Climbing Legend Chris Sharma Credits His Ageless Power to This Surprisingly Simple Training Rule Climbing Legend Chris Sharma Credits His Ageless Power to This Surprisingly Simple Training Rule Any athlete with a lengthy career knows you can’t rely on the same tools forever. As their body ages, the methods that once kept them performing at their peak need to evolve, too. Chris Sharma, who’s been climbing for over three decades, knows this better than most. In his early years, Sharma chased climbs on instinct without any real rhyme or reason—letting each new adventure pull him in. But at 44, he has to be more strategic about how he moves. It’s not just his body that’s changed—his life has, too. These days, Sharma is a husband and father of two, and his time is no longer all his own. But with less time comes more intention—and in many ways, the climbs mean even more now than they did before. Training With Intention “I have two children, and so my time is split differently, where in the past I had this amazing freedom, where my life revolved around rock climbing,” says Sharma, who recently collaborated with prAna to craft the Mandala Boulder Graphic Tee. “Before, I would climb every other day, and my climbing would be much more ‘dosified’ into smaller windows very frequently. But now, because I’m so limited by these external circumstances, I’m just chomping at the bit to get out there.” Because he climbs less frequently now, Sharma says he tends to push harder when he does. As a result, he’s had to learn how to be more consistent with his training—while also prioritizing recovery to keep his body in the game. Related: The Surfer’s Guide to Achieving Core Stability and Balance Consistency Is Key “In the past, I could take a month or two off and really step back from climbing, just to kind of find myself,” he said. “When I was younger I remember coming back, directly dropping into some competition and not missing a beat. Nowadays, I just can’t do that, I have to be much more consistent in my climbing, and I climb every week. There are periods of time when it’s good to take a break, but it’s not something that you want to do very often, because I think if you stay consistent, you can continue to climb at your highest level, and even progress.” As you age—especially as a climber—your body just doesn’t respond the way it used to. Your stamina dips, your grip weakens, and the rock feels a little less forgiving. For Chris Sharma, the secret to a decades-long climbing career is simple: just keep climbing. But he’s also gotten smarter about everything outside the gym. That means cutting back on alcohol and prioritizing overall health to keep performing at a high level. “My personal experience in climbing now that I am a bit older is that routines have become more meaningful for me. Because I am so motivated to keep achieving my goals on the rock and I know the effects of not being consistent, I’m much more aware of that now. With regard to diet and sleep I’ve definitely made certain lifestyle changes to overall be healthier.” Source link #Climbing #Legend #Chris #Sharma #Credits #Ageless #Power #Surprisingly #Simple #Training #Rule Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content]

Daley defends under-fire Blues captain Trbojevic Daley defends under-fire Blues captain Trbojevic Laurie Daley will hold off on appointing his NSW skipper until he names his squad for the State of Origin series opener as he hailed the intangible qualities of under-fire incumbent Blues captain Jake Trbojevic. Ahead of Monday’s announcement of the Blues side for game one in Brisbane on May 28, coach Daley is staring at an incredible level of depth. Sixteen of the 17 Blues players – the sole exception being Cameron Murray – from last year’s decider are available, and several others who missed that shock triumph, such as Latrell Mitchell and Nathan Cleary, are back to full fitness. But no player’s Origin future has been as fiercely debated as that of Manly lock Trbojevic, who was named NSW captain by Michael Maguire last year. Across three games last year, Trbojevic averaged just 47m per game and was used in short stints at the start of matches, leading to questions if he still held value for NSW. “Once the team is finalised, the captain will be easy, but we just want to make sure that we’ve got the right team and then we’ll pick the right captain,” Daley said. “We have got a number of good choices. Jake did a terrific job last year and while he didn’t play a lot of minutes, inside the camp coaching staff, all spoke particularly highly of what he was able to do for a group. “We’ve got other captains within our possible side that I’ve led their (club) teams, so we have good captaincy options.” Among the alternatives to Trbojevic are Cleary, his Penrith teammate Isaah Yeo and Canterbury centre Stephen Crichton. But Daley was keen to stress that the under-fire Trbojevic had an impact on the Blues that could not be quantified. “Certain players have different effects on a group and the players you speak to and they all rave about Jake,” Daley said. “He’s very passionate and a really wonderful fella so you take all those things into account.” Penrith’s NSW hopefuls will have no further opportunities to strengthen their chances of a call-up given the Panthers are on the bye this week. It leaves winger Brian To’o – only one game back from a hamstring injury – up in the air as to whether he has done enough to earn a recall. To’o’s selection may be impacted by how Zac Lomax returns from a broken foot in Parramatta’s game against Newcastle on Friday. “We’re hoping that Zac will play this weekend, so we can have a look at Zac and obviously, we can’t watch Brian anymore,” Daley said. “They were two influential members of the team last year, and it (their injury troubles) has been something we’ve discussed because we know wingers these days do a lot of work. “You’ve got to make sure they can do the workload that’s required. “Ideally, you probably want them to have a couple of games under their belt but we don’t live in an ideal world. “So we’ll weigh that all up and see however, our performance on the weekend, and then we’ll make our decision.” Source link #Daley #defends #underfire #Blues #captain #Trbojevic Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content] For verified travel tips and real support, visit: [Hidden Content]

Just ahead of the 2025 festival getting underway, Cannes organizers announced the event would be banning nudity and “excessively voluminous” clothing. Dresses with long trains and other attributes that could clog up the carpet are also no longer allowed. “I had an amazing dress by Gupta that I cannot wear tonight because it’s too big of a train,” Berry said regarding her look for tonight’s opening night gala. “I’m not going to break the rules. The nudity part is also probably a good rule.” More from Variety Cannes issued a statement on Monday, May 12 in which it detailed its new red carpet rules. The festival said the red carpet changes were in accordance with “the institutional framework” of the Cannes Film Festival and French law. “This year, the Cannes Film Festival has made explicit in its charter certain rules that have long been in effect. The aim is not to regulate attire per se, but to prohibit full nudity on the red carpet, in accordance with the institutional framework of the event and French law,” said the new instructions from the festival. Cannes added that it “reserves the right to deny access to individuals whose attire could obstruct the movement of other guests or complicate seating arrangements in the screening rooms.” Berry is serving on this year’s competition jury alongside “Succession” Emmy winner Jeremy Strong, “All We Imagine as Light” director Payal Kapadia, South Korean filmmaker Hong Sangsoo, Italian actor Alba Rohrwacher, French-Moroccan writer Leïla Slimani, Congolese documentarist Dieudo Hamadi and ******** filmmaker Carlos Reygadas. Buttigieg suggests Biden’s 2024 run was “maybe” a mistake
Pelican Press posted a topic in World News
Buttigieg suggests Biden’s 2024 run was “maybe” a mistake Buttigieg suggests Biden’s 2024 run was “maybe” a mistake Cedar Rapids, Iowa — Pete Buttigieg, who served as transportation secretary under former President Joe Biden, appeared to acknowledge Tuesday that he believed Biden should not have run for a second White House term. When asked by reporters if the Democratic party would have been better off without Biden as the nominee, Buttigieg responded, “Maybe, you know, right now, with the benefit of hindsight, I think most people would agree that is the case.” Buttigieg, who won the 2020 Democratic Iowa caucus, made the remarks following a town hall in the Hawkeye state hosted by a progressive veterans PAC. Buttigieg served as Biden’s transportation secretary from 2021 until he left office in January. Buttigieg addressed whether he saw signs that Biden was experiencing any kind of cognitive decline. Speculation about Biden’s situation ramped up following his poor debate performance against President Trump in June, and the ensuing fallout ultimately led to Biden dropping out of the race. “Every time I needed something from him from the West Wing I got it,” Buttigieg said of Biden. “And the time I worked closest with him in his last year was around the Baltimore bridge collapse. And I want to tell you is that the same president the world saw addressing that, was the president that I was involved with.” This visit to Iowa comes amid a flurry of speculation that Buttigieg is considering a second presidential run in 2028. Buttigieg recently passed on a 2026 run for the U.S. Senate in Michigan, and has made a number of media appearances in recent weeks. “Anyone can come to Iowa just before an election’s coming up,” Buttigieg joked with the audience shortly after taking the stage at the VoteVets event. “I wanted to make sure I had a chance to talk with the people I got to know five or six years ago, and people I’m seeing for the very first time.” Buttigieg played coy on whether he was assessing a potential presidential run, telling reporters that, “Right now, I’m not running for anything. Part of what’s exciting about an opportunity like this is to be campaigning for values and for ideas rather than a specific elected office.” When asked by an audience member what can be done to combat some of the Trump administration’s proposed cuts to the Department of Veterans Affairs, Buttigieg encouraged them not to “back down.” “There’s this sense of inevitability, invincibility, right, that the president’s trying to create,” he said. “But it’s not true. Don’t back down. They’ll back down when he screws up badly enough, not as often as I’d like, but they change their mind all the time. They changed their mind on tariffs.” Buttigieg’s remarks echoed similar comments he’s made in media appearances in recent weeks, especially in speaking about the future of the Democratic party, which he has encouraged to “meet people where they are.” Buttigieg said it is “politically and substantively wrong” for the party to suggest returning to a status quo when Democrats were last in power. “I am not here to say we gotta make things back the way they were in 2023,” Buttigieg said. “The hard truth is, if our government, our politics, our society and our economy were working, we wouldn’t be here. Pro-authoritarian populist movements, they don’t just come out of nowhere.” Buttigieg refused to weigh in on whether Iowa should be the Democrat’s first primary contest in 2028. In 2023, the Democratic National Committee, with the support of Biden, controversially changed the calendar to make South Carolina the first state in Democratic primary schedule. Prior to that, the Iowa caucuses had led off the process since 1972. “People like me are makers, not takers, on the rules like that,” Buttigieg said. “What I will say is Iowa showed me what can happen through a process where you have to be in backyards, doing a few town halls a day. It made it possible for me to emerge as a candidate, and it certainly made me better, not just as a candidate but as a public servant.” Source link #Buttigieg #suggests #Bidens #run #mistake Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content] -

Beyond Tariff Truce, China Readies for a Rocky Time With U.S. Beyond Tariff Truce, China Readies for a Rocky Time With U.S. Even as the United States and China take steps to rein in their trade war, Beijing is preparing for broader rivalry with Washington to continue. For China, that means its search for economic and diplomatic opportunities across Asia is unlikely to soften its tough line on its regional territorial claims and military competition. Both sides have agreed to temporarily cut the startlingly high tariffs they had imposed on each other’s goods. But the tariff truce will not allay other grievances that Beijing has with Washington, such as over a Pentagon vow to shift military forces to Asia and the Pacific, and the continuing efforts to limit China’s access to advanced technology. The climb-down on tariffs may open the way to a call, and a summit, between President Trump and China’s top leader, Xi Jinping. But Mr. Trump’s high tariffs have already weakened guarded hopes in Beijing that Mr. Xi could appeal to Mr. Trump’s deal-maker side, said experts who have spoken to ******** officials and policy advisers. While Beijing will vigorously pursue opportunities in talks with the Trump administration, it will steel for a possible flare-up of tensions — repeating the pattern of relations during Mr. Trump’s first term. “I think it validates Beijing’s view that it was correct to take a dark view of U.S. intentions — and prepare for the eventuality of a second trade war with the policies it has pursued in the years since the first trade war” during Mr. Trump’s first term, said Jonathan Czin, the Michael H. Armacost Chair in Foreign Policy Studies at the Brookings Institution, who formerly worked in the Central Intelligence Agency analyzing ******** politics. “My suspicion is that Beijing sees this as a tactical retreat by the U.S. rather than a more fundamental shift away from hostility toward the ******** ********** Party,” Mr. Czin said of the tariff pause agreed in Geneva. President Trump’s tariffs on much of the world have given Mr. Xi an opportunity to present China as a friendly, trustworthy alternative, a theme that he promoted during a recent visit to Vietnam, Cambodia and Malaysia and meetings this week with Latin American leaders. But China’s emerging approach to the Trump era also includes flexing its power: basically, telling other governments, especially in Asia, not to expect Beijing to hold back its regional claims and ambitions. On the same day that Washington and Beijing announced their truce on tariffs, a ******** government policy-setting document warned that “external forces” posed increasing “threats to China’s frontier regions, border areas, and security in its surrounding areas.” “The Asia-Pacific region has become a focus of contestation between major powers,” said the ******** national security white paper issued on Monday. “Certain countries have been strengthening their military alliances in the Asia-Pacific, courting regional partners, forming exclusionary ‘cliques’,” it said, in a reference to the United States and its partners. “Sure, it will continue to try to leverage the upheaval in Washington’s trade policy by presenting itself as a beacon of stability and predictability,” Richard McGregor, a senior fellow for East Asia at the Lowy Institute in Sydney, said of China. “But it will not relent in pressing its claims in the multiple sovereignty disputes it has with its maritime neighbors.”. Early this month, a ******** Coast Guard helicopter flew into airspace near disputed islands also claimed, and controlled, by Japan, an escalation in long-running friction over the islands, called Diaoyu by China and Senkaku by Japan. China said it was responding to a provocative flight over the islands by a Japanese plane. This month, too, China’s Coast Guard landed on Sandy Cay, a sliver of sand in the disputed South China Sea that is also claimed by the Philippines. Their action came days before the United States and the Philippines began annual joint military exercises in the Philippines. Above all, the ******** government remains on edge over Taiwan, the democratically governed island that Beijing claims as its territory. In early April, the People’s Liberation Army held exercises around Taiwan to practice imposing a blockade. China’s leaders saw no contradiction in their mix of sweet talk and hardball actions, said Julian Gewirtz, a former senior China policy official at the White House and State Department during the Biden administration. “They believe it is precisely the moment to set the relationship with China’s neighbors — particularly those that they worry have grown too close with Washington — on more advantageous terms,” Mr. Gewirtz said. “It is a moment when they believe those states’ ability to push back is diminished and where China’s leaders can say ‘We can, yes, offer economic and technology deals and other incentives. But we also can continue to push on our territorial claims.’ And those two things coexist very comfortably in their minds.” Rifts have opened up between the United States and many traditional allies, especially in Europe. But so far, Mr. Trump’s policies have not shaken traditional U.S. alliances in Asia and the Pacific to the same degree. Marco Rubio attended a meeting with foreign ministers from India, Japan and Australia on his first full day as Secretary of State. Mr. Trump and Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba of Japan issued a joint statement that mentioned their shared concerns about ******** threats to Taiwan. “There is continuity here in this region — with Japan, the Philippines, Taiwan, Australia,” said Ely Ratner, the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Indo-Pacific Security Affairs under President Biden, said of alliance ties under Mr. Trump. “Both sides, the U.S. and its Asian partners, are trying to silo off their defense and security relationship from the trade and tariff environment,” said Mr. Ratner, now a principal at the Marathon Initiative, a group that studies U.S. competition with China and other rivals. “The challenge now for Beijing is that most of America’s allies view China as their primary national security threat.” China has cheered the dismantling of the office overseeing the Voice of America and other agencies promoting democracy and human rights under Mr. Trump. But Mr. Xi and other ******** leaders had a dim view of the United States’ intentions well before Mr. Trump entered politics. And in Mr. Trump’s first term, shows of bonhomie between him and Mr. Xi gave way to a trade war, then an agreement that faltered, with Washington accusing China of not honoring its side of the bargain. There was also acrimony over the origins of Covid, U.S. controls on technology exports, and each sides’ military aims. This time, the mutual back down on tariffs will not dispel deep distrust between China and the United States, said Shen Dingli, a scholar of international relations in Shanghai. If both sides keep dialing back on their trade disputes, relations may improve for a year or two, but then are likely to worsen again, Mr. Shen said, “because we have too many points of disagreement.” Source link #Tariff #Truce #China #Readies #Rocky #Time #U.S Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content] For verified travel tips and real support, visit: [Hidden Content]

Every Batman Arkham Game, Ranked Every Batman Arkham Game, Ranked Batman has been a massive cultural phenomenon in the comic book world, and even now, if you ask every comic book fan from the 90s to the early 20s who their favourite superhero is, you will hear the Dark Knight’s name almost every time. Even though Batman has been a cultural icon for more than 80 years now, his popularity still seems to be growing. The Bat-Vigilante’s popularity does not stem from the fact that he beats up villains every night, but from how human he feels when brought into perspective by the general audience. In a world full of superheroes like the Flash and Superman, Batman is just an ordinary human with lots of free time (and an insane amount of funds in his bank account). The audience relates to his strict moral code and twisted pursuit of justice, and this is what makes Batman so likable that people aspire to be like him. Every Batman fan wanted to be the Dark Knight themselves at least once in their lifetime, and although the chances of that happening are very low (never zero), people have found their solace in one of the best superhero gaming franchises, the Batman: Arkham games. The Batman: Arkham games are the most celebrated Batman games in the entire world because of their realistic portrayal of the Caped Crusader and their jaw-dropping narrative. The series is so popular in the video game space that, although most of the Arkham games were released almost a decade ago, people still enjoy it to this day and yearn for more. From pulse-pounding detective work to adrenaline-fuelled action, here’s a ranking of the Batman: Arkham games that will make you fall in love with the Batman even more. Batman: Arkham Shadow is the latest entry in the Arkham series, with the game released back in October of 2024, and it is phenomenal in every sense. While Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League disappointed us all, Arkham Shadow really brought out the original Arkham trilogy, stuffed with a mind-bending story and action sequences that feel like ballet. Although Shadow is a great game by itself, the excitement for it dies down when you hear that the title is only released for the Meta Quest 3 and 3S exclusively. This platform exclusivity means a limited player base, and a limited player base means that not many people will be able to try it at all. This makes the game feel disconnected from the core series, even though it is directly linked with the Arkham narrative. Batman: Arkham Origins is the one game that everyone skips over in the series, but it turns out to be the bomb when they try it afterwards. The title is a prequel to the series and presents us with a less-refined Batman who is still fueled with vengeance. Although the story, voice acting, and (especially) the musical score are top-notch, the game lacks innovation. Batman: Arkham Origins reuses a lot of assets from its predecessor, Batman: Arkham City, and while that is understandable on a smaller scale, Origins just feels like a large expansion pack rather than a full-fledged sequel that was anticipated. The lifeless open world felt strangely odd, considering the events were taking place during Christmas Eve, and the technical issues during the title’s release didn’t help its case. Still, this game literally gives us the experience of being a less-polished Batman, and that in itself is commendable, so kudos to that. ⤢ ⤢ ⤢ ⤢ ⤢ ⤢ ⤢ Batman: Arkham Knight is the biggest, boldest game in the entire franchise, which was supposedly the final installment in the main series. The title was released back in June of 2015, and it gave the players a fully realized Gotham City for them to glide through. The game was the peak of every Batman game, with a kind of cool story, exquisite combat, and visuals that are stunning to say the least. While Batman: Arkham Knight became an example of innovation in video games, the developers also decided to torture the player with their newest gameplay element, and that is the Batmobile. Rocksteady wanted the Batmobile to be the central aspect of the game, and boy, was it central. The Batmobile was so overused that players felt bored after a while, and they even made the final boss fight an exaggerated round of Battle City (look it up). Before 2009, superhero games were mostly mediocre cash-ins that relied on the heroes’ popularity, but then Batman: Arkham Asylum was released, and it became the blueprint that changed superhero games forever. Arkham Asylum is the first installment in the series, and it took the world by storm with its insane fighting mechanics, realistic stealth mechanics, and gritty tone. The setting for this game was genius, and the phenomenal voice acting by Kevin Conroy and Mark Hamill elevated the experience to the next level. The game’s only drawback is its scale. While the title was like a dream come true back when it was released in August of 2009, after playing other Arkham games, Asylum just felt claustrophobic with its restrictiveness. Although the game has a limited combat depth and enemy variety, it still remains a masterpiece. Batman: Arkham City was the one game that people did not know they needed. Being the second installment in the main series, City took everything great about Asylum, which includes the combat, the stealth and voice acting, and expanded the whole thing into a larger and richer world without losing their vision. Batman: Arkham City was released back in October of 2011, and although the story has a much darker tone, Gotham never felt this alive and vibrant in any other Arkham games. The narrative moves with urgency, yet it gives players the time to explore, gliding across rooftops, intercepting crime and unraveling mysteries. The side missions tie seamlessly into the core themes of the game, and nearly every character felt more personal and deep, including the villains, who get their moment of shine as well. And the ending was flawless. Heartbreaking to the core, yet iconic in every sense. Source link #Batman #Arkham #Game #Ranked Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content]

Airbnb to offer in-house chefs and massages in new-look app Airbnb to offer in-house chefs and massages in new-look app Airbnb says users will now be able to book luxury services like personal trainers, massages and chefs on its redesigned app as it continues to expand beyond its core short-term rentals business. “People choose hotels for their services. People choose Airbnbs for the space… now, we’re giving you the best of both worlds”, the company’s chief executive Brian Chesky said in a statement. It comes just weeks after the firm signalled bookings may slow in the US as President Trump’s unpredictable trade policies hit consumer sentiment. Despite hosting more than two billion guests since its launch in 2008, Airbnb has also faced challenges in recent years with some cities moving to ban short-term lets. Airbnb’s new services will initially be available in 260 cities, with the company saying they will cost from below $50 (£37.57). The luxury offerings, which include spa treatments, photographers and makeup artists, can also be booked by people who are not staying in Airbnbs. The company’s revamped app also includes an updated experiences tab, allowing users to book bespoke tours and activities. That service was first launched in 2016. The new hotel-like features reflect the changing needs of tourists, Gary Bowerman, director of travel marketing firm Check-in Asia told the BBC. “Travellers are now thinking much more about how to customise the trip for themselves, not just the actual functional parts of how they get there and where they stay.” Another feature of the new app is an originals tab, which offers exclusive experiences across the world. This includes playing beach volleyball in Rio de Janeiro with Olympian Carol Solberg or spending a Sunday with National Football League superstar Patrick Mahomes. Bespoke options like this are part of a wider trend as tourists seek out off-the-beaten path experiences, said luxury travel consultant Anastasia Oriordan. “There are so many people that have travelled and done so many things, that the benchmark or the goalpost for unique experiences is constantly moving.” Source link #Airbnb #offer #inhouse #chefs #massages #newlook #app Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content] For verified travel tips and real support, visit: [Hidden Content]

Fresh Suaalii injury blow leaves Lions status in limbo Fresh Suaalii injury blow leaves Lions status in limbo Joseph-Aukuso Suaalii requires surgery on a fractured jaw that’s placed him in doubt for the Wallabies’ blockbuster British and Irish Lions duel. The code-hopping NSW Waratahs star copped an accidental knee from a teammate in Saturday’s loss to the Queensland Reds and was carted from Allianz Stadium in a medicab. The 21-year-old was concussed but there was optimism he would miss just one week as the Waratahs pushed for a Super Rugby Pacific finals spot. But on Wednesday the Waratahs revealed their star NRL convert required surgery to reinforce a fractured jaw. A review in four weeks will then determine a return-to-play time frame, leaving the supreme talent in massive doubt ahead of the much-hyped three-Test series that begins in Brisbane on July 19. The Wallabies begin their Test season against Fiji in Newcastle on July 6. “We will do all we can to facilitate his recovery in consultation with Rugby Australia to have him in the best shape possible for his availability for the Wallabies,” Waratahs coach Dan McKellar said. Suaalii made a statement in his Test debut last year before he’d even played a game for the Waratahs and has since flourished playing both at fullback and in the centres. Speaking on Monday, Wallabies coach Joe Schmidt said that he’d prefer not to wrap Suaalii in cotton wool. “I’m keen to see him keep playing,” he said. “He’s missed a few games already this season. He hasn’t had that many games anyway so, for Joseph, it’s important that he just keep playing when he’s fit and available to play.” Source link #Fresh #Suaalii #injury #blow #leaves #Lions #status #limbo Pelican News View the full article at [Hidden Content]

Natto Natto is a traditional Japanese food made from fermented soybeans and can help fight off plaque via an enzyme called nattokinase. According to Routhenstein, nattokinase helps break down fibrin, a protein involved in blood clotting. In turn, this helps to reduce the formation of plaque in the arteries. Related: 7 Health Benefits of Fermented Foods 4. Leafy greens Gervacio ranks leafy greens as number one on her list because they are rich in nitrates. “Nitrates help arteries relax and widen for better blood flow, so think of them as natural blood pressure reducers,” she explains. Leafy greens include spinach, kale, bok choy and romaine lettuce. Given the wide range of health benefits of leafy greens for the brain and gut, Gervacio advises having a side of leafy greens with almost every meal. Related: A Cardiologist’s Favorite Vegetable for Heart Health 5. Green tea Gervacio recommends green tea every morning as a replacement for coffee, especially for those sensitive to caffeine, but who need a certain kick to start the day. While research on this is still ongoing, there have been older studies that claim green tea may help clean out the arteries by improving blood vessel function. Related: Green Tea vs. Coffee: Which is Better for Energy, Clarity? 6. Extra virgin olive oil Olive oil has become a fan favorite as a substitute for canola oil and butter. Gervacio says the monounsaturated fats in extra virgin olive oil help lower the ‘bad’ cholesterol that clogs up arteries while simultaneously increasing ‘good’ cholesterol levels. Besides cooking, she recommends regularly drizzling olive oil on your salads and veggies. Related: Brain Health Benefits of Olive Oil, According to Science 7. Lemons When life gives you lemons—well, you better use them. Routhenstein says lemons have a flavonoid called hesperidin that has been shown to have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Hesperidin protects your cells and blood vessels from getting damaged, which can contribute to plaque buildup in the arteries. Women’s Origin coaches want a slice of NRL Vegas action Women’s Origin coaches want a slice of NRL Vegas action Jillaroos great Tahnee Norris has called for the NRL to put women back on the Las Vegas schedule, arguing for head office to take State of Origin to the US in 2026. The Jillaroos became victims of their own success on Wednesday, with no women’s match on the schedule for next year’s Vegas fixtures. The move to shrink the US extravaganza came after Australia’s 90-4 thumping of England there in March, with officials believing the four-game event was too long. AAP understands the NRL is examining what the women’s schedule looks like for next year and beyond, with the game continuing to grow. For now, it has left the women’s side of the code in an awkward predicament. The NRL wants to keep an English Super League match on the Vegas draw to attract fans from the northern hemisphere, after doing so with great success this year. Taking four NRL teams is also paramount for the league, with Canterbury, St George Illawarra, Newcastle and North Queensland all locked in for 2026. But at the same time the women’s game is viewed as a genuine pathway for growth in the US, with no professional rugby or gridiron competitions in the country. The news came on the eve of Thursday night’s second Origin clash in Sydney, with NSW pushing to wrap up the series. And Norris, who now coaches the Maroons, believes Origin must be the answer. “I was disappointed it wasn’t game one of the Origin series (this year),” said Norris, the most-capped Jillaroo in history. “There were a lot of proposals put forward and that (Test against England) was what the NRL went with. “If we took the women’s Origin over there it would have been a really good opportunity to show the best of our game. “It needs that. It shows here, you look at the publicity after that last game when we had more than two million viewers watching State of Origin. “If we put the best game out there, it will only get ******* and *******.” Women’s Origin is already used to kick off the Magic Round, with states relying on a six-week camp for preparation, with no NRLW matches before then. Norris said a similar approach could be implemented for Vegas, with Blues coach John Strange also adamant there needs to be a women’s match on the fixture. “It’s really important that they’re in there every year,” Strange said. “It’s a great spectacle for not just for Australia, but for the world. But obviously a bit of thought needs to go into making sure it’s a good product. “We all know what happened last year. It’s clear now that everyone knows that the domestic comp in NRLW is a lot stronger than the domestic comp in England.” Strange backed Norris’s call for an Origin series opener in Vegas, or a grand-final rematch from the previous NRLW season. “It’s just got to be a good spectacle,” Strange said. Credit: NASA / SDO and the AIA, EVE, and HMI science teams, helioviewer.org A massive solar filament erupted in dramatic fashion last night (May 12-13) around 8 p.m. EDT (0000 GMT), hurling a surge of material across the sun’s northern hemisphere. Stretching nearly 600,000 miles (1 million kilometers) — more than twice the distance between Earth and the moon — the event was as vast as it was striking! Data suggests Earth is not in the eruption’s path. “Not sure what to call this eruption, maybe the “bird-wing” or “angel-wing” event? Either way, it is truly something to witness!”, aurora chaser Vincent Ledvina wrote in a post on X. “Look at how large the blast is off the sun‘s northern hemisphere. I could watch this animation loop for hours!” The filament, a long, dark ribbon of solar plasma suspended by magnetic fields, had been hanging above the sun’s surface before destabilizing. “WOW! There is an absolutely enormous filament erupting right now! It dwarfs all the filament eruptions we have seen recently,” aurora chaser Jure Atanackov wrote in a post on X. The solar filament erupted from the upper right section of the sun. It is visible as a long dark ribbon. | Credit: NASA / SDO and the AIA, EVE, and HMI science teams, helioviewer.org These filament structures are cooler and denser than their surroundings, making them appear as dark threads against the bright solar disk. When a filament erupts, it can trigger a coronal mass ejection (CME), hurling a vast plume of plasma and magnetic field into space. And this particular filament did just that. “What a spectacular CME from the huge filament eruption earlier today! Unfortunately, it is directed north and will miss us. A direct hit from a CME like this can be high-end G4 storm material, maybe even G5,” Atanackov wrote in a later post on X. While solar storms can sometimes spark dazzling auroras and even disrupt satellite communications or power grids when directed at Earth, preliminary models suggest this CME will likely miss our planet. Still, scientists are watching closely. You can keep up to date with the latest northern lights forecasts, alerts and geomagnetic storm warnings with our aurora forecast live blog. Glenn Cyrel Butcher: Man accused of Safety Bay home invasion ******* has charge dropped Glenn Cyrel Butcher: Man accused of Safety Bay home invasion ******* has charge dropped A 51-year-old man accused of ******* over a stabbing inside his Safety Bay home has had the charge dropped under home invader laws. Emergency services were called to the property on Port Royal Drive about 11.45pm on May 7 last year after reports a 30-year-old man had been seriously injured. He was rushed to Rockingham General Hospital by St John WA, but died a short time later. Glenn Cyrel Butcher was arrested days later and did not bother to apply for bail.+ He appeared in Stirling Gardens Magistrates Court via video link from Hakea Prison on Wednesday, when prosecutor Michael Cvetkoski revealed the deceased had burst into Mr Butcher’s home with three others, wearing balaclavas and carrying weapons. Mr Cvetkoski said the State could not establish beyond reasonable doubt that Mr Butcher’s violent act was unlawful and there were no reasonable prospects of conviction. He had the charge discontinued under Section 244 of the Criminal Code, which deems it lawful for the occupant of a dwelling to use force that they reasonably believe to be necessary against a home invader. Mr Butcher remains in custody, however, as he faces a District Court jury trial on one count of attempting to pervert the course of justice in November. He also has drugs and weapons charges in Rockingham Courthouse, which he has pleaded not guilty to. In February, Mr Butcher’s co-accused Danniel John Hoonhout, 47, also had his ******* charge discontinued. Stirling Gardens Magistrates Court previously heard the fly-in, fly-out mine worker had been involved in a struggle with a home invader and armed himself with a baby cot. Royal Caribbean drops popular port from months of cruises
Pelican Press posted a topic in World News
Royal Caribbean drops popular port from months of cruises Royal Caribbean drops popular port from months of cruises In an effort to prioritize the safety of its passengers and crew members, Royal Caribbean is continuing to make changes to Caribbean cruise itineraries to remove and replace one key port. Most of the recent itinerary changes were made at the last minute, which frustrated many cruisers, but now the cruise line is giving passengers more notice. Related: Royal Caribbean makes key beverage package change While the news of losing a popular port of call is disappointing for many cruisers, Royal Caribbean is now cushioning the blow by giving passengers more time to get used to the idea of an altered cruise itinerary. Passengers who booked summer cruises visiting Labadee, Haiti, are now being notified months in advance that their cruise will visit an alternate destination, which gives them more time to plan shore excursions and other port activities accordingly. Unfortunately, this new development also gives the impression that Royal Caribbean doesn’t expect to be able to return to Labadee anytime soon. Labadee is Royal Caribbean’s popular but controversial private destination on Haiti’s northern coast that has proved problematic over the last year due to growing security concerns in the country. Sign up for the Come Cruise With Me newsletter to save money on your next (or your first) cruise. Many Royal Caribbean cruisers love Labadee for its natural beauty. Image source: Daniel Kline/ComeCruiseWith.com Royal Caribbean extends Labadee cancellations into August After putting a temporary pause on Labadee stops in April, Royal Caribbean has already decided to cancel multiple visits to Labadee in July and August, according to RoyalCaribbeanBlog.com, an unofficial fan blog not affiliated with the cruise line. “We have been monitoring the evolving situation in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, and out of an abundance of caution, we’re swapping our visit to Labadee for a Sea Day,” Royal Caribbean explained in the email to passengers booked on the July 20 sailing of Oasis of the Seas. Although Labadee was switched to a sea day, the cruise line added a stop in Nassau, Bahamas toward the end of the cruise itinerary to make up for the dropped port. The Aug. 3 sailing of Oasis of the Seas received a similar adjustment, but added a visit to Royal Caribbean’s private island in The Bahamas, Perfect Day at CocoCay, instead of Nassau. Related: Royal Caribbean passengers compare private cruise destinations Passengers booked on the July 5 and Aug. 2 sailings of Adventure of the Seas also received similar emails about changes to their cruise itineraries to remove Labadee and add another port of call. This more proactive approach to Labadee cancellations was shared by Royal Caribbean’s sister cruise line Celebrity Cruises, which already replaced Labadee with other cruise ports on cruise itineraries extending into 2026 in an effort to provide “a better guest experience.” Be the first to see the best deals on cruises, special sailings, and more. Sign up for the Come Cruise With Me newsletter. Why did Royal Caribbean stop going to Labadee? Haiti has been under a state of emergency since March 2024 due to an ongoing conflict with violent gangs who have taken control of much of its capital city, Port-au-Prince. Royal Caribbean previously suspended visits to Labadee for several months last year due to the conflict, but was able to resume visits in October without issue because Labadee is a secure cruise line facility that’s several hours away from Port-au-Prince. Related: Royal Caribbean stops visiting popular port Gang violence recently expanded outside of the city, however, causing Royal Caribbean to once again pause calls to Labadee out of an abundance of caution. On April 13, the U.S. Embassy in Haiti issued a security alert about rising levels of violence and insecurity in the country, as well as threats and attacks against security forces and prisons, in areas outside of Port-au-Prince. Haiti remains under a Level 4: Do Not Travel Advisory from the U.S. State Department. (The Arena Group will earn a commission if you book a cruise.) 2025 BYD Shark 6 price and specs 2025 BYD Shark 6 price and specs The BYD Shark 6 holds the distinction of being Australia’s first plug-in hybrid (PHEV) ute, and it has proved to be a popular vehicle. Orders for the Shark 6 opened in October 2024, when pricing was also announced at $57,900 before on-roads for the sole Premium grade. First customer deliveries began a few months after orders opened. BYD hasn’t announced any changes to the Shark 6 since then. It beat the Ford Ranger PHEV and GWM Cannon Alpha PHEV to market, and is competitively priced against both. The Ranger PHEV is set to open at a substantial $71,990 before on-roads, and the Cannon Alpha PHEV has a starting price of $61,490 drive-away. JAC is also set to join the fray with a PHEV ute of its own, taking the form of the Hunter PHEV based on the diesel T9. That won’t arrive until early 2026. The BYD Shark 6 is powered by a small-displacement 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine, which is mated with a BYD Blade lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery and dual electric motors. Camera IconSupplied Credit: CarExpert Crucially, the Shark 6 lacks off-road equipment like differential locks and low-range gearing – one or both of which will be seen on its rivals. Despite that, the CEO of BYD’s local distributor EVDirect, David Smitherman, told CarExpert in 2024 that the Shark 6 was the brand’s most important local vehicle launch to date. The company is also aiming for it to be BYD’s top-selling vehicle in 2025, a target it’s already hitting. BYD has shifted 6129 Sharks so far this year, well ahead of the next-closest Sealion 6 PHEV at 2358. Beyond the Shark 6, there are talks of additional BYD ute models in the works. Potential variations include an all-electric version that could be called the Shark 7, a ute with more performance to rival the Ford Ranger Raptor, and a larger ute with a higher braked towing capacity. Hundreds of new car deals are available through CarExpert right now. Get the experts on your side and score a great deal. Browse now. Pricing As mentioned, the BYD Shark 6 is priced at $57,900 before on-roads. Audi’s flagship EV getting cheaper with new base model Audi’s flagship EV getting cheaper with new base model Audi has launched a new entry-level version of its flagship electric vehicle (EV) for Europe, bringing the base price down by almost A$30,000. The Audi e-tron GT quattro slots in under the S e-tron GT in the updated electric sedan range, which was previously confirmed for release here during the first half of this year. We’ve contacted Audi Australia to confirm if the new entry-level variant will also come here. Hundreds of new car deals are available through CarExpert right now. Get the experts on your side and score a great deal. Browse now. Camera IconSupplied Credit: CarExpert In Europe, it’ll be priced from 108,900 euros (~A$188,000), which is 17,100 euros less than the S e-tron GT. It features a 105kWh (97kWh) net battery capacity like the rest of the updated range, offering up to 622km of range under the WLTP cycle, DC fast-charging at up to 320kW, and a route planner that automatically pre-conditions the battery. Energy consumption is listed at between 17.8 and 19.3kWh/100km, slightly better than the S e-tron GT (18-19.7kWh/100km) which also has slightly less range (609km) and weighs 30kg more. Camera IconSupplied Credit: CarExpert The e-tron GT quattro’s dual-motor all-wheel drive powertrain produces 370kW of power, increasing to 430kW with launch control. That gives the e-tron GT quattro a claimed 0-100km/h acceleration time of 4.0 seconds, which is 0.6 seconds slower than the S e-tron GT which has up to 500kW of power. It’s distinguished from the S e-tron GT through greater use of ****** trim up front, as well as unique 21-inch alloy wheels. Camera IconSupplied Credit: CarExpert The e-tron GT quattro has a drag coefficient of 0.24Cd. Audi’s EVs posted a global sales decline of eight per cent in 2024, amid an overall decline for the brand of 12 per cent. While deliveries of its EVs in Europe actually increased by six per cent last year, e-tron GT sales slumped 49 per cent – a decline surpassed only by the axed TT and Q8 e-tron Sportback. In Australia, e-tron GT sales slumped 75.2 per cent compared to 2023, with just 84 reaching local buyers last year. Porsche sold more than twice as many of its related Taycan, with 282 delivered. Camera IconSupplied Credit: CarExpert The launch of the new entry-level e-tron GT comes despite Audi’s introduction of the A6 e-tron, which would appear to negate the need for a more accessible version of the flagship four-door sedan/coupe. The updated e-tron GT range not only gets a new battery plus new variants such as the quattro and range-topping Performance, but also receives a new, lighter rear electric motor and revised suspension. The sultry styling has been left effectively unchanged, though detail revisions include new paint colours and wheels.
