Wreckreation 2 is technically being developed by a new studio called When Tides Turn, although this studio is reportedly staffed by veterans of Three Fields Entertainment. Prior to Wreckreation, ***-based Three Fields Entertainment made Dangerous Golf, plus the Burnout-adjacent racers Danger Zone and Dangerous Driving.

Wreckreation 2 is described as more compact than the original, trading its predecessor's enormous yet bland and one-note rural map for something that contains a lot more urban environments. The result seems to be something that may be even closer in spirit to the likes of Burnout Paradise than the original Wreckreation, which already explicitly recreated modes, sound effects, and parts of Burnout Paradise’s on-screen presentation.
