, who oversaw the CG announcement trailer. Through a bit of digging, they realized the symbols are derived from Elder Futhark, an ancient alphabet.

"It's tough to decipher as Elder Futhark is significantly more phonetic than modern English, and there are also several variant systems," they explain in the post. "You can't directly translate to modern English."

But being a dedicated fan who's determined to see if this actually goes anywhere, Wolfheart sat down and, over the course of five-and-a-half hours, managed to discern something resembling a cohesive message. In the version of the crown in Unit Image's video, you could interpret the words as, "Chaos is coming."

I say interpret, because there's a certain amount of guesswork here - long-dead languages weren't designed for modern internet sleuths - but this phrasing works because the Lord of Chaos is a figure in the Divinity lore. He goes right back to Divine Divinity, in fact, and as Wolfheart points out, a prevailing theory among the fanbase is that you'll finally face him in this next installment.
