That's around double the game's install size on PlayStation 5, which benefits from some clever file compression technology, though similar to the game's memory footprint on PC. It's a hefty download, though perhaps to be expected when you consider the MMO's size and the amount of content that has been added over the years.

The upside to all this is that the filesize includes all of the game's previous five expansions — Heavensward, Stormblood, Shadowbringers, Endwalker and Dawntrail — so you won't need more space to play any of those. The downside? A sixth expansion, Evercold, is already on the way — meaning you'll likely need even more memory space from next January.

Somewhat amusingly, Final Fantasy publisher Square Enix is no stranger to holding the record for the biggest Switch 2 games by memory size. Until the launch of Final Fantasy 14, Square Enix's Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth holds the current record (91.8GB) for a single game, as well as the record for a game bundle (the Kingdom Hearts Collection, which includes a trio of titles that weigh in at 131GB total).
