state league’s history. And while Power coach Ken Hinkley says Boak will be discussed at AFL selection meeting, he may not return for Saturday’s home game against Geelong. “We should be really careful when we talk about Trav,” Hinkley told reporters on Wednesday. “We’re trying to get him in to a position where he can have a strong back half of the year at the very least and make sure he’s OK physically. “And I think getting him through this week and next week, and seeing how he feels and his body goes, is really important to us, but what level we do that at will be decided later.” Hinkley has one big hole to fill, with play-making half-back Kane Farrell sidelined for four to six weeks after having arthroscopic surgery on a knee. “It’s a challenge when you lose good players,” Hinkley said. “But we’ve got a bit of depth in that position. “And we improved that depth, we put a bloke called (Connor) Rozee down there and he’s going OK, so we’ve got some support down there that can help. “We’ve got some good players … who can come in and certainly support that role.” Hinkley noted Port (13th, 4-5) and Geelong (seventh, 5-4) enter the Adelaide Oval encounter after close losses – the Power by five points to Adelaide, the Cats by four to GWS. The fixture is also a rematch of last year’s qualifying final, when Port crashed to an 84-point defeat to Geelong. “A high-quality team who we’ve played a fair bit – and they’ve beaten us a couple of times at different times, and we’ve been able to beat them a couple of times,” Hinkley said of the Cats. “It sets up a pretty interesting week for both teams, I would have thought. “We’re both coming off narrow losses, we both need to win.” Source link #Veterans #return #doubt #fresh #Port #injury #blow Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content]

  21. BBC cameraman haunted by Gaza’s malnourished children injured in Israeli strike BBC cameraman haunted by Gaza’s malnourished children injured in Israeli strike Fergal Keane Special correspondent BBC cameraman captures Israeli strike on Gaza hospital The war’s horrors multiply. The dead, the pieces of the dead. The dying. The starving. More and more of them now – all the weight of human suffering witnessed by my brave colleagues in Gaza. The urge to avert our gaze can be overpowering. But the cameramen who work for the BBC cannot turn away, and on Tuesday one of them became a casualty himself. For their safety we do not reveal the names of our colleagues in Gaza. Our cameraman was not seriously wounded, but that was a matter of luck. The Israeli bombs launched into the car park of the European Hospital in Khan Younis killed and wounded dozens. The Israelis say the leader of ****** was hiding in a command-and-control compound under the hospital. The army said it conducted a “precise strike” – and blamed ****** for”cynically and cruelly exploiting the civilian population in and around the hospital”. ****** denies such charges. At the time of the attack, families whose sick children are to be evacuated from Gaza were gathering in the hospital. There were also families waiting to meet children returning from treatment abroad. One of the fathers was with our BBC colleague and was wounded by the bombs. He has now been discharged from hospital. Harrowing images show our journalist trying to console the man’s terrified children. Warning: This report contains distressing images. Much of my colleague’s work in recent days has focused on the plight of malnourished children. A short time before the blast, I messaged to thank him for his work filming, with immense sensitivity, the story of Siwar Ashour. This was his response: “Siwar’s story broke something in all of us, and working on it was one of the most painful things I’ve ever had to do. But I knew her face, her name, and her story had to be seen – had to be heard.” Siwar is five months old and acutely malnourished, a child whose large, brown eyes dominate her shrunken frame. They follow her mother Najwa’s every move. On Tuesday Najwa sent us a video message from her room at Nasser Hospital in southern Gaza. She wanted the world to know how much she loves her child. “I wish she could receive the treatment she needs, to recover fully, and return as she was before – to play like other children, to grow and gain weight like other children. She is my first child, and as her mother, I’m deeply heartbroken for her.” Siwar Ashoura has advanced malnutrition and cannot tolerate formula milk In the past few days Siwar has developed a skin infection. Sores have appeared on her hands. She also has a severe gastrointestinal condition. The battle is to keep nourishment inside her. Her immune system is fighting the deprivation caused by the Israeli blockade. The baby’s cry is weak, yet it is full of urgency, the sound of a life struggling for its survival. Siwar can only drink a special milk formula due to severe allergies. On Tuesday there was some better news. Medics at the nearby Jordanian Field Hospital managed to find some of the formula she needs. It is a small amount but they plan to send more. Asma Al-Nashash’s children are stuck in Gaza In the coming days there are plans to bring sick children to the United Arab Emirates and Jordan. Here in Amman there are already several Gaza families who have children being treated for illness or war injuries in local hospitals. These evacuations are co-ordinated with the Israelis who do background checks on the parents travelling with their children. In January we filmed the arrival of Abdelrahman al-Nashash and his mum Asma. Abdelrahman lost his leg in an Israeli bombing. For four months they’ve lived in a place with food and shelter. A safe place. When we visited them on Tuesday Asma called her children and their grandmother in Gaza. The children in the photo are trapped in Gaza with their grandmother Najwa Grandmother Najwa spoke of the war all around them. “The rockets are everywhere, firing over our heads. The food. Life is very bad. There is no flour. The prices are very high.” The children waved and blew kisses to their mother. Afterwards, Asma told us: “I don’t know what to say. I am very grateful for my mum for all she is doing for me. I wish I can return back to find them safe and in good health.” She broke down and was silent. It is only through the eyes of a mother who sees her children trapped, frightened and hungry from a safe distance, that it is possible to imagine why anyone would want to go back to Gaza. 22. A new Nissan Skyline is coming, but what will it look like? A new Nissan Skyline is coming, but what will it look like? Nissan announced some grim numbers overnight in its latest financial update, with more job cuts and factory closures confirmed. However, it also teased some things to look forward to, including a new Skyline. The Japanese carmaker said it’s working to shorten the development lead time of its new vehicles to 37 months, with subsequent models based on these to take 30 months – down from 52 months and 50 months, respectively. Vehicles that will be developed under these tighter timeframes will include not only the Skyline, but also a new “global C SUV” and a new Infiniti “compact SUV” – the latter two being potentially a new Nissan X-Trail/Rogue and an Infiniti based on this mid-size SUV. But beyond this one-line mention of the Skyline and how long its development time will be, Nissan hasn’t confirmed any other details. Hundreds of new car deals are available through CarExpert right now. Get the experts on your side and score a great deal. Browse now. Camera IconCurrent Nissan Skyline Nismo Credit: CarExpert We therefore don’t know when it will be launched or what markets it will be sold in, if any, outside of Japan, much less what shape it will take. The current Skyline sedan is exclusively offered in Japan, and is little more than a rebadged version of the Infiniti Q50 that ended production in 2024. The Q50/Skyline first entered production in 2013, making it the oldest model in its segment. Its FM platform dates back even earlier, to the 2001 V35 Skyline/Infiniti G. Camera IconNissan Z Credit: CarExpert It’s unclear, then, if Nissan will – out of expediency, and in the interests of keeping development costs low – simply revise the current vehicle. There’s precedent for this. The Nissan Z is a heavily overhauled version of its 370Z predecessor, while even outside of Nissan, the rival Lexus IS received little more than a reskin in 2020 after its current generation entered production in 2013. Previous reports by Japanese outlet Best Car Web in 2023 suggested the Skyline nameplate could become an electric SUV, with a later report suggesting the name could instead be applied to a vehicle using Nissan’s e-Power hybrid system. Now, the same outlet suggests it’ll continue to be a combustion-powered sedan. Camera IconNissan Skyline Crossover Credit: CarExpert There would be precedent for a Skyline SUV, however, with Nissan having previously sold the Infiniti EX in Japan as the Skyline Crossover. The outgoing Skyline is currently offered exclusively with a twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre V6 petrol engine. It’s unclear if its replacement will once again have an Infiniti twin, though Nissan notes it plans to “revitalise” its premium brand “through synergies with the Nissan brand”. The Skyline is the last sedan remaining in Nissan’s Japanese lineup following the axing of the Fuga/Cima (aka Infiniti Q70) last year. Nissan doesn’t sell any of its ******** or American sedans, like the Altima/Teana, in its home market. Camera IconNissan’s scrapped fastback EV Credit: CarExpert As for Infiniti, it’s now an SUV-only brand following the axing of the Q50 and its Q60 coupe sibling. Recently, the company also scrapped plans for new US-built electric fastbacks for the Nissan and Infiniti brands that could conceivably have replaced the defunct Q50 and its ageing Skyline twin. Skyline is one of the oldest model nameplates in the industry, having debuted in 1957 on a vehicle produced by the Prince Motor Company. It was continued by Nissan after the two companies merged in 1967. Among Nissan’s current lineup, only the Patrol nameplate is older. 23. Elon Musk gets devastating news as the ‘anti-Tesla’ catches on Elon Musk gets devastating news as the ‘anti-Tesla’ catches on Tesla (TSLA) stock may have surged yesterday, but that doesn’t mean it’s all good news for Elon Musk. On the contrary, negative headlines are still piling up as the company falters. Once known as the undisputed leader of the electric vehicle (EV) sector, Tesla has struggled since the year started, largely thanks to Elon Musk’s polarizing actions. Even after the CEO announced he would be stepping back from his role at the so-called Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), share prices haven’t garnered any sustainable momentum. Don’t miss the move: Subscribe to TheStreet’s free daily newsletter Recently, Tesla revealed that its sales in China are down more than 8% on a year-over-year (YOY) basis while demand for battery electric vehicles (BEVs) continues to rise. This indicates that the company’s share of an important market is slipping at a highly vital time. Now Tesla has more bad news from the U.S., as a new rival celebrates a major milestone. Elon Musk has cause to be worried as a fast-growing Tesla rival continues making progress.Image source: Apu Gomes/Getty Images Less than two weeks ago, news broke that Tesla had an unexpected new rival, a startup backed by Amazon founder Jeff Bezos. Slate Automotive had been quietly pioneering low-cost electric pickup trucks for years, but has finally entered the market with a splash. Related: Tesla faces big threat from rivals in key market The company produces customizable electric pickup trucks with the traditional design at a sticker price of only $25,000. This low price decreases even more with the federal EV tax credit. So far, demand for these vehicles is extremely high. Slate just reported that over the weekend of May 10, it exceeded 100,000 reservations. These figures haven’t led to sales yet, but they show that many people are very interested in owning a Slate Automotive electric truck before the vehicle has been released. At first glance, this might seem like worse news for Rivian than Tesla. After all, the trendy startup also produces electric pickup trucks with a traditional design. But as TechCrunch has reported, Slate’s trendy model is a perfect contrast to Tesla’s Cybertruck, since it is “affordable, deeply customizable, and very analog,” and doesn’t even come with an infotainment screen. This comes at a time when Tesla is facing a significant Cybertruck demand problem. As TheStreet has reported, photos have shown hundreds of Tesla’s futuristic trucks sitting idly at its Texas gigafactory facility, as well as in random parking lots in other states. More Tesla News: Story Continues Musk spent years hyping up the Cybertruck, touting it as the vehicle of the future, even as it encountered multiple production delays. Despite the initially high reservations when Tesla finally released it, though, it is clear that supply is far exceeding demand, presenting Tesla with a major problem at a time when it is already having trouble selling EVs. With demand for Slate’s affordable, sleek truck option increasing steadily while Cybertruck sales have slowed, it isn’t hard to see the writing on the wall. Consumers are more interested in an affordable electric truck than in spending a lot of money on Musk’s futuristic vision. This could be because many consumers have opted against buying any Tesla vehicle lately, a clear response to Musk’s political affiliations. But it also suggests that truck buyers are looking for a traditional-looking model, one that can actually function as a typical pickup truck. Tesla recently attempted to rebrand the Cybertruck as a vehicle for the typical working person, but as TheStreet reports, this initiative has not gone well, and experts predict it will continue to fail. People who require a truck for work clearly don’t want to switch to a Cybertruck, especially given its high price tag. Slate Automotive is making significant progress and is already garnering a following before releasing any trucks. The last thing Musk needs right now is another competitor, but now he has one that is backed by one of his biggest rivals. 25. Streamer, left-wing commentator Hasan ****** says he was detained, questioned inappropriately at O’Hare Streamer, left-wing commentator Hasan ****** says he was detained, questioned inappropriately at O’Hare Popular Twitch streamer and political commentator Hasan ******, who has more than 2 million followers on the live-streaming platform, said he was detained and questioned by federal authorities at Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport for more than two hours after arriving in the U.S. on an international flight. This happened as ******, 33, was headed to speak at the University of Chicago on Sunday after he returned from a family vacation in Paris. ******, a prominent Turkish American live streamer who has openly spoken out against the war in Gaza, told the Institute of Politics crowd at UChicago that he believes he was targeted at O’Hare for his criticism of the Trump administration. No video of the interaction has surfaced — but ****** had some specific claims about his interaction with U.S. Custom Border Protection agents. “They took me to the back room, into a detention center. An agent came out and took me into the interrogation room … and they started asking me about crazy [expletive], like, ‘Do you like Donald Trump?'” he said. The American-born Twitch streamer and left-wing political commentator recounted at length to his millions of followers his two-hour encounter with federal agents after he arrived in Chicago from Paris. He claims he was asked not only about the president, but he was questioned about his opinions on Israel, ****** and the Houthis rebels in Yemen. “Everything I’ve done is fully protected under the First Amendment, OK?” ****** said. “And none of these questions are actually valid questions to ask.” ****** said this applies no matter what one’s political beliefs are. “It’s ******** for them to even ask me those questions, like, they can’t deny me entry into my own country,” ****** said. “It’s like, even if I was like, ‘I love ******,’ they can’t do that. Like, what do you mean?” U.S. Department of Homeland Security Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin acknowledged that ****** was detained, but took issue with his account of what happened. McLaughlin said: “This is nothing but lying for likes. Claims that his political beliefs triggered the inspection are baseless. Our officers are following the law, not agendas.” ******, who said he has Global Entry, the CBP program for pre-approved and low-risk travelers, addressed McLaughlin’s comments on a Tuesday live stream. “They openly admit to it taking place, right?” he said. “Saying that I’m lying for likes is very funny, because they don’t even deny that it took place, deny that it was a political targeting.” Streamer Hasan ****** takes issue with questioning at O’Hare International Airport 02:39 CBS News Chicago took the issue to legal analyst Irv Miller, who said the location is important here. “I suspect because this happened in an airport — an entry point into the country — that there were cameras everywhere,” Miller said. Miller said international travelers do give up certain Fourth Amendment rights to search and seizure — but there is a line. “Immigration has an absolute right to ask you who you are, and to see your identification — but they don’t have a right to ask you questions and demand answers of things other than your identity and your citizenship,” Miller said. Miller said travelers always have a Fifth Amendment right to stay silent, but acknowledged that doing so has practical problems. Anyone who stays silent may be held longer, particularly at a time when border enforcement is an administration priority. “The government is trying to be tougher. It is trying to be more invasive, and it’s getting close to that line whether or not something is constitutional or not constitutional,” said Miller, “and it always ends up in the courts.” Miller said he tells clients to go with the flow until they feel uncomfortable, at which point they can ask for a supervisor. ****** said Tuesday that he was answering some of the questions while he was detained, instead of choosing to stay silent, because he wanted to see the line of questioning. He was released and has since returned to Los Angeles.
